Man City 1-0 Chelsea LIVE RESULT: Kevin de Bruyne wondergoal moves leaders City 13 points clear of Blues

MAN CITY are on the verge of the title already after a crucial win over Chelsea.Kevin de Bruyne scored the only goal of the game, firing a sublime strike into the bottom corner.
They are now 13 points ahead of the Blues and 14 ahead of Liverpool, though have played two games more than the Reds.

    Thats all from the Etihad
There is rarely much to separate the two sides whenever Manchester City meet Chelsea in any competition but Kevin De Bruyne’s moment of magic has opened up a 13 point gap between the league leaders and the Blues.
Chelsea seemed to have turned up with a strategy of soaking up City pressure and hitting them on the counter, but when they did gain possession, the hosts were onto them on in a flash.
What was intriguing is that the Blues had the most clear cut opportunities with both of them dropping to Romelu Lukaku but it just wouldn’t happen for the Belgian attacker.
That is now six games without a win in the Premier League (W1 D4 L1) for Thomas Tuchel’s men which for all their talent is a dreadful run. Dare I say it but do they need some reinforcements?
Thank you for tuning in this afternoon folks, it has been a pleasure and make sure to stay vigilant as we bring you more blogs across the weekend.

Man City 1-0 Chelsea match report
Didn’t have the time to keep up with the match blog? Then panic no more because we have a very detailed match report with all the main talking points from the top of the leaderboards clash this afternoon.

    Up next for the Blues
Chelsea can’t afford to dwell on this loss for too long because they take a trip to the seaside in three days’ time where they’ll be facing Brighton at the Amex Stadium which won’t be a stroll on the beach.
Thomas Tuchel’s side will then be spending a lot of their February contesting in cup competitions because the Blues have a favourable home tie against Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup fourth round followed by a Club World Cup semi-final away to either Al Hilal, Al Jazira or Auckland City.
But the two huge encounters in Chelsea’s run of fixtures that they will be more personal to them in terms of status are the London derbies.
They play Spurs for the third time in under three weeks on the 23rd of January and they travel south of the river to battle with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on the 19th of February.

    Round the corner for City
Pep’s men have six days to enjoy that victory before they travel to St.Mary’s where Southampton will be rolling out the red carpet for them.
City then have two consecutive home fixtures against two different opposition from the capital; Fulham in the fourth round of the FA Cup and then Premier League freshmen Brentford in a league clash four days later.
Shortly after that, the reigning champions will be hoping to build up some momentum on their trip at Carrow Road where they will be taking on Norwich because that match is followed by the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie against 19x Primeira Liga champions Sporting CP.

    An updated Premier League table
This is why Thomas Tuchel is so frustrated with the result because the loss against Manchester City puts them 13 points off the pace with 16 games left to play.
Stranger things have happened in football so it’s not all over for the Blues but no team has led by that kind of a margin at this stage of the season and not gone on to clinch the title.

    Thomas Tuchel gives his verdict
The Chelsea gaffer gave a frustrated post-match interview as he spoke to Des Kelly about why his team deserved a draw and how mathematically it is not impossible for City to be caught but it is highly unlikely.
I think we deserved a draw and I think we defended very, very well. There were not a lot of big chances, one in the first half from a big mistake from us.
We had chances so performances wise this was ok given the fact that we had to change our back three again.
Defensive wise, for the commitment I am absolutely ok with that performance. I think we deserved to have a draw, a draw would have been a fair result.
We will never give up but I mean, if City keep on winning every game then nobody can catch them.Thomas TuchelBT Sport 1
    Todays man of the match
Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden both had a strong shout for the man of the match, but it had could only go to one man after his winning goal and his all round contribution to the game.
    Congratulations to Kevin De Bruyne.

    Kevin De Manchester City hero
The midfield maestro Kevin De Bruyne has now scored 21 Premier League goals from outside the box which is more than any other player since his debut for Manchester City in 2015-16.
Also he has now scored five goals against his former club Chelsea who must be dreading the day they let him go.
    De Bruynes post-match thoughts
Kevin De Bruyne’s well-executed finish turned out to be the winning goal this afternoon and here is what the City talisman had to say about the game with BT Sport interviewer Des Kelly.
Obviously it’s a big game and I think they came here with a very good plan defensively but I think we played a pretty good game.
It’s nice to score the goal, it’s important because it is the only one but I think the team played very well today.
I think we knew that if we win today, we make the gap bigger on them and the title. We’ve been in this situation before where we have had points ahead but I think in the second year we were the same points behind.
A lot of things can change and the momentum can swing very quickly but I think the team was very focused on the job we needed to do.Kevin De BruyneBT Sport 1
    The full 90 match stats
Despite Chelsea having a couple glimpses of goal in the second half, Manchester City continued to dominate and their pressure eventually paid off.

Full time – Man City 1-0 Chelsea
The Cityzens make it twelve wins in a row in the Premier League and have put the nail in the coffin on Chelsea’s title winning hopes.
Fantastic performance by Manchester City who firmly look on course to clinch a second successive Premier League trophy.
Man City 1-0 Chelsea – Half a chance!
90+2. Manchester City had a slight opportunity to put Chelsea out of their misery but Kyle Walker picked out the wrong pass which was shephered out by Cesar Azpilicueta.
You feel as if that should be enough for the league leaders to leave Etihad with all three points.
    Man City 1-0 Chelsea
90+1. The Blues are desperate to grab the equaliser but they just cannot string more than three passes together.
This is a championship winning performance by Man City. Pep Guardiola will be very proud of his side.
    Three minutes of additional time
Man City 1-0 Chelsea – City sub
    87. The City boss decides to add some fresh legs in attack which will keep the press on Chelsea’s defenders anytime they on the ball.

    Phil Foden – OFF
    Gabriel Jesus – ON

    Man City 1-0 Chelsea
    86. Chelsea are running out of time and running out of ideas because when they go forward, they have struggled to find a final pass.
Leaving Mason Mount out from the start is becoming to look like a bad decision from Thomas Tuchel.
Man City 1-0 Chelsea – City sub
    83. Pep has made his first roll of the dice as he looks to protect the goal scorer having picked up a slight knock.

    Kevin De Bruyne – OFF
    Ilkay Gundogan – ON

Gundogan will take the captains armband for the remainder of the match.

Man City 1-0 Chelsea – Unlucky Foden!
    82. Raheem Sterling’s feet was too quick for Malang Sarr on this occassion as he did well to dodge the Chelsea defender’s challenge before picking out Phil Foden.
But the English youngster was unable to keep his shot down in what was a fantastic position to kill this game off.
Man City 1-0 Chelsea – Chelsea change
    79. Finally, Thomas Tuchel has decided to bring on Chelsea’s talisman with a little over ten minutes to save a point.

    Marcos Alonso – OFF
    Mason Mount – ON

    Kevin De Bruyne is king
The Belgian international could be saving the day again as Kevin De Bruyne’s goal puts Man City ahead in this top of the table clash.

    Man City 1-0 Chelsea
    72. Kevin De Bruyne’s 74th goal in Manchester City colours has put a sigh of relief on the faces of Pep Guardiola and all the Cityzen’s in the Etihad Stadium.
As it stands, the hosts will go 13 points clear of Chelsea at the top which looks too big of a mountain to climb for the Blues.
    Goal! – 1-0 to City!
Manchester City are finally rewarded with the goal that they have deserved thanks to a brilliant finish by their skipper Kevin De Bruyne.
He did well to ride the challenge of N’Golo Kante following some good build-up play before placing the ball into Kepa’s bottom left-hand corner.
Man City 0-0 Chelsea – Chelsea changes
    67. Double positive change from the visitors as Thomas Tuchel looks to add some fresh legs and pace to that attack.

    Hakim Ziyech – OFF
    Chrisitan Pulisic – OFF
    Callum Hudson-Odoi – ON
    Timo Werner – ON

    Man City 0-0 Chelsea
    66. It was a good delivery from Hakim Ziyech but Romelu Lukaku couldn’t make a proper connection.
That’s a little better from the Blues.

    1. Morocco get us underway here launching the ball forward showing their intent for the game today….
    Kick-off moments away….
As the anthems are sung by the players of both teams, we are only moments away from kick-off.
Comoros only joined FIFA in 2005 but has seen the interest in football boom since this date.
You can see how much it means to them to make the people back home happy.
    Tactically minded
As the minnows in this tournament in their first appearance, Comoros seem confident in knowing what they have to do to stand any chance of winning.
Tactics will be key as they look to nullify Morocco’s more talented squad.
An early Morocco goal could really test the Comoros players’ spirit.
    Chance to qualify
If Gabon and Morocco can both win today they will qualify for the next round, leaving them the luxury of being able to rest players in their final games.
All to play for their opponents who could bomb out of the tournament after only two games played.
    Middle of the park
Some familiar faces will look to control the centre of midfield for Morocco with Imran Louza (Watford) and Romain Saiss (Wolves) pulling the strings.
Sofiane Boufal plays in the role just behind the striker, hoping to add to his AFCON tally after scoring the winner in the opening game.
PSG’s Achraf Hakimi is always one to watch in this Morocco team.
    Subs:
Abdallah, Alhadhur, Zahary, Ali Mohamed, Aboubakari, M’Madi, Youssouf, Bourhane, Mogni, Ahamada, Moussa, Mohamed
    Comoros line-up (5-3-2)
Ben Boina, Youssouf, Abdullah, Abdou, Youssouf, M’Dahoma, M’Changama, Bakari, Selemani, Bachirou, Ben Nabouhane
    Subs:
Ounahi, El-Haddadi, Fajr, Mohamedi, Chair, Aboukhlal, Chakla, En-Nesyri, Alakouch, Tagnaouti, Mmaee, Rahimi
    Morocco line-up (4-2-3-1)
Bono, Aguerd, S Amrabat, Masina, Hakimi, Louza, Saiss, Amallah, Boufal, Tissoudali, El Kaabi
    That winning feeling
Morocco are currently on a winning streak of 10 games.
This includes all six of their World Cup Qualifying matches.
Can Comoros cause an upset here today?
    Man of the Match:
Naby Keita, Guinea’s tough tackling captain, will feel his side did what they needed to do here today.
Keeping their noses in front of Senegal going into the last game leaves their destiny in their own hands.
    FT: Senegal 0 Guinea 0
Despite having the better of the second half, Guinea defended resolutely and kept Senegal out.
This result will suit Guinea more than Senegal as they stay top.
    Newbies to AFCON
Comoros have qualified for their very first AFCON tournament.
Against Gabon in their opening game, Comoros dominated before conceding an early goal.
This seemed to knock the debutant’s confidence and they struggled to create anything until a chance late on caused the Gabon keeper problems.
    Welcome back AFCON fans
Today Morocco against Comoros is the focus of our attention.
Meanwhile in the early kick off Senegal and Guinea are drawing 0-0 deep into the second half.
A draw in this game would leave Guinea top of the group with Senegal in second place, level on points.
Like Senegal, Morocco are one of the fancied teams to win AFCON this year.

    Game of few chances
Each team probably had one golden chance to score in the game.
Morgan Guilavogui had the opportunity to put Guinea ahead in the first half, but fired straight at Seny Dieng from close range.
Senegal then improved after the break, and went close through Abdou Diallo.
He drew an excellent save out of Aly Keita following a powerful header from a corner, which the Guinea keeper brilliantly tipped over the bar.
But apart from that it was a game of few chances, and on reflection 0-0 is probably the right result.
Both teams are still yet to concede in this year’s tournament, but perhaps slightly worryingly, both have only scored once as well.
Full time – Senegal 0-0 Guinea
PEEEP! That will be full time!
Liverpool team-mates Sadio Mane and Naby Keita play out a drab 0-0 draw.
It takes both teams to four points after two games, and both are well placed to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition.
The other two teams in Group B, Malawi and Zimbabwe, face off later on this afternoon.
    Senegal 0-0 Guinea
    91. This one is well and truly petering out towards full time.
Guinea are happy to clear downfield when they get the ball and give it back to Senegal, but Mane and Co can’t do anything with it when they have it.
    Senegal 0-0 Guinea
    90. Three minutes of added time are signalled by the fourth official.
Senegal won in added time last time out, could they repeat the feat once more today?
    Senegal 0-0 Guinea
    89. A substitution for both teams here.
Morgan Guilavogui is being replaced by Morlaye Sylla for Guinea, and Bouna Sarr is off for Keita Balde for Senegal.
    Senegal 0-0 Guinea
    88. Ibrahima Conte takes… and it sails high over the crossbar.
    That’s a waste.
Will it be the last chance for Guinea?
We’re into the final two minutes of the 90.
    Senegal 0-0 Guinea
    87. This time Keita gets a free kick in dangerous area!
He’s felled 20 yards out from goal, and the referee blows for a free kick.
    Now then…
    Senegal 0-0 Guinea
    85. Naby Keita goes down on the edge of the box and looks towards referee Bamlak Tessema.
He gets nothing, to Keita’s dismay, and the Liverpool man has a right go at the official.
Keita is booked for his troubles, and is now the fourth Guinea player to be shown a yellow card.
    Senegal 0-0 Guinea
    83. Guinea goalkeeper Aly Keita is into the book now for time-wasting after taking an absolute age to lumber up and take a goal kick.
Guinea are more than happy with the draw it seems.
    Senegal 0-0 Guinea
    82. Sarr goes for goal from the free kick, but his effort is nowhere near troubling Keita in goal.
It’s both high and wide of the mark.
    Senegal 0-0 Guinea
    81. Senegal will make another substitution before the free kick is taken.
Joseph Lopy is on for Boulaye Dia.
    Senegal 0-0 Guinea
    80. That’s about as cynical as it comes from Sylla.
He hauls down Dia 30 yards out as the ball is played in towards him, stopping the Senegal man from having a run at goal.
    Senegal 0-0 Guinea
    78. Guinea substitution.
Mory Konate is on for his competitive debut, replacing Amadou Diawara in the middle of the park.
The drinks break and substitutions have just halted Senegal’s momentum somewhat, which suits Guinea right down to the ground.
    Senegal 0-0 Guinea
    77. It’s not a bad delivery towards Sow at the back post, but can’t get any real purchase on the header and heads it up rather than towards goal.
He then goes into the book for a late challenge on Diallo as the pair contest for the second ball.
    Senegal 0-0 Guinea
    76. Crystal Palace and Senegal midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate is the third man into the book.
He catches Guilavogui with a flailing arm as the pair contest for a header on the Guinea left hand side.
It’s a free kick, and a chance to get a cross into the box.
    Senegal 0-0 Guinea
    75. Into the final 15 minutes of action now.
The second half has been better than the first, marginally, but the deadlock is still yet to be broken.
Will we see a goal in the closing stages of the game?
    Senegal 0-0 Guinea
    74. Senegal substitution.
There’s a change on the flanks here, as Mame Thiam comes off for Habib Diallo.
    Senegal 0-0 Guinea
    73. Sarr stands over the corner again, and this time puts it right on the goalkeeper Keita.
The Guinea keeper deals with it, albeit unconvincingly, and just about punches the ball clear.
    Senegal 0-0 Guinea
    72. Play has just stopped for a moment as the players take on some more fluids.
It will resume with a corner to Senegal.
    Senegal 0-0 Guinea
    71. Dia picks up a dangerous position in the box again as the ball is worked into his feet.
He tries to let fly with an effort, but the ball is poked away from his feet just as he pulls the trigger.
It will be a corner though…
    Senegal 0-0 Guinea
    70. Mane is starting to show his class now as he drops into deeper positions on the pitch.
He picks it up again, and works his way out to the right hand side.
The Liverpool man looks up and spots Dia in the box, but Conte just about manages to hold off Dia and hack the ball to safety.
Guinea are starting to ride their luck a bit now, with 20 minutes still left to play.
    Senegal 0-0 Guinea
    68. Huge chance for Senegal!
Mane drives powerfully through the middle of the pitch, drawing Guinea defenders to him.
He releases it on the edge of the box, into Sarr on the right.
Sarr cuts inside, leaving Sylla on his backside, and opening up space for a shot.
He has all the time in the world to get an effort away, but fails to test Keita in goal and can only scuffs his effort wide of the mark.
    Senegal 0-0 Guinea
    67. That’s now two Ibrahima Conte’s on the pitch for Guinea, one at the back and one in midfield.
The sub will come on to provide some much needed fresh legs.
    Senegal 0-0 Guinea
    67. Guinea substitution.
This isn’t a bad call, with Guinea just starting to tire a bit in the middle of the park.
Ilaix Moriba is off, with Ibrahima Conte coming on.
    Senegal 0-0 Guinea
    65. Mane is involved again now, and this time goes down under a challenge from his Liverpool team-mate Keita.
The Guinea man is booked for the tackle on his club compatriot, and he is the second man to be shown a yellow card.

    Not enough Klopptions
The German boss was not too disheartened with the draw, he said: “We did not see the best of us. We started well but I would rather have scored the goal than got their red card.
“We changed the formation tonight and I am not surprised that we struggled.
“We were not good enough but it is a two-legged game.
“We have an important game in between but then we have the second game and we will give it a proper try.”
    Two to tango
Paul Merson fears Liverpool will not cope without Mo Salah and Sadio Mane.
The Arsenal hero said: “The biggest worry tonight if I were a Liverpool fan? Salah and Mane.
“If they play tonight, it’s a different story.
“You can take two players out of Manchester City’s team, doesn’t really make a difference. Take two out of Chelsea, not really.
“Take two out of Liverpool, it is completely different.”
    The art-eta of war
The Arsenal boss loved watching his charges battle side-by-side.
He said: “I think they showed great fight, determination and attitude, they showed a brotherhood.
“All credit to the boys. To do what we did deserves a lot of credit.
“I told them you need a certain attitude to come here and it got extremely complicated after the red card. We played the game we had to play.”
    Carra disappointed
Jurgen Klopp was not proactive enough for Jamie Carragher’s liking, especially after Arsenal went a man down after 24 minutes.
The ex-defender said: “I was convinced Jurgen Klopp would make a change [at half-time] and I can’t believe they came out with the same XI.
“Not that anything wasn’t working in the first half but Arsenal are down to 10 men and you’ve got a very workmanlike midfield.
“The first substitution was for James Milner on the hour. It had to be made at half-time.
“It’s probably the only thing I can question Jurgen Klopp about at times. Does he make substitutions early enough?”
    High praise
Arsenal hero Paul Merson has not always been a fan of his old side’s backline.
But he was hugely impressed after they battled for over an hour with 10 men.
He said: “Liverpool made it easy for Arsenal but credit where credit is due.
“I’ve been a critic of Arsenal’s defence over the years and how they can capitulate in certain games, but today they stood up, every single one of them.
“Arteta got them in at half-time, set them up, and they all worked. Everybody had to put a shift in and they all worked their socks off.
“The players and managers should be proud.”
    No White flag
On the red card, Ben White said: “It was not ideal was it but there is so much fight in this team and it showed today.
“He (Xhaka) was looking at the ball and didn’t know where the man was.
“We just did not want to concede but it is hard enough to do with 11 so it was superb from everyone.
“It was not easy at all, we had a bit of luck but it is also well deserved.”

CHELSEA are into the Carabao Cup final after beating Tottenham 3-0 on aggregate. Leading 2-0 from the first leg, the Blues made a dream start as Antonio Rudiger rose highest from a corner to nod his side infront early.
Spurs thought they had a way back into the game as Hojbjerg was taken down by Rudiger in the area, but VAR decided contact had begun outside the box and reversed the decision.
And they were denied ANOTHER spot-kick after replays showed Kepa got the ball in a coming together with Lucas Moura.
Kane smashed in after Kepa’s error moments later, but that was also chalked off for offside.
Tottenham tried in vain to find a way back into the contest, but it was Tuchel’s men who saw things out to book their place at Wembley.
