Stam says build the team around Ronaldo, Bruno and Pogba
“These are three players that I’m thinking okay if you can use them then you need to work the team around them and try to create the team around them so you can play very nice and attractive football.”
“You’ve got wingers, Rashford on the wing, with a lot of pace.
“There’s Sancho as well for the other side that you can use as well. With his right foot, he comes in from the left, on the inside with his right.”
“That means you need to have a full back who is very fit and very good on the ball and can go up and down the pitch for 95 minutes but not be injured occasionally.
“Trying to have somebody who can be up for it, week in and week out and play a lot of games.
“That’s what you need to have on the right side as well.”

Jaap Stam talks on current crop
Manchester United legend Jaap Stam gave his thoughts on the current team.
Stam was speaking to bettingexpert about which players he’d build the team around.
He said: “When you’re looking at the squad now, there are a few players I think you work around in building your team.”
“That’s Cristiano if you want to keep him. I think Bruno as well, in the midfield. I would keep Pogba, also there is a big discussion, but I think you need to use him in a certain way because I like him as a player and what he can bring.”
How are Ajax doing this season under Ten Hag?
The Dutch giants are currently locked in a tight Eredivisie title race.
Ten Hag’s men lead PSV by two points at the top of the table, with their boss aiming to win his third league title as manager.
The Ajax boss is the now favourite for the Manchester United job, ahead of other contenders Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel.

Speaking to broadcaster Sport1, Ten Hag said: “I’ve sat down with Ajax after every season – and this year again, I can say that Ajax and Ten Hag are very happy with each other at the moment.
“I need all my energy for final games. Anything else would just be a distraction.”
But when pressed further, he admitted: “In football you never know.
“I don’t want to rule anything out. I know that in football everything can change from one day to the next.”
Ten Hag pleads with Ajax fans
Erik Ten Hag has pleaded with Ajax fans to understand if he leaves the club.
He said: “My focus is currently only on Ajax. But in football you never know. I don’t want to rule anything out. I’m currently employed here at Ajax to perform.
“With the cup final against Eindhoven, we still have eight finals left, and I need all my energy for that.
“Anything else would just be a distraction. I know that in football everything can change from one day to the next. If at some point I should decide to take the next step, I hope that people here will understand.”
    Rangnick’s Maguire vow
Ralf Rangnick insists the Old Trafford crowd will get behind Harry Maguire after he was booed by England fans in midweek, NEIL CUSTIS WRITES.
Rangnick said: “Harry has been a very valuable player for the team and the club as the captain.
“I didn’t understand what happened at Wembley, it won’t happen in our stadium with the Red Army.
“He’s been playing well for Manchester United and England in the last couple of years.
“For it to happen in an international game is unusual but I’m sure it won’t happen in our stadium.”
    Ten Hag ADMITS United talks
Erik Ten Hag has called Manchester United a “great club” – and admits that talks are “always” ongoing with representatives from other teams.
Speaking to broadcaster Sport1, he said: “People know each other in our business.
“There are always talks with representatives from other clubs, that’s normal.
“Man United is a big club with great fans. But I can only repeat that my full focus is on Ajax.”
Fernandes wants to play with Garner
Bruno Fernandes has named the Man United youngster who he wants to play with the most.
United starlet James Garner will be happy to hear that the senior first-star Fernandes picked him in a Q&A on Twitter.
And Fernandes will most likely get his wish as he’s just penned a new six-year deal with the Red Devils.
    United want Pogba stay
Man United are reportedly waiting on the appointment of a new manager before offering Paul Pogba a new long-term contract.
Now italian football journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has offered an update on Pogba’s situation during an interview with wettfreunde.
He said: “I know that Manchester United would like to keep him.
“They are waiting for the decision to be made on a new manager before they make a final decision. Maybe the new coach wants him to be the centre of the new project.
“They will try to renew his contract. But I think that Paul at this moment prefers a change.
“He will listen to offers in Ligue 1 and LaLiga that can give him some new ’emotions’.”
Ukraine want friendy with Prem club
Ukraine manager Oleksandr Petrakov wants to play a Premier League side to prepare for his nation’s play-off tie with Scotland.
Petrakov’s got his eyes set on a game at Wembley, preferably with a London club.
He told the Guardian: “We could play at Wembley, for example, against a London club.
“It could be a good exhibition game, a response for the Ukrainian army, as well as preparatory work for the Scotland game.”
    Liverpool urged to buy Kane
Ian Wright has urged Liverpool to sign Man United transfer target Harry Kane from Tottenham.
Wright said on his podcast: “Imagine Harry Kane at Liverpool… If I had the capability of getting Kane and putting him in Liverpool’s side with [Mohamed] Salah, or [Sadio] Mane or [Luis] Diaz and playing as the number nine, dropping deep and doing his stuff…
“It won’t be how Firmino does it, those lovely bit of skills and stuff, but Kane can drop in and help create because the two could run behind.”
    De Gea’s anger
David de Gea is reportedly furious at being axed from the Spain squad by Luis Enrique.
According to AS, the Man United stopper didn’t take Enriques decision well and was incensed by his omission.
They also added that De Gea didn’t think Enrique’s choice was justified.
    Rush on Man United
Ian Rush thinks Man United have to take a leaf out of Liverpool’s book to become successful once again.
He told Gambling.com: “You need the commercial success if you’re to sustain results on the field.
“Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool seem to have it down to a tee.
“Klopp is well aware of Liverpool’s commercial appeal and the need to have that in modern football, but his job is to win matches and that feeds commercial success too.
“If United are to get back up to the top table again they’ll have to learn how to strike that balance too.”
    PSG want Arsenal/Man United target
PSG have joined Manchester United and Arsenal in the race to sign Ajax winger Antony, according to reports.
He has 12 goals and 10 assists across all competitions this season, with six of his goal contributions coming in the Champions League.
Premier League duo Man Utd and Arsenal hold an interest in signing Antony.
But according to Le10Sport, PSG has joined the pair in the race to sign the Brazil international.
In fact, PSG have “upped their pursuit” in recent weeks and are currently in the lead to capture Antony’s signature.
‘We need to win every game’
Nemanja Matic has admitted that Man United have to win every single game from now until the end of the season to clinch fourth spot.
He told talkSPORT: “We need to finish in the top four, that is our aim and we will do everything we can to achieve that.
“I think we can make it, but, of course, we will need to win almost every game until the end of the season.
“I think it’s possible and we will do everything for that and never give up.”
    Hodgson on Maguire’s treatment
Watford manager Roy Hodgson blames Man United fans for Harry Maguire’s boos on England duty.
Hodgson said: “But maybe you will tell me something that has been going on with Harry Maguire that I have missed because I don’t follow every single thing that is being said or written so maybe I am being naive.
“But if having seen nothing to warrant any criticism of Maguire, other than the fact that the Manchester United fans are unhappy that their team is losing, in which case I would have to tell all fans to grow up because if you want to support football sometimes your team is going to win and sometimes they are going to lose.”
    Agent Lingard and Gnabry
Man United fans are hoping “agent” Jesse Lingard can help lure Bayern Munich ace Serge Gnabry to Old Trafford.
Lingard has spent some time in Milan during the international break.
And he has been snapped with Arsenal academy graduate Gnabry, who has made a name for himself in Germany.
Man Utd have been tracking Gnabry for some time and Bayern are yet to tie the winger down to new terms.
Sky Germany are reporting that Bayern have so far failed to meet his salary demands – leading an array of clubs to begin circling.
And fans are hoping that lifelong Red Devil Lingard can put a good word in.
One fan said on Twitter: “Agent JLingz bringing in a RW before he leaves.”
    Another said: “Agent Jesse!”

    Merson questions Fernandes’ new contract
Paul Merson doesn’t understand why Man United have decided to hand Bruno Fernandes a new contract.
The Arsenal legend told Sportskeeda: “Bruno Fernandes’ contract situation is an interesting one and pretty much sums up where Manchester United are as a club at the moment.
“I’m not saying he’s a bad player by any stretch of the imagination, but how can they give someone a five-year contract when they haven’t even got a permanent manager?
“What if a new manager comes in and doesn’t quite fancy Fernandes, because there’s every chance coaches won’t like the way he throws his hands up in frustration or his style of play.
“He’s a good player and I like him, but he hasn’t set the world alight at Manchester United this season.
“I just find it a bit strange that they’ve given a massive long-term contract to a player when they haven’t sorted out their managerial dilemma, it’s a big call by the club.”
    Ronaldo’s career plan
Cristiano Ronaldo wants to continue playing for Portugal beyond 2024 – by which time he will be 39.
And team-mate Jose Fonte reckons there is still plenty left in the tank to see him represent Portugal at Euro 2024 in Germany.
The veteran Lille defender told talkSPORT: “I think he’s left it pretty clear in his last interview, he’s the one who decides his future.
“I think that physically he feels good, he feels great.
“If he had the chance to win it and the chance to keep performing at the highest stages then he’ll keep playing, as he said.
“Nobody knows exactly what he has in his mind, so only he can decide his future.
“He wants to play and keep playing so I would assume that he will be in Qatar, and not only in Qatar but in the next Euros at least.”
    Fernandes extends Man United contract
Man United plan to give their fans the perfect pre-match boost today by officially announcing Bruno Fernandes has signed a new contract, writes NEIL CUSTIS.
They certainly need a pick me up, with Leicester the visitors tomorrow, having dropped to sixth in the Premier League and been knocked out the Champions League.
Fernandes helped fire Portugal to the next World Cup with both goals in their 2-0 midweek play-off victory over North Macedonia.
Now he wants to finish the season by getting United back into those Champions League places ahead of a new managerial appointment at Old Trafford.
The new deal will see the Portuguese star will more than double his salary to £240,000 a week after the club hierarchy convinced him of their plans for the future.
Fernandes, 27, was uncertain about staying at the club during this season.
But United have moved to get Ajax coach Eric Ten Hag and start a rebuild towards challenging for the title again, convincing Fernandes to commit himself to the club.
    Rush slams Maguire critics
Ian Rush has slammed England’s boo-boys for jeering Harry Maguire – but praised his Three Lions comrades for supporting Man United ace.
He told Gambling.com: “England’s win over Ivory Coast was overshadowed by some supporters booing Harry Maguire. In my eyes, they’re not real England fans.
“I don’t understand what type of supporter shows up to a game with the intention of booing their own player without them having put a foot wrong.
“It’s a disgrace, really. Those responsible are the type of people who go to games to cause problems for no reason. Maguire has had a few bad games for Manchester United but he’s never let England down, so for him to get booed for nothing is embarrassing really.
“Also, the fact it was only a friendly in which England won comfortably and kept a clean sheet only makes it all the more ridiculous. I’m happy Maguire was able to stand up to it, he didn’t seem fazed by it at all and put in a good shift.
“I can’t really relate to how it must have felt for him – I never got booed in my career – but it was nice to see his England team-mates stick up for him with support from Harry Kane and Jordan Henderson, who have quite rightly urged fans to get behind the team in what is a World Cup year.”
    Ten Hag’s Fergie comparision
Erik Ten Hag shows the tactical and real-time analysis of Sir Alex Ferguson and is “ready” to take on the Manchester United job, according to Steve McClaren.
McClaren told The Telegraph: “His great strength lies not just in his attention to detail and organisation.
“He has a clear philosophy of how he wants to play football, the environment he wants to create.
“In terms of changing games, he is second to none.
“He had carried on with that work ethic and he’s a far better coach and manager now. He was way ahead of his time. Even in Holland.
“The only other one I would have seen do that? That would have been the gaffer.”
    Laporte’s Man United dig
Aymeric Laporte taunted Manchester United by saying City’s success is ‘annoying our neighbours’ – especially as the Red Devils ‘haven’t won anything’ in years.
And Etihad defender Laporte believes City’s dominance is rattling the Red Devils.
The Spain star told the Guardian: “Maybe it’s not that they’re tired of us but they don’t think it’s normal we always win.
“If I’m not mistaken, we’ve won 11 trophies in four years [it’s 10, including two Community Shields].
“That can annoy people, like our neighbours who haven’t won anything.
“They have a lot of supporters, we’re in the same city. It’s hard [for them] to understand.
“But there’s only one winner. They’ve spent a lot of money too.”
    Good morning, Man Utd fans
Manchester United coach Mick Clegg has revealed Paul Scholes once told him he “hated playing for England”, writes GIACOMO PISA.
Scholes won 66 caps for the Three Lions, representing his country at four major tournaments.
But Clegg recalled a tell-all chat between himself and the Manchester United legend back in 2004 in which Scholes laid his feelings bare.
The midfielder was often deployed on the left side for England in order to accommodate Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard in the middle.
And bosses Sven-Goran Eriksson, Glenn Hoddle and Kevin Keegan never really managed to get the best out of Scholes, who won 11 league titles, three FA Cups and two Champions League trophies at club level.
Clegg wrote in his new book, The Power and the Glory: “Paul said he hated playing for England, which came as a bit of a shock.
“I asked him why he kept turning up and he said ‘Well it’s England, that’s what you have to do’.
“Paul was worried about the reaction he would get from the rest of the country if he stopped playing for England.”
Clegg went on to reveal that he advised Scholes he was being “bullied” into playing for England.
And soon after the chat between the pair in 2004 Scholes retired from international football, seven years after making his England debut.
    ‘Ronaldo, donate us your….’
Two Portugal fans took bizarre measures to show off their Cristiano Ronaldo fandom when they watched him play this week, writes ETIENNE FERMIE .
The Manchester United ace lined up for his country against Italy conquerors North Macedonia with a place in this winter’s World Cup on the line.
Porto’s Estadio Dragao was packed with 48,000 fans desperate to help their team get over the line to Qatar.
And two supporters arrived with a weird pre-prepared sign.
The female duo held up a piece of card with a message directed at Ronaldo on it.
It read “Ronaldo doa-nos o teu” in Portuguese – meaning “Ronaldo donate us your…”

After the written message appeared a crudely drawn sperm.
Attached to the banner was a Portuguese flag, as well as a Brazilian one.
It didn’t appear to grab CR7’s attention, as Portugal eased through to the World Cup by winning 2-0.
    United next five fixtures
With Manchester United out of the Champions League, here’s a look at what’s on the Premier League agenda for April.
How many points are you expecting, Red Devils fans?
There’s a couple of easier contests against relegation-battlers but no game in this league is easy.
Then there’s certainly some tricky fixtures towards the end of the month…

    Williams hints at exit
Manchester United ace Brandon Williams has hinted at an Old Trafford exit after his loan stint at Norwich ends, writes KOSTAS LIANOS.
Williams joined the Canaries on a season-long loan last summer due to the lack of first-team football opportunities with United.
The left-back has amassed a total of 26 appearances across all competitions this season and is loving life at Carrow Road.
    Credit: Getty
Williams told Jamie Redknapp for the Daily Mail: “I’m playing games now and I love it. I can’t wait for the weekend so I can get to the stadium.
“There would be no point in me going back to United and just sitting on the bench.
“I want to play and feel I’m better equipped for the Premier League after this experience.
“Whether it’s at United or somewhere else, we’ll deal with that in the summer. But I’ve got a job to do here at Norwich.”
The defender had only one goal in mind before moving to Norfolk and that was to prove he is a “Premier League player”.
Williams added: “I could have stayed and trained but I knew deep down I had to get out and prove I was a Premier League player.”
    It’s a new Die-y
Ex-Man Utd star Diego Forlan is rocking a new look after ditching his iconic golden locks.
The 42-year-old has been snapped at the 72nd Fifa Congress at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center with brown hair and a beard.

    Cody Gakpo race heats up
Man United could join the bidding war for PSV Eindhoven star and Arsenal transfer target Cody Gakpo, reports suggest.
That is according to Manchester Evening News, who claim that United may turn to Gakpo as they will need at least one attacker in the summer to replace the departing Edinson Cavani.
The Amsterdam giants’ manager Erik ten Hag must be impressed with what he’s seeing, and he’s the favourite to take over at the United dugout this summer.
However, Arsenal are also determined to land the £42million-rated Netherlands international.
Recent reports even suggested that the Gunners are favourites to price the 22-year-old away from the Philips Stadion.
    Mason Greenwood’s status revealed
Man United have insisted there has been no change to the status of Mason Greenwood at the club.
The 20-year-old was suspended back in January after being arrested by police in connection with the rape and assault of a young woman.
He has since been released on bail, with the club stating at the time that he would not be available until further notice.
However, some fans recently found that Greenwood was still visible on the club website – leading some to speculate that he could be reinstated.
This has forced Man Utd to release a statement on the matter.
It read: “There has been no change whatsoever in Mason’s status.
“We removed his profile from the club app soon after he was removed from the squad in January.
“This was in order to remove Mason from interactive elements of the app, such as team predictions etc.
“However, his profile was never removed from the website as he remains a Manchester United player, albeit not currently part of the squad while the legal process unfolds.”
    Man United want Salzburg keeper
Man United are considering a move for Red Bull Salzburg keeper Philipp Kohn, according to reports, SunSport’s Steve Goodman writes.
The Swiss international has had an outstanding season to help his club top the Austrian Bundesliga.
And current Old Trafford boss Ralf Rangnick knows the 23-year-old well, having signed him for RB Leipzig in 2017.
Kohn has kept 13 clean sheets this season, enabling minnows Salzburg to reach the Champions League last 16.
United scouts have checked on him several times, including three weeks ago – when he impressed despite Salzburg ‘s 7-1 defeat at Bayern Munich.
The Red Devils are seeking back-up for David de Gea next season, with none of Lee Grant, Tom Heaton or Dean Henderson certain to land the understudy role.
    Fans think Pogba’s staying put
Man United supporters believe the club have dropped a huge hint that Paul Pogba will stay at the club.
The Red Devils announced their pre-season plans earlier today with the headline match set to be against Liverpool in Bangkok on July 12.
They will then head Down Under to Australia to take on Melbourne Victory and Crystal Palace at Melbourne Cricket Ground on July 15 and July 19 respectively.
However, despite his uncertain future, many United fans think today’s announcement is a clue that the midfielder will be staying put.
One replied to the post with: “Why is Pogba on the poster of the pre season tour??
Is there something they hiding from the fans coz if he doesn’t resign then he won’t be at the club come the tour.”
Another wrote: “Pogba is on the poster for the Pre-Season Tour ? hmmmm interesting.”
While a fellow fan commented: “So @paulpogba is on the cover of this pre-season tour poster. Is this a sign that he’s staying?”
    How United can help Maguire
Man United need to bring in better plays to help Harry Maguire grow, Jaap Stam claims.
He told bettingexpert: “I still think that he can do a lot better than what he’s been showing now. And I’m not saying he played very poorly but he has got the ability to improve.”
“And if you bring in players of a certain quality or bring players in of a certain value, then you need to help this player out as well, to become a better player.
“I’m not sure that this is happening.”
    Matic on United’s team spirit
Nemanja Matic has admitted that the dressing room atmosphere at Manchester United is “not fantastic” amid their current struggles.
Quizzed about the mood in the camp heading into the run in, Matic admitted that things aren’t going well.
The Serbian, 33, told talkSPORT: “The atmosphere? It depends on results.
“Of course, when you have good results the atmosphere is much better and everyone is happy.
“As you know we are not in the best position in the league and the atmosphere is not fantastic, but we have to stay positive and believe until the end because we want to finish in that top-four.
“The atmosphere in our dressing room will depend on that. If we finish top-four then it will be good for us, everyone will be… I cannot say happy, but satisfied.
“If we don’t make that, it will be a very sad dressing room.”
    Maguire has face-off with truck
Harry Maguire was held up on his return to Manchester United training.. by a massive truck!
As if the England defender, 29, hadn’t had a difficult enough week, he couldn’t even make it to Carrington without some drama.
On his return to the Aon Training Complex following his return from international duty on Thursday, Maguire was delayed by an advancing lorry.
As Maguire drove his Range Rover towards the gates, a massive truck trundled towards him down the single-track road.
Maguire was forced to pull over to the side of the road to allow it to pass before finally making it to the safety of Carrington.

    Rud not to
Man United’s hopes of signing Antonio Rudiger have been dealt a huge blow after the Chelsea defender’s agent was spotted meeting Barcelona’s representatives.
The 29-year-old’s representatives are reported to have held “secret talks” with Barca chiefs on Wednesday night.
Reports from Sky in Germany claim the two parties had a three-hour long meeting in the plush 5-star “The Barcelona Edition” hotel in Spain.
The LaLiga side are said to be keen on signing Rudiger on a free transfer this summer.

    Stam: Maguire’s a scapegoat
Jaap Stam thinks Harry Maguire is a scapegoat after the Man United star was booed on England duty.
He told Betting Expert: “He’s an easy target because it’s easy to say that he is making mistakes or wrong choices.
“Everybody, even when I played, I made mistakes, I made wrong choices as well.
“I think he also needs to have help from his teammates. He also needs to have the confidence of people around him and they will have for him. But also from outside as well, so he can make these steps.”
    Carragher’s advice for Maguire
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher reckons Maguire is best to just “get on with it” after being jeered by Three Lions fans.
He wrote on Twitter: “Harry’s biggest problem is not England fans, it’s his performances & future at Man Utd.
“He’s not the first person to be booed by a few [clown emoji] & won’t be the last so get on with it! Show some character, perform well & shut people up!!”
Adding in his Telegraph column, Carragher referenced former England stars who had also been booed on national team duty, but hit back with “world-class” performances at club level.
    Barnes on Maguire
There’s no chance of Harry Maguire leaving Man United to join Tottenham, according to John Barnes.
Barnes said to BonusCodeBets: “Harry Maguire will not be leaving Manchester United to go to a club that plays a back three like Tottenham. That’s a nonstarter.
“Maguire has played in back fours for the majority of his career and including for England.
“I don’t believe he [Maguire] plays better in a back three than a back four.
“When England played with a back four, he played well. His form has nothing to do with that.
“It is all to do with the protection he gets from the hard-working England players in front of him, whereas at United the front four don’t work hard enough to protect the defence.”
    Neville praises Chelsea
Gary Neville has praised Chelsea for managing to get good results on the pitch in spite of the chaos surrounding the club.
The Man United legend said on Sky Sports: “Firstly for the players and the manager, they have done unbelievably well in the last few weeks to carry on as they have done in winning all the games.
“That’s the first thing to say with the disruption and distraction that has gone on in the club.
“So, it tells you that when you have got a real strong manager and strong changing room which Chelsea have, you can withstand all the stuff that is going on externally and outside.”
Mills blames Keane for Maguire backlash
Danny Mills believes that “vicious” Roy Keane’s comments are partly to blame for fans booing Harry Maguire.
The former England right-back told talkSPORT: “Roy Keane has massive influence, unbelievable.
“Roy Keane says it, it’s gospel. I think when Roy Keane speaks we all sit up and listen.
“I think he’s got huge gravitas in the game, for what he’s achieved, for what he’s done and everything he’s gone through and achieved in the game.
“You do have to listen but he can be particularly vicious at times.
“No matter how he’s played, if Roy Keane says he’s had an absolute shocker and it’s disgraceful and he’s had a stinker we all go ‘well, he has done’, even without watching the game ourselves and going through it.
“We listen because it’s Roy Keane and he’s spoken so without seeing it as ourselves we take his opinion as gospel. Maybe we shouldn’t do that.”
    United and Liverpool clash set
Man United will take on bitter rivals Liverpool in Bangkok as part of a pre-season tour.
The game for the Centenary Cup will take place on July 12 at the Rajamangala stadium in the Thai capital.
The Red Devils will then fly to Australia for their first visit to Melbourne since 1999.
They will play at the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground against local A-League team Melbourne Victory on July 15, and then Crystal Palace on July 19.
    Quieroz quits as Egypt boss
Carlos Queiroz has resigned as Egypt boss after failing to lead the African nation into the World Cup in Qatar this winter.
The Man United coach wrote on Twitter: “Dream is over. From the bottom of my heart, my gratitude to Egypt Federation for this honour of coaching the National Team.
“To all my players and my staff, my recognition and humble thank you so much,’ he added. ‘You will be always in my heart.
“It was my privilege to work and be helped by such dedicated and capable professionals and wonderful friends.
“Without you, nothing could be possible for me in my life, I am very much proud of you lads.
“My best wishes and enormous gratitude to all Egyptian fans. To the future.”
    Ron more record broken
Cristiano Ronaldo can break ANOTHER goal scoring record at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
The 37-year-old is playing in his fifth World Cup having first been selected to represent Portugal in 2006.
And Ronaldo has scored in the four World Cups he has played in so far, putting him level with a select few football legends.
He is level with Pele, Uwe Seeler and Miroslav Klose, who have also scored at four separate World Cups.
This year, Ronaldo could make more history by becoming the first player to score in five editions of the tournament.
Ronaldo will also become just the fourth player to feature at five or more World Cups.
    Gary Neville on Arteta
Gary Neville has declared his admiration for Mikel Arteta but fears fourth spot in the Prem is the highest place he can take the North London side.
Speaking at a Sky Sports fan debate, he said: “I really like Mikel Arteta, I think he’s a brilliant coach. I think the team is fantastic in terms of the young players they’ve got.
“But it’s interesting when you’re in a cycle of a club and you depress the ambition and have a significant period of failure because you then get really happy about finishing fourth.
“I found myself saying that about Manchester United. But it’s because of a depressed ambition.
“I think Mikel Arteta is a good operator. My concern is if Arsenal finish fourth this season – which to be fair, I think is 50/50, I still think there’s a long way to in that race – but if they finish fourth, that’s in some ways as good as it gets.
“You’ve got Pep [Guardiola], [Jurgen] Klopp, Man United, Chelsea, where can Arsenal go? They’re not going to compete.”
    Man United are digital kings
Man United may be struggling to reach their previous heights on the pitch, but they have the biggest digital value in the world.
A new report into the digital value of fans shows the Old Trafford side are still a commercial powerhouse.
Researchers at Horizm found that Man Utd can create £177.5million from their audience across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok and YouTube.
That was £27m more than Catalan giants Barcelona in second place (£150m) with Real Madrid a distant third on £97m.
The El Clasico rivals both have a bigger following than Man Utd.
Real Madrid’s total audience is 282million with Barcelona on 278m and the Red Devils on 179m.

    Gakpo to the Prem?
Man United have been linked with a summer move for PSV attacker Cody Gakpo.
The Red Devils need a replacement for the outgoing Edinson Cavani whose contract expires next season.
Plus, they’ll need a new hitman to provide the goals when Cristiano Ronaldo likely leaves the club the following season.
And according to Manchester Evening News, Gakpo could be the man to fill the void left by the pair.
Ajax boss Erik ten Hag whose in the frame to become United’s new manager could play a key role in recruiting Gakpo who has scored 16 goals and provided 15 assists this season.
However, Arsenal are also keen on the hot-shot striker.
‘Rice’s on Keane and Gerrard’s level’
Paul Ince has compared Man United transfer target Declan Rice to Steven Gerrard and Roy Keane.
Speaking after Rice’s dominant display for England against Ivory Coast this week, Ince said: “He’s got leadership qualities. Even the way he talks in interviews, you can see he has desires to be one of the best players in the world. You can see his game developing at West Ham.
“He’s now driving with the ball, making things happen. We talk about the [Steven] Gerrards, Keanes – box-to-box players. This kid is on the same level.”
    Gary Neville wants Glazers gone
Gary Neville has once again called on the Glazers to SELL Manchester United.
He said on the Overlap show: “They’ve proven they can’t do it, they’ve proven they can’t build a successful football club here in Manchester without being propped up by the team Sir Alex Ferguson had and himself being there.
“To me, at this moment in time, the first thing that should happen is they should sell the club.
“Because of the Super League, because of their ten years of failure without Sir Alex Ferguson, and the team and the squad he had, I think they should go.”
    Morning, United fans
United have already talked terms with Ajax for boss Erik ten Hag – but have suffered two transfer blows.
That’s the main gossip around Old Trafford this morning as Dutchman Ten Hag becomes an even firm favourite for the manager’s job this summer. The Red Devils reportedly face an increasingly tough task if they hope to land Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araujo and Benfica striker Darwin Nunez. But as United prepare for Saturday’s Premier League return at home to Leicester, the focus remains on the hunt to replace interim chief Ralf Rangnick.
It’s claimed the Red Devils have discussed finances and even a possible announcement date with Ajax over Ten Hag.
Publicly United insist their search for a permanent boss is still open.
But SunSport revealed Ten Hag came out way on top after the Old Trafford chiefs assessed detailed dossiers on all the candidates.
PSG’s Mauricio Pochettino is regarded as his only serious rival, although there was speculation yesterday over an outside contender – Spain chief Luis Enrique.
Meanwhile, Barcelona believe they can persuade Araujo to sort out his contract issues and stay.
And fellow Uruguayan Nunez, rated at £68m, is said to want a move only to a Champions League club.
Arsenal are also keen – so that’s another reason why United will hope to overhaul the Gunners for a top-four finish.
Finally, ex-England defender Jamie Carragher Has told Harry Maguire his main problem is his erratic United form for United, not the booing he received from some England fans.
Red Devils ‘sorting out Ten Hag compensation’
Manchester United have reportedly sounded out the compensation fee needed to prise Ajax boss Erik ten Hag away from the Johan Cruyff Arena, writes JAKE LAMBOURNE.
SunSport understands the Dutchman is the favourite to succeed interim Ralf Rangnick at Old Trafford at the end of the season..
The 52-year-old was interviewed for the United job last week, though no offer has yet been sent to Ten Hag.
United’s failure to offer him a contract is said to have shocked the ex-FC Twente centre-back.
But according to Sky Sports, United have been gathering information as to what compensation figure Ajax would be seeking to part ways with Ten Hag.
They state that sources close to Ajax and Ten Hag have suggested that dialogue has taken place over the financial element of a potential move to Old Trafford.

Van de Beek offers to rent home for Ukraine refugees
Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek has offered to rent a house for Ukraine refugees as they flee the deadly Russian invasion.
Van de Beek, 24, is on loan at Everton and reportedly keen to make the deal a permanent one.
The Dutchman is due back at Old Trafford in the summer, with three years still to run on his Red Devils contract.

Toffees team-mate Vitaliy Mykolenko told UA Tribuna of Van de Beek’s generous offer.
The Ukrainian said: “Donny van de Beek, a world-class player, approaches me and says: ‘I want to rent a house for people, whether in the Netherlands or in Poland.
‘We will take them from the border, settle them, pay for it'”.
Mykolenko joined in January from Dynamo Kyiv and has played six games, including the FA Cup fifth-round tie against Boreham Wood where he was named captain.
He has made 21 appearances for his country and is “grateful” for all the support he has been shown at the Merseyside club since the devastating war began.
The 22-year-old said: “I don’t know how to thank these people. Everyone came up and asked how my family was, my friends.
“On the second day the head coach came up and said: ‘if you need a rest, if you need time, take your time’. I am grateful to the club for its support from all sides.
“The administrator in charge of the equipment said: ‘I know what your situation is. I understand how difficult it is for you. Come to us for dinner’.
“A physiotherapist came up and said: ‘I have a room, a bed for two people. Those who have nowhere to live, we are ready to shelter them’. I am pleasantly shocked. Honestly I’m shocked”.
Grealish: Jude much better than me at 18
Jack Grealish heaped praise on England team-mate Jude Bellingham after the teenager put in a Three Lions masterclass.
Bellingham, 18, scooped the Player of the Match award for his performance in the 3-0 friendly win over Ivory Coast on Tuesday.
One person though who was particularly impressed by the youngster was Manchester City ace Grealish.
‘I was nowhere near that good at 18, I was at Notts County’ – Grealish lauds Jude Bellingham after England masterclass
The £100million man labelled Bellingham as “scary” good, and praised the ex-Birmingham City midfielder for boasting maturity beyond his years.
Grealish gushed: “I haven’t actually (played with a teenager who is that good). It is scary how good he is at 18. He is just so mature. He is built like he is my age at 26. He has so much technical ability and he is mature for his age.”
He went on to joke that Bellingham is streets ahead of where he was in terms of talent at 18-years-old.
He continued: “I can tell you one thing, I was nowhere near as good at 18. I was at Notts County (on loan from Villa) and I was a scrawny little thing as well.
“You see talented 18 or 19-year-old kids but not many are that mature as he is on the pitch. He is so versatile and can play in many different positions on the pitch.
“He can be a six, eight or a 10. It was good to play with him and I think it was my first time playing with him. It is nice to play with a fellow Brummie.”
    ‘Entering Suarez zone’
Luis Suarez spookily predicted his World Cup qualifying brilliance all the way back in NOVEMBER, writes DYLAN TERRY.
The former Liverpool and Barcelona forward scored the opening goal in Uruguay’s crucial 2-0 win over Chile on Tuesday – netting a beautiful overhead kick.
Federico Valverde also struck late on to secure Uruguay’s place in Qatar in the final round of fixtures.

And Suarez’s goal broke a record held by Lionel Messi as he became the all-time top scorer in South American World Cup qualifiers.
He has now netted 29 times in CONMEBOL qualifying, leapfrogging Messi’s tally of 28.
And his recent impressive form – three goals in four games for Uruguay – was something Suarez remarkably said would happen months ago.
After they successfully qualified for the World Cup, Suarez’s agent Martin Rodriguez shared a screenshot of a message from the player back on November 18 – when Uruguay were SEVENTH in the South American table. And it read: “We are entering SUAREZ ZONE.”
Rodriguez replied with laughing emojis before adding: “After we qualify, I will make them viral.”
Just four months later, Uruguay have finished third and are heading to the finals alongside Brazil, Argentina and Ecuador.

Wales’ Joe Morrell has become a co-owner of Southern League Premier side Merthyr Town.

But Merthyr, who have been fan-owned since 2010 when Merthyr Tydfil FC went into liquidation, tweeted on Wednesday night that Morrell is one of their 180 co-owners.
Merthyr tweeted: “We are delighted that Joe Morrell is now officially an owner of Merthyr Town FC.
“Joe became an owner earlier this week, and has joined our fan-ownership model with over 180 owners currently.”

Dortmund tip Erling to go if £100m bid comes in
Erling Haaland will leave Borussia Dortmund this summer if a significant offer is made, according to the club’s CEO.
The Manchester City, United, Real Madrid and Barcelona target is one of the most sought after strikers in Europe.

The goal machine has been on top form this season, with 29 goal contributions in 23 games.
City are reportedly “very optimistic” about striking a deal with the German side for Haaland and would expect to pay around £100million.
And Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has admitted that the club will not be able to keep him if a big money offer is made.
Hammers tipped to keep Utd & Chelsea target Rice
West Ham legend Julian Dicks believes “level-headed” Declan Rice will stay at the club this summer IF investment is made in the squad, writes JOSHUA MBU.
Mainstay England international Rice is attracting interest from a number of the Premier League’s elite.
Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City are reportedly all keeping an eye on the midfielder’s progress.

The 23-year-old’s defensive capabilities as well as his ball-playing qualities has made him one of the most highly sought-after players in the league.
But if one of the Big Six are to get their hands on Rice this summer, they’ll have to pay West Ham’s deterrent demand of £150million.
There is also a chance Rice stays at West Ham beyond this summer if David Moyes is backed in the transfer market. And Hammers icon Dicks says the club need to match Rice’s ambition.
Speaking to SunSport on how West Ham can keep Rice ahead of a Masters Football event in association with Bookmakers.com, Dicks said: “If they have ambition, then they need to keep their best players.
“Obviously Declan’s the best player there, he’s captain, but they have to invest in the team
“It’s no good expecting Declan to stay at West Ham if they’re not going to invest. They need to spend, probably around £100m-plus to keep him there because football now is not about making money – they earn enough now.”
    Dirk hails Utd target Erik
Erik ten Hag has the tools to succeed as Manchester United manager, according to former Liverpool star Dirk Kuyt.
Speaking to Goal, he said: “Ten Hag is a great, experienced coach. He’s done his apprenticeship, if you like, with Bayern Munich’s second team, then Utrecht and now at Ajax.
“He is a great manager who has improved himself so much, on and off the pitch.
‘I know some people were doubting his level of speaking English, his performance in front of the camera.
“But you see him growing every week as a manager, and I think he can do a great job at any top side in Europe.
“His tactics, his way of thinking about football, is very interesting, and it would be great if he was to get an opportunity at a top side.”
Egypt complain about racism and lasers
Egypt have made an official complaint against Senegal after claiming their team faced racism and “terrorised” from home fans in Dakar.
Sadio Mane’s shootout penalty sealed Senegal’s World Cup place, with his Liverpool team-mate Mo Salah missing for Egypt.
Salah was one of several visiting players enduring green laser pointers in the shootout. And the Egypt team bus was reportedly attacked too.

The Egyptian Football Association [EFA] said: “The Egyptian team was subjected to racism after the appearance of offensive banners in the stands aimed at the players, specifically Mohamed Salah.
“Moreover the Senegalese fans terrorised the Egyptian players by throwing bottles and stones at them during the warm-up, as well as attacking the Egyptian team bus, which caused glass shattering and some injuries, which was documented with pictures and videos attached to the complaint.”
Augustin Senghor, President of the Senegalese Federation and vice-president of CAF, insisted he saw nothing wrong.
He said: “From the stands, I didn’t pay attention to the projectiles thrown.
“About the lasers, if it happened this is a first in Senegal. But we know that in Cairo there were a lot of these and [they are used] often in specific countries. Senegal isn’t used to that.
“In my opinion, I didn’t see during this game something that could be considered as chauvinism because the Senegalese are known to be very welcoming.”
    Prem set for five subs
Premier League clubs are set to finally agree to introduce five substitutes at a meeting today.
The idea had been fiercely resisted by clubs outside the Big Six.
Three attempts to make the change, introduced for the resumption of the Covid-interrupted 2019-20 season, to part of the formal Prem rulebook, were defeated by a rebellion of the smaller clubs.

But after football’s lawmakers, the International Football Association Board, confirmed a permanent adoption of five substitutes from June 1, another vote will be held by the 20 clubs today.
And Prem chiefs expect the proposal to be accepted in principle to be formally adopted for next season at the annual general meeting in June.
A key factor in the U-turn is the support for the idea from players, captains and managers who agreed that player fatigue was an issue that needed to be addressed.
    Fifa unveil World Cup ball
Fifa have officially unveiled the ball that will be used during the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
Harry Kane and Co will have adidas’ “Al Rihla” ball at their feet as they bid to bring football home for the first time since 1966.
The Arabic name Al Rihla translates to “the journey” in English, and the final product is the culmination of lengthy testing in adidas’ laboratories.
It has been inspired by the national flag of host nation Qatar, as well as “iconic boats” and culture of the country.
Perhaps suiting Gareth Southgate’s attacking young stars, the ball has been promised by FIFA to “travel faster in flight than any ball in the tournament’s history”.

Ten Hag gets praise from Kuyt
Erik ten Hag has the tools to succeed as Manchester United manager, according to former Liverpool star Dirk Kuyt.

Norwegian manufacturer Stokke AS markets them online to future parents as beds that “evolve as your child grows” and boast they offer “maximum air circulation for comfortable sleep.”
The company adds: “Its distinctive oval shape provides your baby with a sense of security by creating a cosy nest-like environment.”

    Martin Odegaard wows fans
Martin Odegaard has impressed Arsenal fans once again after displaying some incredible skill during Norway’s international friendly against Armenia.
The midfielder was on the pitch for the full 90 minutes as Norway saw off their opponents in a 9-0 thrashing.
Odegaard stood up to take a short throw before receiving the ball back, nutmegging Gevorg Ghazaryan and tricking two other defenders with great skill.
Not only were fans in the Ullevaal Stadion impressed by what they saw, people went crazy for the video when it emerged on Twitter.
One person said: “Man, that was filthy.”

And new footage shows objects being hurled at the Liverpool superstar as he made his way to safety.

    San Marino end losing streak
San Marino Under-21s ended a SEVEN-YEAR losing streak last night.
The European minnows went into their clash with Latvia having lost their last 35 matches, dating back to June 2015.
Expectations were obviously low for their Uefa Under-21 Championship qualifier against the Latvians in Serraville.
But the Sammarinese managed to pull off an unlikely upset.
Coached by Italian Matteo Cecchetti, San Marino managed to come away with a spirited 0-0 draw.
The underdogs had lost the reverse fixture 2-0 last year, so managed to grab a crumb of revenge here.
    Pain of Algeria boss
Algeria manager Djamel Belmadi was left crumpled on the ground with his head in his hands after his side failed to reach the World Cup in heartbreaking style.
Cameroon made the World Cup this winter instead after winning on away goals.
Players slumped to the turf, many crying their eyes out. Belmadi, 46, was overcome with emotion and collapsed on the sidelines.
Speaking after the game, he said: “We were only 10 seconds away from the World Cup. We collapsed.
“We put our lives on hold for this match and this success and we only had qualification on our minds.
“It is going to be hard to get through the next days.”

    Van der Vaart slams Wijnaldum
Ex-Holland international Rafael van der Vaart has slammed PSG midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum for his decision to leave Liverpool last summer.
He then joined PSG on a free transfer but it has not worked out so far for the Holland international.
His poor form has led fellow Dutch midfielder Steven Berghuis to move ahead of him in the national team pecking order.
And compatriot Van der Vaart hopes Wijnaldum now recognises that he made the wrong decision to join PSG.
The ex-Tottenham man said: “Wijnaldum made a mistake in choosing PSG, while Berghuis made an excellent choice choosing to move from Feyenoord to Ajax.
“Now Georgino will understand why making the right choice is so important.”
    Harry Kane defends Maguire
Harry Kane is the latest England star to slam fans who booed Harry Maguire before and during the friendly win over the Ivory Coast.
Now captain Kane has followed team-mates Jordan Henderson and Declan Rice in blasting sections of home support who lambasted the centre-half.
The Tottenham striker tweeted: “We’ve worked hard to rebuild our connection with @England fans in the last few years so to hear @HarryMaguire93 booed at Wembley before kick off was just not right.
“The fact that he’s been brilliant on the pitch and given us all so many great memories makes it even harder to understand.
“He doesn’t deserve that reception. He’s got full support in the changing room and should have the same from every England fan.”
    Saliba praises Guendozi
Arsenal defender William Saliba congratulated Matteo Guendouzi who scored his first goal for France during the international break.

Fans stormed the pitch at the Abuja National Stadium after Nigeria failed to qualify for this year’s tournament – smashing up their own arena in shocking scenes.
Then on Wednesday morning the Zambian FA confirmed Doctor Joseph Kabungo, who was acting as a doping officer at the game for the Confederation of African Football, had passed away while working.
A statement said: “The Football Association of Zambia joins the rest of the football family in mourning the late Dr Joseph Kabungo.
“Dr Kabungo, a CAF/FIFA medical officer was on duty in Abuja for the second leg, the final qualifying match between Nigeria and Ghana that ended 1-1.”
    Newcastle transfer plan without supremo
Newcastle want to strengthen FIVE positions this summer – but will have to do so without incoming sporting director Dan Ashworth, reports claim.
Eddie Howe’s side want to strengthen by signing a new goalkeeper, centre-back, central midfielder, winger and striker.
The window will not be overseen by Ashworth, however, who is currently on gardening leave at Brighton.
Ashworth, 51, resigned from his position at the Amex last month and has been on gardening leave ever since.
The Mail claim that talks are ongoing between Newcastle and the Seagulls to allow him to move north ASAP – but talks require significant progress.
    Rudiger’s transfer plans
Man United’s next manager choice could be critical in the club’s drive to recruit Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger.
It’s been reported that the wantaway Chelsea star wants to speak to the new United boss before deciding if he should make a move to West London, according to transfer expert Christian Falk.
Rudiger’s a free agent in the summer and has been linked with several big European clubs including the Red Devils.

RED BULL LEIPZIG star Christopher Nkunku could be heading to the Allianz instead of Old Trafford this summer. The in-form striker was reportedly being watched by Manchester United, but he could be on his way to Bayern Munich if they fail to tie down Serge Gnabry to a new deal.

The 22-year-old said: “I don’t know how to thank these people. Everyone came up and asked how my family was, my friends.
“On the second day the head coach came up and said: ‘if you need a rest, if you need time, take your time’. I am grateful to the club for its support from all sides.

But according to The Times, insiders involved with the bidders are fuming that the scales appear to be tipped in favour of the Ricketts’ family.

An insider told The Times: “Why has Bruce helped Ricketts to organise this meeting. It’s a joke. He’s actually helping them to cleanse their reputation when we have all been told we can’t speak to the Chelsea executive until we have the opportunity to meet them next week.
“We see it as a breach of the rules of the process; a failure to follow the instructions.”

Investigative journalist Christo Grozev, who led research into the incident, revealed in a recent interview: “All the experts studied their photographs and carried out personal examinations. [They] all said this was not a coincidence, not food poisoning, not an allergy.

And Huddleston said: “We’ve got to be careful of making sure there isn’t any incremental new revenue generation.”
“We have had constant dialogue with Chelsea fans because the whole strategy throughout is to be very, very clear that Roman Abramovich has been sanctioned and that has clearly had implication.
“I was very honest and open with the Chelsea fans saying ‘this will have an impact because he has been sanctioned and he is the owner of the club’.

But the Belgium playmaker is surely unlikely to be ready for next Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final first leg.
Real said the 31-year-old had a plate removed in his right calf on Tuesday.
But injuries have already reduced his LaLiga season to just eight appearances as his plight in Spain continues.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti seemingly rates even a fully-fit Hazard only as back-up to Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo.
And he sparked controversy, as well as anger from Real fans, when Chelsea KO’d the Spanish giants in the Champions League semi-finals last year.
Hazard joked with former team-mate Kurt Zouma after a 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge put eventual tournament winners Chelsea through 3-1 on aggregate.
Apologising after a backlash, he said: “I am sorry. I have read lots of opinions about me and it was not my intention to offend Real fans.
“It has always been my dream to play for Real Madrid and I came here to win.”
But he is struggling to play a major part for the runaway LaLiga leaders this campaign.
    Chelsea’s next five
Chelsea’s next five fixtures see the return of Champion League football as the Blues face Real Madrid in the quarter-finals.
Wedged between these two legs is a tricky trip to St Mary’s Stadium to face Southampton.

Christensen trains ahead of Brentford clash
Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen was spotted for the first time since Barcelona’s shock transfer announcement as the Blues returned to training, writes DYLAN TERRY.
The Danish centre-back was all but confirmed by Barca president Joan Laporta this week as one of two signings the Catalan giants have completed for the summer.
Laporta told RAC1: “We’ve completed two signings for next season.
“One is a midfielder, the other one is a centre-back. But I’m not allowed to mention their names.”
    Credit: Twitter
AC Milan star Franck Kessie is thought to be the other player.
Yet despite Christensen dropping down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and his contract expiring in the summer, he was back in training with the squad on Tuesday following the international break.
He was not included in the Denmark squad for their games against Holland and Serbia due to a muscle problem.
However, he now appears to be back in contention ahead of their Premier League clash at home to Brentford on Saturday.
    Happy Birthday N’Golo
France star N’Golo Kante displayed his classic humility after he was presented with a birthday cake by his international team-mates, writes JOHN HUTCHINSON.
The Chelsea midfielder is celebrating his 31st – and had a cake that appeared to be made of fresh fruit wheeled out.

His team-mates sang happy birthday for Kante, who appeared mesmerised by the special gift.
Two sparklers were plonked into the dessert.
Kante stood up to thanks the room for the tasty offering, before adding: “Hopefully we can celebrate with a good match and nice win tonight.”
Les Blues were scheduled to play South Africa in a friendly on Tuesday night.
Kante being humble will come as no surprise to Blues fans.
    Werner ready to walk
Chelsea striker Timo Werner is reportedly ready to QUIT the club – but it will take a £33million bid to snare him.
The 26-year-old has been in and out of the team this season following the £97.5m signing of Romelu Lukaku, writes JOHN HUTCHINSON.
Neither have really impressed so far for Thomas Tuchel’s side this season.
And according to German website Sport 1, Werner is ready to leave Stamford Bridge.
    Credit: Getty
The former RB Leipzig star has had discussions with his adviser Volker Struth on plans “to leave London”.
Werner has recently admitted that Germany’s tactics suit him better than Tuchel’s at Chelsea.
The goal-shy forward netted a rare effort against Israel at the weekend as Hansi Flick’s side ran out 2-0 winners.
Werner has surprisingly scored six goals in his last six caps – compared to none in his last eight Premier League outings for Chelsea.
Asked about this quirk, the former RB Leipzig ace said: “There are differences in the style of play between football at Chelsea and here.
“Maybe the one at the national team suits me better.
“Here, I always have scoring chances, I can score goals.
    “I feel very comfortable here.”
Werner has scored seven times in 28 appearances for Chelsea this season, with only one goal coming in the Prem.
    Ampadu the ‘Nutmeg King’
Chelsea’s Ethan Ampadu is the nutmeg king – the Wales star, who is on a season-long loan at Serie A club Venezia, megged Chris Mepham THREE times in training on Monday.
Ampadu’s skill had his Welsh team-mates roaring with laughter as they prepared for tonight’s friendly against the Czech Republic.
The megs came as Robert Page’s squad went into rondos of nine players – seven on the outside with two in the middle – which is seen as a fun warm-up exercise.
    Credit: Rex
And that’s where Bournemouth centre-back Mepham got caught out by a cheeky treble from Ampadu when he placed the ball through his legs.
Ampadu, 21, posted a video of his silky skills on his Instagram page with the caption “X3” followed by a nuts emoji and green tick.
Wales team-mates joined in the ribbing of Mepham with David Brooks, a pal for club and country but currently recovering from blood cancer, tagged the defender and posted: “Is that you?”
Mepham jokingly denied being megged and replied: “Obviously not”.
But Harry Wilson, Neco Williams and Dan James all piled in to join the banter.
Ampadu has made 23 appearances for Venezia in Italy this season.
It is not known what future plans Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has for versatile Amapdu at Stamford Bridge next term.
    Canoville meets Ricketts
Chelsea’s first black player, Paul Canoville, has emerged as a key figure in the sale of the club.
Last Thursday, Canoville held hour-long meeting at Stamford Bridge with controversial potential buyer Tom Ricketts, according to the Mirror.
Ricketts is trying to calm Chelsea fans’ fears over racism and anti Muslim issues.
Canoville said: “As the club’s official ambassador on racism – I was grateful to be asked for my views on the sale.
“I was pleased to meet with Mr Ricketts and expressed my concerns over some of his family’s members‘ public statements.
“I was reassured by his response.”
Declan Rice tipped for England captaincy
West Ham legend Julian Dicks says he would be “very surprised” if Chelsea target Declan Rice doesn’t captain England in the future.
Dicks was a Hammers coach under Slaven Bilic when a then 18-year-old Rice was handed his Premier League debut in the 2-1 win over Burnley in 2017.
Rice’s exemplary leadership both on and off the pitch has stretched further than just Rush Green and the London Stadium.
Hammers icon Dicks too believes that Rice’s day of leading the Three Lions will come.
Speaking to SunSport on whether he thinks Rice will be a future England captain ahead of a Masters Football event in association with Bookmakers.com, Dicks said: “Absolutely. I was a coach at West Ham when Slav gave him his debut.
“The easiest thing I can say about Declan is he just keeps everything simple.
“He wins the ball and gives it simple.
“I did the Man Utd vs West Ham game at Old Trafford (this season).
“And even though West Ham got beat, Declan was immense, and I mean head and shoulders above everybody else on that pitch, in my opinion.
“He won every ball. Where the ball was he won it and he’d just give it.
“So yeah, I’d be very surprised if he wasn’t an England captain in the future.”

    To be continued…
That’s the end of the scheduled South American World Cup qualifying calendar and all the teams into the World Cup and the play-offs are known.
Congratulations to Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Ecuador and Peru.
However, there is still one fixture of South American World Cup qualifying left, ironically between two sides who qualified months ago.
Leaders Brazil face second placed Argentina at a date, time and venue yet to be confirmed.
That’s because the original match was postponed due to the Brazilian Health Authorities invading the pitch to deport four Argentina stars for breaching Covid quarantine regulations.
Brazil’s rescheduled match against Argentina is still to be played
    Record breaker
Lionel Messi has enjoyed a fantastic qualifying campaign with Argentina.
But his goal record in South American World Cup qualifiers has been broken by none other than ex-Barcelona team-mate and close friend Luis Suarez.
Suarez’s brilliant overhead kick for Uruguay in Chile means he is now out on his own as the all-time record scorer in South American World Cup qualifying.
Luis Suarez is the all-time top scorer in South American World Cup qualifiers
    Gift of the gab
Arsenal fans will be loving what they’re seeing from Gabriel Martinelli.
Shades of Dennis Bergkamp in the way he turns his way through the Bolivia defence. Only the finish is lacking.

    Record breakers
Argentina equal their longest ever unbeaten streak – 31 straight games.
But it’s still not enough for them to top the group.
Brazil end up in top spot with 45 points from just 17 games.
Argentina now undefeated in 31 matches. Their longest undefeated streak ever which equals their best undefeated run of 31 matches between 1991-1993. pic.twitter.com/n2zKsaW9Yz— Roy Nemer (@RoyNemer) March 30, 2022

FULL TIME: Venezuela 0 Colombia 1
James Rodriguez’s retaken penalty is enough to earn an unimpressive Colombia side their first win in Venezuela since 1996.
But it hasn’t stopped them being eliminated from the World Cup thanks to Peru’s result.
    90+5: Ecuador 1 Argentina 1
Incredible noise from the Ecuador support.
The city of Guayaquil is known for it’s passion for football but rarely gets to see the national team play as Ecuador tend to opt for the altitude of Quito.
They’re making the most of it tonight on the country’s South West coast!
FULL TIME: Peru 2 Paraguay 0
Job done extremely professionally for Ricardo Gareca’s side.
Goals from Gianluca Lapadula and Yosimar Yotun in the first half prove enough to send them to the intercontinental play-off.
They will meet Australia or the United Arab Emirates in Qatar in June.
PERU QUALIFY FOR THE WORLD CUP PLAY-OFF!
    GOAL FOR ECUADOR!
Enner Valencia sees his spot kick saved by Jeronimo Rulli.
But the Argentine goalkeeper is unbelievably unlucky as the ball falls straight at the former West Ham man’s feet.
Valencia has all the time in the world to tap home the equaliser.
A huge morale-boosting point for the Ecuadorians as they plan for Qatar.
    PENALTY TO ECUADOR!
    90: Chile 0 Uruguay 2
Federico Valverde makes the game safe for Uruguay.
Only a couple of rounds ago they were looking like missing out on the World Cup altogether.
But Diego Alonso has done a fantastic job coming in and steadying the ship following the departure of Oscar Tabarez.
FULL TIME: Bolivia 0 Brazil 4
    GOAL FOR URUGUAY!
    GOAL FOR BRAZIL!
It’s a fourth for Brazil and a second for Richarlison.
They haven’t quite climbed Everest, but they’ve conquered the altitude of La Paz with consummate ease.
    Bolivia 0 Brazil 4
    A sight for Suar eyes
Like a fine wine, Luis Suarez is getting better with age.
An incredible overhead kick to give Uruguay the lead in Chile.

    79: Venezuela 0 Colombia 1
A carnival atmosphere in Ciudad Guayana as the Mexican Wave gets started.
Both sets of fans probably starting to realise this is it for their sides.
Venezuela not looking too much like equalising and qualification for the World Cup is completely out of Colombia’s hands.
    78: Venezuela 0 Colombia 1
Venezuela’s Soteldo causing havoc again as he beats his man and fires a shot across the box.
But nobody is there to tap it in.
Colombia look like they’re heading for a first World Cup qualifying victory in Venezuela since 1996.
Not that that will provide them much comfort if Peru hold onto their 2-0 lead against Paraguay.
    75: Chile 0 Uruguay 1
The curtain is about to come down on Chile’s greatest every football era.
Started by Marcelo Bielsa back in 2007, the Chileans impressed in both the 2010 and 2014 World Cups as well as winning two Copa America trophies against Messi and Argentina.
But a goal from Uruguay’s Luis Suarez means that they will not be going to this year’s competition.
And it’s almost certainly the last time Arturo Vidal and Alexis Sanchez will be seen representing their country.
    GOAL FOR URUGUAY!
    Bearing the brun-t
It’s a pleasure to watch this Brazil team at the moment.
A beautiful volley from Bruno Guimaraes is set to make it 17 played, 14 wins, three draws and no defeats.

    60: Bolivia 0 Brazil 3
It’s a delight for Newcastle fans.
Bruno Guimaraes has bagged a goal and an assist in La Paz as Brazil head for a record-breaking campaign.
    GOAL FOR BRAZIL
    Chil-ling out
In Chile, the fans are starting to realise the game is up and have taken to applauding Arturo Vidal and Alexis Sanchez every time they touch the ball.
At 34 and 33 respectively, this is likely to be the last time the fans see either playing for their national team and they’re determined to make the most of it.
    51: Venezuela 0 Colombia 1
A good run from Yeferson Soteldo, who runs down the left and crosses for Rondon, who heads wide.
The Everton star will be very disappointed with himself if he doesn’t get a goal tonight.
    Paying the penalty
James Rodriguez’s penalty which put Colombia in front at the second attempt in Venezuela.
James Rodríguez scores at the second attempt from the spot, after the initial save was chalked off for Fariñez being off his line! 🇨🇴A big goal for Colombia but, with Peru 2-0 up, it may all be in vain 👀 pic.twitter.com/ugVuEMiI4W— FreeSports 📺 (@FreeSports_TV) March 30, 2022

    Algeria 0-1 Cameroon
    118. It looks like we are heading to another penalty shootout tonight.
With only two minutes and added time remaining, the visitors camp out in their own half to prevent Algeria scoring.
    Corner to Algeria.
    Algeria 0-1 Cameroon
    116. Algeria are surrounding the referee.
As the ball comes in the Cameroon defender bundles into the back of the Algerian.
A corner is given instead of the penalty they want.

Slimani tells the referee some home truths as they walk off the pitch.
Managers start thinking about penalty takers now.
Algeria 0-1 Cameroon – Slimani chance
    104. The ball is swung in and Slimani wins the header and heads it down low.

Unfortunately, they will have to wait a bit longer for their first World Cup appearance.
