    Signing off from Selhurst Park
That’s all from us in south London on what has been a wonderful night for Crystal Palace – but a major setback for Arsenal, and their hopes of landing Champions League football.
The Gunners will need to regroup for the challenge ahead, and perhaps they’d do well to take in the action over the next two nights for a glimpse of what’s in their grasp.
We return tomorrow for the Champions League quarter-finals with live coverage of Liverpool’s trip to Benfica, and Manchester City’s home match with Atletico Madrid.
Be sure to join us for all the drama, but until then, thanks for joining us and goodnight.
    Extra! Read all about it!
Before we sign off for this evening, why not recap on what we’ve seen at Selhurst Park with Mark Irwin’s match report of Arsenal’s 3-0 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace.
Arsenal fear that history is about to repeat itself after another Crystal Palace mauling threatens to throw a spanner into their top four dreams. Mikel Arteta could have absolutely no complaints about this setback after watching his team comprehensively outplayed by the high-flying Eagles. If only they still had a warrior like Patrick Vieira to fight their cause when the going gets tough.
    Zaha gives Gunners the runaround
Wilfried Zaha won his fitness battle to feature on Monday night, and wasted no time in tormenting a beleaguered Arsenal backline.
The Ivorian had too much pace, power and skill for Cedric in the first half, and topped his performance off by winning and then scoring a second half penalty.

    Attempts: 1
    Goals: 1
    Most duels in game: 19
Most duels won in game: 11
    Most dribbles in game: 5
    Touches in opposition box: 4
    Penalties won: 1

    Honest Arteta apologises to fans.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has admitted that his side were well second best Selhurst Park, and refused to hide from any criticism coming his or his team’s way.
Congratulations to Crystal Palace for the game they played, but we made it impossible for ourselves the way we competed.
You have to compete at this ground, you have to be physical, you have to win first and second balls, and then you earn the right to play. When we did earn it a little bit, we were really poor and inconsistent on the ball. At this level, it’s unacceptable.
I apologise to our supporters, and we take the challenge now.
First of all, we have to put our hand up and take the criticism we deserve, accept it, and tomorrow we start to prepare for the next game knowing that this is not good enough for this club.Mikel ArtetaSky Sports
    Gunners suffer seven-goal swing
How pivotal will this weekend be come the end of the season?
Arsenal appeared to have all the momentum in the race to claim fourth spot coming into April, but their crushing defeat tonight coupled with Spurs thumping of Newcastle yesterday has turned the tide.
The Gunners still have a game in hand on their rivals, but their superior goal difference has evaporated following a seven-goal swing.
Meanwhile, the Eagles have soared into the top half in what continues to be an eye-catching first season under Patrick Vieira’s management.

    Match facts from Selhurst Park
The takeaway fact from tonight’s match is that there were just two corners awarded in the 90 minutes – the joint-fewest in a Premier League game this season.
That, and Arsenal were as bad as they ever have been under Mikel Arteta.

Full time – Crystal Palace 3-0 Arsenal
It’s all over – although that could have been said after 24 minutes.
Crystal Palace have cruised to victory at Selhurst Park courtesy of goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta, Jordan Ayew and a Wilfried Zaha penalty.
Arsenal were slightly better in the second half than their abysmal showing in the first, but they will have much to ponder as they regroup for the challenge ahead.
The fallout from this one will be focused on the Gunners, but the Eagles were excellent and this night belongs to them.

    Crystal Palace 3-0 Arsenal
90+2. Granit Xhaka fires a speculative 30-yarder into the stands.
Hmmm. I might know who Arteta is annoyed with after all.
    Crystal Palace 3-0 Arsenal
    90. The board goes up to signal three minutes of stoppage time, and that’s enough to spark one last chant from the home fans in the Holmesdale End.
    Crystal Palace 3-0 Arsenal
    88. On the touchline, Mikel Arteta has a face like thunder.
I’m not sure who he’s annoyed at, if anyone in particular, but his post-match interview could be revealing.

    Crystal Palace 3-0 Arsenal
    86. A low strike from Xhaka now, one comfortably leapt on by Guaita.
If the first half was an electrifying performance from the Eagles, the second period has shown that they can execute a defensive rearguard too.
    Crystal Palace 3-0 Arsenal
    84. Off the crossbar!
Nketiah has looked lively since his introduction, which may put him in the shop window if nothing else.
He goes close to pulling one back with a beauty, his curling effort from 25 yards swerves on to the frame of the goal before bouncing to safety.
    Crystal Palace 3-0 Arsenal
    83. Arsenal are throwing everything at Crystal Palace now, and it all seems a little late in the day.
Crystal Palace 3-0 Arsenal – Xhaka yellow card.
    82. Oh, Granit Xhaka got booked and nobody told me.
    Crystal Palace 3-0 Arsenal
    80. Tremendous block by Guehi!
An Arsenal consolation looks a certainty when Guaita parries Saka’s shot into the path of Smith Rowe 15 yards from goal.
The attacking midfielder does nothing wrong either, putting his laces through the ball – only for the Palace centre-half to somehow throw himself in the way of the shot and divert it away.
Guehi celebrates as if he scored the winner. Absolutely brilliant!
    Crystal Palace 3-0 Arsenal
    78. Co-incidentally, that’s the third time in his career that Zaha has won a penalty against Arsenal. No player has been awarded more against the Gunners in Premier League history.
Crystal Palace 3-0 Arsenal – Arsenal substitution
    76. Seconds before Zaha was brought down, Partey had indicated to the bench that he was injured and couldn’t continue.
The Ghanaian has now gone off, and has been replaced Albert Sambi Lokonga.
    Crystal Palace 3-0 Arsenal
    74. Game, set and match, Crystal Palace!
Arsenal have missed a couple of big chances in the second half, and now they’ve been made to pay.
Wilfried Zaha escaped on the counter with Arsenal players hot in pursuit, and when he cut back inside, Martin Odegaard dangled out a leg.
Contact was enough to take Zaha to ground in front of referee Paul Tierney, who took a long look before pointing to the penalty spot.
The forward picked himself up, dusted himself down, and then emphatically tucked home the penalty by sending Aaron Ramsdale the wrong way.
A special night at Selhurst Park!

Goal! Wilfried Zaha scores from the spot!
    Odegaard brings down Zaha! Penalty!
Crystal Palace 2-0 Arsenal – Palace substitution
    69. The Eagles make their first change, and it’s a defensive one.
After opening the scoring, Jean-Philippe Mateta’s race is run, and on in his place is James McArthur .
Let’s see if Arsenal have forgiven the Scottish sub from launching Saka into orbit in this season’s reverse fixture.
    Crystal Palace 2-0 Arsenal
    67. Arsenal pass up another opportunity!
Nketiah is involved immediately, taking Smith Rowe’s pass in his stride and crossing low from the left for Odegaard.
The Norwegian has time to set himself, but takes his eye off the ball and scuffs wide.
Crystal Palace 2-0 Arsenal – Arsenal substitution
    66. A second change for the Gunners as striker Eddie Nketiah comes on for Cedric.
    Who needs full-backs anyway?
    Crystal Palace 2-0 Arsenal
    65. Arsenal have already been dealt one knee blow today, and this could be another.
Martinelli has taken a hefty whack following a clash of legs with Kouyate.
Fortunately, it looks more of an impact injury, and he should be able to run this off.
    Crystal Palace 2-0 Arsenal
    63. A big chance for Emile Smith Rowe!
Palace switch off for the first time this evening, and it presents Arsenal with a big opportunity to get back into this game.
Lacazette’s attempt to bundle his way into the box are partially seen off, but the ball falls invitingly for Smith Rowe.
Eight yards out, and just the goalkeeper to beat, the Arsenal man fires straight at Guaita.

Rudiger Chelsea exit LATEST, Kai Havertz to Bayern UPDATE, Brentford SHOCK reaction – takeover update

ANTONIO RUDIGER has laid out his wage demands for when his Chelsea contract expires this summer, according to reports. The 29-year-old is unlikely to sign an extension to his current deal at Stamford Bridge.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich have been urged to take revenge on Chelsea for snatching Kai Havertz away from them according to reports.
The German international decided to make the switch to Stamford bridge from Bayer Leverkusen in 2020, but Bayern can take advantage of Chelsea’s current situation and finally lure him to the Allianz.
On the pitch, Chelsea were stunned by Brentford 4-1 at Stamford Bridge this weekend, with Christian Eriksen scoring his first goal for the Bees in the win.
And keep up to date with all of the latest updates from the takeover.

    Nicol’s worry for Blues
Liverpool legend Steve Nicol believes Chelsea will be reliant upon Kai Havertz for their Champions League clash with Real Madrid.
The Blues were humbled 4-1 at home to Brentford. But Nicol believes it won’t be defensive issues that will worry them against the Spaniards, but more who will score their goals.
“Defensively, they’ll shake it off,” Nicol said on ESPN.
“I think the biggest worry is who’s scoring goals for them.
“It seems that if Havertz is not on his game, where are the goals coming from? You’ll have to rely on Ziyech coming in from the left and sticking one in the top corner.
“Because you’re not getting any goals from anywhere else particularly.
“So, I’d suggest that defensively is the least of their worries. If I were them, I’d be worried about how we’re going to score goals in this game.”
Chelsea Women cream of the crop
Chelsea’s Women overtook Arsenal at the top of the WSL with a 5-0 win over Reading.
Doubles from Sam Kerr and Bethany England and Jessie Fleming’s opener completed the rout.
The Blues now lead the Gunners by one point going into the final stages of the league.
    Barça’s plan for target
Barcelona aim to fend of interest from Premier League clubs Manchester United and Chelsea for Ronald Araujo, according to reports.
Araujo has had a breakout season for Barcelona this campaign and courted the interest of Europe’s top clubs.
And reports say the 23-year-old wants to be paid more than Barcelona are currently offering in the latest contract renewal.
According to SPORT, Barcelona must raise their offer if they have any hope of keeping one of their best assets at the club.
Last month, ESPN reported the 23-year-old earns £4.2million a year at the Nou Camp, or £80,000 a week.
    Rudiger contract
Antonio Rudiger has reportedly laid out his wage demands for when his Chelsea contract expires this summer.
The 29-year-old is unlikely to sign an extension to his current deal at Stamford Bridge.
Rudiger wants a weekly wage of £115,000 plus a signing on bonus in order to secure his services, according to Spanish outlet Sport.
Manchester United are one of a number of teams said to be interested in securing Rudiger’s services.
Recent reports suggest the German international wants to speak with the club’s next permanent manager before considering a swap to Old Trafford.
    No to European Super League
The Ricketts family are trying to win over fans with their consortium bid by insisting they would never entertain the idea of Chelsea joining a European Super League.
In a statement, they said: “We will never participate in a European Super League and always protect the integrity and heritage of Chelsea F.C.
“We will commit the resources necessary across all levels of the club to continue winning trophies, including investing in the first team, experienced football leadership and the academy.”
Their takeover bid has been met with anger by Chelsea supporters, who protested yesterday at Stamford Bridge.
    Azpilicueta rallies the troops
Cesar Azpilicueta is determined to put yesterday’s 4-1 shock defeat to Brentford behind him.
The Blues were stunned at Stamford Bridge, despite taking the lead in the game.
Speaking to the Chelsea website, Azpilicueta said: “It’s very tough, of course, because it’s not the result we were looking for,’ said Azpilicueta.
“We are disappointed, we are frustrated, but now we have to admit our mistakes and move forward.
“Of course after the international break you want to restart with a win and of course we wanted to extend the winning run as long as possible and we were not able to. But that’s the Premier League and it shows how difficult it is to do it. It’s a big loss and of course we’re really disappointed.”
He added: “We were maybe not moving the ball sharply enough. I think in the first half we didn’t start well. At the beginning of the game we lost a few balls, they had a few chances. We escaped without conceding goals, but we were not sharp enough, we didn’t have the energy that we usually have.”
    Silva’s wife blasts commentator
Thiago Silva’s wife Belle has defended her husband who was criticised for not attacking enough during Chelsea’s 4-1 defeat to Brentford on Saturday.
The Bees stunned the Blues as they put four goals past Edouard Mendy at Stamford Bridge.
And one commentator came under fire from Belle, who argued that her husband deserved more respect.
She took to Instagram to say: “I’m here in my box at Stamford Bridge. I just listened right now to the commentator, who said that Thiago Silva is not attacking enough.
“Respect Thiago Silva because Thiago Silva arrived yesterday, Thiago Silva played for Brazil, Thiago Silva is very tired, Thiago Silva is 37 years old, he plays like he is 20 years old.
“So respect him, he’s not a machine. He needs to relax, alright?”

    Kante’s milestone
Although there wasn’t much to celebrate for Chelsea fans at Stamford Bridge in their game against Brentford, a personal milestone was reached by N’golo Kante.
The Blues fell to a 4-1 defeat against Brentford, in what was the French midfielder’s 250th game for the Premier League giants.
And the club were quick to celebrate the moment on Twitter by sharing an image of the achievement.

    Tuchel’s surprise
Thomas Tuchel has admitted he was surprised when Antonio Rudiger celebrated scoring Chelsea’s only goal against Brentford with him.
Tuchel said: “I was surprised he came to me to celebrate. He was maybe surprised that the ball went in, because he tried so many times.
“But yeah, it was a nice moment. You could see how happy he is, you could see how everybody was happy with him and what it meant to him and what it meant to us.”
    Neville’s warning to Ricketts family
Gary Neville has issued a warning to the Ricketts family after Chelsea fans protested against them owning the club.
“I have to say, if I was the Ricketts family and I was getting that type of hostility on the way in… move away, move away. The fans are important. If you’re the government.
“I don’t know if it’s the government who are in charge of the bid, or Bruce Buck, or the organisation appointed by Roman Abramovich – but I would say that we have to make sure that the biggest clubs in the country.
“We’ve seen here with the Glazer family, Mike Ashley at Newcastle, it drains the life. Not just out of the club, but out of the city and everyone watching. That cannot happen at football clubs.
“It’s not just about best bids, it’s about what the fans want. The Ricketts family are trying to reach out to Chelsea fans, but they do have some historic issues that need dealing with and explaining. At this moment in time, they are not being explained very well.
“In this current light, with what’s happened with the Super League, Big Picture, Derby, Bury, what’s happened with all of these issues with Roman Abramovich and the links to Putin [something Abramovich has always denied], we have to start bringing back some sort of moral compass in determining who owns a football club.”
    Ricketts family statement
The Ricketts family, one of the frontrunners to buy Chelsea from Roman Abramovich, have vowed to never join a European Super League.
They have come under fire after leaked emails from the father of Chicago Cubs owner Tom Ricketts saw him say Muslims are ‘my natural enemy’.
But now the family have released an eight-point pledge to try and win over the support of the fans.
And among those pledges includes the promise to never join a European Super League.
Other points are around commitments on diversity, investment, club colours, the crest and Stamford Bridge.
    Rival fans love Chelsea’s DJ
Chelsea fans were left scratching their heads at the choice of song following Brentford’s shock 4-1 win.
Having just been thrashed by the Premier League newcomers, Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds filled Stamford Bridge.
But the lyrics “don’t worry about a thing, because every little thing is gonna be alright” seemed out of place.
Rival fans and even Chelsea supporters had a laugh at the strange choice of tune.
    One tweeted: “This is jokes.”
Another added: “We are even trolling ourselves.”
    Lewandowski wants Barca move
Robert Lewandowski wants to leave Bayern Munich to join Barcelona, according to reports.
The striker’s contract runs out in 2023, but Bayern are likely to cash in on him this summer.
Lewandowski is known as one of the most prolific goal scorers in the world, so there has never been any shortage of interest for his signature.
A number of clubs have been linked with a potential move including Arsenal, Chelsea, and Atletico Madrid, but Barcelona are currently the frontrunners in the transfer race.
And now, according to Spanish outlet Sport, Lewandowski has his heart set on a move to Camp Nou and will do everything in his power to make it happen.
    Chelsea’s threat assessed
Real Madrid keeper Thibaut Courtois has warned his team-mates that Chelsea are still dangerous despite their 4-1 loss to Brentford.
Real take on the Blues in the Champions League next week and Courtois is wary of the threat Thomas Tuchel’s side poses.
He said: “Chelsea lost at home and they will be very strong on Wednesday.
“We lacked intensity at times and Chelsea are very good at that.”
    Haaland race heats up
Manchester United and Chelsea were both in talks to sign Erling Haaland, reports claim.
But now Man City and Real Madrid lead the race to sign the Borussia Dortmund striker, according to SPORT.
The report also claims Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola and his father Alf-Inge met several clubs also including Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Chelsea, Juventus and Bayern Munich.
    Ricketts family backer
The Ricketts family are being backed by Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, reports suggest.
The 60-year-old who is one of America’s wealthiest men is bolstering the Ricketts’ bid with his economic power, the Independent reported.
Gilbert is reportedly worth £24billion and is the head of the Rock Entertainment Group.
The 60-year-old numbers among America’s wealthiest men, and adds yet more financial muscle to the Chicago Cubs-owning Ricketts family’s bid to buy Chelsea.
    Lukaku’s national future
Belgium boss Roberto Martinez has hinted that Romelu Lukaku’s transfer situation this summer could decide whether the Chelsea star makes the national team.
Lukaku’s been linked with a move back to Inter after expressing frustration at life with the Blues.
And Martinez said: “Romelu needs to be assessed on how he feels in September, the same way Eden Hazard does and some others. But he is one of the players for whom the summer could be a big moment for their careers.”
    Real want Kante
Real Madrid are lining up N’Golo Kante as an alternative to Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni, reports claim.
Real view Tchouameni as the ideal man to boost their midfield.
But they face stiff competition from several European clubs, and have lined up Kante as a second option, according to AS.
    Thiago Silva’s wife speaks
Thiago Silva’s wife has demanded respect for her husband after he was criticised for not attacking enough against Brentford.
She said on Instagram: “Attention viewers. I’m here in my box at Stamford Bridge. I’ve just listened right now to the commentator, saying that Thiago Silva is not attacking enough.
“Respect Thiago Silva, because Thiago Silva arrived yesterday. Thiago Silva played for Brazil. Thiago Silva is very tired. Thiago Silva is 37 years [old], he plays like he is 20 years old.
“So respect him, he’s not a machine. He needs to relax, alright?”
    Tuchel splits from wife
Thomas Tuchel has split from his wife of thirteen years – with pals saying they have “exhausted” all avenues of staying together.
The Blues manager and his wife Sissi, 46, started divorce proceedings last week after many attempts to keep the family together.
German Tuchel, 48, has been battling the fallout from the clubs Russian oligarch owner, Roman Abramovich, as well as the breakdown of his marriage.
Ex-journalist Mrs Tuchel moved to the UK in August, seven months after the former PSG manager joined Chelsea.
He initially made his home in a hotel near the training ground in Cobham, Surrey, before setting up a family home close by.
    Tuchel on Brentford defeat
Thomas Tuchel blamed Chelsea’s lack of energy after the international break for the Blues’ 3-1 defeat to Brentford.
He said: “It was a tough start, which is not the first time it’s been like that after an international break, and it took us a while to find our rhythm and to find full control.
“We lacked energy and we didn’t do the things that usually make us strong.
“We looked tired, physically and mentally tired. It’s a big challenge to play after the international break but you have to get your results right as the favourite and being at home.
“We didn’t do that well enough today.”
    Good morning Chelsea fans
The owners of the Cleveland Cavaliers have joined forces with the consortium led by the Chicago Cubs-owning Ricketts family and the hedge fund tycoon Ken Griffin.
According to Sky News, Rock Entertainment Group have agreed to invest a significant amount of money into a bid.
They are led by businessman Dan Gilbert, who is worth $31billion.
As well as the Cleveland Cavaliers, REG owns the Cleveland Monsters ice hockey team, and the NBA G-League team Cleveland ChargeMeanwhile, Belgium boss Roberto Martinez has hinted Romelu Lukaku might have to quit Chelsea this summer – for his World Cup good.
The £97m striker has struggled for game-time under Thomas Tuchel since Christmas, after being forced into a public apology for his Italian TV interview in which he signalled his unhappiness at the Bridge.
And while Martinez said he had no inkling that Lukaku wants out of SW6, he agreed he was one of the Belgian stars who may be considering his future in the summer.
And amusingly, Thomas Tuchel blamed lack of maturity, tired legs and the British weather for Chelsea’s slump against Brentford.
The Blues were stunned 4-1 at Stamford Bridge.

“I’m not going to judge or assess the condition of any player until after the summer because it is not a normal situation.
“It is still seven months to the World Cup and probably you will go into the details of how a player feels when it gets closer to it than now.

After the game, Tuchel said: “We lacked maturity in our defending. We were not aware of the danger in these moments which is also very strange for us.
“We got punished and that’s also not normal. It’s a summary of strange events. It’s on us, it’s our fault.
“We felt leggy, which is normal after the break. We struggled in the beginning. I felt us more mentally tired, not fresh enough. Also, yesterday, we were wearing gloves and it was snowing during training. Today, it was very, very warm.”

That’s all from White Hart Lane
Spurs are up to fourth after their 5-1 thumping over Newcastle. The Magpies remain in 15th where they will look to find some form to help secure their safety. It’s all to play for at both ends of the table!
So, six goals, and none scored by Harry Kane? That’s a modern centre forward for you.
Thank you for reading and goodbye.
Howe hopeful result can mark turning point
After a dismal second half, here’s what the Newcastle boss had to say on moving forward from the heavy defeat:
It might be something in hindsight that we look back on as a good thing for us. It might realign our thoughts and bring us back down to the basics that have brought us success. Sometimes that jolt can be a good thing for you, and I think that’s how I’m going to try and approach it.Eddie Howe, Newcastle boss
    Conte praises King Kane
The Tottenham boss was smilier than usual in his post match press conference. He was confident after the result stating, ‘to play against us is not easy at this moment’.
When asked about his star striker, here’s what he had to say:
I think his performance was amazing. Kane is very important. First of all, I like the person. I have found a player that is a great man. He was an example from the first day I arrived here. Usually when you are a top player, sometimes you are a bit lazy.Antonio Conte, Tottenham boss
    Spurs jump up to fourth
After today’s result, Tottenham climb up two spots and into the Champions League places. Arsenal are level on points and still have two games in hand over their rivals, but it will certainly put the pressure on their match against Crystal Palace tomorrow night.
    Over to you Arsenal.

    Tottenham run riot
So there we have it, Tottenham blow away Newcastle in a 5-1 thrashing at White Hart lane.
After a cagey first half, Conte’s men turned a corner in the second, netting four times with no reply.
Doherty got the party started just 3 minutes after the restart, sliding in at the back post to head home Kane’s cross. Son was next, cooly slotting the ball past Dubravka from Kuluseveski’s ball across. Royal then got in on the act, tapping Doherty’s cross in off the post. Bergwijn came on to deliver the final blow, running onto Lucas’ pass and dispatching Tottenham’s fifth.
But don’t think Kane’s absence on the scoresheet means he had a quiet night. He ran the show, playing the role of creator.

Martin Atkinson blows his whistle, the managers’ shake hands, and Tottenham take all three points back to North London.
    Tottenham 5-1 Newcastle
90, The ball rolls out for a goal kick after yet another lifeless Newcastle ball forward.
The board goes up for 3 minutes added time.
    Tottenham 5-1 Newcastle
89, Saint Maximin swings and misses before pulling on a Tottenham shirt. That just about sums up his afternoon.

    Tottenham 5-1 Newcastle
87, Kane is playing like prime Pirlo this afternoon.
He picks out Son with another inch-perfect pass. The South Korean’s shot is blocked.

83, Bergwijn buries it for Tottenham’s fifth!
Tottenham 4-1 Newcastle – Spurs change
Bergwijn is on for Royal who has done well in Reguillon’s absence.
The Dutchman is looking as though he is partnering Harry Kane up front. That says it all, really.
    Tottenham 4-1 Newcastle
78, Son plays the ball out to Winks. Cheers of encouragement persuade him to have an effort. It wasn’t far away, but it would have taken something spectacular to beat the keeper from there.
The ‘olays’ have started amongst the home fans, now.
    It’s damage limitation for Newcastle
    Tottenham 4-1 Newcastle
77, Spurs in complete control with a quarter of an hour to play.
They are just playing it around the back, and there is little Newcastle can do about it.

There are spaces everywhere for Tottenham.
Kane spots Son running through the centre and plays a ball over the top to him. He looks certain to score, but he drags his shot just wide of the post.
    Newcastle are falling apart.
    Tottenham 4-1 Newcastle
Son plays in Doherty who brilliantly checks back inside before chipping the ball across to Royal. The Brazilian doesn’t make great contact but it doesn’t matter. It rolls in off the post.
    Spurs cruising.

    GOAL! Tottenham 4-1 Newcastle
63, Royal taps it in for four!
    Tottenham 3-1 Newcastle

Some nice passing allows Son the space to shoot. It’s straight at Dubravka, though. Kuluseveski wanted it played into him.
    Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle
27, A combination of Romero and Davies awkwardly deal with the free kick, and it’s out for a corner.
Burn is waiting for it at the back post. But what would have been a simple header for most players, Burn has to adapt his body and produce a diving header down by his waste which lacks any real power.
Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle – Yellow card

    Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle
19, Newcastle’s first promising passage of play ends in Saint-Maximin on the deck.

A bit of a headache, but he looks to be okay.
    Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

    Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle
10, Well if the first ten minutes are anything to go by, this is going to be all Tottenham.
Saint Maximin attempts to wriggle free of Royal in his own half, but is dispossessed and Tottenham launch yet another attack. They can’t quite link up to create a real opportunity yet, though.
    Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle
9, Some measured passing from Spurs. Dier attempts to find Son over the top, but Schar read the idea and heads clear.
They can’t get out though and Spurs continue to pile on the pressure.
    Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle
6, Royal’s ball into the box is blocked, he then lays it off for Bentancur who produces a curling effort, but it’s off a Newcastle head for the corner.
Son is forced to re-take it after some pushing and shoving in the box. Dier meets the second with a header, but it’s way over the bar.
The home side asserting their control, now.
    Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle
4, Doherty attempts to link up with Son in the area, but Burn can clear. Dubravka then receives it before calmly passing it out of his area after white shirts surrounded him. That had some Newcastle fans worried.
    Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle
2, Davies attempts to find Royal with a cross-field pass but there was just too much on it for the Brazilian.
    Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle
1, Some early pressure from Newcastle sees Saint-Maximin fouled on the wing by Romero after cutting inside the centre back.
Royal is able to head only partly clear from the free kick before Hojberg is able to clear up.

    Here come the two teams!
Lloris and Shelvey lead their sides out of the tunnel into to an expectant White Hart Lane.
Spurs wear their traditional white shirt and navy blue shorts, whilst the visitors sport a striking black and gold away strip.
International break came at the wrong time for Conte
Conte believes the international break stopped Spurs’ momentum, stating:
I would’ve liked to continue to play, it was the right momentum for us.Antonio Conte, Tottenham boss

Spurs drop to sixth before kick-off
Jarrod Bowen’s winner over Everton just minutes ago mean West Ham go above Tottenham in the league, but level on points. Spurs have two games in hand over the London side though, and will hope to leapfrog them with a result this afternoon.

    Kane hungry for more
Harry Kane made his first ever Premier League appearance against today’s opponents in the first week of the 2012-13 season, coming off the bench in a 2-1 defeat. Since then, the England skipper has netted eight times and produced two assists in 14 matches against them.
In actual fact, the Eddie Howe’s men aren’t one of his favourite sides to face. However, seven of these goal contributions have come in his last four topflight appearances against the Magpies, suggesting the fixture is growing on him.
Harry Kane has the joint most goal involvements by an Englishman this season alongside Jarrod Bowen.
Will he be the difference today?

Rangers 1-2 Celtic LIVE RESULT: Bhoys on verge of title as Joe Hart fumes over glass bottles bring thrown in Old Firm

CELTIC have come from behind to win a huge Old Firm derby.Aaron Ramsey has put hosts Rangers in front after just two minutes at Ibrox.
But on six minutes, Tom Rogic levelled for the Bhoys.
Then just before the break, Cameron Carter-Vickers fired Ange Postecoglou’s side ahead.
The start to the second half was then delayed as Joe Hart noticed broken glass bottles on the pitch behind his goal.
And when it did get underway, Celtic kept their city rivals at bay relatively comfortably to earn a deserved win.
    Doing what was required
Ange Postecoglou will be happy that his team were able to take his words out onto the pitch and apply his tactics to the letter.
They managed the game well after the early pressure from Rangers and used that experience to deal with the onslaught better in the second half.
Putting their bodies on the line all afternoon, the home side struggled to work Joe Hart as much as they would have liked.

    Europe the focus now
Rangers will not give up on retaining their Scottish Premiership crown until it is mathematically not possible.
With Celtic now six points clear they may need to change their focus to their European adventures.
The Gers face Braga in a Europa League quarter-final with the winners going on to play either Leipzig or Atalanta.
    Raise the Roofe
With Alfredo Morelos out injured, Rangers looked seriously short of firepower up front.
They need someone to link up with Aaron Ramsey in the role he plays just off the striker.
Rangers will have to hope that others can do them favours if they are to catch Celtic and prevent them winning the title this season.
    Bhoys are back in town
It has been some time since defending champions have been beaten at home in these Old Firm clashes.
After five minutes of this game, Celtic fans could be forgiven for fearing the worst after Aaron Ramsey’s goal.
Turning the result on its head, they have now gone six points clear of their Glasgow rivals.

    FT: Rangers 1-2 Celtic
The referee brings the game to an end.
Celtic players celebrate as they feel they taken one step closer to securing the Scottish Premiership title.
There is a deathly silence within Ibrox as the 700 Celtic fans can be heard loud and clear.
    Rangers 1-2 Celtic
90+5. Rangers are desperate to create one more chance.
With the ball in their own half, they have to go long.
Celtic deal with the aerial threat as well as they have all day.
    Rangers 1-2 Celtic
90+3. Rangers are still pumping balls into the Celtic box.
They are hoping to pick something up from the first or second ball.
On this occasion Roofe is given offside.
    Rangers 1-2 Celtic
90+1. Celtic players are dropping like flies with cramp currently.
Rangers are running out of time to find that equaliser.
Either a heavy touch or one too many touches is costing Rangers dear.
    Rangers 1-2 Celtic
    90. We will have five additional minutes here.

    Rangers 1-2 Celtic
    89. Celtic have defended solidly today.
They have protected Joe Hart on numerous occasions and as a result the Celtic stopper has not had as many shots to save as he would expect.
Rangers find Roofe in the box but his header is a yard or so wide of the post.
    Rangers 1-2 Celtic
    87. This has been a typical Old Firm derby today.
These games have so much more added to them by having fans from both teams in attendance.
Kent is brought down with a late challenge out wide.
    Rangers 1-2 Celtic
    85. Carter Vickers beats Roofe to the ball again.
The defender has been a rock for Celtic in defence today.
Rangers are throwing everything at the visitors right now.
    Rangers 1-2 Celtic
    83. Kent has now switched to the right hand side.
It seems to be working as he can cut onto his left foot.
His shot is blocked and cleared, Goldson crosses into the box.
Roofe meets it at the near post but can only put it over the bar.
Rangers 1-2 Celtic – McGregor save!
    81. Alan McGregor has just kept Rangers in this game.
The ball broke free to Abada on the penalty spot who struck it cleanly.
McGregor with a fingertip save to deny him.
    Rangers 1-2 Celtic
    79. Big final ten minutes or so for both teams.
If Celtic can hold onto this result they will be six points clear of their rivals.
Rangers need to find at least a goal to stop them extending their lead at the top of the table.

    Rangers 1-2 Celtic
    77. Abada with a chance to seal the victory.
Giakoumakis finds him at the back post in space.
As the defenders close on him he gets his shot away but slices it well wide.
Rangers 1-2 Celtic – Hart save
    75. Big left-handed save by Joe Hart to keep Rangers out.
The shot is from Fashion Jr, left-footed on the edge of the box.
It was heading into the bottom corner before Hart stretched out his hand.
    Rangers 1-2 Celtic
    73. Bassey with a great cross into the box, whipping it in at pace.
Carter Vickers just manages to get a touch on it with his head before Roofe.
All it needed was a Rangers touch.
Rangers 1-2 Celtic – Celtic sub
    71. Ralston replaces Taylor.
    Juranovic switches to left back.
Celtic are struggling to keep the ball since Rogic left the field.
    Rangers 1-2 Celtic
    69. Rangers have the bit between the teeth at the moment.
They are peppering the Celtic box with crosses.
The visitors are having to dig deep to keep them out.

    Rangers 1-2 Celtic
    67. Lundstrum tries an effort from about 25 yards out.
It would take some strike to beat Joe Hart from there.
Celtic’s defending is causing Rangers to have to shoot from distance.
Rangers 1-2 Celtic – Double booking
    65. Giakoumakis is booked for a late challenge on Ryan Jack.
Carter Vickers is then also booked for his challenge on Roofe moments later.
Aaron Ramsey’s first Old Firm derby comes to an end as he is substituted.
    Rangers 1-2 Celtic
    63. Both managers are contemplating changes they can make to effect this game.
It has all gone a bit scrappy now with neither side able to create any clean cut chances.
Jota is still causing the home side problems.
    Rangers 1-2 Celtic
    60. Baffles me when you see a professional footballer who cannot cross the ball passed the first defender.
Kent again disappoints in a promising position.
The ex-Liverpool academy product needs to focus on his delivery more.
    Rangers 1-2 Celtic
    58. The home team are struggling to get going in this second half.
Celtic are dealing with everything Rangers throw at them.
They could do with two or three more Aaron Ramseys.

BAYERN MUNICH have been urged to take revenge on Chelsea for snatching Kai Havertz away from them according to reports. The German international decided to make the switch to Stamford bridge from Bayer Leverkusen in 2020, but Bayern can take advantage of Chelsea’s current situation and finally lure him to the Allianz.
Meanwhile, Timo Werner’s exit plans are brewing up with reports suggesting that the Blues will not stand in his way come the transfer window.
On the pitch, Chelsea were stunned by Brentford 4-1 at Stamford Bridge this weekend, with Christian Eriksen scoring his first goal for the Bees in the win.
And keep up to date with all of the latest updates from the takeover.

    Martinez hints Lukaku could quit
Belgium boss Roberto Martinez has hinted Romelu Lukaku might have to quit Chelsea this summer – for his World Cup good.
Martinez said: “We are talking about players, like Romelu, who have got over 100 caps and are part of this group of players who know the national team inside out.
“I’m not going to judge or assess the condition of any player until after the summer because it is not a normal situation.
“It is still seven months to the World Cup and probably you will go into the details of how a player feels when it gets closer to it than now.
“But there will be a lot of players who change clubs or are going to feel in a different way in the summer.
“Romelu needs to be assessed on how he feels in September, the same way Eden Hazard does and some others.
“But he is one of the players for whom the summer could be a big moment for their careers.”
    Chelsea takeover
The owners of the Cleveland Cavaliers have joined forces with the consortium led by the Chicago Cubs-owning Ricketts family and the hedge fund tycoon Ken Griffin.
According to Sky News, Rock Entertainment Group have agreed to invest a significant amount of money into a bid.
They are led by businessman Dan Gilbert, who is worth $31billion.
As well as the Cleveland Cavaliers, REG owns the Cleveland Monsters ice hockey team, and the NBA G-League team Cleveland Charge.
    Blaming the Weather
Thomas Tuchel blamed lack of maturity, tired legs and the British weather for Chelsea’s slump against Brentford.
The Blues were stunned 4-1 at Stamford Bridge.
    Tuchel’s stunned by Bees
Thomas Tuchel has reacted to Chelsea’s shock loss to Brentford at Stamford Bridge by claiming “Nobody saw it coming”.
The German tactician saw his side crash to a 4-1 defeat.
And Tuchel told BBC Sport after the final whistle: “Nobody saw it coming, especially after going 1-0 ahead.
“It was very untypical of us. But we stopped defending. We were not aware of enough of the danger, were sloppy with the defending and got punished.
“They made the most of it in those 10 minutes. Right after their third goal we had 10 minutes where we had big, big chances and we missed them.
“They were lucky and clinical enough to get three goals. We did not defend like it is needed to in the Premier League and got punished.”
    Tuchel to blame
Fans have pointed the finger at Thomas Tuchel for his team selection against Brentford.
The Blues were humbled 4-1 at Stamford Bridge with the likes of Mateo Kovacic and Reece James left on the bench.
But Tuchel is adamant that the team he picked wasn’t a reflection on resting players ahead of their Champions League clash against Real Madrid next week.
He revealed it wasn’t even “half-percent” influenced by that upcoming clash.
    Real Madrid target Kante
N’golo Kante is rumoured to be on Real Madrid’s transfer target list with the LaLiga giants looking to boost their midfield ranks.
Reports in Spain claim the Chelsea ace, 31 could emerge as an option for the Spanish titans who are also eyeing a swoop for Aurelien Touchameni.
Sports news outlet AS.com suggests Madrid may turn their attention to Kante should their reported pursuit of Touchameni, 22, come to nothing.
It is thought the Monaco ace is a top defensive midfield target for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, who play Celta Vigo later, as well as the Blues.
However Madrid are also thought to be monitoring Kante’s situation with the France international approaching the end of his Blues’ deal.
    Disaster for Blues
Chelsea fell to a 4-1 defeat at home To Brentford.
Christian Eriksen was the star of the show, scoring his first goal for the Bees.
You can expect an epic reaction from Thomas Tuchel.
    Stay tuned.
    Goal of the season contender
Antonio Rudiger blasted Chelsea in front against Brentford with a real goal of the season contender.
His epic strike from 35-yards left Bees stopper David Raya with no chance.

    Malang Sarr speaks
Chelsea central defender Malang Sarr has revealed that he doesn’t mind filling in as a left-back for the club.
He said: “I know I can help in different positions, I know left-back is not my natural position but I try to bring the energy and play 100 percent.
“For a player it’s good, and as a manager I think it’s good to have a player who you can count on whether he is playing in his position or not. Wherever the manager needs me to play, I will do it.”
    Tuchel on five subs rule
Thomas Tuchel has remained focused on matters on the pitch despite Chelsea’s fans protest against the Ricketts family outside Stamford Bridge.
Speaking on the FA’s decision to let Prem teams use five subs next season, Tuchel shared his agreement with the choice.
He said: “I mean, we were the only league that did not do it in Europe so it’s an excellent decision and I dare to say it’s an excellent decision for everybody.
“I was long enough a coach of underdog teams and I would have loved to have had five substitutes to have more players play.
“To maybe increase the intensity or keep the intensity level against stronger teams if you are an underdog team.”
    Chelsea fans protest pictured
Chelsea fans have protested the takeover approach from the Ricketts family ahead of their clash with Brentford on Saturday afternoon.
Fans’ group We Are The Shed released a statement on Wednesday night urging supporters to make their feelings clear during the match – as Chicago Cubs owner Tom Ricketts and his family continue to negotiate with the club.
Around 100 of them gathered at Stamford Bridge to make their point to club chiefs.
Banners could be seen saying “Buck Off” and “No To Ricketts, No To Racism.”
The fans could also be heard chanting: “F*** off the Ricketts, you’re not wanted here.”

    Fans chant for Abramovich
Chelsea fans at the protest against the Ricketts family have made their feelings clear about Roman Abramovich.
The group of fans gathered outside Stamford Bridge chanted the name of the Russian oligarch as they vented their frustration towards the American family.

    Lukaku’s future discussed
Romelu Lukaku has no future at Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel should get rid of the Belgian.
That’s the view of ex-England star Carlton Palmer.
He said on talkSPORT: I don’t think he’s got a future under Tuchel, I really don’t.
“When he first came back, he started the season on fire. He is an absolutely fantastic footballer.
“And I just don’t understand why a manager would sign a player for that amount of money and then try and change the way he plays the game.”
    The Ricketts family speak
The Ricketts family are hoping to liaise with disgruntled Chelsea fans to share their vision for The Blues.
Chelsea fans have expressed that they do not want the American family to take over the club and plan to have a protest against them today at Stamford Bridge.
But the Ricketts family remain undeterred and hope they can win supporters around by having dialogue with them.
A statement read: “Over the past fortnight, our bid team has met with several supporter groups to explain our vision for Chelsea Football Club.
“In those meetings, and by letter to all groups, we have shared a set of specific commitments we will make to fans, if our bid is successful.
“We believe these are far-reaching and certainly include an absolute commitment on the part of the Ricketts Family and the bid team to put diversity and inclusion at the heart of the club.
“We look forward to more meetings – including with the Chelsea Supporters’ Trust – over the coming days and to making a public reiteration of our values and commitments.”
    Abramovich met with Putin
Roman Abramovich had a private meeting with Vladimir Putin to plead with him end the war in Ukraine, it was reported.
The Chelsea owner reportedly rushed to Moscow from his south of France mansion in the hours after the Russian tyrant ordered his troops to begin their onslaught.
Abramovich, 55, arrived late but after apologising was allowed to make his case that the war should end.
Despite being unable to convince Putin, he was nevertheless given permission to act as a mediator, says the Financial Times.
    Looking forward to it
USA ace Christian Pulisic has revealed that Chelsea team-mate and England star Mason Mount was the first person to call him after the World Cup draw.
The two Blues pals will face each other in the group stages after England and USA were drawn in the same group.
And Pulisic is relishing the chance to play against Mount.
He said: “Of course playing against England is exciting. It’s funny you know, the first call I got was from Mason on my team and we’re already talking, excited, looking forward to the game.
“It’s obviously a big team (England) and I know a lot of these guys but I think it’s a really nice match up and something that we’re definitely excited about.”
    Chelsea fans against Ricketts family
A survey conducted by Chelsea fans has revealed that the majority of the club’s supporters don’t want the Ricketts family to take over.
The survey compiled by the Chelsea Supporters’ Trust showed that 72% of fans have no faith in the American family to run an ‘inclusive and successful club.’
And a staggering 77% don’t support the US billionaires’ bid.

Chelsea reportedly spent £28.2million on agent fees from February 2, 2021 to January 31, 2022.
The Blues’ £28m was out of a total of £272m spent by Prem clubs during that time frame, according to The Athletic.
But they were third on the list behind Man City and Man United, but ahead of Liverpool and Arsenal.
Government weigh in on Ricketts family
The Government are reportedly concerned with the negativity surrounding the Ricketts family.
And the Guardian claims that the authorities don’t want a group unpopular with the fans to take ownership of Chelsea.
Fans have declared their opposition to the American family becoming the club’s owners and have planned a protest against them outside Stamford Bridge today.
    Tuchel’s staying out of it
Thomas Tuchel wants nothing to do with finding Chelsea’s new owners.
He told the media: “It’s better not to be involved because I think strongly what makes Chelsea strong is everybody knows his role and everybody knows his role is to play to the limit and push yourself to the limit.
“Also it is to understand where your limits are and where your responsibilities lie.
“I don’t think that would suit me and would help any ongoing process with the sale. That’s why I think it does not help.”
    Good morning, Chelsea fans
Chelsea fans have announced plans to protest against potential new owner Tom Ricketts this weekend, writes ANTHONY CHAPMAN.
Fans’ group We Are The Shed released a statement on Wednesday night urging supporters to make their feelings clear during today’s’ game against Brentford.
They want Chelsea supporters to attend Stamford Bridge with homemade banners showing their dissent against the American and his family, who are reported frontrunners to buy the club from Roman Abramovich.
The Ricketts have come under fire after leaked emails from Tom’s father Joe saw him say Muslims are ‘my natural enemy’.
And other bidders are reportedly in uproar over what they view as ‘preferential treatment’ for the Ricketts family’s offer.
We Are The Shed now hope to send a message this weekend in Saturday’s 3pm game against Brentford.
Although the match won’t be shown live on UK TV, American fans will be able to tune in.
And it is hoped the Ricketts family see a unified display from the Chelsea faithful.
The statement read: “There is a lot of noise around the Ricketts family and about protesting their potential ownership of Chelsea.
“We feel just as strongly as many others about the Ricketts family from what we have heard and read thus far.”
    Chelsea next five games
The Blues face Brentford tomorrow in a Premier League clash.
Then they should head into their Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid full of confidence if history has anything to do with it.
The Blues are unbeaten in all five competitive games they have played against the Spanish giants.
They have won three and drawn two.

    Boss on the international break
Boss Thomas Tuchel also spoke of the Blues break and how the squad will bounce back from the time spent away with their national teams.
Tuchel added: “Everybody was all around the world.
“Some players were successful, some not.
“Some have jetleg and so on.
“It’s always a challenge, you are never 100 per cent sure where you are.
“You regroup, regather and restart tomorrow.”
Injury updates ahead of tomorrow’s game.
Boss Thomas Tuchel spoke in the press-conference ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Brentford.
The German gaffer seemed in high spirits after the international break as he gave the injury updates.
He said: “Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ben Chillwell will miss the game tomorrow.
“Callum still has some lower-back problems.
    “Everyone else was in training.”

    Big points dropped
Manchester United have lost valuable ground in their pursuit on the teams in front of them this evening. Only time will tell if they can still catch up.
It could be only the fifth season in their history that Manchester United haven’t qualified for the Champions League.
Rangnick has said ‘as long as a top four finish is mathematically possible, it is possible.’
What do you reckon, Manchester United fans?

Rangnick on the result and benching Rashford
The Manchester United boss insisted he was not happy with the result, but is remaining positive.
The second half was the better one. We were struggling in the first half to find our rhythm after the international break. The reaction after the goal we conceded was good. The last 15 minutes we had two or three good moments when we could have scored the winning goal but didn’t. We are not happy with the result, but overall the second half was ok. Ralf Rangnick, Manchester United boss
To many, Rashford was certain to start this evening’s game in place of Ronaldo. However, Rangnick assigned him to the bench.
Here’s what he had to say:
We had to decide between playing Marcus as a striker or Paul Pogba in midfield, and we decided to start with Pogba. After 60 minutes we made the change… It is no secret that Marcus was not full of confidence in the last couple of weeks. We decided to go for Paul.Ralf Rangnick, Manchester United boss
Maddison has his word on the disallowed goal
James Maddison was one of Leicester’s best players today, calving out some great opportunities for his team-mates.
Here’s what he had to say on his disallowed goal:
It’s one of them. You’ve seen them given, you’ve seen them not given. I’m obviously going to be biased, I don’t think it’s a foul. Itwas a great feeling for a bout three minutes… Even after that, we had chances on the counter, but we’ll take a point. We’re a little bit disappointed that we haven’t come away with three points, which tells you the story about coming to this place at the minute.James Maddison, Leicester City midfielder
    FULL-TIME Manchester United 1-1 Leicester
The whistle is blown, and the points are shared in Manchester.
Wow! an electric last five minutes saw Manchester United come close on several occasions, but Leicester survive the onslaught and are able to hold the Red Devils to a 1-1 draw.
After a poor first half, the game sprung to life in the second.
Iheanacho got the ball rolling, heading past De Gea after a wonderful ball in from Maddison. But, United responded quickly. Fred was in the right place at the right time and fired home from close range after Fernandes’ shot was palmed away into his path. VAR then ruled out Maddison’s goal after a foul in the build up. Manchester United went hell for leather in stoppage time, creating chance after chance, but they were unable to make it count.

    Torrid day for Chelsea

An awful day on all accounts. Brentford deserved their win and then some.
Rudiger’s goal looked like it would clear the way for Chelsea to get more, but it did the opposite.
The celebrations went to the German’s head, instead, as just 12 minutes later it was 3-1 to Brentford.
    Chelsea 1-4 Brentford – Full-time

    Chelsea 1-3 Brentford

Perhaps the win that finally secures their safety in the Premier League.
But it’s a corner to the Blues.
    Chelsea 1-3 Brentford
    81. Havertz heads wide from a Ziyech cross and he looks visibly angry on what’s turning out to be a nightmare day for Chelsea.
Jensen preparing to come on for Brentford.
    Chelsea 1-3 Brentford
    80. Reece James hasn’t had a good game since he’s come on. He’s looked a little flustered at times.
He’s just found himself on the right and had an easy pass inside to make but fluffed it straight to a Bees defender.
    Chelsea 1-3 Brentford
    78. Another big chance for Brentford as a corner comes in and the ball scrambles about for what seems like an eternity, before it eventually goes for a corner.
Eriksen receives a hero’s applause as he comes to take it.
    Chelsea 1-3 Brentford
    76. Havertz is fighting for every ball in there, playing the typical modern No 9’s role, but nothing is coming off for Chelsea at the moment.
Brentford win a corner and almost score again, before it’s cleared away for a Bees throw.
Just under 15 minutes left for Chelsea to get back into this.
    Chelsea 1-3 Brentford
    74. More Chelsea pressure but nothing comes of it again. Brentford hanging on in there.

    Breathless action.
