Klopp rules himself out of Germany job, Mahrez to Real Madrid – Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal transfer news

JURGEN KLOPP has been told he is safe from a sacking following Liverpool’s atrocious run of form that has seen them slump to EIGHTH in the Premier League table.
The news comes as Joachim Low announces he will resign as Germany manager following the Euros.

Meanwhile Real Madrid are among the favourites to sign Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez and Manchester United are reportedly chasing Leeds ace Raphinha.

    LIGT EM UP
Manchester United are reportedly set to make a summer move for Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt.
The Red Devils were keen on signing the centre-back before his £67.5million move from Ajax in July 2019.
And according to reports, they’re set to renew their interest in the 21-year-old in the summer.
Spanish outlet Todofichajes claim the Old Trafford club have made signing the centre-half their ‘top priority’.
It’s said the United brass have opted to pursue De Ligt’s signature after deciding against moves for Real Madrid duo Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane.

    MAVI-NG OUT
Arsenal are reportedly considering a swoop for ex-Aston Villa flop Jordan Amavi to provide back-up for Kieran Tierney.
The 26-year-old left-back is set to become a free agent when his contract ends at Marseille in June.
The Ligue 1 side are hopeful they can convince the Frenchman to stay with a new three-year deal.
However, Le10Sport claims the Gunners and AC Milan are battling it out to sign him on a free transfer.

    TUCHING DISTANCE
Thomas Tuchel is wasting no time in proving his credentials as he closes in on a Premier League record.
The German gaffer has inspired his side to six wins and three draws including victories away at Liverpool and Tottenham.
But his league run could be unrivalled should his side avoid defeat in their next four matches.
Only ex-Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri and former Nottingham Forest gaffer Frank Clark began their Prem managerial careers with longer unbeaten runs.
Another ex-Chelsea boss Felipe Scolari went eight games unbeaten in 2009 as he won six and drew two.

    JU OFF THEN?
Juventus could be forced into transfer listing Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala as the coronavirus crisis cripples the club, according to reports.
But the Italian champions will refuse to sell Matthijs de Ligt this summer.
According to calciomercato.com via Football Italia, the Old Lady need to salvage some funds when the transfer market reopens.
The club reportedly posted losses of £97.5million earlier this season.
And they are therefore bracing themselves to lose some of their biggest names.
That could see Ronaldo, under contract at the Allianz Stadium until 2022, allowed to leave a year early from his £540,000-a-week deal.

    FREE AND EASY
Barcelona are targeting Sergio Aguero, David Alaba and Eric Garcia, according to reports.
New club president Joan Laporta has already held discussions with Ronald Koeman, with Mundo reporting that they are plotting a trio of high-profile free transfers in the summer.
Aguero, Alaba and Garcia all appeal to the club as top calibre players coming to the end of their contracts.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Garcia has already penned a five-year deal ahead of a summer switch.
But Barcelona will face a battle to acquire Alaba and Aguero, with both set to require high salaries – and PSG reportedly willing to hand the former an eye-watering £400,000-a-week.

    AND ANOTHER ONE
Juventus will give Andrea Pirlo at least another season in the dugout, even if Porto knock the Italian giants out of the Champions League tonight.
The former midfielder faces a huge fight to qualify for the quarter-finals, facing a 2-1 deficit after the first leg in Portugal.
But La Repubblica report on Pirlo being given time to turn things around, with the job his first in senior management.

    JURG ON
Jurgen Klopp has ruled out replacing Joachim Low as Germany boss – insisting he will remain at Liverpool for years to come.
Low announced he will quit Germany this summer, ending his 15-year reign, which included a 2014 World Cup win.
Klopp said: “Am I available for the coach of the German national team in the summer? No.
“Joachim Low did an incredible job. I’m sure the German FA will find a good solution.
“I have three years left at LFC don’t I? It’s simple. You sign a contract and you stick to that contract. I stuck to contracts at Mainz and Dortmund.”

    TAKING IT TO THE MASSES
Sian Massey-Ellis has brushed off suggestions that women are ‘out of their depth in the world of football’.
And the Premier League assistant ref opened up on fears of her career on the pitch ending early after giving birth to her first child.
Her reflections come months after a Women in Football survey found that 66 per cent of women working in the sport experienced sexism, but only 12 per cent of incidents were reported.
Massey-Ellis, 35, said: “The challenge of the perception that we don’t know what we’re doing – it’s always been there.
“It’s always been, ‘Women don’t know the offside rule. Women don’t know what football’s about so they shouldn’t be involved’.
“That’s the stereotype I would want to challenge -that we are good enough to be there and if we’re there, we’re not there as a tick-box.”

    WSL DEAL
Sky Sports are set to become the Women’s Super League’s primary broadcaster, according to reports.
The Mail report on a deal for the network to take over BT Sport’s deal with the league and become the first to pay a fee for the rights.
The BBC are also said to be part of the deal, taking second picks of weekend games and regularly showing them on terrestrial TV for the first time.

    SCREAM ON
Footballers can now be booked for screaming, lawmakers IFAB have revealed.
Arsenal star Alexandre Lacazette was roundly mocked at the weekend during his side’s clash with Burnley, after yelling following a Clarets challenge.
Fuming Sean Dyche remarked that the Gunners scored high on the ‘scream-o-meter’ during the 1-1 draw.
And the Frenchman was even ridiculed on Match of the Day, as Gary Lineker, Ian Wright and Dion Dublin finished the show by falling off their chairs.
In a bid to curb this embarrassing behaviour, IFAB have given referees more power.
Not only will officials be able to book players for diving, but it will also be in their power to award yellow cards for theatrical screams – if they feel footballers are being disingenuous.

    GETTING SHIRTY
Arsenal’s pre-match training shirts for next season have been leaked online and fans are less than impressed.
The controversial adidas design features pink, black and grey camouflage patterns.
Arsenal players will reportedly wear the shirt while warming up before Premier League matches.
The design is a similar look to the current shirt which features a mix of red and black patterns.
Footy Headlines leaked the images and shared them online for supporters to marvel at.
One supporter quipped: “The camo is so good that even the ball can’t find Willian.”

    NOBLE EXIT
Mark Noble has signed a new one year deal with West Ham but has also announced next season will be his last at the club.
The Hammers’ long-serving skipper confirmed SunSport’s exclusive story that he is staying on for the next 12 months to help shepherd in a new era at the club.
Noble has written a 1200-word open letter to the supporters in which he insists he still has ‘a lot to offer on the pitch’ and off it by helping the ‘new signings and young players understand the ethos of West Ham United.’
    Read the full statement here.

    LEND US A SAND
Dion Sanderson has impressed on loan at Sunderland this season and could be about to leave parent club Wolves.
According to the Mail, Brighton and Crystal Palace like the young defender, although Wolves also highly rate him.
After scoring his first senior goal on the weekend, Sanderson said: “For the time being I’m just enjoying my football really – taking it game by game, winning and enjoying it.”

    ZLAT’LL DO
La Gazzetta dello Sport claim AC Milan are within reach of a new contract for Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The main sticking point is wages, with the Serie A side hoping to cut the veteran’s £115,000 weekly salary.
Ibrahimovic has smashed 16 goals in 21 games for Milan, who sit second in the Italian top-flight.

    JOR THE ONE
New Barcelona club president Joan Laporta is set to hire Jordi Cruyff has his sporting director.
Marca report on the incoming approach, which will be made when the Blaugrana chief takes office in the next few days.
Cruyff is the son of club legend Johan Cruyff and currently coach of Chinese side Shenzhen FC.

    ‘SHUT HIS MOUTH’
Kevin Phillips has hit out at the agent of Illan Meslier, who talked openly about the prospect of the Leeds goalkeeper leaving Elland Road.
The young goalkeeper has been linked to Real Madrid and Xavier Fleury said on LUFC Fan Zone podcast: “Perhaps in one, two seasons, if you have a club like Real Madrid that knock on the door – who knows?”
But ex-striker Phillips told Football Insider: “It is funny how his agent is saying things and not the player himself.
“I wouldn’t take a blind bit of notice. His agent is trying to stir things up. If I am Bielsa I would be fuming. I would be telling Meslier to tell his agent to shut his mouth.
“The kid looks very happy at Leeds and it looks like Leeds are moving in the right direction. They are getting linked with top players. It is exciting times, so why would you want to leave? I’d be fuming if I was Bielsa.”

    EXCLUSIVE
Mitchell Curry is swapping Sunderland for America to join David Beckham’s Inter Miami, writes Gary Stonehouse.
The 21-year-old striker is out of contract at the Stadium of Light in June but has sealed an early exit to head to the MLS.
Curry, who only moved to Sunderland from local rivals Middlesbrough in September, has appeared just once for Black Cats in League One this term.
Now he is heading for an exciting new life and to continue his progress under the tutelage of Beckham and new Inter boss Phil Neville.
Reports emerged last night through The Roker Report that the young forward had held talks via Zoom and had agreed to join Beckham’s team.
Now SunSport can exclusively reveal that Curry will initially link-up with Inter’s B team Fort Lauderdale CF.

    KA-PAU
Pau Torres has emerged as a target for Manchester United.
The Spanish defender, currently starring for Villarreal, is reportedly catching the eye of the Red Devils and Manchester City.
MEN detail United’s interest in Torres as a left-footed centre-back partner for Harry Maguire.
That position is thought to be key to the club’s summer transfer strategy, with Raphael Varane also linked.
Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are named as two other potential destinations for the player.

    EXCLUSIVE
Sunderland fans have raised over £115,000 for local charities by purchasing virtual tickets ahead of the club’s date with Wembley, writes Richard Forrester.
With supporters unable to attend their EFL Trophy final against Tranmere on Sunday, thousands have united to raise vital cash to help the vulnerable hit hardest by the coronavirus.
Lifelong fan Peter Richardson kick-started the fundraiser on the club’s messageboard before teaming up with Sunderland’s official charity partner, The Foundation of Light.
An initiative was then put into place to divide the money raised between the Foundation of Light, Salvation Army, Sunderland Foodbank and Washington Mind.
Sophie Ashcroft, who is Head of Marketing & Communications at the Foundation of Light, told SunSport: “It’s a brilliant idea, it’s making the best out of a bad situation and is injecting really critical cash for ourselves and other charities.
“The money is vital. It will help us support hundreds and hundreds of people across the region and really provide crucial services to support some of the most vulnerable people in the community.”

    BOCA BULK
Edinson Cavani is increasingly unlikely to move to Boca Juniors in the summer, according to reports.
It had been claimed that the striker was eyeing a three-year deal with the Argentine giants.
But TyCSports state that living in the country is not high on Cavani’s agenda.
SunSport revealed last night that the veteran attacker is hoping to remain at Manchester United but is growing impatient in waiting for a new contract offer.

    JUR THE ONE?
Ladbrokes have made Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp the second favourite to replace Joachim Low in the summer.
A disastrous title defence has led to questions of the German’s position, although he has remained adamant that he wants to stay at Anfield.
Germany Under-21 boss Stefan Kuntz is the bookie’s frontrunner.
    Next Germany Manager Odds:
    Stefan Kuntz – 11/4
    Jurgen Klopp – 3/1
    Arsene Wenger – 8/1
    Julian Nagelsmann – 12/1
    Jurgen Klinsmann – 12/1
    Jupp Heynckes – 12/1

    YOU’RE JOACH-ING
As we told you earlier, Joachim Low will quit as Germany boss after the Euros.
DFB president Fritz Keller has paid tribute to the World Cup winner’s time in the role and stated that no plans have been made for his successor.
He said: “I have great respect for Joachim Löw’s decision.
“The DFB knows what he has in Jogi, he is one of the greatest coaches in world football. Jogi Löw has had German football like no other for years.
“Not only because of his sporting achievements, but also because of his empathy and humanity. The fact that he informed us about his decision at an early stage is very decent.
“He gives us the necessary time, calmly and a sense of proportion to name his successor.”

    COSTA FORTUNE
Benfica have made their move to land free agent Diego Costa by offering him a £2.6million bonus, according to reports.
The hot-headed striker has been without a club since having his deal with Atletico Madrid terminated in December.
Costa, 32, had been heavily linked with a move back to Brazil with both Palmeiras and Sao Paulo.
He was also touted for a lucrative deal to play in Saudi Arabia while being rumoured for a switch back to the Premier League with Wolves and West Ham.
Now Goal write how Costa’s future could be resolved with the Portuguese giants. They add how Benfica will entice him with a two-year, £50,000-a-week contract starting at the beginning of next season.
A £2.6m transfer bonus is also on the table and it appears Costa is looking increasingly likely to put pen-to-paper.

    SERG OF INTEREST
Barcelona are the favoured destination for Sergio Aguero next season, according to reports.
The Manchester City forward has endured a quiet season in England and his contract expires in the summer.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the player is keen to discuss a switch to the Camp Nou.
Aguero’s agent is already said to have made contact with new club president Joan Laporta to gauge a deal.

    NEY WAY
Neymar has been ruled out of Paris Saint-Germain’s game with Barcelona.
The Brazilian was always on a tight schedule to make the last-16 second leg on Wednesday having suffered a groin injury a month ago.
According to Goal, he will focus on his recovery for the coming days rather than be risked.

Bailly, who was not even on the United bench for the Etihad triumph, is also a disgruntled figure at United.
And the Ivory Coast defender, 26, had told team-mates how he does not believe he is getting equal treatment from the Old Trafford boss.
A dressing room source told SunSport: “Eric doesn’t feel he has any trust from Ole and he thinks that’s unfair.
“He wants the coach to have confidence in him and back him up but he feels he isn’t being protected at all and that hurts.”

    OLE GUNNAR SULK-STARS – EXCLUSIVE
SunSport can exclusively reveal Edinson Cavani and Eric Bailly are demanding answers from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with their Manchester United futures in doubt.
Uruguay striker Cavani, 34, is keen to stay at Old Trafford next season but has not received any assurances from the Red Devils hierarchy. While frustrated centre-back Bailly wants ‘honesty’ from boss Solskjaer over his first-team status.
United, second in the Premier League after Sunday’s 2-0 derby triumph over leaders City, are looking to bring in a new striker and defender this summer.
Cavani, who is considering a return to South America with Boca Juniors in Argentina, wants to know how a new frontman would impact on his role at the Theatre of Dreams.
The striker joined United in October as a free agent after leaving Paris Saint-Germain on a deal until the end of the season. His £9million-a-year contract has a one-year option with both parties able to trigger the extension.
That means Cavani, who has scored seven goals this season, could walk away if he wishes. United are expected to open talks with Cavani but he has grown frustrated that it has taken Boca’s interest of a £3million-a-year offer to begin discussions…

David Moyes’ men are just two points behind fourth place Chelsea with a game in hand over the Blues.

    HAM ARMY
Marek Hamsik was mobbed by excited fans on Monday as his move to Swedish side IFK Goteborg was officially confirmed.
The Slovakia legend, 33, was a free agent after quitting Chinese outfit Dalian Pro last week.
And SunSport reported that veteran playmaker Hamsik was on the verge of securing a move to Goteborg.
The surprise deal was given the green light on Monday.
And fans flocked to greet Hamsik at Goteborg Landvetter Airport in Gothenburg to give him a welcome he’ll never forget.
Hamsik has penned a contract until August 30, 2021, and will continue to wear his iconic No17 shirt.

    JUR JOB’S SAFE
Liverpool’s owners Fenway Sports Group reportedly still have full support in Jurgen Klopp despite the club’s shocking form.
The Premier League champions lost 1-0 to Fulham on Sunday in what was their sixth consecutive home defeat at Anfield.
The Reds sit eighth in the table – seven points behind fourth-placed Chelsea – and are in real danger of missing out on Champions League qualification.
But according to the Daily Mail, Klopp retains the backing of FSG who still want him to lead their team.
They state that Klopp‘s relationship with FSG’s president Mike Gordon remains strong.
And it has even been suggested that FSG believe Liverpool are in a strong enough position to deal with the financial implications of missing out on the Champions League.

    ED-ING OUT
Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani reportedly has his heart set on a dream move to Boca Juniors in the summer.
The 34-year-old is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, though the Red Devils have the option of triggering a one-year extension.
But it is understood that both parties have the option of pulling the plug at the end of the campaign. And according to Argentine news outlet Ole, the Uruguay international has decided to depart Old Trafford in order to return to South America.
They state that the ex-Paris Saint-Germain star has dreamed of playing for Boca since a young child. It has also been claimed that Cavani’s representatives do not believe his possible contract extension will be an issue as he can turn it down.
The report also adds that Cavani would be happy to take a huge pay cut on his £210,000-a-week salary in order to join his boyhood club.
And the former Napoli ace will demand a three-year deal in Argentina as he looks to fire the side to a first Copa Libertadores title since 2007.

    RANGER DANGER
Steven Gerrard is NOT ready for the Liverpool job despite ending Rangers’ title hoodoo on Sunday.
That’s according to Anfield legend Mark Lawrenson, who believes hiring Gerrard would be a huge gamble should Jurgen Klopp depart this summer.
Old team-mate Dirk Kuyt has already expressed his desire to work alongside Gerrard at their former stomping ground.
But former Red Lawrenson reckons the job would come too early for Gerrard if he is offered it this summer.
He told BBC Sport: “There has always been the issue of whether Steven will manage Liverpool or not. Due to Liverpool’s poor season, everyone is saying ‘Steven will be next, Steven will be next’, so that shout has grown louder.
“What I would say is that, for all the success at Rangers, managing Liverpool is on a different spectrum. It would be a massive step. It would be a big gamble for the club’s owners – Fenway Sports Group – to appoint him.”

    FIRE SALE
Euro chiefs could BAN transfers between the biggest clubs – to try to level up football.
The unlikely idea was suggested by Juventus President Andrea Agnelli, head of the European Club Association.
Agnelli revealed talks had opened that could see curbs put on clubs trading with each other from 2024.
He said: “This is a fertile moment to think of new and greater solutions. We could think of a double path for the transfer system whereby clubs qualifying for European competitions enter into specific tiers.
“If that happened, they wouldn’t be allowed to buy each other’s players so that would improve the indirect solidarity towards the other clubs.
“There would be no triple figure transfers between Champions League clubs for players and we would be focusing on buying players from other countries and clubs. These are elements we are discussing.”

    KICK-OFF!
    West Ham 0 – 0 Leeds
The teams are underway at London Stadium with the Hammers looking to continue their European charge and go fifth and the visitors aiming to go level on points with Arsenal in 10th.

    HEADS UP
Eric Bailly teased Manchester United captain Harry Maguire over his ‘big head’, leaving team-mates in stitches after their win over City.
An early penalty from Bruno Fernandes and second-half strike from Luke Shaw helped United end their neighbours’ long winning run, and close the gap in the Premier League title race.
Maguire, 28, led the celebrations on Instagram, but was brought back down to Earth by a hilarious comment from his centre-back partner.
Bailly, 26, wrote: “Top performance captain you have a big head!!!!”
Maguire, joining in with the banter, responded: “Thanks Eric. Really? I thought my head was small.”
Scott McTominay, 24, also found the funny side of it, posting laughing emojis.

Jordan Pickford brought down Kai Havertz in the box and it was a clear penalty.
And the Italian stroked it into the bottom left corner with his trademark hop, skip and jump technique.

    TEVEZ TRIBUTE
Carlos Tevez marked his return to Boca Juniors with a goal in his first game back since the death of his father.
The 37-year-old scored his side’s fifth in the 7-1 victory against Velez Sarsfield to make it two wins out of four for Boca in the Argentine Primera Division.
Prior to the win against Velez, the ex-Manchester United striker hadn’t played since his adopted dad Segundo Raimundo died due to complications from Covid-19 on February 21.
Tevez stated before his father’s death that he had ‘no chance’ of surviving in an emotional interview.
And the former West Ham and Manchester City marksman paid respect to Segundo after volleying home in the rout.
Running to cameras, news outlet Ole claims Tevez shouted, “It’s for you, old man,” after he scored in the 62nd minute.

    WHAT THE KELL
BBC Sport presenter Kelly Somers was told to ‘stick to women’s football’ by an Instagram troll who has a daughter of his own.
Somers detailed the abuse online and also revealed the dad suggested her and other female colleagues should ‘get off Final Score’.
Talented reporter Somers used her experience to shine a light on the problem on International Women’s Day (IWD).
She tweeted to her 30,000 followers: “On Saturday I got a message from a man on Instagram, telling me myself & other females should get off Final Score & stick to women’s football.
“I searched the man, he has a daughter. Does he send her the same message? That she can only do certain jobs?”
The post received more than 1,000 likes and fortunately fans rushed to support Somers and condemn the dad.

Georgina Rodriguez has showed off her stunning view of Monaco from her yacht as her partner Cristiano Ronaldo was benched by Juventus.
The Spanish model uploaded a number of pictures on social media to her 24 million Instagram followers while on the Mediterranean Sea.
Captioning the images, she said: “They told me about it and I forgot it, I saw it and I understood it. I did it and I learned it.”
And the 27-year-old then posted a snap of her legs wrapped in bandages on her Instagram story.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the strange treatment is believed to be a beauty therapy.
Though it is unclear exactly what the bandages are doing, and what the benefits are of using them.

    GOOOOOOOALLLL – HAVERTZ!

Hudson-Odoi feeds Alonso down the left channel, the Spaniard drives a fierce ball in and Havertz diverts it in off Ben Godfrey with his right foot from eight yards out.
Could be given as an own-goal but either way, the Blues are 1-0 up.

    STILL 0-0!

    YOUTH GOT IT
A new study has named Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka as top of their class following a fantastic breakout into senior football.
The England pair are establishing themselves as household names and could play a big role at the upcoming Euros.
Key to any young player’s progression is game time at an elite level and an analysis of hot prospects has revealed the pair to be head and shoulders above their contemporaries.
Renowned football research group CIES Observatory created a formula to rank starlets born after the millennium, weighing their game time in domestic action against the quality of the team they play for.
The players were then divided into four groups, based on the year of their birth. Coming out on top in the class of 2000 was Borussia Dortmund star Sancho, who has racked up almost 100 Bundesliga appearances.
Erling Haaland was ranked third in this group with Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies separating the Dortmund team-mates on the podium.

    SONSATIONAL
Harry Kane and Son Heung-min became the Premier League’s deadliest duo ever as Tottenham thrashed Crystal Palace 4-1 on Sunday.
The pair linked up for their record 14th goal combination in a single season – surpassing the 13 set by Chris Sutton and Alan Shearer in 1994-95.
Kane set up Gareth Bale twice for Tottenham’s first two goals before his fine effort from distance in the 52nd minute. But it was his second – and Tottenham’s fourth – a tap in from close range after Son cushioned a ball into his path on the edge of the six-yard box that saw them top the deadly duo table.
Shearer and Sutton’s goals came for Blackburn in their title winning campaign. And behind them in third are Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser who combined for 12 goals in the 2018-19 season at Bournemouth.
Les Ferdinand and Kevin Gallen are fourth – striking up a lethal understanding for QPR in 94-95. Shearer actually features twice, also occupying fifth spot alongside Mike Newell – also for Blackburn – in 95-96.
The remainder of the list is made up of attacking pairs who combined for ten goals for three different teams. Robbie Fowler and Stan Collymore for Liverpool, Dennis Bergkamp and Nicolas Anelka for Arsenal and Adama Traore and Raul Jimenez for Wolves.

    THAT’S ALL FROM THE BRIDGE
It’s advantage Chelsea in the race to qualify for the Champions League.
The Blues beat top-four rivals Everton comfortably at Stamford Bridge this evening to open up a four-point gap on the Toffees, and consolidate their position in fourth-place.
In the process, they also extended their unbeaten run since Thomas Tuchel’s arrival to 11 games, and recorded yet another clean sheet; Chelsea have conceded just twice in that period, neither of which came on home soil.
The Toffees never got going in the capital, but have the chance to immediately return to winning ways at the weekend when hosting struggling Burnley. Next up for Chelsea is a visit to Leeds.
    Thanks for reading, and goodnight.

    CAPTAIN’S LOG
Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta was full of praise for his Chelsea teammates following another win and clean sheet, but insisted they must keep working if they are to achieve anything this season and beyond.

Every victory is a step forward. Tonight was a very good performance. It was very pleasing to see the team fighting without the ball, and I think we could have scored even more goals. We are still far from where we want to be, but we’re on the right path. We have to keep working because we haven’t done anything yet.

Impressive in the number ten role and modest too.
Kai Havertz was Chelsea’s standout performer this evening, but immediately took to social media after the game to praise the entire team’s display.

Hot off the press at Stamford Bridge, here’s Paul Jiggins with the match report of Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Everton.

    MARCOS BACK IN THE MIX
Frozen out under Frank Lampard, Marcos Alonso is getting game time under Thomas Tuchel and proving himself to be fierce competition with Ben Chilwell for the left wing-back spot.
If he continues in this vein, he may again become the darling for FPL players.

TUCHEL CLEANING UP AT THE BRIDGE
With a clean sheet this evening, Thomas Tuchel has set a new Premier League record, and he’s only been here two months.
His Chelsea side have kept clean sheets in each of his five home games in charge, keeping out Wolves, Burnley, Manchester United, Newcastle, and now Everton.

    FULL TIME STATS
Almost double the possession and passes, and more than three times as many attempts, Chelsea were well worth their victory at Stamford Bridge.

    FT: CHELSEA 2-0 EVERTON
Chelsea move four points clear of Everton in the battle for the top four after defeating their opponents at Stamford Bridge. Kai Havertz was the star on his return to the team, forcing Ben Godfrey into an own-goal in the first half before winning a penalty in the second that Jorginho converted.

PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!IT’S ALL OVER AT STAMFORD BRIDGE!

    CHELSEA 2-0 EVERTON
90+4. Mount stings Pickford’s hands with a 20-yard blaster. It’s another good stop from the Everton number one.
The Chelsea substitutes have fancied their chances of adding to the scoreline since coming on.

    CHELSEA 2-0 EVERTON
90+2. Five foot six, N’Golo Kante is just wide with a looping header.
Werner would have been best to pack up and go home if that had gone in.

    CHELSEA 2-0 EVERTON
    90. Tom Davies picks up a yellow for a double swipe at Christensen and Alonso.
Meanwhile, Havertz’s reluctance has paid off. Werner has gone off instead.
The fourth official signals four minutes of added time.

    CHELSEA 2-0 EVERTON
    89. Pulisic waits patiently on the sidelines, ready to replace Havertz but the German is making it clear that he doesn’t want to come off.
Who does he think he is? Kepa?

    CHELSEA 2-0 EVERTON
    88. Davies backheels in the path of Bernard, who skies a shot into the stand.
This contest hasn’t been a masterclass in finishing.

    CHELSEA 2-0 EVERTON
    85. Werner! One-on-one! He shoots straight at Pickford! It’s a good save in fairness, but the German striker cannot buy a goal at the moment.
Kante misses on the follow up too, his shot deflected away from goal.

    CHELSEA 2-0 EVERTON
    83. Richarlison sends Azpilicueta halfway down the Fulham Road with a lovely turn on halfway. It’s probably the Brazilian’s most productive moment tonight; it looked good but counts for absolutely nothing.

    CHELSEA 2-0 EVERTON
    80. Past Keane and through on goal, Werner should put this game to bed but shoots straight at Pickford. He did everything right until the finish, and it kinda sums up his season.
    N’Golo Kante replaces Mateo Kovacic.

    CHELSEA 2-0 EVERTON
    78. I was in the process of writing that Chelsea are playing keep ball but in that very moment, Kovacic gave possession straight to Tom Davies.
Davies, by the way, was Everton’s first change this evening, on earlier for Alex Iwobi.

    CHELSEA 2-0 EVERTON
    75. Another Everton corner has Mendy in a flap but the whistle goes for. a foul on the Chelsea keeper.
Meanwhile, the visitors make their final change with Bernard on for Andre Gomes.

    CHELSEA 2-0 EVERTON
    73. Everton send their big men up for a corner, but the home side win the first, second and third headers to clear the danger.
They really want another clean sheet.

    CHELSEA 2-0 EVERTON
    70. Thankfully, Zouma is back on his feet and attempting to run off any problems on the the touchline. He’s looking to come back on.
Meanwhile, Josh King has replaced Gylfi Sigurdsson in the Everton ranks.

    CHELSEA 2-0 EVERTON
    68. Worrying signs for the Blues as Zouma hits the deck after playing a pass with nobody in his vicinity.
The French defender has had his problems with injury, and there is clear concern from him teammates.

    CHELSEA 2-0 EVERTON
    66. Chelsea make a change with Mason Mount introduced in place of Callum Hudson-Odoi.

    CHELSEA 2-0 EVERTON
    65. Jorginho makes no mistake from the spot, and Chelsea double their lead!
The Brazilian has missed a couple of spotkicks this campaign, but shows no signs of nerves as he puffs out his chest, skips on his run up, and sends Jordan Pickford the wrong way.
There’s no redemption for the Everton goalkeeper, who conceded the penalty by rushing off his line and bringing down Kai Havertz after the German had skipped beyond him.
Involved in both goals, Havertz has impressed on his recall tonight.

Hector Bellerin’s return to Barcelona has moved a step closer following Joan Laporta’s presidential win, according to reports.
Laporta was elected at the helm of the Catalan giants after taking the majority vote during Sunday’s election.
The 58-year-old is back for his second spell as president following his seven-year reign from 2003.
Barcelona have been frequently linked with a move to bring Bellerin back to the Nou Camp over recent years.
And last week it was reported how Laporta had an agreement with the Gunners defender’s representatives to try to negotiate a fee with Arsenal to bring him back if he was handed the presidency.
Spaniard Bellerin, 25, is a graduate of Barca’s famous La Masia academy before switching to north London in 2011.
He remains under contract until 2023 but reports claim ‘he is open to rejoining his old club and returning to his home city’ in the summer.

    FOSTER THE PEOPLE
Diego Costa was slammed as a ‘filthy rat’ by former Manchester United keeper Ben Foster.
The Watford No1 blasted the ex-Chelsea man’s dirty tactics on his YouTube channel The Cycling GK.
When asked who he disliked playing against most, Foster said: “It’s a good question and it’s Diego Costa because he was just a filthy little rat.
“He would just snarl and scratch and he wouldn’t leave you alone and he wouldn’t give you a second’s breath.
“And do you know what, Luis Suarez was a bit like that as well. He was horrible to play against, he would kick you, he would scratch, he would do anything.”

    MODEL CITIZENS
Here’s how Prem champs elect Manchester City could line up next season after a summer splurge on players.

    COM-AN GET ME
Manchester United are on red alert after transfer target Kingsley Coman reportedly rejected Bayern Munich’s first offer of a contract extension.
The 24-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford last summer and the Red Devils are still believed to be keen.

Kingsley Coman could quit Bayern Munich after reportedly rejecting their first offerCredit: AFP
The French winger’s current deal at the Allianz Arena runs until 2023 but he apparently is looking for a big increase on his current £140,000-a-week terms.
However, Kicker claims the star has snubbed their first proposal to get him to stay.
That comes after reports stated United had put together a package to tempt him away from the Bundesliga and were looking to make him one of their big buys this summer.

    HEAD HEN-CHO
Thierry Henry admits he dreams of becoming Arsenal manager one day.
Gunners legend Henry has made a less-than impressive start to his career in the dugout having struggled at Monaco and leaving his job in Montreal to be closer to his family.
But the Frenchman still has eyes of one taking taking charge of the club where he is the all-time leading scorer and has a statue of him as a player outside their stadium.
Speaking to FourFourTwo, 43-year-old Henry said: “Listen, if you ask an Arsenal fan if they’d like to coach Arsenal one day, they’ll say yes.
“If you ask an Arsenal fan if they’d like to score a goal for Arsenal, they’ll say yes. When I speak about it, it’s a utopia.
“People get carried away whenever I say that it’s my club, but I have it in my blood – I’m an Arsenal fan.
“Arsenal is part of me and always will be – half of my heart belongs to Arsenal, and the other half to my family.
“The understanding I have with Arsenal fans is something I cannot describe – it’s something I’m always going to miss.”

    POOL OF TALENT
Liverpool’s four-man transfer shortlist to replace their misfiring front three includes Erling Haaland and Jack Grealish, according to Stan Collymore.
The former Reds striker, 50, also believes Barcelona sensation Ansu Fati and AZ Alkmaar forward Myron Boadu are being monitored by the Anfield club.

LFC front 3 have won the lot and may fancy Madrid, Bayern or Juve for a new challengeSo don’t discount an overhaul being at least being whispered at LFC.Haaland, Grealish, Fati ( Barca completely skint) Boadu ( couple of Dutch coaches i know love this kid) all on a list.
    — Stan Collymore (@StanCollymore) March 7, 2021

There is growing speculation Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane will leave the club this summer with Robbie Fowler urging his former side to ‘cash in’.
Collymore took to Twitter following Sunday’s shock defeat to Fulham – the reigning champions’ SIXTH home loss on the spin.
He wrote: “Have wondered for a while whether RF/MS/SM have come to a natural end at Liverpool and whether the club are well down the line at not only realising that but actively looking for a younger, hungrier versions.
“Something doesn’t look right though. LFC front 3 have won the lot and may fancy Madrid, Bayern or Juve for a new challenge.
“So don’t discount an overhaul being at least being whispered at LFC. Haaland, Grealish, Fati (Barca completely skint) Boadu (couple of Dutch coaches I know love this kid) all on a list.”

    PASSING THE TEST
Prem Covid testers recorded just two positive over the past seven days – for the FOURTH week running.
The two positives came in the batch of 1,599 tests between Monday and Thursday last week, with the 1,276 tests between Friday and Sunday all clear.
It is further proof of the success of the League’s enhanced protocols, brought in at the start of January.
The last completely clear testing run was in the final week of last season in July.
The pleasing numbers continue the recent trend since football clubs tightened up their coronavirus protocols.
Over Christmas there were numerous embarassing episodes of players breaking rules, with outbreaks occuring at multiple teams.
Clubs were reminded of their responsibility to improve and follow the rules and there has been a marked decline in positive results since.

    NO AIN NO GAIN
Ainsley Maitland-Niles has revealed that he joined West Bromwich Albion in January to avoid ‘rotting away’ on Arsenal’s bench.
The versatile star featured prominently in the Gunners’ run to FA Cup success last season, while also earning his first England caps in the autumn but subsequently struggled for game time.
The 23-year-old told talkSPORT: “It’s another loan deal, you are going to end up going back to the club eventually.
“It was just more of a chance for me to show what I’m capable of other than sitting on the bench for the rest of the season and rotting away.
“The main reason was being able to play as there’s nothing better than playing. I felt it would be great to experience the work of people trying to save their careers and stay in the Premier League.
“I think it was the perfect fit for me to be here and show them the qualities I can produce.”

    EUR IN
Here’s how England could line up at the delayed Euro 2020 tournament.
With talk Matt Targett is set for a call-up, how might the side look if Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate plumps for the Aston Villa man at left-back.

    NOT SO SUPER
Uefa and Europe’s biggest clubs are set to kill off the proposed Super League – and adopt the planned revamp of the Champions League.
In the clearest sign of the new mood in European football, Uefa General Secretary Giorgio Marchetti opened the general assembly of the European Club Association with a withering blast at the Super League plans pushed by Real Madrid and backed by Manchester United and Liverpool.
And that was followed up as ECA head and Juventus President Andrea Agnelli urged the clubs to commit to the Uefa-led proposal for a 36-team elite competition from 2024.
In what was a blatant attack on the Super League plotters, Marchetti said: “We realise that unity can easily be dissolved when insidious ideas are pursued under the pretense of survival, growth or business needs.
“Unfortunately, the rest of football, about 99 per cent of it, would not be invited to enjoy this new Super Union.
“Surviving this affliction is not just about quick fixes or effective remedies that fit the wealthiest and the privileged few but taking care of everybody, the whole of football, the big and the small, the weak and the strong.”

    WALK AND TALK
Bruno Fernandes ignored a yelp from the touchline as Kyle Walker tried to put the Manchester United star off his penalty on Sunday.
The defender’s claim that Ederson would get the better of Fernandes was picked up by pitchside microphones.

With no fans inside the Etihad Stadium, a Sky Sports clip revealed the shout as Fernandes ran up.
A voice can be heard calling out: “He’s saved it!”
It’s not clear from the video who was behind the shout but reporters from the Mirror and Standard pinpointed Walker.

    CROWN & OUT
Defeat to Fulham left Liverpool with a six-game Anfield losing streak and the worst decline of any Premier League champion in history.
The Reds romped to the title last season, their first in 30 years, with a hugely impressive 99 points to their name.

Few expected Jurgen Klopp’s side to match that tally again yet even the most pessimistic fan would have dismissed the sort of collapse that was to follow.
Mario Lemina made hay on an uncharacteristic Mohamed Salah mistake at Anfield to fire 18th-placed Fulham to a huge 1-0 win.
It followed victories on Merseyside for Manchester City, Everton, Burnley, Chelsea and Brighton in recent weeks, as well as a defeat away to Leicester.

    THIA-NO GO
Here’s how Chelsea could line up against Everton tonight – with Thiago Silva still expected to be sidelined.

    CASH IS KING
David Moyes has warned Chelsea they’ll have to fork out ‘way more’ than £100million to land star man Declan Rice.
The Blues have been long-term admirers of the defensive midfielder and looked into the possibility of landing him last summer.

Declan Rice could cost over £100mCredit: News Group Newspapers Ltd
Speaking ahead of West Ham’s clash with Leeds on Monday night, he said: “I don’t agree with the owners that Declan Rice is a £100m footballer… far, far more than £100m.
“I look at the players who have joined some clubs from overseas and come in and had nowhere near the impact that Declan Rice would have.
“Also he is English, [we have] just had Brexit, so I wouldn’t agree with the owners if Declan Rice was only £100m. No, I wouldn’t.”
The defensive midfielder still has a contract with West Ham until 2024 with the option of an extra year.

    RAPH AND READY
Leeds winger Raphina insisted he is happy at the club despite links with Manchester United and Liverpool.
The Brazilian has bagged five goals and five assists in 20 Prem games, catching the eye of the league’s big boys.
He told Sky Sports: “The club, all the people who work here, the staff and the players have really helped me develop. I’m really grateful for this and always look to do my best for them all. This creates a bond with everybody here.
“I’m really happy here and feel I’ve adapted well. Everything’s in place for us to achieve good results working together.
“We know that Leeds are a club who belong in the Premier League. We’ll be always looking to keep the club here.
“We’re also aware that we’re a promoted side that needs to adapt to the league like we’re doing now. Our initial objective is to stay in the top division.”

    REF MIC?
The FA says it welcomes talk over broadcasting refereeing decisions to clarify the process in a similar fashion to rugby.
The laws of the game currently stop the audio between officials being broadcast live.
FA chief exec Mark Bullingham told Sky Sports News: “I think it’s absolutely worth exploring.
“Our starting point has to be that anything which adds value to the fan, and demystifies any part of the decision making by referees, has got to be something that we’d consider, of course.
“We then need to look at that counter arguments that might exist from any referees feeling that’s intrusive.”

    LAMP FADE
Brighton will be without wing-back Tariq Lamptey for the rest of the season.
The former Chelsea ace was instrumental for Graham Potter’s side in the early weeks of the season, grabbing assists in his first three games.
But he has been unavailable for selection since mid-December, after sustaining a hamstring injury against Fulham.
According to The Athletic, the 20-year-old underwent surgery in London on Saturday to repair a tear in the tendon.
The operation is believed to have been a success.
But while Lamptey will likely return to training before the end of the season, he isn’t expected to be fully fit in time to play another game this term.

    ODE TO MIK
Martin Odegaard insists Arsenal will return to great heights under ’top coach’ Mikel Arteta.
The 22-year-old has only worked with the Spaniard for around five weeks since his arrival at the Emirates on-loan from Real Madrid.
And the Norwegian midfield has already seen enough to be convinced Arteta will guide the Gunners back to glory ‘very soon’.
Odegaard told BT Sport: “He’s a top coach, he’s really intelligent. He’s really smart.
“There are so many things to learn from him, so I’m just happy to be here.
“I think the club is in the process now where things have changed a little bit but, from what I’m seeing here and what I’ve experienced at the club, I’m sure that the club will be back at the top very soon.”

    NOBLE CAUSE
West Ham legend and captain Mark Noble has signed a one-year extension at the club.
The 33-year-old has been rewarded for his reaction to a lack of playing time this season and will begin his 18th campaign in East London next year.
David Moyes has used Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek in the middle of the park to great effect with no room for the reliable Noble.
The Hammers have had a remarkable season and are now challenging for a Champions League spot.

    TON LASHING
Jose Mourinho hailed his Centurions and then told the doubters: Not bad for a defensive, negative side.
Clinical Tottenham thrashed Crystal Palace 4-1 with two goals from Harry Kane and Gareth Bale.
Mourinho, 58, is often irked by the reputation that he is not an attack-minded coach.
Yet he possesses one of the best striking units in world football as they became the second team after Bayern Munich in Europe’s top-five leagues to notch 100 goals this campaign.
Spurs boss Mourinho said: “I was happy with the attitude, the feeling and naughty smile of scoring 100 goals in the season – and we’re a defensive team.
“The stat I was given is not bad for a very defensive team, for a very negative team.

    ELBOW REECE
Reece James is relishing his friendly rivalry with Callum Hudson-Odoi for a spot in the Chelsea team.
But James knows he must win the battle for Thomas Tuchel’s right wing-back place to remain in the frame for Gareth Southgate’s England Euros squad.
Chelsea will look to continue their unbeaten run under new boss Tuchel against Everton tonight, with James, 21, starting four of those ten matches.
Hudson-Odoi, 20, has been preferred in other games, though James got the nod for Thursday’s 1-0 win at Liverpool.
He said: “I’ve known Callum for years and there is no problem between me and him. We get on well together and it is part of the game.”

    CITY OF GLOVE
Chelsea are being led by Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, according to reports.
The Blues are believed to be interested in the giant stopper, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
Italian website Libero last week claimed that Chelsea are readying a a £175,000-a-week offer for the 22-year-old.
But according to Tutto Mercato, Thomas Tuchel’s side face stiff competition.
They reckon that the German’s old club PSG are interested in Italy’s No1, as they chase a replacement for current first choice Keylor Navas.

    IF THE SHIRT FITS
Manchester United are closing in on a new £70million-per-year shirt sponsorship deal.
A mystery American software company is understood to be the front-runner to replace Chevrolet, whose £64m-a-year agreement expires in December.
Sources say talks with the potential new partner are ongoing but the news fits in with the bullish attitude executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward took last week.
And it means Man Utd could end up wearing — and selling — shirts with two different names on the front next season.

    STURGEON ANGER
Nicola Sturgeon ordered Rangers to tell their “disgraceful” fans to head home after breaking lockdown rules this afternoon.
Thousands of Gers fans descended on Glasgow’s George Square to celebrate their club’s title win.
The Ibrox side were crowned champions today after Celtic’s goalless draw with Dundee United at Tannadice.
Footage shows jubilant fans waving flags and letting off smoke bombs as they celebrate clinching the league trophy.
Fans also gathered at Ibrox for title celebrations – defying current lockdown restrictions – after the Hoops’ latest slip up sealed their fate.

I share folks’ anger at this. Everyone has made so many sacrifices in the past year & seeing a minority risk our progress is infuriating & disgraceful. It is deeply unfair to the entire country, and the police have a hard enough job already. Please ask fans to go home @RangersFC https://t.co/haH5DAzhIh

    3 LIONS KO
Jadon Sancho faces a month on the sidelines which would rule him out of England’s World Cup qualifying triple-header.
The winger, 20, missed Borussia Dortmund’s 4-2 Bundesliga loss to Bayern Munich on Saturday and his muscle injury is worse than expected.
Gareth Southgate names his Three Lions squad on March 18 for qualifiers against San Marino, Albania and Poland at the end of the month.
Sancho picked up the injury in the German Cup last week and may not be back until April.
He has been in excellent form for Dortmund since the turn of the year, scoring eight goals and providing seven assists in just 13 appearances.

    PORT OF CALL
Joan Laporta has been elected as Barcelona president for a second time.
The 58-year-old won the vote to see off rivals Victor Font and Toni Freixa to bag the top job.
Laporta has previously held the position at the Nou Camp between 2003 and 2010.
The LaLiga side tweeted out the final results, with Laporta amassing 57.69 per cent of the vote.
Font came home in second with 31.11 per cent, with Freixa on 10.01 per cent.

    RED ALERT
Liverpool should sell Mohamed Salah and re-build their squad in the same way they did after Philippe Coutinho left, says Reds legend Robbie Fowler.
Speaking in his column for The Mirror, he said: “I’m not having a go at Salah. I love him to bits.
“But I truly believe that transfers now are largely about what players want, so the ball is in his court, not Liverpool’s.
“If he wants to go, then he should go. If a player wants to leave, we have to accept it’s in the mix.
“I’m a firm believer that if they are unhappy and want to be going, then they should be going.
“Jurgen Klopp has said the same, too – he doesn’t want anyone at the club who doesn’t want to be there. It is my belief that was his attitude with Philippe Coutinho. He agitated for a move.
“Klopp didn’t want Coutinho because he thought his attitude wasn’t right, and he didn’t want that poison in his camp in the end.
“So if Salah is truly unhappy, if he is upset he hasn’t been given a new contract or whatever, then cash in, get as much as you can for him and use the money to make tweaks with the current team.
“I’m a fan of Salah, obviously, who wouldn’t be? But Liverpool didn’t miss Coutinho that much, did they?”

    PEP TALK
Pep Guardiola shrugged off a heated touchline exchange with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as Manchester United ended Man City’s run of 21 wins.
Etihad chief Guardiola swapped animated words with his counterpart after a quick City throw-in stopped United immediately replacing injured striker Marcus Rashford.
Solskjaer protested with waving arms before Mason Greenwood eventually came on, United then successfully maintaining their 2-0 lead.
Quizzed by Sky Sports afterwards, Guardiola brushed aside the matter, shaking his head and saying: “Ah, no problem, no problem – it’s solved.”

    FERMIDABLE
Bruno Fernandes feels his side barely put a foot wrong in clinching a massive 2-0 win over rivals Manchester City.
The Portuguese told Sky Sports: “It’s always difficult to play against Manchester City. They are difficult on the ball and tough to play against. Today we did almost everything perfect.
“It’s not about winning against City, it’s about winning every game.
“Scoring in the first minute was perfect, we had more space to counter. We remained focused until the end of the game. When we defend well we know we’ll have chances to score.
“The league is not a sprint. It’s is a marathon. We have to do our best and not think about others.”

    ANT MAN
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was delighted with Anthony Martial ‘rediscovering’ his form versus Manchester City.
The striker was a constant menace for Pep Guardiola’s defence and won the early penalty that set Manchester United on their way to victory.
Solskjaer told Sky Sports: “Anthony was absolutely superb today, he was the Anthony of old.
“To think he was a doubt this morning, it wasn’t until after the warm-up as I wasn’t sure if he was going to play or not. So, fantastic.
“It’s football isn’t it? Today he rediscovered himself, he was really strong on the ball and positive.
“We have to be positive, every game is different. We want to play with a high tempo of course, but we had to defend well.
“You’ve got to defend so that you can attack spaces that appear.”

    MEDIA FRENZY
Erik Pieters is receiving support from Burnley after receiving a torrent of online abuse following the Arsenal match.
Arsenal felt they should have had a penalty at Turf Moor, after the ball struck Pieters’ arm in the penalty box from Nicolas Pepe’s cross.
Burnley are aware of the abuse and released a statement suggesting support has been offered to Pieters and his family.
It read, “We are aware of online abuse directed at Erik Pieters following yesterday’s game.
“Thanks to all who have highlighted it.
“We are in contact with all relevant parties and offering our support to Erik and his family.”

    LUKE AT THAT
Exclusive by Alan Nixon: Chelsea midfielder Luke McCormick may have played his way into a move to Millwall.
McCormick has caught the eye on a loan spell at League One Bristol Rovers and the Lions hope to tie up a deal for him in the summer.
The 22-year-old is set to leave Stamford Bridge before going into the last year of his deal.
That should see a switch across London to join Gary Rowett’s Championship outfit.

    RAM-P IT UP
Real Madrid have told Sergio Ramos to take or leave an offer to renew his contract, according to reports.
The 34-year-old has been a huge part of the Bernabeu side since joining in 2005, earning the full-time club captaincy after a decade at the club.
According to Marca, Real have given the defender until the end of the month to decide his future.
The one-year extension on the table contains an option for another season in the Spanish capital.

MANCHESTER CITY 0 MANCHESTER UNITED 2
Luke Shaw’s first goal in a year has put the away side in full control with Pep Guardiola’s men in danger of losing their winning streak.

    IBRA CADABRA
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is reportedly set to come out of international retirement to play for Sweden for the first time since 2016.
The AC Milan striker hasn’t played for the Scandinavian country since Euro 2016, with his last appearance for his country coming in the 1-0 defeat against Belgium.
Ibrahimovic – who expressed his interest in playing for Sweden at the 2018 World Cup – insisted last year that he wasn’t thinking of returning to the national team.
But according to FotbollDirekt, the 39-year-old is poised to end his hiatus with the maverick forward to be called up to Janne Andersson’s squad on March 16.

    KNEE JERK REACTION
Derby announce they will no longer take the knee in support of Black Lives Matter because more practical action is needed.
The statement read: “Derby County’s players and staff have confirmed, unanimously, that they will no longer take a knee before matches,’ a statement read.
“This decision has been made after discussions as a group, including first-team players and senior staff members, in recent days.
“It has been decided, as a collective group, to no longer take a knee.
“This decision has been made because the symbolic gesture of taking a knee is not enough; more needs to be done and we are committed to playing an important role in this.”

    CAUSE FOR KONSERN
Aston Villa are reportedly in talks with Ezri Konsa about a new deal in a bid to fend off interest from Liverpool and Tottenham.
The Mirror claim Dean Smith is desperate to keep hold of the defender and are set to offer improved terms to match his status in the squad.
The report adds that Konsa’s proposed new deal will bring him in line with some of the other top earners at the club.

    MI-NO CONTRACT?
Paul Pogba’s future looks increasingly uncertain as reports claim his agent Mino Raiola has not yet opened talks with Manchester United over a new contract.
The 27-year-old, whose current deal expires next summer, has been linked with several clubs over a possible move.
According to the Daily Star, there is no current dialogue between Raiola and United.

Liverpool star Mo Salah gave the ball away and Fulham’s Mario Lemina took full advantage to rifle home past Alisson.

    LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN
Steven Gerrard has won the first league title of his career as manager of Rangers.
With Celtic only able to draw 0-0 with St Mirren, Gerrard’s side were crowned SPL champs for the first time in a decade.

    BLUE MOON
Chelsea are reportedly set to offer contract extensions to both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.
The centre-backs have become key players under Thomas Tuchel since he replaced Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge, with the German huge fans of both men.
Rudiger, 28, has started every game under the German gaffer, while Christensen, 24, has featured in five out of the last six Premier League matches.
And with the pair’s contracts to expire in 2022, it has been claimed that the Blues are keen to tie them down to new deals.
According to the Telegraph, Chelsea are planning to offer Christensen a new contract, though talks are yet to take place.
They state that the West London outfit are keen to extend the Denmark international’s stay as they are aware clubs are monitoring his situation.
And Football Insider have revealed that Chelsea are in the process of offering Rudiger a long-term deal ahead of the summer.

    BRU UP A STORM
Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has been criticised by Roy Keane for his ‘disrespectful’ body language.

Roy Keane took aim at Bruno Fernandes
Keane told Sky Sports ahead of the Manchester derby: “We’ve seen him taken off in a few of the games and his body language has not been great.
“There’s nothing wrong with being taken off and shaking your head for ten seconds.
“But if you’re walking off and a team-mate is coming on, and you’re throwing your arms up in the air, that’s disrespectful to your team-mate.
“And we’re on about a leader.
“If I was coming on and the player was shaking his head, almost disrespecting him, saying ‘I’m coming off for you?’, you’d have a quiet word with him in the dressing room.
“And he’s done it a number of times, so he’s on about maturity and showing respect to your team-mates, well show respect if you have a bad game and don’t be throwing your arms up in the air every two minutes.”

    REAL DEAL
Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly interested in bringing Real Madrid pair Lucas Vazquez and Isco to Goodison Park.
The duo were both at the Bernabeu when Ancelotti was manager between 2013 and 2015.

According to Defensa Central, the Everton boss wants to sign Vazquez and Isco to persuade James Rodriguez to stay on Merseyside.
The Colombia international is rumoured to be unhappy at Everton and wants to leave.
It is said he does not like the weather or the physicality of the Premier League.
Rodriguez has rejected the possibility of a return to Real Madrid, claiming that ‘nobody’ wants him there.

    FER REAL
Bruno Fernandes lifted the lid on what he thinks is the key to beating Manchester City in today’s derby at the Etihad.
The Portuguese midfielder told the club’s website: “We know it’s always difficult to play against City; we have to do everything good, almost perfection I think.
“The idea of the football they play is easy to understand but it’s difficult to play against.
“Everyone understands the way they play, they want to have the ball, they want to put pressure on and when they lose it they try to win it straight away.
“Everyone knows that, but it’s difficult to play against and difficult to win the ball and have some possession for a long time against them.
“But I think we have to understand what we can do against that type of game and what we can do better to win the game. We all know it’s difficult for us, but it will be difficult them in the same way.”

    SPEND ON ART
Arsenal have to back Mikel Arteta with funds in the transfer window, says Martin Keown.
The former Gunner argues Arsenal are in a transition phase so Arteta needs money to strengthen all the areas required.
On BT Sport, Keown said: “It was a disastrous start to the season – 14 points from 14 games. They’ve lost 11 games already this season. We are in a rebuilding process.
“Now there is a nucleus of youngsters at Arsenal that they’re relying heavily on. There are some good players. We need to give them a chance.
“I feel if Smith-Rowe was fit today, Odegaard would not be playing. It does point to the direction that the manager wants to go.
“He wants to play this total football style of play, with people who are really technically very gifted.
“There’s no doubt he can do that, Odegaard. Today’s a really big opportunity for him to stamp his future on this football club.”

    NO MOUR OF THAT
Jose Mourinho produced a brutal stats sheet to slate Kevin De Bruyne’s performances at Chelsea, the midfielder has revealed.
De Bruyne told Sky Sports: “There was so much in the press about my relationship with Jose Mourinho.
“But the truth is that I only ever spoke to him twice. The plan was always for me to go on loan for a bit.
“Jose called me into his office in December, and it was probably the second big life-changing moment for me.
“He had some papers in front of him, and he said, ‘One assist. Zero goals. Ten recoveries’.
“It took me a minute to understand what he was doing. Then he started reading the stats of the other attacking forwards – Willian, Oscar, [Juan] Mata, [Andre] Schurrle. And it’s like – five goals, ten assists, whatever.
“Jose was just kind of waiting for me to say something, and finally I said, ‘But… some of these guys have played 15, 20 games. I’ve only played three. So it’s going to be different, no?’.
“It was so strange. I was completely honest. I said, ‘I feel like the club doesn’t really want me here. I want to play football. I’d rather you sell me’.”

    BARC FOR GOOD?
Lionel Messi has voted in the Barcelona presidential election – the outcome of which could desire his future.

    MAN ALIVE
Do any Manchester United players make it into a combined XI with runaway Prem leaders City?

    MO GO – EXCLUSIVE
Blackburn are ready to go foreign if they decide to dump Tony Mowbray as boss.
Owners Venkys and advisers have been looking into a new direction as they review the four-year stint of Mowbray.
They have been on a poor run of results, and the club want to see where it has all gone wrong.
The success of young up-and-coming coaches from abroad — such as Barnsley’s Valerian Ismail — have put them on alert.
This suggests Rovers could look for a foreign boss in their bid to return to the Premier League.
Mowbray had a reprieve yesterday with a 2-0 win at Millwall after goals from Bradley Dack and Sam Gallagher.
But they are still only 15th in the Championship, and had plans of pushing for a promotion spot this campaign.

    MOURINHO ON BALE
Jose Mourinho admits the plan is always to take Bale off as soon as he first starts to feel fatigued.

All the credit for Bale’s form is for him. We never wanted him to arrive at high levels of fatigue. The plan is to take him off at the first sign of tiredness. We need him, it’s as simple as that.

    MOURINHO REACTS
Jose Mourinho says he was HAPPY that Spurs conceded just before the break.

I believe the way we started the second-half shows the team is feeling positive, feeling good and don’t feel the negative pressure. I told them I was happy with the goal we conceded at half-time. They might have thought I was bluffing but I was happy with it. Because it was proof for the players that if you lose control of the game in the end it difficult to keep a clean sheet against this Palace team.
