      United fifth favourites for Raphinha
      Manchester United are fifth favourites to sign Leeds superstar Raphinha, according to the bookies.
      Sky Bet have the Red Devils priced at 7/4 to beat a host of other top European clubs to the signature of the Brazilian if he leaves Elland Road.
      The frontrunners are Spanish giants Barcelona at 7/4, followed by German powerhouses Bayern Munich at 7/1.
      Cascarino calls Rashford ‘not clinical’
      Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino says Marcus Rashford is ‘not clinical’ enough to lead the line for Arsenal.
      United forward Rashford is reportedly a transfer target for Mikel Arteta’s Champions League-chasing Gunners.
      Cascarino told talkSPORT: “I’m not sure if Marcus is a solution for Arsenal because Marcus is not clinical.
      “He doesn’t particularly lead the line well and that’s one of the two traits you need if you’re going to play in an Arteta team.”
      Henderson makes honest loan admission
      Manchester United keeper Dean Henderson admits loan spells at lower league clubs have been vital to his development.
      The 25-year-old star joined United’s Academy as a 14-year-old and has had temporary spells at Stockport, Grimsby, Shrewsbury Town and Sheffield United.
      He told Manchester United’s website: “[There] are the things you learn and move on. It was great for me. It’s why I’m sitting here today.
      “If I didn’t [go out on loan], I’d probably be in League One now, just going out on my first loan. I fought for it and I stand by it, the best decision of my life.”
      Van Gaal issues Ten Hag warning
      Former Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has issued a public warning to Erik ten Hag – advising him against taking the Old Trafford job.
      Ajax boss Ten Hag is the bookies favourite to fill the United hot seat after holding a promising first interview with the club last week.
      However, Van Gaal, now manager of the Dutch national team, has offered his compatriot a word of caution by criticising United’s off-field hierarchy.
      Dutch media outlet AD report Van Gaal as saying: “I think Erik ten Hag is a great coach, he has shown that several times – and a great coach is always good for Manchester United.”
      “Manchester United is a commercial club and those are difficult choices for a coach. It is better to go to a football club.
      “I’m not going to supervise his career and he will call me himself. But he should choose a football club, not a commercial club.”

      No Real deal for Tchouameni – yet
      Premier League pair Chelsea and Manchester United have been handed a boost by the news that – contrary to reports – Aurelien Tchouameni has not agreed to sign for Real Madrid.
      Spanish media had claimed a deal had been done, but Tchouameni’s agent insists that no such move has been confirmed.
      The two English clubs have been monitoring the 22-year-old’s development at Monaco, and both see the player as the ideal midfielder to build their side around for years to come.
      However, Madrid remain very interested despite the press jumping the gun, as do Ligue 1 big-spenders Paris Saint-Germain.
      Tchouameni scored his first international goal for France on Friday, heading home a stoppage time winner against Ivory Coast.

      United planning Shaw and Rashford talks
      Manchester United are planning to enter discussions with Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford over new contracts, according to ESPN’S Rob Dawson.
      The future of the England pair had been considered uncertain with both underperforming this season, and seemingly unhappy with life at Old Trafford.
      Yet the duo ‘are considered part of a key group of core players that United want to keep’ ahead of a significant squad overhaul in the summer.
      The current deals of both players are due to expire in June 2023.

      United capture teen ace Toby
      Manchester United have completed the signing of England youth star Toby Collyer from Brighton.
      The 18-year-old midfielder has penned a three-and-a-half year contract with the Red Devils.
      Collyer impressed Old Trafford chiefs during a recent trial and shone for their U23s in a match against Huddersfield.
      Now he has committed his long-term future to United after they beat a host of Premier League rivals – including Chelsea – to his signature.
      The youngster, who can also play as a centre-back, played 25 matches for Brighton’s Under-18 and Under-23 sides last season.
      Rooney’s strong words for Rashford
      Wayne Rooney has offered some old school advice to Marcus Rashford as he urged the out-of-form star to break his Manchester United record.
      Rooney made a whopping 559 appearances for United during his playing career, eventually overtaking Sir Bobby Charlton’s tally to become the club all-time top scorer with 253 goals.
      Now he has backed his 24-year-old pal Rashford to ‘f***ing get his head out of his a**e’ so that he will go on and surpass him.
      The United ace burst onto the scene in 2016 towards the end of Rooney’s stay at Old Trafford and appeared to have the world at his feet.
      However, this term the England international’s form and confidence appear to have dropped dramatically – and the player has since suggested that he’s frustrated with life at Old Trafford.
      Speaking at a black tie event in Manchester, Rooney said: “I hope that Marcus Rashford f***ing gets his head out of his a**e and goes and breaks that record. He’s a Manchester lad.”
      Midfielders also on United agenda
      Manchester United also want to sign two midfielders the summer – further fuelling the belief that Paul Pogba will depart Old Trafford.
      The Athletic suggest that the Red Devils want to bring in a pair of central players – one offensive and one defensive – in order to strengthen that area of their squad.
      Newcomers would present midfield competition for Fred and Scott McTominay, and will help to cover the gap left by Pogba’s expected exit.
      The French international is out of contract in June, and has shown little interest in penning a new deal with United.
      The Athletic also believe that right wing is another position being targeted by United chiefs, despite last summer’s signing of Jadon Sancho.

      Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has revealed he told Sir Alex Ferguson to ‘f*** off’ when he tried to sign him aged 14.
      The Derby gaffer, now 36, has stated he only had eyes for Everton after being approached by the Red Devils’ legendary manager.
      In an exclusive, Rooney told The Sun: “Sir Alex ­Ferguson tried to sign me when I was 14. He was on the phone to my mum and dad.
      “They said, ‘Alex is on the phone, Manchester United want to sign you’.
      “I said, ‘Tell him to f*** off. I want to play for Everton’.
      “Then as time went on, I knew I had to play for Alex Ferguson. The reason I signed for United was Alex Ferguson.”
      Rooney admits he couldn’t resist the lure of United a second time. He eventually joined them in 2004, and went on to become the club’s all-time top scorer.
      United set sights on Kane
      Manchester United want to bring a stellar striker to the club in the summer – and Harry Kane is at the top of their list.
      The Athletic understand that Old Trafford officials are seriously considering an approach for Kane after holding initial talks with Tottenham back in July.
      The Red Devils will require attacking reinforcements with Edinson Cavani destined to leave, Mason Greenwood unavailable indefinitely following his arrest, and question marks over the futures of Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.
      Spurs chief Daniel Levy refused to play ball with Manchester City last summer, but may now consider moving the 28-year-old forward on for big money with his contract ticking down.
      Kane, who took his goal tally with England to 49 on Saturday, has only two more years to run on his current deal.

      United still keen on Luis
      Luis Enrique is still considered ‘a genuine contender’ for the Manchester United job despite Erik ten Hag emerging as the clear favourite.
      The Express report that the Red Devils remain extremely interested in bringing the Spain coach to Old Trafford, whose role with the national team would not require a hefty compensation package.
      However, the situation is made more complex by the timing of this year’s winter World Cup.
      It is understood that Enrique wants to lead La Roja through the finals in Qatar, meaning he would not be available to start in the Premier League until January.
      United, on the other hand, want their new manager named ahead of this summer, such is the overhaul expected at the club.

      The Mirror report Ten Hag is “stunned” that terms haven’t been proposed to him following his interview last week.
      Ajax chief Ten Hag is not thought to be concerned about money – and had been expecting to be offered a deal soon after talks concluded.
      United are said to have interviewed two other candidates, as well as Ten Hag, for the position.
      Speaking on the United We Stand podcast, Andy Mitten confirmed discussions have been held with three bosses.
      Elsewhere Paul Pogba has admitted he is “sad” that Manchester United have failed to win a trophy for five years.
      He told Telefoot: “I want to win titles, to play for something and this year and the last few years we haven’t won a title. It’s sad.
      “The season is not over yet, but almost because we don’t have any more titles to play for.”
      And interim boss Ralf Rangnick could be without Pogba for Leicester’s visit this Saturday.
      RTL France claim the midfielder missed national team training on Sunday with a “foot contusion.”
      But in a double injury blow Raphael Varane could also be unavailable.
      The centre-back was forced to come off in France’s 2-1 win over Ivory Coast on Friday with a foot injury, and although Varane did train on Sunday, it was only a “special session.”
      Neither of the injuries are thought to be serious, but it’s still sure to give Rangnick an unwanted headache.
      Connolly – Too many statements from Utd stars
      Former Premier League player David Connolly has claimed Manchester United’s stars should not be “making that many statements on social media” after defeats.
      A number of United’s squad have posted lengthy messages across the course of the season, vowing to improve matters at Old Trafford.
      But Speaking to Off The Ball, Connolly said: “I took a lot of criticism when I was playing and I think at times it’s unfortunate but it’s par for the course, whether it’s from the media, newspapers or journalists, shows like this, tons of fans.
      “You accept it and you accept it because you’re playing football, you know you have done so well to be able to play football, you accept that it’s part and parcel of it.
      “In there somewhere I guess is a middle ground that you have to find and I don’t think Marcus or too many other players should be making that many statements on social media.
      “Certainly you can’t apologise incessantly for all your failings in every regard.”

      Manchester United have reportedly interviewed THREE candidates for the managerial role.
      Erik ten Hag held discussions last week over the role.
      But speaking on the United We Stand podcast, Andy Mitten confirmed that United have now spoken to three candidates over the position.
      And while one of those is Ten Hag, although the identity of the other two remains unknown.
      As well as Ten Hag, Mauricio Pochettino, Julen Lopetegui and Luis Enrique are all thought to be candidates for the role.

      Roma though are reportedly not prepared to entertain any offers whatsoever for the 24-year-old.

      Christian Pulisic says his ‘worm’ goal celebration – after he scored for the USA in their 5-1 win over Panama – was for a young fan with cancer.
      The Chelsea winger revealed it was for 15-year-old Mason Ogle, who has osteosarcoma and was the USA’s matchday ambassador for the game.
      Pulisic said: “I met someone really special yesterday.

      Blues bidders to learn fate
      The four parties still in the running to buy Chelsea will discover which has the backing of Raine Group next month.
      The bank overseeing the sale of the football club has told the remaining bidders that it intends to present their preferred bid to the government and the Premier League during the week of April 18.
      Sky News understands that a letter has been sent to those on the shortlist, indicating that the government will also be approached to issue a licence enabling a quick sale that could be completed by the end of the season.
      The remaining contenders were told over the weekend that they had until April 11 to refine their final offers.
      Blues monitoring contract rebel Marquinhos
      If Romelu Lukaku is to head to Paris this summer, then at least one player may be heading in the opposition direction.
      It is understood that Chelsea have been keeping a close eye on Marquinhos’ situation at PSG, and are prepared to make an offer for the defender as soon as they receive the green light from their new owners.
      The 27-year-old has two years to run on his deal in the French capital, and, according to L’Equipe, is no closer to signing a new contract with his club.

      Ben Chilwell and Chelsea Football Club have so far failed to comment on the emergence of a video that showed the Blues left-back taking part in a tug-of-war with a tiger.
      The Sun broke the news yesterday after obtaining the footage of the England defender taking part in the ‘tiger tug’ at Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay, Florida.
      Animal Welfare groups have condemned the theme park’s attraction. The RSPCA said: “We don’t feel this activity promotes respect for these wild animals and should not be marketed for public entertainment.”

      Speaking on England duty he said: “I’ve been at the club since I was six-years-old and something like this has not happened before, so it can be a concern.
      “At the beginning, and even now, we don’t really know where it’s going and what’s happening the next day. So it’s difficult.
      “But we focus on our football and what we can do is try and win as many games as we can.
      “When I go back to Chelsea next week, I’m sure we will be informed about what’s going on because I haven’t heard anything recently.”

      Animal welfare charity The RSPCA condemned Ben Chilwell after a video of him playing tug-of-war with a tiger was made public.
      They said: “We don’t feel this activity promotes respect for these wild animals and should not be marketed for public entertainment.
      “Zoos often state that their aim is to educate the public and have a positive influence on visitor behaviour in ways that will directly benefit conservation.
      “Whilst we understand zoos which do this may feel that a ‘tug-of-war’ provides physical enrichment for big cats, there are many alternative ways of doing this.”
      Chelsea declined to comment on concerns that their £20million-rated star could have further damaged his knee.

      Done and dusted
      Jorginho has left Italy duty to return to Chelsea, and could soon announce his retirement from international football, according to reports.
      The midfielder was part of the team that were embarrassed by minnows North Macedonia and knocked out of the World Cup play-offs.
      Roberto Mancini’s side still have a friendly to play against Turkey on Tuesday.
      But Corriere dello Sport claim Jorginho has already left the international camp.
      The report goes on to suggest the 30-year-old could soon retire from international football altogether.

      Chelsea star Ben Chilwell has been rapped by animal welfare chiefs over a tug-of-war challenge with a tiger.
      The £190,000-a-week ace, who has a knee injury, was seen grinning with three pals during their tussle with the caged beast at a theme park.
      With meat attached to a rope they heave while a 20-stone white tiger pulls them towards the cage.
      It is believed to have been filmed at Busch Gardens, Tampa, Florida, where Chilwell, 25, is enjoying a break.
      A source who passed the footage to The Sun said: “It’s animal abuse.
      “They’re not treating the tiger with respect. It’s just fun to them. It’s probably winding up the poor animal, who is being used for entertainment.”
      Gallagher eyeing World Cup spot
      Conor Gallagher already has eyes on a World Cup spot, despite playing just two games for England.
      The on-loan Chelsea man impressed against Switzerland on Saturday, having done the same at club level for Crystal Palace.
      Gallagher said: “Of course it would be amazing to be in the World Cup squad.
      “It’s still a good few months away, so I just need to focus on my club football and take every game as it comes.

      Chelsea and Arsenal are both claimed to be keen on a move for Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo.

      Juve all out for Rudiger
      Antonio Rudiger will be billed as the new ‘Chiellini’ to help lure him to Juventus this summer.
      The Chelsea defender is out of contract at the end of this season and the Italian giants want him to lead their defence into a new era.
      Their plan for him to ultimately take over from club legend Giorgio Chiellini as the heartbeat of the back line is an added incentive.
      Rudiger has already been offered a deal worth around £5.5million-a-season over five years to tempt the athletic Germany centre-back.

      Nevin not listened to
      Former Chelsea man Pat Nevin has revealed he tried to persuade Chelsea to sign Kieran Tierney from Celtic.
      But the Blues opted against a move, and instead signed Ben Chilwell.
      As per Metro, Nevin said: “I tried to get Chelsea to buy him four years ago but they didn’t listen and ended up signing Ben Chilwell from Leicester City for twice as much as Kieran would have cost them
      “He hasn’t peaked yet, which is quite frightening.
      “When I first met him he was a confident boy but he’s subsequently gone beyond that to have this total and utter belief in himself and you can see it by the way he carries himself on the pitch: you just think: ‘He’s got it’.”
      Werner comments on Chelsea tactics
      Timo Werner has admitted there are “differences” in the tactics used at Chelsea to that in the German national team.
      Werner scored in Germany’s 2-0 win over Israel yesterday, but is in poor form at club level.
      And after the game, he said: “I’m a striker and always want to score.
      “Things aren’t going the way I’d like at Chelsea, so it’s all the better that things are going well here under Hansi Flick.

      Tony tips Gallagher for Liverpool
      Former Chelsea man Tony Cascarino has labelled Conor Gallagher as a perfect fit for Liverpool.
      He told talkSPORT: “Conor Gallagher is an outstanding attacking midfielder who always looks like he’s going to get a goal or make an assist.
      “I like him because I don’t think there’s too many of his type around. Liverpool, for me, if they had a player like that as well adding him behind their front three, with his ability to get goals.
      “Chelsea would never sell him to Liverpool, but they’d do really well with him. Conor Gallagher will get goals. Whether or not he will get his chance at Chelsea, I don’t know.

      Tuchel in for double trouble
      Thomas Tuchel has been warned by Gareth Southgate that playing Conor Gallagher and Mason Mount together could lead to defensive issues for Chelsea.
      Speaking to Sky Sports after England beat Switzerland, Southgate said: “We feel that Mount and Gallagher are very good at pressing and are two attacking 8s.
      “But we know that that system can leave you a bit vulnerable to the switches to the opposite full-back and the Swiss worked that out very well – which is why we made the change of shape in the second half.
      “But we had an idea of what we wanted to do, and although we would have liked to have Bukayo Saka and a couple of the other wing-backs to look at that, I still think it was worth seeing.”
      Tchou the man
      Chelsea have been handed a boost in the race to sign Aurelien Tchouameni after his agent denied they have an agreement in place with Real Madrid.
      Reports suggested Tchouameni had a deal in place to sign for Real.
      But according to his agent, who was speaking to Le Parisien, there is no agreement on personal terms between the two camps.
      Tchouameni’s agents’ comments will be news to Chelsea’s ears, but the Blues may also have to fend off a challenge from Paris Saint-Germain for the France international’s signature.

      Blues bidders to learn fate
      The four parties battling to buy Chelsea from Roman Abramovich will discover which has the backing of Raine Group during the week of April 18.
      The bank overseeing the sale has told bidders it intends to present their preferred bid to the government and the Premier League.
      Sky News understands a letter has been sent to those on the shortlist, indicating the government will also be asked to issue a licence enabling a quick sale that could be completed by the end of the season.
      The suitors were told over the weekend that they had until April 11 to refine their final offers.
      Abramovich ‘suffers suspected poisoning’
      Chelsea’s embattled and outgoing owner Roman Abramovich suffered suspected poisoning along with Ukraine peace negotiators earlier this month, according to the Wall Street Journal.
      The Russian oligarch and two officials are said to have developed symptoms including red eyes, painful tearing and peeling skin while acting in the role of peacemakers at a meeting in Kyiv.
      Abramovich is currently selling the Blues as a result of pressure put on him by the UK government in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

      Bent picks Odegaard over Bruno
      Former Premier League striker Darren Bent has claimed he would pick Martin Odegaard over Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes.
      Fernandes has struggled for form this campaign, while Odegaard has come into his own since his permanent move in the summer.
      And Bent told talkSPORT: “Of course, he’s been a very good player for Manchester United, but I’m still waiting for him to turn up when they really need him in those big games.
      “Right now, I’d rather have Martin Odegaard with the way Arsenal are playing.

      Rashford not “clinical” enough
      Ex-Chelsea man Tony Cascarino doesn’t think Marcus Rashford is “clinical” enough to lead the line for Arsenal.
      Rashford has been linked with a move to the Gunners amid reports of him wanting to leave Manchester United.
      But Cascarino told talkSPORT: “To be a natural striker, and this is something I learned along the way and I got better at as I got older, so Marcus could become better, because there’s no reason why someone can’t improve, you have to be very, very clinical.
      “You have to punish because, if you’re going to a club like Arsenal, they’re looking to progress and be a Champions League team, so you have to be clinical in front of goal.
      “I joked and sometimes called Lacazette ‘Lack a finish’, which is a bit harsh because I think he’s a decent player, but he’s not being clinical enough for Arsenal.
      “They’ve needed that, for him to be punishing teams, and I don’t think Marcus is ready to do that at Arsenal.”
      Gunners “tracking” Darwin Nunez

      But a similar proposal in the next transfer window could be accepted by the Gunners, with Maitland-Niles out of contract at the end of next season.
      Napoli demanding £83m for Osimhen
      Arsenal and Manchester United look set to be priced out of a move to sign Victor Osimhen with Napoli demanding a whopping £83million for the striker.

      Youri Tielemans has put Arsenal and Manchester United on red alert after declaring he wishes to play Champions League football.

      Tielemans faces an uncertain future at the King Power Stadium with the Belgium international having just one year left on his contract.

      Commenting on his future, Tielemans has revealed he is not thinking about next season, but stressed he wants to be competing for Europe’s premier tournament.

      Pulisic insight into ‘worm’ celebration
      Christian Pulisic says his ‘worm’ goal celebration – after he scored for the USA in their 5-1 win over Panama – was for a young fan with cancer.
      The Chelsea winger revealed it was for 15-year-old Mason Ogle, who has osteosarcoma and was the USA’s matchday ambassador for the game.
      Pulisic said: “I met someone really special yesterday.

      Werner finds comfort in country
      Chelsea striker Timo Werner has admitted that he feels more comfortable playing football for Germany than he does at Stamford Bridge.
      The 26-year-old has struggled to make an impact in the Premier League since joining the Blues for £47million two years ago, scoring just seven times in 49 appearances.
      However, Werner hasn’t lost his touch in front of goal when it comes to the international stage, and was again on the mark on Saturday when the Germans defeated Israel 2-0 in a friendly.
      Werner has netted six times in his last six appearances for his country, and afterwards said: “I’m a striker and always want to score.
      “Things aren’t going the way I’d like at Chelsea so it’s all the better that things are going well here under Hansi Flick.
      “I really enjoy playing football, no matter where I’m playing. There are differences in the style of play between football at Chelsea and here.
      “Maybe the national team suits me better. Here, I always have scoring chances, I can score goals. I feel very comfortable here.”

      Eddie Glad to be going
      Borussia Monchengladbach are considering a move for Arsenal outcast Eddie Nketiah.
      The Gunners had high hopes for the 22-year-old striker, but he’s failed to make a serious breakthrough at the Emirates despite a shortage of attacking options at the club.
      Nketiah is yet to start a Premier League game this season, and has totalled just 114 minutes of game time during 11 substitute appearances.

      Teen ‘hurt’ after rejecting Reds
      Andreas Schjelderup has revealed his ‘hurt’ at having to reject a move to Liverpool, but hopes to join the Premier League giants in the future.
      The 17-year-old sensation was on trial at Anfield two years ago, but turned down a permanent move in order to stay in his homeland with Nordsjaelland.
      Schjelderup has since built a reputation as being Norway’s latest wonderkid, and again has the eyes of top European clubs upon him after two impressive seasons in the first team.
      The attacking midfielder told Goal: “Of course, it was a bit hard [to reject Liverpool] because when you grow up, you watch the big names and then you hear that they want you so your head starts to spin.
      “But I got a lot of help from my father and agents, who helped me make the right decision.
      “It hurt a little bit for me and my dad in our hearts [not to join Liverpool], but the move here was instead of going to an academy at under-19 or under-17 level.
      “Of course, maybe I can go to a big team in the future. In the long run, for me, this was the best step. When I am ready, I will take the next step.”

      No Real deal for Tchouameni – yet
      Premier League pair Chelsea and Manchester United have been handed a boost by the news that – contrary to reports – Aurelien Tchouameni has not agreed to sign for Real Madrid.
      Spanish media had claimed a deal had been done, but Tchouameni’s agent insists that no such move has been confirmed.
      The two English clubs have been monitoring the 22-year-old’s development at Monaco, and both see the player as the ideal midfielder to build their side around for years to come.
      However, Madrid remain very interested despite the press jumping the gun, as do Ligue 1 big-spenders Paris Saint-Germain.

      United planning Shaw and Rashford talks
      Manchester United are planning to enter discussions with Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford over new contracts, according to ESPN’S Rob Dawson.
      The future of the England pair had been considered uncertain with both underperforming this season, and seemingly unhappy with life at Old Trafford.
      Yet the duo ‘are considered part of a key group of core players that United want to keep’ ahead of a significant squad overhaul in the summer.
      The current deals of both players are due to expire in June 2023.

      League Two Port Vale set a unique record on Saturday afternoon, setting them apart from every other club in the English football pyramid.
      The Valiants defeated Sutton United 2-0 at Vale Park, and, in doing so, became the first side to have beaten each of the other 91 clubs in the Premier League and Football League in a league encounter.

      Blues bidders to learn fate
      The four parties still in the running to buy Chelsea will discover which has the backing of Raine Group next month.
      The bank overseeing the sale of the football club has told the remaining bidders that it intends to present their preferred bid to the government and the Premier League during the week of April 18.
      Sky News understands that a letter has been sent to those on the shortlist, indicating that the government will also be approached to issue a licence enabling a quick sale that could be completed by the end of the season.
      The remaining contenders were told over the weekend that they had until April 11 to refine their final offers.
      League One strugglers sack Robinson
      AFC Wimbledon have parted company with head coach Mark Robinson, the League One club have announced.
      The news came after the south London club slipped to a 1-0 home defeat to Cambridge on Saturday, making it 21 league games without a win.
      The Dons have dropped from being sat in fourth place in September to being fourth from bottom and in the relegation zone.
      Blues monitoring contract rebel Marquinhos
      If Romelu Lukaku is to head to Paris this summer, then at least one player may be heading in the opposition direction.
      It is understood that Chelsea have been keeping a close eye on Marquinhos’ situation at PSG, and are prepared to make an offer for the defender as soon as they receive the green light from their new owners.
      The 27-year-old has two years to run on his deal in the French capital, and, according to L’Equipe, is no closer to signing a new contract with his club.
      However, the Brazilian defender supposedly wants a significant increase in his salary – currently thought to be around £250k-per-week – and it remains to be seen whether Chelsea in a post-Roman Abramovich era could afford such wages.

      Mancini to remain Azzurri boss
      Roberto Mancini hopes to keep his job as Italy head coach despite the country’s embarrassing failure to reach this year’s World Cup.
      The European champions were beaten to top spot in their qualifying group by Switzerland last year, and were then shocked at home by North Macedonia in Thursday’s play-off semi-final.
      Many expected Mancini to step down in the aftermath, but the former Manchester City boss has confirmed that he wants to stay on in the role.
      He said: “We’re on the same point with the [Italian Football] Federation – I’m happy about that, we’re gonna discuss it again in the coming days.
      “We’ll speak about plans for the future and things to be improved as soon as possible.”
      Southgate to rotate Three Lions
      Gareth Southgate will freshen up his England side for tomorrow evening’s friendly with Ivory Coast at Wembley.
      The Three Lions boss has promised to rotate his squad during this international break, and will give game time to as many players in the group as possible.
      That’s likely to mean starts in defence for Harry Maguire and Tyrone Mings, who both sat out Saturday’s win over Switzerland.
      It may also mean a change in goal despite Jordan Pickford’s impressive performance against the Swiss with Nick Pope and Fraser Forster – back in the England squad for the first time since 2017 – waiting in the wings.
      PSG ready to rescue Romelu
      Paris Saint-Germain are preparing to end Romelu Lukaku’s Chelsea nightmare by bringing the striker to the Parc des Princes.
      The Football Insider understands that the Ligue 1 club hope to take advantage of the Belgian’s unhappiness at the Bridge to pick him up on the ‘cheap’.
      Lukaku cost the Blues £97m last summer when returning to the London club for a second spell.
      The 28-year-old insisted that it was his dream move at the time, but it has since turned sour due to a series of below-par performances and misguided interviews.
      The former Manchester United forward has netted just five Premier League goals this term, and only two since early September.
      PSG view Lukaku as the best option to replace Kylian Mbappe, who is widely expected to join Real Madrid on a free transfer.

      Deal prepared for happy Saka
      Arsenal have been busy finalising a bumper contract to offer Bukayo Saka at the end of the season.
      Transfers expert Fabrizio Romano reports that the plan remains for Gunners officials to sit down with the England international in the summer to discuss his future.
      Liverpool and Manchester City have bees linked with the young star, but Romano believes Arsenal fans have nothing to worry about.
      He states that the 20-year-old is ‘really happy’ with life at the Emirates, and is fully focused on helping the club qualify for the Champions League.
      Spurs heading chase for Memphis
      Tottenham are leading the race to sign Barcelona’s Memphis Depay, according to Mundo Deportivo.
      The Spanish publication believe that Spurs are one of a number of European clubs monitoring the Dutchman’s situation at the Nou Camp.
      Depay is Barca’s top scorer this season with ten goals, but has played less of prominent role since Xavi’s arrival as manager.
      The 28-year-old insists he’s happy at the LaLiga club despite the current form of Ousmane Dembele and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang restricting him to appearances from the bench.
      However, with only a year to run on his current contract, there is the acceptance that both player and club will be considering options in the summer.

      Thiago Silva tight-lipped on future
      Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has refused to comment on the rumours of a possible return to Fluminense.
      Despite signing a one-year extension with the Blues, the 37-year-old has recently been linked with a move back to the Brazilian club he represented between 2006 and 2008.
      The centre-back was speaking to the press after captaining Brazil to a 4-0 win over Chile in World Cup qualifying.

      Leeds suffer new Bamford blow
      Patrick Bamford will miss Leeds’ crucial relegation run-in after he was ruled out for at least six weeks with a foot injury.
      The England striker has endured a torrid season, managing only ten appearances in all competitions due to a range of different fitness issues.
      The 28-year-old, who hasn’t completed 90 minutes since September, has now ruptured a ligament in his foot after the exacerbation of a previous injury.
      Bamford doesn’t require surgery, but will struggle to feature again this season as the Yorkshire club battle the drop.
      Back-to-back wins have given Leeds some breathing space at the bottom, but they remain only two places outside of the relegation zone.

      The Sunday Post report that Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti has long been an admirer of the 24-year-old, and attempted to sign him from Celtic for Napoli back in 2019.

      United set sights on Kane
      Manchester United want to bring a stellar striker to the club in the summer – and Harry Kane is at the top of their list.
      The Athletic understand that Old Trafford officials are seriously considering an approach for Kane after holding initial talks with Tottenham back in July.
      The Red Devils will require attacking reinforcements with Edinson Cavani destined to leave, Mason Greenwood unavailable indefinitely following his arrest, and question marks over the futures of Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.
      Spurs chief Daniel Levy refused to play ball with Manchester City last summer, but may now consider moving the 28-year-old forward on for big money with his contract ticking down.
      Kane, who took his goal tally with England to 49 on Saturday, has only two more years to run on his current deal.

      Bale hails Wayne’s Wales achievement
      Gareth Bale has welcomed Wayne Hennessey into the 100-cap club and declared his love for the Wales goalkeeper.
      The Burnley stopper will join great Home Nations keepers Peter Shilton and Pat Jennings by notching up a century of appearances against Czech Republic on Tuesday.
      Hennessey also becomes the third Welshman to hit a ton of caps for his country behind Chris Gunter and close pal Bale when he leads out his team-mates in the Cardiff friendly.
      Wales captain Bale said: “What an amazing and incredible achievement for a goalkeeper to get 100 caps!
      “Wayne probably doesn’t get the recognition but I guess as a keeper if people aren’t talking about you that’s a great thing because you haven’t made many mistakes. What a goalkeeper!

      Ainsley return to spark bidding war
      Premier League clubs have been placed on alert after it was revealed that Ainsley Maitland-Niles would not be making his loan move to Roma permanent.
      The Mirror report that the Arsenal midfielder, who has spent the season with Jose Mourinho’s Serie A outfit, will return to north London in June.
      However, with just a year to run on his current deal at the Emirates, the Gunners are likely to cash in on the 24-year-old midfielder.
      A number of top-flight sides are said to be interested including Everton, who had a £10m bid rejected for the player last summer.
      Maitland-Niles made his debut for Arsenal as a 17-year-old in 2014, and has since gone on to make 132 appearances for the club.

      Christian Pulisic scored a hat-trick to leave the United States on the verge of qualification for the World Cup.
      The Chelsea star converted two penalties against Panama in Sunday evening’s Concacaf qualifier and then completed his treble in style as USA cruised to a 5-1 win.
      The result means Gregg Berhalter’s team have all but made it to Qatar 2022, needing only to avoid a defeat of six goals or more to Costa Rica on Wednesday, and will join fellow North American country Canada at November’s finals.

      England return to action tomorrow as Gareth Southgate’s side welcome Ivory Coast to Wembley.
      And Three Lions boss Southgate has already revealed there will be plenty of changes for Tuesday’s clash.
      He said: “We think that’s the right thing to do.
      “We want to keep all of the squad involved. I think that has been a strength for us. Players who come in perform well at the level and the team march on.
      “They need to feel that we’ve got the confidence in them to go into any game and we’re also at a stage of the season where their load is heavy and we’ve got to make sure we try and navigate that in the best way possible.”
      Elsewhere Chelsea’s takeover saga will drag on for another fortnight with the four remaining bidders given until April 11 to submit their final proposals.
      The Raine Group have whittled contenders down to a quartet, with an emphasis placed on committing £1billion in future investment into the West London club.
      Each will have until April 11 to potentially up their bids, before the Raine Group will make their final decision.
      And finally, Tottenham are reportedly keen to swoop for Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui IF Antonio Conte leaves in the summer.
      Conte is renowned for his short stays at each of his clubs, and already hinted at a Spurs exit following the defeat to Burnley in February.
      If that’s the case, outlet Fichajes claim Spurs could look to appoint Lopetegui as his successor.
      Canada qualify for first World Cup since 1986
      Canada qualified for the World Cup finals for just the second time on Sunday, beating Jamaica 4-0 to book their ticket to Qatar and end 36 years of failure and heartache.
      After failing to clinch a finals spot with a 1-0 away loss to Costa Rica on Thursday, Canada returned home with renewed purpose and a chance to complete the job in front of a frenzied, red-clad flag-waving soldout crowd of nearly 30,000 at BMO Field.
      There would be no blown second opportunity as Cyle Larin and Tajon Buchanan netted in the first half and Junior Hoilett added another after the break with Adrian Mariappa’s own goal rounding off the scoring.
      Canada will play at the World Cup for the first time since 1986 in Mexico, where they lost all three games and failed to score a goal.
      With just one round of qualifying matches remaining, Canada sit top of the CONCACAF standings on 28 points, six clear of regional powerhouses the United States and Mexico, who play later on Sunday, looking to secure their own Qatar places.

      MAX VERSTAPPEN has beaten Charles Leclerc in a thrilling battle for victory at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.World champion Verstappen attempted to overtake Ferrari driver Leclerc twice but he locked up on the second attempt.

      Gasly raced with “stabbing” pain
      Pierre Gasly was checked out by medics after experiencing a “stabbing” pain mid-race in Jeddah.
      He revealed in the media pen that he had seen a doctor after finishing in P8, but didn’t reveal what the prognosis was.
      Gasly told Sky Sports: “The last 15 laps I’ve never had that much pain, I don’t know what happened in my intestine.
      “The last 10 laps was like getting stabbed every left corner, the most painful laps I’ve had so I don’t know what’s happened.
      “Anyway I’m just happy the race is over and happy we got these points.”

      Ricciardo remaining upbeat
      Ever the optimist, Daniel Ricciardo didn’t have a bad word to say, despite retiring from the race early.
      That followed a disappointing 14th place finish last week.
      But the Aussie said: “I lost drive so it could be a number of things – maybe drive shaft if I was to guess but I’m no mechanic so don’t take my word for it!
      “But yeah obviously I think we could have had a double points which is pretty awesome from where we were a week ago.
      “And yeah, it was looking alright. I think there are some positives to take from the weekend for sure.
      “So yeah we still have a lot to go but certainly some progress which was nice.”
      Ferrari start 2022 with a bang
      Ferrari follow up last week’s one-two finish with P2 and P3 today.
      They promised they’d deliver a championship contending car this season, and despite it being early days in the calendar they are certainly delivering on that promise.

      Leclerc loving new rules
      Ferrari driver and P2 in today’s race Charles Leclerc is loving the new regulations for the 2022 season, aimed to make overtaking easier and racing more exciting.
      He exclaimed: “The new regulations are definitely working!
      “And yeah I was just trying to do everything I could, I knew my weakness was the speed in the straights compared to the Red Bull, they were incredibly quick down the straights.
      “It was fun. I mean I liked racing like this and it was actually much easier to follow than what I initially thought.”
      Hamilton left puzzled by P10
      Lewis Hamilton finished so far behind the leaders in the Saudi Arabian GP – he didn’t even know if he scored points for 10th place, as BEN HUNT reports.
      The seven time world champion fears he will not be battling Max Verstappen and Charles Lecler for the title this season.
      Instead he will be slugging it out with minnows Haas, who finished last in the championship in 2021 and only called up Kevin Magnussen at the 11th hour to replace axed Russian, Nikita Mazepin.
      Hamilton was issued an apology by his race engineer as he crossed the finish line in Jeddah, he said: “OK Lewis, that’s P10. Sorry about that.”
      Hamilton replied: “Is there even a point for that position?”

      Formula One breaks for two weeks now after back-to-back GP’s to kick off the season.
      And we’ll be heading down under for the next race.
      Melbourne is the venue for the third GP of the campaign, with that one scheduled for Sunday, April 10.

      Football legend Edgar Davids was trackside in Jeddah taking in the action.
      And by the sounds of things he didn’t care who took the chequered flag.
      When asked by Sky Sports who he was supporting, Davids says: “I’m supporting Ferrari, Max [Verstappen] and Lewis [Hamilton].”

      It was another solid drive for George Russell today, who has impressed in his two races for Mercedes so far.
      He says, speaking to Sky Sports: “It was quite an enjoyable race considering I was all by myself throughout. It was probably the most physical race I have experienced. I want to be doing this for victories, not P5.
      “The car felt good, the balance was great. We were just lacking overall grip.
      “It was a cool experience, I think all the drivers were pushed to the limit. We are making baby steps at the moment, we need to make some bigger leaps. I am sure we can, but timeline I don’t know.”
      Lewis’ lowdown after Jeddah
      Here’s what Lewis Hamilton has to say after today’s race.
      The Brit doesn’t think much has changed with his car since Bahrain last week, with “lots of work” still to do to get it competing.
      Speaking to Sky Sports, he says: “I don’t particularly feel like much has changed I think since the last race.
      “It’s only been a few days, so what I know is I couldn’t keep up with the Haas at the end.
      “The power they have, they came flying, sling-shotting past me when I overtook Magnussen earlier in the race so we’ve got a lot of work to do for sure.
      “But I know we’ve got a great team and we’ll just keep our heads down and try to improve.”
      Horner reacts to race win
      Red Bull team principal Christian Horner praised Max Verstappen’s “patience” after he overtook Charles Leclerc late on in Jeddah.
      Speaking to Sky Sports, Horner says: “What a great race, an exciting last few laps and we just had enough to bring it home.
      “It was a patient race for Max, he looked after his tyres. Such bad luck for Checo [Sergio Perez], The Safety Car was at the wrong time but you can’t do anything about that. He’s driven brilliantly all weekend, he’ll take a lot of confidence.”

      Sainz speaks after P3
      Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz was pleased with his efforts, which saw him follow up second place in Bahrain with another podium today.
      He said: “It was a close call with Checo [Sergio Perez]. I think he got a bit unlucky with the safety car but the rules are the rules. I was just ahead at the safety line, it was my position then. From then it was all about holding on to P3.
      “The Red Bulls were super quick in the last 10 laps after the tyres cooled down, they were flying and putting pressure on us.
      “For me this race was a bit of progress from Bahrain. I managed to find a bit more rhythm with the car. There are still some tenth to find but I think I will end up getting there.”
      Runner-up Charles Leclerc reacts
      Ferrari star Leclerc said: “Oh my god! I really enjoyed that race. It’s hard racing but fair.
      “Every race should be like this. It was fun, I’m of course disappointed, we wanted to win today.”
      Mentioning his respect for Verstappen, he added: “It’s always been there, especially when you finish a race like this.
      “We’re on a street track, we’ve been pushing like I’ve rarely pushed before to the absolute limit, and we take risks at the end, so of course there is respect.”

      Following his win, the Dutchman said: “It was really tough but a good race. We were battling hard at the front and we just tried to play the long game.
      “They were really quick through the corners and we were really quick on the straight. The tyres were wearing our quite quickly around here.

      Raine’s four remaining candidates possess a wealth of experience in sports ownership.
      Sir Martin Broughton and Lord Coe’s bid is backed by American financiers Josh Harris and Dave Blitzer.
      The duo already own the Philadelphia 76ers of the NBA, as well as the New Jersey Devils of the NHL.
      Also involved is Vivek Ranadive, who owns the Sacramento Kings – the NBA franchise that has currently gone the longest without reaching the play-offs.

      Another bid remaining in the process is that of LA Dodgers owner Todd Boehly, whose ownership of the MLB franchise has overseen renovations on Dodger Stadium.
      Chicago Cubs chief Tom Ricketts’ controversial bid has made it through – despite Chelsea fans’ concerns over Islamophobic emails previously sent by his father Joe.
      Under Ricketts family stewardship, the Cubs’ Wrigley Field home underwent a £1bn renovation.
      Stephen Pagliuca’s under the radar approach is the fourth to have made the shortlist.
      The 67-year-old already owns the Boston Celtics, as well as Serie A side Atalanta.
      Chelsea bidders given April 11 deadline
      Chelsea’s takeover saga will drag on for another fortnight with the four remaining bidders given until April 11 to submit their final proposals.
      The Raine Group have whittled contenders down to a quartet, with an emphasis placed on committing £1billion in future investment into the West London club.
      Each will have until April 11 to potentially up their bids, before the Raine Group will make their final decision.
      According to Sky Sports, this deadline could see the Blues taken over by the end of the next month.
      After Raine decide on their preferred bid, the takeover will still be subject to government approval.
      A key deciding factor could be each bidder’s plans to renovate Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge home.
      The 40,834 capacity is dwarfed by that of Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal’s homes.

      Laporta is still holding talks with Dembele, whose deal with Barca runs out in June, and insists he will have to lower his wage demands if he wishes to stay at the Nou Camp.
      As reported by Fabrizio Romano, the Barca bigwig has told the winger he will have to adapt to the club’s new salary scale that is set to come into effect next season.

      Hazard’s spell at Los Blancos has been blighted by repeated setbacks since joining from the Blues three years ago.
      Hazard, 31, has picked up his 16th injury at the Bernabeu – with the Belgium international to to have surgery on his right leg in order to remove a plate.

      In 2016 it was revealed Hazard was the most fouled player in the Premier League.
      A year beforehand, while Mourinho worked with the winger, the Special One warned the forward’s career could be cut short due to constant fouls.

      On Twitter, he announced: “Chelsea were in advanced talks to sign talented Chicago Fire goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina, born in 2004.
      “The plan was to sign Slonina for £5/6m fee, then loan him back to Chicago until 2023.
      “Talks have now broken down due to UK sanctions.”
      Ex-Chelsea Marin announces retirement from football aged 33
      Former Chelsea midfielder Marko Marin has announced that he will retire at the end of the season.
      Marin, 33, played for 12 clubs during his time as a professional footballer, including Werder Bremen and Sevilla.
      He failed to properly establish himself in the Premier League despite winning the Europa League with the Blues.

      Marin rarely had a spot in the starting line-up whilst at Chelsea, so the club decided to loan him out for four consecutive seasons before selling him to Olympiacos in 2016.

      Hazard unlikely to play in quarter-final clash
      Real Madrid star Eden Hazard is unlikely to be involved in the Champions League quarter-final clash against former club Chelsea.
      That is according to The Athletic, who report that Hazard is a doubt for the first leg against the Blues on April 6 at Stamford Bridge due to injury.
      The winger is expected to have surgery on his right leg in order to remove a plate, which was implanted after he broke his ankle in March 2020.

      Hazard has been enduring another difficult season marred by injury as he has only made eight starts in LaLiga this season.
