    THAT’S ALL FROM SELHURST PARK
A pair of lifeless, goalless draws at the weekend, perhaps tonight’s result was an inevitability.
Crystal Palace and Manchester United continued where they left off on Sunday by keeping it tight at the back but creating little in attack.
For United, it meant extending their club record to 21 away games without defeat, but it was also a third successive games without scoring as they again failed to take advantage in the race to secure Champions League football.
The Eagles were unsuccessful in landing their first league double over the Red Devils, but four points from the Old Trafford club is a fine return for a Palace side that have never had so many points at this stage of a Premier League season.
The Selhurst Park outfit are surely now free from the threat of relegation, but the fans want more than the safety first football of Roy Hodgson. Time to kick on? Or should they be careful what they wish for?
We’re back tomorrow with more Premier League football including Liverpool’s home game with Chelsea. Until then, thanks for reading and goodnight.

    SOLSKJAER REACTION
A frustrated Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted this evening’s performance was disheartening, but believes it’s down to little more than human nature.

It’s disappointing. We were just a little bit off. If you’re not spot on you won’t win games. Palace always make it hard for you, and in the second half we never got going.

    LUKE LOOKING GOOD AGAIN
Left-back Luke Shaw was once again Manchester United’s standout performer, constantly getting himself up and down the flank, and creating chances with teasing crosses.

    RUN ON THE ROAD CONTINUES
The last four days have hardly been inspiring from a Manchester United perspective, but two goalless draws on their travels has taken the Red Devils’ unbeaten away run to 21 league games.

14 – Manchester United are the fifth team to remain unbeaten in their first 14 away top-flight matches in a season (W8 D6), after Leeds United in 1973-74, Liverpool in 1987-88 and Arsenal in both 2001-02 and 2003-04. Solace. pic.twitter.com/eYiHWie4OC

Crystal Palace didn’t have a shot on target in the first half, Manchester United didn’t have one in the second.
In fact, United’s only goalbound attempt came from Nemanja Matic in the 13th minute.

    CRYSTAL CLEAN
It’s been a happy new year so far for Vincente Guaita and his Crystal Palace defence.

FT: CRYSTAL PALACE 0-0 MAN UTD
Thanks heavens that’s over. It’s been a drab, goalless evening at Selhurst Park. In a game of few chances, United’s best fell to Marcus Rashford in the first half while Patrick van Aanholt almost won it at the death for Palace, and would have done had it not been for Dean Henderson.

PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!THE FINAL WHISTLE PUTS US OUT OF OUR MISERY!

    CRYSTAL PALACE 0-0 MAN UTD
90+2. The last act of this uneventful affair is for Ande Marriner to issue its first yellow card. Riedewald is booked for chopping McTominay.

    CRYSTAL PALACE 0-0 MAN UTD
    90. Big save from Henderson!
The Manchester United goalkeeper has had barely anything to do all game, but with just 15 seconds remaining on the clock, finds himself facing up to Van Aanholt.
The Palace left-back creeps in round the back to leave himself one-on-one with Henderson, who stands tall to block what many thought was a certain goal.
The Dutchman may well have been in an offside position, but neither the goalkeeper nor Van Aanholt knew for certain.

    CRYSTAL PALACE 0-0 MAN UTD
    88. United come again, moving play from right to left and back again as they look to create a space to exploit.
Eventually, a delivery comes in from the right flank that sees Rashford mistimes his header. Shaw then fires wide.

    CRYSTAL PALACE 0-0 MAN UTD
    86. The corner is comfortably dealt with by the Palace defence. The home side’s back four have actually been very good this evening.

    CRYSTAL PALACE 0-0 MAN UTD
    85. Wan-Bissaka starts United’s latest attack by playing a one-two with McTominay. Greenwood and Fernandes move the ball on Shaw, who’s attempted cross brings a corner.

    CRYSTAL PALACE 0-0 MAN UTD
    84. Palace make their second substitution that sees the return of Jeffrey Schlupp. He’s on for Eberechi Eze.

    CRYSTAL PALACE 0-0 MAN UTD
    81. Greenwood has a good go at doing just that!
It’s better from Fernandes, who is quick to move the ball on and into the box by firing a pass into the feet of Greenwood. The youngster takes a good touch to make some space before unleashing a shot on the turn that is no more than a yard over the crossbar.

    CRYSTAL PALACE 0-0 MAN UTD
    80. Into the final ten minutes. Can someone – anyone – find a winner?

    CRYSTAL PALACE 0-0 MAN UTD
    78. Chance for United!
He’s only been on for a matter of moments, but James finds himself all alone in the eighteen yard-box as Shaw arrows in a cross.
The substitute does everything right in timing his run, jump, and twist, but forgets the most important aspect of all – connecting with the ball.

    CRYSTAL PALACE 0-0 MAN UTD
    77. Eze backs into Bailly, and sends the defender crashing to the ground with a show of force.
VAR take a quick look to ensure there was nothing untoward in Eze’s actions, and the game continues.

    CRYSTAL PALACE 0-0 MAN UTD
    76. Here’s another switch for the visitors. Dan James comes on for Edinson Cavani, and it will mean some tweaks in the United forward line.
James goes to the right, Rashford on the left with Greenwood playing through the centre.

    CRYSTAL PALACE 0-0 MAN UTD
    74. Manchester United make their first change, and I’m not sure it’s one to inspire a late burst of entertaining, attacking football.
Defensive midfielder Scott McTominay is on for defensive midfielder Fred.

    CRYSTAL PALACE 0-0 MAN UTD
    72. Fernandes, who has been anonymous in the second half, berates Andre Marriner for not awarding him a free-kick after he was fairly tackled by Riedewald.

INTER MILAN will reportedly have to stump up £43m for Romelu Lukaku or sell Man Utd a player as collateral after missing a payment for the Belgian.
And the Red Devils are reportedly ready to demand either Lautaro Martinez or Milan Skriniar should the Italians not be able to come up with the money.

We’ve also got all the latest from the Premier League, including news from Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham.

    FIRST TUCH
Borussia Monchengladbach ace Jonas Hofmann has hinted at a potential reunion with Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea.
He told Ruhr Nachrichten: “Basically, I feel good at Borussia, I’ve always emphasised that.
“It may be that one or the other club has expressed its interest.
“Nevertheless, for me, the absolute focus is on having a successful season with Borussia and dedicating myself fully to success. I put my personal situation under it.
“‘I think it’s clear that other clubs will notice you if you perform well. Therefore, it is possible that one or the other has already asked.”

    BRU BE CAREFUL
Bruno Fernandes’ penchant for extra sessions after training could land him in fitness trouble, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been warned.
Former Sporting CP coach Jose Peseiro has revealed the playmaker’s amazing dedication to football.
The 60-year-old told BBC Sport: “Normally when training finished, he’d have lunch in the club and then he would go to watch the U19s or U23s play.
“He liked to see the matches more than the others. He wanted to see the new, young players and speak to them to learn who they are and what they are doing on the pitch.
“He liked too much to see football. He lives for football.
“He wants to train too much, he wants to train more than is possible.
“The coach needs to say, ‘Bruno, stop!’ because he wants to train every minute of the day.
“At the end of a training session he will want to stay out and shoot. If there is a ball there, he will want to do something whether it’s before training, during training or after training. He enjoys it so much.”

    THREE’S COMPANY
Jurgen Klopp has been handed a welcome boost with Alisson, Diogo Jota and Fabinho all returning to training.
He said: “Alisson and Fabinho, I’m pretty sure [will be available for the match against Chelsea]
“With Diogo, he was with us in the hotel, but he got sick overnight and we had to send him home. It depends how quick he will recover, obviously.
“He was in the squad and as I said before, he trained with the team and it all looked really good but unfortunately he got sick overnight.
“I think he will be available, but I don’t know.”

    BLUES LOSE
Chelsea have ‘no chance’ of signing Erling Haaland from Dortmund this summer – it’s been claimed.
The Norwegian striker, 20, is one of the hottest young properties in European football with transfer interest across the continent.
And respected German outlet Sport Bild say that Chelsea have ‘no chance’ to sign the £150m striker, and neither do Bayern Munich.
The report in Germany also says that Haaland has narrowed his choices down to six clubs.
Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City would be the only Premier League sides Haaland might join.

    GLOVES ARE ON
Gianluigi Buffon could extend his career yet again this summer – but will finally hang up his gloves by 2023.
The Juventus star, who boasts a World Cup, ten Serie A titles and a host of other trophies and records from a long playing career, turned 43 in January.
The keeper told the Guardian: “I’ve learned nothing is certain in life.”
He added: “Look, in my head, there truly is a final stop sign.
“A maximum bar, which is June 2023, that is the maximum, really, really the maximum.
“But I could also stop playing in four months.”

    BARC-ING UP THE WRONG TREE
Mikel Arteta insists he is ‘focused’ on Arsenal after sensational reports linking him with Barcelona.
He said: “There is always going to be speculation when there are elections in Barcelona. It’s a huge team.
“Obviously I was raised there as a player and they’re always going to be linked.
“I’m fully focused on the job that I have to do here, and we have a lot to do. I’m really enjoying it.
“I am the manager of Arsenal Football Club, and I’m really enjoying it. I want to do much better than what we’ve done.”

    FERN FADE
Bruno Fernandes might be trying too hard to make an impact in big games, ex-Man Utd assistant coach Rene Meulensteen reckons.
He told Stadium Astro: “When he influences games, he’s on the ball a lot.
“He drifts everywhere, players are more than happy to give him the ball and he’s established a link with the front players like Rashford.
But the bigger teams do their homework.
“They know that if you can stop Fernandes getting on the ball or into danger areas and stop the passing lines he’s looking for, you basically stop Manchester United from creating anything.”
Meulensteen, 56, added: “He’s trying too hard maybe at times and that’s why things don’t work.
“Sometimes less is more. Be a little calmer, make sure you influence the game and keep it ticking over. That’s what I feel is missing to give United a real rhythm of play.”

    YU BEAUTY
The FA reportedly believes England are in ‘pole position’ to seal Yunus Musah’s international future.
The Three Lions suffered a major blow last week when they lost out to Germany for youngster Jamal Musiala.
Despite playing for England at youth level, Bayern Munich’s former Chelsea ace opted to pledge his allegiance to their international rivals.
Now Gareth Southgate’s side are in a battle with USA for Valencia’s talented 18-year-old forward Musah, but the FA are believed to have received a boost following the loss of Musiala.
Musah has won two senior caps already for the USA, the country he was born in, but is eligible for England.
And the Daily Mail claims it is his preference to pursue an international career with England.

England are in ‘pole position’ to land Yunus Musah ahead of USA

    GOOD SENS
Man City are keeping tabs on Atalanta ace Robin Gosens, according to reports.
Gosens has put together a string of impressive displays with the Serie A outfit with nine goals and six assists in 30 matches across all competitions under his belt.
According to Tuttomercato, the left-back has attracted interest from City, who see him as a “modern” player.
Manager Pep Guardiola seems set to open some space at left-back as the Manchester giants are reportedly listening to offers for Oleksandr Zinchenko.
Gosens’ contract expires next year and could find himself subject to a bidding war thanks to his sparkling form.

    SKINTER MILAN
Inter Milan have MISSED their latest payment as part of the deal to sign Romelu Lukaku with Manchester United demanding ‘compensation’, according to reports in Italy.
The Serie A giants signed the Belgian striker, 27, in a £73million deal in 2019, and Inter are claimed to have £43m of that figure still to pay.
Corriere dello Sport have now alleged the San Siro side have missed an agreed upon bonus payment, worth around £4.3m.
Under the terms of the initial Lukaku deal, it’s alleged Inter must now pay the remaining £43m fee in full or accept United’s request for compensation.
According to the report in Italy, Man Utd have told Inter they’re willing to waive the outstanding balance in return for one of their star players.
Centre-back Milan Skriniar and striker Lautaro Martinez are the two players mentioned by name in Corriere dello Sport, with United desperate for star reinforcements in both positions.
However, SunSport understands United would not accept any player as a makeweight.

    JU BEAUTY
Juventus have confirmed the permanent signing of Weston McKennie from Schalke.
The American midfielder has starred for the Old Lady on loan -chipping in with four goals and two assists in 21 Serie A matches.
And Juve have swiftly turned his loan into a permanent stay.

    GUNS BLAZING
Mikel Arteta says Arsenal are already planning an ‘unprecedented’ summer transfer window to help take the club to ‘next level’.
He said: “We are planning what’s going to happen in the summer. It will depend on where we finish, how we finish.
“I think what we have to do in the summer is unprecedented for a club of this stature.
“To do the amount of transactions that we have to make it tells you as well where we are. I think it was very much needed and you want to improve, you want to do that.
“It’s where you have things in the house and you believe that you can improve on it.
“Externally acquiring players to go to the next level. Everything is planned and let’s see what the market can bring and what the last few months can bring to the club.”

    RAPH WARS
Leeds have issued a hands off warning to Prem rivals for Brazilian star Raphinha.
Manchester United and Liverpool are among the sides keeping a close eye on the 24-year-old winger.
Raphinha joined from Rennes in October and has five goals and five assists for the Elland Road side.
And the Mirror report that Leeds are under no pressure to sell the Brazilian prospect to United.
Raphinha has been one of Leeds’ best players in their first season back in the Premier League.
The Whites forked out £17million for Raphinha last year following a single season in France.

    LUC OUT
Real Madrid have been issued with a contract ultimatum by star winger Lucas Vazquez, according to reports.
Vazquez’s deal at the Santiago Bernabeu runs out at the end of the season and talks over a contract extension have hit a snag.
According to ABC, the Spain international is asking for a four-year extension with a 15 per cent increase in his wages and wants it all to be sorted within this month.
The 29-year-old, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham and Everton in the summer, turns 30 in July and wants to seal the last major contract of his career.
If Real meet his demands then Vazquez’s annual salary would rise north of €5million-a-year (£4m).
But Los Blancos are only willing to offer a three-year extension and have to impose a 10 per cent reduction on all players’ contracts due to the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Real Madrid ace Lucas Vazquez has issued a contract ultimatum

    KANT HAVE ME
N’Golo Kante has revealed the reasons behind his decision to snub a move to Thomas Tuchel’s Paris Saint-Germain.
The German is now Kante’s manager at Chelsea having left Ligue 1 late last year – where he had tried to land the midfield star.
But the 29-year-old’s happiness at Stamford Bridge meant he did not consider the offer.
Kante told the club website: “I knew in the past there was some contact with Paris Saint-Germain when he was the manager, but it was not something I wanted.
“It did not happen because I was happy at Chelsea and I stayed here.
“I haven’t spoken to the manager about it!”

    I GOT SOL
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has vowed that he IS a sore loser amid criticism of his approach to big games.
Manchester United have played it safe against many of their ‘Big Six’ rivals this season, leading to a mixed response from fans.
But the Norwegian, 48, has maintained that he certainly does get fired up over dropped points – even more so than Bruno Fernandes.
Speaking last week, he told reporters: “If you are at Manchester United and enjoy losing, you are at the wrong place.
“I don’t show my frustration maybe so much as Bruno but I think maybe I am the worst loser at the club.
“You have probably not seen it but some of the players have.”

    MIRACLE NO2
A survivor of the 2016 Chapecoense plane crash has miraculously cheated death AGAIN – after walking away from a coach smash that left 21 people dead.
Erwin Tumiri was one of just six people to survive the 2016 plane crash that tragically killed most of Brazilian football team Chapecoense.
It has now emerged that the 30-year-old has cheated death for a second time in less than five years after a packed coach careered down a hillside near the Bolivian city of Cochabamba.
The death toll from Tuesday morning’s tragedy currently stands at 21 and more than 30 people are said to have been injured.
Erwin, one of the crew on board the Chapecoense plane, told local media of his incredible new escape.
He said: “I was feeling a bit sleepy and listening to music on my mobile phone when I heard people screaming.
“The only thing I could do was hold onto the seat in front of me, broaden my shoulders and lean against the window so I wouldn’t move as the coach overturned.”

    VIC’S TOP PICKS
Victor Moses has delivered a snub to Jose Mourinho by insisting Neil Warnock is a better manager than the Special One.
The Nigeria international, 30, is still under contract at Chelsea but is currently on loan at Spartak Moscow.
Moses was asked to name the top list of coaches he has worked under throughout his career, and he ranked both Warnock, 72, and Roberto Martinez higher than Mourinho.
He told Spartak’s official website: “[Antonio] Conte is on this list.
“He helped me to believe in myself. And that’s purely from a human perspective and not because he found me a new position on the right side of the defence.”
Moses continued: “Next Roberto Martinez, Rafael Benitez. Neil Warnock, with whom I made my debut at Crystal Palace. [Domenico] Tedesco. And also Mark Hughes.

    BRU-NO
Bruno Fernandes should NOT win the PFA Player of the Year award, with Manchester City stars much more deserving, according to Paul Scholes.
Speaking on Optus Sport’s Matchday Live, Scholes said: “What he’s brought to this United team has been special.
He creates goals, scores – not in the big games – but in a lot of them.”
Before adding: “He should be right in the mix, there is no doubt about that.
“But I am always a believer the best players are the players playing for the team that wins the league.
“There are a few City players I’d go for before Bruno.”

    LAP IT UP
Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta has warned fans: No me, no Lionel Messi.
Over 110,000 clubs members will cast their votes for Barca’s next president when elections commence on March 7.
As reported by Marca, Laporta said: “I have a great relationship with Leo [Messi] and he will consider whatever proposal I make.
“If I don’t win, I am sure that Leo will not stay at Barcelona. Messi will weigh up the offer we make him.
“I’m convinced that if the other candidates win, Messi will not remain at Barcelona.
“He wasn’t happy during Freixa’s time on the board. He’s not guided just by money. He wants a competitive team to win.
“I’m sure he’ll listen to my offer, just as I am [sure] that if someone else wins he will leave.”

    ART DEALER
Mikel Arteta has spoken of rumours linking him with the managerial role at Barcelona.
He said: “There is always going to speculation when there are elections in Barcelona. It’s a huge team.
“Obviously I was raised there as a player and they’re always going to be linked.
“I’m fully focused on the job that I have to do here, and we have a lot to do. I’m really enjoying it.”
Asked whether he could join the Blaugrana one day, he added: “Today and tomorrow, I am the manager of Arsenal Football Club, and I’m really enjoying it. I want to do much better than what we’ve done.”

    TUCH ‘N GO
Chelsea travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool in a massive six-pointer in the race for a top-four spot on Wednesday night.
The Blues sit one point above Jurgen Klopp’s squad in fifth place with both clubs looking to bounce back from a tricky winter.
And Thomas Tuchel has a near-full-strength squad to choose from for the monster clash on Merseyside.
The West Londoners lost the reverse fixture 2-0 in September thanks to a Sadio Mane double.
But facing an injury-ravaged Reds, Chelsea will fancy their chances.
Here’s how the Blues could line-up.

    EDS UP
Arsenal have reportedly made an enquiry to sign Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard.
The Gunners are looking for new options up front with Alexandre Lacazette likely to leave this summer.
And 23-year-old Celtic forward Edouard fits the bill for the Gunners, reports say.
The Transfer Window Podcast claim that Arsenal have made contact and Celtic are looking for £21.5million.
Edouard joined from PSG in 2018 having previously had a loan spell in Glasgow.
He has scored 21 goals in 34 appearances in all competitions this season at Celtic Park.

Odsonne Edouard has reportedly been lined up by Arsenal for a summer swoop

    RICHARDSON CONTINUED
“A new owner could deliver that. If they want to stay in the league the best way would be to come and give new energy to the players.
“It is a great club, we have some great young players and it is still all to play for.
“If you want to be here for 15 or 20 years I don’t think you should worry about what league you are in.
“This club has had lean times before but has grown quickly. The good times are only round the corner.”

    RICH SPIRITS
Wigan boss Leam Richardson is pleading to the club’s Bahraini owners-in-waiting to step in and raise spirits.
The mystery Middle East group have been given the nod by the EFL but have stalled on completing a takeover with the administrators.
That has led to fears that the would-be buyers are reluctant to commit until finding out if Latics are to drop to League Two with a second successive relegation.
Richardson thinks a quick decision would help save them on the field and said: “The whole place has been waiting for a lift for nine months.
“Once we did get that I think people would step up to the plate and we would have things to play for. They would have direction and leadership.”

What a second half of football, and Wolves can leave with their heads held high despite conceding four!
The visitors found themselves back on level terms after Coady met Moutinho’s free-kick and glanced the ball into the far corner.
Man City fought their way back into the lead and Jesus was the man latching onto a loose ball inside the penalty area and smashing City’s second home.
Mahrez got in on the act late on, finishing low past Patricio.
And Jesus added a fourth, pouncing on Patricio’s save from Gundogan.

And he will look to double up with Mahrez to potentially find another goal to kill the game off.

    MAN CITY 2-1 WOLVES
    81. Great response from the league-leaders, Wolves had a good spell of possession and they weathered the storm.

    NOU AGE ART
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is reportedly open to managing Barcelona one day but is focused solely on his job in North London at present.
The Gunners gaffer is claimed to be on the Blaugrana’s shortlist to replace Ronald Koeman should Joan Laporta be crowned as the club’s next president.
Former Barca academy star Arteta is not believed to be the LaLiga outfit’s No1 choice, with Xavi understood to be their preferred option.
According to Football.London, the 38-year-old has had no contact with Barcelona, with the Spanish side having no interest in hiring him currently.
However they state that the club are admirers of his work, with Arteta welcoming the idea of being in charge at the Nou Camp in the future.
But with his contract at the Emirates not expiring until 2023, the ex-Everton skipper is only thinking of his current job.

    RAM’D WITH SERG IN QUESTIONS
Zinedine Zidane eventually exploded after constant questions regarding Sergio Ramos’ contract, blasting it as ‘madness’.
The Real Madrid boss faces the prospect of losing his captain on a free transfer with his current deal expiring this summer.

And despite the defender being out injured since January, press conferences are dominated with questions about Ramos.
Speaking ahead of the LaLiga clash with Real Sociedad – in which Vinicius Junior scored an 89th-minute equaliser – Zidane was quizzed once more, this time losing his cool.
The Frenchman said: “You always ask me the same thing, it’s madness. That’s impressive mate.
“I want him to get fit, but apart from that, nothing else. Tomorrow we have a game.
“What more should I say about it now? I have no idea. I just said that we are only thinking about the game. I want that to be sorted out as soon as possible.”

    GHAN IN A FLASH
Michael Essien has come in for a barrage of abuse after declaring his support for gay rights in Ghana.
The Chelsea icon won 58 caps for his country and still commands vast attention there.

Michael Essien deleted this social media post after a backlash
Essien sparked controversy with his pro-equality message in a nation where homosexuality is still illegal.
The ex-midfielder, 38, wrote on Instagram: “Ghana supports equality. We see you, we support you.
“Our LGBTQIA plus Community in Ghana.”
However dad-of-two Essien deleted his post after being bombarded with abuse and criticism.
One comment on his post read: “You just lost your one follower, good luck, byee.”

    RAPH AND READY
Real Madrid are reportedly ready to sell Raphael Varane to Manchester United.
The Frenchman looks set to snub the offer of the Real club captaincy which will force the Spanish giants to cash in this summer.
The 27-year-old defender has entered the final 18 months of his contract at the Bernabeu where he has been for 10 years.
And he is dragging his feet over whether to commit his future to the LaLiga giants.
With fellow centre-back and United target Sergio Ramos, 34, becoming a free agent in June, Real have made it a ‘priority’ to tie down Varane long-term.
But the two parties are said to be too far apart on salary expectations despite Real including the club captaincy as part of the deal to try and tempt him.
As a result, Real will cash in at the end of the season rather than lose him for nothing next summer, according to MEN.

    REVOLVING DOR
Borussia Dortmund see Sevilla ace Youssef En-Nesyri as a potential replacement for star striker Erling Haaland, according to reports.
Haaland has set the world on fire with his goalscoring exploits as he already counts a staggering 27 goals in 26 matches across all competitions for Dortmund this season.

Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri could replace Erling Haaland at Borussia Dortmund
That has led to immense interest from some of Europe’s big hitters, including Manchester United and Chelsea, ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to Eurosport, Dortmund seem fully aware that they won’t be able to hold on to the Norway international for long and are starting to think ahead.
The Bundesliga giants are already seeking for a potential replacement in case Haaland leaves in the summer and seem to have found him in En-Nesyri.
The Morocco international has netted a total of 13 goals in 24 appearances in LaLiga for Sevilla ever since his move from Leganes last summer.

    KICKING IT OFF
Arsene Wenger blueprint to make football better will be discussed by the game’s lawmakers on Friday.
SunSport revealed last year how the former Arsenal boss wants to bring in a ‘daylight’ law to reduce the number of offside calls and bring more goals.
Wenger’s stance is backed by Fifa President Gianni Infantino.
And Wenger is also pushing for a number of other Law changes designed to speed up the game and provide more entertainment for fans.
Wenger, who was appointed by Infantino as Fifa’s head of global football development in 2019, believes that players should be able to take quick free-kicks to themselves, as is allowed in rugby union and hockey.
That idea has already been backed by Gary Lineker and others.
Wenger is also proposing that teams can take kick-ins, rather than throw-ins, from within their own half, believing it will give sides more of an advantage in possession.

    NEED FOR SPEED
Paul Scholes reckons Thiago would’ve been a better fit for Manchester United than ‘100mph’ Liverpool.
The Spanish midfielder joined from Bayern Munich in the summer and has struggled to find his feet at Anfield.
Former United midfielder Scholes explained to Premier League Productions: “The way Liverpool play with the three in midfield, I don’t think he has great legs about him, so that central role would suit him down to the ground.
“Once you are in a wider position in the three, it’s very difficult to get around the pitch because he’s not that type of player.
“He just needs to be sat in the middle, controlling things, bringing players into play and that’s what he’s good at – I just wonder if this way of playing that Liverpool play is suited to his style of football.
“He doesn’t seem a Jurgen Klopp type player, does he? You think of the midfield players he has got and the forward players. Everything is 100 miles per hour.
“I thought he would have been more suited to a Manchester United team. In a two in midfield with a holding player, really good strong defensive player, where he can sit and control games.
“Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool, I don’t see them controlling games. I see them going for the throat in teams. He hasn’t got that energy to really overpower midfield players.”

    EUR WELCOME
Boris Johnson’s offer to stage the whole of Euro 2020 has been welcomed by European football chiefs.
Wembley is already due to stage SEVEN games at the tournament, including all three of England’s opening group matches, both semi-finals and the July 11 Final.

But the PM’s invitation, exclusively revealed by The Sun yesterday, has opened the way for the ultimate summer of football across the country.
One source told The Sun: “It is great for us that England is so keen to play its part this summer.”
European football’s governing body Uefa plans to confirm the schedule for this summer’s delayed tournament by April 7.
That is the date Euro bosses have ordered the current 12 planned host cities to confirm their willingness to host games.
But Uefa is demanding that ALL hosts commit to staging games with fans inside grounds.

    ‘HEALTH OVER FOOTBALL’
Fulham star Kevin McDonald has revealed he has been battling chronic kidney disease for the past 12 years – and hopes to have a transplant in April.
The Scot, 32, has not played since coming on as a sub against Cardiff in July and many were surprised when he did not go out on loan in January.

Fulham’s Kevin McDonald revealed his battle with kidney diseaseCredit: Getty Images – Getty
But McDonald has now explained the reason why by disclosing his kidney failure which he has had to manage throughout the majority of his career.
He said: “I have been fighting chronic kidney disease, a kidney failure, pretty much ever since I started playing football.
“I have been under the orders of the doctors my whole career.
“No one sees this part of football. People just see you on the pitch and they have their opinions of you on the pitch, and that’s that.
“I have had a lot of people asking about why am I not playing, why did I not go out on loan and this and that.
“It is something that we did not want to share until this moment, because obviously what’s coming up (with the transplant), it probably needs to be said now.”

    RONALD-WOE
Cristiano Ronaldo’s abysmal free-kick record at Juventus has been revealed – and it makes for horrendous viewing.
The Portuguese superstar, 36, has been a goalscoring machine for the Serie A giants since arriving in a £99million move from Real Madrid in 2018.
Ronaldo has scored 91 goals in 118 games, while winning two Serie A titles since moving from the Bernabeu.
However, his set-pieces have left much to be desired – scoring just ONE in 65 attempts.

    RUNNING WILD
Chris Wilder has cast doubt on his Sheffield United future after hinting at disagreements with owner Prince Abdullah.
The Blades are 15 points off safety and already have one eye on next season in the Championship.
But United boss Wilder admitted it was difficult to plan because “conversations” about the future “are not happening.”
He said: “We always plan short, medium and long term.
“But that plan is determined by other people than me, by the way. I’ve not had those conversations.
“I know what direction I want to take the club in, where it should be, but it’s not happening.”

    REAL PLAN
Real Madrid could free up funds for a Kylian Mbappe swoop if they offload Gareth Bale to Tottenham.
The Welshman, 31, has finally found form in a Spurs shirt after his season-long loan deal.

Real Madrid could ship Gareth Bale permanently off to SpursCredit: Getty Images – Getty
SunSport earlier reported that Real are now ready to capitalise on that by shipping him off permanently.
And clearing Bale’s £650,000-a-week wages off their books would help them in their Mbappe quest.
Los Blancos are reportedly lining up a £135m swoop for PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe.
The Spanish giants hope it will persuade Tottenham to extend Bale’s stay for the final year of his contract next term.
And the good news for them is the North Londoners will look at taking him on loan again for next season if he continues to impress between now and the summer.

    HOST WITH THE MOST?
Gareth Southgate has warned that hosting the whole of Euro2020 would be no guarantee of success for the England team.
Boris Johnson revealed in The Sun today that he has offered up Britain’s stadiums to stage the entire tournament due to the uncertainty over European travel.
Speaking to talkSPORT, England boss Southgate said: “Obviously, we have our group matches at Wembley anyway and we are hugely looking forward to that.
“Hopefully we will keep progressing and have fans back but everything else is up in the air. At the moment, we are being told that the tournament is staying in its current format but if the tournament was in one country we will be well placed but as a team, hosting is not a great guarantee of success.
“Only France have hosted and won. You don’t win just because you are the the host. We have to play well and be prepared as well as we can possibly be.
“But it will be an exciting time. The beer is back on the day after the Czech Republic game. I am less for throwing it around rather than drinking it but if we can play a part in the country getting back its energy and enthusiasm for life, great.
“At certain moments of the season, no-one gives a monkey’s about international football but at the major tournaments, the whole family sits and watches them.”

    NO MO
Chelsea and Manchester City transfer target Mohamed Ihattaren is on his last chance at PSV Eindhoven due to ‘totally unacceptable’ behaviour.
Boss Roger Schmidt said: “It was totally unacceptable. It was impossible for me to include him in the group. Today he was able to see what is needed at his position.
“If he works as hard as Mario Gotze, Ryan Thomas, Mauro Junior, Cody Gakpo or Noni Madueke, things can work out. If not, it has no chance.
“It’s not a one-way street. Of course you have to support and help someone, but from the other side something also has to come back.
“Ultimately, it is always the same in life: you cannot change people, people can only change themselves.
“We tried to change him. It’s up to him now. It is also not always easy for young players. Hype quickly develops around them.
“Everyone is looking for these types of players. Everything is still possible, but we now have to change the style of aid.”

    RED ALERT
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has begged his former employers to ‘move heaven and earth’ to sign either Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappe.
The 42-year-old has urged Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to sign one of the two strikers as he stated the club cannot allow their Premier League rivals to nab them.

United should sign one of Mbappe or Haaland, according to FerdinandCredit: Getty Images – Getty
Borussia Dortmund marksman Haaland has been heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford, but United are understood to face competition from Chelsea and Manchester City.
Meanwhile Paris Saint-Germain star Mbappe is believed to be attracting interest from Liverpool and Real Madrid.
With Edinson Cavani set to become a free agent in the summer, Ferdinand has declared a striker must be brought in if United want to compete for the title.
Speaking on his FIVE YouTube channel, he said: “Cavani, yes, he’s a good stopgap but (we need) a centre-forward. If people like Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappe are available, you can’t allow them to go somewhere else and you need to move heaven and earth to get them here.
“United are used to having superstars and those boys would change the narrative at this football club, that’s how good they are.”

    COOKING UP A STORM
Ipswich Town have appointed former Wigan boss Paul Cook as the club’s new boss.

    FORWARD THINKING
West Ham are preparing to launch an offer to land Tammy Abraham after his brutal Chelsea snub, according to reports.
Boss Thomas Tuchel axed the striker in the 0-0 draw with Manchester United and the German said after ‘he is struggling with my decision.’
England star Abraham was also subbed in the last two Premier League matches.
The 23-year-old’s future at Stamford Bridge is now up in the air with just over two years left on his contract at Chelsea.
Several clubs in the top flight and across Europe are now closely monitoring his situation.
But the Star write how the Hammers are preparing to steal a march ahead of their rivals.
Boss David Moyes is desperate to land a new striker after Sebastien Haller’s January departure left them threadbare in attack.

    MAGPIES MISERY
Newcastle’s survival hopes suffered a huge blow after Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin were ruled out until April.
With top-scorer Callum Wilson also crocked, the Magpies – sat just three points above the drop – are now without their three best players.
And it leaves beleaguered boss Steve Bruce in a desperate position having won just two of their last 17 matches.
Almiron came off at half-time of Newcastle’s 1-1 draw against Wolves with a knee injury, while Saint-Maximin hobbled off in the second half with a groin problem.
The club said ‘both have undergone scans and will continue their rehabilitation with the club’s medical team’.
Bruce is now down to the bare bones up front, with Almiron, Saint-Maximin and Wilson responsible for 16 of their 27 league goals.

    FORWARD PLAN
With Manchester United still set to be without Edinson Cavani, here’s how the Red Devils could line up against Crystal Palace tomorrow.

    ART DEALER

    TOUGH LOVE
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has revealed the moment hot-headed Roy Keane lamped team-mate Chris Eagles in training.
Eagles, 35, joined the Red Devils academy in 2000 before being promoted to the first team three years later.

Chris Eagles and Roy KeaneCredit: News Group Newspapers Ltd
The winger managed 17 appearances in five years for the club and had four loan stints before joining Burnley permanently in 2008.
Speaking on the VIBE with FIVE podcast, the ex-defender said: “I remember when Roy Keane punched up Chris Eagles one time.
“He (Eagles) was only [a] young kid, (taking) liberties. It was good for him Eagles.
“Roy must have been coming back from an injury, or he didn’t play, and he was playing with the reserves and the youngsters that were in there like Eagles and Lee Martin were like rats, getting in close and trying to tackle.
“He went in late on Roy once or twice and Roy said to him, ‘Listen, slow down’. The ball comes in again, Eagles was trying to impress, trying to leave him mark and left a little bit on Roy again and pulled his jersey.
“Roy just turned round and went bang in the jaw. A quick short jab and I just stood there and went, ‘Roy, what’s wrong with you?’.”

    NIC OF THE BUNCH
Manchester United and Leeds are keeping tabs on Torino star defender Nicolas Nkoulou ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports.
Tuttosport reports United and the Whites are among a raft of clubs interested in signing Nkoulou, whose contract with the Serie A outfit expires at the end of the season.

The centre-back has made a total of 128 appearances for the Turin-based club ever since his move from Lyon in 2017.
The former Cameroon international is reportedly keen on moving to another club in the summer but his focus currently lies on saving Torino from relegation, with the club just two points away from the drop zone.
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is after an experienced defender that could partner up with Harry Maguire at centre-back.

    BIRTHDAY BOYS
March 2 a popular day to be born for former Spurs bosses!

    GET JACK BACK
Gareth Southgate has been boosted by the news that Jack Greaish could be set for a speedy return to first team action.
It was feared the Three Lions boss could be deprived of the Aston Villa ace for this month’s world cup triple header against San Marino, Albania and Poland.
However despite ruling him out of tomorrow’s visit to Sheffield United, Villa manager Dean Smith says Grealish is set to return to training this week and could even be set for a dramatic comeback in Saturday’s Midlands derby clash at home to Wolves.
The relieved Villa boss broke the news that every Villa fan, and many England supporters were hoping for, when he raised hopes that the injury is not as serious as initially reported.
“Jack will still be out for this game, because he’s still got pain with a certain movement he’s got,” said Smith ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Brammall Lane.
“But he could be training by the end of the week, I’m more hopeful on that.”

    CAN’T BAY-LIEVE IT
Omar Richards sealed a bombshell free transfer to Bayern Munich.
The Reading defender, 23, will swap Berkshire for Bavaria this summer, after agreeing to a shock four-year deal with the German champions.
The stunning transfer was hashed out between his entourage and Bayern on Monday afternoon, following three months of negotiations.
And he has already passed a medical in the UK, due to coronavirus travel restrictions.

    BANKING ON BALE
Gareth Bale’s long-awaited return to form is being celebrated as much in Spain as it is at Spurs.
The Welsh superstar rolled back the years as he helped Tottenham batter Burnley 4-0 on Sunday.
The Spanish giants hope it will persuade Tottenham to extend Bale’s stay for the final year of his contract next term.
And the good news for them is the North Londoners will look at taking him on loan again for next season if he continues to impress between now and the summer.
That will have Bernabeu bosses jumping for joy as they are desperate to get the £650,000-a-week Welshman, 31, off their wage bill.
So desperate, in fact, that they agreed to let him rejoin Spurs in a ridiculously cut-price deal that involved no loan fee and the Premier League club paying just £230,000 a week of his wages

    UP FOR THE CUP
Boris Johnson has offered up Britain’s stadiums for the whole European Championships as the UK’s vaccine roll-out surges ahead of the continent — and he can’t wait to raise a pint to the prospect.
The football tournament’s semi-finals and final are already pencilled in for Wembley in July but temporary teetotaller Mr Johnson said last night: “Any other matches they want hosted, we are certainly on for that!”
It could kick-start a “bonanza” decade of footy, with Chancellor Rishi Sunak set to pump millions into funding the UK and Ireland’s joint pitch to host the 2030 World Cup in tomorrow’s Budget.
In an exclusive interview with The Sun, the Prime Minister said: “We are very, very keen to bring football home in 2030. I do think it’s the right place.
“It’s the home of football, it’s the right time. It will be an absolutely wonderful thing for the country.”

    EVERTON 1 SOUTHAMPTON 0
Carlo Ancelotti has got Everton’s fans dreaming of both reaching Europe AND finishing above their neighbours.
And tonight, Ancelotti’s team finally proved that maybe, there is a chance this unlikely double could actually happen.
Everton need to sort out their terrible home form. And tonight, they did just that to end a run of three successive home Premier League losses and it was also their first victory in six matches at Goodison.

    LET IT SLIDE
Adama Traore’s baby oil technique IS to stop defenders pulling him back and avoid injuries, Nuno Espirito Santo confirmed.
He said: “It was not my idea, but I thought it was honestly a fantastic idea by the medical department because it came from the injury that he had with his shoulder.
“That was caused basically because of holding of his arm and creating this strong impact on his shoulder and he got injured from that.
“It’s hard to stop Adama, it’s very hard to stop him, and that avoids that situation.
“He becomes more slippery, so we get the advantage of his speed and talent.
“It was an option to avoid it, and from then on, he’s kept on doing it and it’s good.”

    LONE WOLF
Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo has provided an update on Raul Jimenez.

Nuno on Raul Jimenez: “Very positive for Jimenez. Starting to integrate in some parts of the training sessions. He is avoiding contact but soon he will integrate 100% hopefully. No time-frame. All based on his progression and protocols.”

    REAL PROBLEM
Mo Salah is too expensive for Real Madrid, former Blancos president Roman Calderon has asserted.
He told Egypt’s ONTime Sports: “[Salah] is a great player and a goalscorer.
“He helped Liverpool by giving his best, but I don’t think they will let him go.
“It is expected that, if they were to think about it, they would only let him go for a lot of money.
“Salah is wanted, of course, by Real Madrid. But Liverpool would ask for a lot of money and, if that deal were to be completed, it would be crucial.
“Salah is a great player with fantastic potential, and any club wishes to acquire such talents, but for Real Madrid I do not think they have the financial means to sign Salah.”

    HIT FOR SIX
Manchester United have not fared well against the rest of the ‘Big Six’ this season with the 0-0 draw at Chelsea the latest setback.

    MORE FROM CARRAGHER
And while accusations of ‘boring, boring Man United’ have been levelled at boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his team, pundit Jamie Carragher doesn’t think the Norwegian is to blame.
Asked if that’s the ‘big issue’, Carra said on Sky Sports MNF: “For me yeah – I wouldn’t describe Solskjaer as a defensive manager.
“I know those results look like that and maybe other managers we would… but this is a guy who’s played for Manchester United in those type of teams.
“I don’t recognise him as that kind of manager – right now I actually think it’s a quality issue.
“So when I talk about being on the front foot, it’s easier being on the front foot without the ball.
“It’s easy as a manager to organise that and say where you want to press and we’ve been critical of teams on this show where they drop deep, two banks of four and they can’t get out.

    FORWARD THINKING
Manchester United lack ‘quality’ upfront and ‘need a centre-forward more than anything’, according to Jamie Carragher.
He said on Sky Sports MNF: “I actually thought they were very brave, on the front foot, pressing man to man all over the pitch.
“But in that final third they just didn’t have that quality.
“You’ve said they’re the top scorers in the Premier League but have they got that player to score in the decisive games, that player that’s going to take them to the league title?
“And when I look at that, people talk about Manchester United, they need a right winger, they went for (Jadon) Sancho, they need a centre-forward more than anything.”

    TAM TIME UP
Chelsea are reportedly facing transfer interest in Tammy Abraham from a number of Premier League clubs.
The Telegraph claims doubts are emerging over the striker’s Stamford Bridge future after he was axed from Sunday’s matchday squad against Manchester United.

    TRUE BLUE
Fiorentina’s Tessel Middag admits she’ll always have a soft spot for Manchester City ahead of their Champions League tie on Wednesday.
Middag, 26, joined City full of optimism in 2016 but her time at the club was cut short due to a ten-month cruciate ligament injury.
Reflecting on her time at the Academy Stadium, she said on City’s website.: “My injury did affect what I could do on the pitch but from a human perspective, I’m happy with the connections I made there.
“I still have very warm feelings about Manchester as a whole and City as a Club.”

    SLICE OF LUC
Chelsea have received a boost in their pursuit of Lucas Gourna-Douath with St-Etienne reportedly prepared to accept £22million.
The centre-midfielder, 17, has been heavily linked with a move to the Blues and the Ligue 1 outfit may be forced into selling at the end of the season because of the financial impact of coronavirus.
The youngster is said to be keen on continuing his development with his boyhood club.
But St-Etienne face being forced to sell at the end of this season as part of a mass player cull, according to FootMercato.

    KEANE FOR IT
Sean Dyche reckons Roy Keane was right to say he could have played against Burnley on Sunday – because the Clarets were that bad at Tottenham.
He said: “Actually, he probably could have. I don’t know if you remember him as a player, but he was pretty decent!
“So to be fair to him, it wouldn’t surprise me if he could have played out there.
“Look, I’ve got no problem with him questioning us, and what we do.
“I’m used to it. It goes with the territory. It’s part of their job. They’re pundits for a reason. They have a voice, they have a say.
“I’ve never been precious about that sort of thing, because everyone has an opinion on football, not just the pundits.”

    LIN BUSINESS
Manchester United will demand more than £20million for Jesse Lingard this summer, according to reports.
The 28-year-old joined West Ham on loan in January, after falling out of favour at Old Trafford.
Lingard wasn’t picked for a single match in the Premier League or Champions League by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the first-half of this season.
But to West Ham’s surprise, the Red Devils weren’t interested in a permanent transfer in January.
According to Eurosport, the Hammers were hoping to include a £15m option to buy in the deal, in addition to the £1.5m loan fee.
But they claim that United turned their nose up at the offer, as club chiefs ‘knew’ that Lingard was capable of his current stunning form.

    MO PROBLEM
Mo Salah could be subjected to a fierce club v country row after being included in Egypt’s Tokyo Olympics prelim squad.
The Liverpool striker, 28, has been named as one of the country’s three overage players in Egypt’s under-23 side heading to Japan this summer.
The Games take place between July 23 and August 8, meaning Salah would miss the opening weeks of next season for the Reds.
Shawky Gharib, Egypt’s Olympic national team coach, said: “Salah is one of the best players in the world.
“And he is the first name in our squad which we sent to Fifa
“Our final choices must be from this squad, and Salah is the first name.
“We will start talking with Liverpool when Salah is here and after the next international duty.”

    NETHER YOU MIND
Exclusive by Tom Barclay: Nigeria are trying to persuade Bournemouth star Arnaut Danjuma to switch allegiances from the Netherlands.
Danjuma, 24, was born in Lagos to a Nigerian mother and Dutch father.
He moved to Holland aged four and eventually joined PSV’s academy.
The forward won two caps for the Oranje in 2018 against Germany in the Nations League and a friendly versus Belgium in which he scored.
A rule change was approved by Fifa in September meaning players can switch countries if they have played no more than three competitive games.
It would allow Danjuma to play for the Super Eagles despite his Nations League appearance.

    ALLI OR NOTHING
Peter Crouch wants Dele Alli to be given a second chance at Spurs.
The former England international wrote in his Mail column: “We aren’t privy to what is happening behind closed doors and we have to respect why Mourinho is making these calls. But I expect Dele would have been totally deflated at being on the bench against Burnley.
“Gareth Bale looked like the Gareth Bale we all know against Burnley. Harry Kane and Heung-min Son were on fire, too.
“If you add Dele into that equation, you have a front four who are as exciting as anything in the country. I hope he gets another chance.”

    WHAT THE DEL
Dele Alli ‘should not be left to rot’ at Spurs, according to Peter Crouch.
The former England international wrote in his Mail column: “I was at Tottenham last Wednesday and I thought Alli was super.
“He had a glint in his eyes, he looked hungry and a class above.
“Yes, he was playing opponents who were average but his quality shone through and it was a reminder of how good he can be. So I could understand why he would have been frustrated on Sunday.
“He hasn’t featured in nine of Tottenham’s Premier League squads this season and that is too much absence for a player of his class. He shouldn’t be left to rot, he shouldn’t have a career that is just drifting aimlessly.”

    NO JOSHING
Former Chelsea wonderkid Josh McEachran has sealed a move to MK Dons on his 28th birthday.
The midfielder had been training with the 14th-place League One club since leaving Birmingham in late January.

    GUARD UP
Manchester City can equal a club record for 28 matches unbeaten if they avoid defeat against Wolves at the Etihad on Tuesday.
They have won 20 of those matches on the spin – meaning they are closing in on the world record of 24, currently held by Brazilian side Coritiba.
But Pep Guardiola said this is no time for them to be sitting back and reflecting on the milestones they have passed.
He said: “We don’t have time. There are many games, every three days a game so we have to rest and think another one.
“When you win you are happy but the day after you have to think the next one. This is what we have to do.
“It is nice but it is next game. When it happens you think ‘ok another game another record’ but we are here to try and win the title. The people demand it.”

    COVID CASE DROP
Prem Covid testers recorded just two positive results for the second week running.
A single positive result was recorded from both the 1,355 tests taken between Monday and Thursday and the 1,378 between Thursday and Sunday.
It was the second successive week with just two positives and further proof of the success of the Premier League’s enhanced protocols.
The last time a clean bill of health was recorded was in the final week of last season.

    NOT BAYERN IT
Pep Guardiola insists his former club Bayern Munich are the best in the business right now – not Manchester City.
He said: “The best team in Europe and in the world are Bayern Munich because they won everything – they are the best,
“In England, the champions are Liverpool because they are the best. If you want to take the crown, you have to win.
“In March, nobody is champions. We have to do well and try to win but we cannot deny the last few months were exceptional in terms of results.”

    SPURRED ON
After a turbulent first year in North London following his club-record £65million transfer, there was talk Tanguy Ndombele may leave Tottenham last summer – something he now confirms was his desire.
He told Football London: “To be perfectly honest with you I don’t know how close I was to leaving.
“What I know is that I did want to leave. I spoke about this with people at the club and particularly with the chairman [Daniel Levy].
“The chairman said he didn’t want me to leave and definitely that’s something that really helped.
“The hardest moments are in the past and I’ve moved forward and things are much better for me and the team and it’s all behind us.
“I wouldn’t really say that I made errors, or particular errors – everybody has to take their own responsibility for what goes on in a season and there were things that went on at the club that people know about and things that went on at the club that people don’t know about.
“I’m able now to look back and see what were the aspects of my contribution that I needed to work on and what’s great now is that everything’s moving in the right direction for the team, for the club and for everyone and that’s really satisfying.
“Without a doubt it’s made me stronger mentally. What happened last season made me and improved me as an athlete.”

    PAUL EARS
Paul Pogba spoke to Tanguy Ndombele about their difficulties working under Jose Mourinho.
Spurs star Ndombele told Football London: “We spoke, we spoke about that but really quickly.
“It wasn’t like he gave me any advice because our situations were completely different.
“It’s true he worked with Mourinho but my own experiences weren’t the same and each relationship has its own characteristics.”

John Barnes has claimed that Anthony Martial should QUIT Manchester United.
He told BonusCodeBets: “Anthony Martial has never been a centre forward, despite Manchester United playing him there.
“If he can’t get a place in the starting team in his preferred wide position, following the emergence of Mason Greenwood, then maybe it is time for him to leave Manchester United.

The Welsh wizard rediscovered the supreme talent he showed during his first spell at Spurs with two goals in a 4-0 win over Burnley on Sunday.

And Bale celebrated by making a ‘W’ with his fingers while Son stood next to him depicting an ‘M’.
The celebration has now been confirmed as Bale’s way of recognising the work done by the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
And Bale also explained why a confused-looking Lucas Moura simply showed the cameras an ‘L’.
Speaking to Spurs TV, he said: “Because everyone is saying ours is Welsh Mafia, he’s decided to go with just Lucas!”
The ‘Welsh Mafia’ reference originates from something Bale and Spurs left-back Ben Davies came up with while on international duty.

    SAL OF THE CENTURY

    ZLAT’S ANNOYING
Zlatan Ibrahimovic will miss BOTH of AC Milan’s Europa League games against Manchester United with a groin injury.
The former Red Devil was hoping to play against his old side but will not be available for either leg of the last 16 tie after being ruled out for three weeks.
The teams meet first at Old Trafford on March 11 and the second leg is one week later at the San Siro on March 18.
But Milan boss Stefano Pioli will have to do without his star man for the next three weeks, according to EuroSport.
The Swede, 39, is in blistering form this season with 14 goals in 14 Serie A games.
His side are second in the league – just four points behind bitter rivals Inter who are top.

    GRIEZY MONEY
Manchester United could try and land Antoine Griezmann in a £50million deal if Jadon Sancho is too expensive, according to reports.
The 20-year-old Dortmund star would set the Red Devils back over £100m this summer.
And Spanish reports claim that Griezmann could be available for half that fee.
OK Diario say that Barcelona are looking to recoup about £50m for the 30-year-old having signed him for £104million two years ago.
That price might tempt Manchester United into a summer swoop as they look for more quality up front.
The World Cup winner has scored just 15 LaLiga goals for Barcelona in two seasons and the Catalans are facing a financial crisis.

    SPOT ON
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claims Manchester United are ‘not getting penalties after the noise being made about them’.
And the stats appear to back up the United boss after a drop in the amount awarded to his team.

The penalty count before and after Jurgen Klopp’s rant

    JOAO-CH
Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix shushed his own team-mate after ending his dry spell.
The youngster smashed home from 20 yards to seal a 2-0 win at Villarreal with his first goal since January.

Joao Felix produced a cheeky shush celebration to his own bench on Sunday night
According to Spanish radio station Cadena Cope, Felix had reacted to pre-match taunts from team-mate Renan Lodi.
The Brazilian defender, one of the Felix’s best friends at the club, is said to have teased him over a recent lack of goals – with only two in 2021 ahead of the game.

    WILL I NEVER
Willian has amazingly shot to joint-top for Arsenal’s assists this season despite being slammed by the majority of the club’s fans.
The Brazilian helped the Gunners to seal their most-impressive victory since their Boxing Day thumping of Chelsea with their 3-1 win at Leicester.

The top providers at the Gunners
Willian played his part in that by making two of the goals – which took him joint top of the assist charts for the North London side.
Despite only previously notching two assists on the opening day win over Fulham.

    TIM OUT
Former Manchester United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah has torn his ACL weeks after signing for Bayer Leverkusen.
The Dutch defender, 23, left Old Trafford for the Bundesliga in January but suffered the blow in yesterday’s 2-1 win over Freiburg.
Ex-team-mate Marcus Rashford showed his support for his pal online.

    QATAR ZEROES – EXCLUSIVE
Fifa is already flogging tickets for the Qatar World Cup Final for a whopping £42,270.
Organisers have released details of hospitality packages for high-rollers for the tournament shoot-out – and the seats don’t come cheap.
Fans signing up must buy a minimum of two tickets for a total of £42,270 for the game at the Lusail Stadium next year.
Supporters meet in a lounge in the ground and fans get a four-course meal, including soft drinks, mocktails, cocktails, Champagne, spirits, wines and beer.
The service is available before kick-off, during half-time and after matches.
The price tag also entitles buyers to seats at both semi-finals and the third-place game.
Fifa’s official partner firm MATCH Hospitality is flogging the packages and the world governing body has warned fans not to deal with third-party firms offering deals to the event.

    TAKE ZLAT
Zlatan Ibrahimovic was branded ‘dumb as hell’ by a former basketball player for his attack on LeBron James.
The Swedish striker told James that he shouldn’t get involved in politics – leading to a furious backlash from the basketball icon.
The LA Lakers superstar, 36, has been a leading voice against police brutality and racism over recent years.
However, the 39-year-old Ibrahimovic did not seem to be that impressed as he told the American to ‘do what he’s good at’ instead earlier this week.
And former NBA player Davis, 41, hit out at Ibrahimovic on Twitter before jokingly making reference to Adam Sandler’s comedy film ‘You Don’t Mess With The Zohan’.
He wrote: “Zlatan stay yo ass out of LA. Galaxy suck anyway. And you dumb as hell.
“Take that stolen Zoohan look and give it back to Sandler. Now let the King Speak!!!!”

    FINE ART
Mikel Arteta was pleased with his side’s 3-1 win over Leicester.

    NEW LOW
Germany manager Joachim Low has opened the door to Thomas Muller and Mats Hummels returning to the national team.
The pair were discarded after Low’s side were embarrassingly dumped out of the 2018 World Cup in the group stage.

Mats Hummels and Thomas Muller could get a second chance with GermanyCredit: Kenny Ramsay – The Sun Glasgow
But now it appears Low, who won the World Cup with Hummels and Muller in his team in 2014, is more receptive to the idea of them coming back into the fold.
Speaking to Kicker, he said: “Special circumstances can justify an interruption in the upheaval.
“That (the future of the trio) will be a difficult and important question, also for me.
“The character of Thomas Muller and Mats Hummels is that they don’t oppress others.”

    JI-Z LOUISE
Chinese football has been thrown into crisis after Super League champions Jiangsu FC ‘ceased operations’.
The club won its first title in November thanks to goals from former European football stars Eder and Alex Teixeira.
A buyer has unsuccessfully been sought by owners Suning, leading to the team being shut down.
A statement read: “Even though we are reluctant to part with the players who have won us the highest honours, and fans who have shared solidarity with the club, we have to regretfully make an announcement.
“From today, Jiangsu Football Club ceases the operation of its teams.
“In the past six months the club has been looking around to seek a takeover.”
Jiangsu’s squad includes ex-Atletico Madrid title winner Miranda and former Italy forward Eder, while one-time Liverpool target Teixeira is reportedly bound for Arabian football.

    TAD EXCESSIVE
Ajax star Dusan Tadic was struck by a coin after his side’s 1-1 draw at rivals PSV Eindhoven.
Tadic was boarding the team bus when PSV fans attacked him in shocking scenes outside the stadium.
The former Southampton man scored a 92nd-minute penalty to equalise and tempers flared after.
Some objects were thrown from the fans and a coin hit Tadic on the head before he got on the coach.
Tadic can be seen clutching his head as he walked in an ugly end to the rivals’ clash.

    MAN OF THE MOMENT
Real Madrid have joined Manchester City in a race to sign Sassuolo midfielder Manuel Locatelli.
The 23-year-old has impressed for the Serie A side so far this season as they currently occupy eighth place in the table.
And while Man City appeared to be the front-runners to sign the Italian at the end of the campaign, Calcio Mercato have now reported that Madrid are also keen to secure his signature.
At the end of the January transfer window, Sassuolo’s managing director Giovanni Carvenali commented on Man City’s interest in Locatelli.
He said: “Being on everyone’s lips is a good thing, it means that we are doing a positive job.
“These are all talks that we will have in the summer market.”
Pep Guardiola is said to be keen on Locatelli replacing Fernandinho at the end of the season as the Brazilian comes towards the end of his career.

    UNITED FRONT
Manchester United should have been given a penalty when Callum Hudson-Odoi handled in the box, WRITES EX-REF MARK HALSEY.
Under ‘Law 12 — handling the ball’, referee Stuart Attwell had to ask himself the following:

Callum Hudson-Odoi was not penalised for handballCredit: Getty – Pool
Was Hudson-Odoi’s arm in an unnatural position? My view is yes it was.Did he deliberately move his arm or hand towards the ball? Again, that’s a yes for me.
However, this was a subjective call and a really tough decision for Attwell in real time.
I didn’t think VAR needed to get involved as it wasn’t a clear and obvious error. In fact, at first I thought United’s Mason Greenwood had handled.
Once Attwell went to the monitor, I expected a penalty. And although United will be frustrated, I respect him for sticking to his decision.

    NOT VAR FETCHED
Manchester United are reportedly weighing up an £86million move for Raphael Varane.
The Real Madrid defender is out of contract in 2022 and has attracted the interest of United.

Manchester United will reportedly go in for Raphael Varane if he decides to leave Real Madrid
According to AS and Mundo Deportivo, Varane’s future at Real Madrid is uncertain.
The Spanish giants reportedly do not want to sell the defender but will consider it if he is keen to leave.
The 27-year-old has entered the final 18 months of his contract and this could spark a bidding war.
If the France star decides against agreeing a new deal at the Bernabeu it is likely Real Madrid will look to cash in on him.
Sergio Ramos is out of contract this summer and Real Madrid do not want to risk losing another defender on a free transfer.

    PER-FIK TACKLE
Chelsea loanee Fikayo Tomori pulled off an unreal tackle for AC Milan against Roma in Serie A.

    SCHOL-DED
Paul Scholes has criticised Thomas Tuchel for praising the ‘quality’ of Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Manchester United.
Neither the Blues nor Red Devils were able to break the deadlock in a drab Sunday evening stalemate.
Tuchel said afterwards: “It was a high quality game between two very strong teams.
“We suffered in the first-half but overall it was an even game. In the second-half I thought we were really strong.
“I thought we were closer to winning it, but there was a lot of quality on the pitch.
“Performance-wise I’m satisfied. We defended very well in the last line and I’m very happy with that.”
Scholes explained on Premier League Productions: “I actually think Tuchel was watching a different game on his iPad when he said it was a game ‘full of high quality’.”

    POLICE RAID
Catalan police have searched the offices of LaLiga giants Barcelona and arrested former president Josep Maria Bartomeu in a corruption investigation.
Last year, it was claimed that the club had paid a social media company to plant online criticism of key club figures in a scandal dubbed ‘Barcagate’.
Barcelona’s then-president Bartomeu denied the accusations last February.
On Monday, Cadena SER reported on police arresting Bartomeu in his home along with three other men.
Chief executive Oscar Grau, legal head Roman Gomez and Bartomeu’s former advisor Jaume Masferrer – fired in October for his role in the scandal – were also detained.
Police were earlier picture raiding the club offices, namely the legal, financial and compliance departments.

    BELL CURVE
Arsenal star Hector Bellerin reportedly ‘has an agreement in place’ to join Barcelona if Joan Laporta becomes the club’s new president.
Spaniard Bellerin, 25, is a graduate of Barca’s famous La Masia academy.

Hector Bellerin could quit the Gunners to return to Barcelona
The Daily Mirror claims Laporta has held talks and has an agreement with the Gunners defender’s representatives to try to negotiate a fee with Arsenal to bring him back.
Bellerin, who is also of interest to Paris Saint-Germain, arrived in North London as a 16-year-old and has gone on to play over 200 times for the first team.
He remains under contract until 2023, but today’s report states ‘he is open to rejoining his old club and returning to his home city’ in the summer.

    VAN DE LEAK
Donny van de Beek made an embarrassing gaffe during Manchester United’s draw at Chelsea after being caught short.
The Dutch midfielder was so desperate to take a leak he ended up using the LADIES toilets.
About 35 minutes into the second half, Van de Beek was spotted heading for the toilets.
But the former Ajax star appeared to misread the signs and wandered into the Ladies, according to the Mirror.
To the relief of everyone, the toilets were empty and Van de Beek was able to avoid the embarrassment of an unexpected encounter.

    NOT THE WAN
Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka is set to snub England as he considers representing the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The 23-year-old right-back has not yet been capped by Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate due to the wealth of options he has in the position.
And the fact that he is continually being overlooked is reportedly making him re-think his England future, according to The Athletic.
If Wan-Bissaka is not selected in Southgate’s side’s upcoming matches at the end of March, it is thought he will decide to represent Congo.
The former Crystal Palace man played for both England and Congo at youth level, but is yet to play senior international football.
He was picked by Southgate for England’s Euro 2020 qualifiers against Kosovo and Bulgaria in August, but pulled out of the squad due to a back injury.

    THAT’S ALL FOR TONIGHT
Liverpool come away with three valuable points which keeps them in the hunt for top four.
Next up for Jurgen Klopp’s men is fellow top four hopefuls, Chelsea.
And Thomas Tuchel’s men are playing rather well so it should be a very good game!
As for Sheffield, they’re rock bottom of the league and it looks like they have no way out.
    Goodnight!

    KLOPP’S THOUGHTS
Klopp shared his thoughts on his sides win: “The plan [at half-time] was to keep going, do the same stuff again, and Sheffield United, in the moments we played exactly like we wanted to play.
“They couldn’t deal with us, and we arrived pretty much alone in front of the goalie.
“But Ramsdale played an incredible game, made a few outstanding saves – when you know that Sheffield United lost a lot of games here.
“But all by the smallest margin you can get, it’s clear these games stay exciting until the end.
“First-half, we should have scored three times, I think.
“Then we scored the two goals, and I think Robbo [Andy Robertson] could have had a hat-trick tonight, pretty much.
“So that just shows how we created was really good, and the finishing was in the end good enough for today, but we know we can improve that still.”

    ROB’D OFF FIRMINO
FOR once, the champions enjoyed some fortune..
Although judging by what has happened over these wretched six months for the champions, it could be a one-match lucky streak.
But the Premier League table actually looks better for Liverpool – rather than worse – after a round of matches.
And it has been a good while before we have been able to say that.
The absence of keeper Alisson due to the tragic death of his father, and an injury to Jordan Henderson were merely the latest blows for Jurgen Klopp to deal with.

    CLASS ACT
Curtis Jones is talking to Sky after his star performance, and he’s dedicated his goal to Alisson’s father who sadly passed away three days ago.
Jones said: “I’d like to take this time to say that this goal is for Ali’s dad actually – may he rest in peace, and if Ali sees this, this is for you, bro.
“He’s a strong lad, a big part of the team, he’s not here today but we miss him for sure, and I’d like to dedicate my goal to him, his dad, and the rest of his family.”

    FULL-TIME STATS

Firmino grabbed Liverpool’s second, picking up the second ball on the edge of the penalty area and dancing into some space before sending a deflected effort past Ramsdale.
Sheffield gave it a good go, but it simply wasn’t good enough.
