Wembley chiefs confirmed the FA has begun its formal investigation into the proposed breakaway, demanding answers from all of the Big Six.
And the Prem agreed, vowing to ensure its rulebook would rule out any possibility of the plotters coming back for a second attempt. Club chiefs will also have to sign an ‘Owners’ charter’ in future.
A statement read: “The Premier League, supported by The FA, is taking the following actions to protect our game, our clubs and their fans from further disruption and uncertainty:
“Additional rules and regulation to ensure the principles of the Premier League and open competition are protected A new Owners’ Charter that all club owners will be required to sign up to, committing them to the core principles of the Premier League.
“Breaches of these rules and the Charter will be subject to significant sanctions. We are enlisting the support of Government to bring in appropriate legislation to protect football’s open pyramid, principles of sporting merit and the integrity of the football community.

    STATE OF THE ART
Santi Cazorla has backed Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta as the “right man” to lead his former club forward despite this year’s “inconsistent” campaign.
Cazorla spent six years at the Emirates following his arrival from Malaga in 2012 and became close friends with Arteta while they both played under legendary manager Arsene Wenger.
Cazorla told uefa.com: “I think he’s the right man to take the club forward. It’s difficult to follow a period like Wenger’s – the club has to adapt to another kind of football, another philosophy, another vision of football.
“He’s got a clear idea of how he wants his team to play, they’re in the semi-finals and they did well in the FA Cup [last season].
“They have been pretty inconsistent but you’ve got to give him time and I think they’re convinced that Mikel can get a lot out of the squad and achieve big things.
“I’m great friends with him and whatever good happens to him and the club I’d be happy for them because I’m a ‘Gunner’.”

    REDS RESPOND
Manchester United have released a statement in response to Sunday’s fan protests at Old Trafford and refuted the idea supporters were allowed into the stadium by club staff.
It read: “Following events yesterday, while many fans wanted to exercise their right to protest and express their opinion peacefully, some were intent on disrupting the team’s preparation and the game itself, as evidenced by activity at the Lowry Hotel and at the stadium.
“Reports in mainstream and social media that protesters were able to access the stadium and pitch via a gate opened by club staff are completely incorrect.
“After breaking through barriers and security on the forecourt, some protestors climbed the gates at the end of the Munich tunnel, then forced access to a side door in the stand, before opening an external door that let others through to the concourse area and the pitch.
“A second breach occurred when a protestor smashed the door of a disability access lift, enabling a group to enter the stand. The majority of our fans have and will condemn criminal damage, along with any violence towards club staff, police or other fans, and these now become a police matter.
“The club has no desire to see peaceful protestors punished, but will work with the police to identify those involved in criminal activity, and will also issue its own sanctions to any season ticket holder or member identified, per the published sanctions policy.”

    FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE
Russian goalkeeper Elvira Todua has admitted it is ‘normal’ for women to have sex before matches.
Some men’s teams are banned from doing so by their coaches, including famously Fabio Capello’s England during the 2010 World Cup. But that’s not the case for female footballers.
Todua, 35, told YouTube channel Comment Show: “It is normal that women can [have sex before a game] while, for men, I know that many coaches have prohibited it.”
The stopper also revealed that she and her team-mates are protected by their contracts, if they get pregnant. She added: “Our contracts stipulate that the club is obliged to pay in case of maternity. We have that clause in our contracts at CSKA, but it is not like that everywhere. I know that, in other clubs, contracts are rescinded in the case of pregnancy.”
Todua is currently in her second stint at CSKA Moscow in her native Russia, re-joining in 2017 after a brief spell the year before. She is also a stalwart for the national team.
In fact, she earned her 100th cap for Russia last month, featuring against Portugal in their Uefa Women’s Euro 2022 qualifier.

    BUZZ KYL
Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe limped into Le Bourget Airport this morning as his team headed to England.
Despite appearing injured, the French sensation DID join his team-mates on their flight to Manchester.
Mauricio Pochettino‘s men travel to the North West requiring a huge performance, after losing their Champions League semi-final first leg 2-1 to Manchester City last week.
And they face a race against time to have their talisman fit to help them. Mbappe, 22, felt pain in his right calf during last week’s first-leg. And while it initially wasn’t thought to be too bad, the forward missed out on PSG’s 2-1 victory over RC Lens at the weekend.
He has reportedly not fully trained since, but was included in PSG’s travelling party. Pochettino, 49, gave an upbeat update yesterday, saying: “I am optimistic, I still am.
“We think he will be there. We will make a decision before the match but I am optimistic.”

Up to 9,500 fans will be allowed into the Europa League final, Uefa have confirmed.
Local authorities in Gdansk, Poland have announced they plan to allow up to 25 per cent of the stadium’s capacity to be filled for the May 26 showpiece. Manchester United look set to be there after a 6-2 first leg win over Roma while Arsenal have to overcome a 2-1 loss to Villareal to make it.
Uefa said: “Ticket sales have now started exclusively on UEFA.com and will run until 14.00 CEST on Friday 7 May 2021. Supporters from abroad will have to comply with border entry restrictions and requirements that will be in force at the time of the final as no exemptions will be granted to ticket holders.
“Access to the stadium will be granted in line with the applicable local legislation, which is to be confirmed by the local authorities during this week and may include the need for proof of a vaccine or a negative COVID-19 test result.
“UEFA will reimburse the full price of the ticket to successful buyers, should a reduction to the stadium capacity be announced by the local authorities at a later stage.
“For the sales process on UEFA.com, tickets will not be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Instead, a ballot will be conducted to allocate the tickets once the application period has ended.”

    IN THE RED – LATEST
The FA has confirmed it has opened an official investigation into the ‘violent and criminal’ invasion of Old Trafford. And the Premier league weighed in by slamming the ‘minority’ of fans whose conduct can ‘have no justification’.
Manchester United’s crunch clash with Liverpool on Sunday was postponed after more than 200 United fans stormed into the stadium and congregated on the pitch. Camera equipment, balls and other items were stolen and wrecked, with some invaders climbing onto the goals and nets.
And in the FA’s first public statement on the incident, Wembley chiefs attempted to demonstrate how the Old Trafford scenes could destroy much of the positive impact of fan power deployed to see off the European Super League.
United’s part in the Super League plot appeared to be the straw that broke the camel’s back after more than 15 years of protests against the Glazer family and their ownership of the club.
An FA spokesperson said: “The fans have played a vital and impactful role in helping to stop the European Super League from happening, and we understand their frustrations.
“However, we cannot condone the violent and criminal behaviour that took place before the scheduled Manchester United vs Liverpool match, which the FA is now investigating.”

    APPY DAYS
Cheltenham defender Chris Hussey is looking for an Appy end to the season.
The 32-year-old scored the equaliser last week that earned Cheltenham automatic promotion to League One.
And now the goal-scoring defender is gearing up to launch his new app which helps independent businesses, shoppers and grass-roots football teams.
Hussey said: “During the lockdowns, I was thinking about how I could help local communities because loads of businesses were closing down.
“You could see it on the local high street and on the news, plus there were the challenges that I knew about.
“Grass-roots football was struggling and that’s important to me as it is where I started my football journey.
“I wanted to look at who I could help and how I could help them as I was aware of how it was affecting people’s mental health.
“I have learned a lot about it through my own mental health problems, so I wanted to find a way of combining lots of things that mean a lot to me.”

    NEV-ER IN DOUBT
Ex-Manchester United defender Gary Neville returned a protester’s fist-bump inside Old Trafford yesterday.
It came as the Red Devils icon called for the Glazer family to do the ‘honourable’ thing and sell up.

    VAR BOOST FOR BLUES
Chelsea have received a major boost after Raphael Varane was ruled out of the Real Madrid squad for their Champions League clash.
The Blues secured a 1-1 draw in the Spanish capital last week in the first-leg of the semi-final showdown.
However, Los Blancos are now facing a defensive crisis going into the return game after their French World Cup winning centre-half suffered a groin injury.
The 28-year-old was replaced at half-time during Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Osasuna on Saturday.
Zinedine Zidane had been praying that the star, who has been linked with a transfer to Chelsea, would manage to shake off the problem for their must-win showdown at Stamford Bridge.
However, now he will be forced to sit and watch from the sidelines after the club confirmed it was bad news.
    CHAMP AND CHUMPS
Commentator Jon Champion was bizarrely cut off while passionately criticising the Glazers’ ownership of Manchester United on US telly yesterday.
Thousands of Man United fans protested at Old Trafford, with some even getting inside the Theatre of Dreams – leading to the match being called off.
Here’s the moment Champion was silenced…

    WHAT A COU
There is a Brazilian legion at Manchester City, and we’re not talking about Ederson, Fernandinho and Gabriel Jesus.
Fluminense ace Kayky is the latest talent from South America to sign on the dotted line for Pep Guardiola’s side.
And he could be joined by exciting Palmeiras wonderkid Gabriel Veron, who has been linked with both Manchester clubs.
But, somewhat under the radar, was the signing of Yan Couto – easily done when you understand his nickname is ‘The Flash’ in 2020.

    FANDEMONIUM
Inter Milan and Ajax fans brushed off Covid warnings to cram into the city streets and celebrate their teams’ title triumphs.
Despite club pleas, social distancing was largely ignored as the joyous scenes unfolded.
Antonio Conte secured their first Serie A crown since Jose Mourinho in 2009-10 and first piece of silverware for a decade when Atalanta drew 1-1 with Sassuolo.
Ajax, meanwhile, wrapped up Eredivisie crown No.35 in emphatic fashion by dispatching FC Emmen 4-0.

    GRAC TO SQUARE ONE
Valencia have sacked former Watford boss Javi Gracia.
Los Che narrowly lost 3-2 to Barcelona last night, in what would turn out to be Gracia’s final game in charge.
The 2004 LaLiga winners have fallen on hard times of late, having to sell most of their best players last summer – including Ferran Torres and Rodrigo, as well as captain Dani Parejo.
Gracia was appointed in July to steady the ship, after both Albert Celades and Marcelino were sacked during last season.
The 51-year-old steered his new side to an unremarkable 11 wins from 38 matches in charge – but did manage to keep them away from the relegation zone.
Los Che currently sit 14th in the LaLiga table, six points above the drop zone with four games left.
    TUCH AND GO
Thomas Tuchel is not sure whether Mason Mount will be fit enough to play in Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final second leg against Real Madrid.
Mount, who put together another impressive display for the Blues, was hauled off in the closing stages of Saturday’s 2-0 win over Fulham at Stamford Bridge after picking up an apparent back injury.
The German manager said: “I hope really that Mason is not a big thing and hopefully he can fully recover for Real Madrid.
“It was my decision, there was not any doctor or physio who told me to take him off.
“But I saw him landing hard and it was the moment anyway when we wanted to take him off anyway.”

    NOT DONN
AC Milan have paused contract talks with Gianluigi Donnarumma after a group of ultras confronted the star goalkeeper at the club’s training ground.
Donnarumma’s deal with Milan runs out in June and reports suggest that Premier League giants Manchester United as well as Chelsea have been keeping tabs on the 22-year-old.
Tensions rose on Saturday when a group of hard-line supporters went to the club’s Milanello complex to address the situation directly with the Italy star, according to ANSA.
The fans reportedly ordered Donnarumma not to play against Juventus on Sunday in Turin unless he puts pen to paper on a new contract with the Rossoneri.
After the incident, Milan legend and technical director Paolo Maldini said the club has paused contract renewal talks with the young shot-stopper until the end of the season.
Maldini said: “From this moment every single renewal negotiation is frozen until the end of the season, to allow the team to focus solely on the league.
“In the meantime, we will continue to protect our players as we have always done.”
    FOREVER YOUNG
Ex-Manchester United skipper Ashley Young is reportedly ‘in talks’ with old club Watford over a shock return to the Premier League from Inter Milan.
The 35-year-old is toasting Inter’s Serie A title success after second-place Atalanta’s draw at Sassuolo crowned Antonio Conte’s men champions with four games to spare.
The winger turned full-back joined Watford aged ten and made his senior debut as an 18-year-old in 2003.
He made 107 appearances before leaving for Aston Villa for 2007 but could be heading back to Vicarage Road this summer.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reports the Hornets have opened talks with Young to bring him back to Hertfordshire as a free agent if he is not offered a new deal at Inter.
    HAAL OVER
Borussia Dortmund have claimed Erling Haaland has agreed to stay with them this summer.
The 20-year-old striker is one of the most-coveted players on the planet thanks to his incredible goalscoring exploits in Germany.
Manchester United, Chelsea, Man City plus Real Madrid and Barcelona were all linked with a £150m-rated transfer swoop.
Sporting director Sebastian Kehl said: “I understand that Erling Haaland will play for Borussia Dortmund in the new season.
“Erling totally agrees. I see him every day and I can say that he completely identifies with the club.”

    RON A ROLL
Cristiano Ronaldo’s brace against Udinese kept Juventus’ Champions League hopes alive on a night the Old Lady was forced to hand over her crown.
Juve saw their nine-year reign as Serie A champions end on Sunday when Atalanta drew 1-1 at Sassuolo, a result that effectively led to Inter Milan winning their first Scudetto in 11 years.
But that doesn’t mean Andrea Pirlo’s men don’t have something to fight for as they still need to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
And their hopes are still very much alive thanks to Ronaldo’s performance at the Dacia Arena.
The star forward led Juventus to a 2-1 victory over Udinese and proved what a difference maker he still is despite his advanced age of 36.
    NEY CHANCE
PSG sporting director Leonardo appears less than confident of agreeing a new contract with Neymar.
The Brazilian will have just one year remaining on his current deal come the end of the season.
Neymar, 29, appears happy at the club, having said as much prior to PSG’s 2-1 Champions League semi-final first-leg defeat to Manchester City last week.
But amid reports of Barcelona rekindling their long-term interest in bringing him back, Neymar’s desire to return to Catalonia has reportedly returned.
Quizzed about PSG’s No10’s future over the weekend, Leonardo merely said: “You have to see everything calmly.”

    VALENCIA 2 BARCELONA 3
Lionel Messi missed a penalty but bagged a double as Barcelona beat Valencia 3-2 to keep alive the most exciting LaLiga title race in years.
Former Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista put the hosts ahead early in the second half.
But Messi scored either side of an Antoine Griezmann goal to turn the game on its head.
Carlos Soler’s superb late strike set up a tense finale, but Valencia could not find an equaliser and Barcelona kept the pressure on league leaders Atletico Madrid ahead of the showdown between the two teams at the Nou Camp next weekend.

    DRONE WARS
A footballer destroyed a drone carrying the rival team’s flag after it flew on to the pitch two minutes into a derby game.
Midfielder Pablo Perez stamped on its camera before hurling the match ball against it after another player caught hold of it and laid it on the ground by the side of the pitch.
    Here’s the astonishing footage…

    MONACO 2 LYON 3
Memphis Depay scored one as Lyon won a 3-2 thriller at Monaco in a game that saw FIVE players sent off.
Tempers boiled over after the final whistle as players and coaching staff from each side pushed and goaded each other in the centre circle.
That resulted in the referee dishing out four red cards post-match – two apiece for each club.
The defeat is a huge blow to third-place Monaco’s title aspirations as they now sit four points behind Paris Saint-Germain in second.
Lille are top the table, but now Lyon are only one point behind Monaco in the race for Champions League qualification.
    ‘THE TOTTENHAM WAY’
Gareth Bale has insisted that he plays well when he’s ‘happy’, after scoring a hat-trick in Tottenham’s 4-0 demolition of Sheffield United on Sunday evening.
Bale told Sky Sports: “Winning always makes everyone happy and gives a winning mentality to the dressing room. It’s not going to happen overnight but I feel like we’re taking a step in the right direction.
“Obviously you have to take your chances when they come, and thankfully I had a few tonight. I’m feeling good.
“As I’ve said before I just needed to play games and get a run of games and I’m doing that now, so I’m happy and when I’m happy I normally play well.
“It was a great performance by the team. From the first whistle I felt we were on the front foot and got control of it and played some good football.
“I feel like we are taking a step in the right direction and playing more like the Tottenham way.”

FULL FA STATEMENT ON MAN UTD FAN PROTESTS
Since we became aware of the European Super League our priority and focus has been on preventing it from happening, both now and in the future.
Throughout this period, we have been in ongoing discussions with the Government, the Premier League and UEFA. In particular, we have been discussing legislation with Government that would allow us to prevent any similar threat in the future so that we can protect the English football pyramid.
Last week, we started an official inquiry into the formation of the European Super League and the involvement of the six English clubs.
We wrote to all of the clubs to formally request all relevant information and evidence regarding their participation. Once we have the required information, we will consider what appropriate steps to take.
Clearly what happened was unacceptable and could have caused great harm to clubs at every level of English football. The fans have played a vital and impactful role in helping to stop the European Super League from happening, and we understand their frustrations.
However, we cannot condone the violent and criminal behaviour that took place before the scheduled Manchester United vs Liverpool match, which The FA is now investigating.

LIVERPOOL MATCH SET FOR MAY 16?
The most likely course of action will be that Liverpool’s trip to West Brom, scheduled for May 16, will now be brought forward by four days to May 12, when United are due to be playing Leicester.
That will allow the rescheduled clash of the north-west giants to be played at Old Trafford on Sunday, May 16.
Stadiums are allowed to welcome back up to 10,000 fans from May 17.

    FANS PRESENT 4-POINT PLAN
The Manchester United Supporters Trust have also published a four-point plan for moving the club forward.
    Here are their demands:
    1. Willingly and openly engage and promote the government initiated fan-led review of football and use this as an opportunity to rebalance the current ownership structure in the favour of supporters.
    2. Immediately appoint independent directors to the board whose sole purpose is to protect the interest of the club as a football club, not its shareholders.
    3. Work with the Manchester United Supporters Trust and supporters more broadly to put in place a share scheme that is accessible to all and that has shares with the same voting rights as those held by the Glazer family. Should the appetite be there amongst fans then you should welcome, and offer no opposition to, the Glazer Family shareholding being reduced to a minority or indeed being bought out altogether.
    4. Commit to full consultation with season ticket holders on any significant changes to the future of our club, including the competitions we play in.
The fans have asked for a response to the plan – “in public and in writing” – by Friday.

FANS PUBLISH OPEN LATER TO JOEL GLAZER
The Manchester United Supports Trust have published an open letter to United co-owner Joel Glazer.
In the letter, the trust say: “No-one wants what happened at Old Trafford yesterday to be a regular event.
“We are football fans and we want to support our team. We don’t want to spend our days off work protesting outside our football ground.
“But what happened was the culmination of sixteen years in which your family’s ownership of the club has driven us into debt and decline, and we have felt ever more sidelined and ignored.
“After sixteen years not one member of the Glazer family has ever had so much as a conversation with us, the club’s Supporters Trust. Yesterday, that frustration reached boiling point.
“For the vast majority of the thousands of attendees at the protest they made their voice heard peacefully and respectfully.
“We support the right of fans to protest lawfully and, although we did not personally witness any such acts, of course we do not condone any acts of violence.”

WHEN WILL THE MATCH BE PLAYED?
With United playing in a Europa League semi-final on Thursday, there is little time remaining in the season for the postponed Liverpool game to be played.
    Here is the current schedule…

The former goalkeeper said: “If you look at potential buyers, are they going to make it much better? Is it going to be different?
“I think everyone feels that the Glazer family is a little bit too detached from the club. They are there now and again, but they are not there every week.
“You never see Joel Glazer come out in front of the cameras and talk about the club, and I think that frustrates the fans a lot.
“We have this ownership, but from the outside, it looks like the owners don’t care, that it is just about money. I don’t think that’s completely the case.
“I think they are very proud of their ownership of Manchester United. I just think there is a need now for a restructuring of how it’s being operated.”
    TOP COP DEFENDS COLLEAGUES
The former chief constable of Greater Manchester Police has defended the policing at Old Trafford yesterday.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Sir Peter Fahy said: “I am surprised the fans got into the ground.
“The security of the ground is a matter for the club, their stewards. Clearly they were met with a big crowd.
“We have seen from the scenes that quite a number of the people involved had been drinking.
“The club only pays for policing in the ground. All these additional costs – more officers, officers brought in from other forces – will fall to taxpayers.
“Obviously the police themselves could have used more force but the outcome probably would have been more officers injured, fans injured.
“Thankfully there weren’t a higher degree of assaults, injuries and disorder.”
G NEV WANTS FOOTBALL TO SUPPORT PROTEST
Gary Neville believes all football fans should support the United protesters.
Speaking yesterday, the former United defender said: “Look, I’ve never thought they were brilliant owners but I have seen in football that there are worse owners than the Glazer family.
“However, I think all football fans should unite today behind what Manchester United fans have done because honestly, what they [the owners] did two weeks ago was really dangerous for English football, we must not forget that.
“They tried to create a famine two weeks ago in English football, in Dutch football, in German football, in French football, all over Europe.
“Those 15 clubs would have walked away from their leagues with their money and basically destroyed the ethos of the pyramid of relegation and promotion in English football, so that’s number one.”
    IN THE RED
Manchester United could be slapped with a points deduction or a heavy fine after fans’ protests forced the Liverpool game to be postponed.
The Red Devils were due to host their arch-rivals at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
But a faction of anti-Glazer protesters managed to break into the stadium and got on to the pitch before kick-off, while others barricaded the players in The Lowry Hotel.
And now the FA are investigating the chaotic scenes to determine what punishment they will hand out.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side currently sit second in the Premier League table on 67 points.
Leicester are third on 63 with Chelsea in the fourth Champions League spot a further two back.
The chasing pack of Tottenham (56), West Ham (55), Liverpool (54) and Everton (52) still hold hopes of creeping into the top four.
    SCHMEICHEL HAS HIS SAY
Peter Schmeichel wants the Glazers to remain in charge of Manchester United.
The former goalkeeper believes the owners should look to work with the fans rather than sell up.
Speaking on Good Morning Britain, he said: “I’m really struggling to see how you can organise the fans to collect $4billion and take over the club.
“That would, of course, be the ideal solution – but the fact is you need someone to take it over from the Glazer family.
“I would much rather try and work with the current owners and see if it’s possible to get them to understand what the football club is all about.
“The two biggest clubs – Liverpool and Manchester United – were going to play yesterday. They were instigators in the European Super League and we’ve seen their owners [Liverpool] not understanding what Liverpool is.
“No disrespect to the people of Liverpool, but they were trying to hike the ticket prices to £70. If you spend a little bit of time in Liverpool, you will realise that’s not possible – it’s not reality.
“At the end of the day, we play football for the fans. Without any fans, there won’t be any football.”
‘Without any fans, there won’t be any football.’Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel says he cannot see how a fan takeover of a football club could happen. BRISTOL CITY 0-1 UNITED
United Women’s picked up a 1-0 win against Bristol City yesterday, although it is extremely unlikely they’ll qualify for the Champions League.
The Red Devils are three points behind third-placed Arsenal with an inferior goal difference and will need a miracle to overturn the 26-GOAL gap.
Yana Daniels’ late own goal was the difference at Twerton Park and United are all but certain to finish fourth in this year’s WSL.
    ED FOR ED
Edwin van der Sar revealed he ‘could only work for Ajax or Manchester United’ after being linked with replacing Ed Woodward.
The former Red Devils goalkeeper, 50, is currently the chief executive at the Dutch giants, where he spent the first nine years of his senior career.
He told ESPN Netherlands: “The pressure is different and I won’t work at a club where I don’t have a feeling.
“I could only do this for Ajax or United. I would not work for any other clubs.
“I am really happy with how we have [developed] Ajax in the last couple of years.”

    PAUL CHANGE
Roy Keane would swap Paul Pogba for Jack Grealish at Manchester United ‘tomorrow’ if he could.
The Irishman told Sky Sports: “I’d swap Grealish for Pogba tomorrow, absolutely. Of course (they can all play together). Why not?
“We look at the stats for Manchester United over the last few years, whether it’s getting to semi-finals or ten league games where they’ve drawn, seven or eight of them have been 0-0.
“They’ve not had the quality in the crunch times. You can talk about Pogba, but they’ve not done it when they’ve had to do it.
“If Grealish comes in, get rid of one or two of them, get rid of Pogba, move him on.
“They’re talking about a contract, I think they’re worried because he’s into the last year, if they’re going to cash in on him, then do it this summer.
“You can’t have enough quality players at a club like Manchester United.”

    MORNING, MAN UTD FANS
The Red Devils’ game with Liverpool was called off yesterday, after a section of protesting fans stormed Old Trafford.
Thousands of disillusioned supporters gathered outside the Theatre of Dreams for a predominantly peaceful protest against the ownership of the Glazer family.
A section of protesters managed to breach security and enter the ground, with an idiotic few damaging camera equipment and throwing flares.
After initially delaying kick-off, it was determined that safety couldn’t be guaranteed, despite fans having been dispersed – leading to the match’s postponement.
Sky Sports pundits Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Micah Richards and Roy Keane were wholeheartedly in favour of the United supporters’ stand, barring the odd idiot.
Neville, 46, said: “This is a consequence of the Manchester United owners’ actions two weeks ago. There is a general distrust and dislike of the owners, but they weren’t protesting two or three weeks ago.
“The Glazer family are struggling to meet the financial requirements at this club and the fans are saying that their time is up.
“My view is quite simply that they’re going to make a fortune if they sell the club and if they were to put it up for sale now I think the time would be right, and it would be the honourable thing to do.”
    FITS TO SIZE
The Premier League fixture list has been thrown into chaos after Manchester United’s home clash with Liverpool was postponed due to furious fan protests.
No new date for the game has yet been confirmed, with both clubs in urgent discussions to thrash out a plan.
The end-of-season run-in is tight, especially for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer given his side are set to play the second leg of their Europa League semi-final against Roma in the Italian capital on Thursday.
United would normally fly out to Italy early on Wednesday.
They could, in theory, play against Liverpool today.
But the potential risk of a further fans protest was being assessed last night, especially given the heavy police involvement yesterday.
Liverpool might have to shift their game against West Brom on Sunday May 16 to the Monday and visit United on Friday 14 — the day before the FA Cup Final.
Both teams must play their last games of the season on May 23 at 4pm, with that kick-off time set in stone alongside the rest of the top-flight fixtures that day.
United and Liverpool are also in midweek action on May 19 — plus there is already a full fixture list next weekend.

    ICYMI – PREMIER LEAGUE STATEMENT
The Premier League have released a statement on this afternoon’s postponed clash between Manchester United and Liverpool.
It reads: “Following the security breach at Old Trafford, the Manchester United vs. Liverpool game has been postponed.
“This is a collective decision from the police, both clubs, the Premier League and local authorities.
“The security and safety of everyone at Old Trafford remains of paramount importance. We understand and respect the strength of feeling but condemn all acts of violence, criminal damage and trespass, especially given the associated COVID-19 breaches.
“Fans have many channels by which to make their views known, but the actions of a minority seen today have no justification.
“We sympathise with the police and stewards who had to deal with a dangerous situation that should have no place in football.
“The rearrangement of the fixture will be communicated in due course.”
Today’s game was postponed after fan protests at Old Trafford
    ICYMI –
    MANCHESTER UNITED STATEMENT
Man United have released the following statement, in the wake of their match with Liverpool being called off this afternoon.
It reads: “Following discussion between the Police, The Premier League, Trafford Council and the clubs, our match against Liverpool has been postponed due to safety and security considerations around the protest today.
“Discussions will now take place with the Premier League on a revised date for the fixture.
“Our fans are passionate about Manchester United, and we completely acknowledge the right to free expression and peaceful protest.
“However, we regret the disruption to the team and actions which put other fans, staff, and the police in danger. We thank the police for their support and will assist them in any subsequent investigations.”

Stay up to date with all the fall-out from Old Trafford in our live blog, below…
    THE WAIT GOES ON
We should currently be 35 minutes into the latest episode of Manchester United’s series of goalless draws with Liverpool, but instead we still await confirmation of a new kick-off time.
Sky Sports anchor Dave Jones has just suggested that the longer this uncertainty goes on, the worse it is for everyone.
Manchester United fans are aware that their club have a Europa League semi-final second leg in Italy on Thursday to prepare for.
Liverpool fans know their players have had an exhausting season, and need to be fresh for one final push at qualifying for Europe.
Line of Duty fans need a decision to be made before tonight’s finale… as you well know, fella.
    STADIUM SECURE
An Old Trafford announcement over the public address system has just advised stadium staff that the ground and its surrounding areas are now secure, and that they should return to their posts.
However, it remains unclear as to whether the protests that were taking place outside the Manchester United team hotel – understood to be The Lowry – have been similarly dispersed.
With no further news from the Premier League, the Sky Sports pundits are now debating whether the players will still be in the right frame of mind and required physical condition to play today.
    OLD TRAFFORD CLEARED
Old Trafford and its immediate surrounding areas have now been cleared of crowds, and the path is clear for the team buses to peacefully pass into the stadium.
We still await confirmation of a new kick-off time.
The police move protesting supporters away from Old Trafford.
    COPS OUT
A considerable police presence has grown outside of Old Trafford, and they are now attempting to disperse the hundreds of Manchester United fans still protesting.
The demonstrations have been peaceful until this point, but small skirmishes are now being reported on social media.
It is understood that the two teams remain in their hotels.

    GARY BLASTS GLAZERS
Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has just unleashed a superb rant in the direction of the Glazer family.
The Sky Sports pundit is furious with the manner in which the Old Trafford owners pushed for a European Super League, a move he believes would have spelt the end for many clubs in England and across Europe.
I think all football fans should unite behind what Manchester United fans have done today because what [the Glazers] did two weeks ago was really dangerous for English football: we should not forget that. They tried to walk away and cause a closed-shop league that would have created a famine in this country for every other club.Gary NevilleSky Sports
    UPDATE EXPECTED
The match officials have now made it inside Old Trafford but know as little as the rest of us in terms of when this game may kick-off.
Manchester United fans continue to demonstrate in their hundreds outside of the stadium in protest at how the Glazers are running their club, and the teams remain in their hotels.
A follow up from the Premier League is due imminently.

    KICK-OFF DELAYED
The Premier League have informed us that kick-off at Old Trafford has been delayed.
As of yet, they do not have confirmation of a new scheduled start time.
Meanwhile, both teams remained locked down at their hotels.
    LIVERPOOL SUBSTITUTES
    13 Adrian, 5 Wijnaldum, 8 Keita, 15 Oxlade-Chamberlain, 17 Jones, 20 Jota, 21 Tsimikas, 23 Shaqiri, 46 R Williams
    LIVERPOOL XI
Liverpool also make two changes following last weekend’s frustrating draw with Newcastle. Nat Phillips has recovered from his hamstring trouble so returns to partner Ozan Kabak in central defence while James Milner comes in for Diogo Jota; Georginio Wijnaldum also drops to the bench. Those changes allow Jurgen Klopp to return to his favoured 4-3-3 shape with Fabinho back in midfield, and the incoming Milner captaining the side.
    1 Alisson; 66 Alexander-Arnold, 47 Phillips, 19 Kobak, 26 Robertson; 6 Thiago, 3 Fabinho, 7 Milner; 11 Salah, 9 Firmino, 10 Mane

    MANCHESTER UNITED SUBSTITUTES
    1 De Gea, 3 Bailly, 7 Cavani, 8 Mata, 27 Telles, 31 Matic, 33 Williams, 34 Van de Beek, 38 Tuanzebe
    MANCHESTER UNITED XI
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer makes two changes from the side that thumped Roma in midweek. Dean Henderson, the manager’s preferred number one for league fixtures, returns in goal in place of David de Gea while Mason Greenwood is in for Edinson Cavani. Greenwood’s return to the side is likely to see the youngster on the right with Marcus Rashford returning to the head of United’s usual 4-2-3-1 formation.
    26 Henderson; 29 Wan-Bissaka, 2 Lindelof, 5 Maguire, 23 Shaw; 39 McTominay, 17 Fred; 11 Greenwood, 18 Fernandes, 6 Pogba; 10 Rashford

    THE TEAMSHEETS ARE IN!
We still do not know when or even if this game will go ahead today, but the two clubs have released their starting line-ups.
    REF GIVEN MARCHING ORDERS
Sky Sports News are reporting that match referee Michael Oliver has now been turned away from Old Trafford with hundreds of Manchester United fans demonstrating against the club’s owners, the Glazer family.
The players of Manchester United and Liverpool remain at their respective hotels as they wait for confirmation that the stadium and its surrounding areas are secure.

    DAMAGE DONE
Reports are coming in that broadcasting equipment has been damaged amid protests from Manchester United fans on the pitch inside Old Trafford.
We know that earlier that the Sky Sports studio – open air and pitchside – was targeted with chants and at least one flare by demonstrating supporters.
There are now DOUBTS over this afternoon’s game going ahead as planned.

    BUBBLE BURST?
There are suggestions filtering through on social media that some Man Utd fans remain inside Old Trafford despite the pitch being cleaed.
Meanwhile, there is a meeting ongoing between club officials, who are discussing whether Covid bubbles have been breached by the invasion of supporters inside the stadium.

    WAITING GAME
The Old Trafford pitch has now been cleared of demonstrating Manchester United fans, but Sky Sports are reporting that the players and staff of the two clubs remain at their hotel and will only leave once they are happy that the stadium and its perimeters are secure.
As it stands, the Premier League are confident that the game WILL go ahead as scheduled.
    PITCH CLEARED
The angry faction of Red Devils fans who were on the pitch appear to have cleared out.

    HOW IT STARTED
In case you’ve missed the breaking news, angry Manchester United fans have stormed Old Trafford in protest at the Glazer family’s continued ownership of the club.
Thousands of angry Red Devils supporters turned up outside the Theatre of Dreams to voice their discontent at the club’s owners.
An angry faction of fans made their way past security and somehow managed to get inside the stadium before storming the pitch.
It’s unclear whether or not they’re still on the pitch or if they’ve been moved on.

    CHOKABLOCK
Angry Red Devils fans have turned out in droves to protest the Glazer’s ownership of the club.
If the American family didn’t get the message before today, they will certainly will now.

    BREAKING POINT
This is the moment Manchester United fans made their way into Old Trafford after bypassing security.
No social distancing, a lack of masks and plenty of screaming and shouting.

    FLARES THROWN
The angry mob aren’t shy in voicing their angry towards the Glazers.
A number of flares have been thrown, one of which you can see in the video below.

    CHAOS
The scenes outside of Old Trafford before the angry mob broke through the barriers and made their way onto the pitch.

    IN JEOPARDY
MANCHESTER UNITED’s Premier League clash with bitter Liverpool is in doubt after furious Red Devils fans STORMED Old Trafford this afternoon.
Furious fans turned up to the Theatre of Dreams in their droves to protest the Glazers’ ownership of the club, which once again came under scrutiny after the club’s attempt to join the European Super League last month.
And somehow, they managed to get past security and make their way on to the Turf.
Hundreds of the Old Trafford faithful stormed the pitch and set off flares, some of which were thrown into the stand.
There’s currently no sign of security or police moving on the angry mob any time soon.
By the looks of it, this afternoon’s game against the Reds will likely be called off.

Between 20 and 30 protesters are believed to have broken through for a second time.

CAVANI WINS PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Edinson Cavani has been named United’s Player of the Month for April.
Speaking of the striker – who is out of contract in the summer – boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “He’s more than just a goal poacher and good goalscorer.
“He’s played for so long that he has that calmness and composure about him. He’s showing his experience. We want the experienced players to step up and he definitely has done.
“He was out for seven months and had not played for a long time before he came. He had injuries but worked hard, showed his quality. He knows I’d love to have him for another year.
“I understand it’s been very difficult for him. I’ve promised him Old Trafford and Manchester is a different place with fans in it.
“I’m doing my best! Hopefully, nights like this help him see himself here for another year.”
    THE R£D$
Liverpool have risen above Manchester United in the Premier League wage bill standings – but still sit miles adrift of Manchester City.
The official salary totals for the 2019-20 season have been confirmed.
Arsenal and Tottenham ran the tightest ship wage-wise, spending just £225m and £181m respectively last term.

    SHAW LOVES TRIO
Luke Shaw has also highlighted the importance of Bruno Fernandes, Edinson Cavani and Paul Pogba.
Speaking to the official United website, Shaw said: “In the big games, big moments, big players come alive. All three of them did against Roma.
“I think everyone was brilliant in the second half but, of course, we know the quality that they’ve got and possess and they showed that.
“Hopefully that can push them on now in the end of the season, every game now is very important. We want to finish the season high in the league and of course win the Europa League.”
    CONFIDENCE HIGH
Luke Shaw has admitted United’s confidence is high heading into today’s match against Liverpool.
Speaking to the official United website, Shaw said: “I’ve been here for a long time now, so I know how important this [the Liverpool] game is.
“Of course the players do but most importantly the fans as well. It’s a game we’re looking forward to.
“Of course, we come off the back of a really good win so confidence is high and we’re looking forward to the game on Sunday.”
    THE RUN-IN
United fans will be hoping they have six fixtures left to play this season after today’s match against Liverpool.
Next up is the second leg of the Europa League semi-final against Roma on Thursday, May 6.
Should United hold on to their 6-2 lead, they will face either Arsenal or Villarreal in the final on May 26.
Before then, they play Aston Villa, Leicester City, Fulham and Wolves in the Premier League.
United are currently second in the table, four points ahead of the Foxes in third having played a game less.
    POGBA READY
Paul Pogba has recognised the importance of today’s game against bitter rivals Liverpool.
Speaking to the United Review before the match, the World Cup winner said: “Obviously, every game is important but even more so against Liverpool; we know the rivalry between the two clubs.
“But we have to think about us – we are in second place and we want to stay there and push the first one [Manchester City], so obviously this is an important game for us and we want to win this one.”

    PREM SUCCESS
Let’s take a look at United’s Premier League season so far.
With 16 goals and 11 assists in the league, it’s hard to deny Bruno Fernandes has been their best player this year.
Luke Shaw’s revival is supported by the stats as he’s delivered 157 Premier League crosses this term.
Captain Harry Maguire, pulling the strings from the back, has made more than 2,000 passes in the league so far.
Here’s everything you need to know…

    SANCH-GO
Borussia Dortmund chief Michael Zorc has confirmed Jadon Sancho has a ‘gentlemen’s agreement’ in place regarding his future – but this is not the case for Erling Haaland.
Both Manchester United and Liverpool have been linked with the 21-year-old.
Speaking to ARD, Zorc said: “We already had a gentlemen’s agreement with Jadon last year that he can switch under certain conditions.
“He’s been with us for a couple of years. However, this agreement does not exist with Erling.”
Speaking of United’s pursuit of Sancho last summer, Zorc added: “In the end, the requirements were not met.”
    CAV IT ALL
For Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the equation is simple – a smile on the face of his dynamic duo over the next few weeks means a beaming grin on his own for months.
With an added bonus of convincing Manchester United’s third musketeer that the Theatre of Dreams is indeed the place to turn them into reality.
Solskjaer said: “Edi and Paul are winners but are also human beings. So it’s important they enjoy playing for this team.
“If we can play like we did against Roma, if we go again against Liverpool and they can feel our progress, our chances are bigger to keep them.
“I have always said with Paul I enjoy managing him, I enjoy coaching him, I enjoy talking to him and I also enjoy challenging him.
“You can see he’s enjoying himself here, he has a smile on his face.”

    REMEMBER NANI?
The ex-Manchester United winger scored a superb goal for current side Orlando City in last night’s match against Cincinnati.
Since leaving the Red Devils in 2015, Nani has played for Fenerbahce, Valencia, Lazio, Sporting and the MLS team.
    Here’s the goal…

    GOOD MORNING MAN UTD FANS
Paul Pogba will be sold this summer if he refuses to commit to signing a new deal at Manchester United.
Yet United are still confident they can keep him at Old Trafford — even though it will cost a fortune to do so.
And that is likely to lead to an exit for David De Gea, as the money saved on the keeper’s wages would help cover the hefty pay hike Pogba would demand.
The French midfielder, 28, could leave on a free when his contract ends in just over a year, with ex-club Juventus leading the chase. United chiefs are getting twitchy and want talks with his agent Mino Raiola.
They lost him for nothing when he joined Juve as a teen in 2012 — and paid out £89million to re-sign him in 2016.
Old Trafford bosses are keen to keep him, despite the fact he will want at least £500,000 a week.
United will also will reject any approaches for Donny van de Beek this summer despite a flop first season.
SunSport understands his former club Ajax are keen on bringing the Dutch midfielder back on loan.
But Old Trafford chiefs will reject that and issue a hands-off warning to any other interested teams.
United have big plans for the 24-year-old — who cost £40million last summer and has played just 330 minutes in the Premier League.
The Red Devils have told him to sit tight and he will get his chance — even though he has struggled to break into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s starting 11.

    ARSENAL’S RUN-IN
After today’s match against Newcastle, the Gunners will play West Brom, Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Brighton in the Premier League
Five wins will ensure they finish in the top half – and that has to be their aim.
Arsenal are currently 11th in the table.
More importantly, though, they must overcome Villarreal in the Europa League semi-final on Thursday if they want to keep their Champions League hopes alive.
Mikel Arteta’s side are currently 2-1 down in the tie.
Should they overcome the Spanish side, they will face either Manchester United or Roma in the final on May 26.
    WILL NOT TO PLAY
Arsenal loanee Joe Willock is ineligible to play against his parent club today.
Boss Mikel Arteta has been impressed with the 21-year-old’s progress, telling Arsenal’s official website: “It was a difficult decision to let him go because we really like the player.
“He needed more game-time and needed this type of experience. He has stepped in at big moments for them and scored some crucial goals so that is really good news because it is great for his development.
“From the position [Newcastle are] in, they’re going to come at us. They’re a really organised team, they’ve been playing much better recently so it will be tough.
“The amount of games that we are playing, every team has the capacity to make it difficult for you.”
    SOUMA SIGNING
Arsenal are reportedly confident of fending off competition from other clubs to prise Yves Bissouma away from Brighton for £30million.
The North London giants are known to be admirers of the Mali international, who is understood to be a ‘huge fan’ of the Gunners.
It was reported in March that Mikel Arteta’s side asked to be ‘kept informed’ of the 24-year-old’s situation at the Amex Stadium ahead of a potential summer swoop.
Liverpool have also been heavily linked with the ex-Lille midfielder as a potential replacement for Barcelona target Georginio Wijnaldum.
Reds legend John Barnes has urged his former employers to nab Bissouma, who has also attracted interest from Manchester United.
And according to the Daily Star, Tottenham, Everton and West Ham have all made inquiries to Brighton over a potential move for the player.
But they state that it is Arsenal that are winning the race to sign Bissouma with the FA Cup holders confident of securing his services.

ARTETA HOPING TO RECONNECT WITH FANS
Mikel Arteta is hoping to reconnect with the disillusioned fans who want owner Stan Kroenke to leave Arsenal.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Arteta said: “We really need them; to be with the team, to believe in the team, to support them.
“With them closer, we are much stronger.
“That’s what we ask them and we promise them we’ll give everything we can to fulfil their expectations, to give them some joy and some special moments.”

    EURO GLORY
Kelly Smith is backing Chelsea to steal Arsenal’s limelight by ending their spell of being the only women’s football club from England to conquer Europe.
And the Gunners’ icon believes ‘energiser’ Hayes will have her players ‘riled up’ to knock Bayern Munich out of the Champions League.
Smith told SunSport: “Emma was a young coach and still learning the trade when she was at Arsenal.
“But you could see she was hungry, passionate and a real energiser coach who really loved being out on the field.
“She got massive amounts of experience coaching in America after leaving the club and really developed Chelsea’s game. They are very lucky to have her.
“I hope they can perform, get to the final and try and take away Arsenal’s mantle of being the only team to lift the trophy.
“And I’m sure Emma’s going to get them riled up and ready.
“It’s a huge opportunity for them to get to the final and they’re going to believe that they can do it being at home with that home advantage.”

    INJURY UPDATES
The Gunners have given an update on the fitness of Alexandre Lacazette, David Luiz and Kieran Tierney on their official website.
Lacazette is out of today’s match with a hamstring injury but is hoping to be in contention for Thursday’s crucial Europa League clash with Villarreal.
Luiz has a knock to his right knee but may still feature today.
Tierney has resumed full training following a knee injury and could be involved against Newcastle.
There are no other injury concerns and all other first-team players are available for selection.
    UP FOR SALE
The Mail on Sunday are reporting Arsenal have gone up for sale.
Unpopular owner Stan Kronke is believed to want £1.7BILLION for the London club.
Spotify CEO and Arsenal fan Daniel Ek, believed to be worth more than £3bn, has expressed an interest in buying the Gunners.
The fans want Kronke to leave the Emirates following the European Super League scandal and the team’s decline in recent years.
The newspaper are also reporting Arsenal have effectively been on sale for two years – but Kronke is yet to receive the right offer.

    ARSENAL STATS
Let’s take a look at Arsenal’s Premier League season so far.
As they sit in 11th, it’s fair to say it hasn’t been a great year for boss Mikel Arteta.
It appears Granit Xhaka has been his main man this season, making the most passes, tackles and fouls for the Gunners in the Prem.
Alexandre Lacazette has been delivering the goods in front of goal, scoring 13 in the league.
Here’s an overview of their Prem campaign so far…

    TODAY’S OPPONENTS
Newcastle are 17th in the Premier League, nine points above Fulham in the relegation zone having played a game less.
While they may already have enough points to stay in the top flight, a win today would all but guarantee their safety – and could propel them up to 13th in the table.
A win for Arsenal, meanwhile, would see them jump back into the top half.
Steve Bruce’s side will be desperate to get three points today and secure their place in the Premier League for another year.
    GOOD MORNING ARSENAL FANS
Bukayo Saka has upset neighbours by leaving piles of earth outside his home.
The 19-year-old Arsenal and England star is having a football pitch with changing room installed at the £2.3million mansion he bought only last year.
He called in bulldozers to level off the back garden — but they left what residents call a mountain of mud.
Arsenal are among the clubs interested by the news that Bayern Munich are open to selling Corentin Tolisso.
According to Kicker, the German giants will consider bids ahead of his contract expiring in 2022.
The Gunners are set to rival Manchester United, Napoli, Juventus, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid
    HERO
John Lennon once caused outrage by saying The Beatles were “more popular than Jesus”. And George was a rock ’n’ roll footballer with his long hair, his swagger and his anti-establishment attitude.
In the weeks, months and years after the 1971 FA Cup Final, kids from North London to Newcastle copied the celebration.
For young fans, it was the football equivalent of David Bowie’s seminal appearance on Top Of The Pops a year later — and George became a 1970s icon.
The man himself enjoys the pop-idol description. Now 70, George said: “Why not? I think it’s great. As a youngster, I loved all the Tamla Motown but the Rolling Stones were my favourites.
“And I scored the winning goal with my long hair. I didn’t know I was going to do it — it wasn’t planned. I just thought it was a great thing at the time.
What are you going to do? You’ve got to celebrate. Be different! I like to think I was different.”

    DEMAND MAR
Pablo Mari has called for Arsenal to get right in the faces of Villarreal in next week’s second leg.
He told club media: “I think it’s not a really bad result thinking about that we’re 2-0 down with one player less, I think a really good reaction from the team.
“But for me I think for me we don’t have to wait to go into that situation to react. I think we have to learn about that and we have to put all the effort starting from minute zero next week to go to the final.
“I don’t know [why we made a sluggish start]. At the end you’re on the pitch and I try to help everybody, but we did some mistakes and I think this is key because they like to play football and they know when you do a mistake to go on that side and take the goals. So at the end we have to learn from that.
“We have to go full gas from minute zero and go with everything to win the game.”
    DIRTY PLAYER
Bukayo Saka has upset neighbours by leaving piles of earth outside his home.
The 19-year-old Arsenal and England star is having a football pitch with changing room installed at the £2.3million mansion he bought only last year.
He called in bulldozers to level off the back garden — but they left what residents call a mountain of mud.
One of his neighbours near Hatfield, Herts, said: “The building work is causing a real eyesore.
“It’s a horrendous sight and a lot of the neighbours aren’t at all happy.
“The area has a lot of very well-to-do people who don’t expect this sort of thing.”
But another said; “If he keeps scoring for Arsenal, I’m not bothered.”

    FAN RAGE
Manchester United’s game with Liverpool has been DELAYED after fuming fans stormed locked-down Old Trafford in a security breach.
A planned protest against the Red Devils’ owners, the Glazers, led to a stand-off with police at the entrance to the hotel just hours before the game.
Supporters chanted and lit flares next to the team bus as it waited for the squad.
And a demonstration featuring a large number of fans outside Old Trafford led to hundreds rushing onto the pitch.
Footage emerged online of fans chanting towards the Sky Sports television studio and cameras set up in the main stand.
One clip even showed a flare being hurled in the direction of the gantry, while protestors were also seen carrying the United corner flags.
Authorities managed to usher the crowds off the pitch but amid the chaos the match has been pushed back, but no revised kick-off time has been confirmed.
    BILLY’S RIGHT TUCH
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel picked out Mason Mount and Billy Gilmour for their performances in the win over Fulham.
Tuchel described Mount as the ‘full package’ and admits young midfielder Gilmour has convinced him.
Scotland teenager Gilmour was handed his first Premier League start under Tuchel and he made a big impression.

    WORK OF ART
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has revealed he has been left ‘encouraged’ by the club’s summer plans after chief Josh Kroenke spoke of his excitement.
Despite the risk of being without European football next term, the Gunners are already looking at potential signings with Brighton’s Yves Bissouma being eyed up.

    NOT ON THE VIRG
Jurgen Klopp has claimed Holland would be risking Virgil van Dijk’s career by rushing him back for the Euros.
The Dutch defender was ruled out for the season after a horror challenge from Everton’s Jordan Pickford ruptured his cruciate knee ligament last October.
The Liverpool manager said: “I don’t want to hold Virgil back but you can’t force it as well.
“You are all long enough in the business to know that if you want to play you have to train before – and proper football training.
“It takes weeks. Not a week before. You cannot be 10 or 11 months out, train for one week and then play football. That is not possible, it should not be possible.
“No one is holding Virgil back – I can promise all the people in Holland that we cannot force it, and we will not.”
    TRANSFER SERGE
Everton have reportedly joined the race to land Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.
The Argentina star is leaving on a free transfer this summer and a host of clubs are chasing his signature.
According to the Daily Star, Everton are the latest club to express an interest in signing Aguero.
Carlo Ancelotti wants to strengthen his team’s attack and the arrival of the 32-year-old striker would provide a major boost heading into next season.
The Toffees are reportedly ready to offer Aguero a big signing on fee to convince him to move to Goodison Park.
    POCH LUCK
Mauricio Pochettino’s son Maurizio has made his senior debut after featuring in Watford’s 2-0 defeat against Brentford.
The 20-year-old – who joined the Hornets on a permanent deal from Tottenham in January – has impressed since linking up with the academy.
He scored a sublime left-footed strike on his debut for the Under-23’s in a 3-2 win against Ipswich.
And he then found the back of the net in the victories against Millwall and Swansea.
His stellar form earned him a place on the bench for the Championship clash against Wycombe in March, where he was an unused substitute.
But he was rewarded with a first-team debut on Saturday as he replaced Dan Gosling with five minutes remaining at the Brentford Community Stadium.

The race is on to qualify for next season’s Champions League with a host of teams scuffling over the few remaining places.
Manchester City are already in the hat with Manchester United soon to secure their spot, leaving potentially three more spaces in the competition.
Typically, the top-four of the Premier League all reach the group stage with Leicester and Chelsea well set as things stand.
The Blues hold a six-point advantage over fifth-placed West Ham and Liverpool are a point further back, with both clubs yet to play this weekend.
Tottenham and Everton are also in the picture although the Toffees’ defeat to Aston Villa left them nine points behind with only five games to go.
But, as these clubs fight over fourth place, there is still a possibility that it still will not be enough.

    SHAW LOVES TRIO
Luke Shaw has also highlighted the importance of Bruno Fernandes, Edinson Cavani and Paul Pogba.
Speaking to the official Manchester United website, Shaw said: “In the big games, big moments, big players come alive.
    HOT ROD
Tottenham are interested in signing 18-year-old Brazilian wonderkid Rodrigo Varanda.
The 18-year-old Corinthians winger has been watched by impressed Spurs scouts over the last few years.
SunSport understands there have already been initial talks over an £8.5m deal to bring him to the Premier League.
He is out of contract next January, and is allowed to begin talks with over a free transfer from this August.
But the Brazilian side don’t want him to go for nothing, and want him to extend his contract to land a fee.
His team are believed to already be working on getting the correct paperwork for him to make a move to the UK.
Varanda can play anywhere across the attack, and is comfortable on both the left and the ring wing.
    CONFIDENCE HIGH
Luke Shaw has admitted Manchester United’s confidence is high heading into today’s match against Liverpool.
    KAI OH MY
Kai Havertz pleaded with Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel to let him loose on Real Madrid.
The German scored twice to leave Fulham on the brink of relegation and stake his claim to start Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final second leg against the Spanish giants.
Havertz hit the target in each half and was unlucky not to grab a hat trick in a performance that a delighted Tuchel hailed as ‘perfect’.
Havertz said: “I scored very early so it gave me a little bit of confidence, it is always good to score and I’m happy to help the team. I hope I can continue like this on Wednesday.
“I’m always desperate to start games, I play football. But I know we have a lot of quality players in the team and the other players play well as well. I keep going, train hard and give my best.”
Chelsea emerged with no injuries and a clean sheet from a game which puts them six points clear in the all-important fourth spot.
ARTETA HOPING TO RECONNECT WITH FANS
Mikel Arteta is hoping to reconnect with the disillusioned fans who want owner Stan Kroenke to leave Arsenal.

    POGBA READY
Paul Pogba has recognised the importance of today’s game between rivals Manchester United and Liverpool.

    MANE MEN
Jurgen Klopp may be forced to break up the band to kick-start a bid for new success next season.
The Liverpool boss relied on his Fab Three of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane to get the goals that brought Champions League glory then a first top-flight title in 30 years.
Salah, 28, whose deal also expires in two years, has raised doubts about his future. He revealed there has been no discussion on extending his stay beyond that.
The winger hinted that he was disgruntled earlier this season and he admits: “No one is talking to me about anything, so I can’t say much about that.”
But he insists his focus is still at Anfield, adding: “I said before that I want to win the Premier League again — and I want to win the Champions League again.
“It’s a great thing to win, I’m just trying to win it again and again and again because part of our job is we need to.”

    HAYES HOPE
Emma Hayes is dreaming of Chelsea sealing a historic Champions League double by becoming kings and queens of club football in Europe.
And the Kingsmeadow chief hailed Thomas Tuchel, 47, for buying into the winning mentality being encouraged by the Blues.
Hayes, 44, said: “I had a lovely encounter with Thomas Tuchel, he’s a fantastic guy, really open-minded and progressive coach.
“There’s a reason why the men’s team are performing like they are and to mirror that success, side by side, how fantastic that would be.
“I’ve always said this about Chelsea, we always talk about winning in this place, that’s what comes with the territory.
“We don’t mind the pressure, the expectations, the tags, the titles, whatever comes with it, we just know we’re a club that wants to be in winning positions.
“It’s great to think that both the men’s and women’s teams have reached these stages.
“But as I’ll always say we’re about winning things, not just getting here.”

    TIM TO SHINE
Timo Werner became the first Chelsea star in eight years to reach double figures for goals and assists in a debut season.
A perfectly-weighted through ball to Kai Havertz helped make it 2-0 against Fulham on Saturday as the Blues strengthened their grip on a top-four place.
It meant a tenth assist on the season for Werner, 25, to go with his 11 goals in all competitions.
Despite attracting criticism for his slow start at Stamford Bridge, he has become the first Chelsea player to reach the double-figure mark for both feats since Eden Hazard in 2012-13.
And only four Premier League players had achieved the same so far this season; Son Heung-min, Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Harry Kane.

F1 Portuguese Grand Prix LIVE RESULTS: Hamilton LEADS with Verstappen in scrap with Bottas for second – updates

LEWIS HAMILTON has overtaken team-mate Valtteri Bottas after gaining two places after a safety car.
    UK start time: 3pm
    TV channel: Sky Sports F1
Live stream: Sky Go (Sky Sports subscribers)/Now TV (non-subscribers)

We’ll be bringing you all of the twists and turn from Portimao right here…
    LAP 58
Fernando Alonso gets past his countryman Carlos Sainz and in to 8th place.
It has not been a great start to his F1 return for the two-time world champion, but he is on for points here.
    LAP 56
Perez sets the fastest lap. He is currently in P4 and will get a bonus point if he holds on to it.
    MAZEPIN GETS A PENALTY
A five second time penalty added to his time for ignoring blue flags and failing to allow Perez to pass.
    LAP 51
Hamilton is back into the lead as Perez is passed down the pitstraight.
Hamilton, unsure asks his team if it was Verstappen, unaware that the Mexican was leading the race having yet to pit for tyres.
    MAZEPIN MAKING NO FRIENDS
He blocks Perez. That’s the last-place car blocking the race leader. He could be feeling the wrath of the race stewards for that.
Mazepin is so far back in this race, I think he is still in April.
    LAP 44
A rare message over the radio from Toto Wolff to Bottas. The Mercedes boss gives his man a gee-up telling him he has the fastest car on track.
Motivational? Or just adding pressure? Either way, this has not been good from Bottas
    PEREZ IS KEY HERE
He might not be in the running for the win here, but he can hold up Hamilton and push him into Verstappen’s race.
    LAP 38
Hamilton now stops for tyres. The stop is good and he resumes racing in second place, behind Perez, but the Mexican is yet to pit.
That has certainly closed things up a bit and Bottas is out of the way now, allowing Verstappen to close up.
    LAP 37
Bottas now stops for his tyres. The Mercedes man is held for a little longer. Verstappen stopped at 2.6 seconds. Bottas’s stop was 3.3 seconds.
Bottas comes out of the pits in the lead. But Verstappen has hotter tyres. He gets past the Finn and into second.
    LAP 36
Red Bull gamble and call in Verstappen for fresh tyres. He has to make them count to eat in to Bottas’s time.
The pitstop from Red Bull is executed with perfection.
    LAP 35
Hamilton now has a four second lead over Bottas, who has a 1.3 second advantage over Verstappen.
After the early drama, this race has slowly become a procession.
    LAP 31
Approaching the halfway stage of this race and it is Hamilton, Bottas, Verstappen, Perez, Ricciardo, Alonso, Stroll.
    FLURRY OF PITSTOPS
But the top three at yet to stop. They are all running on the more-durable medium tyres.
EVERY YEAR HE THINKS IT IS GOING TO BE HIS YEAR…
But Bottas just simply has no answer to his teammate. After taking pole the previous day, this was his change to stay ahead, build up a lead and get the job done.
Hamilton, went down to third, got to second. And now capitalised on a mistake from Bottas to go into the lead.
He is now opening up a lead at the front, just as Bottas should have done.
    LAP 20
Hamilton gets Bottas. The Brit is into the lead as Bottas moved to the right into Turn One.
Strange move from Bottas, as Hamilton is able to take the racing line and he has squeezed past his teammate.
It was clean from Hamilton. Poor from Bottas.
    LAP 17
Bottas stays in front with Hamilton just running behind him. It looks like the Brit is just staying within touching distance, while Verstappen is a further second behind.
It is the two Mercedes followed by the two Red Bulls, then Lando Norris and the two Ferraris.
    LAP 11
Hamilton strikes back. A mistake from Verstappen at Turn 14 allowed the world champion to make up ground.
He was able to convert that with a good overtake to regain second place. This is great stuff.

    LAP 10
Verstappen closing the gap on Bottas as the Red Bull man has the benefit of DRS.
Hamilton also within DRS range. This is getting tasty.
    VERSTAPPEN JUMPS HAMILTON
The Dutchman builds up speed on the restart and gets past Hamilton into Turn One.
That was great from Verstappen, who got the move done cleanly an caught Hamilton cold.
It is Bottas, Verstappen, Hamilton, Norris, Perez, Sainz, Leclerc, Ocon, Gasly, Vettel.
SAFETY CAR IS IN THIS LAP
Racing is going to resume as the mess from Raikkonen’s smash has now been cleared up.
    POOR MISTAKE FROM RAIKKONEN
TV replays show the experienced Finn simply drove into the rear of his teammate.
What was he thinking? He was certainly not looking at the road ahead. Very poor from Raikkonen.
SAFETY CAR – RAIKKONEN IS OUT
Early drama as the Alfa Romeo man loses his front wing after tagging his teammate. He sends carbon-fibre and sparks everywhere as the front wing is lodged under his car.
The race officials have deployed the Safety Car as they clean up the wreckage. Raikkonen is out of this race as he pulls on to a service road.
GO, GO, GO! WE ARE OFF IN PORTUGAL
Bottas holds the lead into Turn One, Hamilton stays second. Verstappen in third but Perez is struggling and passed by Sainz.
Fantastic move from Norris around Ocon to regain sixth place.
    FORMATION LAP
All systems go. And as the clock ticks to 3pm, the cars complete their formation laps.
