Chelsea XI: Mendy; Chalobah, Thiago Silva, Rudiger; James, Jorginho, Kovacic, Alonso; Mount, Pulisic; Lukaku
Liverpool XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Thiago, Keita; Salah, Mane, Diaz

    Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool
    21. Robertson brings the ball out of defence and, when no challenge is forthcoming, decides to keep on goal.
The Scot makes it within 25 yards of the Chelsea goal before forced into a decision. Leaning back, the left-back fires over the crossbar from long range.
    Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool
    20. Mendy is called into action again, this time needed to rush off his line to beat compatriot Mane to the ball.
The Chelsea goalkeeper does as required, but takes a whack for his trouble and is now holding his foot.
    Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool
    18. Thiago can’t believe the referee’s decision as he is penalised for a sliding challenge on Kovacic 30 yards from goal.
Replays suggest that the Liverpool midfielder should just be grateful not to receive a yellow card for what is actually a cynical foul.
Chelsea pack the penalty box, and then Alonso goes straight for goal from the free-kick. It’s straight at Alisson.
    Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool
    16. Chelsea finally make a move into the Liverpool half, and show they can trouble the Reds.
James’ chipped centre falls for Lukaku, but a handball from the striker is penalised by Craig Pawson a split-second before Pulisic fires the lay off wide.
    Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool
    14. Diaz bursts into the space between James and Chalobah for the fifth time in the opening quarter of an hour, and looks set to reach Henderson’s pass.
Thankfully for Chelsea, this time the offside flag comes to their rescue.
    Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool
    12. Diaz is running riot on that side against Chalobah.
Thiago slips the former Benfica forward in this time, who again lines up a strike on goal.
Both Diaz’s shot, and Alexander-Arnold’s follow-up are blocked by some desperate Chelsea defending.
    Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool
    11. Both Sarr and Azpilicueta are warming up for Chelsea, but it looks as though Thiago Silva is going to stay on – for now.
    Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool
    10. In the midst of that scramble, Thiago Silva has hurt himself and looks in real discomfort.
His immediate response was to slam the turf in a combination of pain and frustration, and that’s never a good sign.
    Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool
    8. And again!
A wonderful pass from Alexander-Arnold sends Diaz through, and this time the forward goes for goal himself.
His shot is blocked by the feet of Mendy, and then scooped away by Thiago Silva.
The loose ball is then smothered away from the lurking Salah, only for Keita to slam wide.
Chelsea are on the ropes here.
    Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool
    7. Liverpool threaten again with Diaz on the left, who is fed through on goal by Keita.
The Colombian gets to the byline, and squeezes in a low cross that somehow evades both Mane and Salah.
    Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool
    6. Ouch! Salah cuts inside from the right wing, and unleashes a thunderous strike.
It’s going nowhere near the goal, but does slam straight into the face of nearby Jorginho, knocking the Chelsea man clean off his feet.
A quick spell of treatment later, and the Italian is up again and ready to continue.
    Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool
    4. The first chance of the game!
Diaz makes a yard of space for himself inside the area, and fires a left-footed shot across goal.
It’s off target but loops up and only just evades the oncoming Thiago at the far post.
    Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool
    3. An early touch for Mendy in the Chelsea goal, who takes his time and then picks out James a clearance.
Co-incidentally, when the teams and substitutes were read out before kick-off, the Liverpool supporters booed each of the Chelsea squad bar one.
    The ‘lucky’ person? Kepa Arrizabalaga.
    Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool
    2. The immediate thing to observe is that it looks really hot out there.
A third of the Wembley pitch is under the shadow of the stadium, but the end that Liverpool are attacking is drenched in sunlight.
In short, it is proper FA Cup final weather.
    Kick-off – Chelsea v Liverpool
    1. Craig Pawson blows his whistle and we’re away!
Chelsea, all in yellow this afternoon, get the FA Cup final going with kick-off from Lukaku.
“Liverpool in the red, naturally,” confirms Guy Mowbray.
    Here come the two teams!
A roar goes up around Wembley as the two sets of players emerge from the tunnel, and stride across the pitch to take their place for the pre-match formalities.
This year they include a meet-and-greet with President-Designate Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, and the national anthem sung by RAYE.
The two squads then come together with the Ukrainian flag to show solidarity with those suffering due to the ongoing conflict with Russia.
The pitch is eventually cleared of all the cup final hullaballoo. Now it’s time for the football.
    The countdown to kick-off
It’s almost time for the action, and the atmosphere is hotting up.

    Tuchel grateful for final challenge
Chelsea have lost the last two FA Cup finals, the last of which was to Leicester in Thomas Tuchel’s first season at the club.
Like his Liverpool counterpart, the Blues boss is fully aware of the competition’s tradition, and hopes to end a troublesome season in style by taking the trophy back to Stamford Bridge.
To be here for a final means a lot to me. This is such a prestigious and traditional competition to be part of it, and to have the chance to play in two finals in short notice. It means much to me.”
We are very grateful to arrive here after our circumstances. It will be a tough match.Thomas TuchelITV Sport
Klopp desperate for FA Cup success
Jurgen Klopp has been a sensation since arriving in England to take charge of Liverpool, but the FA Cup remains a trophy that has evaded the German’s grasp.
Incredibly, the Anfield club had not made it beyond the fifth round under his management until this season.
However, the Reds boss is hoping to put that record right this afternoon, and is well aware of the competition’s history and tradition.
To avoid any doubt, I absolutely love this competition. I recognise its importance in our club’s own history and how much it means to our supporters.
I was blessed to have great experiences back in Germany with our own version, but I am fully aware of the tradition, sentiment and regard English football holds for the FA Cup.
To be honest, it does have a special place in the hearts of supporters even beyond these shores. Up until this season, Liverpool’s record in the tournament since my arrival has not been a reason for big parties I would admit.Jurgen KloppBBC
    Old man for big occasion
Chelsea’s one change from the 3-0 win at Leeds sees Thiago Silva recalled to Thomas Tuchel’s back three.
In taking his place at kick-off at 37 years and 234 days old, the Brazilian will become the oldest outfield player since 38-year-old Stanley Matthews in the 1953 final for Blackpool.
Perhaps this afternoon will come to be known as the Thiago Silva Final.
    Havertz hamstring ends final hopes
Kai Havertz has made a habit of starring for Chelsea in cup finals, but he’ll have no part to play this afternoon.
The German was a surprise absentee from the Blues matchday squad when the teams were announced half hour ago.
However, it has since been revealed that the forward is struggling with a hamstring problem, having failed a fitness test this morning.
    Captain Jordan leads the way
By returning to Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI this afternoon, Jordan Henderson enters illustrious company by becoming only the third Liverpool player to captain the club in the final of the League Cup, FA Cup and European Cup.
The 31-year-old joins Steven Gerrard and Emlyn Hughes in achieving an inspirational treble.

Kante and Azpilicueta among Chelsea subs
    1 Kepa, 7 Kante, 11 Werner, 12 Loftus-Cheek, 17 Saul, 18 Barkley, 22 Ziyech, 28 Azpilicueta, 31 Sarr
    Lukaku leads line for Blues
It’s just the one change for Chelsea following midweek success at Leeds – but it’s not the one that most were expecting.
And that’s because Mateo Kovacic has completed a sensational return to fitness after falling victim to that wild Dan James challenge at Elland Road.
The Croatian takes his place in midfield, and will play alongside skipper Jorginho.
Instead, it’s the want-away Andreas Christensen that loses his place, making way in the back three for Thiago Silva.
However, it’s the absence of Kai Havertz from the matchday squad completely that has left Blues fans scratching their social media heads.
Romelu Lukaku keeps his place up front after two goals in two games, and heads a 3-4-2-1 formation for Thomas Tuchel.
    16 Mendy; 14 Chalobah, 6 Thiago Silva, 3 Rudiger; 24 James, 5 Jorginho, 8 Kovacic, 3 Alonso; 19 Mount, 10 Pulisic; 9 Lukaku

    On the Reds substitutes bench
    62 Kelleher, 7 Milner, 9 Firmino, 12 Gomez, 17 Jones, 20 Jota, 21 Tsimikas, 27 Origi, 32 Matip

But in more positive news, United have reportedly been given the all clear to sign Frenkie de Jong by Barcelona boss Xavi.
Erik Ten Hag is a long-time admirer of his fellow compatriot and is said to be eager to bring de Jong to Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, English star Jude Bellingham has turned his nose up at the chance to sign for United in the summer.
And Cristiano Ronaldo has stated that everybody in the squad is ‘excited’ to work with the new boss according to the official club website.

Toon head Utd and Chelsea in Ekitike race
Newcastle are closing in on Chelsea and Manchester United target Hugo Ekitike.
90min say the Toon believe they can soon complete a deal for the Reims striker, 19.
It’s claimed Newcastle wee hovering for Ekitike in January and that negotiations have continued.
The teenager is enjoying a breakthrough season, with Reims 12th in Ligue 1.
Red Devils look stern in training
United’s under-fire players are putting in the extra hours in the training pitch today due to their extra-long break.
Ralf Rangnick’s men are without a game until ending the season at Crystal Palace on Sunday, March 22.

And judging on the snaps below, the Red Devils didn’t seem too happy.
Portugal superstars Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes, in particular, looked deep in thought.
Maybe they are thinking about the fact Erik Ten Hag is tipped to be at Selhurst Park to watch them for the first time as incoming permanent boss.

Prem giants battle Barca for Lewandowski
Robert Lewandowski wants to leave Bayern Munich this summer, the Bundesliga giants have confirmed.
The Pole has been linked with a move to Barcelona, having snubbed a new deal at Bayern.
Lewandowski’s deal has one year left to run.

Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic told Sky Germany: “I spoke with Lewa.
“In that discussion he informed me that he does not want to accept our offer to extend the contract and that he would like to leave the club.
“He said he wants to do something else. But our position has not changed.
“The fact is he has a contract to June 30, 2023.”
According to The Times, Barca have agreed a three-year deal with Lewandowski and believe they can sign him for a fee between £25million and £35m.
Fren’s an enemy of Utd style
Man United have been urged not to sign Barcelona star Frenkie De Jong.
The midfielder isn’t the right fit for Man United’s set-up, according to Steve Nicol.
He said: “If there’s one thing he doesn’t like it’s when there are people scurrying around him, closing him down, and I’m not so sure he’s the greatest at doing it the other way around.
“So if he goes to Man United, how’s he going to get the ball? Because they don’t have anybody to get him the ball.”
    Kane tipped for United transfer
Harry Kane has been tipped to join Man United if Antonio Conte leaves Tottenham.
That’s the view of Italian super agent Roberto De Fanti.
He told CaughtOffside: “If Conte does walk away from Tottenham Hotspur, I think Kane will go too.
“And if that does happen, the only club the Englishman would want to go to now is Manchester United.”
    Man United’s most-important duo
Man United skipper Harry Maguire has often come under fire this season, but his stats since the summer prove he is actually one of the club’s two MOST-IMPORTANT players.
Fred too has been subject to criticism at times, despite enjoying something of a revival before his recent injury setback.
But the pair actually boast the highest Premier League win percentage out of anyone who has played 10 or more games for United this season.
Brazilian midfielder Fred has helped United pick up three points in 14 of his 27 Prem clashes, a win percentage of 51.9 percent.
Maguire’s win percentage meanwhile is the second best at the club.
The newly-married England defender has won 15 of his 29 Prem games, a win percentage of 51.7 percent.
    Roo must be joking
Man United and England legend Wayne Rooney looked unrecognisable as his court sketch left fans in stitches.
The Derby County boss, 36, was at London’s High Court for his wife Coleen’s legal battle with Rebekah Vardy.
After the opening day of court, a sketch of ex-Everton, United and Three Lions star Rooney sat alongside Coleen in the courtroom emerged online.
And it had fans in stitches as they quickly began taking the mick on Twitter.

    Ten Hag set for visit
Erik ten Hag could be in attendance for Man United’s last game of the season.
Ten Hag will take the reins at Old Trafford this summer.
But The Athletic have reported that the Dutchman may be in the stands to get a preview of his new club in action.
However, the report states that Ten Hag’s presence is yet to be confirmend.
    Why Man United aren’t playing
The FA Cup final has impacted Man United’s Premier League schedule.
Man Utd were supposed to play Chelsea at home this weekend, but the Blues made it to the FA Cup final against Liverpool.
    Therefore, the match was rescheduled.
    Ferdinand’s De Jong hopes
Rio Ferdinand insists Frenkie De Jong will be a great signing for Man United.
He said: “He doesn’t get too many goals or assists but he gives you many more elements of the game that, I think United need as a team; especially in that position.
“United are definitely losing Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic, and Juan Mata, they are all leaving in that position, so it does need reinforcement.
“And I think he would be a fantastic signing, if this deal goes ahead.”
    United face De Jong fight
Man United face a fight prising Frenkie De Jong away from Barcelona.
That’s because Barca boss Xavi has revealed that De Jong is still very much part of his plans going forward – despite United’s interest.
Xavi declared: “I have said many times that Frenkie is very important. He’s a key player.
“Then there is also the financial situation of the club and it has to be decided. I’m not talking about Frenkie, in general.”
    Gary Neville’s Prem predictions resurface
Gary Neville has been left red-faced after his pre-season Premier League predictions resurfaced on social media.
The Manchester United legend reckoned the Red Devils were going to finish THIRD in the table.
But in actual fact United have already guaranteed a worst-ever Premier League points total, and the best Ralf Rangnick’s flops can end up is sixth.
But despite Neville getting that particular prediction horribly wrong, it’s arguably not even his worst guess on the list.
Neville did have Manchester City down to be champions and Chelsea and Liverpool to finish in the top four, but that’s about as far as he got in terms of success.
    Stay away from De Jong
Man United have been urged not to sign Barcelona star Frenkie De Jong.
The midfielder isn’t the right fit for Man United’s set-up, according to Steve Nicol.
He said: “If there’s one thing he doesn’t like it’s when there are people scurrying around him, closing him down, and I’m not so sure he’s the greatest at doing it the other way around.
“So if he goes to Man United, how’s he going to get the ball? Because they don’t have anybody to get him the ball.”
    Mulling over Man United move
Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller has revealed he was close to joining Man United when Louis Van Gaal was boss.
Muller told Merkur: “Bayern clearly rejected the whole thing – despite this insane offer from United.
“[But it was a] huge vote of confidence from Bayern.”
Man United stars coach choice fury
Man United stars are reportedly not happy with the coaching levels at the club.
The United squad don’t think American coaches Rangnick’s coaches Chris Armas and Ewan Sharp are up to the standard set Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s personnel unit, according to The Athletic.
Armas and Sharp’s predecessors Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna were more suited to the task, the report states.
    Three youth players receive promotion
Man United have reportedly promoted three youth stars to their first team.
But Youth FA Cup hero Alejandro Garnacho surprisingly didn’t make the cut, the Mirror reported.
The 17-year-old’s team-mates Alvaro Fernandez, Shola Shoretire and Teden Mengi received the call-up instead.
And the trio could feature in United’s match against Crystal Palace, the report also stated.
    Ronaldo’ makes trophy declaration
Cristiano Ronaldo claims Man United will win trophies next season under Erik ten Hag.
Ronaldo told United’s media: “I hope we have success, of course, because, if you have success, all of Manchester is going to have success as well. I wish him the best.
“We are happy and excited, not only as players, but the supporters as well.
“I wish him the best and let’s believe that, next year, we are going to win trophies.”
    Prem giants in Ndicka battle
Man United have reportedly joined the race for Eintracht Frankfurt centre-back Evan Ndicka.
The 22-year-old has impressed this season, helping the German outfit to reach the Europa League final.
And his form has caught the attention of Manchester United, according to Sport Bild.
It’s claimed the Red Devils are ready to rival Newcastle to the signing of the highly rated Frenchman.

    Dybala transfer scramble
Paulo Dybala’s agent is reportedly in London to hold transfer talks with Premier League clubs.
The 28-year-old forward is set to leave Juventus in the summer upon the expiry of his contract.
And there’s no shortage of interest in the Argentina international from the Prem.
Dybala’s agent, Jorge Antun, is currently in the capital to listen to offers from the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United, according to Calciomercato.
    Good morning Red Devils fans
Man Utd target Arnaut Danjuma is available for £45million this summer.
Marca claims the bargain release clause kicks in following his stunning season in Spain.
Danjuma fired Villarreal to the Champions League semis straight after joining from Championship side Bournemouth.
But he could now be set for an immediate Premier League return, with Liverpool also interested.
Meanwhile, SunSport can exclusively reveal Man Utd’s shambolic end to the season reached a new low when two senior players had a full-on scrap at Carrington.
The shocking incident came towards the end of a training session at their base on Thursday.
The duo went at it and had to be pulled apart.
It brought the session to a premature end as all the team’s stars were ordered back to the changing rooms.
Even players used to bust-ups between team-mates were stunned.
Finally, Man Utd will oversee a transfer “revolution” under Erik ten Hag this summer.
Fabrizio Romano said: “It’s gonna be a revolution, I’m sure about that. I see a United revolution in the summer.
“Many players leaving on a free, Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic.
“Also players that are still in the club with a contract, who want to discuss directly with Ten Hag about their future.
“Marcus Rashford, this is going to be a really interesting one because he’s out of contract in one year, with an option to extend for future seasons.”
    Ronaldo hints at United stay
Cristiano Ronaldo has dropped his biggest hint yet that he will remain at Man Utd under Erik ten Hag.
Ronaldo said: “I know that he has done a fantastic job at Ajax, and that he is an experienced coach. But we have to give him time.
“Things must change the way he wants. If he does well, all of Manchester United will be successful, so I wish him well.
“We are all happy and excited, not only as players, but as fans as well. We have to believe that next year we can win titles.”

    Dom ‘n gloom
Arsenal and Newcastle have received a blow in their pursuit of Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Everton manager Frank Lampard has now insisted the England international is in his long-term plans.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Brentford, he said: “He is a fantastic striker, the pedigree of striker that there aren’t many around. It’s been unfortunate for me, I think, that I haven’t had him fit.
“He’s had little moments but we know that strikers – particularly out of any position – need runs of games and fitness and confidence.
“We’ve never been able to get that for Dominic to be fair to him. But yeah, he’s a huge player, they are not very common. He is contracted to us, three years left on his contract, and I want to take this club forward and players like Dominic help that.
“I know he hasn’t been playing at the minute because he’s been getting fit, but now he’s fit, so hopefully he will contribute in the last few games for starters and then he’s our player.
“He’s a player that would be wanted by clubs because of the level of player he is.
“There are not many strikers out there, they cost a lot of money. I’m not worried about him at all.”
    Kamara posts health update
Chris Kamara has posted a photo of him inside an oxygen chamber as he continues to battle his speech condition.

Shortly after the announcement, he confirmed that he was leaving Sky Sports football show Soccer Saturday after 24 years on the programme.
And the fan favourite, who has continued with presenting The Games on ITV, gave an update to his followers on Saturday morning.
Speaking on social media, he said: “6 enjoyable days working on The Games 🥳 .
“Back in the Oxygen chamber today 😷 as the recovery continues 👌🏽.”

    PSG plan keeper clear-out
Paris Saint-Germain are planning to sell multiple goalkeepers this summer with the club set to make Gianluigi Donnarumma their undisputed No1.
French outlet L’Equipe claim PSG have selected Donnarumma, 23, to be first choice next season ending his competition with Keylor Navas.
Donnarumma has played 23 times in all competitions while Navas has featured on 25 occasions.
As a result of the decision, the Costa Rican keeper could be set for a move away from the Parc des Princes with Newcastle and Juventus reportedly interested.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have been hoarding goalkeepers but reportedly now want to offload the majority of them – including Alphonse Areola, Sergio Rico and Marcin Bulka. All three have been out on loan this season.
    Villa join Aribo transfer race
Aston Villa have joined the Premier League chase for Rangers star Joe Aribo.
The Nigeria international was a key figure when Villa boss Steven Gerrard led the Gers to last season’s Scottish Premiership title.
And the pair could be reunited with the versatile midfielder tipped to return south of the border this summer amid interest from Crystal Palace, Brentford and other top-flight English clubs.
    Real Madrid plot Wolves raid
Real Madrid are reportedly considering a swoop for Wolves starlet Fabio Silva.

    Vinicius Junior’s bumper new contract
Real Madrid are preparing to offer Vinicius Junior a new £8.4million-a-year contract, according to reports.
The improved deal is also set to include a €1billion release clause in a bid to fend off future interest.
According to Marca, the club are set to offer him a lucrative new deal which will keep him contracted at the Bernabeu until 2028.
And the £8.5m per annum that he is set to earn will be a huge increase from the £2.5m he currently earns.
Talks are said to be “very advanced” between the player and club, with Vinicius “wanting to stay” at Madrid.

When asked about if he has concerns about the media noise regarding Lukaku ahead of such a big game, Tuchel responded: “I was only made aware of it five or ten minutes ago, actually. It’s what sometimes happens in football.
“The attention is so high that sometimes it attracts situations that you don’t want to have before big matches. It’s the way it is.

He said, “It’s pretty surprising to be in the situation where we can try, and Mateo wants to try it – and the medical department gave the green light to try it.
“The ‘advantage’ is the ligament is torn already from the last incident (in the FA Cup semi-final), so there is no new injury, just heavy pain. His ankle was heavily swollen.
“We are hoping that maybe time is enough for him to make it. We will try in two-and-a-half hours in training, and we will know more about it.”

“So very close, very intense matches. We always need our very highest level to compete, but we found it in the matches.
“We want to be spot on.”

Chelsea should sign Lewandowski says Johnson
Glen Johnson believes Chelsea should make a move for Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski.

The ex-full-back said, “He is a more realistic signing, but these top, world-class strikers are hard to find.

Johnson claims James is better than Trent
Glen Johnson continued to say that he thinks Reece James is better than Trent Alexander-Arnold.
He sid: “It’s tough because I think they’re both fantastic.
“I think Trent is just about better on the ball and certainly has got a better delivery, but to be fair to Reece that sounds harsh because he’s fantastic as well.

Johnson says Mount his PL Player of the Year
Former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson has said that Mason Mount is his Premier League Player of the Season.
Despite the midfielder not being nominated for the official award, Johnson claims he should win it.
He said to Lord Ping, “I wouldn’t say he’s gone under the radar because he’s been great, but everything Chelsea do well, Mason is involved.
“Even though they’ve not hit the heights they are capable of this season, he’s always performed.
“He always works his socks off, he’s always involved in chances and goals so I’d probably go for Mason Mount.”

“She always wears my shirt, above all for finals. She wore it in the Champions League final and other competitions, the Club World Cup

“I’ve played against them, and I didn’t see this kind of personality when we destroyed United in the Champions League final.”

“And after the last four league games we scored 19 goals so we have incredible personality and these kind of things?

“I watched him closely in the Champions League semi-final year, I got to see a lot of him as part of the BT team.
“They’re saying Frenkie de Jong could be the first player to come in under Erik ten Hag and I would be saying ‘yes, great signing’.
“He’s not huge in terms of frame but he is quick with the ball, really good dribbler, can get out of tight situations, makes good decisions, good passer, his balance and dribbling ability are really good.
“(United) are a team who are looking for players who can control the ball and control the game and get the team functioning in terms of balance and possession, I think he would be a good addition.
“He’s not a player who scores loads of goals like Bruno Fernandes, but he’s more about dictating the game.”

The career of Man Utd forward Anthony Martial has stagnated after another underwhelming year at Old Trafford followed by a loan spell at Sevilla where he has netted just one goal.

Ordinarily, rescheduled games due to the FA Cup are put back to the approaching midweek.
