    RACE RESULTS
    Here’s the Spanish GP result.
Lewis Hamilton’s late charge has given him his third victory of the season.
He needs just two more to reach 100 wins.
Max Verstappen was second and Valtteri Bottas finished in third.

KING OF SPAIN – LEWIS HAMILTON WINS THE SPANISH GP
A perfectly executed strategy to win this race as Verstappen had lead from the first corner of the first lap right up until lap 60.
But with seven laps to go, Hamilton passed the Red Bull man for glory. The Dutchman gets a bonus point for setting the fastest lap.
Bottas in third place ahead of Leclerc. Perez in fifth. Ricciardo in sixth.
LAP 63 VERSTAPPEN SETS FASTEST LAP
He is on for a bonus point, which is scant consolation given he was leading until the last seven laps.
    LAP 61
Verstappen pits for tyres as he gets new tyres and has a shot at setting the fastest lap and earning the bonus point.
    LAP 60
Hamilton gets Verstappen. He passes him in to Turn One and in to the lead.
Good job that all round from Mercedes.
    LAP 57
Bottas gets past Leclerc and in to third place. It is Verstappen, Hamilton, Bottas, Leclerc, Perez, Ricciardo, Sainz, Ocon, Norris, Alonso.
    HAMILTON GETS PAST BOTTAS
Back to Hamilton verses Verstappen. The Red Bull man leads for the time being but his tyres are shot.
    LAP 52
Bottas told not to hold Hamilton up. But the Finn ignored the order. Hamilton had to pull off an overtake to get past his team mate.
    RUSSELL HUNTING FOR POINTS

    LAP 49
Verstappen is 16 seconds ahead of Hamilton. Still 16 laps to go.
    LAP 48
Verstappen says: “I don’t see how we are going to make it to the end.”
    HAMILTON GETTING CLOSER TO VERSTAPPEN

    HAMILTON STOPS FOR TYRES
The Brit darted in to the pits at the last minute on lap 44 to stop for tyres.
He will lose time but of course now had fresh tyres. Verstappen now has to get to the end on these tyres.
This is shaping up for a great final.
    VERSTAPPEN VERSUS HAMILTON
This is turning into an epic fight. Maybe not the most exciting on track battle but intriguing nonetheless. Final laps will be exciting.
    QUESTIONS OVER MERCEDES STRATEGY
After Red Bull’s slow stop of 4 seconds, Mercedes could have called in Hamilton for tyres on the following lap.
Had they done that, he would be in the lead. At the moment, however, he is behind Verstappen but is quicker and on fresher tyres.
    LAP 28
Hamilton called in for tyres. It is a solid stop that takes 2.7 seconds.
That has put Verstappen back in front.
    HAMILTON HELD UP BY MAZEPIN
Toto Wolff complaining to Race Control that the Russian was holding his driver up.
Hamilton now prolonging his stint on his first set of tyres. It means he will have fresher tyres late in the race.
    HAMILTON TURNS UP THE WICK
He has put pressure on Verstappen, who stops for tyres. Red Bull, usually so reliable with their pitstops, make a slow one. Almost four seconds.
That has given Hamilton a huge advantage. He has stayed out on track and is now blasting out the laps on his remaining tyres.
    LAP 21
The top two are pulling away from the rest of the field. This is a great battle between them.
Fourth race of the season and the fourth time they have slugged it out. Great stuff.
Ignore the top two and the fight for third – Leclerc versus Bottas – is also close.
Ricciardo, Perez, Ocon, Sainz, Norris, Stroll is the top 10.
    LAP 17
Verstappen v Hamilton. Just 1.2 seconds in it. But this is a two-horse race. These two are relentless. Thumping out the laps, despite having a heavy fuel load.

    LAP 11 RACE RESTART
Safety Car is in and the racing resumes. Verstappen keeps the lead. Leclerc stays in front of Bottas.
Stroll passes Alonso to move in to 10th place.
    UNLUCKY FOR TSUNODA

TSUNODA HAS STOPPED ON TRACK – SAFETY CAR DEPLOYED
He is getting out of his AlphaTauri after it conked out. The Safety Car has been deployed while a crane will be used to recover his stricken motor.
This will reel in Verstappen’s advantage. And give Bottas a good chance of getting past Leclerc.
    LAP 6
Verstappen still holds that 1.4 second gap, which keeps him out of the DRS zone. Hamilton on P2.
Leclerc is in P3 and holding off Bottas in fourth. The Finn is like a sinking ship.
    LAP 1
Verstappen has pulled a 1.2 second gap on Hamilton. He is absolutely motoring.

Canelo Alvarez vs Billy Joe Saunders LIVE RESULTS: Mexican sends Saunders to hospital with horror ‘fractured eye socket’

CANELO ALVAREZ brutally stopped Billy Joe Saunders in the eighth round of their Texas showdown. The fight was mightily close until Canelo stepped up a gear in the eighth round and Saunders corner pulled him following a horror eye injury.
It has now been revealed Saunders suffered a fractured eye socket from an uppercut and has been taken to hospital.

Claim more than £800 in bonus cash and 350 free spins

The bout took place over at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas with 73,000 fans in attendance.

    TV/ live stream: DAZN
Start time: Fight started at 4.27am BST

Follow ALL of the latest reaction and updates below…
    SILLY BILLY
Saunders tried to taunt Canelo with the ‘Tyson Fury tongue’ before being smashed up and sent to hospital.
The British super-middleweight took a leaf out of his close pal’s textbook by sticking out his tongue during his title fight.

    IN THE EU-BANK
Chris Eubank Jr landed a huge cash windfall after betting on Canelo Alvarez to stop Billy Joe Saunders – then called out the unified champ.
The British middleweight star stuck £10,000 on the Mexican to win the fight before it went the full 12 rounds.
And with odds of evens, he doubled his money when Saunders quit from his stool after the eighth.
In a video of him watching the moment BJS quit, Eubank Jr was in hysterics and called his fellow Brit a “wet bag”.
Now a charity of his choice is on course for a bumper donation with Eubank promising to give the winnings away to a good cause.
    ANOTHER LOSS
Derek Chisora’s dreadful week went from bad to worse last night as he lost £8,500 after Billy Joe Saunders was beaten by Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
The British heavyweight suffered a second successive defeat eight days ago when he was on the wrong end of a split decision against Joseph Parker.
But Chisora was hoping his fortunes would change yesterday when he backed Saunders to cause a huge upset by beating Alvarez.
Earlier this week, Del Boy showed off a 10,000 euro bet he had placed on Saunders.
It showed the potential winnings as 62,000 euros.
Yet it wasn’t to be as Canelo fractured Saunders’ orbital socket with an uppercut in the eighth round which lead to the Brit’s trainer Mark Tibbs throwing in the towel before the start of the ninth.

    TAKING THE MAC
Conor McGregor appears to have mocked Billy Joe Saunders after the British boxer’s corner threw in the towel at the end of the eighth round of his fight against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
The former WBO super-middleweight champion suffered a fractured orbital socket following an uppercut from Canelo, an injury which saw his right eye completely close up.
And Saunders’ trainer Mark Tibbs decided to pull him out of the fight as a result, much to the disappointment of many boxing fans who had seen a thrilling fight up to that point.
UFC star McGregor had little sympathy – seemingly mocking Saunders with a picture of fellow MMA rival Nate Diaz.
The image was a bloodied shot of Diaz from UFC 202 when he and McGregor went to war for a second time.
Diaz’s right eye was almost entirely closed but he fought on for the five rounds, only to lose to the Irishman on the scorecards.

    CANELO’S 15 BELTS
Canelo has now won a remarkable 15 world championship belts during his illustrious career.
The 30-year-old is a four-weight world champion and needs just the IBF belt – held by Caleb Plant – to complete his super-middleweight collection.

    PLANTING THE SEEDS?
What’s next for Canelo after his victory against Saunders?
The only super middleweight belt he needs to complete his collection is the IBF one held by Caleb Plant.
The 28-year-old is undefeated in his 21 fights and has successfully defended his belt three times since winning it against Jose Uzcategui in 2019.
But is Plant up to the challenge?
Here is his reaction from last night…

    FURY PREDICTION
Tyson Fury’s pre-fight prediction was half right – there was a masterclass in Texas.
Except it was Canelo who delivered the masterclass as he reaffirmed his status as one of the greats of the modern era.
Here’s what Fury said before the fight…

    MORE CROWD SCRAPS
There was at least two fights in the crowd during the Canelo/Saunders bout.
What could they be possibly arguing about?
Do we need home and away sections for boxing matches now?
    Incredible…

    WHAT A MOMENT
Here’s that incredible uppercut from Canelo…

    FAN GETS TATTOO
A Billy Joe Saunders fan got a huge 31-0 back tattoo of the British boxer, anticipating he would defeat Canelo Alvarez.
The tattoo is of Saunders holding Canelo’s decapitated head.
Is it easy to change a tattoo?

    BUT DUBOIS SUPPORTS BILLY JOE
Despite Saunders’ comments last year, Dubois has backed his fellow Brit on Twitter.
You fought well @bjsaunders_ hope your eye heels up quickly and you can come back stronger champ 👊🏿— Daniel Dubois (@DynamiteDubois) May 9, 2021

    WORDS HAUNT SAUNDERS
Saunders has come under fire on Twitter after some comments he made about Daniel Dubois’ eye injury.
The British heavyweight suffered the nasty injury during his defeat to Joe Joyce last year.
This is what Saunders, who suffered a similar injury last night, had to say…

    SAUNDERS SOAKS IT UP
Before Canelo broke his face, Saunders seemed to enjoy every moment of the biggest fight of his career to date.
The Brit was seen dancing in front of the crowd as he began his ring walk.
It wasn’t meant to be for him on the night – will he get another chance?

    THE REAL FIGHT?
A brawl broke out during last night’s fight between Canelo and Saunders.
It’s unlikely any of these gents would stand a chance against world champ Canelo – or an injured Saunders, for that matter.

    KARMA?
A few fight fans believe the painful end to Billy Joe Saunders’ night was comeuppance for his woeful treatment of a Mexican reporter.
The live ESPN broadcast during fight week was ruined by Saunders’ childish ‘humour’.

    ONE MORE BELT
Canelo now just needs the 12st IBF belt to complete the set of the four major crowns.
Caleb Plant has the red strap but Canelo has not been denied at 168lbs yet…

    RING OF FIRE
Boxing bible Ring Magazine took a spiteful shot at Billy Joe Saunders last night.
The mag has now apologised and is trying to work out who posted the mean message…
Earlier this evening, the attached Tweet was posted and subsequently deleted from this account. We apologise wholeheartedly for this unprofessional and horrible take. We are currently investigating to find out the precise location from where this Tweet originated. pic.twitter.com/ePKBL43Mq1— Bible of Boxing (@ringmagazine) May 9, 2021

    BLACK AND BLUE
Tyson Fury will be disappointed with the defeat his friend Billy Joe Saunders suffered tonight.
And he was ringside in Dallas, Texas, with an eye injury of his own picked up sparring in his Las Vegas training camp.
Eddie Hearn claims the AJ undispited decider will be announced next week…
    CANEL-GO!
Demetrius Andrade gatecrashed Canelo’s post-fight victory press conference and demands a fight.
But the Mexican pound-for-pound king is not in the mood for games…

    GYPSY CODE
Heavyweight and friend Tom Little has defended Saunders’ decison to surrender with the eye injury he suffered.
Little believes his frllow Traveller will bounce back…

    PLANT THE SEED
IBF super-middlweight champion Caleb Plant has the one 12st belt missing from Canelo’s ever-expanding collection.
And the American looks ready to face the pound-for-pound superstar…

    SWEARING WARNING
Demetrious Andrade, the WBO middleweight champion, just gatecrashed Canelo’s press conference.
The tricky American southpaw asked the pound-for-pound king to fight him and got a spiteful x-rated reply…
Canelo just told Demetrius Andrade “get the f*ck out of here, man,” when Andrade asked Canelo to fight him at some point during Canelo’s post-fight press conference. Andrade & his father, Paul, were escorted out of the press conference.— Keith Idec (@Idecboxing) May 9, 2021

    EAGLE-EYED ED
Hearn says: “You could see as soon as Canelo hit him that his eye socket was caved in.
“Billy went back to Mark Tibbs and said that he could not see and they have pulled him out of the fight.
“Because he couldn’t see, the next round would have been a dangerous situation.”
    [embedded content]
    NOT THE RESPONCE I WANTED
Billy Joe Saunders went back to his corner after round eight with a nasty bruise around his eye.
Trainer Mark Tibbs asked him if he felt he continue and it seems Saunders said no…

    TRAINER OF THE YEAR
Canelo’s childhood trainer and mentor Eddy Reynoso knew his chsrge would get it done in the later rounds.
The Mexican mastermind was beaming with pride as his protege took another leap btoward becoming the undisputed champ.
    Reunoso said: “One more step!
“An honor and a pride to be Mexican, today it was shown that when it comes to support we put on the batteries!
“More than 70,000 people gathered just to support the Mexican sportsman !
“Thank you for your support friends! We will continue to work hard to have many nights like this!”

    TALENT GOES UNDEFEATED

DAVIS GETS IT – AND IT’S A SHUTOUT
No surprises here, as Keyshawn Davis wins it on the scorecards, all three 60-54.
He looked classy throughout, but never looked like he was going to get the durable Mexican out of there.
    SIXTH AND FINAL ROUND
Meza makes it to the sixth, but has probably lost every round.
Davis goes for some big shots already, but the hands don’t connect.
Meza moving but not really landing anything of note.
    MEZA STILL THERE
The Mexican has weathered the early storm and is out for the third.
He hasn’t been stopped in his 10 fights, so it would be some performance to get him out of there.
    STUNNING OPENING ROUND
Davis had his opponent rocked at the end of the first.
A sign of things to come methinks…
    TOP TALENT NEXT
The much-hyped Keyshawn Davis is up next, he faces Jose Antonio Meza.
Many will be expecting a short night’s work for Davis, who has stopped both of his opponents since turning pro.
Davis had a stunning amateur career, and is on his third fight in 70 days.
    UNDERCARD LATEST
Zavier Wilson sported a scary mask on his way to the ring…but was stopped in two rounds by Christian Alan Gomez Duran.

Talks how Saunders has to prove he has what it takes to perform on the biggest stage.
He says he will ‘genuinely be gutted for whoever loses’.
Describes it as ‘a big night for boxing’ and that ‘the eyes of the world will be on this tonight’.
    WILSON FUMING
The first Mexican victory tonight, as Wilson is stopped after being floored by Gomez.
The American is FUMING at the referee, but he looked somewhat vacant when the ref was looking into his eyes.
    FANS ARE BACK!
The A&T Stadium is filling up, slightly, but still well off the projected 70,000-plus that will be there for the main event.
It should be a terrific sight and a big hope for sport over here in the UK to see America bouncing back after the coronavirus pandemic.
Can Billy Joe put on the most sensational of shows to shock the stadium? We will see in just over five hours time.
    UNDERCARD CONTINUES
The boxing has started already by the way, as four undercard fights are being streamed by Matchroom’s social channels.
Zavier Wilson on now, walks out in a Deontay Wilder-type mask, remember him?

Alan Gomez Duran vs Xavier Wilson
    Kelvin Davis vs Jan Marsalek

    CAN HE BE STOPPED?
Here’s a taster of what Billy Joe Saunders has to face this evening.
It’s going to be a tough ask for the British star.

    STAGE IS SET
What a sight this will be with 70,000 fans in attendance later tonight.
AT&T Stadium in Texas is looking nothing short of sensational.

    THE LATE SHOW
    Set your alarms, boxing fans!
It’s going to be a special night in Texas.

    ‘I DON’T GIVE A S***’
Billy Joe Saunders won’t be intimidated by Canelo Alvarez this evening.
He told DAZN: “The intimidation in this sport goes a long, long way – and control.
“There will be no controlling me.
“There’ll be none of this turning up late, doing this, doing what he wants – he’s the star of the show. I don’t give a s*** if he’s the star of the show.
“He may be the star of the show on paper, but trust me – it will not be all working his own way… he’ll have a very big shock.”
Billy Joe Saunders refuses to feel intimidatedCredit: Reuters

    MORE FROM CHRIS ALGIERI
Don’t poke the bear. It seems like it. It was funny that exchange with the handshake and the fist,” Algieri added when asked if Canelo will make Saunders pay for his trash talk.
“I thought that was really indicative because it seemed like Billy Joe was going to fake it, and Canelo beat him to it. He’s like, ‘Uh ah.’
“I thought that was an interesting exchange between the two. It seems like Canelo is fed up.”
Canelo is undefeated since being beaten by Floyd Mayweather in 2013
    READY TO PAY THE BIL
Canelo Alvarez is ‘fed up’ with Billy Joe Saunders ahead of their fight tonight, according to former world champion Chris Algieri.
Pound-for-pound king Canelo and WBO super-middleweight champion Saunders will meet in front of 70,000 fans in Texas for three of the 168-pound belts.
When asked if Saunders is trying to get under Canelo’s skin, Algieri told Fighthype: “Maybe, but I also think that’s just the way Saunders is, and I mean in terms of his personality, not so much his fighting style.
“Maybe that is why he does that, but I just think that’s the way he is. He’s a ball buster, and it’s hilarious. But Canelo is not looking too enthused.
“I think this is the most focused I’ve seen him in a fight week in a long time. He [Saunders] could [get it to work for him], but Canelo at this point is such a seasoned veteran.
“It’s going to be really tough to get him off his game, to get him off his focus to the point where it’ll affect him negatively.”
Saunders will be looking to cause a huge upset in the US
    RICE’N’EASY
West Ham star Declan Rice is backing Billy Joe Saunders to beat Canelo Alvarez this evening.
The England midfielder commented on Billy Joe’s latest Instagram snap ahead of tonight’s fight: “Let’s go bill🔥🔥🙌”
Declan Rice is backing his fellow Brit
    YOU’RE KIDDING
Let’s remind ourselves of just how much tonight’s shot at Canelo means to Billy Joe Saunders.
He told the Telegraph earlier this week: “This means everything to me, everything.
“Absolutely everything. More than money, more than fame, more than anything. I want to win this so bad.
“If it means I say goodbye to my kids, and I never see them again, I can leave this earth happy knowing I have won.
“It means that much to me. As us gypsies say, ‘We’re not here to take part, we’re here to take over.'”
Billy Joe Saunders admits he’d walk away from his entire family if it meant he beat Canelo
    MAY HAPPEN
    SunSport Exclusive by Emma Parry
Floyd Mayweather is in talks to fight Billy Joe Saunders if he beats Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, an insider has claimed.
It comes with the 50-0 undefeated boxing legend considering a shock return to professional boxing.
“Floyd is considering a return to professional boxing and wants to fight Billy Joe Saunders,” the source said.
“After the Logan Paul fight, he really wants to beat his brother Jake. Then he’s hoping to fight Conor McGregor next year.
“But he doesn’t just want to do these kinds of exhibition matches.
“He rates Billy Joe and he’s been in talks to fight him if he beats Canelo. Remember Floyd is the only fighter to ever beat Canelo.
“Floyd always keeps himself in top shape so it’s not going to be hard for him to make the come back.”
Floyd could produce a stunning comeback to face Billy Joe

    THANKS FOR JOINING US
That’s all from us tonight as Liverpool sealed a 2-0 home win over Southampton to keep their top four hopes alive.
Sadio Mane headed the hosts in front in the first half before Thiago Alcantara’s first goal for the club sealed the three points in the 90th minute.
It leaves the Reds six points off the top four with twelve points left to play for and a game in hand on sixth placed Leicester.
Southampton threatened throughout though and will feel unlucky not to come away with a point after Alisson was forced into make some big saves to deny Che Adams.
His six saves this evening are the most he’s made in a Premier League game for Liverpool.
Next up for the Reds is a HUGE clash against Manchester United on Thursday night, while Southampton host Crystal Palace on Tuesday.
    That’s all for now though.
Thanks for joining us, it’s been a pleasure.
    RALPH’S REACTION
Here are the full time thoughts of Saints boss Ralph Hasenuttl:
“I think we had maybe the bigger chances today because we had a few one against one, the biggest for Che Adams at the end where we can’t make the equaliser.
“But if we cannot score, we cannot win and this was the difference today.
“I think we showed some good, great football today and kept the game open until the overtime and then we conceded the second goal.
“But until that moment I had almost the feeling we could score but yeah when you don’t take the chances it’s difficult.”
    JURGEN’S ANALYSIS
Here’s what Jurgen Klopp has to say on whether a win in Liverpool’s last four games would be enough to finish in the top four:
“Yeah if we do that I think it would be enough.
    “But it’s a big if.
“We play on Thursday [against] Manchester United.
“I know they play Tuesday, Sunday, Tuesday but if you look at the squad they have they can make changes, no doubt about that.”
    FIRST ASSIST
In case you missed this stat earlier here’s a reminder.
Sadio Mane’s goal tonight is the FIRST time he and Mo Salah have combined to score in almost eleven months.
1 – Mohamed Salah’s assist for Sadio Mané’s header was the first time the duo have combined for a goal in the Premier League this season, last doing so vs Crystal Palace in June 2020. Friends. #LIVSOU— OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) May 8, 2021

    ANDY’S ANALYSIS
Here are the full time thoughts of Liverpool left back Andy Robertson:
“I thought it was a good performance.
“When you’re in this kind of run of form, we’ve conceded two late goals in the last couple of games and it’s about grinding out results that’s what it’s about.
“But I thought the performance today for the most part was really good.
“Of course we conceded a couple of chances which were avoidable.
“Luckily Alisson made two top saves for us but we created ourselves.
“We kept the ball really well, we controlled the match which is tough against a team like Southampton and I thought we were well deserved of the three points.
“In this kind of crucial part of the season it’s a big three points and we need to use it now.
“We’ve got four big games now we just need to keep pushing the people above us and let’s see where it ends up.”
    FULL TIME STATS
Here’s a look at the full time stats from Anfield.
Both sides managed six shots on target but Alisson was on hand to make six crucial saves to deny the Saints.
It’s the most he has made in any of his 96 Premier League appearances for the Reds.

    SAINTS STANDINGS
Here’s how the Premier League table looks from Southampton’s point of view.
The Saints still aren’t mathematically safe but have a ten point cushion over Fulham with twelve points left to play for.

    THIAGO TALKS
Here are the full time thoughts of Thiago on Liverpool’s top four hopes:
“We are for sure not happy with the situation we are in now but for the mood [and] for the confidence for the next game we are very happy with the win.
“It’s always a great moment to score and also to help the team but as I said we have to keep fighting to the end to have this small chance [Champions League qualification].”
    AS IT STANDS
Here’s what that result means for the top four race.
Liverpool are now six points off the pace with four games left to play.
They also have a game in hand over fourth placed Leicester.

    WINNER

So Liverpool get the job done at Anfield – just.
Sadio Mane’s first half header and Thiago’s 90th minute strike mean the Reds are still in the hunt for the top four.
Southampton meanwhile stay ten points clear of the drop zone and are still not yet mathematically safe.
However with just twelve points left to play for it would take something monumental for them to go down.
    PEEEEEEEEEEP!
    THAT’S FULL TIME!
A MASSIVE THREE POINTS FOR LIVERPOOL!
    LIVERPOOL 2-0 SOUTHAMPTON
    93. That goal is absolutely ENORMOUS in Liverpool’s quest for the top four.
Southampton looked the more likely of the two sides to score the second goal but Thiago’s caressed finish keeps Liverpool in the hunt for the top four.
    LIVERPOOL 2-0 SOUTHAMPTON
    91. A HUGE sigh of relief for Jurgen Klopp.
Thiago picks the ball up on the edge of the Southampton box.
His touch takes the ball past Armstrong before he passes the ball into the bottom corner past the outstretched arm of Fraser Forster.
    Lovely goal!
    GOOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLL!
THIAGO WRAPS UP THE THREE POINTS FOR LIVERPOOL!
    THAT’S A LOVELY FINISH!
    LIVERPOOL 1-0 SOUTHAMPTON
    88. Two minutes left of normal time to play at Anfield.
Andy Robertson plays a hit and hope cross into the box that sails over the head of everyone and goes out for a Southampton throw in.
    LIVERPOOL 1-0 SOUTHAMPTON
    86. Liverpool substitution.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is coming on for the final four minutes.
    He replaces Mo Salah.
    LIVERPOOL 1-0 SOUTHAMPTON
    85. Southampton are seeing all of the ball here.
Liverpool don’t look all too confident at the back and the game has the same feel as the Newcastle game two weeks ago.
A Southampton goal seems almost inevitable.
    LIVERPOOL 1-0 SOUTHAMPTON
    83. Ward-Prowse whips a dangerous first time ball into the box that Nat Phillips does well to head away in front of the waiting Obafemi.
The Saints are continuing to threaten…
    LIVERPOOL 1-0 SOUTHAMPTON
    81. GOAL DISALLOWED!
Sadio Mane has the ball in the back of the net after volleying home but the flag is up for offside.
    He’s absolutely miles offside!
    LIVERPOOL 1-0 SOUTHAMPTON
    80. Liverpool corner.
Roberto Firmino is involved straight away.
He picks the ball up in the Southampton half and drives forward.
He plays it into the path of Salah in the box but he can’t quite get a shot away.
His effort is blocked behind for a corner.
    LIVERPOOL 1-0 SOUTHAMPTON
    79. Substitutions.
Moussa Djenepo is on for Che Adams and Roberto Firmino is on for Diogo Jota.
Ten minutes left to play at Anfield.
    LIVERPOOL 1-0 SOUTHAMPTON
    78. Fabinho floats a ball into the path of Salah on the right.
He cuts the ball across goal into the path of Jota who has time to get a shot away.
His effort is scuffed though, skewing off the outside of his boot and out for a goal kick.

Uefa chiefs are ready to shift the Champions League final to WEMBLEY – but only if the UK Government can give them a set of guarantees.
Uefa are understood to be sympathetic and agree that, in the circumstances of a Covid wave in Turkey, not asking Chelsea and Manchester City fans to travel makes sense.
But Uefa has ruled out grounds including Tottenham, Newcastle, Arsenal and Aston Villa.
The governing body is also not considering Hampden Park or the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
Euro bosses signalled that Wembley – with a capacity of 22,500 until the middle of June – is the only suitable venue.
While there is growing momentum, a series of issues must be overcome.
The first would be for the EFL and FA to agree to shift or reschedule the Championship play-off final, also due to be played on May 29.
That could either be moved or brought forward by 48 hours, allowing both Chelsea and City to train at Wembley on the day before the Champions League final.
But Uefa is also seeking absolute guarantees from the Government that all media, broadcasters, sponsors and VIPs will be allowed to attend without quarantine issues.
In addition, Uefa will ask the clubs who were involved in this season’s competition to give up part of their prize money to meet the estimated £20million-plus costs already incurred by the Turkish authorities ahead of the planned game at the Ataturk in Istanbul.

    NO MOUR

Spurs have told Jose Mourinho to forget about trying to sign Eric Dier and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg for Roma this summer.
Reports in Italy claim Mourinho has told his new Roma bosses at the Stadio Olimpico to go to his old club to sign England defender Dier and Danish midfield anchorman Hojbjerg.
But a club insider said: “There is no way we would sell either of these players.
“Of course, the new manager would have the final say.
“But you cannot see who whoever comes in wanting to let them go either.
“Both are incredibly important members of the team and you cannot see that changing.”
SunSport also understands that neither player would want to link up with Mourinho in the Italian capital.
    CAV SOME OF THAT
    Exclusive by Phil Thomas
Man United will offer Edinson Cavani a £2.5million rise to try and tempt him into staying for another year.
Cavani, 34, earns £200,000 a week but has yet to reveal if will leave this summer and return to South America.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has held a couple of conversations with the Uruguay striker, yet the feeling was he would be off.
But the Red Devils have not given up and plan to offer him an extra £50,000 a week for another year’s service.
The club do have an option of a further 12 months on the one-season deal he signed last summer, but it can only be triggered if Cavani also gives his approval.

And the Gunners boss believes owner Stan Kroenke WILL provide a significant war chest this summer to try to stop the rot.
Mid-table Arsenal are way off the pace again and Arteta said: “Time is catching up right now.
“It’s a trend, it’s years now that this has been happening.
“If the distance and the margins with the rest becomes too big, then it’s almost impossible to do it.
“I think we are still on time and we have put some very strong pillars and foundations in the last few months to do what we have to do.
“We are in the right place to do it — and we have to do it.

    SUMMER OF DISCONTENT
    Exclusive by Richard Moriarty
Man United bosses fear militant fans could be planning a summer of discontent which will see them plotting to disrupt the club for months.
Officials have already stepped up security at the club’s Carrington training ground in the wake of around 100 fans breaking into Old Trafford and storming the pitch ahead of the clash against Liverpool.
A source said: “United’s success is often attributed to the fact they have fans all over the world who come out in droves to support them.
“But what if some of those decide instead of going along to a friendly in America or the Far East, they are going to launch a similar protest.
“It’s very hard to predict and it’s difficult to stop — and it is causing them a huge headache.
“The green and gold protests against the Glazer ownership have been going on a long time.
“The ESL plans have breathed new life into them and show no signs of slowing down.”

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has apologised for his botched panenka against Chelsea this afternoon.
The Argentine spurned the opportunity to put Pep Guardiola’s side 2-0 up, in a game that could have sealed the Premier League title.
But the Blues’ subsequent comeback means that City will have to wait.
Aguero, who is leaving the Etihad this summer, wrote on Twitter: “I would like to apologise to my teammates, staff and supporters for missing the penalty. It was a bad decision and I take full responsibility.”

Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has apologised to the fans for his side’s Europa League exit on Thursday night.
The striker wrote in his programme notes for tomorrow’s clash with West Brom: “We struggled to find our rhythm in the first half and didn’t give Villarreal enough problems.
“And when we had a chance, the luck wasn’t there for us, when I hit the post with the volley and then the header in the second half.

The champagne will have to remain on ice, after Manchester City failed to beat Chelsea this afternoon at Etihad Stadium.
More than a mere dressed-rehearsal for the Champions League final later this month, City could have sealed the Premier League title with victory over the Blues.
And things looked rosy for them, when Sergio Aguero stepped up to the penalty spot with his side already leading 1-0 thanks to Raheem Sterling’s strike.
But the Argentine botched his attempted panenka… and Chelsea made him pay.
Thomas Tuchel’s side came out fighting in the second half, with Hakim Ziyech firing his team level just after the hour mark.
And Marcos Alonso sealed a dramatic victory in stoppage time, to keep City waiting – while boosting the Blues’ grip on a place in the top four.

Long-term Manchester United and Chelsea target Jadon Sancho has refused to comment on his future at Borussia Dortmund.
Speaking after scoring twice in his side’s 3-2 win over RB Leipzig, the England winger told ESPN: “I don’t know about my future.

Chelsea are also interested in the shot-stopper who is considered one of the biggest talents in European football.
Donnarumma has been at Milan since the age of 14 and has already made 247 appearances for the club.
But while he considers switching alliegences and signing for Juve in the summer, Donnarumma has been left in a terrifying dilemma.

    BAMBA’S BACK
Sol Bamba came off the bench for Cardiff this afternoon just four months after being diagnosed with cancer.
The centre-back has been undergoing chemotherapy but was summoned off the bench by manager Mick McCarthy in the 95th minute of the Bluebirds’ 1-1 draw with Rotherham.
Cardiff announced Bamba, 36, had Non-Hodgkin lymphoma in January in a touching statement to fans.
Non-Hodgkin lymphoma is a cancer that affects the lymphatic system in the body which is a system of vessels and glands.
The Ivory Coast international started treatment as soon as his condition was confirmed.
And, after making positive steps forward, was allowed to return to training at the beginning of April.
Having continued to progress Bamba made the bench for the final day of the Championship season as his side relegated the visiting Millers.

    CHRIS & MAKE UP
Christian Eriksen has revealed he is desperate to STAY at Inter Milan just six months after begging the club to sell him.
Spurs, Manchester United, Wolves and Leicester were all rumoured to be in for the Danish star earlier this season.
But now after finding his feet under the Italian and helping the club win their first Serie A crown in 11 years, Eriksen is desperate to help ‘build something beautiful’ at the San Siro.
On his rocky start to life at Inter, Eriksen told Gazzetta dello Sport: “I was willing to learn new things when I arrived. I hadn’t understood I had to follow’s Conte system all the time.
“Before, I was free to make decisions based on what I saw. It had a lot to do with intuition. Now, there is a general plan we have to follow… we must be ready, know where our team-mates are and where they can move. I had to learn all this and adapt to a different pace.
“We spoke in January, and I’ve proved what I am able to do. I have no revenge to take, I just play football. Sometimes it goes well, sometimes it doesn’t. This is a sport that evolves quickly, almost every week. Six months ago I was living in a different situation, now we have a trophy and I can say I am really happy here at Inter.
“It was hard to win this title, but we did it with four games remaining. It’s a good starting point, now we can begin a new cycle… it will be hard to win nine titles in a row, but we’ll try to build something beautiful. Conte is so important for each one of us, also for the way we play. We follow him and you see that on the pitch.
“Everyone is so happy to have won with him.. but his stay is not up to me – it depends on the club and him.”
Christian Eriksen looks set to stay at Inter Milan having been desperate to quit six months ago
    DWIGHT FIGHT
Aston Villa are ready to launch a £15million bid for Burnley ace Dwight McNeil, according to reports.
The talented winger has been admired by Manchester United and Arsenal in the past.
But Dean Smith wants to take him to the West Midlands.
According to Football Insider, McNeil is one of Villa’s ‘top targets’ for the summer.
And they think that £15m could be enough to convince Burnley to sell.
The Clarets, however, agreed a contract extension with McNeil last October, currently tying him to Sean Dyche’s side until June 2024.
And Burnley are believed to have an option to trigger an extra year.

    GUARD OF HONOUR
Pep Guardiola would not want Manchester City to sign Lionel Messi because he has ‘never wanted to hurt Barcelona’.
The Argentine superstar’s contract comes to an end at the Nou Camp in the summer and he has been heavily linked with a move to both Man City and Paris Saint-Germain.
But Valenti Guardiola, dad of the Man City boss, does not believe his son would want Messi to leave the Catalan giants.
Speaking to journalist Emiliano Nunia, he said: “There’s no club in the world that wouldn’t want to have Messi.
“I saw him play at 12 or 13 years old and I was amazed.
“He was extraordinary at that level. There are very few players like Messi, and I’m sure that Pep wouldn’t dislike having him at City.
“Pep has always seen Messi as the best, but he’s at Barcelona. Josep has never wanted to hurt the club by taking the player.”
    EXCLAMATION MARK
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may think Manchester United’s fixture schedule is ‘impossible’.
But the demands of the Red Devils playing four games in eight days is not a patch on Mark Hughes’ heroic efforts of playing two games on the same day!
Remarkably, Hughes played in two different countries on November 11, 1987.
The Welshman completed 90 minutes for his nation in a crucial Euro qualifier against Czechoslovakia in Prague and then came off the bench in Bayern Munich’s German Cup second-round replay 3-2 extra-time win over Borussia Monchengladbach that night.

    NO CHANGE
Josh Buatsi fears if Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has been forced off of social media by racist abuse then most other black sportspeople don’t stand a chance.
The Ghana-born South Londoner boldly took the knee before his thrilling October win over Marko Calic to fight against racial injustice.
But after spending eight weeks in San Francisco training with new trainer Virgil Hunter, he has returned to an almost identical landscape and learned Gunners icon Henry quit social media all together.
Ahead of Saturday’s Manchester match-up with undefeated Daniel Dos Santos, the 13-0 Rio 2016 bronze winner said: “I don’t think things have really improved but, when we talk about the sport of boxing, I personally have never experienced any racism in professional boxing.
“Internationally, in the amateurs, yes a few times in different countries but in [pro] boxing I have not.
“In the world now, are things changing? No, I think things are still the same.
“I can understand why certain Premier League footballers are saying ‘forget getting the knee, no changes are being made whatsoever’. I can see that.

And he also admitted: “Buying is difficult in the current situation. Now there is a bit of back and forth.”

    ART OF WAR
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta urged his players to ‘show fans on the pitch’ why his is a project to get behind.
In the aftermath of Thursday night’s clash with Villarreal, he said: “We have to show them on the pitch, not talking.
“We are hugely disappointed because we wanted to deliver something special to them after the difficult season that we had.”

    TAKING THE MIK?
England legend John Barnes has called on Arsenal to stick with rookie manager Mikel Arteta.
He said: “Arsenal must learn from Klopp’s first two years at Liverpool and stick with Arteta.
“Arsenal will look at what Arteta is doing and realise that he is building for the future with the young players like Saka and Smith Rowe.
“They’re looking to promote and play young players so Arsenal can’t demand instant success as they’re not spending hundreds of millions of pounds on players so, therefore, they have to put up with what they’re doing now if they believe in the long-term future of the club.”

    BACK TO THE FUTURE
Not a bad impersonation of an Arsenal great, from current star Emile Smith Rowe.
The youngster has Charlie George’s celebration down to a tee.

    ARSENAL STATS
Let’s take a look at Arsenal’s Premier League campaign so far.
Alexandre Lacazette has scored the most league goals, 13 so far.
Granit Xhaka has been heavily involved their Premier League campaign, making the most passes, tackles and fouls.
    Here’s the data…

    DIXON REMEMBERS 2002
Arsenal legend Lee Dixon has celebrated the 19th anniversary of their title triumph at Old Trafford.
On May 8, 2002, the Gunners defeated Manchester United 1-0 to win the Premier League.
They have won just one league title since.

    WILSHERE DISAGREES WITH KEOWN
Jack Wilshere has disagreed with Martin Keown over Thomas Party.
The ex-defender criticised the midfielder after Thursday night’s Europa League defeat to Villarreal, telling BT Sport: “We thought we were signing the next Patrick Vieira, and he hasn’t looked like that at all.”
Responding to Keown’s comments, Wilshere said: “Thomas Partey is a top, top player.
“I played against him in the semi-final of the Europa League and he was one of the toughest I played against.
“The recruitment is not down to Arteta. He’s the coach, he’s the manager and he picks the team.
“It is down to him to get the best out of them, but I wouldn’t say the recruitment is down to him anymore.”
    ESR TRIBUTE TO CHARLIE
Emile Smith Rowe paid tribute to Arsenal legend Charlie George by emulating his 1971 FA Cup final goal in training.
It’s 50 years to the day since the Gunners defeated Liverpool 2-1 to win their first league and cup double.
If Smith Rowe has half the career George had, he’ll be some player.

    MAGIC TUCH
Manchester United transfer target Ousmane Dembele has revealed that Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is the best manager he has played under.
The 23-year-old Frenchman was coached by Tuchel during his time as a teenager at Borussia Dortmund.
And it is another player during his time at Dortmund – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – that he describes as his best teammate.
Speaking to BeIN Sports, he said: “Things went super at Dortmund, a super squad, Aubameyang who welcomed me amazingly, even if it was quite tough with the German.
“Aubameyang really welcomed me well, he is the person that I have liked the most in football.
“And like I said Thomas Tuchel really convinced me, he is my favourite manager.”
    MERSE SLAMS GUNNERS
Arsenal legend Paul Merson has slammed Mikel Arteta’s side following their Europa League semi-final defeat to Villarreal.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Merson said: “It’s the worst [Arsenal performance] I’ve ever seen.
“That was the semi-final of a European game and there was absolutely no urgency.
“If you’d have come in and turned it on with 10 minutes to go, you’d have thought Arsenal were through.
“It was mind-blowing at the highest level.”
🗣”It is the worst I have ever seen.” Paul Merson’s honest review of Arsenal being knocked out of the Europa League semi-final and labelled it as ’embarrassing’ and ‘a joke’ pic.twitter.com/NGHIkyIb0E— Football Daily (@footballdaily) May 8, 2021

    GUNNER SORT
Arsenal chief Richard Garlick will work on resolving the futures of Emile Smith Rowe and Alexandre Lacazette when he joins the club.
Garlick will take over as director of football operations on May 17 having been working for the Premier League in the same role.
And according to ESPN, two of his first jobs will be to sort out contract issues.
The first will be getting Smith Rowe to put pen to paper on a fresh deal.
His current one runs until 2023 but after a breakthrough season this term, the 20-year-old is due to earn a pay rise.
For Lacazette, Garlick must decide whether or not to offer a new deal.
The Frenchman, 29, is out of contract at the end of the 2021-22 season.

    ICYMI – BERGE KING
Arsenal are reportedly in the fight for Sheffield United star Sander Berge.
The midfielder is said to be available for £35million in the summer via a relegation release clause.
And Sky Sports have outlined a number of clubs interested in his signature, including Everton.

    BARC-ING MAD
Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus have vowed to go to war with Uefa over threats to throw them out of European competition for sticking to the Super League plans.
The three clubs have been warned by the governing body they face a two-year ban from their competitions unless they finally give up their intention to play in the rebel tournament.
But in a joint statement released this morning, the football superpowers doubled down on their refusal to give up on the project and made it clear they think the law is on their side.
Real, Barca and Juve are all now prepared to fight it through the courts to challenge any Uefa ban as they desperately try to cling on to the ESL dream which will save them from the financial turmoil they have left themselves in.
Click here to read the statement.

    ART & SOUL
Mikel Arteta says he is giving his whole LIFE to the Arsenal job.
And he vowed to fight on as manager after the Europa League heartache to Villarreal.
Speaking after the defeat, Arteta said: “Since I arrived here what I have tried to do, giving my life, my best ability, investing every drop of energy that I have emotionally to support everything that has been going around with my knowledge, with staff, with all the players that are trying to contribute with all the club to give our best.
“But so far it has not been enough and when the question mark comes, why it is not enough? Is it just a thing? Is it the manager? Is it any other stuff? What is it?
“And then this is football. Again, I repeat myself, last night that ball goes in we win 1-0. You are in the final and it is a different world. But today that world doesn’t look very nice.”
    MAY 8 IS ARSENAL’S DAY
The Gunners just love playing on May 8.
As well as securing their first ever double 50 years ago today, it’s 19 years since Arsene Wenger’s side won the Premier League title at Old Trafford.
A goal from Frenchman Sylvain Wiltord secured a 1-0 victory.
Arsenal fans can only dream of such success today…
    ARTETA FOCUSED ON PL FINISH
Mikel Arteta wants his team to finish the Premier League season strongly following Thursday night’s Europa League defeat to Villarreal.
The Gunners boss, speaking to the club’s official website, said: “We have no time [to think too deeply about Thursday’s disappointment] because we have a game on Sunday.
“We have a training session this morning [Friday] and it has to be by today when you leave the training ground, most of it has to be out of the system.
“I think you have to leave some of it in some of your system, and use some of it in the right way as an energy driver in the game on Sunday.”
    HOW HIGH CAN ARSENAL FINISH?
Following their Europa League exit, Arsenal’s priority is to qualify for European football next season.
They are currently ninth in the Premier League on 49 points, with four games remaining.
Should they win their remaining games – and, somehow, their rivals lose theirs – the Gunners will finish in fourth.
They are currently 12 points behind Chelsea, the team occupying that position.
As that is extremely unlikely to happen, Arsenal should be aiming to finish seventh or higher.
They are currently five points behind Liverpool in seventh and seven points behind Tottenham in sixth.
If they finish seventh, they will qualify for the Europa Conference League – Uefa’s new tertiary competition.
Fifth and sixth are the Europa League spots.
Failing that, they could always try and revive the European Super League…

Today is the 50th anniversary of Arsenal’s FA Cup triumph against Liverpool.
Goals from Eddie Kelly and Charlie George secured a 2-1 victory in extra-time.
The win was the second half of Arsenal’s first league and cup double – a decade after Tottenham had achieved the honour.
The greatest day in Arsenal’s history?

    ART DEALER
Arsenal are sticking with Mikel Arteta and will back him with funds for a summer spending spree.
The 39-year-old Spaniard is now the bookies’ favourite to become the next Premier League boss to be sacked.
But the Gunners are determined to keep faith with Arteta despite the very real threat of missing out on European qualification for the first time since 1995.
Owner Stan Kroenke and technical director Edu remain convinced Arteta is the right man to lead the club back to the big time.
But if the team is still mid-table by the end of the year then Arteta will be replaced.

    ICYMI – LEW BEAUTY
Lewis Hamilton was overjoyed after clinching his 100th pole position this afternoon.
He said: “P3 was looking really good, we have been strong all weekend. I made some changes, I had a bit of anxiety about the changes we were going make. You always try to make them better but it’s a bit of a gamble. It was my call in the end.
“We made this change and as soon as I got out it was immediately: ‘This is the wrong way.’ That’s why I was behind the whole way through qualifying.
“I was making changes all the way through to try to elevate the pace.
“I can’t believe we are at 100. It’s down to the men and women back at the factory who are just continuing to raise the bar and never giving up. It has been a dream to work these guys. Who would have thought when I made the move at the end of 2012 that we would get to 100? I am ecstatic, like it’s my first.
“The set-up that I made I just had so much understeer. The car was very lazy and wouldn’t turn around the corners in the way I wanted.
“I was making small adjustments within what we are able to change to get the car to turn and then it is just pulling everything together. It was my cleanest lap. I will always remember that.”
100 POLES! I can’t even begin to describe how this feels. I can’t thank the team and everyone back at the factory enough for everything they’ve done to help us secure this incredible milestone. I feel so humbled and very grateful. This feels like my first win all over again 🙌🏾💯 pic.twitter.com/KkCgShdhq2— Lewis Hamilton (@LewisHamilton) May 8, 2021

The Red Bull star said: “Both laps were pretty decent, the second run was a little worse for whatever reason but second for us here on this track is very good today.
“We know they are hard to beat around here but to be that close I can be very happy with that.”

    HAMIL-TON
    Report by SunSport’s Ben Hunt
Lewis Hamilton clinched a 100th career pole position as he beat world championship rival Max Verstappen in Saturday’s qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix.
It was the Red Bull driver who looked to be primed to top the leaderboard in the final round of qualification after showing good pace early on.
But despite Hamilton failing to improve on his first run in the dying moments of qualifying, Verstappen could not find the pace to clinch pole as he had to settle for second, three hundredths of a second off his British rival.

    WHAT AN ACHIEVEMENT!
It’s a pole with a difference for Lewis Hamilton this weekend.
What an amazing achievement by the Brit.

    QUALIFYING RE-CAP
Lewis Hamilton clinched a 100th career pole position as he beat world championship rival Max Verstappen in Saturday’s qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix.
It was the Red Bull driver who looked to be primed to top the leaderboard in the final round of qualification after showing good pace early on.
But despite Hamilton failing to improve on his first run in the dying moments of qualifying, Verstappen could not find the pace to clinch pole as he had to settle for second, three hundredths of a second off his British rival.
Valtteri Bottas secured third place in the other Mercedes, while Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc impressed again in fourth.
Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez was down in eighth behind Esteban Ocon, Carlos Sainz and Daniel Ricciardo.
Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel missed out on the final round of qualification once more as he could only manage 13th.

HAMILTON TAKES POLE POSITION FOR THE SPANISH GP.His 100th in F1. Astonishing.
VERSTAPPEN IS DOWN ON HIS LAP TIME
A Hamilton makes a mistake but it is enough for pole.
    HAMILTON GOES FIRST
And he is quicker. His sector times are better than his pervious best.
    TWO MINUTES TO GO
Busy track for the final runs of Q3. Could be traffic issues here.
    FIVE MINUTES TO GO
And it is Hamilton then Verstappen but just 0.036 seconds in it!
The Bottas, Ocon, Sainz, Ricciardo, Leclerc, Norris, Alonso and then Perez, who has yet to set a time.
    BLOW FOR PEREZ AND HAMILTON
The Mexican spun and caused Hamilton to lift on his flying lap.
But Hamilton still takes provisional pole. He has more in the tank though.

GREEN LIGHT – WE ARE GO FOR QUALIFYING FOR THE SPANISH GP
Verstappen going for his first pole in Spain.
Hamilton going for his sixth in Spain, and his 100th in F1.
    HAMILTON VERSES VERSTAPPEN FOR POLE

    ASTON MARTINS ELIMINATED
Both Stroll and Vettel are OUT of Q2. Russell, Giovinazzi and Gasly are also eliminated from qualifying.
No real shocks here, despite it being Gasly’s first failure to reach the top 10. Alpine are looking resurgent.
IN THE ELIMINATION ZONE – FOUR MINUTES TO GO
Russell, Giovinazzi, Vettel, Perez and Ocon are in the bottom five.
STONKING FIRST RUN IN Q2 FROM VERSTAPPEN, WHO IS TOP
He is half a second up on second-placed Bottas. That will have Mercedes worried. They could have shown their hand here.
What can Mercedes do in response? That Red Bull looks dialled in.
GREEN LIGHT Q2 IS GO – BOTTAS IS FIRST OUT
Aside from Russell and Giovinazzi, who else will fail to make the top 10 shoot out. Both Aston Martins looking vulnerable.
    ELIMINATED FROM Q1
Mazepin, Latifi, Schumacher, Raikkonen and Tsunoda are all booted out at the first hurdle.
    NORRIS LEAVES IT LATE
The McLaren man was held up during qualifying but he is in to Q2 after topping the session.
    IN THE DROPZONE
Mazepin, Latifi, Schumacher, Stroll and Raikkonen are all in the drop zone with around three minutes to go.

MANCHESTER CITY were denied the Premier League title as Chelsea fought back from behind at the Etihad.Raheem Sterling fired the hosts ahead before Sergio Aguero wasted a golden chance to make two from the spot, firing a weak Panenka effort at Edouard Mendy.
And that left the door open for the Blues, who made them pay in the second half through Hakim Ziyech and Marcos Alonso.

    HOME COMFORTS….
Remarkable stat showing how formidable they were at home.
    A couple of minor blips?
90 – Manchester City have lost consecutive Premier League home games thanks to a goal scored in the 90th minute – as many as they had in their previous 235 Premier League games at the Etihad Stadium. Stunned. #MCICHE— OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) May 8, 2021

    PEP REACTS
Man City boss Pep Guardiola says his side should have had a penalty for the late challenge on Raheem Sterling.
He also said ‘it’s his decision’ when asked his thoughts on Sergio Aguero’s Panenka.
It was a tight game but in general we played good.We miss our chance with the penalty when we were playing better. We reacted well when they scored and had the play and then at the end they scored. It was his decision (Aguero with Panenka). I always say to him to stick with the decision and be fully convinced. He decided to do it this way. Nothing to add. When they scored we didn’t play a ball in behind and didn’t defend the ball.We were good at the end before they scored. It was a penalty. It is a penalty, that is all. This happens in football. We will learn from that for the Champions League final in 21 days.Pep Guardiola
    TUCHEL REACTS
He also singled out Timo Werner for praise, saying he ‘worked like a dog’.
He is hopeful that Christensen’s injury isn’t too bad but is unsure.
Werner was working like a dog, he was really working hard. He gave them a hard time with his runs. This gives us confidence for the Champions League final but won’t change it. We will have changes and so will they and you cannot predict it.But we know we can beat them.I hope Christensen’s injury isn’t too bad but I’m not sure.Thomas Tuchel
    TUCHEL REACTS
Thomas Tuchel was delighted with the second-half showing from Chelsea.
What a performance in the second-half. It was more or less equal in the first-half and in the last five minutes we almost gave it away completely. If they score the penalty it could be over before it really starts.I was absolutely impressed by the reaction and performance and I think we deserved to win based on the second-half.Of course if you want three points you need a bit of luck and refereeing decisions, but we were much better and congratulations to the team in the second-half.We had more control and got more confidence and the first goal helped us.Suddenly, we played more physical and recovered the ball higher.I was delighted with it.Thomas Tuchel
    AGUER-NOOOOOO
    Here is that Panenka again.
It goes worse the more you watch it.

    ‘MEANT TO HELP?’
Man City skipper for the day Raheem Sterling was bewildered as to why he wasn’t awarded a penalty late on.
The winger was clear inside the box and went down under the challenge of Kurt Zouma who was caught wrong side.
Anthony Taylor waved play on and VAR agreed.
But Sterling said between them, they got the decision wrong.
It’s a difficult one to take. We had chances to finish the game off and we didn’t and got punished. Simple as that. For me, I couldn’t get a shot away as his knee went into my hamstring.I don’t know how it’s not a penalty, I don’t know how it’s not been reviewed properly. The ref said it had been reviewed. Personally, I knew it was a penalty.I thought VAR was meant to be here to help? But it wasn’t meant to be.Raheem SterlingSky
