    TOP GUNNER
Bukayo Saka was Arsenal’s ‘best player by a mile’ in Sunday’s win over West Brom, according to Joe Cole.
The versatile England ace, 20, was moved to left-back for the visit of the Baggies on Sunday evening having spent much of the season in a more attacking role.
And Saka put in another supreme performance, including an assist for the first goal, as Arsenal eventually edged past West Brom 3-1.
The winger will now be hoping to end the season strongly as he aims to cement his spot in Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad for this summer’s delayed European Championship.
Saka’s strong showing at the Emirates won’t have hurt his chances either, with ex-England midfielder Cole raving about him. After the game, Cole told BT Sport: “[Saka] was excellent.
“He was a thorn in [West Brom’s] side. His movement was fantastic. He’s so direct, he drives into areas and picks passes out all the time. He was Arsenal’s best player by a mile.”

    STAT ATTACK
Arsenal’s seven shots on target tonight is the second-most they’ve managed in a Premier League match this season.
The most? The 12 they registered in the 4-0 win at West Brom in January.
They’re going to miss playing them.

    FT: ARSENAL 3-1 WEST BROM
West Brom are beaten in London, and their immediate return to the Championship is confirmed.
Albion gave it a go in the second half, and Matheus Pereira halved the half-time deficit with a superb solo goal, but Willian’s free-kick in the final minute – his first Arsenal goal – condemned the Baggies to the drop.

Defeat in the capital confirms our relegation from the Premier League.#ARSWBA | @eToro— West Bromwich Albion (@WBA) May 9, 2021

    ARSENAL 3-1 WBA
    90. He’s done it! Willian has his first goal in an Arsenal shirt!
The Brazilian won the free-kick with that burst of pace and piece of trickery, and made it clear that he wanted to take it too. For once, he didn’t disappoint.
Central and 25 yards from goal, the forward curled a beauty over the wall and into the top left corner beyond Sam Johnstone.
    ARSENAL 2-1 WBA
    67. Against the run of play, Mattheus Pereira pulls one back for West Brom in sensational style.
The Albion forward picks the ball up inside his own half, and runs and runs and runs and runs without challenge.
When an Arsenal player finally approaches the forward, he unleashes a peach of a low, left-footed drive into the bottom corner past the outstretched arm of Bernd Leno.
Maybe West Brom are still alive in the Premier League.
    SOU-PER MAN
Yves Bissouma has reportedly requested to leave Brighton at the end of the season – amid intense interest from Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City.
Bissouma joined the Seagulls from Lille in 2018 for a fee that could rise to £15.7million with add-ons. The 24-year-old has shone bright this season proving he is one of the Premier League’s most talented box-to-box midfielders.
The Mali international’s impressive performances at the Amex Stadium have caught the eye of Arsenal, Liverpool and City. According to the Sunday Times, Bissouma has asked to be allowed to leave Brighton, who rate him at £40m.
That development paves the way for an intense bidding war between three of the Premier League’s biggest clubs.
Liverpool are reportedly most interested in the midfielder as manager Jurgen Klopp has been ‘personally researching’ his character as well as off-field behaviour to make sure he is the right fit for the Reds.
In fact, Klopp sees him as a potential successor to Georginio Wijnaldum, who looks set to exit Anfield on a free transfer once his contract expires in June.

    HT: ARSENAL 2-0 WEST BROM
Arsenal lead by two at the break courtesy of Emile Smith Rowe’s first Premier League goal and a thunderbolt from Nicolas Pepe.
The Gunners have grown to impress, but the match perhaps sums up West Brom’s season.
Albion started well, spurned some chances, and then fell apart. In 45 minutes, they will be relegated unless they can find a way back into this one.
    Two goals to the good 👊#ARSWBA 🔴⚪️ 2-0 🟡🟢 (HT)— Arsenal (@Arsenal) May 9, 2021

    ARSENAL 2-0 WBA
    35. Brilliant from Nicolas Pepe!
The Ivorian takes Callum Chambers’ pass in his path on the left, and when nobody comes to challenge him, he skips inside on to his left foot and powers a shot into the far corner from just inside the box.
Superb stuff from Arsenal’s record signing, but again it’s dubious defending from Albion.
    ARSENAL 1-0 WBA
    29. A first Premier League goal for Emile Smith Rowe!
Arsenal had just begun to turn the screw, and have their youngsters to thank for breaking the deadlock.
Bukaya Sako again gets beyond a this-time static Albion defence, and pulls a lovely low cross back for Smith Rowe to meet at the near post with a left-footed volley.

    ARSENAL IN DA HOUSE
The Gunners have arrived at the Emirates ahead of tonight’s game against West Brom.
Kick-off at 7pm in North London.

    DOWN THE STAN
Stan Kroenke’s offer to pay their Uefa fine from his own pocket could leave Arsenal with LESS money to spend this summer.
Kroenke, along with his fellow American owners at Liverpool and Manchester United, promised to meet the initial £1.44million European Super League fine – plus five per cent of the club’s next season of European cash earnings – from his personal funds.
But finance specialists warned such payments would be deemed as “owner funding” in Financial Fair Play calculations.
One expert explained: “If Kroenke pays from his own funds, that is deemed an owner expense.
“It means Arsenal’s next income will be reduced and will have an impact on the amount they are allowed to spend on players.
“While the Arsenal fans may be welcoming his decision now, they might not be so impressed if they discover they will have less to spend on players as a direct result.”

    CHEERS TO THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
Arsenal Women secured Champions League football for next season with a 0-0 draw against WSL strugglers Aston Villa this afternoon.
The North Londoners ended up third in the WSL behind second placed Man City and champions Chelsea who retained the title.

    SAKA’S BEAUTY
The last time Arsenal faced West Brom they hammered them 4-0 at the Hawthorns.
The match is fondly remembered for this beautiful move from the Gunners, finished off by Bukayo Saka.

    ERGING FOR ACTION
Arsenal will have to cough up £35million for Sheffield United ace Sander Berge as manager Mikel Arteta calls on the board to splash the cash this summer.
The Gunners have endured yet another torrid season that could see them missing out on European qualification for the first time in 25 years following Thursday’s Europa League elimination to Unai Emery’s Villarreal.
Arteta is looking to bolster his midfield ahead of next season and Berge appears to be among his top summer targets, even though the Norway international endured a rough campaign marred by injury.
According to Yorkshire Live, Berge is rated at a cut-price £35m due to a relegation clause in his contract with the Blades who will playing in the Championship next season, dropping his original asking price of £45m.
This comes after the north Londoners’ manager urged the club’s hierarchy to spend big in the summer in order to put an end to the ongoing downward spiral.

    TOFFEE TWOSOME
Everton are lining up moves for Juventus keeper Wojciech Szczesny and Fulham midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, according to reports.
Toffees boss Carlo Ancelotti is almost certainly set to try and bolster his squad in the summer.
And according to Calcio Mercato, Juventus are hoping to offload 31-year-old Szczesny.
Everton are one of the clubs that have been linked with the Pole, who spent six years at Arsenal between 2009 and 2015.
Chelsea are also said to be a possible suitor for the ex-Gunners shot-stopper despite already having both Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga on their books.
Another player who Everton are looking at according to The Mirror is Fulham midfielder Anguissa.
The Cameroon international has been ever-present for Scott Parker’s side this season, playing in 30 of their 34 Premier League games.
    ARSENAL TEAM NEWS
The team news for Arsenal’s final WSL match against Aston Villa is in.
    Kick-off is at 2:30pm.

    BISSOUMA HANDS IN REQUEST
Brighton’s Yves Bissouma has handed in a transfer request, according to the Sunday Times.
The midfielder, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool, has been in excellent form this season – making 32 Premier League appearances.
The 24-year-old is believed to be keen on playing Champions League football, which may hamper Arsenal’s chances.
He is expected to cost around £30million.

    PAUL ONUACHU LATEST
Genk’s goal machine Paul Onuachu reportedly hopes to end up an Arsenal player by the end of the summer.
The 6ft 7in forward has been a revelation at the Belgian club, smashing home an incredible 32 goals in 37 games in all competitions this season.
Voetbal Belgie reports the 26-year-old is eyeing up a move to the Emirates and is optimistic he could land a dream Prem move by the end of the upcoming transfer window.
The Nigerian forward is contracted until 2024 and is believed to have a market value of around £15million.
Genk are hoping to cash in around £25m for his services after his sensational goalscoring form.
    JILL ROORD LATEST
Jill Roord is being heavily linked with a summer move to Wolfsburg from Arsenal.
The German outfit are thought to be keen on adding the Netherlands midfielder to their ranks and have refused to rule out a move for her, according to Sports Buzzer.
When asked about Roord the club’s sporting director Ralf Kellermann remained tight-lipped.
He said: “We will not comment on transfer rumors in the week before the important game against Bayern.”
Wolfsburg are looking to strengthen their squad after being knocked out of the Women’s Champions League by Chelsea in the contest’s quarter-finals.
The two clubs have done business previously with the Gunners selling Dominique Janssen to Wolfsburg in 2019.
    ACHRAF HAKIMI LATEST
Bayern Munich are reportedly ready to join the race for Achraf Hakimi amid interest from Arsenal.
The right-back, 22, has been a key part of Inter Milan’s Serie A title triumph but could still leave the club.
Arsenal and Chelsea had both been credited with interest in recent months.
In particular, the Gunners may be seeking a replacement for Hector Bellerin amid reports linking him with Paris Saint-Germain.
But Bundesliga giants Bayern are also on the lookout ahead of Julian Nagelsmann’s arrival.
According to German football reporter Manuel Bonke, the Bavarians are targeting Hakimi although the transfer fee could be a big stumbling block.
The defender is seen as someone who would fit the incoming coach’s system perfectly, with current starter Benjamin Pavard a more defensive right-back.
    KT IS BACK
Kieran Tierney is likely to start for the Gunners against West Brom today.
The last time he played against the Baggies was when Arsenal hammered them 4-0 at the Hawthorns in January.
That match is remembered for this superb strike from Tierney – and Mikel Arteta, desperate to finish the season strongly, will be hoping for another masterclass today.

    ICYMI – DWIGHT FIGHT
Aston Villa are ready to launch a £15million bid for Burnley ace Dwight McNeil, according to reports.
The talented winger has been admired by Manchester United and Arsenal in the past.
But Dean Smith wants to take him to the West Midlands.
According to Football Insider, McNeil is one of Villa’s ‘top targets’ for the summer.
And they think that £15m could be enough to convince Burnley to sell.
The Clarets, however, agreed a contract extension with McNeil last October, currently tying him to Sean Dyche’s side until June 2024.
And Burnley are believed to have an option to trigger an extra year.

    THAT’S ALL FROM MADRID!
Real Madrid missed their chance to catch up with Atletico Madrid at the top of the table after drawing 2-2 with Sevilla.
Real thought they opened the scoring in the opening minutes of first half with Karim Benzema’s header but Alvaro Odriozola, who provided the cross, was caught offside by VAR.
Sevilla drew first blood after 22 minutes when a cross from Jesus Navas from the right flank found Ivan Rakitic, who headed the ball down to Fernando and the midfielder beat Thibaut Courtois with a fine shot.
Real equalised in the second half with Marco Asensio just a few seconds after his introduction to the game on 67 minutes.
Los Blancos thought they were awarded a penalty when Yassine Bounou brought Benzema down inside the box but VAR showed that Eder Militao handed the ball in his own box during the build-up.
Rakitic stepped up and beat Courtois with ease from the penalty spot after 78 minutes.
It seemed like Sevilla were on their way to a famous victory but Toni Kroos’ long-range shot got a deflection off Diego Carlos and beat Bounou to make it all even in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
That’s all from us here in Madrid, have a great night!
    GETTY IMAGES
    MODRIC REACTS
Real Madrid star Luka Modric described Eder Militao’s handball as “fortuitous” and insists his team will keep on fighting for the title.
Modric said: “We have let two points go. We played better, but it couldn’t be.
“Militao’s penalty was a fortuitous move, bad luck, if he has seen it he will have whistled it, I cannot say more.
“It was difficult for us to get into the game, but the second half we did everything to win. A shame but we are still there, alive, we are going to fight until the end.
“I’m fine, I think the team really wants to play what remains and try to win all three and see what happens in the other games. It’s weird, we wanted to depend on ourselves, now we don’t.
“But you have to think about ours first. We have seen that everyone loses points, you have to have faith. We did everything to win the game, we deserved it, but we kept going ”
    GETTY IMAGES
    RAKITIC REACTS
Sevilla star Ivan Rakitic scored from the penalty spot following Eder Militao’s handball and insists it was the right call.
Rakitic said: “I think we were closer to winning the game. We did a great first half, but they were better in the second.
“We have fought with one of the best in the league, which is our goal, to fight with the best.
“For me it is a clear hand. If it is a hand, it is a hand, it does not matter if it is voluntary or not, but here we can enter into what each one interprets.
“I think the referee was right and we can close this issue pretty quickly. Today the VAR has benefited us and not on Monday.
“For me, if it is a hand, it is a hand and that’s it, bad luck. If we go into interpreting each one can have their opinion.
“We should be proud of what we are doing. We will fight to the end ”
    GETTY IMAGES
    REAL EQUALISER
Here’s how Real Madrid equalised at the closing stages of the match.
Kroos fired a long-range shot that caught a crucial deflection.
Some have argued it was from Real team-mate Eden Hazard, but it seems like the culprit was Sevilla’s Diego Carlos.
Therefore, it all comes down to an own goal that Yassine Bounou couldn’t have possibly saved

Sevilla, on the other hand, remain fourth and on course of a Champions League return.
Julen Lopetegui’s men are also six points away from the top

    JUVENTUS 0-2 AC MILAN
    80. Ronaldo gives the ball away again, and this time it’s Rabiot’s turn to take blame.
He’s been extremely poor tonight. When Juventus needed him most, he hasn’t turned up.
But taking nothing away from AC Milan, they’ve been fantastic.
They’ve weathered the storm at times, and then took their chances. Massive, massive three points.
    JUVENTUS 0-2 AC MILAN
    77. AC Milan regain possession on the halfway line, and a quick pass is played forward to Rebic.
The Croatia international takes one touch to get the ball out of his feet, and side foots the ball into the top-right corner with his second!
    Unbelievable finish!
Just as Juventus looked like they were starting to get a hold of the game, AC Milan STUN them!
    GOOOOOOOOOAAAAAALLL!!!
WHAT A FANTASTIC FINISH BY REBIC!!!
    THUNDEROUS STRIKE!!!
    JUVENTUS 0-1 AC MILAN
    75. YELLOW CARD!
AC Milan winger Saelemaekers is booked for a late challenge, I believe that means he’ll miss their next league game.
Ibrahimovic picks up a knock and he is comforted by Juventus captain ChielliniCredit: GETTY IMAGES
    JUVENTUS 0-1 AC MILAN
    72. Juventus are starting to get on the ball more and it’s about time! 70 minutes too late.
The home side are starting to squeeze AC Milan back inside their own half.
But can they get an equaliser, or dare I say it, two to win the game?
    JUVENTUS 0-1 AC MILAN
    70. Rebic plays a wonderful pass around the corner, releasing Calhanoglu in behind Juventus’ back line.
The Turkey international looks like he’s going to kill the game off, none of Juve’s defenders are catching him.
But Szczesny comes flying out to gather, bringing the dangerous attack to an end!
    JUVENTUS 0-1 AC MILAN
    69. SUBSTITUTION!
Diaz has picked up a knock and he won’t be able to continue, massive shame for AC Milan.
He scored the only goal of the game so far, and what a goal it was!
    He is replaced by Krunic.
    JUVENTUS 0-1 AC MILAN
    68. Diaz plays some nice one-twos on the edge of Juventus’ penalty area, trying to work a shooting opportunity..
But he’s forced wide and dispossessed by Sandro.
Kessie is denied from the penalty spotCredit: GETTY IMAGES
    JUVENTUS 0-1 AC MILAN
    66. SUBSTITUTION!
Bentancur is coming off for Juventus, he’s put in a good shift in the heart of the midfield.
He is replaced by winger Kulusevski.
McKennie will now move into the midfield alongside Rabiot, allowing Kulusevski to play out wide on the right-hand side – his natural position.

Arsenal vs West Brom LIVE RESULT: Willian finally SCORES as Baggies relegation is CONFIRMED – latest reaction

WEST BROM have been relegated from the Premier League after losing 3-1 at Arsenal.Sam Allardyce has now been relegated from the top flight for the first time as a manager.
Emile Smith Rowe, Nicolas Pepe and Willian – opening his Gunners account – scored for Arsenal.
Follow all of the latest updates below…
    GOODNIGHT
West Bromwich Albion are down. Arsenal are out (of the Europa League).
But both sides can at least hold their heads up, if not high, after an entertaining encounter at the Emirates.
The Baggies threatened and fought hard, but – not for the first time – were let down by their finishing.
The Gunners, on the other hand, were ruthless in attack and scored three lovely goals through Emile Smith Rowe, Nicolas Pepe and – no joke – Willian.
So it’s two down and one to go in the Premier League. Fulham will join Sheffield United and Albion in the Championship if they lose at home to Burnley tomorrow.
Until then, however, kick back with Mark Irwin’s match report from the Emirates and relive the drama that sealed West Brom’s latest relegation.
    ARTETA REACTION
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta cut a relieved figure following his side’s 3-1 win over West Bromwich Albion. Speaking after the game, the Spaniard admitted that tonight’s success was the perfect way to deal with the heartache suffered by those at the club in midweek.
It’s always the best possible remedy to the pain that we have: to win a game and to score three beautiful goals.Mikel Arteta

    FLAT SAM
A clearly disappointed Sam Allardyce has been speaking following the first Premier League relegation of his career, praising his players for the endeavour they showed tonight. However, the West Brom manager failed to comment on whether he would still be at the club next season.
We took the game to Arsenal because we had to, but failed to find the right ball, cross or finish, and then in five minutes of sloppiness, they showed their quality of finishing that we couldn’t find. In the second half, we came out fighting but our major problem is finding the right opportunities in the final third.
It hasn’t sunk in yet, but I’ll probably wake up tomorrow and realise the situation. It’s bitterly disappointing we’re not still in the fight. I’m not saying we would have avoided relegation, but we should have been closer to avoiding it in the final three games.
Our time came and our time has passed. Our real problem was not beating the bottom six when we came up against them. Beating Chelsea, and drawing with Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool should have been bonus points.
[Staying on is] too early to consider or even talk about. When the time is right, we’ll talk about what’s going to happen next season. Tonight is about saying to the lads that they gave their all, and they should have a couple of days off, and then we’ll focus on Liverpool at the weekend.Sam AllardyceBT Sport

    CHEEKY LIKE THE WOLVES
As West Bromwich Albion’s relegation was being confirmed, the Twitter account of their Black Country rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers was picking that exact moment to post this image of Morgan Gibbs-White, who scored his first Premier League goal against Brighton earlier today.
    Must have been a coincidence.

    ALBION DOWN AND OUT
Relegation from the Premier League? West Brom know all about that.
Their manager, on the other hand, is experiencing it for the first time.
11 – Only Birmingham City (12) have suffered more top-flight relegations than West Brom (11), whilst their manager Sam Allardyce has been relegated from the Premier League for the very first time, having managed in 17 different seasons in the competition. FULL TIME STATS

And that’s it, West Brom are relegated ❌Sam Allardyce is relegated from the Premier League for the first time in his managerial career ⬇️ pic.twitter.com/VWSe9l84ZD— Football on BT Sport (@btsportfootball) May 9, 2021

PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!THE FINAL WHISTLE GOES!WEST BROM ARE RELEGATED!

    ARSENAL 3-1 WBA
90+2. Into five minutes of additional time, and while West Brom haven’t given up, they know their time in the Premier League is almost over.
Pereira looks for his second as he connects with a cross from the left, but it’s blocked at close range by Holding.

    GOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLL!!WILLIAN SCORES!!HIS FIRST ARSENAL GOAL!!
    ARSENAL 2-1 WBA
    89. There’s some tired legs out there now, but remarkably two of them aren’t Willian’s.
The Brazilian shows a change of pace, and then beats an opponent to a loose ball to win a free-kick 25 yards from goal.
    ARSENAL 2-1 WBA
    87. Have West Brom got one last push in them?
If they have, it will have to come soon because Arsenal are beginning to recompose themselves on the ball.
    ARSENAL 2-1 WBA
    85. The Arsenal players are getting nervous.
The Arsenal fans are getting nervous.
Anyone would think it was them staring relegation in the face.
Imagine thinking you should be in the Champions league or Super League when you can’t be sure you’ll beat West Brom when 2 up— Daily Cannon (@DailyCannon) May 9, 2021

    ARSENAL 2-1 WBA
    84. A wayward Tierney cross is met by a wayward Chambers shot.
    Wayward.
    ARSENAL 2-1 WBA
    83. Willian plays an incisive pass into the feet of Pepe on the right, and the Ivorian looks primed to attack.
However, that’s reckoning without Townsend, who executes a perfect block tackle to win back possession.
    ARSENAL 2-1 WBA
    81. Lacazette is stunned to concede a free-kick in his own half, but it brings another deal ball opportunity for Albion to send up the big men.
Pereira delivers into the box, and again it’s Furlong that gets his head on it. Over.
    ARSENAL 2-1 WBA
    80. Willian receives some treatment.
It’s probably for the shock brought on by realising he’s going to have to play the full 90 minutes.
    ARSENAL 2-1 WBA
    77. Arsenal make their third and final change.
Dani Ceballos had also picked up a caution so Mikel Arteta’s not going to risk him for the final stages. On comes Thomas Partey.
    ARSENAL 2-1 WBA
    76. Gallagher picks up a booking for a late challenge.
    ARSENAL 2-1 WBA
    75. Albion pack the penalty area for a long throw which causes an almighty scramble.
It’s getting messy, it’s getting physical, it’s getting nervy.
Now Sam Allardyce’s expertise is coming to the fore.
    ARSENAL 2-1 WBA
    73. Oooh! That could have – perhaps should have – been the equaliser.
It’s a lovely cross from Phillips on the left that’s met on the run by Furlong from full-back.
The defender gets a glancing header to the delivery, and sends it just wide of the far post with Leno rooted to his spot.
    ARSENAL 2-1 WBA
    72. Gallagher is starting to get himself on the ball for the visitors, and is causing Arsenal some problems.
    ARSENAL 2-1 WBA
    70. There might be some truth in Kyle Bartley’s assumption.
Arsenal are now looking decidedly shaky at the back since conceding.

    GOOOOAAAALLL – CALVERT-LEWIN!
    West Ham 0 – 1 Everton
Ben Godfrey plays a straight ball down the right hand channel for the striker.
He leaves a sluggish Craig Dawson for dead and slots it back across Fabianski and into the bottom left corner with his right foot to give the Toffees a valuable lead.

    KICK-OFF!
    West Ham 0 – 0 Everton
The teams are off and underway at the London Stadium in this key game in the Champions League race.
West Ham can move within two points of fourth placed Leicester with a win while Everton will go eight points off the foxes with a game in hand.
    ROM DECISION
Ashley Young admitted he was baffled by Manchester United’s decision to sell Romelu Lukaku.
Young – who joined Lukaku at Inter six months later – said: “I said it at the time, I couldn’t understand the decision.
“Whether it was made quickly or not, Romelu has proved a lot of people wrong.
“He’s worked unbelievably hard. There was talk that he was overweight and couldn’t do this or that.
“He’s smashed records and made history in Italy, he’s been unbelievable for the club.
“For me he was fantastic even in the Premier League, to go out there and face another challenge, I think it was the right choice for him.
“He deserves all the plaudits he is getting.”
    UNITED LEAD
Manchester City’s title celebrations have been put on hold!
Goals from Bruno Fernandes and Mason Greenwood have given Manchester United a 2-1 lead at Villa Park.
Aston Villa need to find two goals in the last 12 minutes if City are to be victorious today.

    THE MAIN MANA
Manchester United are battling it out with Ajax in the transfer chase for Kamaldeen Sulemana, according to reports.
The Ghanaian winger, 19, has been in good form for Danish side Nordsjaelland this season.
According to the Daily Mail, Ajax already saw a bid of £10million rejected in January.
But the Dutch giants still want to complete a deal for the teenage wide man.
Ajax director of football Marc Overmars is expected to be in Denmark on Monday to watch Nordsjaelland’s clash with Copenhagen.
The report adds that United remain very interested – as do German outfit Bayer Leverkusen.
    WOLVES 2 BRIGHTON 1
Lewis Dunk went from hero to zero as Brighton missed out on the chance to guarantee their Premier League survival.
The Seagulls skipper thumped in a header from a corner after just 13 minutes to give the visitors the lead at Molineux.
But after coming close to adding a second in the first half, the second started in nightmare fashion for the centre-back.
With Fabio Silva racing clear, he cynically dragged the striker down and was duly given his marching orders by Jon Moss.
The ten men’s resistance was finally broken 14 minutes from time as substitute Adama Traore played a neat one-two with Silva and fired in.
And as the clock hit 90, Morgan Gibbs-White smashed in a dramatic winner minutes after missing a sitter.
Neal Maupay was sent off for foul and abusive language after the full-time whistle to compound more misery on a torrid afternoon for Graham Potter’s side.

    NOT DANE YET
Zinedine Zidane has backed under-fire star Eden Hazard to turn his career around at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Hazard has endured a torrid two-year spell marred by injury at Real ever since his £90million move from Chelsea.
It all got worse for the Belgium international on Wednesday after Los Blancos’ miserable Champions League elimination to Chelsea, who beat them 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.
The 30-year-old was caught having a laugh with former team-mate Kurt Zouma after the whistle and was derided by the club’s faithful as well as the Spanish press.
Hazard has since apologised for the incident but his position at Real is becoming increasingly untenable as Football Espana claim that he is “no longer an untouchable asset” for Zidane’s side.
The Real boss said: “Eden Hazard has said sorry about [the Zouma incident] the other day. He did it well, it wasn’t his intention to hurt anyone.
“That’s the most important thing. Eden is a Real Madrid player and he’ll compete for Real Madrid.”

    UNITED V VILLA TEAM NEWS
The teams for today’s Premier League match between Manchester United and Aston Villa are in.
    Kick-off is at 2:05pm.

    SMOKE AND MAR-RORS
Neymar has left former club Barcelona feeling ‘betrayed and used’ after signing a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain, according to reports.
The Brazilian has been linked with a return to the Catalan giants four years after departing for a world record fee.
But those rumours were quashed earlier this week when Neymar signed a new deal with the French champions.
The contract extension, which will see him earn £500,000 per week, keeps him at the Parc des Princes until 2025.
And according to RAC1, Neymar’s decision to snub Barcelona for PSG has left those on the board of the Spanish giants feeling disgruntled.
    POMPEY COULD MISS OUT
Portsmouth are currently losing 1-0 to Accrington and are set to miss out on a place in the League One play-offs.
With rivals Oxford winning 2-0, Pompey will probably need to win today’s game if they are to finish sixth and keep their promotion hopes alive.
Well this isn’t going to plan for Portsmouth… 😬Accrington work it nicely before an outstanding finish by Adam Phillips! 🚀Watch live on Sky Sports Football 📺 pic.twitter.com/ejIKIqqN9R— Sky Sports Football (@SkyFootball) May 9, 2021

    ALAN NIXON EXCLUSIVE
Manchester City lead the race for powerful young Espanyol striker Mateo Fernandez.
Fernandez, 17, was born in Spain but his family are English and he may be moving back to the UK for his next move.
The teenager qualifies for both countries.
He is seen by City as a player they can bring through because he is physically strong and technically good.
Pep Guardiola is believed to be looking for striker reinforcements with the club’s all-time top scorer Sergio Aguero set to leave this summer.
    Credit: RCD Espanyol
    ICYMI – AGUERO’S FAILED PANENKA
Sergio Aguero had a moment to forget yesterday as his failed panenka cost Manchester City at the Etihad.
With the hosts 1-0 up, the striker’s risky effort failed and Chelsea came back to win 2-1.
It’s unlikely Aguero will try it again in the Champions League final – if he’s selected.

    ALAN NIXON EXCLUSIVE
Manchester United are set to miss out on the signing of Dundee United whizkid Kerr Smith.
Aston Villa are now leading the race for the highly-rated centre-half.
The 16-year-old looks to be heading to Villa Park rather than Old Trafford at the end of the season.
He could join Villa in the summer for around £500,000 down, plus extras.
Smith has been to United to train for a week.
And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side felt they were in the driving seat to secure his signature.
However, there may be a clearer pathway to the first team at Villa.

    ICYMI – DERBY SURVIVE
Derby County survived relegation to League One on a dramatic final day in the Championship.
As Rotherham failed to beat Cardiff, Wayne Rooney’s side’s 3-3 draw with Sheffield Wednesday was enough to stay up and relegate their opponents.
The Millers and the Owls will be joined by Wycombe in the third tier next season.
Here’s the moment Derby’s Championship status was confirmed…

    ALAN NIXON EXCLUSIVE
Watford are in talks with Colombian striker Rafael Borre about joining the Premier League new boys on a free.
Borre is leaving Argentine side River Plate – where he played in the Copa Libertadores final in 2019 – and wants to come back to Europe.
The 25-year-old was with Atletico Madrid early in his career before heading back to South America for more regular action.
Watford boss Xisco Munoz is looking for a couple of new strikers and Borre would fit in neatly with his limited budget.
The Hornets signed Borre’s countryman Carlos Sanchez in the promotion run-in and could land the forward.
Borre has other Premier League interest and Atletico would also take him back, although he would not be guaranteed a starting place again in LaLiga.
Watford’s recruitment drive comes after they finished the season second in the Championship to secure an immediate return to the Premier League.

    ALAN NIXON EXCLUSIVE
Conor Gallagher is set to make his fan club wait and try to crack it at Chelsea next season.
Midfielder Gallagher is heading back to Blues after a season on loan at West Brom.
The 21-year-old has shone while at the Hawthorns despite their relegation struggle.
He has played 28 times in all competitions for the Baggies and confirmed his Premier League potential.
Gallagher’s displays have caught admiring glances from elsewhere.
And a host of top-flight sides were hoping to secure his services for next season.
Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United have been tracking his progress closely.
Crystal Palace are keen to bring the ace across the capital to Selhurst Park in the summer.
And Newcastle are also on alert to take him either permanently or on loan from Chelsea.
But Gallagher has other ideas and aims to force his way into boss Thomas Tuchel’s plans.
    WHAT A GOAL
Check out this goal from Hartlepool’s Rhys Oates against Maidenhead yesterday.
Bet he’s delighted the camera was on!
This is ridiculous! 👏Rhys Oates took on the whole Maidenhead defence before slamming the ball home for Hartlepool earlier today 🤩A goal Lionel Messi would be proud of! 🐐 pic.twitter.com/O12hXo2bOs— Football on BT Sport (@btsportfootball) May 8, 2021

ICYMI – ERIKSEN WANTS TO STAY
Christian Eriksen has revealed he is desperate to STAY at Inter Milan just six months after begging the club to sell him.
Spurs, Manchester United, Wolves and Leicester were all rumoured to be in for the Danish star earlier this season.
But now after finding his feet under the Italian and helping the club win their first Serie A crown in 11 years, Eriksen is desperate to help ‘build something beautiful’ at the San Siro.
On his rocky start to life at Inter, Eriksen told Gazzetta dello Sport: “I was willing to learn new things when I arrived. I hadn’t understood I had to follow’s Conte system all the time.
“Before, I was free to make decisions based on what I saw. It had a lot to do with intuition. Now, there is a general plan we have to follow… we must be ready, know where our team-mates are and where they can move. I had to learn all this and adapt to a different pace.
“We spoke in January, and I’ve proved what I am able to do. I have no revenge to take, I just play football. Sometimes it goes well, sometimes it doesn’t. This is a sport that evolves quickly, almost every week. Six months ago I was living in a different situation, now we have a trophy and I can say I am really happy here at Inter.
“It was hard to win this title, but we did it with four games remaining. It’s a good starting point, now we can begin a new cycle… it will be hard to win nine titles in a row, but we’ll try to build something beautiful. Conte is so important for each one of us, also for the way we play. We follow him and you see that on the pitch.
“Everyone is so happy to have won with him.. but his stay is not up to me – it depends on the club and him.”

    TITLE TARGET
Magda Eriksson wants Chelsea to bring their ‘A’ game to beat Reading in a duel to determine if they retain their WSL crown.
Eriksson, 27, said: “I’m really proud of the team, and what we’ve achieved this season so far.
“But we’re 100% aware that the job isn’t done, we still have a big, big assignment, and a big task today.
“We know Reading are a tough team, and they’re going to bring their ‘A’ game and try to ruin things for us, so we know there’s a lot left to do
“But I’ve been really, really proud of how we dealt with the season.
“It’s been a difficult season. We’ve not been able to see our loved ones because of Covid, we’ve not been able to go home.
“I think the way we’ve taken care of each other this season has been amazing and a big part of the success for sure.”
    ROYAL BLUE
Emma Hayes hopes Blues fan Fara Williams will back Chelsea becoming WSL champs even if they trounce Reading.
Hayes, 44, said: “I admire Fara immensely for achieving what she’s done with the setbacks she’s had.
“She’s got a great football mind, a great understanding of football tactics,
“She has a love and appreciation for that and I think she will be outstanding if she goes into coaching.
“I don’t know what she will be doing [after she stops playing] but I certainly encourage that she does.
“I think it’s fitting that she finishes a career at the club she started at and I know she’s a Chelsea fan.
“I hope that, even if she’s on the losing team on Sunday, the other team she supports is winning the title.”

    What is the team news?
Grani Xhaka is a doubt for Arsenal. The Swiss star withdrew from their Europa League tie against Villarreal with a muscle problem and was replaced before kick-off with Kieran Tierney.
David Luiz (hamstring) is a doubtful to feature.

    What have they said?
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta on young stars Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka: “It gives me a lot of confidence because they have shown what they can do.”
“It’s true that playing in a semi-final at this level is a different story, but as well they need the right surroundings around them to grow, without putting too much pressure on them.
“[Emile] took responsibility in the second half, he really tried. He had a big chance to score and I think he was feeling responsible, which is a good reaction from him but we have to bear in mind that those players have never played a game like that, it was their first experience and they have to go through that – and they will learn.”

    KT IS BACK
Kieran Tierney is likely to start for the Gunners against West Brom today.

    TOP FOUR HOPES (OFFICIALLY) OVER
Arsenal’s extremely slim hopes of finishing in the top four this season are officially over following Chelsea’s 2-1 victory at Manchester City.
The result leaves them 14 points behind Leicester City with four games to go.

    MCCABE ON NEW DEAL
Arsenal forward Katie McCabe has signed a new long-term contract with the club.
The Republic of Ireland captain has been in good form this season, scoring four and setting up 12.
Discussing her new deal, McCabe said: “I’m absolutely delighted.
“I love this club and I feel like we’re in a really good place and that we’re ready to push on now.
“I’m delighted it got done and now I’m ready to kick on and help this club win more trophies.
“It’s been amazing ever since I came over, it’s been such a massive part of my life.
“There’s been ups and downs along the way, but I feel like I’m in a really good place now with the team that we’ve got, the players we’ve got and all the staff we have behind the scenes.
“I’m really, really happy to be here and to commit my future.”
    INJURY UPDATE
The Gunners have confirmed David Luiz, Granit Xhaka and Pablo Mari will miss today’s match against West Brom.
Luiz sustained a hamstring injury against Newcastle in Arsenal’s last Premier League match and will continue his rehab next week.
Whether the Brazilian will play again this season – or indeed for the club due to his expiring contract – is unknown.
Xhaka has suffered a groin strain and will continue to be assessed over the coming days.
Mari sprained an ankle during Thursday’s Europa League defeat to Villarreal and is aiming to rejoin training next week.
    MORNING ARSENAL FANS
Arsenal take on lowly West Brom at Emirates Stadium this evening looking to lift the gloom that has hung over the club since Thursday’s Europa League exit at the hands of former manager Unai Emery’s Villarreal.
And in his programme notes for the match, skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has apologised to supporters for his side’s poor performance.
The striker, 31, wrote: “I thought my header was in when it hit the post but it just wasn’t going to happen.
“Like I said, we are really upset about going out of the competition at this stage, for ourselves, for the club and most of all for you the supporters.
“It’s been such a difficult season for fans and we desperately wanted to give you something positive this season – I’m just so sorry we couldn’t do it for you.”
Gunners fans have protested outside the Emirates before their last two home games.
And club insiders are fearful of provoking more fury with a latest blow.
SunSport exclusively revealed last night that teenage prodigy Kido Taylor-Hart is considering walking away for nothing at the end of the season.
And club insiders fear that losing a prominent youngster could further push already fuming supporters into taking action.
    ‘ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE’
Under-fire Mikel Arteta says Arsenal must spend big — before the gap to the top sides becomes “almost impossible” to bridge.
And the Gunners boss believes owner Stan Kroenke WILL provide a significant war chest this summer to try to stop the rot.
Mid-table Arsenal are way off the pace again and Arteta said: “Time is catching up right now.
“It’s a trend, it’s years now that this has been happening.
“If the distance and the margins with the rest becomes too big, then it’s almost impossible to do it.
“I think we are still on time and we have put some very strong pillars and foundations in the last few months to do what we have to do.
“We are in the right place to do it — and we have to do it.
“The squad needs changing. There were already a lot of changes in December, something that has not been done in years, but it tells us where we were.
“Things have to change and the owners are going to back it up.”

    TAKING THE MIK
Former Spurs striker Dimitar Berbatov has called on Arsenal to stick with under-fire Mikel Arteta.
Ad the Bulgarian also described his former rivals not reaching the Europa League final as a ‘shame’.
He told Betfair: “People are talking about changing the Arsenal manager? Really? Mikel Arteta is a young manager and I hope he stays – I think that will be the case.
“It’s a shame they didn’t reach the final as that would have given them a good end to the season. They are massively underperforming.
“They need to strengthen their squad. Manchester United are looking like old United finally under Alex Ferguson, whilst Arsenal look no better than the last days under Arsene Wenger.”

    HARTS IN MOUTH
    SunSport Exclusive by Duncan Wright
Arsenal fear more fan fury if they fail to tie down teenage prodigy Kido Taylor-Hart to a new deal in the next month.
The highly-rated 18-year-old’s scholarship runs out this summer and a host of clubs from England and the continent have offered him pro terms.
Arsenal put a professional contract on the table earlier this year.
But so far Taylor-Hart has not committed himself and could still walk away for nothing at the end of the season.
His situation is being watched closely by Gunners fans.
Supporters are already upset at how the club is being run – not just in terms of the first team but also the development of young talent.
And there is likely to be uproar if the club is unable to tie him down to a contract and let him walk away.
He has options open to him in the Premier League, Bundesliga, Holland and Belgium.

    NO CHANGE
Josh Buatsi fears if Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has been forced off of social media by racist abuse then most other black sportspeople don’t stand a chance.
The Ghana-born South Londoner boldly took the knee before his thrilling October win over Marko Calic to fight against racial injustice.
But after spending eight weeks in San Francisco training with new trainer Virgil Hunter, he has returned to an almost identical landscape and learned Gunners icon Henry quit social media all together.
Ahead of Saturday’s Manchester match-up with undefeated Daniel Dos Santos, the 13-0 Rio 2016 bronze winner said: “I don’t think things have really improved but, when we talk about the sport of boxing, I personally have never experienced any racism in professional boxing.
“Internationally, in the amateurs, yes a few times in different countries but in [pro] boxing I have not.
“In the world now, are things changing? No, I think things are still the same.
“I can understand why certain Premier League footballers are saying ‘forget getting the knee, no changes are being made whatsoever’. I can see that.
“When I was in America I think I read that Thierry Henry has quit social media totally, he is just not up for it.
“He was a really good footballer so if people like him are experiencing it, then who knows what other people are experiencing?
“I haven’t thought about taking the knee for this fight yet, we will see.”

    GAME AUBA
Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has apologised to the fans for his side’s Europa League exit on Thursday night.
The striker wrote in his programme notes for tomorrow’s clash with West Brom: “We struggled to find our rhythm in the first half and didn’t give Villarreal enough problems.
“And when we had a chance, the luck wasn’t there for us, when I hit the post with the volley and then the header in the second half.
“I thought we started the second half with more energy and put them under pressure, but we just couldn’t maintain that drive and ultimately, we just didn’t find a way through Villarreal.
“I thought my header was in when it hit the post but it just wasn’t going to happen.
“Like I said, we are really upset about going out of the competition at this stage, for ourselves, for the club and most of all for you the supporters.
“It’s been such a difficult season for fans and we desperately wanted to give you something positive this season – I’m just so sorry we couldn’t do it for you.”

    STUTT-ERING
Bundesliga side Stuttgart are in talks with Arsenal over keeping loanee Konstantinos Mavropanos, according to club chief Sven Mislintat.
The former Gunners transfer guru told Kicker: “We’re trying to get a loan.”
And he also admitted: “Buying is difficult in the current situation. Now there is a bit of back and forth.”

    ART OF WAR
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta urged his players to ‘show fans on the pitch’ why his is a project to get behind.
In the aftermath of Thursday night’s clash with Villarreal, he said: “We have to show them on the pitch, not talking.
“We are hugely disappointed because we wanted to deliver something special to them after the difficult season that we had.”

    TAKING THE MIK?
England legend John Barnes has called on Arsenal to stick with rookie manager Mikel Arteta.
He said: “Arsenal must learn from Klopp’s first two years at Liverpool and stick with Arteta.
“Arsenal will look at what Arteta is doing and realise that he is building for the future with the young players like Saka and Smith Rowe.
“They’re looking to promote and play young players so Arsenal can’t demand instant success as they’re not spending hundreds of millions of pounds on players so, therefore, they have to put up with what they’re doing now if they believe in the long-term future of the club.”
