SUNNY EDWARDS is the new IBF flyweight world champion after outclassing South Africa’s Moruti Mthalane .The Brit was brilliant as he won by unanimous decision 118-111, 120-108, 115-113.
Meanwhile on the undercard Kieran Smith required oxygen after a brutal KO from Troy Williamson.
And Michael Conlan was given a big scare by Ionut Baluta but came through on points.
    Full results

    Sunny Edwards beat Moruti Mthalane
    Michael Conlan beat Ionut Baluta
    Troy Williamson beat Kieran Smith
    Ryan Garner beat Jordan Ellison
    Joshua Frankham beat Naheem Ali

    EDWARDS’ PROMOTER FRANK WARREN SPEAKS
‘It was a masterclass, the art of boxing, hitting and not being hit.
One of the best performances I’ve seen by a British boxer in years.
He’s the No1 flyweight in the world. We have the No1 heavyweight and No1 flyweight, how about that?
If Floyd [Mayweather] was watching that he would have been impressed, absolute masterclass.
My concern was that he would start trading with him, he could either make it a hard fight or an easy fight, and he made it easy.’
    SUNNY EDWARDS SPEAKS
Nothing less than i expected, I been saying it all the way through.
We were friends before, hopefully we still are.
I knew it would be hard, he was very good at closing the gaps down, if I’m honest I had it 7-5, 8-4.
120-108 wasn’t fair, I deserved to win, their corner knew it.
It might not be pretty all the time, but I am very hard to beat.
I hit them hard enough to keep off but my god my legs after that sixth round were tired like they never been before.
Grant (coach) kept reminding me my kids name, that’s when you know it isn’t going the best.
His sharpness fell in the last three rounds. When i started letting the hands through that’s when I scored.
I weren’t worried, I’ve never ever been stopped, I’ve only put down two times, getting stopped isn’t in my thought process and hopefully it never will be.
He made my ears ‘ding’ a couple of times, he must have something wrong with his hands because those gloves were bouncing off like pillows.”
    STUNNING SUNNY
BT Sport pundits for the night Joe Joyce and Callum Johnson are stunned with a beautiful performance from Edwards.
Mthalane never once looked like he could KO Edwards.
You can’t hit what you can’t catch.
SUNNY EDWARDS WINS! NEW WORLD CHAMP!
The judges give it 118-111, 120-108, 115-113 to the Brit and Mthalane is deposed as champ.
Supreme performance, tears of joy for Edwards, a world champ at 25.
SURELY, SURELY WE HAVE A NEW WORLD CHAMP…
A beautiful, mesmerising, polished performance from Edwards there.
It should be a wide margin win on the scorecards.
    Should.
    ROUND TWELVE
Mthalane knows he needs the KO – but he hasn’t looked close to it at any point.
Edwards still keeps out of range, his fitness is incredible.
Mthalane trying everything to nail Edwards, but he’s never in range.
What a performance from Edwards here – there is only ONE way this is going!
    ROUND ELEVEN
Now Mthalane REALLY throws the kitchen sink at Edwards.
The Brit finally looks tired, he needs to stay on his toes and keep up the footwork.
The champ is coming on strong here, landing a few but nothing to rock Edwards.
    ROUND TEN
Some big breaths there from Edwards, and he’s back out for the championship rounds.
Edwards with his arms down the sides as he slips out the way of a Mthalane assault, but he needs to keep his defences up.
Mthalane hell for leather now, but just too messy in there to catch the judges’ eye.
    ROUND NINE
Nice body shot from Edwards, Mthalane looks a bit dejected in there.
You’d think it would have to be a punch in a million to change the way this is going.
Glancing left landed by the champ, but no damage caused.
A couple of meaty body shots landed by Mthalane, as Edwards definitely slows.
    ROUND EIGHT
Mthalane lunges forward looking for a shot to turn the fight.
But it’s industrious at best, with the fighters’ heads coming close there.
Edwards judges the distance beautifully to escape another desperate lunge.
    ROUND SEVEN
Mthalane swinging bombs now, even he looks like he knows he needs to win every round.
Edwards definitely not moving quite as fleet-footed, but still elusive enough.
Mthalane just not doing enough, doesn’t like he has the ‘dig’ in his punches tonight.
    ROUND SIX
Edwards maintaining his concentration here, making Mthalane miss and then catching him on combination counters.
The South African is getting closer now, was he prepared to lose the first few rounds to tire Edwards out?
Mthalane has more joy as he finally gets up close and personal, but lacking his customary power.
Edwards relying on single and quickfire doubles, but tappy tappy.
    ROUND FIVE
Edwards is like a ballerina in there, leaving Mthalane completely flummoxed.
Edwards back to the centre when he is pushed to the ropes, the champ is being completely outworked and outhought.
Five down and five in the bag for Edwards.
    ROUND FOUR
Edwards on his toes throughout, but Mthalane connects nicely.
But the South African does not look too happy in there, he’s looking his age against Edwards at the moment.
Needs to work out how to slow Edwards down – nothing he is trying at the moment is working.
    ROUND THREE
Some lovely combos land from Edwards, and manages to get out of danger in time too.
But it will be difficult to see him keeping up this pace for the duration.
Edwards mixes up nice body shots while changing from orthodox to southpaw.
    ROUND TWO
Mthalane still on the front foot, but not really doing a lot.
Edwards using his fast feet to spin out of range and land counters when needed.
But Mthalane connects with his first big right, half-flush at least.
    Might be 2-0 here now.
    ROUND ONE
Fast start from Edwards, who has started nice and positive on the back foot.
Already making his opponent miss, and switching styles.
Looks like Mthalane is trying to work Edwards out – he better do it quickly.
MTHLANE ENTERS THE RING ALL THE WAY FROM SOUTH AFRICA
The champ hasn’t lost a fight since 2008.
That shows the task at hand for Edwards.
    EDWARDS OUT FIRST
Looking as confident as you would expect.
    Can he upset the odds?
    IT’S MAIN EVENT TIME!!
Sunny Edwards is the underdog heading into his date with destiny against Moruti Mthalane.
Can he win the world flyweight title?
    CONLAN REACTION
‘He was tougher than I thought, but he was missing loads of punches.
‘I don’t think it was that close, but it was good preparation for what is to come.
‘He held his engine more than I thought he would. It was the perfect kind of test.’
    CONLAN WINS DECISION
As expected the Belfast icon takes it but only with two of the ringside officials.
    They saw it: 114-114, 115-114 and 117-112.
There was one draw in there but thankfully it had no impact on the result.
    ROUND TWELVE
Baluta tumbles to te floor for the FOURTH time but it is from a trip and not a punch.
Conlan cracks him with precision punches but he keeps marching forward and overloading with haymakers.
Baluta down for time number FIVE but it is called a slip again despite cries from Team Conlan that it was the result of a bodyblow.
All over – excellent fight. Conlan should get the nod.
    ROUND ELEVEN
It’s getting rough and ragged now asd both men over-extend with right hands.
Conlan is still ducking and dancing, Baluta is still hurling wild shots.
The Belfast hero picks off his man with a couple of counters that score but do not scar.
Excellent counter shot from Conlan cracks Baluta’s chin but the man is made of steel.
    ROUND TEN
Baluta is still throwing so many shots, his energy is stunning.
But Conlan is measured and clever and ice cold.
Neither man looks capable of ending this one early, especially after expending so much energy already.
Conlan scores with a one-two right down the nose of Baluta on the bell.

Derek Chisora vs Joseph Parker LIVE RESULTS: Del Boy may REFUSE to fight following weigh-in row – latest updates

DEREK CHISORA faces Joseph Parker in a massive heavyweight clash in Manchester this weekend. But there has been chaos at the weigh-in with Del Boy saying he will REFUSE to fight if he has to ring walk first.
Before the main event on Saturday night there’s a mammoth undercard featuring Katie Taylor vs Natasha Jonas, Chris Eubank Jr and Campbell Hatton.
We’ll be bringing you ALL of the thrills and spills from the Manchester Arena right here!

Fight start time: Saturday, 10pm BST
TV/ live stream: Sky Sports Box Office

Follow all of the latest updates and fight build up below…
    GOOD BUDDY
Derek Chisora’s trainer Buddy McGirt has lifted the lid on his fighter’s best strategy for beating Joseph Parker.
He told the Guardian: “A lot of Derek’s fights have been real wars.
“And one guy you can never beat is Father Time. I know we can’t change Derek’s style – which is rough and rugged – but I can prepare him and look after him.
“Derek’s a real good guy but fighters never want to give up until it’s almost too late.
“I’ve seen enough adversity to know you have to be smart. I’ve told him there is only one way to win.
“He’s gotta turn it into a dogfight. It won’t be pretty but he will try his heart out. I will be there, all the time, watching out for him.”

    END OF WAR
Derek Chisora has discussed what his plans when he eventually hangs up his gloves.
He told the Independent: “When I retire I’m going to have a bonfire in my house.
“Burn all my gloves, everything I won as an amateur. A proper bonfire night and burn everything.
“Sometimes boxing doesn’t look after their own so for me to hold onto boxing as much as others do, I won’t. If I ever retire I will have a big bonfire, put it on my Instagram and delete my account after that.”
    PARTY POOPER
Eddie Hearn admitted he ‘s*** himself’ when heavyweight ace Dereck Chisora came at him.
Hearn was speaking on the panel of A League of Their Own when he recalled the hilarious story.
Cricket legend Freddie Flintoff asked him: “Has a boxer ever come at you?”
And Hearn responded: “Chisora’s come out at me a couple of times… I absolutely s*** myself.
“It was after that incident, after I had told him to calm down.”
    TALE OF THE TAPE
Here’s a reminder of how the two fighters compare…

    KICKING OFF
Derek Chisora has threatened to pull out of his clash with Joseph Parker if he’s forced to walk to the ring first.
Del Boy is set to throw down with the former WBO heavyweight champion tomorrow night in Manchester.
During his final pre-fight interview with Sky Sports, he said: “We’re having an argument.
“They wanna do a coin flip [for] who comes in the ring first and who comes in the ring second.
“I’m was like, ‘Nah, not doing that.’
“Either I come in second or I go home right now.”

    WILD POWER
Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury will not fight each other without Deontay Wilder giving them the green light, claimed Derek Chisora.
He told DAZN: “My opinion, I keep telling everyone, you have to understand Deontay Wilder signed a three-fight deal with Tyson.
“Pandemic came, and shut everything down, AJ had his fight with Kubrat Pulev, and the whole hype thing happened with his fight with Fury.
“But don’t forget the three-fight deal with Wilder. It’s not going to happen because he has to fight with Wilder before everything else.
“So Wilder says I’ll stand aside for 80 million. The fight only happens when Tyson Fury fights Deontay Wilder.”

    DEL RAISER
Team Chisora are reportedly packing their bags and threatening to leave the bubble unless Derek gets his way and walks second tomorrow.
Del Boy has never been afraid of courting controversy inside and outside the ring.
One of boxing’s more colourful characters, he has divided opinion throughout his career.
From kissing a rival during a weigh-in to dressing up like famed offender Charlie Bronson, CLICK HERE for Chisora’s most controversial moments.
    PACKING UP
Team Chisora are reportedly packing their bags and threatening to leave the bubble unless Derek gets his way and walks second.
    This is crazy.
spoke to David Haye just now. Team Chisora are packing up his stuff in boxes . Really messed up situation— Kugan Cassius (@KuganCassius) April 30, 2021

    DEAD SERIOUS
According to his promoter David Haye, Derek Chisora is serious about leaving the bubble.
He said: I genuinely can’t see the fight happening if Dereck’s told to come in first.
“I know it makes zero sense. He just doesn’t care.”
    STACKED CARD
Tomorrow night’s card promised to be a cracker with the likes of Derek Chisora, Dmitry Bivol, Katie Taylor and Chris Eubank Jr on deck.

    DEL BOY FUMES
Derek Chisora certainly isn’t messing about when it comes to the ring walks.

    KICKING OFF
Derek Chisora has lost his rag at he prospect of walking to the ring first tomorrow.
Dereck Chisora has just walked out of his interview immediately after the Joseph Parker weigh-in: “We’re having an argument, they wanna do a coin flip [for] who comes in the ring first/second. Nah, not doing that. Either I come in second or I go home right now.” [@SkySports]— Michael Benson (@MichaelBensonn) April 30, 2021

    VAN DE CHEEK
Donny van de Beek’s fellow Manchester United star Jackie Groenen has teased her compatriot over his lack of minutes this season.
The former Ajax star hasn’t started a league game in 2021 and has only played more than 20 minutes on one occasion since the start of December.
However, his Dutch compatriot Groenen, who signed for United’s Women team in 2019, revealed the 24-year-old is enjoying himself in England.
But the midfielder, 26, couldn’t resist poking fun at Van de Beek after she made her debut at The Theatre of Dreams under Casey Stoney last month.
Groenen told ESPN: “I joked the other day by telling him that I’ve played Old Trafford more times than he has.
“I think he’s having a good time, so it must be fine. I talk to him regularly.”

    FAN-DEMONIUM
Every Premier League team will be allowed fans in their stadium before the end of the season after an entire round of fixtures were moved.
Prem chiefs today confirmed that match week 37 set for Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 May will take place a few days later.
The round will now be played on Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 May – one day after the latest lockdown restrictions lift.
From Monday 17 May sports teams can host up to 10,000 fans or 25 per cent of stadium capacity.
That meant that teams scheduled at home on the final day of the season on Sunday 23 May could’ve potentially had an unfair advantage.
But the Premier League today moved the penultimate set of fixtures – meaning the 10 away sides on the final day will now have a midweek home game with fans.
    TELE ME MORE
ITV are preparing a bid to bring top flight English football back to free-to-air TV as they contemplate buying a stake in BT Sport, according to reports.
It was revealed earlier this week that BT Sport was being put up for sale.
And streaming platforms Amazon, Disney and DAZN were all touted as potential buyers for the TV network in a deal that would be worth billions.
But according to The Telegraph, ITV have now emerged as another possible buyer.
Both ITV and BT Sport have attempted to diversify in recent times, with ITV a partner in YouView and BT considering investing in ITV’s streaming service BritBox.
BT Sport is believed to be worth around £2billion.
    ALLEG UP
Juventus are reportedly set to hire old coach Max Allegri and rebuild their squad around Paulo Dybala rather than Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Old Lady’s decade of Serie A dominance has come crumbling down under the stewardship of Andrea Pirlo.
And now the Bianconeri are struggling to even secure the vital fourth Champions League qualifying spot despite having claimed nine Scudettos on the bounce.
Juve are level on points with Napoli in third and AC Milan in fifth with five games of the season to go and Pirlo has been warned he faces the sack if he fails to secure a spot in Europe’s premier competition.
Gazzetta reports there is set to be a ‘sweet revolution’ in Turin this summer with 53-year-old Allegri potentially returning to the helm.
If he returns, here’s how SunSport’s Joshua Jones reckons they may line up…

    SAM’S PAIN
Ralph Hasenhuttl has claimed it will be a ‘miracle’ if Sam McQueen plays football again.
The Southampton left-back, 26, hasn’t featured since picking up a horror ACL injury in October 2018 while on loan with Middlesbrough.
Hasenhuttl told Prost International: “His knee is good. He had some other problems, it’s a very long story to be honest.
“I’ve never had a situation where I was coming to the club and never see a player [not] playing for two-and-a-half years now. Since I’m here I’ve never seen him on the pitch.
“But when you know the infection on his knee and how things are going on then its even now a wonder that he’s able to play football or maybe one time will be able to play football again.
“We don’t know if he will ever return back to the pitch but if [he does] then it is a miracle.”

    KA-PAU
Manchester United are in ‘advanced’ talks to sign Villarreal defender Pau Torres, according to reports.
The Red Devils are searching for a long-term centre-back partner for club captain Harry Maguire.
And according to El Larguero they are closing in on Torres as they hope to secure his signature before he joins up with the Spain squad for Euro 2020 in June.
It has also been reported that while Real Madrid were interested in him, they are now ‘resigned’ to the fact that he is heading to Old Trafford.
Torres’ release clause is currently £43.4million, but that rises to £56.4m in the final 15 days of the summer transfer window.
    AND THE OSCAR GOES TO…
Barcelona have extended the contract of academy graduate Oscar Mingueza to 2023.
The defender, 21, has played 36 times in his debut campaign.

    CHRIST IS IN
Andreas Christensen wants to stay at Chelsea ‘for the long run’ but is yet to put pen to paper on a new Blues deal.
Christensen – who is contracted until 2022 – told the club’s website: “I’ve shown that I’m here for the long run.
“I’ve been here almost nine, ten years now. I’ve never doubted my decision [to come to Chelsea] and I’ve always been here for the long run.
“I accept that the club sometimes changes managers, and that can make it hard to always be in the team.
“There have not been any talks [on a contract extension] yet, but like I said, I’m in this for the long run and I always have been.”
    STICK YOUR BEEK IN
Manchester United have reportedly offered a swap deal that would see Donny van de Beek leave the club.
Roma lost to the Red Devils last night and have been given the opportunity to sign the Dutchman in exchange for Nicolo Zaniolo.
La Repubblica detail that deal – which the Serie A side are not interested in due to Zaniolo’s importance to the team.

    IT’S AL OVER
Barcelona’s move for David Alaba has collapsed after he made it clear he will sign for Real Madrid.
The Bayern Munich defender is out of contract in the summer and several clubs have been linked.
But the Blaugrana’s approach was rebuffed, according to ESPN, after his intention was discovered.
    EDI, SET, GO!
Edinson Cavani is reportedly ready to commit his future to Manchester United.
ESPN report on the Uruguayan deciding to stay in England despite huge questions over his future, ahead of his contract expiring.
It is said he has ‘doubts’ over Boca Juniors’ willingness to meet his demands.
And a contract renewal could be announced next week.

    EXCLUSIVE
Newcastle are on the trail of highly-rated Huddersfield midfielder Lewis O’Brien and could make a move this summer, writes Ian Murtagh.
With the pandemic hitting transfer budgets across all four divisions, managers are having to cut their cloth accordingly.
And Toon chief Steve Bruce sees O’Brien as a player who could strengthen his squad without costing a fortune.
Joe Willock is Bruce’s No1 target after his goalscoring heroics since arriving on loan from Arsenal but Newcastle could struggle to match the Gunners’ £20million valuation.
Gunners youngster Willock, 21, scored a last-minute equaliser against reigning champs Liverpool last week to add to his goals against West Ham and Spurs of late.
But O’Brien has emerged as a less expensive option.

    OH CO ON THEN
Manchester United, Arsenal, Napoli, Juventus, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid and MORE have all had their interest piqued by news that Bayern Munich are open to selling Corentin Tolisso.
According to Kicker, the German giants will consider bids ahead of his contract expiring in 2022.
An injury has kept France international Tolisso on the sidelines since February.

    TROUBLE BRU-ING
Steve Bruce is braced for interest in ‘special’ Allan Saint-Maximin this summer.
The French winger, under contract to 2026, has transformed Newcastle since returning from injury at the beginning of April to leave the Magpies nine points clear of the drop.
Toon boss Bruce said: “I have no doubt he will attract interest because you only have to watch him once to realise he’s a really gifted, talented footballer.
“He’s one of them that will get you off your set, and how many have got that these days?
“He scored a goal in training the other day which was just remarkable. He does that, where we all just have to stand and applaud.
“You can see when he’s playing and playing injury free then he’s a special, special talent which inevitably will draw interest. But the last thing we want to be doing is selling our best players.”
    JACKED UP
Jack Grealish has delivered a timely boost to Aston Villa and England by returning to training.
However the 25-year-old Villa skipper will miss his 11th game on the spin against Everton as he continues his battle back from a painful shin injury.
Villa’s iconic skipper has already resumed training on his own and is now ready to rejoin his teammates next week after receiving positive results from his latest scan.
Boss Dean Smith revealed: “Jack showed a positive scan. He won’t be available for this weekend.
“We’re obviously a little bit tentative after the last time so he’s doing gradual loading. He’s working on his own at the moment. It’s a loading stress injury so we can’t rush him.”

    BREAKING
Prem clubs will be allowed 500 away fans inside stadiums for the final two matches of the season.
With lockdown rules being relaxed in sporting venues, clubs are preparing to welcome fans back into grounds across the country.
Turnstiles are being reopened from May 17 with 25 per cent of full capacity – or a maximum 10,000 fans – able to finally watch their side in action. And it has been revealed by the Times that 500 of those will also be away supporters.
The Premier League’s chief exec Richard Masters has written to the 20 clubs to confirm the plans.
The letter declares: “Government has informed us that, as Covid-19 indicators continue to improve, it is planning to relax the ‘no away fans’ stipulation from the Stage Five Guidance, governing the playing of our final match rounds in season 2020-21.
“The Executive proposes an away ticket allocation of 5 per cent of available capacity (a maximum of 500 away fans) at round 37 and 38 matches, respecting the £30 away ticket price cap.”
    DIKE OKAY
Orlando City have confirmed Barnsley WILL have Daryl Dike available for the Championship play-offs.
The star striker is on loan from the MLS club and his original deal was due to finish at the end of the season, which has been extended by the Yorkshire side’s fantastic form.
An Orlando statement read: “Orlando City SC and EFL Championship side Barnsley F.C. have reached an agreement. Daryl Dike, the 20-year-old player, will remain on loan through the end of the EFL Championship Playoffs.”

UK culture secretary Oliver Dowden has written in The Sun to detail his plans for Government punishments for social media platforms who do not do enough to tackle online hate.

Dowden wrote: “I will shortly introduce legislation into Parliament that will force social media firms to stamp out abuse — or face the consequences.

Tottenham target Erik ten Hag has signed a new contract with Ajax.
The Dutchman had leapt to the top of the bookies’ odds to take over after Jose Mourinho was sacked.
But Eredivisie champions in waiting Ajax have just confirmed his contract renewal to 2023, a 12-month extension.

    SAD SCENES
Scottish footballer David Cox has quit football after being taunted by another player over his attempted suicide.
Albion Rovers player Cox, who has been admirably open in the past about his previous attempt to take his own life, insists he’s had enough with the sport.
He has taken to social media to allege that Stenhousemuir captain Jonathan Tiffoney aimed the slur at him at half-time during Thursday’s game at Ochilview.
In Thursday night’s fourth tier clash, Cox alleges the opposition player told him he should have succeeded in his suicide attempt.
Cox said on Facebook live: “The second half is just starting, Albion Rovers and Stenhousemuir. I have left the stadium.
“I wasn’t playing tonight. I was on the bench, one of the boys on the Stenny team… we were having a wee bit of to-and-fro on the bench and they had a wee go at my mental health. Told me I should have done it right the first time.
“So I promised myself the next time it happened I’d walk off the park. Obviously I wasn’t playing (but)… I am done with football. Completely. Some folk might not think it’s a big deal, I’m f*****g fed up listening to it.
“Don’t get paid enough for it and they’d put me on the park I’d probably have broken the boy’s legs deliberately. I tried to speak to the referees about it, they didn’t want to know because they didn’t hear it.”
    DEMI GOD
Everton are reportedly interested in signing Juventus defender Merih Demiral this summer.
The 23-year-old Turkey star is set to be available come the end of the season as the cash-strapped Italian giants look to raise some funds.
And CalcioMercato reports Carlo Ancelotti is readying a bid of up to £26million to lure the centre-back to the Premier League from Turin.
The Old Lady are thought to value their asset at a higher price but the Italian outlet claims ‘an agreement is far from impossible’.
The report states the Toffees have made enquiries about the player – who is contracted until 2024 – for several weeks.

    TAM TO SHINE
Tammy Abraham is being heavily linked with a move to Aston Villa amid reports the Blues are willing to sell him for £40million.
The 23-year-old has started just four games since Thomas Tuchel took over from Frank Lampard at the end of January.
And the German’s reluctance to play Abraham has led to widespread speculation over his future at Stamford Bridge.
According to The Mirror, Chelsea are willing to accept an offer of £40m from Aston Villa for the young striker.

Lionel Messi s edging closer to committing his future to Barcelona after the club offered him a TEN-YEAR deal, according to reports.
The mini maestro is out of contract this summer following last summer’s high-profile fallout.
Messi, 33, wanted to leave at the end of last season following the turmoil on and off the pitch but Barca demanded £625million to let him leave.
Joan Laporta has since been re-appointed as the club’s president and has been working tooth and nail to keep Messi at his boyhood club.
According to the Times, a lucrative new contract is on the table for the superstar following talks between Laporta and Messi’s father.
It gives Messi the option of staying at the Nou Camp in the short-term before having a final career swansong in the MLS.

MANCHESTER UNITED are in advanced talks over the £43.4m signing of Villarreal’s Pau Torres, according to reports from Spain. The centre-back impressed in the Yellow Submarine’s 2-1 win over Arsenal last night and is reportedly seen as an ideal partner for Harry Maguire.
Meanwhile Uruguay’s top commentator has stated that Edinson Cavani will sign a one-year contract extension with Man Utd today.
And reports in Italy claim that United are the only club interested in Cristiano Ronaldo.
Agent Jorge Mendes has sounded out PSG, Real Madrid and the Red Devils – the only three clubs who can afford the Portugal captain.

    KLOPP OF THE POPS
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has praised Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba for their starring roles against Roma last night.
Ahead of Sunday’s derby, he spoke of the likely line-up his side will face at Anfield.
Klopp told reporters: “Fernandes is playing pretty much all games and the other three he can change from time to time.
“Is it Rashford up front or Greenwood up front. Is it James on the wing or Greenwood on the wing? Is Rashford on the wing or is it Pogba?
“Obviously Pogba played again a really good game last night. Who we will face is pretty clear.
“They cannot make massive changes and probably will not make if they had no injuries last night. I think that’s clear.”
    ED IN CHECK
Outgoing Manchester United chief Ed Woodward has told a fans’ forum that the club will not reconsider its European Super League exit.
The doomed breakaway plot featured the Red Devils and five other Premier League clubs but was stamped out amid heavy fan protests.
And Woodward today said: “I can assure you that we have learned our lesson from the events of the past week and we do not seek any revival of the Super League plans.
“I would like to add my personal apology to this forum. I know that you will feel angry and let down by the lack of consultation and by the way the proposal failed to recognise the vital principle of open competition. Proper discussion would have helped us avoid the mistake we made.
“While there would have been a substantial increase in solidarity payments from the leading clubs to the rest of the pyramid across Europe, we fully accept that there were fundamental elements which were badly misjudged.”
    KEEP THE PEACE
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made a plea for peace with up to 10,000 fans set to march on Old Trafford in protest.
The mass gathering will take place outside the Red Devils ground ahead of Sunday’s match against rivals Liverpool which kicks-off at 4.30pm. Extra police and security have been called in with fears the match may not go ahead if things spill over.
But Man Utd manager Solskjaer said that while the fans should be heard, he has been backed by the Glazers and any protests should remain peaceful.
Solskjaer said: “It’s important that the fans’ views are listened to and we communicate better. My job is to focus on the football side and that we have the best possible team.
“As I’ve said before I’ve been backed, I’ve had great support from the club and the owners and I’m sure I will get the backing again to go one step further. But I’m so happy all the clubs have agreed that this shouldn’t be the way of moving forward.
“Then again, when the protests are on, it’s important they go in a good fashion and that we keep it peaceful.”

    QUALIFY QUALITY
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side can all-but ensure their qualification for next season’s Champions League THIS weekend, if a few results go their way.
Beating Liverpool is a big part of the mix and United fans should be wary: Lose to the Reds on Sunday and – if Manchester City beat Crystal Palace – City will be crowned champions.
Check out the full permutations here.
    RETURN LEG
A reminder that Manchester United will defend their 6-2 Europa League semi-final lead when travelling to Italy next week.
The second leg kicks off at 8pm on Thursday, May 6.
    OOPS
Paul Pogba has admitted he ‘can’t tackle’ after giving away a penalty in Manchester United’s resounding Europa League semi-final win over Roma on Thursday night.
The Red Devils midfielder slid in to try and block a cross from Roma defender Rick Karsdorp, but instead gave a spot kick away when the ball struck his arm.
Speaking to BT Sport, he said: “Just don’t tackle. I don’t know how to tackle – why should I tackle? That’s my problem! I try to tackle and be the English guy.
“I need to practice more. I need to practice to tackle without my arms. It’s unlucky. I’ve been unlucky a lot this season with penalties.”

    WAITING GAME
Here’s a reminder of what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said on Edinson Cavani’s future last week…
He told reporters: “We’re still in the same boat with Edinson in that he’s not decided on his future yet.
“He’s not told me he wants to leave, but I’m very aware he may be going back home to South America with the difficult year he has had.
“If that’s his decision, I’ll understand it, but he knows my view and he knows I’d love to see him play in front of the Man United fans at Old Trafford.
“It will be the year when we can get the fans back in and it’s important that he makes the decision not with anything else in mind.”

    GLAZE OF GLORY
Paul Scholes has accused Manchester United owners the Glazers of using the football club as a ‘toy’ in a furious rant.
Speaking to BT Sport, he said: “I’m not sure there ever will be a connection with these owners.
“I don’t think that’s just this club, I think it’s every club that started with billionaire owners that we brought into here for them to have a toy to make money with.
“This is a great club as well to actually have that connection with the owners – the young players this club has, the young local lads coming through the academy, there’s a great chance for that connection, but as long as these billionaire owners, from America and other countries, there’s never ever going to be a connection.
“Look at Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool – is there a connection there? I don’t think there is, I don’t think there ever will be. I think we need to stop pining for that.
“The most important thing for the fans now is what happens on the football pitch and if you look at the last four or five years at Manchester United; the resources, the money that this club has had, and it’s not won a trophy for four years. It’s absolutely ridiculous.”

    DONE AND DUSTED
TalkSPORT host and Manchester United fan Andy Goldstein reckons the Red Devils WON the Europa League last night.
He said after the 6-2 demolition of Roma: “One to 11, it was a fantastic performance from United, who now not only in the final of the Europa League, but tonight they’ve won the Europa League.
“From what I saw in the other match, Villarreal beating Arsenal, it wasn’t the best match, both teams were quite poor.
“Neither side can stop the juggernaut that is Man United. The way United played tonight, none of those teams can live with them.”

    SOCIAL SANCTIONS
UK culture secretary Oliver Dowden has written in The Sun to detail his plans for Government punishments for social media platforms who do not do enough to tackle online hate.
Much of the British sporting world will commit to a social media blackout today at 3pm following continued abuse.
Dowden wrote: “I will shortly introduce legislation into Parliament that will force social media firms to stamp out abuse — or face the consequences.

“The Online Safety Bill, as it is called, is one of the first of its kind.
“Under the legislation, if social media companies do not keep their promises to users by, for example, failing to remove racist abuse, they will face severe sanctions.”
    UNITED ACTION
Manchester United have banned three season ticket holders, two club members and another registered fan over alleged social media abuse.
The club investigated after Tottenham star Son Heung-min was subjected to sick taunts online following their game earlier this month.
A statement read: “Manchester United has instigated club sanction proceedings against six individuals alleged to have breached club rules by abusing Tottenham’s Heung-Min Son on social media following the match on 11 April.
“Regretfully, suspensions have been issued, subject to appeal, to three season ticket holders, two official members and one individual on the season ticket waiting list.”

    SOCIAL MEDIA SHAME
Manchester United players have received a sickening 3,300 incidents of social media abuse since September 2019 – the majority of them racist.
The astonishing figure has highlighted the rise in social media abuse of their stars, up 350 per cent in that time scale.
In a wide-ranging investigation set out by the club they found that 86 per cent of these posts were racist, while eight per cent were homophobic or transphobic.
It peaked in January 2021 with over 400 abusive player posts recorded.
The disgusting racist posts contained either the ‘N word’ (and variants on the spelling) or emojis used with racist intent.
United are joining a worldwide social media boycott by sports stars and organisations from 3pm today until 11.59pm on Monday in response to the sustained attacks.

    CAV’S AND CAV NOTS
Edinson Cavani’s Premier League stats this season, as Solskjaer says he’s doing everything he can to keep Uruguayan ace at the club:

    GOOD MORNING UTD FANS,
United have more than one foot in the Europa League final after a scintillating Edinson Cavani-inspired 6-2 first leg win against Roma.
The Red Devils were 2-1 down at half-time, but whatever boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said in the dressing room worked a treat.
Cavani scored twice and Bruno Fernandes added to his first-half strike to make it 4-2.
Paul Pogba got the goal his industrious performance deserved and then sub Mason Greenwood rounded off the scoring as United completed a stunning turnaround at Old Trafford.
But manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insisted that the job is not done yet after he hailed Pogba’s performance
He told BT Sport: “I don’t feel the job is done yet, but that was a good job done.
“They were good and had quality, as you saw from the goals in the two moments we gave them.
“In Rome, they’ll get chances against us, so we have to be prepared with a response.
“We know we have creative players who can create big moments and big chances.
“Paul’s positioning today was very good, he was allowed freedom and knew there was a good foundation behind him.
“That’s the difference today, we took most of our chances, so I’m very pleased.”
Meanwhile, on the transfer front, Cristiano Ronaldo’s super-agent Jorge Mendes reportedly offered the five-time Ballon d’Or winner back to United.
Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb claim that CR7 is considering his options this summer if Juventus fail to qualify for the Champions League.
And the report adds that Mendes offered Ronaldo to the three clubs capable of affording both the forward’s transfer fee and salary.
Real Madrid were said to have declined while Paris Saint-Germain were not interested but United were the only club to respond.
The Red Devils reportedly demanded that Ronaldo would have to take a 50% pay cut if there would be any chance of a deal.
And finally, SunSport’s Charlie Wyett has revealed that Borussia Dortmund have joined the race for United target Ben White.
Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal also remain interested in the Brighton defender.
The Seagulls will demand about £35million for White, having turned down three bids from Leeds last summer – with the final offer totalling £25m.
White spent a successful season on loan in the Championship with Leeds last term and has gone from strength to strength on the south coast this year.

    CAV SOME OF THAT
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed he will do everything to keep Edinson Cavani at Man Utd next season.
The Uruguayan, who scored a brace against Roma tonight, has been heavily linked with a move to Boca Juniors this summer.
But Solskjaer said: “He knows my feelings. He knows I would love to have him here.
“I promised him Old Trafford is a different place with fans. I am doing my best. Hopefully we will see him here for another year.”

    CHEQUERED FLAG
Lewis Hamilton bounces back from a below-average FP1 to take top spot in afternoon practice.
With plenty of teams running race preparations, most of the hot laps came early in the session.
A 1:19.837 kept Hamilton top with Max Verstappen bisecting the Mercedes in the top three.
    ONE MINUTE TO GO
Yuki Tsunoda threatens a commentator’s curse as he skims wide – but keeps it pointing roughly in the right direction.
    CLEAN AS A WHISTLE
Certainly one observation that can be taken at this stage (no matter what happens in the next 90 seconds) is the lack of spills in practice session this year.
Whether it’s the shorter sessions, lack of changes in the regulations from last year, or general worries over costs, drivers are keeping it on the road rather nicely. So far.
    ALPINE CHALLENGE
A very decent showing from Alpine in this session, Fernando Alonso leading Esteban Ocon in P5 and P6, respectively.
    Five minutes to go.
    GET THE CALCULATOR OUT
Max Verstappen cruising along on the Medium tyres as Red Bull gather some data for Sunday’s race.
This is the part of the weekend where teams crunch the numbers and work out where it all shakes out.
    TYRED OUT
Lewis Hamilton tells Mercedes his Softs are out of grip and drifts out of track limits for good measure.
The Mercs sit alongside Ferrari and AlphaTauri for the most laps this session.
Max Verstappen and Kimi Raikkonen tally the fewest following brake issues earlier on.
    FINAL RUNS
Just 15 minutes to go in the final session of the day, who can stop the Mercedes on the Algarve Rollercoaster?

    LONG RUNS
Some race stints underway now with both Mercedes and Ferrari cars out on track.
    LATIFI OFF
We haven’t seen many spills today and Nicholas Latifi jolts into the gravel at Turn 8.
The Canadian avoids the barriers and carries on.
    HALFWAY
Here is the top ten after 30 minutes of FP2:

    BLISTERING
Welcome to the Portuguese Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton.
A 1:19.837 sends the championship leader top on the Softs with two quickest sectors before a bit of a drop-off at the end of the lap.
That’s a four-tenth gap to Max Verstappen, who ran on the Mediums.
Perhaps that is all the ‘quicker’ tyre will give us this weekend? Something to keep an eye on.
    NEW LEADER
A little bit quiet on the timesheets but Max Verstappen, making up for lost time, takes top spot by a tenth of a second.
Valtteri Bottas, every bit a man on a mission, goes a tenth quicker again but that was on the Soft tyre.
    MAX BACK OUT
Thar brake problem for Max Verstappen is being put down to a software issue on a sensor and the Dutchman is back out on track.
    WIND IT UP
A 30km/h tailwind into the hairpin Turn 5, at the end of a long, downhill straight, is giving the drivers something extra to think about.
A reminder that rain is not expected this weekend with low-20 degree celsius sunshine the forecast for the Algarve.
    Credit: Getty
    POWER SERG
Some good news for Sergio Perez as he goes fastest but again Valtteri Bottas quickly jumps back to the top.
And we finally get a glimpse of Lewis Hamilton coming into the weekend as he goes 0.08 seconds of his team-mate to go third.
    EARLY PACE
Max Verstappen, Carlos Sainz and Valtteri Bottas all take a turn at the top of the timesheet after their early efforts.
The Red Bull is back in the pits complaining of a brake issue.
    TRAFFIC JAM
Just the 20 cars out on track right now.
And Lewis Hamilton tries to dive around Lance Stroll on the pit straight but has to pull back as they jockey for position.
Pretty much every car on the Medium tyres.
    LIGHTS OUT
Not before time, we are underway at Portimao.
One hour of FP2 coming up!
    FAMILIAR FEEL
If a delay to fix a drain at Portimao is bringing about a sense of deja vu, it may be because this happened last year.
Qualifying was delayed by half an hour in October due to a broken drain (pictured) – but we’re only set for a ten-minute delay this time.
    Credit: Getty
    DRAIN ON ME
Here is the offending drain cover…
FP2 action should begin at 3.10pm.

    SOCIAL BOYCOTT
As we prepare for the delayed session, Max Verstappen has announced his support for the social media boycott.
F1 will not partake in the shutdown but Lewis Hamilton is among the many joining its start at 3pm.
Along with my fellow F1 drivers, I support the #enoughisenough campaign this weekend. We support the call for social media platforms to act responsibly and users to act respectfully. Online abuse and hate must stop ✋ pic.twitter.com/mwYseSRLXb— Max Verstappen (@Max33Verstappen) April 30, 2021

    TEN MINUTE DELAY
    Hold your horses…
Race stewards have confirmed a pause to proceedings while drain covers are repaired.
    NOT LONG TO GO
Just 15 minutes until we can settle in for second practice in Portimao…
    LLOT OF THE POPS
Callum Ilott made his first F1 appearance in the first practice session after signing as a reserve driver with Alfa Romeo.
Safe to say the Brit, finishing P17, did a rather decent job.

Derek Chisora will bid to get back in the win column in his clash with former WBO champ Joseph Parker following defeat to Oleksandr Usyk last November.
And the former world title challenger appears to have dropped a few pounds ahead of Saturday’s showdown.

    GETTING COSY AT BREAKFAST
Joseph Parker and Derek Chisora enjoyed a bizarre breakfast with Spiderman on Thursday morning.
But something tells me their meeting this afternoon won’t be as cordial.

    DEL OF A FIGHT
Derek Chisora faces Joseph Parker on Saturday night in a huge fight night in Manchester, and we’ll be bringing you all of the updates starting from TODAY’S weigh in at 1pm right here.
The pair were originally set to do battle in 2019 but a SPIDER bite ruled out Parker.
Katie Taylor vs Natasha Jonas is the chief support on a stacked undercard which includes Chris Eubank Jr and Campbell Hatton both in action too.
Chisora and Parker have enjoyed a jovial fight week, even sharing breakfast together this week.
Though Chisora has been far from enthusiastic about Parker’s last fight, when he beat Junior Fa in his native New Zealand in February.
Chisora said: “If I had boxed for the title he won in New Zealand, I would have won it as well.
“There’s not much really happening in New Zealand.
“If that fight was on a different continent he’d have lost it because when Ruiz was bringing the heat on and pushing the fight… it went Joe’s way because it was his show.
“But really and truly I’ve got respect for Joe and I don’t have anything bad to say about Joe because he hasn’t done anything bad in the sport.
“He has been given fights and he has fought those fights.”

Villarreal 2-1 Arsenal LIVE RESULT: Pepe gets crucial away goal as Ceballos and Capoue sent off in Europa League semi

ARSENAL have picked up a crucial away goal at Villarreal in an enthralling tie which saw both sides finish with ten men.Manu Trigueros gave the hosts an early lead before Raul Albiol tapped in a second from a corner.
And things then went from bad to worse with Dani Ceballos SENT OFF after receiving a second yellow card.
But Nicolas Pepe then converted a penalty for Arsenal before Etienne Capoue was sent off for the hosts.
    THAT’S ALL FROM VILLARREAL
Villarreal beat Arsenal for the first time ever with a score of 2-1 at the Estadio de la Ceramica, but the Gunners are still very much alive in this Europa League semi-final tie.
The Yellow Submarine opened the scoring after only five minutes when Samuel Chukwueze dribbled past Dani Ceballos and Granit Xhaka down the right flank before passing to Manu Trigueros, whose powerful shot went between Thomas Partey’s legs and beat Bernd Leno.
Unai Emery’s men doubled their lead on 29 minutes when a sublime corner-kick by Dani Parejo found Gerard Moreno and a back header sent the ball to captain Raul Albiol, whose close-range effort went to the back of Leno’s net.
The Gunners thought they got a penalty at the closing stages of first half when Nicolas Pepe was fouled by Juan Foyth inside the box but VAR found that the ball bounced off the winger’s arm in the build-up.
Things went from bad to worse for the north Londoners in the second half when Ceballos was sent off after 57 minutes as he was booked with a second yellow card.
But Arsenal’s luck changed soon after when Bukayo Saka was brought down by Trigueros inside the box and Pepe got the away goal from the penalty spot on 73 minutes.
It all got even on the pitch soon after when Etienne Capoue was also sent off due to a rough challenge on Saka after 80 minutes.
The returning Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang came close to an equaliser at the death but failed to beat Geronimo Rulli one on one.
That’s all from us here at Villarreal, have a lovely night!

EMERY AND TRIGUEROS REACT ON PENALTY
Villarreal manager Unai Emery and player Manu Trigueros discussed the penalty Bukayo Saka got and led to Nicolas Pepe’s goal.
And both of them are not happy with the referee’s decision.
Emery said: “It was a penalty that was not a penalty. VAR should be able to give justice in what is such a clear situation”
Trigueros added: “Every time I see it it looks less of a penalty. It’s incredible that VAR didn’t intervene”
    GETTY IMAGES
    ARTETA REACTS
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is satisfied with the result, based on how things transpired, praised Bernd Leno for his performance between the sticks and is confident the Gunners will go through if they show their true potential at the Emirates.
Arteta said: “Yeah, of course we didn’t want to come here and lose but after the way the game developed you have to take the result. We started to be us, in the first half there were so many moments where we weren’t us.
“Yeah he [Leno] was very good when we needed him at 2-0. He saved us and at the end we had a big chance with Auba [Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang] but we weren’t able to equalise.
“I am confident if we are us we are going to have a chance to win”
    GETTY IMAGES
    SAKA REACTS
Arsenal ace Bukayo Saka was critical of the first half but pleased with the second-half performance, which he believes gives them a “chance” ahead of the return fixture at the Emirates:
Saka told BT Sport: “There’s a lot of positives from the second half but to start a Europa League semi-final like this, it’s impossible to have a chance of scoring.
“We didn’t create anything, we lost every duel, we was passive. It’s really frustrating to look back on it.
“I’m just happy that in the second half we picked ourselves up, we got a good chance and we managed to score. We’ve given ourselves a chance at the Emirates.
“In the second half, we definitely showed that we are better than them and even with 10 men we were dominating them. When we play properly we can beat anyone”
    GETTY IMAGES
    NAI-KING HISTORY
Villarreal manager Unai Emery has made history at the expense of his former club Arsenal.
Emery has led the Yellow Submarine to their first ever victory over the Gunners after four failed attempts.
Arsenal and Villarreal’s first ever encounter took place in 2006 during the Champions League’s semi-final stage, which saw the Gunners going through to the final thanks to a 1-0 victory at Highbury and a goalless draw in the return fixture at the Estadio de la Ceramica.
The two teams faced off again three years later in the Champions League quarter-finals when the north Londoners again bested the LaLiga outfit thanks to a 3-0 win at the Emirates after a 1-1 draw in Spain
    GETTY IMAGES
    ELSEWHERE…
Manchester United made a giant leap towards the Europa League final as they thrashed Roma with a score of 6-2 at Old Trafford.
Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring for United after only nine minutes but Lorenzo Pellegrini equalised just six minutes later.
Former Manchester City star Edin Dzeko gave the visitors the lead on 33 minutes.
But the Red Devils came back stronger in the second half and got two goals thanks to Edinson Cavani within 16 minutes.
Fernandes also completed a brace from the penalty spot before Paul Pogba and Mason Greenwood also got on the scoresheet and appeared to have put the tie to bed.
Therefore, Villarreal and Arsenal are looking at a final that will most likely include United
    GETTY IMAGES
    WHAT’S NEXT?
Arsenal and Villarreal are going to lock horns again next week on Thursday at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners are going to need at least one goal and if they win 1-0 then they will go through on away goals rules.
However, if the Yellow Submarine hit the back of the net then the north Londoners will need at least two goals to take the game to extra time.
Based on what we saw tonight, this could really go either way and Arsenal have work to do…
    GETTY IMAGES
    STATS
Arsenal dominated 52.9 per cent of possession throughout the encounter.
The Gunners registered a total of nine shots but only two of them were on target, both of which took place in the second half.
Villarreal, on the other hand, also got nine shots, six of which were on target.
The north Londoners absolutely dominated in the air as they won a whopping 81.3 per cent of aerial duels

    OLE REFLECTS
The United boss told BT Sport: “I don’t feel the job is done yet, but that was a good job done.
“They were good and had quality, as you saw from the goals in the two moments we gave them.
“In Rome, they’ll get chances against us, so we have to be prepared with a response.
” We know we have creative players who can create big moments and big chances.
“Paul’s positioning today was very good, he was allowed freedom and knew there was a good foundation behind him.

“I dressed in my shirt, lest I continue six years later and I continue at Barca.
“Before saying hello, he gives me a push and he throws me to the ground… ‘you are not strong to be a defender’.
“I thought that I should have been stronger.”

    SOLSK SCULPTURE
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be honoured with a statue in his hometown.
And the bust is being funded by locals who have already raised £53,000.
As reported by Tidens Krav, the Solskjaer statue is set to be erected in Kristiansund on Norway’s west coast.
It will be created by artist Tore Bjorn Skjolsvik with Ole Tonder agreeing to pay a whopping £76,000.
The city’s population – which totals around 24,000 – have agreed to cover the costs and gift the sculpture to the buyer.

    SILVA-PLATED
Real Madrid could be about to move ahead of Manchester United in the race for Andre Silva.
Reports in Germany indicate the LaLiga giants are willing to allow Luka Jovic to sign for Eintracht Frankfurt permanently in a player-plus-cash deal.
Silva, 25, has smashed 26 goals for the Bundesliga club this season after signing from AC Milan.
United are said to be among them along with Borussia Dortmund, who could become particularly keen if Erling Haaland leaves.
But Madrid have entered the race with a unique offer, according to Bild, and are the preferred destination for Silva.

    SERIE-OUS MONEY
Former Manchester United star Romelu Lukaku is Inter Milan’s top-earning star.
While Alexis Sanchez earning more than DOUBLE Ashley Young’s pay.

    CROWN JULES
Real Madrid are reportedly looking to fend off competition from Manchester United and Chelsea in the race to sign Sevilla star Jules Kounde.
The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with a move in the summer after two impressive years in Spain since joining from Bordeaux in 2019.
SunSport exclusively revealed last month that United were weighing up a move for Kounde to pair him alongside Harry Maguire.
But according to AS, Madrid are looking to keep Kounde in Spain as Zinedine Zidane eyes up a summer swoop.
    THE RON FOR ME
Cristiano Ronaldo’s super-agent Jorge Mendes reportedly offered the five-time Ballon d’Or winner back to Manchester United.

    NO SMALL FAVOURS
Luke Shaw warned old pals Chris Smalling and Henrikh Mkhitaryan that they won’t get any special treatment when Roma face Manchester United in the Europa League semi-final tonight.
Shaw said: “Mkhi and Chris, I was here with both of them, and I really missed them when they left, they were really good guys and brilliant players.
“It’ll be really nice to see them, they’ve both been doing really well. They’ve both been a bit unfortunate with injuries but they’re back fit now and they will obviously make their team much stronger than before.
“I’m looking forward to seeing them tonight but the game is the most important, so we won’t be friends during it but maybe after we’ll have a chat.”
But asked if he will be taking it easy against his old mates, Shaw was emphatic.
He added: “No, there’s none of that. We’re all professionals and it’s our job, we’re doing it for ourselves but also the fans so it’s very important to keep being professional.
“It’ll be very nice to see them but we’ll leaving the talking until after. We need to win the game and doing everything to win it.”
    LUKE-ING GOOD
Luke Shaw said his outstanding Manchester United form is down to the return of his confidence ahead of tonight’s Europa League semi-final against Roma.
Shaw said: “My form has been much improved, I’m enjoying my football. I’ve got my confidence back and I’m just loving playing football again.
“Personally it’s nice for me to have a good season but that doesn’t really matter if we don’t have a successful season and that is to win a trophy.
“If we don’t win a trophy and I’ve still had a good season I’ll be disappointed because the most important thing – and it’s why we play for a big club like Manchester United – is to win trophies.
“Yeah I’ve been good but I want to help the team push for this trophy and cap off a great season and one I’ll be happy with if we do win the trophy.”

    UP FOR G-RABS
Juventus are considering flogging midfielder Adrien Rabiot after an underwhelming campaign, according to reports.
Both Manchester United and Chelsea have been linked with the midfield enforcer.
And they could be handed a major transfer boost judging by reports coming out of Italy.
TuttoSport write how the Old Lady have finally lost patience with Rabiot and are looking to upgrade him in the summer.
Rabiot, 26, has featured heavily under Andrea Pirlo with 21 Serie A starts.
But the reports adds how, except for a handful of matches, Rabiot’s performances, on the whole, have been average.
Pirlo is eager to delve into the market this summer following a disappointing campaign with their nine-year Serie A reign coming to an end.

    KANE DO ATTITUDE
Manchester United are reportedly monitoring Harry Kane’s situation very closely.
The Tottenham striker failed to pick up his first major trophy with Spurs tasting defeat in the Carabao Cup final and could look to leave the club this summer with Champions League football seemingly off the cards.
Norwegian outlet Dagbladet reports Kane is thinking about the idea of moving and the Red Devils are keeping tabs as things unfold.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will ask for a minimum of £125million for the England captain.
    LINCREDIBLE GESTURE
Jesse Lingard showed off his caring side by sending out mental health packages to his pals – before revealing his new ‘Be Yourself’ tattoo.
The West Ham star – currently on-loan from Manchester United – has been open and honest with his own battles with mental health in recent months.
Earlier this month, Lingard, 28, opened up about his struggle to cope with his mum’s depression and how it affected him both on and off the pitch.
But the in-form midfielder is keen to make sure his family and friends are looked after by sending care packages to them.
Derby’s former Liverpool winger Jordon Ibe shared a picture of Lingard’s thoughtful gift on Instagram.
Earlier this year, Ibe revealed he was in a ‘dark place’ and was suffering from depression.

    SEVENTH HEAVEN
Manchester United know how to thump Roma after giving the Italians a 7-1 spanking in 2007 at Old Trafford.
The two sides go head to head tonight in the Europa League semi-final.

    KANE HE COME?
Harry Kane could be heading to Manchester this summer, according to former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara.
He told talkSPORT: “After that statement he’s obviously going to leave. I can see him going to one of the Manchester clubs.
“I can see him at City and United. As a Spurs fan, selfishly, I’d love him to stay, I’d love him to be at the football club because he’s just so professional. It’s so great what he’s done.
“But you cannot begrudge him leaving because watching that final, we were miles off it. We’re miles away from winning a trophy.
“I just can’t see us competing at the level he wants to be. You have to let him go.
“This is his big move. It’s the one move where he can go for a lot of money. I’d love to see him go and play for Real Madrid.
“He’d do great. But I just think he will be at a Manchester club.”

    WHERE’S HE EDIN
Edinson Cavani posted a cryptic message online as speculation around his future continues to swirl.
The Uruguayan wrote in Spanish: “The only thing I know is that I will give my best.”

    MOST WANTED
Manchester United will make Erling Haaland their No1 transfer target, according to reports.
But the Red Devils may be forced to wait one more year before landing him for a bargain £65million fee.
The Norwegian striker is Europe’s hottest property with a host of European giants prepared to make their moves.
Manchester United are no different with boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer eager to land a prolific goalscorer to lead the line.
According to Eurosport, club chiefs including director John Murtough have determined they will go all out to land Haaland.
Dortmund are likely to put their star asset up for sale this summer for £130million if they miss out on Champions League football.

    KNOWLEDGE PAUL
Paul Pogba is drawing inspiration from some unlikely sources ahead of Manchester United’s Europa League semi-final against Roma.
The French midfielder wants to take lessons from the mental strength shown by American sporting legends including Michael Jordan, Tom Brady and boxers Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson.
Pogba told Uefa: “Tom Brady was just an example to really show people that, despite his age, he was still up to the challenge. He changed franchises but still won, which means that it’s possible to do so; wanted to show people that you could still succeed after changing clubs. He never gives up.
“I have another example of a personal inspiration for me: Michael Jordan. I think that most of us already know his story, and his leadership and work ethic really have been an inspiration to me.
“You want to take the last shots, like [Michael Jordan] did, and you always want to win. That requires extraordinary mental strength, and it’s a great source of inspiration for me.
“Muhammad Ali is also an inspiration for me. In his day, he was one of the youngest heavyweights – just like Mike Tyson after him – to be crowned world champion. All of those people are inspirations because of their daily work ethic.
“They push themselves. They might fall or lose, but they keep going, they come back stronger and they never give up. That’s important to me.”
