    PRIME PRAISE
Boris Johnson has praised England for “playing like heroes” after the team lost to Italy in the Euro 2020 final.
The PM declared Gareth Southgate’s squad “deserve great credit” for making it through to the nail-biting showdown – but described the defeat as “heartbreaking”.
Boris, who attended the match with wife Carrie, tweeted after Italy clinched the win: “That was a heartbreaking result to end #Euro2020 but Gareth Southgate and his @England squad played like heroes.
“They have done the nation proud and deserve great credit.”

    ENGLAND CAPTAIN HARRY KANE
“We couldn’t have given more. Penalties are the worst feeling the world when you lose. It wasn’t our night but we had a fantastic tournament and can hold our heads high.
“It’s going to hurt but we’re on the right track and hopefully we can build on this. We went through our process and the players did everything we could but it wasn’t to be.
“These things can happen. Anyone can miss a penalty. We win together and lose together, those boys will grow from it and it will give us even more motivation to do better in the World Cup next year.”
    ROY KEANE
“If you’re Sterling or Grealish, you cannot sit there and have a young kid [Saka] go up for a penalty ahead of you, you can’t.
“You cannot let a shy 19-year-old go up in front of you.
“They have a lot more experience, Sterling has won trophies, they had to get in front of the young kid and stand up.”

    GREAL FAN
Jack Grealish came off the bench for England against Italy in the Euro 2020 final – leaving one cheeky fan delighted.
A blonde woman was caught on TV cameras waving a football shirt with ‘Mrs Grealish 69’ on the back as her hero came on.
And she was not finished their with her hopefulness – she was holding up a Manchester United ‘Zebra’ shirt.
The Red Devils are just one of the clubs Grealish has been linked with, despite his side Aston Villa being desperate to keep hold of him.
Unsurprisingly, the clip of her showing her love for Grealish was the talk of Twitter.

    HARD TIME
Harry Kane failed to have a single touch in Italy’s box in the Euro 2020 final on Sunday.
The England captain was barely given a sniff by Italy’s defence as the Three Lions lost at Wembley.
Kane had four goals to his name in England’s run to the final – one fewer than Cristiano Ronaldo and Patrik Schick.
The Spurs forward, 27, also needed just one goal to pass Gary Lineker’s record of England goals at major tournaments.
But the striker was kept quiet all night by Georgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci in the centre of the Italian defence.

    KATE’S PAIN
Harry Kane consoled his teary wife Kate after England’s Euro 2020 penalty shootout heartbreak.
Gareth Southgate’s squad were understandably devastated at the full-time whistle with the likes of Declan Rice in tears.
Watching from the stands was Kane’s wife Kate who cut a distraught figure among the fans.
Pictures show Kane hugging his childhood sweetheart as she wipes away her tears.

    VILE ABUSE
THE FA are ‘appalled’ at racist abuse suffered by England players on social media after their Euro 2020 final loss.
According to The Athletic, Rashford, Saka and Sancho had vile comments left on Instagram and sent monkey emojis.
An FA spokesperson said: “The FA strongly condemns all forms of discrimination and is appalled by the online racism that has been aimed at some of our England players on social media.
“We could not be clearer that anyone behind such disgusting behaviour is not welcome in following the team.
“We will do all we can to support the players affected while urging the toughest punishments possible for anyone responsible.
“We will continue to do everything we can to stamp discrimination out of the game, but we implore government to act quickly and bring in the appropriate legislation so this abuse has real life consequences.
“Social media companies need to step up and take accountability and action to ban abusers from their platforms, gather evidence that can lead to prosecution and support making their platforms free from this type of abhorrent abuse.”

“We’re hugely disappointed of course. I think the players have been an absolute credit and given everything they possibly could. At times they played really well, at times we didn’t keep the ball well enough.

ENGLAND are counting down the hours to their first major tournament final in 55 years as they look to win Euro 2020 tonight..Gareth Southgate’s men have been enjoying some time on their unicorn inflatables before getting down to the serious business of plotting Italy’s downfall in the final.

    OLE! OLE! OLE! OLE!
OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER has warned Italy that Marcus Rashford will be ‘ready’ for the Euro 2020 final if he is given the nod for the crunch game.
The Norwegian boss has had his say on England’s Red Devils contingent, including Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw, after their stellar tournament.
But Solskjaer sent Italy a warning over Rashford, saying the forward, 23, could be a key man if he is given a rare chance by Gareth Southgate.
Rashford has played just 83 minutes across four matches at the tournament so far, failing to score.
And hen asked about the impact of his Man Utd stars on England’s glorious summer, Solskjaer told the Man Utd website: “It’s tremendous.
“They’ve been so solid, the team, and I think Luke and Harry are definitely helping out in that respect.
“They don’t seem to concede chances and have been very robust.
“I’m very happy Harry is fit and playing while Luke just keeps on going.
“Over the last couple of seasons, he has just improved more and more.
“Marcus, of course, has had to be patient because there are other good players around. He’s just got to be ready.
“If, in the final, Marcus comes on, I’m sure he’ll be ready.”
Solskjaer then offered a little advice to his Old Trafford stars ahead of the Wembley final showdown.
The Red Devils chief added: “[I would just say] enjoy it, of course. Be focused.
“Of course, we’ve kept in touch about enjoying the victory and then then next morning, get on with the next one.
“Nothing becomes history as quickly as a football game.
“It’s history and you have to just look forwards to the next [one] and be ready.
“Luke and Harry, it’s just recovery, Marcus it’s train well, show a good attitude and show Gareth that you are ready.
“We keep in touch all the time. We will send them a good-luck message of course and it’s been the case for all the players, throughout the Euros and Copa America.”
    FORZA ITALIA
SCOTTISH newspaper The National have made it clear who they want to win the Euro 2020 showpiece tonight.
Their front cover featured Italy manager Roberto Mancini dressed up as Mel Gibson in Braveheart with a clear message.

‘Save us Roberto, you’re our final hope,’ the headline read.
In brackets it added: ‘We can’t take another 55 years of them banging on about this.”
    IN A SPIN
LEONARDO SPINAZZOLA has sent an impassioned letter to his Italy team-mates ahead of the Wembley showdown against England.
The defender will have to watch on from the stands after injuring his Achilles in the quarter-final match against Belgium.
The letter published by La Stampa reads: “If I went back in time, I would sprint for the ball again. I would do it 100 times again, trying to earn a meter on the opponent and shift the game on our side. It’s nothing special, these are the Azzurri’s rules.
“After all, you only cross the line if you are ready to give your soul to your teammates. The injury took me off the field but could not separate me from the group. My son Mattia, who is only three years old, understood that his dad could not remain on the couch at home to watch the game tonight.
“I am thrilled, I can’t hide it. When I got into the aeroplane, I felt I was reborn a little. In a few hours, I will be on the pitch with my teammates and in the stands with the rest of the country. It could have been better, but it could have been worse.
“We have the last battle of this Euros at Wembley. A tournament that I will carry inside forever. From the magic nights of the Stadio Olimpico to the temple of football against the hosts, we’ve come a long way.
“In my case, fate has added a few more kilometres to this journey: a stage of suffering in Finland, to adjust the Achilles tendon.
“Now, I am ready. I feel I have still so much to give. I will return on the wings in a few months, but I like to think this evening we’ll be sprinting all together.
“I toy with the idea of seeing Bryan Cristante, the first teammate who consoled me after the injury, lifts something more meaningful than my head. Here we are. Forza Azzurri!”
    CAR BLIMEY
Man Utd coach Michael Carrick has told the Red Devils players in the England squad to enjoy the build-up to the Euro 2020 final.
Speaking to the club’s website, he said: “To be honest, I don’t think there’s loads to say. I think they’re in a good place [so it’s] pretty much ‘same as’.
“Yes, of course, it’s a one-off game in terms of finally getting your hands on the trophy but really it’s still make or break just like the last-16 was, just like the semi-final was, and they handled that pretty well.
“So I don’t think they need much of a message from me apart from do the same, carry on the same, be positive, enjoy the build-up, but enjoy the game for what it is and don’t play it for the occasion.
“I’ve seen a few messages on that, about how actually everyone else enjoys it but as a player you’ve got such a role to play and a responsibility, you have to go out there and perform and you don’t get caught up in what the rest of the country is doing.
“You have more fun at times as a fan but I think the boys will enjoy it finally if they win on Sunday night.”
    HAIR WE GO
A football-mad England fan has shaved ‘It’s Coming Home’ into his back hair.
Hairy fella Alfie Callagher-Roberts, 23, also etched out the St George’s Cross onto his chest.
He told The Sun: “I have always been hairy and have ummed and ahhed about shaving my chest.
“I thought I would have to celebrate England getting through to the final before saying goodbye to it all.”
The scaffolder, from Poplar in London, predicted a 3-1 England victory in the Euro 2020 final tonight and insists he wasn’t egged into it- saying “as soon as I said it, they were all up for it”.
Alfie added: “I’ve always been told I’ve got more hair on my chest and back than an ape – so put it to good use.”

    WHAT THE REF?
Italy midfielder Marco Verratti could be on a collision course with Euro 2020 final referee Bjorn Kuipers.
The Paris Saint-Germain star was seen remonstrating with the Dutch official after his side’s Champions League semi-final defeat to Manchester City back in May.
And Verratti made a startling claim about what Kuipers said to him during their exchange of words.
The 28-year-old alleged: “He (Kuipers) said ‘f*** you’ to me. I talk to referees a lot but I never say that or I get a 10-game ban.”
Verratti’s accusation was also backed up by his PSG team-mate Ander Herrera, who alleged Kuipers also said it to another of their players.
The former Manchester United man added: “We talk about respect with referees.
“The referee tonight said ‘f*** off’ to Leandro Paredes. It’s incredible. If we say that we get a three-four match ban.”
Verratti and Kuipers had the exchange after PSG’s Champions League defeat to Man City
    EUR JOKING
Octopus Energy have gotten into the spirit by projecting an England flag onto the country’s biggest fan in East Yorkshire.
Founder Greg Jackson uploaded an image on social media where the flag can be seen in Market Weighton.
The turbine, which is 73 metres tall, can be seen with the St George’s flag projected onto it.

    GAR BLIMEY
Gareth Southgate has delivered a message to the England fans ahead of tonight’s Euro 2020 final.
Supporters cannot contain their excitement with the Three Lions set to compete in a final of a major tournament for the first time in 55 years.
Here’s what the England gaffer had to say.

    ROO CAN DO IT
England legend Wayne Rooney has issued the Three Lions’ ‘one warning’ about Italy ahead of tonight’s final.
Speaking in his column for The Times, Rooney said: “I think we’re favourites. Quality wise England have enough and mentally you can see the players are in a good place.
“My one warning would be that we can’t get caught up in how Italy play, the way they’ll try and slow the game down.”
Before adding: “If I were Gareth I’d be telling England’s players to get the ball down and play quick, keep the tempo high, keep the Italians working, tire them out.
“In 2014, Uruguay were able to break up the game and suck us in to playing the way they wanted — but this England team is more streetwise.
“Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini are great players — but not the quickest. I’m sure Gareth and Steve Holland will be looking at Alvaro Morata’s goal for Spain in Italy’s semi-final.
“It showed that if you can get bodies around those two great centre-backs, making sharp movements in behind them, they’re not comfortable.
“If England can get Raheem making his inside runs, and Harry and other quick players moving down their sides, Chiellini and Bonucci won’t enjoy it one bit.”
    FINAL ANSWER
England will revert to a back-five for tonight’s Euro 2020 final against Italy – meaning there is no place for Bukayo Saka, SunSport can reveal.
Gareth Southgate is believed to have selected his side for the biggest game in the nation’s history for 55 years.
Saka is the only player from the semi-final starting XI to miss out, with Kieran Trippier the man to come in.
Take a look below at how the Three Lions are expected to start.
Bukayo Saka is set to miss out on starting in the Euro 2020 final against Italy
    ROARED ON
England fans came out in huge numbers to cheer on the England squad as they departed for Wembley.
The Three Lions have been based at St. George’s Park for the duration of Euro 2020 and have played all but one match at the national stadium.
Rows and rows of supporters armed with smartphones and St. George flags lined the streets of Burton on a memorable day for the England team.
Gareth Southgate has restored pride in the national team – a key goal of his when he took over in 2016.
Fans were also present outside the team hotel when the squad arrived on their coach on Saturday.
England are gearing up to play a final in a major tournament for the first time in 55 years
    OLE TRAFFORD
Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has wished England well ahead ahead of their Euro 2020 final against Italy.
Red Devils stars Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford, Lukes Shaw and incoming signing Jadon Sancho are all part of Gareth Southgate’s squad.
Speaking to United’s website, Solskjaer said: “Enjoy it, of course, be focused.
“Of course, we’ve kept in touch about enjoying the victory and then then next morning, get on with the next one. Nothing becomes history as quickly as a football game.
“It’s history and you have to just look forwards to the next [one] and be ready.
“Luke and Harry, it’s just recovery, Marcus it’s train well, show a good attitude and show Gareth that you are ready.”
    LIONS ROARING
Just in case you wasn’t excited enough about tonight…

    OWEN GOAL
Former Man Utd striker Michael Owen has backed England to win the European Championship for the first time.
The ex-Three Lions star believes Gareth Southgate’s men will beat Italy 2-1 in the Euro 2020 final, with England to score late in extra-time.
He told Bet Victor: “Now, from a teams point of view, I think that England are going to go with a normal formation of a back four. The only big question mark I’ve got for Gareth Southgate is who plays in that attacking role?
“Is it going to be [Jadon] Sancho or is it going to be [Bukayo] Saka, who Gareth Southgate has turned to on most occasions.
“I think he’s probably going to go with the same line up as the one he played in the semi-finals against Denmark. From Italy’s point of view, I must admit, I didn’t expect them to reach this stage of the tournament.
“However, they have been the stand-out team with some unbelievable team performances and they are a real match for this England team.”
    SON OF A GUN
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has wished England good luck ahead of their Euro 2020 final against Italy.
In a clip he posted on social media, he said: “Best of luck to England tonight.
“It’s been an incredible journey so far.
“But we’re all hoping yo can go one better and bring it home tonight.”

    HOW ABOUT MAT
Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini believes it could be a special Sunday for Italians.
Not only could supporters be supporting the first Italian Wimbledon champion, but also a European Championship when they face England in the final tonight.
Commenting on the prospect of a double celebration, Berrettini said: “My first final in Wimbledon, it’s just crazy to think about it.
“I think I never dreamed about this because it was too much for a dream.”
“Obviously for Italian people in general, it’s going to be tough Sunday. But I think we deserve it. I think it’s going to be a special Sunday for all of us.
“It’s great day, great sport day. I’m really happy that together with football tennis is now one of the biggest sports in Italy.”
    OH NO YOU DON’T
Novak Djokovic has risked incurring the wrath of England fans ahead of his Wimbledon final against Matteo Berrettini.
The Serbian ace has revealed he is rooting for Italy in their Euro 2020 final clash against the Three Lions later.
He told Sky Sport Italia: “Football and tennis, Mamma Mia Italia, it’s fantastic!
“Berrettini doesn’t have much to lose against me, perhaps Italy have more to lose with England.
“I hope it’s a wonderful couple of matches and that Italy only win in the evening!”
    ITAL BE TOUGH
England take on Italy in the Euro 2020 final tonight after sneaking past Denmark 2-1 in extra-time.
But if history is anything to go by, the Three Lions will need a miracle to finally break their 55-year major tournament drought.
Despite England having home advantage, the Italians could be considered favourites to lift the trophy come Sunday evening.
After all, their record against the Three Lions is spectacular – particularly in major tournament showdowns.
In fact, England have won just EIGHT of their 27 meetings with Italy and are yet to record a victory in World Cup of European Championship games.
Italy have won 11 times against the Three Lions, most-recently in the 2-1 group stage win at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
England haven’t fared well against Italy in major tournaments
    EURO 2020 NEWS
Harry Kane has told England to be “calm and ruthless” tonight as the country wills them to win only their second major final ever.
The Three Lions are tipped to be unchanged, especially as Phil Foden could miss out through injury, against Italy in the Euro 2020 showpiece at Wembley.
And skipper Kane believes England’s run to their biggest match since winning the World Cup in 1966 is a natural progression.
He said: “It’s about doing what we have done and what we’ve learnt for the last four or five years as a group.
“That’s being calm in moments and then being ruthless   — that’s what we are going to need to do against a very good Italian side.
“To have these Euros at Wembley, in front of our fans, where we can really connect with them and see their joy, has been truly special.”
In fact, boss Gareth Southgate believes the crowd of 60,000 could be key to England completing a flight of fantasy from “apathy” to ecstasy.
He said: “When we started, three or four years ago we had people throwing paper aeroplanes, they weren’t behind the team and there was an apathy.
“Now the energy in the stadium is fantastic. That is so important.
“The players need to feel that warmth and support. It has definitely helped inspire us.”
Meanwhile, Jack Grealish and Jordan Pickford have confirmed their plans to celebrate in Las Vegas if the Three Lions win Euro 2020.
    SOUTHGATE: DON’T BOO ITALIAN ANTHEM
Gareth Southgate has urged England fans NOT to boo the Italian national anthem at the Euro 2020 final.
The gaffer encouraged fans at Wembley to do the right thing and “respect” the country’s anthem ahead of the crunch clash.
Over 60,000 fans will have Wembley rocking tomorrow night as Harry Kane leads the Three Lions into their first tournament final since 1966.
Speaking at a press conference on the eve of the final, Southgate told reporters: “It’s important our fans always respect the opposition.
“We know that when we play abroad and fans boo our anthem it inspires them more. I don’t think it will help the team.
“We can intimidate the team booing during the game, but it is different for the anthem.”

    LION IN WAIT
Harry Kane has urged his England team-mates to be ruthless — and finally end 55 years of hurt.
Three Lions skipper Kane is fired up to beat the Italians at Wembley in the Euros final and emulate our heroes of 1966.

And he is also driven by his own painful run of suffering three final defeats with Tottenham.
Kane, 27, said: “It’s about doing what we have done and what we’ve learnt for the last four or five years as a group.
“That’s being calm in moments and then being ruthless   — that’s what we are going to need to do against a very good Italian side.
“We’re representing the country and want everyone to be proud of what we’re doing, on and off the pitch.
“To have these Euros at Wembley, in front of our fans, where we can really connect with them and see their joy, has been truly special.”
    ALL BEHIND YOU
Prince William has shared a rousing cry to England ahead of the team’s Euro 2020 final showdown against Italy.
The footie fanatic wished Gareth Southgate’s squad “the very best of luck” for the historic game and gushed: “I can’t really believe this is happening.”
The future king’s message read: “Gareth, Harry, and to every member of the England team on and off the pitch, I just want to wish you the very best of luck for tonight.
“What a team performance it’s been. Every member of the squad has played their part, and all the back room team as well have been truly essential.
“I can’t really believe this is happening. So exciting and I just wish you the very best of luck.
“You bring out the very best of England and we are all behind you.
“The whole country is behind you. So, bring it home.”

He’ll head straight to London to be in the stands at Wembley on Sunday night.

    ROYAL WISH
THE Queen last night sent a moving good luck message to Gareth Southgate and his team on the eve of their crunch Euro 2020 final showdown against Italy.
Her Majesty praised the Three Lions for their “spirit, commitment, and pride” ahead of tomorrow’s nail-biting final.
The 95-year-old has been swept up in the Euro 2020 excitement with England to face Italy tonight at Wembley in the historic game.
And the monarch said she hoped history would “record” the Three Lions’ success and show them beating Roberto Mancini’s tough Italian side.
Writing the note on Windsor Castle-headed paper, the Queen evoked memories of 1966 when she famously presented the World Cup to England Captain Bobby Moore after the 4-2 win over Germany.
The Queen – addressing the letter to manager Gareth Southgate OBE – wrote: “55 years ago I was fortunate to present the World Cup to Bobby Moore and saw what it meant to the players, management and support staff to reach and win the final of a major international football tournament.
“I want to send my congratulations and that of my family to you all on reaching the final of the European Championships, and send my good wishes for tomorrow with the hope that history will record not only your success but also the spirit, commitment, and pride with which you have conducted yourselves.”
She signed the note “Elizabeth R”.

    JUST ONE SCORENETTO
SUN mascot Harry Mane unfurls our England flag on a Venice gondola — to let Italy know our boys will lick them.
The lucky lion roared “it’s coming home” as he travelled the Grand Canal like the singer in the ice cream ad.
Harry caused a splash when he reached Venice from Rome ahead of tonight’s final.
And he warned: “They know we mean business now.”
Harry said: “It’s great to be in Venice – what a beautiful city. It’s amazing.
“It’s important we tell as many Italians as possible that it’s coming home! I had a good time singing that which amused the locals.

Argentina are officially the 2021 Copa America winners!
The Albiceleste just won South America’s highest honour for the first time since 1993.
And that means the Argentines have now equalled Uruguay’s record of 15 titles.

    NO MORE MESSI ABOUT
This is how much value the Copa America has for Lionel Messi.
Messi initially decided to leave Argentina in 2016 but his tenacious character and winners’ mentality didn’t allow him to depart empty-handed.
The Barcelona legend stood around and promised that he will not retire without an international honour.
And so his long and grueling journey has finally come to a happy ending…

    TOP CLASS
Argentina give Brazil a guard of honour as they receive their silver medals.
The Selecao players are devastated and some can’t hold back their tears.
Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar is among them as the Brazilians came so close to lifting the trophy for the second consecutive time in their own turf.
The Albiceleste showed immense class after a rough final…

    AWARDS
We start things off with some individual awards before the big one.
Argentina star Angel Di Maria gets awarded as Man of the Match after the final.
Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is named as the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
And of course Lionel Messi is honoured as the competition’s top scorer with four goals and five assists in seven matches.
That one is a bit odd as Messi finished as joint-first with Colombia’s Luis Diaz

    HEART OF A LION
    Lionel Messi has done it!
Messi has won everything on club level with Barcelona, he also counts a record six Ballon d’Or honours.
But it took the 34-year-old 17 years to finally win an international title with Argentina.
And by God, he did it in style as he finishes the tournament as his country’s record goalscorer and most capped player with 76 goals in 150 appearances

    FT: BRAZIL 0-1 ARGENTINA
Argentina won the 2021 Copa America after beating bitter rivals Brazil in their most historic ground the Maracana Stadium.
The Albiceleste opened the scoring after 22 minutes when a crisp cross from Rodrigo De Paul found Angel Di Maria down the right flank.
Renan Lodi got a a clumsy touch and that allowed Di Maria to get in front of Ederson before volleying the ball over the Manchester City star to score what proved to be the winner.
Brazil thought they equalised on 53 minutes when Richarlison picked up a pass from the right and beat Emiliano Martinez thanks to some help from Cristian Romero’s deflection but the Everton star was caught offside.
The same player failed again a minute later when his powerful shot forced a brilliant save from Martinez.
But Brazil’s biggesrt chance occurred on 87 minutes when Gabriel Barbosa got the ball inside the area following a poor free-kick by Neymar and his shot was denied again by the Argentina goalkeeper.
Lionel Messi got the opportunity to put the game to bed a minute later when De Paul set him up in front of Ederson but the Barcelona legend got a heavy touch and that allowed the Manchester City shot-stopper to pick the ball up.

ENGLAND are counting down to their first major tournament final in 55 years as they look to win Euro 2020.Gareth Southgate’s players have been enjoying some time on their unicorn inflatables before getting down to the serious business of plotting Italy’s downfall in the final.
The Three Lions beat Denmark 2-1 AET at Wembley to seal a spot in Sunday’s showpiece final against Italy.
Harry Kane’s 105th-minute winner was enough for Gareth Southgate and his side to see their tough clash with the Danes through.
The Azzurri reached the final with a win over Spain on penalties.

    YOU CAN CRUISE TO VICTORY
Tom Cruise boosted England’s bid to be Europe’s Top Guns with a good luck call.

Captain Harry Kane revealed the Three Lions squad took a FaceTime call from the Hollywood legend.
They were also treated to an exclusive pre-screening of his new film.
And Kane believes beating Italy in Sunday’s European Championship Final is very much a case of Mission: Possible.

The Three Lions skipper fired his country to the final with the winner against Denmark on Wednesday.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5Live, he said: “We actually had Tom Cruise get in touch yesterday evening, you get everyone who loves football.
“We were fortunate enough to watch one of his films so I think he was over here in the UK and he just dialled in and FaceTimed us just to wish us the best of a group so that was nice of him.
“The majority of people in the world love football, so it’s great to have all that support not just in England but across the world.
“It’s been a great time for all of us, we’ve enjoyed every moment of it so we’re just looking forward to hopefully finishing the job.”
    COURT FINDS MARTIAL FLAW
Thibaut Courtois has brutally questioned whether Manchester United’s France frontman Anthony Martial is a true star.
Martial’s status was debated after ex-Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen mentioned the big names missing at Euro 2020.

Belgium team-mates Courtois and Vertonghen were asked to list the top players absent.
Courtois is clearly a hard man to please as the only player he mentioned was Sergio Ramos.
Speaking to Pickx Sports, Vertonghen suggested Martial which was questioned by the Real Madrid goalkeeper.
Courtois said: “Martial? Is he a star player?”

    ROO’S THE DADDY?
ENGLAND and Italy fans have taken to social media to debate who was better out of Wayne Rooney and Francesco Totti.

Rooney is the Three Lions’ all-time top scorer with 53 goals and received the most England caps for an outfield player with 120.
At club level he won the Champions League trophy with Manchester United as well as five Premier League titles.
However, his failure to win anything with his country is not something that can be levelled at Totti.

Although the Roma legend only won one Serie A title with his boyhood club, he did lift the World Cup with Italy as a part of their superb 2006 squad.
And England and Italy fans – who will be on opposing sides on Sunday when their two nations meet in the Euro 2020 final – came out in force to argue the cases for both men after Uefa tweeted asking who was the superior player.
One backer of Rooney said: “Totti was a fabulous player, capable of the truly incredible… but Rooney at his best was a monster.
“Totti managed by Sir Alex Ferguson might have been something else, but I would go for Rooney.”
Another added: “It’s not even close! 5 league titles, four FA cups, and the UCL?!?! Vs someone with one one league title and got subbed off after 60’ in the WC final which his team barely beat 10 man France???”
WENGER SLAMMED OVER LIONS’ CONSPIRACY THEORY
UEFA chief Zvonimir Boban has slammed Arsene Wenger – and conspiracy theorists who claim England’s run to the final is a fix.

Former Arsenal boss Wenger, now Fifa’s head of global football development, criticised the decision to award – and then not overturn – the extra-time penalty from which Harry Kane scored to win the semi-final against Denmark.
Former Croatia and AC Milan legend Boban, Uefa’s head of football, said of Wenger: “As a Fifa director, he commented on a penalty in the Uefa European Championship: it was inelegant and inconceivable.
“It was a dubious decision, it cannot be denied, but not a scandal as the professional howlers say.
“It’s a shame that a shadow has fallen on such a moment and that some are questioning a European Championship in which the refereeing has been fantastic.”
Boban has even less time for those in Spain and Italy who claim Uefa have given England an easy ride as a thank you for the British Government’s crucial support against the plans for a breakaway European Super League.

FODEN OUT OF LAST TRAINING SESSION
England trained for the last time before their European Championship final – but Phil Foden sat out.
Gareth Southgate’s heroic Three Lions will take home advantage into tomorrow’s Euros showpiece against Italy at Wembley.

The squad completed their final training session, but according to Sky Sports, Foden was sidelined due to a ‘minor precaution’.
But, the Manchester City forward and the other 25 players passed their Uefa mandated PCR coronavirus tests.
Foden, 21, started England’s opening two games in the delayed Euros, when they beat Croatia 1-0 but drew to Scotland.
He was then rested in the 2-0 victory over Czech Republic and replaced by Bukayo Saka, but has not returned to the starting XI since.Sans SerifSend
    THREE LIONS TAMERS
Uefa have allegedly BANNED Baddiel & Skinner and the Lightning Seeds from singing Three Lions (It’s Coming Home) at Wembley ahead of England’s Euro 2020 final against Italy.
The footie anthem could finally be coming true if Gareth Southgate mastermind’s England’s first major tournament triumph since 1966.
But according to Frank Skinner, the idea of the players coming out to the big hit were vetoed by Uefa party poopers as it was deemed ‘unfair’ on Italy.
Speaking on Friday night’s The Last Leg Euros Special, Skinner said: “There was a suggestion that we sang it on the pitch before the final on Sunday, and Uefa said it was too partisan and not fair on the Italians to have that.”
The comedian went on to joke about double standards, pointing out what happened in the opening ceremony.
He said: “In the opening game, which was Italy against Turkey, Andrea Bocelli sang Nessun dorma before the game!”
David Baddiel and Frank Skinner were apparently thwarted in singing Three Lions
    BEST OF ENEMIES
EXCLUSIVE – Man Utd skipper Harry Maguire has forged an unlikely friendship with Italian captain Giorgio Chiellini.
The pair were both approached by Fifa president Gianni Infantino.
Infantino asked the pair about reforms Fifa are looking to push through for players throughout the world.
As captains of two of the world’s biggest clubs, Infantino wants to know their views on fixture congestion, player overload and the international calendar, but they are also having an input in other areas.
They include pensions and general player welfare for professionals at all levels.
While the contact with Infantino has been via email, both Maguire and Chiellini, 36, have been speaking to each other while also communicating via text.
    EU MUST BE JOKING
Uefa chief Zvonimir Boban has slammed Arsene Wenger over comments made following England’s Euro 2020 win against Denmark.
    LIONS ROAR
England have scored some memorable goals at the Euros over years.
But which one is your favourite?
Take a look at some of the best strikes below.

    FINAL BUZZ
England’s Euro 2020 final against Italy could come under attack by FLYING ANTS.
Sunday’s huge showdown at Wembley could provide a sting in the tail with a swarm of insects heading for the final after a radar showed millions of flying ants over London.
The Euro 2020 final falls within the mating season for the insects and it could spark a huge wave of flying ants at the historic game.
Adam Hart, professor of Science Communication at the University of Gloucestershire, told Sky News: “If conditions are right on Sunday there may be more than three lions on shirts at Wembley and all around the country.”
Sky News meteorologist Kirsty McCabe said: “Usually, signals from creatures like insects are filtered out by the Met Office’s network of weather radars.
“But on flying ant days, the swarms are so large they can dominate the signal.”

    SANCTIONED
The FA have been slapped with a £25,000 fine for the number of disturbances that took place in England’s Euro 2020 semi-final win over Denmark – including the shining of a laser in Kasper Schmeichel’s eye.
England booked their place in the final of the Euros with a 2-1 victory over the Danes at Wembley.
But UEFA promptly opened disciplinary action against the FA for a number of incidents that took place before and during the match – including a fan shining a laser pointer in Schmeichel’s eye moments before Harry Kane’s spot-kick.
And European football’s governing body have subsequently hit the FA with a £25k penalty.
Fans’ deployment of flares before the match also played a part in Uefa’s decision to sanction the FA.
Before the match, a number of Three Lions supporters booed the Danish national anthem.
That resulted in the FA being charged with a ‘disturbance caused by its supporters during the national anthem.’
Kasper Schmeichel had a laser shone in his eye before Harry Kane’s penalty
    TRAINING DAY
England trained for the last time before their European Championship final – but Phil Foden sat out.
He was then rested in the 2-0 victory over Czech Republic and replaced by Bukayo Saka, but has not returned to the starting XI since.
England are preparing for their first final at a major tournament since 1966
    NO REGRETS
An England fan who was sacked for pulling a sickie to go to the Euro 2020 semi-final against Denmark has insisted that she would “do it again”.
Nina Farooqi found herself in hot water after cameras caught her and her friend jumping and screaming after the ball hit the back of the net.
But she was brought back down to earth with a bump when her boss called her the morning after to fire her for pulling a sickie and going to the historic game.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Nina said: “We were all over the news, my face was on every television screen across the world – I had friends from Australia and America telling me they’d seen me.
“I was even on Stacey Dooley’s Instagram story. My phone blew up. The whole world had seen me celebrating. The rational part of me thought, ‘oh no, is this going to come back to haunt me?’
“There is a bit of regret, no one wants to get fired, but then also I would have hated the regret of missing out. I’d do it all over again.”
The office worker (right) had the time of her life at the game at Wembley
    RAHEEM THE DREAM
John Stones believes Manchester City pal Raheem Sterling should be named Euro 2020 player of the tournament.
Sterling scored two match-winning goals in the group stages before breaking the deadlock in the last-16 clash with Germany and later setting-up Harry Kane for his opener against Ukraine.
The ex-Liverpool attacker also won the controversial penalty that led to Kane eventually firing the Three Lions to a 2-1 victory over Denmark to set-up a crunch showdown with Italy.
Ahead of the final against the Azzurri tomorrow, defender Stones said: “I’ve said it all along but I’m a big fan of Raheem’s.
“I believe and I’d love to see him get player of the tournament. What he’s done for us and the unselfish part of his game goes unspoken about.
“But as players we see it. He’s been a great threat going forward with how direct he’s been in the games and it has been great playing with him.
“I’m sure he will be giving everything on Sunday, being that direct, and hopefully get another goal and see where it takes us.”
    BON APPETIT
Italian centre-back Leonardo Bonucci has lauded the England squad ahead of the Euro 2020 final on Sunday.
He said: “England have a super defence, I already said this during the qualifying phase.
“They have an excellent midfield, and behind them are [Harry] Maguire and [John] Stones, who had great seasons at Manchester United and [Manchester] City.
“We will need to give great attention as a defence and show a lot of cunning to score in attack.”
    SIR GARETH
Gareth Southgate is set for knighthood if England beat Italy in the European Championship final, reports say.
The Three Lions boss has led his squad to a World Cup last four in 2018 and now a Euros final in his first two tournaments as manager.
England play Italy in the final tomorrow at Wembley having beaten Denmark 2-1 after extra-time on Wednesday.
Southgate was awarded an OBE in 2019 after guiding the nation to a first semi-finals since his infamous penalty miss in 1996 against Germany.
And according to the Daily Mail, he has been informed that it is likely to be upgraded to a CBE no matter what the result.
But a knighthood is seen as inevitable if England beat Italy to lift their first major trophy since the 1966 World Cup, now 55 years ago.
England’s manager at the time Alf Ramsey was knighted in 1967 following the triumph and Southgate would be in line to achieve the same status.
It is unclear if all England’s players would be similarly honoured, as the Cabinet Office have shied away from rewarding entire teams in recent years.

    FAMILY STATEMENT
Paul Mariner’s family have releases a statement revealing the ex-England striker has passed away following a short battle with brain cancer.
    Read the full statement below.

    EUR JOKING
More than 44 million people are expected to tune in to watch the Euro 2020 final – making it the most watched event in UK TV history.
England will face Italy in their biggest game in more than half a century on Sunday, with record-breaking viewing figures predicted to smash those for the 1966 World Cup final.
Millions will watch the game on TV, which is being shown both by the BBC and ITV, while others tune in on iPlayer and ITV Hub via phones, iPads and computers.
An additional two million – excluded from ratings – will watch in 35,000 pubs where beer chucking frenzy is expected to greet English goals.
Wednesday’s 2-1 semi-final triumph over Denmark was the most-watched football match ever on a single channel with figures of 27.6 million viewers on ITV.
But tomorrow’s final is poised to beat the 1966 World Cup Final (32.3million), Princess Diana’s funeral in 1997 (32.1million) and the Apollo 13 splashdown in 1970 (28.6 million).
It also smash Boris Johnson’s March 2020 lockdown broadcast (27.7 million) and the 2012 Olympics’ opening ceremony (26.9million).
    RIP PAUL
Former England star Paul Mariner has tragically passed away at the age of 68.
He played for the likes of Arsenal, Ipswich and Plymouth during a 20-year player career.
Mariner was part of the Tractor Boys’ side that memorably won the FA Cup and Uefa Cup.
“An England statement read: “We’re sad to have learned that Paul Mariner, who made 35 appearances for the #ThreeLions, has passed away at the age of 68.
“Mariner represented England between 1977 and 1985, scoring 13 goals. Our thoughts and sympathies are with his family, friends and former clubs.”

    PIZZA CAKE
England’s warriors Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips can win the midfield battle with Italy’s Marco Verratti and Jorginho.
That is Emmanuel Petit’s belief ahead of Sunday’s huge Euro 2020 final.
Former France and Arsenal midfield ace Petit told Paddy Power: “Central midfield is one of the keys to this game.
“Italy will want to get control of the ball in midfield with Verratti and Jorginho, and it will be very interesting to see how Rice and Phillips cope with that.
“Phillips and Rice have made a huge impression at the tournament, and I’m a huge fan of both players. They are warriors, and it’s a dream for their team-mates to play with that kind of player.
“If they show their intensity and fighting spirit, it will be difficult for Jorginho and Verratti.
“The Italians will want to focus on technique and play their football, but Phillips and Rice are physically strong and cover so much ground, trying to get the second ball or cutting out passes, putting pressure on the transition.”

    AISLE BE WATCHING
Tesco and Co-op stores across the country will be shutting up shop early on Sunday so workers can get home in time to watch England’s epic showdown against Italy as football fever grips the nation.
It comes amid hopes Boris Johnson will rubber-stamp plans for an extra bank holiday – should the Three Lions claim Euro 2020 victory.
The PM has ruled out springing a surprise Bank Holiday on employers this Monday, but with calls mounting for an extra summer bank holiday if England win so the nation can celebrate, No10 could sign off a day in August.
For now, however, it’s good news for some Tesco and Co-op staff who will be able to enjoy the 8pm clash at Wembley without having to keep one eye on the till as bosses have signed off plans to shut early.
England’s 1,600 Tesco Express stores will close at 7.45pm on Sunday, instead of midnight, while Co-op will shut its 2,034 food stores at the same time, Sky reports.
Co-op’s 24 hour petrol stations will also be out of bounds between 7.45pm and 11pm.
Chris Whitfield, Co-op’s chief operating officer, said: “We appreciate just how much this means to many of our store colleagues and we want them to be able to celebrate at home with their family and friends.”

    COME ON LADS!
Boris Johnson has decked out No10 with England flags ahead of the Euro 2020 final.
The Three Lions face Italy on Sunday night – and Brits are pushing for celebratory Bank Holiday if we win.
Photos from the PM’s home show St George’s flags draped across windows, with bunting hanging from lampposts and gates.
Boris seems to have come down with football fever – even showing off his own flag outside his front door.
He gave the camera a big thumbs up in preparation for the big game.
As well as the flags, he also managed to show the team his support with a small England pin on his suit.

    SLAM DONK
England’s Euro 2020 heroes have been branded “scared and “miserable” by Premier League flop Pierre van Hooijdonk.
The Three Lions face Italy at Wembley on Sunday after securing their first place in a major final since 1966 by beating Denmark 2-1 on Wednesday.
But former Nottingham Forest striker Van Hooijdonk criticised their style of play and rated their displays in the tournament so far as only “average”.
The ex-Holland star hit out after covering England’s Wembley victory for Dutch TV.
The 51-year-old said: “England truly play incredibly scared football. If that is what they do with the squad they have, I think it’s really miserable.
“If they want to win the final they have to pay heed to what we are now saying.
“They were really average in the group stages as well. OK, they scored a lot of goals against Ukraine.
“But I have definite favourites for the final in Italy, and I hope they can do it.
“I am so disappointed in what England have shown so far. With their squad they should be able to serve up something more attractive.”

    NORMAL BUNCH
Harry Kane has revealed that he and his England team-mates are just a bunch of normal guys with a dream of winning a trophy ahead of their Euro 2020 tie against Italy.
After the Tottenham ace fired the Three Lions into the finals with his penalty rebound in the semi’s over Denmark, he and the rest of the squad have started to visualise lifting the European trophy.
But before getting to this milestone in their careers, Kane says the England squad made up of regular guys.
Which is why they can connect with the fans on such a deep level.
He said to Sky Sports: “We see ourselves as just doing a job, playing football, representing each other across the country.
“It’s been great to be here and see the connections we’ve made with the fans and the togetherness that we’ve created.
“I think we’ve shown that we’re just normal lads. We wear the badge with pride, but we represent the country in a way that makes everyone else proud as well.”

    VAR BE IT FROM ME
The VAR official who allowed England’s penalty against Denmark to be awarded is back on duty for the Euro 2020 final with Italy.
The Three Lions advanced to their first major tournament final since 1966 after Harry Kane’s extra-time winner sealed a 2-1 win over the Danes.
The England captain slotted home the rebound from close range after Kasper Schmeichel had initially saved his penalty.
The spot-kick itself drew controversy over the amount of contact involved from Joakim Maehle that saw Raheem Sterling hit the deck.
Yet VAR official Pol Van Boekel saw no reason to overturn Danny Makkelie’s on-field decision that England used to claim a historic win.
And the Dutchman will also be involved on Sunday for the final against Italy to assist German ref Bastian Dankert with the technology.

    FREE CUDDLES
Leonardo Bonucci has promised to seek out the Wembley stewardess who tried to stop him getting on the pitch and give her a proper hug on Sunday.
Italy defender Bonucci was stopped from making his way back to the dressing room by a member of the stadium security who mistook him for a supporter at the end of their semi-final shoot-out victory over Spain.
And the 34-year-old defender says he will reserve a special cuddle for the stewardess if he sees her at the end of this weekend’s Euro 2020 final against England.
The Juventus ace said: “It was a fun experience, let’s say. I was disappointed for the hug because she stopped me, but I hugged her.
“She was a little bit cold, but I know the tension – they do a very tough job, they are spending hours to keep the fans at bay and this can happen.
“And if I recognise her during the final, or at the end of the final I will hug her again.”
Bonucci said he’ll hug the steward who tried to stop him getting on the pitch at Wembley in Italy’s semi-final shoot-out win over Spain

England take on Italy at Wembley with an 8pm kick-off at the home of football.
For the Beeb, Gary Lineker is in the host’s chair with fellow legends Alan Shearer, Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard providing punditry.

    ‘B*****KS’
A US writer has sparked fury – and plenty of mocking – after claiming Baddiel and Skinner’s Three Lions is about England’s “Brexit psychodrama”.
A New Yorker article by Ryu Spaeth has offered a rather pompous take on why Brits love the beautiful game.
Instead of focusing on the Lions’ flawless performances on the pitch – and their great manners off of it – Spaeth claims our “tortured psychology” is behind our passion for Euro 2020.
Even more hilariously, he suggests Three Lions is an anthem to an “undying belief that a postwar legacy of thwarted ambition and diminished stature will be purged in the ecstasy of a footballing triumph”.
And he claims Brexit is at the heart of it all – as leaving the EU has “seemingly reoriented every issue of importance along its tribal lines”.
Unsurprisingly, many England supporters have disagreed – and they’ve set about puncturing the author’s pretentious waffle.

    GREAL DEAL
A video of England star Jack Grealish saying ‘oh my god’ in ‘the most Brummy way possible’ has resurfaced – and fans love it.
It was originally posted in 2019, captioned by Twitter user Ali Hampson-Silk with: “Have you ever seen a more Brummy mouthing.”
Many are big fans of the clip, with one writing: “Totally said this in our fantastic accent. This is brilliant.”
Twitter user Catherine added: “I can just hear this saying it! ‘O muya gawd’ I love this.”

    KHAB COMING HOME
Khabib Nurmagomedov has backed England to beat Italy in Sunday’s huge Euro 2020 final.
The UFC icon believes football is coming home as he expects Gareth Southgate’s side to land their first European Championship.
Nurmagomedov said: “England have very good and young Lions. It’s a very good team with Sterling, Kane, Mount, Phillips, Walker and Pickford.
“They’re a very good team and they’re going to play at home. The last time they won was in 1966.
“Italy have a big chance because they are a very experienced team with guys like Bonucci, Chiellini and Immobile.
“But in my opinion England have to win because they have speed. Italy have the experience but England have a very good, young team with speed.
“I hope England are going to win. I think they deserve it.”
Khabib Nurmagomedov backs England to beat Italy in Euro 2020 final
    BOO BOYS
Gary Neville believes booing national anthems is ‘not an attack’ after the FA were charged for England fans jeering Denmark’s tune.
The Manchester United legend’s controversial opinion has divided fans on social media, with Gary Lineker having an opposing view.
Neville tweeted on Friday morning: “When I played in different countries our national anthem was booed, I always took it as the opposition fans trying to unsettle us, drown our fans out and never took it as some kind of attack on us as people.
“Same when we did it to other teams. Is it really that bad and disrespectful?”
Gary Lineker had previously shared his view on the matter, saying: “If you’re lucky enough to get a ticket for the final, please, please don’t boo the Italian anthem.
“It’s an absolutely belter and worth listening to. It’s bloody rude, disrespectful and utterly classless.”

    BACKING BUKAYO
Jose Mourinho thinks Bukayo Saka will start in the Euro 2020 final.
Referencing Carlos Alberto for Porto in 2004, he told talkSPORT: “I played an 18-year-old player in a Champions League final and he is still the youngest player to score in a Champions League final. No problem.
“Of course we coaches normally think about all these details but in the end when we make these kinds of decisions we are sure of what we are doing.
“Southgate had no problem to do that, not only with Saka but also with other players giving them chances to play.
“The kid is proving my experience theory, which is experience has nothing to do with age.
“He is showing great personality and I don’t think Gareth is going to leave him out.”

    TAKING THE PIZZ
Pizza Express have joked about Gareth Southgate, referencing an advert from the 90s that the England boss appeared in.
Alongside Stuart Pearce and Chris Waddle Southgate was featured with a paper bag over his head, to hide the embarrassment of his penalty miss against Germany.
And although the pizza cheered him up, Southgate humiliated himself at the end of the advert.
    Oh, how times have changed…

    ‘WE KNOW’
Ex-Chelsea manager Antonio Conte claims Italy ‘know what it means to play in a final’ ahead of their game against England.
Conte is a columnist for Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport and has been discussing England’s chances in the final.
The 51-year-old wrote: “England has been waiting for this match for a lifetime.
“They have never won the European Championships and their only World Cup triumph is in 1966.
“Wembley’s help can be a huge boost but also a drag, because the players could feel the pressure.
“We will have less support in the stands, but more experience than them on the pitch.
“We know what it means to play in the finals. And we also know how they are won.”

    ‘INJECT IT’
Phil Foden looked ready to burst into tears of joy celebrating Harry Kane’s Euro 2020 semi-final winner for England against Denmark – and fans loved it.
And judging by his reaction against the Danes, Foden will be doing all he can to convince the boss to start him.
The Manchester City youngster sprinted after Kane after the captain had tucked home a rebound after seeing his penalty saved.
You could see the passion and delight etched all over Foden’s face as the reaction sunk in at what the lads were about to do.
Kieren Laverick wrote on Twitter: “Inject Phil Foden’s celebrations into my veins.”
Another Three Lions fan posted: “Surely Foden’s celebration of Kane’s goal has to be the best ever goal celebration assist of all time.”
England fans love Phil Foden’s passionate celebration after Harry Kane’s goal with midfielder almost crying with joy
    ANXIOUS AZZURRI
Italy have suffered a coronavirus scare with three media staff testing positive at the team’s HQ just two days before their Euro 2020 final against England.
Officials immediately strengthened the bubble around the team and carried out a series of tests to make sure none of the players or immediate staff were also affected.
Their training camp at Coverciano, on the outskirts of Florence, was immediately shut and a specialist cleaning team was brought in to sanitize the facility.
A source at the Italian FA said: “It’s not the ideal preparation for the team and we are making sure that none of them are infected but we are taking no chances and tests are being carried out.
“The chance of infection with any of the team is small but we want to be sure.”

    SPOT OF BOTHER
Former England star Jamie Carragher is tipping the Three Lions to WIN Euro 2020 – but in nail-biting fashion.
Speaking to Sky Sports, former Liverpool centre-half Carragher predicted how the game would go.
He said: “I think it will be a very tight game. I think it may go to penalties and England come out victorious.
“We have done a lot of work on penalties, so let’s not let that go to waste!
“I don’t think there will be too many goals in the game. Italy are very strong defensively, so are England.
“I think it will be 1-1 and then go to penalties.
“I think it’s the right final. I think they have been the two most impressive teams in this competition – and winner takes all on Sunday.”

    MORE FROM CHIELLINI
“(Getting to the final is) a dream we’ve been chasing over the years, a dream we’ve been carrying [with us] for three years, a dream our coach slowly put in our minds until it became true.
“At the beginning, when he told us to have in our minds the idea of winning the EURO, we thought he was crazy; instead, during these years he has created a team which is now on the brink of doing that.
“And as he has repeated to us after every match, ‘one centimetre at a time’, and now there is only the last centimetre left.”
‘IT WILL BE A GREAT MATCH’
Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini has been speaking about Sunday’s final and he has revealed his admiration for Harry Kane.
He told Uefa.com: “It will be tough. Extremely tough. I have always liked [Harry Kane] a lot.
“I still remember one of his first matches with England, when we played against them in Turin [on Kane’s full England debut, a 1-1 draw in 2015].
“Even then he made a huge impression on me. I was lucky enough to play against him [in a game against] Tottenham. He knows how to play deep and how to play a defence-splitting pass for a team-mate. He scores with his head and from long and close range.
“England are clearly not just Kane because they have amazing players on both wings and their substitutes could all be in the starting XI of a team that wins this competition.
“Players like [Jack] Grealish, [Jadon] Sancho, [Marcus] Rashford, [Dominic] Calvert-Lewin, [Phil] Foden were all on the bench but they’re top players, including [Jordan] Henderson – Liverpool’s captain.
“It will be a great match. Neither team will be afraid but both will have a lot of respect for each other.”

    ‘KANE YOU BELIEVE IT’
England captain Harry Kane was reunited with his wife Kate after the team’s victory against Denmark – but from a distance.
Gareth Southgate’s players aren’t allowed to hug their loved ones during Euro 2020 due to a strict Covid-19 bubble.
Kate was reunited with her husband after England’s semi-final triumph, taking a socially-distanced selfie with the Tottenham striker.
Kane has been away from his wife and three kids since the end of May due to a Covid bubble.
The married couple were separated by a huge banner, although they were both smiling after England narrowly defeated Denmark in London.
Kate posted the picture on Instagram with the caption: “Kane you believe it.”

    GARETH’S GANG
Gareth Southgate knows England’s chances of Euro 2020 glory depend on having not just the best team ON the pitch but the best one OFF it as well.
That is why the manager has assembled a crack outfit of fitness coaches, nutritionists, psychologists, analysts and data scientists to try and help the Three Lions reach their first major final since 1966.

    ‘PRICELESS’
To show support for England after 55 years of hurt, IKEA UK has listed its own version of the UEFA Euro 2020 cup on the mugs and cups section of the IKEA website.
And the description of the product in question reads: “It’s coming home.”
    Cost: Priceless

    A GLASS ACT
    Guess who?
That’s what football fans are saying about handsome Alberico Evani, who has been causing a stir on social media.
The 58-year-old assistant coach of the Italian national team has regularly been seen on the touchline advising Roberto Mancini.
Sporting a trendy pair of glasses, perfectly coiffured hair and a designer beard and moustache combo, Evani cuts a stylish figure in the dugout.
But fans also believe the AC Milan legend, who starred for the club between 1980-93, also bears a striking resemblance to a character from the popular board game Guess Who?

    SOUTH-GREAT!
England’s victories have ended 25 years of hurt for Gareth Southgate — and for his parents, his old pal Tony Adams has revealed.
And now Tony, England’s Euro 1996 skipper, believes his former lieutenant is going to lead the team to glory as manager, declaring: “It is time for us to tell the world: ‘It’s our time’.”
By beating the Germans on the way to reaching this year’s final, Tony feels his mate has “laid to rest demons of the penalty miss”.
When Adams sent his congratulations in a text, Gareth replied: “Thank god my mum and dad don’t have to put up with all that pain anymore.”
Adams told SunSport: “He was meant to be where he is today. Gareth has a purpose. He is very driven to making amends. Gareth is writing a story of redemption.

    PIZZA THE ACTION
Italy will be cheered on by 1,000 fans in Sunday’s Euro 2020 final who will have been specially flown in after an agreement was reached between the UK government and Uefa.
They will arrive in special charter flights from Milan and Rome after the greenlight was given by authorities – providing Covid protocols are strictly followed.
As an amber country, anyone arriving from Italy has to quarantine for ten days – or take a test to release after five – meaning the majority of Italians at Wembley on Sunday will be ex-pats.
There are around 600,000 Italians living in the UK with around 150,000 in London alone and a mad dash for tickets has already begun.
Those arriving from Italy for the final had to register their interest by midnight last night with the package costing €650 plus ticket.
They will have to show a negative Covid test on departure from Italy and they will be driven to a hotel where they will stay until they are transferred to the ground.

    OUR HEROES
England stars have pledged to donate their Euro bonuses to NHS charities if they win the final against Italy on Sunday.
Gareth Southgate’s men, who secured their place in the historic match after beating Denmark 2-1 on Wednesday, already plan to distribute their total of £9.5million to worthwhile causes.
Currently, it is estimated that the Football Association would bag around £24 million if England secured a historic victory on Sunday.
Around 40 per cent of that sum goes to the 26 players in the squad and reports suggest that they have already held talks about a donation that would see the NHS receive a massive windfall.
Last May, the players confirmed they would donate match fees to charity.
    FAN OUT
A DIGITAL content producer was sacked after her bosses spotted her celebrating Harry Kane’s winning extra time Euro 2020 goal on TV.
Nina Farooqi found herself in hot water after cameras caught her and her friend jumping and screaming after the ball hit the back of the net.
But she was brought back down to earth with a bump when her boss called her the morning after to fire her for going to the historic game.
Nina, from Ilkley, Bradford, had pulled a sickie to go to the game with her pal who had won a last minute ticket in a ballot.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Nina said: “It’s mixed emotions: we’re through to the final, I’m still on that high, but I’ve also lost my job.
“My friend won the ticket in her work ballot, and knew I’d do anything to get to the game – there was no way I was going to turn it down.
“This hasn’t come around since 1996, I vividly remember crying on my mum’s sofa when Gareth Southgate missed his penalty, and the football fan in me just couldn’t do it. Football is my life.”

England boss Gareth Southgate is worried that having a day less recovery than Italy ahead of Sunday’s epic Euro 2020 final could prove costly.
The Three Lions semi final match against Denmark was last night while the Italians defeated Spain on Tuesday.
And Southgate reckons this could give the Italians a slight advantage.
He said: “It is definitely a bit of a disadvantage but we have to find the best way of dealing with that.
“I think the biggest thing is psychological fatigue.”

    THREE LIE-INS
England fans are set to get extra time to recover after Sunday night’s Euro final.
Many firms are allowing staff a lie-in on Monday morning to sleep off the boozy celebrations if the Three Lions beat Italy in the Wembley showdown.
Even schools are telling pupils to enjoy the match and come in later.
HR experts and unions yesterday urged bosses to let staff take Monday off to avoid clashes with workers who will phone in sick if denied leave.
It comes amid mounting calls for an extra summer bank holiday if England win so the nation can celebrate the Three Lions’ success.

    ROWE WILL SIGN
Arsenal are reportedly growing in confidence that Emile Smith-Rowe will sign a new contract at the club.
The Gunners midfielder scored four goals and seven assists during 34 appearances last season which has attracted the attention of Aston Villa.
Villa made two bids for the star one of £25million and another of £30m which was knocked back by the Gunners.
And now Mikel Arteta wants to tie the 20-year-old down for the next five years, according to CBS Sport.

    NO MESSING
Javier Tebas believes Spain’s top-flight can survive Lionel Messi’s departure should he opt to swap La Liga for another division in Europe.
Reports claim the superstar’s Barcelona future is up in the air due to the club not being able to register new signings after exceeding their wage cap.
The Argentina playmaker is currently out of contract with his most recent Barca deal coming to end on June 30.
And although the Argentinian is one of the world’s most famous football stars, Tebas, 58, believes his exit will not be harmful to the country’s top tier.
The La Liga president said: “Of course we want Messi to stay but when you are running a league you cannot base decisions on individual players or clubs.’
“Ronaldo and Neymar went and we are still here and neither Serie A nor Ligue 1 has grown as they thought it would.
“Economically the Premier League is the best competition in the world and it has done it without Ballon d’Or winners.
“Of course our rivals will be happy if he (Messi) leaves, but let’s see what happens.”

    KING OF HERTS
Watford are set to sign striker Josh King and throw him a Premier League lifeline.
The Norwegian forward is a free agent after a short spell with Everton following his exit from Bournemouth after they were relegated.
King is keen to join the new boys and comes within their budget as he is willing to accept terms they are imposing on all new signings.
The Hornets have been collecting free agents and loans as they try to build a squad to stay up – and they are also looking to keep the salaries sensible in case they fail.
Watford have already signed former Tottenham left-back Danny Rose, 30, on a free transfer.
They’ve also brought in young Scottish forward Dapo Mebude, 19, following his release from Rangers.

    ELLIOTT SIGNS NEW LIVERPOOL DEAL
Harvey Elliott has signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool.
The 18-year-old put pen to paper on the deal at the AXA Training Centre on Friday to further extend a spell with the Reds that began in the summer of 2019.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Elliott said: “It’s always going to be there throughout the years I’m here. Hopefully it’s going to be a long time.
“There’s always going to be those butterflies whenever you put on the shirt, whenever you go out to train and play, whenever you’re involved in the club there’s always that feeling.
“It’s always a nice feeling when you sign a new contract – especially for your boyhood club.
“Especially for me, being a Red, as well as my family – it’s nice to make them proud and make myself proud. But the hard work carries on.”

    KOP CHOP
Ben Davies could be in line for an Anfield exit with Celtic reportedly keen on the Liverpool centre-back.
And the former Preston North End player could end up leaving Merseyside without having played a single game for the Premier League giants.
The Daily Mail claims the Scottish Prem runners-up came close to sealing a £2million agreement with the Cumbria-born ace in January.
This was before their move was thwarted by a surprise bid from Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Preston accepted a £500,000 fee plus add-ons, rising to around £1.6m, for their star.
However, Davies appears to have fallen down the pecking order at Anfield with other players including Joel Matip, Fabinho and Nathaniel Williams starting.

    RU THE DAY
Arsenal will reportedly press ahead with a move to sign Wolves midfielder Ruben should they fail to tempt Manuel Locatelli into joining.
The Gunners are in talks with Sassuolo over bringing the Italy international to the Emirates having made a formal offer.
Though the player is understood to be keen to remain in Serie A as he longs to join Juventus.
Sassuolo’s CEO Giovanni Carnevali told Sky Italy: “We’re in talks for Locatelli with one club from abroad, and it’s really advanced.
And according to Gianluca Di Marzio, should Arsenal fail to secure Locatelli’s services, Neves will be considered a priority for Mikel Arteta.

    WONDERKID SIGNS
Barcelona have reached an agreement with Rapid Wien for Yusuf Demir, reports Fabrizio Romano.
He will Barça B on loan until June 2022 for around £430k – with an option to buy included for £8.5million.
The 18-year-old played 27 games in the Austrian Bundesliga and has represented Austria on one occasion.

    RAMOS REFUSAL
Goal reports Premier League champions Manchester City and Arsenal were the two top-flight English sides vying for the centre-back’s signature with rivals around the continent.
However, the former LaLiga ace, 35, is reported to have seen the offer from reigning Ligue One champs as one too good to turn down.
It is claimed PSG were willing to agree to his desired deal of £10.3m per season with bonuses boosting his earnings to £13m.

    FACE PALM
Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti has hinted at a move for Chelsea wing-back Emerson Palmieri.
The Italian is in line to start against England in the Euro 2020 final on Sunday.
Asked about whether Napoli are one of the clubs vying for Emerson’s signature, Spalletti laughed.
He cheekily replied: “I can’t say if I called Emerson to join Napoli or not.
    “Maybe yes, maybe it’s happened.”

    DE-PAY GONE
Barcelona have cut Memphis Depay’s salary by 30 per cent just weeks after joining the club, according to reports.
The Spanish giants have reportedly exceeded their LaLiga salary cap and have been forced to reduce the Holland international’s wage.
According to Goal, Depay’s annual salary at Barcelona has been reduced from €7million (around £6m) to €5m (around £4.3m).
If the report is to be believed, the 27-year-old’s weekly wage will drop from around £115k to around £82k.
Barcelona reportedly need to cut their costs to operate under a salary cap, despite already agreeing deals with ex-Manchester City stars Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia.

    LOK AT THAT
Arsenal are on the verge of completing the £17.2million signing of Anderlecht star Albert Sambi Lokonga, according to reports.
According to the BBC, Arsenal are ‘closing in’ on a deal for Lokonga as a replacement.
The Belgium youth international, 21, is expected to pen a five-year deal with the Gunners.
And the final details of his contract are being finalised.
Lokonga is expected to undergo his medical today, with potential further tests tomorrow.

    BETTER CALL SAUL
Liverpool are reportedly in pole position to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez as they line up a £35million offer.
The 26-year-old, who still has five years left to run on his contract at the Wanda Metropolitano, could be set to depart Spain this summer.
It is understood that despite winning the LaLiga title, Atletico need to sell players due to financial difficulties as a result of the coronavirus crisis.
And according to AS, Diego Simeone’s side are prepared to part ways with Saul, where they are looking for at least £35m.
They claim that the Reds are willing to fork out that fee with Jurgen Klopp desperate to replace Georginio Wijnaldum after the Dutchman departed on a free transfer.

    BELL TOLLS
Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin has reportedly set his sights on joining Inter Milan this summer.
Inter Milan are believed to be keen on securing the Spaniard’s services as a possible replacement for Achraf Hakimi, who has joined Paris Saint-Germain.
And according to Calciomercato, the defender is ready to make the move to Italy after PSG ended their interest in signing him due to Hakimi’s arrival.
Arsenal would be happy to loan Bellerin to Inter, but only if Simone Inzaghi’s side agree to a £17million obligation to buy clause next year.
Though in a blow for Bellerin, the news outlet suggests PSV ace Denzel Dumfries is the Nerazzurri’s No1 target following a superb Euro 2020.

    RUMOUR MIL
Chelsea outcast Olivier Giroud is set to sign a two-year deal at AC Milan, according to reports.
The Frenchman struggled for game time last season, making only eight Premier League starts despite Timo Werner’s struggles in front of goal.
Giroud, 34, reportedly wanted to leave Stamford Bridge on a free transfer at the end of the campaign.
But the Blues triggered an option to extend his contract by a year.
According to the Mail, Milan will now pay Giroud’s £1million release clause to secure his signature. And they will fork out around £3m on his salary.
Giroud and Milan are believed to be ironing out the final details regarding his pay structure.
    CAM ON THEN
Manchester United are reportedly set to make an official bid to sign Rennes starlet Eduardo Camavinga.
The 18-year-old has just one year left on his contract, with it understood he has no intention of extending his stay at at Roazhon Park.
It was claimed last week that the Red Devils were eyeing up a £26million bid to lure the teenager to Old Trafford.
Chelsea are another club that are believed to have held talks with his agent Jonathan Barnett, along with LaLiga giants Real Madrid.
And while his priority is to stay in France to join Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal are said to have made him their No1 target.
But according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, United are looking to steal a march on their rivals in the race to secure Camavinga’s services by launching an offer.

    LET’S SAVIC
Manchester United could have to pay as much as £60million to seal the transfer of Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic this summer.
The Serbian international has been linked with a move to United for awhile although they’re yet to make a formal bid.
If the Red Devils do go forward an make a swoop for the midfielder, they’ll have to depart with the hefty sum to secure his services, according to Calciomercato.
And Ole Gunnar-Solskjaer’s team will have to brace themselves with a battle with rivals Liverpool who are also said to be tracking the star.
    HEY KIDDO
Arsenal youngster Kido Taylor-Hart is reportedly set to sign a new long-term contract at the Emirates Stadium.
The 19-year-old winger has finally agreed terms on a new deal with the Gunners since entering discussions in March, according to Football London.
He has garnered interest across Europe with his impressive performances over 30 games last season.
The English native has been with the North London club since the age of seven.
    JOR IN DEMAND
Jorginho’s agent claims the Italy hero is wanted by other clubs but hopes to open new contract talks with Chelsea.
And with the playmaker currently very much in vogue, Jorginho’s representative Joao Santos says the 29-year-old is looking to hold negotiations with Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia.
Santos told Radio Marte: “Today Jorginho’s valuation is around €50 million (£42.8m). If a team arrives… obviously he has made it to many finals.”
And asked about interest from rival teams, he added: “Yes, but our first thought is to speak to Marina Granovskaia about the renewal.
“This is certainly a very important moment in his career, he has been waiting for it for 20 years.”

    SAVED BY SARRI
Maurizio Sarri has reportedly told his new club Lazio that he wants to bring Arsenal ace Lucas Torreira to Italy this summer.
The Uruguayan spent last season on loan at Atletico Madrid after being declared surplus to requirements at the Emirates.
He is still not expected to be a part of the plans at Arsenal this season and Mikel Arteta will be happy to sanction his move away from the club.
But ex-Chelsea boss Sarri will have a fight on his hands to sign Torreira as Serie A rivals Fiorentina also want the midfielder, according to Calciomercato.
    GIROUD MOVE
Oliver Giroud is reportedly on his way to AC Milan from Chelsea in a deal worth £1.7million.
The Frenchman is set to be en-route to Italy to complete his medical before the deal is finalised, according to Sky Sports.
The striker signed a new one-year deal at Chelsea last summer and last month the club took up an option to extend it by a further 12 months.
He’s scored 39 goals in 119 appearances during his time at Stamford Bridge, winning three major trophies, including the Champions League title in May.

    TELLI TURNED OFF
Arsenal’s hopes of signing Manuel Locatelli look like they could be crushed amid reports of Juventus moving ahead in the race for the star.
Tuttosport claims Massimo Allegri wants a deal for the player to be struck between the Turin giants and Sassuolo.
And it is thought the Mapei Stadium midfielder, 23, who has been one of Italy’s best performers at the Euros, would prefer a move to the Old Lady.
Tuttosport claims Juventus, who finished fourth in Italy’s top-flight, may be open to putting forward a cash-plus-player proposal.
It is thought the club, who re-appointed Allegri as manager after sacking Andre Pirlo, could be willing to offer Radu Dragusin or Nicolo Fagioli as part of a deal.
And Tuttosport suggests Locatelli, who has also been linked with Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City, has been eyeing a Juve move for a year.

    JOACH POACH
Man United are reportedly weighing up a bid for Lyon defender Joachim Andersen.
United have identified Real Madrid ace Raphael Varane as one their top defensive targets this summer.
But if unable to prise him away from the Bernabeu, the Red Devils see Andersen as their Plan B, Mercato report.
The 25-year-old impressed on loan at Fulham during the 2020-21 campaign, making 31 Premier League appearances.
He was also on centre-back duty for Denmark at Euro 2020 before they crashed out to England in the semi-finals yesterday.
Andersen has three years left to run on his contract with Lyon, but it is thought that the Ligue 1 side would be willing to sell him for around £25.8million this summer.
    LOC STOCK
ARSENAL have received a boost in their reported pursuit of Manuel Locatelli after Sassuolo confirmed transfer talks with a ‘club from abroad’.
However, Arsenal are thought to face a transfer battle with Juventus for the playmaker.
Max Allegri has reportedly identified Locatelli as the man to help Juve regain their Serie A crown.
But the Gunners have been boosted by confirmation from Sassuolo that the Turin giants are yet to open talks due to financial problems.
And instead, Sassuolo are in negotiations with an unnamed foreign side.
Club chief Giovanni Carnevali told Sky Italy: “We’re in talks for Locatelli with one club from abroad, and it’s really advanced.
“We’re going to meet with Juventus in the next few days, but there are no negotiations yet.”

    WHITE PRICE
Arsenal have reportedly submitted a £54million bid to sign Brighton ace Ben White.
They’ve already had two bids slapped down by Brighton but feel this could be the offer to get their man.
The Gunners third proposal is £48m up-front plus another £6m in performance-related bonuses, according to the Transfer Window Podcast.
Brighton who want £50m plus for White have yet to respond to Arsenal’s new and improved offer.

    GUID THE WAY
Arsenal are reportedly yet to make a formal offer for transfer target Guido Rodriguez.
The Gunners have been linked with a move for the Real Betis star but haven’t made any advances, according to Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo.
Mikel Arteta has his sights set on bringing Anderlecht midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga to The Emirates.
But Argentinian maestro Rodriguez is thought the be an alternative option if the Lokonga deal falls through.

    TOP SPINA
Italy star Leonardo Spinazzola has been named the fastest player of Euro 2020 – with three England players in the top 15.
Marcus Rashford, Raheem Sterling and Kyle Walker are also among the tournament’s top speedsters.
But it is Roma full-back Spinazzola who takes the crown along with Hungary defender Loic Nego.
The pair have been clocked at a powerful 21 miles per hour during the Euros, edging them past some of the continent’s fastest footballers.
Kingsley Coman of France and Dutch winger Cody Gakpo came in just behind at 20.9mph.

    STAND OFF
This is the chilling moment a knifeman armed with a 12-inch blade threatened England fans outside a London pub.
Two groups of youths were locked in a stand-off outside a pub just before last night’s Euro 2020 semi-final with Denmark.
One man wearing a face masks brandishes a terrifying Rambo knife as he approaches a group who back away on Abbey Road, North West London.
Another man with him wields a chair with a third man just behind as they face down six others.
Two of the rival group hold chairs over their heads to defend themselves just minutes before the England match kicked off.
Towards the end of the video England fans can be seen moving away from the pub as the armed group approach them.
A man filming the incident is heard saying: “Welcome to Kilburn, lads”

    PHIL GOOD
Phil Foden’s insane skill had all of social media talking on Wednesday night.
The Man City star pulled off an unreal flick to team-mate Jack Grealish during the win over Denmark.
He came on for Mason Mount in extra-time at Wembley on Wednesday night.
And his wonderful flick to Grealish to set up a shot on goal got fans talking on Twitter.
One said: “Bro that Foden flick was unreal. He has way too much sauce for an England player.”
While another tweeted: “Y’all saw that flick by Foden??”

    NO BIGGIE
England stars Bukayo Saka and Jack Grealish were spotted doing their best Harry Maguire impressions after England reached the Euro 2020 final on Wednesday.
The pair were spotted chatting to family and friends at Wembley after the extra-time win over Denmark and the footage immediately drew comparisons with shots of Maguire from the World Cup in 2018.
Three Lions centre-back Maguire was caught in a now timeless shot after he nodded England’s opener in their 2-0 World Cup quarter-final win over Sweden in 2018.
It’s a meme that has taken a life of its own since with millions of fans sharing the picture alongside their own versions of what Maguire might have been saying to the group of girls he was chatting to.
One of them was actually his fiancee Fern Hawkins but that didn’t stop most fans from chiming in with their own funny versions.

    THAT’S VARCICAL
Arsene Wenger has blasted VAR for ‘letting the referee down’ during England’s 2-1 win over Denmark last night.
The Three Lions were awarded a penalty when Raheem Sterling went down in extra time with the score level at 1-1, with Harry Kane’s subsequent rebound proving to be the winner.
But Wenger, 71, felt that the contact on Sterling was too minimal to be a penalty.
He said on beIN Sports: “No penalty.
“And in a moment like that I believe that the VAR… I don’t understand why they don’t ask the referee to have a look at it and have a clear (look).
“In a moment like that it’s important that the referee is absolutely convinced it’s a penalty.
“It was not clear enough to say ‘yes it is’.
“At least he should have had a look on the screen, I don’t know why the VAR didn’t ask him to go.”

    ROLL IT BACK
A petition has been launched to have England’s triumphant clash against Denmark REPLAYED.
Some fans were furious that Raheem Sterling was awarded a penalty after taking a tumble in the Euro 2020 semi-final clash.
And it was also revealed that in the build up to that penalty there were TWO balls on the pitch.
England have also being hit with three charges for Uefa, one being for a fan shining a laser in Denmark keeper Kasper Schmeichel’s eyes for the spot-kick.
The other two are for fans booing the Danish national anthem, and for fireworks being set off.

    ITALY’S UNBEATEN RUN
This is what England have to overcome on Sunday…

    SURVIVORS
Only four of England’s Euro 2020 heroes made the cut the last time England faced Italy three years ago.
Gareth Southgate and his men are currently the toast of the nation after securing a place in a final of a major tournament for the first time since 1966.
The Three Lions came from behind as Harry Kane’s extra time strike fired them to a 2-1 victory over Denmark in front of a raucous Wembley last night.
Now Southgate and his men are hoping to go all the way and lift the European Championship trophy when they return to the national stadium on Sunday.
Roberto Mancini’s Italy – who come into the game on the back of an astonishing 33-match unbeaten run – stand in the way of immortality for our England icons.
And the Three Lions will be hoping for better luck than the last time they took on the Azzurri at Wembley on March 27, 2018.
That night they were led to a frustrating 1-1 draw on home turf – and only four members of the current squad started it.

    ‘NEVER A PENALTY’
Jose Mourinho was stunned England were awarded the penalty that led to their winner against Denmark.
But despite his surprise at the decision, SunSport columnist Mourinho said the Three Lions more than deserved their historic victory.
The Special One told TalkSPORT: “It was never a penalty.
“The best team won. England deserved to win. England was fantastic but for me it was never a penalty.
“The best team won. England is a better team than Denmark.
“Denmark played the way I was expecting them to and they played until their limits.
“England were really really good and no doubt deserved to win that match. But for me it was never a penalty.
“And I think at this level – especially at this level – the semi-final of a Euros…
“I don’t understand really the referee’s decision and I understand even less the fact the VAR didn’t bring the ref to the screen or didn’t overturn the decision.
“For me it’s never a penalty. Not with [Jannik] Vestergaard or with the second defender.
“So as a football man I’m very happy England won, don’t get me wrong, and they deserved to win.
“But as a football man I’m disappointed the penalty was given.”

    ITALY VS ENGLAND STATS

Italy have never lost against England at a major tournament (W3 D1), winning 1-0 in EURO 1980, 2-1 at both the 1990 and 2014 World Cups, and drawing 0-0 before winning on penalties in EURO 2012.
England have won just two of their last 14 meetings with Italy in all competitions (D5 L7), winning 2-0 in June 1997 and 2-1 in August 2013 – both in friendly matches. Indeed, England have won just one of their eight competitive meetings with Italy (D2 L5), 2-0 in a World Cup qualifier in November 1977.
This is the third major tournament (EURO/World Cup) final to be held at Wembley Stadium. The previous two were both won in extra time, with England beating Germany in the 1966 World Cup, and Germany beating Czech Republic in EURO 1996.
Italy are unbeaten in their last 33 matches in all competitions (W27 D6), scoring 86 goals and conceding just 10 in this run. This is their longest unbeaten stretch of matches in the nation’s history.

    SUB-LIME
Fans have been clamouring for Jack Grealish to see more action this summer at Euro 2020.
But the man himself is focused on just one thing – winning the tournament.
Wembley was abuzz with excitement when the Aston Villa ace came on in the 68th minute of last night’s 2-1 semi-final victory over Denmark.
But he lasted just 36 minutes on the pitch, before being sacrificed by Gareth Southgate for a more defensive option in Kieran Trippier.
Some players might have been miffed by such an incident.
Grealish, however, only cared about his team winning.
As reported by the Independent, Southgate went to Grealish to explain his decision at the final whistle.
But the midfielder, 25, replied: “Gaffer, it doesn’t matter. I’m not bothered. We’ve got to the final!”

    ARISE SIR GAZ
Boris Johnson today hinted Gareth Southgate could get a knighthood if England win the historic Euros final.
The PM lavished praise on the England boss after he took the Three Lions to their first final in 55 years last night.
England beat Denmark 2-1 on Wednesday night in an historic victory as skipper Harry Kane scored the winner in extra time.
After a tense 90 minutes finished 1-1, Three Lions fans were forced to endure the familiar pain of extra time in a semi-final.
Twitter erupted with people calling for the England boss to get given a gong to celebrate getting so far.
And the PM was grilled over whether he agreed this morning.
He replied: “I obviously wouldn’t want to anticipate anything that the honours people may decide.
“But clearly I think Gareth Southgate has done an absolutely outstanding job.
“What seems so amazing to me is how he varies it, he mixes it up, and plays a different series of options depending on the match in question. So best of luck for Sunday.”

    NO TRIPP UPS
Kieran Trippier says England learned three years of hard lessons to put together the performance that beat Denmark.
Trippier said: “We’ve learnt so much over the years, with the experiences we’ve had, we’ve been in two penalty shootouts since Russia, we’ve been to extra time.
“Going through that moment against Croatia was about learning.
“It’s all about experience and game management.
“Make no mistake, Denmark were very good, they’re a fantastic team.
“We’ve come a long way since the semi-final in Russia.
“We’ve got so many good players now, different players from back then. It’s about progressing, and I think we’ve made big steps since the World Cup.
“As you’ve seen from the start of the tournament to now, we give everything, we don’t stop, we don’t panic, we’re calm.
“We’ve shown that against Denmark. We stuck together and the togetherness in the team is incredible.”

    LIONS CHARGED
England have been hit with three charges from Uefa from their 2-1 Euro 2020 semi-final victory against Denmark.
A laser pen was shone in Denmark keeper Kasper Schmeichel’s eyes just before Harry Kane took his penalty.
The Leicester man still managed to save the spot-kick before Kane tucked home the rebound.
Uefa have charged England for this, as well as for fans booing the Denmark national anthem and for ‘letting off fireworks’.
A statement from the football governing body added: “The case will be dealt with by the Uefa Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) in due course.”
A financial penalty is the expected sanction.

    ITALY VS ENGLAND STATS

This is Italy’s 10th major tournament final (6 World Cup, 4 EURO), with only Germany (14) having played in more among European nations. Italy won the European Championship in 1968, but have lost their subsequent two final appearances in the competition (2000 and 2012).
This will be England’s first ever appearance in a European Championship final, and their first in the final of a major tournament since winning the 1966 World Cup. It’s the longest gap between major finals (World Cup/EUROs) for any European nation (55 years).
England are the 13th different nation to feature in a European Championship final (counting Czechoslovakia and Czech Republic as one) – just three of the previous 12 lost their first ever final in the competition Yugoslavia (1960), Belgium (1980) and Portugal (2004)

    HEAD-TO-HEAD

    GREAL BRAVE
England boss Gareth Southgate has explained why he substituted Jack Grealish just 36 minutes after he came on against Denmark.
Just a minute after Harry Kane had scored from his rebounded penalty to make it 2-1, Grealish was hauled off for Kieran Trippier.
ITV pundit Gary Neville called it ’embarrassing’ to happen to a player.
His fellow Manchester United legend Roy Keane praised Southgate for having a ‘nasty streak’ to get results.
And now the Three Lions gaffer has explained his reasoning behind subbing off the Aston Villa playmaker.
The 50-year-old told talkSPORT: “Jack had a brilliant influence on the game.
“Denmark threw four forwards forward and we needed five [defenders] back.
“Raheem [Sterling] was such a threat that it was either going to be Phil [Foden] or Jack to get the solidity without the ball.
“We still needed to get that pressure up the pitch. We sank a little bit too deep for five minutes or so.
“We just needed to keep the ball and it took us five minutes to work that out. When we started to keep it, we were running the clock down with a lot less anxiety.”

    DANE PAIN
Martin Braithwaite fumed ‘I have to be careful what I say’ when quizzed about England’s controversial penalty last night.
The Three Lions were awarded a spot kick during extra time against Denmark last night.
But replays showed that minimal contact was made on Raheem Sterling.
Harry Kane stepped up, burying the rebound after a superb Kasper Schmeichel save.
And the goal proved to be the winner, as England ran out 2-1 victors, booking their place in Sunday’s final against Italy.
While Three Lions fans have rejoiced, Denmark have been left wondering what might have been.
After the match, Barcelona forward Braithwaite, 30, said: “We have to swallow that.
“We are proud, but also incredibly disappointed in the way it happened.
“I don’t think it was entirely fair, but I have to be careful what I say.”

    FOR MUM AND DAD
Gareth Southgate said his parents no longer have to suffer the pain of his Euro 96 heartache after masterminding England’s run to the final.
The England manager let out a huge roar in front of an adoring Wembley faithful after the semi-final win over Denmark.
Southgate’s Three Lions beat the Danes 2-1 after extra-time to reach the European Championship final for the first time ever.
It is 25 years on from one of Southgate’s lowest moments in his football career.
The ex-England defender missed the decisive penalty at the old Wembley in the semi-final against Germany.
England were captained on that day by Arsenal’s Tony Adams.
And Adams appeared on Good Morning Britain on Thursday to reveal what the win over Denmark meant to current boss Southgate.
Adams revealed: “I text him (Southgate) congratulations because I’m so proud to be his pal. He came back with a beautiful answer.
“He said: ‘Thank god my mum and dad don’t have to put up with all that pain any more’.
“He’s making a new path now for all these young players, some of them weren’t even born when he missed that penalty.”

    JACK IT IN
Jack Grealish became just the third England substitute to be hauled off during a tournament match last night.
The first was at Euro 96 against Scotland.
Jamie Redknapp was thrown on by Terry Venables for Stuart Pearce at half-time.
But the Liverpool ace was then sacrificed with five minutes remaining for Sol Campbell.
A similar incident happened under Sven-Goran Eriksson a decade later at the World Cup in Germany.
Tottenham’s Aaron Lennon was brought on for David Beckham after 52 minutes against Portugal in the quarter-finals.
But ahead of a penalty shoot-out, Jamie Carragher replaced the winger with 119 minutes on the clock.

    TICKETY BOO HOO
Tickets for England’s historic Euro 2020 final with Italy are being sold online by touts for up to £50,000.
Fans desperate to attend Sunday’s sold-out Wembley clash face being fleeced by tickets flogged on secondary ticketing websites.
A pair of Category 1 tickets on reselling site Ticombo costs £40,000 – with a £10,000 booking fee pushing the total price up to an eye-watering £50,000.
The tickets are advertised as a pair, with the cheapest single seat for the final advertised on the site for £3,400.
Another site, Live Football Tickets. is advertising tickets for as much as £15,600 – but also charges fans £4,680 in additional service fees.
The tickets in Wembley’s Bobby Moore Hospitality section are sold as a pair, with the overall cost a mind-boggling £40,560.

    KANE YOU BELIEVE IT?!
Harry Kane has drawn level with Gary Lineker as England’s joint highest scorer at major tournaments.
The Tottenham striker fired the Three Lions to their first major final in 55 years at Wembley on Wednesday as he scored the rebound from his own missed penalty.
Raheem Sterling was caught in the penalty area with ref Danny Makkelie pointing to the spot.
Although it was soft, VAR did not see a clear and obvious error as their was contact and Kane stepped up.
The usually clinical hitman took a deep breath and hit a weak effort low to Kasper Schmeichel’s left and the Leicester goalie kept it out.
But the ball deflected back into Kane’s path and he slammed it in from close range to trigger glorious scenes inside the national stadium.

    BALL OVER
Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand hit out at the penalty decision that saw England progress into the final of the European Championships.
Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions came from behind to win 2-1 after extra-time.
Raheem Sterling won a penalty in the 104th minute with captain Harry Kane initially missing the spot-kick but scoring the rebound.
But relays revealed Sterling came within inches of dribbling past an extra ball before bursting into the box and being fouled.
Referee Danny Makkelie either missed the incident or decided the second ball was not interfering with play as the attack continued.
Hjulmand said: “We’re just very disappointed that we were so close to the final
“We’re disappointed it was decided that way. It was a penalty that shouldn’t have been a penalty, and that annoys me right now.
    “We’re disappointed, we’re very disappointed.
“It’s one thing to lose a game, that happens, but losing this way is just a disappointment, because these guys have fought a lot.
“It’s bitter; I think we have to digest this before we can describe these feelings, but it’s a bitter way to leave a tournament.”

    BERLIN CALLING
Harry Kane almost signed on loan for German side Union Berlin in 2012, according to Nico Schafer.
Schafer was head of football at the now Bundesliga side between 2011-2016, and had an interest in the England captain.
The German believed Kane was the perfect man to bring the Union Berlin attack together.
In particular, Schafer was a fan of Kane’s strength but revealed the Tottenham star was not keen on the move.
Schafer told German outlet SportBild: “Kane would’ve built our attack together with Simon Terodde in the 2. Bundesliga.
“His strength in the air was noticeable. And he was a striker who went down very often. He would have been a very good fit for Union.
“Despite Union’s special relationship with English football, Kane wanted to stay in England.”

    ENGLAND EXPECTS
There is just one more game to win before England can finally confirm ‘It’s Coming Home’.
Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions will play Italy in the Euro 2020 final after beating Denmark 2-1 after extra-time in the semis.
The nation is already in euphoria and that’s before the trophy has even been secured.
England have NEVER won the Euros – and the last time they even reached a major tournament final was in 1966 when they won the World Cup.
That means it has been 55 years of hurt for the long-suffering fans.
And there are plenty of other fascinating numbers to work with since that joyous 4-2 victory against West Germany, as the BBC have shared.
England have played 302 competitive matches, triumphing 180 times.
But winning more than losing still hasn’t bagged them major tournament silverware.
The Three Lions have scored an impressive 604 goals, only conceding 196.

    NEV CHANCE
Gary Neville reckons Bukayo Saka will be benched for England’s Euro 2020 final against Italy on Sunday.
The Arsenal youngster has been one of the Three Lions brightest talents throughout the tournament.
But Neville believes the 19-year-old prodigy may be overwhelmed by the occasion and should be replaced by either Jadon Sancho or Marcus Rashford.
Talking to Sky Sports, the ex-Man United defender said: “I am not sure he will start Sunday. I think that might just be too much for him.
“And I actually think it could be a game for [Marcus] Rashford or [Jadon] Sancho to accompany Sterling in those wide positions.
“I think those wide positions need to be quick players, who make out to in runs, so I don’t think we will see Saka on Sunday.”

    SOUR GRAPES?
FURIOUS Danish and Italian fans have branded England cheats and Three Lions hero Raheem Sterling a diver.
The comments came after Gareth Southgate’s national treasures stormed into England’s first major tournament final in 55 years with a 2-1 semi-final win over Denmark at Wembley on Wednesday.
But fans from both countries wasted no time in throwing barbs England’s way after their historic win.
Taking to Twitter after the win, Jesper Jacobsen wrote: “As a Dane, I have to say, you were far and away the better side for long periods. That doesn’t make Sterling’s dive less of a dive though.”
Mathis Hoj Kristensen added: “Proud of our boys, what a fantastic performance and tournament! But also furious about the dive from Sterling! #NoPenalty.”
Draken posted a picture of the ref and captioned it: “England’s man of the match tonight. #Sterling #dive #f***VAR.”
And in Italy – where fans saw their team reach the final with a penalty shootout win over Spain on Tuesday – they were equally critical of the Three Lions’ win.
Gazetta dello Sport wrote: “England had a growing Kane who was flattered by the football gods on penalties. It was harsh.”
And Shemsi called it ‘an absolute scandal’.

    AZZURI FORCE
The Italian Football Federation will allow 1,000 fans to travel to Wembley for the Euro 2020 final against England.
But there will be strict conditions for the travelling Italian fans, which include a five-day quarantine on their return.
They’ll only be allowed on British soil for 12 hours and will have to stay in a secure bubble by using charter flights and dedicated transport to get to and from the airport and the stadium.
The Italian FA will organise the trip and the Azurri faithful will have to cough up £524 each to see the spectacle.

    GAP BETWEEN MAJOR TOURNAMENT FINALS
    Fifty-five years of hurt…
