    DOUBEL TROUBLE
David De Gea and Dean Henderson’s futures are in doubt now Manchester United have secured the services of four goalkeepers.
The club have signed Tom Heaton on a three-year deal and extended Lee Grant’s stay by a year meaning the club are now overloaded in that department.
It is clearly a move in preparation for the departure of one of their first-team keepers who shared goalkeeping duties between them last season. Neither De Gea, 30, or Henderson, 24, want to play second fiddle to the other next season.
Now the Red Devils will wait to see if there are offers for either. De Gea lost his Premier League first team place for a time towards the end of last season.
Henderson did not fully grasp his opportunity with De Gea returning at the end and taking his place in the Europa League Final.
But he was poor as United drew 1-1 with Villarreal and lost on penalties with De Gea not getting nearing one of the 11 spot-kicks he faced and then crucially missed his own.

    WHAT A BAUM-MER
Manchester United look set to miss out on target Christoph Baumgartner after he pledged his future to Hoffenheim.
The Red Devils have been keeping tabs on the Austrian since January as they look to bolster their midfield ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
But their pursuit of the 21-year-old will have to put on hold until at least next season, according to Buli News. The youngster’s contract expires in 2025 and he has no plans of changing that in the coming years.
Baumgartner reckons staying put at the Rhian-Neckar Arena is the best thing for his career right now. When asked about his future, he said: “My clear plan is to play for Hoffenheim next season.
“I definitely extended my contract in March with the intention to play here next season.
“I believe I have the biggest opportunity to develop further here. For me, that means playing consistently at a high level with more room for improvement.”

    BEFRIEND IT LIKE BECKHAM
Victoria Beckham has been crowned England’s ultimate Wag ahead of the Three Lions’ Euro 2020 quarter-final clash with Ukraine.
Manchester United legend David’s wife has topped the list of the most popular partner just ahead of Coleen Rooney and Abbey Clancey.
England’s current Wags were allowed to roar on Gareth Southgate’s men during their 2-0 win over Germany at Wembley.
They included Harry Kane’s missus Katie Goodland, Jordan Pickford’s wife Megan Davison and Harry Maguire’s fiancee Fern Hawkins.
Yet according to a survey by bettingexpert.com of over 1000 Brits ahead of the game, the partners of former players were more popular.

    SPECIAL ARRIVAL
Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho touched down in Rome today and was greeted by hoards of supporters at the airport.
The Portuguese coach was taken from Lisbon to the Italian capital in a private plane piloted by Roma’s owner Dan Friedkin.
His arrival comes just hours before England land there for their Euro 2020 last eight clash with Ukraine.
But the former Tottenham manager will not be watching the Three Lions in action – instead he will begin his new job at Roma. The 58-year-old was sacked by Spurs in April just days before the Carabao Cup Final.
He soon agreed to take charge of the Serie A outfit at the end of the campaign and in the meantime has been working as SunSport’s exclusive Euro 2020 expert.
Now the ex-Chelsea and Manchester United boss is in Italy and shared a snap of himself arriving at Fiumicino ahead of pre-season training.

    HE THINKS IT’S AL OVER
Former Manchester United target Toby Alderweireld has reportedly told Tottenham he wants to quit the club this summer.
The Belgian centre-half joined Spurs in 2015 from Atletico Madrid after impressing before that on loan at Southampton. He has played nearly 200 appearances for the North London side and helped them reach the Champions League final in 2019.
Now The Athletic claims his time with Spurs may soon be over and that he is searching for a new side. Harry Kane’s future still remains unclear and this latest development will not help new boss Nuno Espirito Santo with his pre-season plans.
Tottenham have been in the market for a new centre-half and reportedly had a £15.5million offer for Takehiro Tomiyasu rejected by Bologna.
SunSport exclusively revealed last week that Spurs are confident they will land the Japanese defender this summer.
The North London club felt their initial bid of £12.9m plus an extra £2.6m in add-ons would be enough to clinch the 22-year-old. But Bologna are holding out for an extra £1.5m for Tomiyasu, taking the price to £17.2m.

    VARANE BOOST
Raphael Varane’s agent has been given the green light by Real Madrid to discuss a potential transfer to Manchester United.
Varane is entering the final year of his contract with Real and doesn’t seem very likely to extend.
Therefore, according to Marca, Los Blancos have allowed the defender’s representative to hold talks with United.
Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is determined to sign a top centre-back to partner up with Harry Maguire in defence
    MATA PRAISE
Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has praised team-mate Juan Mata after signing his contract extension.
Mata put pen to paper on a new one-year deal with United and Fernandes seems to be completely on board with that.
Even though he now has to wait for the No8 shirt for another year.
    More below:
I guess I’ll have to wait for the number 8 another year… 😒😂Congrats brother!! Well deserved! An example and an inspiration on and off the pitch 🤩 @juanmata8 https://t.co/kziTxCVMIu— Bruno Fernandes (@B_Fernandes8) July 2, 2021

    NEXT PRIORITY
Manchester United are very close to making Jadon Sancho’s move to Old Trafford official.
Now the next order of business will be a new contract for star midfielder Bruno Fernandes.
That is according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who expects new updates this month.
    More below:
Manchester United next priority will be Bruno Fernandes contract. CAVANI LINK
Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho wouldn’t be on his way to Manchester United if it wasn’t for Edinson Cavani.
That’s according to the Athletic, who claim United would have prioritised the signing of a centre-forward had Cavani not signed an extension.
But the Uruguay international put pen on paper on a new one-year deal.
And thus, the Red Devils focused on Sancho, who will link up with the rest of the squad after England’s Euro 2020 campaign
    RAMOS SNUB
Sergio Ramos snubbed a move to Manchester United after leaving Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
Ramos is set to join Paris Saint-Germain on a two-year deal as a free agent.
According to the Daily Star, however, the 36-year-old held talks with United about a possible switch to Old Trafford before sealing his move to PSG.
The Red Devils were willing to hand over a £200,000-a-week deal, with the option of a second season, whereas PSG offered a straight two-year deal but with reduced wages.
    HEATON REACTS
Tom Heaton is very happy to have returned to Manchester United, the same club where he spent his youth days.
Heaton told United’s official website: “For me to have the opportunity to come back after spending 13 great years here as a kid, it’s an incredible feeling and I’m really, really excited to get started.
“I’m just seeing it as a fantastic opportunity as I still feel I’ve got an awful lot to give and I’ve got the bit between my teeth.
“I’m looking forward to hitting the ground running. I feel in great shape and I’m looking forward to coming in to compete with the other goalkeepers”
    HEAT-ING UP
Manchester United have announced the signing of ex-Burnley and Aston Villa goalkeeper Tom Heaton.
Heaton has put pen to paper on a deal until June 2023, with the option for a further year.
The 35-year-old shot-stopper spent 13 years at United as a youngster without ever making a senior appearance.
The England international is set to become manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s third-choice goalkeeper behind David de Gea and Dean Henderson

    FANS NOT ALLOWED
England supporters who travel to Rome for the Euro 2020 quarter-final match against Ukraine, which will feature plenty of Manchester United stars, will not be allowed into the stadium even if they have a ticket.
The Italian embassy in London have warned that “anybody who has been in the UK in the previous 14 days, irrespective of their nationality or residency will not be admitted to the stadium, even if they have a ticket.”
They added: “Anyone who is found to be failing to observe quarantine will be punished as laid down by the law.
“Fans based in the UK should therefore not travel to Italy to attend the match on Saturday at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.”
The embassy also said that those “who can prove that they have arrived in Italy at least six days previously, have observed five days of quarantine, and have taken a post-quarantine Covid-19 test with a negative result will be allowed into the Stadio Olimpico”.
But they added: “Being exempt from quarantine in Italy for any legal reason, will not translate into permission to enter the stadium.”
    HAALAND LINK
Chelsea are reportedly preparing an offer for Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland, who has also been linked with Manchester United.
That is according to the Daily Mail, who claim the Blues are close to landing star striker Haaland.
The report suggests the Norway international expects a move to the west Londoners this summer after another successful season in Germany.
However, Chelsea are still facing a fierce bidding war with Manchester United, Manchester City and Real Madrid.
    MATA STAYS
Juan Mata has agreed to stay at Manchester United for one more year.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Mata put pen to paper on a one-year extension after his previous contract expired at midnight on Wednesday.
The winger has played a major part in the club ever since 2014 when he moved to Old Trafford from Chelsea.
The Spain international was part of the teams that won the FA Cup and Community Shield in 2016 as well as the EFL Cup and Europa League a year later
    VAR REVIEW
Manchester United are reportedly closing in on a deal for Real Madrid ace Raphael Varane.
That is according to ESPN, who claim United have received encouragement over a transfer for Varane following a deal for Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho.
The report adds that the centre-back is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top defensive target and Real are prepared to negotiate a realistic fee for the 28-year-old.
The Red Devils are already said to have held ‘some discussions’ for the France international – whose contract at Los Blancos is due to expire in June 2022.
The Manchester giants’ efforts to sign Varane have stepped up following France’s surprise round-of-16 exit at Euro 2020 against Switzerland.
United are allegedly confident that a deal can be done for around £43million – a sharp decrease from Madrid’s initial £60m valuation

    POGBA FUTURE
Manchester United star Paul Pogba is set to enter the final 12 months of his Old Trafford deal.
According to the Daily Express, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could try and sign a midfielder if Pogba’s contract saga continues.
That is why the Red Devils have been linked with the likes of West Ham star Declan Rice and Bayern Munich ace Leon Goretzka.
The Manchester giants will start focusing on other targets once Jadon Sancho’s move from Borussia Dortmund is completed
    GORETZKA LINK
Manchester United have been linked with a shock swoop for Bayern Munich star Leon Goretzka.
That is according to Bild, who claim that Goretzka has emerged as a potential target due to contract problems between the midfielder and Bayern.
The Germany international’s deal expires next year and talks have opened over an extension.
But the 26-year-old’s demands are reportedly giving the German champions a ‘headache.’
United are reportedly in the market for a central midfielder with West Ham star Declan Rice also posing as a top target
    SANCHO SITUATION
As you probably already know, Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund announced yesterday that a deal has been struck between them regarding Jadon Sancho.
Sancho will join United after Euro 2020 with the Manchester giants paying Dortmund £73million for the star winger.
And the England international is set to become United’s second-highest earner.
The 21-year-old will pen a five-year deal at Old Trafford worth £91million – or £350,000 per week.
That will see Sancho’s wages more than treble from the £100,000-per-week deal he is on at Dortmund
    MORNING MAN UTD FANS
Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund announced yesterday a deal has been agreed to take Jadon Sancho to Old Trafford after Euro 2020.
United will pay the Germans £73million for the England winger who will join when he is released from Three Lions duty.
Sancho is to become United’s second-highest earner.
He will pen a five-year deal at Old Trafford worth £91million – or £350,000 per week.
That will see his wages more than treble from the £100,000-per-week deal he is on at Dortmund.
And it will also see him among the very best-paid players in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.
Elsewhere, United want to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer.
The Red Devils are on the hunt for a new striker as a long-term No9 replacement for Romelu Lukaku.
And they have identified the Everton front man as the ideal candidate.
Calvert-Lewin, 24, enjoyed the best season of his career in 2020-21 with 21 goals in 39 appearances to be the Toffees’ crowned player of the year.
And finally, United are reportedly closing in on a deal for Real Madrid star Raphael Varane.
ESPN claim the Red Devils have received encouragement over a transfer for the France World Cup winner following a deal for Jadon Sancho.
The report adds that Varane is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top defensive target and Madrid are prepared to negotiate a realistic fee for the 28-year-old.
United are already said to have held ‘some discussions’ for the centre-back – whose contract at the Bernabeu is due to expire in June 2022.
And the club’s efforts to sign Varane have stepped up following France’s surprise round-of-16 exit at Euro 2020 against Switzerland.
United are allegedly confident that a deal can be done for around £43m – a sharp decrease from Madrid’s initial £60m valuation.
    SANSIBLE SIGNING
Manchester United icon Denis Irwin has heaped praise in Jadon Sancho after it was confirmed the club have agreed a deal to sign him.
The former left-back said: “Quality player, very clever, great pace and an eye for a goal.”
United have agreed a £73million deal to bring the England winger to Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund this summer.

    REDS FIXTURES
Manchester United welcome Leeds to Old Trafford to open next season’s Premier League campaign.
That’s followed by a trip to Southampton.
And the Red Devils finish their campaign with a visit from Chelsea before travelling to Crystal Palace on the final day.

    OH WHAT A PHIL-ING
Phil Jones has been a Manchester United player for ten years.
And the Red Devils were quick to praise the centre-back for his contributions with a video montage posted online.

    NEV-Y DUTY
Gary Neville has backed Mason Mount to return to the England team to face Ukraine after missing two Euro 2020 games in a row.
The Chelsea star, 22, was ruled out of the win over Czech Republic after being told to self-isolate before watching the Germany game from the bench.
Gareth Southgate also took a midfielder out of the Wembley triumph to set up with a back five, a decision he may reverse in Rome.
Former defender Neville picked his expected team for Saturday on Twitter and called on the Three Lions boss to use a 4-2-3-1 formation.
There has been a clamour for Jack Grealish to feature more heavily all tournament but the Manchester United legend opted for Mount instead.
Neville, 46, added that the Aston Villa playmaker ‘could’ feature having also preferred Phil Foden on the right wing.

A really good afternoon session for Mercedes with Max Verstappen third.
What does that mean for tomorrow?

And Hamilton has followed his team-mate into the gravel as well.
A bit of rain in the air too and could be a quiet last few minutes of this session.

    HOW WE STAND

Good pace from Vettel as well in the Aston Martin.
Lap times are starting to fall a bit this afternoon – halfway through the session.

Bottas goes fastest with a 1:05.6 – a tenth quicker than Max Verstappen.
And then Hamilton comes in with a 1:05/6 as well just a hair slower than his team-mate.
    Welcome to the party, Mercedes.

Verstappen fastest this morning and looking in the mood for an Austria double after last week’s win.
    FINAL PUSH
Just 10 minutes to go in what has been another Verstappen dominated session of racing.
The Ferraris have come good, though. Leclerc is second and Sainz third.

    GRASS IS GREENER
Bit of an error from Lance Stroll and he’s off onto the grass.
That’s what practice is for I suppose.

BENI IN FOR BEN – EXCLUSIVE
Everton have told Brighton they will pay £50million for Ben White – on the instruction of new boss Rafa Benitez.
Arsenal have been trying to persuade the Seagulls into selling them the England defender but have had trouble coming up with the money to match their valuation.
So Everton have moved straight in to tell Brighton that they will pay the guaranteed money they are looking for, and are now attempting to put together bonus packages to try to get the deal secured.
New boss Benitez highlighted signing a new central defender as one of the key areas to strengthen when he was in negotiations to take charge.
And he made it clear White, 23, is his number one choice and the Merseysiders would rather not mess around so told the Seagulls board they will match the £50m they are looking for.
In contrast, Arsenal have only gone as far as offering £42million guaranteed with a further £6m in add-ons, a bid that was quickly dismissed.

    FOOTING THE BILL
Norwich have landed Chelsea whizkid Billy Gilmour on a season-long loan.
The 20-year-old midfielder will sign for the Norfolk outfit when he completes his ten-day isolation period after testing positive for coronavirus at the Euros.
Norwich boss Daniel Farke has leaned on his good friend and Blues manager Thomas Tuchel to swing the deal in the Canaries’ favour after they worked together at Borussia Dortmund.
And with N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic all ahead of the youngster at Stamford Bridge, Tuchel has given the green light for Gilmour to earn some first team experience.
Wolves had been linked with a loan move for Gilmour after the youngster played just five Premier League games during the 2020-21 season.
Norwich have also managed to tie down Ben Gibson and Dimitris Giannoulis on permanent deals after successful loan spells.

    NU SIGNINGS
Tottenham could make a splash in the transfer market with just over five weeks until the start of the new Premier League campaign.
Spurs ended their lengthy search for a new managerial appointment by hiring Nuno Espirito Santo, who is actively looking to bolster his squad.
Here, SunSport take a look at the THREE most likely arrivals in North London, according to odds supplied by bookmakers Betfair.
    Conor Coady – 11/4
    Danny Ings – 7/2
    Anthony Martial – 7/1
    WALKER AWAY TO IRONS
Claudia Walker has sealed a move to Women’s Super League side West Ham becoming the club’s third summer signing.
The former Birmingham frontwoman follows Australia midfielder Tameka Yallop and ex-Glasgow City ace in joining the East London outfit.
And her departure comes days after Birmingham – who finished one place above the WSL’s drop zone – revealed the exit of three first-team players.
Sarah Mayling, 24, Mollie Green, 23, and England goalkeeper starlet Hannah Hampton, 20, have all left the club who ended last term in eleventh place in the league.
Walker, 25, netted five goals 21 top-flight appearances for Carla Ward’s former side helping them to avoid relegation to the Women’s Championship last term.

    REDS’ COUTI-NO
Philippe Coutinho dreams of rejoining Liverpool – but Jurgen Klopp is showing little interest and Leicester are his main Premier League suitors.
The Barcelona misfit, 29, is currently recovering from knee surgery and is still admired by Nou Camp boss Ronald Koeman.
But reports in Spain suggest the Brazil playmaker would love to recreate his peak period at Anfield, although Reds’ boss Klopp is not thought to be considering a bid.
Instead, a season’s loan elsewhere is tipped as a major option.
Inter Milan and the Foxes have been mentioned.
But it’s thought Koeman hopes Coutinho can be fit enough to fight for a regular starting spot at the Nou Camp.

    NEAR AND VAR
Manchester United are reportedly closing in on a deal for Real Madrid star Raphael Varane.

    MARC IT UP
Marco Silva is back in English football after taking over as Fulham boss.
The Cottagers moved quickly for the Portuguese following Scott Parker’s long-awaited exit on Monday.
Silva has signed a three-year deal with the West Londoners, who were relegated back to the Championship last season.
The former Everton boss, 43, said: “I’m really pleased and proud to be appointed Head Coach of such a historic football club.
“I want to thank the owner, Mr (Shahid) Khan, (director of football) Tony Khan and the entire football structure of Fulham Football Club, for the trust shown in us.
“I’m excited to get started and my message for our fans ahead of this big challenge is we will all be working very hard together to be successful so they can feel proud at the end of the season.”

    JA PAY TO PLAY
Jadon Sancho is set to become Manchester United’s second-highest earner after sealing a £73million move from Borussia Dortmund.
SunSport revealed last month that the England star had already agreed personal terms with the Red Devils, worth £350,000-a-week.
That will see his wages more than trebled from the £100,000-per-week deal he is on at Dortmund.
And it will also see Sancho – who will pen a five-year deal – among the very best-paid players in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.
David De Gea continues to top the list, raking in £375,000 per week – totalling £19.5million a year.
But Sancho would slide in ahead of Paul Pogba, with the Frenchman earning £290,000 per week.

    GUEN, NOT IF

And Marseille are edging closer to agreeing a deal to sign the midfielder, according to French journalist Alexis Bernard.
The Gunners initially wanted £17million but the Ligue 1 side did not want to pay more than £10m.
However, the North Londoners are said to have reduced their valuation and talks are ongoing.

    GET YOUR NEYM ON IT
Sergio Ramos is reportedly on the verge of signing for Paris Saint-Germain.
After 16 years at Real Madrid, the veteran defender became a free agent on Thursday and already has his eye on his next destination.
Manchester City and United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and PSG were all said to have been monitoring the Spaniard as his exit from Los Blancos became clear.
But it is Les Parisiens who have pulled ahead in the race for his signature, according to ESPN. Sporting director Leonardo is said to have accelerated talks in the middle of June and progress has been made this week.
It is claimed that a final decision on his future will be made in the coming days.
Former Clasico rival Neymar, described as a friend of Ramos, has also reportedly urged the player to make the switch to PSG.

    CAULKER OF A MOVE
Steven Caulker confirmed his switch to Turkish giants Fenerbahce following a two-year spell with Super Lig rivals Antalyaspor.
And the former Three Lions star expressed delight at joining Turkey’s ‘biggest club’ whose squad includes ex-Arsenal ace Mesut Ozil.
The free transfer follows an impressive stint for Caulker with Antalyaspor.
The centre-back, who rose through Tottenham’s ranks, helped the team to reach the 2020-21 Europa League qualifying rounds before their elimination by Rosenburg.
And Caulker’s move marks a remarkable turnaround for the former Tottenham and QPR ace who spoke to the BBC of his battles with gambling and drinking in the past.
The ex-England player shared the news of his switch with 21,0000 of his followers on Twitter describing his transfer as ‘a new chapter’ in a tweet caption.

    NAL AND VOID
Juventus insist Cristiano Ronaldo has not asked to leave this summer, dealing a blow to Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.
Ronaldo, 36, has been strongly linked with a Turin exit three years after joining from Real Madrid.
Former club Man Utd have been linked and French outfit PSG are also thought to be interested as they look to reclaim their Ligue 1 crown from Lille.
And it’s believed Ronaldo is available for just £25m should there be any serious bids. However, Juventus chief Federico Cherubini claims he is ‘happy’ with Ronnie’s presence at the club.
Cherubini said: “We’ve currently received no signal from Ronaldo to leave the club this summer.
“Same from our side. We’re happy to have Cristiano back with us once the new season will start.”

    RAM RAID
Arsenal are reportedly set to launch their bid to sign Aaron Ramsdale after his involvement in Euro 2020.
The Sheffield United keeper was called up into the England squad after the 1-0 win over Croatia as a replacement for injured Dean Henderson.
Ramsdale then emerged as a surprise name on Arsenal’s summer wanted list with the future of Bernd Leno unclear.
Yet according to the Star, any deal for the 23-year-old would have proved difficult while he was away with Gareth Southgate’s squad.
But the report adds that Arsenal are understood to have told the Blades to expect an offer for Ramsdale once the Euros are over.
The Gunners’ opening bid is said to likely fall short of United’s £40million price tag but will prove the club are serious about a deal.

    ON THE PAUL
Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit has slammed Paul Pogba following France’s Euro 2020 exit as he claimed he ‘lost the plot’ against Switzerland.
The World Cup champions crashed out at the last-16 stage after losing on penalties against Vladimir Petkovic’s men having squandered a two-goal lead.
Pogba thought he had banged in the winner for Les Bleus after his curling strike from distance nestled into the top right corner to put his side 3-1 up.
But a lapse in concentration moments later allowed Haris Seferovic to pull one back, before Mario Gavranovic fired in a dramatic stoppage time equaliser.
Petit has hit out at his compatriots for their early exit, as he told Paddy Power: “There was one incident – Pogba lost the ball for the second Swiss goal – and France collapsed.
“We lost everything. Concentration, team spirit, desire – and the tie. Worst of all, we started fighting on the pitch between ourselves. There was a big clash between Rabiot and Pogba, who lost the plot, after the second Swiss goal and from then on we had no control, no confidence.”

And although City were hoping the Bundesliga giants would hold on for nearer their original £120m asking price, Sancho’s valuation has steadily dipped over the past 12 months.
Dortmund and the Red Devils each confirmed on Thursday that United’s third offer for the 21-year-old England winger had been accepted.

    RIO ON SANCHO
Rio Ferdinand highlighted the strengths Sancho brings to Man Utd.
Speaking on his official YouTube channel Ferdinand said: “On the right hand side, and the left hand side, we haven’t got a winger who goes on the outside.
“Goes on the outside and crosses the ball. That’s what you need.
“He can play right-wing, left-wing, he can go both ways, he plays with both feet. But on that right wing, as well as Mason [Greenwood] has done, and I’m a massive Mason Greenwood fan, out there having a winger.
“This is Man United, always associated with wingers. Always have done over the years.
“Any of our most successful times there’s been wide players who can go on the outside and cross the ball.
“[Mason] wants goals, which is a good element, a good aspect, but Jadon gives you both options and for a full-back – terrible news.
“The element of going on the outside, beating the full-back and crossing it and then the Mason Greenwood’s, the Cavani’s, the Rashford’s coming in from the other side, we should be getting more goals from those scenarios this season.
“He will add to the attacking variety we have in a red shirt.”

According to ESPN, a deal is close to being finalised between the two clubs.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to bring in a solid centre-back partner for club captain Harry Maguire.

Paris Saint-Germain could have Europe’s top defenders quaking in their boots next season, writes RICHARD FORRESTER.
The French giants have already wasted little time in improving their squad this summer with some bargain additions.
Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is set to improve their goalkeeping situation by signing on a free transfer from AC Milan.
The 22-year-old has already played 251 times for the Italian side and earned 30 caps for his country.
He will be joined by Inter Milan right-back Achraf Hakimi who reportedly turned down Chelsea to join PSG.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side forked out a whopping £59.8million for his signature after missing out on the title last season.
Marquinhos and Presnel Kimpembe are likely to remain the rocks at the back with Layvin Kurzawa filling the left-back spot.
PSG could also welcome a new-look midfield of Paul Pogba and Georginio Wijnaldum.
Dutch international Wijnaldum has already signed on a free transfer from Liverpool while PSG are eager to press ahead with plans to sign Pogba.

Pogba can negotiate a free transfer with other clubs in January 2022.
And finally, Axel Tuanzebe could be en-route to Aston Villa for a third time this summer.
The defender has already had two loan spells at Villa and they’re reportedly keen to make it a treble, according to Football Insider.

Sancho has provided 41 assists, while also getting on the score sheet 37 times.

    TIME TO SHINE
Portugal may have crashed out of Euro 2020 – but Cristiano Ronaldo and Co. can still boast the most valuable watch collection.
Horology experts have calculated the combined value of timepieces from a host of European squads. The clear winner was Portugal with a watch collection estimated to exceed at least £5.4 million.
Ronaldo and his team-mates have personal collections including a Franck Muller Cintrée Tourbillon and a diamond set Breguet Double Tourbillon – estimated to be worth in excess of £1,000,000 and £560,000 respectively.
The report, compiled by pre-owned watch specialist Watchfinder & Co also revealed that France, who suffered a disappointing exit at the hands of Switzerland, have the second-most valuable collection at just over £1.9m.
Paul Pogba and Ousmane Dembele share an affinity for rare and expensive Patek Philippes, with Dembele enjoying a 5976 white gold Patek Chronograph, which was produced to celebrate 40 years of the Nautilus.
England, fresh from last-16 glory after beating Germany 2-0, placed third on the list with a collection estimated at approximately £1.8m.

    HOD PICK
Glenn Hoddle expects a ‘few changes’ to England’s starting XI that beat Germany when they face Ukraine this weekend.
The 63-year-old reckons the Three Lions have a good balance going in the Euro 2020 quarter-final, and Gareth Southgate will be reluctant to make too many changes.
While speaking to Betfair, the ex-England boss said: “Don’t be surprised if there’s a few changes.”
Despite the possible return of Phil Foden, Hoddle predicts Southgate will remain cautious.
He said: “I don’t think he’ll take the reins off against Ukraine. He’s got a balance and managers are always looking for balance.
“This England team aren’t conceding goals and the goalkeeper is having a really good tournament, so you go from there. We’ve got talent and goal scorers.”

    ODDS SLASHED
Raheem Sterling has emerged as the favourite to win the Best Player of the Tournament award at Euro 2020.
The winger scored both of England’s winners in the group stages and continued his red-hot form by netting the opener in the 2-0 win over Germany.
The Man City star was initially 40/1 to win the award before the tournament began.
And Sterling drifted as far as 66/1 in the bookies’ market after the goalless draw against Scotland.
But following his heroics against Germany, Betfair have Sterling at 6/1 to be named the player of the tournament.

Harry Kane has described the ‘pure elation’ he felt after scoring in England’s win over Germany on Tuesday.
The Three Lions striker had a quiet game until he popped up to make it 2-0 and seal England’s spot in the quarter-final.

    DARK HORSES
Switzerland could be the dark horses of Euro 2020 after knocking out world champions France on penalties in the Round of 16!

    ‘STRUCTURED AND DYNAMIC’
Belgium are wary of the threat Italy pose, and manager Roberto Martinez praised the host nation as ‘structured and dynamic’ ahead of tomorrow’s Euro 2020 quarter-final.
He said: “Italy will attack from the very first second; they will be very structured and dynamic.
    “Every player knows his role.
“The game against Portugal was a game that could have been played a lot further down the line; usually players don’t play these physical and intense games at this stage of the tournament.
“Luckily, we have enough days to recover and prepare.”
Thorgan Hazard – who’s goal won Belgium’s Round of 16 match against Portugal – has admitted that Italy will be Belgium’s biggest test in the competition so far.
Hazard said: “Italy will be the toughest opponent we’ve met so far.
“They’ve had a good run of wins and it will be a nice challenge for us to end that sequence.
“Their style may suit us more than Portugal. They are enterprising so we may be able to profit from the open spaces, but it definitely won’t be any easier.”

    GAT’S GOOD NEWS
Lions Boss Warren Gatland has agreed to move their mid-week game against The Sharks to set-up a potential mid-week marathon of sport, writes JONNY FORDHAM.
Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions are looking to reach the semi-finals of Euro 2020 at the same time as the Lions kick-off in Johannesburg.
The second game of the tour in South Africa is due to kick-off at 7pm UK time.
But that clashes with a possible huge showdown for England.
So TV bosses both here and back at home have come together to allow changes to give sports fans around the world a huge weekday hit.
SunSport understands that talks are on-going between Lions suits, SkySports and SuperSport in South Africa.
An insider said: “It’s a decision with the fans best interests at heart; it ensures everyone can watch both games.”
    SHEAR JOY
Alan Shearer has told Gareth Southgate he’s ‘proud’ of him and insisted he never blamed him for his Euro 96 penalty miss, writes GARY STONEHOUSE.
The England boss gained redemption on Tuesday as his Three Lions beat Germany 2-0 at Wembley to set-up a quarter-final showdown with Ukraine.
That stunning victory occurred almost 25 years to the day that Southgate famously missed in the semi-final shoot-out defeat to the same nation.
Southgate said after this week’s triumph: “I can’t change the fact that the guys I played with in 96 didn’t get to play in a final. That will always live with me.
“But what this group of players have been able to do is give a new generation a lot of happy memories and another afternoon where they’ve made a bit of history.”

    QUARTER-FINALISTS
Ukraine are into the quarter-finals of Euro 2020, one of their best ever returns at a major International tournament.
And they’re being led by Ukrainian football legend Andriy Shevchenko.

    GERMAN MINISTER BLAST BIG CROWDS
German minister Horst Seehofer has blasted UEFA for having large crowds at Euro 2020.
Seehofer blasted the decision as (Reuters) “utterly irresponsible” given the spread of the Delta Covid-19 variant.
The minister believes that UEFA’s decision was commercially-driven.
And that it shouldn’t rank above public health concerns.
    DON’T GO
England fans have been told not to travel to Rome for Saturday’s Euro 2020 quarter-final.
And English fans will be banned from the stadium even if they have tickets for the match.
Italy is on the UK’s amber list, and anyone travelling to the country has to isolate for five days.
A statement issued by the Italian embassy in London on Thursday said: “anybody who has been in the UK in the previous 14 days, irrespective of their nationality or residency will not be admitted to the stadium, even if they have a ticket”.
    RAHEEM THE DREAM
Raheem Sterling is England’s top-scorer at Euro 2020, finding the back of the net three times!
England now face Ukraine in Rome on Saturday.

    ‘HE IS A FIGHTER’
England manager Gareth Southgate gas hailed Raheem Sterling as a ‘fighter’.
He said: “Raheem was probably the only one of the players to come back from the World Cup with a different feeling — and I talked to him at length about that.
“Seville was a real lift-off moment for him. You could see it. He almost jumped into the second tier of the stadium if you look at the celebration that night of his goal.
“I really feel that was a significant moment for him. Of course he had been scoring for his club — but he had not been able to translate that.
“Now I think he feels happy in our environment, feels he can be himself, and knows the respect we have for him. His performances in every game this tournament has seen him become a huge threat to every opponent.
“He is a fighter. He has got an incredible resilience and hunger. He has developed over the last couple of years this real hunger to score.
“Even in the games earlier in the tournament where the ball has flashed across the box, he was there between the posts.
“He is finding himself in these areas and his drive is fantastic. We know the journey he has been on with England — and I am so happy for him to be able to deliver the performances he has.”

    FINAL EIGHT
There’s now just eight teams left in the competition.
And England have a really, really good chance of making the final this year.
The final is also on home soil, at Wembley!
But first, Southgate’s men have to get past Ukraine in Rome, Italy.

    EURO 2020 NEWS
England boss Gareth Southgate has revealed he was a ‘party pooper’ in the dressing room after the heroic win over Germany.
He said: “I thought it was a brilliant afternoon. We’ve talked about bringing enjoyment to the nation and this afternoon was what that’s all about.
“The players were absolutely immense, right the way through the team, and the fans were as well. There were only 40,000 but it was as good an atmosphere as I can remember at Wembley.
“But I was the party pooper in the dressing room – I just said that it means nothing if we don’t capitalise on Saturday now. We’ve given people another day to remember, and now we’ve got to do it in Rome.”
Meanwhile, England have been handed a Euro 2020 boost with the news that Ukraine star Artem Besedin has been ruled OUT of their quarter-final clash.
Besedin was the victim of a horror challenge from Marcus Danielson that saw the Swedish defender shown a straight red card.
Besedin has returned home for treatment and is out of the rest of the tournament should Ukraine beat England.
The centre-forward came off the bench for Ukraine in three of their four matches at Euro 2020.
In other news, Alan Shearer has hailed Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka as England’s best player.
The Newcastle legend said: “England need more players like that.
“He’s been so brave, when someone’s marking him tightly he still wants the ball. I think he’s been our best player.”
And finally, Germany midfielder Toni Kroos is set to retire from international football after Germany’s exit from Euro 2020.
Bild are reporting that he is expected to announce his retirement soon, despite the World Cup in Qatar just a year away.
    OBERHAUL
Germany have responded to their crushing last-16 defeat to England by launching ‘Project Future’.
The beaten Germans’ project is aimed at reviving their flagging fortunes — and finally producing a world class centre-forward again.
National team director Oliver Bierhoff says it is unacceptable that the country failed to make it to the quarter-finals at Euro 2020 on the back of their embarrassing group-stage exit at the last World Cup.
He said: “We cannot be satisfied with dropping out at the round of 16 stage. England were a beatable team, but they were better than us on the night — that said we need and want to get back to the world elite.
“So, we cannot be satisfied with our own performance — we’re disappointed.”

    GLASSES HOUSES FULL
An England fan who wrecked his glasses celebrating the Euro 2020 win over Germany has been leant a helping hand by Harry Kane.
The Three Lions captain headed home the second goal of Tuesday’s memorable 2-0 win at Wembley.
And the ensuing mayhem across the country led to one supporter’s glasses getting scratched to oblivion.
Billy Taylor tweeted that he was planning a trip to Specsavers for a new pair after the game.
But the opticians, who have run numerous ads backing England’s trophy bid this summer, were quick to lay down a challenge for Billy to bag a free replacement.
If striker Kane retweeted the picture of his smashed lenses, he would receive the new pair free of charge.
And the classy captain duly obliged, with Specsavers confirming his reward via Twitter.

    FORWARD THINKING
England boss Gareth Southgate has spoke of his delight that forwards Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane scored against Germany.
Sterling now has three goals in Euro 2020, while Tottenham ace Kane opened his account for the tournament.
Southgate said: “I was pleased for both of them because they both have to prove people wrong all the time.
“Raheem has been immense for us over a three or four-year period. He knows he has our trust and his performances have been electric.
“It was a really important moment for Harry, I think.
“It doesn’t matter what else you’re doing in the game as a forward, you need those goals so I was pleased to see the second one go in, I have to say.”
    LION TAMER
Gareth Southgate has revealed he was a ‘party pooper’ in the dressing room after the heroic win over Germany.
The Three Lions sent the nation into one huge party on Tuesday night after KO’ing the old enemy at Wembley.

His mum Veronique, who is also his agent, has come under fire for arguing with the families of Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe in the stands after the final whistle.
Although the Juventus star has featured 62 times in Serie A since his move from Paris Saint-Germain in July 2019, reports claim the club are willing to let him leave for just £17million.

The Swede told Ladbrokes: “During my time as England manager, I had contact with Manchester United and then Chelsea.

    MULLER SPEAKS OUT
Thomas Muller has spoken out after Germany’s loss against England in the Round of 16 at Euro 2020.
Muller missed a glorious chance late on to level the game.
The 31-year-old was played through on goal by Havertz, after Sterling’s lazy backpass was intercepted.
But Muller failed to fire the ball past Pickford, who made himself big in between the sticks.
The Bayern star took to Instagram saying: “There it was, that one moment that you will remember in the end, that brings you to sleep at night.
“For whom you work, train and live as a footballer. That moment when you have it in your own hands to bring your team back into a close knockout game and to send an entire football nation into ecstasy.
“Getting this opportunity and then leaving it idle hurts me as hell.
“It hurts for the whole @dfb_team, my teammates and our coach, who all gave me the confidence to be there right then.
“But above all, it hurts because of all the Germany fans out there who stood by us and supported us during this European Championship, despite the difficult omens!
    “Thanks for your support.”

“For the team-mates that played with me, I can’t change that [the penalty miss].

Can England fans travel to Rome for the quarter-final?
England fans are allowed to enter Italy, but they won’t be able to watch the game.
That’s because anybody who arrives from the UK to the country, or has been in the UK for the past 14 days, will be ordered to self-isolate for five days.
To get into Italy, you need to take a rapid test in the 48 hours before travelling and a further rapid test after five days to end your self-isolation.
And reports suggest Italian police will intensify checks on motorways and at the country’s borders to stop England fans travelling to the game.

After the game, Shevchenko said: “England are a great team, they have a deep bench, an outstanding coaching staff and we are fully aware how tough this game is going to be.
“I saw all their three group matches, not today’s win over Germany because we had to prepare for our own game with Sweden.
“They are incredibly difficult to score against but their strength shouldn’t scare us.
“It should motivate us because everything is possible in football as in life and we will play our hearts out to give our fans even more to cheer about.”

    RICE RICE BABY
England midfielder Declan Rice is keen for England to kick on and make history.
Rice told the BBC: “It’s incredible.
“If you look at the group stages, a lot of people had written us off…. complaints about the performances … not scoring enough goals.
“You read a load of things but as players you put them to the back of your mind but you want to prove people wrong.
“I think today with a full house, everybody had that fire in their belly to go out there and for one, knock Germany out of the tournament and two, for us to progress to the next round.
    “It’s history.
“In the press conferences all week players have been asked about past games with Germany but we’ve created our own little bit of history today.
“We’ve made the most of our opportunity today and it was a pleasure to be out there on the pitch.”

    GOOD MORNING ENGLAND FANS
England booked their place in the quarter finals of Euro 2020 with a thrilling 2-0 win over Germany.
Goals from Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane sealed the incredible result at Wembley.
It was England’s first knockout win over Germany in 55 years.
And fans partied into the night as they celebrated the historic occasion.
Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions will now travel to Rome for Saturday’s quarter-final tie, which kicks off at 8pm.
And they will face Ukraine, who beat Sweden 2-1 with a dramatic extra-time winner just moments before the game was due to go to a penalty shootout.
Jack Grealish, who starred off the bench, said he ‘loved’ beating Germany.
The Aston Villa captain beamed: “I loved it. It’s always nice when the fans are calling your name but it’s not about me, it’s about the team.
“I came on and just tried to create. I came on and played a part in the first goal and got the assist for the second so I think it was a good performance from myself.”
Meanwhile, goalscorer Sterling exclaimed: “We knew we needed to put a big performance in against a very good German side and I thought we done that today.
“Scoring for your country is always special and it’s definitely a special moment for me.”
And manager Southgate added: “We had to go about it in the way we believed. We wanted aggressive pressure all over the field and we felt that to match them up was the right way of doing that.
“We also defended brilliantly and our goalkeeper was immense. It was a tremendous performance.”
    EXCLUSIVE FROM JOSE MOURINHO
I’m packing my bags for Rome and singing ‘It’s Coming Home’.
England are ready for everything and I will be really disappointed if they don’t get to the final.
But I still think the Three Lions need to learn what Harry Kane wants and needs.
He has so much more to offer his country.
