    To be Frank
Manchester United should make a move for Barcelona star Frenkie De Jong if Paul Pogba leaves.
That’s the opinion of former Liverpool and England star John Barnes, who thinks the 24-year-old Dutchman ‘has everything’.
Pogba is out of contract with United at the end of the season, and has given little indication he is ready to stick around.
And if he does decide to leave United for a second time, Barnes thinks De Jong is the perfect replacement.
Speaking to BonusCodeBets, the 58-year-old said: “Frenkie de Jong would be a brilliant signing for Manchester United.
“He has everything in terms of passing range, intensity and a great attitude. It’s exactly what Manchester United need in midfield.
“That was their plan with Donny Van de Beek, but of course he’s been stifled by other players in his position playing better than him.”
    Aint over
Ainsley Maitland-Niles could be set for a January loan move to Roma after ‘contact’ has reportedly been made with Arsenal.
A move to Everton in the summer failed to materialise after he angrily took to social media expressing his intentions to be playing regular football.
And after limited opportunities during the first half of the season, ESPN report that Roma are keen on a January move for the 24-year-old.
Club sporting director Tiago Pinto is claimed to favour an initial six-month loan deal, with the option of making it a permanent transfer.
A four-year contract has been touted, although negotiations for a future permanent fee are yet to progress.
    Ou are ya?
Ousmane Dembele will NOT be joining Manchester United, with the Barcelona winger reportedly set to put pen-to-paper on a new contract.
The Frenchman has previously been linked with a move to Manchester United, but has now agreed a new five-year deal at Barcelona on a lower weekly wage.
According to Spanish outlet SPORT, the 24-year-old will sign a new contract next month.
By taking on a lower wage the wide-man will help reduce Barca’s overall wage bill, therefore helping to fund new signings.
    Un-bar-lievable lineup
Manchester United almost managed to get Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to link-up… for Barcelona.
Portuguese superstar Ronaldo shattered football’s transfer record in 2009 when he left Old Trafford to join Real Madrid for £80million.
Los Blancos had already splashed out on Karim Benzema, Xabi Alonso and Ballon d’Or winner Kaka in response to Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering debut season as Nou Camp chief the year before.
But they were almost denied the jewel in returning president’s Florentino Perez’s masterplan if Sir Alex Ferguson had got his way.
The legendary Scot was desperate to avoid losing Ronaldo to Real once he’d accepted that the former Sporting Lisbon winger was set to leave.
Fergie had even said back in 2008 that he wouldn’t sell Madrid a ‘virus’ let alone his best player.
And according to Spanish newspaper AS, the United boss realised at the time that Barcelona were the only other club who could afford Ronaldo.

    Kal it off
Kalvin Phillips is ready to turn down interest from Manchester United in order to pen a new deal with boyhood club Leeds.
The England star, 26, has been linked with a move to Old Trafford as interim boss Ralf Rangnick eyes midfield reinforcements.
But Phillips himself has revealed he wants to stay at Elland Road.
The midfielder is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, and told the Mail: “I just want to focus on getting back fit, but I speak to the owner regularly.
“I want a new contract. I’m very happy here.”
    Gunners striker search
Summer big-spenders Arsenal are preparing to splash the cash again in January as they target a statement signing up front, writes Giacomo Pisa.
Mikel Arteta has reportedly drawn up a three-man striker shortlist, with Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri viewed as a cheaper alternative to Dusan Vlahovic and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been frozen out since being stripped of the captain’s armband, and is linked with a move to Barcelona or Juventus.
Meanwhile Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are out-of-contract in the summer, leaving Arsenal in desperate need of a marquee signing up front.
And transfer chief Edu has Fiorentina ace Vlahovic and Calvert-Lewin on a shortlist alongside En-Nesyri.
Buffon keen on Mexico or MLS
Gianluigi Buffon is aiming to play in North America before he hangs up his gloves for good.
The Italian turns 44 next month but still has the desire to improve and play regularly.

He moved back to Parma last summer, the club he began his career at, but even bigger adventures could await.
Speaking to TUDN, Buffon said: ‘I’d like to play in Mexico or the United States, but I’d already have stopped if I had the Champions League.
“I would like to play in Mexico or the United States.
“These are experiences I would like to try, but we’ll see what happens.
“If you ask me what I’ll do in future, the truth is I don’t yet know if it’ll be as a manager or a coach. Knowing me, what I do want now is to keep improving.
“Not winning the Champions League keeps my competitive spirit alive.
“Perhaps if I had won the Champions League, I might’ve already retired, because I would have no more important objectives to reach.”
Buffon has won 28 trophies in his career including the World Cup but a Champions league medal has eluded him.
Buffon: Juve ‘lost their DNA’ with Ronaldo
Gianluigi Buffon blames Cristiano Ronaldo for Juventus ‘losing their DNA’ and team ethic.
Legendary keep Buffon claims the Italian champs were no longer a squad pulling tougher and fighting for their places during Ron’s 2018-21 stint.

Ronaldo is now back at Manchester United, still firing in the goals at 36 but sparking questions over his suitability to team tactics.
And the Azzurri’s 176-cap icon Buffon, 43, now with Parma, told TUDN : “Juventus had the chance to win the Champions League the first year he arrived, which was the year I was at Paris Saint-Germain, and I couldn’t figure out what happened.
“When I returned, I worked with Ronaldo for two years and we did well together, but I think Juventus lost that DNA of being a team.
“We reached the Champions League final in 2017 because we were a side full of experience.
“But above all we were a single unit and there was this competition for places within the group that was very strong. We lost that with Ronaldo.”
    Jose in Nigeria boss talks
The Nigerian FA have spoken to Jose Mourinho about the prospect of becoming the new manager of the national team, their chief has revealed.
The Super Eagles are managerless after sacking Gernot Rohr earlier this month, with the African Cup of Nations just weeks away.

Amaju Pinnick, president of the Nigerian FA, wants to appoint a manager who can instil discipline into the squad as Nigeria look to win AFCON for the first time since 2013.
And Pinnick revealed they have targeted Roma boss Mourinho ahead of the tournament.
He told Nigerian outlet the Daily Trust: “The emphasis on the new coach is discipline.
“We will also look at how hungry he is to win trophies because if they are hungry it supersedes so many things and if he wants to win he will instil discipline.
“Of course Mourinho – I am not going to tell you we didn’t talk to Mourinho because we did and the (sports) minister also talked to Mourinho and there is nothing wrong with it.
“If the coach will give us the Nations Cup, he will be drafted in immediately.
    Hammers eye up ”bodybuilder’
West Ham line up transfer for Austrian ‘bodybuilder’ Flavius Daniliuc in January as emergency centre-back reinforcement
WEST HAM are reportedly looking to sign Nice defender Flavius Daniliuc in the January transfer window to bolster David Moyes’ defensive options.

The Hammers want to sign a centre-back to cover Angelo Ogbonna, who picked up a serious ACL injury against Liverpool.
According to The Athletic’s Roshane Thomas, West Ham want to sign Daniliuc, 20, who has been described as a ‘bodybuilder’.
The former Bayern Munich man clearly enjoys his time in the gym and shouldn’t struggle to adapt to the physicality of the Premier League.
Moyes is also without summer signing Kurt Zouma, who joined from Chelsea for a near £30million.
Left-back Aaron Cresswell’s return from injury is also unknown.
Hammers Head of Recruitment Rob Newman is clearly hard at work trying to identify the right targets to bolster Moyes’ squad to sustain a push for European football.
But Moyes’ assistant Stuart Pearce has insisted only ‘the right people’ will be brought to the London Stadium.
    Palace Boxing
Tottenham’s Boxing Day clash at home to Crystal Palace will now be show live on BT Sport.
The broadcaster has plugged a hole after losing the Leeds versus Liverpool game after the Yorkshire side were hit by coronavirus cases.
And good news for Spurs and Palace fans is that the game will stay as a 3pm kick-off.
It will be the only Premier League game shown by BT Sport on Boxing day.
Following the all-London clash is a non-league game between Bromley and Southend.
Toon linked to ex-Utd loanee Ighalo
Newcastle are interested in signing former Manchester United star Odio Ighalo, according to reports.
The striker, 32, currently plays for Saudi Arabian side Al Shabab and has top scored in the league this season with nine goals.

He moved to the Middle East after his loan spell at United came to an end – he scored five goals in 23 games for the Red Devils.
And he would be open to a move to St. James’ Park, report Sky Sports.
Al Shabab have reportedly spoken to Ighalo about a potential move with Eddie Howe’s 19th-placed side in desperate need of new signings.
The January transfer window is fast approaching and Newcastle continue to be linked with a host of names.
The latest is Tottenham defender Joe Rodon who could be allowed to leave on loan.
Lille centre-back Sven Botman is also rumoured to be a top target, with the Magpies also keen to sign a right-back, potentially Kieran Trippier.
United could rival Newcastle for Trippier however, with both clubs also targeting Barcelona ace Moussa Dembele.
And his team-mate Philippe Coutinho is another player the Toon have their eye on as they look to avoid the drop.
Karim ‘as good as Ronaldo and Haaland’
Karim Benzema is playing at the ‘same level as Manchester United hero Cristiano Ronaldo and Red Devils’ target Erling Haaland’, according to his Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti.
France striker Benzema still appears in his prime at 34.

And amid a sensational season, boss Ancelotti reckons Benzema is currently the world’s top frontman.
Benzema netted twice as Wedensday’s 2-1 win over Athletic Bilbao left Real eight points clear in LaLiga,
Asked after the game if he believed Benzema was the best, Ancelotti told AS: “I think so.
“He has added a massive, regular ability to put the ball in the back of the net to his game.
“He’s at the level of Cristiano Ronaldo or Haaland.
“Benzema is a player who makes a difference.
“We saw it once again in the game against Athletic, with two goals in quick succession. “He’s in amazing form.”
Benzema has scored a staggering 20 goals in just 23 games for Real Madrid this season.
    Martial ‘agrees Sevilla switch’
Unsettled Manchester United striker Anthony Martial has agreed a January switch to Sevilla, reports say.
Barcelona and especially Juventus have been linked with the France striker in recent weeks.
But the 26-year-old is thought to prefer Sevilla as he wants regular football, rather than risking a fringe role as with United this season.
And the claim today is that the second-placed LaLiga side have all but sealed a deal for next month.
    England’s blow-out
Kalvin Phillips has revealed he thought England would ‘blow Italy away’ in the Euro 2020 final after Luke Shaw’s early goal.
The Three Lions left-back smashed the home heroes in front after just two minutes at Wembley.

In that moment, Phillips genuinely believed England would be lifting their first-ever European Championship crown.
But Leonardo Bonucci equalised with a little over 20 minutes to play before Italy won on penalties.
Such is the confidence of the current crop of England stars, Phillips told Sportsmail: “I thought, ‘We’ll get three or four here, we’re gonna blow them away’.
“But then they started passing the ball and moving it from side to side…
“By half-time, I was like, ‘Jesus Christ, these are good’.”
Phillips remained on the Wembley turf to watch Italy celebrate their glory.
And the Leeds ace revealed Gareth Southgate urged the squad to watch the painful scenes unfold as inspiration for future tournaments.
Phillips continued: “The manager said that he was proud of us, we’ve come a long way.
“He said it would hurt now but if we work as hard as we did during the Euros there is no reason why we can’t win something.
“But he told us to look at Italy celebrating, that is what it’s all about. So I did.
“I watched Italy lift the trophy and it made me feel like I want to be in that position.”
    Blue must be kidding
Ex-Chelsea chief Michael Emenalo claimed a former manager tried to CLOSE the club’s academy.
Frank Lampard put his trust in the youth during his debut season in 2019-20 after the club were put under a transfer embargo – and managed to guide the young Blues into the Champions League.

And Chelsea have continued to have impress ever since – now under the leadership of Thomas Tuchel – with academy graduates Mason Mount, Reece James, Andreas Christensen and Callum Hudson-Odoi, to name a few, all shining.
The Blues are challenging for the Premier League title in 2021-22 on the back of their Champions League glory last term.
But things could have turned out differently had a former boss succeeded in persuading Roman Abramovich to pull the plug on his youth funding.
Emenalo, who served as Chelsea’s technical director between 2011 and 2017 after spending the previous four years as chief scout and assistant first team coach, worked above the likes of Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte and Roberto Di Matteo.
He claims Abramovich was urged to ditch his academy and focus instead on pouring money into the first team.
But the Russian did not listen to his manager, and Emenalo reckons the decision is proving to be one of his best ever.
    Eden back to Lille?
Eden Hazard could be offered a shock return to Lille in January by Real Madrid as part of a transfer swap with Jonathan David.
Belgian attacker Hazard joined the Spanish giants in 2019 for a bumper £89million from Chelsea but has failed to make an impact at the Bernabeu.
Marca report that Los Blancos are chasing Lille’s 21-year-old’s star David.
The Canadian international has been linked with them for several months following his stunning form.
He has scored 13 goals in Ligue 1 this term – more than both Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi – and his agent has confirmed this will be his final campaign at the club.
Nick Mavromaras said: “For us, the goal is to finish the season with Lille, but it will be his last season there for various reasons. I think the Premier League is a great option for him.
“I think he also likes Spain a lot, because he likes the feeling of the ball. He’s a very technical player.”
And that could open the door to a stunning swap deal between Madrid and Lille involving Hazard.
Spurs vs Palace now on TV
Tottenham’s Boxing Day clash at home to Crystal Palace will now be show live on BT Sport.
The broadcaster has plugged a hole after losing the Leeds versus Liverpool game after the Yorkshire side were hit by coronavirus cases.
And good news for Spurs and Palace fans is that the game will stay as a 3pm kick-off.
It will be the only Premier League game shown by BT Sport on Boxing day.
Following the all-London clash is a non-league game between Bromley and Southend.
    Rudiger ‘perfect’ for Red Devils
Ex-Manchester United defender Paul Parker believes Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger would be the ‘perfect signing’ for his old club.
The German centre-back, 28, is out of contract in June and is attracting plenty of interest from around Europe.

Despite numerous talks, the star is yet to reach an agreement with Chelsea.
Speculation has been mounting that Real Madrid are ‘pushing’ to seal a free transfer move for Rudiger with Paris Saint-Germain also interested.
But Parker, who spent five years at right-back for United, has urged his old employers to launch a move of their own for him.
And he explained that he believes a partnership between Rudiger and Raphael Varane at the back could help get the Red Devils back challenging for the title.
The ex-England ace told bettingexpert: “If he was to stay at Chelsea. He’s very influential and the fans idolise him.
“To come to Manchester United, I would say that is ambitious. I would understand why he would want to and I think he would make a difference.
“If you had him next to Varane, what a difference you’re talking about. Good pace and you’re talking about someone who’s won a World Cup, Champions League and then you’ve got a centre-half, who in the old-school way of talking is actually a leader.”
Parker added: “He actually shouts and screams, bosses people about, dictates the people.
“When people aren’t doing it, he tells them because he doesn’t make that many mistakes himself. He keeps things simple. He’d be absolutely perfect.
“It all depends on him being ambitious. Does he want to go to Manchester United and be the difference-maker at the back?
    The Brits are thriving abroad
Gareth Southgate has quite a task keeping tabs on all the English talent outside of the Premier League.
That’s because there are a gang of Three Lions making an impression on foreign soil.
SunSport has selected a best XI made up of English players currently playing abroad.
And it includes former Man United star Chris Smalling, as well as rumoured target Jude Bellingham.
Barca want Ferran as a striker
Ferran Torres will reportedly be tasked with leading the line for Barcelona should his move from Manchester City go through next month.
The Spanish giants have agreed a £55million deal with the Citizens to bring the 21-year-old back to Spain – less than two years after arriving in England.
City prised the 22-cap Spain international away from Valencia in August 2020, with the forward scoring 16 goals in 43 games under Pep Guardiola.
But he is now poised to depart in January after Barca took out a bank loan in order to secure his services.
Predominantly a winger, Torres will be given a central role at the Nou Camp under boss Xavi.
That is according to Sport, who claim that the ex-Al Sadd gaffer wants his compatriot to be Barcelona’s new No9.
    Toon targeting defender in January
Newcastle are looking to bolster their backline in January as they aim to beat the drop with Lille centre-back Sven Botman their top target.
The Magpies are planning to splash the cash in the New Year following their Saudi-backed £300million takeover in October.
Eddie Howe’s side currently sit 19th in the Premier League table – three points off safety having won just once out of their opening 18 matches.
No team has conceded more than Newcastle’s 41 top-flight goals this term, with the Toon now preparing to bolster their backline.
Lille star Botman, 21, is understood to be their No1 priority, though it is understood that the Dutch youth international could cost up to £40m.
And according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle have contacted Ligue 1 outfit Lille about bringing him to St James’ Park.
He tweeted: “Newcastle are planning to sign one or two centre backs in January.
“Dutch defender Sven Botman is still top of the list, waiting for an answer from Lille about final price tag.”
    BT Sport select new game
Tottenham’s Boxing Day clash at home to Crystal Palace will now be show live on BT Sport.
The broadcaster has plugged a hole after losing the Leeds versus Liverpool game after the Yorkshire side were hit by coronavirus cases.
And good news for Spurs and Palace fans is that the game will stay as a 3pm kick-off.
It will be the only Premier League game shown by BT Sport on Boxing day.
Following the all-London clash is a non-league game between Bromley and Southend.
    New contract for United starlet
Anthony Elanga has signed a new deal with Manchester United to keep him at the club until 2026.
The 19-year-old winger, who has made three appearances so far this season, also has the option of an extra year.
Elanga joined Man Utd in 2014 as a young teenager and went on to make his competitive debut for the senior side in May of this year.
He then went on to score his first goal for the Red Devils in their final Premier League game of last season against Wolves.
Interim boss Ralf Rangnick has been impressed by the 19-year-old since arriving at the club earlier this month.

Newcastle want Ighalo, Phillips declares loyalty to Leeds, Chelsea eye Kimpembe, Ferran Torres £55m Barcelona transfer

NEWCASTLE are interested in a January swoop for Odion Ighalao, according to reports. The ex-Manchester United striker, 32, currently plays for Saudi Arabian side Al Shabab and is the top scorer in the league this season with nine goals.
Elsewhere, Kalvin Phillips has confirmed he will stay at Leeds and will sign a new contract if the club offer it to him tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are planning on raiding PSG for defender Presnel Kimpembe, according to reports.
Blues boss Thomas Tuchel managed the centre-back during his time as PSG coach.
And the German boss wants Kimpembe, 26, to replace Antonio Rudiger who is out of contract next summer and tipped to leave Stamford Bridge, according to L’Equipe.
When does the January transfer window open and close?
The transfer window opens on January 1 and closes on the 31st at 11pm.
Clubs will be able to sign and sell players during that time, with the Premier League’s winter break due to take place while the final week of the window is going on.

    Catalan clear-out in January
Barcelona are set to get rid of FIVE players in the January window as they prepare to raise funds to sign Manchester City forward Ferran Torres.
The LaLiga outfit have agreed a £50million deal to bring the Spaniard to the Nou Camp.
However, they need to recoup some money through transfer fees and make room on the wage bill in order to abide by LaLiga’s financial fair play regulations.
Philippe Coutinho, Luuk de Jong, Sergino Dest, Samuel Umtiti and Yusuf Demir could all be set to depart next month.
    Improving just a Lille bit
City star set for new role
Ferran Torres will reportedly be tasked with leading the line for Barcelona should his move from Manchester City go through next month.
The Spanish giants have agreed a £55million deal with the Citizens to bring the 21-year-old back to Spain – less than two years after arriving in England.
City prised the 22-cap Spain international away from Valencia in August 2020, with the forward scoring 16 goals in 43 games under Pep Guardiola.

That is according to Sport, who claim that the ex-Al Sadd gaffer wants his compatriot to be Barcelona’s new No9.

    Burnley vs Everton is OFF
Burnley’s Boxing Day clash with Everton has become the latest fixture to fall foul of the Covid wave sweeping the Premier League.
The match had been scheduled to kick-off at 3pm on Sunday at Turf Moor.
But a Premier League statement read: “Everton were due to travel to Turf Moor to play on Sunday, at 3pm. The Board reviewed the Club’s request today to postpone the match following further injuries to their squad.
“They concluded that the club will not be able to fulfil their fixture this weekend as a result of an insufficient number of players available to play due to COVID-19 cases and injuries.
“The Board this morning was able to make its decision in advance of Boxing Day to give clarity to clubs and their fans.
“We apologise for the inconvenience and disruption caused to those supporters’ festive plans.”
    Willy or won’t he stay?
Southampton look set to extend the contract of former Argentina international Willy Caballero.
The ex-Manchester City and Chelsea stopper signed a short-term deal at St Mary’s until January 5 earlier this month after Saints experienced a goalkeeper crisis.
Caballero endured a debut to forget with a 3-0 defeat at Arsenal but impressed in the 2-2 draw at Crystal Palace last time out and could now remain at Southampton for the rest of the campaign.
Ralph Hasenhuttl revealed: “It would make sense, definitely and this is what we have in our mind to extend his contract also. I am sure he can help us for a longer term.
“He showed on the pitch he can help us. He played two games, against Palace you could see with every game he gets better, with every game he gets more self-confidence. This is what you need when you step in.”
Injuries to Alex McCarthy and Fraser Forster saw Southampton turn to Caballero but one-time England goalkeeper Forster has returned to training which will leave Hasenhuttl with a decision to make ahead of Sunday’s trip to West Ham.
    CON-NED
Antonio Conte reckons yesterday’s meeting of Premier League managers was a ‘waste of time’.
Top-flight bosses met to discuss a range of pressing issues, including Covid, players’ welfare and fixture congestion.
But Conte was left less than impressed, suggesting the talks were like speaking into a brick wall.
The disgruntled Tottenham manager said: “Yesterday was a wall.
“A waste of time? I think so.
“When you have a wall in front of you, you can speak and ask what you want but the decisions had already been taken.”
    Roy Keane on relegation scrap
Roy Keane believes that there are five teams battling it out this term for Premier League survival.
The former Manchester United captain, 50, is adamant both Newcastle and Norwich City will be relegated come the end of the season.
When asked for his relegation picks by Micah Richards during their latest Driving Home for Christmas episode, the Irishman said: “I’ll tell you, I’m going to go Norwich, and I’m going to say Newcastle.”
Keane then brought three other sides into the mix as he predicted the trio would be battling to avoid the final spot.
Discussing Southampton, he said: “They are a moody team, they can win two or three at home then lose six or seven.
“I’m going to say It’s between Southampton and Watford.
“But even Burnley. Burnley’s points total… But you know, Burnley could be one of them teams where because they have got out of it before, you automatically think ‘oh they will get out it’ and they don’t.”

    Premier League beckons for Trippier
Man Utd and Tottenham are among a whopping NINE Premier League clubs reportedly interested in Kieran Trippier.
90Min claims Ralf Rangnick is eager to sign the Atletico Madrid right-back next month.
But United face strong competition from Trippier’s old side Tottenham.
Newcastle are also keen, as are six other top English outfits.
    Pep won’t sign Torres replacement
Pep Guardiola says he is ‘happy’ for Ferran Torres and his Barcelona move – but the Man City boss won’t be signing a replacement.
Guardiola explained: “No we are not going to bring a striker in January.
“I have the feeling that when Barcelona or Real Madrid knock on the door of players then it is difficult to say no.
“He is from Spain, Barcelona knock and I understand why he wants to leave.
“If he wants to leave, absolutely I am not disappointed. It is his desire. If the clubs reach an agreement, I am happy for him.”

    Tragedy as Oman footballer dies
Oman international Mukhaled Al-Raqadi has passed away after collapsing during the warm-up of a domestic top flight match.
The Muscat defender reportedly suffered a heart attack ahead of his side’s Omantel league clash with Suwaiq.
The 29-year-old was taken to hospital by ambulance but sadly died following the incident on Wednesday.
Muscat announced the news of Al-Raqadi’s death with a heartfelt message on Twitter.
It read: “With faithful hearts accepting of God’s will, the board of directors of Muscat sports club and all its affiliates extend their sincere condolences to the family of Al-Raqadi.
“We ask God to have mercy on him. To God we belong and to God we shall return.”
    Coutinho set for shock move?
Everton have joined the race to sign out-of-favour Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho.
The Brazil international appears to be heading for the Nou Camp exit after struggling for game time under new boss Xavi.
The club legend is setting about a rebuild after the disastrous reign of former manager Ronald Koeman.
And with a squad packed with young attacking talent, there is little room for the 29-year-old Coutinho.
That has set alarm bells ringing among a host of Premier League clubs, with the Toffees the latest to cast their eye in the forward’s direction.
Spanish outlet AS reports the ex-Liverpool star could be about to move to the blue half of Merseyside.
Spurs condemned for ticket price change
Tottenham have been slammed by their Supporters Trust after removing senior and young adult ticket prices for upcoming cup clashes.
In previous ties this season, the Lilywhites have offered concession prices for those aged between 18-21 and over 65.
For their Europa Conference League group matches earlier this season a concession ticket cost £20.
But the option has since been removed, with every fan aged 18 or over now having to pay the full £25 for the FA Cup third round clash with Morecambe and the League Cup semi-final second leg against Chelsea.
The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust was quick to notice this change in pricing policy.
They tweeted: “Seems the Christmas spirit is very much lacking at @SpursOfficial. Quietly removing concessionary pricing for Seniors and Young Adults for both Morecambe and Chelsea home cup games is a low move for one of the richest Clubs in the world. Do better, Spurs. Much better.”
    Premier League’s Boxing Day fixtures
    Boxing Day:Liverpool v Leeds – PostponedWolves v Watford – PostponedBurnley v EvertonMan City v LeicesterNorwich v ArsenalTottenham v Crystal PalaceWest Ham v SouthamptonAston Villa v Chelsea (17:30 GMT)Brighton v Brentford (17:30 GMT)
    Calls for one leg semi-finals
Both Jurgen Klopp and Antonio Conte have called for the Carabao Cup semi-final to be cut to just one leg.
Liverpool proceeded into the last four after an exhausting 3-3 draw with Leicester, which they won on penalties.
Tottenham meanwhile, booked their place by beating London rivals West Ham.
They are now set to face Chelsea over two legs in another derby, while Liverpool will play Arsenal, with a week separating both ties.
But Klopp and Conte are not happy with the fixture pile-up.
    Why Man Utd sacked Solskjaer
Manchester United’s football director John Murtough says a ‘turbulent’ few months hastened the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Explaining the decision to sack Solskjaer, Murtough told a forum of fans: “It’s certainly been a turbulent period since we last met in September. We were all feeling optimistic at that time about the strong start to the season.
“There were grounds for confidence that we were going to continue building on the progress we saw in the prior two seasons. But after the promising early-season results, things went off plan.
“As a club, we felt Ole had earned the right to be given the chance to turn things round, but didn’t get a reaction after the international break, and the Watford game made it clear change was needed.
“We’re all disappointed at Ole’s departure, but he deserves to be judged on his record over the past three years, not his last few weeks.
“He re-set the club’s culture and reshaped the squad, leaving us in a stronger position today than when he returned in 2018.”
    David eyes Premier League move
Jonathan David will leave Lille at the end of the season – putting Premier League clubs on notice, his agent said.
Already this season, the forward has 15 goals in 26 appearances, attracting transfer attention from across Europe.
He is contracted with Lille until 2025, but his agent revealed they will push to leave next summer.
Nick Mavromaras said on Radio Canada: “For us, the goal is to finish the season in Lille, but it will be his last season there for several reasons.
“I think the Premier League is a good option for him. I think that he likes Spain a lot also because he likes the feeling of the ball and the very technical players. These two leagues are a big priority for him, but nothing is excluded.”
Real Madrid and Arsenal are among the club believed to be tracking the Canadian international.
    Juventus eye Man Utd duo
Juventus are keeping close tabs on Manchester United’s unsettled strikers Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial.
The duo have both found their opportunities limited this season following the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo.
And the Italian giants are looking to strengthen their squad after dropping well off the pace in their domestic title race.
With money tight, reports in Italy suggest they are looking to recruit players who have fallen out of favour with their clubs.
So both Martial, 26, and 34-year-old Cavani would fit the bill as they have slipped down the pecking order at United.
    Best out-of-contract XI
Premier League clubs will soon be able to negotiate with some of the world’s top talent.
From January 1, teams won’t need to have a bid accepted to begin negotiating with players that have entered the final six months of their contract.
If talks are successful, stars can be signed on pre-contracts.
Here is the best team that can be fielded from those who are entering the final months of their contracts.

    Two Boxing Day games postponed
The Premier League’s Boxing Day schedule has already taken a huge hit with TWO games called off.
Liverpool’s clash with Leeds and Wolves vs Watford have both been postponed. The Premier League confirmed neither Leeds nor Watford have enough players to fulfil the Sunday 12.30pm game.
A statement read: “Following postponement requests from Leeds United and Watford as a result of Covid-19, the Premier League Board met this morning and regrettably agreed to call off the two affected clubs’ Boxing Day fixtures.
“The two matches are Wolverhampton Wanderers v Watford and Liverpool v Leeds United, both due to be played on Sunday at 12:30 GMT.
“The Board today was able to make its decisions in advance of Boxing Day to give clarity to clubs and their supporters. We apologise for the inconvenience and disruption caused to those fans’ festive plans.
“The League is aware that the decision to postpone these two matches will disappoint supporters and understands their frustrations at a special time of year when fans look forward to attending and watching football games.”
    Messi’s goal drought at PSG
Lionel Messi appears to be feeling the effects of leaving boyhood club Barcelona over the summer.
The Argentina superstar joined Paris Saint-Germain after one of the most stunning transfer sagas in football history.
He smashed a staggering 672 goals during his 778 games as a Barca player.
But now at PSG he is enduring the least productive start to a league season in his career so far.
The 34-year-old is averaging a goal every 865 minutes for his new club in Ligue 1.
He has netted just once in 11 games for the French giants.
    Bale hails ‘best ever’ Ronaldo
Gareth Bale overlooked every former Spurs team-mate when he named Cristiano Ronaldo as the best player he’s ever played with.
The pair linked up for a number of supremely successful seasons at Real Madrid.
And Bale has hailed the Portuguese superstar for his incredible ability.
He said: “Cristiano Ronaldo. For me, just the amount of goals he scores and the titles that we won together.
“I think arguably one of the best ever to play football. For me, I will have to say him.”

    Prem clubs affected by AFCON
The Africa Cup of Nations is set to go ahead next month despite Covid concerns following crunch talks.
And that could have a major impact on a number of Premier League clubs and their respective fights at both ends of the table.
Liverpool are set to be hit the hardest, losing Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane – as well as Naby Keita – in what could be a major blow in their fight to regain the Prem title.
But a number of other clubs are set to lose key players for four weeks – with the tournament taking place in Cameroon between January 9 and February 6.
We take a look at how every Prem club will be affected by Afcon via this link.
    Could it be Barca’s Dest-iny?
Barcelona are reportedly weighing up a swap deal for versatile right-back Sergino Dest.
The LaLiga giants are said to be considering a move for Ajax’s Noussair Mazraoui, with Dest heading in the opposite direction.
But a swap could be thwarted by interest from Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich.
ESPN reports Bayern are interested in bringing the USA international to the Allianz Arena after missing out on his signature last year.
The 21-year-old left Ajax for the Nou Camp back in October 2020 after opting for Spain over Germany.
But the Bavarian outfit have stayed in touch and even sounded the player out about a potential loan move earlier this year.
    Silva on Mbappe at Monaco
Bernardo Silva has revealed that he knew Kylian Mbappe was ‘different’ from his very first training session at Monaco.
Explaining the World Cup winner’s instant impact, Manchester City and former Monaco star Silva said: “So Kylian when he arrived, when he arrived at the first team for the first training sessions he was like 16-years-old.
“I remember after the first or the second training session that he had with us, I remember going to (Joao) Moutinho and both of us were like ‘wow, who is that kid?’
“He was really special, because you could see from the beginning that was different. And he wasn’t afraid of coming at us, coming at the older guys and dribbling two or three guys in the training session.
“Normally when you’re 16-years-old you’re a bit afraid of the big guys, and he would go at the defenders and just kill them.
“So yeah, then after two years he started playing more often with us and now he’s one of the best players in the world.”
    Toon’s pursuit of Dembele thwarted
Newcastle have been dealt a blow in their bid to sign Ousmane Dembele – with Barcelona tabling a new contract for the French winger.
The Toon have been chasing a marquee signing in the January window to attract more top players in their desperate attempt to avoid relegation.
But Eddie Howe is set to miss out on Dembele, 24, with Xavi doubling-down on his praise for the injury-prone forward.
Since taking over, the Nou Camp legend has revealed time and time again that he’s a big fan of the 27-cap France ace.
And now, Xavi has put his money where his mouth is by tabling a new contract off for Dembele.
    Januzai set for Prem return?
West Ham and Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing former Manchester United ace Adnan Januzaj.
The 26-year-old’s contract at Real Sociedad expires in the summer of 2022.
And he can negotiate terms over a summer transfer with other teams from January 1.
According to Todofichajes, Januzaj has rejected Sociedad’s latest offer to stay at the club.
The former Man Utd man is keen for a return to the Premier League where he has unfinished business.
And West Ham could offer him just that, and possibly European football next season.
    United dealt Erling Haaland blow
Borussia Dortmund are desperate to keep star striker Erling Haaland for another season.
And the Bundesliga side are reportedly willing to DOUBLE his wages to do so.
The Norwegian is in high demand after his stunning goalscoring exploits since joining in January 2020.
Manchester United and Real Madrid are leading the way in the race to sign him.
But according to Marca, Dortmund are pulling out all the stops.
They claim that the Germans will double Haaland’s wages to £250,000-a-week if it convinces him to give them another year.
    Liverpool seek Colombian Cristiano Ronaldo
Liverpool are interested in signing Luis Diaz from Porto, according to reports.
The Reds are set to be depleted on the flanks next month, when Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane head to the Africa Cup of Nations.
Salah and Mane could jet out before Liverpool’s January 2 clash against Chelsea, with Afcon not finishing until February 6.
According to FourFourTwo, the Reds want to recruit further back-up to the pair in the shape of Diaz.
Dubbed fancifully by some as the ‘Colombian Cristiano Ronaldo’, Diaz could provide the pace and directness of a typical Liverpool winger.
Diaz, 24, has also been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Bayern Munich.
    West Ham lead Johnstone race
Sam Johnstone is reportedly heading for the exit at West Brom in the summer.
The England international is understood to be winding down his contract with the Championship outfit.
That has set alarm bells ringing at West Ham, who are thought to be tracking the 28-year-old’s progress.
The Telegraph reports the Hammers are front of the queue to sign the keeper on a free transfer next year.
Current Irons stopper Lukasz Fabianski turns 37 this season and has already retired from international football.
Three Lions man Johnstone is being seen as an ideal replacement after keeping his spot in Gareth Southgate’s squad despite West Brom’s relegation.
    Arteta concerned over Covid situation
Worried Mikel Arteta warns football could COLLAPSE if players’ concerns over Covid continue to be ignored.
He said: “The main thing is to protect the welfare of the players because we are responsible to defend them more than anyone else.
“It’s important we listen to their concerns much more because, without them, we can do nothing and the industry wouldn’t work.
“It is easy for us to demand more games, but they are the ones who have to perform.
“If the players are saying it is difficult, then they are being genuine because they’ve always tried to carry on and keep this league at the highest standard.
“So when they say something like this we have to really listen to them with open ears because we don’t want to damage the product and the incredible league that we have.”
    Barca hopeful of Dembele extension
Barcelona are confident Ousmane Dembele will sign a contract extension despite interest from Newcastle, according to Fabrizio Romano.
He said: “Newcastle approached Ousmane Dembélé and his agents weeks ago to make a proposal – but the feeling is still optimistic for his contract extension with Barcelona.
“Barça are confident to reach the final agreement in the next days, and Xavi is pushing to keep Ousmane.”
    Buy Carragher a Ronaldo shirt?
Roy Keane has suggested buying Jamie Carragher a Manchester United shirt with Cristiano Ronaldo’s name on the back for Christmas.
Keane, 50, appeared on SkyBet’s Driving Home for Christmas YouTube series alongside Micah Richards.
He was asked by the former Manchester City defender what he’d be buying Carragher for Christmas, before coming up with a brilliant reply.
The ex-Old Trafford skipper said: “A United jersey with Ronaldo on the back, that’d be nice wouldn’t it? Because he’s always slagging him off.”
Keane did go on to admit that Carragher is a ‘decent footballing person’.
Richards then said: “He’s got a strong opinion, he knows what he’s talking about. But Keane joked: “Well, I wouldn’t go that far.”

    Chelsea’s failed summer Marquinhos bid
Chelsea made an audacious £72million bid for PSG star Marquinhos last summer.
L’Equipe claims Thomas Tuchel was desperate for a reunion with his former defender.
But PSG rejected the offer, with Marquinhos one of their key players.
And the Brazilian will end any further speculation by penning a new long-term deal with the French giants.
    United eye Milinkovic-Savic bid
Man United are reportedly plotting to land Sergej Milinkovic-Savic next summer.
Il Messagero claims the midfielder wants to leave Lazio at the end of the season.
And United see him as a potential replacement for Paul Pogba, who has six months left on his contract.
But the Red Devils face a battle to get Milinkovic-Savic, with Real Madrid and Juventus also keen.

    Henderson’s health concerns for players
Jordan Henderson believes that crammed fixture schedules are creating a health hazard for England’s top flight players.
He told BBC Sport: “I don’t think people can appreciate how intense it is until you actually see it first hand.
“Football to us is everything and we want to be able to perform at the highest level every time we set foot on the pitch. And unfortunately, in this period it is difficult to do that.
“I am concerned that nobody really takes player welfare seriously. I think decisions get made – of course we want to play as footballers, we want to get out there and play.
“But I am worried about player welfare and I don’t think anybody does take that seriously enough, especially in this period, when Covid is here.”
Spurs battle Chelsea for De Ligt
Tottenham are reportedly lining up a bid for Juventus centre-half Matthijs de Ligt.
4-4-2 claims Antonio Conte is keen on raiding his former side for the Dutch defender.
Chelsea are also looking to pull off a deal for ex-Ajax starlet De Ligt.
But Juventus are unwilling to sell for less than his £130million release clause.

    Duo battle for Januzaj
West Ham and Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing former Manchester United ace Adnan Januzaj.
The 26-year-old’s contract at Real Sociedad expires in the summer of 2022.
According to Todofichajes, Januzaj has rejected Sociedad’s latest offer to stay at the club.
And he is open to a Premier League return with West Ham.
But Barca are also set to make an offer to keep Januzaj in Spain.
    Real keen on Gomez
Real Madrid are reportedly keeping tabs on Liverpool centre-back Joe Gomez ahead of a potential January move.
But Los Blancos have also shortlisted Antonio Rudiger, Pau Torres and Jules Kounde as they look to shore up their defence.
The Mail claims Gomez is just one of four defenders Real are looking at this winter.
But they could struggle to sign him, with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp determined to keep the centre-back.
    Tor blimey
Barcelona are reportedly closing in on a stunning £50million swoop for Man City forward Ferran Torres.
That’s after the debt-ridden Spaniards were granted permission to take out a ‘huge’ loan.
Guillem Balague claims a transfer is near after Barca agreed to borrow more money ahead of the January window.
However, the deal for Torres means they will be forced to sell at least one current player in order to meet LaLiga Financial Fair Play requirements.
    Newcastle eyeing move for Rodon
Newcastle are reportedly interested in out of favour Tottenham defender Joe Rodon to bolster their defensive ranks.
The Welshman has played just 20 times for Spurs since his 2020 £11million transfer from Swansea.
And according to the Telegraph, Spurs are willing to let the defender leave on loan in January with Newcastle one of the clubs interested in acquiring his services.
The Magpies are deep in a relegation battle to stay in the Premier League, and after the weekend’s defensive display against champions Manchester City, they’re in desperate need of reinforcements.
    Azpilicueta eager for Chelsea stay
Cesar Azpilicueta wants to stay and fight for his place in Chelsea’s starting XI, it’s been claimed.
The Blues skipper has no intention of going elsewhere to play regular first-team football.
That’s according to The Athletic, who claim the 32-year-old Spaniard is eager to stay at Stamford Bridge past the expiration of his contract.
Azpilicueta’s current deal with the west Londoners is set to expire at the end of the season.
Spanish big boys Barcelona are reportedly interested in bringing the two-time Premier League winner to the Nou Camp.
But their bid to acquire his services could be hindered by his desire to remain in west London.
    Mykolenko doing his manager proud
Vitaliy Mykolenko is set to make his boss proud with his impending arrival at Everton.
The Dynamo Kiev youngster is in line for a £17million move to Goodison Park in January.
And manager Mircea Lucescu revealed he was delighted to see one of his academy graduates heading for the Premier League.
He told UA Football: “I am glad that a young player from my team is now moving to Everton. I mean Mykolenko.
“Another 18-19-year-old footballer will take his place. The rest in defence are 19-20 years old. Therefore, we continue to play as a very young team.
“They have to work much harder than experienced ones.”

    Dumfries declined Everton summer offer
Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries has revealed he turned down a move to Everton in the summer in favour of joining the Italians.
The Dutchman has impressed in his debut season in Serie A, leaving Everton fans wondering what might have been.
The 25-year-old told Voetbal International: “It took some time to close the deal, but when it happened, I had goosebumps.
“I was talking to [Mino] Raiola every day, I strongly wanted to join Inter. I had an offer from Everton, but I didn’t think twice about coming here.
“They have a great tradition in Italy and Europe and they are the champions of Italy.
“The city of Milan also had an impact on my choice.”

    Arsenal ‘ready to pay’ £68m
The Gunners are reportedly ‘ready to pay’ £68million to snap up Fiorentina hitman Dusan Vlahovic.
Gazzetta Dello Sport claim Arsenal are willing to pay the fee ‘immediately’ in order to secure a deal for the much wanted forward.
However, a potential issue is the Serbian wanting to stay with the club until the end of the season.
Arsenal meanwhile are in need of reinforcements at the top of the pitch sooner rather than later.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has now been frozen out, with a new striker said to be a priority.
    Newcastle in Jones January enquiry
Manchester United defender Phil Jones is a wanted man, after reports linking him to Benfica surfaced earlier.
And now 90min report that Newcastle have enquired after Jones’ services.
Eddie Howe is desperate for reinforcements in a bid to keep the Magpies in the Premier League.
A loan deal is the most likely option, with the 29-year-old not playing competitive football until January 2020.
    Keane tips City for title
Manchester United legend Roy Keane has backed City to win the league yet again this campaign.
Speaking on Micah Richards & Roy Keane Driving Home for Christmas, Keane said: “We did a game last year. I didn’t write off City, but I said they lost their mojo. Then they won the league like a doddle.
“I know they put in the hard work, but they won it from United being second. I’d never bet against City, I’ve learned my lesson from last year.
“It doesn’t mean Liverpool and Chelsea can’t pip them to the title, but Pep’s the man.
“I look at all the managers and he’s the best.
“You look at Pep’s CV and people say ‘he’s got the best players’, but you still have to manage them, find a style of play. If you were going to pick a team to watch, it’d be Man City.”
    Utd ‘make contact’ with Haaland
Manchester United have ‘made contact’ with Erling Haalan over a possible deal, reports suggest.
According to FourFourTwo, Ralf Rangnick is making it his personal mission to sign Haaland once again, having done so already for RB Salzburg.
Rangick is also said to be good friends with Haaland’s father, Alf-Inge.
It’s understood that the Borussia Dortmund sensation has a £68million release clause inserted in his contract.
And Rangnick is set to personally try and convince the Norwegian to move to Old Trafford.

    Conte tips Dier for greatness
Antonio Conte has said Eric Dier can become ‘one of the best central defenders’ in the world.
Dier, 27, has played in the middle of Conte’s centre-back trio, and has evidently impressed his new boss.
Conte said: “That position is perfect for him. Eric Dier can become one of the best players in the world in that position.
“For sure he needs to work and continue to improve and understand the movement with the defensive line.
“He has to lead more, because in that position you have to speak a lot because you have to stay in the middle, at the back where you can see everything.
“He has a great space for improvement but we are talking about a really good player, strong physically with a good personality and good technically because he was a midfielder.
“This role is perfect for him. He has to continue this way because he can become one of the best central defenders.”

Leicester blew their chance after conceding in injury time and then losing out to a Jota spot-kick.
How will the draw pan out next?
    Deadly serious
Leicester and Liverpool delay the draw further by going to sudden death.
Both sides missed one each in the first ten spot-kicks to finish 4-4.
Now we are in the nail-biting final moments of the clash.
    Ryan Bertrand for Leicester……. misses!
    Next up…
Luke Thomas misses for Leicester so Chelsea’s chances of facing Liverpool rise dramatically.
The Blues just saw off Brentford and the league Cup semi-finals draw is imminent.
Naby Keita runs up and scores for Liverpool ….
    Night drawing in…
There is late drama at the King Power where Leicester and Liverpool have gone to penalties.
    Tielemans and Milner score.
Straight after this we will have the draw for the semi-finals.
James Maddison takes aim and scores too.
    All over.
    Brentford 0-2 Chelsea
An own goal and a penalty end Brentford’s run in the League Cup.
Chelsea started with the kids but had to bring on the big guns to gurantee progress.
Thomas Tuchel beats Thomas Frank in the clash of West London Prem clubs.
    Brentford 0-2 Chelsea
    90. Three additional minutes for the visiting Blues to enjoy bragging rights over their West London rivals.
Brentford have not really lost or gained anything from this, Prem survival is their priority.
Chelsea’s bench was bursting with tired talent that he has had to use to progress as the three debutants failed to flourish.
    Can’t Forrs it
    88. Marcus Forss asks for a penalty after tangling with Chalobah and Kepa in the box.
But the appeal is waved away and their are no strong protests.
The ball races down the other end and Brentford rebuild from the back.
But a looped ball forward is soon at Kepa’s feet as the Blues enjoy possession for the final few minutes.
    Goal Chelsea!
    83. Brentford 0-2 Chelsea.
The ice-cool midfielder stayed true to form and drilled his effort down the middle.
Fernandez tried to wait and guess his plan but he dived to his left and left the rest gaping.
Game, set and match here. Chelsea re strolling through.
    Penalty to Chelsea
Pulisic is bundled over by Bees goalkeeper Fernandez for a clear pen.
Jorginho has stepped up to take advantage.
The Italian sub has scored all six this season…..
    Brentford 1-0 Chelsea
Thomas Frank hurls the dice one last time with Marcus Forss on for Mathias Jensen.
But the damage appears to be done for the home side.
Jansson’s own goal will end their League Cup experience.
But the blame must go to the first-half fowards who blew chances.
    Chelsea goal!
    80. Pontus Jansson slices a clearance into his own goal from just a yard.
Late subs Kante and James link-up down the right, the cross comes in low and hard.
And the defender hacks away with his left foot and it skids up into the roof of his own net.
    Brentford 0-1 Chelsea.
    Brentford 0-0 Chelsea
    79. A real lack of attacking quality tonight has led to a dull tie at this stage.
No Lukakau, Havertz or Werner (no jokes about Timo please), while Toney has been a late sub.
The Bees should have had the game won in the first half but blew delicious chances.
Chelsea’s youth-team experiment didn’t quite get the desired results as they were all hooked for the old guard.
    Brentford 0-0 Chelsea
    76. Chelsea make their final switch by sending N’Golo Kante on for Ross Barkley.
The Blues then break down the left, switch it to the right, James and Kante exchange passes before the Bees briefly clear.
Then Chelsea loan flop Saul commits a handball so he gives away a foul and concedes a yellow card.
    Brentford 0-0 Chelsea
    69. Barkley’s corner is an insult to Premier League football, getting shanked away by the first man guarding the post.
Chelsea’s main have replaced all the toung boys now and they should get the game settled inside the 90 miniutes.
But Brentford will not give up as Mbeumo chases and hastles the visiting defence.
    All change here
    65. Ivan Toney and Christian Norgaard are on for Brentford in place of Yoane Wissa and Vitaly Janelt.
Chelsea teenagers Xavier Simons and Harvey Vale have their pro debuts ended early as they are replaced by Reece James and Mason Mount.
Thomas Tuchel has thrown on another couple of big guns.
And Sergei Canos gets booked, the free kick us punched away and Barkley wins a corner with a deflected shot.
    Brentford 0-0 Chelsea
    65. Chelsea are bombarding the Bees’ box but without much skill or guile.
The home underdogs are standing tall and firm but how long can this last?
Barkley commits a blatant foul and gets punished.
And that allows both sides to make their changes.
Tune in, Ton on, Cup out?
    63. Ivan Toney has warmed up and stripped off his extra layers.
The ruthless Brentford striker has recovered from covid and is ready to return to first team action.
Will Chelsea’s makeshift defence and back-up goalkeeper be able to cope with his pace and finishing?
    Brentford 0-0 Chelsea
    61. Brentford are happily camped in the box absorbing pressure and then explode when Chelsea dither on the ball.
Mbeumo races onto a boomed clearance and almost gets his shot off.
But Azpilicueta provides expert cover to end the threat.
    Brentford 0-0 Chelsea
    59. Brentford blow a corner with a short one that is loftde in and then punched away by Kepa.
But them Barkley commits a silly foul on the edge of the box and the home side gets another chance.
But the delivery is poor and is headed away by the first man.
    Brentford 0-0 Chelsea
    58. You can’t bank on Barkley anymore.
The failing midfield dynamo is gifted a prime shot at goal and taps it tamely into the hands of the Bees’ goalkeeper.
What ever happened to that wonderkid who was going to be the new Gazza?
Corner to the Bees now and the crowd lives in hope once more
    Brentford 0-0 Chelsea
    51. Chelsea have not won the League Cup since 2015 but will fancy their chances if they survive tonight.
Brentford blew three perfect chances in the first half and never looked live recovering from that confidence blow.
Tuchel has sent on a couple of big guns and it now looks like an uphill struggle for the home side.
    Brentford 0-0 Chelsea
    46. The visitors now have XI on the pitch that should be more than capable of winning the second half.
Jorginho, Pulisic, Barkley, Azpilicueta, Chalobah and Alonso are all on the pitch.
The Bees enjoy the first attack of the half but Wissa blows it by ballooning the ball over the bar.

    Szczesny slams cocky Juve teammates
Wojciech Szczesny has fired a warning shot at cocky Juventus team-mates as the Serie A giants battle for a top-four spot.
The Old Lady are well off the pace in the league this campaign, and have a fight on their hands just finishing in a Champions League space.
And Szczesny told broadcaster DAZN: “We worked hard, but I think there’s a lot we need to improve still, both in defence and upfront.
“Sometimes at 1-0 we relax and sit a bit too deep, but that’s not good in the long run, we play arrogantly in those situations and I don’t like it.
“It happened many times, including in Venezia when we conceded.
“We sit too deep in the second half, we can’t keep lowering the level of intensity for 10-15 minutes every time.
“It went alright today, but we dropped two points against Venezia, so we can’t keep doing that.”
    Arsenal ‘open’ to Aubameyang offers
Arsenal are ‘willing to listen’ to offers for former club-captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January, reports suggest.
ESPN claim the club will entertain offers for the 32-year-old in the New Year.
Aubameyang has been linked with a move to Barcelona, who are in need of reinforcements up front.
Juventus too are claimed to be interested, with AC Milan and Inter both monitoring the situation.
The club don’t believe that relations have completely broken down with Aubameyang after stripping him of the captaincy, but remain willing to listen to any offers that come their way.
    Musonda offered services for free
Charly Musonda has revealed he told Chelsea he would play for free in a last ditch effort to stay with the club.
Following talks with Blues legend Petr Cech, who is their current technical director, Musonda decided he would leave at the end of the season.
He said on The Beautiful Game Podcast: “I spoke with the manager and I obviously knew what he thought of me in training.
“I explained to him the same thing, I will play here for free. It’s not to do with the contract, I will literally play for free this year.
“I can be the last guy in the squad. Train hard, basically build my way through training, pay with the 23s, get some fitness back and from there see.
“It’s a long season, there’s a lot of games. I’m not even asking to start those games, I was just saying, if I can come on, get 15, 20 minutes here and there.
“He (Tuchel) understood. We had a good chat and he said, “Listen, it’s not up to me. The contract talks are something else’.”
    Xavi building something at Barca
Struggling Barcelona could be on the verge of building something ‘special’.

New boss Xavi is trying to breathe new life into a Barca side that sits seventh in LaLiga.
And he boasts among his squad the likes of European Golden Boy Pedri and the teenager dubbed as his heir in midfield, Gavi.
Lopetegui said: “I seriously doubt that signing players from outside they’ll be able to find anyone like those (kids they have).”
    Jordan Henderson player welfare concerns
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has voiced his concerns over the welfare of Premier League players in an interview with the BBC.
The Christmas schedule in the UK is famously hectic, and Henderson has spoken about just how difficult it is on players.
He said: “I don’t think people can appreciate how intense it is until you actually see it first hand.
“Football to us is everything and we want to be able to perform at the highest level every time we set foot on the pitch. And unfortunately, in this period it is difficult to do that.
“That has been like this for a few years now and it has been difficult but then, on top of that, you chuck in Covid and it becomes even harder and even worse.
“I am concerned that nobody really takes player welfare seriously.
    Liverpool join Utd in chase
Manchester United are set to battle old rivals Liverpool for the signature of Dortmund wonderkid Erling Haaland.
The striker is understood to be available for as little as £64million if a potential buyer can match that trigger.
And Sky Sports report that Liverpool have entered the fray as they search for a genuine No.9 to lead the line.
Both Premier League giants will also face competition from Spain’s heavyweights in a likely bidding war.
Real Madrid are known to have been in contact with Dortmund over a possible move.
And Barcelona are hopeful their close ties with the player’s agent Mino Raiola can tempt the player in their direction.

Antonio Conte is yet to green-light a transfer though as he wants to continue assessing the wide-man in training.

Dalot has impressed under Rangnick, starting in both Premier League games since the German arrived at the club.
The 22-year-old had been largely frozen out under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
But now Rangnick seems to prefer him to Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and sees him as part of his plans.

    Dembele to stay at Barca
Ousmane Dembele has chosen to turn down transfer interest from the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool in order to stay at Barcelona.
The Frenchman is out-of-contract at the end of the season and had been linked with a move away.
Barca though were always keen for Dembele to sign a new deal.
And now it seems that they have got their wish, with the wide-man looking like he is close to agreeing terms to stay.
As cited by Barca Universal, Xavi said: “I feel positive with him again.

    Kenedy close to permanent exit
Chelsea exile Kenedy could be about to swap his loan deal for a permanent move away from Stamford Bridge.
The winger is currently on loan at Brazilian side Flamengo, but Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar Donetsk are reportedly lining up a bid when the window reopens next month.
New boss Roberto De Zerbi is understood to have singled out the 25-year-old as a top name on his transfer shortlist.
The Italian will soon be without forwards Dentinho and Marlos, whose contracts are expiring this winter.
Any move would require an agreement with Flamengo, who paid Chelsea a £425,000 loan fee last summer.
The Brazilian side are also said to have an £8.5million option to buy within the deal.

And reports suggest there are three clubs in the race for the 26-year-old forward.
Barcelona, Juventus and Sevilla are all said to be keen on a move for the Frenchman, according to Sky Sports.
All three clubs are targeting an initial loan deal, with the option for a permanent move later down the line.

    Moyes not convinced by VAR
West Ham boss David Moyes has admitted that he is ‘disappointed’ with the way VAR is being used this season.
Speaking in his press conference ahead of tonight’s Carabao Cup quarter-final against Tottenham, Moyes urged officials to use the pitch-side monitor more.
He said: “I would hope that if I was sitting in front of a television watching it from four or five different angles I would probably have a really good opinion.
“If I was unsure I would certainly send the referee over to say ‘why don’t we collaborate on this to see how it goes rather than just leaving it to one person to do it.
“I think for me the disappointment is they are not working well enough between the referee and whoever is in the VAR studio to get the decision right.”
    Jones January target for Benfica
Portuguese side Benfica are keen to give Phil Jones a chance to resurrect his career, reports suggest.
The 29-year-old hasn’t played for United since an FA Cup tie in January 2020.
And now Benfica are looking to snap up Jones on a six-month loan deal, according to the Daily Mail.
United would prefer a permanent deal, but given Jones has been out of action for nearly two years a loan move seems more realistic.
