Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk LIVE REACTION: Rematch LATEST, AJ eye socket injury updates, champ Usyk flies home

ANTHONY JOSHUA is picking up the pieces after defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in their heavyweight title showdown. Usyk boxed beautifully at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, winning 117-112, 116-112, 115-113 on the judges scorecards to take AJ’s WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight titles.
The Ukrainian sensation finished the fight putting AJ under enormous pressure and had the Briton rocked on the final bell.
AJ suffered a suspected damaged eye socket in the brutal defeat, though he was not taken to hospital.
And now the Olympic gold medallists will look forward to a massive money-spinning rematch.

    FURY’S TOO FIERCE
Frank Warren reckons Anthony Joshua would ‘not survive’ in a fight with Tyson Fury.
The 69-year-old promoter admitted to being impressed by the pugilistic skills of Oleksandr Usyk.
Warren told talkSPORT: “I said to Tyson, ‘Can you imagine if you were in there with him, how long that would’ve lasted?’
“Tyson’s got as fast hands as Usyk’s got, as good a boxing brain as Usyk’s got and as good footwork as Usyk’s got.
“But he’s a bigger puncher and he’s got a better chin.”
    FIGHT SITE
Eddie Hearn hopes Anthony Joshua’s rematch with Oleksandr Usyk will be held on British soil.
The boxing promoter is eyeing the possibility of a February or March date for a clash between the rivals.
Hearn told iFL TV: “There will be approaches to do it elsewhere.
“(But) after Saturday, the pluses and minuses of Saturday, I mean, have you ever seen anything like that? How good was it? Have you ever seen anything like that?
“So I’d like to do it in England again. Maybe at Spurs, maybe at Wembley, maybe at the Emirates.
“They’ll be approaches to do it elsewhere but I don’t see any reason to take it outside of England.”
    SAVED BY THE BELL?
Eddie Hearn has brushed off suggestions that the duel between Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk was ended early.
Joshua lost his heavyweight belts following a boxing masterclass by Usyk with Ukrainian dominating in the final round.
And Hearn dismissed talk that the bell was rung early.
Hearn told iFLTV: “I don’t believe it did, I saw that it did on the DAZN clock but I remember specifically the ten seconds came and it was ten seconds.
“Because I remember hearing when there was ten seconds to go, it wasn’t three seconds after the clock went so I don’t believe that was an early bell.
“One for the BBBofC not for me, but it wasn’t like ‘he is in trouble here let’s ring the bell’, again it is one for the board but what I do know is he got hit by a couple of shots but it wasn’t early.”
    THE JUDGED FUDGED
Michael Bisping reckons “should never judge again” if he is not able to explain his scoring for Anthony Joshua’s and Oleksandr Usyk’s fight.
The ex-UFC middleweight champ disagreed with Foster’s scoring of six rounds during the fight.
Foster gave the Ukrainian the win with a score of 115-113, but the judge actually had Joshua up by two after six rounds.
Bisping tweeted: “He should be held accountable for this. Explain why he scored it that way to his peers.
“No understandable reason then he should never judge again.”
    TYSON TICKED OFF
Mike Tyson was reportedly unimpressed with the quality of the fight between Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Osyk.
And the legendary ex-heavyweight questioned whether either boxer would have been able to stop him in his prime.
Tyson said on Twitter: “After watching the Joshua vs Usyk fight, maybe they had a bad day that night.
“From that performance do you really think they could have beat me in my prime?”
    WARREN SWIPE
Frank Warren has taken a dig at Anthony Joshua describing him as ‘damaged goods’ following his loss to Oleksandr Osyk on Saturday night.
Joshua lost his IBF, WBO, and WBA world heavyweight titles to his Ukrainian opponent.
Warren told the Daily Mail: “He shouldn’t go anywhere near Usyk – he will never beat him.
“In terms of fighting Tyson Fury, it can happen. Joshua losing has taken away the belts and he is damaged goods now.
“But people would still buy into that fight. It can happen and it can happen in the UK.”
    REMATCH RUMOUR
World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman has questioned whether Anthony Joshua would be up for a rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.
And the Council chief reckons the British heavyweight seemed demoralised by his defeat.
Sulaiman told World Boxing News: “Few gave the Ukrainian a chance to win, as he has been moving up from cruiserweight, and Joshua was considered a great champion.
“There is a contract for a rematch, but I saw a Joshua very demoralized at the end.
“It will be a matter of time to know if he will seek revenge – or not.”
    JOSHUA WILL GET CRACKEN
Anthony Joshua’s trainer Rob McCracken expects the Brit will get his revenge on Oleksandr Osyk after the Ukrainian outboxed him in the ring.
It is thought a rematch could happen within the first quarter of 2022.
McCracken said: “Usyk is a good boxer and Anthony is still learning on the job and if he applies himself he will get the right result in the rematch.”
“There is no drawing board to go back to, you’ve got to apply pressure with your jab and your right hand and you’ve got to keep him off balance.
“And you’ve got to put shots together when you get there.”
    BOX CLEVER
Eddie Hearn reckons Anthony Joshua is likely to get a rematch against Oleksandr Osyk in February or March 2022.
And the high-profile promoter says will be ’20 times better’ in the follow-up clash although he reckons the Brit did underperform at Tottenham Stadium.
Hearn told iFL TV: “It’s frustrating because he can box 20 times better than that, and he will.
“Now the operation is revenge. That’s all that matters; that’s all he’s thinking about.
“That operation is underway. He’ll be written off [by fans]. Give him the respect for taking on Usyk. He might be pound-for-pound #1, Usyk.
“He’s certainly pound-for-pound #2. He’s got to use that to drive him, and he wants it more than ever.”
    SHOW MORE AGGRO
Lennox Lewis reckons Anthony Joshua will need to be more aggressive in the ring should he get the chance to avenge his loss to Oleksandr Osyk.
And the three-time heavyweight champ reckons the Ukrainian ace put on a great tactical display against Joshua.
Lewis tweeted: “For [Joshua] it’s not the end of the road, but u can’t be so tentative or wait till the 8th round to turn it on. Learn from this and improve.
“[Usyk] showed his pedigree in the ring. Amateur Champion. Olympic Gold medalist. Undisputed Cruiserweight Champion and now World Heavyweight champion.
“It pays to take the long road, put in the hard work and aggressively go after your goals.”
    BOUNCE BACK
Chris Eubank Jr is backing Anthony Joshua to come back even stronger from his shock loss to Oleksandr Osyk at Tottenham Stadium.
Boxing Scene says the Brit heavyweight is planning to utilise a clause for an immediate rematch with the first quarter of 2022 earmarked as a possible timeframe.
Eubank Jr told Sky Sports: “He is a career professional. He has been in the game long enough to know what to do, with or without his trainer.
That’s not an excuse he will use. It just wasn’t his night. You can’t win them all.
“The only fighter I can think of who won them all was Floyd Mayweather.
“You take your losses and come back stronger. That’s exactly what he is going to do.”
    JOSH GET PHYSICAL
David Haye reckons Anthony Joshua could win a rematch with Oleksandr Usyk if he makes more use of his physical power.
Joshua was outboxed by the Ukrainian in a gripping 12-round bout with Usyk winning the IBF, WBO, and WBA world titles.
Haye told IFL TV: “Just rewatch the (Usyk) fight with Dereck Chisora. Chisora brought a game plan to the table.
“He doesn’t have the physical attributes of Anthony Joshua but was able to win significantly more of the rounds in a very, very close fight.
“So if Anthony Joshua uses his physical attributes in the fight – it’s no good looking at them in the mirror, they’ve got to be implemented in the fight.
“If they can be forced on Usyk, he can reclaim the titles. But if he tries to have a boxing match, or does anything remotely close to what he was doing on Saturday night, it will be the same again.”
    JOSH K.O
Anthony Joshua’s only chance of beating Oleksandr Usyk in their rematch is if he knocks him out, Frank Warren claims.
Joshua was given a boxing masterclass by Usyk and risks the same thing happening the next time they face each other.
The only way there will be a different outcome is if Joshua can put the Ukrainian on his bum.
When asked about Joshua’s chances, Warren said: “No, not unless he can land a bomb on him.
“He can’t outbox him. It’s impossible for him to outbox him. So what is he going to have to do? He’s [Joshua] going to have to stop him.”
    OUT OF THIS WORLD
Oleksandr Usyk has offered Elon Musk the space-inspired ring walk helmet he wore before beating Anthony Joshua as a gift.
Usyk made his entrance wearing a custom-made jacket and space helmet and then delivered a performance that was from another planet.
After blowing AJ away with a 12 round clinic, the Ukrainian called on billionaire Musk, 50 – whose firm SpaceX launched the first all-civilian space flight earlier this month – to collect the boxing attire.
Usyk tweeted: “I’ve got a very special gift for a person who inspires me a lot!
“@elonmusk , your customized JAXET is waiting for you – a gear equipped with the latest technologies and an exclusive art piece from the new reality.
“Let’s express our respect to the superhero of the new world together and invite Elon to pick up his gift by sharing hashtag #ELONgetyourJAXETfromUSYK @elonmusk.”

    ‘NOT TYSON’
Critics reckon Anthony Joshua had the wrong mentality going into his loss against Oleksandr Usyk.
The Brit lost his heavyweight titles to the Ukrainian and some believe it’s because Joshua underestimated his opponent.
Boxing journalist Gareth Davies claims Joshua was too relaxed coming into the fight.
Joshua was showing love to fans and parents as he entered the ring, which something that you’d never see Mike Tyson or Lennox Lewis doing, Davies thinks.
He said: “He was fist-bumping people into the ring, kissing mothers, you never saw Mike Tyson or Lennox Lewis do that on their way.
“It was a heavyweight title defence.
“He wasn’t in the right frame of mind, he underestimated the guy in my view and a lot of us that know boxing said that if Oleksandr Usyk is still standing after the tenth round, he will have done something wrong in the fight.”

    FIGHT FURY
Tyson Fury watched in horror as he watched his mega-bucks fight against Anthony Joshua go down the pan.
Fury was glued to the screen during Anthony Joshua’s defeat at the hands of Oleksandr Usyk, putting their proposed £200million fight in doubt.
The only way Joshua can get his fight with Fury back on track is if he wins his rematch with Usyk.
Speaking on Fury’s reaction to Joshua’s loss, his promoter Frank Warren revealed: “I spoke to Tyson during the fight and we were both of the same opinion.
“All Tyson could see was a massive big fight going down the drain, which is what happened.”
    BELL RING
Boxing fans have claimed that Anthony Joshua could’ve been knocked out by Oleksandr Usyk if the last round wasn’t ended early.
Footage of the final round appears to show the bell ring five seconds early.
Which fans reckon was done to save Joshua from being sent to the canvas by the Ukrainian who went on to win on points.
In response to the alleged early bell ring, one fan wrote on Twitter: “They knew Joshua was getting tagged up.”
Another said: “Robbed Usyk of the KO. That was a stoppage.”
And even UFC commentator Joe Rogan questioned whether the bell was rung before it should’ve been.
He said: “Did they really ring the bell for the last round early?”
    RUIZ PRAISE
Andy Ruiz Jr has praised Oleksandr Usyk for his victory over Anthony Joshua on the weekend.
The Ukrainian became the second person to hand Joshua a defeat in his career so far.
The Brit’s first loss came at the hands of Ruiz Jr in 2019, although Joshua won the next time the pair were face to face.
Speaking after the match, Ruiz Jr said: “Congratulations to Oleksandr Usyk. He did his thing. Congratulations brother.”
    CHISORA SUPPORT
Derek Chisora was full of praise for Anthony Joshua following his loss to Oleksandr Usyk.
Despite losing on points, Chisora, who is signed to Joshua’s management company 258, reckons his fellow Brit put on a great display.
And next time the pair meet, Joshua will be better prepared as they can’t cry over spilt milk.
Chisora said: “Fight was great, what I will say and I thought AJ was moving his jab very amazingly and the points was unbelievable.
“The last round was a bit tricky for him, we don’t cry over spilt milk mate. We just have to knuckle down and regroup to go back again.”
    OUR SAB-IOUR
Oleksandr Usyk was given a hero’s welcome by fans when he arrived back in Ukraine after beating Anthony Joshua.
When the new heavyweight champion stepped off the plane in his home country, supporters were on hand to greet him with yellow and blue sticks which they’ve labelled ‘lightsabers.’
The blue stick holders stood on one side and the yellow ones on the other, creating a tunnel for Usyk to walk through.
And in a much more subtle token, he was also handed a bouquet of flowers by fans in the same colours.

    USYK MUST BE CRAZY
Oleksandr Usyk and Eddie Hearn are at odds about where Anthony Joshua’s rematch against the Ukrainian should take place.
Usyk, who beat Joshua in his own backyard on Saturday to become heavyweight champion wants their second duel to happen in his homeland.
However, Hearn is adamant that the rematch takes place in the UK as it makes more financial sense for the fighters.
Speaking to iFL TV, the Matchroom boss said: “We will work together to maximise (the income), Ukraine is very unlikely.
“I think it will be international or the UK, I would think it would be in the UK.”
    JOSH IT ALL WRONG
Anthony Joshua has implied that he used the wrong tactics in his loss to Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday.
Joshua admitted he should’ve gone into the fight against the Ukrainian with a different game plan after the brawl.
But upon reflection, the former heavyweight champion claims he will prepare differently for their rematch which will be phenomenal.
Speaking to iFL TV, the Brit said: “I let a few people down, obviously people that support me.
“There’s other people that probably thought I should have gone in with a different gameplan.
“There’s certain things I know I can improve on for sure and there’s certain things that he can probably improve on, that’s why I feel like the next fight will be phenomenal.”
    OVER AND OUT
Tyson Fury’s promoter Frank Warren has no doubt who would’ve won if it was his fighter stepping into the ring against Anthony Joshua last night and Oleksandr Usyk.
In fact, Warren believes the fight wouldn’t have lasted more than four rounds.
“Tyson Fury would have destroyed him inside three or four rounds,” Warren told the MailOnline.
“Tyson has great footwork, a great chin and his hands are as fast as Usyk’s and he is bigger – he would have destroyed Joshua.”
    HERE EU GO
Chris Eubank Jr is in line for a domestic blockbuster in December with Billy Joe Saunders and Liam Willaims among the targets, JACK FIGG reports.
But a super-fight with Gennady Golovkin, 39, is parked until the summer, with the Kazakh due to fight Japan’s Ryota Murata, 35, in a unification.
Middleweight Eubank Jr returns to the ring on Saturday and will do so as the new face of Sky Sports Boxing in a tune-up bout against Sven Elbir.
And promoter Kalle Sauerland promised a massive pay-per-view worthy fight will follow before the year’s out, should any slip ups be avoided.
Sauerland told SunSport: “Golovkin I can categorically rule out, Golovkin right now is obligated to fight Murata.
“That is an ongoing one, something we said we would re-visit when he’s had that fight. That’s going to be a big summer one for next year.
“We’re looking at domestic fights, Liam Williams is on that list, Billy Joe is on that list.”

    ‘HAVE A F****** GO’
Whyte went on to say on AJ: “It’s good he is using more athleticism and boxing responsibly but being a big strong guy is what has worked for him, got him an Olympic gold medal and world titles so he just needs to have a f****** go.
“He was not hungry enough because when the chips are down and sh!t is against you, you have to have a go. And he did not want to have a go.
“He never tried to finish him off when he hurt him, it was madness.”

    ‘F****** WEIRDO’
Dillian Whyte has labelled Anthony Joshua a ‘f****** weirdo’ for not being more aggressive during his unanimous defeat to Oleksandr Usyk.
The Body snatcher told iFL TV: “I was surprised with how the fight went because I thought Joshua would get it done inside seven rounds because he would enforce his size and bulk on Usyk but he was very reserved and tentative, it was weird.
“Usyk was a lot more aggressive because Joshua allowed him to be, whenever Joshua stung him he stood in front of him and let his hands go and Joshua let him do it.
“Joshua was hurting him but backing up so it has baffled me a bit, it was a bizarre performance. Joshua is a strange guy, he’s a proper f****** weirdo, he should have been putting the heat on him.
“After eight rounds he should have felt like he was down on the cards and started really having a go, he’s the unified heavyweight champion of the world.
“He needs to throw his hands. Joshua’s mentality has to change, lately he is in a safety-first mode, he is fighting weird.”
    ‘SEE YOU SOON’
After defeating Anthony Joshua via unanimous decision on Saturday night, the Ukrainian returned AJ his belts after a dominant victory.
And after posing for photographs with his new WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight titles, Usyk returned them to AJ.
The new champion is awarded fresh set of belts, meaning former champ AJ is able to keep his old ones.
Then after handing Joshua his belts back, Usyk said: “See you soon,” with the pair set to do battle again in a rematch next year.

    CHAMPIONSHIP ROUNDS
Anthony Joshua lost all of the final four rounds of the fight on all three judges’ scorecards last night.
But until then the scores were level on two scorecards at four rounds apiece, with Brit judge Howard Foster scoring the fight five rounds to three in favour of AJ.
And Hearn has said: “I was just looking at the scorecards then, he was winning the fight through eight rounds.
“Then he lost every round; nine, ten, eleven, twelve – on every scorecard. That was what swung the scorecards, but they are the championship rounds.
“That’s where Usyk came strong, that’s what he did where he did wear down his opponent – probably mentally as well.
“He won those key championship rounds.”

    HERO’S WELCOME
Oleksandr Usyk was given a hero’s welcome as he arrived back home in Ukraine – where he will now settle down with his family.
Usyk, 34, was mobbed by fans and reporters as he stopped to give autographs as well as pose for pictures.
Despite the fanfare, the only thing on Usyk’s mind was getting home to his wife Yekaterina and three children, Kyrylo, Mykhailo and Yelizaveta.
He said: “I just want to live. I want to take my kids to school, I want to plant trees, water the apple trees and see my wife more often.
“I spent three months in training camp, I wish I could spend more time with my wife. I just want to live — I really don’t care what the critics say. There will always be people criticising. I know what I am doing.
“If I am running I don’t stop until I stop. If I’m swimming I’m not stopping until I nearly drown. I am working very hard so I really don’t care what people say or think about me.”

    NOT THE TOUGHEST
Anthony Joshua insists Oleksandr Usyk wasn’t the toughest opponent of his career – despite having his heavyweight titles ripped away from him.
AJ was outboxed from the outset but is adamant slick southpaw Usyk wasn’t the hardest test of his amateur and professional careers.
When asked if he thought Ukrainian was the hardest fight of his career, Joshua replied: “No, no way.
“Because it wasn’t too much physical. But I lost anyway. So it wasn’t the toughest.”
    STAT ATTACK
Punch stats from last night’s bout show Usyk was in control throughout the 12 rounds despite British judge Howard Foster scoring AJ ahead after eight rounds.
But it was Usyk who landed more punches, bigger punches, and it was the Ukrainian who was more efficient with his shots.
He could have floored AJ in the 12th with a barrage of shots, landing a total of 29 punches in the final round – the most the Brit has ever faced in a single round.
Despite the reach disadvantage, Usyk was more effective with his jab, landing 52 out of the 309 he threw – or 17 per cent.
Joshua landed the same number but had over a hundred more attempts than his opponent with 427.
But AJ threw less power punches – 214 compared to Usyk’s 220 – and landed just 71 to the Ukrainian’s 96.
    ELSEWHERE IN BOXING
Anderson Silva wants to fight Floyd Mayweather and ‘break all pay-per-view records’, his coach said.
The Brazilian was last year released from the UFC and decided to instead continue his career in the ring, beating ex-boxing champion Julio Cesar Chavez and fellow MMA legend Tito Ortiz.
But now the UFC middleweight icon wants to jump to the top of the sport and challenge one of boxing’s best ever, 50-0 Mayweather.
Silva’s trainer Luiz Dorea told AG Fight: “I think the one fight that should happen was between Floyd Mayweather and Anderson Silva.
“One of the greatest boxing athletes against one of the greatest MMA in the world.
“Floyd faced Logan Paul, who doesn’t have that much experience in boxing, in an exhibition match. I think I could have a deal.
“These fights against YouTubers can happen too, because Anderson wants something that motivates him. We will have good news soon.”

    BISPING SPEAKS
UFC legend Michael Bisping has had his say after Anthony Joshua’s defeat to Oleksandr Usyk.
In a unanimous decision in favour of Usyk Brit judge Howard Foster scored the fight 115-113 – the closest out of the three scorecards.
And unlike the other two judges he scored the first two rounds in favour of AJ, which Bisping did not take well.
“He should be held accountable for this,” he retorted.
“Explain why he scored it that way to his peers. [If there is] no understandable reason then he should never judge again.”
    FURY REACTION
Tyson Fury’s promoter Frank Warren has revealed how The Gypsy King reacted to Anthony Joshua’s defeat to Oleksadr Usyk on Saturday night.
“He [Joshua] just wasn’t doing what you’d think a bigger guy would do,” Warren said on talkSPORT Fight Night.
“I spoke to Tyson during the fight and we were both of the same opinion.
“All Tyson could see was a massive big fight going down the drain, which is what happened.”
    ‘FIRED UP’
Chris Eubank Jr is determined to come out on top of his middleweight bout against Sven Elbir on Saturday after seeing his ‘good friend’ Anthony Joshua lose.
He told Sky Sports: “I’m fired up.
“Obviously Anthony Joshua is a friend of mine. I’m a little deflated that he lost, but it’s part of the game. We’ve all been there.
“If anything, this makes me want to fight even harder. I know the feelings he’s going through now.
“The first thing you want to do is get back in the ring and win. We’re going to put on a hell of a show.”
    PICKING KIEV
Oleksandr Usyk wants his lucrative rematch with Anthony Joshua to take place in front of a packed crowd at Ukraine’s 70,000 seater Olympic Stadium.
Joshua, 31, is set to exercise the rematch clause placed in his contract to face the Ukrainian, who is hoping to make his first title defence on home soil.
The 34-year-old said: “I would love to have the rematch at Olympiyskiy Stadium in Kiev.”
Promoter Eddie Hearn, however, believes the second instalment of Usyk vs Joshua will likely take place in UK again.
The Matchroom Boxing chief said: “We will work together to maximise (the income), Ukraine is very unlikely.
“I think it will be international or the UK, I would think it would be in the UK.”
    Credit: GETTY
    NOT HIS TOUGHEST FIGHT
Oleksandr Usyk reckons his 12-round heavyweight world title win over Anthony Joshua was not even his hardest fight.
The eccentric said: “The plan was just to walk in, see, start, so we went in, saw and started.
“In the 12th my corner said ‘speed up’ so I did and then they said ‘and the new’.
“I tried to speed up and punched him a couple of times but I was losing my rhythm and my corner told me to slow down and throw my jab more because if I did not keep throwing my jab I would lose my rhythm.
“This is the biggest fight in my career but it was not my hardest. I think that is in my future.”

    KOP STROP
Liverpool transfer target Otavio isn’t sure if the Reds still want to sign him, the FC Porto star revealed.
The Kop giants were linked with a move for the attacking midfielder this summer but it never materialised.
Otavio is likely to feature for Porto when they face Jurgen Klopp’s side in the Champions League this week.
But if he ever does make the switch to Anfield, Otavio is aware that he’ll have to put in some impressive performances in Europe and domestically.
He said: “Whether they were interested or not, I don’t know.
“But if there is any team interested in me, it would be for my work in both the league and the Champions League.”

    ON THE SPOT
Thierry Henry has suggested that Spotify owner Daniel Ek is still pursuing an Arsenal takeover.
Ek’s proposal to buy the Gunners hit a brick wall earlier this year, but he, with Henry’s support, is still interested in buying the club.
Henry revealed that Ek will keep knocking until Arsenal answer his calls.
The Frenchman told Sky Sports: “To be able to get there, you need to have someone to respond on either side, it didn’t happen yet.
“We, he, is here to stay. Let’s see what’s going to happen.
“I think it’s going to be long. I think you remember me saying it’s going to be long. How long it’s going to be, I don’t actually know but we are here to stay.”
    KESS IT DONE
Liverpool and Manchester United target Franck Kessie is reportedly considering a move away from AC Milan.
The midfielder’s Milan contract ends in June, meaning he can start negotiations with other teams in January.
The 24-year-old has rejected Milan’s latest contract offer which will be music to Liverpool and United’s ears.
But the Prem sides will face competition from European rivals Paris Saint-Germain who are also said to be tracking the star.
    LION IN WAIT
Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino has revealed Lionel Messi WILL be in the club’s squad to face Manchester City.
The 34-year-old has missed the last two clashes against Metz and Montpellier after suffering a bone contusion on his right knee.
But former Tottenham gaffer Pochettino has insisted he is recovering well ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League clash – though being named in the starting XI may come too soon for him.
Speaking in Monday’s pre-match press conference, he said: “We will wait until tomorrow to confirm who will participate.
“Can I confirm Messi will be there on Tuesday?
“I never confirm the team the day before. It’s something we will see tomorrow.
“Leo is a bit like Marco Verratti. He’s progressing very well. I think he will be in the squad.
“But I still have not decided the starting XI.”
    PALM READ
Ex-Leeds United star Carlton Palmer reckons Manchester City have already wrapped up the signing of Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.
The 21-year-old will be available for £64million next summer but Palmer thinks City will pay over the odds for the striker to expedite his switch to the Etihad stadium.
The former Stockport City boss wouldn’t be surprised if Pep Guardiola’s team fork out £140m for the Norwegian.
Speaking to This Is Futbol: “I think they’ll have probably already wrapped that deal up myself for the January transfer window.
“I’d be surprised if the Haaland deal’s not done. Knowing that he’s going to be available at the end of the season, they might even give 100 million for Haaland so Dortmund get an extra £40m to let him out at Christmas.”

    KLOPP WARNING
Jurgen Klopp has warned his Liverpool stars that complacency will cost them in their Champions League tie against FC Porto this week.
The Reds started the group stage with a win over AC Milan, but Klopp has told his squad that doesn’t guarantee them a win over a resilient Porto side.
Klopp pointed to the fact that Porto always qualify for the European competition along with their dominance on the domestic league as proof of just how strong they are.
He said: “Porto qualify for the Champions League every year, and they are always first or second in the Portuguese League.
“That is a top team and that is what we are preparing for.
“For them it is another reason to be motivated on the highest level.
“Yes we were good, we are good that is clear, and I’m still happy we won the games – but we can’t think we have won this game already. It will be tricky.”
    HOW RUD
Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has dismissed claims that the German side are interested in Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger.
Salihamidzic even suggested that it was rude to link a player who has a club to another team.
Speculation surrounding Bayern’s potential move for Rudiger was rife after their boss Julian Nagelsmann praised the defender’s abilities recently.
But Salihamidzic said it’s normal for a manager to praise another player’s strengths in football, and Rudiger isn’t the only one Nagelsmann singled out for praise.
He said to DAZN: “It’s not okay when we talk about players who are with other clubs.
“Julian said that about him in the press conference, but he’s a coach who sees a lot of players – so why shouldn’t he rate an international and speak about his strengths?”
    MATA OF TIME
Juan Mata is reportedly weighing up his future at Manchester United due to a lack of playing time this season.
The 33-year-old’s contract runs out at the end of the season but reports claim he’s willing to leave before then.
The Spaniard is yet to start this season and was left out of the United squad that lost 1-0 to Aston Villa on the weekend.
Despite Mata’s lack of games, he was rewarded with a contract extension in July by United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who may try and hold onto the midfielder.
    KLOPP DEFENCE
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp claims that he isn’t worried about his club’s defence despite them letting in three goals against Brentford on the weekend.
The Reds also let in two goals in their 3-2 win over AC Milan in the Champions League last week, but Klopp doesn’t reckon his back four are a cause for concern.
He said: “It’s not that much of a concern because I don’t think you should make these things bigger than they are – but we have to show a reaction, that’s for sure.
“It’s really tricky to win a football game when you are not defending on your highest level and that’s what we didn’t do.
“The common opinion is it’s only about the last line but we had a problem in general with our defending.
“That’s why Brentford caused us problems and it wasn’t good.
“We have to improve in that department for sure but now is not the moment to be concerned.”
    CLOSE RANGE
Rangers have confirmed that fans will have to be double jabbed and show proof of vaccination to be allowed inside the Ibrox stadium.
The Gers released a lengthy statement detailing a change in rules ahead of the upcoming Scottish Premiership clash with Hibs.
The statement read: “Ahead of Sunday’s Scottish Premiership match against Hibernian.
“Rangers would like to update supporters on the introduction of vaccine certificate checks across Scotland.
“From October 1, following legislation introduced by the Scottish Government, everyone attending matches at Ibrox Stadium must be fully vaccinated and everyone must bring proof of this status with you to the match, unless exempt.”
“According to Scottish Government guidelines, fully vaccinated means ‘vaccinated with a MHA recognised vaccine in line with the MHA recommended number of doses for the vaccine used, and two weeks have passed for the vaccine to take effect.
“Supporters are encouraged to arrive with a hard copy of their vaccine certificate, however digital copies will also be accepted. Visitors from all parts of the UK will be able to use their existing vaccine certificates.”
Exemptions are in place for those under 18, people who are not able to receive the vaccine for medical reason, those who are participants in vaccine trial, and workers or volunteers at the venue or event.

    WESN’T TRUE
Sir Alex Ferguson has poured cold water on reports that Manchester United want to sign Wesley Sneijder when he was in charge.
Despite being heavily linked with the Dutchman, Fergie claimed United were never even interested in the midfielder.
When asked about Sneijder on the UTD podcast, the Scotsman said: “Well, you mention the boy Sneijder.
“That’s come up a lot of times but we were never interested in Sneijder. I don’t know where that came from but you get a lot of them.
“Every Sunday, in The People, when I first came, they were throwing names in all the time.”
    OFF GUARD
Pep Guardiola claims he doesn’t know how to stop Paris-Saint Germain when his Manchester City side face them in the Champions League this week.
Guardiola claims PSG’s squad boast so much talent that it will be difficult to put together a game plan to beat the French side.
But although the Ligue 1 giants are already giving the Spaniard a headache, he still wants their superstar Lionel Messi to start the game for football’s benefit.
Guardiola said: “With this amount of quality I don’t know how to stop them.
“They’re so good. This amount of talent makes it so difficult.”
Speaking on Messi, Guardiola added: “Messi speaks for himself, I don’t have to describe him.
“What he’s done is more than exceptional and hopefully tomorrow he can play for the benefit of the game.”
    FERNAN-MESS
Gary Neville had some harsh words for Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes after he issued a statement for his penalty miss against Aston Villa.
Fernandes’ miss cost United getting a draw in the Villa game and the midfielder penned an apology to the Old Trafford faithful claiming he’ll do better in future.
But Neville wasn’t amused with the Portuguese playmaker’s statement which he felt lacked authenticity.
The pundit thinks that Fernandes, along with other Premier League stars need to put some heart into their messages to fans or don’t say anything at all, especially not through their PR teams.
When asked by a fan his thoughts on what Fernandes said on Twitter, Neville wrote: “It’s embarrassing!
“They [players] need to sack their PR people, speak with some authenticity and get on with it. I’m going to go big on this in the next few weeks.”
    TROPHY SAK
Bukayo Saka thinks Arsenal’s win over Tottenham yesterday can spur them on to win trophies.
The 20-year-old reckons if he and his Gunners teammates can continue in the same vein of form that saw them wallop Spurs 3-1, then a trophy haul is inevitable.
Speaking after the game, he said: “We can achieve anything, no matter what age. With age comes experience but we have a lot of experience in this squad anyway which helps us.
“We have a lot of quality and enough experience to achieve a lot. We’re going to take it game by game but if we play like this we have enough quality to win trophies.”
    ‘MIND OVER MATTER’
Adventurer Ben Fogle has revealed he has been working with Liverpool in their quest to regain their Premier League crown.
Sharing the story on Instagram, Fogle wrote: “One of the most fascinating jobs I have ever done was to work with Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool squad.
“I helped them with their mind control and mental agility under pressure through the context of my own expeditions and adventure.
“Already great footballers, the challenge was how to keep on top of their game when it is not one single mountain, but a whole mountain range that you have to climb each season.
“Consistency in the face of expectation and pressure.”
    MARC HIS WORDS
Liverpool are preparing to lodge a £34million for Marco Asensio.
According to El Nacional, Real Madrid are eager to free up funds to facilitate moves for Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.
And part of that involves moving Asensio on, despite the attacker scoring three La Liga goals already this season.
The Spanish international was linked with a move to Arsenal in the summer, but instead Mikel Arteta’s side opted to sign Asensio’s Real Madrid teammate Martin Odegaard.
But now the Spaniard could also be on his way to the Premier League, with Liverpool eyeing a possible swoop.

    DONN’T BE SILLY
Gianluigi Donnarumma has confirmed he is ‘happy’ to be at PSG.
The Italian goalkeeper only joined the club in the summer, but after failing to dislodge Keylor Navas as first choice between the sticks rumours had began to swirl that the 22-year-old was keen on a move.
However according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano the rumours are false.
He tweeted: “Donnarumma is understood to be ‘happy’ in Paris despite rumours.
“He expected to have competition with Navas and he’s respecting Keylor – but he knows that PSG is banking on him for the future.
“‘Donnarumma will be PSG starter GK, no doubt’ – Raiola said one week ago.”

    MOST VALUABLE SQUADS
Here’s a look at the most valuable squads in the Premier League, according to transfermarkt.
And the top four teams on the list currently occupy the top four spots in the Premier League, albeit in a different order.
Liverpool are top of the table as it stands, ahead of Manchester City and Manchester United.
But Brighton, who’s squad value is more than four times less than Manchester City, have the chance to go TOP of the Premier League tonight.
A win for Graham Potter’s side against bitter rivals Crystal Palace will see the Seagulls top the table after six games.

    WAT A MOVE
Tottenham are reportedly eyeing a deal for Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins.
According to Fichajes, the former Exeter and Brentford man is a target for Spurs as they look to bolster their attacking options, with Harry Kane enduring a difficult start to the season.
The 25-year-old has been referred to as a ‘top target,’ regardless of whether Harry Kane leaves the North London club.
Watkins has impressed since his club record £28million move to the West Midlands a year ago, scoring 14 Premier League goals for the Villains last season.

    PS-GLUM
The standout fixture in this weekend’s Champions League clashes is unquestionably the tie between Manchester City and PSG.
It’s the sixth time the two sides have met, with the French side still looking for their first win in this fixture (D2 L3).
Only against Juventus (8) have Les Parisiens played more games in European competition without winning.
They have also have failed to keep a clean sheet in all four of their meetings with Manchester City in the Champions League.
Only against AC Milan have they played as many games without managing a clean sheet in the European Cup/Champions League (also four).
    WRIGHT TALK
Former Arsenal man Ian Wright has given Martin Odegaard a glowing review after the Norwegian summer signing put in another impressive performance in Sunday’s North London derby.
He said: “It’s a not a case of how exciting he can be, it’s more a case of what we know he can do.
“He picks up brilliant positions and he just controls the tempo of the game, constantly getting himself in the box.”
Wright went on to say: “He’s very calm, he’s very composed. It’s the quality now it’s more than just hoping to play the ball to Kieran Tierney.
“We can keep the ball in areas where we can actually hurt teams. He’s the kind of midfielder that is going to be invaluable to us.”
    KANE UNABLE
Harry Kane shocking stats against Arsenal reveal just how much the Tottenham striker is struggling after his failed Manchester City transfer.
The striker, 28, mustered just five shots, only one of which hit the target and missed one ‘big chance’, according to Opta – when he poked wide just after the hour mark.
As well as failing to score, Kane did not create a single chance, register any dribbles or grab an assist.
He managed just 25 touches across the 90 minutes, completed five of his 11 passes – 46 per cent completion – and strayed offside twice.
The Tottenham No10 also lost possession a whopping 11 times and won 20 per cent of his ground duels and 33 per cent of those in the air.

    RIGHT OR RON
Cristiano Ronaldo is in line to take Manchester United’s next penalty following Bruno Fernandes’ howler against Aston Villa – despite having a WORSE record.
In league competition since the start of the 2017-18 season, Ronaldo has taken 31 penalties during spells at Real madrid, Juventus and now United.
Ronaldo has converted 26 of those, missing just five for a success rate of 83.9 per cent.
Interesting, he recently missed a penalty for Portugal during their 2-1 win over the Republic of Ireland, with Fernandes also on the pitch at the time.
During his days at Sporting Lisbon and Man Utd, Fernandes has scored 25 of his 27 penalty efforts – a conversion rate of 92.6 per cent.
However, both of Fernandes’ misses have come at United, including his weekend howler against Villa, making his Premier League record nine out of 11 (81.8 per cent).

    MAKING AMENDS
Piers Morgan made peace with Arsenal star Aaron Ramsdale on Sunday after the goalkeeper previously called him an ‘absolute w*’.
The TV presenter posted a hilarious tweet after the Gunners stopper shone during his side’s North London derby win over Tottenham at the Emirates.
Morgan, 56, uploaded a screen shot of Ramsdale’s 2014 tweet alongside a photo of them laughing together after Sunday’s win.
And he wrote: “How it started vs how it’s going…”
Ramsdale was 15 at the time of his abusive tweet and still with Sheffield United’s youth academy.
But Morgan managed to see the funny side after his beloved Arsenal beat their bitter rivals 3-1 with the help of the former Bournemouth man.

    39TH PAIN
Premier League bosses are once again discussing the potential for matches to be played abroad, according to reports.
The concept of a ’39th game’ was raised back in 2008, before being quickly shut down following fan discontent.
But the lucrative possibilities for playing league matches in front of full stadiums abroad remains and The Athletic have detailed discussions between club officials over reviving the idea.
Last week’s shareholder meeting in London, between representatives of all 20 clubs and the Prem, reportedly saw the concept mentioned.
There is said to be hope in some quarters that ‘meaningful’ matches can be played overseas in the long-term.
For now, that is set to commence with a bulked-out pre-season tournament in the United States next summer.

Oleksandr Usyk RETURNS belts to Anthony Joshua as Brit warns ‘see you soon’ in changing room after shock defeat

    ELSEWHERE IN BOXING
Logan Paul has claimed he would’ve knocked out Floyd Mayweather if their showdown was a 12-rounder.
The YouTuber turned boxer locked horns with the five-weight world champion in an exhibition match in Miami in June – going the full eight rounds with the Money Man.
But Paul, 26, believes he would’ve had handed Mayweather his first stoppage loss if they shared the ring for a few more rounds.
The elder Paul brother told the True Geordie, he said: “My conditioning is f***ing good, bro.
“If the fight went 10 or 12 rounds, I think I would knock him out. I say that in full conviction.”
    RIGHT RESULT
But AJ’s trainer Rob McCracken has insisted Joshua has got what it takes to overcome Oleksandr Usyk in the rematch.
“There is no drawing board to go back to, you’ve got to apply pressure with your jab and your right hand and you’ve got to keep him off balance,” McCracken said.
“And you’ve got to put shots together when you get there.
“Usyk is a good boxer and Anthony is still learning on the job and if he applies himself he will get the right result in the rematch.”
    TALL ORDER
British boxing great Carl Froch has revealed Anthony Joshua needs a serious change of tactics if he has any hope of winning his belts back in a rematch against Oleksandr Usyk.
He said: “What a fighter Usyk is, I have to say I don’t fancy AJ in the rematch, he has to seriously change his tactics and his game plan and get rough early.
“Apparently he has said he wants the rematch straight away but I think he needs to sleep on it and look over at what he did wrong and what he can improve on.”
“I didn’t think AJ would lose like that, I never saw it coming that way because the ending was a bit of a beating.
“I am sure Joshua can come again but it depends how much he wants it because he has achieved so much and done so well.
“I do think Anthony Joshua can win the rematch, he does have the physicality, but he needs different tactics and game plan, he needs to implement his size and stature a lot more and a lot earlier.”
    FINISH HIM
Oleksander Usyk revealed his reasons for not knocking out Anthony Joshua.
The Ukrainian landed some hefty punches, but didn’t want to upset his own rhythm, even when he had AJ on the back foot by going in for the kill.
In the end, Usyk won the fight by unanimous decision.
And that was a tactical move on his part.
“I had no objective to knock him out because my trainer, in my corner, pushed me not to do that,” Usyk revealed.
“In the beginning I hit him hard and tried to knock him out. But then my trainer said: ‘Just stop, and do your job’.”
    SOUND AS A POUND
Eddie Hearn believes Oleksandr Usyk is behind only Canelo Alvarez in boxing’s pound-for-pound list.
Hearn watched as Usyk outsmarted his boxer Anthony Joshua to become the new unified heavyweight champion.
The Ukrainian became only the third man, behind Evander Holyfield and David Haye, to win titles at cruiserweight and heavyweight.
Usyk, 34, previously reigned as undisputed before he moved up and added further to his credentials.
Asked where he ranks in the mythical list, Hearn said: “Two, after Canelo.
“I mean, when he was at cruiserweight, everyone called him a top five pound-for-pound.
“But then when he went to heavyweight, he went off everyone’s radar. After that win, he has to be on everyone’s top pound-for-pound.”
    BORN IN THE UKRAINE
Oleksandr Usyk’s moment of glory was celebrated by his fellow Ukrainian, Andrey Yarmolenko.
The West Ham striker paid a visit to the boxer’s dressing after the fight to congratulate him.
And the pair happily posed for the snap below to commemorate the night.

    ‘LEARN FROM THIS’
Lennox Lewis criticised Anthony Joshua for being ‘so tentative’ in his loss to Oleksandr Usyk but said: ‘Learn from this and improve’.
AJ decided against using his brute force and imposing frame and opted to try and outbox slick southpaw Usyk.
But it proved the wrong tactic as Joshua was comfortably bettered over the 12 round distance, surrendering his heavyweight titles.
British legend Lewis – who has been embroiled in a feud with AJ in the past – vented frustration at his fellow Olympic gold medalist.
He tweeted: “Gotta give it up to @usykaa on a great tactical performance tonight.
“For @anthonyjoshua it’s not the end of the road, but u (sic) can’t be so tentative or wait till the 8th round to turn it on.
    “Learn from this and improve.”
    ‘HE’LL BE BACK;
Jake Paul backed Anthony Joshua to ‘rise again as great champions do’ but was left stunned by Oleksandr Usyk’s win.
Paul, 24, recorded his reaction as Joshua, 31, barely survived the final round before going on to surrender his belts on points.
Despite his shock, the social media sensation, who is unbeaten in four fights, was full of encouragement for former champion AJ.
He tweeted: “@usykaa showed us a beautiful boxing performance… hats off…
“@anthonyjoshua has been here before and he will rise again as great champions do.
“Damn I’m shook I wanted Joshua to win.”
    LET’S GET PHYSICAL
David Haye says Anthony Joshua can beat Oleksandr Usyk in a rematch, if he makes use of his ‘physical attributes’.
Haye reckons AJ could turn the tables next time if he changes tactics – and adopts a more ruthless approach opposed to the sweet science.
He told iFL TV: “Anthony Joshua has a chance to reclaim his titles, it’s going to be a mega, mega match. A fight that I believe AJ can win.
“Looking at this fight you would say no, but he has what it takes. But he needs to change a lot of fundamental things in his game.
“Just rewatch the fight with Dereck Chisora. Chisora brought a gameplan to the table.
“He doesn’t have the physical attributes of Anthony Joshua but was able to win significantly more of the rounds in a very, very close fight.
‘So if Anthony Joshua uses his physical attributes in the fight – it’s no good looking at them in the mirror, they’ve got to be implemented in the fight.
“If they can be forced on Usyk, he can reclaim the titles.
“But if he tries to have a boxing match, or does anything remotely close to what he was doing on Saturday night, it will be the same again.”

    POCH’S PREPARATION
Mauricio Pochettino believes his PSG side have had the ‘perfect preparation’ ahead of their Champions League showdown against Manchester City on Tuesday.
Speaking after PSG’s 2-0 win against Montpellier on Saturday, the former Spurs boss said: “I don’t know if it’s the perfect night but it’s a good night with these three points won.
    “Eight wins in eight matches.
“It’s a good way to prepare for Manchester City’s visit in a competition, the Champions League, which is very important for the club and against a very strong opponent.”
    ‘WTF?!’
Football fans were left in stitches after a video emerged of Cesar Azpilicueta mounting Jack Grealish and supporters compared to a FIFA glitch.
The comical incident occurred during Manchester City’s 1-0 win at Chelsea on Saturday.
Once the footage surfaced, fans were quick to compare it to the famous video game.
One described the incident as a ‘FIFA glitch’.
Fillip wrote: “Looks like Azpilicueta wants to have angry make up s*x with Grealish.”
And several simply asked: “WTF is that?!”

    RASH UPDATE
Marcus Rashford has taken to Twitter to provide Manchester United fans a welcome start of the week update.
The 23-year-old has not featured for the Red Devils yet this season after undergoing shoulder surgery following England’s Euro 2020 campaign.
And the forward has been snapped back in training with United, but is yet to step it up to involving contact.
However, he tweeted this morning: “Happy Monday. I see the doctor on Friday for a consultation.
“All being well, I will get the green to join in with contact training again.”
    THREE IN A ROW?
Brighton have won both of their Premier League away games so far this season.
The Seagulls have never won three in a row on the road in the top-flight before, but can change that record tonight.
In fact, only three times have they ever won each of their first three away league games in a single season (1953-54, 1957-58 and 2011-12).
    XHAK-ED OFF
Mikel Arteta admitted he was ‘pretty worried’ after Granit Xhaka limped out of Arsenal’s 3-1 drubbing of Spurs.
The Switzerland international, 28, suffered a heavy knock late on during the Gunners’ big North London derby win.
Speaking after the match, Arteta said: “Unfortunately he got injury and I’m pretty worried because it doesn’t look very positive at the moment.”
He is now a doubt for Arsenal’s next Premier League game against Brighton at the Amex on Saturday evening.

    MONDAY BLUES
Crystal Palace and Brighton face off tonight in South London in what promised to be a hotly contested clash between two bitter rivals.
Although neither side have great records when it comes to playing football on a Monday.
Crystal Palace have won just one of their last 12 Premier League matches played on a Monday (D3 L8), though this victory did come against Brighton (2-1 in February).
Meanwhile, Brighton are winless in all 10 of their Premier League games played on a Monday (D7 L3).
    WERN’T FOR ME
Timo Werner wanted to join Manchester United over Chelsea and Liverpool before his £53million move to Stamford Bridge last summer.
That is according to evidence in a German court case between Werner’s agent Karl-Heinz Forster and his former associate Murat Lokurlu.
A ‘million-dollar- dispute is ongoing between the two men, as reported by Bild.
In WhatsApp messages from 2019, Werner reportedly told Lokurlu United were his ‘favourites’ with Chelsea named as ‘great alternatives’.
United, Chelsea and Liverpool are all said to have been in for Werner in 2019.
The Red Devils are said to have sent a proposal to Lokurlu via WhatsApp to which he replied: “We’ll see.”
Liverpool also reportedly submitted a concrete offer with a ‘secret meeting’ said to have taken place between Werner and the Reds.

    RON RECORD
In typically Cristiano Ronaldo fashion CR7 has quite the record against Wednesday’s opponents Villarreal.
In fifteen La Liga appearances against the Yellow Submarine for Real Madrid, Ronaldo has THIRTEEN goals.
The 36-year-old also chipped in with five assists against Villarreal during his time with Los Blancos.
But Ronaldo has also played against Villarreal four times as a United player – twice in 2005 and twice in 2008 during the Champions League group stages.
And he didn’t manage a single goal or assist in any of those games…
    Interesting.
    CHAMPIONS LEAGUE PREVIEW
The Champions League returns on tomorrow night, with some mouthwatering games set to take place.
Manchester City and Liverpool are the English teams in action tomorrow, with Chelsea and Manchester United taking to the field on Wednesday.

PSG vs Manchester City (Tues 8pm)
    Porto vs Liverpool (Tues 8pm)
    Juventus vs Chelsea (Weds 8pm)
Manchester United vs Villarreal (Weds 8pm)

    AS IT STANDS
Here’s a look at the live Premier League table.
Brighton can go TOP with victory at Selhurst Park tonight.

    WEEKEND’S SCORES
In case you were too busy watching the Ryder Cup this weekend, here’s a reminder of what happened in the Premier League.

And Brighton have won just one of their last seven away games against Crystal Palace in all competitions (D4 L2), though they are unbeaten in their last three at Selhurst Park.

Arsenal 3 Tottenham 1 LIVE REACITON: Gunners put Spurs to sword with ruthless first-half display – latest updates

ARSENAL beat North London rivals Tottenham 3-1 in their derby clash thanks to goals from Emile Smith Rowe, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bukayo Saka. Heung-min Son pulled one back for Spurs but it was too late as Arsenal leaped above Tottenham in the Premier League table.

    When is Arsenal vs Tottenham?

Arsenal vs Tottenham takes place on Sunday, September 26 – TODAY.
The match kicks off at 4.30pm.
    The Emirates Stadium plays host.

What TV channel and live stream is Arsenal vs Tottenham on?
Arsenal vs Tottenham will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event & Premier League.
Sky begin their coverage at 4pm.
    GOODBYE
That’s all from us in North London, which is most certainly red this evening.
Today’s fixture felt a pivotal one for both Arsenal and Tottenham, and now – given the fickle nature of football and its fans – all seems well at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners suddenly have an exciting, balanced array of young talent, a captain that guarantees goals, and all being coached by a progressive manager.
On the flip side, Spurs are in disarray and Nuno Espirito Santo is already under pressure. Harry Kane is a busted flush and the midfield is a shambles (that last one is actually true).
Of course, these opinions can – and most likely will – quickly change so join us next week for more Premier League action and more kneejerk reaction. Until then, thank you for joining us and goodnight.
    EMILE’S ALL SMILES
Emile Smith Rowe picked up his Man of the Match award at the end of an excellent afternoon’s work, and couldn’t contain his delight.
It’s probably the best day of my life. I’ve always dreamt about scoring for Arsenal against Tottenham. With my family here, it’s the best feeling ever.Emile Smith RoweSky Sports

    ON THE UP
After today’s victory, Arsenal will end the day above Tottenham for the first time in 11 months. The Gunners also find themselves in the top half for the first time this season.

    EXCRUCIATING KANE
Harry Kane’s 250th Premier League game was one to forget.
The England captain is still without a goal in the competition this season, and looks an increasingly frustrated figure in the Tottenham forward line.

    TABLES TURNED
Like the Toffees before them, Spurs have quickly found themselves in a sticky situation.

    FT: ARSENAL 3-1 SPURS
There are scenes of jubilant celebration at the Emirates Stadium at the full time whistle, both in the stands and on the pitch. The delight is clear to see on the faces of Aaron Ramsdale, Bukayo Saka, Mikel Arteta, and even the club photographer, who gets a lingering embrace from the Arsenal manager. Spurs improved in the second half but could only muster Son Heung-min’s late strike in retaliation to a blistering first half showing from the Gunners. Tonight, North London is red.
PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!ARSENAL WIN THE NORTH LONDON DERBY!
    ARSENAL 3-1 SPURS
90+3. Ramsdale’s reward is not one but two aggressive hugs from Ben White.
    ARSENAL 3-1 SPURS
90+2. Lucas Moura! Off the crossbar!
The Brazilian darts in from the right and unleashes a shot from outside the box that deflects off a defender and loops over Aaron Ramsdale to strike the goalframe.
The Gunners smuggle the ricochet behind for a corner, and then we’re treated to the real glory that is replay that shows Ramsdale getting fingertips on the ball in order to tip it on to the woodwork. What a save!

    ARSENAL 3-1 SPURS
90+1. He’s only been on a matter of minutes, but Lokonga goes into the book for a cynical foul on Gil.
Impressively efficient from the Belgian substitute.
    ARSENAL 3-1 SPURS
    90. The board goes up for five minutes of stoppage time. It’s now or never for Spurs.
    ARSENAL 3-1 SPURS
    87. Mikel Arteta makes a double substitution and it’s the end of the afternoon for the impressive pairing of Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka. They depart with two goals and two assists between them. If only we’d sent them off for the four balls yesterday evening.
On comes Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Nuno Tavares.
    ARSENAL 3-1 SPURS
    85. The Xhaka injury in the aftermath of the goal did well to rob Spurs of any momentum, and now Tierney going down for treatment is doing the same thing.
It’s a rare sign of shrewd game management from the Gunners.
    ARSENAL 3-1 SPURS
    83. Tierney tries to restore Arsenal’s three-goal advantage, but he’s way off with his belter from distance.
    ARSENAL 3-1 SPURS
    81. Accidental as it was, Xhaka is in a lot of discomfort following that challenge from Lucas Moura.
In fact, he’s unable to continue and so Mikel Arteta opts to change him with Albert Sambi Lokonga.
    ARSENAL 3-1 SPURS
    79. They couldn’t, could they?
Spur narrow the deficit with 11 minutes remaining as Son Heung-min converts Sergio Reguilon’s low centre from 15 yards. Aaron Ramsdale got a hand to the shot, but couldn’t keep it out.
There’s an immediate VAR review because Granit Xhaka was clearly taken out in the build-up to the goal by Lucas Moura, but replays show that it was a Thomas Partey foul on the Brazilian that took him bundling into the Arsenal man.
Those Tottenham fans remaining will hope for a miracle, but there’s surely more chance of Europe lifting the Ryder Cup this evening than the visitors claiming anything here.

    GOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAALLLLLL!!SON HEUNG-MIN PULLS ONE BACK!!
    ARSENAL 3-0 SPURS
    77. Gaps are beginning to form in the Spurs section of the Emirates Stadium. They’ve given up hope of rescuing anything here, and some have started to give up on their new boss.
The Arsenal fans don’t miss a trick either and serenade the Tottenham manager with “you’re getting sacked in the morning.”
    ARSENAL 3-0 SPURS
    75. Xhaka has gone down with cramp. Saka has gone down with cramp. It’s been that kind of tireless performance from the Gunners.
My hand is pretty sore too.
    ARSENAL 3-0 SPURS
    73. Although I shouldn’t include Bukayo Saka in surmising such nonsense.
The 20-year-old wants more goals, and almost brings a fourth single-handedly.
He makes his way down the right before cutting inside Sergio Reguilon and curling a low effort around Eric Dier. It requires Hugo Lloris to fling himself low to save.
    ARSENAL 3-0 SPURS
    71. Inside the final 20 minutes, and it looks as though both teams may have settled for this scoreline.
    ARSENAL 3-0 SPURS
    69. Tottenham’s final change brings Bryan Gil into the action. The young Spaniard is on for Tanguy Ndombele.
    ARSENAL 3-0 SPURS
    68. Lloris slices a backpass straight out of play and immediately starts blaming his defence like all good captains should.
    ARSENAL 3-0 SPURS
    66. Do you know who’s not loving it? Oliver Skipp.
The Spurs substitute unleashes a whole club’s frustration on Thomas Partey with a late tackle that does bring the game’s first caution.

    ARSENAL 3-0 SPURS
    65. Ole! Ole! Ole! The home side are now playing keep ball and the home fans are loving it.

LEWIS HAMILTON has won a thrilling Russian Grand Prix in a crazy, rain-soaked finale. The track had been dry for the best part of 48 laps but rain drenched the track in the last five laps.
Stubborn leader Lando Norris insisted on staying on the track, but his tyres could not handle the slippery tarmac.
Hamilton, who pitted for new tyres, took advantage and reeled his fellow Brit in in no time, as Norris slid off the track for an easy overtake for the champ.
And it resulted in 100 GRAND PRIX WINS for Hamilton, a stunning achievement in his trophy-laden career.
Max Verstappen did an outstanding job as well, coming from the back of the field to surge into second on the last lap, thanks in part to Norris’ blunder.

HAMILTON: ‘TEAM MADE THE RIGHT CALL’
“What a race the weather provided. It’s taken a long time to get to 100 and I wasn’t sure it would come.
“Lando did such an amazing job, he had incredible pace and is doing such a great job for McLaren. It was bittersweet to see my old team ahead and they’re doing fantastically.
“The team made a great call right at the end. I didn’t want to let Lando go and I didn’t know what the weather was doing. I’m incredibly grateful to all these men and women here and back at the factory.
“Going to bed last night I was not the happiest with the job I did yesterday. I watched the replay and they were subtle mistakes but not ideal. I was so determined when I woke up this morning and I was determined to just do the best job I could. I lost a lot of ground at the start trying to stay out of trouble.
“Max must’ve done a really great job to come up to second from last. We’ve got our work cut out.
“It would’ve been tough to get past Lando unless we came up to some traffic or he made a mistake, which he hasn’t been doing, so then the rain came and it was very opportunistic.”

After aiming for damage limitation, Verstappen stormed from last palce to second.

    MAX STILL OPTIMISTIC
Max Verstappen had the penalty hanging over his head and he explained the reasoning behind the decision to take it in Russia.
He told Sky Sports: “It’s not only the results, we took everything into account, also the weather for tomorrow. We thought it would be best to take it here.
“In 2018 the gaps to the midfield were bigger so I think it will be a bit more difficult to cut through. We had to take a penalty anyway and if we hadn’t have taken it here we’d have to take it somewhere else so we thought we’ll decide to do it here and try and make the best of it.
“We just try to make the best possible race car for this weekend after we decided to take that engine. Of course it’s going to work out and let’s first see how the weather will be tomorrow.”
    ‘NOTHING TO LOSE’
Christian Horner believes that Lewis Hamilton is “under way more pressure” to win the 2021 title than Max Verstappen is.
Ahead of the Russian Grand Prix, Hamilton suggested that Verstappen was feeling the pressure of going for his first World Championship and said he could empathise as he felt the same when he was doing so in 2007.
He said: “I think Lewis trying to get his eighth title is under way more pressure than Max going for his first.
“Max is just enjoying what he’s doing, he’s driving better than ever. If you want to look at how he deals with pressure just go and look at Zandvoort, the intense pressure that he was under that weekend.
“Look, he’s driving better than he’s ever driven, he’s enjoying driving the car, he’s enjoying the challenge, he’s enjoying the competition.
    “He’s got nothing to lose.”
    ‘BIG SHAME FOR MAX’
Lewis Hamilton says Mercedes must make the most of the opportunity offered by Max Verstappen’s grid penalty at this weekend’s Russian Grand Prix.
Hamilton, who lies five points behind Verstappen at the top of the championship table, said the development “doesn’t really change anything for us” but admitted it gave him a valuable opportunity.
He said: “We’ve just got to do our thing and focus. It’s a tough year, I think, for everyone with reliability. That’s definitely a shame for him.
“But we’ve got to try and capitalise on that, get a maximum result. A one-two would be spectacular for us as a team.”
    LEW-K OUT
Lewis Hamilton had a successful practice run but he messed up when he arrived back in the pits.
The Brit pressed on the brakes a fraction too late and almost hit his mechanic.
The mechanic quickly took a few steps backwards but lost his balance and ended up on his back – fortunately he got up right away and appears to be okay.

    CRASH!
Giovinazzi crashes his Alfa Romeo! Red flag!
He’s understeered at Turn 8 and spins and then slams backwards into the barriers.
That’s made a mess of his rear wing, and the barriers.
The session is suspended to recover the car, and fix the barriers.
    LANDO GOING WELL
In third is Pierre Gasly with Brit Lando Norris finishing up fourth.
Max Verstappen could not improve on his FP1 run and is down in sixth place.
    MERCEDES HIT BACK
FP2 ends in the same way as FP1 with Valtteri Bottas leading the way followed by Lewis Hamilton.
The pair recorded times of 1:33:593 and 1:33:637 respectively.
    LECLERC THE MAN TO BEAT
Charles Leclerc is the early pacesetter in FP2, and is now ahead of Mercedes pair Valteri Bottas and lewis Hamitlon.
The Ferrari driver recorded the third-fastest time in FP1 but has improved on that return.
    MAX BLOW
Max Verstappen will start from the back of the grid after being hit with a penalty due to Red Bull opting to take a new Honda power unit at Sochi.
Verstappen lost his second engine of the season after his heavy crash at Silverstone, caused by contact with title rival Lewis Hamilton.
He had to switch to a brand new power unit for the next race in Hungary, as a crack was discovered in the repaired engine after qualifying, which moved him onto his third set of major engine components of the season.
Drivers can only use three each of the international combustion engine, MGU-H, turbocharger and MGU-K in a season before grid penalties start being applied.
Honda attempted to salvage the cracked power unit but it cannot be used in races again this season, leaving Verstappen with only the engine introduced in Hungary and a high-mileage engine from early in the season to get to the end of the year without a penalty.
    ‘LEWIS WON’T BAIL’
Lewis Hamilton has decided not to back out of on-track battles when he believes he has a right to the corner, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff says.
Wolff said it followed discussions over the aggressive approach to racing of title rival Max Verstappen of Red Bull.
Wolff said: “The change in approach is that Lewis pretty much decided not to bail out any more when he thinks the corner is his.
“Now it needs two to understand when a collision can be avoided.”
    ‘NICE TO BE FIGHTING’
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc finished between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen in practice one and he is glad to be competing with the race leaders.
Leclerc told The Race: “They have two different styles. Max is a bit more on the aggressive side, Lewis a bit more on the clean side. It’s nice to be fighting with both of them.
“Lewis is always very, very clever in the way he positions his car to put you in a difficult situation. And he most of the time manages to make the pass in a clean way.
“But I enjoy racing with both, and if anything I quite like fighting with Max because it’s always really on the limit.”

    ‘WE NEED CHAOS’
Fernando Alonso is feeling confident ahead of Sunday’s Grand Prix but admits he would near close to a miracle to win.
He told Autosport: “I think we are the fifth or sixth team in the field. So to take a podium we need a very chaotic race. Without that, P6 or P7 is our maximum achievable position.
“A clean Friday is important, because it could be the only dry run of the weekend.
“You never know, but at least we have more confidence here than in Monza.”

Lando Norris crashed into the wall and damaged the front wing on his McLaren as he made his way back to the pits at the end of first practice at the 2021 Formula 1 Russian Grand Prix.
He somehow managed to clip a concrete barrier on his way into the pits and ended up in a spin.
It was a momentary lapse in concentration of an otherwise positive opening session for the Brit, who recorded the sixth-fastest time in first practice.
    MERCEDES ON TOP
We’re halfway through first practice and it is Mercedes pair Valterri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton who have set the fastest times so far.
Charles Leclerc follows closely behind and then comes Hamilton’s rival Max Verstappen, just under a second down on the Brit.
It is heating up to be an exciting qualification.

    FP1 LATEST
More good speed from Bottas on a glorious morning in Russia, with the Mercedes man going fastest to top the leaderboards.
Let’s hope that the rain forecast doesn’t wreak havoc on FP2 and FP3, because the track looks in terrific condition for racing.
    TO THE MAX
Verstappen on the soft tyres and he finally puts his foot to the floor.
The Driver’s Championship leader goes fastest in FP1.
    BOTTAS ON THE CHARGE
Valtterri isn’t half bad at this track – and is showing good early pace on the hard tyres.
A terrific last sector puts him fastest with a 1:36.4, Leclerc and Hamilton nex.t
    FP1 LIVE
Hamilton, Bottas and Leclerc showing good early pace on this pancake of a track.
There’s just under 2m of elevation through the entire thing.
We mentioned the weather earlier and that’s something to keep an eye on for qualifying and the race itself on Sunday – the forecast is for heavy rain…

    LECLERC PENALTY
An upgrade to Ferrari’s power unit has put Leclerc on the back of the grid on Sunday.
Carlos Sainz though, he still has the old unit and will have NO penalty. Ferrari didn’t want both their cars starting at the back.
They’re out on the track now, with the two Mercedes’ also joining the fray.
    HAMMER TIME
Lewis Hamilton is adamant he will not crack under the pressure of his intense F1 title fight with Max Verstappen.
The rivalry has exploded on track with the two coming to blows at the British and Italian Grands Prix.
Last out at Monza, Hamilton said he was lucky to be alive after Verstappen landed his Red Bull racecar on to the top of his Mercedes – earning the Dutchman a three-place grid penalty here in Sochi.
Hamilton, who is locked in to his 10th title fight, was quizzed whether Verstappen’s actions were showing he is struggling to cope with the added pressure.
He said: “Obviously he won’t admit to it, I’m not going to make an assumption.
“But I’m just saying I remember [my first one] was difficult. It was intense. I was going through a lot of different emotions, I didn’t always handle it the best. And that’s to be expected, it’s a lot of pressure.
“You’re working in a big team, there’s a lot of self-expectation and pressure because the desire to win is huge.”

    MERC TERRITORY
This is Mercedes’ track, if previous years are anything to go by.

    FP1 IS GO!
Time for action in Russia, where there’s just been an impressive fly-past from the military.
This could be one of those practice sessions that tells us everything – or nothing.
But it wouldn’t be F1 without that unpredictability.
The drivers just about to head out on track under clear skies.
    MAX ATTACKS
Max Verstappen has taken another swipe at Lewis Hamilton as their F1 battle is set to erupt in Russia.
The two clashed at the Italian GP where Hamilton claimed he was lucky to be ALIVE after Verstappen launched his Red Bull off a kerb and on to the roof of the Brit’s Mercedes.
And they have looked horns again after Hamilton had hinted that the pressure could be getting to the 23-year-old, who is in his first title fight, with Verstappen hitting back saying: “You don’t even know me.”
Hamilton was quizzed whether Verstappen’s desperate lunge in Monza showed he is struggling to cope with the added pressure.
He said: “Obviously Max won’t admit to it, I’m not going to make an assumption!
“But I remember [my first title battle] was difficult. It was intense. I was going through a lot of different emotions.
“I didn’t always handle it the best. And that’s to be expected, it’s a lot of pressure.”

    SCHEDULE
There’s no sprint qualifying at the Russian Grand Prix, so the weekend takes on a familiar pattern.
First and second practice will be held on Friday, September 24 at 9.30am BST and 1pm BST.
Qualifying follows on Saturday, with the action getting underway at 1pm.
And the big race itself will be held on Sunday, September 26 with lights out at 1pm.
You can catch all of the action live on Sky Sports F1.
Coverage of first practice begins at 9am on Friday, with streaming available on Sky Go.
    WE GO AGAIN
    Ready for more?
After Monza threw up thrills and spills galore, F1 is back this weekend for the Russian Grand Prix.
Neither Lewis Hamilton or Max Verstappen finished the race in Italy, crashing together mid-race and further fuelling their ongoing rivalry.
The Dutchman has been slapped with a three-place grid penalty ahead of this weekend’s Russian GP for causing the smash that took them both out.
Ahead of the big race on Sunday, we have two practice sessions today (9am and 1pm) before qualifying tomorrow.
We could be in for a real treat – don’t miss a second with our live blog from Sochi.
