    SILVA SIGNING
Thiago Silva has agreed a contract extension keeping him at Chelsea for another season.
The Blues triggered the new year-long deal clause for their veteran centre-back just hours after Champions League-winning boss Thomas Tuchel signed on until 2024.
Thiago Silva contract extended. 👇— Champions of Europe 🏆 (@ChelseaFC) June 4, 2021

Silva joined Chelsea from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer last summer.
Convinced by Frank Lampard to move to London, Silva made an immediate impact in the Blues’ back line.
However, deployed at the heart of a three-man defence under Tuchel, Silva went to another level.
And his stunning efforts at the age of 36 helped Chelsea land their second Champions League trophy last weekend.
LIVERPOOL ‘HEAD UTD IN RAPH RACE’
Liverpool have stolen a march on Manchester United in the race to sign Raphinha, reports say.
The Reds are in pole position to land the Brazilian winger after his impressive debut season at Leeds.
According to the Express, Liverpool are ahead of their rivals Man Utd and Manchester City in the race.
But the report also states that Leeds have no intention of letting the 24-year-old go.
BALE TO WAIT FOR REAL TALKS
Gareth Bale will hold talks over his future with new Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti after Euro 2020.
The Wales captain, 31, was signed by ex-Everton boss Ancelotti in 2013 and the pair won the Champions League a year later.
Gareth Bale worked with Carlo Ancelotti during his first stint at Real Madrid
But Bale, who had a season on loan at Tottenham, revealed last month his future plans would cause ‘chaos’.
Then Bale cast further doubt over his playing future earlier this week when he refused to rule out retiring after the Euros following reports in Spain.
Bale still has 12 months remaining on his eye-watering £650,000-a-week Real contract.
And when asked if Ancelotti’s second stint at the Bernabeu will affect his future plans, Bale said: “No, I am not thinking about anything until after the Euros.
“I know Carlo Ancelotti, he’s a great manager and I get on with him really well. We had some great times in the past.
“But I haven’t spoken to anyone. I’m not thinking about my future.
“As soon as the Euros finishes I’m sure I will have a conversation and then I will go from there.
CHELSEA FACE SUPER CUP IN BELFAST
Chelsea’s Super Cup clash with Villarreal on August 11 WILL be held at Belfast’s Windsor Park after all.
Uefa confirmed the venue on Friday – despite Turkish sports minister Mehmet Kasapoglu earlier insisting his country would host the showpiece game and the 2023 Champions League final.
The Turkish government believe that would make up for missing out on staging the Champions League final two seasons running due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Chelsea’s 1-0 final victory over Manchester City last weekend was instead held at Porto in Portugal.
Villarreal earned their own place in the Super Cup with an 11-10 shootout triumph against Manchester United in the Europa League finale.
Irish FA CEO Patrick Nelson said: “We have kept in close contact with our partners at UEFA on the matter and following these discussions we are delighted that they have confirmed that the game will stay in Belfast.”
    ARD CHOICE TO MAKE
Inter Milan have reportedly entered the race for Odsonne Edouard.
Arsenal, Leicester and AC Milan were all in for the Celtic striker, who could be ready to leave Glasgow this summer.
But Italian outlet Metropolitan Magazine claim new Inter boss Simone Inzaghi is a fan of the Frenchman’s and wants to do a deal.
KANE URGED TO MAKE SPAIN MOVE
Gary Lineker has admitted he would like to see Harry Kane follow in his footsteps and sign for Barcelona.
A host of English clubs are chasing the Tottenham man but fellow ex-Spurs striker Lineker would be interested to see him move abroad.
He told Goal: “I would love to see him at Barcelona but they are going for Aguero and are short on cash at the moment.
“I think it is between Manchester City, Manchester United and maybe PSG.
“They have [Mauricio] Pochettino and he would win things, guaranteed.
“I think it is more likely that one of the Manchester clubs can afford him outside of Chelsea. I don’t think he would go to Chelsea and do that to the Tottenham fans but who knows?”
    TARGET MAN
Manchester United are hopeful of finally signing Jadon Sancho this summer, reports say.
The Red Devils are ‘pressing ahead’ with a deal for the 21-year-old Dortmund rising star.
The Athletic report that talks are underway again between United and the German side.
And the Old Trafford side hope they can sign him for less than the £108million asking price last summer.
The Red Devils were desperate to land Sancho last summer. But Dortmund’s previous asking price proved to be more than United were willing to pay.
Bundesliga side Dortmund are reportedly holding out for £80m plus another £20m in add-ons.

    MAR MONEY
Arsenal have reportedly threatened to trigger an extension in Matteo Guendouzi’s contract, if Marseille don’t stump up more than £8.6million.
The Frenchman has been in Gunners exile, since falling out with Mikel Arteta during the back end of the 2019-20 season, yet still has value in the market.
Marseille are keen on France youth international Guendouzi, and are willing to spend £8.6m on the North London outcast.
Arsenal, however, have a trick up their sleeve. The Gunners possess an option to extend Guendouzi’s contract by a further year to June 2023, a scenario that would suit neither party.
But according to Le10Sport, they are threatening to do so if L’OM don’t pay up.
    BERXIT
Bernardo Silva is a transfer target for Atletico Madrid, according to reports.
The Portuguese playmaker, 26, was less influential for Manchester City this term with two league goals compared to six last season, but did start in the Champions League final.
LaLiga champions Atletico reportedly want to strengthen their midfield, and Bernardo is a name on their shortlist.
But the Spanish side are looking to negotiate a price less than his £60m valuation, according to AS.
    JU DECIDE
Cristiano Ronaldo has been given the go ahead to join PSG this summer, reports in Italy say.
The Portuguese star, 36, faces an uncertain future at Juventus after three years at the club.
And Corriere dello Sport claim the Serie A side have given him the green light to leave if he wants to.
A headline on their front page today read: “Ronaldo you choose.”
And it went on to explain: “Juve do not oppose Cristiano’s farewell.
“PSG are pressing, they want to support him with Neymar.”

    NETFLIX AND CEL
Lille defender Zeki Celik is on the radars of Manchester United, Tottenham and Arsenal.
That is according to Evening Standard, who claim the right-back would cost just £13million this summer.
United are after competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka while Arsenal may have to replace Hector Bellerin.
Likewise, Spurs are likely to lose Serge Aurier after he expressed his desire for a move.
    OH NEY YOU DON’T
Neymar was accidentally two-footed by a pair of over-excited fans as Brazil arrived at their team hotel on Thursday night – before one ran off with his SHOE.
Tite’s squad were just departing the team bus ahead of their 2022 World Cup qualifier against Ecuador when Neymar was chopped down by two supporters.
As the Paris Saint-Germain forward, 29, got off the coach, fans could be heard screaming in excitement.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, two supporters sprinted over, lost their footing and slid in, taking Neymar down in worrying manner.
One of the tacklers was spotted quickly running off with one of the Brazilian’s shoes.
Security swarmed on the pair before Neymar gingerly got up and hobbled away with just one shoe on.

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia has praised Thomas Tuchel for his quick adaptation to life at Stamford Bridge after he signed a new contract.
She told the club website: “When Thomas joined us in January there was still so much to play for domestically and in Europe.
“He slotted in seamlessly and immediately became an integral part of the Chelsea family.
“Returning us to the top four in the Premier League was crucial, and we could not be happier with our success in the Champions League which crowned a remarkable season at Chelsea.
“We are obviously extremely pleased therefore to retain Thomas for a further two years, and look forward to more achievements in the coming seasons.”

Thomas Tuchel has given his reaction to signing a new three-year Chelsea contract.

Tuchel said: “I cannot imagine a better occasion for a contract renewal. I am grateful for the experience and very happy to stay part of the Chelsea family.
“There is far more to come and we are looking forward to our next steps with ambition and much anticipation.”

Saul, 26, is reportedly eager for a new challenge having spent his whole career at Atletico, and he does not feel as important to Diego Simeone after making just 22 league starts this term.
The midfielder has a release clause of £128million but the Spanish champions are willing to let him go for a lot less, according to journalist Matteo Moretto.
Matteo reports Chelsea and PSG’s ‘attentive’ interest in Saul, but believes nothing is advanced at this stage.

    COP OUT
The Copa America has been plunged into chaos with Brazil stars considering a BOYCOTT.
The continental competition runs between June 13 and July 10, with Argentina and Colombia initially named co-hosts.
But a spike in coronavirus cases in Argentina combined with protests against Colombian president Ivan Duque saw Brazil awarded hosting rights in the 11th hour.
Brazilian players have now spoken with national football confederation president Rogerio Caboclo over the possibility of skipping the tournament over Covid fears.
Several Brazilian states including Pernambuco, Minas Gerais and Rio Grande do Sul have already refused to host games.
Boss Tite revealed: “[The squad] have an opinion, they exposed it to the president and they will expose it to the public at the appropriate time.”

And Ancelotti’s first act as Los Blancos boss was to cut his players’ holidays short as he aims to get straight down to business.
Zidane had told the Galacticos to return to training on July 12 – the day after the Euro 2020 final.
But Ancelotti is keen to get to work quickly, telling players to come back on July 7 instead.

    GOOD MORNING UNITED FANS
Manchester United are reportedly still firmly in the hunt for Fiorentina centre-back Nikola Milenkovic.
Milenkovic’s current deal with Fiorentina is due to expire next June and it does not appear he will be penning an extension, making a summer exit likely.
Man United’s interest in the Serbia international had thought to have cooled but according to La Nazione, the Red Devils are still keen on a deal for the defender.
Elsewhere on the transfer front, United have fallen behind Liverpool in the race for Raphinha, according to journalist Gianluigi Longari.
The Leeds United ace has enjoyed an excellent first season in the English top-flight. He has thrived under Marcelo Bielsa and has seen his value skyrocket in recent months.
His performances have attracted the attention of some of the league’s top teams, including Manchester City.
Leeds are not ready to part ways with their star man and with a number of clubs in the fray, the deal is far from straightforward.
However, the Red Devils are reportedly prepared to offer a massive sum of €80 million [£68.8million] in order to sign Saul Niguez from Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window.
According to a report from Spanish publication El Gol Digital, United are plotting a summer raid on La Liga champions Atletico Madrid for the transfer of midfielder Saul Niguez.
Saul’s stock is high in the footballing community, as evidenced by the interest he is courting from Barcelona.
    COMPETITION FOR TRIPPIER
Everton are reportedly interested in Manchester United target Kieran Trippier.
The Manchester Evening News understands that United have revived their interest in Atletico Madrid’s Trippier, after they abandoned a move for the right-back in the January transfer window.
It’s reported that although Trippier still has two years remaining on his contract in Spain, the cash-strapped Atleti are open to offers.
A centre-back, defensive-midfielder and right-winger are the priority targets for United, but it’s understood that competition at right-back for Aaron Wan-Bissaka is also on the agenda.
    ‘CLEVER FOOTBALLER’
Sven Goran Eriksson believes that Jesse Lingard should have been included in the 26-man England squad for the upcoming European Championships.
The 28-year-old has undergone a tremendous career turnaround since joining West Ham United on loan from Manchester United in January.
ingard was included in Gareth Southgate’s preliminary squad for the Euros but was cut when the final list was announced.
Eriksson was shocked at Lingard’s omission, with the former England manager questioning current boss Gareth Southgate’s decision.
He told talkSPORT: “It’s a surprise that Lingard’s not there because even to have him on the bench with his pace and one-on-one ability, he’s a clever footballer.
“He had a good season with West Ham. I didn’t see him play every game, but the games I saw he has been very good.
“It’s always difficult. In the end, you can only pick the number [of players] that you’re allowed to pick. Someone will be disappointed – it’s always like that.”
    TELL ALL
Manchester United outcast Alex Telles has opened up on his relationship with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer amid exit talks.
Telles endured a tricky start to life in Manchester after he tested positive for coronavirus early on, which forced him to sit out two league games due to self-isolation rules.
The full-back has made just nine appearances in the Premier League as a result of failing to dislodge Luke Shaw from the starting eleven.
The Brazilian told United’s official club website: “Yes, I believe I’ve made the most of this season, I’ve learnt a great deal, I learnt a lot of things, I’ve developed as a player and a person as well.”
He discussed next season with optimism, claiming: “I’m really happy with my first season at United and I’m sure that next season will be even better.
“I think I always took the opportunity to do my best whenever I was on the pitch. I had good games, with the adaptation process the first season isn’t easy.
“But I believe that when Ole gave me the opportunity and placed his trust in me and put me on the pitch, I did my best.
“I’m sure that I’ll continue doing even better to spend more time on the pitch and get a lot more minutes.”

    NIK HIM AWAY?
Manchester United are reportedly still firmly in the hunt for Fiorentina centre-back Nikola Milenkovic.
Milenkovic’s current deal with Fiorentina is due to expire next June, though, and it does not appear that he will be penning an extension, making a summer exit likely.
Man United’s interest in the Serbia international had thought to have cooled, but according to La Nazione, the Red Devils are still keen on a deal for the defender.
The report claims that AC Milan are also keeping a close eye on developments, while West Ham United could also reportedly compete for his signature during this summer’s transfer window.

Meanwhile Cristiano Ronaldo is eyeing an appearance as Portugal take on Spain in a Euros warm-up clash.

Follow all of the latest news, build up and updates below…
    TRENT ‘GUTTED’
Trent Alexander-Arnold has posted on Instagram that he is ‘absolutely gutted’ to be out of Euro 2020.
Having fought so hard to get back into the England squad, the Liverpool defender is out for six weeks after tearing a muscle in the friendly against Austria.

    TRENT KO
Trent Alexander-Arnold has received countless messages wishing him well after being ruled out of Euro 2020.

    EXCLUSIVE
Ed Sheeran is finally making a music comeback by unveiling his latest song at a huge gig, I can exclusively reveal, writes Simon Boyle.
The superstar, who has been on hiatus for 18 months, has signed up to play at TikTok’s UEFA Euro 2020 Show this month at the grounds of his beloved Ipswich Town.
And fans worried they won’t be able to get tickets to the show at Portman Road needn’t worry, as it will be free to stream.
The TikTok concert comes after I revealed Ed had signed a deal to become the face of the video app.
An insider said: “Ed’s major deal was all linked up to this gig — and its going to be amazing. The venue holds a very special place in Ed’s heart.
“As well as singing some of his classic songs, he will be performing his as-yet-unheard single for the first time ever. Ed has kept details of the track, including the name, under wraps but fans are in for a real treat.”
The show takes place at 9pm on Friday, June 25 — and fans can watch it live for free simply by downloading the TikTok app.
    PUNDITS TALE OF THE TAPE
The BBC and ITV are set to go head-to-head this summer in broadcasting Euro 2020.

    MUNICH CALLING
Bavaria state officials have given the green light for Munich’s Allianz Arena to host 14,000 spectators during Euro 2020.
Uefa had demanded venues allow at least some fans into matches despite the coronavirus pandemic.
And  Bavaria’s state premier Markus Soeder has now confirmed: “With a strict sanitary protocol, tests and masks, the stadium will be allowed to fill up to 20 percent capacity, or about 14,000 spectators.”
Germany’s three group games will take place at the stadium, against France, Portugal and Hungary, before the city hosts a quarter-final.
    YAN THE MAN
Yannick Carrasco gatecrashed Eden Hazard’s interview just to troll him about the 2020-21 LaLiga title race.
The pair are currently on Belgium duty as they prepare for this summer’s European Championship.
But despite kicking off a long summer as team-mates, with Roberto Martinez’s men chasing a first-ever major tournament win, Atletico Madrid star Carrasco couldn’t resist poking fun of his pal.
And as Real Madrid’s Hazard sat down for a televised interview, Carrasco stormed the set, got right up in his face and chanted: “Campeones, campeones, ole, ole, ole…”
Clearly a bit miffed, the Real Madrid star recoiled and eventually forced a smile – but his furious eyes gave away his real feelings.
Flipping from French to Spanish, Hazard begrudgingly mumbled: “Very good, very good. Congratulations, friend, incredible.”

    EVENING ENTERTAINMENT
Lots of footy to keep you interested if you’re staying in this Friday night.
Portugal host Spain for a fascinating pre-Euros friendly (6.30pm) Italy take on Czech Republic at 7.45pm.
Group B minnows Finland are in action versus Estonia at 5pm while Cameroon face Nigeria in Vienna (7.30pm).
And Wales’ Under-21s face Moldova in a European qualifier at 7.30pm.
    TAA REACTION
Trent Alexander-Arnold has posted on Instagram that he is ‘absolutely gutted’ to be out of Euro 2020.
Having fought so hard to get back into the England squad, the Liverpool defender is out for six weeks after tearing a muscle in the friendly against Austria.

    CRAZY CROAT
Marcelo Brozovic is preparing to fire Croatia to success against England and Scotland in Group D.
How is the Inter Milan midfielder preparing for the Euros? A spot of tree climbing. Because, obviously…

    CILLESSEN FURY
Jasper Cillessen has hit out at Netherlands boss Frank de Boer after he dropped the Valencia goalkeeper from his Euro 2020 squad following a positive Covid test.
He told De Telegraaf: “De Boer knew then that I had tested positive. He then said in Portugal on Sunday that I would join the group immediately if the result of my daily rapid test was negative.
“If necessary, I would only join after the training camp. I really have no idea what has changed.
“The rules allow substitutes for goalkeepers during the tournament and there was still plenty of time.
“I had Covid symptoms for a day, but otherwise zero problems. And then they say I’m not fit? The national coach and I will never agree on that.
“I have never felt so powerless, angry, and terrible.”
    WAN TO WATCH
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has spoken of how he can improve after missing out on England’s Euro 2020 squad.
The Three Lions’ embarrassment of right-back riches has made the Manchester United defender to wait for his chance.
He told the club website: “Every game, every step, that’s how I take it, to improve and push myself throughout.
“I feel I’ve done okay. I can feel it in myself, the confidence and excitement of when every game comes up. You want to play, you can’t wait to get the game started. You know what the team’s capable of, the performances we can all put together to get the result we want.”
“My goal was a good feeling. I’ll never forget that. That’s the good moment out of this campaign, for me.”

    DUFF PREDICTION
Former Ireland winger Damien Duff has outlined how England could be heading out of Euro 2020 in quick fashion.
Tipping France to win the tournament, the ex-Chelsea star told RTE: “They play Croatia first. Croatia could do them.
“And Scotland – close to my heart – Scotland could put England out in the second game. They’ve a good solid squad. They’ve a lot of Celtic players who are really well coached, top players.
“The Scots are not going to go and take the game to teams, they’re going to sit back and frustrate.
“They’ll do that with England. Maybe, I’m a dreamer but the second game, England could be out and Scotland could go through.”
    VAR-CICAL
Wales’ decision to agree to the unexpected use of VAR in France backfired as their Euro 2020 preparations took a hit, writes Phil Cadden.
Neco Williams was controversially sent off by Luis Godinho for deliberate handball in the first half of the 3-0 friendly defeat in Nice following the technology check.
It was the first time VAR had been used at a Wales game and, although it will be used at this month’s Euro finals, the decision was left up to the individual federations on its operation in friendlies.
SunSport asked Wales boss Page about the use of VAR in friendlies and he replied: “The decision was more of a surprise to me, not whether we had VAR or not.”
England and Austria opted against the use of VAR and Gareth Southgate was left relieved when defender Tyrone Mings escaped any action for his forearm smash on Austria striker Sasa Kalajdzic.
But Liverpool defender Williams was not so lucky and is set to miss Saturday’s final Euro 2020 friendly against Albania in Cardiff despite Wales’ plans to appeal.

    BAKU BOOST
Welsh fans travelling to Azerbaijan will NOT have to quarantine upon arrival in Baku.
State officials have confirmed that a match ticket and negative coronavirus test will give travellers freedom in the country, alongside the typical pandemic restrictions.
Elkhan Mammadov, Executive Vice President at AFFA, said: “We are excited to welcome fans from the nations involved in our Euro 2020 host fixtures and have made a sensible plan to ensure those who wish to come can enjoy Baku, confident of a safe experience in our wonderful city.”
Wales face Switzerland and Turkey at the Olympic Stadium, which hosts another Group A game and a quarter-final.
    READY FOR ACTION
Could these two lead England to Euros glory?

    IT’S COMING HOME
The European Championship trophy has today arrived at London’s King’s Cross as it nears the end of its pre-tournament tour.
The piece of silverware will then journey to Wembley Stadium, where the final will be held.
London will feature several Euro 2020 nods in the coming weeks including legendary commentator John Motson on Tube announcements at five stations, and special artworks.
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “As a huge football fan, I can’t wait for Euro 2020 to begin and the arrival of the trophy in our city is an exciting reminder that there’s only one week to go until the tournament kicks off.”

    LAST NIGHT’S FRIENDLIES
Belgium stuttered in their Euro 2020 preparation last night, drawing 1-1 with Greece despite Thorgan Hazard’s opener.
But there were no such issues for Turkey or Ukraine, who dispatched Moldova 2-0 and Northern Ireland 1-0 respectively.
And Switzerland put seven past Lichtenstein ahead of their Group A campaign – thanks to a hat-trick for Mario Gavranovic.

    TEAM IN FOCUS
Czech Republic are the forgotten members of Group D.
Kicking off against Scotland at Hampden Park on June 14, Jaroslav Silhavy’s team are ranked 40th in the world and have never missed a Euros since breaking off from Czechoslovakia in the 1990s.
And they are no pushover either, reaching the latter stages three times since then. Let’s take a closer look…

    GOOD MORNING FOOTBALL FANS
Trent Alexander-Arnold has been ruled out of Euro 2020 and will depart England’s camp on Thursday night.
A medical assessment earlier in the day revealed that the Liverpool defender, 22, had suffered a grade two quad tear during England’s 1-0 friendly win over Austria.
The scan confirmed the devastated defender’s worst fears and he will now withdraw from England’s squad for the tournament. He faces a recovery period of between four to six weeks.
In other England injury news, former Three Lions striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has criticised Jordan Henderson’s failure to step aside from the Euro 2020 squad due to his current injury situation.
He told talkSPORT: “He should just be honest with the manager now and say: ‘You know what, I am struggling here. I’m a leader and a captain in myself, I’ll do the right thing for the squad’.
“Bring in whoever you have to bring in as another central midfielder because this injury is playing up now. I think [Henderson] is being selfish.”
Elsewhere, Sven Goran Eriksson believes that Jesse Lingard should have been included in the 26-man England squad for the upcoming European Championships.
I didn’t see him play every game, but the games I saw he has been very good.”
    VER-Y CLOSE TO RETURN
Italy are confident that Marco Verratti will be able to feature in Euro 2020 after including him in the final squad list for the tournament.
Ahead of Italy’s upcoming international friendly fixture against the Czech Republic, Mancini provided another key update regarding Verratti’s notable injury.
As quoted by FIGC’s official website, he said: “Marco Verratti is making giant strides. We will assess the situation next week.”
Verratti will have to accelerate his injury recovery process if he aspires to feature in Italy’s opening Euro 2020 group stage fixture against Turkey next week.
If he is unable to go for this match, Italy team officials will then look towards its fixture against Switzerland to see whether Verratti will be able to finally make his tournament debut.
    NOT TRENT TO BE
Trent Alexander-Arnold has been ruled out of Euro 2020 and will depart England’s camp on Thursday night.
Southgate is expected to call up an additional player to replace Alexander-Arnold in England’s 26-man squad.
Jesse Lingard, James Ward-Prowse, Ollie Watkins, Aaron Ramsdale, Ben Godfrey and Ben White were all cut from England’s Euro 2020 squad earlier this week.

Records Ronaldo could break at EURO 2020
    Most finals campaigns
Seventeen men have appeared in four EURO tournaments, beginning with Lothar Matthäus and Peter Schmeichel back in 2000.
Ronaldo is among them and he will strike out alone if he features this summer. He is the last man standing of the 11 who notched up number four in 2016.
    Most finals goals
Ronaldo marked his EURO debut against Greece on 12 June 2004 with a goal – his first for Portugal! – and has since registered eight more across 21 finals appearances.
A tally of nine means he heads into UEFA EURO 2020 level with France’s Michel Platini, whose goals all came at EURO ’84.
    Most appearances (including qualifying)
Ronaldo needs three more appearances to surpass Gianluigi Buffon’s all-time high of 58 appearances in EURO competition, qualifying and finals – the 36-year-old could end the tournament on 63 matches.
His 56 to date have resulted in 36 wins, 12 draws and eight defeats.
58 Gianluigi Buffon (Italy)56 Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)51 Mario Frick (Liechtenstein)
    Oldest scorer in a final
Just one player aged over 30 has scored in a EURO final.
Bernd Hölzenbein was 30 years and 103 days old when he headed West Germany’s late equaliser against Czechoslovakia in 1976 to prompt extra time and, ultimately, a penalty shoot-out win.
Ronaldo will be aged 36 years and 156 days on 11 July, date of the EURO 2020 decider.

    ‘SELFISH’
Former England striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has criticised Jordan Henderson’s failure to step aside from the Euro 2020 squad due to his current injury situation.
The Liverpool skipper has not played since mid-February after picking up a groin problem, but was one of several recovering players named in England’s final 26-man group by Gareth Southgate on Tuesday afternoon.
He told talkSPORT: “The thing that is really winding me up is the Henderson thing.
“He should just be honest with the manager now and say: ‘You know what, I am struggling here. I’m a leader and a captain in myself, I’ll do the right thing for the squad’.
“Bring in whoever you have to bring in as another central midfielder because this injury is playing up now. I think [Henderson] is being selfish.
“If you look at it, the squad has been announced and he told Southgate he is not fit. They said the scans have come back and they’re fine, but he knows himself that there is a niggle he is feeling.
“The tournament starts in ten days, you are playing against Croatia, playing against a good team. You need to be at it, you need a training session before the game, you need some games in you.”

F1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix LIVE: FP2 latest updates as Hamilton and Verstappen get used to the course in Baku

LEWIS HAMILTON and Max Verstappen head to Azerbaijan as they do battle again in an enthralling F1 campaign.Hamilton had been in control of the championship but slipped behind Verstappen after a seventh placed finish in Monaco.
Get all the latest F1 updates from Baku here…
    F1 CHIEFS’ WING WATCH
Red Bull’s ‘flexi-wing’ at the back of their car will be monitored by F1 bosses this weekend ahead of a potential ban.
Mercedes are concerned their rivals are gaining an unfair advantage by having a rear wing that drops down to reduce drag on the straights.
Max Verstappen has dismissed complaints as jealously.
He stated: “I can understand people complaining… but it’s all within the rules so far. There’s nothing wrong with it.
“Of course, they try to slow us down.”
But Lewis Hamilton said: “It doesn’t really matter what I think about it, it is what it is. They’re approved based on current testing methods and they’re valid this weekend. So we can’t do much against it.”
    SINGAPORE GP CANCELLED
The Singapore Grand Prix has been called off this year leaving F1 chiefs desperately searching for a new race.
Motor racing bosses are looking at options to replace the event from October 1-3.
Travel complications have put paid to this year’s Singapore Grand Prix
The Marina Bay Street Circuit was due to host round 16 of this year’s championship.
But travel issues to the Asian city state have forced F1 bosses to look elsewhere.
Singapore has kept Covid infections relatively low thanks to their strict border controls and test-and-trace system.
    FOUR FOR LEW FORMATION?
World champ Lewis Hamilton is gunning for his fourth win in the first six grands prix – whilst Max Verstappen hopes to level it at 3-3.

    NO BOTT-ER
Valtteri Bottas has remained coy on his Mercedes future by indicating his focus is on the current season.
Both Bottas, 31, and Lewis Hamilton, 36, have contracts with Mercedes that are due to expire at the end of 2021.
When asked about his future ahead of Friday practice, he said: “I’m quite open minded.
“Like in life in general, you need to always take opportunities and you just never know what is around the corner. And that’s also, having clear goals, what you’re pushing for and that has taken me this far.
“I always want to kind of follow my heart and follow my passion and I am still enjoying Formula One very much and racing at the front. I really, really love it.”
    HAMILTON REACTION
Lewis Hamilton is very calm and matter-of-fact as he speaks after practice, admitting Mercedes have more to do and yet are far from out of it.
He said: “I feel like I’m driving well and the car felt better in FP1.
“We’re definitely quite a chunk down and everyone will be scratching their heads into how we can improve.
    “The long run was better.
“The car is limited, there’s no more grip, but we’ll work at it and I don’t really know why we are where we are.”

    OFF YU POP
Yuki Tsunoda has been ordered to move from Milton Keynes and sent to Italy to get his career back on track.
The 21-year-old has gone in reverse since finishing ninth in his first race of the season and the AlpaTauri man was told to relocate to Faenza to be closer to his team to help his development.
He said: “I got told [to move] while I was in Monaco. When I crashed in FP2 it was not a good thing. And I think Red Bull wasn’t happy after that.
“It’s good to have a little bit of a big change for me, because I think the last three races or four races, I haven’t had good races and to change something, you know, you need [to do things] a bit different.
“I didn’t enjoy last week, but it is what it is. And I think the engineer meeting especially, that makes a very good understanding to the car.
“But mainly the gym session, the time is much, much longer than usual. So hopefully I will not be like a bodybuilder at the end of the year.”
    WHAT WENT WRONG FOR MERCEDES?
Stuck in 11th and 16th would be a panic result for the Mercs at the best of times, but after their Monaco woe this truly is a worrying situation.
Lewis Hamilton had a hot lap ruined by Charles Leclerc but was nowhere near with only slightly older tyres when he got it together.
He complained: “I’m not going to go faster, I don’t know where the time is.”
Meanwhile Valtteri Bottas was simply never able to put in a truly quick time on the Softs, having been nowhere in FP1 too.
It could be a matter of warming up the tyres in time plus a sense that much of the pack has been catching the Mercs up more generally.
Toto Wolff has cancelled his media duties with Sky F1 – no such delays for Christian Horner who jumps straight in front of the cameras.

    CHECO FLAG
It is all smiles for Red Bull and all question marks for Mercedes after second practice in Baku.
Sergio Perez takes first place ahead of Max Verstappen, who have backed up good qualifying simulations with quick race runs.
Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc in the Ferraris are third and fourth, respectively, leaving Lewis Hamilton 11th. Yikes.
    WIDE OF THE MARK
Valtteri Bottas and Yuki Tsunoda go wide to keep our ‘run-off area’ tally ticking over.
Max Verstappen would have joined them had Turn 3 had a run-off area – instead he very nearly drifts into the wall. Five minutes to go.
    Credit: AP
    ‘DONE!’
Nikita Mazepin cracks a joke as he fiddles with his steering wheel under instruction from his Haas team.
Told to do the configurations whenever he is free, the Russian immediately shoots back: “Done!”
He then jokes: “We’re not in Monaco anymore!”
    SCHUMACHER ISSUES
More problems for the Haas as Mick Schumacher slumps back into the pits reporting of issues.
We have 15 minutes of running and race simulations are likely to be the order of the day.
    LECLERC BACK ON TRACK
Those Mercedes woes have kept Ferrari in P3 and P4.
Charles Leclerc is all fixed up after his Turn 15 crash and racing again.
    Credit: AFP
    PAST HALFWAY
We’re into the last 25 minutes of a session best summed up by the phrase higgledy-piggledy.
Max Verstappen has gone second, 0.1 seconds off team-mate Sergio Perez.
Meanwhile, Valtteri Bottas is 16th without a hot lap to speak of and Lewis Hamilton 11th and complaining on the radio.
He says: “I’m not going to go faster, I don’t know where the time is.”
    TAKE TWO
The likes of Lewis Hamilton are back on track pushing in qualifying sims.
However, those Soft tyres are no longer as fresh as they were five minutes ago and lighting them up is difficult.
Hamilton goes eighth and Sergio Perez takes top spot as Pierre Gasly runs wide at Turn 15.
    FRONT ON
Charles Leclerc locked his right-front up and squirted straight into the barrier late on in what was looking a good lap.
Without a front-wing, he reverses out safely and heads back to the pits.
A Virtual Safety Car is ordered and basically everyone else’s hot laps on fresh tyres are ruined…

    IN THE WALL
And that is Charles Leclerc in the barrier at Turn 15!
    LECLERC UPPING THE ANTE
Qualifying simulations are underway and Carlos Sainz leads Charles Leclerc in a Ferrari one-two that is likely to change as new sets of the Softs are bolted on.
    BACK UNDERWAY
Nicholas Latifi’s car sounded like a Viking God rudely awoken from a lie-in as it broke down for that red flag.
It’s now been moved off the track and, with 41 minutes to go, practice has resumed.

    WILLIAMS WOE
Still 45 minutes left in the session – and the clock will keep ticking while the car is recovered.
But that may not be a quick fix for Williams, who need all the track time they can get in the hunt for a championship point.
    RED FLAG
We have a stoppage after Nicholas Latifi ran out of engine.
The Canadian’s Williams dribbles into a run-off area, manages to reverse out, and then comes to a halt on track.
    FERRARI FURY
Nikita Mazepin and Carlos Sainz jostle for position on the main straight.
The Russian complains over the radio that he is being blamed for not getting out of the way while nobody gets out of his way.
    THAT DIDN’T TAKE LONG
Speak of the devil… The run-off area at Turn 1 is made use of by Valtteri Bottas.
The Finn, whose plane to Azerbaijan refused to take off until late last night, runs wide and pulls out of a lap before it really begins.
Lando Norris runs wide shortly after before Sebastian Vettel enjoys a tank-slapper at Turn 16.
    WHAT’S IN STORE THIS HOUR?
Expect plenty more traffic problems and darts into the run-off areas, if FP1 is anything to go by.
Drivers have largely kept it out of the wall so far but any street circuit is vulnerable to some concrete disruption.
We will also see some practice race runs as cars fill up on fuel and put in an extended run of laps, plus a few hot lap attempts on the Soft tyre.
    LIGHTS OUT
Free practice 2 is underway. Let’s do this!

After an entertaining first half, both teams went back to the dressing room with an even scoreline but the second half lacked the same energy and tempo.

    RIP ALAN
Former Arsenal and West Brom goalkeeper Alan Miller has sadly died at the age of 51.
His ex-team-mate Lee Dixon tweeted: “Devastated to hear the news that our team mate Alan Miller has passed away
“He was one of life’s good guys. What a man. Heart of gold. RIP my friend.”
    NO HAA-RD FEELINGS
Kylian Mbappe has revealed he is ‘happy’ to watch Erling Haaland’s meteoric rise to superstardom, comparing their budding rivalry to that of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
But with Borussia Dortmund striker Haaland now on the scene, Mbappe knows he has competition for the modern-day GOAT crown.
Mbappe has won NINE major honours at PSG as well as helping lead France to the 2018 World Cup, while Haaland has won just four trophies.
But the Norwegian boasts a jaw-dropping minutes per goal ratio of 84, to Mbappe’s slightly lesser 94.
Mbappe told Esquire: “It’s his second year, we’re getting to know him.
“It’s the start for him. I’m happy for him, for what he’s doing.
“You do always compare yourself with the best in your sport, just as the baker compares himself with the best bakers around him
“I watch matches of other great players to see what they’re doing. [I think] ‘I know how to do this, but can the other guy do it too?’”
    GUNNER STAY
Arsenal reportedly remain fully confident Emile Smith Rowe will pen a new deal at the Emirates despite reported interest from Aston Villa.
With his current contract to expire in 2023, it has been claimed that the North Londoners are keen to hand him a new five-year deal.
But shock rumours have stated that Villa are looking to lure him to the Midlands.
However Football.London have played down the chances of Dean Smith’s side securing his services.
And they have insisted that Arsenal remain confident that Smith Rowe will commit his long-term future to the club.
His contract renewal is said to be a priority for Arsenal’s head of football operations Richard Garlick.

    FINE TOOTH KOEM
Barcelona have confirmed that Ronald Koeman will remain as their boss despite his poor debut season in Spain.
Barca ended up finishing third in LaLiga, seven points off champions Atletico Madrid.
They also suffered a humiliating 5-2 aggregate defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16 of the Champions League.
And despite leading Barca to glory in the Copa del Rey with a 4-0 win over Athletic Bilbao in the final, reports claimed Koeman could be heading out of the Nou Camp.
Club president Joan Laporta said last month he was ‘evaluating’ Koeman’s position.
However, Laporta has now confirmed Koeman will stay for at least one more year, with his contract expiring next summer.

    COMMUNITY SPIRIT
The Community Shield will be broadcast on free-to-air TV for the first time in nine years with ITV to show Manchester City’s match against Leicester.
Premier League champions City take on FA Cup holders Leicester at Wembley on August 7.
The encounter between the two teams will take place a week before the start of the 2021-22 top-flight campaign, with the kick-off scheduled for 5pm.
BT Sport have held the rights for the traditional season curtain-raiser since 2013, but they surrendered them two years ago, along with the FA Cup rights.
The last time the Community Shield was shown on terrestrial TV was in 2012 where the Citizens beat Chelsea 3-2 at Villa Park.

    BUEN BATTLE
Arsenal and Aston Villa have made official bids for Norwich’s £40million-rated winger Emi Buendia.
Both clubs, who are offering packages worth £30m-plus, are now locked in a major fight for the Argentine winger who is now certain to leave Carrow Road.
But Norwich, who do not need to sell financially, are playing hard ball and insist they want £40m for the Championship player of the year.
Arsenal started watching him this season but made no attempts to sign the player in January.
Yet now they have found the money for Buendia, who has just been called into the Argentine national squad for the first time.
But Villa are also looking for another attacker and believe he would be a massive boost to Dean Smith’s side.

    LORD HAVE MERSEY
Liverpool legends Steven Gerrard and Rafa Benitez are reportedly on Everton’s shortlist to replace Carlo Ancelotti.
The Athletic claims Toffees chiefs are exploring numerous options as they hunt for a new boss.
It is believed Gerrard has caught Everton’s eye after his incredible season with Rangers.
The Glasgow outfit stormed to the Scottish title with an unbeaten campaign.
Likewise, Benitez has also made Everton’s list despite being regarded as a Liverpool legend for winning the Champions League in 2005.
But there are a host of other names on their shortlist, including former managers David Moyes and Roberto Martinez, as well as Nuno Espirito Santo and Ajax chief Erik ten Hag.

    CON ARTIST
Tottenham are closing in on Antonio Conte after hitting a brick wall in their bid to bring back ex-boss Mauricio Pochettino.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has been battling to seal Poch’s return from Paris Saint-Germain after he told them he wanted to return to N17.
But with the Argentinean so far unable to engineer his exit from the French giants and less than a month to go before the North Londoners start pre-season training, Levy is edging closer to appointing Conte.
The Spurs supremo, searching for a new manager since axing Jose Mourinho in April, is believed to want a new man in charge by the end of next week.
He is said to be lining up one last push for Pochettino, but if that fails he will be forced to look elsewhere, with Conte the favourite to come in.
Levy has been in talks with the former Chelsea chief, who is a free agent after leaving Inter Milan last month.

    NOT TRENT TO BE
Trent Alexander-Arnold has been ruled out of Euro 2020 and will depart England’s camp on Thursday night.

    OUT IN THE COL’D
James Rodriguez has long been regarded as Colombia’s most valuable player, but this summer, the Everton midfielder has been deemed surplus to requirements.
Colombia are taking part in this summer’s Copa America tournament, but will be without star player Rodriguez, who has had injury problems with Everton throughout the course of the season.
The former Real Madrid star, however, worked his way into a position to be fit for this summer’s tournament, but boss Rueda still didn’t fancy taking Rodriguez.
A statement read: “The coaching staff of the Colombia Men’s Senior Team reports that the player James Rodríguez has been called off for the games against Peru and Argentina for the qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and the CONMEBOL Copa América 2021.
“In recent days, the midfielder was subjected to medical examinations, which determined that he is not at the optimal level of competition, therefore, he will not be able to join the group called by Reinaldo Rueda for the aforementioned commitments and the South American championship.”

    WIL I NEVER
Wilfried Zaha has reportedly told Crystal Palace he wants to leave.
And the former Manchester United star hopes to secure a transfer this MONTH.
The Times claims Zaha, 28, is ready to quit Selhurst Park following Roy Hodgson’s departure.
The Ivory Coast international already tried to leave the Eagles in 2019 amid interest from Arsenal and Everton.
But neither side was willing to meet Palace’s mind-blowing £100million valuation.
However, Zaha – who has just two years remaining on his contract – is now ready to call time on his Eagles adventure for good.
Everton are reportedly interested in a £40m deal, while Tottenham are also said to be keen.

    CASH & BERN
Bernardo Silva is set to become a shock casualty of Manchester City’s summer rebuild, according to reports.
City have since been linked with Harry Kane, Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe to fill the void left by Sergio Aguero.
But each of the superstar strikers are set to cost in excess of £150million.
And City could first be forced to sell some big players to raise funds, with Silva a surprise name set to be floated on the transfer market, say The Telegraph.
The report claims clubs in Spain, France and Italy have already expressed an interest in the £60m-rated midfielder.
Barcelona were once keen on Bernardo, but their interest has cooled with a host of attacking options already on their books.
Silva still has FOUR years left to run on his contract and would likely command a huge transfer fee.

    GUNNERS GONERS
Arsenal have confirmed that NINE players will leave the club when their contracts expire later this month.
David Luiz and Martin Odegaard lead the names departing the Emirates as Mikel Arteta seeks an epic summer rebuild after missing out on European football.
Joining Luiz and Odegaard on the axed list are fellow senior squad members Dani Ceballos and Mat Ryan.
There are exits in the youth set-up too, with Levi Laing, Joseph Olowu, Luke Plange and Jason Sraha leaving.
Arsenal were reportedly keen on signing Odegaard permanently.
But he could now form part of Carlo Ancelotti’s plans after the Italian sealed a sensational return to Spain this week.

    ON RED ALERT
Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Manchester United have gone past Liverpool – despite the ‘excuses’ the Reds had last season.
The former Red Devils defender also believes that Old Gunnar Solskjaer will be pleased with the progress shown by the club’s second-placed finish.
United finished five points ahead of Liverpool – a vast improvement on the season before when they finished 33 points behind their rivals.
When asked for his assessment of United’s season, Ferdinand told Goal: “I think in the league we’ve got what we wanted, which was an improvement.
“I think Man United at the end of last season finished 30-odd points behind Liverpool.
“Liverpool are now behind us and they’ll have their excuses and reasons why but the cold facts are that we have gained that much ground on them that we’ve gone past them this season.
“That shows vast improvement and we’re second in the league.
“By no means are we the finished article but I think at the beginning of the season if you’d said you’d finish second in the league from where we were I think they’d have snapped your hand off.”

    GOING, GOING, RON
Paris Saint-Germain are in talks with Cristiano Ronaldo over a sensational summer transfer – with the Juventus star ‘welcoming’ the approach, according to reports.
The Portuguese forward’s time at Juventus appears to be up after a disappointing season for the Turin giants.
Ronaldo, 36, now looks destined to leave with Real Madrid and Manchester United both linked with the star forward.
The 173-cap Portugal legend’s club team-mates are believed to have ‘abandoned’ him after growing tired of the ‘perks’ his receives.
And Ronaldo is now claimed to have been approached by PSG in what could spark a summer transfer merry-go-round, according to AS.
The Spanish outlet have also revealed Ronaldo ‘welcomes’ the approach from the Ligue 1 giants.

    KANE & STABLE
Antonio Conte will reportedly only join Tottenham if Harry Kane stays at the club, reports say.
The Italian boss, 51, is in talks to take over in North London after leaving Inter Milan.
And The Times report that retaining Kane’s services could be key to Spurs’ hopes of landing Conte.
Kane, 27, is wanted by both Manchester clubs and Chelsea after revealing he wants to leave Spurs to win trophies.
The Times report adds that Conte will want to be backed with funds in the transfer market if he’s to move to North London.
Meanwhile, respected Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano says Tottenham and Conte are around £2.6million apart in salary expectations.

    EMI NOD
Aston Villa are interested in signing playmakers Emile Smith Rowe and Emi Buendia, according to reports.
The Premier League side could face a busy summer in the transfer market as captain Jack Grealish has been linked with a number of clubs.
According to The Telegraph, Villa are keeping tabs on Arsenal youngster Smith Rowe.
The 20-year-old has made an impressive start to his professional career, making 20 Premier League appearances this term.
But he is yet to commit his future to the Gunners and has just two years left on his existing deal at the Emirates.
Reports also suggest Dean Smith’s side are keen on Norwich midfielder Emi Buendia.
Arsenal are targeting Emi x Emi this summer
    BEND OF THE ROAD
Nicklas Bendtner has opened the door to a potential Arsenal return – as a MANAGER.
The former forward , who retired earlier today, said: “I miss football every day, but I’m well aware there is a cut-off date in this job.
“I’m going to have to spend time understanding that it’s really over now.
“I have to find something else to care about, and find something to give me what football has given me all these years.
“I’ve been playing football all my life, and it just stops overnight. Suddenly I’m outside the game, and I want to do a lot of things.
“But this has not been possible because of the coronavirus pandemic.
“The rush you get from being inside a stadium is impossible to get anywhere else.
“Football is such a big part of my life that I can’t step away from it.
“That is why I am taking coaching courses. I hope this can give me as much, or maybe even more, than I got from being a player.
“In this way I still want to be part of football.”
Nicklas Bendtner could return to Arsenal one day… as boss
    SON BURNED
Son Heung-min hit out after being grilled over Tottenham team-mate Harry Kane’s future.
The South Korean forward insisted the pair are both only focused on international duty – with Kane set to skipper England at Euro 2020.
The Spurs striker, 27, has been linked with a £150m move to Man Utd or Man City in a bid to win trophies.
And if Kane leaves North London this summer it would end a brilliant partnership with Son – who he broke a record with in March when they combined for a 14th goal of the season.
But Son, 28, was in no mood to discuss Kane’s potential transfer when asked by reporters while on international duty.
He snapped back: “Has Kane moved already?
“Everything is not decided. Rather than worrying about his transfer, I am doing my best at Tottenham.
“I want to focus on the national team and Tottenham. Maybe Kane is doing the same, he is busy preparing for the Euros.”
Son and Kane have a terrific partnership up top
    LUC RUN OUT
Manchester United and Chelsea have missed out on the chance to sign Lucas Vazquez after he signed a new, three-year contract at Real Madrid.
The versatile Los Blancos ace, 29, had been a top target of both Premier League giants this summer.
But Real Madrid have confirmed the Spanish forward has put pen to paper on a new long-term contract at the Bernabeu.
A club statement read: “Real Madrid CF and Lucas Vázquez have agreed to extend the player’s contract.
“He will remain linked to the club for the next three seasons, until June 30, 2024.”

    FOR GOODNESS SAK
    By SunSport’s Duncan Wright
Bukayo Saka admits being England’s Mr Versatile can get tough – despite shining for the Three Lions and firing them to victory over Austria.
Saka, 19, scored his first senior international goal to seal the win and stake a claim for involvement when the Euros start next weekend.
The Arsenal star also ended up playing in three different positions to suit Gareth Southgate’s tactics and substitutions at the Riverside, to show just how capable he is as a footballer.
But the teenager admits constantly switching roles can cause problems and he needs the help of senior players to make sure he stays switched on.
Saka said: “It’s not easy all the time, you know.
“The information I get from the coaching staff and the players  makes things much easier – all the communication from the more experienced players around me like Kieron Trippier, Conor Coady, Tyrone Mings, making sure I’m where I need to be.”
“I feel like anytime I played for England I really enjoyed myself because of the quality and the top players you have around.
“Things feel good, things flow, I always feel like I can I can express myself and I think I did that.
“I can learn a bit from everyone, there’s so much different quality players especially in attack but even in the midfield and defence you know there’s so much experience I can take from everyone to try to speak to everyone and get some advice from them.”

    RAF RACE
Chelsea have entered the race to sign £70million-rated Inter Milan star Achraf Hakimi, according to reports.
The Serie A champions are actively looking to sell one of their big-name stars this summer to raise some much-needed money.
The decision played a pivotal role in Antonio Conte quitting the San Siro – with the Italian now linked with the top job at Tottenham.
Hakimi, 22, appears to be the man on the way out, with Paris Saint-Germain having already launched a £52m bid.
The Ligue 1 giants’ first attempt was swiftly knocked back by Inter, with the Italian champions holding out for bids of around £70m.
Arsenal have already expressed an interest as they hunt for a new right-back, with Hector Bellerin – the club’s longest-serving player – expected to leave this summer.
And now Chelsea have joined the hunt for Hakimi, according to Sky Italia.

    GUNNER JOIN?
Arsenal are in talks to hire ex-Lille sporting director Luis Campos, according to reports.
The talent spotter, who is also believed to be wanted by Real Madrid, was director of football at Monaco when Kylian Mbappe was discovered.
According to journalist Loic Tanzi, Campos will not join Nice following weeks of speculation.
Both Arsenal and Real Madrid are now believed to be interested in acquiring the 56-year-old’s services, although it is unclear if he will be hired as a director of football or scout.

    ME AND ROUD FOREVER
AC Milan are on the verge of snapping up former Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, according to reports in Italy.
The free agent was set to leave Chelsea last summer before hitting form and earning a new deal.
This season, he has largely been restricted to the bench aside from a seven-goal December and last started a game for Thomas Tuchel in March.
With his contract up at the end of the month, Giroud is free to negotiate a free transfer away from Chelsea with several clubs reportedly interested.
But Serie A side Milan have won the race, as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Negotiations with Rossoneri legend and technical director Paolo Maldini are described as going well and an agreement is within sight.
The opportunity to remain in the Champions League while experiencing Italian football is said to be high on Giroud’s wishlist.
Also useful is a significant tax cut which the Frenchman will receive on his rumoured two-year, £65,000-a-week contract.
Giroud is said to be excited by the prospect of playing alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who enjoyed a stunning start to last season before encountering injury problems.

    BENTEK-STAY
    By SunSport’s Duncan Wright
Christian Benteke has signed a new two-year deal with Crystal Palace after finally establishing himself as first choice striker at the club.
Benteke, 30, has suffered a nightmare with injuries since Palace splashed out a club-record £27million to sign him from Liverpool five years ago and struggled to live up to his price tag.
But the Belgian international was at last able to stay fit for an extended run last season and responded by scoring ten goals in 30 appearances for the Eagles.
That has persuaded the managerless South London club to tie him down for two more years.
Benteke said: “I’m happy and proud to commit my future to Crystal Palace. Five years already and still a lot more to come.
“We have a great group of players and staff, and I’m looking forward to the season ahead and playing in front of our fans again.”
Palace chairman Steve Parish added: “Christian has been an integral part of consolidating our position as an established Premier League club over the last five years.
“He is an outstanding professional and has more than proven that he still has the quality and the hunger to perform for our club at the highest level, and I couldn’t be happier to see him in red and blue for another two seasons.”
