Real Madrid 3-1 Liverpool LIVE RESULT: Vinicius Jr double secures impressive Champions League win for Zidane’s men

LIVERPOOL have it all to do at an empty Anfield after being beaten 3-1 in Madrid in the Champions League.Vinicius Jr fired the hosts ahead after a brilliant 50-yard pass over the Reds defence from Toni Kroos.
And Marco Asensio then tapped home a simple second as Jurgen Klopp’s defence fell apart.
Mo Salah netted to get the Reds back in the tie after a disastrous first half, but Vinicius Jr then bagged his second of the night as he fired through Alisson’s arms.
    THAT’S ALL FROM MADRID
Liverpool have it all to do at Anfield if they are to lift the European Cup for a seventh time next month.
A 3-1 first leg defeat in Spain was the least they deserved on a night where they rarely troubled the Spanish champions.
Mo Salah’s away goal – their only shot on target – does offer hope of another memorable comeback, but without a crowd on the Kop next Wednesday, the Liverpool players will need to look elsewhere for inspiration.
Madrid, on the other hand, were impressive despite some key personnel missing, and in two-goal Vinicius Junior, they may just have the latest Brazilian hotshot in their ranks.
We’ll be back with more Champions League quarter-final action tomorrow as Porto face Chelsea and Bayern host PSG.
Until then, thanks for reading and goodnight.

    KLOPP REACTION
Always honest, always emotional, Jurgen Klopp is another who is clearly exasperated and hurting by Liverpool’s performance in Madrid. The German coach believes his players did not do enough to earn a more positive result but there’s still the hope that they can turn it around next Wednesday.
If you want to go to the semi-finals, you have to earn the right to do so. We didn’t do that tonight, especially in the first half. The only good thing is it’s only the first half of the tie. We just didn’t play good enough football tonight to cause Real Madrid more problems. I wasn’t happy with the way we played when we were in possession. We made it too easy for them.Jurgen KloppBT Sport
    DEFEAT TOUGH FOR WIJN
Liverpool’s captain this evening, Georginio Wijnaldum, has expressed his disappointment in his post-match interview. The Dutch midfielder admits that his side were below-par in the first half, and, while they improved in the second, it will be a big task to turn the tie around.
It was difficult as they are a good side. The first half was not good. We lost the ball too quickly, and in the two moments where we did not concentrate enough, they scored. We said in the second half that we had to play well and not lose the ball. We had to defend better at the back. The away goal gives us confidence, but we have to score in the second leg and not concede.Georginio WijnaldumBT Sport
    FULL TIME STATS
Liverpool improved in the second half and registered seven shots on goal, although that tally was still less than half of the 15 that Madrid managed.
The Reds’ only attempt on goal ended up in the back of the net.

    CAPTAIN’S PRIDE
The injured Sergio Ramos watched on from the stands this evening, and has taken to social media to express his delight at his side’s performance.
The Real Madrid defender must have been particularly impressed with the stand-in centre-back pairing of Eder Militao and Nacho.

    A REAL BOGEY TEAM
Madrid are becoming a major annoyance for Liverpool, and it’s now four straight to defeats at the hands of the Spanish giants in European competition.
Should it become five at Anfield next Wednesday then the Reds’ hope for a seventh Champions League title will be over for the season.
4 – Across all European competitions, no side have beaten Liverpool more often than Real Madrid (4, level with Benfica), with the Reds suffering defeat in each of their last four encounters with los Blancos. Overawed. pic.twitter.com/Y2dfIYHGJh— OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) April 6, 2021

    FT: REAL MADRID 3-1 LIVERPOOL
It’s advantage Real Madrid after the first leg in Spain. Liverpool were better in the second period, but were unable to build on Mohamed Salah’s goal shortly after the restart. Vinicius Junior added his second and Real’s third soon after, and head to Anfield with a two-goal lead. It will be a big ask for Jurgen Klopp’s men.
PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!THE FINAL WHISTLE GOES IN SPAIN!
    REAL MADRID 3-1 LIVERPOOL
90+4. Firmino tries to work some space to spark one final attack, but he’s caught out by – who else? – Casemiro.
    REAL MADRID 3-1 LIVERPOOL
90+2. Real look as though they’ve done their attacking for the evening, and are now intent on ensuring Liverpool don’t find a second away goal.
Salah tries to conjure something special on the turn outside the box, but the Egyptian can’t get a shot beyond Nacho.
    Madrid’s stand-in centre-backs have been excellent.
    REAL MADRID 3-1 LIVERPOOL
    90. The fourth official’s board goes up to show four minutes of stoppage time.
These could be a huge four minutes in the tie.
    REAL MADRID 3-1 LIVERPOOL
    89. Liverpool win a late corner, and there could yet be some hope.
Alexander-Arnold swings it in towards Phillips, but Eder Militao is more than a match for his English counterpart and thumps a brilliant header clear.
    REAL MADRID 3-1 LIVERPOOL
    87. Mane goes down just outside the penalty area, but there’s no whistle. That one did look a foul on first viewing.
Liverpool have had little off the officials this evening.
    REAL MADRID 3-1 LIVERPOOL
    85. Vinicius Junior’s work is done for the evening. The Brazilian takes leave having netted his first brace for Madrid, and is replaced by Rodrygo.
    REAL MADRID 3-1 LIVERPOOL
    83. Alexander-Arnold is booked for unleashing a verbal volley at the linesman.
The right-back took exception to being penalised for a nothing challenge on Vinicius Junior, that had Madrid’s two-goal hero acting up.
    REAL MADRID 3-1 LIVERPOOL
    82. Jurgen Klopp makes a double change for the final ten minutes or so. In come Roberto Firmino and Xherdan Shaqiri in place of Diogo Jota and Ozan Kabak.
    REAL MADRID 3-1 LIVERPOOL
    81. Liverpool eventually do win the ball back after a Real Madrid spell of “at least 50 passes,” according to Steve McManaman.
Liverpool’s spell, on the other hand, lasts just one misplaced pass before the home side take charge again.
    REAL MADRID 3-1 LIVERPOOL
    80. They still haven’t touched it.
    REAL MADRID 3-1 LIVERPOOL
    79. Zinedine Zidane watches on from the touchline as his players enjoy a spell of keep ball. I can’t actually remember the last time Liverpool were in possession.

    REAL MADRID 3-1 LIVERPOOL
    77. Thiago takes aim from long range, but it’s high, wide and heading for the Bernabeu.
    REAL MADRID 3-1 LIVERPOOL
    76. Casemiro mops up in midfield again. The Brazilian has gone about his business quietly and incredibly effectively this evening.
    REAL MADRID 3-1 LIVERPOOL
    74. That third Real Madrid goal has restored the home side’s control of the game. Gone is the attacking intensity that Liverpool had shown after half-time.
    REAL MADRID 3-1 LIVERPOOL
    71. A first change for Madrid as Federico Valverde takes over from Marco Asensio.
    REAL MADRID 3-1 LIVERPOOL
    70. Jurgen Klopp charges down the touchline to intervene as Alexander-Arnold’s frustrations bubble over. The right-back squares up to Vinicius Junior after taking exception to a tackle.

Man Utd ‘have the funds’ for £150m Haaland, ‘everything but price’ agreed for Jadon Sancho transfer

BORUSSIA DORTMUND have admitted that they are willing to sell Jadon Sancho for the right price this summer. And it has also been reported that Man Utd have the funds to sign Erling Haaland from the German side, if they are willing to deal with agent Mino Raiola.

FREE BETS: GET OVER £2,000 IN SIGN UP OFFERS HERE

Stay up to date with our blog, below, for all the latest from Old Trafford…
    THE PRICE IS WRONG
Manchester United are closing in on Jadon Sancho, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
However, the Red Devils have yet to agree a free with Borussia Dortmund.
Romano told the Here We Go podcast: “Manchester United have everything set to sign Jadon Sancho this summer – they are just waiting for the final price.”

    FATHER TALK
Charlie Savage hopes to go one better than his old man — and make the grade at Manchester United.
But the 17-year-old midfielder says Scott McTominay, not his dad Robbie, is the main inspiration behind his goal to reach the Old Trafford first team.
He told SunSport: “The main inspiration for me is Scott — he’s the best with us. He comes over to talk to us. He had it difficult in the youth team.
“He didn’t play many matches but he just kept going and he proved it’s not always the standout players who make the first team.
“Sometimes it’s the players who might have had a back seat but they keep pushing and pushing.
“Scott, Marcus Rashford and also Brandon Williams all inspire us to improve and move forward.”
    HAAL OF FAME
Manchester United are one of the clubs that can afford to sign Erling Haaland, according to reports.
Dortmund are said to be looking for an offer of around £150m to part company with the Norwegian this summer – and The Athletic claim that fee would be in the Red Devils’ price range.
However, whether the deal can be pushed over the line or not depends on how willing United are to go back into business with Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola.
Raiola has exasperated senior figures at Old Trafford by claiming Paul Pogba wants to leave on numerous occasions.

    WILL I NEVER
Southampton would like to revisit a loan move for Manchester United whizkid Brandon Williams.
Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl wants more depth in the full-back areas and likes Williams’ ability to play both on the left and right.
Hasenhuttl tried to borrow Williams, 20, from United in January but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refused to let him go.
Southampton are hopeful Solskjaer will reconsider his stance for next season though, with Williams starting just three games this term.

    DAVID DE GOER
David de Gea is reportedly set for a summer axe – and has been offered to Europe’s elite.
The Manchester United goalkeeper, 30, continues to battle for his place in the team with Dean Henderson.
Henderson started his seventh game in a row against Brighton on Sunday.
And it is thought De Gea has had enough with the Spaniard ready to look elsewhere for a new club.
According to the Daily Mail, the goalkeeper’s representatives are in touch with some of the top clubs on the continent to sound out potential suitors.
    CAPTAIN MARVEL
Harry Maguire made it a century of games in a United shirt against Brighton.

    STICKER SOCCER GLORY
A footie-mad dad has finally got his huge sticker album collection up to date — with a 1998 World Cup England badge.
Simon Livermore, 45, paid £11.41 in an online bidding war for the elusive crest.
He has now completed every World Cup and Euros album produced by Panini since 1974.
And he is already busy filling in his Euro 2020 sticker album.
Brighton and Hove Albion fan Simon said: “Half the fun is the hunt. I’ve needed two for France 98 for absolutely forever but the badges, the foils, are particularly hard to come across.
“I was always led to believe there was equal numbers printed, But I swear it’s not the case.”

    GARD AGAINST
West Ham will reportedly do whatever it takes to try and sign Jesse Lingard from Manchester United permanently this summer.
The England star has rediscovered his top form on loan at the Hammers as he scored six goals in eight league games.
A senior West Ham source told Sky Sports: “We will do whatever it takes to sign him.
    “He’s been outstanding for us.”
    DOR OPEN
An update from transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Manchester United target Jadon Sancho.
Borussia Dortmund CEO Watzke to Dazn: “We will talk to Haaland. We want him to be happy to stay at BVB next year. There is no alternative plan. We’ll have to speak to Sancho too. If there’s an exceptional offer, we will discuss it with the player & agent as always”. 🟡 @BVBBuzz— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) April 5, 2021

    GARNER INTEREST
Nottingham Forest manager Chris Hughton is refusing to speculate on the long-term future of Manchester United loanee James Garner.
He told NottinghamshireLive: “At this moment, my thoughts are very much on what he’s giving us and how he’s helping us in the best way he can.
“It’s also about us helping his development and us having the best relationship with Manchester United we can.
“And then we’ll see what happens.
“He’s not our player, so it’s very difficult to talk about him in any terms.
“All I can say is the relationship with United has been very good and we’re delighted with what James is giving us.”

    BYE-BAI
Manchester United are reportedly interested in defensive reinforcements this summer if Eric Bailly leaves the club.
Eurosport claim Inter Milan are keeping tabs on the Ivorian’s contract situation, who has just over a year remaining on his deal.
The report adds that Sevilla’s Jules Kounde and Villarreal’s Pau Torres are United’s main targets should Bailly leave.
    DOR OPEN
Manchester United will be hoping their good deed will be rewarded after letting Borussia Dortmund use their facilities ahead of a crunch Champions League encounter.
Erling Haaland and Co have trained on United’s old The Cliff complex ahead of their tie with neighbours Man City this evening.
Located in Salford, the United first-team haven’t trained at The Cliff since moving to Carrington in 2000.
But the facilities are still used for some academy games while the women’s team also train there.

    LIN-CREDIBLE
Jesse Lingard is leading the Premier League charts since arriving at West Ham on loan.
After failing to find a place in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United, the 28-year-old has rediscovered his best form with the Hammers under David Moyes this season.

    DEVIL MAY CARE
Former Manchester United star Terry Gibson has warned the Reds of the dangers of taking Granada lightly.
He told the club’s website: “United can’t afford to take them lightly.
“They’re going to play like an away team at home. They’ll look to play on the counter-attack, which they’re good at.
“They’re a fluent team who change tactics a lot but they won’t be as naive as Real Sociedad were; they won’t open up and allow themselves to be hit on the counter-attack.
“They’ll look to keep it nice and tight and hope to be in the tie for the second leg.
“It’s a dream tie for Granada, it’s clearly the biggest game in the history of the club.
“This is their second season back in La Liga. They were kind of like a Sheffield United last season in that they were a massive surprise.”
    ANT MAN
Anthony Elanga has been added to Manchester United’s squad for the Europa League first-leg against Granada.

    BELE FLOP
Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman has confirmed that he would like Ousmane Dembele to STAY at the club, amid links with Man United.
Following the Frenchman’s late winner against Real Valladolid last night, Koeman said: “I would like Dembele to stay, he is an important player for us.
“He showed his quality with his game and the goal against Valladolid. The key is that he has physically improved and has been able to play a lot of games in a row.”
    DUBLIN AND OUT
England looks set to be handed at least four more Euro 2020 games – with Uefa braced for Dublin to effectively pull out of hosting on Wednesday.
And that would hand Gareth Southgate and his Three Lions the prospect of an extra match on home soil this summer, although NOT at Wembley.
Uefa’s deadline for the 12 scheduled venues to confirm they are able to stage games with crowds is close of business on Wednesday.
The Irish capital is believed by senior Uefa figures to be the most likely city to be unable to give Euro chiefs the guarantees they have sought, leaving the Aviva set to be stripped of its games.
And if so, it is now expected that the four games due to be played in Ireland will be switched to England, as the FA is already in advanced planning for seven games at Wembley.
    THE TEMP-BEST
Jesse Lingard is proving to be one of the signings of the season.
His loan switch to West Ham was a masterstroke from David Moyes, who is getting the very best out of the Manchester United midfielder.
The red-hot form got the 28-year-old a return to the England squad and could see him go to the Euros.
SunSport looks at some of the best loan signings in the Premier League era – an elite list Lingard is on course to join, particularly if he can fire West Ham into the Champions League HERE.

    JESS WHAT THE DOCTOR ORDERED
    By SunSport’s Jordan Davies
Jesse Lingard is leading the Premier League charts since arriving at West Ham on loan.
Since his West Ham debut on February 3 after a January window switch, only Tottenham’s Harry Kane has been involved in the same number of goal involvements.
Lingard’s six goals and three assists in eight appearances sees him with nine goal involvements.
That’s THREE more than United star Bruno Fernandes, as well as bettering Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus, Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez.
Only Harry Kane has scored more with seven, but has one less assist than Lingard in that time.
In terms of assists, Lingard’s three assists is the same as City’s Phil Foden and Tottenham’s Lucas Moura and Heung-Min Son.
Lingard is also proving to be efficient in front of goal, needing just 23 shots to reach nine goal involvements.
That is SEVENTEEN less than Kane, two less than Leeds’ Patrick Bamford and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and one less than Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.

    GRASS IS GREENER
Mason Greenwood bagged a crucial goal for Man United on Sunday, to net the three points against Brighton at Old Trafford.
And the teenager has already been impressing for years, despite still being relatively new to the first-team set up.
    Check this out, United fans!

    WELL I NEV-ER
Gary Neville admitted he would have played for arch-rivals Arsenal if Manchester United decided to sell him.
He told Sky Sports’ Off the Script: “If you’d said to me, in a perfect world, in my years of playing, which clubs in the Premier League have the tradition, a proper club? Arsenal would be No 1.
“The tradition of Highbury, I felt they did things the right way. Also in the Premier League, I like Aston Villa and Newcastle.
“In Europe I admired Juventus and Bayern Munich. I respected them as football clubs. Bayern were meticulous in their preparation, so internationally, it would be them.”
Gary Neville would have been open to the idea of joining Arsenal if he was let go by Manchester United earlier in his career
    LIGT-BULB MOMENT
Matthijs de Ligt will be available for £130million next summer, according to reports.
The Juventus defender, 21, is thought to have a release clause in his contract.
But according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, it does not kick in until July 2022.
And that could have the likes of Manchester United and Barcelona on red alert to make a major swoop at the end of next season.
Matthijs de Ligt could be bought for £130million next summer when his release clause kicks in
    HOME DISCOMFORTS
Bruno Fernandes has issued a rallying cry to his Manchester United team-mates to ‘stop dropping as many points as we do at home’.
The Portuguese playmaker has been instrumental in helping United into second spot in the Premier League.
Speaking to FourFourTwo magazine, the 26-year-old said: “It’s tough in England, because the games are so tight.
“Every team genuinely has a chance to win the match. It’s 50/50 before every game, and we see it with the results. But we’re doing better.
“We can’t drop as many points as we do at home, but we’ve been in second, and at the start of the season there weren’t many people who were saying United would be second.
“After a few games and a bad start, nobody was saying United could reach the top of the table, but we ignored what people were saying on the outside.
“We knew what we had said on the inside, we had confidence that things would improve, and they did.
“We still have to be the best United we can, but we have improved.”
Bruno Fernandes gave an honest interview with FourFourTwo magazine
    POSITIVE MATA
Manchester United star Juan Mata opened up on his relationship with ‘positive’ manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Spaniard told the UTD Podcast: “Of course, I heard much about him as a player. About that goal, about the many goals. So we had a meeting between us, the team, and they said: ‘Listen, it’s probable that Ole’s going to come. He’s going to take care of the team until the end of the season. He’s coming from Molde in Norway.’
“As soon as he came in, you could see the positivity. You could see the Manchester United DNA. He knew everyone, he felt like a proper United fan, and he was happy and smiley and full of energy. Until today. So we stay with him, and I think that’s a good sign of things going okay.
“I feel young, honestly, in my body and in my mind, but obviously I’ve been playing in the club, and in English football and professionally for 12-13 years now, and so that gives me experience to – especially in difficult situations – behave in a certain way or give advice to the youngsters or something like that, and I think he values that also.
“Me, as a player, what I can give on the pitch, but also that I will try my best off the pitch for the new players that come.”

    MATA ON LVG
Juan Mata has revealed that former boss Louis van Gaal was ‘scary’.
He told the UTD Podcast: “He was scary! He was scary, I tell you! He was a very nice man, very genuine. Very sensible. You wouldn’t expect that, but he was very sensible. He could even get emotional and cry sometimes when he was speaking about important matters that he found with the right values, or the right football… he got emotional.
“But I remember the first meeting we all had with him. It was in LA. We were doing a pre-season tour. So the manager said: ‘I want to meet you one by one in this room after dinner’. I was like ‘okay’.
“Everyone went, whatever. My turn. So I arrive to the room and it was him, Ryan Giggs, a bottle of Rioja, red wine, and three glasses.
“He said: ‘Do you want to have the drink?’ And I said, ‘No, no, it’s fine’. He said, ‘Okay, I’ll have it’. So he had the drink, and he said, ‘Tell me who you are?’
“I mean, ‘My name is Juan, I’m 26, I play football’. ‘No, no, no. Tell me who you are as a man. Do you have family? What do you find important in life?’
“I remember he had like paper, where he had set up the tactics for the team and that year, and he was like ‘Where do you think you will fit best here?’ I was like ‘here’ and he said ‘No’. ‘Here?’ ‘No.’
“So we had trained that pre-season with five in the back, two [in midfield], one No10, and he put me in that No10 and he said ‘You’re going to play here’ and I was like ‘Great’. I didn’t want to put it myself!
“And from that moment, you realised: he can look scary in the face-to-face, because also he goes too close to you. But after that, he’s a very warm and genuine man. Ryan Giggs was there trying to hold his laugh!”
Mata enjoyed his time working under the eccentric figure of Louis van Gaal, who was keen to revolve the team around the Spanish playmaker

Man City 2-1 Dortmund LIVE RESULT: Foden nets last gasp winner after Bellingham goal is bizarrely ruled out

MAN CITY have beaten Borussia Dortmund but the Germans have every right to feel aggrieved.Jude Bellingham was bizarrely adjudged to have fouled Ederson when he dispossessed the Brazilian and fired into an empty net.
And VAR was unable to review the decision as referee Ovidiu Hategan blew his whistle before the goal was scored.
Early on, Kevin de Bruyne struck early to give City the lead but Marco Reus thought he had earned Borussia a crucial draw.
However, Phil Foden’s goal in stoppage time has given Pep Guardiola’s men the advantage.
    THAT’S A WRAP
Thanks for joining us this evening.
Here’s some bedtime reading, our match report, courtesy of Martin Blackburn.
    HEY JUDE
Speaking on BT Sport, 17-year-old Jude Bellingham seemed wise beyond his years both on and off the field.
The youngster said: “We frustrated them well when they had the ball, I think they found us hard to break down- it was a great finish from us.
“”We’re disappointed to have conceded so late, but we played well.
“I’m knackered now! They really are a brilliant team.”
Speaking about his goal that wasn’t given, Bellingham added: “I feel I won the ball fairly and it’s unfair that with all the cameras
“But it’s football, it’s life. We have to get on with it.
“All I got told was I was booked and they got a freekick- I felt it should have been checked.”
    PEP TALK
Speaking at full-time, Pep Guardiola said: “It’s better to have a won than to draw- but we had 90 minutes to do it.
“We need to go there to win the game after this.
“We were not clever with the ball in the first half, the second half was much better and we had plenty of chances to get our second goal.
“We need to make a good build up to score, but today that was not good.
“It’s normal, as Dortmund were strong and good quality- their players have pace and real quality up front. “We are going to watch the game, now we know what they do, and we’ll go to Germany to win.
“We’ve won the last 27 out of 28 and then we need to play Leeds before going to Germany to beat them.”
    STAT ATTACK
City took the lead in the dying minutes, but managed five shots on target this evening, compared to Dortmund’s three.
Guardiola’s side enjoyed the lion’s share of possession and crossed five times more balls into the box that Dortmund.

    DE BRUYNE SPEAKS
Speaking on BT Sport, City’s captain said: “We knew the way they would play- they play well with the ball and they caused us some problems.
“I think we created good chances in the second half, we probably should have scored more.
“But when they drew 1-1 our reaction to that was good.
“It’s a shame to get the goal, but it happens and our reaction was good- we have to prepare for Saturday.”On how his team will recover for their fixture with Leeds before their second leg against Dortmund, he added: “I think with the way this season’s been, we’ve had no mid-week off, it’s been an incredible run of games.
“The team have responded incredibly well this year, we are privileged that we can compete for every trophy.”
    SHOW STOPPPER
You really can’t think it’s a job done when playing City.

It was all level until City delivered this…

    MANCHESTER CITY 2-1 BORUSSIA DORTMUND
    89. De Bruyne sends another incredible pass from the right wing to the left post to Gundogan.
A touch from Gundogan with his left foot brings it under control for Foden who’s then able to tap it home into the far corner.
It’s his fifth Champions League goal.
    GOOOOOAL

      MANCHESTER CITY 1-1 BORUSSIA DORTMUND
Calm finish from Reus in what was his first goal in 16 Champions League games.
    How will City respond?

      MANCHESTER CITY 1-1 BORUSSIA DORTMUND
    82. Bellingham picks out Haaland at the top of the box but he bats it on with his first touch to pick out Reus on the left of the box.
Dortmund’s captain slots it to the bottom right-hand corner, far enough away from Ederson’s finger tips to bring the score line level.
They’ve deserved a goal this evening, but I thought this would come earlier, they’ve looked tired in the last few minutes.
    GOOOOOAL
    IT’S ONE APIECE!!
     MANCHESTER CITY 1-0 BORUSSIA DORTMUND

    TUCH AND THIAGO
Thomas Tuchel faces a nasty back ache for Chelsea’s Champions League quarter-final with Porto – after Thiago Silva saw red in the manager’s first defeat with the Blues.
Here’s how the Blues could line-up…

    ANT MAN
Anthony Elanga has been added to Manchester United’s squad for the Europa League first-leg against Granada.

    MORE FROM TUCHEL
He added: “We got a big slap in the face, and it was required to remind us how tough it is to keep winning.
“I have the feeling we can overcome Porto but it will be tough. They are very experienced, but we are strong enough and believe in ourselves.”
    CHIL OUT BEN
Thomas Tuchel has admitted the training ground bust-up between Antonio Rudiger and Kepa Arrizabalaga was ‘serious’.
The Blues gaffer said: “We calmed the situation immediately.
“They can happen because everyone is competitive in training.
“They cleared the air and there was nothing left afterwards. They solved it in an honest and humble way.
“For this situation, there will be no punishment.”
    WHOLE LOTTA DOUGH
An American billionaire has dropped a huge hint he is considering buying Newcastle.
James Pallotta, the former owner of Roma, revealed how his next business move could be in the Premier League.
Speaking to the Athletic, Pallotta name-dropped the Toon for his next potential project and highlighted their ‘great fanbase’.
He said: “I do think that if there’s a place that makes sense for me, it’s the Premier League.
“It’s pretty difficult for an American — and I do think we actually did a lot of good stuff — but I do think it’s difficult in a lot of countries to deal with the cultural stuff, all kinds of stuff. There are just all kinds of variables.
“I think there are interesting teams in the Premier League that have great history and it would be nice to see them getting back to it. The Newcastles of the world. Great, great fanbase.
“Those are the kind of things I think would be interesting to be a part of with a good group (of investors) and there’s more rationality there (at league level) in many ways, right?”

    HITTING BACK
An explosive response from Valencia to the public denial made by Juan Cala.

    CLAS ACTION
Lionel Messi feared he would be banned for El Clasico during Barcelona’s tense win over Valladolid.
The Catalans’ LaLiga title pursuit was boosted by Ousmane Dembele’s late winner at the Camp Nou.
At half-time, Messi was overheard by Movistar+ microphones, as reported by Marca, complaining about the official.
The striker told a club delegate: “The referee wants to give me a yellow card, incredible.”
A booking would have incurred a one-game ban for the 33-year-old – a fate he managed to avoid for the rest of the game.

    RACISM ROW
Juan Cala has denied claims he racially abused Mouctar Diakhaby after a row erupted during Sunday’s LaLiga game between Cadiz and Valencia.
The Spaniard, 31, was accused of calling Diakhaby a ‘black s***’ before the Valencia players staged a walk-off.
On Tuesday, Cala held a press conference to strenuously deny the allegations, likening the situation to a ‘public lynching’.
He told reporters: “I don’t know if Diakhaby made it up, or misinterpreted it.
“I am in a state of shock. We are playing football without an audience. There are 20-25 cameras, microphones, players, referees… and nobody hears anything.
“There is no racism in Spanish football. What has been formed is a circus.
“Since Sunday my lawyer has been collecting the data to start legal action.
“I have received messages from all over with a lot of support, because I am being lynched right now.
“I don’t know what happened to the presumption of innocence. No one deserves this public lynching.
“I’m looking forward to settling this issue here and starting to prepare for the next game.”
Diakhaby complained to the referee, who did not hear the alleged comment
    COULD BE KIE
Arsenal endured a major blow in their defeat against Liverpool with a potentially serious injury to left-back Kieran Tierney.
But his absence could prove to be a blessing in disguise judging by the stats.
Arsenal’s record is actually better without Tierney despite impressing throughout his debut campaign in the Premier League.
According to Opta, they average 1.6 points per game without the left-back compared to 1.3 when he is in the side.
That includes three wins in seven matches and losing twice with a win percentage of 42.9 compared to 39.1.
Arsenal also average 1.4 goals per game without Tierney compared to 1.3 with.
But the most damning stat of all is Arsenal are conceding less goals when Tierney is sidelined with one goal against compared to 1.2.
Arsenal may be okay without Kieran Tierney after all
    WELL I NEV-ER
    PUSH THE BOAT OUT
Premier League clubs have been alerted to Jerome Boateng’s availability after Bayern Munich decided to let the defender go.
Out of contract in the summer, the defender will follow David Alaba in departing as a free agent.
The 32-year-old has made over 350 appearances for Bayern, winning the treble twice, since a 2011 move ended a flop spell at Manchester City.
But, according to German publication Kicker, Boateng’s exit has been rubber-stamped by Munich bosses.
And his entourage have already been informed of the decision to move him on.
Jerome Boateng is set to become a free agent at the end of the season
    LIGT-BULB MOMENT
Matthijs de Ligt will be available for £130million next summer, according to reports.
The Juventus defender, 21, is thought to have a release clause in his contract.
But according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, it does not kick in until July 2022.
And that could have the likes of Manchester United and Barcelona on red alert to make a major swoop at the end of next season.
Matthijs de Ligt could be bought for £130million next summer when his release clause kicks in

Speaking to The Guardian, the German boss said: “When you talk about Guendouzi and see his skills, you realise that he is a great player.
“I’ve also read that he had problems at Arsenal but here he behaves very well. He puts all of himself on the field. He is a great professional.
“Guendouzi’s situation confirms that we must always understand how to help the players, with a talent like him it is worth it.”

    RAPH RIDE
Raphael Varane has tested positive for coronavirus hours before Real Madrid face Liverpool.
The Los Blancos players were checked on Tuesday morning ahead of tonight’s clash.
And the club confirmed in a statement the result for their Frenchman.
He will now be forced to sit out of the first-leg quarter-final clash at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano.
It also puts his availability to face Barcelona in a crunch El Clasico on Saturday night into major doubt.
Raphael Varane will miss the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool with coronavirus
    SAND SKIRMISH
Sheffield United star Sander Berge is reportedly being eyed by Manchester City.
A swift return to the Premier League once the Blades’ likely relegation is confirmed could take place for the midfielder, with Liverpool also keen.
According to Belgian outlet Voetbal24, City have made Berge their top target to replace Fernandinho this summer.
The 35-year-old Brazilian is set to leave once his contract expires at the end of the campaign.
Any deal for Berge, 23, would reportedly land old club Genk a 20 per cent cut of the fee after he left the club to sign for United in January of last year.
Liverpool are also said to be chasing the 6ft 5in midfielder with Georginio Wijnaldum on his way out.
Sander Berge is reportedly wanted by a number of clubs for a summer switch

    DON’T NEED JU
Juventus are reportedly considering a huge top-to-bottom overhaul if they fail to reach next season’s Champions League.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Andrea Pirlo and several other key figures could depart if the Old Lady’s financial situation worsens.
Talks over a fresh wage deferral are underway, according to Corriere dello Sport, to minimise the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
The measure would see at least a portion of the squad’s pay for the period from March to June postponed to later in the year, saving up to £76million.
Such an agreement was necessary last year when Giorgio Chiellini and Gianluigi Buffon were said to have played a key role in dressing room talks.
But fresh deferrals may not be enough if Juve finish outside the top four.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Andrea Pirlo are both fighting for their future at Juventus
    COUT OUT
Philippe Coutinho’s Barcelona nightmare lives on after being ruled out for the rest of the season.
The Brazilian, 28, has gone a second operation after having a ‘meniscal cyst’ in his left knee.
Coutinho hasn’t featured since late December after picking up an injury to his knee following a 1-1 draw with Eibar.
He went into surgery in the New Year and was set to be sidelined for at least three months.
Boss Ronald Koeman was hoping to have the playmaker back for the crucial run-in but he has been hit with a serious setback.
Barcelona revealed how he has had to go back under the knife having failed to recover from the initial procedure.

    AL OKAY
Marcos Alonso claims the Chelsea training ground bust-up was GOOD and will happen again.
Defender Antonio Rudiger and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga had to be pulled apart after a ‘pushing and shoving match’ at Cobham on Easter Sunday.
But wing-back Alonso, 30, reckons the angry spat should be taken as a positive because of the desire within the squad.
And the Spaniard knows it will not be the last time players clash on the training pitch.
He told beIN SPORTS: “These are things that happen.
“It shows the level of competition that is in the team, the hunger we show even on the training ground and it is good for the team.
“Even before training finished it was all good. Nothing new, it has always happened.
“It will happen again. We have to take the positive and move on and get ready for the next game.”

    MATA OF FACTS
Juan Mata has opened up on David Moyes’ Manchester United departure in 2014.
He told the UTD Podcast: “I always feel bad when a manager has to go, because it means that you are not doing right, or you are not getting results. So it’s not a nice feeling. So unfortunately he had to go. But of course, I’m very thankful to him.
“What I remember the most about that season was in the last game. Ryan Giggs was our caretaker manager at that time, and we always do the ‘lap of honour’. You say ‘thank you’, ‘goodbye’ and ‘see you next season’.”
David Moyes deserved to be sacked after a poor set of results in charge at Manchester United, Juan Mata said

David Moyes deserved to be sacked after a poor set of results in charge at Manchester United, Juan Mata said
    RON THE WAY OUT?
Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman has confirmed that he would like Ousmane Dembele to STAY at the club, amid links with Man United.
Following the Frenchman’s late winner against Real Valladolid last night, Koeman said: “I would like Dembele to stay, he is an important player for us.
“He showed his quality with his game and the goal against Valladolid. The key is that he has physically improved and has been able to play a lot of games in a row.”

    LUK AT THAT
Jesse Lingard wowed fans yet again with another stunning performance for West Ham last night.
The England international got on the scoresheet as the Hammers beat Wolves 3-2 to climb back into the top four.
And former team-mate Romelu Lukaku was among those impressed!

    VAN THE MAN
What a lethal finisher Robin van Persie was.
Sit back and enjoy, Man United fans.

    DAVE DEPARTS?
David de Gea is reportedly set for a summer axe – and has been offered to Europe’s elite.
The Manchester United goalkeeper, 30, continues to battle for his place in the team with Dean Henderson.
Henderson started his seventh game in a row against Brighton on Sunday.
And it is thought De Gea has had enough with the Spaniard ready to look elsewhere for a new club.
According to the Daily Mail, the goalkeeper’s representatives are in touch with some of the top clubs on the continent to sound out potential suitors.
David de Gea could be on his way out of Old Trafford this summer
    ARE YOU MAG?
An injury to Manchester United star Harry Maguire would be a bigger blow to England than losing captain Harry Kane – according to Gary Neville.
He said on Sky Sports MNF: “”If you lose Harry Maguire that’s a big problem for Gareth Southgate. I think it’s his biggest problem.
“If you’re then left with John Stones as your other centre-back and you think you’ve got Stones and (Tyrone) Mings, Stones and (Conor) Coady, Stones and (Eric) Dier – I’m not having it.”
Asked by Carragher if a Maguire injury would be more devastating than one for Kane with his 34 international goals, Neville reckoned so.
He added: “Harry Kane’s the best player in the squad but in this particular squad if Gareth wants a back four in the squad and go for a 4-3-3 formation, the only chance of that is keeping Harry Maguire fit.
“You always have to think if one player gets injured where do I then go to. If Harry Kane gets injured you could go with Marcus Rashford, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Raheem Sterling as a false forward or Phil Foden.
“There are options England can still win games. But with Maguire the ability to go to a back four is lost and that’s why he’s got a three in the back of his mind.”

    LIN BUSINESS
West Ham boss David Moyes raved about Jesse Lingard’s performance, after the Man United loanee scored his latest goal against Wolves on Monday night.
Following the Hammers’ 3-2 win, which takes them back up to fourth, the Scot said: “I was telling him how well he has played.
“I’m probably a manager who doesn’t say that very often, but he deserved that after his performance.”

    ZLAT’S THAT
Ex-Man United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to sign a new contract that will take him into his 40s.
The Swede, 39, has defied his age with his heroics for AC Milan this season.
Ibrahimovic turns 40 on October 3 but shows of slowing down just yet.
He has 15 goals in 16 league appearances, firing the Rossoneri to second in the Serie A table, behind rivals Inter.
And according to Sky in Italy, a one-year extension is on the table which he is expected to sign and stay beyond this summer.
The report adds Ibrahimovic should pen the deal within the next seven to ten days.
Zlatan currently earns around £5.94million per season – or £114,000 per week.
And those wages are on course to remain the same into the 2020-21 season.

    MORNING MAN UTD FANS
David De Gea’s future is in doubt due to growing tensions with Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, according to reports.
The Norwegian decided to start Dean Henderson ahead of the Spaniard against Brighton.
De Gea would have expected a start after returning from paternity leave, and according to Manchester Evening News the pair’s relationship is becoming a problem.
The report suggests Solskjaer twice attempted to drop De Gea in favour of Henderson, firstly against West Brom in November and then against Chelsea in February.
On both occasions De Gea expressed his unhappiness with the decision and Solskjaer changed his mind.
A large number of Man Utd’s squad are said to think the England international should have replaced De Gea in December.
In transfers, Borussia Dortmund are determined to keep United target Erling Haaland this summer.
Club CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke told Goal: “We will discuss this with Erling, his father and his agent Mino Raiola.
“We also want him to be happy to stay with us, to score goals for BVB next year with conviction. There is no alternative plan.”
Elsewhere, Bruno Fernandes hailed Mason Greenwood for his winner against Brighton but warned the forward he cannot just care about goals.
The Portugal international also explained Greenwood may find things more difficult as his reputation increases. Despite that, Fernandes is confident Greenwood will improve his goalscoring form but emphasised that he must get his temperament right.
Fernandes told MUTV: “Everyone has to know that Mason is a young player and now everyone is starting to know how Mason is, it will become more and more difficult for him.
“It is normal. It is part of the development for him and he will learn from here so it doesn’t matter how many goals he scores; the most important thing for us is that he still helps the team and he is doing his best.
“It is important for us as a team, it doesn’t matter who scores. If Mason scores for us or not, it is important if he can do other jobs, recover balls, pressing, defend when we need it, make assists, create danger.
“So it is not important for him to score. He has to understand, he is such a young lad. Of course, every striker wants to score but, anyway, he will score more and more goals as the seasons pass.”
And finally Premier League Covid testers returned just one positive result over the past seven days – for the second week running.
The sole positive result came in the initial round of sampling between Monday and Thursday, from a total of 1,515 tests across the 20 clubs.
And fears of a potential spike when players returned from the international break appear to have abated after the second round of 1,149 tests between Friday and Sunday all came back clear.
    COULD LEAVE LIN
West Ham have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Atletico Madrid outcast Vitolo as a possible alternative to Man Utd loanee Jesse Lingard.
The Hammers were linked with a move to sign the 31-year-old forward in the winter transfer window, but opted instead to bring in Lingard on loan from Manchester United.
But with Lingard shining at the London Stadium, it remains to be seen whether his temporary stay will be turned into a permanent deal.
SunSport understands that due to Lingard’s surprising resurgence in form, United have doubled his asking price to £40million.
And should the Hammers be priced out of a move for the England international, they could reignite their interest in Vitolo, according to Fichajes. The news outlet states that Atletico have offered David Moyes’ side the chance to sign the Spanish star in the summer.
It has been claimed that the player could be available for just £8.5m having fallen dramatically down the pecking order under Diego Simeone. And they add that a deal could potentially be reached before the end of the campaign should West Ham look to bring him to England.

    ROOM WITH A VIEW
Manchester United shared alternative views of their comeback goals against Brighton.
Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood struck to deny relegation threatened Brighton a famous win after ex-Red Devil Danny Welbeck had given the Seagulls hope.

    LIONEL JESSE
Manchester United loanee Jesse Lingard scored ANOTHER goal for West Ham as the Hammers raced into a 2-0 lead at Wolves.
The England star picked up the ball near the half way line, ran the length of the half and fired it past Rui Patricio from just inside the penalty box.
    Goal of the season?

    CAV SOME OF THAT!
Mason Greenwood’s goal against Brighton reminded Ole Gunnar Solskjaer of Edinson Cavani’s against Southampton earlier in the season.
The youngster scored a header in the Red Devils’ 2-1 win and his manager said: “The world nowadays is so into stats, goals, assists and this and that, but the boy has played fantastic in the last two or three months.
“He’s really matured and come on. Today as well, taking the ball well, taking people on, he hits the post and one is just over the bar.
“If he keeps learning and improving he’ll score loads of goals. We know that. He’s a lethal finisher, but if he scores these type of goals that’ll add another dimension to his game.
“I’m very pleased for him to get the winner in the way he did, learning from Edinson, for example.
“He [Cavani] is one of those strikers and it reminded me of one of his goals he scored against Southampton.”

    TIDY THE MES
Jamie Carragher thinks Arsenal could have ‘another Ozil’ on their hands in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Gunners skipper, 31, has scored just once in his last six matches and was ineffectual in Saturday’s 3-0 thrashing by Liverpool.
Arsenal have only just got Mesut Ozil’s £350,000-a-week wages off the books after years of him being benched or frozen out of the first team.
And, speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carragher warned that Aubameyang could go the same way.
The former Liverpool defender said: “I think there will be a big worry at Arsenal and for Mikel Arteta that they may have another Mesut Ozil situation where they give someone a big contract at £300,000 or £350,000-a-week.
“Next season and in these coming months that will be going through the manager’s mind. Have we got another situation like that? Because what he is producing right now is nowhere near good enough considering how good a player he is and also what Arsenal have invested in him.”

    TIER FEARS
Kieran Tierney is set for a scan on his knee with Arsenal fearing the left back has suffered a ‘serious’ injury, according to reports.
The Scotland defender, 23, limped out of the 3-0 loss to Liverpool following an awkward clash with James Milner.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta admits they face an anxious wait to find out how serious Kieran Tierney’s injury is.
And the Daily Mail report Arsenal are concerned Tierney will now be ruled out for several weeks.
The top class full back is set for a scan with the club believed to be fearing the defender has suffered a ‘serious’ knee injury.
On Saturday Mikel Arteta said: “Kieran felt something in his knee. He was in pain so it looks like he will be injured but we don’t know how long for.”

    FULL TIME!
    Wolves 2 – 3 West Ham
West Ham complete their first ever top flight double over Wolves but they made hard work of it after racing into a 3-0 lead after 38 minutes.
Man of the match Jesse Lingard opened the scoring before Pablo Fornals and Jarrod Bowen made it three.
Dendoncker’s header made it 3-1 at half-time before Fabio Silva set up a nervy finish for the East Londoners.
But David Moyes’ men held on to go fourth while Wolves stay 14th.

    RAF AND READY
Arsenal reportedly want to bring Inter Milan star Achraf Hakimi to the Emirates should they sell Hector Bellerin at the end of the season.
The 22-year-old was linked with a move to North London last summer, but he opted to join the Serie A side from Real Madrid following his hugely-successful loan spell at Borussia Dortmund.
But Mikel Arteta’s side have retained their interest in the Morocco international, with club scouts still recommending they bring him to England.
Especially with Arsenal now understood to be on the lookout for a right-back with Hector Bellerin said to be wanted by both Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.
And, according to AS, Hakimi – who can also play as a right winger – is the FA Cup holders’ preferred replacement should they be able to flog him. Hakimi is understood to be available for around £42.5million with Inter looking to raise funds, and desperate not to sell star man Romelu Lukaku.
Real Madrid have first refusal on Hakimi, having inserted a buyback clause in his contract when they sold the player last year. But it remains unlikely that Los Blancos will bring him back to the Bernabeu as they look to make a move for Erling Haaland.

    ARS KICKING
Gary Neville blasted several Arsenal stars for their lack of effort against Liverpool on Saturday.
The former Man Utd right-back, in typical fashion, was not afraid of expressing his feelings in condemning the Gunners’ culprits, including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Martin Odegaard.
Neville said on Monday Night Football: “I was alarmed. We know where Arsenal are – in a transition under Mikel Arteta. But at half time on Saturday I was really uncomfortable with what I’d seen.
“But I have to say, coming out of Saturday – and we don’t know what goes on behind the scenes – there was a few of those players in the front part of the pitch – it looked like a little mafia.
“It looked like a little group of players who weren’t comfortable – like there was a disconnect between them and the manager. The manager looked like he’s had enough of them – he had that glazed eye look.”
And circling Lacazette, Auba, Odegaard, Nicolas Pepe, Dani Ceballos and Thomas Partey on his interactive screen, Neville added: “What was really different was the effort – or lack of it – of the front six.
“Odegaard a few times did try and put a bit of a press on but he was on his own. But the rest of them… I’d go as far to say they were a joke. I think Arteta will have come away from that game on Saturday thinking ‘It’s me or them’.”

    GOOOOAAALLL – SILVA!
    Wolves 2 – 3 West Ham
Surely it’s not going to happen again?
Great ball over the top from Neto plays Silva in down the right hand channel.
He controls it and smashes it back across Fabianski into the bottom left corner to give his side hope.

    UNITED STAND
Several WSL stars have thrown their support behind Birmingham Women over their dispute with the club’s board over work conditions.
First-team Blues players signed a letter sent to clubs’ chiefs voicing concerns over inadequate facilities, wages and medical support, according to The Telegraph.
And now WSL aces including Chelsea star Fran Kirby are making a stand in solidarity with Blues players.
Kirby, 27, whose brace helped Chelsea thrash Birmingham 6-0 on Sunday, was one of the first to stand up for her league rivals.
In a post shared with more than 100,000 of her Twitter followers, Kirby said: “It’s a shame in 2021 we still have women’s teams competing in the top league in England having to ask for help like this.
“We should all be given the chance to perform at the highest level we can, Birmingham Women we all stand with you.”

    KICK-OFF!
    Wolves 1 – 3 West Ham
The second half is off and underway at Molineux after a ‘blink-and-you’ll-miss-it’ first period.
David Moyes will be hoping his side can avoid a repeat of their last game when they were 3-1 up at half-time against Arsenal and drew 3-3.
    S-MART MOVE
Martin Odegaard would be tempted by a Liverpool move this summer, according to reports.
The 22-year-old Norwegian playmaker is on loan at Arsenal from Real Madrid until the summer.
The Gunners are still trying to sign him from the LaLiga giants on a permanent deal after his loan ends.
But reports in Spain say he could be tempted by Jurgen Klopp if an Arsenal move doesn’t materialise.
AS claim the Norwegian is comfortable in England and would consider a move to Merseyside. He has two more years on his Real Madrid contract.
Fans joked that Klopp was trying to ‘tap up’ Odegaard after Liverpool’s win at the Emirates. The Reds smashed Arsenal 3-0 on Saturday and Klopp and Odegaard had a warm embrace on the pitch afterwards.

    HALF-TIME!
    Wolves 1 – 3 West Ham
    What a breathtaking half.
The Hammers raced into a three goal lead inside 38 minutes thanks to Jesse Lingard, Pablo Fornals and Jarrod Bowen.
The latter had replaced an injured Michail Antonio and the East Londoners also had both their centre-backs booked.
And Dendoncker completed the rollercoaster half with a header to give Wolves hope on the stroke of half time.
All to play for and to think Gary Neville said this could be ‘unwatchable’ before the game.

What a first half! 😅A good start from the lads, but still work to be done! ✊#WOLWHU— West Ham United (@WestHam) April 5, 2021

    GOOOOOAAAAALLL – DENDONCKER!
    Wolves 1 – 3 West Ham
    44. What a game this is.
Traore ties Coufal in knots down the left hand side, whips a beautiful cross in from the byline and unmarked Dendoncker rises above everyone to head into the bottom left corner.
Surely not a second consecutive crumble from three goals up for the Hammers?

    GOOOOOOAAAAALLLLL – BOWEN!
    38. Wolves 0 – 3 West Ham
Just moments after replacing the injured Antonio, Jarrod Bowen smashes the Hammers into a 3-0 lead.
Jesse Lingard heavily involved again as he runs away from three Wolves players on half way.
He plays Bowen down the left channel and he blasts the ball low and hard in off the near post.
This is dreamland for the Hammers although they went three up against Arsenal last time out and drew so it’s not over yet…
He’s only been on the pitch three minutes! 🤯It’s absolutely brilliant play from @JesseLingard again. He draws in the defenders then plays a clever ball to Bowen, who unleashes a powerful strike into the net. Superb again, lads 👏#WOLWHU 0-3 (38)— West Ham United (@WestHam) April 5, 2021

    PAY GAP
David Luiz will have to take an Arsenal pay cut if he is going to stay at the Emirates beyond this summer.
The Brazilian defender is currently sidelined for a month after undergoing a minor knee operation on Sunday.
But his contract runs out at the end of the season and the club are reluctant to extend his deal on his current terms of £120,000-a-week.
Luiz, an £8million signing from Chelsea two years ago, has been Mikel Arteta’s most reliable central defender this season but turns 34 later this month.
No definite decision will be made on his future until the end of the season when the club knows if they will be playing in Europe next season.
But having already handed lucrative long-term deals to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Willian last summer, Arsenal do not want to tie themselves to another veteran on huge wages.

    GAEL FORCE
Gael Clichy believes his former Manchester City team-mate Sergio Aguero would be a ‘good fit’ at Arsenal when he departs the Etihad in the summer.
The 32-year-old striker is set to become a free agent at the end of the season when his contract expires, bringing an end to ten trophy-laden years with City.
He told Stadium Astro: “I could see him staying in the Premier League, because he will want to climb to third or second [in the all-time top goalscorers charts].
“He can get there, for sure.Does he want that? Ten years with Manchester City is enough, I think he will move where he can enjoy it a bit more.
“Can he see himself at another English club? That’s the question. He loves the sun. I would like to see him stay [in England] to get to second or third in goals, but I think he will move away from the Premier League.
“I think Arsenal is a good fit, in terms of style of play. They play nice football and they create opportunities, but I really doubt he would go there. I think he’ll go to Spain.”

    GOOOOOAAAALLLL – FORNALS!
    Wolves 0 – 2 West Ham
    14. Another fantastic goal from the rampant Hammers.
Jesse Lingard kept the ball from going out for a goal kick by the left corner flag, Arthur Masuaku was first to the loose ball and swept a first time left foot cross across the box to Pablo Fornals.
And the Spaniard swivelled and diverted the ball into the bottom right corner with the inside of his right foot from 15 yards.

    GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAALLLLL – LINGARD!!!!
    Wolves 0 – 1 West Ham
    6. WHAT A GOAL!
The England star picks up the ball near the half way line as the Hammers break with speed.
Antonio’s run draws the defenders away as Lingard zips from right to left, breaks into the penalty box and fires it back across the goal with his left into the far right corner.
What a start from the East Londoners. Who needs Declan Rice!

How good was that from JLingz?! He runs from 10 yards inside our own half and finishes superbly past Patricio to give us the lead! What a goal! 👏#WOLWHU 0-1 (6)— West Ham United (@WestHam) April 5, 2021

    KICK-OFF!
    Wolves 0 – 0 West Ham
And the teams are off and underway at Molineux.
The Hammers will go fourth with a win while the hosts will jump a place to 13th.

    CAL ON ME
Juventus are in pole position to sign AC Milan star Hakan Calhanoglu, according to reports.
The 27-year-old is out of contract at the end of this season and negotiations with his current club are believed to have stalled.
According to Sky Sport in Italy, Calhanoglu may remain at Milan beyond this summer as the two parties are still discussing a new deal.
Journalist Manuele Baiocchini is suggesting the player is wanting €1million, or £850,000, more a year than the Rossoneri are currently offering.
Should talks end without a signature, Juventus are believed to be in pole position to sign Calhanoglu.
The Turkey international has previously been a target for Manchester United, with reports suggesting he was close to signing a pre-contract agreement in November.

    MAD FOR REDS
Real Madrid face Liverpool in the first leg of their Champions League tie and SunSport picked out a combined XI ahead of the clash.
The Reds appear to have the edge with six of their players selected in the team.

    KOP FOR KOOP
Liverpool are interested in signing AZ Alkmaar midfielder Teun Koopmeiners in the summer, per reports.
The 23-year-old is being weighed up as a potential replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum, who seems set to join Barcelona when his contract expires in June.
And, according Calcio Mercato, the Reds reckon compatriot Koopmeiners could be a like-for-like replacement.
Although reports in Italy suggest Roma will fight them for the goalscoring midfielder.
Koopmeiners acknowledged the Serie A side’s interest after AZ Alkmaar beat Willem II on Saturday.
He told NOS Sport, “There is interest from AS Roma and we will see what happens. I will not go into any further interest. It’s only logical that interest will arise since we’ve had such a good season. We’ll see what happens. Though, it’s not on the agenda yet.”

    WELCOME!
You’ve come to the right place for all the latest football and transfer news.
Crystal Palace nicked a late equaliser at Goodison Park tonight – Michy Batshuayi’s strike cancelling out James Rodriguez’s effort earlier in the second-half.
West Ham travel to Wolves in the final game of the weekend with the Hammers looking to go fourth with a win.
But they’ll have to do it without star man Declan Rice who picked up a knee injury on England duty.
Elsewhere, history making referee Rebecca Welch took charge of an EFL match today.
The highest ranked female official in England was in the middle for Monday’s game between Harrogate Town and Port Vale in League Two.
Premier League Covid testers returned just one positive result over the past seven days – for the second week running.
The sole positive result came in the initial round of sampling between Monday and Thursday, from a total of 1,515 tests across the 20 clubs.
And fears of a potential spike when players returned from the international break appear to have abated after the second round of 1,149 tests between Friday and Sunday all came back clear.
Pep Guardiola says even a blind man would be able to see the quality of Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland.
The Manchester City boss distanced himself from reports linking the club with the Norwegian last week.
But he will get a close-up look at the 20-year-old hotshot – who arrived in Manchester wearing a Sky Blue backpack – when the two teams go head-to-head at the Etihad on Tuesday night.
Haaland has already scored ten goals in the competition this season and is rated in the £150million bracket by his German club.
Guardiola insists City will not be paying that kind of money for anyone this summer – but knows all about his ability.
And he knows his team will have to be at their best to keep him out during the two legs of the Champions League quarter-final.
Finally, City are ahead of Paris Saint-Germain in the transfer race to land Lionel Messi, according to reports.
But the Argentine great could end up staying put at Barcelona after all.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the competitiveness of the Premier League is thought to be an appealing factor for Messi as he considers his next step.
Manchester City are on course to win their third title in four years but the strength of the league makes playing in it an exciting prospect.
PSG, meanwhile, may be struggling to win the Ligue 1 title this year but have won seven of the last eight campaigns.

    AC Milan
AC Milan could offer De Gea a new home – especially if they lose keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma in the summer.
The Italian has been linked with a free transfer as he enters the last few months of his contract with agent Mino Raiola demanding a bumper £9m-a-season new deal.
Chelsea are said to be interested in the shot-stopper and received a boost with Milan’s negotiations reportedly hitting difficulties last week.
De Gea would also team up with old pal Zlatan Ibrahimovic after the former United striker signed a one-year extension at the San Siro.
    Atletico Madrid
De Gea starred for Atletico Madrid from 2003 until joining United in 2011 and could make a sensational return to the club.
But if he is to play under Diego Simeone at the Wanda Metropolitano then highly rated No1 Jan Oblak is likely to have to make a huge move elsewhere.
De Gea would welcome a move to his old side for family reasons with wife and new mum Edurne working as a TV reporter in Madrid.
    Barcelona
Barcelona are another side mentioned with De Gea’s name and could come to the fore if he sets his sights on a move back to Spain.
However, the Catalan giants are feeling the pinch amid the pandemic and may not have the funds required to pick up the keeper’s large wage bill.
Blaugrana No1 Marc-Andre ter Stegen also penned a lengthy new deal until 2025 in October.
    PSG
SunSport revealed last month that Mauricio Pochettino is keen on bringing De Gea to Paris Saint-Germain.
PSG are one of the few clubs around who could pick up De Gea’s £375,000-a-week wages AND offer a fee to interest United.
Former Spurs boss Pochettino is looking for a new No 1 to replace former Real Madrid stopper Keylor Navas.
Poch has been linked with his old Spurs and France international keeper Hugo Lloris for some time but De Gea has been on PSG’s radar just as long.
He has just been unavailable – until now.
    Real Madrid
De Gea has regularly been linked with a move to Real Madrid over the years.
If it wasn’t for a faulty fax machine a deal would have got over the line in 2015.
Zinedine Zidane has made no secret of the fact he is not fully trusting of former Chelsea man Thibaut Courtois in the Madrid goal.
And De Gea is likely to be keen on a return to his native Spain and the city where he was born.
    SAVE THE DAVE
David De Gea is set to quit Manchester United after being benched in favour of Dean Henderson.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer kept faith with the former Sheffield United loanee for the 2-1 comeback victory over Brighton at Old Trafford on Sunday night.
De Gea was back and available for selection after being given time off for the birth of his first child and spending the international break on duty with Spain.
But the man who has been named United player of the year more times than anyone else looks to be in a dog-fight for the No1 jersey and could bring the curtain down on a decade at the Red Devils.
SunSport takes a look at some of the clubs linked with a swoop for the 30-year-old keeper…

    ENERGETIC ERIC
Eric Bailly has sent a message to Man Utd fans after he caught coronavirus on international duty with Ivory Coast.
The defender is isolating but addressed United supporters in an upbeat message posted on the club’s Twitter.
He said: “Hi guys. Thanks for all of your messages.
“Just to say, I am good, I am fine, everything is good. It is just time to rest and come back stronger.”

    POSITIVE RESULTS
Premier League Covid testers returned just one positive result over the past seven days – for the second week running.
The sole positive result came in the initial round of sampling between Monday and Thursday, from a total of 1,515 tests across the 20 clubs.
And fears of a potential spike when players returned from the international break appear to have abated after the second round of 1,149 tests between Friday and Sunday all came back clear.
Prem chiefs have not been able to report a totally clear testing run since the final week of last season but with less than 20 positive tests in the past two months it is clear the enhanced protocols have worked successfully.
The news comes after the FA announced fans will be allowed to attend both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup finals. The EFL have confirmed the 8,000 capacity for the League Cup final, played between Tottenham and Manchester City on April 25.
The allocation will be made up of fans from both teams as well as local residents and NHS staff, who will be offered tickets as a way of saying thank you for their work during the pandemic.

    TRAFFORD TROUBLE

    PEP ON HAALAND
After Man Utd target Erling Haaland arrived in Manchester with his Borussia Dortmund team-mates, Pep Guardiola said: “A player who can score this amount of goals at this age has not been easy to find in the past, honestly.
“He’s 20, the numbers speak for themselves. When that happens it’s because he can score right, left, counter-attacks, penalty box, headers.
“He’s a fantastic striker, everyone knows it. A blind guy can realise he’s a great striker, you don’t have to be a manager to realise it.
“The only thing I can say is that he is an exceptional striker. With his age, he is an exceptional striker.”
The Dortmund bus rolled into town as the Bundesliga boys checked in at The Lowry Hotel
    EYE FOR GOAL
Pep Guardiola says even a blind man would be able to see the quality of Manchester United target Erling Haaland.
And he knows his team will have to be at their best to keep him out during the two legs of the Champions League quarter-final…

    CAL ON ME
Juventus are in pole position to sign AC Milan star Hakan Calhanoglu, according to reports.

    GET IN MA-SON!
Bruno Fernandes hailed Mason Greenwood for his winner against Brighton but warned the forward he cannot just care about goals.

    LUK AND LEARN
Romelu Lukaku surpassed Ronaldo’s Inter Milan goal record – with 13 games to spare.
The former Manchester United striker, 27, swapped Old Trafford for the San Siro in 2019 for £73million. And since then he has been in red-hot form.
In 86 appearances for Inter, Lukaku has a staggering 60 goals.
He managed 34 in 51 last term and his winning goal at Bologna on Saturday took his tally this season to 26 in 35. And that means the Belgian hitman is more prolific than the Brazilian icon.
The ‘original’ Ronaldo – nicknamed the Phenomenon – moved to Inter in 1997 after one staggering season with Barcelona where he scored 47 goals.
R9 managed 59 goals for the Serie A giants – but did so in 99 matches across five injury-hit years. Lukaku also has more assists than Ronaldo for Inter, with 13 to 12.

Borussia Dortmund are determined to keep Manchester United target Erling Haaland this summer.
Club CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke told Goal: “We will discuss this with Erling, his father and his agent Mino Raiola.
“We also want him to be happy to stay with us, to score goals for BVB next year with conviction. There is no alternative plan.”

    A TELL-TALE
Manchester United are ready to offer Alex Telles to Sporting Lisbon on loan in a player-plus-cash deal for Nuno Mendes, reports say.
Telles was signed from Sporting’s rivals Porto this summer for £15.3million to provide competition for Luke Shaw.
But Shaw’s form has been so impressive, Telles has only played seven times in the league, with his other 14 appearances coming in cup competition.
It leaves his Old Trafford future up in the air, and according to Portuguese newspaper Record, United are willing to see the left-back leave.
They are understood to be plotting a deal for Telles, 28, to be used as ‘a bargaining chip’ to sign fellow full-back Mendes.
The offer could include a £33.9million fee for Sporting and a season-long loan of Telles.
United would still need to cover at least part of the Portugal international’s wages.

    TEENAGE KICKS
Mason Greenwood scored his 12th Premier League goal as a teen for Man United yesterday.
And he’s not in bad company!
The 19-year-old still has until his birthday in October to add to his already impressive tally.

    LUC WHO IT IS
Manchester United and Chelsea are set to do battle for Lucas Vazquez, according to reports.
The Spaniard is set to be out of contract in the summer, when his Real Madrid deal expires.
ACB claim that the right-sided player turned down Madrid’s latest offer, putting Premier League sides on red alert.
The 29-year-old has been playing as a wing-back of late, but made his name at Santiago Bernabeu as a winger.

    WATZ THAT ALL ABOUT?
Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has defiantly claimed that it will take an ‘exceptional offer’ for Man United target Jadon Sancho to leave the club this summer.
He told DAZN: “I’m not getting involved in probabilities, it’s no good. Jadon Sancho has been with us much longer than Erling Haaland.
“We’ll have to speak to Jadon too. If there is an exceptional offer, we will discuss it with the player and the agent, as always. Nonetheless, I am very sure that the transfer market will only run to a very limited extent this summer.
“Especially at the very big clubs, you can see what kind of wounds coronavirus has inflicted – and they are not small ones that heal within two weeks.”

    RUD AWAKENING
Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger ‘showed Kepa who’s boss’ in their training-ground clash, it has been claimed.
The Blues duo had to be pulled apart during a fiery Easter Sunday session.
And The Athletic have reported further details on the pair’s showdown at Cobham. Kepa and Rudiger were playing in a small-sided game organised for the players who missed out on Saturday’s 5-2 thrashing by West Brom.
Spanish goalkeeper Kepa reportedly gave Rudiger ‘a few verbals as the match was going on’. The Athletic reported: “They then collided when going for the same ball and that sparked a physical confrontation with a lot of pushing and shoving.”
The report also quoted a source as saying: “Rudiger showed Kepa who’s boss.”
Thomas Tuchel’s men were still smarting from a harrowing defeat by West Brom at Stamford Bridge the day before. The Telegraph earlier reported that the argument was started in a small-sided game, in which defender Rudiger is said to have gone in late on Kepa.

    HAARD SELL FOR PEP
Manchester City are proud of the fact that for all the money they have spent, their record signing is still Ruben Dias at £64million.
So suggestions they are about to pay way north of £100m on a player like Erling Haaland seem unlikely.
Asked about the fees being talked of, Guardiola said: “I don’t know, it’s a question for Dortmund, his agent, so I don’t know
“So far the club has decided not to spend close to £100m for a player, or more than £100m on a player.
“Maybe in the future it is going to happen if they decide it is necessary to improve the team for the next five, ten years, for many reasons.
“But so far the club, the organisation, the CEO, the sporting director decided not to do it and that’s why they didn’t do it. But maybe in the future – I don’t know.”

    OH MY ROD
James Rodriguez has admitted he wanted a move to Atletico Madrid but it was blocked by Real Madrid.
The Colombia star was denied the move to their rivals and ended up joining Everton. Rodriguez told ESPN: “I played very little in Madrid. Especially in my second spell.
“After leaving Bayern I had everything ready to join Atletico Madrid, but Real Madrid didn’t let me.”
The playmaker instead ended up joining Everton last summer and credits Carlo Ancelotti for convincing him to move to England.
Rodriguez said: “If it weren’t for Carlo, I wouldn’t have come [to Everton]. It’s the truth. Then, I started to get to know the club, the people, and I saw that everyone wanted to win, like me.
“But Carlo being here was fundamental. It hasn’t been easy for me due to physical problems, but I know that when I play well, the team play well. I’ve shown my strength at the club, and with my teammates. I want Everton to play good football.”

    CHANGING OF THE GAARD
Martin Odegaard has reportedly been offered to THREE of Arsenal’s Premier League rivals with the ‘heartbroken’ ace facing a permanent Real Madrid exit.
The Norwegian, 22, joined Arsenal on loan from Los Blancos in January and the Gunners are keen to snap him up for good after a string of impressive performances.
And 90min reports Madrid have decided there is no room for Odegaard as they plan to rebuild the squad.
It is a decision which is said to have left the former teenage wonderkid ‘heartbroken’.
The report states Odegaard is upset after being told to find a new club but that he would favour a full-time move to the Premier League.
Arsenal could struggle to muster the £40million Madrid are looking to recoup.
The report suggests the Spanish side have already spoken with three of the Gunners’ Prem rivals as they look to get the best deal for their asset.

The Borussia Dortmund wonderkid, 16, hurt his foot in training while on international duty with Germany Under-21s in March.
And the damage done is more significant than initially expected.

    MORE ON DECLAN RICE
    From SunSport’s Duncan Wright
Declan Rice will miss the majority of West Ham’s push for a top four finish – but does not need an operation which would rule him out of the Euros.
Rice has been wearing a brace on a knee injury suffered on England duty and the Hammers have already ruled him out for the next two matches, including tonight’s trip to Woves.
But SunSport understands the 22-year-old only expects to miss the next four-five weeks – and is already working in the gym maintaining his fitness levels.
The plan is to assess the injury again in a fortnight, when if all has healed as expected it will allow him to step up his comeback.
His injury is a nightmare for Hammers boss David Moyes, who has now lost his most influential player with a Champions League place up for grabs.
Rice is undergoing treatment with club medics and is positive he will be back for the final three matches of the season.
That would give him more than enough time to prove his fitness to be named in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the European Championship this summer.
Southgate already has a major fitness worry over Jordan Henderson, so for injury to strike the other proven option in the holding midfield position is a huge blow.

Ex-Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez wants a Premier League return.
The 60-year-old, who left Chinese Super League side Dalian Professional in January, has expressed his desire to manage in England again.
Speaking to Spanish newspaper Marca, the Benitez said: “I’ve already received more than one [job offer] in the last few months, but it wasn’t the right time or project. I needed to spend time with my family.
“My experiences with Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle have all been very enjoyable and for that reason my priority is the Premier League.
“My family are in England and it’s the most complete league, but I can’t rule out leaving. As I said, if there’s a well-defined project with objectives [I’ll be interested].”

    WILL TO WIN
Newcastle’s on-loan Arsenal star Joe Willock is confident that his side have enough to beat the drop.
After netting yesterday’s late equaliser against lacklustre Spurs, the midfielder said: “We need to win games, we need to win football matches to stay in the league.
“I feel like we can. I’m so confident in the manager and everyone else is as well, so I feel we have enough to do it.

    COMEBACK KINGS

    FERN TACKLE
Bruno Fernandes says he missed Marcus Rashford’s equaliser against Brighton last night, despite being credited with the assist.
The Manchester United star was hacked down by Joel Veltman after playing the ball, but the defender didn’t receive a yellow card for the challenge.
Speaking to MUTV after the match, Fernandes said: “I didn’t see it because someone almost broke my ankle!
“But I’m happy for the team, I am happy for Marcus. It was a good effort because as everyone knows he has come back from injury and he’s helped us.
“This effort comes from everyone. The press for the first goal was good it made them do the wrong ball and I recovered the ball and passed to Marcus and he scores.
“Everyone is happy when we win and it doesn’t matter who scores.”

    MUST GO
Ex-Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi’s future is in doubt after he was dropped from Schalke’s squad.
The 28-year-old missed Saturday’s defeat to Bayer Leverkusen and there are rumours his manager isn’t interested in playing him again.
According to German newspaper Bild, Schalke boss Dimitrios Grammozis feels let down by the experienced defender and he may not play again this season.
Mustafi was left out of the manager’s squad at the weekend for ‘sporting reasons’ – leading to huge speculation about his future.
Schalke sit bottom of the Bundesliga and are almost certain to be relegated.

    NO MOR
Juventus have reportedly ruled out a permanent deal for Alvaro Morata.
The Italian giants cannot afford to sign the Atletico Madrid striker because of Cristiano Ronaldo’s huge £900,000-a-week contract.
Juve reportedly will not be able to sign the Spanish striker after his loan spell comes to an end.
Morata has been one of the few success stories this season for Juve after joining on loan from Atletico Madrid.
The former Chelsea striker has scored 16 goals in all competitions for Juve.
His form has impressed the Italians but they are not in a position to hold on to him.
A permanent deal is off the table because the Italians are struggling financially.
There is an option to buy Morata at the end of the season but this is not being considered and even another loan deal could prove too costly for them.

    CITY CHASE
Manchester City are ahead of Paris Saint-Germain in the transfer race to land Lionel Messi, according to reports.
The chance to play under Pep Guardiola again would also attract Messi to the Etihad.
