BETTING OFFER: GET RED DEVILS AT 6/1 OR NEWCASTLE AT 100/1 TO WIN PREMIER LEAGUE CLASH

    GOODNIGHT
That’s all from another eventful night at Old Trafford.
Manchester United were not at their best, but did enough to get the job done and move back to second spot – but the Red Devils still trail leaders Manchester City by ten points.
That may seem a lot, but just ask Newcastle United how quick a ten-point lead can evaporate.
The Magpies had that very gap over 18th-placed Fulham a week ago, but have seen it chopped to just three points.
Steve Bruce is confident his team will survive, but with an inferior goal difference and a trip to Craven Cottage on the final day, many aren’t so sure.
There’s a lot of football to be played before then though, and we’ll be covering it all here at SunSport.
    Thanks for reading, and goodbye.

    BRUCE OPTIMISTIC
Steve Bruce remains positive despite seeing his side slip to an eighth defeat in ten games, and believes he saw enough from side tonight to suggest they will beat the drop.

We’ve lost to a wicked deflection, a bit of luck and the third one is a very soft penalty. For 60 minutes, we gave as good as we got. I agree that it is gloomy, but I am confident we will turn it around. I am convinced we will be safe. We have to get to that magical point mark – whatever that is.
    Steve Bruce

    THE LEAGUE TABLE
Manchester United move back up to second but trail their city rivals by ten points.
At the other end of the table, Newcastle are only three points above Fulham with an inferior goal difference. The two clubs meet at Craven Cottage on the final day.

    BRILLIANT BRUNO
For the seventh time this season, Bruno Fernandes has registered a goal and an assist in the same game.
Okay, the touch for the assist was unintentional, and his goal came from the penalty spot, but the Portuguese international deserves that good fortune given his contribution this season.

    SOLSKJAER REACTION
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted that he had to motivate his side at half-time after a lacklustre opening 45 minutes this evening, and says his players aren’t concerned with the other clubs around them at the top of the table.

We had to up the tempo a little bit, especially in the last third. It’s always difficult after an away game in Europe. It was about moving the ball quicker and being a little cleverer with our positioning. I’m disappointed with the goal we conceded, but we stepped it up in the second half. We can’t control other teams, we just have to be the best version of Manchester United possible. Funny things can happen in football.

    FULL TIME STATS
Manchester United made their possession tell in the second half as they increased their intensity and peppered Karl Darlow’s goal.

    Statistics provided by Opta.

    THE GRADUATE
There was little action to report in the final stages at Old Trafford this evening, but those minutes did see the late introduction of 17-year-old Shola Shoretire.
The winger was born in Newcastle in 2004, and becomes the latest graduate of the famous Wallsend Boys Club to play Premier League football.
By making his senior debut against his hometown club, Shoretire follows the likes of Alan Shearer, Peter Beardsley, Michael Carrick and current Newcastle boss Steve Bruce in graduating from the Tyneside youth club to play at the highest level of English football.

    FT: MAN UTD 3-1 NEWCASTLE
Manchester United recover from a poor first half to prevail at Old Trafford. Near post strikes from Marcus Rashford and Dan James, as well as a Bruno Fernandes penalty, were enough to see off a spirited Newcastle side. The Magpies ultimately ran out of steam, but were level at the break through Allan Saint-Maximin’s half-volley.

PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!PAUL TIERNEY BLOWS THE FULL TIME WHISTLE!

    MAN UTD 3-1 NEWCASTLE
    90. Shoretire gets his first touches as a Manchester United player as three minutes of stoppage time are signalled by the fourth official.

Shole Shoretire is on for his senior debut.

    MAN UTD 3-1 NEWCASTLE
    89. A lovely moment for 17-year-old Shola Shoretire. The winger was born in Newcastle in 2004, and comes on against his hometown club for his senior debut.
Shoretire replaces Marcus Rashford while Juan Mata is also on for Dan James.

    MAN UTD 3-1 NEWCASTLE
    87. James toys with Lewis before sending a cross into a packed penalty area.
At quick count, there are nine Newcastle players in their own box when that delivery came in. Are the Magpies concerned about goal difference?
A reminder that they are three points ahead of 18th-placed Fulham as things stand, and are due to go to Craven Cottage on the final day.

    MAN UTD 3-1 NEWCASTLE
    85. Greenwood goes galloping down the right. The substitute has looked a lively presence since his introduction, and has arguably contributed more in quarter of an hour than Martial did in 70 minutes.

    MAN UTD 3-1 NEWCASTLE
    83. A trio of Luke Shaw corners – two from the right and one from the left – have United pushing for a fourth.
Two are met by the head of Maguire, the first tipped over by Darlow, the second nodded just wide.

    MAN UTD 3-1 NEWCASTLE
    81. Half-hearted appeals for another penalty as James’ cross ricochets off Lewis.
This shouldn’t need a second look from Stuart Atwell on VAR duty, it’s clearly come off the defender’s thigh.

    MAN UTD 3-1 NEWCASTLE
    79. And there goes Miguel Almiron, replaced by Dwight Gayle.

    MAN UTD 3-1 NEWCASTLE
    77. Jacob Murphy comes on for Allan Saint-Maximin.
The game’s up now, and Steve Bruce is resting his key men for the challenge ahead.

    MAN UTD 3-1 NEWCASTLE
    76. Mason Greenwood goes for the spectacular but is at least three yards too high with his effort.

    MAN UTD 3-1 NEWCASTLE
    75. Karl Darlow is the only goalkeeper to save a Bruno Fernandes penalty since the midfielder arrived at Manchester United – but there’s no repeat here!
The Portuguese international is as cool as you like as he steps up, and sweeps his right footed shot into the bottom left corner, leaving the Newcastle stopper in a heap in the middle of the six-yard box.
There’s no doubting the award of the spotkick either, given by Paul Tierney after Joe Willock had caught Marcus Rashford on the instep with his studs.
Three goals for United, and what should now be three points.

Bruno Fernandes converts from the penalty spot.

GOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLL!!BRUNO FERNANDES CONVERTS FROM 12 YARDS!!

WILLOCK CATCHES RASHFORD ON THE FOOT!!PENALTY TO MANCHESTER UNITED!!

    MAN UTD 2-1 NEWCASTLE
    71. A burst of pace from James forces a United corner on the right.
Shaw curls over an inswinger that is met beautifully by Fernandes’ flick on. The Newcastle defenders can only look in hope on as the looping ball drops in between the far post and the advancing Maguire. A let off for the visitors.

    MAN UTD 2-1 NEWCASTLE
    69. A promising United attack comes to nothing when Fred overruns the ball, and that’s the signal for United’s first change.
Anthony Martial hasn’t seen much action as United’s central striker this evening, and is replaced by Mason Greenwood.

    MAN UTD 2-1 NEWCASTLE
    68. Fraser tries a long range shot but it has neither the power, direction or swerve to trouble De Gea.

    MAN UTD 2-1 NEWCASTLE
    65. There’s been no immediate response from Newcastle this time, and their players appear flattened by United’s second.
In contrast, the home side are growing in confidence, and are looking the most likely to score again.

    STERLING SPEAKS
Man City goal-scorer Raheem Sterling gave his post-match assessment to Sky Sports: “We moved the ball well early on and kept the pressure on.
“Riyad was really aggressive in the first five minutes. They’re a good team, you could see that, but we kept our composure and ground a result out.
“Every time I score a headed goal there’s an extra buzz, and I was really pleased with that one. I got up really well.
“The centre-halves have a really great understanding and you can see there’s a bond there; it’s the same when Aymeric plays.
“We had a difficult start to the season but it’s a credit to the team that we started to dig results out when it really mattered.”

    MAN MOUNTAIN
    Ruben Dias was phenomenal tonight!

    FULL-TIME STATS
A fairly even contest when you look at the stats.
Arsenal, however, didn’t really create enough clear-cut chances to trouble Ederson.
Just four shots on target in the whole match for both teams combined – but lots of passing!
And lots of touches inside the opposition penalty area.

    FT: ARSENAL 0-1 MAN CITY
It wasn’t the most eye-catching victory by Man City, but they got the job done thanks to some brilliant defending by Stones and Dias.
And City make it 18 STRAIGHT wins across all competitions, and they’re ten points clear at the top of the Premier league.
Raheem Sterling’s 2nd minute strike secures all three points!

The Arsenal defender took a quick look at the on-rushing Dias and backed into him.
As Dias rolls around in pain, Sky Sports’ Gary Neville names Dias Man of the Match!

    ARSENAL 0-1 MAN CITY
    90. Four minutes to be added on at the end of the second half, one goal separates the two sides.

    ARSENAL 0-1 MAN CITY
    89. Jesus breaks forward for Man City, and he checks inside of Bellerin before blazing his shot over the bar.

    ARSENAL 0-1 MAN CITY

the German gets to the byline and cuts the ball back towards the near post, but Luiz clears the ball behind for a corner.

    ARSENAL 0-1 MAN CITY
    86. Jesus dinks the ball over Xhaka and knocks the ball past Bellerin before going to ground.
Bellerin goes into Moss’ book for the challenge.

    ARSENAL 0-1 MAN CITY
    85. Elneny’s evening comes to an end, and it’ll be Ceballos who replaces him – Arteta swaps a defensive minded midfielder for a more forward-thinking one.

    ARSENAL 0-1 MAN CITY
    84. Aubameyang drags Stones into a foot race down the left-hand side, and the defender gets the better of the forward.
Stones body-checks the Arsenal captain, sending him sliding off the pitch and onto the outer astroturf.

    ARSENAL 0-1 MAN CITY
    83. Let’s take a look at Elneny’s chance which came from some lazy play by Cancelo.
The Egyptian definitely saw his name in the headlines!

    ARSENAL 0-1 MAN CITY
    82. Holding – who picked up an injury in the build-up to Cancelo’s chance – makes way for Luiz.

    ARSENAL 0-1 MAN CITY
    80. Ten minutes left for Arsenal to find a way back into the game.

    ARSENAL 0-1 MAN CITY
    78. JUST WIDE!

    ARSENAL 0-1 MAN CITY
    76. Aubameyang is picked out in-behind of Cancelo by Xhaka.
And the Arsenal captain lays the ball to Saka on the edge of the Man City penalty area.
The youngster slips as he goes to strike the ball and City clear.

    ARSENAL 0-1 MAN CITY
    75. Just over 15 minutes left at the end of the second half, and Arsenal are still in the game.
They just need a moment of magic or a bit of inspiration from one of their big players.

    ARSENAL 0-1 MAN CITY
    71. Odegaard feeds Bellerin down the line, and the right-back delivers a cross into the penalty area.
But a Man City defender manages to clear.

    ARSENAL 0-1 MAN CITY
    69. Holding’s first touch releases Sterling in on Leno’s goal, but the keeper is out quick to meet him.

What time does Arsenal vs Man City kick-off?
Arsenal’s huge game with Man City will get underway from 4.30pm UK time on Sunday, February 21.
The clash will take place in London at the Emirates Stadium.
There will be no fans in attendance because of the nationwide coronavirus lockdown.

    ARTETA’S THOUGHTS
In Arsenal’s free matchday programme, boss Mikel Arteta touched on Thursday’s disappointing 1-1 draw against Benfica in Rome.
He said: “With the number of chances we created, and the dominance that we showed throughout the 90 minutes, you have to say we should be in a much better position going into the second game next week.
“It comes down to not being ruthless enough in the opponents’ box and then we gave them a goal to take the lead.
“First of all with their goal, we gave the corner away in an area of the pitch where you can not play like that.
“Afterwards the penalty decision does look harsh.
“I’ve seen it again and I think he touched the ball on his body maybe before it touches his hand.
“They can be given though, and for me I’m more upset about what led to the corner before-hand, in an area we should not be playing, than I am with the penalty decision.”

    ‘HE WAS AMAZING’
Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has praised Man City’s main man Ilkay Gundogan.
He said: “I played with him at Borussia Dortmund, and he was amazing there as well.
“When I was playing with him he was the type of guy who could bring you the ball, get you moving forward and of course he can also score goals as well.”

Aubameyang on Gundogan: “I played with him at Borussia Dortmund, and he was amazing there as well. When I was playing with him he was the type of guy who could bring you the ball, get you moving forward and of course he can also score goals as well.”

    FIVE OF THE BEST
Arsenal have shared five of the best goals they’ve scored against today’s opponents Man City!
Take a look at that assist from Thierry Henry…..

    TOP SPOT
Arsenal have won just three of their last 18 Premier League games against the side starting the day of the game in top spot (W3 D4 L11), winning last time out against Liverpool in July 2020 (2-1).
They last won consecutive such games in August 2007, when the second win in that run came at home to Man City (1-0).

    THROWBACK
Man City have shared some of their best goals against today’s opponents Arsenal.
The first one is a beauty by Man City legend David Silva!

    TABLE CHECK
Man City will stay top of the Premier league table by some margin no matter what the result is today.
As for other results today, West Ham beat London rivals Tottenham 2-1 at the London Stadium taking them into the top four.
And Leicester City are currently beating Aston Villa 2-0.
If the Foxes manage to hold on, they’ll move up into 2nd on 49 points.

    HEAD-TO-HEAD
Arsenal have lost their last seven league games against Man City – the Gunners have only ever lost more consecutively against Leeds (8 between 1973-1976).
The Gunners have failed to score in their last three home league games against Man City, losing each time. The Gunners have never failed to find the net in four consecutive home league games against an opponent in their history.
Since losing 1-2 at the Emirates in December 2015, Man City are unbeaten in their last 10 Premier League meetings with Arsenal, scoring at least twice in nine of those games.
Man City beat Arsenal 4-1 at the Emirates earlier this season in a League Cup tie – only two teams have ever won away at the Gunners twice in the same season; Nottingham Forest in 1987-88 and Aston Villa in 1993-94.

    GOOD AFTERNOON
And welcome to the live blog for Arsenal vs Manchester City!
Pep Guardiola’s City will be looking to pick up another valuable three points on their march to reclaim the Premier League title.
Man City have won their last 17, yes 17, matches across all competitions, with 12 of those coming in the league.
As a result, City are now ten points clear at the top of the table, 16 points clear of defending champions, Liverpool.
But standing in Pep’s way of three points this afternoon is former apprentice, Mikel Arteta.
Arteta’s Arsenal sit 10th in the Premier League and 22 points behind the league leaders.
And the next seven fixtures are season-defining for the Gunners.
They face City, Benfica, Burnley, Tottenham, West Ham and Liverpool – and four of those teams are above them in the Premier League table!
In terms of team news, Thomas Partey could feature for the hosts today after overcoming a hamstring injury.
Club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is expected to start after scoring a hat-trick against Leeds last week.
And Kieran Tierney could come back into the starting line-up.
As for City, Kevin De Bruyne could make his return into Pep’s starting XI after returning from a hamstring injury mid-week against Everton.
Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling are all expected to start.
The teamsheets are due to be released in half an hour, so don’t go anywhere!

    FT: AC MILAN 0-3 INTER
Inter Milan picked up a major win over rivals AC Milan in the Milan derby at the San Siro.
Inter stunned their foes just five minutes after kick-off when Romelu Lukaku’s cross from the right flank found Lautaro Martinez completely unmarked inside the box and the Argentina international beat Gianluigi Donnarumma with a stunning header.
The Nerazzurri dominated throughout the first half but Milan came back stronger after half-time.
The Rossoneri came close to an equaliser but were denied by the incredible Samir Handanovic, who made a stunning triple save.
Handanovic blocked two headers by Zlatan Ibrahimovic with two leaping saves before stopping a powerful shot by Sandro Tonalli.
Soon after, in the 57th minute, Achraf Hakimi ran the ball down the right wing and passed to Christian Eriksen in midfield who then found Ivan Perisic on the left.
Perisic then set up Lautaro, who was perfectly positioned inside the box and beat Donnarumma for the second time.
Nine minutes later, the Croatia international found Lukaku with a brilliant cross from Inter’s half and the ex-Manchester United star ran around Alessio Romagnoli before scoring a third past Donnarumma’s tight angle

West Ham 2 Tottenham 1 LIVE REACTION: Hammers into top four as Lingard scores second before Lucas Moura gets one back

WEST HAM have moved into the top four after a superb win over Tottenham at London Stadium.
Michail Antonio gave the Hammers the lead, before Jesse Lingard doubled the advantage just after half time, then Lucas Moura’s header got Spurs back into it.

The visitors then went on to hit the woodwork TWICE but failed to get the breakthrough.
Keep up to date with every kick in our live blog below…

    THAT’S A WRAP
Thanks for joining us this afternoon- what an entertaining derby that turned out to be.
There’s plenty more football for you to enjoy today, but for now, take a look at our match report.

    HAMMER THE MESSAGE HOME
Not a bad way to end a London derby.
Fourth position, after 25 matches, for the first time since ’85/86.

4 – West Ham will spend a night within the top four places in a top-flight campaign after at least 25 matches have been played for the first time since 1985-86 finishing third that season. Orchestra. #WHUTOT pic.twitter.com/iUPnDd9Tw2

    RICE COOL
While Lingard’s efforts earned him the man-of-the-match award, Rice also had a good game..

    LIFE IN LONDON
On life at West Ham, Lingard says: ” It’s brilliant, the lads have taken to me well and I’ve settled in quickly.
“I’m playing with a smile on my face so that’s really enjoyable.”
Asked about closing in on Manchester United, Lingard, with a smile, added: “Everyone has the same mindset and targets for the end of the season.
“We don’t look at the table too much, but it’s an enjoyable position to be in.”

    LINGARD SPEAKS
Speaking after the game, today’s man-of-the-match Jesse Lingard says: “It’s a great win, the lads are buzzing. We really grafted and luck was on our side.
“It was just about maintaining the same intensity in the second half.
“We knew it would be a graft, that is a team we are about, working hard for the three points.”
    .

    STAT ATTACK
West Ham move into fourth today after a hard-fought victory.
Tottenham enjoyed 69 per cent of the possession and had almost double the number of touches in the opposition’s box.
As you’d expect in a London derby, there were seven yellow cards.

    IT’S ALL OVER IN LONDON
Yes Jose, three goals this afternoon but unfortunately two weren’t for you.
Moyes records his first ever win over Mourinho.

Despite going behind again quickly in the second half, Tottenham found their mojo and looked a real threat.
But, West Ham held their nerve and now move nine points clear of their London rivals.

    FT: WEST HAM 2-1 TOTTENHAM
The European dream is alive and well for West Ham!

    WEST HAM 2-1 TOTTENHAM
    93. Final substitution for West Ham as Lingard is replaced by Noble.
Looks like the West Ham man is on to steady the ship.

    WEST HAM 2-1 TOTTENHAM
    91. POST! For the second time in the second half, Tottenham rattle the post.
The free-kick doesn’t come to much, but Tottenham recycle possession and throw the ball back into the box twice in quick succession.
It bounces off Son on the left and wrong-foots Fabianski who scrambles back to the opposite post, but West Ham breathe a sigh of relief as the ball bounces off the post.

    WEST HAM 2-1 TOTTENHAM
    90. Lingard is a little overenthusiastic in his bid to halt Dele as he takes him out by his ankles, about 30 yards out.
He’s also furious that Spurs win a freekick and tries to block them from taking it quickly.

    WEST HAM 2-1 TOTTENHAM
    90. Five additional minutes at the London Stadium.

    WEST HAM 2-1 TOTTENHAM
    88. West Ham look exhausted from this encounter as Rice complicates a clearance by sending it high into the air instead of far away from the box.
Can they hold on for another few minutes?

    WEST HAM 2-1 TOTTENHAM
    86. Moura creates space for Doherty but his dink is flicked wide by Bale.
Spurs regain possession and Dier is picked out on the edge of the area, he has a crack but thumps it over the bar.
Tottenham are throwing everything at West Ham, now is the time for the Hammers to demonstrate their defensive prowess.

    WEST HAM 2-1 TOTTENHAM
    85. Coufal is back on his feet and seems okay to continue.

    WEST HAM 2-1 TOTTENHAM
    82. A ball over the top, aimed towards Bale, causes a collision in the box as Fabianski comes flying out to clear it.
Coufal is down receiving treatment- we aren’t sure if he’ll need a concussison sub or not.

    WEST HAM 2-1 TOTTENHAM
    81. West Ham substitution as Fornals is replaced by Johnson.

    WEST HAM 2-1 TOTTENHAM
    80. Moyes is seen shouting at Moura to get up as he rolls around on the touchline.
Moura just seemed to be barged off the ball by Soucek due to the sheer strength of the West Ham man, nothing sinister in it.

    WEST HAM 2-1 TOTTENHAM
    78. Spurs counter quickly as the Hammers struggle to keep up.
West Ham seem vulnerable here as Kane is on his own on the right.
He squares a ball across goal to pick out a running Moura but Rice’s outstretched leg blcoks the ball’s path.
The clearance falls to Bale who crashes the ball against the bar.

    WEST HAM 2-1 TOTTENHAM
    77. West Ham enjoy their first foray in 15 minutes into Tottenham’s box.
Benrahma breaks through a sea of white shirts before slipping a pass through to Antonio but he can’t bring it under control.
The ball runs towards Lingard as Reguilon and Lloris collide, but it’s Doherty to the rescue as he boots the ball away.

    WEST HAM 2-1 TOTTENHAM
    75. Dele Alli is having a Mourinho pep-talk from the touchline.
    He’ll be Tottenham’s final substitution.
Mourinho brings off Reguilon for Dele.

    WEST HAM 2-1 TOTTENHAM
    73. Kane has another chance but again he’s off target!
From the edge of the area, in the centre, he drops his shoulder and dances away from Diop before having a crack, but it’s wide of the right post.
Feel as though Tottenham are really turning up the heat here..

    WEST HAM 2-1 TOTTENHAM
    71. Another booking for West Ham as Fornals sees yellow for a late challenge on Ndombele.
Fornals protests his innocence, but it was inevitable.

    WEST HAM 2-1 TOTTENHAM
    70. Tottenham are really applying the pressure now, West Ham need to keep their head.
Son plays a lovely pass back towards Moura, from the right of the box, but Moura’s shot from the D is rifled over the bar.

    WEST HAM 2-1 TOTTENHAM
Third goal of the afternoon is courtesy of Moura, not the tallest man on the pitch but he used his head well.

    ‘JOSEOUT’ TRENDS ON TWITTER
Tottenham’s 2-1 loss at West Ham further rocked their top-four hopes and increased the pressure on Jose Mourinho.
On Twitter #JoseOut was trending during the game with Spurs fans clearly fuming at what they are seeing.

Goals from Michail Antonio and Jesse Lingard saw the Hammers move into fourth spot in the Premier League.
Lucas Moura’s fine flick header proved scant consolation.
And fans of the North London side were quick to post their anger on social media using the hash-tag.
Graham Williams wrote: “#Joseout get this absolute joke of a manager out of this club now.”
Another fan posted: “Get him out! Awful Spurs. Shouldn’t be losing games like that. #JoseOut.”
Jake Radford wrote: “I don’t really see how this gets better with Mourinho here. I’m #JoseOut now until proven wrong.
“Bale and Reguilon looked good today, that was a positive. But there wasn’t much else.”

RESULT: ASTON VILLA 1 LEICESTER 2
The Foxes go second, three points above Manchester United, after Euro 2021 hopefuls James Maddison and Harvey Barnes struck on 19 and 23 minutes to set up a deserved win.
Bertrand Traore replied soon after the break as Villa – missing inured skipper Jack Grealish – had plenty of second-half possession but few clear chances.

    UTD’S HEAVY WAITE INTEREST
Everton prospect Jarrad Branthwaite has attracted interest from Manchester United, according to reports.
The 18-year-old defender, who is currently on loan at Blackburn Rovers, is said to be on Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer’s transfer wishlist.

Blackburn loanee Jarrad Branthwaite is reportedly being tracked by Man Utd
According to the Daily Mail, the Red Devils are one of several sides who are monitoring Branthwaite’s progress.
Reports suggest Solskjaer would prefer to sign a left-footed centre-back, a category Branthwaite falls into.
The starlet has impressed since moving on loan to Blackburn in January, making five Championship appearances.
Branthwaite made the news shortly after joining Rovers as his dangerous high foot caught Middlesbrough’s Dael Fry flush in the face, coming within inches of a potentially serious eye injury.
Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti will not want to let Branthwaite go as he is a big fan.

    JESSE TWINGARD
West Ham loanee Jesse Lingard loves a celebration – so much so he celebrated his goal against Tottenham on Sunday afternoon TWICE.
The Manchester United loanee continued his rich vein of form in the Hammers’ 2-1 win over their London rivals, doubling their lead shortly after half-time.

Jesse Lingard’s first celebration was cut short by the dreaded VAR check

But the England midfielder was soon celebrating with his team-mates after the video assistant referee found no reason to disallow his goal
Lingard, who is on loan at the London Stadium for the remainder of the season, celebrated by sliding on his knees and mimicking the crossed hammers on the club’s crest.
The 27-year-old’s jubilation, however, was cut short due to the much-dreaded VAR check.
But the England international was soon at it again after the video assistant referee adjudged there to have been no offside seconds before he rifled the ball past Hugo Lloris.
Elated that the goal had stood, Lingard pretended to play the recorder before being mobbed by his team-mates who mimicked playing other instruments.
Lingard’s strike was his third in four appearances for David Moyes’ side, who, despite recent defeats to Liverpool and Manchester United, have been on the up.

    THE BIG THREESY FOR UTD
Manchester United will target a centre-back, right-winger and forward in the summer transfer window, according to reports.
With United falling 10 points behind rivals Manchester City at the top of the Premier League, boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified the areas he wants to strengthen ahead of next season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will reportedly prioritise three positions for strengthening this summer
Journalist Andy Mitten says Solskjaer is set to meet his bosses to discuss individual targets in the next few weeks.
At centre-back, ESPN reported last week United have drawn up a five-man shortlist of potential partners for £80m Harry Maguire.
Sevilla stalwart Jules Kounde tops that list if reports in Spain are to be believed, with United weighing up a £61million offer for the 22-year-old.
Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, out of contract this summer, and his Madrid team-mate Raphael Varane are also targets. Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings and Braga defender David Carmo, both left-footed, are also being tracked by United.
ESPN claimed this week Solskjaer would prefer to sign a left-footed centre-back this summer, and United opted out of the race to sign Bayern Munich-bound Dayot Upamecano as a result.
Bayern’s David Alaba, also out of contract at the end of the season, would fit the bill but the Austria international is believed to have a verbal agreement with Real Madrid. On the right, German newspaper Bild claims United have put together a package to tempt Bayern winger Kingsley Coman away from the Allianz Arena.

    MARC OF A NEW DEAL
EXCLUSIVE: Marcos Alonso is open to signing a new deal at Chelsea after his revival under Thomas Tuchel.
The Spanish left-back’s camp had been working on a move away from the Blues after he was frozen out by ex-Stamford Bridge boss Frank Lampard.
But now Alonso, 30, who started his career at Real Madrid, is hoping for a one-year extension to his stay at Chelsea.
He had been looking at a final switch to a Premier League rival, or a return to Serie A where he played for Fiorentina.
But the defender’s situation at Stamford Bridge has improved dramatically since Tuchel’s arrival in January.

    PLOY OF THE ROVERS
EXCLUSIVE: Blackburn’s owners are hoping to sell the club’s training ground in a £20million deal to balance the books, writes ALAN NIXON.
The Venky’s have submitted plans to the local council to build 170 houses at their Brockhall HQ.
It would bring in cash for the Lancashire club who have been making heavy losses in recent years as they learn to live outside the top-flight.
Venky’s have just written a £7m cheque to bolster Rovers during the current troubling financial crisis and expect to have to find more to cover wages this year.
Selling Brockhall, their base since the Jack Walker era, will not go down well with fans but there are few options when it comes to raising cash.
Rovers have their ‘old’ training ground in the area which is still being used and could accommodate both the first team and academy.

    MANE TO FOOT BILL
Liverpool star Sadio Mane is in talks to invest in a French fourth tier club.
The forward is keen to pump his own money into developing Bourges Foot as he wants to help the French minnows.
The mayor of Bourges, Yann Galut, told Le Berry Republicain: “The relations and exchanges that we have with Sadio Mane are serious.
“The contacts with the town hall are really there. Will they succeed or not? Given the international context, given the crisis, I don’t know.
“What I can say is that if it had not been for the Covid, we would have already welcomed Sadio Mane to Bourges to speak.
“In the exchanges I had with Sadio Mane, I really liked his philosophy, the fact that if he came to Bourges, and I still insist on the conditional, it would be in an approach that would not be a business approach.
“It would be an approach where training, the medium term, people, would be put forward. I, myself, insisted with him on the importance of women’s sport. There is interest and enthusiasm with us.”

    FOX HUNT
Leicester are 2-0 up away at Aston Villa!
James Maddison and Harvey Barnes have fired the Foxes into an early lead at Villa Park.
Brendan Rodgers’ sit will go second should they hold onto the three points.

    SANCH-OH NO!
Jadon Sancho’s post-match interview following Borussia Dortmund’s demolition of Schalke left fans in hysterics – with claims his accent has taken on a German tinge.
Sancho is in his fourth season in Germany after joining the Bundesliga club from Manchester City as a youngster, and fans believe the stint abroad has taken its toll on his voice.
Fans compared him to Steve McClaren, who infamously morphed his voice into a Dutch accent during his spell in charge of Twente, and Joey Barton who attempted a French accent while with Marseille.
Sancho faced the cameras with fellow Dortmund star Erling Haaland after their 4-0 victory in the Revierderby, with fans claiming the winger – who grew up in Kennington, South London – has taken on a decidedly Germanic lilt.
Twitter user Danny said: “I think being in Germany he made Sancho have a German accent!”
AdamUnitedRed added: “He’s defo [sic] faking it. He will sound British again once he comes to United.”
Meanwhile Mark Handforth joked: “I think he’s suffering from Barton McClaren Syndrome.”

    NEW BOU
Leicester have reportedly joined Manchester United in the race for Boubakary Soumare.
The Lille midfielder has just 18 months left on his contract and is one of France’s brightest talents.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Foxes are interested in Soumare and many clubs have inquired about his availability.
One of those may be AC Milan, who were linked with him last month.
Leicester’s reported interest in the 21-year-old may frustrate United, who have been linked with him for more than a year.
The Red Devils were said to have scouted the youngster in January 2020 with a view to a move that window.

Soumare, 21, has been linked with a host of clubs during the last 12 months

    FULL-TIME
It’s over! West Ham and held on!
And the East Londoners are now up to fourth in the table and are now just one point off second spot!
For Spurs they remain in ninth spot – losing five out of their last six Premier League games.

    GOT GER MAN
Bayern Munich youngster Jamal Musiala will choose to play for Germany over England, according to reports.
The 17-year-old, who could make his international debut next month, was born in Germany but spent most of his childhood in England.
According to the Daily Mail, Musiala is expected to accept an offer from Germany boss Joachim Low to join up with the senior team next month.
And as Germany’s three games are World Cup qualifiers, he will not be able to play for England in the future if he features.
The teenager is also reported to sign a new long-term deal with Bayern, ending any rumours of him joining Manchester United.
The news will disappoint Gareth Southgate as the England manager is said to be a big fan of Musiala.

    NEED MOUR
Lucas Moura has pulled one back for Spurs and now the visitors are chasing an equaliser.
    The Hammers are living dangerously.

    BIELXIT?
Leeds are preparing for life without Marcelo Bielsa next season, admits chairman Andrea Radrizzani – but the Elland Road chief would be “delighted” if the popular boss stays.
Bielsa’s contract at the promoted side expires in the summer, sparking speculation he could be elsewhere next season.
Radrizzani told CBS Sports: “Marcelo knows we are happy with him. If he stays, we are really delighted to continue. If the group is happy with him, I am also happy and we should continue.
“So, it’s up to him. We wait on his decision but in any case, myself and Victor [Orta] have already analysed the options and what to do in case Marcelo does not want to be with us.
“We hope he will continue but in any case we are preparing the club. But I believe this team is not finished yet, and Marcelo as well.
“They need to come and enjoy Elland Road with the fans in the Premier League. It’s what he deserves as a manager, and it’s a unique experience.”

    GARD OF HONOUR

    PARTY LIKE IT’S 1999
Everton’s players celebrated widly in the away dressing room after a first win against Liverpool at Anfield since 1999.
Goals from Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson helped Carlo Ancelotti’s side to a hard-fought 2-0 win in the Merseyside derby to end Liverpool’s unbeaten run in the fixture.
Everton left-back Niels Nkounkou posted footage of the Toffees’ post-match celebrations on Snapchat – with assistant coach Duncan Ferguson even joining in with the antics.
The likes of Lucas Digne and local boys Mason Holgate and Tom Davies could also be seen in the video, as Everton earned a first Merseyside derby win – home or away – for more than 10 years.
Players could be heard screaming with delight in the clip.
And some embraced each other and jumped up and down with joy.

    SOU TOUCH
It’s half-time at the London Stadium, and Tomas Soucek has evoked memories of Terry Butcher with blood pouring from his head after a clash with Davinson Sanchez.
The West Ham star got in the way of Sanchez to prevent a Tottenham equaliser in Sunday lunchtime’s London derby, but got his head split open for his troubles.
With referee Craig Pawson waving play on despite Soucek’s plight, the Czech hardman carried on defending with blood streaming down his face.
Soucek was forced off the field to have stitches after the incident in the 16th minute, before returning to the field seven minutes later.

Tomas Soucek suffered a gruesome head injury against Tottenham

    BACKING TU
Thomas Tuchel has been backed in his controversial decision to hook substitute Callum Hudson-Odoi by former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.
The Chelsea boss replaced Hudson-Odoi with Hakim Ziyech in the 76th minute of Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Southampton, with the England under-21 star having only come on at half-time for Tammy Abraham.
Tuchel was questioned by some for singling out the 20-year-old, but he found support in the shape of Wenger.
The former Arsenal boss had sympathy for Hudson-Odoi – but backed Tuchel in the decision, admitting he had done the same in his managerial career and that the youngster was “not in the game.”
He told BeIN Sport: “I’ve done it once in my life really because I was scared to lose the game because the guy was completely lost.
“Basically he [Hudson-Odoi] played in a Christmas tree, in that position behind the central striker which became Werner in the second half and he [Hudson-Odoi] never found the right position in there.
“I see him more in a wide position and he was not in the game. Was he the guy especially to take off? He didn’t do a lot of positives and not a lot of negatives as well.”

    COVID KO
Man Utd have been hit by a coronavirus outbreak just hours before their Premier League clash at home to Newcastle.
Nicky Butt and Mark Dempsey will join Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on the Manchester United bench for the game with some other members of the coaching staff in self-isolation, the club have announced.
Butt, a long-time team-mate of Solskjaer’s at Old Trafford during their playing days, is the club’s head of development.
Former United player Dempsey returned to the club in 2018 as part of Solskjaer’s staff, having previously worked with the Norwegian at Molde, and is now primarily working with the academy set-up.
The individuals in self-isolation are not being identified due to the privacy of medical information.
It is understood there are no concerns that any players will need to isolate and Sunday’s fixture, scheduled to kick off at 7pm at Old Trafford, will go ahead.

    HAA MUCH?
Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland will demand a £300,000-a-week contract from his next club, according to reports.
The Norwegian superstar has been linked with numerous sides, including Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea.
According to the Daily Star, the 20-year-old wants a basic £300k weekly wage and a five-year deal to leave Dortmund this summer.
Real Madrid are also said to be interested.
Haaland’s agent is Mino Raiola, who also represents United star Paul Pogba.
The striker has been in sensational form this season, scoring 17 Bundesliga goals in as many games.

    BREAKING
Jonatha Woodgate will remain in charge of Bournemouth until the end of the season.
The Cherries confirmed on Sunday that the caretaker boss has had his deal extended.
Former Arsenal striker and current Montreal boss Thierry Henry had been linked with the role.
But reports on Sunday morning said that Bournemouth’s hopes of landing him had faded.
And hours later Woodgate was confirmed as manager until the end of the season.

#afcb can confirm the appointment of Jonathan Woodgate as head coach until the end of the season.

    SAY IT AIN’T SO
EXCLUSIVE – Marcos Alonso is open to signing a new deal at Chelsea after his revival under Thomas Tuchel.

    How the fighters compare
Follow ALL the action with our live blog below…

    BRILLIANT
Relentless pressure from Avanesyan from the moment he was rocked in the second round.
Mad finish, it came from nowhere, but Adam Booth’s towel-throw was a compassionate one.
Kelly will be back, he’s a great fighter, but Avanesyan was a bridge too far this evening.

    HUGE WIN
    Massive win for David Avanesyan.

    AVANESYAN STOPS KELLY!
    WOOOOOW!

    ROUND SIX
More success for Avanesyan, he’s not giving Kelly a second’s rest in there, but PBK looks fit as a fiddle.
It is only round six, however. And Avanesyan gets the knock down!
The pressure has got to him! Big shots from the Russian.

    ROUND FIVE
Better from Avanesyan here, landing a few nice shots, especially the left hand, on Kelly.
Kelly looks like he isn’t bothered by them but he can’t take too many and not expect to feel them at some point.
He’s working in close now Kelly, too. Looking to be the bigger man when they tie up, but Avanesyan is full of beans and is loving it in there.
But so is Kelly, as he decides to come away from the in-fighting, electing to box and move again. I’d give this round to the Russian. 3-2 Kelly.

    ROUND FOUR
Ava trying to work the body in this fourth round, but Kelly still showing his speed with some nice combos.
Kelly also talking to Avanesyan in there, so the Russian tries to corner him but Kelly rises to the task and fires off from the ropes.
PBK probing for Ava to hit him to the body, he better hope that doesn’t come back to haunt him.
This is a real hard, fast-pace fight in London.

    ROUND THREE
That blood really flowing from the back of Kelly’s head somewhere.
But he’s still got that speed advantage and he’s landing some great shots while Ava continues to put rabid pressure on.
Brilliant fight so far, it really is. And it should only get better.
Ava lands a nice right hand but Kelly comes back with lefts of his own.
Could be 3-0 or 2-1 Kelly at this point.

    ROUND TWO
A little marking under the right eye of Kelly, one to watch as the rounds go on. Ava can hit very hard.
The Russian continues to maraud forward, he wants to land and land big, but Kelly doing okay at evading them so far.
And a huge left hand from Kelly in the second round! Brilliant left hook there, he buzzed Avanesyan!
But Kelly seems to have a cut, perhaps from a clash of heads.
He’s got the speed advantage in there big time. Big round for PBK.

    ROUND ONE
Kelly doing his usual, letting big shots fly past him, but he’ll have to be immense tonight to win this one.
It’s Ava with the early attempts to land hard, Kelly just sussing things out a little bit.
But Kelly does land some decent right hands too, good reflexes when they come his way too.
Close first round, could’ve gone either way. 1-0 Kelly?

    ROUND ONE
    Here we go!

    KELLY VS AVANESYAN UP NEXT!
David Diamante doing his usual…. usual.
    We’re just moments away.

    AVA RING-WALK
The Russian makes his walk to the ring, huge night for him, even bigger one for Kelly.

    KELLY RING-WALK
Josh Kelly making his ring-walk right now! Avanesyan coming out next.

    NO ACCESS
Mick Conlan making sure no peepers could see into Josh Kelly’s dressing room a little earlier. Almost time for the main event.

    BIG WIN
Huge win for Florian Marku tonight… and he had to get off the deck to do it.

    OFF THE MARKU
Albanian ace Florian Marku just stopped Rylan Charlton.
The former MMA fighter has just confirmed himself as serious threat to the welterweight division.
Markus said: “It was hard work but we knew it would be. But I showed now that I know how to box.”

    R8 – MARKU WINS
Marku scored with a punishing right hook in the last round but Charlton was not wobbled.
Markus scores again and Charlton is marked and wobbled.
Marku is showing his skills. Charlton is struggling now.
    The towel comes in!

    ROUND SEVEN
Charlton starts the round slashing away but Marku is hard as nails.
Marku has shown loads of talent on the back foot.
Both lads look tired but Charlton is on the front foot.
    What a fight.

    ROUND SEVEN
Marku bounced right up from that decking, the left hook that floored him was not enough to end the fight.
Marku is the real deal – Charlton is the real deal.
These lads deserve to stay in the British title mix.

    ROUND SIX – MARKU DOWN
Marku has started to pull away now with his boxing skills.
Charlton’s face is getting battered and bruised.
Then Charlton lands and Marku is decked.

    ROUND FIVE
Charlton had looked so dominant but Marku connected with a perfect shot.
Charlton has recovered and put pressure on Marku again but Marku can really box on the back foot.
Marku is landing now and punishing his rival. Marku is teasing Charlton with words as spiteful as his punches.

    ROUND FIVE
Charlton was sparked at the end of that round.
Marku’s patience paid off and he clipped the Englishman.
Marku landed a great shot and stalked his man down but Charlton survived.

    ROUND FOUR
Charlton on the march with Marku running out of idea.s.
Marku seemed so sure that Charlton would walk on to one of his shots.
But Charlton is not making any mistakes yet

    ROUND THREE
Charlton is still on the front foot, Markus lands an uppercut though that will have cored with the judges.
Marku shows a busy jab that not many people knew he had.
Charlton whacks Marku to the ribs and stays on his case all the time.

    ROUND TWO
Charlton on the march all the time.
Marku is showing boxing skills we were not sure he had.
Charlton slashes at Marku’s body and he talks back.
But Marku lands a right hand that hurts Charlton.

Messi to Man City latest, Man Utd’s Camavinga update, Liverpool lose, Chelsea win, Arsenal, Tottenham updates

MANCHESTER CITY are weighing up a move for Lionel Messi, but have denied making an official approach for the Barcelona forward.
Meanwhile Chelsea missed the chance to close the gap on Leicester and Manchester United with a draw at Southampton and Liverpool lost to Everton.

BETS OF THE DAY: DON’T MISS TODAY’S BEST ODDS BOOSTS
Read our live blog below to get the latest from around the clubs…

MIKEL: ARSENAL CAN’T DO A MAN CITY
Mikel Arteta has warned: I just cannot do a Pep at Arsenal.
Arteta and Guardiola were both educated in Barcelona’s academy and worked together with great success at Manchester City.

Boss Mikel Arteta hopes Gunners’ fans don’t expect them to rival Man City
But while Guardiola’s first job as a head coach was in charge of Lionel Messi and Co at Barca, putting theory into practice at the Emirates is another kind of task for rookie Arteta.
And with boss Pep already lifting EIGHT trophies at City, if you include Community Shields, the Arsenal boss said: “You cannot compare his situation to the one with us. They are very, very different.
“You can share some values, some ideas and the way we were raised and educated in football is very similar because we had the same background.
“The fact we worked together united us a lot to get that chemistry.
“How do you make it work and what do you need to make it work? You need time. Sometimes you need a lot of investment, sometimes there is a group of players that can already provide that.
“You have to keep evolving and finding a way because there is not one formula that works. You cannot try to follow that because you will fail.”

    UTD ‘BACK IN FOR HAALAND’
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer WILL get the backing to bring the world’s top stars to Old Trafford this summer.
And that means the green light to join rivals Manchester City in the battle for Erling Haaland.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ould launch a new bid for Erling Haaland this summer
It is also the clearest indication yet that the Red Devils manager, 47, will be handed a new deal to continue his overhaul at the end of the season.
United were in the hunt for Haaland, the most wanted striker in Europe, before he joined Borussia Dortmund last January.
A £65million release clause only kicks in next year, meaning anyone wanting to sign the 20-year-old before then will have to pay an inflated premium.
Leeds-born Haaland scored twice last night — one an incredible bicycle-kick — as Dortmund claimed an emphatic 4-0 win at Schalke.
Fellow Norwegian Solskjaer refused to be drawn on specific targets but did admit he has been promised funds will be available to sign the best players around.

    ALONSO EYES NEW CHELSEA DEAL
Marcos Alonso is open to signing a new deal at Chelsea after his revival under Thomas Tuchel.
The Spanish left-back’s camp had been working on a move away from the Blues after he was frozen out by ex-Stamford Bridge boss Frank Lampard.

Marcos Alonso has transformed his Chelsea fortunes under Thomas Tuchel
But now Alonso, 30, who started his career at Real Madrid, is hoping for a one-year extension to his stay at Chelsea.
He had been looking at a final switch to a Premier League rival, or a return to Serie A where he played for Fiorentina.
But the defender’s situation at Stamford Bridge has improved dramatically since Tuchel’s arrival in January.

    HAMMERS FIX DAW
HARRY REDKNAPP EXCLUSIVE: David Moyes won’t win the title with West Ham — but when it comes to the signing of the season he’s in a league of his own.
Actually, he’d have a decent shout of making it a clean sweep with numbers two and three as well, because Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal have both been sensational.

Craig Dawson has been outstanding since stepping up from his Championship fringe role with Watford to a key position for Premier League high-fliers West Ham
But in my opinion, not even those two — outstanding as they have been — can top the impact Craig Dawson has already had in his short time with the club.
Not bad for a bloke who couldn’t even get a game in the Championship before West Ham came in for him in October.
Well, he may have not got further than the bench at Watford — apart from losing a League Cup game at Newport — but he’s one of the first names Moyesie puts on his teamsheet now.
To be honest, there were probably three centre-backs ahead of him when they signed him. And I know a lot of people were thinking, ‘What’s he doing with signing a bloke who can’t get a game?’.
But I speak to West Ham fans a lot — and they’re not doubting him any more. They’re amazed at how amazing he has been.
Whoever came up with the idea — and I assume it’s David — played a blinder, and Dawson will be one of the main men they’re relying on against Tottenham on Sunday as well.

RESULT: FULHAM 1 SHEFF UTD 0
Ademola Lookman’s deserved 61st-minute winner lifted Fulham to within a point of fourth-bottom Newcastle.
The Cottagers survived seven minutes of stoppage time.
But in truth the bottom-placed Blades created little – aside from strong late appeals for a penalty for Alphonse Areola’s tough challenge on Jayden Bogle.

    HE CAN STILL HAK IT
Thomas Tuchel blames himself for Hakim Ziyech’s lack of Chelsea game-time under him so far.
The Blues boss told Sky Sports: “It’s my fault, actually. It’s not his fault.
“It’s my decisions. It’s the same for some other players – there were some hard decisions to make. This is a good thing – it means we have quality.
“There are some decisions for other players that means Hakim suffers a little bit. I can absolutely understand and agree with that, so it’s my responsibility and my fault that he cannot show more of his potential.
“But when I look at the schedule we can be sure that we need all of our players. No matter how hard times are for you personally, I cannot say one bad thing for Hakim.
“He’s working hard and he needs to show that he’s ready because when the moment comes – I cannot tell you when the moment comes – but we expect the best Hakim Ziyech.”

    WOLVES JOIN ODILON HUNT
Wolves fancy making a move for Club Brugge’s £20million-rated Ivory Coast centre-back Odilon Kossounou.
Boss Nuno Espirito Santo is looking to toughen his back line — but faces competition from a number of top clubs around Europe for the 20-year-old.

Club Brugge defender Odilon Kossounou has been eyed by Liverpool as well as Wolves
Inter and AC Milan are both keen on Kossounou, who is in his first season in Belgium after a brief spell with Swedish club Hammarby.
The Italian duo have been quoted a fee and Brugge will hold out for a big sum, knowing the player is keen on the Premier League.
Liverpool have also checked on Kossounou — but decided to take Ozan Kabak on loan with a view to doing a permanent deal.

First-half dangerman Ademola Lookman lashed home Fulham’s belated opener on 61 minutes.

DON’T PUT IT ALL ON REDS
Liverpool have been made odds-on to miss out on a Champions League spot this season.
The Champions disastrous season hit a new low following a 2-0 defeat to Everton – the first time their local rivals had won at Anfield since 1999.
The result meant the Reds have lost a fourth home game in a row and missed the chance to go level on points with fourth-placed Chelsea.
Jurgen Klopp’s men are down in sixth and have now been made odds-on at 10/11 to finish outside the spots for a Champions League place.
That marks a stark drop from just two weeks ago when Liverpool were just 4/1 before losses to Leicester and Everton.
Betfair Spokesperson, Sam Rosbottom said: “Liverpool have now lost four consecutive Premier League matches for the first time since December 2002 and their hopes of a top-four spot are dwindling.
“Following the derby defeat, we now make them odds-on at 10/11 to miss out on a place in the Champions League spots come the end of the season.
“Not many punters fancied Everton’s chances today, but they overcame odds of 8/1 to record their first win at Anfield since 1999, while a correct score of 2-0 to the Toffees was matched at 79/1 in-play shortly before Richarlison put the visitors ahead.”

    S/H: FULHAM 0 SHEFF UTD 0
So far the Cottagers look like a point is the least they will get from this bottom-three clash.
If that assessment doesn’t spark a Blades turnaround then nothing will..

    HAALAND GLOBE TOPPER
Erling Haaland continued to stake his claim as the world’s top striker with a stunning scissor kick past Schalke.
Borussia Dortmund romped home 4-0 in the Revierderby thanks to another fantastic display from the Norwegian and Jadon Sancho.

    — Football on BT Sport (@btsportfootball) February 20, 2021

It was the England winger who put Borussia on top after struggling Schalke were forced into surrendering possession in their own half.
Sancho struck a precise effort in at the near-post and passionately pounded the Borussia badge on his chest in celebration.
Dortmund doubled their advantage minutes later when 20-year-olds Sancho and Haaland added to their repertoire of combinations.
The striker leapt up to provide an acrobatic scissor kick from Sancho’s cross, finding the bottom corner in elegant fashion.
Amid fears that the former Manchester City man had started the season slowly, he now boasts 10 goals and 15 assists in all competitions.

    KLOPP BLAMES NIGTMARE START
Jurgen Klopp blamed Liverpool’s 2-0 home loss to Everton on Richarlison’s soft third-minute opener.
The Reds’ boss claims his sinking champs played well enough to deserve much more.
But he told the BBC: “We conceded this early goal – it was completely unnecessary.
“This gives the game a direction we don’t need so we had to chase the game… and we did that really well.
“So, creative wise in a tricky game for different reasons, we created some stuff.
“We changed our formation slightly in the second half, which they couldn’t really cope with.
“We had good opportunities but didn’t take them – so who can you criticise apart from yourself?”
But Klopp hopes the performance will inspire confidence and a revival. for sixth-placed Liverpool
He added: “I don’t like to talk about the good stuff because we lost the game but I have to use that – that is our lifeline.”

The Cottagers dominated the first 45 minutes, the Blades having neither a single goal attempt or even a touch in the home box.

CARLO SALUTES PICKFORD AFTER TOFFEES’ DERBY JOY
Boss Carlo Ancelotti is targeting a European spot next season as he hailed under-fire keeper Jordan Pickford following Everton’s 2-0 win at Liverpool.
After the Toffees’ first victory at Anfield in the Premier League for 22 years, Ancelotti told Sky Sports: “I am very pleased for the club and the supporters.

“I hope for sure that they are going to celebrate tonight. It was a good performance. A lot of fight and spirit. I am really happy.
“We have to find more consistency at home and we are working on this. We are fighting for Europe and now we are in a good position.
“This kind of performance helps to improve the belief of the team.
“Jordan did really well. He accepted the criticism. You have to do that and try to be better and he did it.”

    WIJNALDUM: DEFEAT SO PAINFUL
Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum is urging Jugen Klopp’s devastated players to man up after Everton’s “painful” and historic 2-0 derby win at Anfield.
Wijnaldum says despite being “upset” by a chronic injury list the fast-fading champs can’t “play the victims”.
The Dutchman insisted Liverpool were the “better” team but paid for conceding a sloppy early opener to Richardson.
And he told Sky Sports: “We have to deal with the situation and not feel sorry for ourselves.
“We have to give until the end of the season, it is painful and you could see if on the faces of the players.
“Winning games in the Premier League is always difficult and the injuries don’t make it easier.
“We still have a squad who can change it around and we have to work harder to change it around.”

    OLE HELPED GREENWOOD AGED 7
Mason Greenwood was taking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s advice long before his Manchester United debut – even as a seven-year-old.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was doing his coaching badges when he first gave tips to Mason Greenwood, who was with the Man Utd U-8s.
The Norwegian spoke to Greenwood while the striker was still a young lad in the academy.
Playing in the youth setup alongside Solskjaer’s son, Noah, he was given a few tips while the club legend did his training badges.
Greenwood, 19, recalled in a chat with Rio Ferdinand for BT Sport: “He spoke to me.
“He came and did his coaching badges at United.
“I was only with the Under-8s and Under-9s and I trained with his son.
“He was telling me about that, I couldn’t remember it because I was so young but he told me about it.
“He always speaks about movements into the box, shooting and stuff, so it was a good benefit to have him there.”

    ATLETICO LOSE UNBEATEN HOME RECORD
LaLiga leaders Atletico Madrid suffered a shock first home defeat of the season ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League home clash with Chelsea – 2-0 agsinst Levante.

Levante celebrate on the way to a fine win that lifted them to eighth in LaLiga
Without Kieran Trippier and Stefan Savic, Diego Simeone’s side shot themselves in the foot after half an hour at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Geoffrey Kondogbia lost the ball on the 18-yard line to allow Jose Luis Morales a powerful shot that beat Jan Oblak and went in off a post for his 12th goal of the season.
Atletico’s ex-Barcelona striker Luis Suarez, going into the game with seven goals in his last five, hit the post from a free-kick.
And Simeone threw on Lyon loanee Moussa Dembele for his debut, as well as Thomas Lemar, both having recovered from coronavirus.
But Levante held firm and nabbed a second goal late on through Jorge de Frutos.

    WENGER’S VIEIRA VS CESC CHOICE
Arsene Wenger agonised when asked to choose between Arsenal midfield legends Patrick Vieira and Cesc Fabregas.
The ex-Gunners boss opted for former France star Vieira’s more athletic qualties over Spaniard Fabregas’ passing qualities, after being posed the question by pundit Andy Gray.
Speaking on beIN SPORTS, Wenger said: “Well, Andy, they were both of my former players so that is very difficult.
“I always say, and I said that in my book, the guy that gave me time and credit at Arsenal was Patrick Vieira, because he was the first player I bought.
“And Fabregas was an exceptional football player. And still is, because he is still playing.”
Wenger was speaking after Vieira went head-to-head with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry for the Bournemouth job.
Although Wenger opted for Vieira, he admitted Fabregas was the type of player he used to go for more during his managerial career.
Wenger said: “Having smaller players, I went for football that was more based on mobility and less on impact. More on getting out of challenges than going into the challenges.”
