Arsenal 1-1 Slavia Prague LIVE RESULT: Holes equalises in last minute for Czechs following Pepe Europa League strike

ARSENAL have it all to do in Prague after letting in a last minute away goal.Nicolas Pepe thought he had sent the Gunners to the Czech capital with a lead but Tomas Holes headed in an equaliser in stoppage time.
    THAT’s ALL FOR TONIGHT
Join us again here at SunSport for the second leg in Prague next week and as it stands, it’s advantage Slavia Prague!
Arsenal have a lot of work to do.
    Goodnight.
    CZECH MATE
ARSENAL’s Europa League ambitions are hanging in the balance after conceding a disastrous stoppage-time equaliser.
Mikel Arteta thought his team had grabbed a crucial late lifeline when substitute Nicolas Pepe forced an 86th-minute breakthrough.
But Arsenal’s record signing undid all his good work when he failed to clear a last-gasp Slavia corner to allow defender Tomas Holes to head in at the back post.
It was an absolute sickener for Arteta, who had been hoping that the backlash from Saturday’s Liverpool humiliation would be “the big punch in the face” that his team required.

    ARTETA’s THOUGHTS
Mikel Arteta gave his thoughts to BT Sport after the game: “The game was under control.
“then we played two or three balls that we shouldn’t do and then we conceded the corner.
“They put a lot of big boys in there and then anything can happen.
“The final result leaves a difficult taste. But the mindset is to go there and win the game.”

    DINAMO ZAGREB 0 – 1 VILLARREAL
In the second half this game we saw a play much like the first half, except it seemed as though Dinamo’s heads went down and were struggling to produce any attack.
Krznar tried to inject some magic with the substitution of Petkovic, despite him not being fit enough to start the game due to an ongoing injury. With his return they were hoping for the fire to reignite which they had against Tottenham, but this sadly did not happen. Krznar tried all his options with multiple substitutions but the visitors controlled the match until the final whistle.
Although Villarreal managed to secure the win with a questionably awarded penalty, their game was also not what they had hoped for. Players such as Chukwueze did not play to their potential and with multiple easy shots on goal missed.
However, the visitors achieved their aim and if they should keep a clean sheet at Madrigal next week then they’re back in the UEFA semi final. They continue to remain the competition’s only unbeaten side.

    VILLAREAL WIN AGAINST DINAMO ZAGREB

    AND THE WHISTLE IS BLOWN!!

    DINAMO ZAGREB 0 – 1 VILLARREAL
+3 Although anything can happen in three minutes, Villarreal have little to gain from an extra goal but a lot to lose from a goal from Dinamo. They continue to maintain possessing but no obvious pushes to attack.
    DINAMO ZAGREB 0 – 1 VILLARREAL
90 3+ minutes added to the clock
    DINAMO ZAGREB 0 – 1 VILLARREAL
88 With just two minutes left on the clock Villarreal push towards another goal looking to shut down this game in the final minutes.
    DINAMO ZAGREB 0 – 1 VILLARREAL
85 Dinamo finally in a position of attack as Ivanušec takes the free-kick but this is unsuccessful and Dinamo are no closer to equalising.
    DINAMO ZAGREB 0 – 1 VILLARREAL
80 Villarreal continue to maintain possession but feel no need to force anything with a 1-0 lead.
Freshness again is introduced into the Dinamo team with a double substitution of Franjić and Tolić. Trying to inject fresh blood to change the trajectory of this game.
    DINAMO ZAGREB 0 – 1 VILLARREAL
With fifteen minutes left in this knockout European tie leaves room for any twists in play but the play has proven to be sluggish with neither team forcing any attack.

    DINAMO ZAGREB 0 – 1 VILLARREAL
75 A foul awarded against Moreno on Ristovski. A cheap foul high across the top of the knee, a well deserved of a yellow card is awarded.
    DINAMO ZAGREB 0 – 1 VILLARREAL
70 Livaković once again stops the push of the Villarreal! Trigueros shoots from just outside the penalty area, it loops up off Théophile-Catherine and Livaković tips the ball over.
Livaković is the sole player stopping the Villarreal attack.
    DINAMO ZAGREB 0 – 1 VILLARREAL
65 A big chance for a second goal for Villarreal is missed! Gerard Moreno passes an extravagant through for Alcacer to run on to and misses the target which would’ve been an easy goal.
    DINAMO ZAGREB 0 – 1 VILLARREAL
63 The visitors continue to dominate and don’t seem to be far from a second goal.
The momentum that Dinamo had against Tottenham is gone and it looks as if Krznar is clutching at straws trying to get that magic back with the double substitution of Kastrati and Petković.
    DINAMO ZAGREB 0 – 1 VILLARREAL
61 Petkovic is subbed in, a surprise considering he wasn’t fit enough to start the game due to an ongoing injury. Maybe this is the hero Dinamo needs!
    DINAMO ZAGREB 0 – 1 VILLARREAL
56 Although Dinamo’s defence isn’t allowing the visitors to add to their lead, Rulli seems to be a key player on the home-side’s defence blocking any potential chances for the visitors to score.
    DINAMO ZAGREB 0 – 1 VILLARREAL
52 With another attack from Villarreal, they open up Dinamo’s defence and Alcacer strikes for the goal. Théophile-Catherine blocks it preventing the push of the Yellow Submarine.
    DINAMO ZAGREB 0 – 1 VILLARREAL
51 It looks as if what ever Krznar said in the changing rooms hasn’t worked. Instead of Dinamo looking to take control of possession, they’re struggling in defence.
Villarreal have seen that Dinamo aren’t looking to take control and are just holding the ball and maintaining possession.
    DINAMO ZAGREB 0 – 1 VILLARREAL
47 The game is back to the familiar back and forth of both sides but with Petkovic and Kastrati warming up on the side lines it might not be long until we see a change in the game play.
    DINAMO ZAGREB 0 – 1 VILLARREAL
46 And Dinamo are back with a vengeance with an early possession in this half.
Within the first minute Atiemwen has an attempt on goal but this goal doesn’t even test Rulli who saves it easily.
AND WE’RE INTO THE SECOND HALF

    RACISM PROTECTION
Instagram have shockingly ruled a social media post calling an England Women’s star a n**** does NOT flout their guidelines.
Liverpool and Lioness winger Rinsola Babajide revealed she had been abused by someone on Instagram in a post which left her feeling sick.
The 22-year-old was stunned to see someone post a reply on her timeline from an account in the name of azliz1 which said: “Football is only for men you n****”.
But after other users reported what they thought was clear racist abuse, they were stunned when Instagram replied: “We’ve reviewed azliz1’s account and found that it doesn’t go against our Community Guidelines.”
The social media giant, owned by Facebook, told SunSport discrimination had no place on its platforms and claimed they “want to hold people who share it accountable”.
After we made them aware of the alarming review on Babajide’s abuse, they vowed to investigate.
    NO FERGIE TIME
Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted he could no longer dish out his infamous “hairdryer” blasts in the modern-day game because snowflake footballers have been known to cry.
The ex-Manchester United boss became renowned for his many close-up screaming and spitting outbursts.
But Fergie now bemoans the fact that current football managers are restricted from using his fearsome motivational weapon because society has changed and players have become too sensitive.
Speaking to The Athletic, he said: “Jim Smith told me one of his players started crying when he got criticised.
“I thought, ‘What is the game like now? Where are we going?’
“Obviously you have to be tactful nowadays about the criticism you give them.”
    SAINTS ROW
Ralph Hasenhuttl says he is certain Theo Walcott will be a Southampton player next season – even though a deal still has to be thrashed out with the former England star.
Hasenhuttl believes Walcott’s loan move from Everton has been a big success despite a recent injury and claims he needs professionals like him at the club.
Walcott, 32, is a free agent in the summer and the Saints boss said: “We are in negotiations with his agent and with him and I’m sure not only this player but we will have next season a very balanced and mentally strong side for sure.
“It’s no secret that I was very happy with him, because I think he did a fantastic job. We missed him definitely when he was injured.
“I like a lot of things of this player, not only his workload but also his mentality, his attitude, his professionalism. This is something every team needs to have. It’s a player, every manager likes to work with.
“He is positive, always very open minded for new things and in the end, never wanted never stop getting better.”
    ROYAL FLUSH
Arsenal are reportedly planning a takeover bid for Belgian top-flight club Royal Excel Mouscron.
The Pro League strugglers have recently failed to pay their players on time due to financial concerns.
Mouscron officials have been seeking outside investment amid fears the Belgian FA will strip away the club’s licence to operate.
Reports in Brussels now claim Arsenal aim to take a sizeable stake in the southern outfit in order to use them as a nursery club.
According to La Derniere Heure, the Gunners would employ their former defender Pascal Cygan, 46, to manage Mouscron.
    FIRM BID
Arsenal will make a ‘firm offer’ to sign Achraf Hakimi, according to reports.
Mikel Arteta is keen to sign a new defender with Hector Bellerin’s Gunners future up in the air.
And AS in Spain report that the Gunners are preparing an offer for Inter Milan’s 22-year-old Hakimi.
Hakimi was linked with a move to North London last summer, but he opted to join the Serie A side from Real Madrid following his hugely-successful loan spell at Borussia Dortmund.
But Arteta’s men have retained their interest in the Morocco international, with club scouts still recommending they bring him to England.

    FIT FOR A KING
Eddie Howe wants Josh King to snub the Premier League and become one of his first Celtic signings.
The incoming Hoops boss has identified the Norwegian hitman as a replacement for wantaway striker Odsonne Edouard.
King has struggled to impress at Everton after joining on a short-term deal from Bournemouth, but several English clubs are still keen on him.
Howe will have to talk his former Cherries striker into taking a wage cut if they are to be reunited in Glasgow.
King, 29 – understood to be earning £45,000 a week at Goodison – enjoyed the most prolific spell of his career when he worked under Howe.

    EUR SAFE
Manchester United’s 12-year record unbeaten run in the Champions League remains intact after Paris Saint-Germain beat Bayern Munich.
The Red Devils went 25 games without loss between September 2007 and May 2009.
They beat Chelsea in the 2008 final for their third European crown and the following year finally lost to Barcelona at the same stage.
It was a stretch that included 15 wins and ten draws, including the one in Moscow as John Terry slipped in the shootout.
Bayern Munich were closing in on matching – and breaking – that 25-match tally.
But after brushing aside Lazio in the last 16 4-1 away and 2-1 at home, Hans-Dieter Flick’s side, missing the injured Robert Lewandowski, were eventually toppled in the Bavaria snow -ending their run at 19 games.

    UP DE ANTE
Kevin De Bruyne became the Premier League’s best-paid player when signing a £385,000-a-week contract extension with Manchester City.
The record-breaking deal, which runs to 2025, is all the more remarkable as he negotiated with his club on his own.

    FRIM JOB
Arsenal cult hero Emmanuel Frimpong has revealed that he wants to ‘star in porn’ with Russian ‘Tatar babes’.
In an interview, he said: “Oh yeah! I still want to come to Ufa and star in porn with 20 Tatar babes!”
And asked if he had any suggestions for the films, he replied: “Yes, many suggestions!
“They write to me and ask to come. The problem is I don’t have the money for the ticket, haha. But I really like Tatar women!”

    HAVE SOME OF STAT
Kevin De Bruyne proved it was a numbers game by arming himself with stats to land his bumper new Manchester City deal.
The Belgian maestro, 29, negotiated a two-year extension at the Etihad on Wednesday reportedly worth an eye-watering £385,000 a week to make him the highest-paid player in the Premier League.
De Bruyne is said to have talked his way up from his current £300k wages after using data to show just how vital he is to Pep Guardiola’s team.
Reports state De Bruyne commissioned a team of data analysts to study every facet of his contribution to the side and relate it to the team’s chances of success going forward.
The midfielder is thought to have wanted information on his own performances and his impact on the team but also the squad’s ability to continue to win trophies.

    HERE’S DE BRUY
The biggest transfer story of yesterday came from the Etihad where Kevin de Bruyne signed a contract extension to keep him at the club until 2025.
SunSport reported on March 10 that an agreement was edging closer after KdB knocked back the first offer – and they shook hands on the agreement earlier this week.
If the Belgian sees out his contract, it means he will have spent a decade with the Sky Blues.
He was previously on around £300,000 a week at City and is believed to have agreed a small increase.
But crucially the former Chelsea man was given the assurances on the football side that the club’s ambitions matched his own.
De Bruyne is on the brink of a third Premier League title but is desperate to win the Champions League – the one club trophy missing from his CV.

    LOSING FOCUS
BBC presenter Dan Walker has announced his departure from Football Focus.
The programme has been a Saturday lunchtime staple since its launch as part of Grandstand in 1974, with Walker the host for the past 12 years.
On Thursday, 44-year-old Walker confirmed the move.
He said: “This is going to be my last season presenting Football Focus. It has been an amazing 12 years and I can honestly say I have loved every single second of it.
“I am so proud of the job we’ve done, the changes we’ve made and issues we’ve looked at a time when the football landscape has changed immeasurably.
“But, having said all that, after 12 years it’s time for someone else to take the reins.”

    DYNAMIC DUO IN BLUE?
Here is how Chelsea could line up with Sergio Aguero and Erling Haaland.
Which one would you like to sign if you could, Blues fans?

    THE HERR AND NOW
Manchester City will be keeping a keen eye on Granada’s clash with their neighbours on Thursday, to watch Yangel Herrera.
The LaLiga side face Manchester United in the Europa League quarter-finals with the Venezuelan set to line up in midfield.
Herrera, 23, is coming to the end of a two-year loan spell at Granada and could attempt a breakthrough into the City team upon his return.
Pep Guardiola’s side are considering giving him a run with Fernandinho set to vacate the position in the summer.
The Brazilian is out of contract and reportedly set to follow Sergio Aguero out the Etihad exit door.

    GED HIM IN
Tottenham flop Gedson Fernandes has reportedly been chosen by Marseille as a replacement for Oliver Ntcham.
Celtic star Ntcham has been on loan at the French side since January but is set to return to Scotland this summer after a controversial stint which saw ex-boss Andre Villas Boas reveal he didn’t want the player.
And reports now state Benfica’s Fernandes, currently on loan at Galatasary, is the target identified to replace him in Jorge Sampaoli’s squad.
The storm surrounding Ntcham’s arrival saw ex-Spurs and Chelsea manager Villas-Boas resign in a press conference before he was then sacked by the club following the bust-up with the board who sanctioned the move without his blessing.
But Ntcham has fared little better under former Argentina boss Sampaoli, making just one appearance.
French reports suggest the ace will head back to the Hoops when his temporary move comes to an end at the close of the season.

    RECAP
A reminder of one of the biggest stories of the day.
Arsenal have reignited their interest in Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha, according to reports.
The Gunners were linked with a £40million transfer in 2019 before bringing in his Ivory Coast team-mate Nicolas Pepe instead.
But it is now thought that the North Londoners are plotting a fresh bid.
However, in order to finance a swoop, Arsenal would need to sell – and the report adds Alexandre Lacazette could be axed to raise funds.

    READY TO BOUNCE BACK?
Can Arsenal hit back after their dismal 3-0 defeat to Liverpool on the weekend? Europe is their last chance to salvage something from this season.

    BOATENG TO BID FAREWELL
Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has revealed defender Jerome Boateng will be let go at the end of the season.
The 32-year-old German’s contract expires in the summer and it has now been confirmed the Bundesliga champions will not be renewing his deal.
“Jerome’s contract expires in the summer. It will not be extended,” Salihamidzic told Sky Germany before the match last night.
“That was a joint decision of the club management and the coach was also involved. I explained that to Jerome and he was very understanding. He leaves through a big door – hopefully with titles.”

“But they might be thinking, ‘actually, we might want him back, he could be a real help to us’.
“If he’s willing to go back there and compete and be the player that Dan James has been for the last few weeks, in and out, then there’s no doubt he can play for Manchester United.”
‘MAN UTD NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR HAALAND’
Former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara believes Manchester United will not be able to sign Erling Haaland in the summer as they are ‘not good enough’.
The 20-year-old Borussia Dortmund striker has been linked with a move to Old Trafford as well as Barcelona, Real Madrid, Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool.
But O’Hara feels it is unrealistic to think the Norwegian could join Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
“They can’t get Haaland – because they’re not good enough,” he told talkSPORT. “Why is he going go to Man United? Why?
“It’s alright needing him, but you’ve got Real Madrid, Barca, Man City. They need him.
“[United] paid £100m for Paul Pogba and he’s gone there thinking they’re gonna go to the next level. And it hasn’t worked and he’s been trophyless.
“Haaland’s not going to go to Manchester United and be thinking ‘We might win something, we might not, he’s going somewhere where he might win everything.”

    READY FOR GRANADA
Looks like the Man Utd boys are enjoying themselves out in sunny Spain.

    IT’S A TREBLE!
Sir Alex Ferguson celebrated his best treble since 1999 after landing a massive £169,000 payday at the Grand National Festival.
The Manchester United legend co-owns the first THREE winners at Aintree.
Fergie won with Protektorat in the first, Monmiral in the second and Clan Des Obeaux in the third.
The three horses winning were monumental odds of 108-1 before the off.

    DREAMING OF AN UPSET
Granada boss Diego Martinez on their clash with Manchester United this evening as they look to spring a surprise on the 2017 Europa League champions.
We respect every team and we’re not going to find out right now what United is. It’s a giant in Europe, it’s an amazing team. But if we are in the quarter-finals and we’re facing them it’s because we’ve done many good things.
We’re going to play 180 minutes, plus injury-time, and we believe in our possibilities. Last year we were candidates, one, two or three to be back in the second division and we ended up in Europe.
“There’s a sentence in our dressing room ‘they didn’t know it’s impossible so they did it” so this is what we try to think of. We are very proud of the people we have here because with this we can go anywhere.
“We can go to the desert or anywhere because we feel strong, we want to make the most of the moment and this is something that makes us grow in itself.
“It’s very stimulating, very rewarding to be in a match like this one not only because we are in the quarter-finals of the Europa League, but also the game itself, the match itself. We of course want to give our perfect game – the match of our lives. This is what we need to win. This is what we have to focus on.”

    EUROPA LEAGUE GLORY?
Will Manchester United be adding to this come the end of the season?

    RASHFORD V WILLIAMS
Tasty little face-off between Marcus Rashford and Brandon Williams in training lyesterday. But who grabbed the bib first?

    READY TO ATTACK
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has also revealed his Man Utd team intend to attack Granada this evening.
He said: “I think we’ve proved to ourselves and everyone that we are good side home or away, but of course the neutral game against Sociedad was a very good one for us. We played against a very good team.
“Granada is a different team and a different set-up than Real Sociedad with different strengths and a different way of playing so we’ve got to find a way to get the best possible performance.
“I think that’s what we do best [attacking]. It’s always going to be in our DNA that we want to go and score goals.
“Of course you want a defensive foundation, but we know about away goals and also how good we are at Old Trafford as well. We’ve got a proud record at Old Trafford in Europe so if we get a good result to build on that’s all we can ask.”

    FITNESS UPDATE
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given fitness updates on Marcus Rashford, Alex Telles and Eric Bailly ahead of tonight’s game.
He said: “Marcus is okay-ish. He’s trained on Wednesday morning and Juan is back training as is Alex [Telles], so we’re looking stronger definitely. We didn’t lose anyone last weekend against Brighton.
“Yes of course [it shows Rashford’s determination] and it’s a big game. We’ve got loads of games and we need players to work together as a squad – is it from the start or is it coming on? He’s available to be selected as I said either as a sub or a starter.”
Speaking about Bailly, he then added: “He needs a negative test before he can come back to us. It’ll take the time it takes unfortunately. That’s the world we live in at the moment and we’ve got to take the precautionary measures. Hopefully Eric is still feeling okay, last time I spoke to him he was alright.”

    KEEPING DILEMMA
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has opened up about the difficult decision he has to make over who his No1 keeper will be moving forward.
Dean Henderson has played in the Red Devils’ last seven games, including against Brighton at the weekend despite the return of De Gea to the first team set-up.
Will he stick or twist tonight? Here is what the Man Utd boss had to say.
He said: “With the keepers, that’s the same, I’ve got two very, very good options and whoever plays will play well, I’m sure. I cannot prioritise the league, Europa League, every game here is the most important, the next one is the most important one.
“Every time I try to explain to players why they don’t play in this particular game and what they need to do, what my plans are for them, all those discussions remain private.
“David has been a top, top ‘keeper and is still a top, top ‘keeper and he’s working to be ready when he plays. If it’s Dean or David, I’m confident in them to play. When you’re a part of Man United, players are always going to come in, they don’t just come in to fill the bench or the squad, everyone’s got ambition to take your shirt.
“It’s the same at right-back, left-back, centre forward, goalkeeper. David has had 10 fantastic years at Man United, and he’s had challenges. Sergio [Romero] probably played less games than he deserved, Dean comes in and always gives it his all and his best. David does as well and it’s a healthy competition.”

    SEASPIRACY
Marcus Rojo wants to use FISHING as bait to persuade Edinson Cavani to follow in his footsteps and quit Old Trafford for Boca Juniors.
The ex-Man Utd defender said: “I promised to take him fishing if he comes here.
“He loves fishing, he’s always going on about it. He has a lake near his home and was always trying to get me to go out with him.”

    EL OF A PLAYER
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has listed Anthony Elanga’s ‘X-factor’ qualities, after promoting him to the first-team squad.
He said: “I’ve got faith in the young lads, of course, and, in Anthony, we have a player with good skills, a great attitude and he scores goals from either the right or left, and he’s got good pace.
“He’s not just there for experience, he might actually play a part, who knows?
“He’s got that X-factor and I like players with speed and acceleration and he’s definitely got that.”

    START-LIN PRICE
Manchester United have put a £30million price tag on Jesse Lingard after his sensational spell on loan at West Ham, according to Sky Sports.
The 28-year-old has netted six times in eight games for the Hammers, a run of form which has seen him re-called to the England squad.
But David Moyes’ side will reportedly have to shell out a huge fee if they are to secure Lingard’s services on a permanent basis.
This is despite his contract expiring at Old Trafford in 2022.

    SET-FAC
Manchester United loanee Facundo Pellistri has suffered a fibrillar tear on his bicep while out on loan at Alaves.
The club’s statment read: “Facundo Pellistri left last Sunday the match against RC Celta de Vigo with some muscular discomfort and yesterday Tuesday he underwent tests to determine the exact extent of the same.
“The medical report of IMQ reveals that the Uruguayan player suffers a fibrillar tear in the short portion of the left femoral biceps that has prevented him from exercising with his teammates.
“Pellistri will follow a conservative treatment and his evolution on a day-to-day basis will mark his availability to join the group.”

    LUC OUT FOR VAZQUEZ
Lucas Vazquez refused to commit his future to Real Madrid after the win over Liverpool amid interest from Manchester United.
That has sparked further discussions surrounding a summer free transfer when his current contract expires, with Chelsea also linked to the Los Blancos man.
Asked about renewing his contract, Vazquez said: “Now what I focus on is the present.
“I am enjoying this year with minutes, I feel comfortable playing and that is what makes me happy.
“I was always from Madrid and I will always be from Madrid.”
Lucas Vazquez left a cryptic message for reporters after being asked about his future.

Porto 0 Chelsea 2 LIVE REACTION: Mount and Chilwell put Tuchel’s men on cusp of Champions League semi-finals

CHELSEA are in full control of their Champions League quarter-final after a comfortable victory in Seville.

    THAT’S ALL FROM SEVILLE!
Chelsea made a giant step towards the Champions League semi-finals after beating Porto 2-0 at the neutral ground of Sevilla’s Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.
The Blues opened the scoring on 32 minutes when Jorginho found Mason Mount at the edge of the box with a fine pass.
Mount pirouetted around Chancel Mbemba, who went early for the ball, and beat Agustin Marchesin with a fine finish to open the scoring.
Porto played well throughout the game with some fine passing and strong pressure but couldn’t create any major chances.
The west Londoners sealed the win, and perhaps the tie, after 85 minutes when Jesus Corona carelessly gave the ball away at the back with a poor touch.
Ben Chilwell picked it up and dribbled past Marchesin nicely before registering Chelsea’s second away goal of the night.
Thank you for following the action with us and have a lovely night!

    CLEANING HOUSE
Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has been in incredible form this season.
But Mendy dramatically improved even more when Thomas Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard at the helm in January.
The Senegal international has kept 10 clean sheets ever since, which is more than any other keeper playing in the five biggest leagues in Europe.
    More below:
10 – Since Thomas Tuchel’s first game in charge of Chelsea (27th Jan 2021), no goalkeeper playing for a top five European league side has kept more clean sheets in all competitions than Edouard Mendy (10). Calming. pic.twitter.com/O4QOqH52V5— OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) April 7, 2021

    TUCHEL REACTS
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel echoed Mason Mount’s statement by insisting the tie is not over yet but described the result as “excellent” even though they “suffered” at times.
Tuchel told BT Sport: “The result is excellent. It was a tough match against a strong Porto side. They are a proud club and a proud team, so there were moments when we suffered. But we accepted it and I could see the circumstances are a bit different in a quarter-final.
“In some moments it was a good game, in some moments we suffered. But the spirit was good.
“I was pretty sure [there would be a reaction to the West Brom defeat] because I saw the response after the game in the dressing room. That wasn’t a big concern. We had a big loss but it was our responsibility but we accepted it. We were ready to respond. There will always be setbacks in football, the challenge is to bounce back.
“I am very, very happy he [Mason Mount] scored. It was an important goal and opened up the game for us and calmed nerves. It wasn’t an easy shot but very precise. I am very happy for Mason, he takes responsibility. Mason is precise with his finishing and always ready to help us.
“Was [Ben Chilwell] excellent because he kept his composure to go past the goalkeeper. It was super important to get the second away goal. Like I said, we lacked a bit of rhythm in our attack but there was always a chance to get a goal from a mistake from our opponent. He isn’t a regular scorer but I am very happy we go away with the result. It’s half time, though. We need to keep going”

    TWO LIONS
What a night this was for Chelsea as well as Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell…
Both of them got on the scoresheet and, funnily enough, marked the first time in almost 10 years that two English players hit the target for the Blues on the same night in the Champions League.
Last time that happened was in 2012 when the west Londoners beat Napoli 4-1 at Stamford Bridge in the Round of 16.
Frank Lampard and John Terry did the honours in a night that also saw Didier Drogba and Branislav Ivanovic hitting the target

    MOUNT REACTS
Chelsea ace Mason Mount insists the tie is not over yet but is pleased with the result.
Mount told BT Sport: “We knew it was going to be a tough game. We knew how hard to play against them, we didn’t have many chances, but we kept going.
“We obviously got the goal first-half, and the second late on secured a good win, but that’s only half the tie. It’s about time it came [a Champions League goal], it’s a good time for it to come. It was a good pass by ‘Jorgy’ [Jorginho] and I just had a bit of space, so I just hit it after my first touch, and yeah, it went in, so obviously I was very happy with that. it took us in at half-time 1-0 up and in a good position.
“I’m always working on my finishing. I don’t think you can work on it enough, so yeah very happy to score one tonight but most importantly get the win. Chilwell showed great composure, to be fair. Very good finish from him, he’ll be buzzing with that.
“We definitely needed a reaction tonight [after the West Brom defeat]. After the game, we put it behind us, and we said, we need to improve. We’re getting better and better. That game was something we looked at briefly the next day, and we moved on.
“The job’s not done. We’ll be ready [for the second leg]”
    GETTY IMAGES
    WHAT’S NEXT?
Chelsea scored two away goals against Porto in the neutral ground of the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium in Seville.
That means the Dragons need to net at least two goals next week to take the game to extra-time.
If Sergio Conceicao’s men score three then they go through to the Champions League semi-finals.
If Chelsea hit the target once on Tuesday then three goals will still get Porto through automatically.
But the reigning Portuguese champions shouldn’t mind another extra-time drama as that is how they eliminated Juventus in the Round of 16
    GETTY IMAGES
    GREAT TUCH
Chelsea carry a major advantage heading to next week’s second leg in Seville against Porto.
The Blues manager Thomas Tuchel has become only the second manager to win his first three Champions League knockout matches.
The first one was Roberto Di Matteo in the 2011-2012 season that saw the west Londoners going all the way and winning the trophy.
But still, Tuchel has a lot of work to do as Porto are a fine team that eliminated Juventus and Cristiano Ronaldo in the Last 16
Advantage Chelsea! 💪Thomas Tuchel is only the second Chelsea manager to win his first three #UCL knockout games 💯The previous manager to do this was Roberto Di Matteo in 2011-12, the last time Chelsea won the competition 👀 pic.twitter.com/7roLzxT65K— Football on BT Sport (@btsportfootball) April 7, 2021

    STATS
Chelsea controlled 60 per cent of possession throughout the match at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.
Porto were lively throughout the game and produced 12 shots, five of which were on target, but failed to create any major chances.
The Blues, on the other hand, registered a mere six shots, half of which were on target.
The west Londoners were more composed as they avoided any disciplinary action compared to the “hosts” who received two yellow cards, plus one for manager Sergio Conceicao

    FT: PORTO 0-2 CHELSEA
Chelsea have made a major leap towards the Champions League semi-finals by picking up two away goals against Porto in Seville.
The Blues opened the scoring after 32 minutes when Jorginho found Mason Mount on the edge of the box and the youngster pirouetted around Chancel Mbemba, who went in early for the ball, before beating Agustin Marchesin with a fine finish.
The Dragons put together a solid performance but failed to produce any major chances with the west Londoners missing the chance to double the score early on in the second half when Kai Havertz failed in front of open goal.
But Chelsea sealed the win, and perhaps the tie, on 85 minutes when Jesus Corona gave the ball away at the back with a poor touch that led to Ben Chilwell picking it up and dribbling past Marchesin to double the “visitors'” lead

90+2 And this is how Chilwell may have sent Chelsea through to the Champions League semi-finals.
A lovely bit of movement from the full-back but also a careless moment by Corona

Expect Conceicao to shake things up real soon with a series of substitutions
    PORTO 0-1 CHELSEA
    74 YELLOW CARD
The referee brings out a yellow card for… Porto manager Conceicao!
The Dragons boss tries to get the ball with a fantastic touch down the touchline thinking it went out for a free-throw.
The ball has indeed bounced out but Conceicao did that in front of a Chelsea player
That was a lovely touch, though…

    Goodnight!
    FLICK’s TRICK
All good things must come to an end!

    KYLER BLOW
KYLIAN MBAPPE struck twice against Bayern Munich as PSG avenged last year’s heartbreak in a Champions League epic.
In a repeat of the final eight months ago, the German giants and reigning champions were 2-0 down inside 30 minutes as the Parisians smelt blood.
Neymar – who was in tears on the pitch in Lisbon – was the first leg orchestrator, providing assists for Mbappe and Marquinhos.
Bayern fought their way back either side of the break in the absence of 42-goal Robert Lewandowski thanks to Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Thomas Muller.
But French superstar Mbappe had the last laugh with a 68th-minute winner for Mauricio Pochettino’s men at a snowy Allianz.

    FT: BAYERN MUNICH 2-3 PSG
    WOW!
What a game of football, what an outstanding display from Pochettino’s free-scoring PSG!
Bayern Munich found an equaliser with Muller meeting Kimmich’s free-kick and glancing the ball past Navas.
But just eight minutes later, Mbappe put PSG back in front.
The visitors hit the defending European champions on another devastating counter attack and Mbappe finished it off with a smart finish at the near post.
This tie is far from over, Bayern will need to win in Paris by two clear goals – but it’s advantage PSG!
Next week can’t come soon enough!

    BAYERN MUNICH 2-3 PSG
    81. The pace of the game has slowed down a little bit, to be fair, it’s been relentless from the first minute.
Bayern are searching for an equaliser, but they’re lacking the end product in the final third.
    Not long left to go.

    SUAR NOTE
Atletico Madrid are sweating over the severity of Luis Suarez’s leg injury after he picked up the problem during training on Wednesday.
The 34-year-old has starred in his first season at the Wanda Metropolitano, with the striker chipping in with 19 goals and two assists in 26 LaLiga matches.
But Diego Simeone is now left fearing he may be set for an extended spell on the sidelines which could potentially cost his side winning their first LaLiga title since 2014.
The 1-0 defeat against Sevilla on Sunday saw Barcelona close the gap on Atletico to just one point at the the top of the table with just nine games left.
A club statement read: “The Uruguayan underwent tests on Wednesday that confirmed the injury.
“He’s pending response to treatment. Luis Suarez has suffered a muscle injury to the left leg.
“The striker underwent medical tests on Wednesday after feeling pain in training that confirmed the injury.”
    PEP SQWAK
Pep Guardiola has called Erling Haaland a ‘b******’ for being ‘always perfect’.
The Borussia Dortmund striker, 20, set up Marco Reus for his side’s equaliser during Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final first-leg.
When asked if he was taken aback by Dortmund’s midfield press, Guardiola told DAZN: “No, not surprised.
“I faced them when I was at Bayern Munich and they played five at the back.
“The rest of them play that system and the quality of [Mahmoud] Dahoud, [Jude] Bellingham and, of course, the pace of the people up front – the quality is there. We know it was.
“But when you want to press they play long balls. They play long balls to Haaland – Haaland is a b******.
“His link-up [play] is always perfect and they have the pace so we knew it was not easy to control them.”
    DOUBLE DEAL
Championship side Derby are on the verge of a takeover after Erik Alonso agreed to buy the club, subject to EFL approval.
Confirmed on Wednesday, the Rams were the second Football League club to change hands in just a few hours after Ipswich were sold to US investors.
Mel Morris has been attempting to sell Derby for some time but a deal with Bin Zayed Group collapsed earlier this season.
Talks with No Limits Sports lasted a number of weeks until a breakthrough with Spanish businessman Alonso, 29, who recently attempted to buy Sheffield Wednesday having worked at Hillsborough as an advisor.
The East Midlands club have confirmed the purchase will be completed when Alonso passes the EFL’s Owners and Directors Test.
    CARR CRASH
Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards went at it as the controversy storm surrounding Jude Bellingham’s disallowed goal continues to rumble.

    HARRY UP
Barcelona could turn to Harry Kane in their hunt for a new striker if Erling Haaland does not sign, according to reports in Spain.
Borussia Dortmund star Haaland has caught the eye of several clubs as his representatives hold talks with prospective bidders.
Agent Mino Raiola and father Alf-Inge Haaland have flown in for talks with both Real Madrid and Barcelona.
But Haaland’s club will seek a fee topping £150million if they are to sell him this summer, with the 20-year-old’s £68m release clause activating next year.
That could turn Barcelona to a Plan B, according to Spanish outlet Sport, who name Kane and Lautaro Martinez as such options.
SunSport revealed last week that Tottenham will refuse to sell their star striker to a Premier League rival.
A move abroad is considered slightly more palatable, although the fee of £175m would have to be negotiated down.
    HOME COMFORTS
Jurgen Klopp admitted it was ‘difficult’ playing at Real Madrid’s training ground on Tuesday night.
Liverpool were well beaten 3-1 by Los Blancos in the Champions League at Real’s Alfredo di Stefano training pitch.
Jurgen Klopp was not a fan of Real Madrid’s training ground ‘stadium’Credit: Getty
And after the game, Klopp said he was looking forward to getting back to a ‘proper stadium’ in Anfield.
He said: “It must be a really tricky task for Real Madrid at Anfield.
“This was strange tonight because it was really difficult with the stadium (at Madrid’s training ground) but Anfield is at least a proper stadium and it will be good for us.
“If you want to have some emotional memories you watch the Barcelona game back and 80 per cent of it is the atmosphere in the stadium.
“It’s not like I sit here and say ‘Comebacks are our thing’. We had supporters then and I don’t know if we can do it.”
    JESPER’S HELL
Former Chelsea star Jesper Gronkjaer has opened up on his four-year battle with depression and stress.
The Denmark winger made 119 Blues appearances, scoring 11 goals, following a £7.8million move from Ajax in 2000.

He left in 2004 to spend a year with Birmingham City, and played for Atletico Madrid, Stuttgart and Copenhagen before retiring in 2011.
Gronkjaer has since worked as a pundit for Danish TV. However he was diagnosed with depression in 2017, and spent over nine months off sick but has now come off his medication.
The 43-year-old wrote: “Last pill taken 3 3/4 years after the first … hopefully!
“You were a good support, despite all your side effects, as the stress and depression rumbled away.
“Although it was never a goal to let you out of my life, I think it is the right time. #depression #stress #burnout.”
    MARTIAL FLAW
Manchester United hitman Anthony Martial is set to miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury, according to manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The France international injured his left knee in France’s World Cup qualifier with Kazakhstan late last month, which they won 2-0.
Anthony Martial may not be seen again this seasonCredit: Getty
And Solskjaer reckons his latest setback could rule him out for the remainder of the campaign.
The Norwegian told MUTV: “Unfortunately, he sprained his knee with France.
“It’s always when they go away on internationals… you can keep your fingers crossed and hope they come back fit.
“Paul [Pogba] has played in all three games, 30, 60, 90 minutes, so that was a boost for us.
“Losing Anthony for what might be the rest of the season is very disappointing, especially when reports from there [France] was that it wasn’t anything serious but it looks a bad one.”
    TIER-FUL
Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney has suffered ligament damage in his left knee but does NOT need surgery.
There were fears as he limped off after a collision with Liverpool’s James Milner on Saturday that he had done serious damage.

The Scot, 23, is expected to be out of action for at least a month.
But the Gunners hope to have the ex-Celtic defender back in full training in four to six weeks.
Tierney has made 33 appearances this season, chipping in with two goals and four assists.
He missed six matches earlier this year through another knee injury.
    KEEP FIGHTING
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told David De Gea to rise to the challenge set by Dean Henderson.
De Gea, 30, was left on the bench for Sunday’s 2-1 win over Brighton as the Manchester United boss went for Henderson in the clearest indication yet of who will be his No1 for next season.
But with De Gea set to play in the Europa League quarter-final first leg against Granada Solskjaer says the chance is there to change this mind.
Solskjaer said: “When you are part of Manchester United you are always going to have players coming in.
“They have not come here to fill the bench or the squad. Everyone has got the ambition to fill your shirt.
“I was there as a striker when we signed Dwight Yorke, Teddy Sheringham, Louis Saha, Ruud van Nistelrooy.
“The aim for me then is to prove to the manager that you might have made a new signing but I am still going to give it everything I can to play. David has had ten years here and had challenges.”
    ATTILA THE ONE
Leicester City are reportedly chasing Fenerbahce star Attila Szalai – and the Foxes would make the defender the most expensive Hungarian player of all time.
According to Blikk via Sport Witness, the Premier League side are keen to get a deal over the line when the transfer market reopens this summer.
Leicester could make Attila Szalai the most expensive Hungarian star everCredit: AFP
However, it is thought the East Midlanders are yet to make a formal approach.
The report adds the Turkish outfit would demand £21.5million for the 23-year-old centre-back.
That would eclipse the £18m RB Leipzig paid Red Bull Salzburg for Dominik Szoboszlai in the winter window.
Szalai joined Fenerbahce on a four-and-a-half-year, £1.7m deal in January from Cypriot outfit Apollon Limassol.
The ten-cap senior Hungary international has four goals and three assists in 32 appearances this season.
    TURKISH DELIGHT
Fenerbahce are in talks to sign Christian Benteke on a free transfer, according to reports.
The Crystal Palace striker is out of contract in the summer with no sign of a new deal on the horizon.
Benteke, 30, has spent five years at Selhurst Park but has struggled for goals with 28 goals in 139 games.
And Palace are prepared to take a big hit on the striker they paid £32million for in 2016.
According to Turkish publication Takvim, Fenerbahce have already held positive talks with Benteke’s agent.
The Turkish giants want to bolster their frontline as they look set to be pipped by Besiktas to the league title.
Fenerbahce are also eyeing Porto’s Moussa Marega on a free transfer in a double deal of strikers.
    BRU LOW
Bruno Fernandes moaned Manchester United are not good enough to win trophies in a damning assessment of their season.
He appeared on talkSPORT on Wednesday morning and said: “The improvement you have to see game by game not season by season. For us, it is improving as a team.
Bruno Fernandes is desperate for silverwareCredit: Getty
“Of course we want to win trophies, we want to win everything we are included in. At the moment, we are not at that level this season.
“We have lost a lot of games. We have lost games we don’t expect to lose and have lost a lot of points at home and away our form is really, really different.
“I don’t remember if we have lost one game away. We are improving and this season is not finished and we have a lot to do until the end of the season.”
    EUR IN LUCK
Manchester United youngster Anthony Elanga is in contention to face Granada on Thursday after being added to the club’s Europa League squad.
The 18-year-old winger – who has chipped in with eight goals and three assists for the U23s this season – will fly out with the squad to Spain on Wednesday.
Anthony Elanga could make his first team debut on Thursday
United issued a statement on their website where they announced the Sweden youth international has been added to their ‘B’ list for the Uefa competition.
Under Uefa rules, homegrown players are allowed to be added to a club’s Europa League squad, and Elanga has been included after recovering from a collarbone injury.
Elanga – who has been at United since the age of 12 – penned a new contract at Old Trafford last month after rising through the yanks.
He was awarded the prestigious Jimmy Murphy Youth Team Player of the Year award in September after banging in seven goals in nine U18 Premier League matches.
He got a taste of first-team football under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last summer when he came on as a substitute in the pre-season clash against Aston Villa.
    NORTHERN SOUL
Gareth Southgate is taking England to former club Middlesbrough for the final Euro 2020 tune-ups.
The Three Lions will play two friendlies at the Riverside Stadium in June ahead of the summer showpiece.
England take on Austria on Wednesday 2 June and that will be followed by a clash with Romania on Sunday 6 June.
England have usually travelled across the country in the build-up to tournaments over recent years.
But SunSport understands that Southgate and his squad will be staying at Rockcliffe Hall, owned by Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson, throughout their stint on Teesside instead.
And that will allow them to use Boro’s state-of-the-art Hurworth training ground, which is based next door to the luxury hotel and golf complex.
England last played at the Riverside back in 2003 with Southgate starring in defence for his country.
    NO ROOM FOR RACISM
Liverpool have released a damning statement after Trent Alexander-Arnold and Naby Keita received sickening racist abuse online after last night’s 3-1 Champions League defeat away to Real Madrid.
It read: “Once again we are sadly discussing abhorrent racial abuse the morning after a football game. It is utterly unacceptable and it has to stop.
“LFC condemns all forms of discrimination and we continue to work with our inclusion partners through our Red Together initiative to campaign against it.
“As a club we will offer our players any and all support they may require. We will also work with the relevant authorities to identify and, if possible, prosecute those responsible.
“We know that this will not be enough until strongest possible preventative measures are taken by social media platforms and the regulatory bodies which govern them.
“The current situation cannot be allowed to continue and it is incumbent on all of us to ensure that it does not.”
    NO PLACE LIKE HOME
Kevin De Bruyne is proud to have signed an extension at Man City where he hopes to play until he gets ‘really old’.

    PET PEEVE
Arsenal must focus on shedding HALF of the dressing room after a woefully disappointing season, Emmanuel Petit has claimed.
The Frenchman, 50, won the Premier League in his first of three years at the club and is dismayed by their current situation with the Gunners in TENTH.
Emmanuel Petit urged old side Arsenal to axe half the squadCredit: Getty – Contributor
He told Ladbrokes at the launch of its 5-A-Side Bet: “When I look at the older players in the team, it’s like they think it’s a retreat football club, somewhere you just go for a vacation.
“They have ambition, but I don’t really expect them to win big games anymore. If you took away the name ‘Arsenal’ and looked at that group of players… average.
“At the end of the season, if I’m Arsenal, if I’m Arteta, if I’m on the board, to be honest with you, I think my main concern is getting half of the dressing room out. Honestly.
“I like the young players, but they need to be surrounded by the likes of Lee Dixon and Tony Adams, those personalities.
“It’s a simple science but if there’s one thing I’ve learnt as a footballer, it’s that you become a better player when you play with better players!”
    BRUING UP A STORM
Bruno Fernandes has claimed one trophy is not enough for a club like Manchester United.
The Portuguese midfielder has been a revelation since arrived at Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020.
On talkSPORT, Trevor Sinclair asked the ace whether second place in the Prem and winning the Europa League would count as a successful season.
And Fernandes replied: “It is never successful when you win just one trophy with this club.
    “You always have to improve.”
    CITY SLICKER
Hear from Kevin De Bruyne after he committed his future to the Citizens.
The Belgian maestro, 29, said: “Pep and I see football in the same way. Having that relationship with a manager is so important to me because our objectives are totally aligned, and we want the same things.
“This football club is geared for success. It offers me everything I need to maximise my performance, so signing this contract was a straightforward decision.
“I am playing the best football of my career and I honestly feel there is more to come.
“I could not be happier. Since joining City in 2015, I have felt at home. I love the fans; my family are settled here in Manchester and my own game has developed really well.
“My focus now is on ensuring we have a successful end to the current campaign.
“Our results and performances so far have been excellent, but we need to make sure we end the season with the silverware we deserve.”
    GOOD BRUY
Kevin De Bruyne has finally confirmed he is staying at Man City with the midfielder now set to cash in more than the £300,000 a week he is currently on.
The Belgian has agreed to extend his stay by four years with the Premier League leaders until 2025 – meaning he will have spent a decade with the club.
Kevin De Bruyne has signed a four-year extension at the Etihad
SunSport reported on March 10 that an agreement was edging closer after KdB knocked back the first offer – and they shook hands on the agreement earlier this week.
    HAKAN PLAN
Arsenal and Chelsea are in the transfer race for Hakan Calhanoglu, according to reports.
The AC Milan midfielder, 27, is out of contract at the end of the season so will become a free agent this summer.
Arsenal and Chelsea are battling it out for AC Milan ace Hakan CalhanogluCredit: Getty Images – Getty
And according to Sky Sport Italia, the Premier League pair are battling it out to land the Turkish international with both making offers.
But they face competition from Serie A giants Juventus.
The Old Lady are in pole position to secure Calhanoglu and will table a better deal as soon as they are officially allowed.
AC Milan tried to get Calhanoglu to extend his four-year stay at the San Siro.
But while they offered a new deal worth £66,000 per week, the former Bayer Leverkusen man wants in excess of £82,500 per week.
    KON THEY GET HIM?
Manchester United are reportedly set to lock horns with Liverpool for RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate.
Jurgen Klopp has had well-documented issues at centre-half, with first choices Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip out for the season.

    JUR FUMING
Jurgen Klopp blasted referee Felix Brych’s performance in the Champions League quarter-final and accused him of making ‘personal’ decisions against Sadio Mane.
The Liverpool boss, 53, saw his side slump to a 3-1 defeat away at Real Madrid in the first leg on Tuesday night.
One particular incident saw Mane brought down by last-man Lucas Vazquez – and 27 seconds later Marco Asensio scored before Mane was booked for tripping Vazquez.
Klopp fumed: “The situation with Sadio – what the ref did tonight I don’t understand.
“For me that was something personal because he dealt with the situation with Sadio, which was a clear foul, like he was a diver or whatever.
“From that moment on whenever Sadio went down he didn’t get anything. That is not right.
“That is what I told him after the game, that I thought he was unfair with Sadio.”
    ZIN TO TURIN
Zinedine Zidane has dropped a huge hint he wants to manage Juventus.
The Real Madrid boss confessed the Italian giants will ‘always be important to me’.
Zidane, 48, spent five seasons as a player with the Old Lady between 1996 and 2001.
And asked whether he missed Italy and would return there as a manager, he certainly did not rule it out.
The Frenchman said: “Italy is always in the heart. Juve has always been important to me.
“I don’t know (laughs). For now I’m here. Let’s see.”

    HEADING AWAY
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes the art of heading is becoming a thing of the past due to the dementia crisis in football.
Mason Greenwood nodded home the winner against Brighton on Sunday to keep Manchester United in second place and on course for a Champions League spot.
Solskjaer said: “If you look at players and look at the news now and the issue with dementia and too much heading, I think kids nowadays train less with heading than we used to do.
“Also with the astroturf and coaching it is very much more on the ground dominated.
“You don’t see many Ronaldo like headers like against Roma when he hangs in the air and heads.
“That is a rare player now who has that skill. Mason’s goal [against Brighton] was more a poachers instinct, he made a sharp movement it was not like he hung in the air.”

    BRU LOW
Bruno Fernandes moaned Manchester United are not good enough to win trophies in a damning assessment of their season.
He appeared on talkSPORT on Wednesday morning and said: “The improvement you have to see game by game not season by season. For us, it is improving as a team.

    FERGIE TIME
Sir Alex Ferguson can celebrate another win in Liverpool this Saturday – thanks to his Grand National runner.
The Manchester United legend’s horse Give Me A Copper is set to run in the world’s most famous race.
The horse, who Fergie co-owns with four others, has been targeted at the big one since 2019.
Give Me A Copper is currently a 50-1 shot for the 40-runner contest on Saturday.
    EUR IN LUCK
Manchester United youngster Anthony Elanga is in contention to face Granada on Thursday after being added to the club’s Europa League squad.
The 18-year-old winger – who has chipped in with eight goals and three assists for the U23s this season – will fly out with the squad to Spain on Wednesday.

    BELL RINGING
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand branded Jude Bellingham the ‘real deal’ after his scintillating performance against Manchester City.
And former Red Devil Owen Hargreaves believes the Borussia Dortmund ace must start for England at the Euros.
Ferdinand tweeted: “Bellingham aka the real deal… has put on a clinic….a teenager! Driving licence still not through yet I think.”
Speaking before kick-off, Hargreaves said: “I think Bellingham will start for Gareth [Southgate] at the Euros.
“His all-around game is so good, he plays like a grown man. He’s already a star and he’s going to be one of the best in a short time.”

    NEW ZIDANE?
Manchester United have handed a first professional contract to teenage midfielder Zidane Iqbal.
The star will turn 18 on April 27 and is set for a big future.
The Manchester-born ace has bagged two goals in 9 Under-18 games this term.

    HELLO DIOGO?
Diogo Dalot could be heading back to Manchester United, according to reports.
The Red Devils sent the full-back on loan to AC Milan in October but the Portuguese ace has struggled for game time.

And after United booted Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Co out of the Europa League, the 22-year-old has an even more peripheral role.
Italian outlet Calcio Mercato carries the headline ‘Farewell Diogo’ as it reports Milan will not be making any great effort to hang onto the loanee at the end of the season.
    WILL’S WAYS
Young left-back Brandon Williams opened up on his pre-game superstitions.

    HAALAND VS MAN CITY ANALYSIS
    By Neil Custis
After a week when he was being hawked around Europe this was the night for Erling Haaland to show what he was made of.
So we turned up, if you were lucky enough, turned on, if you were the rest of us, and waited, and waited on a night that fell flat for the striker.
The point is he was playing against, not for, City and that was the problem.
The chances presented to the home side would no doubt have been gobbled up by the son of their former player.
    That’s what City need too.
Forget all the hipster joy about the false nine.
Every team still needs that scorer, that poacher.
It is also what neighbours Manchester United are missing.

    KON THEY GET HIM?
United are reportedly set to lock horns with Liverpool for RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate.
Jurgen Klopp has had well-documented issues at centre-half, with first choices Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip out for the season.

    GOOD MORNING UTD FANS
The Red Devils are one of the clubs that can afford to sign Erling Haaland, according to reports.
Dortmund are said to be looking for an offer of around £150m to part company with the Norwegian this summer – and The Athletic claim that fee would be in the club’s price range.
However, whether the deal can be pushed over the line or not depends on how willing United are to go back into business with Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola.
Raiola has exasperated senior figures at Old Trafford by claiming Paul Pogba wants to leave on numerous occasions.
Meanwhile, Southampton would like to revisit a loan move for Manchester United whizkid Brandon Williams.
Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl wants more depth in the full-back areas and likes Williams’ ability to play both on the left and right.
Hasenhuttl tried to borrow Williams, 20, from United in January but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refused to let him go.
Southampton are hopeful Solskjaer will reconsider his stance for next season though, with Williams starting just three games this term.
And finally, West Ham will reportedly do whatever it takes to try and sign Jesse Lingard from Manchester United permanently this summer.
The England star has rediscovered his top form on loan at the Hammers as he scored six goals in eight league games.
A senior West Ham source told Sky Sports: “We will do whatever it takes to sign him.
    “He’s been outstanding for us.”
    THE PRICE IS WRONG
Manchester United are closing in on Jadon Sancho, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
However, the Red Devils have yet to agree a free with Borussia Dortmund.
Romano told the Here We Go podcast: “Manchester United have everything set to sign Jadon Sancho this summer – they are just waiting for the final price.”

    FATHER TALK
Charlie Savage hopes to go one better than his old man — and make the grade at Manchester United.
But the 17-year-old midfielder says Scott McTominay, not his dad Robbie, is the main inspiration behind his goal to reach the Old Trafford first team.
He told SunSport: “The main inspiration for me is Scott — he’s the best with us. He comes over to talk to us. He had it difficult in the youth team.
“He didn’t play many matches but he just kept going and he proved it’s not always the standout players who make the first team.
“Sometimes it’s the players who might have had a back seat but they keep pushing and pushing.
“Scott, Marcus Rashford and also Brandon Williams all inspire us to improve and move forward.”
    HAAL OF FAME
Manchester United are one of the clubs that can afford to sign Erling Haaland, according to reports.

    WILL I NEVER
Southampton would like to revisit a loan move for Manchester United whizkid Brandon Williams.
Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl wants more depth in the full-back areas and likes Williams’ ability to play both on the left and right.
