    UNMASKED
Paulo Fonseca is expected to be announced as the new manager at Spurs, and fans can expect a swashbuckling ride next season.
The former Roma boss, 48, is reportedly close to being confirmed as the new Tottenham manager.
As a kid, the Portuguese coach admittedly grew up in poverty in Mozambique, Africa.
His hero was the masked movie hero Zorro, who a young Fonseca would dress up as as a kid.
In 2017, he once appeared in the character’s costume at a press conference while in charge of Shakhtar Donetsk.
A year later, he married the love of his life – Katerina Ostroushko – who is 18 years his junior.

    EURO 2020: FINLAND 0-1 RUSSIA
Russia picked up an important victory against Finland at the Saint Petersburg Stadium.
The Finnish national team thought they got the lead in the opening minutes when Jukka Raitala dispossessed Igor Diveev at the right flank and delivered a stunning cross to Joel Pohjanpalo.
Pohjanpalo headed the ball past Matvei Safonov but was caught just an inch offside by VAR.
Russia got unlucky soon after as they lost Mario Fernandes to what appeared to be a back injury.
But Stanislav Cherchesov’s men created plenty of chances and finally broke the deadlock in the second minute of stoppage time.
Aleksey Miranchuk danced around Finland’s defence and passed to Artem Dzyuba who then set his team-mate up in the area for a stunning curling shot that beat Lukas Hradecky.
Russia had chances to seal the win in the second half with Aleksandr Golovin and Rifat Zhemaletdinov but they both just missed the target.

    JUVE DONE IT BEFORE!
Cristiano Ronaldo shunned fizzy drinks giant Coca-Cola by moving bottles off-screen and telling fans to drink water – but the footballer has made millions from advertising ‘unhealthy products’ in the past.
The Portuguese star’s stunt at a press conference, ahead of his team’s 3-0 Euros victory against Hungary, cost the brand $4billion (£2.8bn).
The share price for Coca-Cola, which is one of the competition’s sponsors, dropped from $56.10 to $55.22 – lowering their market value from $242bn to $238bn.
While the 36-year-old footballer is known to be a health fanatic, in the past he’s lent his name, image and support to junk food and fizzy drink companies in the past.
Sponsorship deals have helped to top up the £28million-a-year Juventus salary by hundreds of millions.
Ronaldo’s recent Coca-Cola swipe comes in spite of him promoting countless products, which according to Forbes made him football’s first billionaire.

    BRIGHT IDEA
Brighton have reportedly rejected a £40million bid from Arsenal for defender Ben White.
Sky Sports claims the Gunners launched their ambitious offer on Wednesday for Graham Potter’s England star.
But Brighton rejected the offer after reportedly slapping White with a £50m price-tag following his Euros call-up.
However, it’s added that Arsenal remain undeterred and are expected to return with an improved offer.

    MORE ON SMITH ROWE
Arsenal have rejected a £25million offer from Aston Villa for Emile Smith Rowe.
The 20-year-old has burst onto the scene this season with the North London side but is currently discussing a new contract with the club.
His current deal runs in June 2023 – and Villa were hoping to pounce on the uncertainty over his future.
They submitted their bid to Arsenal earlier, however, Mikel Arteta’s side instantly rejected it.
Negotiations over an extension began in April with Arteta keen to secure his long-term future as swiftly as possible.
Smith Rowe is a product of Arsenal’s Hale End academy and joined them aged 10.
    ROWE YOUR BOAT
Arsenal have batted away Aston Villa’s efforts to land Emile Smith Rowe on the cheap with the Gunners still trying to secure the youngster’s future.

    AMPED UP
Exclusive by Chisanga Malata: Ethan Ampadu had a winner’s mentality long before he hit the big time with Chelsea and Euro 2020 contenders Wales.
Former Stoke Hill coach David Evans told SunSport: “He used to play for us in the summer tournaments.
“And then all of sudden, there’d be a penalty shootout in the semi-final and if you win it, you’re in the final and if you lose it, you’re going home.
“And I remember seeing him in tears after we lost a penalty shootout.
“Playing in local football was Ethan’s first introduction to winning and losing and being competitive.”
    LET’S NIC HIM
Brighton are eyeing a move for Argentine hotshot Nicolas Gonzalez.
Signing a new striker is Albion’s priority this summer and they hold a long-standing interest in the £25million-rated Stuttgart forward.
But Graham Potter’s side face competition from Italian outfit Fiorentina.
Brighton may have to break their club-record for a transfer fee – which is currently the £20m they shelled out for Adam Webster to land the 23-year-old.
Versatile Gonzalez can play across the forward line and was used largely on the left-hand side of the attack for Stuttgart last season.
He managed six goals in 15 Bundesliga appearances, but has been sidelined since February with a muscular tear.

    BELLI RUB
Deals for Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland could intertwine in a busy summer for Chelsea, according to reports.
The Blues are long-term admirers of the Borussia Dortmund pair and tried to sign Bellingham, 17, before he moved to Germany.
That interest has not gone away following his quick adaptation to playing for one of the Bundesliga’s top clubs.
But the Blues will have to tread carefully in dealing with Dortmund, in the knowledge that they also hold the key to the future of Haaland.
As reported by Goal, Chelsea hope a good relationship can be struck up with the German team.
If they can find a mutually-beneficial route to signing Haaland, there is said to be optimism that Borussia will be more open to doing a deal for Bellingham further down the road.

    ARN-OUT-OVIC
Marko Arnautovichas been slapped with a one-match BAN for ‘insulting’ celebration during the Euro 2020 win over North Macedonia.
The former West Ham star, 32, scored his side’s third goal in the 89th minute to kill off the game – won 3-1 by Austria.
Arnautovic was held back by David Alaba as he celebrated wildly.
After the game, furious North Macedonia players claimed Arnautovic had racially abused them, insisting the player had directed ‘insults’ at Ezgjan Alioski and Egzon Bejtulai – two players with Albanian roots.
Arnautovic is an ethnic Serb, a country that does not recognise the former Yugoslav state as an independent nation.
North Macedonia released a scathing statement ‘demanding the harshest punishment’, while Arnautovic denied any racism.
After an investigation, Uefa have decided to ban Arnautovic for one game – Thursday night’s clash with Holland.
    TAM SANDWICHED
Chelsea have launched a bid of £60million AND Tammy Abraham for Erling Haaland, according to reports.
The Blues are one of a number of teams chasing the Borussia Dortmund striker this summer.
They are seeking to move ahead of the pack, by making their move early.
According to Italian reporter Ekrem Konur, Chelsea have opened the bidding at £60m and Abraham in a player-plus-cash deal.
Dortmund have so far been determined to hold out for a bumper £150m fee this summer.
But the prospect of signing a replacement in Abraham, while receiving a similar fee to what they’d make when his £68m release clause becomes active next season, may be an attractive proposition.
    MAD FOR HIM
Arsenal are reportedly eyeing up a shock move for Leicester playmaker James Maddison as a replacement for Martin Odegaard.
Mikel Arteta had been keen to permanently sign the Norway international, but it is understood he will be remaining at Real Madrid.
And the Gunners then lost out to Aston Villa in the race to prise Emiliano Buedia away from Norwich.
But according to reputable news source The AFC Bell, the North London giants have England midfielder Maddison in their sights.
They state that the 24-year-old has emerged as a key target and a move to the Emirates cannot be ruled out this transfer window.
And Football.London journalist Chris Wheatley has confirmed that the ex-Canaries ace is indeed being monitored by Arsenal.
He even suggested that Chelsea could join the race to sign him should Hakim Ziyech depart Stamford Bridge after just one year.

    EUR THE BEST
England stars Harry Kane and Jadon Sancho both make the most valuable Euro 2020 XI.
Sancho – a summer transfer target for Manchester United – is currently worth a sensational £86m.
Dortmund are looking to recoup that to the final penny, with United’s first bid of the year £11m short, at £75m.
But his £86m tag is enough for Sancho to make it into the Euro 2020 most valuable team worth €1.04BILLION (£890m) at right midfield.
On the opposite wing, France star Kylian Mbappe is the priciest star, valued at £137m.
The rest of the midfield is made up of Belgium star Kevin de Bruyne (£86m), Germany ace Joshua Kimmich and Holland’s Frenkie de Jong (both £77m).

    MORE FROM LINEKER
The BBC presenter moved to explain why the Beeb aired distressing images of Christian Eriksen’s collapse rather than cutting to the studio.
He told the Times: “The Uefa broadcast feed cut into a couple of images that we never would have.
“While it’s happening, it’s easy to be critical. In an ideal world we wouldn’t have had a couple of those images for sure, which is why I came back with some apologetic words. But it was a very difficult half-hour.”
    LINEKER ON ERIKSEN
The former England star was lead anchor for BBC when Christian Eriksen collapsed during Denmark’s 1-0 defeat to Finland.
He told the Times: “Our reaction was the same as anyone at home. Shock, and it felt quite traumatic.”
“I honestly suspected at one point we had lost him because they were suddenly putting screens up. ‘Oh my goodness.’
“I was working the day that Fabrice Muamba had his collapse [playing for Bolton Wanderers away to Tottenham Hotspur in 2012] and the Leicester helicopter incident [in which five people died, including the club’s owner, in 2018], but they weren’t during the show.
    “These were unbelievably difficult circumstances.”
    LIFE’S ROSEY

    RAM RAID
Exclusive by Charlie Wyett: Aaron Ramsdale is a shock target for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.
The Sheffield United keeper, 23, was yesterday called up into the England 2020 squad as a replacement for injured Dean Henderson.
And Ramsdale is a surprise name on Arsenal’s summer wanted list.
However, the recently-relegated Blades want around £20million for their star stopper.
Emirates boss Arteta has a major goalkeeper issue with the future of Bernd Leno unclear as he could be returning to Germany.
Brighton’s Mat Ryan spent the second half of last season on loan in North London but looks unlikely to return to Arsenal.

    GIFT OF THE GAB
Gabby Logan has opened up about the tragic death of her younger brother Daniel.
The popular TV presenter was reminded of Daniel’s passing, aged just 15, by Christian Eriksen’s cardiac arrest on Saturday while playing for Denmark.
After the harrowing events in Copenhagen, Logan, 48, said: “Saturday night stirred up a lot of memories about Daniel, what happened to Christian, and I realised my own personal journey, my career, evolved in many ways out of a need to have some sort of a connection with his life.”
She then added: “He was just a few months shy of his 16th birthday and he was about to start his full-time professional contract when he died of a condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which is a hidden heart condition.
“We had absolutely no idea that he had this ticking time bomb inside him.
“He was playing football in the garden with my dad, and my other brother, who was six at the time.
“And he went over to the long grass to pick up a ball, fell over, and died.”
    BEER WE GO
Paul Pogba mirrored Cristiano Ronaldo’s Coca-Cola snub by removing a Heineken beer bottle during his press conference.
The devout Muslim moved the beverage from the table in front of him following France’s 1-0 win against Germany on Tuesday night.
Pogba, who made a religious pilgrimage to Mecca along with Kurt Zouma in 2018, refused to endorse one of Euro 2020’s official sponsors as alcohol is forbidden for Muslims.
The 28-year-old has become the latest star to take a stance against the Euro’s sponsors after Ronaldo removed two bottles of Coca-Cola placed in front of him.

    GET YOUR FIX
The Premier League 2021/22 fixtures have been announced!
And United open up against Leeds…

    NA YOU’RE TALKING
Arsenal target Andre Onana is receiving more interest from around Europe after his doping ban was reduced from 12 months to nine, according to reports.
The Cameroonian star has not played for Ajax since February, after testing positive for banned substance Furosemide.
He appears to have played his last game for the Dutch champions, as they look to sell him with just a year remaining on his contract.
    Arsenal are a front-runner to sign the highly-rated 25-year-old.
    But they are not alone.
According to Goal, Onana is receiving plenty of interest from France, as well as an approach from one of the Gunners’ fellow top eight Premier League clubs.
Interest has increased since Onana’s doping ban was reduced on appeal.

    KING’S ORDERS
Manchester United have reportedly received a blow in their pursuit of Kingsley Coman with the Bayern Munich winger now expected to remain in Bavaria.
The French winger had been heavily linked with a move away from the Allianz Arena after claims he rejected a contract extension.
It has been stated that the 25-year-old believed the salary was too low, and he wanted to earning the same as £14.5million-a-year Leroy Sane.
This led the Red Devils to target the former Juventus ace as a cheaper alternative to Borussia Dortmund forward Jadon Sancho.
But according to Goal, it appears it is Sancho or nothing for United with Coman considered as a key player in new Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann’s plans.
With Coman under contract until 2023, the Bundesliga champions are in no rush to sell the ex-Paris Saint-Germain man.
They will only part ways with the player should a potential suitor stump up a fee in the region of £60million.
    SACRE BLEU
Benjamin Pavard has revealed he was left unconscious by a nasty collision in Tuesday’s game with Germany – but played on regardless.
Die Mannschaft midfielder Robin Gosens piled into the France star as the pair competed for the ball in Pavard’s 18-yard box.
A foul was awarded to the Bayern Munich defender, who hit the ground with a total lack of control over his body.
French physios treated Pavard and allowed him to play on despite his later confession that he was out cold for over ten seconds.
He stated post-game: “I took a real shock.
“I was a little knocked out for ten, 15 seconds.”

    GOOD MORNING
Chelsea are favourites to sign Jack Grealish in the summer.
The Blues face strong competition from the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City for Grealish.
According to Fichajes, however, the west Londoners are in pole position to wrap up a £100million move.
That would smash the current British transfer record of £89m paid by United for Paul Pogba back in 2016.
However, Chelsea supremo Roman Abramovich is willing to back manager Thomas Tuchel in the transfer market following his Champions League triumph.
Meanwhile, United could seal the transfer of Borussia Dortmund ace Jadon Sancho by the end of the week.
That is according to The Times, as ‘Dortmund believe that a deal could be finalised next week’.
And transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that ‘United’s camp have been in contact with Sancho over the weekend’.
Talks with Dortmund over a potential €95m (£81m) price, bonus details and payment structure will continue in the next days.
But the Red Devils’ initial £60m won’t be enough to complete the transfer.
And former Roma boss Paulo Fonseca held further talks about the vacant Tottenham job with Fabio Paratici in Milan on Monday.
That is according to Football London, who claim Fonseca is expected to become the new manager at Spurs.
Those within the Portuguese coach’s camp have indicated that he met with the north Londoners’ new managing director Paratici.
The two men are believed to be discussing Fonseca’s incoming backroom staff.
Finally, Arsenal are keeping tabs on Leicester ace James Maddison ahead of next season.
According to Football London, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has been a long-term admirer of Maddison.
However, the midfielder’s asking price poses as a major issue for the north Londoners.
Plus, Arsenal may have to battle with Chelsea, who will move for the 24-year-old star if they lose Hakim Ziyech.

    MATS POINT
France beat Germany 1-0 at the Allianz Arena in the biggest game of Euro 2020’s opening round of fixtures.
The Tricolores opened the scoring just after 20 minutes when Paul Pogba delivered a wonderful ball to Theo Hernandez down the left flank and he hammered a low cross into the penalty area.
Mats Hummels got his body position all wrong and turned the ball past Manuel Neuer into his own net.
The reigning world champions thought they had doubled their lead on two occasions in the second half.
First, it was Kylian Mbappe who beat Neuer with an incredible curling shot from the edge of the box but was caught offside.
Then Pogba slid the ball down the right flank for Mbappe, who then switched with Karim Benzema.
Benzema hit the back of the net but that goal was also ruled out as the Paris Saint-Germain superstar was offside before producing the assist
    NOT KEANE
Former Celtic midfielder Roy Keane has questioned Scotland’s quality ahead of their Euros clash with England on Friday.
The ITV pundit analysed where it all went wrong for Steve Clarke’s side on Monday afternoon as Patrik Schick’s double downed the Scots on home turf at Hampden.
The R.O.I. legend casted his doubts over some of the defending on show.
And the Manchester United hero reckons England will be rubbing their hands ahead of their Group D clash at Wembley – insisting they should ‘smash them’.
He said: “He is bound to make one or two changes. We mentioned the other night, Scotland have got some very good players, with quality, but in the wrong areas of the pitch. You need them up the top end. You need them in terms of goalscorers.
“If you are England you will be rubbing your hands together with Scotland coming to town.
“You will be thinking let’s smash them. It will be a great occasion, a great game”
    MAGUIRE UPDATE
Manchester United star Harry Maguire has stepped up his training for England but is still likely to miss Friday’s clash with Scotland.
Maguire is recovering from an ankle ligament injury, but was put through his paces by Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate.
The centre-back’s ongoing injury prevented him from playing in the Europa League Final against Villarreal.
The 28-year-old also had to sit out of England’s Euro 2020 opener against Croatia
    SANCHO UPDATE
Manchester United could seal the transfer of England international Jadon Sancho by the end of the week.
That is according to The Times, as Borussia ‘Dortmund believe that a deal could be finalised next week’.
And Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that ‘United’s camp have been in contact with Sancho over the weekend’.
Negotiations with Dortmund on a potential €95m (£81m) price, bonus details and payment structure will continue in the next few days.
But United’s initial £60m won’t be enough to complete the transfer for the winger, who has joined the Three Lions at Euro 2020

Manchester United hero Cristiano Ronaldo has made history in Euro 2020.
Ronaldo scored a brace against Hungary at the Puskas Arena and sealed a 3-0 victory for Portugal.

After his second goal, the Portuguese superstar took his grand tally to 11

Ronaldo sealed the victory with a fine effort in the second minute of stoppage time

    DALE OF THE TAPE
Sheffield United ace Aaron Ramsdale has replaced Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson in England’s squad.
Henderson was ruled out by Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate due to a hip injury.
Ramsdale was part of the England Under-19 squad that won the 2017 European Championship and has 15 caps under his belt for the Under-21 side.
The 23-year-old shot-stopper has yet to earn a senior cap and is unlikely to make his debut in Euro 2020 as he will be the third choice behind Everton ace Jordan Pickford and West Brom’s Sam Johnstone
    HJULMAND SLAMS UEFA
Denmark boss Kasper Hjulmand criticised UEFA and its protocols after Christian Eriksen’s cardiac arrest.
UEFA rules allow a game to be postponed for 48 hours due to coronavirus but the same didn’t apply when Eriksen collapsed on the pitch against Finland.
Hjulmand said: “Coronavirus allows you to postpone a match for 48 hours. A cardiac arrest obviously does not. That, I think, is wrong.
“There is learning here. It was not the right decision to continue playing. The boys showed so much strength by going out and playing on.
“But I do not think it was the right thing to give us and the players the choice to go out and finish play on Saturday or Sunday.
“I felt that the players – and us close to them – were put under that pressure and were given that dilemma. It was a hugely difficult situation to be in.
“The only real leadership would have been to put the players on a bus and send them home and then deal with it after.
“You don’t necessarily find good leadership in the protocols. Good leadership can sometimes be to lead with compassion”
    FOR PETE’S SAKE
Manchester United hero Peter Schmeichel revealed that UEFA threatened Denmark with a 3-0 defeat if they failed to complete their match against Finland after Christian Eriksen’s cardiac arrest.
Schmeichel spoke to GMB: “They said the players insisted on playing. I know that not to be the truth. Or that’s how you see the truth.
“They were left with three options. One was to play immediately and get the last 50 minutes played. The next one was to come in yesterday at 12 noon and finish the 50 minutes.
“And the third option was to forfeit the game and lose 3-0. So, you know, work it out for yourself. Is it the players’ wish to play? Did they have any choice really? I don’t think they had.
“And as you can hear from [Sunday’s] press conference, the coach seriously regrets putting the players back on the pitch”
    “FEARED THE WORST”
Finland captain Tim Sparv feared that Denmark star Christian Eriksen was “going to die”.
Eriksen suffered cardiac arrest during the Danish national team’s Euro 2020 opener against Sparv’s nation.
The former Southampton player told CNN: “That picture that I still have in my head, that’s so disturbing. You really feared the worst.
“You thought that he was going to die. It was very, very emotional and we’re just so happy and glad that he’s doing fine”
     JOAO CANCEL
Manchester City star Joao Cancelo has been ruled out of Euro 2020 after testing positive for COVID-19.
Cancelo has been replaced by Manchester United loanee Diogo Dalot in the Portugal national team.
The full-back tested positive for coronavirus on Saturday and is “doing well” after being placed in isolation.
The reigning European champions said: “In accordance with the COVID-19 protocol defined by UEFA before the Euro 2020 matches, all players and members of the entourage underwent RT-PCR tests on Saturday.
“The results, with the exception of Cancelo, were negative”

Ronaldo: Patricio, Semedo, Dias, Pepe, Guerreiro, Pereira, Carvalho, Fernandes, Silva, Ronaldo, Jota
    HEND-ING THERE
Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson has been ruled out for the rest of Euro 2020 due to a hip injury but Jose Mourinho still believes he will become a “phenomenal” player.
Mourinho told The Times: “I think they [England’s trio] are good goalkeepers. I don’t think they are phenomenal goalkeepers or, in Dean Henderson’s case, not yet phenomenal. When I say not yet, I say he will be.
“I met him at United when he was a kid and I always remember him asking me to go on loan. He was saying when I come back, I come back to be the No1.
“He told me that when he was the fourth choice. He is a kid with an incredible self-confidence and I think he is ready”
    WHAT’S ON
Today marks perhaps the most exciting day of the Euro 2020 group stage with the group of death in full action.
Underdogs Hungary, who had the misfortune of joining three of the tournament’s biggest favourites, will take on Portugal in one-and-a-half hours at the Puskas Arena.
And later tonight we will get to watch the most highly-anticipated game of the first round of fixtures.
Germany and France are going to collide in what promises to be a highly entertaining encounter
    ‘FREEDOM’
Paul Pogba says he has more ‘freedom’ with France than he does at Man Utd.
Speaking to L’Equipe, he said: “It’s true that at Juve it was different from Manchester United.
“We were already playing with three midfielders [at Juve], in 5-3-2. I had the freedom, I had to be in the box, to attack.
“It was an obligation. In Manchester, I have the freedom to go into the box, but the priority is to play and defend.
“We [France] play in 4-2-3-1, also a diamond. I am a little more in the transmission, in the construction.
“But I have more freedom than in Manchester to enter the box, to make runs forwards.
“At the same time, when you have Griezmann, Kylian, you don’t want to enter their spaces, you don’t need to.“I would like [at Manchester United] to play more offensive [laughs]. To score fifteen goals per season is what I would like.
“But Patrick [Vieira] said it, we must put ourselves at the service of the collective.
“In Manchester, as in blue, the collective will always come before the player.”

    ‘WE WERE CONFIDENT’
Scotland captain Andy Robertson said both the country and the team were confident heading into their group stage opener against the Czech Republic.
But the host nation fell to a 2-0 defeat with Schick getting on the scoresheet twice.
Robertson said: “It’s hard to put your finger on it just now. Everyone in the country wanted to get off to a good start.
“We were confident, excited, and it comes down to not taking our chances.
“You can’t say we’ve not created, we’ve had some really, really good chances that we should have done better with. If you do better on that, then it’s a different game.
“It’s a tough lesson for us that at the highest level, at the best tournaments, you have to take your chances. Czech Republic did that, we didn’t.”

    GERMANY TEAM GUIDE
Germany face France later on today in their Euro 2020 group stage opener!

    FAMILY FIRST
Rio Ferdinand believes Christian Eriksen is unlikely to play football again after his cardiac arrest.
The 29-year-old was resuscitated on the field during Denmark’s Euro 2020 defeat to Finland on Saturday.
Medics confirmed that he ‘was gone’ before being given CPR and shocked with a defibrillator.
Eriksen is now recovering in hospital and provided a positive update reassuring fans that he ‘is fine under the circumstances.’
His collapse left the footballing world in shock including BBC pundit Rio Ferdinand who spoke of his emotions seeing Eriksen fighting for his life.
Speaking on his Vibe With Five Youtube show, he said: “I don’t think he plays again, I’ve got to be honest.
“If I’m him I’m not thinking about that probably, I’d just want to be healthy for the sake of my family really.”

RICE: WEST HAM FORM GAVE ME FULL CONFIDENCE
West Ham midfielder Declan Rice has said that his fine form has given him full confidence for Euro 2020.
He said: “I did see the comments before the game (Croatia) and of course you don’t want to talk too much.
“You want to just go out on the field and show what you can do. I thought our gameplan was excellent.
“We – me, Mase [Mount] and Kalv [Phillips] – have been working on our distances and Mase and Kalv pressing and me sitting just behind them and allowing them to express themselves and having the freedom to do what they want and I think it worked really well on Sunday.”
Rice has taken confidence from his strong performance on Sunday in the win against Croatia.
He continued: “We knew we had to be at the top level and if I’d have had asked myself two years ago to go out there and perform at a high standard, of course I’d have gone out there and done it but maybe I’d have had some doubts.
“But on Sunday, in my mind, after the season I’ve had with West Ham and the performances I’ve had with England recently I had full confidence before the game that I could go out there and perform to a high standard and I think everyone did that.”
    GREALISH NOT TRAINING
Jack Grealish is not part of training with the rest of the England team today.
According to Sky Sports, Grealish is in the gym doing some work on his own – but it is unknown whether it is injury related.
Dean Henderson dropped out of the squad not long ago, hopefully Southgate isn’t handed another injury worry.
    BREAKING: HEND OF THE ROAD
Dean Henderson has been forced to WITHDRAW from England’s Euro 2020 squad with a hip injury.
Sheffield United stopper Aaron Ramsdale has been called-up as his replacement.
Henderson, 24, has returned to Manchester United after picking up a hip injury in training, with his Euros campaign over.
The Old Trafford stopper had been on the bench for the 1-0 win over Croatia.

Speaking after the game, Deschamps seemed pleased with his side’s performance, he said: “We played a great game against very good opponents.
“I knew my players would be ready and we were up for the fight.
“We weren’t far away from scoring the second goal that would have made us safe, but we didn’t suffer that much in the second half.
“It was a strong match with quality and talent.”
    TRES BIEN
Deschamps kicked off France’s campaign in fine-form.
France are favourite to win and now occupy second spot in their group behind Portugal due to goal difference.
Every team has now played their first game of Euro2020, who do you think has got what it takes to go all the way?

    TEAM TALK
Germany lost their opening game of the Euros for the first time ever and it was a scrappy way to lose it.
The ‘group of death’ currently has Portugal in top spot after beating Hungary by three goals, they play Germany next.

    HAVE YOUR SAY
Portugal and France both get points on the board today, while Hungary and Germany are found wanting.
Hungary face France in Budapest on Saturday afternoon, which is followed by Portugal taking on Germany in Munich.
France and Portugal may have the advantage in Group F, but with two games each left to go, it’s still all to play for.

    CLASH OF THE TITANS
Neither side were in peak form this evening, but the difference came from a Germany mistake.
France had two goals ruled out for offside, but could easily have scored several more. Germany just weren’t clinical enough up top.

    FT: FRANCE 1-0 GERMANY
    FRANCE 1-0 GERMANY
    94. You have to give it to Germany for the spirit they’ve shown, they refuse to give up.
Low’s final campaign hasn’t got off to the best start, can he salvage the group stage in a very difficult group?
    FRANCE 1-0 GERMANY
    93. Can tries to pick out Werner in a crowded box, but Pogba’s height gives him an advantage over the Chelsea man.
France make another substitution as Dembele replaces Rabiot for the final few moments of the game.
    FRANCE 1-0 GERMANY
    92. Sane receives the ball in the D, but struggles to break through a sea of blue shirts.
Kante pokes the ball away from his feet, halting Germany’s latest attacking phase.
    FRANCE 1-0 GERMANY
    90. There will be six additional minutes in Munich.
Rabiot’s down pleading with the ref for medical attention, the ref initially waves on before allowing treatment – he makes him leave the field immediately so as not to waste time.
    FRANCE 1-0 GERMANY
    88. Germany waste a corner, this time it’s Kroos who fails to beat the first man.
France try to break quickly, but Griezmann makes a poor pass on the right sideline trying to pick out Mbappe, but it’s intercepted by Volland.
    FRANCE 1-0 GERMANY
    87. France respond and make a substitution of their own.
     Tolisso replaces Benzema.

    FRANCE 1-0 GERMANY
    86. Muller tries to lift a ball over the top into the box, but Rabiot handballs it with an outstretched right arm.
    Freekick abut 25 yards out.

    HOOOOOLD UP
It’s been deemed offside! After all that, it seems Mbappe went a little too early again.
    Germany have a lifeline.
    FRANCE 2-0 GERMANY
    84. Benzema confirms his return to international football with a bang!
Pogba sends out a delicious ball to pick out Mbappe on the right, he races away from any white shirt and makes a diagonal run towards goal.
As Neuner comes racing off his line, Mbappe squares it to Benzema who lashes it home.
    GOOOOOAL
    GAME, SET & MATCH

    HAVE YOUR SAY

    FRANCE 1-0 GERMANY
    82. Pogba’s outstretched leg stops Kimich’s cross from reaching Werner on the left-side of the box.
But it’s not cleared far enough as Germany regroup and work the ball back around the box.
    FRANCE 1-0 GERMANY
Here’s Mbappe’s disallowed goal from this half – would you just look at that finish.

    FRANCE 1-0 GERMANY
    78. Hummels’ job appears to be to keep Mbappe quiet.
Once again he manages to catch up with the PSG star on the edge of the area and dispossess him.
Mbappe is leaving everyone in his dust, but Hummels manages to catch up when the Frenchman takes a touch too many.
    FRANCE 1-0 GERMANY
    77. Mbappe is away and looks as though he’s set to clear the last man, but Hummels slides in to pinch the ball from his feet.
The Frenchman is down protesting for a pen, but the ref isn’t having any of it.
    FRANCE 1-0 GERMANY
    76. Kimmich tries to lift the ball from the right to the far post where Werner is waiting, but Lloris is up in the air to collect.
Germany are still trying to penetrate France’s compact defence.
    FRANCE 1-0 GERMANY
    74. France are playing very compactly now.
They seem quite happy to sit and defend.

    MATS POINT
France defeated Germany 1-0 at the Allianz Arena in the biggest game of Euro 2020’s opening round of fixtures.
The Tricolores broke the deadlock just after 20 minutes when Paul Pogba delivered a wonderful ball to Theo Hernandez down the left flank and he hammered a low cross into the penalty area.
Mats Hummels got his body position all wrong and turned the ball past his own goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.
The world champions thought they had doubled their lead on two occasions in the second half.
First, it was Kylian Mbappe who beat Neuer with an stunning curling shot from the edge of the box but was caught offside.
Then Pogba slid the ball down the right wing for Mbappe, who then switched with Karim Benzema.
Benzema hit the back of the net but that strike was also ruled out as the Paris Saint-Germain superstar was offside before producing the assist

    MAD SIGNING
Arsenal are keeping tabs on Leicester ace James Maddison ahead of next season.
According to Football London, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has been a long-term admirer of Maddison.
However, the midfielder’s asking price poses as a major issue for the north Londoners.

    TIERNEY RETURN
Kieran Tierney has returned to full training for Scotland ahead of Friday’s Euro 2020 match against England.
Tierney picked up a knock in practice before their opening game with the Czech Republic, so he sat out of the 2-0 loss.
However, the Arsenal ace seems to be nearing full fitness ahead of a major clash for his country.
And that works as a major boost for Steve Clarke as he will need all the strength he can get down the left flank
    MAGUIRE UPDATE
Manchester United ace Harry Maguire has stepped up his training for England but is still likely to miss Friday’s clash with Scotland.
Maguire is recovering from an ankle ligament issue, but was put through his paces by Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate.
The centre-back’s ongoing problem prevented him from playing in the Europa League Final against Villarreal.
The 28-year-old defender also had to sit out of England’s Euro 2020 opener against Croatia
    THAT’S E-NAV
Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas is reportedly being monitored by Manchester United after his future was thrown into doubt.
Gianluigi Donnarumma is set to join PSG when his contract at AC Milan expires, potentially leaving Navas on the bench.
According to Marca, the Costa Rica international could be set for a move with the likes of Milan, Juventus and United all keen to sign him.
The Red Devils are set for a busy summer and a decision will need to be made on the futures of both shot-stoppers Dean Henderson and David de Gea

Rafa Silva was then fouled by Willi Orban inside the box and Cristiano Ronaldo scored from the spot just three minutes later.
Ronaldo sealed the big win with a fine effort in the second minute of stoppage time
    STERLING BLOW
Arsenal target Raheem Sterling is going to hold talks with Manchester City over a new deal after Euro 2020.
That is according to the Daily Telegraph, who claim City boss Pep Guardiola still holds Sterling in high regard despite the high competition in attacking positions.
The winger still has two years left on his contract with the Premier League champions.
But the reduced playing time this past term suggested the England international may have become surplus to requirements and was thus linked with a move to Arsenal
    SANCHO UPDATE
Manchester United could seal the transfer of Borussia Dortmund ace Jadon Sancho by the end of the week.
That is according to The Times, as ‘Dortmund believe that a deal could be finalised next week’.

Reminding you all that Juventus ace Aaron Ramsey wants to come back to Arsenal in the summer.

Mahrez has been enjoying his holiday in the Greek island of Mykonos with a group of friends, one of which is Haaland.
The attacking duo were filmed loving life in the party island and the City star cheekily suggested he is doing his part to convince the star striker to move to the Etihad by referring to himself as “Agent Mahrez”.
Haaland, of course, missed out on Euro 2020 with Norway failing to qualify but the Borussia Dortmund star appears to be making the most of his holiday time

    JACK ATTACK
Just a quick reminder, Chelsea are favourites to sign Jack Grealish in the summer.
The Blues face strong competition from the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City for Grealish.
According to Fichajes, however, the west Londoners are in pole position to wrap up a £100million move.
That would smash the current British transfer record of £89m paid by United for Paul Pogba back in 2016.
However, Roman Abramovich is willing to back manager Thomas Tuchel in the transfer market following his Champions League triumph
    DAK THAT

Arsenal face a bottle to sign Andre Onana from Dutch team Ajax, according to reports.
Goal are reporting that due to Onana’s doping ban being reduced from 12 months to nine, he is attracting interest from a host of European clubs.
Arsenal are in the hunt for a goalkeeper after both Alex Runarsson and Mat Ryan failed to provide adequate back-up for No1 Bernd Leno.
But Leno could also be on his way out with his long-term future at the club in doubt.

Rio Ferdinand has urged Manchester United to sign Declan Rice this summer.
And the West Ham ace has also been compared to iconic ex-Hammer Michael Carrick.
Rice, 22, shone for Ferdinand’s old club West Ham last season, captaining them in most games as they finished sixth – their highest league finish this millennium – and secured Europa League football.
The holding midfielder has also cemented himself in the England starting XI – playing 90 minutes in the Three Lions’ Euro 2020 opener win against Croatia on Sunday.
And Ferdinand – who came through West Ham’s academy – risked the wrath of the Irons’ faithful by imploring the Red Devils to sign him this summer.
The 42-year-old held a Twitter Q&A on Monday and was asked: “What No 6 should Man Utd buy this summer?”
And the former England ace simply wrote: “Welcome @_DeclanRice.”

    NAV SAID
Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas has been linked with a move to Manchester United once more.
Navas came close to joining United a while back but a move from Real Madrid, with David de Gea going the other way, broke down due to an administrative error.
The Costa Rica international said: “This was one of the worst days of my life. I didn’t cry that day, but I did after all was said and done when I was with my wife.
“I was waiting in the airport even without suitcases. I was not on the plane, but I was near.
“In the end, after everything that happened, many complicated moments, we’re human and eventually the time comes when you burst”
    RETIREMENT PLANS
Manchester United star Edinson Cavani said he is going to retire after the 2022 World Cup.
Cavani said: “Honestly, that’s what I’m thinking. I believe every human being’s life is based on objectives, on desires you want to achieve, on arriving at certain goals.
“From a football perspective my aim at the national team level, and in general, is to go to the World Cup in Qatar and from there to step aside and dedicate myself to my family, my people, my things.

    TRIPPIER CLOSE
Manchester United are close to signing Atletico Madrid star Kieran Trippier.
According to the Football Insider, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes that Trippier will be a good defensive addition.
The 30-year-old – currently with England’s Euro 2020 squad- helped Atletico to win LaLiga this season.
And he would also provide some much-needed competition for fellow right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka
    MAGUIRE UPDATE
Manchester United star defender Harry Maguire has stepped up his training for England but is still likely to miss Friday’s clash with Scotland.
Maguire is still recovering from an ankle ligament injury he has been dealing with for a while, but was put through his paces by Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate.
The centre-back’s ongoing injury prevented him from playing in the Europa League Final against Villarreal.
The 28-year-old ace also had to sit out of England’s Euro 2020 kick-off match against Croatia
    WHITE BLOW
Brighton ace Ben White wants to move to Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
That is according to the Daily Mail as White appears to be among the Gunners’ top targets.
The Seagulls, however, are going to demand around £50m to let the England international go.
Nevertheless, the defender could look to force a move away from the Amex Stadium
    THAT’S E-NAV
Paris Saint-Germain star Keylor Navas is reportedly being monitored by Manchester United after his future was thrown into doubt.
Gianluigi Donnarumma is set to sign for PSG when his contract at AC Milan expires, potentially leaving Navas on the bench.
According to Marca, the Costa Rica international could be set for a move with Milan, Juventus and United all keen to sign him.
The Red Devils are set for a busy summer and a decision will need to be made on the futures of both goalkeepers Dean Henderson and David de Gea

Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo has made history in Euro 2020.
Ronaldo scored a brace against Hungary at the Puskas Arena and sealed a 3-0 win for Portugal.
The star forward’s first goal of the night made him the competition’s all-time leading goalscorer.
The 36-year-old broke Michel Platini’s record and became the first ever player to net 10 goals in the Euros.
After his second goal, the Portuguese superstar took his tally to 11

    PORTUGAL WIN
Portugal emerged victorious against Hungary 3-0 at the Puskas Arena in their Euro 2020 opener.
The reigning European champions struggled with a tough opposition who had a goal disallowed as Szabolcs Schon was caught offside.
But Fernando Santos’ men broke the deadlock in the last 10 minutes of the game when Raphael Guerreiro beat Peter Gulacsi on 84 minutes.
Rafa Silva was then brought down by Willi Orban inside the area and Cristiano Ronaldo scored from the spot just three minutes later.
Ronaldo sealed the important victory with a fine effort in the second minute of stoppage time
    RON A ROLL
Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo appears to have sealed victory for Portugal against Hungary.
Fernando Santos’ men have been struggling against the hosts, who had a goal disallowed as Szabolcs Schon was caught offside.
But Raphael Guerreiro broke the deadlock on 84 minutes and finally gave the reigning European champions the lead.
Rafa Silva was then brought down by Willi Orban inside the box and Ronaldo scored from the spot just three minutes later

    GOLDEN BOY
Manchester United aces Mason Greenwood and Amad Diallo have made the shortlist for the 2021 Golden Boy Award.
Greenwood has been nominated for the second year in a row, having finished 12th in the running last year.
Fans will get to vote the winner from a list that also includes Borussia Dortmund ace Jude Bellingham and Chelsea’s Billy Gilmour.
United players – past and present – are among the award’s former winners, such as Paul Pogba, Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial
    FOR PETE’S SAKE
Legendary Manchester United star Peter Schmeichel revealed that UEFA threatened Denmark with a 3-0 defeat if they failed to complete their match against Finland after Christian Eriksen’s cardiac arrest.
Schmeichel told GMB: “They said the players insisted on playing.
    SANCHO UPDATE
Manchester United could seal the transfer of Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho by the end of the week.
That is according to The Times, as ‘Dortmund believe that a deal could be finalised next week’.
And transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that ‘United’s camp have been in contact with Sancho over the weekend’.
Negotiations with Dortmund on a potential €95m (£81m) price, bonus details and payment structure will continue in the next days.
But United’s initial £60m won’t be enough to complete the transfer
    NIC OF TIME
Tottenham have joined the bidding war for Sassuolo star, and Manchester United target, Domenico Berardi.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the north Londoners are keeping tabs on Berardi who is highly rated by the newly-appointed managing director Fabio Paratici.
The Gunners and United have also shown interest in the winger recently.
Serie A giants AC Milan and Juventus are eyeing the Italy international as well
    GETTY IMAGES
    VAN DE BEEK CONTACT
Arsenal have made contact with Manchester United ace Donny van de Beek’s people.
That is according to 90Min, who claim that the Gunners have touched base with Van de Beek’s reps as they are interested in bringing him to the Emirates.
United could be willing to let the attacking midfielder leave after a hapless season at Old Trafford that saw him spending most of his time on the bench.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is on the lookout for a No10 as Martin Odegaard appears set to rejoin Real Madrid after his loan spell in north London
    JACK ATTACK
Just a quick reminder, Chelsea are favourites to sign Aston Villa star Jack Grealish in the summer.
The Blues face strong competition from the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City for Grealish, who has joined England for Euro 2020.
According to Fichajes, however, the west Londoners are in pole position to wrap up a £100million move for the talented forward.
That would smash the current British transfer record of £89m paid by United for star midfielder Paul Pogba back in 2016.
However, Chelsea supremo Roman Abramovich is willing to back manager Thomas Tuchel in the transfer market following his Champions League triumph
    DAK THAT
Liverpool have made an approach for Man Utd and Arsenal target Patson Daka, according to reports.
And the Zambian international is believed to be very keen on joining the Reds.
Daka has an impressive goal-scoring record, scoring 61 goals in his last 85 games for the club in all competitions.
According to Football Insider, Liverpool have made contact and will look to sign the 22-year-old.
“At the same time, when you have Griezmann, Kylian, you don’t want to enter their spaces, you don’t need to.”I would like [at Manchester United[ to play more offensive [laughs]. To score fifteen goals per season is what I would like.
“But Patrick [Vieira] said it, we must put ourselves at the service of the collective.
“In Manchester, as in blue, the collective will always come before the player.”
    FERGIE VOID
Here’s the players Man Utd have signed after Sir Alex Ferguson left the club.

    KEY TO SUCCESS
Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas is reportedly being tracked by Manchester United after his future was thrown into doubt.
Gianluigi Donnarumma is set to sign for the Ligue 1 club when his AC Milan contract expires, potentially leaving Navas on the bench.
The Costa Rican star has impressed throughout his spells with Real Madrid and PSG, winning a league title with each and three Champions Leagues with the Spanish giants.

    THAT’S ALL FOR NOW!
It was the Cristiano Ronaldo show once again as the star made history in Portugal’s victory.
Hungary are next in action when they take on France at 2pm on Saturday, with Portugal against Germany following at 5pm.
Ronaldo now needs just four goals to become the all-time top scorer in men’s international football. You wouldn’t bet against him doing it this summer.

    DOWN BUT NOT DISHEARTENED
A few quotes coming out of the Hungary camp.
Goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi said: “With a little luck, we could have even scored a point. That would have been a great thing. We will try again on Saturday.”
Szabolcs Schon said: “My childhood dream of being able to enter the European Championship in front of 65,000 spectators came true.”
Attila Szalai added: “I’m disappointed because not much was missing to score. We worked well, this defeat is annoying. We fought hard, we slipped, we climbed.”

    G NEV – RONALDO OBSCENE
Gary Neville has been waxing lyrical about Cristiano Ronaldo on ITV.
The former Manchester United defender said: “It’s an obscene record – 106 goals for his country is absolutely ridiculous.
“He continues to beat individual record after individual record.
He wants to be the best player in the world and seen as one of the greatest of all-time in terms of scoring more goals than anyone and he’ll go and do it.
“His physical shape is absolutely incredible.
“He’s adapted from being someone who sprinted from the left wing or the right wing.
“Now he’s not doing as much running in games and he’s not as explosive but he’s just basically a poacher.
“You wouldn’t traditionally think of him as a centre-forward but he’s now a striker and a brilliant goalscorer. There are no words left for him really.”

    FT: HUNGARY 0-3 PORTUGAL
Cristiano Ronaldo becomes the all-time highest goalscorer in European Championship history as Portugal’s late, late show sees the holders defeat a spirited Hungary side.
Portugal had to wait a long time to make the breakthrough with Raphael Guerreiro’s deflected effort wrong-footing Peter Gulacsi in the 85th minute.
Ronaldo doubled the lead from the spot two minutes later after Willi Orban pulled back Rafa Silva.
But Ronaldo still wasn’t done, dancing round the Hungary defence and Gulacsi to grab his second and Portugal’s third in injury time.

    ROSSI READY TO RUMBLE
Hungary may be in the so-called group of death, but coach Marco Rossi is confident his men can pull off a shock.
He said: “We’ll do everything to push ourselves to the limit. We know who we’re up against.
“We’ll keep our feet on the ground, but, of course, we want to achieve our dreams. Dreaming is free, so we dream.
“Our dream remains between us, of course. We talk about it and want to live that dream. Let’s hope it continues during the Euros.”
Hungary play host in the Puskas Arena in front of a rare 61,000 capacity crowd, with life in Budapest back to normal for residents carrying immunity cards.
That’s after Viktor Orban, Hungary’s Prime Minister, defied the European Union to make use of vaccines available from Russia and China and accelerated the release of national lockdown regulations.
Hungary reached the last 16 of Euro 2016. In that tournament they played Portugal in the group phase in a 3-3 draw.

    FERREIRA: TIME TO SHINE
Former Portugal international Paulo Ferreira has stressed the importance of Fernando Santos’ side getting off to a winning start today.
Ex-Chelsea defender Ferreira, who won 62 caps for his country between 2002 and 2010 told 101 Great Goals: “It’s really important to start the competition well.
“We had that in Euros in2004 when we lost the first game against Greece and then we obviously had to push hard to win the next two games and get to the knock-out stage.
“This year it’s the same, we need to play well against Hungary and hope that France or Germany loses one of their games. It will be very important for us to win the first game so we can carry that confidence into the second game.
“It’s a tough group. Unfortunately, one of the big teams will lose out and I hope it won’t be Portugal.
“It’s a really, really tough group but we also can’t forget about Hungary because people just think about Portugal, France and Germany but you never know!
“You can be surprised because the Hungarian team have nothing to lose. They have the chance of playing against top players and they want to show up as they know all eyes are on the Euros.
“You need to respect Hungary as well as you never know what they can produce.”

    ALL EYES ON CR7
All eyes will be on Cristiano Ronaldo today.
A five-time Ballon d’Or winner, in his 19th year as a professional footballer, he netted 36 times for Juventus last season.
Ronaldo also scored 11 goals in Euro 2020 qualifying.
He’s looking to close in on the all-time top scoring record in men’s international football this month. He needs just six to surpass Iran’s Ali Daei, who sits on 109.

    THE TEAMSHEETS ARE IN!
    TEAM NEWS
Portugal’s preparations were disrupted on Sunday when Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo tested positive for Covid-19 and was replaced in the squad by Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot.
There are nine Premier League players in the Portugal squad, including Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes, Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, Manchester City pair Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva and Wolves quartet Rui Patricio, Nelson Semedo, Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves.
The Hungary squad includes Bristol City midfielder Adam Nagy, while goalkeepers Peter Gulacsi and Adam Bogdan both had spells at Liverpool.
They saw Dominik Szoboszlai ruled out of the tournament, while wing-back Szilveszter Hangya also missed out through injury.
Hopes are likely to rest on the shoulders of striker and captain Adam Szalai, along with fellow Bundesliga forward Roland Sallai.

    REPEAT OFFENDERS
Fernando Santos, who led Portugal to European Championship glory five years ago, believes his side can hold onto the trophy, as Spain did in 2012.
He said: “Portugal arrive to this competition the same way we did in 2016, with the same confidence and belief to achieve something important like in 2016, where we managed to do it, and now we are with the same confidence.
“Like in the past, we have what it takes to win again.
“Obviously, as contenders to win, if we don’t get through the group phase it will be a failure. But I don’t believe that will happen to Portugal.
“I think people have the right and are correct to demand that we do everything in our power to win, using our quality, organisation, commitment, and I believe we are prepared for that.
“Portugal have the ability to go toe-to-toe with any team that also has ambitions to win the tournament.”
