    FT: Liverpool 1-0 West Ham
Jordan Henderson was interviewed by BBC Sport immediately after the match.
The Liverpool skipper said: “It was always going to be a tough game. West Ham are a good team and made life difficult.
“We were prepared for that. It was tough but I’m pleased with the way we reacted.
“We got a clean sheet, which is important and got the three points which is the main thing.
Lanzini had great chance, but we had chances as well in first half. So there were chances at both ends. We dominated the ball for large parts and towards the end we had to grind it out.”
On Luis Diaz’s display: “He’s hit the ground running. He’s been fantastic. He was immense in the [Carabao Cup] final and again today brilliant.
“He’s fit straight in, pressing and winning the ball high up the pitch.”
    FT: Liverpool 1-0 West Ham
That really is an unbelievable stat. Virgil van Dijk really is THAT important for Liverpool.

    FT: Liverpool 1-0 West Ham
Fellow Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson also spoke to Sky Sports about the match.
The Scot said: “West Ham played a good game but we defended well, put bodies on the line and got the three points.
“Set pieces have been a threat. It was never going to be easy but once we got the goal it was important to keep the clean sheet. Now we need more. We need to keep going.
“Thery are trying to get into European football so we had to help out our centre-backs and we were brave with it.
“Any game you play for this club is special, 200 starts is an amazing thing to do so. Hopefully I can now look forward to 201 but one day when I am older I will look back at what an acheivement it is.
“We have a huge game against Inter Milan on Tuesday, but I’m sure the game [Manchester derby] is going to be on on the background.”
    FT: Liverpool 1-0 West Ham
Trent Alexander-Arnold has given his post-match thoughts after another classy display.
He told Sky Sports: “Both me and Andy (Robertson) tried to get forward when we had the chance, but to keep a clean sheet was our aim.
“We have been able to do that over the last few weeks. Being able to clear one off the line was great as it helped us keep that clean sheet.
“Look at the Burnley game, when we also got a 1-0 win. It’s great to win by a big margin but these are the ones that matter. It doesn’t matter how you do it, you have to get the job done.”
On reaching 16 assists for the season: “I try to contribute as much as I can to the team. We all want to help win games for the team and I am happy to be able to continue.”
    FT: Liverpool 1-0 West Ham
Liverpool remain undefeated at home against West Ham in the Premier League for seven years.
A decent little run, that. The Hammers’ top four chances are dwindling by the week.
    FT: Liverpool 1-0 West Ham
Liverpool remain well and truly on the heels of Manchester City.
If Manchester United beat their neighbours tomorrow then Liverpool will be three points behind City with a game in hand.
    Mouthwatering.
    FT: Liverpool 1-0 West Ham
West Ham put up a real fight there. They have to be given props, particularly without Declan Rice.
But there finishing HAD to be better. They had the chances and spurned them.
    FT: Liverpool 1-0 West Ham
A huge win in the title race.
    Over to you Manchester City…

    Full-time: Liverpool 1-0 West Ham
That’s it! Liverpool have done it. It was messy at times, but they got there in the end thanks to Sadio Mane’s first half goal.
West Ham had more than enough chances to equalise through Michail Antonio and Pablo Fornals. But it wasn’t to be for the Hammers.
Liverpool move THREE points behind Manchester City ahead of the Manchester Derby tomorrow!
    Liverpool 1-0 West Ham
90+5 mins: The free-kick is headed clear and Liverpool break. Jota can only hook an effort over the top, but they may have secured all three points anyway.
Luis Diaz makes way for Curtis Jones. Running down the clock a little more.
    Liverpool 1-0 West Ham
90+4 mins: Free-kick for West Ham just inside the Liverpool half. One last chance to load the box.
    Liverpool 1-0 West Ham
90+4 mins: Konate thumps it into touch as if he were in the 80th minute of a rugby game.
Anywhere will do now for the title chasers.
    Liverpool 1-0 West Ham
90+3 mins: Fornals tries a crossfield pass for Johnson who is waiting at the back post but the right-back can’t control it. Liverpool goal kick.
Oh, here comes Dan Chesters! He replaces Fornals and in turn makes his Premier League debut!
    Liverpool 1-0 West Ham
90+2 mins: Brilliant drive from Robertson and Mane picks it up before firing into the arm of Zouma. Penalty shouts but that would be ridiculously harsh.
    We go on.
    Liverpool 1-0 West Ham
90+1 mins: Five minutes of stoppage time to be played. More than enough time for another goal.
    Liverpool 1-0 West Ham
90 mins: Another change for Liverpool. James Milner enters the fray as Naby Keita makes way.
Doesn’t look like Dan Chesters is going to get on, by the way. No sign of him coming on (it looked like he was going to 10 minutes ago).
    Liverpool 1-0 West Ham
89 mins: Cresswell takes but it hits the first man. It comes back out to the West Ham left-back but he then whips one in which Alisson can punch away.
Liverpool break in numbers by Jota can’t find Mane and Diaz in the middle.
Jota then gets booked for a foul on Fornals as he stops the counter-attack. Cynical but smart at this point.
    Liverpool 1-0 West Ham
88 mins: West Ham break after Robertson slips and it’s another corner for the visitors…
    Liverpool 1-0 West Ham
86 mins: It’s West Ham who have the momentum now. They are coming forward looking for an equaliser.
All hands to the pump now for Liverpool. Could be a huge few minutes in the title race.
    Liverpool 1-0 West Ham
84 mins: Dan Chesters looks set to come on for West Ham here. It will be his Premier League debut. At Anfield! Some start.
    Liverpool 1-0 West Ham
83 mins: Antonio holds the ball up well and lays it off to Benrahma on the left-hand side of the penalty area. He whips a dangerous ball in but no one is there to meet it.
Liverpool and their supporters are feeling the nerves.
    Liverpool 1-0 West Ham
83 mins: A little dip in the game as both sides ready themselves for the final seven minutes plus stoppage time.
He has the feeling of late drama.
    Liverpool 1-0 West Ham
81 mins: OH DEAR! It’s another huge chance for West Ham!
Noble produces a wonderful pass with the outside of his boot. He finds Antonio in acres of space on the right but there are no Liverpool players between him and the goal! He looks like he is going to burst the net but takes too long and when he checks back inside Konate gets across to block.
Again, West Ham waste a golden chance in front of goal.
    Liverpool 1-0 West Ham
79 mins: Great chance for Liverpool! Diaz the creator once more as he wiggles his way into the box. He pulls it back for the unmarked Salah but his shot is blocked inside the six-yard box.
And that is Salah’s last action! It is he who makes way for Portugal’s Diogo Jota.
    Liverpool 1-0 West Ham
78 mins: Diogo Jota is getting ready to come on. You imagine that could be for Luis Diaz – who has been utterly superb today. Probably the best player on the pitch.
Liverpool taking the sting out of the game once more.

SAUL NIGUEZ has started Chelsea’s Premier League clash at Burnley – and Thiago Silva has had an early chance cleared off the line.Dwight McNeil then missed a sitter for the Clarets, who should have gone in at half time with at least a goal on the board.

    Start time: 3pm GMT

    Burnley 0-1 Chelsea
    47. Chalobah finds James, the Chelsea wing-back goes to his right, to his left and then back onto his right.
He strikes the ball across Nick Pope and into the back of the net.
Burnley pay the price for not taking their chances.
    Goal – Reece James (Chelsea)
    Kick-off: Burnley 0-0 Chelsea
    The second half gets underway.
Neither side have made any changes.
    HT: Burnley 0-0 Chelsea
It has been a very downbeat performance from Chelsea in the first-half, Tuchel may need to makes some changes up top to try and change things.
Burnley will be happy with their display, limiting the visitors to shots from long-range.
It will be more of the same for Sean Dyche’s side as they try and get that killer blow on the counter-attack.

    HT: Burnley 0-0 Chelsea
The referee brings the half to a close.
The highlights are really the mistake by Mendy that McNeil put over the bar, a real glaring miss for The Clarets.
As it stands, Burnley are out of the bottom three.
    Burnley 0-0 Chelsea
45+1. Ngolo Kante puts a cross in but Tarkowski heads it clear for a corner.
Mason Mount crosses it in, the ball is headed clear by Burnley.
    Burnley 0-0 Chelsea
    45. There will be one additional minute.
    Burnley 0-0 Chelsea
    44. Rodriguez trips Reece James and the referee awards the visitors a free kick.
Jorginho hits the loose ball and it is headed over the bar by Roberts.
    Chelsea corner.
    Burnley 0-0 Chelsea
    42. You would struggle to convince any broadcaster to make this their ‘game of the day’.
McNeil has a chance to stride into the penalty area but he seems to take one touch too many and allows Chalobah to intervene.
Rodriguez wins the ball back but Burnley can make nothing of the situation.
    Burnley 0-0 Chelsea
    39. Chance for Burnley.
The ball is played into Weghorst but as Rodriguez flicks it on, it evades the Burnley front man.
Reece James has to head the ball behind.

    Burnley 0-0 Chelsea
    37. Saul had a good game for Chelsea against Luton in the FA Cup in the week, he has been quiet in this first-half today.
Nick Pope could be wearing boots on his hands and it would not have caused any issues in the first 37 minutes so far.
Like a second-hand Monopoly board so far, very few chances.
    Burnley 0-0 Chelsea
    35. You can see already why Burnley have only scored 22 goals this season, they do not create many clean-cut chances.
That is a real issue if you are not clinical with your finishing.
Chelsea start to look to press for a goal before half-time.
    Burnley 0-0 Chelsea
    32. Weghorst and Rudiger are having a real go at each other at the moment.
Every time the ball comes to them they are grappling and wrestling each other.
The referee steps in to have a word with both players.
Burnley 0-0 Chelsea – McNeil chance!
    30. Lennon puts a good ball into the box and Mendy comes rushing off his line to meet it.
He misses the ball completely and McNeil has the chance to strike at goal.
Hitting it first time the ball goes over the top of the goal, that was a huge chance for Burnley to take the lead.
    Burnley 0-0 Chelsea
    27. There hasn’t been much for either sets of fans to shout about in these opening 27 minutes.
The closest we have come to a goal is the Weghorst chance that Thiago Silva cleared off the line.
It’s a quiet day to be a goalkeeper here.

    Burnley 0-0 Chelsea
    25. James tries to squeeze the ball into Mason Mount.
Kante lays the ball off, unable to find a way to unlock the Burnley defence.
Chelsea are struggling to get quality ball through The Clarets back line.
    Burnley 0-0 Chelsea
    23. Pulisic is coming into the game more and more.
When there are no options in front of him he tends to go backwards with the ball and the phase of play starts over again.
You just want to see him run at people and take them on.
    Burnley 0-0 Chelsea
    21. Chelsea have had 73% possession in the opening 20 minutes.
Burnley will not feel they have had many efforts on their goal considering the dominance of the visitors.
The Clarets need to show the urgency of a side looking to stay in the Premier League.
    Burnley 0-0 Chelsea
    19. Rudiger tries a speculative effort from distance.
Will have to do a lot better than that to beat Pope from that range.
An easy save for the England stopper.
Burnley 0-0 Chelsea – Weghorst chance!
    17. The Clarets nearly catch Chelsea out as Weghorst pokes the ball passed the keeper but his effort is cleared off the line.
Who else was there to mop up other than Thiago Silva.
    Always calm under pressure.

    Burnley 0-0 Chelsea
    15. Great chance for Reece James there.
It looked like he was going to open the scoring there as the ball came through to him but it was a great block from Taylor.
    Very close.
    Burnley 0-0 Chelsea
    12. Dwight McNeil is trying to get delivery into Weghorst in the middle.
Chelsea are able to keep Burnley at bay but they are knocking on the door.
    Burnley 0-0 Chelsea
    9. Lennon is already causing Chelsea issues down the right-hand side.
He has yet to find a Burnley player in the box but he is stretching Tuchel’s side and making them uneasy.
Chelsea do look capable of breaking quickly.
    Burnley 0-0 Chelsea
    8. Neither side have created any chance of note so far.
Both are trying to probe and get balls into the box to create problems.
    Burnley 0-0 Chelsea
    6. It is a noisy atmosphere as they try and get behind The Clarets.
Lennon takes on Rudiger and puts a dangerous cross in that Thiago Silva has to head behind for a corner.

Having secured the first English trophy of the season, the Reds went on to book their place in the FA Cup quarter-finals by scraping a 2-1 victory over Norwich City.
However, Liverpool must now turn their attentions on trying to close the gap between themselves and Pep Guardiola’s team who sit top of the tree.
And for all West Ham’s fantastic work so far, the East London club are beginning to struggle which was evident in their 3-1 exile from the FA Cup on Wednesday so the Reds will be rubbing their hands together.

    Team news
Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Thiago’s hamstring injury sustained in the warm up before the Carabao Cup final is a short term issue so he could return to the squad despite missing the 2-1 win over Norwich.
Roberto Firmino was also unavailable with a muscular problem so the Brazilian will need to be assessed ahead of the match.
And Curtis Jones was precautionarily taken off because he felt a tweak in his thigh, but the Liverpool boss stated that “it was not a real injury” so the Englishman should be fit and raring to go.
Angelo Ogbonna is the only long-term absentee for West Ham but Ryan Fredericks, Vladamir Coufal and Arthur Masuaku were all absent for the FA Cup loss against Southampton so their chances of featuring are in jeopardy.

Muhsin Bayrak Chelsea takeover talks CONFIRMED, transfer concerns over Wyss and Boehly, Roman Abramovich rejects £2.5bn

ROMAN ABRAMOVICH is conducting an auction for the sale of Chelsea after announcing he is parting company with the club. And Turkish billionaire Muhsin Bayrak says he is in talks to buy the club, adding: “The Turkish flag will fly over London!”
American billionaire Todd Boehly is also said to be in the running, as he sizes up a joint bid with Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss.
But Abramovich is said to have rejected a £2.5bn offer for the West Londoners.
And there are concerns that Wyss has little interest in football, only wants to buy the club to spite Abramovich and will not splash out on transfers the way the Russian has.

EXCLUSIVE: ‘Rats’ stole Oli’s £500k watch collection
Sheffield United striker Oli McBurnie is offering a £20,000 reward after “rats” took his watches.
The Scotland player said the £500,000 collection was taken in a burglary a few months ago.

Oli, 25, shared pics of eight timepieces including a gold Rolex.
He wrote: “£20k cash if anyone lets me know anything that leads to the recovery of the watches or the rats that done it.”
    Rival footie fans trolled him.
One tweeted: “This lad’s had more watches than goals.”
Another posted: “I’ll watch out for them.”
EXCLUSIVE: Jesse’s victim of £100k robbery
Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard was targeted by “Away Day” robbers who stole more than £100,000 of clothes and jewellery from his home.
The Sun can reveal he became their latest victim on January 15 as the Red Devils went to Aston Villa. The gang escaped with the haul before security was alerted at his £3million mansion.

In May 2020 Lingard gave an MTV crew a tour of his five-bedroom home for its Cribs show. He  showed off his walk-in wardrobe featuring a huge designer trainer collection and his 32 England caps.
Since the burglary, Lingard, 27, has put the property in Hale, Gtr Manchester, up for sale and accepted an offer. It boasts a swimming pool, gym and cinema room.
A source said of Jesse, who has a young daughter: “He was really upset to find out he had been targeted.
“The items which were stolen are replaceable, but it’s very invasive for him to have someone break into his home, especially as he is a father.
“He has stepped up security since the robbery and is reviewing how his home is protected when he is away from it.”
Conte: Spurs have been like this 20 years
Antonio Conte says no manager in the world could provide a quick fix for Tottenham’s issues — because they date back 20 years.
The Italian, who was appointed Spurs boss in November, has admitted the task of turning the success-starved North Londoners into winners is  tougher than he expected.
After Saturday’s 4-0 league win at Leeds, they lost 1-0 at Championship Middlesbrough in the FA Cup on Tuesday to extend a 14-year trophy drought.
Speaking ahead of their home clash with Everton on Monday, Conte said: “I always said this from my first day. Tottenham’s story is this — many ups and downs.
“But to be competitive, to try to win something, fight for something important and become a strong team, the first thing that has to happen is to be stable and avoid these ups and downs.
“To do this and to change this situation that has been happening for many, many years in Tottenham, it’s not simple.
“In a short time it’s impossible to do this, not only for me but I think for any manager or coach to come in and change the story in one second.
“Especially when this club, for 20 years, has this type of situation.”
Abramovich departure ‘not good’ for fans
Spurs chief Antonio Conte says Roman Abramovich selling Chelsea is ‘not good news’ for their fans.
Conte won the Premier League in 2016-17, followed by cup glory in 17-18, but he was sacked due to a fifth place league finish.
The Italian’s axing cost Roman £26million in compensation and legal fees, as Conte sued the club in a lengthy legal battle.
In a press conference today he spoke out and said: “It is not good news for Chelsea fans.”
He seemed complimentary of the work Roman had done with the Blues.
Chelsea have beaten Conte’s Tottenham twice in 2022 already, and have not conceded a goal to the Lilywhites since August 2021.
    Mu’s in for Blues
Turkish billionaire Muhsin Bayrak claims he is in talks to buy £3billion rated Chelsea off Russian owner Roman Abramovich.
The European champions were put up for sale by Abramovich amid Russia’s invasion of neighbouring country Ukraine.

Abramovich was a topic of conversation in the UK parliament with some MPs questioning why the Chelsea owner wasn’t sanctioned due to his ties to Russian president Vladimir Putin.
As a result, Abramovich is looking to offload all of his London assets, including Chelsea.
And Turkish billionaire Bayrak says he’s in talks to buy the west London club.
He told Turkish outlet Yeni Safak: “We are negotiating the terms of the purchase of Chelsea with Roman Abramovich’s lawyers.
“We are in the negotiation phase for the signatures. We will fly the Turkish flag in London soon.
“We made our offer. Because of the war with Russia and Ukraine in the world. Because they find Turkey safe, they want to get most of the after-sales money in Turkey. We are planning to sign soon.”
    Toon and Gunners ‘eye Youssef’
Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri is reportedly on Arsenal and Newcastle’s radar.
Fichajes say the Moroccan’s injury-hit season has not deterred Premier League admirers.
The 24-year-old was also linked with an exit in the last transfer window.
And interest is expected to rise again in the summer.

‘Utd stars question Maguire starting place’
Harry Maguire’s Manchester United starting place has been privately questioned by team-mates, it’s claimed.
The Old Trafford skipper has already denied a dressing-room power struggle with Cristiano Ronaldo.
And now the Times suggest the England centre’s recent form has sparked debate in the squad.
They say ‘some of his team-mates have aired their grievances among themselves at the club’s Carrington training ground’.

    Red Star fans back Russia
Red Star Belgrade fans chanted their support of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine during Thursday’s 3-0 win over Vozvodac.
The Serbian giants warmed up for their Europa League last-16 tie against Rangers with a comfortable victory.
And in footage shared by Serbian paper Sportski Zurnal, Red Star supporters can be heard chanting ‘Russia, Russia, Russia’ during the clash.
Red Star Belgrade fans chant in support of Russian invasion of Ukraine as they prepare for Rangers clash
The links between Serbia and Russia are strong – stretching back to the first world war.
And Red Star’s support of the country comes as the club have stood by their shirt sponsorship with Russian energy firm Gazprom.
Uefa ditched the oil giant’s sponsorship of the Champions League – while Schalke instantly dropped them as kit sponsors.
But Red Star’s general secretary insisted they will keep their main backers after lashing out at “anti-Russian hysteria”.
Red Star played bitter rivals Partizan at the weekend, with Russian flags spotted in the opposition end.
I never want to leave Arsenal
Gabriel Martinelli has revealed he wants to stay at Arsenal for his ‘whole life’ and help fire the club back into the Champions League.
The 20-year-old is a fan favourite at the Emirates and has started to show consistency this season.
Martinelli has played 23 times for Arsenal this season, predominately operating out wide on the left-hand side.

And his direct style of play has helped contribute getting Arsenal back fighting for a Champions League spot.
The Gunners are currently sat sixth, two points off fourth place Manchester United with THREE games in hand.
He told ESPN Brasil: “We always want more. Of course, Arsenal are a giant team. If I can, I’ll stay here my whole life. I want to conquer things, I already said, I want to stay here and win titles, with this wonderful crowd, my teammates.
“We have a young group, we have a lot of time ahead of us, players with a lot of quality, I think we will achieve great things.
“Our focus [today] is the Champions League. Fighting for that top four. A club like Arsenal has to be in the Champions League. It’s our total focus.”
Ralf has ‘no idea’ on next Utd boss
Interim chief Ralf Rangnick claims he is in the dark over who’ll get the permanent Manchester United job.
Ahead of Sunday’s Prem trip to neighbours City, he said of the managerial situation: “I have no idea.
“I am here until the end of the season and it is important to develop the players.
“We have had one or two meetings with the head of scouting. We have not spoken about the new manager too much”.
    Eagles linked to Sanson
FA Cup quarter-finalists Crystal Palace are tipped to join a summer fight for Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Sanson.
Lille and Rennes are also reportedly interested in a loan swoop as the Frenchman has struggled since arriving from Marseille.
    Declan aims for the top
Declan Rice says his dreams to play in the Champions League are ‘urgent’ in a major transfer warning to West Ham.
The Hammers midfielder, 23, has been valued at £120million by boss David Moyes with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea showing an interest.
Rice’s current deal with the club runs out in June 2024 – with no talks so far to extend.
    Credit: Rex
And the England international has hinted yet again his future may lie away from the club after admitting he sees himself as one of the best players in the world.
Asked about his desire to win trophies and play in the Champions League, Rice said: “It is as urgent as possible. I feel like, not only for me, that’s for every young player as well.
“I see friends that are close to me, big players winning big trophies. You want to be a part of that. You want to be remembered in this career for what you’ve won.
“I feel like I am one of the established top players around the world. I am only 23. But in terms of my playing ability and the way I’ve performed consistently, I see myself as an established player now who’s got good experience and can play at any level if required.
“We are really close with West Ham at the minute and last season it was gutting to lose out on it but we are pushing.”
    ‘Business as usual’
Emma Hayes insists it is ‘business as usual’ for Chelsea as they prep for a Conti Cup final in the midst of Roman Abramovich selling the club.
The Blues owner put the football juggernauts up for sale this week with the government facing pressure to impose sanctions on him.
The Russian billionaire, 55, is an advocate of Chelsea’s WSL side who have evolved into one of the women’s game’s dominant forces following Hayes’ 2012 arrival.

However, Abramovich is set to cut ties with the club- whose women’s team have won 12 major trophies – following questions over alleged links to Russian president Vladimir Putin.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has seen Putin come under fire from leaders across globe.
And the country has been suspended from competing in a number of sports events including this year’s World Cup.
Hayes, 45, who last Saturday was named as one of six custodians of the Blues said: “Look, it’s business as usual and I stand by this.
“Chelsea have amazing people, across the club, leading in all sections, from Neil Bath to Thomas Tuchel, to the work we’re doing here (with the women’s team).
“We will be successful going forward, nothing has changed. We’ve got a cup final, and everyone is looking forward to that.”
    Utd ‘contact Ten Hag’
Manchester United have contacted Ajax chief Erik ten Hag as they narrow their managerial options for next season, reports say.
Ten Hag is favourite to land the Old Trafford permanent job this summer, with interim boss Ralf Rangnick tipped to move upstairs.
PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino is rated next on the list of options.
And it’s now claimed Carlo Ancelotti could be a contender if Real Madrid sack him.
Other names mentioned include Graham Potter, Roberto Mancini and Luis Enrique.
Roman exit ‘not good’ for fans
    Blues’ Bay watch

    Lukaku set for recall
Chelsea return to Premier League football following a double dose up of cup action which included heartache and a fightback.
The Blues were beaten by Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final after a lengthy penalty shootout.
And the hangover looked to continue as they found themselves 2-1 down to Luton before fighting back to win 3-2.

Kepa Arrizabalaga – who missed Chelsea’s deciding spot kick at Wembley – started against Luton but is expected to be replaced by Edouard Mendy.
Trevoh Chalobah and Thiago Silva – both ruled out against Luton – could come back into the line up.
Both were seemingly rested for the midweek trip to Luton and available to return.
Boss Thomas Tuchel said: “Those who weren’t at Luton due to minor injuries like Trevoh and Thiago were back in training yesterday so all fine.”
    Pep ‘joy’ at watching Ronaldo
Pep Guardiola says Manchester City need to find a way to halt the ‘unstoppable goalscoring machine’ that is Cristiano Ronaldo on Sunday.
The Portuguese legend has endured a difficult start to 2022, scoring just once in the calendar year so far.
But City weighed up the possibility of signing the veteran from Juventus before he returned to Old Trafford in August.

And Guardiola has admitted he is a big admirer, saying: “As a finisher he’s exceptional, I’m not going to disguise it was a joy to watch him these years.
“We have to explode our game, our strength to avoid Cristiano close to the box, because there he is almost unstoppable.
“When you are one of the greatest that he was in terms of being a goalscoring machine, you will always be there.
“He is so strong mentally. He handled pressure without a problem because he lived with expectation through his career and always responded in a positive way.”
    Kante joins an exclusive club
After winning the Club World Cup last month, Chelsea midfield workhorse N’golo Kante joined a very limited club of exceptional players.
Only four players have ever won the World Cup, Champions League, Premier League and Club World Cup.

    Gerard Pique (Barcelona)
    Pedro (Lazio)
    Thierry Henry (Retired)
    N’golo Kante (Chelsea)

It is without doubt that he is one of the greats at Chelsea and in football in general. He revolutionised what it means to be a midfielder.
Perhaps he will only truly be appreciated after his retirement. Master.

    Who are the goal scorers?
Chelsea’s goal scoring list this season is as follows (In all comps):

    Romelu Lukaku – 11 Goals.
    Jorginho – 9 Goals.
Mason Mount, Timo Werner, Kai Havertz – 7 Goals.
    Hakim Ziyech – 6 Goals.
    Reece James – 5 Goals.

It must be said, it is concerning for blues fans that Reece James is so high up the list considering their array of attacking talent, and his significant injury this season.
    Chelsea’s goal scoring troubled season
Chelsea have been defensively sound this season, and early on there were even questions surrounding whether the current crop could beat the record of 15 goals conceded in a campaign.
However, they have struggled defensively somewhat in comparison to the start of the season, perhaps because of injuries to Ben Chilwell and Reece James.
Their goal scoring however, seems to be a more permanent issue, with record signing Romelu Lukaku failing to hit the heights he hit last season with Inter Milan and Belgium.
Across all competitions, Lukaku has hit the target 11 times and got 0 assists, in 30 games, an average of 0.47 goals per 90mins.
Thankfully for CFC, the blues have had goals from a range of positions this season, as we look into their top goal scorers this season…
    Chelsea ‘reject £2.5bn takeover bid’
Roman Abramovich will ‘not rush’ into selling Chelsea after reportedly rejecting an offer worth £2.5BILLION, writes GIACOMO PISA.
The Russian is looking for £3bn after deciding to cut his ties with the club following questions over his links to Russian president Vladimir Putin.
And the 55-year-old is seemingly adamant he will not compromise over his valuation, despite the risk of asset sanctions from the UK government.
A reported offer of £2.5bn from an unnamed bidder has been rejected by the oligarch, according to Reuters.
Joe Ravitch, co-founder of investment bank Raine Group LLC, is the man in charge of seeking out the next owners.
And he said the club are eager to source a buyer who who is the ‘best steward’ for Chelsea going forward, while also securing a fair price.
He went on to tell Reuters: “We are not going to rush anything. It is very important that Chelsea have the right owner to guide the club forward.”
Egyptian billionaire Lotfy Mansour has already pulled out of the race to purchase the club.
    Chelsea’s London Football Awards Winners
The London Football Awards celebrate the best the sport has to offer in the capital, as only clubs and players based in London are eligible.
Chelsea had four winners last night, they were:

Samantha Kerr – FA Women’s Super League Player of the Year award.
Edouard Mendy – Goalkeeper of the Year award.
Conor Gallagher – Men’s Young Player of Year.
Emma Hayes – Outstanding Contribution to London Football award.

Chelsea academy product and potential summer signing – Declan Rice – picked up the Premier League Player award, which will maybe just add a few more pennies to his summer transfer fee.
    ‘He cares about the club’
Thomas Tuchel praised Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich in his earlier press conference, after he has come under a lot of fire regarding the sale of CFC.
Tuchel had this to say regarding Abramovich’s tenure at the club:
“He was and he is a very very passionate owner, who cares actually about the team, about the club, about the performance…Which is very rare”
He went on to say how pleased he was that he could win the Club World Cup for Roman, which meant that the owner has won every trophy available to him in football at least once.
Tuchel evidently felt that Roman was entirely deserving of this honour, due to his “passion” and “commitment” to the club.

    Chelsea trio out of Tuch?
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is concerned Chelsea’s out-of-contract stars could leave the club in the summer.
Roman Abramovich putting The Blues up for sale has generated a lot of uncertainty around Stamford Bridge.

Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss and American Todd Boehler are said to be interested but they could restrict spending if they complete a takeover.
And that could mean Chelsea lose defensive trio Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen who are all out of contract in the summer.
Tuchel said: “The bottom line is maybe we can’t help it – it is what it is. You never know maybe it has a positive effect on the negotiations or maybe it has a negative effect.
“We cannot predict and I would like not to predict on scenarios because you just lose focus, but everyone has a different situation and feels different about it (the sale).
“I hope for the best outcome still, I think we have something to offer still. Chelsea are a strong club and will stay a strong club. Our owner decided to sell the club but he sells a strong, solid, organised club at the highest level.”

    Howe put to the sword
Eddie Howe was asked his opinion on Russian ownership being moved out of Everton and Chelsea at his press conference today.
But he did not want to be drawn into the conversation regarding football club ownership, as questions are being raised surrounding Newcastle’s Saudi Arabian ownership, and its integrity.
Howe responded with: “I’m a football manager, I’m coaching the team to get results and that’s all I’m going to comment on.”
We could see Saudi owned clubs face similar consequences to that of Roman Abramovich and Chelsea, as moral questions are asked more frequently.
However, Howe took a similar position to Tuchel before Abramovich put Chelsea up for sale, and did not want to comment on politics.
Utd target Rice dreams of Champions League
Declan Rice says his dreams to play in the Champions League are ‘urgent’ in a major transfer warning to West Ham.
The Hammers midfielder, 23, has been valued at £120million by boss David Moyes with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea showing an interest.
Rice’s current deal with the club runs out in June 2024 – with no talks so far to extend.

Different Nev set for Old Trafford?
Barcelona and Manchester United are both being linked with Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves.
And The Mail claim the La Liga giants have already been in talks with the Portugal playmaker’s representatives.
    Credit: Getty
Barca and Wolves have already agreed one deal this year after Adama Traore moved to Spain on loan during the January transfer window.
However, United are considered long-term admirers of Neves and would be favourites to land the 24-year-old if he decided to stay in the Premier League.
Neves has little over a year to run on his current deal at Molineux, having joined the club at a teenager in 2017.
    Oi Oi Oi Hudson Odoi
Lazio manager and ex-Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is allegedly interested in bringing Chelsea academy product Callum Hudson-Odoi to Serie A. That is according to Gazzetta dello Sport (Via Lazionews24)
Sarri worked with Hudson-Odoi during his Chelsea tenure, and is apparently keen on bringing the now 21-year-old to Lazio.

CHO as he is commonly referred to, is a natural winger, blessed with immense skill and the ability to beat a man, but his lack of end product has seemingly crippled his Chelsea future.
He has plenty of time on his side to work his way into becoming a regular at CFC, but some time abroad may do his career some good, in a similar means to Tammy Abraham or Jadon Sancho.
It is not long ago he was linked with a big money move to Bayern Munich, and it should not be forgotten what a talent Chelsea have on their hands.
    Ollie Gunner sold star?
Arsenal have been given the go-ahead to approach Aston Villa’s Englnd striker Ollie Watkins, say Football Insider.
Steven Gerrard is said to be willing to listen to offers for the 26-year-old, who he is doesn’t see as the ideal striker to take the club forward.
But Watkins has been a mainstay of the Villa attack since Dean Smith paid £28million in 2020 for the player he previously worked with at Brentford.
The Gunners require urgent reinforcements in attack following the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang last month, and Mikel Arteta is said to be an admirer of Watkins.
Watkins has only managed six Premier League goals so far this season, having struck 14 last term.
    18 Points from 6 games?
Chelsea will be looking to win all the games aforementioned, as they only face one team in the Premier Leagues current top 10 (Southampton).
However, the Premier League is never easy, and fans would not be surprised to see a slip up involved in those games, most likely to come away to Burnley tomorrow, or away to Southampton.
Brentford have also proved tricky opponents at times this season, but have faced a downturn in for recently, as they have failed to win a league game since they beat Aston Villa 2-1 on January 2nd.
Chelsea will look to goal scorers Romelu Lukaku and Kai Havertz who will need to be in good form if they are to win all 6 of these games.
They also face an FA Cup tie away to Middlesbrough and a UCL tie away to Lille this month, which they are leading 2-0 on aggregate.

    ‘Not good news’- Conte speaks
Antonio Conte has spoken out on Roman Abramovich and his sale of Chelsea Football Club.
The former Chelsea boss was very successful for the blues when he was in charge, winning the Premier League in 2016-17, followed by cup glory in 17-18, but he was sacked due to a fifth place league finish.
His sacking cost Roman £26million in compensation and legal fees, as Conte sued the club in a lengthy legal battle that dragged on for a while.
In a press conference today he spoke out and said: “It is not good news for Chelsea fans.” He seemed complimentary of the work Roman had done with the blues.
Chelsea have beaten Conte’s Tottenham twice in 2022 already, and have not conceded a goal to the lilywhites since August 2021.
    Turkish billionaire puts in bid
Turkish billionaire Muhsin Bayrak has made an offer to Roman Abramovich to buy Chelsea FC.
According to Turkish journalist Yeni Safak, he has stated: “We are in the negotiation phase with signatures, we will fly the Turkish flag in London soon.”
Muhsin Bayrak is the Chairman of the AB Grup Holding, and has an alleged net worth of $11 Billion.
He is invested in construction, energy, tourism and cryptocurrency.
It is not yet understood what the bid amount was, or if talks will progress.
    ‘This will not be rushed’
One of Roman Abramovich’s advisors has stated that the sale of the club will not be rushed.
Joe Ravitch is the co-founder of Raine Group LLC, who have been tasked with helping to find a buyer by the Premier League. The asking price is $3billion.
Reuters report that Ravitch stated that there is a desire to find a balance between someone who can financially support and afford the club, as well as being the “best steward” for the blues and their fans.
“We are not going to rush anything” he stated.
Chelsea have allegedly already turned down an offer of $2.5billion, with Todd Boehly and Hansjorg Wyss looking to take over ownership from Roman.

    Egyptian billionaire says no deal
Chelsea fan and billionaire Loutfy Mansour has pulled out of the race to buy Chelsea from Roman Abramovich.
The development is a major boost for the American-Swiss billionaire consortium of Todd Boehly and Hansjorg Wyss, who continue to pose as favourites to take over the Blues.
The Egyptian businessman is a Chelsea fan and season ticket holder, and has addressed the idea that he may be taking over as owner from Roman.
A spokesperson told The Guardian: “In light of the recent media speculation, we want to make it clear that we are not pursuing a bid for Chelsea Football Club at this time.”
It would have been somewhat reassuring to the Chelsea fanbase that a fan of the club would be the owner once again, but it looks like that may be a distant dream as the Boehly and Wyss deal moves closer.
    Chelsea face Kounde transfer battle
Jules Kounde’s signature is being chased after by a host of Europe’s elite clubs this summer.
Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Barcelona are all reportedly keen on the signature of the Sevilla and France defender.
He is a talented, young, central defender, who can also play on the right flank if required, as he has done for France when Benjamin Pavard has been unavailable.
He is just 23-years-old, and would be seen as the perfect replacement by many Chelsea fans for Cesar Azpilicueta, who is set to leave the blues for Barcelona this summer.
Chelsea reportedly had a deal agreed to sign Kounde in the summer, reported by SunSport, but it fell through and left the Frenchman unhappy.
    Middlesbrough boss gives Chelsea verdict
Chris Wilder is a manager who has been exceptional throughout the years, and is proving to do the magic with his Middlesbrough side this season.
Boro have already beaten Manchester United and most recently Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup this season. They were rewarded with a draw at home to the world champions Chelsea in the quarter-finals.
Chelsea came back from behind twice to beat fellow Championship side Luton Town 3-2 in the FA Cup fifth round, and would expect to cruise past Middlesbrough on paper.
Boro boss Chris Wilder will be looking to cause yet another upset, and claimed “It’s the home draw we were all after,” via the Northern Echo.
He also stated: “They’re the World champions and the Champions League holders, so to have them at home in the FA Cup in the middle of March is brilliant.”
    Xavi prioritises signing Chelsea’s Azpi
Barcelona are keen to bolster their defensive solidity next season, as they look to rebuild, and become feared amongst Europe’s elite once more.
They see Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta as key to achieving this, as Xavi Hernandez has identified the blues legend as the perfect player for the job.
The 32-year-old is out of contract at Stamford Bridge, and whilst it is expected that new owners will not disrupt contract talks, he is expected to leave regardless in the summer.
‘Dave’ as he is known to the Chelsea faithful, is still an exceptional defender, and capable of getting the job done at right back, left back and in the centre of defence.
The Catalan club are reportedly planning to offer Azpi a two-year contract which runs until 2024. They are also keen on Danish blues defender Andreas Christensen, who is a long term option aged 25.

    Two players from fully fit
After welcoming back Reece James in the painful Carabao Cup final last Sunday, Chelsea are looking to get back to business with the team nearing full fitness.
It is well documented that 1st choice left wing back Ben Chilwell will be out for the rest of the season, but he is the only major injury for the blues.
In today’s press conference, Thomas Tuchel confirmed that captain Cesar Azpilicueta will not be fit to face Burnley, as he has a minor knock.
This is great news for Chelsea fans, who had cause for concern after a host of players missed out on the FA Cup clash with Luton Town, including Hakim Ziyech, Thiago Silva and Andreas Christiansen.
Chelsea could be looking at just one unfit player leading into the final third of the season, which is good news amongst the chaos surrounding the club as they look for FA Cup and Champions League glory.

    ‘No talks’ for summer transfers
Chelsea are a club that have always spent big on new players, and this summer was expected to be no different. Tuchel was expected to be backed with big money to make the club title challengers next season.
With Roman Abramovic’s departure, it has been heavily discussed amongst concerned fans that Chelsea’s spending habits could face a decline.
Speaking in the pre-Burnley press conference today Tuchel stated: “To be very honest there are no talks about summer, not with Marina or Petr.”
“It’s simply too early. There are always ideas and reflections on the subject but the main focus was on the last weeks, even without the noise.”
Chelsea fans will be hoping that plans to sign players such as Declan Rice and Jules Kounde, will not be disrupted with new owners inbound.
    Tuchel’s love for ‘perfect’ club
Thomas Tuchel is adamant that he has no plans to leave Chelsea despite the club’s impending sale by Roman Abramovich, and the reported departures of Bruce Buck and Marina Granovskaia.
The Blues boss was asked if he had considered his future following a week of upheaval at Stamford Bridge, but insisted he is more than happy and believes issues at the club will soon settle.
Speaking at his Friday press conference, the German coach said: “I love working in the Premier League. I love to be in England and feel the tradition and love for sport, and for football in particular. It is an amazing place to be.
“For me, Chelsea is the perfect fit. I love to be here, I love everything about the club, and I hope it continues.
“There is now an uncertainty but isn’t it always as a football manager? I’m trained to live with it, although at different levels – and this is quite the level, I have to be honest. But I am positive and I hope things will end well.”

    Spurs eyeing double defensive swoop
Tottenham are preparing for a summer rebuild under Antonio Conte, and already have two young defenders in their sights that they envisage being part of the Italian’s revolution.
The Mail report that RB Leipzig’s centre-back Josko Gvardiol is Spurs’ top target, and they hope that a transfer fee of around £50million will be enough to get the deal done.
The 20-year-old Croatian has excelled in Germany since moving from Dinamo Zagreb, and has caught the eye of Europe’s top clubs. His reputation has long been known to those in England with Leeds having an £18million bid rejected in 2020.
Elsewhere, Conte wants Spurs to beat off any rivals for Middlesbrough’s Djed Spence.
The rampaging right-back has won many admirers on loan at Nottingham Forest this season, but Goal believe the north London club are favourites to capture his signature.
    Saliba could stay at Marseille
Marseille president Pablo Longoria wants William Saliba at the club next season – either on another loan or following a permanent transfer.
The Ligue 1 outfit’s chief was talking to La Provence (via Tribal Football), and hailed the Arsenal loanee as ‘one of the best young defenders’ he’d ever seen.
Saliba has enjoyed another fine season away from the Emirates, playing all but one game for Marseille as they sit second in the table behind PSG.
A huge number of Arsenal fans are hoping to see Saliba in their side for many years to come, but Longoria’s comments may now cause them some concern.
He said: “Everything depends on the three parties. It’s a matter of market value, but we have extraordinary relations with Arsenal.”
    ‘World class’ centre-back essential
Manchester United are prepared to spend big to bring in a ‘world class’ centre-back this summer, according to The Mail.
It is understood that strengthening the position is viewed as fundamental by those at the club.
It adds further weight to yesterday’s reports that senior players are said to be unhappy with Harry Maguire’s prominence within the first team.
The Red Devils have been linked with Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger, Borussia Dortmund’s Manuel Akanji and Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo.
    Old Lady to release Ramsey
Juventus are preparing to cancel Aaron Ramsey’s contract this summer, leaving the Welsh international without a club.
Calciomercato report (Via the Mirror) that the Serie A giants are ready to take a hit on the injury-prone midfielder despite two years still remaining on his deal.
Ramsey is currently on loan at Rangers in the Scottish Premiership, but has found his time in Glasgow hampered by fitness issues.
And as a result, the Ibrox club have decided against making the deal permanent at the end of the season.
Juve considered releasing Ramsey in January until Rangers came calling.

    Gunners exploring South American market
Arsenal are monitoring players in South America as a direct result of Brexit, report football.london.
The Gunners made the conscious decision after it became apparent that signing players from second tier European leagues would now be a complicated procedure.
Many South American countries are considered a higher calibre by authorities, meaning work permits for players in those leagues would be easier to obtain than their European counterparts.
One such player on Arsenal’s radar is Peruvian right-back Jhilmar Lora. The 21-year-old is seen as an exciting prospect, and already has six international caps for his country.
    Lampard explains Mykolenko withdrawal
Everton manager Frank Lampard has revealed that he substituted Vitalii Mykolenko as a precaution in last night’s FA Cup win over non-league Boreham Wood.
Ukrainian Mykolenko was named as the Toffees captain for the night in a show of solidarity with the player over Russia’s invasion of his home country.
However, the defender was substituted for Seamus Coleman on the hour mark, having picked up a knock.
Lampard explained that the issue wasn’t serious, but the club didn’t want to take any risks: “It’s a dead leg. It’s high-up so hopefully not too bad.”

    Roman Abramovich’s Chelsea sale ‘unfair’
Newcastle co-owner Amanda Staveley doesn’t believe that it is ‘particularly fair’ that Roman Abramovich is having to sell Chelsea following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The Russian billionaire made the decision after facing calls to be sanctioned over his alleged links to Vladimir Putin.
Speaking at the Financial Times Business of Football Summit, Staveley said: “We’re always going to have geopolitical issues. I’m really sad that someone is going to have a football club taken away because of a relationship he may have with someone.
“I don’t think that’s particularly fair to be honest – but we do have to hold all of our relationships to account.”
Staveley also responded to reports that she had previously tried to purchase the Blues. She said: “Chelsea is a wonderful club, but there was only one club for us, and will only ever be one club for us.

Everton 2-0 Boreham Wood LIVE RESULT: Rondon double sees Toffees down National League side to set up Palace tie

EVERTON have beaten Boreham Wood to reach the FA Cup quarter-final.It took 55 minutes for the Toffees to break the National League side’s resistance but Salomon Rondon managed to steal in at the near post and put them ahead.
And he then bagged a second as goalkeeper Taye Ashby-Hammond palmed the Venezuelan’s header away only to find the ball had already crossed the line.
As a result, Everton face Crystal Palace away in the FA Cup quarter-final.
That’s all from us at Goodison Park
So, Everton are off to Selhurst Park for the quarter finals to play what promises to be a very intriguing tie against Crystal Palace.
It’s the end of the road for National League Boreham Wood, who will make the long trip home to prepare for their fight for promotion.
But, what a story they have given us. Goodnight!
‘I needed to play’ – Kane Smith
Boreham Wood midfielder, Kane Smith received a standing ovation from the fans after playing 70 minutes against his beloved Everton club, despite still nursing an injury.
Oh, the magic of the FA Cup, making dreams come true.
    The Garrard’s British Bulldogs
These were the words written on a banner paraded around the pitch by Boreham Wood manager, Luke Garrard.
His side certainly guarded their goal for the first half, but couldn’t sustain the tempo in the second.
‘I love all of you’ he shouts at the travelling fans, before starting the chant ‘we are going up, we are going up!’
In truth, this is the real aim of Boreham Wood’s season, and the fans will hope that tonight’s experience will help them towards promotion.
    Good job, sir.
    FULL-TIME – Everton 2-0 Boreham Wood
    Rondon chops The Wood
The Toffees striker puts end to Boreham Wood’s fairytale Cup Run.
It’s all finished at Goodison Park, with Everton knocking the National league side out of the FA Cup. Their wonderful adventure comes to an end at the hands, or should I say feet and head, of Salomon Rondon, who scored both goals in a much improved Everton second half.
Boreham Wood stayed in the game for 57 minutes, but struggled to get a hold of any kind of possession. In the end the players couldn’t withhold the constant Everton attacks on their goal. But the non-league side should be very proud of how far they’ve come.
    Everton 2-0 Boreham Wood
89, Seamus Coleman goes down on the edge of the area under a challenge.
Richarlison’s effort from the free kick is way off target.
    It’s just not his night.
Everton 2-0 Boreham Wood – Boreham Wood substitution
88, Both strikers Marsh and Bowden are replaced by Clifton and Ranger.
Everton 2-0 Boreham Wood – Substitution for Everton
88, Allan and Keane are off for Welsh and Price
Everton 2-0 Boreham Wood – Everton substitution
85, It’s the end of the game for Gordon, who is replaced by Dobbin.
    GOAL! Everton 2-0 Boreham Wood
    83, Rondon scores again!
Townsend goes short for the corner and floats the ball into the area. Rondon jumps highest to head it beyond the goalkeeper who gets a hand to it, but can’t keep it out of the net.
    Everton 1-0 Boreham Wood
    82, What a challenge!
Some excellent build up play from the Toffees. The ball arrives at Richarlison’s feet, but as he goes to strike it, Rees slides in for a goal saving challenge, conceding a corner ball.
    Everton 1-0 Boreham Wood
80, Richarlison gets in behind but hits the side netting after being ruled offside.
10 minutes to go now, and it’s all Everton. But it only takes one chance fro Boreham Wood to turn this tie on it’s head.
    Everton 1-0 Boreham Wood
78, Gordon has yet another effort on goal. This one flies into the stands. The young Englishman is confident enough to shoot at every opportunity at the moment.
He clearly wants a goal, but he’s going to have to do better than that.
    Everton 1-0 Boreham Wood
74, Richarlison bends a shot towards the keeper’s left, but he gets down low to deny the forward.
The resulting corner comes off Allan for a goal kick.
Everton 1-0 Boreham Wood – Substitution for Borham Wood
72, Connor Smith is on for Kane Smith. How useful.
GOAL DISSALOWED – Everton 1-0 Borham Wood
70, Richarlison is judged to have handled the ball into the net.
Gordon played a vicious ball into the box which bounced off Richarlison’s hand and into the net.
I don’t think the Brazilian new anything about it, but The Wood are lucky.
    GOAL! Everton 2-0 Boreham Wood
    Richarlison scores!
Everton 1-0 Boreham Wood – Substitution for Boreham Wood
64, Captain and fourth round hero, Ricketts, makes way for Comley
    Everton 1-0 Boreham Wood
64, Coleman shows too much of the ball to Stevens. But the quick throw releases Gordon who plays a quick one two with Richarlison, before striking towards goal, but the young man can’t make it count.
The chances are coming thick and fast for Everton.
    Everton 1-0 Boreham Wood
60, Gordon weaves down the left hand channel and fires a shot on target. But, the keeper is equal to it.
The pace down Everton’s two flanks is causing Boreham Wood all kinds of problems now
Everton 1-0 Boreham Wood – Everton substitution
58, Mykolenko goes off injured. Coleman is on in his place.
GOAL! Everton 1-0 Boreham Wood – Rondon scores to relieve fans
57, Everton go 1-0 up at last!
Kenny finds himself on the right hand flank once again, and plays a low ball across the box. Rondon is first to meet it, and slides the ball inside Ashby-Hammond’s near post.
A sweet finish, and the deadlock is broken.
    Everton 0-0 Boreham Wood
54, A poor Everton ball is played straight into Marsh’s feet. The Wood striker has a hit, but it flies well over the Everton goal.
More mistakes from Everton, and the crowd aren’t happy.
    Everton 0-0 Boreham Wood
52, A beautiful turn by Gordon who is growing into this game.
He gets a shot off but it’s blocked and back with goalkeeper, Ashby-Hammond, now.
You get the sense another opportunity might be on it’s way for Everton any minute.
    Everton 0-0 Boreham Wood
    What a chance!
50, Rondon’s got to score! An inch perfect delivery by Kenny from the right hand side is straight on to the striker’s head. But, with the whole goal to aim at, he sends it well over the bar.
That’s the best chance of the game so far.
    Everton 0-0 Boreham Wood
47, Mykolenko slides the ball across across the 18 yard box. Rondon is not far away from connecting with it, and it’s out for a throw.
    Early dangerous signs from Everton.

FA Cup quarter-final draw LIVE: Middlesbrough vs Chelsea, Liverpool could face Nottingham Forest away – latest reaction

THE FA Cup quarter-final draw has been made. And Middlesbrough will have to pull off a third giant killing as they host Chelsea.

    Crystal Palace vs Everton
Nottingham Forest or Huddersfield vs Liverpool
    Middlesbrough vs Chelsea
    Southampton vs Manchester City

    Boro hoping to beat Blues
Middlesbrough face a tough task against Chelsea.
That’s because the Blues have won the EIGHT meetings between the two sides.
The last time Boro beat Chelsea was in 2006.
And the match is also a repeat of the iconic 1997 final, which saw the Londoners emerged victorious.
    FT – Everton 2 Boreham Wood 0
Crystal Palace will play Everton in the FA Cup quarters after the Toffees beat Boreham Wood 2-0.
Salomon Rondon scored both goals in Thursday’s 5th round tie as the minnows failed to provide an upset.

    Up for the FA Cup
Chelsea are on the hunt for their NINTH FA Cup.
Liverpool are hoping for Cup number eight.
And City need one more for seven.
    Who are FA Cup holders?
Leicester City are the current FA Cup champions after beating Chelsea in last year’s final.
Youri Tieleman’s 63rd minute rocket secured a famous 1-0 win for the Foxes at Wembley.
But Leicester crashed out this season in the fourth round to Nottingham Forest, losing 4-1 to the Championship outfit.
    Do quarters have extra time?
All FA Cup quarter-final matches will have 30 minutes of extra time if it is a draw after 90 minutes.
There will then be penalties if neither side finds a breakthrough in ET.
FA Cup quarter-final replays were scrapped entirely from 2016.
    Eyes on the cash prize
Victors in the quarter-final will receive a cash prize of £360,000.
That’s miles ahead of the paltry £100k Liverpool got for beating Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final.
    When will quarters be played?
All four games will be played later this month.
They will take place on the weekend of Friday 18 March to Monday 21 March.
After that, it will be a trip to Wembley for the four sides in the semis.
    Taking nothing for granted
Everton had time to tweet their quarter-final draw news before they kicked off against Boreham Wood.
And they pointed out they will only visit Crystal Palace IF they beat the National League side.
Goodison fans seemed happy enough – although some noted that ‘big three’ Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea had again been kept apart.

    ‘Lucky’ Liverpool and Man City?
Fans of the Prem top two have been swapping jibes about ‘easy draws’ after tonight’s FA Cup quarter-final line-up was unveiled.
    Yet both were drawn away.
Liverpool face in-form Nottingham Forest or the Midlanders’ high-flying Championship rivals Huddersfield.
And City visit Prem rivals Southampton.

Can Wood move from Park to Palace?
Boreham Wood have kicked off at Everton in their bid to become only the second non-League team in the modern era to reach the FA Cup quarter-finals.
And if Wood triumph at Goodison Park then the National Leaguers will travel to another top-flight side in Crystal Palace in the last eight.
Will Blues be on cloud nine?
Chelsea being drawn away to Middlesbrough in the quarter-finals will probably has perhaps boosted their hopes of winning the FA Cup for the ninth time.

    Our regular reminder…
    Here’s the full draw again:
    Crystal Palace vs Everton/Boreham Wood
    Nottm Forest/Huddersfield vs Liverpool
    Middlesbrough vs Chelsea
    Southampton vs Man City
    It’s not a fix…
Football chiefs can’t win with sceptical fans when it comes to draws.
Keeping the ‘big clubs’ apart means it’s a stitch-up to help the elite.
Pair them together then it’s a conspiracy against one of those teams – or a plot to help ANOTHER of the giants.
Or at least that’s the case if you believe social media.
Here are two of tonight’s first such messages following the quarter-final draw..

    What price a treble?
Middlesbrough could land an all-time great ‘TREBLE UPSET’ upset if they beat Chelsea in the FA Cup last eight.
Having beaten Spurs and Man Utd in the past two rounds, the Championship club now host Champions League holders Chelsea.

    FULL Q/F DRAW – RECAP
    Crystal Palace vs Everton/Boreham Wood
    Nottm Forest/Huddersfield vs Liverpool
    Middlesbrough vs Chelsea
    Southampton vs Man City
Southgate hands home draws for his old clubs
Gareth Southgate joked he did the best he could for his two old clubs in tonight’s draw – by handing them home quarter-final ties,
Man Utd’s conquerors Middlesbrough host Chelsea.
And Crystal Palace have a winnable clash with Everton or Boreham Wood
    Southampton vs Man City
    Middlesbrough vs Chelsea

    Southgate picks 2 special memories
Southgate says Ricky Villa’s solo goal for Tottenham in 2010 and Man Utd vs Arsenal are among his favourite final memories.
Southgate hails ‘united’ response to Russian aggression
Before he picks out the balls, Gareth Southgate hailed football’s ‘united response’ to Russia’s ‘unacceptable’ invasion of Russia.
    Here we go…
The draw’s starting at Wembley, with Gareth Southgate shuffling the balls.
    Crouch and you’ll miss it…
Moments ahead of tonight’s draw, here’s a flashback to one of the FA Cup’s most memorable ball-picking episodes.
