Leicester fans will be praying he is passed fit to travel to Eindhoven.
    Rodgers remaining positive
Brendan Rodgers was measured and praising of his players’ in his post-match interview. Here’s what he had to say:
It was a good performance. There weren’t too many chances, but we defended well and were strong. We had two good chances with Barnes and and Kelechi had a good chance one on one. Braga vs Rangers LIVE RESULT: Abel Ruiz strike leaves Gers with work to do at Ibrox – Europa League reaction

RANGERS will be hoping for another magical Ibrox night to make it to the Europa League semi-final.Former Barcelona star Abel Ruiz netted the only goal of the game in Northern Portugal to give Braga a slim advantage heading into next week’s second leg.
    That’s all from Portugal
It’s the end of the evening – but not the end of this tie.
Despite defeat in Braga tonight, Rangers are still in this quarter-final and will fancy their chances of overturning a one-goal deficit in front of a full house at Ibrox next week.
You won’t want to miss a kick of what is sure to be an intriguing second leg, and you won’t with us here at SunSport.
Until next Thursday, thanks for joining us and goodnight.
    Ramsey remains on Rangers bench
Many watching fans, both inside Estadio Municipal de Braga and back at home in Glasgow, were confused by Aaron Ramsey’s lack of gametime this evening.
The Welsh international was dropped to the bench after scoring in Sunday’s Old Firm derby, and failed to make an appearance in the second half despite five substitutions at Rangers’ disposal.
There were pre-match rumours suggesting that Ramsey was carrying a knock, but manager Giovani van Bronckhurst afterwards confirmed that the midfielder was fully fit to feature.
    Gio sees second half improvements
Rangers manager Giovani van Bronckhorst believes his side’s second half showing – particularly once changes were made – can be the basis for them turning this quarter-final around at Ibrox next week.
It was a hard game. We conceded the goal and then tried to push for the 1-1 in the second half. In the last 20 minutes, we had more control.
They’re a side that transition really quickly so we had to be careful in those moments. On the ball, we should have tried more to break the lines – especially in the first half. We did that much better in the second half.
It’s a one-goal difference. Next week we play with the crowd behind us, we have to win by a margin of two, and then go to the semis. We know what the task is ahead of us.Giovani van BronkhorstBT Sport

    Rusty Rangers fail to threaten
Without Alfredo Morelos in their ranks, Rangers struggled to make a dent in Braga’s defence, and for the first time in 13 years, came off the pitch at the end of a European tie without having worked the opposition goalkeeper.
    Credit: @OptaJoe Twitter
    Great Scott! Arfield still believes
Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield insisted immediately after the final whistle that the Scottish Premiership are still capable of turning this quarter-final around despite defeat in Portugal.
It was a bit different. It was like a basketball game in the first half with two teams trying to win it. In the second half, we made it more difficult for them without creating any clearcut chances. We take it back to Ibrox, we’re only one behind, and we feel as though we can win this tie.Scott ArfieldBT Sport

    Facts from the first leg
Glasgow Rangers edged the possession and the passes, but failed to register a shot on target.

Full time – Braga 1-0 Rangers

    Braga 1-0 Rangers

They’re keeping possession of the ball upfield, away from danger.
    Braga 1-0 Rangers
    89. Rather than pinging the set-piece into the area, the visitors try to work an opening.
The decision looks to have failed at first, but then suddenly a cross comes in and it falls invitingly for Bassey ten yards from goal. The defender lets fly first time, but crashes his shot into the nearest opponent.
    That. Was. The. Chance.

    Braga 1-0 Rangers
    88. Rangers work a neat opening on the right wing, and Goldson looks ready to burst into the box, only for Carmo to dive in and bring him down.
The Braga defender is already on a yellow card, but somehow avoids a second caution and a sending off that would keep him out of the second leg.
Rangers will have to make do with a free-kick in a very promising position on the edge of the box.
    Braga 1-0 Rangers

The ball is still active in the area, but before the substitute can react, the referee’s whistle penalises him for offside.

    Braga 1-0 Rangers
    71. Not far away!
Arfield’s delivery from the right is met at the far post by the looping header of Goldson back across goal.
The Braga players are motionless – most of them appealing for a foul – and can only watch on as the ball drops a yard wide.
    Braga 1-0 Rangers
    69. Calvin Bassey has been one of Rangers’ better performers this evening in a defensive capacity, and now shows his ability in possession.
The left-back brings the ball out of defence and sparks an attack that involves Tavernier and Arfield.
    Rangers win a corner.
    Braga 1-0 Rangers
    66. Here come Braga down the left.
Gomes is the man in possession, and gets beyond Tavernier. He comes inside and has a sight of goal, but sends his shot straight at McGregor.

    Braga 1-0 Rangers
    64. Both teams are asking questions now.
Rangers have been brighter in the past ten minutes, but can they find an equaliser?
Will their subs inject some attacking intent, or drain the momentum they were beginning to build?
Will Kemar Roofe spend the last 25 minutes in an offside position?
    Braga 1-0 Rangers- Rangers substitutions
    62. Here come those changes.
On comes Borna Barisic, Joe Aribo and Kemar Roofe to replace Leon Balogun, Ryan Jack and Fashion Sakala.
    Braga 1-0 Rangers
    61. Yan Couto impresses again on the right flank. The 19-year-old has been very assured this evening.
Man City appear to have another gem on their hands.
    Braga 1-0 Rangers
    59. It looks as though Rangers are readying a change – or should that be changes.
It could be a triple substitution.

Man Utd ‘to appoint Ten Hag as manager’ REACTION, United ‘were tricked into Cristiano Ronaldo transfer by Man City’

MANCHESTER UNITED will appoint Eric ten Hag as their new manager, according to reports. The interview process is said to have come down to a two-horse race between Ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino, with the Ajax boss ultimately winning out.
Amid a mixed season for Cristiano Ronaldo at Old Trafford, Man City legend Shaun Goater has suggested United were tricked by Pep Guardiola’s club into signing the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.
He said: “It could be a really smart chess move from City, who have already thought a few steps ahead, maybe with one eye on the next summer transfer window.
“And by forcing United’s hand into signing Ronaldo, it’s likely to be one less team who are going to go after a striker this summer.”
    Rooney and Ronaldo rift
Cristiano Ronaldo has blasted Wayne Rooney after the Derby boss suggested Man United should flog his former team-mate.
Rooney urged United to get rid of Ronaldo and Paul Pogba ahead of the next season.
Ronaldo caught wind of Rooney’s comments and implied his ex-United comrade was jealous of him.
When Rooney posted a pic of himself on Sky Sports duty on Instagram, Ronaldo quipped: “Two Jealous,” underneath the snap.
    Lampard speaks on United game
Everton boss Frank Lampard is looking forward to the Toffees’ next game against Man United.
The Toffees were defeated by Burnley tonight but Lampard insists it will be a different ball game when they face United.
He said: “Manchester United will be a completely different game, with an understanding of the pressure that’s now on it.
“We can’t pretend tonight didn’t happen, we have to be on a good edge against United.
“I don’t need picking up, I’m the one that needs to be picking people up.
“As much as it feels not great tonight, tomorrow you’ve got to focus on Saturday.”
    Fab United pick
Man United have reportedly sent scouts to watch Porto midfielder Fabio Vieira.
The Red Devils representatives went to view the attacking midfielder in Porto’s 3-1 victory over Santa Clara recently, according to Record.
And they chose the right time to check Vieira out as he scored twice and won the man of the match prize.
    Still Fergie time
Sir Alex Ferguson is netting the equivalent of £235,000 a week — nine years after retiring as Manchester United boss.
Investments, book deals and public appearances, along with £2million for 20 days a year working as a club ambassador, mean the 80-year-old’s income is still on a Premier League level.
Sir Alex — known for United’s “Fergie Time” victories at the end of 90 minutes — has seen the value of his personal companies rise to £40million, as he raked in £12.2million last year alone.
Latest figures for ACF Sports Promotions, the company the Glasgow-born son of a shipbuilder uses for his commercial pay, show his assets rose from £17.5million to £26million in 2021.
In total, he has £39.2million assets in firms registered at Companies House, up from £27million the year before.
Assets in three other companies rose by £3.7million to £13.2million.
    Rangnick promotes youngster
Ralf Rangnick has reportedly promoted teenager Alejandro Garnacho into first-team training.
The 17-year-old has been bumped up to train with the big boys ahead of United’s match against Everton this weekend.
It could be one of Rangnick’s last defining acts as Man United boss with Ten Hag set to replace the German this summer.
A closer look at Rene Meulensteen
Rene Meulensteen has been touted as Erik Ten Hag’s potential assistant manager when the Dutchman takes over at Man United in the summer.
The 58-year-old was United’s first team coach from 2007 to 2013.
Since leaving United in 2013, he has travelled around the world in a variety of different roles.
He worked at Anzhi Makhachkala in Dagestan, before briefly taking charge as Fulham manager.
Meulensteen was then appointed as a consultant by the Philadelphia Union in MLS, before a six-month stint as Maccabi Haifa head coach in Israel.
He then spent a season in charge of India’s Kerala Blasters, ahead of taking on his current role as Australia national team assistant manager in 2018.
    Ronaldo to Inter Miami?
Man United ‘would gladly sell Cristiano Ronaldo’ this summer, reports claim.
And David Beckham’s Inter Miami are reportedly keen on a shock transfer.
Stefano Benzi told CMIT TV that United’s owners, the Glazers, are concerned they’re not getting bang for their buck from Ronnie.
The Glazers would reportedly be only too happy to part ways with top earner Ronaldo, giving them more dosh to invest in other areas of United’s squad.
And one potential destination that’s becoming increasingly likely is Inter Miami.
    Ajax’s Ten Hag compensation
Man United will have to hand Ajax a £2million lump sum in compensation to bring in Ten Hag.
According to the Daily Mail, Ajax are in line to receive £1.6m from United for Ten Hag.
But the eye-watering sum will likely be stretched to over £2m to cover the cost of Ten Hag’s backroom staff that will follow him to Old Trafford, the report also states.
    Carragher on Ten Hag appointment
Jamie Carragher has given Man United’s ‘brave’ decision to appoint Erik Ten Hag as their new manager a thumbs up.
Speaking to CBS after the news broke, Carragher said: “Yeah I think it’s a good decision, I think it’s a brave decision.
“The easy choice would have been Pochettino because he’s been in the Premier League before, so they’ve gone for a manager who’s not been in the Premier League.
“They’ve always gone with the established name if you like in terms of Jose Mourinho, Louis van Gaal. They went with Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer], who was the easy choice.”
    Ten Hag’s transfer list
Erik Ten Hag has been handed a list of transfer targets by Man United’s recruitment team ahead of his summer switch to the club.
According to The Mirror, United’s scouting department have been putting together a shortlist of stars they believe will thrive at Old Trafford.
And now, they want Ten Hag to recruit the identified transfer targets when he takes the reins at Old Trafford in the summer.
However, the Dutchman will have the final say on any new players and also be allowed to bring in his own set of stars, the report also states.
    Ten Hag’s new assistant manager
Ten Hag will reportedly be accompanied by former Man United first-team coach Rene Meulensteen to the club.
Meulensteen was United’s first-team coach under Sir Alex Ferguson from 2007 to 2013.
And now he’s set to return to the club as Ten Hag’s assistant manager, according to ESPN.
    Ten Hag’s charisma fears
Ten Hag failed to impress Man United’s board when he was interviewed by them for the manager role, according to reports.
That’s according to The Independent who claim the Dutchman’s lack of charisma left United’s chief’s to doubt whether he was the right man for the job.
But in the end it didn’t matter as the Red Devils board picked the Ajax boss to take the reins at Old Trafford ahead of several other big names.
    Ten Hag’s frank assessment
Erik Ten Hag has told Man United’s board that he needs five years to turn things around at the club.
That’s according to The Independent who claim Ten Hag told the club the first thing that he will fix is the squad’s physical conditioning.
Ten Hag fears that the current United squad isn’t fit enough to win the Champions League and he’s going to need some time to change that, The Independent reported.
    Man United’s shortlist
There were quite a few names linked with the Man United job.
Spain boss Luis Enrique and Sevilla’s Julen Lopetegui were also on United’s shortlist.
But it’s Ten Hag who will be tasked with rescuing United – almost a decade after Sir Alex Ferguson’s exit and the club’s last title win.
    Ten Hag cost
Man United will have to pay Ajax a huge compensation fee to bring in Ten Hag.
According to Sky Sports, United have been gathering information as to what compensation figure Ajax would be seeking to part ways with Ten Hag.
They state that sources close to Ajax and Ten Hag have suggested that dialogue has taken place over the financial element of a potential move to Old Trafford.
And now that the Dutchman has reportedly been picked as Rangnick’s successor, United will need to cough up his compensation fee to appease Ajax.
    Ten Hag pips Poch
Erik Ten Hag narrowly edged Mauricio Pochettino to the Man United job.
PSG boss Poch was the favourite for the Red Devils’ role before his side were knocked out of the Champions League.
But he was overtaken in the running in recent weeks by Ten Hag who’s now be confirmed as United’s new boss, according to reports.
And ESPN claim that some people at Man United still wanted Poch.
But the club’s football director John Murtough, technical director Darren Fletcher, chief executive Richard Arnold, and joint-chairman Joel Glazer all agreed that Ten Hag was the best man for the job.
Ten Hag to be named United’s new boss
Man United are set to unveil Erik Ten Hag as the club’s next manager, according to reports.
The Ajax boss has been heavily linked with the United job over the past few months.
And now, sources in England and Holland claim that the Dutch tactician will be officially named to replace Ralf Rangnick at Old Trafford this summer, ESPN reported.
    Simeone on Man United
Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has highlighted the main differences between Man United and their rivals Man City.
Simeone said: “United had different characteristics than City. They are more direct, and quicker.
“City are more positional, and in all areas, they manage things well. We have to increase and be better at the good things we did (against United).
“What I like most from teams like City is the effort they have to win the ball back and continue to play attacking.
“They are lovely to watch. They continue evolving because they have great players, but what wakes me up, the important things are Sterling, De Bruyne.
“They’re always active, and never leave a ball lost. All managers want that.”
    Romeo shines like Becks
Romeo Beckham laid on THREE assists as he helped Inter Miami’s B team to a 3-3 draw with Philadelphia Union II last night.
Playing for Fort Lauderdale CF, Romeo assisted three goals in the last 20 minutes to help his side nick a useful point.
With his side 2-0 down, he set up Benjamin Cremaschi in the 74th minute, before laying on Shanyder Borgelin’s equaliser in the 81st.
Boubacar Diallo appeared to have won it for Philly in the 88th minute, only for Romeo and Co to produce some late drama.
Golden Balls Jr produced a brilliant cross for Borgelin to turn home deep into stoppage time, grabbing his side a point in the process.
Neville’s son Harvey also featured, playing the full 90 minutes alongside Romeo.
    Ronaldo rallies back against critics
Cristiano Ronaldo insists he is ‘so happy and motivated’ at Manchester United as he rallied against his critics.
The former Real Madrid hero said: “I feel so happy and motivated for the rest of the season.
“I will do my best, like all the time – so thank you to them (who voted for me) and see you soon at Old Trafford.”
And on social media the five-time Ballon d’Or claimed he was still far hungrier for team success than personal honours.
He wrote: “Individual achievements are always welcome, but they are worth so much more when they are connected to collective wins.
“There are still many things to fight for until the end of the season and we can never quit on achieving the goals that remain possible and within our reach.
“Let us go for more! Let us fight until our last breath! Let’s go, Devils!”
    Mike Dean’s Wenger fear
Mike Dean insists Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson is NOT the ‘scariest Premier League manager ever’.
Instead, the iconic referee insists that award should go to Arsenal favourite Arsene Wenger.
Dean told BBC Sport: “[Scariest manager?] It has to be Arsene when he was at Arsenal.
“I always found it tough, not refereeing Arsenal in general but refereeing Arsenal when he was the manager.
“It was just his presence, he wanted the best for Arsenal all the time, and if he could find any way of getting one over you, he would do.
“Since he has finished football, I have seen him and he has been great. Cross the white line and everyone is different, like referees. We are normal people.”
    Trevor Sinclair on Man United
Man United have to undergo a complete squad overhaul before bringing in a new manager.
That’s the opinion of Trevor Sinclair who reckons Jadon Sancho, Paul Pogba, Raphael Varane, and Cristiano Ronaldo all need to go in order for United’s next manager to be successful.
Sinclair told talkSPORT: “It doesn’t matter what manager comes in to Manchester United next if they don’t get their eggs in a row properly and put the people in place that they need to.
“Director of football, philosophy, recruitment, manager, and in that order. [Otherwise] they’re just going to end up with a mismatch of players.
“You look through the side – you’ve got [Paul] Pogba who’s ready to go. Sancho’s come in as a winger – can’t beat a player, not quick enough.
“You’ve got Varane, for me the jury’s still out on him. You’ve got Ronaldo, can’t press, so why are you bringing him into the football club in the first place?”
    Mbappe to Man United?
Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit has urged Man United to enter the race to sign Kylian Mbappe.
Petit said: “Maybe there is a club in England. People are talking about Manchester City and Liverpool, but why not Manchester United.
“I know Kylian is very linked to his town, the fans, family and friends – so it’s a huge decision for him.”
    A Klaass act
Daavy Klaassen has aimed an incredible insult at Manchester United by questioning why Erik ten Hag would join a club that’s ‘been doing badly for years’.
Klaassen told Voetball Primeur: “He [Ten Hag] has been doing well with us for years.
“Manchester United has been doing badly for years.
“He can also stay. I hope so.”
    Chelsea lead Tchouameni transfer hunt
Chelsea are currently leading the transfer race to sign Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, according to reports.
The 22-year-old joined Monaco in 2020 and has since been deemed as one of the most promising stars in French football.
He has made 43 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring three goals and assisting two.
And now he is wanted by some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Manchester United, PSG and Real Madrid have all been linked with the star, but according to Spanish outlet Sport as per SportWitness, Chelsea are currently leading the race for his signature.
The Blues have reportedly been tracking the Frenchman for months and are eager to try and put a deal in place.

    Never mind.
Villarreal may rue their missed chances in front of goal.
Bayern only need to score one to level… in Munich.
    See you then!
    Villarreal victorious
Wow, take a breather. That was an electric second half. Chances, missed chances, and more missed chances…
The Spanish side are thoroughly deserving of their win this evening. They will only be disappointed they didn’t score more after creating a multitude of opportunities, only one of which they could convert.
Bayern were poor for long periods of the game. Their key men struggled to combine to create chances in the final third, and they left themselves open at the back. 36-year-old Albiol rolled back the years against Lewandowski, as his side were able to keep out the German champions all night long. They are lucky to only be one behind in the tie.
    Advantage Emery.

Man Utd ‘make Tuchel approach’, United ‘tricked into Cristiano Ronaldo transfer by City’, Milinkovic-Savic update

MANCHESTER UNITED have approached Thomas Tuchel over the vacant manager’s job, according to reports from Germany. The Red Devils were said to be edging closer to hiring Eric ten Hag, but it appears they are not yet ready to abandon the idea of the Chelsea boss taking over instead.
    Tuch and go
Man Utd have reportedly approached Thomas Tuchel to become their new manager, according to reports in Germany.
The Blues future remains uncertain post Roman Abramovich as the potential takeover of the club rumbles on.
Now Bild claims that has led to United making contact with the former Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund coach to enquire about his availability.
However, the report also states that Tuchel has informed them that he wants to stay at Chelsea as long as he can continue to work in the same vein.
    Ronaldo and Beckham link up?
Cristiano Ronaldo has been tipped to quit Manchester United and create a “formidable partnership” with David Beckham at Inter Miami.
He still has another year left to run on his initial two-year deal – but Garth Crooks reckons he should leave this summer and link up with fellow United legend and global superstar Becks.
Crooks told BBC Sport: “His professionalism is beyond reproach and he has more than fulfilled the expectations required of a 37-year-old player in the toughest league in the world.
“However, he is still a young man who needs a purpose in life.
“The United States might be the place to establish that purpose.
“David Beckham and Ronaldo would make a formidable partnership in Miami.”
    Fletcher’s ‘F-Bomb’
Man United technical director and former midfielder Darren Fletcher was involved in an X-rated spat with a fan on Saturday.
The shock incident occurred as the Red Devils suffered another poor result at Old Trafford as they were held to a draw by Leicester City.
The 25-year-old supporter, Jamie Caplan, has given his account of the incident to Manchester Evening News.
He claims he screamed at the United bench in fury after Kelechi Iheanacho scored for the Foxes.
The fan states he was fuming over the lack of effort on display from the players but insisted his words were not aimed specifically at Fletcher.
However, he claims the ex-Scotland international replied: “Who the f*** are you?”
    Ronald Araujo blow
Manchester United are highly likely to miss out on Barcelona star Ronald Araujo ahead of the summer transfer window.
That is because Araujo appears close to signing a new contract with Barca, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The defender’s agent said: “The agreement to extend the contract is now really close.
“We’ve very good feelings – just final details are missing, it could be matter of days”
    Ten Hag first target
Ajax manager Erik ten Hag will make Wolves star Ruben Neves one of his No1 transfer targets if he is appointed Manchester United boss, according to SunSport’s Jordan Davies.
SunSport understands Ten Hag has been a huge fan of Neves for years and would push to bring him to Old Trafford.
The Dutchman has been in advanced talks to take over at United for the past few weeks as the club prepares to name Ralf Rangnick’s permanent replacement.
It has also been reported that discussions over potential transfers have taken place – and the 52-year-old is believed to be pushing for the capture of the midfielder.
Ten Hag has followed the Portugal international’s progress since he watched him play for Porto as a teenager, and thinks he would be a vital addition to bolster the Red Devils’ current midfield issues.
    ‘Time & Place’
Manchester United ace Phil Jones has opened up about some of the horrific abuse he receives from fans.
When speaking to The Guardian, Jones said: “That’s happened a few times and it’s hard when you’re going through a really s*** time and you’re with your kids.
“There’s a time and place for everything – but not when you’re walking with your little girl and she’s asking what they were saying.
“But I’m over that. I’m in a more positive space than I was back then”

    Mata addresses future
Manchester United ace Juan Mata insists he remains “100 per cent” committed to playing football as he pours cold water on retirement rumours even though his contract runs out in the summer.
Mata said: “Of course I will be involved with Common Goal because that’s something that goes beyond football.
“It’s something that will last for much longer and it will stay there after I stop and many members stop, but my mind is 100 per cent committed to playing”
    Wrapping it up
Paris Saint-Germain technical director Leonardo has made signing Manchester United star Paul Pogba in the summer a priority.
According to the Manchester Evening News, PSG have made an offer to Pogba as he prepares to leave Old Trafford for a second time as a free agent at then end of the season.
And according to Foot Mercato, the Brazilian insisted to the French club’s hierarchy to wrap up the midfielder’s transfer.
Leonardo feels the France international is the “major signing” they need to make
    Austria’s Rangnick clarification
The Austrian FA denied reports suggesting they approached Ralf Rangnick over the manager’s job.
Rangnick is United’s interim manager and is expected to move upstairs as a consultant at the end of the season.
A statement posted on Twitter said: “Clarification: There was no meeting between OFB sports director Peter Schottel and Ralf Rangnick, coach of @ManUtd”
    Nick and choose
Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick will reportedly work just six days per month when he takes up his role as a consultant at the end of the season.
According to The Mail, Rangnick’s promotion will consist of just 144 days work over the course of his contract.
That works out as less than one week per month.
It is thought the German tactician has not been involved in the search for United’s next permanent manager
    Credit: GETTY IMAGES
    Gnab him in the summer
Bayern Munich star Serge Gnabry is contemplating leaving this summer with numerous Premier League clubs chasing his signature.
Gnabry’s contract with Bayern is up next summer and negotiations between the two parties have stalled due to his wage demands.
According to Goal, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United top the list of interested parties.
Reds’ manager Jurgen Klopp is said to view the winger as the ideal replacement for Mohamed Salah if he decides to leave Anfield.
United have been tracking the Germany international for some time.
The Blues have also been monitoring the 26-year-old’s situation with Bayern but the West Londoner’s transfer moratorium could put them out of the race.
Gnabry’s old team Arsenal likely have an edge in the transfer pursuit as he’s still got an affinity to his boyhood club
    Mac coming back?
Steve McLaren could be set for a sensational return to Manchester United as Erik ten Hag’s assistant.
United are on the lookout for a new manager with Ajax boss Ten Hag the favourite and Paris Saint-Germain head copach Mauricio Pochettino also linked.
The Dutchman is one of the favourites to succeed interim boss Ralf Rangick and McLaren is being eyed as a possible assistant, according to The Guardian.
The former England manager would make up for Ten Hag’s lack of Premier League experience and previously acted as No2 to Sir Alex Ferguson at United.
There is also the added bonus of McLaren having worked with Ten Hag previously at Twente
    Pay the price
Barcelona star and Manchester United flop Memphis Depay could make a sensational return to England after being ‘seduced’ by several Premier League clubs.
According to Superdeporte, Memphis is being courted by no less than three major sides.
Arsenal, Newcastle and Everton have all made contact with Barca over a summer move for the winger.
And the Netherlands international could be keen for a second shot in England after failing miserably at Old Trafford
    Kane transfer interest
Tottenham star Harry Kane is “curious” to listen to any Manchester United offer before deciding on his future.
Kane was close to leaving Spurs last summer but a deal with Manchester City couldn’t be agreed.
United could look to capitalise on City’s shortcomings and try to sign long-term target Kane in the upcoming transfer window.
And according to The Athletic, the England captain would be “curious to hear” the Red Devils out before deciding where he will play his football next season

    Gakpo’s Ruud Awakening
PSV Eindhoven star and Manchester United transfer target Cody Gakpo revealed how Ruud van Nistelrooy mentored him in the academy.
Gakpo told SunSport: “Van Nistelrooy was my striker trainer in the academy.
“I have learned a lot from him and I look up to him. He’s spoken to me about how to finish in certain situations and it helped me a lot.
“He told me some tricks on shooting and keeping my options open. Shoot low and hard, not beautiful and high. A goal is a goal, you know. I am grateful he did”
    Back Ron top
Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo is ready to drive his team into the Champions League after scooping his third Red Devils Player of the Month award this campaign.
Ronaldo said: “I feel so happy and motivated for the rest of the season.
“I will do my best, like I do all the time. See you soon in Old Trafford.
“Lovely. Thank you very much for these votes”
    United’ Rad move
Manchester United are interested in signing RB Leipzig star Konrad Laimer in the summer transfer window.
United interim manager Ralf Rangnick is said to be an admirer of Laimer and could recommend his signing once he moves into a consultancy role, according to Bild.
The Red Devils are said to be keen on signing a midfielder this summer with Fred and Scott McTominay’s form inconsistent and Nemanja Matic entering the latter stages of his career, while Paul Pogba is set to leave as a free agent.
But Leipzig are keen to keep the Austria international and will reportedly open talks with him about a new contract
    Mar Misery for Anthony
Manchester United star Anthony Martial is set to return in the summer following an unsuccessful spell at Sevilla.
Martial has failed to score in six La Liga appearances since his January loan move and provided just one assist.
The Andalusians were delighted to welcome the forward to the club earlier this year and his arrival was greeted with huge fanfare.
But the France international is now expected to return to Old Trafford when his loan deal ends in the summer, reports Marca.
Sevilla were previously keen to sign the 26-year-old on a permanent move for a club-record fee.
Martial’s time in Seville has reportedly gone from “bad to worse” and now he is struggling to make the starting line-up

    Mata of fact
Manchester United ace Juan Mata will NOT retire or join the team’s coaching staff this summer.
Mata’s contract expires at the end of the season leading to suggestions he could hang up his boots.
But according to Fabrizio Romano, the winger has no interest in retirement and has ruled out becoming a coach at United.
With a contract extension yet to be offered, the Spain international could end his eight-year stint at Old Trafford by walking out on a free transfer.
There has been interest from Spanish and Italian clubs but that would almost certainly mean taking a huge hit on his near £170,000-a-week wages
    It’s Paul over
Paris Saint-Germain have offered Paul Pogba a contract as he looks set to quit Manchester United this summer.
Pogba’s deal with United ends at the end of the season, and it doesn’t seem likely that he’ll sign an extension.
The midfielder has had a turbulent spell with the Red Devils and recently expressed his frustration over winning just two trophies in five years.
And according to Manchester Evening News, PSG have approached Pogba with a deal to lure him back to his homeland.
The report also states that the Parisians have offered Pogba a lower contract offer than the £500,000-a-week United presented him with in January, as SunSport exclusively revealed

Man Utd ‘were tricked into Cristiano Ronaldo transfer by City’, Milinkovic-Savic approach, Pogba PSG bid

PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN have reportedly made a formal approach for Paul Pogba. The France World Cup winner is out of contract at Man Utd in the summer and there is very little indication that he will sign a new deal.
In fact, the Red Devils have already drawn up a list of potential replacements.
One name high on that list is said to be long-term target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
Man Utd are said to have made an enquiry for the Lazio star, who the Serie A club are reported to be willing to sell rather than letting him run down his contract.
And Eric ten Hag is said to be moving ever closer to becoming the new Man Utd manager, with talks reported to be at an “advanced” stage.

    Ferdinand blasts Man Utd
Rio Ferdinand has blasted Man Utd for their handling of Paul Pogba’s contract.
The French World Cup winner’s contract is set to expire in the summer, and he is yet to sign a new deal with the club.
The Red Devils could, therefore, lose a player they paid a once world record £90million fee for for nothing.
“Business has been done poorly at the club,” Ferdinand told his FIVE YouTube channel.
“We shouldn’t be allowing players to get down to this stage in their contracts. I don’t think it should happen.
“Economically, to let someone you’ve spent £80m, £90m on, plus wages, leave on a free transfer is absolutely criminal. Twice, it’s like they’ve pulled our pants down twice.”
    Klaassen takes swipe at United
Ajax midfielder Davy Klaassen has revealed that he hopes Erik ten Hag will remain as manager of the Amsterdam club, and can’t understand why he would leave to lead a side of lesser quality.
Former Everton man Klaassen was discussing the ongoing speculation linking his coach with the Old Trafford job when he appeared to make the dig at the Premier League club.
The Dutch international told Voetball Primeur: [Erik ten Hag] has been doing well with us for years and Manchester United has been doing badly for years.”
The Red Devils are now five seasons without silverware. In that time, Ten Hag has won two Eredivisie titles and two KNVB Cups.
    Pay the price for Memphis
Barcelona forward Memphis Depay could make a sensational return to England after being ‘seduced’ by several Premier League clubs.
Superdeporte claims the former Manchester United flop is being courted by no less than three major sides.
Arsenal, Newcastle and Everton have all reportedly made contact with Barcelona over a summer move.
And Depay could be keen for a second shot in England after failing miserably at Old Trafford.
With Depay only signing a TWO-year deal at the Nou Camp last summer, Barca feel they may have to cash in now so they can strengthen other areas of their squad.

    Arsenal winning Cody Gakpo race
EXCLUSIVE: PSV forward Cody Gakpo appears to favour a switch to the Emirates over moves to Man Utd and Liverpool should he depart this summer.
The 22-year-old told SunSport: “The Premier League is a big league. Virgil van Dijk plays there with Liverpool so I like to watch them.
“We are not the same kind of league but I think we try to look at the Prem and learn about it.
“Everybody wants to play one time in the Prem. I don’t favour one team but I like Arsenal a lot.
“I looked up to Henry when I was younger because he was a tall guy who played on the wing.”
    Cody Gakpo on Prem interest
EXCLUSIVE: Arsenal and Man Utd target Cody Gakpo has spoken of interest in him ahead of rumours he could depart PSV in the summer.
The 22-year-old forward told SunSport: “I try to stay focused on what I am doing now and finishing the season really well, then after that I can focus on something else.
“If I can make a step to a team who plays in the Champions League every season, of course it is my dream.
“But I still have a contract and there is a new coach coming in — but maybe there comes a club I cannot say no to.
“Maybe they won’t come and I have to stay but for now I just want to keep working on this season.”
United ‘not good enough for CL’
Wayne Rooney has urged Manchester United to forget about the top four – as they aren’t good enough to compete in the Champions League.
Speaking on Monday Night Football, Rooney said: “I think for Manchester United not to be challenging, I think they’d want the season to be stopped now, if it could.
“Forget about the Champions League, they’re not going to compete next year if they qualify for it.
“I think they have to rebuild.
“Rebuild the squad, rebuild everything around the first team, around the club to make sure they put themselves in a position for in three years time, they can actually challenge again for the Premier League.”
    Rooney rues Ronaldo’s United return
Wayne Rooney believes Manchester United made a mistake in re-signing his former strike partner Cristiano Ronaldo, and should have instead invested in players for the future.
United’s record goalscorer was a guest on Sky’s Monday Night Football, and was asked directly if Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford had been a success.
Rooney responded: “You’d have to say no, not at the minute. He’s scored important goals in the Champions League earlier on in the season, and he scored the hat-trick against Tottenham.
“But I think if you’re looking at the future of the club, you have to go with younger, and hungrier players to lift Manchester United over the next two or three years.
“Cristiano is getting on a bit now, and he’s obviously not the player he was when he was in his twenties.
“That happens, that’s football. He’s still a goal threat, I just feel they need more younger and more hungry players.”
    Big boots to Phill
Man Utd have been advised to MOVE ON from superstars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Pogba.
Legendary forward Wayne Rooney has urged his former club to look to build for the future by signing young and hungry players.
Garth Crooks reckons Ronaldo should leave this summer and link up with fellow United legend and global superstar Becks at Inter Miami.
Moving on both Ronaldo, 37, and Pogba, 29, could see the club sign top target Kalvin Phillips.
United could also reignite their interest in Tottenham and England striker Harry Kane, who is nine years Ronaldo’s junior.
Here is how United could line-up next season.

    Premier League return for Gnabry?
Serge Gnabry is reportedly contemplating leaving Bayern Munich this summer with several Premier League giants chasing his signature.
The 26-year-old’s contract with the Bavarian behemoths is up next summer and talks between the two parties have stalled due to his wage demands.
The ex-Arsenal ace has rapidly transitioned into one of Europe’s best wingers – scoring 61 goals and providing 40 assists in 163 games since joining Bayern.
Although Bayern are desperate to keep hold of the winger, a gang of the continent’s biggest clubs have caught wind of his fraught relationship with the Bundesliga side.
And according to Goal, via the Daily Mail, Premier League big boys Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United top the list of interested parties.
    Cristiano Ronaldo to Inter Miami?
Cristiano Ronaldo has been tipped to quit Manchester United and create a “formidable partnership” with David Beckham at Inter Miami.
Garth Crooks told BBC Sport: “Old age comes to us all but its impact can be more visible in some than others.
“Ronaldo has scored an impressive 18 goals in 32 matches in all competitions this season but it is a far cry from his usual high standards of almost a goal every game when he was playing for Real Madrid.
“I am a huge admirer of Ronaldo.
“His professionalism is beyond reproach and he has more than fulfilled the expectations required of a 37-year-old player in the toughest league in the world.
“However, he is still a young man who needs a purpose in life. The United States might be the place to establish that purpose.
“David Beckham and Ronaldo would make a formidable partnership in Miami. One thing is for sure, the five-time Ballon D’or winner doesn’t need the money.”
    Good afternoon Man Utd fans
Paris Saint-Germain have made an official approach to Paul Pogba, according to the Manchester Evening News’ Samuel Luckhurst.
The United correspondent reports that PSG have presented a package to Pogba’s representatives that includes a salary lower than what is currently on the table to remain at Old Trafford.
The French midfielder is open to a move to his country’s capital, although is believes to favour a move back to former club Juventus.
And United are said to be already eyeing up his replacement, with Lazio ace Sergej Milinkovic-Savic on their shortlist.
The 27-year-old’s contract is ticking down, and it’s understood that the Rome outfit want to cash in before he – like Pogba – walks away for nothing.
Corriere dello Sport report that United have enquired about the Serbia international’s services.
In other news, United’s hopes of signing Ronald Araujo in the summer have been dealt a huge blow after it emerged that the centre-back was now willing to sign a new contract with Barcelona.
It had previously been reported that the Uruguayan was up for grabs after talks with Barca over a new deal had stalled.
And finally, Wayne Rooney has claimed that Manchester United’s academy “didn’t exist” under Jose Mourinho.
Appearing on Monday Night Football, Wazza said: “The distance between the academy and the first team and the manager, especially under Mourinho, was huge.
“It was almost as if they didn’t exist, if you like. Having the relationship they had with Sir Alex for 26 years and then not being allowed anywhere near the first team…
“It’s almost like there was a divorce between the first team and the academy.”
