Talks between Chelsea and Chicago Fire’s Gabriel Slonina have broken down, according to reports.

However, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the deal recently collapsed due to the sanctions that have been placed on the club by the UK Government.
On Twitter, he announced: “Chelsea were in advanced talks to sign talented Chicago Fire goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina, born in 2004.

Marin rarely had a spot in the starting line-up whilst at Chelsea, so the club decided to loan him out for four consecutive seasons before selling him to Olympiacos in 2016.
The midfielder currently plays for Ferencvaros where he has scored one goal in 13 appearances so far this season.
However, Marin has made it clear that he has no intention to continue playing once the season is over.
Shortlisted bidders to meet with Tuchel and Granovskaia
Potential Chelsea buyers will be given the opportunity to hold talks with manager Thomas Tuchel and Marina Granovskaia before a £2.5billion takeover.
Chelsea have whittled down their list of potential buyers to just a handful of consortiums.
The Blues are now set to choose from options that includes a group involving Seb Coe, ex-Liverpool chairman Martin Broughton and two American businessmen.
And according to The Times, all parties will be given the opportunity to hold talks with manager Tuchel and director Granovskaia.

Those talks could prove pivotal to swaying who is ultimately named as the preferred bidder.
Granovskaia is close to Abramovich and oversees the club’s transfer business.
The 47-year-old has been a key part of Abramovich’s real inner circle for the best part of two decades.

Hazard unlikely to play in quarter-final clash
Real Madrid star Eden Hazard is unlikely to be involved in the Champions League quarter-final clash against former club Chelsea.
That is according to The Athletic, who report that Hazard is a doubt for the first leg against the Blues on April 6 at Stamford Bridge due to injury.
The winger is expected to have surgery on his right leg in order to remove a plate, which was implanted after he broke his ankle in March 2020.

Real released the following statement: “In the coming days, our player, Eden Hazard, will undergo surgery to remove the osteosynthesis plate in his right fibula.”
Hazard has been enduring another difficult season marred by injury as he has only made eight starts in LaLiga this season.
The Belgium international has fallen down the pecking order behind the likes of Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo.
    Good morning to Chelsea fans
Boston Celtics owner Stephen Pagliuca has also made it on to the shortlist of potential Chelsea owners.
Pagliuca also owns Italian football team Atalanta and is the fourth bidder to make the cut.
He joins Tom Ricketts, Todd Boehly and Sir Martin Broughton in the next round of bidding for the Blues.
However, Tom Ricketts still faces an uphill battle convincing fans he can run the club to their liking.
A statement from the Chelsea Supporters’ Trust read: “The Chelsea Supporters’ Trust is grateful to the Ricketts family for meeting with us this week. We challenged them on all the points supporters have raised concerns about.
“However, our concerns about their ability to run an inclusive, successful club on behalf of our diverse supporter base around the world have not yet been allayed.”
But Chelsea’s board – not the Raine Group – will reportedly decide who will become the Blues’ new owner.
The Raine Group have played a key role thus far whittling down the large swathe of wannabe owners down to just four prospects.
But it’s been reported that they are just advising Chelsea’s board which is composed of Marina Granovskaia, Bruce Buck, Eugene Tenenbaum and David Barnard.
The Blues’ owner debacle could be sorted by the end of April, reports claim.
Raine Group have told all potential owners that they may reach a decision over the Blues sale next month, according to the Evening Standard.
And finally, Roman Abramovich may not be around for the sale of the club as he’s allegedly playing the mediator between Russian president Vladimir Putin and his American adversary Joe Biden in Poland.
The oligarch took the train to Poland on Thursday using his Portuguese passport, reports claim.
TVN reporter Jakob Stachowiak said on social media: “Yesterday he came to Poland in secret from Ukraine by the smart train.
“Interestingly, he used a Portuguese passport. Perhaps there will be an informal meeting with the president. Has Putin sent a billionaire?
“The oligarch got to Poland from the territory of Ukraine, where he was allegedly talking to President Volodymir Zelensky.”

Boston Celtics owner Stephen Pagliuca has also made it onto the shortlist.
Pagliuca also owns Italian football team Atalanta and is the fourth bidder to make the cut.
He joins Tom Ricketts, Todd Boehly and Sir Martin Broughton in the next round of bidding for the Blues.
    Ricketts ongoing battle
Tom Ricketts still faces an uphill battle convincing fans he can run the club to their liking.
A statement from the Chelsea Supporters’ Trust read: “The Chelsea Supporters Trust is grateful to the Ricketts family for meeting with us this week. We challenged them on all the points supporters have raised concerns about.
“However, our concerns about their ability to run an inclusive, successful club on behalf of our diverse supporter base around the world have not yet been allayed.”
    Ricketts in next round
Tom Ricketts is through to round two of the Chelsea bidding war after meeting fans on his charm offensive to win their backing.
The controversial American was notified on Friday night that his family’s offer has made it onto the shortlist of candidates to buy the £3billion-rated Premier League side.
And Ricketts is now on his way back to the US following talks with supporters’ groups in London aimed at calming fears over an historic racism storm.
    Alonso wants La Liga transfer
Marcos Alonso has admitted that he would like to return to LaLiga one day.
The Chelsea defender will have just one year remaining on his current contract this summer.
Quizzed about a potential transfer while on international duty, the Spaniard said: “I would love to play in LaLiga, all my life I have wanted to play and be here in Spain, but the circumstances have been different and not everything has depended on me.
“At the moment I am focused on this season and what has to be, will be.”
    Unknown bidder in the race
An unknown bidder has emerged as a front-runner to buy Chelsea.
Todd Boehly and Sir Martin Broughton are the two parties leading the race to buy the Blues with the Ricketts family still in the mix.
However, there’s an anonymous potential buyer in the running, according to the BBC.
    Chelsea owner race heats up
Chelsea will have new owners by the end of April, reports claim.
Raine Group have told all potential owners that they may reach a decision over the Blues sale next month, according to the Evening Standard.
Sir Martin Broughton and Todd Boehly were informed that they will progress to the next stage of bidding.
However, The Ricketts family were still awaiting confirmation, but are positive they will also be in the running going forward.
    Hazard’s scheduled surgery
Real Madrid star Eden Hazard looks likely to miss the chance to play old club Chelsea in the Champions League due to injury.
Real head to Stamford Bridge for the Champions League quarter finals clash on April 6.
But Hazard is scheduled to have leg surgery that will probably rule him out of the game.
A club statement read: “In the coming days, our player, Eden Hazard, will undergo surgery to remove the osteosynthesis plate in his right fibula.”
    Ricketts family issue statement
The Ricketts family have released a statement that they’re still keen on buying Chelsea.
The family addressed Blues fans in the statement and stated that they had listened to the West London club’s supporters fears.
Tom Ricketts said: “My family and I are very grateful to all of the fans and supporters’ groups who took time to meet with us this week and share their passion and concerns for Chelsea Football Club.
“It’s clear you have nothing but the best interests of the club at heart. We have listened to all of your feedback – including from the Chelsea Supporters’ Trust – and are grateful that the door is still open for us to demonstrate our commitment to working with fans to protect the club’s heritage.
“It is now up to us to redouble our efforts and clearly lay out a vision for our stewardship of the club with diversity and inclusion at its heart.”
Capello slams Lukaku and Abraham’s ability
Fabio Capello has suggested the arrivals of Romelu Lukaku and Tammy Abraham in the Serie A highlights the decline of Italy’s homegrown talent.
Capello claims there are not enough young Italian players coming through the ranks in the Serie A.
And he reckons the successes of ‘average’ Abraham this season with Roma and Lukuka with Inter in the last campaign shows how poor the quality of the Italian league is.
As both players have been average in the Premier League.
Capello said to Sky Sports Italy: “There are not enough young Italian players, but there is a wrong idea at its base. We are the country of the back pass to the goalkeeper.
“Victor Osimhen, Romelu Lukaku and Tammy Abraham were just normal strikers abroad. They became champions in Italy. This should raise some questions.”
    Chelsea supporters worried by Ricketts
Chelsea fans have mobilised on social media this week in their protestation against the Ricketts family’s proposed takeover of their football club, and now the Chelsea Supporters Trust have issued a statement of concern too.
Following the unease with which the news of the Ricketts’ official offer was greeted, the family met with the Chelsea Supporters Trust earlier this week to discuss their intentions.
However, it is understood that fans’ initial concerns have not been appeased, resulting in this afternoon’s correspondence.
The statement reads: “It is essential that the new owners of the club has the confidence of the supporter base and demonstrate an understanding of the values that we stand for.
“That is why the strength of feeling towards the Ricketts family bid from Chelsea supporters cannot and must not be ignored.
“The CST are grateful to the Ricketts family for meeting with us this week. We challenged them on all the points supporters have raised concerns about.
“However, our concerns about their ability to run an inclusive, successful club on behalf of our diverse supporter base around the world have not yet been allayed.”

    Ziyech has overcome system struggle
Hakim Ziyech has admitted that it took him time to adjust to Thomas Tuchel’s preferred system when the German arrived, but now the once-struggling Moroccan is thriving.
The former Ajax man was brought to Stamford Bridge as a winger in 2020, and operated mainly on the right under Frank Lampard’s management.
However, since Tuchel took charge, The Blues have often set up with three centre-halves and two wing-backs, meaning that Ziyech has played most of his football in a central position.
In an interview with ChelseaTV (via 90Min), Ziyech revealed: “[The system] affects me, of course.
“Everybody knows that if I play wide, it’s my best position. When we play four at the back, most of the time I play on the right.
“When we play a back five, we play a different system. I think during the time since [Tuchel] came, I’ve adapted well.
“I think I had more problems that most of the players because I’d never played with a back five. I needed some time and I took that time to adapt, to learn from it and to improve.
“I think in that role, things are much better now than in the beginning.”

    Takeover latest: Some Candy talking
Nick Candy’s offer to purchase Chelsea has not made Raine Group’s official shortlist – but the property developer may yet be in with a chance of being part of the club’s ownership.
According to the BBC’s Alistair Magowan, Candy’s Blue Football Consortium have claimed that they have been asked to speak to other bidders and that those talks are now underway.
The bids from the consortiums led by Todd Boehly and Sir Martin Broughton are understood to be the frontrunners to takeover at Stamford Bridge.
    Cup semi-final date confirmed
The date for Chelsea’s FA Cup semi-final with Crystal Palace has been officially confirmed this morning.
The Blues will face the The Eagles at Wembley on Sunday, 17 April with the game scheduled to kick-off at 4.30pm.
Following successful talks between the government and the football club, Chelsea will be allowed to sell tickets to supporters for the showpiece semi.
Manchester City will face Liverpool in the FA Cup’s other semi-final with that game taking place the previous say at 3.30pm.
    Azpi has choice to make
Cesar Azpilicueta is unsure whether to stay at Chelsea or sign for Barcelona, according to reports.
Azpilicueta, 32, could leave the club for free this summer and has already snubbed several offers from the Blues to extend his deal.
The Express claims that the club captain is still torn on what he should do next.
The Spanish star ‘feels deeply rooted’ in London and is ‘proud’ to have been Chelsea skipper since 2019.
But he has been offered an initial two-year deal at Barcelona and the lure of going back to his motherland.
Azpilicueta has refused to commit to either Chelsea or Catalonia as he decides.
Speaking at a press conference whilst on international duty, the wing-back said: “My future? It’s not the place or time to discuss it.
    Boehly will bring in Mahrez
Todd Boehly’s consortium will take over at Stamford Bridge this summer – and immediately pinch Riyad Mahrez from Manchester City.
That’s the latest suggestion from the rumour mill should the American businessman’s bid prove successful.
Boehly is said to be worth £5billion, and his offer is backed by Clearlake Capital, who have assets worth over £60billion.
And the prospective new owners want to make a statement by taking a star player from one of their Premier League rivals.
Despite Mahrez’s sensational form for City, the Algerian has been repeatedly linked with a move away with just over a year to run on his contract.
Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and Real Madrid are also said to be interested in the forward.
    Lukaku linked with PSG move
Paris Saint-Germain could be about to end Romelu Lukaku’s Chelsea nightmare.
The Belgian hitman has endured a torrid time since returning to Stamford Bridge last summer.
Despite arriving for £100m, the 28-year-old has managed just 12 goals in 34 appearances, and now appears second-choice behind Kai Havertz.
Lukaku has previously attempted to manoeuvre a move back to Inter Milan, having publicly aired his unhappiness at Chelsea during a misguided interview with Sky Italia.
And now, according to Caught Offside, big-spending PSG are plotting a move for the striker as they look to revamp their attacking options in the close season.
Ricketts family ‘confident’ of making shortlist
Sky Sports report that the Ricketts family are still in the running to buy Chelsea.
The owners of the Chicago Cubs are said to be ‘confident’ of joining Sir Martin Broughton and Todd Boehly on the shortlist currently being drawn up by Raine Group.
The suggestion will be a concern to Blues supporters who have made their thoughts on the prospective American owners clear.
Chelsea fans have mobilised on social media in recent days using the hashtag #NoToRicketts.

ARSENAL summer signing Ben White has responded to the criticism from Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher at the start of the season. The recent England international mentioned that it is not a nice feeling but gave him more of an incentive to prove them wrong.
Meanwhile, Wolves talisman Pedro Neto’s situation at Molineux is being monitored by the Gunners according to reports.
The Portuguese sensation is currently going through contractual talks but is yet to sign on the dotted line.
And former Arsenal skipper Laurent Koscielny has announced his retirement from football at the age of 36.

Stay up to date with all the latest from the Emirates in our live blog…
    Tite linked with Gunners
Brazil boss Tite is reportedly in talks with Arsenal over a potential job once he departs his position after the 2022 World Cup.
The 60-year-old is poised to leave his role within the Selecao set-up later this year after the tournament in Qatar.
And it has been claimed that he could be heading to the Emirates following discussions with Gunners technical director Edu.

The pair worked together when Tite was the Corinthians gaffer and Edu was their director of football.
During ESPN’s broadcast of Brazil’s 4-0 win against Chile on Thursday, in which Gabriel Martinelli made his international debut, TV Globo reporter Eric Faria spoke of the talks.
He said: “There is already a negotiation of Tite to work in English football.
“To work at Arsenal. He worked with Edu Gaspar.
“There is the intention, negotiations have started.”
How Arsenal lined up the last time Laurent Koscielny played
Laurent Koscielny has announced his retirement from football aged 36 following a bitter January exit from Bordeaux.
Arsenal lined up the last time Laurent Koscielny played with just TWO surviving 2019 Europa League final thrashing.
The defender has departed Ligue Bordeaux 1 after being frozen out, and hasn’t found a club in the meantime.
The former France international also left Arsenal on poor terms back in 2019, following nine years in North London.
Despite being club skipper, Koscielny refused to jet out on their pre-season tour in order to force through a transfer.
He eventually got his wish, meaning that the 2019 Europa League final was the last of his 353 appearances for the club.
Unai Emery’s side were mauled 4-1 by Chelsea that day, with their former forward Olivier Giroud coming back to haunt the Gunners that day – while Eden Hazard put on a masterclass to bring his time at Stamford Bridge to an end.
Arsenal’s starting XI that day featured just two players that remain with the club to this day.

    Xhak attack
Roma have reportedly reignited their interest in signing Granit Xhaka from Arsenal.
Jose Mourinho has been keen to sign the midfielder since he arrived in Italy last year.
Xhaka was also open to the move, but the two clubs could not agree on a fee.
But, according to Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport, a deal could finally be struck this summer.

Mourinho is said to be very impressed with the 29-year-old’s personality and performances this season, so much so that he is eager for the club to make a bid for the upcoming transfer window.
The only potential issue that could prevent the move is the cost.
Arsenal were demanding a fee of at least £21.5million for Xhaka last year, whilst Roma were only willing to pay £10million.

Arsenal and Man Utd ‘consider Tammy Abraham transfer swoop’
Arsenal and Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Tammy Abraham in the summer.
The England international has flourished since leaving Chelsea for Italian giants Roma, scoring 23 goals in 40 appearances for Jose Mourinho’s side this season.

And the former Blues man’s displays in the Italian capital have reportedly caught the eye of United and Arsenal – both of whom are in the market for a new striker.
That’s according to Italian newspaper Il Messaggero, who claim United are contemplating signing Abraham as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.
Arsenal in transfer fight with Spurs for ‘next Patrick Vieira’
Arsenal are reportedly in a transfer battle with rivals Tottenham for Rennes wonderkid Lesley Ugochukwu – dubbed the next Patrick Vieira.
The French midfielder turns 18 today but is already attracting plenty of attention with his performances.
According to L’Equipe, the North London enemies have been taking a keen look at him in recent weeks.
    Credit: Getty
This season he has made 17 appearances across Ligue 1 and the Europa Conference League.
Most of those have been off the bench, including when he scored his only senior goal in a 5-0 thumping of Saint-Etienne in December.
And both Arsenal and Tottenham could look to pounce with summer offers.
    Xhaka ahead of Switzerland clash
Granit Xhaka is delighted Arsenal teammates Aaron Ramsdale and Bukayo Saka will be missing for England’s clash with Switzerland.
But the Swiss skipper, 29, insists he does not fear a Three Lions midfield brimming with talent.
Gunners pair Ramsdale and Saka were originally named in Gareth Southgate’s squad to take on Switzerland and Ivory Coast in friendlies during this international break.
Keeper Ramsdale was ruled out with a hip injury suffered against Liverpool on March 16, while Saka left the camp on Thursday having tested positive for Covid-19.
Xhaka said: “Two of them are not playing so that is good.
“We know the quality they have. Of course, they have a very good generation now, playing well, not only in the national team but with Arsenal as well.
“So, we are happy Saka and Aaron are not playing tomorrow.
“But I think England have a very strong with a lot of young players, and they have experienced players as well.”
Brazil coach Tite in talks with Arsenal

    Good morning to Gunners fans
Mikel Arteta’s long-term future as Arsenal manager is in question after it emerged that talks had taken place between the Premier League club and Brazil coach Tite.
According to sensational reports in South America, Gunners sporting director Edu has identified his compatriot as the man he wants to take the Londoners forward.
Tite is contracted to the Brazil national team until the completion of this year’s World Cup, but could be installed at the Emirates for the beginning of the 2023-24 season.
Meanwhile, Gareth Southgate has revealed that the problem that kept Emile Smith Rowe out of England training this morning is not a major one, but he’s unlikely to feature against Switzerland at Wembley tomorrow.
Discussing fitness issues within the squad at yesterday afternoon’s press conference, the Three Lions boss said: “Emile [Smith Rowe] did not train today so he is unlikely to be involved tomorrow. It’s nothing too serious, but we’ll check on him late to see if he can take part.”
However, Southgate’s perplexed as to why Smith-Rowe’s Arsenal team-mate Bukayo Saka can’t remain on international duty after being struck with Covid.
Southgate said: “I’m lost on the rules really.
“I can’t sit here and give a medical download of all that. I’m not quite sure why he is out because I think you can carry on now with normal life.
“I think people have an ethical responsibility if they’re positive to stay away from others and stop the spread but by the normal rules of life he could carry on.
“Football rules are a bit different but I’m in a maze of confusion frankly.”
Elsewhere, Arsenal have reportedly approached wantaway Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele.
Dembele’s contract with Barca is up in the summer and according to Spanish outlet El Chiringuito TV, the Gunners want to bring him to the Emirates.
Talks between the parties have already begun as the report states Dembele’s agent Moussa Sissoko has met with the North London side.
Finally, Darren Bent doesn’t think Arsenal should try and sign Gareth Bale from Real Madrid.
Bent reckons the Welsh veteran will stifle Saka and Gabriel Martinelli’s growth at the club.
He told talkSPORT: “It’s not that he is not good enough, but he has got Saka in front of him, Martinelli, these guys are getting better and better.
“You don’t want to stunt their development.”
    Xhaka’s joy for England game
Granit Xhaka is happy that Arsenal team-mates Saka and Emile Smith-Rowe will miss England’s game against Switzerland.
The Swiss captain said: “Two of them are not playing tomorrow so it’s good because we know the quality they have.
“Of course they have a very good generation now, playing very well, not only in the national team but with Arsenal as well.
“We’re happy that Saka and Aaron are not playing tomorrow.”
    Campbell praises Ramsdale
Kevin Campbell has praised Aaron Ramsdale’s warm gesture to fellow Arsenal stopper Bernd Leno after the Gunners’ 1-0 win over Aston Villa.
Campbell told Football Insider: “Leno came in and did really well against Aston Villa.
“It was really nice to see Ramsdale push Leno towards the fans to get his acclaim because he deserved it. It was amazing to see.”
    Wolves hope to keep Neves
Wolves have opened contract talks with Ruben Neves in a bid to keep him out of Arsenal’s clutches this summer.
The Arsenal boss sees the £50million-rated Molineux midfielder as key to his rebuilding plans with Manchester United, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain also monitoring Neves, who will have two years left of his current contract this summer.
However Wolves know they must move now to convince Neves to extend his current deal – or cash in this summer while his value remains high, to fund new signings for Bruno Lage.
“We’re obviously talking to him and we all know how much he loves playing for the club. We know how much he has settled here, but he is also an ambitious young man,” said Wolves Technical Director Scott Sellars.
“As with all players, you try and have an open dialogue with them and their representatives to come to the best scenario for the club and the player.
“Rightly so, elite clubs all over Europe will have Ruben on their radar, but we have an excellent relationship with him and will do things properly, and collaboratively, when the time is right.
“Ruben is having a fantastic season and everybody should take a pat on the back in terms of how well he is playing.”
    Bent on Bale’s Arsenal links
Darren Bent doesn’t believe Wales hero Gareth Bale would be a good signing for Arsenal as he could stifle Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli’s growth.
Bent said on talkSPORT: “No, I don’t think so.
“It’s not that he is not good enough, but he has got Saka in front of him, Martinelli, these guys are getting better and better.
“You don’t want to stunt their development.”
    Merson praises Odegaard
Paul Merson claims Martin Odegaard is Arsenal’s best player at the moment despite initially being sceptical about the midfielder’s arrival at The Emirates.
Merson said to the Daily Star: “Martin Odegaard has proved me wrong and is becoming the leader Arsenal need to pass their toughest test yet,’ Merson told the Daily Star.
“He is the main man there now and the first name on the teamsheet for me. He has really improved and is doing the business.
‘I think the players respect him because they can see he’s a real player. I didn’t see it at first, I have to admit.
“It looked like he didn’t really want to leave Real Madrid, and I didn’t think he pulled up any trees on his loan spell at Arsenal.
“He could have sulked and lost his confidence when Madrid didn’t want him any more, but he’s playing better than ever now. He’s Arsenal’s go-to man and he makes them tick.”
    Merson on Sancho for England
Arsenal legend Paul Merson reckons Gareth Southgate should’ve picked Jadon Sancho instead of Raheem Sterling for the England squad.
Merson said in his Daily Star column: “Gareth Southgate should have picked Jadon Sancho instead of Raheem Sterling in his England squad.
“Surely you’re better off having Sancho in the squad than Sterling? We know what Sterling can do.
“We know he’s going to the World Cup. Sterling always performs for England. Leave him out, he’s got big games coming up for Manchester City. And put Sancho in.”
    Ben White’s England appreciation
Arsenal star Ben White has shared his pride after getting another call-up for England.
He said: “Getting called up again shows that what I’ve done this season is really paying off.
“The last time I got called up I was straight into a tournament, so to come back in and be part of it again is a really nice feeling.”
    Ousmane Dembele to Arsenal?
Arsenal have reportedly approached wantaway Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele.
Dembele’s contract with Barca is up in the summer and according to Spanish outlet El Chiringuito TV, the Gunners want to bring him to The Emirates.
Talks between the parties have already begun as the report states Dembele’s agent Moussa Sissoko has met with the North London side.
    Southgate’s doesn’t understand Saka absence
Gareth Southgate is perplexed as to why Bukayo Saka can’t play for England due to catching Covid.
He said: “I’m lost on the rules really.
    Smith Rowe issue ‘not serious’
Gareth Southgate has revealed that the problem that kept Emile Smith Rowe out of England training this morning is not a major one, but he’s unlikely to feature against Switzerland at Wembley tomorrow.
Discussing fitness issues within the squad at this afternoon’s press conference, the Three Lions boss said: “Emile [Smith Rowe] did not train today so he is unlikely to be involved tomorrow. It’s nothing too serious, but we’ll check on him late to see if he can take part.”
Southgate had better news regarding another forward, but was left rueing another increase in Covid-19 cases.
“Raheem [Sterling] is absolutely fine. However, it was a shame to lose Bukayom [Saka], but that we’re back in those moments with Covid where there’s been a spike in the country.”
Arteta future in doubt amid Tite link
Mikel Arteta’s long-term future as Arsenal manager is in question after it emerged that talks had taken place between the Premier League club and Brazil coach Tite.
According to sensational reports in South America, Gunners sporting director Edu has identified his compatriot as the man he wants to take the Londoners forward.
Tite is contracted to the Brazil national team until the completion of this year’s World Cup, but could be installed at the Emirates for the beginning of the 2023-24 season.
Arteta has revitalised a young and exciting Arsenal side in recent months, but is only contracted to the club until the summer of 2023.

    Smith-Rowe misses England training
Emile Smith Rowe became the latest Arsenal player to sit out England training when he was absent from this morning’s practice.
The Gunners midfielder also missed Wednesday’s session although there has not yet been an official reason given for today’s non-appearance.
The news comes a day after his club teammate and good friend, Bukayo Saka, withdrew from England duty, having testing positive for Covid-19.
Last week, Aaron Ramsdale was forced to pull out of the squad with a muscle injury.
Gunners fans will be hoping the Arsenal curse doesn’t strike their one remaining England representative, Ben White.
    Charming Gunners pursue Benfica’s Nunez
ArsenaL have reportedly begun a ‘charm offensive’ in their bid to sign Benfica striker Darwin Nunez.
Nunez, 22, was believed to be on Arsenal’s radar in January with the club making initial contact with the player’s agent.
The Gunners are increasing their contact with Benfica and are beginning to talk up a move to North London, according to Record.
And Arsenal are reportedly a few steps ahead of Newcastle and West Ham in the race to sign Nunez.
Both clubs were said to be interested in the Uruguayan in January but were put off by his asking price.
At one point Toon were prepared to pay £50million for the forward but given interest in Nunez is only increasing his asking price is now believed to be in the region of £67m.
    Another north London derby postponed
Tomorrow’s clash between Arsenal and Tottenham in the Women’s Super League has been postponed due to an outbreak of Covid-19 in the Spurs squad.
The announcement follows in the footsteps of the men’s teams, who had their Premier League clash in January called off, and has yet to be arranged.
On that occasion, it was the Gunners that forced the cancellation with their squad depleted due to coronavirus, injuries, suspensions and the African Cup of Nations.
Spurs figureheads were critical of Arsenal on that occasion, but are likely to be more understanding today.
    Arsenal’s Tierney opens Scotland account
Kieran Tierney scored his first international goal for Scotland in last night’s 1-1 draw with Poland – and then joked afterwards that it only puts him on an equal balance for his country.
The Arsenal defender headed home John McGinn’s free-kick at Hampden to give Steve Clark’s men a first half lead in Thursday’s friendly.
And after the game, Tierney laughed: “It’s good to get my first goal. That’s one goal and one own-goal for Scotland so that’s me even.
“I was thinking ‘is this onside or offside?’ but that’s just the shock. When do I score a header?”

    Proud Martinelli makes Brazil bow
Gabriel Martinelli’s fine season with Arsenal was last night rewarded with a first senior cap for Brazil.
The 20-year-old winger was brought on by head coach Tite in the 76th minute of Selecao’s 4-0 World Cup qualifying win over Chile.
The Gunners forward was introduced into the game alongside fellow Premier League star Richarlison, and joined the likes of Neymar and Thiago Silva on the pitch.
Brazil have already qualified for Qatar 2022 as one of CONMEBOL’s top four teams.
    In demand Diaby considering options
Bayer Leverkusen’s hottest property Moussa Diaby is already thinking about his future move – and it could depend on who clinches fourth spot in the Premier League.
The 22-year-old winger, wanted by both Arsenal and Manchester United, has revealed his desire to play in the Champions League.
In a conversation with Le Parisien (via Football.London), the French international admitted: “Obviously, I’m thinking about [my future], but not too much yet. I remain focused on the end of the season. For the moment it is my only concern.
“I want to play all the high level matches. The objective is to qualify with Bayer for the Champions League. I love participating in games with pressure.”
Diaby has scored 16 goals and provided nine assists in 35 games for Leverkusen this season, and is expected to cost in the region of £50m.

Man Utd ‘consider’ Tammy Abraham swoop, PSG join Pedro Neto race, Bruno Fernandes new contract EXCLUSIVE

MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly ‘considering’ a move to bring Tammy Abraham back to the Premier League this summer. The former Blues striker has flourished since signing for Roma scoring 23 goals in 40 appearances under Jose Mourinho.
Bruno Fernandes has been handed a new Manchester United contract worth £240,000 a week, SunSport can exclusively reveal.
The United midfielder, 27, has been convinced to sign till 2027 at United after discussions with Old Trafford chiefs over the future of the club.
This is despite him not knowing the identity of the club’s next manager yet.
Also, Paris Saint-Germain have joined the race with United to sign Wolves attacker Pedro Neto according to rumours.

Follow ALL of the latest news, updates and transfer gossip from Old Trafford right here…
Red Devils vs PSG for Neto
Manchester United have competition from Paris Saint-Germain in the fight for Pedro Neto this summer, according to reports.
The Red Devils are eyeing a £50million-plus summer move for the 22-year-old Wolves star.
However, The Daily Mail report that PSG are “monitoring his progress” for the rest of the campaign.
The midfielder recently signed a contract extension until 2027 so Wolves can push up the transfer price for wannabe suitors.
Man Utd could have signed Neto for next to nothing back in 2016 when he came to Carrington on trial from Portuguese side Braga.
He made his first start for Wolves in 330 days against Crystal Palace earlier this month.

    R-on fire
Cristiano Ronaldo has been crowned Manchester United player of the month for the third time this season.
The 37-year-old returned to Old Trafford last summer and made an instant impact upon his arrival.
He has netted 18 times in 32 games so far this season, making him the club’s top goalscorer.

Ronaldo had the perfect start to the season, winning the player of the month award for both September and October.
Now, he has added a third award to the collection.
The Red Devils only recorded one win during the month of March, but it was a crucial result.
Ronaldo scored a hat-trick to help his side to a 3-2 win against fellow top four competitors Tottenham.
    Cont-down is on
Rangers legend Ally McCoist believes that Antonio Conte should become the next Manchester United manager.
Conte has been linked with the role since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer left Old Trafford in November.
The Italian has since joined Tottenham, but he is still on the Red Devils’ list of potential candidates.
And McCoist believes that he would be the perfect man for the job.

When speaking to FourFourTwo, he said: “I think United missed the boat by not appointing Conte at the end of last year, and in normal circumstances you would think that ship had sailed, however, nothing surprises you in football.
“You hear the rumours that Mauricio Pochettino wants to go back to Spurs, and doesn’t fancy United, so I wouldn’t rule out Conte going to United.
“The one thing Conte wants is financial backing, and I am not sure he is happy with what he is getting at Spurs.
“He has done a few strange interviews, and made a few comments that would indicate that is the case.
“United have great players, but they are not a great team, and I think Conte could help mould them into that. It is a time for real change.”
    Hear me Ror
Three Premier League big hitters – including Manchester United – are chasing 40-goal Rangers wonderkid Rory Wilson, according to reports.
Liverpool and City are locked in a battle with United to sign the Scottish sensation.
According to the Daily Star, Wilson has turned down Rangers’ approach with a professional contract and looks to follow the same path as Chelsea’s Billy Gilmour and turn pro in England.
    Credit: Kenny Ramsay
Like Wilson, Gilmour spent many years in Rangers’ academy, but he made a switch to England in 2017 – something the striker is yet to do.
The 16-year-old goal scorer is regarded as one of Scotland’s hottest prospects and both United and City watched him bag a brace for the international’s U17s against the Czech Republic this week.
Wilson’s 40-goal heroics this season has also drawn interest from Newcastle and Leeds.
And a move to any Premier League outfit could only come at the cost of a £300,000 compensation fee.
Man Utd and Arsenal ‘consider Tammy Abraham transfer swoop’
Manchester United and Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Tammy Abraham in the summer.

Man Utd joined by PSG in Pedro Neto transfer race

United look set to miss out on Milenkovic
Manchester United look set to miss out on Nikola Milenkovic – because West Ham have a “gentleman’s agreement” to sign him, according to reports.
The Fiorentina centre-back, 24, has been at the centre of a transfer tug of war.
A whole host of Premier League sides have been linked with the defender in recent seasons.

Tottenham, Newcastle, Wolves and Arsenal were among them, as well as United and West Ham.
However, Milenkovic signed a contract extension last summer, tying him down until 2023.
Should United miss out on Milenkovic who looks bound for the London Stadium, they may look elsewhere in their pursuit of defensive reinforcements.
Max Kilman, Jules Kounde, Manuel Akanji and soon-to-be-free-agent Antonio Rudiger are all targets.
    Good morning Red Devils fans
Bruno Fernandes is close to agreeing a new five-year deal at Manchester United, reports Neil Custis.
The Portuguese star will more than double his salary to £240,000 per week after the club hierarchy convinced him of their plans for the future that include bringing in Erik ten Hag as new boss.
Meanwhile, the Glazer family’s unwillingness to pay substantial compensation to land Mauricio Pochettino is another reason why Ten Hag is now the preferred candidate to take over at Old Trafford.
In an intriguing stand off, Paris Saint-Germain officials are considering sacking Pochettino, but don’t want to hand him to United for nothing.
ESPN report that PSG would rather force the Red Devils into paying a sizeable fee for the Argentine’s services – which United officials are refusing to do.
The compensation package necessary to bring Ten Hag to the Premier League is understood to be both less costly and less complicated.
But United will need to move quickly to secure the Dutchman as their new manager – because he is reportedly attracting interest from other clubs.
According to The Mail, two other European clubs have also spoken to the 52-year-old.
Elsewhere, Anthony Elanga has praised Man United mentor Cristiano Ronaldo.
He said: “It’s really good [to have Ronaldo as a mentor] because I go to training quite early and see him there.
“If we have had a game the day before, we’ll speak about the game or training. He’s a really good person to have around the building, not just because of what he does on the pitch, but what he does off the pitch as well.
“If we (younger players) need any help we can speak to him, so he’s a really good person to be around.”
And finally, Paul Pogba has admitted that being called up for international duty with France is a welcome break away from Man United.
He told Telefoot: “Absolutely. You have to speak the truth.
“Yes, it’s true that there have been moments, especially in Manchester, when there was a need for this break to regain this energy, this confidence.”
    Ronaldo issues warning
Cristiano Ronaldo has warned Portugal to respect North Macedonia in their World Cup play-off final.
Ronaldo and Co will meet Italy’s conquerors in the World Cup play-off final in Porto on Tuesday.
Manchester United star Ronaldo, 37, tweeted: “The first step has been taken towards our great objective, towards the 2022 World Cup.
“Nothing is won, nothing is achieved.
“We have to continue to work in a serious and focused way, respecting the opponent but always believing in our abilities. Power Portugal! Go to Qatar!”
    Ten Hag’s a wanted man
A Dutch journalist claims that Erik Ten Hag is wanted by two other clubs aside from Man United.
Dutch football expert Marcel van der Kraan told Sky Sports:“There are three major opportunities for Erik ten Hag. Manchester United is only one of them.
“I don’t want to dampen the excitement in England but maybe United have not done all the work yet.”
    Sancho thanks fans
Jadon Sancho has thanked fans for wishing him a happy birthday.
He said on Twitter: “Thank you everyone for your birthday wishes, I appreciate everyone sending love.
“It’s hard for me to respond to everyone but it doesn’t go unnoticed.”
Thank you everyone for your birthday wishes, I appreciate everyone sending love. It’s hard for me to respond to everyone but it doesn’t go unnoticed. ❤️🙏🏼— Jadon Sancho (@Sanchooo10) March 25, 2022

    David James on Kalvin Philips
Ex-England goalkeeper David James has urged Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips to snub other clubs in favour of a move to Aston Villa
He said to GG recon: “Kalvin could become a member of Stevie’s group at Villa and then if he does well then he can go with Stevie to the next club he moves onto.
“Once Stevie likes a player then he sticks with them, which is something you can sense from his relationships.
“I can see Stevie bringing success to Villa and that would be one exciting bus for Kalvin Phillips to be on.”
Man United need to flog troublemakers
Man United will need to flog troublemakers Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Pogba and Harry Maguire if Erik Ten Hag as the Ajax boss isn’t Zinedine Zidane,
That’s the view of ex-Holland international Rene van der Gijp has given the Red Devils an astonishing tip.
Van der Gijp told Vendaag Inside: “He is not a Zidane, for example, would be.
“He just needs to get rid of those troublemakers. Ronaldo, Pogba, Maguire. Ronaldo would get along fine with Zidane.
“They are on the same level.”
    McCoist on Man United job
Ally McCoist reckons Man United messed up by not recruiting Antonio Conte as new boss when they sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Conte subsequently joined Tottenham but McCoist thinks United can prise the Italian away from White Hart Lane if they fail to bring in Mauricio Pochettino whose reportedly keen on a return to Spurs.
McCoist told FourFourTwo: “I think United missed the boat by not appointing Conte at the end of last year, and in normal circumstances you would think that ship had sailed, however, nothing surprises you in football.
“You hear the rumours that Mauricio Pochettino wants to go back to Spurs, and doesn’t fancy United, so I wouldn’t rule out Conte going to United.”
    Pogba on France duty
Paul Pogba has admitted that being called up for international duty with France is a welcome break away from Man United.
He told Telefoot: “Absolutely. You have to speak the truth.
“Yes, it’s true that there have been moments, especially in Manchester, when there was a need for this break to regain this energy, this confidence.”
    Merson on Sancho for England
Paul Merson reckons Gareth Southgate should’ve picked Jadon Sancho instead of Raheem Sterling for the England squad.
    Rivaldo backs Ten Hag appointment
Brazilian legend Rivaldo has backed Erik Ten Hag to become Man United’s new boss.
He said to Betfair: “According to reports this week, Manchester United have spoken to Erik ten Hag about becoming their next manager and he is now the odds-on favourite in the betting.
“Looking at what the Dutchman has been doing with Ajax, I’m sure he could be a great option to become United’s next manager. He is an excellent coach.”
    Elanga on Fernandes
Anthony Elanga has revealed that Bruno Fernandes helps to keep him calm and relaxed on the pitch.
He said to United’s media: “That’s why I feel comfortable [on the pitch] because I get the likes of Bruno [Fernandes] speaking to me every day.
“And on the pitch as well, which helps calm me down and stay relaxed when I have the ball.”
    Elanga praises Ronaldo
Anthony Elanga has praised Man United mentor Cristiano Ronaldo.
“It’s really good [to have Ronaldo as a mentor] because I go to training quite early and see him there.
“If we have had a game the day before, we’ll speak about the game or training. He’s a really good person to have around the building, not just because of what he does on the pitch, but what he does off the pitch as well.
“If we (younger players) need any help we can speak to him, so he’s a really good person to be around.”
    Lindelof congratulates Elanga on achievement
Victor Lindelof played his part in helping Sweden to a World Cup play-off semi-final win, and then afterwards congratulated his Manchester United teammate Anthony Elanga on making his international debut.
Lindelof played all 120 minutes as the Swedes defeated Czech Republic 1-0 after extra-time, a tie decided by Robin Quaison’s winner.
Nineteen-year-old Elanga came on for this Sweden bow with five minutes of extra-time remaining, and afterwards was pictured on social media celebrating with Lindelof.
And the centre-back went a step further, adding the image to his Instagram story and paying tribute to the teenager with the words: ‘Congratulations on the debut brother. So happy for you.’

United must move quickly for Erik
Manchester United will need to move quickly to secure Erik ten Hag as their new manager – because he is reportedly attracting interest from other clubs.
Earlier this week, SunSport exclusively revealed that the Ajax head coach was at the top of the pile to be offered the position at Old Trafford, and it has since been confirmed that he has interviewed for the role.
But according to The Mail, Man Utd will need to be swift in their dealings with Ten Hag as two other European clubs have also spoken to the 52-year-old.
The other two unnamed sides are said to be Champions League regulars – with one having already tabled an offer to the Dutchman.
There are also reports in Holland that Ten Hag could stay at Ajax after he signed a new deal only last year following an unsuccessful interview with Tottenham.
Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino is the other candidate at the forefront of United’s consideration.

    Parker: Maguire must perform well
Former Manchester United and England defender Paul Parker believes it is essential that Harry Maguire puts in a good performance when representing his country this weekend.
International friendlies are often a chance to experiment with tactics and selection, but Parker feels the spotlight will be firmly on the Red Devils captain.
Maguire has endured a difficult domestic season with many critics calling for him to be dropped from the United first team.
In an interview with OddsNinja, Parker said: “For certain players, these games are important.
“They’ve got to treat them as games to get themselves back into the system again, and Harry Maguire needs a good performance for his country because he’s going to be scrutinised by every single football supporter – and maybe even non-football supporters because even they’re gonna want an opinion about his performance for the country.
“It is really important, and Harry Maguire cannot afford to take his foot off the gas. He has to step forward and show it there.”
    Poch waiting on United call
Mauricio Pochettino is ‘waiting to hear back’ from John Murtough after holding initial talks with Manchester United’s director of football several weeks ago.
According to reports in The Express, the PSG boss spoke to Murtough about the upcoming position, but is yet to receive confirmation of an official interview for the role.
The Argentine coach was a long time favourite for the job, but has now slipped behind Ajax manager Erik ten Hag in the betting.
And Ten Hag now appears in pole position after he was said to impress United officials at his interview earlier this week.
Whether Murtogh actually gets round to contacting Pochettino remains to be seen.
United and PSG in Poch stand-off
The Glazer family’s unwillingness to pay substantial compensation to land Mauricio Pochettino is another reason why Erik ten Hag is now the preferred candidate to take over at Old Trafford.

Had he not got that block in, that looked to be heading in.
    Egypt 1-0 Senegal
    67. Senegal are still trying to press the hosts.
Egypt seem happy to control possession.
The Pharaohs seems content with their one-goal lead.
Egypt 1-0 Senegal – Mane chance!
    64. The ball is crossed to the back post where Mane wins the header.
His header is on its way to goal before El-Shenawy dives and gets a hand to the ball.
The defender behind him was ready to clear if the keeper could not get to it.

    Egypt 1-0 Senegal
    62. Bamba Dieng comes on for Senegal.
    Diedhiou makes way for him.
Play stops as a clash of heads requires treatment for both.
    Egypt 1-0 Senegal
    60. The Pharaohs are quite happy to pass the ball around and frustrate their opponents.
Senegal seem to be treating this like a one-off game.
They do not want to leave here with a defeat.
    Egypt 1-0 Senegal
    58. Senegal are looking a much better team in this second half.
There seems to be more purpose to their attacking.
That being said, Egypt are still keeping them out.
    Egypt 1-0 Senegal
    56. Brilliant play by Sadio Mane.
Out on the touchline with two players facing him, the Liverpool winger scoops the ball in the middle of the pair and skips passed them.
As he gets into the Egypt box he looks to find Sarr on the back post.
    The ball is headed away.
    Egypt 1-0 Senegal
    54. Senegal seem to be camped inside the Egypt half currently.
Sarr’s cross is partially blocked and runs through to the keeper.
As Egypt counter Trezeguet is fouled out wide.

    Egypt 1-0 Senegal
    52. As the corner is swung into the box El-Shenawy comes for the cross and punches clear.
He has done that a lot in this game and relieved a lot of pressure on his team.
    All Senegal at the moment.
    Egypt 1-0 Senegal
    50. The Lions of Teranga may rue some of these missed chances.
That was a difficult one for Mane as he was literally under the crossbar as he tried to turn and shoot.
Mane goes running into the box but why he looks to pass instead of pulling the trigger only the player will know.
    Egypt 1-0 Senegal
    48. Two half chances there for Senegal.
Firstly as the ball is hooked into the box a returning Mane swivels on the ball but cannot get a good connection on it so close to goal.
Then as the ball is returned into the box from out wide, the header is inches away from the post.
The replay shows it seems the Egypt defender nearly put it into his own net there.
    Egypt 1-0 Senegal
    46. Both sides look intent on attacking in the early stages of the second half.
For Senegal they need to work harder in the final third.
As obvious as it sounds they need to get Mane on the ball more.

    Ben Sulayem reacts
FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem also said the following:
“I would say exactly what Stefano said. We had meetings with high-level security, then we had meetings with the team principals, with the drivers, to assure them.
“Who are they targeting? They are targeting the infrastructure, not the civilians, and, of course, not the track.
“We’ve checked the facts from them and we’ve got assurances from the highest level that this is a secure place, the whole thing will be secure, and let’s go on racing.
“For sure, all the families are here, we are all looking forward, but with an assurance that it is safe”
    Stefano Domenicali statement
Formula One CEO Stefano Domenicali issued the following statement after the earlier terror attack:
“We’ve had a meeting with the drivers and team principals together with the maximum Saudi authorities, with Prince Abdulaziz, the minister of sport, Prince Khalid, and, of course, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, the president of the FIA, and the governor of Jeddah.
“We have received total assurance that the country’s safety is first. No matter the situation, safety has to be guaranteed. They are here with their families, actually here at the track, so they have in place the systems to protect this area, the city and the places where we are going.
“So we feel confident to trust the local authorities in that respect and, therefore, we will go ahead with the event”
    More on attack
A spokesman claiming to represent the Yemeni Armed Forces took responsibility for the attack before the practice session, along with other incidents in Saudi Arabia.
He claimed on Twitter the attacks were carried out “With batches of ballistic and winged missiles and the unmanned air force.

    Verstappen lashes out
Max Verstappen has slammed Netflix show Drive to Survive for making Lando Norris look “a bit of a d***”.
Verstappen said: “What I didn’t like, and it’s not even about me, it was about Lando and Daniel [Ricciardo], which I think are two great guys.
“They’re really nice, first of all. And it made it look like Lando was a bit of a d***, which he isn’t at all.
“And, again, I know Lando and I think many people know Lando as a funny guy, great guy – he has a great character.
“And actually when you look at that episode, you really think ‘who is this guy, what the hell is going on?’
“When you are new to the sport and you’ve never seen a racing car or Formula One car in general, they don’t like him. And why should that be?
“Because he is a great guy and you just immediately get the wrong picture of a person. And that’s exactly what I think happened to me in the beginning.
“I’m someone [that] when you ruin it from the start, you don’t fix it. That’s it, you ruined it. So, that’s my stance and that’s how I’ll go forward”

    More from Hamilton
“It’s so different [here compared to Bahrain]… This track is super-fast, and it’s got a different surface that will behave differently with the tyres.
“A huge amount of work has gone on in the past three days. We’re aware of the problems we have, but in terms of what’s causing it, we’re just working through it, trying to figure that out and how we can rectify it without losing performance – and ultimately gain performance.
“But three days is such a short time between races, so it’s not a huge difference here this weekend. But hopefully we’ll have some things to try.
“And from a driver’s perspective, that’s exciting when you… get into the car, just trying something new and hoping it unlocks a bit of performance. But the others are still very strong”
    Lewis Hamilton statement
Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton has vowed ahead to try and get in the championship battle “as soon as possible”.
Hamilton said: “I don’t currently feel too stressed. But I want to get in the fight as soon as possible.
“The last race was an amazing feeling for us, given where we thought we were going to be, to come out with the result that we did.
“But we can’t rely every weekend on that to happen, so we need to move fast, and move forward as fast as we can”

ARSENAL are ready to make a shock move to replace Mikel Arteta with Tite after the World Cup, according to reports in the South American nation.Technical director Edu is said to be leading the talks and is well acquainted with the Brazil boss, having previously played for Corinthians, where Tite was manager.
Erling Haaland has reportedly turned to Martin Odegaard for advice as he chooses which club to join in the summer.
The striker plays with the Arsenal star in the Norway national team and it appears he has tapped into his expertise on the Premier League and La Liga.
As well as playing for Arsenal, Odegaard spent six years in Spain with Real Madrid and Real Sociedad.
And SunSport can exclusively reveal that Arsenal are ready to offer Bukayo Saka a new deal which will quadruple his wages.

    Good morning Arsenal fans
Arsenal are reportedly leading the race to sign Benfica ace Darwin Nunez ahead of Premier League rivals West Ham and Newcastle.
The Prem trio are all keen on recruiting Nunez this summer in a bid to bolster their respective attacks.
But according to Record, the Gunners are in pole position to snag the striker as they are the club out of the interested parties who will most likely be able to offer him Champions League football.
Meanwhile, Ex-Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has been omitted from Fenerbahce’s first-team photo.
The Turkish titans declared Ozil’s exclusion on social media earlier today.
However, no explanation was given for the midfield maverick’s omission.
Elsewhere, David Seaman has praised Arsenal starlet Bukayo Saka for raising his game and always producing 8/10 performances.
Seaman said: “What I love about Saka is that when he gets the ball, he wants to go forward, he wants to turn and get at the defenders.
“He did that in the summer with England and he’s carried it on and gone to another level. He’s nearly always an 8/10 every game.”
And finally, Buyako Saka has revealed that he’s gutted about having to leave England’s squad due to illness.
He wrote on Twitter: “I am gutted to withdraw from the England camp, but I have tested positive for Covid-19 and I will be isolating until I am negative.
“I’ll be supporting the boys from home this weekend and I can’t wait to be being back doing what I love soon.”
    Ben White’s tough rise
Ben White was toughened up for the Premier League with pre-match curries and dressing-room punch-ups.
White smiled when asked about life in Wales with Newport he explained: “I don’t think I ever thought about playing for England back then.
“You’re having a curry for your pre-match meal.
“Everything was totally different from what I knew in the academy.
“In my first game there was a punch-up at half-time — between our own players in our own dressing room.
“It was a bit scary to be fair. I didn’t want to make any mistakes, that’s for sure.”
    Lloris praises Saliba
Tottenham keeper Hugo Lloris has praised Arsenal star and fellow French team-mate William Saliba.
Lloris said: “What he’s doing at a club like Marseille at 21 years of age, that’s impressive. He’s got this calm strength about him.
“We feel him ready and serene. He’s got the assets to go up another level in his career.
“If the chance presents itself, there’s nothing better for him to play his first game for France at the Vélodrome.”
    Saka’s gutted about England exit
Buyako Saka has revealed that he’s gutted about having to leave England’s squad due to illness.
He wrote on Twitter: “I am gutted to withdraw from the England camp, but I have tested positive for Covid-19 and I will be isolating until I am negative.
“I’ll be supporting the boys from home this weekend and I can’t wait to be being back doing what I love soon.”
    Winterburn on Tammy Abraham
Arsenal legend Nigel Winterburn reckons Tammy Abraham would’ve been a perfect signing for Arsenal before he left Chelsea to join Roma.
Speaking to FreeSuperTips, Winterburn said: ‘Back in the summer when he was moving, there was a link with Arsenal, I don’t know how strong, but he fits into the bill of what Arsenal were trying to do.’
‘A young player with huge potential, so my opinion doesn’t change that he would have been a great option for Arsenal.
    Saka leaves England squad
Arsenal star Bukayo Saka has been ruled out for England after testing positive for COVID-19.
Saka has left the Three Lions’ camp, where he had been isolating since Wednesday, and is now back home.
Manager Gareth Southgate is not expected to call up any replacements for the upcoming international friendlies against Switzerland and Ivory Coast.
The FA released the following statement: “Bukayo Saka has left the England camp having tested positive for COVID-19.
“The Arsenal player had been isolating from the rest of the squad at St. George’s Park since Wednesday and has now returned home.
“No further replacements are planned with a squad of 24 in place for the forthcoming fixtures against Switzerland, An Alzheimer’s Society International, on Saturday (26 March, 5.30pm kick-off) and Côte d’Ivoire on Tuesday (29 March, 7.45pm kick-off) at Wembley Stadium connected by EE.”
    Seaman praises Saka
David Seaman has praised Arsenal starlet Bukayo Saka for raising his game and always producing 8/10 performances.
Seaman said: “What I love about Saka is that when he gets the ball, he wants to go forward, he wants to turn and get at the defenders.
“He did that in the summer with England and he’s carried it on and gone to another level. He’s nearly always an 8/10 every game.”
    Bellerin’s opinion on Ukraine war
Former Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin has slammed global leaders for allegedly prioritising Ukraine’s war with Russia above other global conflicts.
Bellerin said to Marca: “I find it pretty grim seeing how we’ve been so interested in this war, but there were others that we didn’t bother with.
“I don’t know if it’s because it could affect us more economically or in terms of refugees, but the war in Palestine has been silenced and nobody has talked about it.
“It happens in Palestine, Yemen, Iraq… now we’re deciding whether Russia will play in the World Cup or not. In the end these are things that other countries have been doing for many years.
“It is racist to have turned a blind eye to other conflicts and now to have this position.
“It also reflects a lack of empathy for the number of lives lost in many conflicts and we are prioritising those that are near to us.”

This is despite him not knowing the identity of the club’s next manager yet.
But Erik Ten Hag has come through his Man Utd interview “with flying colours”, according to reports.
The Ajax boss is the favourite to take over at Old Trafford just ahead of Mauricio Pochettino.
Ten Hag is also said to enjoy the support of interim manager Ralf Rangnick.
On the transfer front, Man Utd are said to lead the race for Declan Rice. But West Ham reportedly want them to stump up a whopping £150m.
Part of that fee could be covered by the removal of Paul Pogba’s wages from the books.

    United’s Elanga makes Sweden debut
Anthony Elanga’s dream season took another turn last night as the teenager made his international debut.
The 19-year-old came on for the last five minutes of extra-time in Sweden’s World Cup play-off semi-final win over the Czech Republic.
The United starlet replaced Emil Forsberg at a crucial point in proceedings, but Janne Andersson’s men held on to their 1-0 lead and will now face Poland in Tuesday’s final.
The late cameo ensures Elanga’s international allegiance for Sweden. The forward was also eligible for England and Cameroon.

    Fernandes to pen new deal
Bruno Fernandes is close to agreeing a new five-year deal at Manchester United, reports Neil Custis.
The Portuguese star will more than double his salary to £240,000-per-week after the club hierarchy convinced him of their plans for the future.
Fernandes, 27, was uncertain about staying at the club during this season following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Their exit from the Champions League means United are heading for a fifth successive season without a trophy under the interim management of Ralf Rangnick.
But United have moved to get Ajax coach Eric Ten Hag and start a rebuild towards challenging for the title again, convincing Fernandes to commit himself to the club.

    Good morning Man Utd fans
Ex-liverpool star David James reckons Man United striker Marcus Rashford would do well at Liverpool.
He told GGRecon: “I just think he’s got all the attributes to be a false-nine, through-the-middle player, rather than being stuck out wide.
“I think he could be a valuable asset to Liverpool.”
Meanwhile, Ally McCoist is baffled as to why Man United aren’t pursuing Zinedine Zidane to become their new manager.
He said on talkSPORT: “The one name I haven’t heard anything from is Zidane.”
“Clearly, the one thing he can do and do on a regular basis is win the Champions League. He’s proved that. He did it three times with Real Madrid.
“He can handle big players and big pressure and a big situation at a massive club so I’m not sure why he isn’t in the running at all. Unless he’s ruled himself out?”
Elsewhere, Erik ten Hag will bring a former Manchester United star with him to Old Trafford if he lands the manager’s job.
The Daily Mail believe that the Ajax boss wants a Dutch coach with ‘strong connections to the club’ to join him at United.
The revelation has excited United fans, who are now dreaming of a return to club for either Robin van Persie, Jaap Stam or Ruud van Nistelrooy.
All three candidates went into coaching following their playing careers with Van Persie currently assistant to Arne Slot at Feyenoord.
Van Nistelrooy, meanwhile, has been in charge of PSV Eindhoven’s reserve team, and has recently been linked with the top job at the Philips Stadion.
Finally, Rio Ferdinand has shut down talks of him joining the Manchester United backroom staff by labelling the reports “mad lies”.
Speaking on his YouTube channel FIVE, he said: “I’ve been online and I’m meant to be – I’ve put myself forward – for the assistant manager’s job at Man Utd. I don’t know who gets this mad news.
“When have you pressed the send button and thought that you’re not going to get me to come back and go ‘actually, no I ain’t, what are you chatting about?’
“So whoever has told you that you need to go back to your source and say ‘listen man’.
“But if I did go in there – woo – the whip would be getting cracked! Crack that whip.
“But no, no I’m not, man. I’m not going in there.”
    Rudiger’s transfer plans revealed
Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger would only consider a move to Manchester United if he spoke to the new permanent manager first, reports suggest.
According to Bild’s Christian Falk, the centre-back won’t make any decisions regarding his future before the Champions League quarter-final matches against Real Madrid.
Falk tweeted: “[Rudiger] will make no decision before the Matches against ⁦[Real Madrid] about his future.
“He hopes on the one hand that the difficult situation at ⁦[Chelsea]⁩ will be cleared up. On the other hand: Real is also still interested.”
He added: “A decision about a future of [Rudiger] at [United] is difficult. Rudiger would like to Talk with the new Coach before…”
    Akanji rejects Dortmund extension
Man United target Manuel Akanji has rejected a contract extension offer from Borussia Dortmund.
Dortmund’s efforts to convince him to sign a new contract have failed to succeed due to his wage demands.
That’s according to Bild who claim Akanji and his representatives were after more cash from Dortmund.
    Ibrahimovic on Elanga
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has revealed that he’s proud that Man United ace Anthony Elanga is playing for Sweden.
Ibrahimovic said ahead of Sweden’s play-off tie against Czech Republic: “He is a great talent – we are proud and happy that he comes from Sweden.
“He has all the future ahead of him, and if he continues just as he has done, it looks positive.”
Ten Hag may stay at Ajax
Erik Ten Hag could remain with Ajax despite interest from Man United.
That’s according to Dutch publication Voetbal’s reporter, Freek Jansen.
He said on the Pak Schaal Podcast: “United have wanted him for a long time, they have been interested for a long time.
“That’s where conversations take place. But he’s not into that. That is mainly the management.
“He is working on this season and how he can turn it around again so that Ajax will again book convincing victories.”

Boehly and Broughton the preferred bidders
It now seems apparent that Raine Group’s favoured candidates for Chelsea ownership are the bids from consortiums led by Todd Boehly and Sir Martin Broughton.
Several news sources are reporting that the two parties are the names at the head of the merchant bank’s shortlist.
The Guardian’s football correspondent Jacob Steinberg has tweeted that Boehly and Broughton are the preferred bidders, but there has been ‘no clarity’ on the offers from Nick Candy and the Ricketts family.
The bid from Saudi Media Group was said to have been ruled out last night.
Hop, skip and out for Italy’s Jorginho
Chelsea’s Jorginho says he will be ‘haunted for life’ by the penalty misses that subsequently cost Italy a place at the 2022 World Cup.
The midfielder – a so-called spotkick expert – twice missed from 12 yards in crucial group games against Switzerland, condemning the Azzurri to the play-offs.
The 30-year-old broke down in tears after last night’s last-gasp defeat to North Macedonia. In an interview with RAI Sport (via Football Italia), Jorginho blubbed: “It hurts when I think about it because I do still think about it and it will haunt me for the rest of my life.
“Stepping up there twice and not being able to help your team and your country is something that I will carry with me forever, and it weighs on me.
“People say we need to lift our heads and carry on, but it’s tough.”

    Boehly bid for Blues successful
Todd Boehly’s consortium is among the frontrunners to buy Chelsea Football Club.
The American philanthropist was supposedly informed yesterday that his offer had made it on to the shortlist currently being devised by the Raine Group.
That’s the understanding of The Times, and you expect they would know – their columnist, the Tory peer, Daniel Finkelstein is part of Boehly’s consortium.
The Raine Group are yet to make an official announcement.
    Good morning Chelsea fans
Seb Coe is among the frontrunners as the race to buy Chelsea hots up.
The Olympic track legend and diehard Blues fan is part of a consortium going head-to-head with American Todd Boehly.
Nick Candy is the latest Chelsea bidder who has been ruled out of buying the club.
Blues fan Candy along with Woody Johnson haven’t been shortlisted as potential buyers, according to The Athletic.
The news comes just hours after the Saudi Media Group was also ruled of the bidding.
Meanwhile, Chelsea could take TWO YEARS to recover from being sold by Roman Abramovich.
That’s according to The Mirror who claim the Blues’ rivals reckon the West Londoners will need time to recover from the effects of Abramovich selling up.
This is because the Blues’ peers feel whoever comes in next will need time to adapt and spending will have be reigned in.
The Mirror also state there are doubts over whether a joint ownership model would work as well as a single owner like Abramovich did at the helm.
Elsewhere, Chelsea will lobby the Government to lift its bizarre ban on them selling tickets to home Premier League games.
The club is baffled by the decision to single out home league matches when they now have the go-ahead to flog seats at Champions League games.
Chelsea plans to go back to the Government to seek further guidance and clarification in the hope of a U-turn.
Fans have reacted angrily to the confusing move by the Government.
Finally, Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger wants to speak to the new Manchester United manager before deciding on his future.
BILD journalist Christian Falk believes the German international would be open to a move to Old Trafford, but first wants to hear from the club’s new coach on their vision for the coming seasons.
Rudiger would like to Talk with the new Coach before…”
    Chelsea plan ticket challenge

Chelsea plans to go back to the Government to seek further guidance and clarification in the hope of a U-turn.
Fans have reacted angrily to the confusing move by the Government.
The Chelsea Supporters Trust issued a statement which read: “The Trust will urgently seek clarification from the DCMS & Chelsea FC on why CFC members will not be able to purchase tickets to home Premier League fixtures at Stamford Bridge.
“The sanctions were not brought in to punish supporters – this decision is illogical and unfounded.”
