    Bakayoko heading back to Bridge
Chelsea are set to find themselves stuck with Tiemoue Bakayoko again.
That’s because AC Milan will reportedly terminate his loan deal this summer – a YEAR early.
Nicolo Schira claims Stefano Pioli has stopped picking Bakayoko to avoid triggering a £12.5million permanent deal clause.
And the Frenchman is so far down the pecking order that Milan would rather boot him out of the San Siro altogether than keep him until 2023.
    Who is Chelsea bidder Ratcliffe?
Chemical engineer Jim Ratcliffe was on the Sunday Times Rich List 2021 with a personal fortune estimated at £6.33billion.
And the Brit is now leading the race to buy Chelsea after submitting a mega £4bn bid on Friday.
But just who is the billionaire entrepeneur?

    More on Jim Ratcliffe’s bid
“We will continue to invest in the team to ensure we have a first class squad of the world’s greatest players, coaches and support staff, in the men’s and women’s games.
“And we hope to continue to invest in the academy to provide opportunity for talented youngsters to develop into first class players.
“We believe that London should have a club that reflects the stature of the city. One that is held in the same regard as Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern Munich. We intend Chelsea to be that club.
“We are making this investment as fans of the beautiful game – not as a means to turn a profit. We do that with our core businesses. The club is rooted in its community and its fans. And it is our intention to invest in Chelsea FC for that reason.
“No further comment will be made from Sir Jim or INEOS during the bidding process.”
    Full statement on Ratcliffe bid
“Sir Jim Ratcliffe, chairman of Ineos, has made a formal bid for Chelsea FC, for £4.25bn. £2.5bn is committed to the Charitable Trust to support victims of the war, with £1.75bn committed to investment directly into the club over the next 10 years.
“This is a British bid, for a British club. We believe that a club is bigger than its owners who are temporary custodians of a great tradition. With responsibility to the fans and the community.
“That is why we are committing to spending £1.75bn over 10 years that will be for the direct benefit of the club.
“We will invest in Stamford Bridge to make it a world-class stadium, befitting of Chelsea FC.
“This will be organic and ongoing so that we will not move away from the home of Chelsea and risk losing the support of loyal fans.”
    Tuchel excited by Lampard meeting
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has revealed he is looking forward to finally meeting Frank Lampard when the Blues take on Everton on Sunday, and wants to thank him for the introduction he gave him to life at Stamford Bridge.
“He sent me a very kind, respectful message after I took over at Chelsea that meant a lot. I was a huge fan of him as a player, and he is – and will remain – a legend at our club,” said Tuchel at his press conference ahead of the weekend.
“We didn’t have the chance to go out for lunch, and then he took the chance to take charge of Everton. He took an assistant from us, Joe Edwards, too and we were not so happy! I’m just joking.
“We will meet some friendly faces [on Sunday] with Joe and Ashley Cole, and Frank, who I have never met in person.
“We need the points, and they need the points urgently as well. It is an exciting week for me personally. Everybody tells me about the atmosphere at Goodison Park, how emotional and how tough it is to play there.”

Breaking: Ratcliffe makes £4bn bid for Chelsea
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made a dramatic late bid to buy Chelsea, according to Matt Dickinson at The Times.
The British billionaire approached Raine Group this morning and submitted an offer in the area of £4billion.
The owner of petrochemicals giant, Ineos, met with Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck on Thursday to discuss the possibility of a bid for consideration.
“We put an offer in this morning,” Ratcliffe told The Times. “We are the only British bid. Our motives are simply to try and create a very fine club in London. We have no profit motive because we make our money in other ways.”.
Ratcliffe, a season ticket holder at Stamford Bridge, wishes to use £1.75bn of his offer in order to upgrade the team and stadium.
    Winning bid announcement delayed again
The wait to learn the identity of the new Chelsea owners will go into next week after it was suggested that there is still some confusion as to the allocation of funds from the sale.
New York Times reporter Tariq Panja tweeted that government have been left frustrated and unsatisfied by the answers to some of their questions.

    Frank-ly depressing fixture for Toffees
Chelsea return to Premier League action on Sunday – and could strike a dagger through the heart of one of their favourite sons.
The Blues travel to Everton, now managed by their record goalscorer Frank Lampard, and anything less than a Toffees win will leave the Merseyside club in the relegation zone with five games to play.
Lampard will become the tenth former Chelsea manager to take charge of a Premier League match against the Blues, and the signs are not good for the 43-year-old.
Only one of the previous nine former Chelsea bosses has won their first such match (D1 L7),
The exception is Claudio Ranieri, who won 2-1 with Leicester in December 2015 on his way to winning the title with the Foxes.
    Cottee: Rice would prefer Chelsea
Declan Rice’s preference would be to join Chelsea, according to one West Ham legend.
Tony Cottee believes that out of the top clubs tracking the Hammers captain, it is Stamford Bridge that is his most likely destination.
In a conversation with MyBettingSites, TC said: “I think if you honestly ask him the question, [Declan Rice] would probably prefer to go to Chelsea.
“Declan was at Chelsea as a youngster, left there at the age of fourteen to sign for West Ham.
“His best friend is Mason Mount, so there are lots of reasons for him to go to Chelsea.”
Breaking: Kerr named Footballer of the Year
Chelsea’s Sam Kerr has been named as the Football Writers’ Association as Women’s Footballer of the Year.
The Australian has struck 18 goals in 18 appearances in the WSL this season, helping her club to close in on the league title.
Former Blues player Mo Salah picked up the men’s award, the Liverpool ace winning it for the second time.

Madrid see James as Real deal
Real Madrid are at the front of a pack of European clubs hoping to land Chelsea star Reece James.
Nizaar Kinsella understands that the Spanish giants have already spoken to the player’s representatives about bringing the wing-back to the Bernabeu.
Naturally, the Blues hope to keep their England star happy at the Bridge, and are keen to extend his contract that currently runs until 2025.
However, James is one of the lowest-paid players at the clubs, and could well be tempted by a bumper deal with one of the biggest clubs in the game.
It is suggested that Real would prefer to do a deal for the defender in 2023 so as to concentrate on attacking areas this summer.
    Boehly bid leading the charge
The bid headed by LA Dodgers owner Todd Boehly is in the lead to buy Chelsea.
Sources close to the consortium have told the Daily Mail that they expect their offer for the football club to be announced as the approved option in the coming days.
However, those involved with the rival bids of Sir Martin Broughton and Steve Pagliuca have not given up hope, and hope to convince Raine Group before a final decision is made.
It was revealed yesterday that the three bidders have been asked to stump up an extra £500million in order to help boost a £1billion charitable donation to be made upon the sale of the Stamford Bridge outfit.
    Roy so keen on James
Former Manchester United star Roy Keane believes that Chelsea are lucky to have a player of Reece James’ ability.
The Irishman, speaking in his role as pundit for Sky Sports, revealed himself to be a huge fan of the defender following last night’s 1-1 draw between his former club and the Blues at Old Trafford.
“What a player Reece James is,” said Keane during the analysis of the game.
“He looks like a boxer. His distribution, movement, strength. He seems like a nice kid too. He’s a clever lad, could play in any position.
“Chelsea are a lucky club to have him. Outstanding.”
James picked up the Man of the Match award for his performance during the Premier League encounter.

    Good morning Chelsea fans
Thomas Tuchel’s men played out a 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Marcos Alonso handed Chelsea the lead with a striker’s finish.
But Cristiano Ronaldo equalised minutes later to share the points.
Antonio Rudiger is edging closer to his Real Madrid free transfer with his medical being planned for the next few days, according to reports.
The Chelsea defender’s Stamford Bridge contract expires this summer.
And after Thomas Tuchel confirmed he would not be signing an extension, it is widely expected the centre-back will join Real for free.
Former Chelsea and Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson has said that Man Utd midfielder Paul Pogba doesn’t have “the character to suit either Liverpool or Chelsea.”
And finally, the three prospective owners of Chelsea have been asked to increase their offers by £500million by outgoing billionaire Roman Abramovich.
Martin Kleinman at Sky News reports that the Russian owner is demanding the additional money to help augment a £1billion charitable donation to be made upon the sale of the football club.
The increase in price effectively guarantees “a minimum headline price for the club of £2.5billion.”
    Chelsea verdict
Chelsea suffered yet more dejavu as they dominated Manchester United but paid the price for lacking a goalscorer.
Kai Havertz, signed for over £70million from Bayer Leverkusen in 2020, missed two golden chances in the first half at Old Trafford.
The German is not an out and out striker but has led the line well at times for the Blues this season.
But his squandered chances in Manchester prove Chelsea are still being haunted by a lack of clinical finishing.
Last year’s Champions League winners might have thought they had solved that problem after signing Romelu Lukaku in the summer.
But the club-record £97.5million signing is edging towards a second flop spell at Stamford Bridge.
‘I hope Ten Hag is watching’
A deflated Gary Neville didn’t hold back in his assessment of Manchester United during their 1-1 draw with Chelsea.
The Red Devils legend tore into Ralf Rangnick’s flops, slamming the players as “embarrassing” despite the two teams sharing the points.
Neville blasted: “Man United are the type of team for any football fan watching that you almost want to get beat.
“They need beating, they set a really poor example around work ethic and trying – and all the things that parents and teachers tell their children every single day.”
Full time – Manchester United 1-1 Chelsea

    Jesse Lingard dropped
Jesse Lingard has been dropped from Manchester United’s matchday squad for personal reasons just days after calling their dressing room a “disaster”.
Red Devils legend Paul Scholes recently let slip that Lingard told him about the sorry state of affairs behind the scenes at Old Trafford.
Interim boss Ralf Rangnick took a backhanded swipe at Lingard following Scholes’ confession.
And the German has now dropped the England international altogether for tonight’s clash with Chelsea at the Theatre of Dreams.

Ronaldo rescues Red Devils AGAIN, Rangnick CONFIRMED as Austria coach, Sancho could be OUT for the season – updates

CRISTIANO RONALDO kept Manchester United’s Champions League hopes alive with a sensational finish in the 1-1 draw against Chelsea last night. The Portuguese icon scored minutes after the Blues grabbed the opener which gives the Red Devils an outside of chance of landing in the top four.
Meanwhile, Ralf Rangnick has officially been confirmed as the new manager of the Austrian national football team.
However, the German will combine his new job with the consultancy role at United.
And summer signing Jadon Sancho could be OUT for the season with tonsillitis

    Rangnick’s part-time United role
Ralf Rangnick will work just six days a month in his consultancy role at Man Utd.
The Telegraph claims United’s current interim will definitely combine the behind-the-scenes role with his newly-announced job as Austria boss.
But Rangnick’s involvement at United will be limited to less than one week each month.
And it’s believed his main focus will be on helping Erik ten Hag with recruitment.
    Exclusive by SunSport’s Jake Lambourne
Danny Mills has urged Erik ten Hag to complete an overhaul of Man Utd’s backroom staff – and not just the playing squad.
Mills said: “I think he’s got to clear out the backroom staff. There’s a lot of legacy people at United who know the club inside out, but it hasn’t worked for the last ten years now.
“They’ve struggled and when you bring a new manager in, with the way they work wanting to develop players and younger players through to the first team…
“I think he needs to clear out the backroom staff and bring his own people. You don’t have the issues of ‘well we used to do it this way’.
“One bad apple can spoil the whole barrel, it’s easy to point fingers when you’re not winning games and compare it to Sir Alex Ferguson.
“You don’t need any of that influence, United have struggled for long enough so it should be a clean sweep and start again.”
    Man Utd’s mega money wages
Bruno Fernandes is the latest Red Devil to pen a lucrative long-term deal.
The Portuguese playmaker saw his weekly earning skyrocket to a staggering £240,000.
But there are still SIX other players at Man Utd currently pocketing even more dosh.

Sancho could be out for season
Manchester United may have to play the final three games of the season without Jadon Sancho.
Interim boss Ralf Rangnick confirmed this afternoon that the England international missed last night’s match with Chelsea due to tonsillitis.
“Jadon [Sancho] might be out for the rest of the season with his tonsillitis so he will be unavailable against Brentford,” revealed Rangnick at his Friday press conference.
“He’s got inflammation on his tonsils and has also had some high temperatures.
“Hopefully, they can get hold of that inflammation and if the tonsils have to be taken out and removed, this can happen at the end of the season.”
    Keane sunk by United subs
Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has been slammed by Roy Keane for bringing Juan Mata on against Chelsea in Thursday’s 1-1 draw.
With the Red Devils needing a victory to remain in the race for fourth, Rangnick turned to the 34-year-old, who will be leaving the club in the summer.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Keane said: “It’s like a tribute to Mata, I thought it was his testimonial tonight. You’re Man United, you’re fighting for points, you’re playing for pride.
“It’s all like ‘we’ll give him a game, we’ll bring [Phil] Jones on, everyone gets a round of applause,’ you’re there to try and win a game of football for Man United.
“Forget all this ‘oh we’ll give someone 20 minutes because he’s leaving in a few weeks’ actually you should have left two years ago, a few of them.
“Get young lads on who are hopefully going to be there for the future and get a taste of playing at Old Trafford, playing against really good players in terms of Chelsea.”
    Breaking: Rangnick confirms two jobs
Ralf Rangnick has been officially confirmed as the new manager of the Austria national team – but will continue to work at Manchester United in a consultancy role.
The German has agreed a two-year deal with the Austrian Football Association to lead the national side until the 2024 European Championships.
However, the 62-year-old will combine his new job with a consultancy role at Manchester United, and insists he’s committed to helping the club to rebuild.
A statement from Rangnick reads: “I will take over as national team manager of Austria at the end of the season but will continue my consultancy with Manchester United.
“I’m really looking forward to playing my part in helping United become a real force.”

    Keane slams whole-hearted Matic
Nemanja Matic and Reece James clashed during the second half of last night’s match at Old Trafford.
But while Roy Keane was full of praise for James after the game, stating that Chelsea were ‘lucky’ to have him, he was less than impressed with Matic.
Keane was enraged by the Serbian midfielder’s post-match interview in which he claimed the Red Devils would always be in his heart – before adding that so too would former club Chelsea.
Back in the Sky Sports studio, Keane mocked Matic’s comments, saying: “Where’s the standards at the club?
“Matic’s talking about ‘I’m leaving, I’ve had a great time, Man United will always be in my heart, oh and Chelsea as well, oh and Benfica don’t forget them’. They all can’t be in your heart.”
    Ralf set for international appointment
Ralf Rangnick will today be officially announced as the new head coach of Austria.
A press conference in Vienna is scheduled for 11.45am when the appointment will be announced.
The 63-year-old will link up with the Austrian national team until 2024.
Rangnick is expected to remain in his consultancy role with Manchester United while leading the Austrians.
    Ten Hag: Leave me alone!
Erik ten Hag has told Manchester United officials not to contact him.
But don’t worry, Red Devils, the request only concerns the 48 hours prior to Ajax matches while he concludes his time with the Amsterdam club.
ESPN understand that Ten Hag, who will take over as manager at Old this summer, needs two days free of distractions before each game.
Top-of-the-table Ajax are looking to claim the Eredivisie title for a fourth season in succession, and lead PSV by four points with four games to play.
On your Marcs: Gunners want Rashford
Arsenal have registered their interest in Manchester United star Marcus Rashford, reports suggest.
That is according to Football Insider, who claim that the Gunners have set aside £45million to boost their attack and are looking to splash it all on Rashford in the summer.
The forward has struggled at United this season after starting out with a shoulder injury, and his future at the club is ‘up in the air’.
The North Londoners are desperate to land an attacker from the top shelf this summer and the England international is reportedly a ‘leading target’.
Arsenal lost star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona during the January transfer window.
Manager Mikel Arteta is also likely to be left without any centre-forwards at the end of the season as Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah’s contracts run out in June.

Breaking: Greenwood bail to be extended
Police want extra time to investigate Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood after he was arrested on suspicion of rape, assault and threats to kill.
The 20-year-old’s bail is due to end tomorrow, but a request has been submitted to extend that deadline.
However, Mike Keegan at the Daily Mail understands that a decision on the request may not be made until mid-June.
In the meantime, the footballer will remain on conditional bail.
    United suffer De Jong blow
Manchester United’s ambitious hopes of landing Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong have suffered a blow after it emerged moneybags PSG were also in for the midfielder.
The Dutch star worked with Erik ten Hag at Ajax, and has been linked with a reunion ever since the new Manchester United manager was officially confirmed.
Barcelona do not wish to sell one of their stars but could be tempted by a large offer while they continue to get back on a stable financial footing.
And that is likely to leave the Ligue 1 club in pole position given their resources, and United’s need to bring in quantity as well as quality.
    Dream comes true for Garnacho
Alejandro Garnacho hailed his Manchester United debut as a ‘dream come true’ after coming on for the closing stages of Thursday’s draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford.
There have been calls for the 17-year-old to be included in the first team in recent weeks, and the winger finally got the nod with United missing eight regulars.
The Spanish-born Argentine tweeted after his late cameo: “Incredible moment making my debut at 17 years old for Manchester United in the Premier League at the Theatre of Dreams.”
“I can’t put into words what I’m feeling right now, I’ve been dreaming of this moment since I was 4 years old.
“Remember guys, Dreams really do come true.”

    Rangnick praises De Gea display
Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick reckons David de Gea’s first half performance was key to the Red Devils earning a point at home to Chelsea.
The German coach admitted his side struggled in the opening 45 to keep the Blues at bay, and needed a string of fine saves from their Spanish stopper to keep them on level terms.
“It was a good point for us,” Rangnick revealed afterwards.
“In the first half, Chelsea dominated the game. We had massive problem in closing down the spaces although our gameplan was to attack them higher and be aggressive but, to be honest, it was very difficult for us to do that.
“You can see that they have top players and also very good organisation.
“That showed in the first half, and we needed some great saves from David de Gea and some last ditch tackles.”

    Good morning Man Utd fans
Ralf Rangnick’s side played out a 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford.
Marcos Alonso handed Chelsea the lead with a striker’s finish.
But Cristiano Ronaldo equalised minutes later to share the points.
A deflated Gary Neville didn’t hold back in his assessment.
Neville blasted: “Man United are the type of team for any football fan watching that you almost want to get beat.
“They need beating, they set a really poor example around work ethic and trying – and all the things that parents and teachers tell their children every single day.”
Fans protested against the Glazer family during their crunch clash with Chelsea.
Die-hard United supporters were pictured holding banners reading “Glazers Out” before kick-off at Old Trafford.
On the transfer front, Arsenal have registered their interest in United star Marcus Rashford, reports suggest.
That is according to Football Insider, who claim that the Gunners have set aside £45million to boost their attack and are looking to splash it all on Rashford in the summer transfer window.
And finally, Rangnick has been offered the job as manager of the Austrian national team.
But SunSport understands the 63-year-old would still continue in his advisory position at Manchester United when Erik ten Hag takes over as boss.
Austrian outlet Kurier claim Rangnick is close to being named as the new head coach.
    Man Utd verdict
Harry Maguire should hardly be that worried that he will lose the Manchester United captaincy once Erik Ten Hag shows up.
Certainly not on the basis of the first audition of suitable candidates on view against Chelsea.
The England central defender’s role as skipper of the Red Devils is under threat.
Interim manager Ralf Rangnick declared that a vote should be held amongst the players for who will wear the famous arm band next season.
And that means Maguire, missing against Chelsea and who will also be out with knee trouble for the remaining three games of United’s miserable campaign, won’t get the German’s recommendation to carry on.
He suggests a players’ council, similar to what is in place at Manchester City and Arsenal.
That could mean several players will lead the team as opposed to only one.
Yet no one player stood out as his replacement even if Bruno Fernandes was captain for the night and will probably be given the responsibility through those last fixtures.
‘I hope Ten Hag is watching’
A deflated Gary Neville didn’t hold back in his assessment of Manchester United during their 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

Manchester United fans are protesting against the Glazer family during their crunch clash with Chelsea.
Die-hard United supporters were pictured holding banners reading ‘Glazers Out’ before kick-off at Old Trafford.
They were also heard chanting they want the American owners out during the first half, with ‘We want Glazers Out’ and ‘Stand up if you hate the Glazers’ ringing around Old Trafford.
The Red Devils are experiencing a shocking campaign despite a busy summer transfer window that saw them signing stars like Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane – as well as legend Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Manchester giants are sixth in the Premier League and are likely to miss out on Champions League football next season.
United have also conceded a whopping 51 goals in 35 league matches, which is the worst return out of the entire top eight.

    That’s all from London Stadium
Frankfurt have the advantage going into the second leg.
However, West Ham have proved on multiple occasions that they can perform just as well, if not better, away from home in the Europa League.
It is still all to play for.
A place in the final is at stake.
Thank you for reading, and goodnight!

    Oliver Glasner reacts
“I am very impressed by the lads, how they played, how they took the lead in the first minute.
“It’s just impressive, the confidence they showed. West Ham threatened then, but we did well defending the set pieces.
“Borre’s run behind the defence was instrumental and it’s not the first time Knauff has scored from the far post.
“We wanted these runs and we also knew West Ham are sometimes a bit passive around their box.
“Leading after the first leg is always good, even though we were a little bit lucky from their bicycle kick.
“The lads did so well, they positioned well against their very physical defence and Borre moved well between the lines, so we evaded their man marking.”

    History Maker
Knauff’s early strike was Frankfurt’s quickest ever Europa League goal.

    David Moyes reacts
When speaking to BT Sport, Moyes said:
“Not what we wanted – we didn’t play well enough to get a result tonight but it’s still there, it’s not gone.
“We’ll go to the second leg probably not fancied and do what we can to still make it.
“I didn’t change too much [after first goal], I thought we deserved to get back in the game and if we had showed enough quality in the final third we might’ve got back in front but we didn’t.
“Started slow in second half and gave away a poor goal for the second.
“I think we missed an awful lot of opportunities to create chances, we should’ve made more, we had chances to cross the ball better and didn’t take them, we missed big chances in the box.
“We made some chances and had one or two efforts, we’ll have to make more next week.”
    Credit: Getty
    Will history repeat itself?
    Don’t worry West Ham fans…
The last time these two sides met in a European semi-final (1976) Frankfurt won the first leg 2-1.
However, the Hammers came back to win the second leg 3-1, making the final score 4-3 on aggregate.
Will we see a similar feat next week?
    Jarrod Bowen reacts
When speaking to BT Sport, Bowen said:
“When we went 1-1 we had the chance to go and get another goal but didn’t.
“They’re a top side, we’re disappointed – we hit the bar, we hit the post.
“We didn’t want to lose at home but we’ve showed we can go away and get a result so it’s about doing that.
“It’s not what you want to do, concede a goal that early on but the reaction from the fans and us getting back into the game, we dominated and created chances even one goal down.
“They’re a good team and scored two good goals.”
“I thought I had scored the first one and it hit the post and the one at the end I just thought hit it and see what happens. Unfortunately it didn’t go in but still loads of confidence in this group.
“Antonio’s hold up play is excellent. He’s horrible to play against and to get a goal tonight hopefully gives him a bit confidence.
“We’re behind in the tie. We’ve got to face the facts that we’ve got to go there and win and that’s what we’ll try to do.”
    Credit: Alamy
    Michail Antonio reacts
When speaking to BT Sport, Antonio said:
“Today wasn’t one of our best performances. It’s two legs. We’ll go there and put in the work and you never know.
“It was not how we wanted to start the game. We got control of the game and created some chances which we didn’t take.
“It’s all to play for. It’s not over.
“We’re here to win it. We’re in it to win it. Another game to go.
“No matter where we go we believe we can beat anybody.”

Full Time – West Ham 1-2 Frankfurt
Frankfurt had their foot on the gas from the off.
The early goal injected plenty of confidence into the team which allowed them to play some fantastic football throughout.
Kamada, Kostic, Sow and Knauff were all excellent for the Eagles and caused numerous problems for the West Ham defence.
Frankfurt may have the advantage, but they have a huge task on their hands to retain the lead in next week’s fixture.
Full Time – West Ham 1-2 Frankfurt
West Ham got off to a poor start after conceding in the opening minute.

However, it didn’t take long for them to get back into the game and they quickly began to pose a threat.
Antonio equalised midway through the first half but his goal was cancelled out later on.
Bowen came close to scoring a world class goal in the final stages, but Frankfurt managed to maintain their advantage.
The Eagles are currently in the driving seat, but West Ham are still in this.

Bowen picks up the ball in midfield before driving towards the penalty area.
He attempts to send it wide to Benrahma, but Tuta is there to break down the move.

Rangnick plays down Austrian job rumours
Before the game, news emerged that Rangnick looked the favourite to take the Austrian national team job, despite previously being linked with a variety of roles higher in the club.
In his post-match conference, he played down these rumours:
Let us speak tonight about Manchester united for the rest of the season here, and I can also confirm that I will definitely continue with my consultancy role. We have agreed on the content and time of my role. I have not spoken yet with Erik. But I am more than willing to help to change things for the better. Ralf Rangnick, Manchester United boss
Tuchel calls out Havertz and Werner
The Chelsea boss looked bewildered at points this evening. Berating his players for every chance that they missed.
He was a little more relaxed in his post-match interview.
One team deserved to win, and that’s us, but we didn’t take it. It’s our responsibility to win a game where we dominated in all important areas… We were not decisive, not clinical enough… Reecey was a bit unlucky in his decisions. He could have been more precise to score and assist… Havertz and Werner did not reach their peak performance today, and if they did we would have been winners, but there’s no need to point fingers.Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea boss
    Roy Keane reacts
Roy didn’t agree with Matic’s comments, suggesting Chelsea were far better than his beloved United.
Chelsea should have won the game. United reacted well after going behind. We’ve been critical of them and they showed a little bit of pride, but still not enough. Chelsea were by far the better team… if Chelsea were clinical and took their chances, they’d have won the game comfortably.Roy Keane, pundit
“A fair result” – Nemanja Matic
Manchester United’s Serbian midfielder had his say on the result:
It was an improvement. We played against a very good team that tactically is almost perfect. They have great players and a great manager. We played a good game, it was an equal game, and 1-1 was a fair result. Tonight we looked much better than in the last couple of weeks.Nemanja Matic, Manchester United midfielder

    Manchester United 1-1 Chelsea
72, James curls in a beautiful delivery to the back post where Chelsea’s new striker, Alonso, was waiting. Lukaku nearly made contact, too.
Manchester United 1-1 Chelsea – Chelsea double change
70, Havertz and Werner make way for Lukaku and Pulisic.
Lukaku receives a very unwelcome reception from the united fans where he struggled a few seasons ago.

    That’s all from us!
A job done from Leipzig’s perspective, and Rangers will be filled with optimism for the second leg.
Join us again next week for coverage of the return fixture, take care in the meantime.
    It’s Leipzig 1-0 Rangers.
    Nkunku underwhelming.
He missed one absolute sitter, a header at the back post was off target, and his first touch let him down early.
It was not his night unfortunately, which could be a real shame for Leipzig, should Rangers pull this back in Glasgow.
However, don’t let this take away from the fact Nkunku is a special talent, he still showed flashes of excellence and technical skill, just a lack of composure when it mattered.
    Tavernier full-time Interview
On the game and Leipzig’s goal:
“Conceding off a set piece… our organization wasn’t good, it cost us. Obviously a great strike but we could’ve prevented it. So we are disappointed in that.”
“…1-0 going to Ibrox we are still well in the game and we know what we can produce back at home with our fans with us.”
On being in this position before and the managers game plan:
“Away from home we wanted to take a good result back to Ibrox and it’s only 1-0 so we know we are more than capable to bring this in our favour. We know we can be better going forwards, we still created a couple of chances… Back at home we can put in another performance.”
Tavernier gave another glowing account of himself against Leipzig.Credit: Reuters
    Joe Aribo speaks out
On whether the team felt they could break down Leipzig:
“We felt like we had a few half chances but just didn’t get the break of the ball.”
Rangers had a few chances tonight, Ryan Kent was fantastic in particular.
It could be a very different game at the Ibrox.
    Rangers on the comeback trail
They may have lost this one but it is not over just yet.
Don’t forget that they lost the first leg of the last round 1-0 against Braga, and this could almost suit them heading back to the Ibrox.
RB Leipzig may think they can hold onto their lead, but if they sit back and defend then Rangers will very likely get a goal at home.
Rangers celebrate the winner against Braga.Credit: Getty
Full Time. Leipzig 1 Rangers 0.
It is full time at the Red Bull Arena, with a late Angelino volley being the difference.
Stay with us for post match analysis of the game, and do not count Rangers out just yet, this tie is far from over.
    Goldson and Tavernier yellow cards
90+2. Goldson and Tavernier receive yellow cards in quick succession.
Leipzig have a free kick on the far left side that comes to nothing.
    Three added minutes.
    90. Three added minutes here.
    Two more Leipzig changes.
    89. Leipzig look to the bench again.
It is two more changes for the side in red and white.
Henrichs and Nkunku have left the field, to allow Poulson and Mukiele to enter the fray.
    Leipzig to see it out
    88. Leipzig will be looking to defend for the rest of this tie, you had a feeling they might grab a winner tonight, and have done so in spectacular fashion.
Angelino celebrates what looks to be the winner.Credit: Reuters
    Volleyed home by Angelino
    85. The Spaniard smashes home a volley into the bottom left corner when it falls to him on the edge of the box.
It is 1-0 Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena, and it is fair to call it deserved.
    Goal. 1-0 Leipzig.
    85. It’s Angelino on the volley!
    Rangers double change
    83. Rangers are making a double substitution now.
It is Jack and Aribo coming off.
This allows Arfield and Sands to join the action.
    Can they nick it?
    83. Both teams looking to nick a late goal, but it is still Leipzig who look the more likely.
Benjamin Henrichs is the latest Leipzig player to claim a penalty to no avail.
Desperate times call for desperate measures I suppose.
    Nkunku misses AGAIN.
    80. He will be thinking it is not his night.
A cross comes in from the left hand side and Nkunku wins the header at the back post.
It is by no means an easy chance, but a £50M rated attacker should be getting that on target.
Nkunku is supported by team mates after his earlier miss.Credit: Getty
    Tavernier fuming
    77. Tavernier does brilliantly to bring the ball out of defence but is forced to lump it to nobody, he needs an option coming out from the back, and expresses it to his team mates.
    Kent effort
    75. Kent receives the ball wide on the left hand side, he whips a shot towards the far post, but it is claimed easily by Peter Gulacsi.
    Leipzig double change
    73. After the chance of the match was squandered, Leipzig have made their first two changes.
Emil Forsberg has entered the fray, as well as Andre Silva.
It is Dani Olmo and Dominik Szoboszlai who make way.
    A shocker.
    70. It is reminiscent of Fernando Torres against Manchester United, he goes around McGregor, he just has to hit the target.
He has hit it high and wide of the goal.
Erik Ten Hag, Mikel Arteta, are you watching?
    Sitter!
    70. Nkunku has missed a sitter!
    Rangers Change!
    68. Rangers make the first substitution of the match, it is Fashion JR coming on for Wright in an attacking change for the Glasgow side.
    Tricky Kent
    68. He has been excellent for Rangers, and gets another silky nutmeg after a slip in his own half. Baller.
    Leipzig look blunt.
    67. They started off well in this game, looking promising in the first half especially.
But since the start of the second half their pace in the build up has slowed down, and not as many chances are being created.
Surely Leipzig boss Tedesco will be looking towards the substitutes bench in order to gain an edge in this one.
    More of the same…
    64. Adams looks for the foul this time, and his shorts come down with him.
The spectators at the Red Bull Arena didn’t expect to see that tonight.
    Nkunku down, again.
    61. He might be an excellent goalscorer and playmaker, but he is going down under the slightest of challenges tonight as he looks for another foul.
The referee waves away his claim once more.

    Rodgers still remaining confident
Brendan Rodgers has said that his team had to come through ties against two extremely good sides in Rennes and PSV Eindhoven.
Feeling this should give them confidence to go and get the job done at the Stadio Olimpico.
They will need to go and play their game but more importantly, they need to find a way to break down Mourinho’s tactics and Roma’s resolute defence.
All roads to lead to Albania
Leicester will need to write another chapter in their club’s history if they are to progress to the final at Arena Kombëtare.
A famous win in Rome with the prize being a trip to Albania.
Brendan Rodgers may be forgiven for resting players in the league games before then as they try to get their hands on some silverware.
    Sorcerer versus apprentice
Brendan Rodgers never refutes the fact that he learnt his trade at Chelsea under the tutorship of Jose Mourinho.
The Irish manager believes he learned a lot from that spell in his fledgling coaching career.
Mourinho will feel tactically he got the better of his old mate today.
A draw is a far better result for his side but Rodgers will be quietly content that they do not go to Rome a goal behind.

    Rodgers’ task to sack Rome
Leicester will face a tough task as they travel to Italy next week.
At the Stadio Olimpico the Roma fans will make it a cauldron of noise.
Not many English teams have come away from there with anything to show for their efforts.
The Foxes will need to be on top of their game to progress to the final.
    FT: Leicester 1-1 Roma

All square at the King Power Stadium.
It will be winner takes all in the Italian capital.
    Leicester 1-1 Roma
    90+4. Lookman’s night has taken a dip.
The goal has been changed to a Mancini own goal.
Roma look content with this draw now.

    Leicester 1-1 Roma
90+2. The game has become a midfield battle.
    Neither goal threatened currently.
Tielemans is penalised for a foul which plays into the visitor’s hands.
    Leicester 1-1 Roma
    90. We are going to have five additional minutes.
Last chance for Leicester to get their noses in front in this tie.
Roma are looking to run down the clock.
    Leicester 1-1 Roma
    88. Chris Smalling hits the deck after Iheanacho catches him with an arm to the face.
The medics come on to give the ex-Man Utd defender some treatment.
Replays show he was caught and it seems they are treating a bleeding nose.
    Leicester 1-1 Roma
    86. Mourinho is as animated as ever on the touchline.
Leicester are making Roma work for this draw.
They are one final pass away from victory, it just seems to elude their attacking play as it breaks down once again.

    Leicester 1-1 Roma
    84. Perez comes on for Leicester, replacing Lookman.
Rodgers is happy with his run out today.
Fresh legs to create some problems for Roma.
    Leicester 1-1 Roma
    82. We are into the final ten minutes of the game.
There is a feeling that there is another goal in this.
Maddison is chopped down out wide but the referee plays an advantage as Leicester continue to attack.
Leicester 1-1 Roma – Oliviera chance
    80. Great play from Tammy Abraham.
He looks like a different player from the one at Chelsea.
Setting up Oliviera with a nifty backheel, Schmeichel is called into action with a smart save.
