34, De Bruyne again… and he blazes over.
A brilliant cross to the far post from Foden finds him in all kinds of space.
De Bruyne was closing in behind Robertson completely unmarked to surely head City in the lead, but it balloons off his head and into the stands.
    City should be ahead.

    LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY
32, Foden goes down, and can’t believe he hasn’t got a penalty there.
He was brought down by Milner right on the edge of the area but no foul given.
Looks to me like Liverpool got away with one there.
At very least it was a free-kick on the edge of the box.
    LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY
31, Oh wow. Dias absolutely fired in a backpass to Ederson and the man City goalkeeper did very well to stop it from going in.
    Nervy stuff.
    LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY
28, Robertson tries to get the crowd going and inject some energy with some high-impact tackles.
The crowd respond to the Reds left-back.
Liverpool need a lift and Robertson might have just provided it.
    LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY
26, First booking of the game as Dias makes sure Jota is not getting past him.
Meanwhile, here’s the Bernardo run from earlier. Magical.
🎙️ “It was a magical run, it really was.” Wonderful work from Bernardo Silva, but Alisson denies Phil Foden!📺 #LIVMCI on Sky Sports Premier League pic.twitter.com/D7J0dLbsaf— Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) October 3, 2021

    LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY
25, De Bruyne…. flashes it across the face of goal.
Another chance for City, he made a lovely run between Matip and Van Dijk and Cancelo provided the pass.
But De Bruyne’s left-foot strike is well wide in the end.
    LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY
23, Midway through the first half and City will be very happy with how things have gone.
Liverpool just haven’t got going so far and the crowd have been pretty quiet.
The better football coming from the men in light blue.

    LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY
21, CHANCE for City, but Alisson is off his line to deny Foden.
That was outstanding from Bernardo to shrug off Henderson, Robertson, Fabinho and then skip past Van Dijk before sliding in Foden.
What a run from Silva, and a big save from Alisson at the end of that move.
Warning sign for Liverpool and their crowd are trying to wake them up.
    LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY
18, Error from Alisson as his poor clearance goes straight to Bernardo Silva.
He fed the ball into Jesus, but Matip was back to block and bail his goalkeeper out.
Alisson had a shocker here in February against Man City, he’ll want to settle the nerves and avoid a repeat here.
    LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY
16, Better from City, and they have an overlap down the left with Foden and Bernardo.
Bernardo stood it up to the far post but Robertson did very well to deal with it as Jesus closed in behind him.
    LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY
14, Good possession from City to try and draw some of the sting out of Liverpool and quieten the crowd.
They haven’t turned it into anything threatening yet. Yet being the key word.
    .Credit: AFP
    LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY
11, Both defences pushing very high, Liverpool maybe comforted in the fact that Sterling is on the bench and City don’t have the pace to get in behind that they might have.
Still goalless, but riveting stuff. Like a couple of heavyweights sparring the early rounds.
    LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY
7, Milner’s corner from the right looked to be swinging onto the head of Matip.
The Kop held it’s breath, but it was just out of reach of the tall centre-back.
Fast start from Liverpool as expected. I can’t think of any other ground in the world that is so different with fans in it compared to when empty.

    LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY
5, City looking to get on the ball and slow it down whenever possible.
Liverpool are 100mph, trying to win the ball up field and get at City quickly.
    Fascinating tactical battle.
    LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY
3, Grealish is in the middle of the front 3 for City in a false-nine position.
Foden has lined up out on the left against Milner and Jesus on the right.
    Interesting.

    LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY
1, An early sign from Liverpool of how they’ll look to get at City today with a long, raking diagonal pass in behind looking for Mane.
Ederson is off his line quickly, though, to deal with it.
    PEEEEEEEEEPPPP
And we’re underway. Liverpool kick us off.
    FINAL COUNTDOWN
You’ll Never Walk Alone bellows around Anfield.
Looks like Man City have won the toss and switched ends, so Liverpool will be attacking the Kop in the first half.
There will be a tribute for the late great Roger Hunt, who died this week.

    PEP TALKING TO SKY SPORTS
“We have to just try and play football. We can’t come here just to defend. I know we’re going to suffer, like we did at Chelsea and in Paris as well.”

    KLOPP TALKING TO SKY SPORTS
“It’s just one of these games where you have to be really spot on and at your best because of your opponent.
“Apart from last year’s game here behind closed doors when we made a lot of mistakes it’s pretty much always been tight and exciting.”
    ONE ON ONE
James Milner will start at right-back today against his former club in the absence of Alexander-Arnold.
He’ll be up against Jack Grealish down that flank.
A tough afternoon in store for Milner you feel, and that little battle could be critical in deciding the outcome of this match.

    KLOPP ON COVID
Jurgen Klopp made his feelings known on players not being vaccinated against Covid-19.
It’s a problem among Premier League clubs at the moment, and the Liverpool boss can’t understand it.
The Liverpool boss said: “If I say I am vaccinated, other people say: ‘How can you tell me I should be vaccinated?’ It is a little bit like drink-driving.
“We all probably were in a situation where we had a beer or two and thought we still could drive, but [because of] the law, we are not allowed to drive, so we don’t drive.
“But this law is not there for protecting me when I drink two beers and want to drive, it’s for protecting all the other people because I’m drunk, and we accept that as a law.”
    FULL-TIME
All three 2pm games have just finished, and here are the final scores:

    Crystal Palace 2-2 Leicester

What a different a week makes.
This time last Sunday, supporters of Spurs were crestfallen after defeat at Arsenal, but fast forward seven days and Tottenham are scoring goals, winning games and above their North London rivals in the table again.
It’s been an exciting, enthralling afternoon in the Premier League, and it’s not done yet so hop over to Anfield for our live coverage of Liverpool against Manchester City.
    Thanks for following, and goodbye.
    SMITH SALUTES SON
In his post-match press conference, Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has praised Tottenham’s Son Heung-min for the performance that did for his side.
I felt we started the second half well, but sometimes you have to tip your hat to the the outstanding player on the pitch and that was Son Heung-min. I thought the only difference between the two teams today was Son.Dean Smith

    KANE PAIN CONTINUES
It was a less fruitful afternoon for Son’s partner in crime, Harry Kane.
Admittedly, the striker was much more involved than previous weeks, and came close to ending his scoring drought with a couple of fine efforts.
However, it’s now six matches in the Premier League without a goal, his worst run in six years.

    NICE ONE, SON
Son Heung-min produced a brilliant second half showing to help Spurs to all three points, potentially kickstarting their season.
Two assists for the South Korean means he has now contributed six goals and six assists in his last 12 Premier League appearances at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

    TOTTENHAM HOJBJERG
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg led by example in the Tottenham midfield today, forming a solid partnership with Oliver Skipp and getting his side on their way with a classy opening goal.

    FULL TIME STATS
Shot shy Spurs? Not on the evidence of this afternoon’s performance. Tottenham racked up 17 attempts mainly thanks to an electrifying second half performance from Son Heung-min and co.

    FULL TIME RESULTS
Elsewhere in the Premier League this afternoon, Crystal Palace fought back from 2-0 down to draw with Leicester while Brentford’s excellent start to life in the top-flight continued with a dramatic late, late, late win at West Ham.

    Crystal Palace 2-2 Leicester
    Spurs 2-1 Aston Villa
    West Ham 1-2 Brentford

    FT: SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA
A huge win for Tottenham and Nuno Espirito Santo, and three points well deserved. The hosts impressed in the second half with Son Heung-min the star of the show. Having laid on the first for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, the South Korean was also the driving force behind the winner, eventually credited as a Matt Targett own-goal. The decisive moment came minutes after Villa had forced themselves level through Ollie Watkins’ first of the campaign.
    PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!THE FINAL WHISTLE IS BLOWN!
    SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA
90+3. Son has dazzled in this second half, and still has enough in the tank to tie Douglas Luiz up in knots.
The Spurs star takes the ball towards the corner flag, and then fools the Villa midfielder into conceding a free-kick.
The South Korean deserves to be on the winning side today.
    SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA
    90. There will be five minutes of stoppage time to be added on.
    Still time for a twist?
    SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA
    89. One change apiece as the game heads towards the 90th minute.
Bryan Gil replaces Lucas Moura for Spurs while Aston Villa’s Cameron Archers comes on for Danny Ings.
    SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA
    87. Another chance for Spurs, another one passed up to seal the points.
A long ball over the top puts Kane one-on-one with Martinez, but a sloppy first touch makes the subsequent shot a tricky one and the Villa goalkeeper gets out quickly to block.
Surely the home side won’t come to rue these chances?
    SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA
    86. That should have been it! And what a goal it would have been!
Son does brilliantly to bring the ball forward again, and then slips in Kane with a lovely through ball.
The striker could take on the shot from a difficult angle, but instead executes a perfect back-heel to put Lo Celso in on goal.
It’s a glorious change for the substitute, who falters by striking straight at Martinez.
    SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA
    85. Five minutes to go and there certainly feels as if there’s another goal in this, one end or the other.
    SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA
    82. Lo Celso goes wide with a curler, and Spurs are fancying their chances of putting this game to bed.
Even Kane is getting closer to a goal, having just struck a thunderbolt wide a moment ago.
    SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA
    81. Aston Villa make their second change, and it’s another attacking option in Bertrand Traore.
The wide man comes on for defender Kortney Hause.
    SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA
    79. The Premier League have now ruled that Tottenham’s second will instead go down as a Matt Targett own-goal.
It seems harsh on Lucas Moura, who definitely looked to have got a touch on the ball as the players combined. He remains without a goal since February.
    SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA
    77. Ings twists and turns inside the penalty area, eventually getting a shot away but with one that’s well held by Lloris in the Spurs goal.
    SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA
    76. Now Spurs opt to make their change with Lo Celso on for Ndombele.
The departing Frenchman has really impressed in spells this afternoon.
    SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA
    74. Ings tries to work Watkins in behind for Tottenham defence again, but this time an offside flag is raised against the former Brentford man.
    SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA
    73. Spurs looks as though they’re planning a change of their own after that goal, and it looks as though we may soon see Giovani Lo Celso.
    SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA
    71. Aston Villa weren’t level for long!
Tottenham regain the lead in exhilarating fashion with Son Heung-min again their creator supreme.
The South Korean breaks down the left at pace, and this time receives the right pass. He brings it under his spell wonderfully as he makes his way into the area, looks up, and then picks out Lucas Moura.
The cross is perfect, low and beyond Emiliano Martinez, and the Brazilian couldn’t miss from close range despite the sliding presence of Matt Targett.
For the first time this season, Spurs have two in a Premier League game.

GOOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLLL!!LUCAS MOURA RESTORES THE HOME SIDE’S LEAD!!
    SPURS 1-1 ASTON VILLA
    69. Despite the equaliser, Dean Smith persists with the change and introduces Buendia for Ramsey.

    RAIN RAIN GO AWAY
Spot of rain? No problem, get the poncho’s out to keep you dry and enjoy the football.

    MIK ON THE MIC
The Arsenal boss’ decisions have been under severe scrutiny in the opening weeks of the season and many supporters have called for his contract to be terminated this early on in the season after the disastrous start.
But three games later, there is a positive feeling around the club again and Mikel Arteta was asked in his pre-match press conference whether he believes the club being in a crisis is coming to an end.
I think that feeling is very necessary at a big club because every defeat is a crisis and it should be a crisis, and you have to deal with that pressure.
If you want to be the best you have to cope with that and realise that excellence is the only way and the only thing that is expected. Anything else isn’t good enough.Mikel Artetaarsenal.com
    WORK OF ART
Mikel Arteta has to be the most spoken about manager in the Premier League because he divides so much opinion.
When the Spaniard was appointed as the head coach of Arsenal football club in 2019, a majority of the fan base were unhappy with this decision.
His inexperience at the top level left Gooners confused as to why he was chosen for the job but when the 39-year-old delivered the FA Cup against all odds in his first season, fans began to get behind ‘the project’ he was trying to produce.
However, it all started to go pear shape in the following season when Arteta could only guide Arsenal to a second consecutive 8th Premier League finish which meant that the North London outfit did not qualify for any European competitions for the first time in 25 years.
And it didn’t get any better for the former midfield maestro because Arsenal endeavored their worst start to a campaign since 1954/55 having lost their three opening games without scoring a goal and conceding nine in that time.
However, fortunes seem to be changing because Arsenal have won their last four games in a row across all competitions only conceding one goal in the process.
The Premier League’s current youngest manager will not want to get carried away as he will know that these victories are stepping stones but should his team slay Brighton this evening, then things will really start to look promising for Arsenal.
    AR-MED AND DANGEROUS
Mikel Arteta has arrived in Brighton town and is hoping to head back to London with all three points.

    1 Leno, 17 Cedric, 16 Holding, 20 Tavares, 25 Elneny, 15 Maitland-Niles, 19 Pepe, 35 Martinelli, 9 Lacazette
    ARSENAL XI
As expected, Mikel Arteta starts the game with the exact same line-up who took Spurs apart bar the one change in midfield due to a long-term injury.
Aaron Ramsdale keeps his spot in goal with the Gabriel and former Seagulls defender Ben White just in front to protect the English goalkeeper.
Albert Sambi Lokonga steps in for absentee Granit Xhaka who is expected to be out for up to three months
Which leaves the front quartet as Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Emile Smith-Rowe and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang who all keep their spot.
    (4-2-3-1): 32 Ramsdale; 18 Tomiyasu, 4 White, 6 Gabriel, 3 Tierney; 5 Thomas, 23 Sambi Lokonga; 7 Saka, 8 Odegaard, 10 Smith-Rowe; 14 Aubameyang

    BRIGHTON BENCH
    23 Steele, 2 Lamptey, 7 Connolly, 10 Mac Allister, 20 March, 27 Locadia, 28 Roberts, 30 Richards, 60 Sarmiento
    BRIGHTON XI
Unfortunately for the Brighton supporters and Graham Potter, Yves Bissouma and Danny Welbeck were unable to pass their late fitness tests ahead of this evening’s big clash so they both miss out.
The Brighton boss has stuck with the trusted Robert Sanchez in goal with a back three of Shane Duffy, Daniel Burn and skipper Lewis Dunk.
No return for Yves Bissouma in the center of the park which means another Adam Lallana and Pascal Gross partnership with Marc Cucucrella and Joel Veltman either side of them.
Jakub Moder replaces Danny Welbeck and Leandro Trossard will be filling in the other pockets of space.
And of course, the thorn in Arsenal’s back-side Neal Maupay plays as the loan striker.
    (3-4-2-1): 1 Sanchez; 24 Duffy, 5 Dunk, 33 Burn; 34 Veltman, 13 Gross, 14 Lallana, 3 Cucurella; 11 Trossard, 15 Moder; 9 Maupay

    COMPARISON
Below is what both Brighton and the Gunners Premier League form guide looks like in a graph format.

    ARSENAL RECENT RUN
The Gunners are beginning to string some wins together since the return from the international break.
Three loses, no goals scored and a goal difference of -9 has suddenly turned into three Premier League wins in a row which includes a comfortable 3-1 thrashing over their rivals from down the road, Spurs.
At the end of August, Arsenal were rock bottom in the table but a victory this evening could see them end September within touching distance of a European spot.

    ARSENAL TREATMENT ROOM
For the first time in a long time, the Gunners were eight minutes away from going into two consecutive fixtures with a full-strengthened squad.
Yes you read that correct, Arsenal had no casualties whatsoever before the North London derby.
However during the game against Spurs last weekend, Lucas Moura’s entire body weight landed on Swiss international Granit Xhaka’s knee following a challenge from Thomas Partey which then forced the Arsenal midfielder to leave the field early.
It was first reported that Xhaka would only miss 6-8 weeks but after a further scan and assessment on the ligament, the medical team have confirmed that the 29-year-old will be ruled out for up to three months.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta addressed this situation in his press conference where he said:
“Obviously, it’s really bad news personally for Granit. He’s had a couple of incidents already this season with Covid, with suspension and now with long-term injury.
He’s a strong man and he will use this time to focus on other things and I’m sure he will be back in the right place when he’s back.”
As mentioned earlier, everyone else in the team is fit and raring to go but will the Switzerland captain be a big miss to Mikel Arteta’s game plan?
    BRIGHTON CURRENT FORM
For Graham Potter’s sake, let’s hope that the amount of injuries don’t have a negative impact on Brighton’s upcoming fixture list because leading up to his game, the Seagulls have been on fire.
Adding the Carabao Cup second and third round tie’s to the list, Brighton have won six out of their last eight matches which includes a huge 2-1 over 2015/16 Premier League champions Leicester City.
A narrow 1-0 victory over newly promoted Brentford who comfortably beat Arsenal on the opening day of the season and they held 6x Champions League winners Liverpool to a 3-3 draw last weekend.

    BRIGHTON INJURY CRISIS
Earlier on in the week, it was feared that the Seagulls could be going into today’s clash against Arsenal with as many as six first team members unavailable.
But thankfully for the Brighton entourage, Graham Potter confirmed that this is not the case in his pre-match press conference.
However it’s not all good news because the Brighton boss stated that there could still be at least three key players who are not able to make it for this afternoon.
The Englishman said: “Bissouma, making progress, that will be a decision later on in the week.
“Danny (Welbeck) at the moment is seeing a specialist so again we need to wait for that.
    “Alzate, no.”
There were further questions on highly rated midfielder Yves Bissouma after critics suggested that the Mali international should have been taken off earlier in the 2-1 victory over Leicester two weekends ago.
Potter responded by saying: “Well no it’s not that. I don’t think it necessarily made it any worse as far as I know and the medical guys have said the same.
“As soon as he was injured there was always going to be a bit of soreness afterwards. Sometimes it’s really hard to assess at the time; I’ll leave those decisions with the player and the medical team.”
    BEN WHITE STATS SO FAR
Former Seagulls defender Ben White currently holds Brighton’s player of the season award.
But if the 23-year-old wants to replicate that at Arsenal, he needs to ensure the defensive unit continues their solidarity which they have put in over the last three games.
Below are White’s stats for Arsenal in the early stages of the 2021/22 campaign.

    BEN IS BACK
Arsenal’s mega signing Ben White is set to make a return to the Amex Stadium for the first time since his £50 million switch in the summer.
The Englishman was a key fixture in Graham Potter’s starting eleven because he featured 36 times out of the 38 Premier League games played and for a valid reason too.
White’s confidence and composure on the ball alongside his versatility in the defence, helped him to secure Brighton’s player of the year award last season despite some fans in disagreement.
To cap that all off, the 23-year-old would go on to land an unexpected call-up to the England senior squad for the EURO 2020; A decision which left White “speechless” once he was presented with the news.
Unfortunately, White wasn’t able to get any game time during England’s run to the final but that didn’t deter the young starlet’s move to Arsenal.
Life at his new club is beginning to vastly improve after what was a horrendous start whereas his former club aren’t showing any signs of missing him.
Will White come back to haunt the Amex Stadium or will his old teammates get the better of him?
    LEAGUE TABLE
If certain results go their way, the Seagulls will be able to enjoy the international break in high spirits.
Brighton’s current points tally is 13 points (W4 D1 L1) which means that they find themselves in a temporary European spot and with both Manchester United and Everton already dropping points in the early kick-off, a win today can push them up into the top two.
    I know, crazy right?
On the other hand the Gunners have found themselves struggling in the bottom half of the table at the beginning stages of the 2021/22 campaign.
However, they are finally flirting with the top half of the table and not only would a victory today make that a fourth consecutive Premier League win but it could help them go level with West Ham in 7th spot.

    SALT N PEPE
Here is part two of Nicolas Pepe’s brace from the last time Brighton took an Arsenal in the Premier League.
The Ivorian rubbed salt into the wounds with this coolly dispatched finish.

    REMINDER
Brighton should be encouraged by today’s encounter being at the Amex Stadium because the last time the Seagulls took on Arsenal at the Emirates, it wasn’t a happy hunting ground.
A brilliant second half brace from Nicolas Pepe helped the Gunners to secure all three points in North London on the final day of last season.
Arsenal were firmly on top from the first whistle and had it not been for narrowly missed effort and the strong right hand of Seagulls goalkeeper Roberto Sanchez, Thomas Partey would have had himself a brace in the early stages of the first 45.
Rob Holding then believed he flicked the ball in the back of the net shortly after following Martin Odegaard’s corner but the referee never received a notification on his watch which meant that the ball didn’t cross the line.
And Arsenal’s rock at the back Gabriel thought his floated header was going to crash in the goal just before half-time but the cross-bar denied him of a third goal in his debut season.
However, that never threw Arteta’s men off because five minutes after the interval, a right-footed low drive from Pepe put Arsenal ahead.
His second then came a little over ten minutes later when the £72 million man cut inside from the right hand side and perfectly placed his shot past Sanchez.
Yves Bissouma did come close to pulling one back for the visitors, but his shot whistled past Bernd Leno’s post.
Which meant that for a third successive season, Brighton lost their final fixture of the campaign.
    ONE BIG COMMUNITY
In 1997, Brighton said a fitting goodbye to former stadium Goldstone where they finally defeated Doncaster Rovers 1-0 after six consecutive defeats against the South Yorkshire club.
Two years later the club would return as tenants of the Withdean Stadium which would eventually receive a capacity upgrade once Brighton were promoted the Division One (current name – EFL Championship)
Fast forward to 31 May 2011, Brighton football club were officially handed over the keys to a finished project which originally went by the name of the Falmer Stadium.
And now in 2021, for sponsorship reasoning, it is commonly known as the American Express Community Stadium (AMEX), the home of a now fully established Premier League team.
Even in the rain, she’s a beauty.

    BLACK HISTORY MONTH
Brighton and Hove Albion’s special touch on how they will be celebrating black history month.
    I love this from them.
Proud To Be Albion. ✊Throughout October we will be taking a closer look at the people who have broken new ground at our club. #BlackHistoryMonth— Brighton & Hove Albion (@OfficialBHAFC) October 1, 2021

    GOOD AFTERNOON
Greeting readers of SunSport. I hope you are all well and you have had a good Saturday so far.
I want everyone to close their eyes and picture themselves being in Brighton on a sunny Saturday, ice-ring doughnut in one hand and a beverage of your choice in the other.
    Sounds good doesn’t it?
Well there are two things for certain.
One, you are not there and two, it’s not a sunny day in Brighton by any means, in fact it’s the complete the opposite.
But fortunately that will not stop our live coverage this afternoon which will be the Gunners taking on Brighton in the South Cosst at the Amex Stadium.
Seagulls, I take my hats off to you guys, what a start you have had.
With four wins in their first six games, they find themselves in the European spots and dare I say it, only two points off current league leaders Cheslea.
And if Graham Potter’s men had beaten Crystal Palace last Monday, they could have jumped to the top of the charts but a 95th minute equaliser from Neal Maupay, enabled them to scrape a 1-1 draw instead.
As for Arsenal, the North London outfit have really started to turn their fortunes around after losing their opening three Premier League fixtures.
According to the gaffer, the victories against Norwich and Burnley were building blocks but the convincing 3-1 triumph over their bitter North London rivals Spurs is now lift off.
Fancy seeing if the Gunners can back their mangers words this afternoon?
Well stick around because coming up are some quotes, statistics and team news, all before the main event at 17:30pm UK time.

Man Utd boss Solskjaer will be very disappointed after his side failed to keep a clean sheet at home for a ninth Premier League game in a row.
He will also be frustrated about Utd not taking opportunity to go top of the league with a win against an injury-hit Everton, who were without captain Seamus Coleman and strikers Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin.

Toffees boss Rafa Benitez will be delighted with his team’s gritty performance after they showed real character to take the game to Man Utd today, despite their injury problems.
Every player in an Everton shirt put in a real shift for their side and they currently sit in fourth place in the Prem table as a reward for their efforts.

Man Utd know that a win today would have put them in a much stronger position ahead of their upcoming games against Leicester, Liverpool, Spurs and Man City.
Solskjaer will know that a bad run in the coming month could put him under real pressure as Utd boss, meanwhile Benitez looks to be slowly winning over his doubters in the Everton fanbase.

Both sides will hope that Liverpool and Man City’s huge clash tomorrow also ends in a draw to keep them in amongst contention for top four places.

Despite getting a very creditable point against a tough opposition away from home, Andros Townsend feels his side could have gone on to get all three points on another day.
“Going into the game with the injuries that we had, we probably would have accepted a point.
“But when you go to Old Trafford and create the chances we had, we had the chance that was offside in the last few minutes, yes we’re delighted, but on another day it could have been three points.”
He also claims his SIIIIIIUUUUUUU celebration was a nod of respect to Ronaldo, who stormed straight down the tunnel in frustration after the full-time whistle.
“This guy is my idol. I grew up watching Cristiano Ronaldo, I spent hours on the training pitch trying to execute his techniques.
“Maybe should have spent longer on the celebration because it wasn’t great!
“It was a bit of respect to Cristiano and it’s an honour to be on the same field as him.”
“He’s my idol. BACK IN THE GAME
    FULL-TIME: MAN UTD 1-1 EVERTON
Anthony Martial today scored his first goal in seven appearances this season and it will surely give the Frenchman a much-needed confidence boost.
After struggling for form of late and coming under criticism for his body language and work rate, it looked like Martial’s days at Old Trafford were numbered.
But Solskjaer showed his faith in the 25-year-old by giving him a starting place ahead of Jadon Sancho and Paul Pogba and he repaid his manager with a great goal just before half-time.

    STATS DON’T LIE
    FULL-TIME: MAN UTD 1-1 EVERTON
The stats paint an accurate picture of today’s game, with Everton sitting deep and allowing Man Utd to get on the ball and try to break them down with 71.5% of the possession.
Everton defended superbly, making 20 tackles and 29 successful clearances and offering a real threat on the break with the pace and directness of Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend.
Despite having far less possession than the home side, Everton had 12 shots, only one less than Utd’s 13.
They had less of the ball, but whenever they did get it they showed a real intent to get forward and attack the goal.
The away side also defended superbly from set-pieces, with Utd unable to capitalise from ten corners.
Everton only had two offsides, with one of them being Yerry Mina’s disallowed goal.

    CHEEKY BOY
    FULL-TIME: MAN UTD 1-1 EVERTON
A very cheeky goal celebration from Andros Townsend, who drops a SSSSIIIIIUUUUUUUUUUU in front of the Everton fans at Old Trafford.
The 30-year-old has had a phenomenal start to the season at Everton and seems to be finding his best form under Rafa Benitez, having previously worked with him at Newcastle.
After joining on a free transfer from Crystal Palace, Townsend is surely one of the best signings this summer after having such a huge impact on the team in such a short space of time.

    BAD DAY AT THE OFFICE
FULL TIME: MAN UTD 1-1 EVERTON
Groans from the home fans at full-time after another disappointing performance from their team at Old Trafford.
Man Utd managed only one win in their four games in a row at Old Trafford and struggling to really hit their stride again today.
Everton were fantastic and showed real character, determination and grit to keep Utd’s attacking superstars quiet and cause their defence real problems.
Bruno Fernandes didn’t have a particularly good game today in midfield and was dealt with superbly by Allan and Doucoure.
After his missed penalty against Aston Villa last week and difficult game against Villarreal on Wednesday, Fernandes would have wanted to bounce back today with a big performance, bit it wasn’t to be.

    THAT DON’T IMPRESS ME MUCH
    FULL-TIME: MAN UTD 1-1 EVERTON
Man Utd fail to keep a clean sheet at Old Trafford once again after Andros Townsend found an equaliser in the 65th minute.
The away side thought they’d snatched a famous victory at Old Trafford through Yerry Mina, only for it to be ruled out for offside by VAR.
The Red Devils threw everything they had at Everton at the end, but ultimately it wasn’t enough and they’ll be frustrated with a draw against a depleted Everton side.
Ronaldo stormed off into the tunnel at full-time, looking absolutely furious, meanwhile Everton celebrated the point like it was a victory.
Rafa Benitez will certainly be the happier of the two managers after his side’s superb defensive performance and their potent counter-attacking threat through the brilliant Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend.
Man Utd looked like they just couldn’t quite find their top gear today and will be disappointed to have missed an opportunity to go top of the league.

86 – Goal disallowed. It was VERY tight, but VAR adjudges Mina to have been narrowly offside there. Less than half a yard. Davies has to just shoot there…

    MAN UTD 1-1 EVERTON
85 – Corner for Everton after Doucoure bursts into the box following a miscommunication between Greenwood and McTominay.
Everton knocking on the door right at the death here.
    MAN UTD 1-1 EVERTON
83 – Pogba wins his side a corner after a lovely through ball from Fernandes.
Utd getting closer in the closing stages.
Shaw finds Pogba with the corner but it’s a poor header and it goes well wide.
    MAN UTD 1-1 EVERTON
82 – CLOSE! More good play from Sancho who skins Godfrey and finds Pogba, who tries to curl one in the top corner but it doesn’t bend quite enough and goes wide.
A good effort from the Frenchman.
    MAN UTD 1-1 EVERTON
81 – The home fans are getting a little bit frustrated with their team now, who aren’t offering quite as much going forward as they might like.
There’s a lot of firepower in the Utd front line, but Everton have dealt with them superbly.
    MAN UTD 1-1 EVERTON
79 – Good move from Man Utd as Sancho runs at the Everton defence and sends Fernandes through, who tries to cut it back to Ronaldo.
It goes past him and Wan-Bissaka tries to cross it in for Fernandes, who heads it wide. He took a bang on the head as well there, but looks okay.
    MAN UTD 1-1 EVERTON
78 – Greenwood and Ronaldo combine nicely and Ronaldo makes an excellent run into the box.
Greenwood can’t quite find him and the referee’s assistant flags for offside anyway.
It’s not quite happening for Utd at the moment.
    MAN UTD 1-1 EVERTON
76 – YELLOW CARD! Doucoure is booked for a foul on Fernandes. It’s a dangerous one as he catches the Portuguese playmakers leg in a scissor movement.
Fernandes looks to be okay and Utd go again.
    MAN UTD 1-1 EVERTON
75 – CLOSE! Sancho does really well on the left wing and sends Ronaldo through on goal but the angle is very narrow.
He has a shot with his left foot and hits it with some power but it goes wide.
It gives the home fans a bit of a boost, who had started to sound a little nervous after Everton’s good spell in the last few minutes.
    MAN UTD 1-1 EVERTON
74 – Gray breaks at pace into the Man Utd box but Lindelof does really well to ferry him out for a goal kick.
Gray looks dangerous every time he gets on the ball and has caused Man Utd no end of problems today.

But the England skipper admitted aftr Mura cut the defict to 2-1 somethign needed to change.
Striker Kane told BT Sport: “The momentum shifted in their favour. It was about coming on and doing a job for the team.
“Us as players and staff need to stick together and work hard. Our recent form has not been great but we need to try to turn it round next game.
“I probably wasn’t expecting to come on today but it’s nice to get the minutes.”

Ziga Kous superbly volleyed Mura back into it on 53 minutes as they finally awoke.
So Kane, Son Heung-Min and Lucas Moura came on on the hour.
Mouran and Son provided assists for Kane’s first two strikes before the England frontman sidefooted home to complete his 16th career treble.
WEST HAM 2 RAPID VIENNA 0
Declan Rice and Said Benrahma kept up West Ham’s perfect record in Europa League Group H with this tight win.
Rice and centre-back Craig Dawson both headed off the post before the former tucked in Antonio’s cut-back on 29 minutes.
Rapid had a penalty overturned on VAR before Benrahma calmly slotted home the Hammers’ clincher in stoppage time.

    KEEP RON PUSHING US
Cristiano Ronaldo has called on the Old Trafford crowd to keep pushing Manchester United to victory.
There was a thunderous reception for Ronaldo’s winning goal against Villarreal in the last minute of injury-time of their Champions League clash on Wednesday night.
For much of the game the crowd remained quiet as United were largely outplayed by their Spanish opponents — but after Alex Telles’ 60th-minute leveller the atmosphere drove them to a winner.

Now Ronaldo has called on Red Devils supporters to back them throughout games.
He said: “Sometimes the players, we try to do our job, to play good and score goals – but sometimes it is not possible.
“The fans have this role as well when the team is in a difficult moment. They need to push us. This is why I say and ask them if they can do that.
“They give us motivation to keep going and to keep running and keep believing.
“So this is what we felt. We are so happy. A very important win and we are in a good way now.”
    ‘OBSESSED RON’
Cristiano Ronaldo spent so long on the training ground that Sir Alex Ferguson ordered him to leave because it was too close to a game.
The legendary boss feared the young Ronaldo would wear himself out perpetually practising all his trick, flicks and skills.
Nicky Butt came off when Ronaldo made his first Manchester United debut in 2003 and in the new book “Viva Ronaldo”, Butt reveals the secrets of Ronaldo’s determination to make it to the top.

Butt said: “Ronaldo was to emerge as a genius but it wasn’t just about his talents that took him right to the top.
“It is often said that certain players worked hard, stayed behind for some extra training or to practise their techniques, but with Cristiano it was total dedication, total commitment, and total hard work.
“He didn’t have a God given physique, it wasn’t given, he worked hard to achieve it. He actually came to us as a skinny, scrawny young kid, and worked hard to get that physique over many, may years.
“He had to reach a new level of physical strength because the Premier League demanded it, and he had plenty of opportunity to see at first hand how physical and tough it can be when he was up against, even in training, the likes of Roy Keane and Jaap Stam.
“We would also see him work relentlessly on his free kicks and he would tell us about something he had seen somewhere, and he wanted to perfect it, and he would work again relentlessly until he did.
“It all went beyond dedication, he was obsessed with football.”
    KALV HIS NAME WITH PRIDE
Marcelo Bielsa insists Manchester United target Kalvin Phillips would only leave Leeds if he had cemented his special bond with the club and fans.
The Red Devils have been linked with the 25-year-old as an alternative to his England midfield team-mate Declan Rice.
But it’s claimed Leeds want £60million as they hope to keep their academy graduate and have reportedly opened contract talks with him.

And Elland Road boss Bielsa said: “I’m sure the day he leaves Leeds and the way that he does it, far from provoking disappointment – of course it will generate disappointment – but it’s going to solidify his link to the club, the people and the city.
“I’m sure he would only leave if it’s guaranteed that the link to the place where he was born remains intact. He will know how to do it.”
FIORENTINA STRUGGLE TO KEEP ARSENAL TARGET DUSAN
Arsenal are on alert after Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso admitted he was struggling to agree new terms with Dusan Vlahovic.
The Gunners are tracking the striker as boss Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen up front.
The 21-year-old has caught the eye of top clubs after notching 21 goals in 37 Serie A games last term. Atletico Madrid were even reported to have had a £51 million offer for him turned down over the summer.

The Serb is under contract at Stadio Artemio Franchi until June 2023 but Commisso revealed he has been offered a new five-year deal worth £34.6 million.
Commisso said: “I don’t know if he’ll sign, let’s all just stay calm.
“We’ve been working on it for months, some days are more positive than others. I speak to Dusan and he says he’s only focussing on the pitch and I should talk to his agents, then I talk to his agents and they say I have to speak to the player.
“What I will say is that this would be the highest salary ever given to a Fiorentina player, including Gabriel Batistuta and Manuel Rui Costa.
“I told Dusan that he is taking a huge risk not signing this deal. We are offering him a five-year contract worth €40m.
“I had to work a whole year to earn what he would in two or three days. I don’t know how football reached this stage.”
    SPURS ‘WATCH JOHNSTONE’
Tottenham are reportedly keen on West Brom’s England keeper Sam Johnstone.
Football Insider claim Spurs scouts watched Johnstone play Preston last week.
And it’s suggested are putting together a file on the 28-year-old.

    VIOLENCE FLARES AT WEST HAM
Rapid Vienna fans tried to storm the West Ham section of the crowd as violence broke out in the Europa League clash at the London Stadium, writes DUNCAN WRIGHT.
The Austrian supporters reacted to Declan Rice firing the Hammers into a 28th minute lead by jumping the barriers and trying to get amongst the home fans.
Trouble had been simmering between the two sections grouped in the corner of the ground from before kick off.
    TRENT MISSES CITY CLASH
Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has been ruled out of the leaders’ home Premier League clash with Manchester City on Sunday.
TAA missed Tuesday’s 5-1 Champions League win over FC Porto with a muscle issue.
Now boss Jurgen Klopp has now confirmed Alexander-Arnold, 22, will be missing until after England’s World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Hungary next month.
Meanwhile, Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara is recovering from a calf injury.
Klopp said: “No ‘news’ means they are doing well but they won’t have enough time for being back against City, but I expect them both to be back after the international break.
“But we have a good team so we still have solutions and we have to use them and yeah, after the international break the boys will be back I think.”
Alexander-Arnold has suffered a string of recent injury blows having missed England’s Euro 2020 campaign with a thigh injury.
FIFA WANT WORLD CUP CHANGE SORTED THIS YEAR
Fifa want Arsene Wenger’s plan for a World Cup every two years voted through by the end of 2021, writes MARTIN LIPTON.
Ex-Arsenal boss Wenger formally presented his proposals to 204 of the 211 national associations at a virtual meeting from Zurich.
Despite strong opposition led by Uefa and European clubs and leagues,
FIFA President Gianni Infantino claimed he was embarking on the “most inclusive and thorough consultation process that the world of football has ever seen on a global basis”.
Infantino told supporters and opponents: “FIFA has one event that lasts one month every four years that is helping to develop football in 211 member associations.
“Our ambitions for football development across the entire world can only be realised if we have more successful events taking place on a more regular basis.”
Wenger and former US women’s coach Jill Ellis outlined plans for the shape of men’s, women’s and youth football.
But despite the criticism, FIFA announced a “comprehensive report” would be published in November, “before a global summit will be staged before the end of the year”.
Infantino added: “We have the opportunity to shape football history, to look forward, to learn from the past, and to design the future because our vision is to make football truly global.
“But we will only make changes if it benefits everyone.
“No-one should be a loser in this, everyone should be better off at the end of the day. “Otherwise there is no reason to change anything, if the global world of football and everyone in it is not better off. We are aware of the different challenges that this brings.”
    LEGIA WARSAW 1 LEICESTER 0
Mahir Emreli left Leicester still winless in the Europa League this season by firing Legia’s 31st-minute clincher.
The Foxes underlined their mediocre start to the season as they created chances but little fluency.
And they are struggling to get through from Group C, having drawn 2-2 at Napoli in their opener.
Ayoze Perez drilled wide before the break and Jannik Vestergaard saw his four-yard header somehow kept out by Legia keeper Cezary Miszta in the second half.

    CHEAP CLARET
Burnley shirts are the cheapest in the Premier League while Tottenham fans are forced to cough up £25 more for a replica shirt.
Clarets supporters appear to get the best value, while Spurs, Chelsea and Liverpool followers pay more than 50 PER CENT extra.
Burnley’s £45 shirt is the best value in England’s top flight with Brentford (£48), Crystal Palace (£50), Norwich (£50) and Brighton £52 completing the cheapest five list.

TELL IT LIKE IT IS ON RONALDO
Manchester United left-back Alex Telles revealed Cristiano Ronaldo was frustrated and “upset” before he sunk Villarreal in stoppage time.
The Brazil star told TNT Sports: “Off the pitch, we already have this closer relationship because we speak Portuguese.

“And five minutes before he was a little upset that we didn’t get any balls to him.
“I said ‘it will arrive, it will arrive, stay concentrated because it will arrive’. And as soon as I went off, Ronaldo doesn’t need much, right?
“We know his quality, we see it on a daily basis. So it only took one ball in the box and he gave us the victory. It’s a dream.”
    SPIT CLAIMS PROBED
Crystal Palace are “reviewing a handful of incidents” after their fans allegedly spat at Brighton players leaving the pitch at Selhurst Park.
Coins and drinks were also said to have been thrown at Albion stars after Monday evening’s thrilling Prem encounter, Mail Online are reporting.
The clash reached boiling point after Neal Maupay’s injury-time equaliser for the Seagulls denied the hosts a win they thought they deserved.

Online footage taken from TV coverage shows Brighton players in heated exchanges with home fans before being ushered to their changing room.
Palace have now addressed the accusations and said action will be taken against individuals if necessary.
An Eagles spokesperson told football.london: “Monday night’s match was a fantastic, lively derby with an incredible atmosphere.
“It had a dramatic ending and emotions were running high among both sets of supporters.
“We are reviewing a handful of incidents and, if we find evidence of unacceptable behaviour, we will take necessary action.”
    ONE MILL FOR GIL
Chelsea’s Billy Gilmour could earn £500,000 a YEAR plugging brands on Instagram, claim experts.
The 20-year-old midfielder, on loan at Norwich, has amassed one million followers and is being tipped to cash in.

Blues prodigy Gilmour is now set to be signed up by top firms as an influencer on social media.
Tom Stride, a sports image rights expert, said: “His income will depend on how often he posts and the brands that want to work with him.
“But say once per week and we’re looking at half a million pounds per year and his profile will likely grow over time.
“Recent research states that for every 40-50,000 followers, influencers are expecting around £500 per post.
“Multiply this out for athletes with rapidly growing fanbases like Billy Gilmour, and you can see why social media is extremely attractive.”
    LOK AWAY NOW
Albert Lokonga “felt humiliated” as he sat on the bench while Man City thrashed his new Arsenal team-mates at the start of the season.
The midfielder watched on in embarrassment as the Gunners were smashed 5-0 by the reigning champions back in August.

And Lokonga, 21, admits he felt humiliated after being left out following his move to the Emirates from Anderlecht in the summer.
He told Sport Foot magazine: “I don’t know, I didn’t talk to the coach about it. You would have to ask him
“In any case, on the bench, I felt humiliated. Exactly as if I was in the field. Many have talked about the statistic of 81 per cent second-half possession for City.
“We often forget to say that we were also reduced to ten men since the 35th minute and the red card of Granit Xhaka at that time.”
Boss Mikel Arteta set about rebuilding his squad over the summer with Lokonga joined by other new arrivals such as Martin Odegaard, Ben White and Aaron Ramsdale.
A shocking start to the season has made way to positive results – notably the 3-1 derby victory over bitter rivals Tottenham.
    RON THE SHORTLIST
Manchester United have nominated David De Gea, Cristiano Ronaldo, Mason Greenwood and regular sub Jesse Lingard for their September player-of-the-year award.
Ronaldo went to five goals since his shock return from Juventus with last night’s stoppage-time winner against Villarreal.
And De Gea is on the list especially for his last-gasp penalty save to preserve victory at West Ham.
United’s media team said: “De Gea and Ronaldo are outstanding candidates for the trophy and our panel could not split Academy graduates Mason Greenwood and Jesse Lingard for the third slot so both are included in our poll.”
    MONEY FOR NOTHING
Willian has admitted he was ‘unhappy’ at Arsenal and left because ‘there are some things money can’t buy’.
The 33-year-old Brazilian’s ill-fated spell at the Emirates began in August 2020, when he signed from rivals Chelsea on a three-year deal, after making 339 appearances for the Blues over seven years at the club.

But after just one season and 37 appearances for the Gunners, Willian cut his stay in north London short and parted ways with Arsenal by mutual consent in August 2021.
He then rejoined boyhood club Corinthians, after leaving aged 19 in 2007 to join Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donestk, having come through the Brazilian club’s academy.
The 70-cap Brazil international told Brazilian sports TV programme Arena SBT: “My year at Arsenal was a bit complicated. I really couldn’t adapt to the club. I wasn’t happy there.
“To make it very clear too, it wasn’t the club that wanted me to leave. I wanted to leave the club. I expressed my feeling, said I wasn’t happy.
“I said I wanted to look elsewhere, another place to play. And so there was this decision to leave.
“There are things in life that money can’t buy, money doesn’t pay for.
“You have joy, happiness, peace, a solid family. I think this is the most important thing for me.”

    ENGLAND SQUAD RECAP
Gareth Southgate has announced his England squad for the upcoming fixtures against Andorra and Hungary.
Goalkeepers: Sam Johnstone, Jordan Pickford, Aaron Ramsdale.
Defenders: Conor Coady, Reece James, Tyrone Mings, Luke Shaw, John Stones, Fikayo Tomori, Kieran Trippier, Kyle Walker.
Midfielders: Phil Foden, Jordan Henderson, Jesse Lingard, Mason Mount, Kalvin Phillips, Declan Rice.
Forwards: Jack Grealish, Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, Jadon Sancho, Raheem Sterling, Ollie Watkins.
    JADON SANCH-WOE… STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
Jadon Sancho has gone from assist king and useful goal-grabber for Borussia Dortmund to blank stats since his £73million summer arrival at Manchester United.
The England winger, 21, has yet to score or register an assist in his eight United games this season.
OptaJoe point out he notched five goals and five assists in his final eight matches for Dortmund.

    SPAIN RECALL ALONSO
Marcos Alonso is back in the Spain squad after THREE YEARS out.
In-form Alonso has kept the Chelsea left-back spot ahead of England’s Ben Chilwell this season.

But the 30-year-old won the last of his three caps in a 3-2 Nations League defeat by England in October 2018.
Now a mini injury crisis has opened the door for a return to the national side.
Regulars Alvaro Morata, Gerard Moreno and Thiago Alcantara are out while PSG new boy Sergio Ramos is yet to recover from a thigh strain.
Spain face Italy in the Nations League semi-finals next Wednesday.
And there was also a surprise place in the 23-man squad for Barcelona’s Gavi.
    KIT MONEY TO BURN
Burnley shirts are the cheapest in the Premier League while Tottenham fans are forced to cough up £25 more for a replica shirt.
Clarets supporters appear to get the best value, while Spurs, Chelsea and Liverpool followers pay more than 50 PER CENT extra.
Burnley’s £45 shirt is the best value in England’s top flight with Brentford (£48), Crystal Palace (£50), Norwich (£50) and Brighton £52 completing the cheapest five list.

WHY I AXED JUDE AND GREENWOOD
Gareth Southgate admits axing England’s teen whizkids Jude Bellingham will surprise many – but is worried about “overloading” them.
Borussia Dortmund midfielder Bellingham, 18, and 19-year-old Manchester United striker Greenwood have begun the season brightly.
Southgate, though, said: “They don’t come as a pair but they are in similar situations. They are young players with a heavy load.
“I have spoken to both players. Jude has had a high level of matches. He is playing Champions League, Bundesliga.
“We have to remember these lads are still physically growing.
“We think they can be exciting players for the future but we don’t want to overload them.
“I can understand why people may raise their eyes.”
    OLLIE GOOD ATTITUDE
Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate praised recalled striker Ollie Watkins’ attitude.
Aston Villa’s three-cap striker, 25, only missed out on the England squad early this month through injury.
And Southgate said: “He was close to making the squad for the Euros. He is still close to getting back to full fitness. I love his mentality.”

That’s it from us tonight. Thanks for keeping up with our live coverage of Spurs vs Mura at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Europa Conference League.
After no wins in their last five games and a dreadful performance against Arsenal at the weekend, this is exactly what Spurs needed to hit the reset button and turn their season around.
    Credit: PA
A superb opening ten minutes followed by a brilliant second half performance following the introductions of Kane, Son and Moura will give the whole club a much needed boost.
Though this result does not take away their last three Premier League defeats, it will give Spurs the confidence to take the game to Aston Villa on Sunday.
    Credit: Reuters
They showed a great deal more creativity and fluidity to their play in the last half an hour tonight than in their last five matches combined and that’s what Nuno will want to see more of going forward.
Hat-trick hero Harry Kane will be delighted to have finally found his shooting boots and will go into Sunday’s clash hungry for more, still needing to break his duck in this season’s Premier League.

We hope you enjoyed our live coverage of this highly entertaining European tie. See you next time.
    RELIEF
You can see exactly how much that hat-trick meant to Harry Kane, who will feel more relief than anything else.
It’ll be exactly the confidence boost he and the team will have needed ahead of their big clash with Aston Villa at the weekend.

    STANDINGS
Spurs’ big win tonight puts them in a great position at the top of Group G, ahead of Rennes on goal difference.
Tottenham travel away to Vitesse on 21st October after the international break for their next game in the Europa Conference League.

    ELSEWHERE…
Some fascinating ties tonight in the Europa Conference League with Rennes coming from behind to beat Vitesse 2-1.
Feyenoord narrowly got the better of Slavia Praha in Rotterdam and a big win for Union Berlin against Maccabi Haifa.

    CREATIVE SPARK
Tonight was a huge night for Lo Celso, who did everything in his power to state his case for a starting position against Villa on Sunday.
There was a distinct lack of imagination to Spurs’ play against Arsenal at the weekend, with Dele in particular struggling to unlock the Gunners’ backline in a creative role.
Nuno will have seen the kind of attacking threat Spurs can offer with Kane, Son and Moura up front and Lo Celso given creative license in midfield to open up defences and create chances.

    MAKE IT A HABIT
Harry Kane scored his 16th career hat-trick tonight and becomes the first player to score a hat-trick in the Champions League, Europa League and the Europa Conference League.
After his barren run in the Premier League, he’ll go into Sunday’s tie against Aston Villa with bit more confidence and momentum than before and will be desperate to find the back of the net again.
    Credit: Reuters
    CONSOLATION
Mura might have been thrashed on the night, but Ziga Kous scored a goal he will never forget against Spurs, with an absolutely sumptuous volley.
They’ll go back to Slovenia a little deflated after losing by such a big margin, but if you’re going to score past one of the biggest teams in the tournament, this is the way to do it.

    FULL-TIME: SPURS 5-1 MURA
Nuno will breathe a huge sigh of relief after a nervy ten minutes at the start of the second half where it looked like Mura might be able to find a way back.
The Portuguese turned to his trusted front three, who delivered the goods and then some.
He would have preferred not to have needed them, but after earning a confidence boosting 5-1 plus a hat-trick for misfiring striker Harry Kane, he’ll be delighted with the night’s work.
He might be slightly disappointed that Spurs’ starting XI couldn’t get it done on their own, with Dane Scarlett and Bryan Gil both struggling to impose themselves on the game.
Dele had a good first half after scoring his penalty and Gio Lo Celso was superb throughout, showing the kind of creative spark he was signed for back in 2019.
    PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPP!!!!!!

90 – Three minutes added on. Spurs looked a little bit nervous after coming out for the second half, but the mood inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has well and truly changed now.
The fans are singing and have clearly enjoyed this second half performance from their team, who have shown exactly what they can do when they reach full flow.
    SPURS 5-1 MURA
87 – Mura thought they’d gotten themselves back in it when they scored in the 53rd minute, but the introduction of Spurs’ big guns put this. oneto bed very quickly.
Harry Kane scored a hat-trick in less than 20 minutes and Lo Celso has been absolutely spectacular in his creative role in midfield.
Some of the passes from the Argentine, including the one for that assist for, Kane have been outrageous.

84 – Spurs looking very comfortable now and it’s got more of a training ground exercise feel to it, with the home side putting some lovely passing moves together and making it incredibly difficult for Mura.
Nuno will be quite happy for his side to just keep the ball moving and see this one out without anyone getting injured or over-exerting themselves.

81 – Mura really haven’t been able to get on the ball and get into the Spurs half to create a meaningful chance in this last 20 minutes.
Spurs fans are willing their team to score more and are demanding that they shoot whenever they’re even remotely close to the Mura goal.

It was a slick, free-flowing attacking move that sliced through Mura in one fell swoop for Spurs’ fourth.
More the kind of football Spurs fans were hoping to see tonight.

    SPURS 2-1 MURA
65 – It’s absolutely tipping it down at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the surface is really nice and slick now.
Kane takes an early free-kick from inside the opposition half to catch out the Mura backline and Son is almost found in the box but for a good interception from the Mura keeper.
    Close from Spurs there.
