    HAMILTON TAKES POLE
He starts P1 in Qatar tomorrow.

VERSTAPPEN HAS TO SETTLE FOR SECOND
Pierre Gasly has a terrifying blowout and stops on the finish line. It means Verstappen slows down, not that he was able to better Hamilton’s time by the looks of the lap.

    YELLOW FLAGS
They have slowed the progress of the final runs…
    STONKING LAP FROM HAMILTON
That is even quicker, mega job from the Brit.
    HAMILTON IS GOING EVEN QUICKER
He is looking to take this pole comfortably.
    HAMILTON TAKES PROVISIONAL POLE
Verstappen only has enough for second after their first runs.
The gap is 0.162 seconds. Bottas in third but Gasly in P4 is a mega effort.
Especially when Perez was eliminated from Q2.

Q3 IS GO – THE FIGHT FOR POLE BEGINS
What can Verstappen do to stop this Mercedes pressure?
    ELIMINATED FROM Q2
Russell, Riccardo, Leclerc, Stroll and Perez are all knocked out and fail to make it into the top 10.
Both Alpines and both AlphaTauris are in to the top 10.

    BLOW FOR RED BULL
Perez is eliminated from Q2. That’s a big shock for the Mexican. It also means it is a big problem for their strategy in the race, as he will not offer any help to Verstappen.
He was also on the soft tyres, which were supposed to the be quickest.
    BIG DAY IN QATAR TOMORROW
It marks one year until the FIFA World Cup Finals start in the country.
FIFA boss Gianni Infantino is here today meeting FIA President, Jean Todt.
    Q2 IS GO
Busy track already. Hamilton and Bottas are both on track.

Q1 IS DONE – USUAL SUSPECTS GIVEN THE BOOT
Mazepin, Schumacher, Giovinazzi, Latifi and Raikkonen are out. Russell makes it into the Q2 knockout.

    LECLERC SCRAPES INTO Q2
The Ferrari man just makes it into the top 15.
    EARLY PACE FROM HAMILTON
He leads the session and heads Verstappen. Still a long way to go.
Mazepin, Ocon, Alonso, Schuamcher and Giovinazzi are currently in the drop zone.

GREEN LIGHT – QUALIFYING IS GO IN QATAR
Hamilton verses Verstappen. Take your seats, this is going to be interesting. Merc clearly have had the quicker car all weekend, but were Red Bull keeping their powder dry?
Also, remember these is that threat looming of a Red Bull protests.

    BUTTON ON RUSSELL
Jenson Button opened up about George Russell’s performances for Williams.
Button, who is also a senior advisor at Williams, said: “They’ve been struggling with the balance of the car.
“So George has not been able to bring it out on a Saturday, which is a shame.
“Hopefully he will this weekend because it’s a little bit more about qualifying than the race”
    BRUNDLE ON RUSSELL
Formula One great Martin Brundle was critical of Williams star George Russell.
Russell has three races left until he teams up with fellow Brit Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes.
Brundle told Sky Sports: “He’s been a bit anonymous, lately in the races.
“It’s not been going that well”
    BRUNDLE REACTS
Formula One legend Martin Brundle discussed Mercedes and Red Bull’s rivalry, which he described as “personal”.
Brundle told Sky Sports: “It’s getting personal, without doubt.
“The pressure is on, on and off the track, there’s pointing fingers all over the place, and I think it’s just a question of how close the drivers are and how close the cars are.
    “Unsurprisingly, the tension is rising”
    MAZEPIN SITUATION
Haas star Nikita Mazepin’s race was over before it even started.
Mazepin missed Q2 due to a chassis change and his Haas mechanics wheeled him back into the garage

    FLAT BUT NOT OUT
Ferrari star Charles Leclerc went spinning during Turn 2.
Leclerc suffered tyre issues but didn’t have any other problems as he finished the third practice session

    RESULTS
A strong showing by Mercedes in the third practice run in Qatar.
Valtteri Bottas finished first with team-mate Lewis Hamilton behind him in second.
Red Bull rival Max Verstappen made it third with his partner Sergio Perez in fifth.
Pierre Gassly is fourth in between the Red Bull stars.
    More below:

FP3 IS DONE – BOTTAS TOPS THE SESSION
The Finn is 0.078 seconds quicker than Hamilton, it is close.
Verstappen is 0.341 seconds off the pace. Not a huge gap, but again it proves the Mercedes is again the faster car.
    Qualifying up next.
    SPINS FOR LECLERC AND SCHUMACHER
Some struggling out there in the final few minutes of practice.

THREE WAY FIGHT AT THE TOP
Bottas v Hamilton v Verstappen – this is shaping up to be another fantastic fight.

    BOTTAS TOPS THE SESSION
However, here are the fastest sector times. It is close in Doha

Eddie Howe to MISS first Newcastle game, Chelsea ‘in Fofana transfer talks’, Haaland ‘chooses Premier League’ switch

EDDIE HOWE will MISS his first game as Newcastle manager this weekend after testing positive for Covid-19.Howe will instead be conducting team talks from his hotel room on FaceTime as the Magpies host Brentford.
Newcastle are also putting their January transfer plans into place, with reports linking them to Inter’s Marcelo Brozovic and Bayern Munich’s Niklas Sule.
Meanwhile, Erling Haaland might be out of action injured at the moment – but that is not stopping speculation about his future.
A number of Premier League clubs are said to be circling the Dortmund superstar, with reports from Spain suggested Real Madrid are expecting him to head to England next.
Chelsea have been handed a boost with Romelu Lukaku returning to training from his recent injury, putting him in contention for a return to action this weekend.
And the Blues have resumed talks with Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana ahead of a potential summer transfer, reports say.

    TIME TO CHIL
Brendan Rodgers hopes Ben Chilwell is welcomed back by Leicester fans today — but knows there can be ‘needle’ when a key player decides to leave.
The left-back quit the King Power Stadium to join Chelsea 15 months ago in a £50million deal.

And Foxes fans booed him during the FA Cup Final last May — which Rodgers’ side won after Chilwell had a last-gasp equaliser for Blues ruled out by the VAR.
He returned to Leicester last season with no fans in the ground.
But today is set to be back for the first time in front of a crowd.
England defender Chilwell, 24, upset some fans with comments made after completing his move.
Rodgers said: “There certainly wasn’t any animosity between us, he was a young player that came through the system here, and he ended up playing for the first team.
“He decided to move on, and the club did very well as a result in terms of his fee.
“It’s difficult, players leave, and there can be a little bit of needle around that.”
    ARTETA: AIM HIGHER THAN FOURTH
Mikel Arteta challenged Arsenal to aim higher than just a top-four spot as they look to end their Liverpool nightmare on Saturday.
The Gunners boss believes there is a new spirit of optimism sweeping through the club as a result of his mass Emirates clear-out.

Arteta was still playing when Arsenal last won a league game at Anfield in September 2012.
Since then they have managed just two points from eight games and conceded 28 times.
But now they go to Merseyside defending a ten-match unbeaten run and cautiously optimistic about challenging for Champions League qualification again.
Arteta said: “For me it is positive when people speak about getting into the top four. It means there is excitement and that people want to push us.
“But this club is about being the best, not even about being fourth. That history has to be there all the time, giving us the drive and mentality to achieve the biggest targets.
“If you don’t have that mentality, you cannot play for this club. The level of expectation always has to be the highest.”
    VILLA FANS FORGIVE GERRARD
Aston Villa fans are ready to end their 20-year vendetta against Steven Gerrard according to Vital Villa Fans’ Site Editor, Jonathan Fear, writes GRAEME BRYCE.
Gerrard has been public enemy No.1 at Villa Park for two decades, hated and hounded by the Holte End who refused to forgive him for an over-the-ball tackle on George Boateng – when he was a feisty 21-year-old.
Although Gerrard’s apology was accepted by the Dutchman at the time – and he was punished with a red card and three-match ban – Villa fans have never pardoned him for his ‘crime.’
In his 2006 best-seller: Gerrard, The Autobiography, Gerrard wrote:  “The Holte End hate me.
“Ever since the Boateng foul, I get serenaded with ‘Steven Gerrard is a w*****’ whenever I play at Villa Park.”
However, Fear predicts Gerrard will receive a hero’s welcome when he takes charge of Villa for the first time against Brighton tomorrow (Saturday) after making a positive first impression since replacing Dean Smith earlier this week.
He said: “Once someone’s named Aston Villa manager they have done no wrong in their history.
“If he hadn’t been named our manager then of course he’s done no right in his history!
“The Gerrard we used to abuse was the player and we know as a player he was a winner. He was the same as Roy Keane – not liked by opposing fans because you secretly wanted him in your team.
“Since becoming our manager Steven Gerrard has said all the right things so far – now he just has to do all the right things!!
    RIO: UTD NEED JUDE
Rio Ferdinand has urged Manchester United to do ‘what ever it takes’ to sign England wonderkid Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund.
Midfielder Bellingham,18, has already been linked with a summer switch to Old Trafford.
And United legend Ferdinand believes the former Birmingham hero is the ideal player for now and especially the future.
    RICH REWARDS FOR BRAVERY
Everton star Richarlison has been playing injured with injections to numb the pain and even showed up for international duty with a broken rib.
The forward had a busy summer after a tough Premier League season as he represented Brazil in the Copa America and then the Tokyo Olympics, which took their toll on his fitness.
The 24-year-old revealed he had to take shots before games ever since the Olympic quarter-finals to deal with the “wear and tear” his knee had suffered.
That is why the Toffees favourite decided to miss the last two World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina, even though he has powered through the pain in the past by playing with an injured ankle and broken rib.
    RONALDO RALLYING CALL
Cristiano Ronaldo has urged Manchester United to dig deep to get back on track.
The Red Devils return to Premier League action at Watford tomorrow after six losses in 12 games.
And the United legend posted on social media: “Time to roll up the sleeve once again and just get the job done!
“Let’s chase what we are trying to achieve this season.”

HOWE MISSES FIRST TOON GAME WITH COVID
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe will miss his first match in charge of the club after testing positive for coronavirus.
The 43-year-old was preparing for his first game since succeeding Steve Bruce at St James’ Park.
But he will have to wait at least another week after contracting Covid-19, with his Magpies assistant head coaches Gareme Jones and Jason Tindall to be in charge for the clash against Brentford in his absence.

A statement from Newcastle confirmed that the ex-Bournemouth gaffer will now self-isolate in line with the government government guidelines.
Speaking to the club’s website, Howe expressed his disappointment at missing out on being in the dugout for Saturday’s fixture.
He said: “I’m very disappointed that I won’t be there with you all at St. James’ Park tomorrow.
“But it is incredibly important that I follow the guidelines and self-isolate.
“I’d like to reassure everyone that I feel fine, and while this is unwelcome news for me, I know it hasn’t derailed our preparations for what is an important game.
“I have been, and will be, in constant communication with my coaching team and the players, both tomorrow and during the week, and I know they will be giving everything on and off the pitch.”
    OGBONNA BLOW FOR HAMMERS
West Ham striker Angelo Ogbonna is likely to be sidelined for the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury.
Hammers boss David Moyes confirmed that Ogbonna will go under the knife in the next few days and may not play again until next term.
The centre-back sustained the injury during the east Londoners’ 3-2 victory over Liverpool at the London Stadium two weeks ago and is estimated to be out for nine months.
Moyes said: “Surgery will take place over the next couple days.
“It’s really sad because he’s a great player. I think it would be hard for Angelo to be back this season.”
Ogbonna was initially substituted during the match with the Reds due to a cut above his eye but subsequently felt discomfort in his knee on the bench.
A scan the following day revealed the Italian suffered ACL damage.
According to The Athletic, West Ham will extend the 33-year-old’s contract, which expires in the summer, to aid in his recovery.
    BALE ABUSED
Gareth Bale was abused by a small group of Real Madrid fans at the club’s training ground on Friday.
And one furious Real supporter appeared to throw a marker pen at Bale’s car window with cries of ‘F*** you’ heard as he was leaving the Valdebebas facility.
A group of Real Madrid fans abuse and throw pen at Gareth Bale at the club’s training ground
Bale returned from international duty with Wales with another injury and that appears to have angered a section of the Bernabeu support.
The 32-year-old has a calf injury which he sustained on his 100th cap against Belarus last Saturday and is set to be out for at least three weeks.
Bale missed the 1-1 draw with Belgium as Robert Page’s side clinched a home World Cup play-off semi-final in March.
The forward has not played for Real since the end of August after a severe hamstring injury sustained in training with his club.
Pundits in Spain have been angry with Wales captain Bale for appearing to put his country ahead of his club.
Bale wound up the Real supporters in 2019 after the Dragons qualified for Euro 2020 by holding up the flag which read: “Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order.”

RON CAN BE THE BOSS – BUT NOT YET
Cristiano Ronaldo has shown all the hallmarks of a manager but has no chance of succeeding Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
That’s the verdict of Liverpool legend Ian Rush, who believes the United striker’s touchline antics with Portugal show his passion to direct the play from off as well as on the pitch.

United visit Watford on Saturday after six defeats in 12 games immediately before the international break.
And Leicester chief Brendan Rodgers is odds-on favourite for Old Trafford if under-pressure Solskjaer departs.
The Norwegian has insisted he is no quitter and believes he will turn the Red Devils around.
But Solskjaer is odds-on to be the next Premier League manager axed and Ronaldo, 36, has risen up the list of contenders to replace him.
Rush said: “I do see him as a leader. “But unless he has Sir Alex Ferguson alongside him I don’t see him managing Manchester United any time soon.
“We kind of got a glimpse of Ronaldo as a manager when Portugal won the Euros in 2016, when he had to go off injured.
“He was so passionate on the touchline, barking orders and motivating the team, and maybe we saw the makings of a manager there.
“We know he’s very demanding which you need to be as a manager, and he does like to have control of things too.
“But to manage a big club like Manchester United you need proper managerial experience and that’s why I don’t buy into the story of him replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.”
POGBA STARTS CLOCK ON UTD RETURN
Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is working hard towards making his return from injury.
The 28-year-old star has taken to social media once again to update United fans on his progress after suffering a thigh injury while on France duty.

Pogba posted a picture on his Instagram story of himself stretching out his thigh as he continued his warm-weather training in Dubai.
And he simply captioned the picture ‘tic-tac’ – French for ‘tick-tock’ – with an hourglass emoji.
The midfielder is counting down the days until he can make his Manchester United return.
He is currently out in Dubai after jetting out to complete the first phase of his rehabilitation programme for the injury that could keep him out for two months.
United confirmed the news on Wednesday in a statement that read: “Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has travelled to Dubai to undertake the next phase of his rehabilitation in warm weather conditions.
“The 28-year-old reported for international duty with France at the beginning of last week and unfortunately suffered an injury while training.
“Pogba is now working diligently on his rehabilitation.”
    UTD’S BACK PAIN IS OFFICIAL
Manchester United’s defending has left a lot to be desired this season, with the Red Devils having the seventh-worst defence in the Premier League.
The club have kept just four clean sheets in 14 Prem games and ex-Liverpool man John Barnes believes it’s because they don’t defend ‘as a complete team’.
When it comes to total tackles (139) and duels won (468), United rank BOTTOM of all Premier League clubs.

And they’re the second worst in the league for aerial duels won (130) and interceptions (81).
Manchester United’s 17 goals conceded and two clean sheets make up a small amount of dignity, but both stats are still the joint-seventh worst in the league.
And they can count themselves lucky it’s only the seventh worst, with their expected goals conceded the fifth worse out of the 20 Prem teams.
The lack of desire to win the ball back is also clear, with United making the fourth-least ball recoveries (606) out of anybody this campaign.
Error strewn performances from the likes of club captain Harry Maguire mean the club have also made seven mistakes leading to shots – the second worst in the league.
Three of those have come from Maguire himself, with Luke Shaw contributing two.
Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, David De Gea and Nemanja Matic are all guilty of one error leading to an opposition shot too.
    DANI’S GR-EIGHT TRIBUTE
Dani Alves has picked the number eight shirt on his return to Barcelona as a tribute to his friends and a former team-mate.
It will be the FIFTH different number the Brazilian has worn during his time at the Nou Camp.
The Brazilian, 38, could not opt for the standard number for a right-back – two – because that already belongs to Sergino Dest.

But with the No8 available due to Miralem Pjanic’s summer departure, Alves decided it would be a fitting tribute to a Barca icon – Andres Iniesta.
He told Barca TV: “I think there are tributes that must be made in life.
“I’m friends with Andres Iniesta and Hristo Stoichkov. I called Andres and told him it would be an honour to wear it and he told me that it was in my hands.
“It’s a great honour and must be carried with respect. It’s very special to me.”
Alves frequently pays tribute to friends and team-mates with his number choice.
    TOL-ENHAM HOTSPUR?
Tottenham have been offered the chance to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Corentin Tolisso, according to reports.
The Frenchman is set to be out of contract with the Bundesliga champions next summer.
His chances of an extension appear to be dwindling, having started only one league match this term under Julian Nagelsmann.
And according to Kicker, Tolisso is being ‘touted’ to Spurs.
To sign the World Cup winner, however, Antonio Conte‘s side will have to beat off competition from one of his former clubs.
The report also claims that Inter Milan are being offered Tolisso’s services.
He joined Bayern from Lyon in 2017, winning the World Cup as part of Didier Deschamps’ 23-man France squad a year later.
But his time since has been blighted with injuries.
    POWERING THROUGH
Everton star Richarlison has been playing injured with injections to numb the pain and even showed up for international duty with a broken rib.
    HAMMER BLOW
West Ham ace Angelo Ogbonna is likely to be sidelined for the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury.
    ABIDAL ‘AFFAIR’
Eric Abidal’s wife has filed for a divorce after he admitted to having an affair with Paris Saint-Germain star Kheira Hamraoui, according to reports.
Prior to joining PSG, Hamraoui, 31, played for Barcelona while Abidal was sporting director.
She was attacked earlier this month, with thugs beating her with an iron bar.
Investigators into the attack initially held Hamraoui’s team-mate Aminata Diallo for questioning for 36 hours.
But they have reportedly since moved their inquiry away from Diallo.
A connection with Abidal was discovered by detectives, after it came to light that Hamraoui’s phone was registered in the Frenchman’s name.
It was this development that led to Abidal admitting to an affair with Hamraoui, wife Hayet claims.
In a statement sent to AFP by Hayet’s lawyer Nicolas Cellupica, she alleges that he admitted ‘to an adulterous relationship with Ms Hamraoui’.
    MOST BACKED
More bets have been taken on Manchester United to win the Premier League title than any other top-flight team, according to Betfair.
Despite struggling in recent weeks, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have been backed more than Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool for 2021-22 glory.
he Red Devils are anchored in sixth position and trail leaders Chelsea by nine points having won just ONE of their last SIX.
But clearly punters think a drastic change of fortunes could be just around the corner with 19 per cent of all bets placed going for the Old Trafford heavyweights.
United were available at 8/1 to wrestle the title away from City at the beginning of the campaign.
However, they can now be backed at a whopping 109/1 on Betfair Exchange, despite boasting one of the strongest squads in the division.
Pep Guardiola’s side are currently the favourites to retain the title at 8/11.
Despite not having the most amount of bets placed on them, they are the team with the most money wagered on them, at £2.2million.
Chelsea and Liverpool are the next most popular at 14 per cent and 13 per cent respectively.
    SEARCHING FOR MAUR
Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino has hit back at claims his side have no identity and labelled Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea a ‘defensive’ team.
The French outfit are already 10 points clear at the top of the Ligue 1 table with just 13 games played.
But the lack of a style of play from Pochettino’s men has still led some to critique their performances.
However, the Argentine does not understand that assessment of his team.
When asked why they do not appear to have an identity, he told L’Equipe: “I say this with a lot of respect, but this question translates into a certain lack of respect
“It is like saying that you have no style in your writing.
“Of course you have one, you are professional and that is why you are sat here.
“Every manager, at the highest level and down to amateur, has a style.
“When you work to become a manager, you develop your style: your tastes, your management, your methods with you staff.
“We are a staff who have a defined style, a philosophy, ideas. Aside from that, the question is to know how and at what moment you can put on show what truly corresponds with you.
“And that, that depends on the demands of the club, like we were talking about earlier on.
“If you look at what I have done at Espanyol, Southampton or Tottenham, you will see the style of play that we like.
“If you watch a match from our first and one from our third season at Tottenham, it is not the same thing. Because there was a strategy to get to this point.”
    CONT SHOWER
Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has suggested Tanguy Ndombele needs to become more of a team player and warned him he has to work “much more” than others.
Ndombele joined Spurs two years ago following a club record £53.8million deal with Lyon but has struggled to shine under Conte’s predecessors Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho and Nuno Espirito Santo.
he Italian head coach admits the midfielder has talent but suggested he needs to show more team spirit.
The former Chelsea manager hasn’t given up on the Frenchman yet but insists he has to work harder than his team-mates to catch up on his demands.
Conte said: “Yeah, I have seen that many managers struggle about this situation, about the position.
“For sure Tanguy has the quality. At the same time he has to understand that there is a team and he has to play into the team.
“I think it means that it is important to keep order and to do what the position asks you to do.
“For sure with Tanguy we are working. We are working very hard. He has to work much more than the others, because as you say he has talent but he has to put this talent into the team for the best of the team, not for the single player.”
    HEY JESSE
Jesse Lingard looks to be on his way to West Ham in the New Year in a £10million move.
The Manchester United midfielder has already begun making personal arrangements for the permanent move back to the capital.
The England international rejected a new contract offer in early September at United and has barely figured in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans recently.
Lingard enjoyed a successful loan spell at the high flying West Ham in the second half of last season.
His nine goals and five assists in the Premier League helped propel David Moyes side into Europe.
Moyes wanted to sign Lingard permanently in the summer but said he couldn’t as Solskjaer wanted him back.
    ER HOW MUCH?
Erling Haaland’s transfer will cost a staggering £295MILLION with the fee and wages combined, according to reports.
The Borussia Dortmund striker, 21, is one of the hottest talents in world football with plenty of admirers at the biggest clubs.
Chelsea and Manchester United are among the sides leading the chase for his signature next summer – with Manchester City and Real Madrid also interested.
But whoever can successfully lure the Norwegian away from Dortmund knows it will not be cheap.
It is well documented Haaland has a £64m release clause in his contract which kicks in next summer – although AS state clubs may have to pay up to £85m.
And although that will mean the transfer fee is relatively cheap for a potential Ballon d’Or winner and guaranteed goalscorer, that would be just a fraction of the overall cost.
Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola will ensure the best deal for himself and the player.
And according to AS, that is likely to mean more than £210m more in investment through wages alone.
A five-year deal would be a likely contract length for any agreement reached.
That would equate to Haaland pocketting a whopping £42m per year – or more than £800,000 per week.
Add into the mix agent fees and bonuses and the total figure would far exceed £300m overall across five years.
    DOUBLE DEAL
Premier League clubs are celebrating a stunning £2BILLION mega-deal for their US TV rights.
The six-year agreement with NBC — starting next season — almost TREBLES the value of the broadcast giant’s current contract.
But with the news coming just hours after a £100million payout to struggling lower-league teams was confirmed, the Prem will now be under intense pressure to hand them more from the Stateside cash jackpot.
Clubs had been hoping to double the value of the existing deal.
But NBC’s desperation to keep the contract helped the bidding soar as they beat off CBS, ESPN and other rivals.
The arrangement bolsters the authority of under-pressure Premier League chief executive Richard Masters, who saw chairman Gary Hoffman quit after losing the confidence of the clubs.
    SAUCE OF AMUSEMENT
Antonio Conte chuckled as he was asked about the effects of his ketchup ban at Tottenham.
But the new Spurs boss quickly turned serious as he warned his side need to improve across the board.
Conte was brought in after the struggling Nuno Espirito Santo was sacked just four months into his reign in North London.
The disciplinarian immediately made his presence felt as he banned ketchup and mayonnaise in a bid to cut flab from the Spurs squad.
Sandwiches, butter and fizzy drinks are also reported to be off the menu at the club’s Hotspur Way training ground.
Conte was asked about the ban in his press conference ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Leeds.
And while he would only offer a cheeky grin in response, he was quick to call for improvements from his men as they return from the international break.
He said: “We are very focused to work on the pitch.”
    NOT DAN’S PLAN
Dani Alves has denied he convinced Neymar to join Paris Saint-Germain, instead claiming it was the Brazilian who persuaded him.
In the summer of 2017, Alves transferred to the Ligue 1 side after just one season with Juventus.
Lthan one month later Neymar also signed for PSG as he left Barcelona for a world record fee.
But Alves insists he played no part in his fellow countryman’s decision to depart the Nou Camp and that it was in fact the other way around.
Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, he said: “It is the opposite of what people believe, I am grateful to Neymar because it was he who convinced me to sign for PSG.
“I have had nothing to do with his arrival. My only advice was to tell him to be happy.
“I swear by my children, that I have nothing to do with the decision.”

F1 Qatar Grand Prix LIVE RESULTS: Bottas leads, Verstappen & Hamilton neck and neck – stream, latest updates

MAX VERSTAPPEN and Lewis Hamilton are continuing their epic title tussle in Qatar this weekend. After the Mercedes star stormed back to win in style last week in Brazil, the season now heads to the desert and the Losail Circuit.

    Bottas leads after practice 1 & 2
UK start time: FP2 from 2pm
TV/Live stream: Sky Sports F1/NOW TV

Follow all the latest with our live blog from Qatar below…
LEW WINGS IT INTO CHEAT STORM
Lewis Hamilton is at the centre of an F1 cheat storm.
Bitter title rivals Red Bull are threatening to protest the legality of his Mercedes car.

Red Bull chief Christian Horner claims its rear wing breaks FIA rules by flexing too much at speed – giving Hamilton a huge amount of extra pace.
And ahead of this weekend’s crucial Qatar Grand Prix, Horner declared: “The straight line performance in the last two Grands Prix has gone exponential and that concerns us.
“Make no bones about it, if we see it on the car here it will be protested. If we believe the Mercedes car is not in compliance, we will protest.”
Hamilton fought back from grid penalties totalling 25 places to win the last GP in Brazil – cutting the gap to Red Bull’s championship leader Max Verstappen to 14 points.
Mercedes insist their car is legal and team boss Toto Wolff declared: “Nobody would show up with an illegal engine or rear wing.
“The world is too transparent for that.”
    ONE STAPP AT A TIME
Championship leader Max Verstappen is remaining patient after guiding his Red Bull to third-fastest in practice.
He said: “Still a lot of things to look at because everything is still so new.”
    HAMILTON: I’M NOT CLOSE
Lewis Hamilton admitted work needs to be done to speed him over night.
The Brit said: “I’m definitely not close. I’m a little bit slow, so we need to figure that out tonight.”
    PRACTICE RECAP
Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas topped the pace, 0.209 seconds ahead of Alpha Tauri’s Pierre Gasly.
Red Bull’s Championship leader Max Verstappen pipped Bottas’ team-mate Lewis Hamilton for third by a tiny 0.072secs.
    HORNER IGNITES ROW WITH WOLFF
Panto season came early in Doha after Red Bull boss Christian Horner and Merc boss Toto Wolff bickered like a pair of ugly sisters.
It came after a FIVE DAY rendition of ‘oh yes he did..’ ended with the FIA deciding that ‘oh, not he didn’t’ with regards to Max Verstappen illegally forcing Lewis Hamilton off track in Brazil.
Mercedes’ request for a right to review was turned down by the stewards as the Qatar GP turned into a right old carry on.
And it sparked a bitter fall out between Horner and Wolff on stage, with the Red Bull chief taunting his rival.
When quizzed about their relationship, Horner said: “There is no relationship.

“This is the first time they have been challenged and it is interesting to see how people react when they are challenged.
“Relationships and respect are different things, there is respect for everything Mercedes have done, everything Lewis Hamilton has done.
“I don’t need to go to dinner with Toto, I don’t need to kiss his a***. It is a competition, it is great that we are in this position and fighting.
“Toto and I are very different characters and operate in different ways.
“Am going to be spending Christmas with Toto? Probably not…Unless you’re in panto this year, I might take the kids!
“From my perspective it is F1, you don’t have to be best mates with your opponents. How can you be?
“It would be dishonest in many respects to fake a facade when you’re competing against your rivals.”
    LEWIS RACING WITH PRIDE
Lewis Hamilton will wear the Pride flag at the Qatar GP because he believes sport is ‘duty bound to raise awareness’ in countries criticised over human rights.
Britain’s world champ is to parade the message ‘We Stand Together’ on his crash helmet rather than the usual “Still I Rise”
Qatar is hosting its first Grand Prix on Sunday as part of a 10-year deal with F1.
And the Guardian report Hamilton as saying: “We’re aware there are issues in these places that we’re going to.
“But of course [Qatar] seems to be deemed as one of the worst in this part of the world.
“As sports go to these places, they are duty-bound to raise awareness for these issues. These places need scrutiny. Equal rights is a serious issue.”

    HOW FUN
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen says he enjoyed today’s second practice race ahead of the Qatar GP.
It was important for the Dutchman to get a feel of the track for the first time but other than that he found it quite fun.
He said: “It was the first time [we ran] in the evening, so it was important to understand how the car would react.
“Quite a bit of the change between the medium and the soft tyre I think for me, that’s why on the soft tyre it wasn’t let’s say amazing, but again you know it’s our first time here, so a lot of things to understand.
“You need to learn the track a bit, but it’s been a lot of fun to drive to be honest. I think it’s a really cool track.
    NOT BOTHERED
Lewis Hamilton has insisted that he isn’t thinking about the F1’s decision not to punish Max Verstappen.
Mercedes’ request to review the decision not to penalise Verstappen was rejected but Hamilton claims it doesn’t bother him because he wasn’t part of the proceedings.
Instead, the Brit revealed he’s been focusing on closing the gap on Verstappen this weekend in the Qatar GP.
Hamilton said: “I don’t have any thoughts on it because I wasn’t a part of it and I have been focusing on trying to do my weekend.”
    BELOW STANDARD
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has launched a scathing attack on Max Verstappen for forcing Lewis Hamilton off the at Interlagos last weekend.
The FIA decided not to penalise Verstappen for the alleged offence, but Wolff thinks Verstappen’s behaviour was below the standard of a F1 driver.
He raged: “I think what you see on the video is clear to everybody who has ever raced a car.
“Obviously, it is far away from any of the levels that any driver in Formula 1 can do. That corner was not meant to be a corner where he stayed on track, and he didn’t mean to stay on track.
“That is my personal interpretation, but I shouldn’t be judging anyone’s driving because if I could, I should be driving and not sitting in a chair making comments.”
    ALL OVER
That’s it for today, Bottas finishes top while Gasly comes in at second.
While Verstappen and Hamilton end the second practice in third and fourth respectively.
    STANDINGS
Here’s how things stand with only 10 minutes to go.

    Bottas 1:23.148
    Gasly +0.209
    Verstappen +0.350
    Hamilton +0.422
    Norris
    Stroll
    Tsunoda
    Perez
    Vettel
    Sainz

    MAX OVERLAP
Max Verstappen has flown past Hamilton.
But he’s still only third, behind Pierre Gasly and more than three tenths behind Bottas out in front.
    GASLY SPEEDS
Pierre Gasly has overtaken Lewis Hamilton to clinch second on the timesheet for AlphaTauri with a speed of 0.209s.
    SLOW MAX
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen finishes lap 0.4 seconds down on Valtteri Bottas.
That 1:23.579, which leaves him fourth, isn’t much quicker than what he managed on the medium tyres.
    PEREZ TROUBLE
Sergio Perez was going for a hot lap, but encountered traffic around the Turns 4-5 double right complex.
Slow-mo shots of Perez on the pit straight show the top edge of his rear wing flapping to an alarming degree.
    MAX SPEED
Valtteri Bottas only went a half-second faster than Max Verstappen on the soft tyre.
    BOT SPOT
Valtteri Bottas is the first on-track and lowers his existing benchmark at the top of the timesheet.
Lewis Hamilton only makes a small improvement himself and stays second.
    TOP OFF
Ferrari had the engine cover off Charles Leclerc’s car. They seem to have fixed the problem and he looks set to resume.
    PROBLEM FOR HAMILTON?
Strange. He is out of his Merc. There could yet be another big development here in Doha.
FP2 IS GO – GREEN LIGHT IN QATAR
Second session is underway here. Verstappen topped FP1 and remember, has been told he will not face any further retrospective action from his defence to Hamilton in Brazil.
    NO MOVEMENT
Lewis Hamilton has slammed the press for suggesting his steering wheel moved in the Brazil GP.
When asked about his steering column’s alleged movement, Hamilton said: “My steering column doesn’t move forwards and backwards.
“We had that last year, we don’t have it now. On Saturday there was a little bit of play in it, less than a millimetre probably, that I don’t like so they had to change the column and (then) there was no play.
“So I’m not really sure what you’re watching.”
    MAX LET OFF
Mercedes have had their request to review Max Verstappen’s move on Lewis Hamilton DENIED by Formula One stewards.
The incident occurred on lap 48 of the Brazil GP as Verstappen cut in front of Hamilton, forcing both men off the track.
The Brit ultimately went on to win the race and cut Verstappen’s lead in the driver standings to just 14 points.
But Mercedes still pressed for F1 stewards to review the footage with Verstappen possibly facing a penalty.
After FOUR days of deliberation the request has been denied and Verstappen has escaped without punishment.
New footage had emerged from Verstappen’s on-board camera, but that has been deemed ‘relevant’ but not ‘significant’ by the FIA.
    NOT FAIR
Ralf Schumacher has questioned Mercedes engine change and thinks they shouldn’t have been allowed to do so mid-season.
According to Ralf, engines should only be changed when needed, not because of wear and tear which was the case for Mercedes.
He told Sky: “Mercedes only changed it because it was showing too much wear from the previous races. It wasn’t broken,” the German insists.
“But that’s not the point of Formula 1. I find it a bit questionable.
“In my opinion, an engine should only be changed when it has to be. And if Mercedes has more wear and tear and less performance than the others, that’s their problem.
“You shouldn’t be able to take advantage like this.”
    LEW ARE BRILLIANT
Lewis Hamilton has been praised by fans for wearing a rainbow helmet at the Qatar Grand Prix in support of the LGBTQ+ community.
Homosexuality is criminalised in Qatar, where this weekend’s crucial race takes place.
During today’s practice, Hamilton donned a rainbow-coloured helmet, in solidarity with those that are persecuted simply for their sexuality in the gulf state.
The back of the helmet featured the message: “We stand together.”
Fans were impressed with the 36-year-old’s gesture.
One wrote on social media: “WAIT is Hamilton wearing a pride flag on his helmet this weekend in f***ing QATAR? I love this man.”
A second added: “Big balls move, like it.”
And another commented: “I may not be a fan of him but I can f***ing respect that.”

Chelsea ‘in Fofana transfer talks’, Haaland ‘chooses Premier League’ switch, Newcastle want Brozovic and Sule

ERLING HAALAND might be out of action injured at the moment – but that is not stopping speculation about his future.A number of Premier League clubs are said to be circling the Dortmund superstar, with reports from Spain suggested Real Madrid are expecting him to head to England next.
Chelsea have been handed a boost with Romelu Lukaku returning to training from his recent injury, putting him in contention for a return to action this weekend.
And the Blues have resumed talks with Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana ahead of a potential summer transfer, reports say.
Newcastle are also putting their January transfer plans into place, with reports linking them to Inter’s Marcelo Brozovic and Bayern Munich’s Niklas Sule.
Get all the latest football news, updates and transfer gossip below…
    NOU ERA
Lionel Messi’s tears were not caused by his Barcelona exit and the club were right to let him go.
That’s according to Barca’s financial guarantor Jose Elias, who made the claims in a series of bombshell comments on Spanish radio.
Instead, the financier suggested Messi’s blubbering was down to the upheaval he was about to put his family through in moving to France.
He said: “Messi did not cry because he did not continue at Barca. He cried for a sum of things, not because he did not continue at Bara.
“Messi was running out of a cycle. And to that is added that he has made life in Barcelona and that people were integrated.”
    CLAUSE FOR CONCERN
Argentina booked their spot at next year’s World Cup with four games to spare following a 0-0 draw against Brazil on Tuesday.
And captain Lionel Messi may not be called up for any of them after frustrating PSG chiefs by playing MORE minutes for his country this season than his club.
PSG and the Argentine FA have held talks on the matter and the French club have asked that he NOT be called up for the dead rubber games, according to Marca.
But part of Les Parisiens’ agreement to sign Messi in the summer was that they would let him prioritise his national team over Ligue 1.
Messi himself though is said to be eager to focus on club duty now World Cup qualification is secured.
His eyes are firmly focused on breaking his Ligue 1 duck having not scored in any of his five league games for Les Parisiens.
Although it remains to be seen whether his country’s FA agree and leave the 34-year-old out of Argentina’s next round of fixtures in January.
PSG sporting director Leonardo was not happy that Messi missed matches against RB Leipzig and Bordeaux this month by heading to Madrid for ‘regenerative therapy’.

    AD YOUR CHANCE
Paris Saint-Germain chiefs have met with Liverpool target Karim Adeyemi’s agent regarding a potential transfer, according to reports.
The teenage striker has attracted plenty of interest with his red-hot form for RB Salzburg this season.
Adeyemi, 19, has banged in 15 goals in 22 matches in all competitions so far this term.
This goal return has attracted interest from the likes of Jurgen Klopp’s side.
But according to Sport1, his agent Manni Schwabl was in Paris yesterday to meet with the Ligue 1 giants over a potential move.
    HOLD HAK BACK
Hakim Ziyech is unlikely to go out on loan when the January transfer window opens, according to reports.
The Chelsea winger, 28, has struggled to find his best form since arriving from Ajax for £33million last year.
nd there was reported interest from the likes of Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund to hand him the chance to reignite his career back on the continent.
But according to The Telegraph, there have been no conversations between the Blues and Ziyech’s representatives about a temporary switch away from Stamford Bridge.
That is especially the case because Chelsea are still in five competitions, with the Club World Cup set to be staged in Abu Dhabi in early February.
Although the report adds Chelsea may be willing to listen to permanent offers for the Morocco international.
    HAZARD WARNING
Ex Chelsea forward Eden Hazard is ‘unhappy’ at Real Madrid, according to Belgium national team manager Roberto Martinez.
The 30-year-old arrived at the Bernabeu in 2019 but has failed to make any sort of impact at the Spanish giants.
However, Martinez hopes Madrid will stick by their man while he goes through a difficult period of his career.
Speaking on COPE’s show El Partidazo, he said: “Hazard is medically in his best moment since he arrived at Real Madrid.
“He is sad in football terms, this is the first time that he is experiencing this situation.”
    TAKING ITS TOL
Tottenham have been offered the chance to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Corentin Tolisso, according to reports.
The Frenchman is set to be out of contract with the Bundesliga champions next summer.
His chances of an extension appear to be dwindling, having started only one league match this term under Julian Nagelsmann.
And according to Kicker, Tolisso is being ‘touted’ to Spurs.
To sign the World Cup winner, however, Antonio Conte’s side will have to beat off competition from one of his former clubs.
The report also claims that Inter Milan are being offered Tolisso’s services.
He joined Bayern from Lyon in 2017, winning the World Cup as part of Didier Deschamps’ 23-man France squad a year later.
But his time since has been blighted with injuries.
    GOOD MORNING FOOTY FANS
Chelsea have resumed talks with Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana ahead of a potential summer transfer, reports say.
The Champions League winners have four key centre-backs out of contract at the end of this season.
And according to Footmercato, Chelsea are eyeing Fofana as a potential replacement and have resumed talks with the defender.
However, they face a battle with Man United and Real Madrid for the highly-rated ace.
Meanwhile, Newcastle are reportedly plotting an ambitious transfer swoop for three top Serie A players.
The Times claims Eddie Howe wants Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij and midfield teammate Marcelo Brozovic.
Newcastle are also keen on Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha as they look to spend big in January.
Additional reports claim Howe also fancies Bayern Munich centre-half Niklas Sule.
Finally, Rangers have confirmed the appointment of Giovanni van Bronckhorst as new boss to replace Steven Gerrard.
He said: “I am absolutely delighted to be returning to Rangers as the club’s new manager.
“I feel so lucky to be going to work with a squad which is in a great position on all fronts and largely has that experience of being winners.
“I cannot wait to meet the club’s incredible supporters again and begin this new era for us all.”
    STEVIE DREAM
Steven Gerrard can’t wait to tackle the greatest managers in the world as Aston Villa’s new boss.
He said: “This is the best league in the world and why is it the best league in the world?
“It’s because the best teams are in there and the best coaches.
“We all accept it’s a tough, challenging league but that excites me rather than scares me and I’m ready to prove I’m the right man for this job.
“A lot of people will put added pressure on my shoulders but I can’t wait.
“The long term plan is to be successful. This is where I want to be, it’s where I want to challenge myself.”
    PARTEY TIME
Arsenal have been handed a major fitness boost with Thomas Partey available to face Liverpool.
The midfielder had been struggling with a groin issue ahead of this weekend’s crunch clash.
But Mikel Arteta will be able to call upon Partey after he returned to full training this week.
    FREEDOM DAY
Jesse Lingard appears to be nearing the Manchester United exit door after talks over a contract extension collapsed.
The 28-year-old’s current deal expires in the summer but he allegedly has ‘no intention’ of restarting negotiations.
That is due to his frustration at United’s behaviour during discussions earlier this season, according to The Times.
The first offer made to the England international was worth less than his current package.
He now looks set to walk away from Old Trafford for nothing in June and is also believed to be considering asking to leave on loan in January for the last six months of his contract due to a lack of action.
    LU BEAUTY
Newcastle are reportedly set to appoint a new sporting director – and the man ‘who discovered Kylian Mbappe’ is keen to join them.
Luis Campos is a free agent following his departure from Lille last year.
But the 57-year-old was credited with assembling the squad that lifted the Ligue 1 title back in May.
And that was not his only success – he also played a vital role in helping AS Monaco win the league during the 2016/17 season after the likes of Mbappe were promoted to the first-team.
    LU BEAUTIES
Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz has confirmed he is dating Women’s ace Alisha Lehmann after the pair uploaded a loved-up snap on social media.
Switzerland international Lehmann, 22, took to her Instagram story where the pair could be seen enjoying a smooch.
And Brazilian ace Luiz, 23, then shared the same boomerang post on his story to his 529,000 Instagram followers.
Adding a caption, he simply stated: “Princess.”
Lehmann had been in a relationship with ex-Chelsea Ladies striker Ramona Bachmann.
However the duo, who play alongside each other for the Swiss national team, broke up earlier this year.

    MAGNIFICENT
Newcastle are reportedly plotting an ambitious transfer swoop for three top Serie A players.
The Times claims Eddie Howe wants Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij and midfield teammate Marcelo Brozovic.
Newcastle are also keen on Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha as they look to spend big in January.
    WE WANT WES
Chelsea have resumed talks with Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana ahead of a potential summer transfer, reports say.
The Champions League winners have four key centre-backs out of contract at the end of this season.
And according to Footmercato, Chelsea are eyeing Fofana as a potential replacement and have resumed talks with the defender.
However, they face a battle with Man United and Real Madrid for the highly-rated ace.
    FOR PETE SAKE
Hollywood superstar Tom Holland has revealed he’s a huge Tottenham fan.
But the Spiderman actor isn’t too confident in his side right now.
That’s because he reckons newly-promoted Brentford would beat them in a Champions League final!
Holland told GQ: “I want to see Tottenham play Brentford.
“Tottenham is my team and Brentford is my uncle’s team and probably right now we wouldn’t beat Brentford but I’d fancy our chances.”

    GIO THE GER
Rangers have confirmed the appointment of Giovanni van Bronckhorst as new boss to replace Steven Gerrard.
He said: “I am absolutely delighted to be returning to Rangers as the club’s new manager.
“I feel so lucky to be going to work with a squad which is in a great position on all fronts and largely has that experience of being winners.
“I look forward to carrying on and enhancing the work that has been done already alongside Ross Wilson and the board of the club, and I’m grateful for the chance to work again at this huge football club.
“I cannot wait to meet the club’s incredible supporters again and begin this new era for us all.”
    TIMO TIMO
Chelsea have been handed a huge fitness boost ahead of Saturday’s trip to Leicester after Timo Werner returned to training today.
The striker, 25, has missed Chelsea’s last five games after injuring his hamstring against Malmo last month.
Werner has two goals in 10 games for Thomas Tuchel’s side this season.
And he was looking sharp in a partnership with Romelu Lukaku before his setback.
But Chelsea should be able to call upon Werner when they face Leicester at the weekend.

F1 Qatar Grand Prix LIVE: FP2 in progress, Verstappen faster than Hamilton in FP1 – results, stream, latest updates

MAX VERSTAPPEN and Lewis Hamilton are continuing their epic title tussle in Qatar this weekend. After the Mercedes star stormed back to win in style last week in Brazil, the season now heads to the desert and the Losail Circuit.
Get set for three days of high-octane racing, starting with practice today where Verstappen has already shown his speed by going fastest in FP1.

UK start time: FP2 from 2pm
TV/Live stream: Sky Sports F1/NOW TV

Follow all the latest with our live blog from Qatar below…
    ALL OVER
That’s it for today, Bottas finishes top while Gasly comes in at second.

FP1 IS DONE – VERSTAPPEN LEADS THE WAY
The Red Bull man draws first blood in his battle for the title.
Pierre Gasly is second, Valtteri Bottas is third. Lewis Hamilton in fourth.
HAMILTON IS NOW OUT ON TRACK
But his late run is going to be scuppered as Mick Schumacher goes into the gravel.
His Haas picks up a lot of stones and while he is running again, he is dropping them all over the track. What a mess.
INTERESTING SCENES IN THE MERC GARAGE
Some work being done on Hamilton’s car and the team have formed a human shield around his car to prevent the TV cameras from showing what they are working on.
    Let the games begin!
    HALFWAY STAGE
It is Verstappen, Bottas and Hamilton…
    Game on.
    TYRE TESTING
So with the early runs completed and every driver well in to double figures for laps, Pirelli report that all the compounds have been used.
Why is that relevant? Teams, including Pirelli, have limited amount of information on how their tyres work on this circuit, which is predominately used for MotoGP.
The teams will use all the data gathered to build detailed simulations and software models to work out how long each tyre will take to heat up, and how long it will last in these conditions.

    VERSTAPPEN SETS THE EARLY BENCHMARK
The Dutchman sits at the top of the timesheets after 25 minutes, as the drivers get used to the track.
    Hamilton is in P4.

    MORE IMAGES OF LEWIS’S LID
Special helmet in Qatar with the message “we stand together” on the back.
    FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF THIS TRACK?
Well, it’s pretty flat. And boring, as circuits go, this is not a patch on Silverstone, Spa, Interlagos or Monza.
    PROBLEMS FOR HAMILTON
The defending champion says he is “massively down on power” as sets a time that is only 14th quickest.
All eyes on Mercedes at the moment, especially with that rear wing, which failed scrutineering in Brazil, triggering his disqualification from qualifying.

Chelsea ‘in Fofana transfer talks’, Haaland ‘chooses Premier League’ switch, Newcastle want Brozovic

ERLING HAALAND might be out of action injured at the moment – but that is not stopping speculation about his future.A number of Premier League clubs are said to be circling the Dortmund superstar, with reports from Spain suggested Real Madrid are expecting him to head to England next.
Chelsea have been handed a boost with Romelu Lukaku returning to training from his recent injury, putting him in contention to face Juventus and Man Utd after the international break.
And the Blues have resumed talks with Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana ahead of a potential summer transfer, reports say.
Newcastle are also putting their January transfer plans into place, with reports linking them to Inter’s Marcelo Brozovic and Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha.
Get all the latest football news, updates and transfer gossip below…

And he was looking sharp in a partnership with Romelu Lukaku before his setback.
But Chelsea should be able to call upon Werner when they face Leicester at the weekend.
    HOT ROD
Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has slammed speculation linking him to Manchester United as ‘really disrespectful’.
Responding to a reporter’s question, he said: “There’s two things. Firstly it is really disrespectful to ask the question when you have a manager in place, a good manager and a good man, who is working hard at the club.
“Secondly I can’t really comment on it, because it is not something that is real.
“I am here as the Leicester City manager, proud to be here, privileged to be here and fully committed to the players, the club, the ownership.
“That’s about it, all the other noise around that is something we can’t control.”

    STAR CHARGED
Dutch star Quincy Promes has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a stabbing at a family gathering last year, it has been reported.
The Spartak Moscow forward, 29, was remanded in custody after the alleged victim, thought to be the suspect’s cousin, “was seriously wounded in the knee.”
Dutch media reports named the former Ajax player, who transferred to the Moscow team in February, as the suspect.
It’s understood that Promes was arrested in mid-December and later released in connection with the incident, which happened earlier last year at a family party in the scenic town of Abcoude, just outside Amsterdam.
He allegedly got into a scuffle after an argument with the relative and other family members immediately intervened, news reports said at the time.
The relative pressed charges last November.
After an investigation, prosecutors decided to charge Promes with attempted murder, or alternatively with aggravated assault.
“The suspect and his lawyer has been informed of the decision to prosecute,” a statement read.
    NO BURN
Burnley boss Sean Dyche isn’t bothered by the transfer rumours linking James Tarkowski away from Turf Moor.
Dyche acknowledges that things happen fast in football nowadays so clubs have to adapt to the pace.
Dyche said: “Football changes; if it changes it changes, if it doesn’t then we are happy with that.
“It is just the way it goes, you can’t – especially in this modern time in football – contracts are a different ball game.
“Now, people sign a contract and six months later they are sold.
“All I would say about James is that he’s a fantastic professional, he has been ever since he’s been here and he continues to be.”
    BISCUIT BASHING
John Terry has been savaged by Antonio Conte after the Italian coach told him to cut back on the biscuits.
The ex-Chelsea defender posted a picture of a couple of biscuits alongside a book and a cup of coffee.
And the 40-year-old added the caption: “5k Run. Some reading time and a couple of biscuits.
“Taking the dogs for a walk. Sunday lunch with the family down the pub.
    “Have a great Sunday.”
But new Spurs boss Conte was quick to jokingly slam Terry as he gave a brilliant response on Instagram.
The former Chelsea boss simply replied to Terry’s post by saying: “John only 1 biscuit 😉😂💪.”
    ALL OR NOTHING
Rio Ferdinand has issued a stern warning to Tottenham’s Dele Alli, suggesting that this could be his final chance in North London under new boss Antonio Conte.
Alli has been slipping under the radar at Spurs ever since Mauricio Pochettino left the club at the end of 2019.
His dramatic dip in form has not only been a concern for Tottenham fans, but also for former England captain Ferdinand.
On his FIVE podcast, he said: “Conte, he doesn’t suffer fools, he doesn’t accept standards that are below what he sets. So I’m sure this is again a great opportunity.
“He’s now got a manager who’s going to have huge demands, be demanding of him constantly every day. And that might be the turning point for Dele.”
    SIMPLY THE BEST
West Ham star Declan Rice is the best player in the Premier League but Manchester City ace Phil Foden can become the best in the world.
That is according to former England manager Glenn Hoddle, who sang both internationals’ praises as they played a major part in the national team’s qualification for the 2022 World Cup.
Rice has been sensational for the Hammers in the Premier League as well as the Europa League, which is why Manchester United and Chelsea are desperate to sign him in the summer.
Foden, on the other hand, has been a stand-out performer at City and has been established as a key part of Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Hoddle is adamant that Rice will keep improving but expects Foden to achieve even greater things in just three years.
    MAGPIES CALLING
Newcastle are prepared to spend big to lure Borussia Dormund star Axel Witsel to St James’ Park, according to reports.
The midfielder’s contract expires at the end of the season.
The 32-year-old is into his fourth year at Dortmund and he could be ready for a new challenge in a different league.
Juventus have been credited with an interest in Witsel.
But Newcastle’s proposal of £160,000 a week will completely trump what the Italian giants can afford, according to TuttoJuve.
To put that offer into context, the Belgian currently earns around £115,000 a week, a figure Juve could struggle to pay.
But Witsel will not want to join a Championship outfit, so first Newcastle must ensure they stay out of trouble.
    ‘AMAZING PEOPLE’
Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani was hailed for rescuing a youth team from Afghanistan alongside…Kim Kardashian.
The unlikely duo helped 130 women’s footballers resettle in the UK having fled the Taliban.
American socialite Kardashian paid for a charter flight ensuring safe passage from Pakistan.
And after they landed yesterday, Radrizzani tweeted: “When I received a call asking for help to rescue the youth team from Afghanistan, I didn’t even know where to start.
“Today they flew to the UK. Proud to be part of the team to make this real. Let’s dream (that) one day they will play in @LUFC”.
“The players were evacuated out of Afghanistan to escape the Taliban in September following the departure of allied troops in August.”
    REF RAP
The referee who took charge of the chaotic World Cup qualifier between Argentina and Brazil has been banned for making ‘serious’ errors.
And his VAR was also suspended by Conmebol.
The officials failed to punish Nicolas Otamendi for a brutal elbow in Raphinha’s face during the goalless draw in San Juan on Tuesday.
And the fiery Argentina defender wasn’t done there as instead of apologising he picked the infuriated Leeds star up on his feet – even though he suffered a serious cut on his lip and needed medical attention.
Blood poured out the winger’s mouth and even though he showed referee Andres Cunha the extent of his injuries no foul or card was given to Otamendi.
Brazil boss Tite raged at the ‘inconceivable’ decision by the VAR, adding it was ‘simply impossible’ for him not to see Otamendi’s horror smash.
In footage leaked by Conmebol, Esteban Ostojich can be heard telling Cunha that the offence was only a yellow due to ‘the average intensity of the blow’.

    WES HIM IN
Leicester star Wesley Fofana has put Prem sides Chelsea and Manchester United on red alert by admitting playing for either team would be a dream.
The Prem giants have been keeping tabs on the Foxes defender, with Chelsea reportedly aiming to make a move in January.
And Fofana is open to a move to the Prem giants he revealed to Actu Foot.
Fofana said: “A club that makes me dream? There’s Marseille, Real Madrid, Barça. In the Premier League, there are Chelsea, United, City… But you have to work to make your dreams come true. Through work, you can achieve anything.”
    KOUL JORG
Newcastle and Manchester United transfer target Kalidou Koulibaly revealed his fondness of Chelsea star Jorginho.
When Koulibaly joined Napoli in 2014, Jorginho was the first person he shared a room with.
And they had a telepathic bond on the pitch as Koulibaly explained it only took a glance for them to read each other.
The centre back told Football Italia: “It was the first person I shared the room with when I arrived in Naples. He taught me a little of Italian, I remember he used to correct me.
“He is an extraordinary player on the pitch, so important for Chelsea and Italy. I had fun playing with him. One stare was enough to understand each other.”
    PEEVED STEVE
Steven Gerrard has shot down rumours that he took the Aston Villa job as a springboard to manage ex-club Liverpool in future.
Gerrard claims he’s honoured to be Villa’s boss and threw his weight behind the Reds current boss Jurgen Klopp.
When asked about the reports linking him with a switch back to Anfield, Gerrard said: “Very unfair. You’ll never hear me say its a stepping stone.
“I’m really honoured and proud, I’ll give this job everything it needs to be a success, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having dreams and aspirations.
“Liverpool have a world class coach and if he was to sign a life time deal I would be very happy for them and him.”
    WIG MAN
Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa has thanked Wigan academy coach Gregor Rioch for the work he did in the development of Joe Gelhardt.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Bielsa called Rioch last week to show his appreciation for the time and effort the Latics dedicated for Gelhardt throughout the years.
The Whites youngster joined the League One outfit’s academy in 2013 and trained under the son of former Arsenal boss Bruce Rioch, who helped him rise through the ranks and make his senior debut five years later.
The forward’s performances at the DW Stadium caught the eye of the Yorkshire-based club, who signed him last year for a fee in the region of £1million.
    BARTON ON TRIAL
Joey Barton will face trial after denying he allegedly grabbed his wife by the throat at a party.
The Bristol Rovers manager, 38, is accused of assaulting Georgia Barton by beating at a property in Kew, South West London on June 2 this year.
He allegedly kicked her in the head and left her with a head injury and bloody nose at a property where they had been with friends.
The trial date was set at Wimbledon Magistrates Court today and is due take place at the same venue on December 16.
    RUD NOT TO
Emmanuel Petit has urged Chelsea to extend Antonio Rudiger’s contract by the end of the season to prevent him from leaving for free.
The defender is said to be extremely unhappy with the club after they fell short of his wage demands by £60,000.
Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich are all said to be interested in the Chelsea man, who has been a key player for Thomas Tuchel since he took over at the start of the year.
Rudiger has expressed his desire to remain at Stamford Bridge beyond the summer, but only if the Blues will increase his wages.
When speaking to Bookmakers.com, former Chelsea midfielder Petit said: “He looks like one of the best defenders around.
“He could leave on a free and Chelsea would have to spend a minimum of £30 million to find a new defender of his level, and there’s never a guarantee a buy will work out.
“This guy is a survivor. Since Tuchel has been the manager he’s been one of the top defenders in world football.
“If he asks for two more years, just give him the money.”

    FAB-TASTIC
Legendary Italian defender Fabio Cannavaro says he wouldn’t have ‘feared’ facing Cristiano Ronaldo or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Cannavaro instead highlighted Tottenham aces Son Heung-min and Harry Kane as two ‘very strong’ players.
The 48-year-old says Son, in particular, has ‘impressed’ him the most.
Speaking exclusively to SunSport, Cannavaro said: “Son and Kane are very, very strong.
“The Korean is the one who impressed me the most.
“Aubameyang is also a terrific player, like Ronaldo. But I wouldn’t have feared them.”
    TAY DAY
Neil Taylor is set to join Middlesbrough today as Chris Wilder’s first signing.
The 32-year-old is a free agent after his contract at Aston Villa expired in the summer.
Taylor is expected to sign on a short-term deal until January once personal terms have been finalised.
After new Boro boss Wilder replaced Neil Warnock on November 7, ex-Swansea defender Taylor trained with the north-east club during the international break.
Taylor played 60 minutes in an Under-23s game against Nottingham Forest as part of a trial.
SunSport revealed last week that Taylor, capped 43 times by Wales, was keen to continue playing despite passing his Uefa A licence coaching badges.
He had been helping Villa’s Under-16 side since his playing deal at the club ended.
Taylor became the first of a group of Euro 2016 stars to pass the Welsh FA’s coaching badge from a class which included team-mates Joe Allen and Ashley Williams.
    JACK THE LAD
Jack Rodwell has officially signed for Australian side Western Sydney Wanderers on a one-year deal in a bid to reignite his stalling career.
The 30-year-old former Manchester City man hasn’t played a game in 16 MONTHS but is now set to return to action down under.
He was announced by the club this morning and has put pen-to-paper with the A-leaguers after spending two weeks training with Carl Robinson’s side.
Rodwell joins as a free agent after playing just twice for last club Sheffield United.
And the forgotten three-cap England man has revealed his wife, Alana Licate, is to thank for getting the deal done as she hails from western Sydney.
    MI OH MI
Ex-Everton star James Rodriguez was reportedly a bit of a party animal in his Bayern Munich days and partly responsible for undermining the authority of former boss Niko Kovac.
An incident in Miami in 2018, at the start of Kovac’s reign, played a part in the manager’s failure at Bayern.
The German outfit spent much of the summer in America preparing for the upcoming season, which included a friendly against Manchester City.
And according to Bild, Kovac placed a lot of importance on the match, so forbade his players from experiencing the Miami nightlife.
He reportedly said: “Nobody goes out! We have an incredibly important test game in three days.
“We have to be focused and concentrated. The first Bundesliga game awaits us in six weeks. Celebrating is not possible in preparation.”
But the players did not listen.
And with a group allegedly spearheaded by Frank Ribery, David Alaba, and Rafinha, the Bayern squad set about partying into the night.
It is claimed Rodriguez’s “party beast” came out, with the midfielder filming videos of the evening and posting them on a Whatsapp group titled ‘Miami Nights’.
    IN THE NIK OF TIME
Newcastle’s have received a boost in their pursuit of Bayern Munich defender Niklas Sule as he reportedly wants to QUIT the German champions.
The 26-year-old’s contract with the Bundesliga giants expires at the end of this season.
And, according to Bild, talks between Sule and the club about a possible extension appear to be stalling.
It is also being reported that the German centre-back is leaning towards wanting to leave Bayern after four years with the club.
Sule joined in 2017 and has gone on to rack up 150 appearances for the Bundesliga champions.
And he remains a regular first teamer for Bayern having started nine of their 11 league matches so far this season.
He has also enjoyed a decent career as a German international, appearing 37 times for his country and scoring one goal.
It is understood that Bayern have offered him a new deal but that he is yet to put pen to paper.
    MAGNIFICENT
Newcastle are reportedly plotting an ambitious transfer swoop for three top Serie A players.
The Magpies are looking to strengthen Eddie Howe’s squad in January ahead of a huge relegation scrap, and they’re looking to dip into the Italian market.
According to The Times, Newcastle are plotting a double raid of defending Serie A champions Inter Milan.
Bolstering the defensive ranks appears to be a priority and Stefan de Vrij could be the man Newcastle are looking for.
The defender is, however, a first-team regular for the Nerazzurri – which could make a deal to tempt the Italian club to sell, hard to do.
Newcastle would also like to bring Marcelo Brozovic – who has been linked with a move to Manchester United in the past – to the North East of England.
The 28-year-old is another first-team regular, and is by far one of the more impressive midfielders in the Serie A.
Brozovic’s contract interestingly expires next summer, which opens up the possibility of the midfielder agreeing a pre-contract with another club from January 1.
    BARC-ING MAD
Dani Alves re-joined Barcelona on Wednesday for just ONE EURO a month, keeping to his word of helping the club out in any way possible.
But if the 38-year-old doesn’t see out his contract – which expires next June – Barca will reportedly receive a rather large sum of money.
According to RAC 1, as reported by AS, the termination clause in Alves’ contract stipulates he would have to pay the club £84MILLION.
The clause is strange considering Alves has the lowest salary amongst the whole Barca squad.
Barca are hoping Alves’ reunion with Xavi will inspire the current group of players to bring back the club’s glory days.
    OVERNIGHT FOOTBALL ROUND-UP
Chelsea and Manchester United target Jules Kounde shares this morning’s transfer spotlight with Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe.
Sevilla centre-back Kounde sent exit talk soaring with an enigmatic tweet.
The France star reportedly has a £69million release clause but posted a song lyric: “Can’t stop gotta claim what’s mine.”
Meanwhile, Newcastle, Everton and Crystal Palace are being linked with a January move for Pepe.
Arsenal and Leeds are rated potential bidders for Ajax’s Morocco right-back Noussair Mazraoui.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has hinted the Spanish giants will wait until the summer to sign Kylian Mbappe for free after PSG rejected their £170million offer.
And Perez’s counterpart at Barcelona, Joan Laporta, says he “won’t rule out” re-signing legends Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta.
That follows new Barca manager Xavi bringing back 38-year-old right-back Dani Alves.
Lastly, it’s claimed ex-Real chief Zinedine Zidane has told Manchester United he is unavailable until the summer.
UTD TURN UP HEAT ON OLE
Manchester United turned up the heat on boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – with a reminder that on-field success is still the No 1 priority.
The club’s wage bill has rocketed by almost 25 per cent to a huge £354MILLION a year.

And United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward told under-fire manager Solskjaer it is time to give value for money.
Woodward declared: “Our top priority is success on the pitch.
“The manager,  players, everyone at the club are determined to achieve that objective.”
Solskjaer will be without injured Paul Pogba for Saturday’s crunch at Watford as the midfielder recovers from a thigh injury.
The summer arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho helped to push up United’s wage bill by 23.1 per cent.
Revenues for the three months to September 30 were up 16 per cent to £126.5m as supporters finally returned to Old Trafford.
    RAHEEM DREAM
Barcelona plan a January fire sale to fund a move for Raheem Sterling.
And one player who could be shown the door at the Nou Camp is former Manchester City target Frenkie de Jong.

New Barca boss Xavi is a huge fan of England hero Sterling – and would love to bring him to the Catalan giants in the New Year.
This week, Barcelona brought Brazilian Dani Alves, 38, back to the club – meaning at present they are not allowed to register any new players due to their financial woes.
As it stands, they would struggle to land Sterling, even on loan, due to his City wages of £300,000 per week.
But Barcelona are hopeful the landscape will have changed by the time the transfer window reopens in January.
Director of football Mateu Alemany said: “The reality is we can register Xavi and his coaching staff.
“But beyond that, we can’t do anything else right now.
“We are working on some different situations.
“And we will see if we can make room to still remain within the fair-play regulations.”
    IT’S PLANE SULLING FOR ANTONIO
David Sullivan paid a staggering £100,000 to fly West Ham ace Michail Antonio home from Jamaica on a private flight.
Hammers’ majority owner Sullivan dipped into his pocket to get his star striker back from international duty yesterday.

And this means Antonio will be fresh and ready for training today ahead of Saturday’s trip to Wolves.
The 31-year-old scored both the Reggae Boys’ goals in their 1-1 World Cup qualifying draws against El Salvador and the United States.
Antonio is enjoying another good season at the London Stadium with seven goals in all competitions so far for David Moyes’ high-flying Hammers.
Sullivan, 72, has also appointed his sons Jack and David Jr to the club’s board of directors.
Daniel Cunningham, the son-in-law of joint-chairman David Gold, has also been added to the list of directors.
It is part of a boardroom reshuffle following Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky’s purchase of a 27 per cent stake in a deal worth more than £180million.
    GREALISH DATES THIRD BEAUTY
Jack Grealish has been dating a THIRD beauty — Love Island winner Amber Gill.
They have enjoyed several secret meetings, but Amber, 24, is said to be heartbroken at the England ace seeing TV’s Emily Atack, 31 — possibly at the same time.
Emily Atack to be confronted by Love Island’s Amber Gill who claims to be dating Jack Grealish too
She told a pal: “I’d like to get in touch with Emily and find out if there was any crossover.”
The Man City player, 26, has also had showdown talks with Sasha Attwood, 25, over their on/off romance.
The £100million Manchester City ace charmed castaway Amber on Instagram leading to several secret dates in recent months.
A source explained: “Amber has been in contact with Jack for a while after they first got in touch online, and since then they’ve met up several times over the past few months at hotels, including one in Leeds.
“She was clearly quite excited about it, she told her friends, but after the news about Jack and Emily came out recently the whole thing feels a lot less glamorous.
“It was never a proper relationship, just a good time and some dates together, but now it feels as though he may have been in contact with a number of girls at once and that’s very disappointing for her. She really liked him.”
MADRID WILL KYL TIME ON MBAPPE
Real Madrid will wait until the summer to sign Kylian Mbappe for free after PSG rejected their £170million offer, president Florentino Perez has suggested.
The Spanish giants lodged a colossal bid in the summer, which was rejected by PSG despite Mbappe having only a year left on his contract.
Speaking to Spanish journalist Ramon Alvarez, Real Madrid president Perez, 74, criticised PSG’s rejection of their offer and made a dig at their ownership.
Perez said: “The state owned clubs don’t sell their players. It’s a madness.
“Now we offer €200m (£170m) for a single player and they don’t sell him. When players finish their contract it’s better.”
    RON’S A RED HOT DEVIL
Manchester United hero Cristiano Ronaldo has yet again showed off his chiselled physique after sharing a snap of himself in the sauna.
The 36-year-old took to his Instagram story to upload a picture in his underwear to his 367 million followers.

In the photo, a sweaty-looking Ronaldo smiles for the camera in a selfie as he starts his preparations for the weekend trip to Watford.
His former United team-mate Patrice Evra has lifted the lid on Ronaldo’s love for saunas in his bid to keep in peak condition.
Recalling a time he popped round his house, he said: “Cristiano, first of all, as a person and human being, is so generous, so nice and people don’t see that face. But he is a winner. He is addicted.
“For example, when we had training at 10am, Cristiano was already there for 8am. When we had finished training, he was still on the pitch practising.
“When he invited me for lunch… don’t ever go for lunch, because you are going to have one of the most boring lunches at Cristiano’s. It is salad, plain chicken and water. There isn’t even fizzy water.
“After that, we went into the garden, trained for a little bit, went swimming, went to the sauna and at one point I looked at him and said: ‘Bro, we have just finished a training session, why do we have to a second training session?’”

Chelsea ‘only signed Saul Niguez as favour’, Haaland ‘chooses Premier League transfer’, Azpilicueta ‘eyed by Barcelona’

However, one man who appears a long way away from the Blues first team is Saul Niguez.
And reports from Spain suggest the Blues only signed the Atletico Madrid man on loan as a “favour” to his representatives.
Meanwhile, veteran defenders Thiago Silva and Cesar Azpilicueta could be set for moves away from Stamford Bridge when their contracts end this summer.

    NEW DRI-M
Barcelona  star Pedri shared a funny story about how much he idolised club legend Andres Iniesta as a child.
The midfielder has been compared to Iniesta ever since busting onto the scene at the Nou Camp last year thanks to his attacking prowess.
And the Spain international considers that a major compliment as he grew up admiring Iniesta so much so that he even wanted to look like him.
The 18-year-old asked his barber to cut his hair the exact same way as his hero but his father immediately pulled the plug because the Vissel Kobe star was bald at the time.
Pedri said: “I was at the barbers with my father and there was a Barca match on the TV.
“I asked the barber to give me Andres Iniesta’s haircut because he is my idol.
“My dad said no we can’t do that because Iniesta is bald.”

    DE JONG ONES
Manchester City are closing in on signing Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong for £75million as the Spanish side are ready to cash in, according to reports.
The 24-year-old joined the Catalan giants for £65m in the summer of 2019 but he has not set the world alight.
And after a difficult start to the season he is being linked with a move away from Barcelona as the club continue to try and climb out of their financial crisis.
According to El Chiringuito, the LaLiga side are ready to sell De Jong in an attempt to raise funds during their economic downturn.
And Man City have been discussed as a potential destination for the Dutch midfielder.
A swap deal with De Jong and Raheem Sterling has been rumoured, but it appears Barca’s financial situation means they would be more inclined to accept a cash offer.

    POOR SAUL
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel reportedly had no interest in Saul Niguez and only signed him from Atletico as a favour to his agents.
Niguez joined the Blues on loan until the end of the season but has hardly got a look in so far in Tuchel’s first-team.
And it’s now been alleged by Cadena SER, that the Blues boss didn’t see Niguez in his vision for the club before bringing him to West London.
If the rumours are true. it’s turned out to be costly favour on Tuchel’s behalf as the Blues paid £4million to complete Niguez’s transfer from Atletico and keep the midfielder’s agents happy.
    SUITS HIM
Dani Alves donned a pair of flip flops for his second Barcelona presentation… 13 years after doing so the first time around.
The Brazilian, 38, completed a shock return to Catalonia this week, following old pal Xavi back to the club.
Alves may be a much sharper dresser this time around, but in his own words ‘some things can change, but others can’t’.
The flying full-back arrived at Barca in 2008 from Sevilla.
And for his presentation, he wore a pair of FLIP FLOPS along with blue jeans and a red polo shirt.
This time around Alves went for a far more suave outfit, looking dapper in a turtleneck shirt, blazer and trousers
But he couldn’t resist again donning a pair of Barca branded flip flops.
In a cheeky video for the club’s social media platforms, the popular star said: “I’m wearing flip flops because some things can change, but others can’t.”

    LEW AND BEHOLD
Robert Lewandowski reportedly cornered Matty Cash while on international duty with Poland to quiz him all about life in the Premier League.
The 24-year-old defender, who has Polish grandparents, recently switched his allegiance from England and won his first two caps for them over the past week.
After coming on as sub in the 4-1 win over Andorra, he was hooked at half time of their World Cup qualifying defeat to Hungary.
However, away from the pitch, a fresh report states that at the team hotel he was pulled aside for a lengthy chat with his adopted country’s biggest superstar.
And The Athletic claims the star, who was previously linked with a transfer to Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool, wanted to know all about life in England’s top-flight from the Villa ace.
    LIGT WORK
Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt continues to be linked with a move to Stamford Bridge as agent Mino Raiola remains coy about his future.
Chelsea are desperate for reinforcements at the back with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen out of contract at the end of the season.
And after failing with a move for Jules Kounde in the summer Thomas Tuchel has now reportedly turned his attention to the 22-year-old De Ligt.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano tweeted: “Mino Raiola on Matthijs de Ligt future: ‘Staying at Juventus or leaving? We should do this interview in May… it’s November now. It’s not time to talk about it.'”
Chiefs at Juve are eager to get De Ligt’s £280,000-a-week wages off the books and are open to letting him leave.
With just under three years remaining on his current deal the Turin outfit aren’t keen on paying his mammoth wages until the end of his deal.
Fortunately for them De Ligt one of three on a transfer shortlist drawn up by Chelsea chief Marina Granovskaia.
    KAMBA JAILED
Former Schalke player Hiannick Kamba has been jailed for faking his own death in a life insurance scam that netted him and his wife over £1million.
Kamba, 35, and his wife, identified only as 41-year-old Christina von G. due to strict local privacy laws, were yesterday sentenced to three years and 10 months in prison for an insurance scam that allegedly won them £1.01m.
The elaborate scam began in 2016 when Kamba travelled to his native Democratic Republic of the Congo and supposedly died in a car crash, according to German media outlet Bild.
Following Kamba’s supposed death, his wife made a claim on his life insurance and collected the hefty payout using a death certificate from the DR Congo as proof of his death.
The couple had previously taken out an insurance policy of £505k, which doubled in the event of accidental death.
The couple had also tried to take out a £3.37m policy, but the company rejected the application.
Kamba’s wife also received £84.2k in compensation from Evonik, a chemical plant where Kamba worked after ending his professional football career.
    TOP SCOTT
England boss Gareth Southgate marked England’s qualification for next year’s World Cup with a trip to fancy Mayfair restaurant Scott’s.
The England manager returned from San Marino and was pictured with wife Alison, 54, and son Flynn, 17 at the London celeb hotspot.
They enjoyed a celebratory meal after the 51-year-old guided England to next year’s World Cup finals following the thumping 10-0 win against minnows San Marino.
Scott’s is a plush seafood restaurant in the centre of Mayfair, which serves the likes of Beluga caviar – priced at £875 for 125grams.
Meanwhile grilled lobster sets you back £54, with Morecombe Bay oysters priced at £44 per-dozen.
Or if Southgate decided to go down the meat route Scott’s Bannockburn ribsteak would have cost him a cool £45.
    FLAIR FORCE ONE
Brazil’sPremier League stars all travelled back to the UK together after Tuesday’s 0-0 World Cup qualifier against Argentina.
The five-time World Cup winners secured their place at the Qatar-based tournament last week with a tight win over Colombia.
But they were unable to exact revenge on Argentina – who they lost to in the Copa America final – as they played out a feisty draw.
The point secured Argentina’s place at the World Cup too, leaving just three South American qualifying spots left with four fixtures to go.
And after the game, Liverpool pair Fabinho and Alisson travelled back on a private jet with Manchester City duo Ederson and Gabriel Jesus, as well as Man Utd‘s Fred and Leeds‘ Raphinha.
Alisson captioned the Instagram story: “Let’s go home.”
    OOPSIE DAISY
Harry Maguire’s sister appears to like a tweet mocking Manchester United legend Roy Keane after his criticism of her brother.
Keane blasted Maguire’s start to the season for Man Utd as a ‘disgrace’ and labelled his goal celebration against Albania as ’embarrassing’.
Although Maguire hasn’t directly responded to Keane’s comments, his celebration could be seen as a rebuttal to the criticism.
And sister Daisy didn’t hold back in digging back at Keane in her own way.
The 21-year-old liked a Tweet comparing Keane’s contribution towards Ireland on the international stage against Maguire’s.
The tweet read: “Roy Keane for his country vs Harry Maguire for his country.”
A photo of Keane after he was infamously sent home from the Republic of Ireland squad at the 2002 World Cup accompanied the tweet.
Whereas a photo of Maguire holding a Man of the Match award during England’s Euro 2020 campaign was put up next to it.
    RAPH CLASH
Leeds star Raphinha needed FIVE stitches after catching en elbow to the mouth by Nicolas Otamendi during last night’s Superclasico between Argentina and Brazil.
The two rival nations locked horns in their World Cup qualifier at the Estadio San Juan del Bicentenario, which ended goalless and thus didn’t have many highlights to show.
Except for one controversial incident that occurred in the first half when Raphinha and Otamendi wrestled for the ball in the Albiceleste’s area after 34 minutes.
During their tussle, the feisty Argentine elbowed the Brazilian in the face in his bid to clear the ball.
The former Manchester City ace wasn’t done there as instead of apologising he picked the infuriated Leeds player up on his feet even though he suffered a serious cut on his lip and needed medical attention.
Blood poured down the winger’s mouth and even though he showed referee Andres Cunha the extent of his injuries no foul or card was given on Otamendi by the official or VAR.
Instead, Cunha called on the physios to enter the pitch and it was evident that stitches were needed at some point but manager Tite opted to keep the forward on the pitch.
Raphinha received treatment but had to play the rest of the first half with bandages in his mouth.
    SLICK MOVES
Real Madrid are ‘desperate’ to sign Kylian Mbappe AND Erling Haaland, according to reports.
The Spanish giants are concerned that they are losing their grip at the top of European football, given the rise of oil-rich clubs.
President Florentino Perez is eager to protect his club against the rise of the likes of Manchester City and now Newcastle United, by securing the signatures of two of Europe’s best young players.
According to AS, Madrid want to seal a pre-contract agreement with Paris Saint-Germain star Mbappe in January, when they will be allowed to open negotiations with the French striker.
AS also claim that Madrid want to sign Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, when his rumoured £65m release clause kicks in.
    RODGER THAT
Frank lampard is said to be keeping an eye on the situation at Leicester with Brendan Rodgers heavily linked with the Manchester United job.
The former Chelsea star is reportedly plotting his return to management and views Leicester as the ideal club to stage his Premier League comeback.
Lampard, 43, has been linked with managerial jobs at Crystal Palace, Newcastle and Norwich this season and reportedly turned down the job at Carrow Road.
According to The Mirror, Lampard viewed the Norwich job as too risky, with the Canaries rock-bottom and facing a tough relegation scrap this season.
It is believed that Lampard would prefer a return to the Premier League in any case, having only been sacked by Chelsea in January.
And with Man Utd boss Solskjaer’s job hanging by a thread and Rodgers the favourite to replace him, Lampard could soon get his wish.
    GAV THAT
Barcelona have terminated the contract of Newcastle technical director target Ramon Planes – who spotted midfield wonderkids Gavi and Pedri.
The 54-year-old’s current deal was due to expire in the summer of 2022, but both parties have agreed to an earlier separation.
The decision to part sooner will allow new boss Xavi to have greater control over recruitment.
And the legendary Spanish midfielder has already brought his old team-mate Dani Alves back to the club on a short-term deal.
Planes’ exit from Barca opens up the possibility of a move to newly mega-rich Newcastle.
The Magpies are said to have ‘made contact’ with Planes with the view to giving the Spaniard a boardroom position.
Planes would play a key role behind the scenes, helping the club to rebuild under newly appointed Eddie Howe.

    MOB RULE
The prison where Manchester City footballer Benjamin Mendy is being held is plagued with a “tangled web of gangs” with 29 inmate attacks a MONTH.
Mendy, 27, has been on remand in Liverpool’s HMP Altcourse since October as he faces a total of six counts of rape and one of sexual assault.
It’s now been revealed that there were nearly 340 inmate assaults in the last year – despite prisoners being locked up for the majority of the day during the pandemic.
The prison, where the footballer is being held, is riddled with warring “gangs” who have spent much of their limited out-of-cell time in the last year assaulting each other.
Mendy’s fellow inmates also attack one another with makeshift weapons – including razor blades concealed inside toothbrushes.

    FURIOUS FLO
    PHLIPPING HELL
Philippe Coutinho reportedly has no intention of leaving Barcelona in the January transfer window, dealing a blow to Newcastle who are desperate to bolster their squad.
Newcastle have just five points after 11 games, and have looked at Coutinho as a player who could help fire them back up the table.
But according to Sport, the Brazilian has no interest in leaving Barca in January.
And no matter how much the club try to push him out the door, Coutinho is certain a move won’t materialise.
The club will, however, look to move the £145million flop on in the summer with his huge wages an ongoing concern.
    CRIS-IS
The curse of the international break has struck once again.
Tottenham centre-back Christian Romero is the latest casualty after picking up a hamstring injury while on Argentina duty.
It’s a blow for Antonio Conte and Spurs, with the 23-year-old impressing at the back since his £47million move from Atalanta.
The defender pulled up just after half time in the 0-0 draw against Brazil while in a foot race with Matheus Cunha.
After being tended to by medics he tried to play on but had to be replaced just moments later when it became clear he couldn’t continue.
According to football transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the Spurs man will undergo scans today to discover the extent of the problem.
If it is a muscular injury then he is likely to miss Sunday’s clash against Leeds.
    GOOD MORNING FOOTY FANS
Brazilian side Fluminense have reportedly opened talks with Thiago Silva’s agent as they try to seal an emotional return for the centre-back.
The 37-year-old is out of contract at Chelsea at the end of the season, although he could yet extend his stay in London.
According to football journalist Nicolo Shira the South American outfit have made contact with Silva’s agent Paulo Tonietto.
However Silva’s ‘priority’ remains to be Stamford Bridge.
The Blues are also set to kickstart talks regarding a one year extension to his deal in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, new Barcelona boss Xavi is looking to weave some more magic by snapping up Cesar Azpilicueta on a free transfer.
Dani Alves has already been recruited for free, with Chelsea man Azpilicueta reportedly his next target.
According to ESPN, Barca are keeping a keen eye on how contract talks progress between the Blues and club captain Azpilicueta.
The 32-year-old’s current deal at Stamford Bridge runs out at the end of the season.
Finally, Man Utd target Zinedine Zidane would reportedly prefer to manage an international team.
Journalist Pedro Almeida claims the Red Devils will find it hard to tempt the Frenchman to Old Trafford if their interest is serious.
That’s because Zidane is not keen on a return to club football after two spells with Real Madrid.
And with jobs sure to be opening up on the international scene during the next year, Zidane is instead hoping to take charge of a country.
    STAY-NE ROONEY
Wayne Rooney is ready to battle on as Derby boss despite already looking doomed to relegation.
The Rams administrators agreed to take a nine-point penalty from the EFL for Financial Fair Play offences, putting their total to -3 in the Championship.
Derby have also dropped their appeal against a 12-point hit for going into administration, leaving them with a total loss of 21, with two further three-point punishments still hanging over their heads.
One would be for the late payment of wages and the other for any further breach of FFP rules.
Rooney’s under-strength squad have managed 18 points from 17 games, but are now 18 points from safety.
    CON FLAIR
Conor Gallagher says Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira is behind his rise to become an England international.
He said: “Working under Patrick is amazing.
“He was one of the best midfielders in the Premier League so to learn from him and work under him is brilliant.
“He helps me a lot, tactically, and most importantly, which is really good, is how he knows my strengths and tells me what to do in terms of that.
“So I am allowed to make the box and do what I do best which is part of the reason why I’ve had a good start to the season.”
    IN THE DOCK
Ex-England star Gareth Barry has been charged by the FA over an alleged secret deal to buy a half stake in Swindon.
The former Manchester City and Aston Villa hero could face a ban from working in football if the case goes against him.
Barry, 40, faced no action seven months ago when the League Two outfit, ex-chairman Lee Power and Barry’s agent Michael Standing were rapped by the FA.
But behind the scenes football’s ruling body have investigated claims made in court by Power that Barry stumped up £800,000 to buy into Swindon in 2013.
Barry has denied investing in Swindon or agreeing to a deal with Power.
At the time he was playing for Everton and such an investment would have breached FA club ownership rules.

    CROWN JULES
Sevilla chief Jose Castro insists Chelsea will have to pay top dollar to land Jules Kounde in January.
The Blues remain keen on signing the French defender after being priced out of a move on deadline day.
But Sevilla are refusing to budge from their £68million valuation.
Castro said: “We’re not going to change our position.
“If the proposal we receive is out of market, we will sell our players to sign new ones.”
