PSG are sitting on a £145million offer for Kylian Mbappe from Real Madrid. The French giants are determined to keep hold of the World Cup winner so they can go on and win the Champions League with Lionel Messi, but the star forward can walk away for nothing next summer.
Meanwhile Juventus are said to have already got to work on replacing Cristiano Ronaldo, with moves for Moise Kean and Eden Hazard mooted.
And the transfer of Jules Kounde to Chelsea has edged closer with the Frenchman out of Sevilla’s squad this weekend, while the Blues have sold Kurt Zouma to West Ham.

    READY FOR A TRIP
Manchester United have rekindled their interest in Atletico Madrid star Kieran Trippier, who was previously linked with Arsenal.
That is according to The Athletic, who claim that United may not be done yet after signing Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo during a very busy summer transfer window.
However, it seems like the Red Devils will only make a move if right-back Diogo Dalot exits before deadline day.
Dalot has attracted interest from Borussia Dortmund but it seems like he will still be at Old Trafford at August 31, when the transfer window slams shut
    SPECIAL RON
Roma manager, and former Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho had little to say about Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford.
Mourinho worked with Ronaldo for three years after the Portuguese coach took over at Real Madrid in 2010.
The former Chelsea and Tottenham manager said: “What I can say is basic, it’s logical.
“If Juventus are happy, if Ronaldo is happy and Man Utd are happy, then it’s a perfect deal – he has written history for the last 20 years.
“I have nothing more to comment”
    KLOPP ON ELLIOTT
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp explained he started Harvey Elliott in midfield due to tactical reasons ahead of the likes of Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Klopp said: “We had to change a little bit and wanted to change a little bit but then it’s about stability as well.
“It’s that period, before the international break, where there is no need for too many changes really.
“Hopefully the boys come back really fit and healthy and then we have games every three days; that’s different.
“But at the moment, the shorter pre-season, that’s how it is, Oxlade played, so it’s just like this, Hendo [Jordan Henderson] is back in the team… so it’s stability and of course football as well.
“Thiago had a short pre-season. We don’t just say thank-you to Kostas [Tsimikas], Naby and Diogo [Jota]. There will be plenty of times when we need them all”

    FIRMINO UPDATE
Liverpool star Roberto Firmino hobbled off the pitch on 43 minutes after picking up a hamstring injury against Chelsea.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp believes it’s “not too serious” but Firmino will undergo a scan to discover the extent of the damage.
Klopp said: “Serious? I don’t know. Serious enough to take him off? Yes.
“Bobby felt his hamstring, came over and told us and we had to prepare the change.
“Bobby is nobody who raises the hand when he doesn’t feel anything.
“It doesn’t look too serious but you never know before you have a scan and we will know tomorrow”
    TUCHEL ON KANTE
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel confirmed that N’Golo Kante injured his ankle once more against Liverpool and that is why he took him off.
Tuchel said during the post-match press-conference: “He is injured.
“He missed the Arsenal game because of pain in his ankle and inflammation.
“The opponent fell in his ankle, twisted it again, and he had the same pain as before the Arsenal game.
“He was lacking force to accelerate and we had to take him off”
    TUCHEL ON JAMES
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel described Reece James’ dismissal against Liverpool as a “double punishment”.
Tuchel said: “A double punishment is super hard and it’s a bit of a spoiler for the game. If the referee says he denies a clear chance, then it’s a red card.
“It’s a spoiler of the game, nobody wants to say that for 45 minutes. I’ve not solution now for it and no better idea. In general, it’s a spoiler.
“I can understand the decision and I’m not saying it’s wrong. I didn’t like the way the referee checked it because he was only shown the image. The image only shown the clear contact.
“I’d have liked a longer consideration. Maybe the decision stays the same. But I have to live with it. Some decisions stay with the responsibility in the moment”
    ZOUM CALL
West Ham have confirmed the signing of Kurt Zouma from Chelsea.
Zouma has put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the Hammers after a successful medical in Paris.
This opens the way for the Blues to sign Sevilla star Jules Kounde ahead of transfer deadline day.
The west Londoners are expected to use the profit from Zouma’s transfer to meet Kounde’s release clause

    TUCHEL REACTS
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel doubted the referee’s decision to send Reece James off with a straight red card after he handled the ball in the area.
Tuchel told Sky Sports: “The red card – I’m not even sure any more if it’s the rules or not the rules.
“You have to accept the decision. He maybe would have changed his mind with moving pictures.
“With pure will, resilience and team effort at its very best. Never lose the shape, try to close the half spaces.
“We decided to stay active in the back five because of all the runs in half spaces, the fluid runs from Liverpool and their high full-backs.”
    FERDINAND PRAISE
Manchester United hero Rio Ferdinand has praised the club’s hierarchy for moving fast to hijack Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester City.
Ferdinand told FIVE : “One thing I have to say is that the Man United hierarchy, when they needed to move there was no looking back. They performed, I must say, perfectly at every step, every point.
“There was no looking over their shoulder, there was no hesitancy about it.
“You have to understand that when someone like Ronaldo comes on the scene and there is an opportunity for him to come to a football club and continue his legacy and continue his history at this football club, if Man United had let that slip through their fingers, and for him to have gone across the city to the other side, you would have had to have had security 24/7 around the clock at the stadium, let alone the houses of some of the people involved in that.
“Listen, there has been a lot of criticism that has been pointed at different people in the hierarchy at Manchester United at whatever period of time it is”
    GETTY IMAGES
    RONALDO DEBUT
Cristiano Ronaldo is on his way back to Manchester United for a stunning homecoming.
Ronaldo will obviously play no part tomorrow against Wolves at Molineux, which means United fans will have to wait until after the international break to see the five-time Ballon d’Or winner back in action.
Therefore, the Portugal international is most likely to debut on September 11 against Newcastle at Old Trafford.
It will take a while, but the wait will be worth it
    FT: LIVERPOOL 1-1 CHELSEA
Liverpool and Chelsea drew 1-1 at Anfield in a rather dramatic encounter.
The Blues opened the scoring on 22 minutes with a sensational header by Kai Havertz.
But the Reds equalised in the fifth minute of stoppage time with Mohamed Salah’s penalty kick shortly before half-time.
The Merseysiders earned the spot-kick after Reece James was deemed to have handled the ball inside the area and was penalised with a straight red card.
But a spirited 10-man Chelsea managed to hold on for a point at Anfield
    CR7 AGAIN
Manchester United hero Rio Ferdinand has hinted that Edinson Cavani may have given up his No7 shirt for the returning Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo is set to return to United where he donned the iconic jersey number during his first spell at Old Trafford between 2003 and 2009.
Speaking on his FIVE YouTube show, Ferdinand said: “Just to think Cavani could be the back-up for Ronaldo, it’s unbelievable.
“Cavani, I have to say, what a man! He saw who was coming to town and gave up the No7 shirt”
    KOUNDE BOOST
Chelsea have been handed a transfer boost in their bid to sign Jules Kounde, who has told Sevilla of his desire to leave.
That is because the Rojiblancos have not taken Kounde to Elche for Saturday’s LaLiga encounter.
Should the deal fall through, the Blues may pull the plug on Kurt Zouma’s switch to West Ham.
SunSport revealed that a medical has already taken place in Paris for Zouma’s move to the Hammers.
But the west Londoners may not allow the £26million transfer to take place if Kounde does not arrive to replace his fellow Frenchman
    GETTY IMAGES
    KOU D’ETAT
Sevilla are reportedly demanding that Chelsea increase their transfer offer for Jules Kounde if they want to sign the star defender.
Kounde remains the Blues’ top target ahead of transfer deadline day.
A deal worth around £43million is said to have been agreed between the two clubs but the Andalusians could now press for a further £25m.
The centre-back’s release clause is set at £68.5m and Sevilla are hoping to earn close to that figure if the France international leaves in the final week of the window, according to Sky Sports.
    HT: LIVERPOOL 1-1 CHELSEA
Liverpool equalised in the fifth minute of stoppage time when disaster struck for Chelsea.
Blues star Reece James was deemed to have handled the ball inside the area following a brief check by VAR.
That led to a straight red card for James and a penalty kick that Mohamed Salah converted.
The west Londoners were livid after the decision with players from both sides arguing and yellow cards flying all over the place
    PEP TALK
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola broke his silence after the reigning Premier League champions missed out on Cristiano Ronaldo, who returned to rivals Manchester United.
Guardiola told BT Sport: “I don’t think frustrated is the right word.
“We have an exceptional squad and we have improved to have the best possible team to compete.
“It’s good that a player like Cristiano Ronaldo is back in England for the Premier League and it’s good news”
    LIVERPOOL 0-1 CHELSEA
Chelsea have opened the scoring at Anfield with Kai Havertz!
Reece James whipped in a corner-kick that was met by a brilliant header from Havertz on 21 minutes.
Liverpool goalkeeper Allison could do nothing to prevent the Blues’ opener.
    Advantage Chelsea!

    LIVERPOOL 0-0 CHELSEA
Liverpool and Chelsea are underway at Anfield in what poses as the biggest Premier League match of the week.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp opted for the following XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson, Henderson, Fabinho, Elliott, Salah, Firmino, Mane.
Whereas Blues manager Thomas Tuchel chose the following line-up: Mendy, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger, James, Jorginho, Kante, Alonso, Mount, Havertz, Lukaku.
    This game promises immense action!

    HAALAND REMINDER
Paris Saint-Germain are considering a move for Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland to replace Kylian Mbappe.
Real Madrid are reportedly on the verge of agreeing a staggering £154million deal with PSG for Mbappe, whose contract runs out next year and he has refused to extend his stay in Paris.
According to the Daily Telegraph, the Ligue 1 giants are believed to have contacted Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola over the possibility of a move before August 31, when the transfer window slams shut.
But a deal will be difficult to complete at this late stage and negotiations between PSG and Dortmund have yet to begin
    GETTY IMAGES
    KOUNDE REPLACEMENT BEING SOUGHT
Sevilla are in talks with Lille over a deal for Sven Botman.
The Dutchman is their preferred replacement for Jules Kounde if he is to join Chelsea.
Wolves have had a bid rejected for Botman as they try to bring him to Molineux; they remain interested but whether they will make another offer remains to be seen.
    PEP’S SATISFIED
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola insisted he was satisfied with his squad, despite missing out on signing Cristiano Ronaldo.
After City beat Arsenal he said: “We are the same that we have done the last two or three years in the past, maybe people forget everything that we have done.
“Always the club has to have the intention to get better, to improve, because the players change and this is normal, the manager changes, but the club has to get better, we cannot forget.
“The team was magnificent last season and is the same and with these players we are still going to go.”
When asked about the prospect of adding a striker this transfer window, Guardiola said: “No, I don’t think so.”
    NO DEAL
Tottenham’s interest in Adama Traore is up in the air after Wolves told them he is not for sale.
An initial loan deal with an option to buy was suggested but swiftly dismissed by the West Midlands club.
Spurs were subsequently told to forget the idea of signing Traore – but it remains to be seen whether they come back with a more concrete bid.
Sky Sports News reported earlier this month that he was high on their list of targets before the deadline, with boss Nuno Santo keen to work with him again.
    AMAD RUSH
Feyenoord are now joining the race with many clubs approaching Manchester United for Amad Diallo loan, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Talks are ongoing and Feyenoord are pushing but Premier League and Bundesliga clubs are still in.
The player’s camp will reportedly make a decision in the next few hours about where Diallo’s immediate future lies.
    JUVE MOVE
Juventus are reportedly eyeing Eden Hazard and Luka Jovic as options to fill the huge hole left by Cristiano Ronaldo’s Man United return.
And the Italian giants look set to re-sign Moise Kean on a two-year loan with an option to buy the Everton forward for £17million.
Spanish outlet AS claims the Turin side are keen on Real Madrid striker Jovic, 23, who netted four goals in 23 appearances on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt last term.
Meanwhile, Marca reports the Italian outfit are also keeping an eye on Jovic’s Madrid team-mate Hazard with both having struggled for game time at the Bernabeu.

    MOR INTEREST
Tottenham have been told to pay £17million if they want to sign Barcelona talent Ilaix Moriba.
The teenage ace has reportedly agreed personal terms with the Premier League club.
Moriba only has one year remaining on his current contract and has turned down the chance to sign a new deal.
The Guinea talent has been sidelined by Barca since rejecting a new four-year contract.
His future increasingly looks to lie away from the club and Spurs are leading the race to sign him.

    LUK AT ME NOW
Many players have struggled over the years to live up to their price tag but it’s nice to see that Romelu Lukaku’s transfer fee of £97.5 million hasn’t thrown the Belgian striker off his game not one bit.
As a matter of fact, it seems to have made him a little more confident or cocky depending on what way you look at it.
I like the system that we play and I’m very flexible. I can play as a two or by myself and I’m used to the system because it’s what we play with the Belgian national team so I don’t need much time to adapt. It’s just knowing the strengths of my team-mates in important positions and knowing what we do off the ball, then I can do the rest.Romelu LukakuChelseafc.com

The man, the myth, the legend, Chelsea’s very own Jorginho is in the starting eleven off the back of clinching UEFA’s Player of the Year award.
Will this triumph give him the boost needed to battle against a tough Liverpool midfield or will the likes of Fabinho and Henderson bring him back down to reality.

    CHELSEA XI
The Chelsea gaffer almost named an unchanged side from the victory in North London last Sunday over Arsenal but he opted to go with N’Golo Kante in the middle of the park instead of Mateo Kovacic.
But the one suprise comes from the bench and that is involving Loftus-Cheek who has been deemed to be eligible for this game after contracting covid-19 last week.
    (3-4-2-1) 16 Mendy; 28 Azpilicueta, 4 Christensen, 2 Ruediger; 24 James, 5 Jorginho, 7 N’Golo Kante, 3 Alonso; 19 Mount, 29 Havertz; 9 Lukaku

    LIVERPOOL XI
Jurgen Klopp has decided to make three changes from the side who cruised to a 2-0 victory last weekend against Burnley.
Fabinho makes his return to midfield in the absence of Naby Keita.
Despite Diogo Jota socring 2/2 in Liverpool’s opening games, the Reds boss puts his trust in Roberto Firmino to step in as the vocal point from the start.
And Andy Robertson has completely shaken off his ankle ligament damage resulting in the Scottish international regaining his spot back in the first XI in replace of Kostas Tsimikas.
    (4-3-3) 1 Alisson; 66 Alexander-Arnold, 32 Matip, 4 Van Dijk, 26 Robertson; 14 Henderson, 3 Fabinho, 67 Elliot; 11 Salah, 9 Firmino, 10 Mane

    AND ON THAT NOTE
    THE STARTING LINE-UPS ARE IN!
    CHELSEA TEAM NEWS
With the team sheets soon to be announced, Thomas Tuchel still has a couple of absentees but fortunately for the Chelsea boss, there are no new additions to the treatment table.
Both Christian Pulisic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are currently following Government protocols by self-isolating for a minimum of 10 days having recording a positive Covid-19 test.
This ultimately means that providing no further hiccups, the duo won’t be returning to action for the Blues until at least after the international break.
There was a slight concern over Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech who picked up a shoulder injury in Chelsea’s UEFA Super Cup win over Villarreal.
And despite Tuchel stating that Ziyech would be unavailable for the outing to the Emirates last Sunday, the ex-Ajax magician managed to get eight minutes in the tank to see out the 2-0 victory over Arsenal so it will be interesting to see whether he will be involved today.
Another player who felt the raft of Villarreal in that Super Cup triumph was UEFA Midfielder of the Year N’Golo Kante.
    Credit: @ChelseaFC
The French international felt a tweak in his ankle during the game and was forced off early which evidently resulted in him missing the first game of the Premier League campaign.
However, the World Cup winner made an 18-minute cameo appearance last weekend in North London and with a week’s worth of training under his belt, I would expect to see the 30-year-old back in the first XI.
    CHELSEA OPENING GAMES
Thomas Tuchel’s boys have picked up from where they have left off last season.
Entering the new campaign with a Super Cup to their name and now back-to-back convincing victories against London rivals Arsenal and Crystal Palace.

    NICE ONE SON
In continuation to Andy Robertson, congratulations are in order because the Scotland captain put pen paper this week signing a new deal which will keep him at Liverpool until 2026.
He could only make the bench in the previous 2-0 win against Burnley but I’m sure he would love to celebrate his new contract with a victory inspiring performance today over the Blues.

    LIVERPOOL SQUAD UPDATE
I can’t believe I am saying this and I know it’s early days but after their injury crisis last season the Reds only have one player in the treatment room during the course of a Premier League campaign and that unlucky member is Premier League legend, James Milner.
The Liverpool boss said: “Millie will not be ready – I think that’s it pretty much.”
Jordan Henderson and Thiago have fitness concerns due to less preparation time for the 2021/22 campaign having represented their respective countries in the EUROS this summer.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to return after the birth of his child last week and there is still speculation of whether midfield maestro, Fabinho will be involved following the tragic passing of his father.
However, Klopp has declared that all the players are fit enough to make an appearance and everyone “trained and looked sharp” ahead of the clash with Chelsea.
A major concern for the Liverpool gaffer was the situation on Andy Robertson who suffered an ankle ligament injury in the pre-season friendly against Athletic Bilbao.
The Scot was initially predicted to be on the side-lines for at least a couple months which left the whole club living in a de-ja-vu moment from last season’s injuries.
But thankfully for Klopp, the 27-year-old has made a miraculous recovery and has even stated that he is “ready to play” against Chelsea.
Discussing his injury, Robertson took to the club website to say: “Obviously I’ve been very lucky in my career that I’ve not had too many injuries and certainly not long-term injuries and long may that continue.
“But yeah, I’m a nightmare when I’m injured and I want to get back out on the pitch as quickly as possible.
“I’ll be ready, I’ll be ready to play, and like I said, I’ll hopefully be fit for the rest of the season now.”
    LIVERPOOL RECENT RESULTS
The 6x European winners mean business this year.
Two Premier League matches played, two victories recorded. Five goal scored and all without a single reply.
The perfect start to a season for Jurgen Klopp and his boys but the real test will be today.

    Credit: FcTables.com

    KON-FIDENCE IS KEY
As for the Merseyside giants, they haven’t secured a marquee addition which the fans would have hoped for after their poor title defence.
However, after the monstrosity of a situation Jurgen Klopp was left in following the injuries to all of his key defenders last season, the Liverpool recruitment team may have made the smartest signing of the window.
The Reds triggered the release clause of former RB Leipzig rock Ibrahima Konate bringing him to Anfield for only £36 million at the back-end of May.
Konate is a young highly-rated Frenchman who attracted a lot of attention from big clubs across Europe for his outstanding performances in the Bundesliga and the Champions League.
The former RB Leipzig defender is yet to feature in the Premier League for Liverpool this season but should Klopp be unfortunately left in another injury crisis again this campaign, then the Reds boss has an unbelievable talent to call upon at the back.
    SO RO-MANTIC
After failing to score a single goal in 16 appearances for Chelsea in his first spell with them, the Belgian talisman managed to get off the mark in under 15 minutes against Arsenal last weekend.
It truly was a love story.

    TRANSPARENT TUCHEL
It’s no secret that the Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is pleased with his mega summer signing this transfer window.
In a nutshell, the German almost ran out of compliments to smother Romelu Lukaku in when addressing the former Inter Milan striker in his post-match press conference against the Gunners.
I certainly think that nobody likes to play against him, everyone is aware of his physicality and his link-up play and ability to attack the space. He gives another dimension to our game. He’s got the whole package; he was always a Chelsea fan whose dream was to make it here.
    Thomas TuchelSkySports
    LUK OUT LIVERPOOL
The Reds don’t have Eden Hazard to deal with anymore but some may argue that Jurgen Klopp has an even bigger threat on his hands thanks to a certain Belgian goal-scoring machine.
Despite the Blues securing the club football’s biggest trophy last season, the Champions League and most recently the Super Cup, many pundits felt that Thomas Tuchel’s team had a missing piece to their jigsaw puzzle.
    Well, here he is!
Romelu Lukaku celebrating his first goal back in Chelsea colours
Chelsea were in need of a prolific finisher in the previous campaign but after seven years, they managed to bring Romelu Lukaku back to the club for a staggering £97 million.
This signing shows huge ambitions from the club in their hunt for the Premier League and it displays the pull of Chelsea because before a bid came in for Lukaku, he was so adamant on staying at his former club Inter Milan.
The Belgian marksman has already picked up where he left off in 2020/21 season by netting his first goal back in Chelsea colours against Arsenal and it only took him 14 minutes to do so.
But now Lukaku will be coming up against the likes of Virgil Van Dijk and Joel Matip where things will be a little more difficult for the Blues striker. Can he really prove to be the missing piece to Chelsea’s puzzle?
    GARDEN OF EDEN
    I have no words.
Just sit back and enjoy (if you don’t support Liverpool) because this is an outrageous goal by former Chelsea magician, Eden Hazard.

    FLASHBACK
The last time Liverpool welcomed Chelsea to Anfield, the Reds made history but for all the wrong reasons.
After going on a 68-game unbeaten home run over the course of a three year time frame, the 1-0 defeat by Thomas Tuchel’s men was Liverpool’s 5th consecutive defeat in Merseyside.
Chelsea were still in their honeymoon period with new manager Tuchel and they thought they had the perfect start to this fierce rivalry clash on the 25th minute through Timo Werner.
The German international latched onto a scrumptious through ball by Jorginho, before looping it over an oncoming Alisson and tapped the ball into an empty net.
However, VAR was quick on the scene to rule the strike out for offside having spotted Werner failing to time his run in an extremely tight call.
Sadio Mane then had the chance to add to Chelsea’s miseries moments later by putting Liverpool ahead, but the Senegalese international somehow mis-timed his shot after he was brilliantly picked out by Mo Salah with a cross field ball.
But that didn’t stop the Blues from ramping up the pressure and their persistence paid off right on the stroke of half-time when English starlet Mason Mount fired an absolute belter past the Liverpool goalkeeper thanks to a delightful ball from N’Golo Kante.
Despite Jurgen Klopp’s men illustrating a lackluster performance in the first 45, at only 1-0 down the Reds were still in with a chance of snatching some points from the match.
In the second half, their constant play of possession demonstrated more urgency, but the final third was letting them down – something you would hardly associate with Liverpool’s attacking options.
As time ticked on, Klopp’s side began to get desperate which left gaps at the back for Chelsea to exploit and had it not been for the bravery of Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson to keep out a Werner effort from close range, Liverpool would have been 2-0 down.
But the one goal was enough for Tuchel’s team to secure the victory and go seven points clear of the 5x Champions League winners who were stuck in seventh spot at the time.
    LEAGUE RANKINGS
It’s a little too early to class this game as a title decider but Liverpool and Chelsea are most certainly contenders to clinch the Premier League come the end of the 2021/22 campaign and both are off to the perfect start.
A win for either side would fire them to the summit of the table depending on the final results of West Ham’s trip to Crystal Palace and Brighton’s fixture against Everton.

    FANTASTIC
It’s so good to have fans back in the stadiums especially for huge encounter like the one this evening.
By the way, surely that little lad isn’t the only one turning up today?

    GOOD AFTERNOON
Come on in SunSport family, everyone is welcome as long as your hands are washed and sanitised.
I must admit, as fans of the beautiful game, tailing right back to the beginning of June, we have truly been spoilt this summer.
First of all, there was the Euros which ran alongside Copa America. Shortly after that, the Olympic Football came into play.
And then exactly a week later, the first game of the 2021/22 Premier League season got under-way where we witnessed new boys Brentford humiliate Arsenal on the opening day.
Since then, there has been nothing but drama across the division and in regards to the game that has been penciled in this afternoon, I am expecting a whole lot more entertainment.

    Jordan Henderson vs Jorginho
    Mo Salah vs Thiago Silva
Virgil Van Dijk vs Romelu Lukaku
    Jurgen Klopp vs Thomas Tuchel

Ladies and gentleman, our live blog today will be coverage of 5x Premier League winners Chelsea who are set to take on 5x Champions League winners Liverpool at the home of the Kop End commonly known as Anfield.
Both teams have had a blistering start to the season winning both of their opening games and also scoring five goals in two games with no reply.
    Talk about identical.
Jurgen Klopp’s men comfortably cruised past Norwich with a 3-0 victory on match-day one before putting Burnley to the sword last weekend.
As for the Champions of Europe, they are two for two in Premier League games and London derbies this season because both of their victories have ironically come against London based teams Crystal Palace and Arsenal.
What makes this game so enticing is that both clubs are joint at the top going into the third round of fixtures, however, someone’s 100% record to the start of the campaign, has to come to an end this evening.
Coming right up we will have all the latest gossip, injury news and of course, the highly anticipated starting line-ups all before kick-off which is scheduled for 17:30 UK time.
How else would you want to spend your Saturday afternoon other than continuing to tune in?

Cristiano Ronaldo becomes Man Utd TOP earner after £24m transfer as Cavani ‘gives up No7 shirt’ for pal, Haaland latest

CRISTIANO RONALDO will become Manchester United’s highest-paid player on around £480,000 a week. And he will be the club’s new No7, according to the Premier League website.
However, United’s site still shows Cavani with the famous jersey.
The Uruguayan is set to do battle with fellow veteran Ronaldo for a starting berth but has no intention of leaving, according to reports.
Erling Haaland will leave Borussia Dortmund next summer even if they win the Bundesliga, according to reports from Germany.
PSG are keen to sign the Norwegian now, but the club’s poor relationship with Dortmund and his desire to stay in Germany this season are set to derail the move.
And that would put United in pole position to complete the transfer over the coming year.

    ‘IT WILL BE GREAT’
Wayne Rooney is happy fellow Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo apparently came to his senses and sealed a return to Old Trafford, and not a move to rivals Man City.
Rooney was one of the few who publicly said – while it seemed every insider and transfer report suggested Ronaldo was heading to the Etihad – that he couldn’t see the deal happening.
After his Derby side drew with Nottingham Forest, Rooney said: “For the fans it will be great to see Cristiano back, it’s very exciting for everyone at the club.
“And for his teammates, too, for some of those young lads in the dressing room, Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford, some of these young lads who have grown up watching him play at Old Trafford.
“For them it would be a massive help, I’m sure. He’ll bring his mentality to the club.
“He’s still one of the best players in the world, so I think it’s a very good signing.”

    ‘FOUR-WAY RACE’
Rio Ferdinand believes Cristiano Ronaldo’s sensational transfer to Manchester United opens up the Premier League title race to four teams.
He told BT Sport: “What this does is make it a four-way race. I still think that City are the team to beat.
“They have the know-how, they’ve done it, they’re the champions and they’re the team who others have got to get past.
“You want it to be interesting, you don’t want it to be a one-horse race, you want loads of teams at it going into the new year and I think we’re going to have that this year.
“He left here as the best player in the world and he turned up in Manchester as someone who was about entertaining and skills etc, but he’s very much a man about stats now and you see his level last season.
“Chelsea brought in a striker for £98million, yes different ages and profile etc but Ronaldo outscored him in Serie A last season. That tells you the level that he’s at.”

    PRESSURE’S ON
Mikael Silvestre and Wes Brown joined talkSPORT to react to the biggest transfer deal of the summer window, which they claim ‘has to’ make the Red Devils Premier League title contenders.
Silvestre admits the pressure is now on Solskjaer to deliver, with Ronaldo set to help the Norwegian end the club’s nine-year wait for the English crown.
He said: “I was extremely happy to hear the news, it’s amazing for the fans, for the club and for the squad.
“He’s been a top professional everywhere he has been, he’s the driving force. He will bring so much energy and will be demanding of his teammates.
“The bar will be so high, that everybody will get better and better.”
Brown added: “He’s world class, he’s an experienced leader, he’s fully developed, he knows exactly what to do, and the young lads will watch him and I’m sure they will be taking all sorts of tips from him.
“He’s one of the fittest 36-year-olds out there in the world and he’ll know what his body is capable of. Once he has that shirt on and runs on the pitch, he’ll want to score, win games, help the team and win trophies. He’s not come back to just get paid, he’ll want to help Ole build this new team.”
    CR-SEVEN HOTELS
Cristiano Ronaldo plans to work on expanding his hotel empire when he returns to the UK, SunSport can reveal.
The 36-year-old is opening his first Manchester hotel in 18-months and sources say he is keen to ‘quickly widen’ his portfolio of properties.
Our source said: “Football comes first for Cristiano – it always has.
“But he is now coming to that point in his career where he is looking beyond the game and at what comes next.
“The amazing opportunities that exist off the field here in the UK are a key part of the reason he wanted to return.
“He will be very hands-on with his Manchester hotel project and will be looking to open more sites once the first one is up and running.”

    GARD OF HONOUR
Jesse Lingard has shared incredible throwback pictures of himself as a starstruck kid with Cristiano Ronaldo.
Lingard revealed the nostalgic moment after the superstar completed his sensational return to Manchester United.
Lingard posted the photos on Instagram with the message ‘Welcome home Cristiano’.

    GUT TO BE RIGHT
Sir Alex Ferguson insists he used gut feeling to decide if players like Cristiano Ronaldo would be the right type for Manchester United.
When questioned on what influenced his decision for player selection, Ferguson insists that he relied on his instincts.
The former Red Devils boss told United’s web site: “I believe in instinct.
“I had a good instinct about players and I had a good instinct about watching players who I maybe wanted to buy.
“I knew that, looking at certain players, I could see traits that told me they were Manchester United players, or Aberdeen players, or St Mirren players.
“I could see that in certain players I watched. Instinct was really important. Also on instinct, sometimes it’s picking the team.
“We’re playing certain teams and I’d have an instinct: ‘right, I’m not going to play certain players. I’ll play other players.’
    “I wouldn’t say it’s intuition, I’d say it’s instinct.”

    ‘IT’S A GIFT’
Tim Sherwood believes the Glazers have responded to fans protest in the best way possible by adding Cristiano Ronaldo to the signings of Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho.
And the former Tottenham boss believes CR7’s arrival places big pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to deliver.
He told Sky SPorts: “It’s a gift from the Glazers to the fans. After that debacle with the Super League I think they needed to do something.
“They (the fans) cannot demonstrate against Ed Woodward or the Glazers now.
“They’ve backed you, it’s heaped pressure on one mana- the manager of the football club.
“Now they’ve got the King, he’s come back. I agree, he’s not the same player but he and Messi are out of this world. They are super special players. Hopefully for United fans he can do it again for you.”
    LOAN MOVE
Salford City have confirmed the signing of Manchester United striker D’Mani Mellor on their official club website.
Salford City boss Gary Bowyer has moved to further bolster his attacking ranks, bringing in young striker D’Mani Mellor.
The Manchester United prodigy joins the Ammies on loan in his first temporary stint away from Old Trafford, linking up with the League Two side on a deal that will see him spend the season with Bowyer’s side.
Mellor’s arrival makes it nine signings for Salford City this summer.
    ‘NEED TO GO’
Tim Sherwood has claimed that three Man Utd players need to leave the club with Cristiano Ronaldo returning.
Sherwood believes that the Ronaldo signing means that a few won’t “get in the squad” at United. He told Premier League Productions that Jesse Lingard, Dan James and Anthony Martial “need to go”.
He said: “Jesse Lingard misses out, I think he needs to go and play for West Ham. He had a great time there last year, he looked like he wanted to go and play football and he was outstanding. I think it’s his time to leave the club.
“I think Daniel James might leave as well. Leeds are chasing him and he played well against them in the first game of the season. It was a great rehearsal for him. He’s got outstanding pace and directness. I think he’ll be another one [who leaves].
“For me, Anthony Martial will be moved on. If they’ve got a home for Martial and they can get the right money, I think they will shake hands and say it never worked out.
    ‘GREAT TO HEAR’
News of Ronaldo returning to Manchester United has attracted the attention of big names, including in the combat world.
Lifelong United fan Conor McGregor gave his response on Twitter, saying: “Congrats Cristiano and Man United! Great to hear this!”
Tyson Fury is another famous United fan in the combat sports world.
Boxing’s WBC heavyweight world champion was once even invited by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to speak to the squad for motivational purposes.
He is in training for the trilogy with Deontay Wilder at present, but had his team post an Instagram story to celebrate the news of Ronaldo’s return.

    ‘IT’S FRUSTRATING’
Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman has said it is frustrating the club are unable to compete with Manchester United, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain in the transfer market.
Manchester United are set to follow up the signings of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane by bringing Cristiano Ronaldo back to the club from Juventus.
Koeman said: “On the one hand I understand it.
“For everyone that wants the best for the club, it’s frustrating, I understand it. On the other hand, we have to be realistic. Economically, the club can’t compete with other clubs, with Paris, City, United. That’s how it is at the moment.
“We can’t demand what has been demanded before at this club. We have to understand the moment the club is in.”
    RONALDO LATEST
Cristiano Ronaldo will have a medical in Lisbon this weekend as he closes in on a sensational return to Manchester United, per Sky Sports.
Personal terms on a two-year deal have been agreed in principle.
    CR7 IS BACK
The Premier League claim Cristiano Ronaldo is Manchester United’s new No7 on their official website.
But the competition also has Edinson Cavani listed down as United’s No7 as speculation begins to rise about his new shirt number.
The Premier League have now added Ronaldo, 36, to Man Utd’s squad for the 2021-22 campaign and updated his player page.
The competition have listed the Portuguese forward as United’s No7 but are yet to strip Cavani of the shirt in a confusing update.
Man Utd haven’t announced Ronaldo’s shirt number and Cavani’s No7 jersey is still available to buy on the club’s website.

    MORE DOUBTS…
Like Graeme Souness, Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson is not convinced by the deal to sign Ronaldo.
Speaking on Soccer Saturday, Merse said: “I don’t think he will be nowhere near as good [as last time in the Premier League]. 50 per cent [as good]?
“His numbers are still phenomenal, don’t get me wrong, but if he does it at 36 in the Premier League, you’d have to think he is not human!
“Does it knock Greenwood and Sancho back? They will certainly be able to watch him and think, ‘This is how I’ve got to live my life for the next 10 years because it’s a short career. He will set an example but will he win the league for Man Utd? I’m going to say no.
“I still sit here now and think, why didn’t they sign Harry Kane to give you a three-, four-year option? This is a big deal for – in my opinion – one season only. He was unplayable last time but I just don’t see that in the Premier League now.”
    RONNY REPLACEMENT
Juventus are close to signing Cristiano Ronaldo’s replacement with Moise Kean set to join.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the striker is due in Turin in the next 24 hours for a medical after agreeing personal terms.
The initial deal is for a loan, with an obligation to buy, and the total value of the move will be about £17m.
    RONALDO FEVER
The Manchester United Megastore will not begin printing ‘Ronaldo’ on shirts until Tuesday, it has been revealed.
Samuel Luckhurst of Manchester Evening News has spoken to staff at the store in light of Ronaldo’s impending move to Old Trafford.
He tweeted: “A Ronaldo scarf seller has done decent trade this morning on the Old Trafford concourse: he sold out of scarves. Megastore staff say they are not printing ‘Ronaldo’ on shirts until Tuesday.”
    FURTHER DEALS?
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may not be finished in the transfer market, with AS reporting a late return for Kieran Trippier is a distinct possibility.
Arsenal are also keen on the Atletico Madrid player, however, it’s Manchester United who are ‘above all’ leading the chase.
The Spanish newspaper talks of a ‘final rush’ from the Premier League for their players, with Trippier and Saul Niguez mentioned.
Regarding the defender, Manchester United are said to be considering a late offer, but Atletico are determined to keep their player or sell him for an above market price.
That would be £34million, and it remains to be seen whether the English club will try and test the resolve of Los Rojiblancos.

    ‘THEY PERFORMED’
Former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand has hailed the Old Trafford club’s hierarchy for agreeing a deal with Juventus to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ferdinand said on his FIVE Youtube channel: “One thing I have to say is that the Man United hierarchy, when they needed to move there was no looking back. They performed, I must say, perfectly at every step, every point.
“There was no looking over their shoulder, there was no hesitancy about it.
“When someone like Ronaldo comes on the scene and there is an opportunity for him to come to a football club and continue his legacy at this football club, if Man United had let that slip through their fingers, and for him to have gone across the city to the other side, you would have had to have had security 24/7 around the clock at the stadium, let alone the houses of some of the people involved in that.
“Listen, there has been a lot of criticism that has been pointed at different people in the hierarchy at Manchester United at whatever period of time it is.”
    ‘GOOD NEWS’ SAYS CARLO
Ronaldo’s move to Manchester United is capturing everyone’s attention, including former manager Carlo Ancelotti.
The Real Madrid manager expressed his happiness for CR7 and United, and his counterpart Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
He said: “It’s good news as Ronaldo returns to a team he loves a lot and did very well for a long time. I’ve a good relationship with their manager, like the club.”
    BIG BUCKS
Cristiano Ronaldo’s £480k-a-week wages at Man United make him the best paid Premier League star by nearly £100,000… but he still earns LESS than Lionel Messi and Neymar at PSG!
The 36-year-old sealed a dramatic move back to United on Friday after he looked set to join rivals Manchester City just hours before.
The move will see him return to the Red Devils 12 years after leaving for Real Madrid and he now looks set to become the highest paid player in the top flight, overtaking the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, Harry Kane and David de Gea.
Manchester City midfielder De Bruyne had been on the highest base salary in the Premier League, with the Belgian pocketing an eye-watering £385,000 while United keeper de Gea is on just £10,000 less than him per week.
    ‘WELCOME TO MANCHESTER’
An advert with the famous ‘Welcome to Manchester’ phrase has appeared in Manchester Piccadilly train station in the city centre — but this time with Cristiano Ronaldo celebrating a goal and a red background.
The billboard, which will be in place for a week, is the work of SportBible, who have marked Ronaldo’s sensational move with a chance to wind up City fans.
It is also revenge against City after they unveiled a poster to welcome Carlos Tevez to the club following his infamous switch across the city.
The billboard is set to be put up next week.

    ‘ICING ON THE CAKE’
Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United will provide extra belief within their squad they can win the Premier League but Manchester City remain the favourites, says Mark Bosnich.
He told Sky Sports: “I do think they were contenders at the start of the season…now Ronaldo is the icing on the cake.
“I still believe Manchester City are favourites but the odds are closing and closing rapidly.
“At Juventus he scored 101 goals in 134 appearances and that was in Serie A. They won the league twice the Italian Cup and the Super Cup as well.
The ultimate aim is to become true title contenders and I believe this signing will make them that.”

And the transfer of Jules Kounde to Chelsea has edged closer with the Frenchman out of Sevilla’s squad this weekend.

    WILL HE GO?
Willian will decide tomorrow if he’s to terminate his contract with Arsenal and return to Brazil, according to ESPN reporter Joao Costelo-Branco.
He reports interest in the winger from clubs around Europe, but claims Corinthians is the best option on the table currently.
That would present Willian with the chance to move back to his native Brazil after 14 years playing in Europe.

    AGENT BRUNO
Manchester United fans are enjoying quite the transfer window – yet are seemingly still not quite satisfied as they urge midfielder Bruno Fernandes to help get one last deal over the line.
In response to the Ronaldo news Fernandes tweeted: “Agent Bruno?, Welcome back home Cristiano.”
However, the tweet was taken a tad too literally by some sections of the United fanbase, as Fernandes were inundated with requests to sort a transfer between another one of his Portugal teammates in Ruben Neves.
United’s need for a midfielder in the traditional ‘number six’ role has been well documented, with the performances of both Fred and Scott McTominay leaving a lot to be desired.
Twitter quickly became littered with United fans barking their orders at both Fernandes and the club themselves to try and secure a deal for Neves before the window closes in just four days time.
    NEW DEAL
Inter Milan have reached an agreement with Lautaro Martinez to extend his contract, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
The striker had attracted interest from Arsenal and Tottenham this summer but expressed his desire to stay at Inter.
Martinez scored 17 goals in 38 games last season and the news should be well received by Inter fans following Romelu Lukaku’s departure.

    CONFIRMED
Aston Villa striker Wesley has joined Club Brugge on a season-long loan.
The 24-year-old, who moved to Villa Park from the Belgian side in a the club-record deal two years ago, has been limited to just four substitute appearances since recovering from a serious knee injury that kept him sidelined for nearly 16 months.
Villa hope the return to his former club, where he previously spent three seasons, can reignite the Brazilian’s career.
Wesley has made 26 appearances for Villa, scoring five goals.

    AUBA NEWS
Juventus are not planning for a move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to Fabrizio Romano.
That is because they have tied up a deal to sign Everton’s Moise Kean on loan as Cristiano Ronaldo’s replacement.
And the Serie A side will now focus on extending Paolo Dybala’s current deal instead of making a move for the Arsenal captain.
    DONE DEAL
Crystal Palace have confirmed the signing of Will Hughes from Watford.
The midfielder had been linked to Newcastle this summer but he moves to Selhurst Park for a fee of around £6million.
He arrives in South London as Patrick Vieira’s sixth summer arrival, signing a three-year deal.

    HEE’S GONNA COME
Wolves are close to completing a deal to sign RB Leipzig forward Hwang Hee-Chan.
The South Korea international is set to join on an initial loan with an option to buy for more than £12.8m (€15m).
Hwang is scheduled to fly into Birmingham tonight and undergo a medical tomorrow morning once the final details have been sorted.
The 25-year-old has scored three goals in 29 appearances for Leipzig since moving from sister club RB Salzburg, where he scored 45 in 126.
    KEAN TO MOVE
Moise Kean’s move to Juventus is a done deal, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The striker is due in Turin in the next 24 hours for a medical after agreeing personal terms.
The initial deal is for a loan, with an obligation to buy, and the total value of the move will be about £17m.

    NU TALK FROM NUNO
Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo is remaining tight-lipped about Hugo Lloris’s future.
The Spurs goalkeeper became the club’s all-time record Premier League appearance holder when he played his 300th game at Wolves last week and impressed in a 1-0 win.
The France international, 34, is out of contract next summer and there is currently no word on a fresh deal.
Nuno did not want to discuss the matter when pushed on it.
He said: “I think what Hugo achieved is huge, playing 300 matches for a club. It shows a lot of dedication and loyalty and hard work. This is what we expect from all of us, hard work, and Hugo is not an exception.
“He’s playing fantastically and he needs to keep on going. Every one of us keeps on going and improving.”
    FOXES READY TO POUNCE
Leicester City are in ‘pole position’ to secure a deal for Ajax forward David Neres but are yet to make an official offer.
That’s according to Ajax Showtime, who say Leicester are the ‘most serious candidate’ to secure a move for the Brazilian.
They say that recent rumours about a potential move to Lyon are yet to turn into anything serious, and now Leicester ‘seem to want to put a stop’ to it.
The Foxes reportedly see Neres as a ‘desired reinforcement’ for their squad and are showing ‘concrete’ interest in making a move happen.

    CR7 REPLACEMENT
According to AS, Juventus have identified Luka Jovic as a potential replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo after they agreed to sell the striker to Manchester United for £12.8million.
The 23-year-old striker – who joined the Galacticos in the summer of 2019 for £62m – has struggled to adapt to life at the Spanish giants.
Real are said to be open to selling the 23-year-old for around £30m this summer.
Should a deal for through, Jovic will be playing alongside the likes of Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata – increasing his changes of rejuvenating his career.
    ROYAL BLUE RAHMAN
Baba Rahman is embarking on another loan spell away from Chelsea with Reading signing the out-of-favour Blues player.
The Ghana international, whose move has been hailed by Royals gaffer Veljko Paunovic, made his last appearance for the Stamford Bridge giants back in 2016.
His past loan stints include spells with Schalke, Stade Reims, RCD Mallorca and at Greek side POAK Salonika last term.
    CAN’T CALL SAUL
Chelsea pursuit of Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez has collapsed just days before the end of the transfer window, according to reports.
The Spanish midfielder is thought to be reluctant to moving to Stamford Bridge because Thomas Tuchel can’t guarantee game time.
According to 90min, Chelsea were on the verge of agreeing a deal with Atletico before the 26-year-old rejected the Blues.
Saul is said to have wanted guarantees over his playing time with Tuchel already having several top midfielders at his disposal.
N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Trevoh Chalobah and Ethan Ampadu are among those battling it out for CM role.

    AM GUNNAR GO
Amad Diallo will leave Manchester United on loan for the season after Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed.
Reports last week suggested Atalanta want to take the teenager back on a temporary basis, and Sheffield United have also emerged as surprise candidates for his signature.
But Solskjaer refused to confirm the location until the deal has been rubber-stamped.
Speaking ahead of his side’s trip to Wolves on Sunday, the Norwegian told MUTV: “Yes I do [expect him to go out on loan]. It’s not 100 per cent signed but we’ve agreed.
“I don’t have to say which team it is yet, but we’ve found a place that Amad feels excited about and we feel excited about.”

    IDOLISING JOSE
Tammy Abraham says his ambitions at Roma are matched by manager Jose Mourinho, but says the Portuguese was not the sole factor behind him moving to the Italian side from Chelsea.
Abraham said of his new boss: “He is a big impact on why I’m here but going up I used to watch Roma so I’ve known about Roma for a long time.
“Rudiger has told me so many good things about Roma, and obviously Jose the manager he’s very successful, he’s very ambitious and passionate.
“I’m the same. It’s nice to have someone of such a high calibre being manager of such a great team.”

BUT HE IS BEATEN BY VERSTAPPEN
Heartbreak for Russell, who is dumped down to second, but still, what a result for the Brit.
He outqualifies Hamilton, who is third. The grid is Verstappen, Russell, Hamilton, Ricciardo, Vettel, Gasly, Perez, Bottas, Ocon, Norris.
    RUSSELL TAKES PROVISIONAL POLE
The track is drying and the Brit smashes in a time at the top. Sensational stuff.
    ONE MINUTE TO GO
Hamilton still on provisional pole from Perez and then Verstappen. They will all have one more go.
    HAMILTON STRUGGLING
He is wrestling to keep that Merc on the road. He is fighting it. Spray going everywhere.
He completes the lap to take a provisional pole.
HAMILTON: “STILL A LOT OF SPRAY”
The world champion is out on track and his team tell him to pull back in again if he feels uncomfortable out there.
He is told that no rain is expected.
    GREEN LIGHT
It will be a busy eight minutes and 59 seconds as qualifying gets underway after a 40 minute delay.
QUALIFYING WILL RESUME IN 2 MINUTES
Time to go again while there is a break in the rain.
    SAFETY CAR OUT
They are checking on the conditions to see if qualifying can resume. It is still raining.

    PLENTY OF CLEARING UP
Norris is being checked out by medics but it OK, as the clean up to recover his McLaren and the debris.
This corner is proving to be a problem. Especially with the way it spits cars back into oncoming traffic.
NORRIS IS HURT – BUT WALKING TO THE MEDICAL CAR
He is holding his arm. TV replays show he was aquaplaning coming up the hill at Eau Rogue.
He hit the wall and into the left handside barrier, which spits his McLaren back out across the track.
Luckily, no other cars were running behind him, as he would have been hit a second time, and they would have smashed into him.
Vettel is first arrive on the scene and pulls over to check Norris. He gets the thumbs up.
The German is livid Michael Masi, the FIA Race Director did not stop the qualifying.

RED FLAG – HUGE CRASH FOR NORRIS
    Session has been stopped.

Q3 IS GO – TOP 10 SHOOT OUT IS ON
But, the heavens have opened and it is pouring down. Vettel is calling for the session to be red flagged. Says there is “too much water”.
Norris also saying he is aquaplaning in his McLaren.
    Visibility is very poor.
RUSSELL GETS IN TO Q3 AGAIN
Great result from the soon-to-be Merc man. He makes it into the top 10 shoot out.
Eliminated are Stroll, Alonso, Sainz, Latifi and Leclerc.
Leclerc is not happy. Tells his Ferrari team: “We f***** it up. We will talk about it later.”
    WOW THAT WAS CLOSE
Hamilton left it late but he makes it in to Q3 at the final attempt. Bottas also squeezes through.
But it is that man Norris who again tops the time sheets.
TWO MINUTES TO GO AND THE MERC DUO ARE IN THE DROP ZONE
Incredible stuff here in Spa. With rain looming, Hamilton is at risk of getting booted out of Q2. He is in 11th.
    HAMILTON IMPROVES…BUT ONLY JUST
He is in seventh, one place behind George Russell’s Williams. Bottas in 10th.
The two Mercs are in grave danger here.
    IN THE DROP ZONE…
    Bottas, Hamilton, Alonso, Ocon, Latifi.
Merc need to get a move on.
LANDO NORRIS HAS HAD HIS WEETABIX
The Brit is flying. He smashed Q1 and is now leading in Q2. This is sensational in such tricky conditions.
    GREEN LIGHT Q2 IS GO
Carlos Sainz has been told that rain is expected five minutes into the session.
So expect to see plenty of drivers on inters going out early to try and make Q3. Would any of the Williams attempt a run on slicks? Would be brave…

    NORRIS WAS FLYING THERE
Took P1 from Verstappen by a whopping 0.416 seconds. Mega stuff from the McLaren man.
THIS IS GOING TO BE CLOSE…
Raikkonen, Mazepin, Schumacher, Tusnoda, Giovinazzi all in the drop zone.
    NORRIS NOW GOES QUICKEST
The Brit swaps on to intermediate tyres and tops the time sheets, as more rain is expected.
Verstappen in second place. Hamilton in fourth, which should see him through.
    RUSSELL GOES QUICKEST
The track is now drying and the teams will soon be switching to intermediate tyres. It is currently Russell, Latifi, Norris, Verstappen.
    SPIN FOR LATIFI
Thought those intermediate tyres were a gamble. The Canadian slides off, spins but avoids the barriers.
He is fortunate to escape the boggy conditions and make his way back on track.
GREEN LIST – QUALIFYING IS GO
Interesting that Russell and Latifi have opted for intermediate tyres in the hope of scraping in to Q2.

Man City 5-0 Arsenal LIVE RESULT: Ferran Torres bags brace as City run riot after Xhaka red card

ARSENAL’s start to the season has gone from bad to worse at the Etihad today.Ilkay Gundogan and Ferran Torres netted in the first ten minutes to pile the pressure on Mikel Arteta.
Granit Xhaka then compounded the Gunners’ woes by getting himself sent off for a two-footed tackle before Gabriel Jesus netted a third.
Rodri then scored a fourth goal for the hosts after half time before Torres rounded things off with his second of the day and City’s fifth.

    GOODBYE
That’s the end of a dark afternoon for Arsenal, who find themselves pointless, goalless and bottom of the Premier League after a third consecutive defeat to start the season.
The knives are being sharpened for Mikel Arteta, particularly on social media, but many are speaking out in support of the Gunners boss.
One of those is his former colleague and today’s opposite number, Pep Guardiola.
Yet while the Man City boss may worry for his friend, he must be delighted by his own side’s past week in which they have scored ten goals during two 5-0 home wins. Harry who? Cristiano Ronaldo? No, thanks.
The reigning champions are back in their familiar position of first place, but that could all change within the next couple of hours with five further Premier League games in play.
    ARTETA ON THE BRINK?
Is time running out for Mikel Arteta at the Emirates? That’s the verdict of Martin Blackburn in the wake of Arsenal’s latest defeat.
The travelling Gunners fans were so disheartened they were actually celebrating when Rodri made it 4-0 to the home side. In the Premier League at least, they have forgotten what that feels like.Martin Blackburn

    PEP BACKS ARTETA
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola hopes Arsenal will give Mikel Arteta time to turn the club’s fortunes around.
Arteta previously worked as a coach under Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium before leaving to take the top job at the Emirates.
[Mikel Arteta] is incredibly beloved by all of us at Many City. He’s beyond a good manager. We were sad when he left. Sometimes people expect results immediately. The squad today had six, seven or eight injured. Important players too like Ben White and Thomas Partey. If they trust him, he’ll do a good job at Arsenal.Pep GuardiolaBT Sport

    AUBA FACES THE MUSIC
Arsenal skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang believes the Arsenal team must take the collective blame for today’s horror show, insisting they didn’t take the necessary risks to trouble City before Granit Xhaka’s sending off.
The team is to blame. Today it wasn’t enough. Against a team like City, at 11 against 11, you have to take risks and be brave on the ball, and we didn’t do that. We now have to work hard as a team and stick together. This is how we move forward.Pierre-Emerick AubameyangBT Sport
    CITY FEELING FIVE ALIVE
Manchester City have become the third side in Premier League history to hit a total of ten goals in their opening two home games, and, in doing so, have made it three consecutive 5-0 home wins either side of the summer.

    ARSENAL INQUEST
A great many questions will be asked of Arsenal and Mikel Arteta in the coming days and weeks.
It’s been a tough start to the season for the Gunners with games against Chelsea and Manchester City – as well as the opener at newly-promoted Brentford with Covid-19 rampant at the club – but the manner of their surrender today must be examined.

    RELIABLE RODRI

    FULL TIME STATS
Arsenal’s one attempt and 19% possession are the lowest figures the club has ever recorded since Opta began documenting such statistics.
The 25 shots totalled by Manchester City are the most the Gunners have faced since Mikel Arteta took charge.

    FT: MAN CITY 5-0 ARSENAL
Arsenal slump to the bottom of the Premier League with a third straight defeat to open the season – and this is the most worrying of the lot. The Gunners were torn apart by their superior hosts, but failed to match them for belief and determination. On the flip side, City have moved temporarily to the top of the table following goals from Ferran Torres (2), Ilkay Gundogan, Gabriel Jesus and Rodri.
    PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!ARSENAL’S ORDEAL IS OVER!

    MAN CITY 5-0 ARSENAL
90+2. Another excellent stop from Leno!
It’s great football all round as Gundogan picks out the run of Cancelo with a lofted pass.
The Portuguese defender controls brilliantly in the box, and looks set to make it six with the follow-up shot, only for the Arsenal goalkeeper to deny him.
    MAN CITY 5-0 ARSENAL
90+1. Leno saves – and we’ve said that a few times today.
The German denies Mahrez’s low shot and then recovers to claim the loose ball before Sterling can pounce.
You dread to think how today would have looked with a different goalkeeper between the sticks.
    MAN CITY 5-0 ARSENAL
    88. Manchester City had won their previous two Premier League home games 5-0, against Norwich last weekend and Everton back in May.
They’re a couple of minutes plus injury time away from making it three in a row.
    MAN CITY 5-0 ARSENAL
    86. City keep on pouring forward.
Sterling is crowded out and then Laporte finds himself on the end of another delivery, but still can’t get his angles right to find the target.
    MAN CITY 5-0 ARSENAL
    84. Two for Ferran Torres, five for Manchester City!
And it’s all so, so simple. With time and space, Riyad Mahrez delivers the perfect cross from the right, and there was Torres to head past Bernd Leno and in off the post.

    GOOOOOAAAAAAAAAALLLLLL!!FERRAN TORRES MAKES IT FIVE!!
    MAN CITY 4-0 ARSENAL
    83. Oooh, hello! Smith Rowe bursts into the City box, and pulls a cross back…
….that is comfortably collected and cleared by Laporte.
    Still, it’s a start, right?
    MAN CITY 4-0 ARSENAL
    80. Tierney soldiers on but given his injury record, it’s a concern.
Meanwhile, Sterling almost gets on the end of a searching cross from the left, but even he lacks the pace to meet a pass that is swerving away from him.
    MAN CITY 4-0 ARSENAL
    78. If you thought it couldn’t get any worse for the Gunners, where have you been for the past five years?
Kieran Tierney, glass ankles and all, has gone down on the far side, and doesn’t look as though he’s able to continue.
Arsenal have already made all three of their subs.
    MAN CITY 4-0 ARSENAL
    76. It should be five!
Sterling rolls off the back of Kolasinac, and travels on to Mahrez’s through ball.
Faced with just Leno, the City forward tries to slide a shot past him, but the Arsenal goalkeeper stands tall to block.
    MAN CITY 4-0 ARSENAL
    74. The visitors have just carried the ball into the City half for the first time in the second period.
    Small victories.
    MAN CITY 4-0 ARSENAL
    73. Arsenal’s gameplan in this half, first, foremost and only, has been to deny City adding to their score.
Which is just as well otherwise…
10 years ago today on 28 August 2011, Arsenal lost 2-8 in Manchester.— Orbinho (@Orbinho) August 28, 2021

    MAN CITY 4-0 ARSENAL
    72. BT Sport commentator Darren Fletcher has just noted that Ederson has touched the ball three times in this half, and they’ve all been passes out to teammates.
    MAN CITY 4-0 ARSENAL
    71. Arsenal make their third and final change.
Martin Odegaard has barely had a touch on his return to the Gunners, and now takes his leave for Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
    MAN CITY 4-0 ARSENAL
    68. Sterling is eager to get himself on the scoresheet, and goes close with two efforts in the matter of seconds.
The substitute escapes from his marker in the box to loop Mahrez’s cross over Leno with his head, only for the Arsenal keeper to tip over with a smart save.
Then from the short corner, Sterling steps in from the right and sends a whipped curler just wide of the far post from 20 yards.

Amazement seems the main instant reaction on social media to Cristiano Ronaldo rejoining Manchester United.

But others suggested United don’t need the 36-year-old.
Here’s a quick snapshot of opinions:

    DANCING IN THE STREETS?
Here’s how Sky Sports announced the Red Devils recapturing Ronaldo.

    RONAL-GO
Cristiano Ronaldo is on the brink of a sensational return to Manchester United.
The 36-year-old was available at 20/1 to rejoin the Red Devils last week and 6/1 on Friday morning. But those odds have now plummeted to 1/12 after some frenetic activity in the betting market.
City were considered frontrunners for his signature after missing out on Tottenham talisman Harry Kane.
But reports suggest the Premier League champions are now completely out of the running at odds of 33/1.

    HOME RON – LATEST
Cristiano Ronaldo is on the verge of a shock return to Manchester United after a £21.4million bid was launched for the Juventus star.
Premier League champions Manchester City have pulled out of the running despite being tipped to sign the wantaway striker.
The Athletic state that Ronaldo‘s camp are in advanced talks with United over a deal, with a two-year contract mooted. Goal say it’s a done deal.
A medical in Lisbon is planned, as reported by the Mail.
And Sir Alex Ferguson has even thrown his weight behind the deal by contacting the player personally on Friday morning, according to MEN.
The forward, 36, said his goodbyes to his Juventus colleagues after informing coach Massimiliano Allegri of his decision to leave.
Allegri confirmed to reporters: “Yesterday Cristiano told me that he has no intention of continuing at Juventus. I am absolutely not disappointed. He has made his choice.”

    ‘DONE DEAL’
Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United is reportedly a done deal!
That is according to Goal’s Juventus correspondent Romeo Agresti.
Man City pulled out earlier today and a Red Devils return has now reportedly been sealed for the 36-year-old.

“My story at Real Madrid has been written. It’s been recorded. In words and numbers, in trophies and titles, in records and in headlines. It’s in the Museum at the Bernabeu Stadium and it’s also in the minds of every fan of the club.
“And beyond what I achieved, I remember that in those nine years I had a relationship of deep affection and respect for ‘merengue afición’, an affection and respect that I retain to this day, and that I will always cherish.
“I know that the true Real Madrid fans will continue to have me in their hearts, and I will have them in mine.
“As well as this most recent episode in Spain, there have been frequent news and stories associating me with a number of clubs in many different leagues, with nobody ever being concerned about trying to find out the actual truth.
“I’m breaking my silence now to say that I can’t allow people to keep playing around with my name.
“I remain focused on my career and in my work, committed and prepared for all the challenges that I have to face. Everything else? Everything else is just talk.”
    CHANGE OF HEART
Cristiano Ronaldo posted this on Instagram just ten days ago.
But with a move to Manchester United reportedly on the cards, it appears the Portuguese superstar has had a change of heart.
He wrote: “Anyone who knows me is aware of how focused I am on my work.
“Less talk and more action, this has been my guiding motto since the start of my career.
“However, in view of everything that’s been said and written recently, I have to set out my position.
“More than the disrespect for me as a man and as a player, the frivolous way that my future is covered in the media is disrespectful to all the clubs involved in these rumours, as well as to their players and staff….
    BACK RON
Manchester United have offered Cristiano Ronaldo a contract after he held talks with former boss and ‘father figure’ Sir Alex Ferguson, according to reports.
The Red Devils’ hierarchy have made a late bid to hijack that move, which led to City ending their pursuit for the star forward, and thus an epic return to Old Trafford is very much on the cards.
According to Manchester Evening News, Ferguson reached out to the Portugal international on Friday when it seemed like he will be moving to the Etihad.
And it seems like the legendary coach convinced him to snub the Citizens and consider a long-awaited homecoming. United‘s board is now reportedly trying to bring the 36-year-old back and have even drawn up a contract.
Ronaldo and Ferguson go way back as the 79-year-old Scot was the one that signed the Portuguese superstar back in 2003 from Sporting Lisbon.
The pair went on to win a total of three Premier League titles, one FA Cup as well as the 2008 Champions League.

    BREAKING!
Manchester United have launched an official bid to sensationally re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo with a medical targeted in Lisbon.
The Old Trafford legend informed current club Juventus of his desire to leave after three years in Italy.
Initially, his agent held talks with City over a possible move but the Premier League champions ruled themselves out without making an offer.
Attention then soon shifted to United after their manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – Ronaldo’s former team-mate – opened the door for a transfer.
And according to Fabrizio Romano, Juve have received an offer from United, who are ready to find an agreement.
With Ronaldo hoping to resolve his future immediately, a medical is already planned for Lisbon, the Daily Mail report.
    RON DECISION
With Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly heading to Manchester United rather than City, it’s fair to say this Red Devils fans may be regretting this decision.
Although it does appear to be this season’s shirt suggesting he’s bought the top and got Ronaldo printed on it just to burn it.
Make of that what you will…

    MASSIVE SIGNING
With Manchester United seemingly leading the race to sign Cristiano Ronaldo, this Red Devils account is pretty excited by the prospect…
Man City are said to have pulled out leaving the path clear for Ronnie to return to his old club.
Ronaldo to Man United will…— bring us trophies— possibly get Pogba to sign a new deal— inspire Rashford, Greenwood, Sancho, etc— attract more big names— take us back to the pinnacle of English & European football— send a message to the worldMASSIVE signing. #MUFC— UtdFaithfuls (@UtdFaithfuls) August 27, 2021

    HISTORY MAKER
Last season, Harry Kane racked up one of the biggest points totals in Dream Team history. After finishing as the Premier League’s top scorer and top assist-provider, the Spurs forward boasted a tally of 357 points.
Only eight players have achieved a greater season total in Dream Team’s long history. And right at the top of the list is none other than Cristiano Ronaldo.
In 2007/08, the Portuguese superstar amassed a frankly obscene 477 points – nobody else has breached the 400-point mark.
You may remember that season as the time Ronaldo first ascended to best-in-the-world status as he plundered 31 goals in 34 league games, breaking the record for most goals in a 38-game Premier League campaign at the time – a record that has since been taken by Mohamed Salah.
Mastering the role of the blistering inside forward from the right flank, the legendary No7 also scored three goals in the FA Cup and eight in a successful Champions League campaign for Man United, including a famous header in the final against Chelsea.
Ronaldo finished the season with 42 goals from 49 appearances, eight assists, and more Star Man awards than you could shake a Ballon d’Or at.

    GUNNAR APOLOGISE?
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Rio Ferdinand was ‘out of order’ for his criticism of Phil Jones.
Ferdinand said that Jones should leave the club as he has had too many injuries and is taking up a place in the squad that one of the youth team players could have.
Solskjaer said: “I think what Rio said was out of order, completely. I know more than anyone how it feels to be injured.
“Phil has had a horrible 18, 19, 20 months and was troubled for a year before that with injuries.
“Phil’s still not 30, but since I came here he has battled against that knee injury and put his body on the line in every training session.
“He has never done anything but give everything for the club and Rio, he should no better than to go out and say this.”

    BREAKING
Cristiano Ronaldo has told his agent Jorge Mendes that he wants to return to Manchester United.
The report comes from Fabrizio Romano, who adds that United are preparing a two-year deal for the forward, which will be sent in the “next few hours”.
Incredibly, he also claims Manchester City have never made CR7 an offer.

    PEP IS COY
Pep Guardiola did not give a direct answer on whether or not he wants to sign Cristiano Ronaldo but he did not move out a rule wither.
CR7 looks destined to return to Manchester, with both City and United set to fight for his signature.
Asked about the possible signing, Guardiola said: “Ronaldo? Another striker?
“I cannot say much so Harry Kane announces continuing at his club so exceptional club like Tottenham and Cristiano was a Juventus player, I think he is a Juventus player and I cannot add anything else.
“Only I can say I think there is three or four days left anything can happen but in my personal view there are few players, CR is included and Messi, they decide where they are going to play.
“They lead in the negotiations and right now that is my feeling I am more delighted with the squad I have and we will say the same.”
    CRISSSSSSSTIANO
Manchester United fans have turned on Cristiano Ronaldo after reports linking him with rivals Man City emerged.
The Red Devils icon, 36, is thought to be in talks with City over a controversial move to the Etihad this summer.
United fans have taken to social media to let Ronaldo know their feelings about the proposed deal.
One supporter tweeted: “Please no, he’s a United great. How did our owners let this happen? Oh yeah, they only want top four and let City get better than us.”
While another fan wrote: “I’m burning my Ronaldo shirt if he goes to City.”
They will be relieved to hear their club is keen to bring CR7 back to Old Trafford then.

    RON HIS WAY BACK?
Manchester United have been in direct contact with Jorge Mendes since yesterday night for Cristiano Ronaldo comeback, according to Fabrizio Romano.
United are now said to be “seriously interested” in the forward along with rivals City.
And the United hierarchy are now seeking to do a deal with Juventus, with a transfer fee to be agreed.
Personal terms will also need to be confirmed before a potential glorious return to Old Trafford.

    BREAKING
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has opened the door for a Cristiano Ronaldo return to Manchester United.
The Norwegian sang the forward’s praises before hinting at a possible move.
He also revealed that Ronaldo’s international team-mate, Bruno Fernandes, has been in touch with the Juventus star.
Solskjaer said: “I didn’t think Cristiano was going to leave Juventus. But if ever he is going to move away from Juventus he knows we are here.
“We’ve always had a good communication, Bruno has been talking to him as well. He knows how we feel about him.
“He is a legend of this club, the greatest players of all time if you ask me. So let’s see what happens with him.”

    DIO-GO?
Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot is said to be keen on a move to Borussia Dortmund.
And he has reportedly discussed the potential transfer with Red Devils team-mate Jadon Sancho and compatriot Raphael Guerreiro, according to German broadcaster Sport1.
Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund have been credited with an interest in the full-back and have opened talks with the Red Devils over a deal.
AC Milan are also believed to be interested in the Portuguese defender.
    GAAL-LING OMISSION
Holland manager Louis van Gaal told Donny van de Beek he needs to start playing regular club football before he can think about a return to the international fold during a 45-minute phone call with Manchester United’s forgotten man.
Van Gaal, back at the helm of the Dutch national team, left Van de Beek out of his squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Norway, Montenegro and Turkey.
Van Gaal, a former United manager, refused to open up on too many of the finer details of his talk with Van de Beek but was clear that he wants to see the 24-year-old getting more minutes under his belt.
Van Gaal said in his press conference: “I called Donny van de Beek yesterday, I told him that he needs to start playing games.
“I did not speak with any manager of my players. Maybe it’s logical to talk with them, but I haven’t done it.
“I spoke (with Van de Beek) last night for 45 minutes, but I am not going to tell you anything. This is between Donny and me. I am capable of advising players.”

    RONAL-GO
Cristiano Ronaldo is on the brink of a sensational return to Manchester United.

    ED-DING OUT?
Rubin Kazan have made an €18m offer for Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard, according to Sky Sports.
The Russians are proposing to pay the fee in three installments of €10m, €4m and €4m over 12 months.
Bordeaux are also willing to pay €18m for the player.

“Troy Deeney and senior Watford FC officials are currently discussing the best options for both parties for the season ahead.

    ‘LET’S SEE WHAT HAPPENS’
Jurgen Klopp has had his say on the prospect of Cristiano Ronaldo returning to the Premier League.
And while he is excited to see CR7 in action, he is certain Manchester City are viewing the forward as a short-term option, given his age.
He said: “Cristiano Ronaldo to Man City? I watch that like a football supporter actually. Let’s see what happens.
“If other clubs can do things for this, it’s not a business for the future – it is for now and immediately – some clubs work like that.”
