The Argentine returned from injury to play a starring role in the Wembley showpiece.

“He made the difference on this game by playing passes through our defence.”

MANCHESTER UNITED fans are convinced Erik ten Hag has found the next Kobbie Mainoo after their FA Cup win.
Mainoo has been a breakout star this season after watching United’s last cup win – the 2023 Carabao Cup – from the Wembley stands.
After that final Ten Hag spoke to him on the pitch with his arm around his shoulder, and appeared to be sharing some tactical insight with the youngster.
Fast forward 15 months and the United boss did the same with another young Red Devils midfielder – Toby Collyer.
Ten Hag was seen pointing towards the pitch directing Collyer before shaking hands with the 20-year-old and embracing him.
Collyer is yet to make his first-team debut for United but did feature for the Under-21s this season.
He joined from Brighton in 2021 and fans think he is ready to follow in Mainoo’s footsteps.

Christian Eriksen will be handed the chance to rejoin first club Ajax this summer — if Manchester United agree to a pay-off.
But the Danish midfielder, 32, is set to sit tight until Erik ten Hag’s future is sorted, in case his old Spurs gaffer Mauricio Pochettino comes in.
Eriksen has 12 months left on his £150,000-a-week contract but United are keen to get some of the higher earners off the books to help fund Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s planned rebuild.
United would not ask for a fee for Eriksen as long as that is factored into any agreement over the remainder of his contract.
Copy linkCopiedErik bites back at rumours
Erik ten Hag issued a defiant response after being questioned over his future in the wake of Man Utd’s FA Cup triumph.
He said: “Two trophies in two seasons and three finals. That’s not bad.
“If they don’t want me any more I go somewhere else to win trophies. That is what I do.
“I am here to win and I want to build a team. My whole managerial career I have won games and trophies.”

Ex-United winger Dan James wants to be the main man to fire Leeds back into the Premier League – despite his penalty heartache for Wales.
The speedster missed the crucial kick against Poland as Wales missed out on qualification for Euro 2024.
But James is ready to step up from 12 yards at Wembley this afternoon.
He told SunSport: “When taking a penalty, you make up your mind where to shoot and stick with it.
“You’ve got to be confident and trust all the tips and tricks you’ve learned down the years.
“But we’ve all also got to be mentally and physically ready after 120 minutes.
“You’re going to be tired mentally so it’s important to relax.
“When I scored the penalty in the Europa League final, there were no fans because it was during Covid, so it’ll be much different with 90,000 at Wembley on Sunday.
“Having the penalty saved for Wales was disappointing. There’s always going to be someone who misses and unfortunately it was me that night. It only makes you stronger.”

Jim Ratcliffe says he wants to find a new superstar rather than fork out millions.
And the Ineos billionaire has been good to his word with SunSport revealing Old Trafford’s recruitment team are now going after 16-year-old Blackburn striker Igor Tyjon.
United’s move comes after we told you about their swoop for Port Vale forward Baylee Dipepa, 17.
And they are also in the running for Aussie right-back James Overy, 16, ahead of rivals Everton and West Ham.
Tyjon has already been on Rovers’ first team bench and their plans to tie him down are boosted by the fact that he wants to play senior football for them first.
Blackburn picked up Tyjon from Rochdale and will demand the biggest fee possible amid fears United will come in hard for the teenager.

Erik ten Hag appears to have secured his Manchester United – at least until next week.
The Dutchman was expected to be sacked regardless of the result in the FA Cup final.

However, that may only be for another few days because United chiefs are planning to conduct a season review.

Van de Beek hoped to rediscover his old Ajax form with the German side, having failed to impress on loan at Everton two years ago.
But the midfielder was only able to feature in eight matches for the Bundesliga side.
And Frankfurt rejected the chance to make his stay permanent after snubbing a clause for just £9.5million.

    Copy linkCopiedTen Hag’s x-rated outburst
ERIK TEN HAG gave an X-rated answer as he spoke following Manchester United’s FA Cup victory.
The Red Devils boss did not hold back as he described a previous performance from his side.
United were thrashed 4-0 by Crystal Palace earlier this month on their way to an eight placed finish in the Premier League.
However, he hailed his team’s response since that defeat after United beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final on Saturday.
Following the win, Ten Hag spoke to MUTV and was asked about his players’ “brilliant” display against City.
In response, he said: “I’m proud as well, firstly for the players, the staff, they did an incredible job, and the fans. The whole season.
“I remember Crystal Palace a couple of weeks ago when we played s*** and they backed us.
“They backed us and they are incredible. I said last week after Newcastle, they are the best fans in the world so I am really grateful.”

Erik Ten Hag was “like a proud father” as he embraced his two teenage Manchester United FA Cup heroes.
Fans were moved as captain Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford burst into tears after their epic triumph.
But fans were moved by more nice scenes that were caught on camera as Ten Hag, who Sir Jim Ratcliffe refused to back even after the cup victory, got hold of his two teenage matchwinners.
The clip showed the boss place a hand on each of Garnacho and Mainoo’s cheeks as he then pointed at them and pulled them both in for a cuddle as they smiled.

Erik Ten Hag has issued a defiant response to rumours he could be sacked by Manchester United.
The Red Devils boss’ future has been in doubt for several weeks following their disappointing season.

“If they don’t want me any more I go somewhere else to win trophies. That is what I do.”
Copy linkCopiedTen Hag’s dig at Keane
ERIK TEN HAG took a brutal dig at Roy Keane’s managerial record after guiding Manchester United to FA Cup glory.
The Dutch tactician could not resist taking a sly dig at Keane, who was working as a pundit at Wembley.
Keane said to him: “You must be proud of them, we’ve always questioned players about their quality at Man United, but character and leadership.
“They showed character today – which I had questioned, and a lot of people have…you shouldn’t listen to them pundits anyway! Take no notice of the pundits.”
Ten Hag replied: “But you told me!”
eane, pointing at fellow pundits Ian Wright and Joleon Lescott, then joked: “No, them two!” Ten Hag hit back by saying: “You had trouble to manage a team!”
That led to Keane saying: “Ah, I won a Championship with Sunderland…give me some praise, ah come on! You’re too harsh on me!”
Ten Hag then tried to explain “what I said to you” before Keane interrupted him to say “I agree” as both men smiled.
    Copy linkCopiedTen Hag’s tactical masterplan
ERIK TEN HAG’S tactical tweak outfoxed Pep Guardiola as he deployed an unsung Manchester United hero in a shock new position.
The Dutchman secured his second trophy as Man City were trumped 2-1 in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
Goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo secured victory for United on Saturday.
The Red Devils kept City at bay for most of the match, with the Premier League champions unable to make an impact until Jeremy Doku’s goal in the 87th minute.
And it was all down to a brilliant tactical tweak from Ten Hag involving fan favourite Scott McTominay.
The Scot is usually deployed as a box-to-box midfielder and occasionally even plays as a No10.
But in the FA Cup final, McTominay formed part of a front two with Bruno Fernandes.

He knew nothing about it and his arm was in a completely natural position. You just wondered if Rangers would be able to sustain their level of intensity. And it seemed certain that Celtic would raise their game after Rodgers sat them down and gave them a firm reminder of what was at stake. But nothing changed.Clement’s decision to take off Dessers and replace him with Abdallah Sima gave Rangers a more dynamic edge to their attack. The substitute didn’t waste any time in getting involved, either. After clashing with Alistair Johnston on the touchline, he went into the ref’s book.Seconds later he was wiped out by Scales as he tried to support Cantwell bursting forward on the break.Rangers’ Abdallah Sima scores a goal before it was disallowedBut it was in 58 minutes that Sima was involved in the game’s biggest moment of controversy.A corner delivered into the mix reached the back post where he knocked the ball over the line with his knee. The Rangers team and supporters went wild thinking they were half an hour away from glory. But they were soon raging when a VAR check ruled out the goal with Raskin found guilty of shoving Joe Hart in the back inside the crowded six yard box.Even them, Celtic didn’t show signs of waking up.Clement did more tinkering with Cantwell and Fabio Silva taken off when they were still having an impact. The same with the immense Sterling.Cantwell even picked up a yellow card on his way off after reacting to something Greg Taylor said to him when his number went up.With extra-time looming, Rodgers must have been thinking about what he was going to say to life his players because whatever he said at half-time hadn’t worked. But in the 90th minute there was no need.Rangers sub Scott Wright failed to read a threaded ball through to him and suddenly the break was on for Celtic.Paulo Bernardo burst forward and drilled a shot which swerved so much Jack Butland could only parry.Idah the reacted quicker than anyone around him to slam the ball into the back of the net. Manchester United have won the FA Cup!
Andy Madley calls time following one last burst upfield from Rasmus Hojlund, and one half of Wembley explodes with delight.
Erik ten Hag runs on to the pitch in celebration, embraced with Lisandro Martinez, and then recaptures his composure.
A handshake and a hug with Pep Guardiola follows, but then the Dutchman can have his moment – his greatest as Manchester United manager, and most probably his last.
Manchester has been blue for a decade, but it will be painted red tonight!

90+6. City push forward but the ball won’t stick for Alvarez on the far side.
It’s Manchester United flags being flown around Wembley. It’s Manchester United voices that can be heard.
Copy linkCopiedMan City 1-2 Man Utd
90+4. United make two more changes, both as a means of reenforcing the defensive banks and eating up a few seconds.
Victor Lindelof and Mason Mount are the men called for as Scott McTominay and Alejandro head off.
Copy linkCopied Man City 1-2 Man Utd
90+2. Doku – who else? – wins Manchester City a corner.
City pack the box, ready for the inswinger from the left.
    It comes over…
…and Onana grasps it with both hands.
Copy linkCopiedMan City 1-2 Man Utd
    90. There will be seven minutes of stoppage time to be played.
Seven minutes left for Manchester City to defend their FA Cup.
    Send for Paul Dickov.

    89. It’s all Manchester City now as they pass it around outside the United box, looking for one vital opening.
It eventually falls at the feet of Manuel Akanji, who inexplicably slams it over from 25 yards out.
Copy linkCopiedMan City 1-2 Man Utd
    87. With three minutes remaining, Manchester City have got one back!
And it’s no surprise that it’s Jeremy Doku who has given them late hope – albeit thanks to a huge helping hand from Andre Onana.
The City substitute bursts across the penalty area from the left and lets fly with a right-footer towards the bottom corner.
It should be saved by Onana diving to his right, but the goalkeeper is only able to ease the ball into the net at the near post.
In the stands, Sir Alex Ferguson looks at his watch. City couldn’t, could they?

    85. Five. Minutes. To. Go.
Copy linkCopiedMan City 0-2 Man Utd
    83. City are going nowhere. Literally. It’s giving Lee Dixon time to discuss how scruffy Sofyan Amrabat is.
Copy linkCopiedMan City 0-2 Man Utd
    81. At the other end, Fernandes whips a free-kick from a similar position straight into the body of Ortega.
There’s no disappointment from those in red, however, as they rush back into their shape.
Less than ten minutes of normal time remain.
Copy linkCopiedMan City 0-2 Man Utd
    79. Amrabat is – harshly – adjudged to have fouled Doku just outside of the penalty area.
The United players are furious with the decision which presents a free-kick to City in a very dangerous position.
Alvarez and Foden deliberate over the set-piece for an age before the latter slams a shot straight into the wall.
Copy linkCopied Man City 0-2 Man Utd
    77. Walker forces Onana into another save, this time with a low drive.
The United goalkeeper does well to block, but pushes the ball back into the penalty area.
Before Haaland can act, however, the striker is flagged offside.
Copy linkCopiedMan City 0-2 Man Utd
    75. Quarter of an hour remains at Wembley…
…unless City can somehow force extra-time.
Are Pep Guardiola’s team running out of ideas? It’s very much give the ball to Doku and hope at the moment.

    73. Jonny Evans and Rasmus Hojlund finally make it on with Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford taking a well-earned rest.
Copy linkCopiedMan City 0-2 Man Utd
    72. Man Utd are going to make their changes now, and Lisandro Martinez will take his leave.
However, City captain Kyle Walker believes the United defender isn’t taking it quick enough, and reacts furiously.
The pair clash and go chest-to-chest with plenty of chat and finger pointing to boot.
Copy linkCopiedMan City 0-2 Man Utd
    70. Here’s an FA Cup Final throwback.
Lisandro Martinez has gone down with cramp. You don’t see that much these days unless players are trying to waste time.
Copy linkCopiedMan City 0-2 Man Utd
    68. Garnacho tests Ortega with a drive towards the near post.
City’s stand-in goalie keeps it out although perhaps with less certainty than he should have.
Copy linkCopiedMan City 0-2 Man Utd
    66. Manchester United’s coaching staff are busy in the dugout and preparing changes, one of which was due to involve Jonny Evans on for Lisandro Martinez.
However, Martinez has determinedly told the bench that he does not want to come off and is fit enough to play on.
Copy linkCopiedMan City 0-2 Man Utd
    64. Alvarez in on goal again…
…and again he passes up the opportunity.
Neat build-up play from City unlocks the United defence, only for the Argentine to sidefoot wide – and well wide, it has to be said – when confronted with only Onana.
Copy linkCopied Man City 0-2 Man Utd
    62. Manchester United are dropping deeper and deeper and deeper.
And they were pretty deep to begin with.
Copy linkCopiedMan City 0-2 Man Utd
    61. Chance for Alvarez! Over!
City’s latest substitute blasts over in a hurry after a loose defensive touch just inside the area had presented him with a big opportunity.
Copy linkCopiedMan City 0-2 Man Utd
    59. Walker from long range! Great save by Onana!
The Manchester City captain takes matters into his own hands – or onto his own right foot – with a fierce 30-yard drive, but it’s one met by the incredibly strong left hand of the Manchester United goalkeeper.
Copy linkCopiedMan City 0-2 Man Utd – Man City substitution
    56. A third change for Manchester City, and it’s the most surprising so far.
Kevin De Bruyne has been hauled off by his manager, and on in the Belgian’s place is Julian Alvarez.
Copy linkCopiedMan City 0-2 Man Utd
    54. Haaland hits the crossbar!
It’s the first time today that the City striker has had sight of goal, and he goes agonisingly close to halving the deficit.
Again, Doku is the catalyst, crossing low from the left, and Haaland responds with a first time strike back across goal and on to the underside of the woodwork.

LAWRENCE OKOLIE beat Lukasz Rozanski in the first round to win the WBC bridgerweight title. Okolie landed flush right hand after flush right hand and floored Rozanksi three times before the referee waved the fight off with just five seconds left of the first round.
    Ring-walk time: 10pm BST
    Stream: Sky Sports Arena
    Okolie shows true punch power
In this new weight division, bridgerweight, it is designed to fill the gap between cruiserweight and heavyweight.
Okolie showed that his punching stands him in good stead for going up to the heavyweight class but he needs to be able to take those big hits also.
He was dropped three times in his last fight and although was not tested tonight, he will need to work on that in the future.
You won’t knock everyone out in the first round after all.
Copy linkCopiedRozanski claims ‘rabbit punch’ ruined fight
Lukasz Rozanski continued to keep tapping his gloves to the back of his head, even after the fight had been called.
The champion appeared to reference a punch to the back of the head during a clinch with Okolie.
Whether it affected him enough to cost him the fight is highly debatable as he was rocked by each of the three punches Okolie threw to knock him to the canvas.

It was a good performance from Lawrence Okolie as he looked to bring the fireworks to the champion from the off.
He was landing good punches and it was evident his opponent was not a boxer used to receiving such big hits in such an accurate way.
The final punch that won the fight, a huge uppercut really hurt Rozanski and the referee made the right choice in stopping the fight.

Going into his last fight, Lawrence Okolie was full of confidence that he could get a pivotal win to propel his boxing career.
Instead, after being knocked down three times, losing the fight has seriously set his career back.
You have to wonder if he does not win this evening, whether it may be the end of the road for the British boxer.

Lawrence Okolie has not been in the ring for almost exactly 12 months.
The creation of this division and subsequent title has given him a chance that he did not expect to come along again.
After his defeat in his last fight, Okolie can answer his critics if he can beat Rozanski in his own back yard.

Despite his impressive career record, many pundits are expecting a knockout victory for Okolie.
All of this off the back of his last fight, where he himself hit the canvas three times.
With his ferocious attacking boxing, it is seen that Okolie will just have too much for the Polish boxer.

Lukasz Rozanski is unbeaten in his boxing career to date.
Only two of his previous fights have even seen the sixth round.

Okolie has spoken about the threat of his opponent tonight:
I’m expecting it to be very hostile but I’ll just blank it out. If anything, this particular fight is going to fuel me, especially the way I feel like I need to and want to fight. I know what he’s going to come with, we’ve seen it 15 times, he goes all out, I’ll show him he’s in there with a different animal. Diogo Dalot wants this to be the last time Manchester United enter a cup final as the underdogs.
You shouldn’t be the underdog when you’re at Manchester United.
We want to be the team in the future that everyone thinks is going to win automatically.
So for me it gives me energy, because I don’t want to be in that position.
I’ve been at this club for a while now and I want to feel that feeling of dominance in every game and in every competition we play, everywhere we go.Diogo Dalot

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag refused to be drawn on his future after being asked if Saturday’s FA Cup final will be his last game in charge.
Mauricio Pochettino, Graham Potter and Thomas Tuchel are all candidates to take Ten Hag’ job.
    I have nothing to say.
I’m just focusing on the job I have to do and that is first win the game on Saturday and then the project, to keep going with the project.Erik ten Hag

Diogo Dalot has told Manchester United suffering supporters – we owe you the FA Cup.
I’m going to be really honest with you, after that game against [Crystal] Palace, the way the fans were supporting us, it was almost like a feeling that we didn’t deserve that.
After you concede four goals against Palace, a 4-0 defeat, they were still there, pushing us, after the awful game we had.
This is the type of thing that shows why these fans are special. Every time there is a Man Utd game, they always think something special will happen, and that’s the beautiful thing about this club.
There are always expecting something special so we’re going into the game on Saturday to try to give them a special afternoon and realise this special feeling that they always feel is going to happen.Diogo Dalot

Manchester United ace Harry Maguire is out of the FA Cup Final with injury.
Erik ten Hag looks set to gamble with Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane at centre-back against Manchester City despite their lack of game time.
Maguire has not played since April 27th when he suffered an unspecified muscle injury.
Argentine World Cup winner Martinez has started just one game since February while Varane’s last start was when he played the first half against Chelsea at the end of last month.
The injury to Maguire is not believed to be bad enough to keep him out of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the up and coming Euros.

England boss Gareth Southgate revealed his decision to axe Manchester United ace Marcus Rashford from his Euro 2024 squad wasn’t easy.
These are of course difficult calls.
You are talking about players that are very important players.
With Marcus, in that area of the pitch, I feel that other players have had better seasons, it’s as simple as that.Gareth Southgate

Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi is wanted by Manchester United this summer.
According to The Guardian, Guehi would cost United around £60million.
The centre-back is part of England’s provisional squad for Euro 2024 after returning from a knee injury.
The 23-year-old has two years remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park.
Copy linkCopiedPochettino could replace Ten Hag
Mauricio Pochettino has emerged as the strong favourite to become Manchester United’s next manager after his shock departure from Chelsea.
United boss Erik ten Hag’s job might not be safe even if his team beats Manchester City on Saturday in the FA Cup final.
According to The Times, Pochettino would be interested in talking to the Red Devils if Ten Hag was sacked.
Departing Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel, Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna and ex-Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi are also well placed for the Old Trafford hotseat.

Atalanta 3 Leverkusen 0: Charlton kid Lookman nets amazing hat-trick in Dublin to ruin Alonso’s dream of unbeaten Treble

CHARLTON kid Ademola Lookman’s breathtaking hat-trick inflicted Bayer Leverkusen’s first defeat in FIFTY-TWO games to clinch the Europa League title. The script had been written that Xabi Alonso’s German side, who went the entire league campaign unbeaten to lift the Bundesliga, would make it a double with victory in Dublin.Ademola Lookman inspired Atalanta with a hat-trickCredit: GettyBayer Leverkusen’s unbeaten run came to an endCredit: ReutersYet former Addicks, Everton, Fulham and Leicester man Lookman, 26, clearly did not read it as he left Alonso and his invincibles stunned at the Aviva Stadium. The former England Under-21 star broke the deadlock on 21 minutes, acting quickest to lash home Davide Zappacosta’s cross into the top corner. His second on 26 minutes was a thing of beauty, as he cut in from the left and curled into the far corner.Bizarrely, Alonso had begun the game without a recognised striker. But even when bringing on top-scorer Victor Boniface, it made no difference as Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta side continued their dominance.Leverkusen have come back in dramatic fashion in plenty of games this season to keep their unbeaten status intact. But any hopes of that happening here were dashed when Lookman, who now plays internationally for Nigeria, blasted into the top corner with his weaker left foot with 15 minutes to go.Lookman – known in the Premier League for his infamous botched Panenka for Fulham – became the first ever player to score a hat-trick in the Europa League final.BEST FREE BET SIGN UP OFFERS FOR UK BOOKMAKERSLookman goes from Panenka laughing stock to European hat-trick hero
ADEMOLA LOOKMAN will go down in Atalanta, and European football, folklore after his stunning Europa League final hat-trick vs Bayer Leverkusen.
Lookman’s treble was the first in the final of a Uefa competition since 1975.
But some Premier League fans won’t have believed their eyes – after witnessing his infamous Panenka miss for Fulham.
Lookman was spotted playing Sunday league in Lambeth by Charlton just TEN YEARS ago, at the age of 16.
Just one year later, in 2015, he was already the Addicks’ best player, shining on the wing in the Championship.
And before he knew it, Lookman was a Premier League player after a massive £11million move to Everton.
Lookman, now 20, made an instant impact, scoring on his debut in 4-0 thrashing of Manchester City.
He even won the U20s World Cup with England, netting three goals in the tournament.
But he struggled to earn regular football with the Toffees, before defying boss Sam Allardyce’s wishes by snubbing a loan to Derby to push through a move to RB Leipzig instead.
Lookman impressed in the Bundesliga with five goals and earned a permanent move.
But he again failed to settle and soon found himself back in the Prem on loan with Fulham
His spell at Craven Cottage saw moments of brilliance overshadowed by costly mistakes.
None more so than his ill-fated Panenka penalty against West Ham.
Lookman’s scuffed chipped effort dropped tamely into motionless Lukasz Fabianski’s waiting hands, leading to widespread criticism and ridicule from fans and pundits alike.
A loan at Leicester followed but it was a switch to Atalanta in Serie A which saw Lookman finally fulfil his potential.
Now playing international football for Nigeria, he helped them reach the Afcon final earlier this year.
But he didn’t have to wait long to add his first senior trophy as the undisputed man-of-the-match in Dublin against the previous unbeatable Leverkusen.

And Atalanta won their second EVER trophy – some 61 years after their first, the Coppa Italia. To do so by beating a team who have gone the entire season unbeaten up until this point is even more impressive.Xabi Alonso announces he will stay at Bayer Leverkusen after showdown talks with clubBut it’s not all doom and gloom for Leverkusen who now have a chance to right their wrongs in the German Cup final this weekend. They face second division side FC Kaiserslautern in the final on Saturday – a game that would still crown them undefeated domestic double winners.Although it’s time to knuckle down and focus for Leverkusen, it’s time to celebrate for Atalanta. And star of the show Lookman made it clear his intentions are to celebrate the superb win after labelling it as one of the best nights of his life.Speaking after the game, he said: “One of the best nights of my life.
