    ALBANIA 0-0 ENGLAND
    6. A couple of players have lost their footing early on, while passes have gone astray too. The pitch has come in for some criticism ahead of today’s fixture, and looks as though it will be a factor.
Still, it’s the same for both sides, etc, etc
    ALBANIA 0-0 ENGLAND
    5. A positive run from Sterling off the right draws three Albania defenders out of position, but his pass to Phillips is short of its target, and the opportunity of an opening evaporates.
    ALBANIA 0-0 ENGLAND
    3. Good pressure from Sterling forces Djimsiti into punting the ball out of play.
It’s a high-pressing possession game from the Three Lions in these early stages.
    ALBANIA 0-0 ENGLAND
    2. Shaw is looking to make up for lost time, and goes for an early surge with the ball down the left.
The Manchester United man gets the better of two players before being cut off by Ismajli.
    ALBANIA 0-0 ENGLAND
    1. Both teams take the knee, and then it’s England – in all white – that get the action underway.
Albania are in their red shits and black shorts, the referee is Orel Grinfeeld from Israel.
    PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!HERE WE GO!
    TRENT WITH BEST WISHES
Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold may be out of form and out of favour as far as England are concerned, but he’s still fully behind the Three Lions.

    HERE COME THE TEAMS!
Etrit Berisha and Harry Kane lead their teams out in Tirana, and line-up on the pitch for the national anthems.
    SOUTHGATE SETS HIS STALL OUT
England coach Gareth Southgate has been speaking ahead of kick-off, and has expressed what he hopes to see from the team he’s selected this evening.
We’ve got a team where our defenders can play and build a game well, and we have forwards who can finish well. But in actual fact, the key is that our defenders defend extremely well and show resilience, and our forwards defend from the front. I think we have the capabilities to do that with this team. [Albania] are well coached by a very experienced Italian. It’s a really good test for us, and if we want to be a top team, we need to come to places like this and dictate the game, and withstand everything that’s thrown at us.Gareth SouthgateITV
    KANE AND ABLE
With 12 goals, Harry Kane was the top scorer in the last set of qualifiers for a major tournament, the yet-to-take-place Euro 2020, and will now be targeting another glut as the Three Lions embark on the road to Qatar 2022.
In the process of firing his country to finals, the striker has scored in each of his last seven away qualifying matches, the longest ever run by an England player.
Kane has also scored at 16 different stadiums as an England player with only Tom Finney (17), Michael Owen (25) and Wayne Rooney (27) have scored a goal at more different venues for England.
    A SHAW THING
Luke Shaw has been Manchester United’s standout performer in 2021, and his recall to the international stage is just reward.
Today he starts his first England game in two and a half years.

IT WAS TWENTY YEARS AGO TODAY…
…that Sven-Goran Eriksson sent his team to play.
On this day in 2001, England beat Albania 3-1 in Tirana in a World Cup qualifier that left the Three Lions in pole position in Group 9, ahead of Germany on goal difference with two games to play.
Following a drab first hour, Michael Owen opened the scoring in the 73rd minute before Paul Scholes sealed victory with five minutes to go. Although Altin Rraklli pulled one back for the home side in injury time, there was still time for Andy Cole to score his first international goal – at the 13th time of asking.
It was a game also notable for Ashley Cole’s first of 107 caps, and England haven’t returned to Albania until today.
Captain David Beckham celebrates with Andy Cole after England’s third goal in Albania.
    THREE LIONS GOAL HUNGRY
You can only beat what’s in front of you, but England have done just that in their recent qualifying games for major tournaments – and have done so in style.
42 – England have scored 42 goals in their last nine qualifiers for major tournaments (W8 L1), netting five or more goals in six of those games under Gareth Southgate. Barrage.— OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) March 28, 2021

    POPE KEEPING IT CLEAN
Nick Pope has got the nod once again to start in Albania, and the Burnley goalkeeper is 90 minutes away from making history on the international stage.
Pope hasn’t conceded a goal in any of his five appearances for his country so far, and, having become only the second England stopper to do so after Chris Woods, he could today become the first to keep clean sheets in each of his first six international matches.

    ENGLAND SUBSTITUTES
    13 Henderson, 22 Johnstone, 12 Trippier, 14 Lingard, 15 Coady, 16 James, 17 Ward-Prowse, 18 Calvert-Lewin, 19 Mings, 20 Chilwell, 21 Watkins, 23 Bellingham
    ENGLAND XI
Gareth Southgate makes six changes to the side that started against San Marino on Thursday, three of which come in his back four. Kyle Walker and Luke Shaw are the full-backs in place of Chelsea pair Reece James and Ben Chilwell while it’s Harry Maguire who partners John Stones in the centre instead of Conor Coady. In midfield, Declan Rice gets the nod over James Ward-Prowse while Phil Foden and captain Harry Kane replace Jesse Lingard and Dominic Calvert-Lewin up front. It’s a 4-2-3-1 formation for Southgate with Kane leading the line.
    1 Pope; 2 Walker, 6 Maguire, 5 Stones, 3 Shaw; 4 Rice, 8 Phillips; 10 Sterling, 11 Mount, 7 Foden; 9 Kane

    ALBANIA XI
Edoardo Reja makes five changes to the team that beat Andorra as he switches from a 3-5-2 to a 3-4-3. Hysen Memolla comes in on the left in place of Thursday’s goalscorer Ermir Lenjani while Freddie Veseli replaces the injured Marash Kumbulla. Qazim Laci starts in midfield over Klaus Gjasula with Ledian Memushaj and Rey Manaj also dropping to the bench; Myrto Uzuni and Armando Broja start in advanced positions.

    THE TEAMSHEETS ARE IN!
    GOOD AFTERNOON FROM TIRANA
Welcome to our live coverage of the World Cup qualifier between Albania and England.
After the challenge of San Marino, it’s the Albanians next for the Three Lions in Group I – otherwise known as ‘The Group of Life.’
Albania, of course, will provide a much sterner test, having evolved into a perfectly competent football nation over the past 25 years.
And Edoardo Reja’s team’s arguably had the more impressive result with their 1-0 victory in Andorra last time out, and have now won their last four games on the international stage.
However, the knee injury sustained to Roma centre-back Marash Kumbulla on Thursday is a huge blow to the Eagles’ hopes of avoiding defeat against England for the first time.
Meanwhile, Gareth Southgate is expected to make changes to his side with three games now scheduled for each country over these international breaks.
However, Nick Pope will remain in goal in the continued absence of the injured Jordan Pickford, and could become the first England keeper in history to keep clean sheets in each of his first six matches for his country.
At the other end of the pitch, Harry Kane is in line for a recall. The England captain has scored in his last seven qualifiers away from home, the longest ever such run by a Three Lions player.
We’ll have confirmation of today’s two teams shortly with the action due underway at the Air Albania Stadium at 5pm.

    ON GAARD
Paul Merson has urged Arsenal to drop Martin Odegaard until they can secure a permanent deal for the Real Madrid talent.
Odegaard has scored twice during his loan spell with the Gunners but Merson does not think he should be guaranteed a place in the side.
Martin Odegaard’s future is up in the airCredit: Reuters
Pundit Merson told the Daily Star: “Martin Odegaard looks a really good player and I hope Arsenal have a chance of signing him permanently.
“Because if they don’t have a chance of making his loan permanent next season, why is he playing?
“If they know he doesn’t want to stay, he shouldn’t be playing because he’s taking opportunities away from people like Emile Smith Rowe.
“So I hope Arsenal have done their homework and know what the situation is – I’d be disappointed if they haven’t already made a bid to be honest.”
    ENGLAND TEAM
Less than half an hour until England get their World Cup qualifier underway in Albania.
Gareth Southgate has made six changes with Phil Foden and Harry Kane starting in attack.

    RAM RAID
Tottenham have asked Juventus about a shock summer swoop for Arsenal icon Aaron Ramsey, according to reports in Italy.
The Serie A giants are set to offload the £400,000-a-week star, 30, as part of a cost-cutting squad overhaul this summer.
Liverpool and Everton have already been linked with the Gunners icon, with the Reds viewing Ramsey as the perfect replacement for out-of-contract Georginio Wijnaldum.
But now Tottenham have emerged as shock suitors for the Welshman.

    STAY OR GO?
Harry Kane then. This story will run and run. It promises to be the transfer saga of the summer.
    Will he leave Tottenham?

    KANE SHOULD GO
Ex-Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe has urged his former teammate Harry Kane to quit the club – if he wants to win trophies.
In an interview with TalkSport, Defoe said: “If you’d have asked me this question a few years ago, I’d have said he should have stayed there, what he’s done at the football club – he’s a legend.
“Since I’ve come away from that and gone to Rangers, I’ve seen that mentality and played for another big club, the importance of playing for that club and winning every game, that mentality, the standards and demands.
“You have to win and bring silverware, otherwise it’s not good enough. When you actually achieve that and the feeling you get from that, wow man. I wish I had that earlier on in my career.
“If Harry Kane wants that and wants to win trophies then it looks like he has to go.
“I don’t think it will be easy for him to leave and he might be looking at it and want to finish off being the highest goalscorer in the club’s history and see where that takes him.
“He can hopefully win a few trophies, but if he’s really craving medals then he really has to go.”

    ROB LEE SLAMS ANTHONY MARTIAL
Former England international Rob Lee has hit out at Man Utd forward Anthony Martial for his ‘terrible’ attitude.
He told: Football Fancast: “He’s such a talented lad, he’s quick and he can finish well but some days, he just doesn’t seem interested.
“His attitude seems terrible. So yeah, if somebody would give me £50 million for him, I’d snap their hand off.”

    LUK AT THAT RECORD
Romelu Lukaku scored yet again for his country last night, as Belgium drew 1-1 with the Czech Republic.
And the strike was his 59th for his country, as he boasts an astonishing record for the Belgian Red Devils.
With his side trailing 1-0 courtesy of Lukas Provod’s 50th minute effort, Lukaku found himself one on one with the last defender on the hour mark.
He twisted one way, then the other, before finishing past Tomas Vaclik in the Czech goal.
His effort saw the Inter Milan striker pull even further ahead at the top Belgium’s all-time leading goalscorer standings.
Current team-mate Eden Hazard is second on the list, 27 behind on 32 goals from 106 caps aged 30.

    DYB-ING WAR
Manchester United and City are among SIX clubs set to be offered Paulo Dybala as part of a sensational summer swap deal, according to reports.
Juventus have long been keen to move on the Argentine international, 26, with the forward close to a move to Old Trafford in the summer of 2019.

    ATLETICO SET LLORENTE PRICE
Atletico Madrid have reportedly set an asking price for Man Utd target Marcos Llorente.
The Spanish winger will set the Red Devils back a whopping £103million, according to Marca.

    GEOR BLIMEY
Liverpool ace Georginio Wijnaldum was involved in a heated touchline row with Holland boss Frank De Boer.
The Reds midfielder was hauled off with just 11 minutes left of his country’s 2-0 win against Latvia in their World Cup qualifier on Saturday.
But he reacted badly when his number came up and was visibly upset with his national manager.
The two had a frosty exchange of words as he made his way off.
Find out what the Liverpool man said about it after the game by clicking on our story here.

    LUKAK-BLUE
Chelsea have received a boost in their pursuit of Romelu Lukaku with Inter Milan reportedly ready to listen to offers.
But any San Siro departure for the former Blues striker is said to depend on whether Inter can land Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero on a free.
The Belgian has been a revelation at the San Siro but the Serie A giants are prepared to sell to help combat the financial impact of Covid-19, according to the Star.
Chelsea are said to be considering a move for the former Manchester United forward if they fail to land No 1 striker target Erling Haaland.
Lukaku was on the books at Chelsea between 2011 and 2014 and he is one of five hitmen that could make a summer switch to Stamford Bridge.

    .
    DALOT DEAL
Manchester United and AC Milan have opened talks over the permanent transfer of Diogo Dalot.
The 22-year-old is currently on-loan at the Serie A club from Old Trafford and has appeared 24 times this term.
Now The Metro claims Milan have tabled a £12million offer to try to sign the Portuguese defender permanently.
Dalot is happy in Italy and is believed he would be open to extending his stay there.
However, Milan – like most teams across Europe – are struggling to splash huge sums on players, resulting in their bid being short of the £19m United handed over to Porto in the summer of 2018.
He is on around £40,000-a-week, well within the wage structure Milan can afford with other team members on a lot more than him.

    ‘VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO SIGN KANE’
Spurs striker Harry Kane will be ‘virtually impossible’ for clubs to afford this summer, according to Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol.
Kane’s comments this weekend have sparked speculation over his future with Tottenham.
But it has now been reported that due to financial strains caused by the coronavirus pandemic along with the price Daniel Levy will demand, it is unlikely the England forward will depart at the end of the season.

    SHAW THING
Gareth Southgate has been praising Manchester United full-back Luke Shaw ahead of England’s game against Albania this evening.
The Three Lions coach said: “He’s been very good. Luke played in the first Under-21 game I took charge of.
“There’s never been any doubt in our mind about Luke’s quality.
“It’s been great to see him playing on the front foot as a full-back, with his defending and he’s been really ambitious with his attacking.
“He looks like he’s in good condition to drive forward, he’s got excellent quality with the ball, it’s a good moment for him.
“He’s aggressive against his wingers, he’s difficult to play against one-vs-one, he’s getting better with his cover defending for his centre-backs.
“He’s got to find the level he’s shown at his club and play his game.”

    TIMO FOR ERLING?
The Express are reporting that Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel wants to include Timo Werner as part of a swap deal for Erling Haaland.
The Borussia Dortmund striker has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs including Manchester City and Manchester United.
And Blues manager Tuchel is said to have asked Abramovich to put the part-swap deal into action.

    RECAP
Little recap of some of the biggest stories so far today then.

Kane casts doubt over his Spurs future
    Pjanic is staying at Barcelona
Odegaard could move permanently to Arsenal
Lukaku may be on his way out of Inter

    LUK-ING TO SELL
Inter Milan could be set to sell Romelu Lukaku in the summer, according to The Star.
The Belgian striker has scored 25 goals and provided seven assists in 34 games for the Serie A league leaders this season.
However, in order to balance their books Inter may be willing to let him go for the right price.
Chelsea and Manchester City have both been linked with the former Man Utd man.

    ODEGAARD TO STAY AT ARSENAL
Arsenal have convinced Martin Odegaard to stay at the club beyond the end of the season, according to The Express.
The Norwegian is currently on loan at the Emirates from Real Madrid but was set to return to the Bernabeu in the summer.
However, it is now believed that Odegaard will put pen to paper to remain at Arsenal for the foreseeable future.

WIJNALDUM MOVE UP IN THE AIR
Georginio Wijanldum’s contract expires at Liverpool this summer and he has been linked with a move to Barcelona.
However, with Miralem Pjanic now pledging his future to the Catalan side, the Reds midfielder may not be wanted by Ronald Koeman’s side.

    VILE RACIST ABUSE
Wales stars Rabbi Matondo and Ben Cabango suffered disgusting racist abuse sent online following the 1-0 win over Mexico.
Matondo, who won his eighth Wales cap against the Mexicans, revealed he was called a ‘n*****’ on Instagram.
The ex-Manchester City wideman, who is on loan with the Potters from German side Schalke, posted in response: “Disgraceful”.
Then Matondo added on his Twitter account: “And it continues…another week of @instagram doing absolutely nothing about racial abuse. My insta will get taken down if I post any clips from my games though… #priorities”
Cabango, who helped Wales keep a clean sheet on just his third international appearance, also highlighted the racist abuse he received on social media.
His post read: “It’s 2021 and it’s still happening” in reply to a vile message which read: “F***ing monkey’.

    PAIN IN THE ARSENAL
Arsenal fear Real Madrid will demand £50million for Martin Odegaard this summer, according to reports.
And the Gunners will reportedly face stiff competition from London rivals Chelsea.
Arsenal signed the midfielder on loan in January for a fee of £1.8m and he has produced some stellar performances since.
Real valued him at £30m at the time but refused to include an option-to-buy clause in the deal.
And after his outstanding showing for the Gunners since, they are concerned Real will make them cough up £50m to bring him in on a permanent deal.
Whether Arsenal are able to do that remains to be seen.

    MESLIER MOVE
Paris Saint-Germain are lining up a move for Leeds keeper Illan Meslier, according to The National.
The young shot stopper has impressed for the newly promoted side so far this season.
And now the 21-year-old could be on the end of a big money move to the French champions in the summer.

    MICK SCHUMACHER SPINS OFF
The son of seven-time world has repeated Mazepin’s mistake. He copies his Haas teammate by lighting up the rear tyres and spinning off.
    RACE RESTARTS
It is Verstappen, Hamilton and Leclerc… this is a fantastic battle.
Norris is now chasing Bottas in fourth.
    PROBLEM FOR VERSTAPPEN
He says he has a weird sensation from the peddles. His team are investigating.
    BIG CRASH FOR NIKITA MAZEPIN
His debut is over after three corners as he spins off and goes into the barriers.
    Safety Car is out.

    GO GO GO…
The lights go green in Bahrain.
Verstappen gets away quickly and Hamilton gets in behind the Dutchman. Bottas hold P3 from Leclerc.
    PROBLEM FOR PEREZ
His Red Bull has switched off while on the way to the grid. That is another shocker for the Mexican on his debut for his new team.
Another formation lap as Perez now gets his car going. He is starting from the pitlane.
    FORMATION LAP
Max Verstappen is not hanging about here. He is setting pace already on his way to the grid.
I’d image he’s all rather excited, starting P1 in race 1.

A REMINDER THAT SEBASTIAN VETTEL STARTS LAST
The Aston Martin man was penalised earlier for ignoring yellow flags during qualifying. He is demoted from 18th to 20th on the grid on his debut for his new team. Not the start he was hoping for.
    PRE RACE MESSAGE
Again, F1’s pre-race message is confusing. Some drivers standing, some kneeling. Some in t-shirts, some are not.Lewis Hamilton did take a knee and is wearing a t-shirt saying “Actions Speak Louder Than Words”.
    20 MINUTES TO GO
The season opener is close to getting the green light.
Can Max Verstappen continue his form and covert his pole into a win?
Or will Lewis Hamilton bounce back? You cannot rule the seven-time world champion out of this.
Valtteri Bottas starts in P3. Also keep an eye on Charles Leclerc in P4. And for both the McLarens.
    GOOD MORNING F1 FANS
Max Verstappen is on pole for the season opening Bahrain Grand Prix.
The Red Bull driver was 0.388 of a second faster than defending champion Lewis Hamilton.
Hamilton accepts he is not going to have it all his own way this season with the pace of rivals Red Bull.
Hamilton said: “Congratulations to Max. He did such an amazing job, so fast on that last lap.
“I absolutely gave it everything I had, but unfortunately it wasn’t good enough.”
    TAKE SOME ‘STAPPEN
Lewis Hamilton knows he is not going to get it all his own way this season after seeing how tough his title defence is going to be.
Max Verstappen took pole in the Bahrain GP with a sensational lap that gave Red Bull their first back-to-back pole positions since 2013.
Lewis Hamilton faces a bigger challenge this seasonCredit: Getty
Hamilton said: “Every deficit is difficult to take and it is the first race of the season and Red Bull have the quicker car in Bahrain than us.
“I am proud of how we recovered from the test, that was suboptimal and now the fight is on.
“If we analysed the regulations and say ‘that’s it,’ then we could not be fighters.
“We just need to get that car in its sweet spot so it can combat with our competitors.”
    MAX POWER
A reminder of Max Verstappen’s reaction to taking pole position for the opening Grand Prix of the season.

The Red Bull star said: “We had a good week of testing.
“There are no guarantees but it’s been great so far, really enjoyable to drive.
“With the wind conditions changing, it’s not easy to change the set up of the car but I’m really happy with pole position.
“My first lap in Q3 wasn’t amazing but finally, the balance was there. You have to be careful not to overheat the rear tyres.
“The car has been steady on the short and long runs, we have a good car. We need a good, clean start.”
    POLE POSITION
Watch Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton give their reaction to qualifying for the season opener in Bahrain.
Max Verstappen says the whole weekend has been going really well while Lewis Hamilton reacts to starting Bahrain GP in second
    ON YOUR MARKS
If you listen to most people inside the paddock, there are only small changes to the rulebook for the new season.
This was supposed to be the radical season that F1’s owners, Liberty Media, had hoped would transform the sport.
The new season starts this weekendCredit: Avalon.red
But the Covid-19 pandemic and decrease in revenues across the board saw them delay those plans for 2022.
The biggest change to the aerodynamics is to do with the car’s floor.
Essentially these have been reduced in size so there is less surface area to generate downforce.
The introduction of a cost-cap, set at $145million or £106million is an F1 first.
That covers the cost of running the F1 team for a season, but it excludes drivers salaries, the three highest-paid members of staff and marketing costs.
    GREEN FLAG
Another reminder of course that the season opener gets underway tomorrow afternoon.
The Bahrain Grand Prix starts at 4pm on Sunday with Max Verstappen on pole for Red Bull.

Will Verstappen be able to hold off world champion Lewis Hamilton and claim victory in the first race of the season?
    CHANGING GEARS
IT is just 103 days since the final race of the 2020 season in Abu Dhabi, but over the winter there have been plenty of changes.
A total of 12 drivers have moved to F1, or left, or changed teams, that’s over half of the grid.

Some of the biggest stories include Mick Schumacher, the son of seven-times world champion Michael, selected for the Haas team.
There is also a return for Fernando Alonso with the two-times world champion back following a two-year break.
How will they get on in tomorrow’s season opener?
    NO STOPPING VERSTAPPEN
All the talk coming in this week was about the pace of the Red Bull.
And Max Verstappen certainly backed this up with a dominant performance in qualifying.

The Dutchman was quickest in all three practice sessions and the qualifying sessions as he stormed to pole.
    NO SCHU IN
It was a tough introduction for Mick Schumacher as he ended up 19th – ahead of only Haas team-mate Nikita Mazepin.

    HAMILTON REACTS
The world champ will start tomorrow on the front row and just behind Max Verstappen.
He said: “Congratulations to Max. He did such an amazing job, so fast on that last lap.
“I absolutely gave it everything I had, but unfortunately it wasn’t good enough.
“There’s always more, but it was the best I could do, I got everything I could from the car.”

    DUTCH COURAGE
Verstappen tells Sky Sports’ David Coulthard: “We had a good week of testing.
    TOP 10
Here is how they finished after Q3 in Bahrain.
A handy .388 of a second advantage for Max Verstappen shows just how fast that Red Bull has been.

    ‘PENALDO AND PERNANDES’
Jose Enrique has jokingly ripped into former Manchester United player Cristiano Ronaldo and current Red Devil Bruno Fernandes.
The post came after Diogo Jota was confirmed to be injured following his two goals for Portugal against Serbia on Saturday night.
Enrique ribbed Ronaldo and Fernandes for what he deemed to be Jota ‘carrying’ the team.
    Check it out below.

VAN DE BEEK HELPS NETHERLANDS TO WIN
Donny van de Beek helped Netherlands to a 2-0 win over Latvia last night.

    UNITED DUO
Manchester United duo Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba are both starting for France against Kazakhstan today.

    TWO YEARS ON

    MAGUIRE PRAISES RASHFORD
Harry Maguire has praised Marcus Rashford for accepting his England call-up despite being injured prior to the international break.
The Man Utd man will play no part in the World Cup qualifiers and Maguire has now given a bit of insight into the thinking behind Rashford accepting the call-up from Southgate.
He said: “It’s a bit strange with everything that’s going on, with the pandemic.
“That shows a lot from Marcus, it was a little reminder of the way we work, the principles we’ve got.
“It’s really important to show the group is together and Marcus has come even though he probably knew in his mind he wasn’t going to be fit, it shows the spirit between the players.”

    GILLESPIE ON MAN UTD
Former Man Utd player Kevin Gillespie has spoken about why he feels the club should go after Erling Haaland.
He told Football Fancast: “City are so far ahead at the minute, get Haaland, he’s the hottest property probably in world football at the minute, his stats are incredible.
“He’s a natural finisher, he’s young as well, and he’s going to come into that Man City team and score a lot of goals because of the players he’d have around him, so I think it’s important that United compete with Man City should he become available.
“I think he will become available with whatever clause he has in his contract but I suppose money talks and whatever’s offered, Dortmund might cash in.
“Certainly, they need to be showing that they are interested in a player like him, and obviously there’s been talk about Haaland before with Man United, that he is one that is on their radar.”
    CALLING ON KANE
Man Utd fans’ ears would have pricked up following Harry Kane’s quotes today.
Can we imagine the England talisman at Old Trafford? Would be very bizarre seeing him in that shirt.

    YOR THE ONE
Dwight Yorke has revealed he was Sir Alex Ferguson’s first-choice striker when he arrived at Manchester United in 1998.
The Premier League winner played up front with Andy Cole, Teddy Sheringham and current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during his time at Old Trafford.
    Credit: PA
The 49-year-old recalled a private conversation with Ferguson in an interview with TalkSPORT.
Yorke revealed: “He said ‘We want you here at the football club, we’ve watched you a few times, we know how good you are, you just need a platform to excel’.
“I knew that I was coming up against some excellent players, like Teddy, Ole and Coley.
“I wondered where I was going to be playing in this team. So he said, ‘I want you as my No 9’.
“I said, ‘What about all the rest of them?’ And he said, ‘You are my number one’. That was enough. That was all I needed to hear from him.”
    BIG DECISION
Here’s a question then United fans. Mbappe, Haaland or Kane?
Don’t think it’s a stretch to say you’d have any of them. But who would be your preferred option?
    OPENING THE DOOR?
Harry Kane may well have just opened the door to a possible transfer this summer.
Here is what the Spurs striker – who has been linked to Man Utd – said about the speculation over his future.
He told Sky Sports: “I think that’s a hard question to answer right now (whether the speculation will impact his performances for England).
“It’s important that all my focus is on the two England games coming up now and the rest of the season with Spurs and then the Euros. To be thinking about speculation or rumours would be damaging in terms of my own performance.
“I always like to be focused on one goal and one job and that’s to finish strong with Spurs, win these qualifiers with England and hopefully go on and have a great Euros. Look, I try to stay out of that speculation as much as possible.
“I’m fully focused on doing the job on the pitch from now until the end of the summer, and then we’ll see where we go from there.”

    ERL OF MADRID
Man Utd target Erling Haaland is being lined up as an option for Real Madrid, according to The Mirror.
The Spanish giants are looking to sell a number of players this summer in order to bring in either Haaland or Kylian Mbappe.
Man Utd have been linked with Haaland for a very long time, but could be set to miss out as a number of European superpowers look to secure his signature.

    SARR INSTEAD OF SANCHO
So Manchester United fans, what do you make of the fact that Watford’s Ismaila Sarr could replace Jadon Sancho as the club’s target this summer.
A major step down? Or a financially shrewd move?

    GOOD MORNING RED DEVILS FANS
Jesse Lingard has admitted he watched old videos of him in action to help rediscover his form and end his Old Trafford woes.
Manchester United have reportedly been told to match Marco Llorente’s £103million release clause if they want to sign the Atletico Madrid midfielder.
Edinson Cavani has been urged to quit United by the Uruguay assistant coach and play where he is comfortable.
Anthony Joshua paid a visit to see Manchester United legend David Beckham at Inter Miami.
United’s kit has reportedly been leaked online sparking mixed opinions from fans.
Man United Women celebrated hosting their first match at Old Trafford by defeating West Ham 2-0.
Former Valencia goalkeeper Santiago Canizares has hit out at Gary Neville for ‘treating the opportunity to coach them as a joke’.
    JESSE WATCH IT
Jesse Lingard admits he dug out recordings of his old games to help him through his Old Trafford nightmare.
The midfielder acknowledges he went through a tough time before securing a January loan switch from Manchester United to West Ham.

Lingard said: “There was a time in lockdown when I just looked back at some old England games, and games that I played well in for United, just to get the fire in my belly again.
“Since coming here I’ve had targets written down on a board and until I hit them, I won’t be fulfilled.”
    YOR THE ONE
Dwight Yorke has revealed he was Sir Alex Ferguson’s first-choice striker when he arrived at Manchester United in 1998.
The Premier League winner played up front with Andy Cole, Teddy Sheringham and current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during his time at the club.
Dwight Yorke was Sir Alex Ferguson’s first choice striker at Old Trafford
Recalling a conversation with Ferguson, Yorke told talkSPORT: “He said, ‘We want you here at the football club, we’ve watched you a few times, we know how good you are, you just need a platform to excel’.
“I knew that I was coming up against some excellent players, like Teddy, Ole and Coley.
“I wondered where I was going to be playing in this team. So he said, ‘I want you as my No. 9’.
“I said, ‘What about all the rest of them?’ And he said, ‘You are my number one’. That was enough.”
Where does Yorke rank in your memories of United’s strikers under Ferguson?
    POPE BLESSING
Dean Henderson will not play England’s two World Cup qualifiers this week.
England boss Gareth Southgate has confirmed Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope will start against Albania and Poland.

Pope started against San Marino but hardly touched the ball against the minnows.
And Southgate has chosen to keep Pope in the side for his side’s next two matches.
    ALL GRAVEY
Ajax talent Ryan Gravenberch is a ‘better version of Paul Pogba’, according to the teenager’s former coach.
The 18-year-old joined Ajax’s academy in 2010 and became the club’s youngest Eredivisie player aged 16 years and 130 days.

Brian Tevreden, who promoted him to Ajax U15s at the age of 12, told Goal: “Physically, I see Frank [Rijkaard] in him from back in the day because he’s tall and very strong.
“But technically, I would say he’s a better version of Pogba in his best days at Juventus, in terms of his technique and his presence on the pitch.
“He’s very dominant like Pogba was, and that’s what I see in Ryan.”

Whyte vs Povetkin 2 LIVE REACTION: Whyte scores impressive rematch knockout, targets Deontay Wilder – latest reaction

DILLIAN WHYTE brutally stopped Alexander Povetkin in the fourth round as the Body Snatcher avenged his loss in Gibraltar. There was no repeat of last summer as Whyte boxed on the front foot and knocked out Povetkin in stunning fashion.
Follow ALL of the latest reaction below…
    FAN FAIR
It really was great to see fans back last night, even if it was just 500 spectators.

    WHAT A PHOTO

    DILL THE DAD
Dillian Whyte revealed he is yet to meet his four-month-old son due to his intense training camps for the Alexander Povetkin rematch.
Speaking to iFL TV behind the scenes after the fourth-round KO against the Russian, Whyte detailed the extent of his sacrifice.
He said: “My child hasn’t seen me. I’ve never met my son. Never. My son is four months old and I’ve never seen him.
“I call everyday and his mother has been great.
“It’s all good man but I worry because that’s what worriers do. You can’t be a half-term worrier you have to put everything in.”

    NO BAD BLOOD

HEARN ON WHAT’S NEXT FOR WHYTE
“I’d like to see him box quickly again in the summer, maybe go over to the States and have a fight over there,” the promoter said.
“We called for the Deontay Wilder fight for a long, long time. [Wilder] actually DM’d Dillian Whyte and said I will never, ever give you that fight.
“And now he got knocked out and he’s calling for the fight with Dillian Whyte.
“For me that’s a stadium fight, that’s a colossal fight. I’d like to get him back out quickly, maybe to the States for a big fight.
“The ultimate aim for Dillian Whyte has always been to challenge for the world heavyweight title.
“Everyone knows in boxing, he’s a handful for anyone in the division.
“Tonight was about getting his career back on track, getting the title ambition back on track, coming back from that KO.
“Now we regroup, we go again and the aim remains the same for Dillian Whyte to get a shot at a world heavyweight title.
“He’ll stay active. He loves to train, he loves to fight, he doesn’t want to rest, he wants to get out and fight.
“If that involves getting out quickly in the summer we’ve got to plan accordingly.”
    POVETKIN DONE?
Will Povetkin retire after that pummeling last night?
The Russian is 41 now and has been in some real hard fights over the last few years.
He is further away from another world title shot than he was 12 months ago, so what else does he have left to achieve?
Let’s remember, he won Olympic gold in 2004. 2004!
    Credit: Mark Robinson Matchroom Boxing
    WILDER, RUIZ, BRYANT?
    What next for Whyte then?
Deontay Wilder and Andy Ruiz are big names being talked about. Whyte also mentioned that he would like to fight Trevor Bryant for the WBA regular title.
That’s the same belt David Haye won back in the day. Would we like to see that?
    WHYTE FLAG
Dillian waved the Whyte flag after KOing Alexander Povetkin – by grabbing a stool for his defeated opponent in a classy gesture.
Povetkin – whose only two previous pro losses were to Wladimir Klitschko and Anthony Joshua – was getting treatment from his team standing in his corner.
But the Body Snatcher picked up a stool and brought it over for Povetkin to take a seat.
And then he poured water on the battered boxer to help cool him down.
The two fighters clearly had plenty of respect for one another afterwards as they embraced in the ring.

    RUMBLE ON THE ROCK
Listen to Dillian Whyte’s post-fight comments!

    REVENGE
What a performance from Dillian Whyte!

    WHAT’S NEXT?
Promoter Eddie Hearn has given his thoughts on where Dillian Whyte’s next fight will be.
And all signs point towards a colossal fight in America.
Hearn said: “Let’s go over to the States and have a fight there.
“We’ve called for the [Deontay] Wilder fight for a long time. He DM’d and said he’d never give you [Whyte] the fight.
“But he got knocked out and now wants it, that’s a stadium fight.
“The ultimate game for him [Whyte] is to challenge for the heavyweight world title.”
Could we see Wilder vs Whyte?

    TRILOGY?
Dillian Whyte gave his assessment on tonight’s thunderous win and has hinted at a third fight between the pair: “I’m sad it didn’t finish in the first round.
    “I could’ve finished him early.
“I’m willing to run it back again, if he wants the rematch? I’m annoyed, I shouldn’t have lost the first time.
“All I had to do was be a bit smarter.
“I believe I can beat anybody. I t was a bit of an annoying camp, due to the reschedule.
“I changed up my nutrition. He had to pay tonight, man.”
    AND NEW!
Dillian Whyte gets his redemption and wins back the belt he felt he should never have lost.
Whyte is WBC interim world heavyweight champion once again!
from summer shock to spring clean up – Whyte’s back on top!
    WHYTE VS POVETKIN: WHYTE WINS
    WOW!
Now that’s what you call a main event!
Whyte sent Povetkin stumbling backwards with a straight jab – the Russian bounced back off the ropes and right back into the path of a man on a mission.
The Brit hit the Russian with a wonderful left and right hook combination.
And then charged up his powerful left hook and knocked Povetkin out!
He’s not called The Body Snatcher for nothing!
    AND IT’S ALL OVER!
WHYTE GETS IT ALL RIGHT AND HE KNOCKS POVETKIN OUT!
    WHAT A PERFORMANCE FROM WHYTE!
    ROUND 4: WHYTE VS POVETKIN
Whyte gets off to a thunderous start in round four and unloads some heavy right hooks!
Povetkin looks hurt – but we’ve seen it all before.
The Russian has the ability to pull a win from nothing. The last fight between the two is a prime example of that.
Whyte is getting some joy with the straight jab.
Both fighters are going for the knockout.
    ROUND 3: WHYTE VS POVETKIN
Povetkin comes out fighting, he’s trying to get as close to Whyte as possible to land some heavy body shots.
Whyte has a slight wobble but is quickly back to his feet.
The Brit then lands a stiff shot to Povetkin’s body and the Russian is feeling the effects.
Whyte is trying to keep his distance whilst using his reach advantage.
    ROUND 2: WHYTE VS POVETKIN
Povetkin steps in and Whyte sends the Russian stumbling again. Whyte looks switched on.
He can’t afford to let his concentration slip this time, he needs to finish the job!
Povetkin lands a nice combination to push Whyte towards the ropes, but the Brit responds with some shots of his own.
Whyte is leading his his left hand, looking to connect a couple shots to Povetkin’s body.
The pair are trading punches in the middle of the ring.
    ROUND 1: WHYTE VS POVETKIN
Here we go. Twelve rounds of boxing!
Whyte has Povetkin STUMBLING across the ring after a series of wild swings! What a start by the Brit!
Povetkin manages to regain his composure and the pair are facing off in the middle of the ring.
Whyte lands another strong right hand – Povetkin has started very slow.
    TALE OF THE TAPE
Here’s how both fighters shape up!

    WHYTE VS POVETKIN
Whilst Sky follow Dillian Whyte with their cameras from his locker room, the crowd inside the Europa Point Sports Complex are singing their hearts out to Kings of Leon!
Here’s Whyte! He’s pumped up and looks ready to go. Revenge is very much on his mind.
David Diamante then welcomes WBC interim world heavyweight champion, Alexander Povetkin.
    It’s main event time!
    RUMBLE ON THE ROCK
Here’s what both fighters had to say ahead of tonight’s fight.
Whyte says Povetkin – who had been dropped twice – was about to be pulled out by his corner before his miracle punch last summer in their first fight, but Povetkin says this wasn’t the case.
Whyte said: “I lost to him but he was done – they were saying ‘we are pulling you out at the end of this round.
“They know him better than me. It’s hard for me to say what they were thinking, but don’t worry, I’ll try and help their hand this time. I definitely want to knock him out, one hundred percent.
Povetkin replied: “There was no such conversation in the corner [to stop the fight last time round].
“The people who know me know that I fight until the end. You can’t throw the towel in until the referee stops the fight.”
