    Nkunku addresses future
RB Leipzig star and Chelsea target Christopher Nkunku has spoken about his future.
Nkunku said: “Paris [Paris Saint-Germain], I’ve always said it, it’s my home, my heart club. I don’t close any doors. Everything is possible in football.
“It’s flattering to have the biggest clubs in the world interested in me.
“But it’s also flattering that Leipzig is doing everything to keep me.
“We are in June, and I am focused on this gathering.”
    Luk not on his side
Former Arsenal ace Paul Merson believes loaning out Romelu Lukaku won’t do the club any good.
He said: “Lukaku has been disappointing all season.
“‘He started well against Arsenal and we all thought, ‘Okay, here we go!’
“We haven’t seen him do that again since – he just never got going.
“If Chelsea can get their £100million or anywhere near that amount back for him this summer, they’ll sell him.
“A loan would be of no use to anybody – it wouldn’t help Thomas Tuchel one bit.’
    Merson doubts Rudiger’s potential replacement
Paul Merson believes that Jules Kounde and Kalidou Koulibaly may not be able to replace Antonio Rudiger.
The Arsenal icon told Sportskeeda: “Antonio Rudiger’s been absolutely outstanding for Chelsea.
“I can’t remember him having a bad game if I’m being honest.
“He’s been consistently brilliant in the Premier League this season. Rudiger’s going to be a massive miss for Thomas Tuchel next season.
‘He’s going to be a hard one to replace, and I’m not sure if the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly and Jules Kounde can fill his boots.
“If there is a worry for Chelsea this year, it’s finding Rudiger’s replacement.”
    Lukaku tight-lipped over future
Romelu Lukaku has refused to be drawn on transfer links away from Chelsea.
The Belgian is currently on international duty, and is set to take on the Netherlands in the Nations League tonight.
Speaking to the press ahead of the match, Lukaku was asked about rumours that he is willing to take a pay cut to leave the Blues and return to Inter Milan.
The 29-year-old wouldn’t clear up speculation, however, saying: “I can’t talk about the future.”
Lukaku has been linked with the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich this summer.
But the forward reportedly has his heart set on an Inter return.
    Palmieri delivers update on future
Chelsea left-back Emerson Palmieri has revealed he would be happy to return to Stamford Bridge after his Lyon loan spell.
Speaking to Goal, he said: “‘I didn’t speak with [Thomas Tuchel] just yet.
“I have a contract with Chelsea. I played there for three seasons and I have a lot of friends there.
“If I come back, I’ll be happy. It’s a good place and club for me. Let’s see what can happen.
“Lyon said ‘no’ [to a return in January] so I didn’t come back. It didn’t depend on me. Those conversations were between the clubs.
“Lyon said ‘no’ and I respected that because when I signed there I signed for one year, not six months.
“But now I will go back to Chelsea in the pre-season I think and let’s see what happens in the next month.”
Lazio ready to fight Utd for Loftus-Cheek
Lazio could duel Manchester United for Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
The ten-cap England star, 26, has revived his Blues’ career this season under Thomas Tuchel.
But new United boss Erik ten Hag has been linked with a move.
And  Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport says ex-Blues’ chief Maurizio Sarri is ready to rev up his interest in a reunion with Loftus-Cheek, who might cost at least £17million.
Costa provides insight into Kante relationship
Former Chelsea striker Diego Costa has revealed he tried to hug N’Golo Kante NAKED during their time together at Stamford Bridge.
And the maverick forward even declared that the French midfielder refused to strip down when taking a shower.
Speaking on Canal Pilhado, Costa said: “At Chelsea, I would try to hug Kante joking. He’s really shy.
“I would go all naked in the bath and be like: ‘Kante, give me a hug!’ and he would be all ‘No. no, Diego’.
“He doesn’t even take off his underwear to take a shower.”
    Jul in the crown
Chelsea are reportedly convinced they will sign Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde this summer.
The Blues missed out on the Frenchman’s signature last year after the LaLiga outfit raised their asking price at the last minute.
But Chelsea have retained their interest in the player as Thomas Tuchel looks to finally secure his services.
And according to Spanish outlet ABC Sevilla, Chelsea are hopeful they can reach an agreement between £43million-£51m.
Sevilla were adamant in 2021 that he wouldn’t be sold unless his £68m release clause was activated.
    Sturridge released Down Under
Former Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge has been released by Australian side Perth Glory.
The 32-year-old made the move down under in October 2021 but failed to score in six appearances for the club.
Injuries also hampered Sturridge’s spell at Perth, missing 16 games in a season which saw the side finish bottom of the 12-team A-League.
Perth won just four in 26 games.
Prior to his stint in Australia, Sturridge decided to move to Turkey to play for Trabzonspor in 2019.
But his three-year deal was terminated the following March as he was given a four-month worldwide ban for breaching betting rules.

    Lampard in Chelsea raid
Chelsea are set to be raided by club legend and Everton manager Frank Lampard for Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour, according to reports.
Lampard is understood to be in the market for some quality midfielders this summer after his Toffees side left it late to complete their relegation escape.
The former Chelsea manager will use his ‘connections’ with The Blues in order to lure the likes of Gallagher and Gilmour to Goodison Park, as reported by the Mail.
Gallagher, 22, spent last season on loan at Crystal Palace, earning himself a nomination for the Premier League Young Player of the Year award.
Meanwhile, Gilmour also found himself out on loan, albeit in a far less successful capacity as Norwich were relegated from the Premier League.
Both Gallagher and Gilmour face uncertain futures back at parent club Chelsea, with a squad already filled with established seniors set to be reinforced in the coming window.
    Sterling ‘should avoid Chelsea move’
David James says Raheem Sterling would be better off staying at Manchester City rather than joining Chelsea.
England winger Sterling has been linked with a move to the Blues or Real Madrid.
Former Three Lions No 1 James, 51, told GGRecon: “[He should] stay at City!
“It is a testament to how well Raheem Sterling has done that he has been linked to two massive European champions.
“You do question – given how soon the World Cup is, and what can happen with a move with Manchester to London for example – whether that adjustment could affect form.”
    Luk-ing to the future
Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku could be on the move to either Barcelona or Bayern Munich.
The Blues’ record £97.5million signing is facing an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge with Inter Milan desperate to bring him back to the San Siro.
But according to Mundo Deportivo, Barca will look to sign the Belgian ace should they fail to land Robert Lewandowski.
And it has been said that Bayern will press ahead with a move for Lukaku if they cannot reach an agreement with Liverpool for Sadio Mane.
    Bent continued
“I don’t know if Chelsea fans will want him to join but I wonder if some of the players would. Footballers will think differently to fans.
“There will be a real admiration for Paul Pogba amongst other players in the Premier League, from the players who have played against him.
‘I think other players, players in the Chelsea squad, will think ‘I would love a player like that to come here’.
“Fans will see it differently and say ‘he doesn’t work hard enough, it didn’t work at United, why would we want him?’
“But players think differently. It will be the same with Liverpool. Fans might think he wouldn’t suit the system, but I bet there’s Liverpool players who would want him.”
Bent ponders England stay for Pogba
Darren Bent has declared that Chelsea and Liverpool’s players would love their respective clubs to snap up Paul Pogba on a free transfer.
The talkSPORT pundit said: “When you look at his stats for Manchester United, they’re not that bad. That’s not horrible stats, they’re okay.
“For someone with that much quality, the most frustrating thing is when you see him put on that France shirt, you just want that level of performance for United.
“He’s playing in a good team for France, a better team. I know he hasn’t been good enough [for United] but he is a good player. He hasn’t been a success but he has won two trophies there.
“It hasn’t worked and they’ve paid a lot of money for a footballer who’s now leaving for nothing.”
    Pulisic wants more playing time
Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic has admitted he needs to playing more next season amid rumours linking him with a move away from Stamford Bridge.
The American started just 13 games in the Premier League, with the player falling down the pecking order under Thomas Tuchel.
Commenting on his future, he said: “As far as right now, I’m obviously just focused on what I’m doing here. And I’m super excited to be here. And yeah, that’s it.
“Of course, I want to get more playing time. I want to be on the field as much as I can and be the sharpest I can be and fit as well.
“I think I still got a lot of games, but it’s always something that I’m working at and trying to be regular at club level as well to put myself in the best position to be fit when I come here with the national team.”
    Chelsea snubbed by Solina
Goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina is set to snub Chelsea in favour of a move to Real Madrid.
The Blues had been keen on Slonina, 18, who plays in the MLS for Chicago Fire.
But Slonina’s agent, Jaime Garcia, has confirmed the teenager has his heart set on a move to Real Madrid.
He told MLSsoccer: “It should be an honour for Chicago, and the MLS, to have Real Madrid take notice in one of their players.
“We are hoping Chicago can find an agreement with Real Madrid to realise Gabriel’s dream of playing for this club.”
He added: “With respect to other clubs and other offers [which] we’ve received many, and at the moment we are gracious to those clubs but you cannot say no to Real Madrid.”

Should Arsenal complete a deal for ex-Blue Alvaro Morata, his side Juventus could move for Timo Werner, according to reports.
The German forward is seen as the ideal replacement for the Spanish striker, if he moves to the Emirates.
According to Tuttosport, Werner’s agent Volker Struth visited the Serie A club’s HQ back in April.
Werner moved to West London in 2020 for £34million, but has struggled in front of goal – scoring just 23 times in 89 games.
    Palmieri to return
Italian international Emerson Palmieri is yet to speak with Thomas Tuchel about a return to Stamford Bridge.

Palmieri enjoyed a successful campaign at Lyon last season.

    Are you Fer real?
Rio Ferdinand has revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson asked him “What the f*** are you wearing?” when he was unveiled at Old Trafford in a white suit.
The defender joined Manchester United from Leeds for around £30million in 2002.
As he was unveiled at the Theatre of Dreams, Ferdinand donned a daring white outfit as he posed for pictures alongside new boss Sir Alex.
Lifting the lid on his special day nearly 20 years on, the 43-year-old told 433: “The manager said to me on this day, he said ‘Rio, what the f*** are you wearing?’

Time isn’t on Cavani’s side but one last dance in the Italian top-flight could be on the cards.
Serie A minnows Salernitana, whose captain is Bayern Munich legend Franck Ribery, would like to bring Cavani back to Italy.
Cavani made his name in Italy, starring for Palermo and Napoli before moving on to Paris Saint-Germain.
Salernitana president Danilo Iervolino told Corriere: “I’d love to sign Edinson Cavani as free agent.

New United boss Erik ten Hag wants to bring the 22-year-old striker to Old Trafford to spearhead his rebuild of the United squad.
However, Enrique – who appeared in the Man Utd vs Liverpool legends game – declared Nunez should snub a move to Manchester in favour of joining up with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
Enrique took to his Instagram story to highlight an article which suggested Nunez was set to move to United, giving a passionate answer to the reports.
He said: “I hope this is not true and he comes to us instead.

Forgotten Man Utd midfielder Andreas Pereira will be given a chance under Erik ten Hag.
The 26-year-old hasn’t played for the Red Devils since June 2020 after enjoying loan spells at Lazio and most recently at Flamengo in his native Brazil.
But despite the player having a year left on his deal at Old Trafford, Yahoo Brasil has stated he still has a place in the United squad.
With Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata, United need more players in the middle of the pitch.
And the club’s United’s football director John Murtough is claimed to have told Pereira that Ten Hag believes he fits the desired squad profile for next season.
    Diogo, no go
Manchester United will NOT allow Diogo Dalot to depart, but they are prepared to offload Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
That is according to the Manchester Evening News.

“Things need to change the way he wants. I hope we have success, of course.
“Because if you have success all of Manchester is going to have success as well so I wish him the best.
“We are happy and excited, not only as players but the supporters as well. I wish him the best and let’s believe that next year we are going to win trophies.”

Utd eye up De Jong alternative
Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has reportedly been eyed up as a cheaper alternative to Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong.
That is according to FootballTransfer, who state that the 27-year-old is available for £59m.
Commenting on the potential deal, transfer guru Pete O’Rourke told GiveMeSport: “I think he’s somebody who United will be pursuing to bring into that midfield.
“And he’s probably more attainable than a Frenkie de Jong right now.
“So, I think United will be trying to do something on this and trying to bring him to Old Trafford despite after all these years of speculation of him possibly moving there.”
    Allegri aims dig at Dybala
Juventus manager Max Allegri has given a parting dig to Paulo Dybala amid Premier League transfer speculation.
The 28-year-old, linked with moves to Arsenal, Man Utd and Totteham, is currently a free agent after bringing an end to a seven year spell with the Old Lady.
However, the Argentina international drew criticism from former manager Allegri for attitude issues during his time at the club.
Speaking to DAZN, Allegri said: “Paulo needs to go back to being himself. There was a time where he got all carried out by those who labeled him as ‘the new Messi’ ”
“A player can’t go around trying to play, to think or to be like someone else.”
    Good morning Man Utd fans
Departing Manchester United star Paul Pogba is considering a lucrative bid to rejoin Juventus, reports suggest.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who reports that Juve are offering Pogba a salary of around €8million (£6.8m) per year plus add-ons.
The Bianconeri are now awaiting their former player’s “final answer” after United confirmed he will be leaving Old Trafford as a free agent once his contract runs out on June 30.
Manchester United forward Edinson Cavani is in talks with two Spanish clubs over a potential move, according to El Chiringuito TV.
The Uruguay legend’s deal at Old Trafford expires at the end of the month and his representatives are said to be discussing terms with Atletico Madrid and Sevilla.
Juan Mata has sent a classy farewell message to Manchester United fans.
The former Chelsea midfielder, 34, will leave United as a free agent this month.
In a social media video message, he said: “I wanted to say thank you very much to all of you for your support over the years and especially during the difficult times that we lived together.
“I will never forget you. Thank you very much. All the best from the bottom of my heart and goodbye.”
Also, with several players on high salaries leaving Old Trafford this summer, including Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani and Nemanja Matic – United could free up around £50m in wages that will boost new manager Erik ten Hag’s transfer kitty.
Juve stars would welcome back Pogba
Wojciech Szczesny says Juventus’ stars would welcome Paul Pogba back with open arms.
The Frenchman is leaving Manchester United for a second time on a free transfer at the end of the month and is in talks with ex-club Juve and Paris Saint-Germain.
Pogba quit Old Trafford for the Serie A giants in 2012 and Juve keeper Szczesny believes his club team-mates will be over the moon to see the midfielder return to Turin.
Szczesny said: “I’d be delighted to see that happen. He did brilliantly in his previous time at Juventus so he would be a great addition to the squad.
“He is a player with good calibre and experience and he has good memories from Turin.”
When asked if Pogba is still a top level player, Szczesny added: “Oh yeah. Absolutely.
“Maybe over the last couple of years the consistency of his game and the injuries didn’t help at United.
“But when he is fit, he is still one of the best in the world.”
    £50m added to war chest

“The ultimate professional, one of the best players and people you could have grace your life. I’m so thankful to have been on so many journeys with you, happy that our paths crossed, and we shared a dressing room together.
“I love you my brother, I wish you everything and absolutely nothing but joy and success in your next stage of an unbelievable career.”
    Five targets
Erik ten Haag is planning a massive overhaul of his United squad – and is targeting up to five signings, according to reports.

That is according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who reports that Juve are offering Pogba a salary of around €8million (£6.8m) per year plus add-ons.

Arsenal closing in on Jesus, writes Mark Irwin
Arsenal are increasingly confident of sealing a deal for Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus.
But Mikel Arteta is scaling back on his plans for a major spending spree after initially targeting up to seven new signings.
Now he might have to settle for just three new faces as Arsenal count the cost of missing out on Champions League qualification.
And that will leave him relying on many of the players who came up just short in the fight with Spurs for a fourth place finish last season.
Arteta has told technical director Edu that he needs a squad of 22 outfield players to cope with the extra demands of Europa League football next season.

    Tavares available on loan
Arsenal are reportedly prepared to offload Nuno Tavares on loan after just one season.
The Portuguese left-back was guilty of inconsistent performances when deputising for Kieran Tierney.

Though they state he could be on the move in January to give time to impress in the Europa League group stage.
    Szczesny disappointed by Arsenal
Former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has declared he was left disappointed that the club failed to secure a top four finish.
But the Juventus ace believes it won’t be too long until Mikel Arteta’s side are back in the Champions League.
He said: “As a fan, it was really disappointing. They gave it a good go and nobody would have said before the season started that they had a chance.
“They were still in it with two games of the season left. It’s disappointing but they have actually done a good job this year.
“I can see Mikel’s idea of football, he has a young team so they will be all right. Another couple of years and they will be back in the Champions League.”
Arsenal warned by Barcelona over Depay
Barcelona have reportedly warned Arsenal they are unwilling to sell Memphis Depay this summer unless they find a replacement.
Sport claims the Gunners are eager to snap up Barca’s Dutch forward after returning to the Europa League.
But the Spaniards will not part ways with Depay unless they can find a suitable attacker to fill his shoes.
Depay, 28, has just one year left on his Nou Camp deal despite only joining Barcelona from Lyon last June.
And Mikel Arteta reckons he can land a real bargain for Arsenal’s attack in the upcoming transfer window, allowing the club to focus the majority of their resources elsewhere.
    Lacazette writes emotions goodbye statement
Alexandre Lacazette has declared it was a “dream come true” to sign for Arsenal after it was announced he will be leaving the club.

    Arsenal fail in Scamacca bid
Gianluca Scamacca has snubbed a £35million move to Arsenal in favour of staying in Italy, according to reports.
Arsenal offered a transfer package of £35million plus bonuses to Sassuolo in order to bring the 23-year-old to The Emirates, but this was rejected by the player.
Alfredo Pedulla has reported Scamacca rejected the bid as he is waiting for a move to one of the Italian giants.
He is hoping the likes of Inter, AC Milan, or Napoli will make a concrete offer for him.
However, the report indicates that this could be some way off.
A move to this year’s Serie A runner ups Inter would take time to materialise, while one to the likes of champions Milan or third place Napoli would require more than an enquiry to be made.

Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira is reportedly a target for Lazio after his impressive loan at Fiorentina.
It has been thought that the Florence outfit was set to activate Torreira’s £12.5million buyout clause in his contract, but they are now unwilling to match that fee.

In an interview with Canal do Arnaldo e Tironi, Belmonte said: “We have a spectacular relationship with Edu Gaspar, who told us that he knew that Marquinhos could leave for free.
“But that he was still going to look for funds to pay for Sao Paulo, because he wants to have a relationship with Soo Paulo similar to the one that Ajax has it with us.”
Belmonte added: “He [Edu Gaspar] wants to be closer to eventually be able to bring younger players from Sao Paulo to Arsenal.

Speaking to DAZN, Allegri said: “Paulo needs to go back to being himself. There was a time where he got all carried out by those who labeled him as ‘the new Messi’ ”

Meanwhile Arsenal are convinced they have done enough to persuade Gabriel to stay instead of joining Juventus, and are considering offering the defender a new contract.
    Lukaku snubs Spurs
Romelu Lukaku has rejected a move to Tottenham Hotspur, according to reports from Italy.
Calciomercato claim that Antonio Conte wants to be reunited with the Belgium forward, after he led his line so brilliantly for Inter Milan.
However, Lukaku has said to be in favour of returning to Serie A with the Nerazzurri.
A loan to Inter is said to be a possibility before the next campaign begins.
    Brentford targeting Emmanuel Dennis
Brentford are eyeing up a summer swoop for Emmanuel Dennis.
The Bees will have to tussle with Crystal Palace for Dennis, who bagged ten top-flight goals in the last campaign for Watford.
Dennis is valued at around £20million.
The Nigerian striker arrived at Vicarage Road from Club Brugge in July last year and the Belgian side would be entitled to a small sell-on fee, around the five per cent mark.
But with his price tag likely to be in the region of £20m, it would still mean a significant profit for Watford on the £3m they paid for him.
    Everton confident of Tarkowski deal
Everton are confident of landing James Tarkowski on a free as Frank Lampard overhauls his squad.
The centre-back’s Burnley contract expired after the Clarets’ relegation.
Tarkowski, 29, has also attracted interest from Newcastle and newly-promoted Fulham.
But Goodison chiefs consider him a key signing and reckon they can get a deal done.
    Good morning football fans
Dutch star Ryan Gravenberch has completed his medical with Bayern Munich, ahead of a move from Ajax.
The midfield enforcer will sign for the Germans for a fee believed to be in the region of £20million, but will include up to £5.5million in bonuses, as well as a seven per cent sell on clause.
Fabrizio Romano has said it will take some time for the deal to be officially unveiled, but it is all confirmed.
Barcelona will be renting their esteemed Nou Camp ground this month to raise funds for the stadium’s redevelopment.
The sensational report comes from El Chiringuito, who claim that Barca will be letting their historic pitch from June 6 until June 11.
The cash-strapped Blaugrana will be allowing 60-minute matches and charge €300 (£255) per player.
Oleksandr Zinchenko had to be talked out of heading home to the front line when war broke out in Ukraine earlier this year.
The Manchester City ace led his country to within one win of the World Cup finals with a brilliant performance against Scotland on Wednesday.
But he was heart-broken by the scenes from his homeland after Russia invaded back in February.
And he was anxious over the well-being of his family – with his grandad and aunt refusing to join the thousands fleeing the country.
The 25-year-old was desperate to go and help his people – but was convinced by family and friends to stay in the North West and carry on playing for City.
    Dybala talks up Prem move
Paulo Dybala, who recently quit Juventus and is available for a free transfer, has spoken about moving to the Premier League.
The Argentinian star revealed: “I am quite calm, the people who work with are taking care.
“In Italy I am very comfortable. I would still like to know other leagues like Premier, Liga… but I’m happy in Italy.”
Dybala has been linked with moves to Arsenal, Man Utd, and Spurs in recent weeks.
    Gvardiol wanted by Prem giants
RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol has become a transfer target for both Chelsea and Spurs.
The German side are said to be desperately trying to keep hold of the centre back, with the Premier League giants looking to add the Croatian to their ranks.
The 20-year-old is highly rated, after joining from Dinamo Zagreb for £14million in 2020 – a deal that made him the most costliest Croatian teenager ever.
Last season he managed almost 50 games, helping his side finish in the Champions League places in the Bundesliga.
    Gravenberch set for Bayern
Dutch star Ryan Gravenberch has completed his medical with Bayern Munich, ahead of a move from Ajax.
The midfield enforcer will sign for the Germans for a fee believed to be in the region of £20million, but will include up to £5.5million in bonuses, as well as a seven per cent sell on clause.
Fabrizio Romano has said it will take some time for the deal to be officially unveiled, but it is all confirmed.
    Barca renting their ground
Barcelona will be renting their esteemed Nou Camp ground this month to raise funds for the stadium’s redevelopment.
The sensational report comes from El Chiringuito, who claim that Barca will be letting their historic pitch from June 6 until June 11.
The cash-strapped Blaugrana will be allowing 60-minute matches and charge €300 (£255) per player.
The Catalan giants have been dealing with financial woes ever since last summer, which is why they had to let club legend Lionel Messi go as a free agent and join Paris Saint-Germain.
Barcelona also took an eye-watering £73million loss on Antoine Griezmann on deadline day in an attempt to balance the books.
The Spanish outfit recently confirmed they will move to the nearby Olympic Stadium in Catalonia while the Nou Camp undergoes renovations.
    Gollini leaves Spurs
Italian goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini has left Spurs, the club has confirmed.
The Atalanta shotstopper was on a season-long loan deal – with the option to make that move permanent this summer.
However, Spurs have decided against taking up the option on Gollini.
Instead, they are reportedly close to signing Southampton No2 Fraser Forster.

And Mikel Arteta reckons he can land a real bargain for Arsenal’s attack in the upcoming transfer window, allowing the club to focus the majority of their resources elsewhere.
Depay is thought to be keen on a Premier League return despite his horror career at Manchester United, where he scored just seven times in 53 games.

Luc of love for Fiorentina might not be enough
Lucas Torreira has told Arsenal he wants to stay with Fiorentina even though the Italians failed to trigger their option to buy him, writes MARK IRWIN.
The Uruguayan midfielder completed a successful season on loan in Florence, helping the club to finish seventh in Serie A and qualify for the Europa Conference League.
Coach Vincenzo Italiano is keen to keep Torreira but the £12.5million option to sign him permanently expired on Tuesday.
Now Fiorentina are trying to negotiate Arsenal’s asking price down because they know the 26-year-old does not figure in Mikel Arteta’s plans and only has a year left on his £75,000-a-week Emirates contract.
Torreira told supporters: “My intention is to stay at Fiorentina but the club will need to find an agreement with Arsenal. I am very happy in Italy and in Florence.”
But Torreira’s agent Pablo Bentancur is not optimistic.
He said: “It’s not over yet but the chances of Lucas staying in Florence are very small.

Arsenal are still thought to be holding back on a bid for Leicester lynchpin Youri Tielemans.

But the Gunners have always been rated the main contenders for the 25-year-old.

    Jesus deal ‘back on’
Arsenal could again be nearing a £51million swoop for Gabriel Jesus.
Manchester City’s Brazil striker has shot back into transfer speculation today.
And that’s not just because Prem champs City have signed fellow frontmen Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez.
Rodrigo Oliveira of Radio Gaucha told Calciomercato Arsenal are ‘very close’ to signing the 25-year-old – as they line up a ‘great offer’ for the Sao Paulo-born superstar.
    Gunners in with Arthur chance
Arsenal are again being strongly linked with Juventus midfielder Arthur.
Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport even say an Emirates move is ‘in his desires’.

Hick up to be first Gunners’ signing
Bologna left-back Aaron Hickey could be Arsenal’s first summer recruit after they reportedly bid £21.75million.

Hickey has racked up five goals in 48 games for his Serie A club.

The 24-year-old striker scored the opener on Wednesday as Argentina beat Italy 3-0 in the inaugural Finalissima.
Afterwards he said: “My plan is clear – I really want to stay at Inter next season.
“I’ve not received communications from the club as of today and I want to continue at Inter next season.”
    Martinelli-Melo swap deal touted
Juventus are interested in a swap deal involving their midfielder Arthur Melo for Arsenal striker Gabriel Martinelli, according to Calciomercato.
The Gunners were reported to have tried to sign Melo in January.
The Old Lady want Martinelli to help reinforce their attack as they might see loan duo Alvaro Morata and Moise Kean return to Atletico Madrid and Everton, respectively.
    Palmieri ready for Chelsea return
Italy left-back Emerson Palmieri says he is ready to return to Chelsea after his loan spell at Lyon.
The defender started for his country as they lost 3-0 to Argentina in Finalissima on Wednesday.
On plans to reignite his career at Stamford Bridge, the 27-year-old said: “‘For me personally it’s been a good season, I played a lot of games. Let’s see what happens in the future.
“I have a contract with Chelsea. I’ve played there for three years and won some things. If I need to go back there I’m happy.”
    Lukaku will ‘accept pay cut’
Unsettled Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku is ready to take a huge pay cut to secure a return to Inter Milan, according to Sportsmail.
The Belgium star will reportedly accept a weekly wage drop to about £125,000-a-week, which would cut his yearly take-home from about £6.4million at the Blues to closer to £3m at Inter.
Lukaku rejoined Chelsea last summer for £97.5m from Inter but had an underwhelming campaign and courted controversy by saying he wanted to leave.
    Brentford eye Arsenal target Hickey
Brentford are now reportedly after Arsenal target Aaron Hickey.
The Gunners are thought to be closing in on a deal for the 19-year-old Bologna left-back.
Now Bees boss Thomas Frank has reportedly added the three-cap Scotland star to his summer transfer shortlist.
    Schick ‘good Mane replacement option’
Former Liverpool keeper David James says Bayer Leverkusen’s Patrik Schick would be an ideal replacement for Sadio Mane at Anfield.
Kop striker Mane has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich this summer.
Ex-England No 1 James, 51, told GGRecon: “If Mane’s going then they have to replace him.
“You’ve got Patrik Shick, who finished second to Robert Lewandowski in the Bundesliga goal standings.
“He’s a young player who’s got plenty of experience, so he could be an option for Liverpool.”
    Transfer round-up
Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba are eying Italian reunions.
Chelsea striker Lukaku is tipped for an Inter Milan return, even on loan, just a year after the Blues re-signed him for £97.5million.
And after Manchester United confirmed Pogba will exit on a free transfer, Juve emerged as favourites to recapture him ahead of PSG.
Jesse Lingard is another Red Devil on the move – with several more stars likely to follow.
But United have opened talks on a £50milion deal for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
Barca would be happy to offload the Holland ace to raise transfer funds – but he insists he’s happy at his dream club.
Wolves have lined up Sporting Lisbon duo Matheus Nunes and Joao Palhinha — in case they are forced to sell £60m United target Ruben Neves.
Lastly, Chelsea are in pole position ahead of Arsenal for Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde.
    Wolves ‘want £60m for Neves’
Wolves want Sporting Lisbon duo Matheus Nunes and Joao Palhinha — if £60million Manchester United target Ruben Neves is sold this summer.
Barcelona also want ex-Porto midfielder, Neves, 25.
Wolves have held initial talks over deals for Neves’ Portugal team-mates Palhinha, 26, and Nunes, 23.
Jones and Henderson could join Utd ‘exodus’
Paul Pogba will be Manchester United’s third big-name exit on a free transfer – and there could be at least five more significant departures.
Edinson Cavani and Nemanja Matic have already gone, with Jesse Lingard to follow.
Centre-back Phil Jones looks the most vulnerable of the rest, while second-choice keeper Dean Henderson is tipped for at least a loan move.
Spanish playmaker Juan Mata, 34, could yet win another year’s contract.
But frontrunners Anthony Martial – who finished the season on loan to Sevilla and Marcus Rashford – floundered when trying to impress interim chief Ralf Rangnick.
    Memphis delay

Depay is thought to be keen on a Premier League return despite his horror career at Manchester United, where he scored just seven times in 53 games.
But the Dutch international rebuilt his career at Lyon with 76 goals in 178 outings.
And Depay’s first season at Barcelona, having joined a free transfer in 2021, yielded 13 goals in 38 appearances.
Reece battles Saka and Emile for PFA gong
THE PFA Young Player of the Year shortlist has been announced with a number of top Premier League stars nominated.
Chelsea‘s Reece James will be rivalled by fellow England international and Premier League winner Phil Foden.
Arsenal duo Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe have also been nominated.
On-loan Chelsea star Conor Gallagher has been recognised, as has Aston Villa‘s Jacob Ramsey.
Foden is the frontrunner, having picked up his fourth Prem crown.
The 22-year-old made 28 Prem appearances this term, scoring nine and assisting five. Across all competitions, Foden reached double figures in both goals and assists.
Should Foden win the award again, he will join Dele Alli in being one of only five players to have won the award in consecutive seasons. Ryan Giggs did it at United in 1993, Robbie Fowler in 1996 and Wayne Rooney a decade later.
    Deal Beale in at QPR
QPR have appointed Michael Beale as their new head coach on a three-year deal.
Beale, 41, quit as Steven Gerrard’s assistant at Aston Villa to take up his first managerial role at the Championship club.
He said: “I have been looking for the right opportunity and I think I have that — the right club, the right people, the right ambition.
“I’m a London boy and know everything this club stands for. This is a wonderful opportunity.”
Beale succeeds Mark Warburton, who left at the end of the season, in the Hoops hotseat.
He added: “I’ve been left a solid platform by Mark Warburton, which enables me to kick on.”
Big Hag-gle to make Frenkie welcome
New Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is determined to make Barcelona hero Frenkie De Jong welcome.
But the Dutch midfielder may need more persuading to leave than Barca do to let him go.
The financially-crippled Spanish club need to cut costs and manager Xavi is understood to be prepared to let him leave.
Yet De Jong, 25, said this week he still believes he is at his “dream” club and wants to stay.
Ten Hag hopes he can convince him to change his mind, with Barca wanting the £65.4m they paid Ajax in 2019 — though United believe they can cut that fee significantly.
Utd open talks with Barca on £50m De Jong deal
Manchester United have opened talks with Barcelona in a £50million bid for Frenkie de Jong — as they issued a gushing farewell to £200m flop Paul Pogba, writes KEN LAWRENCE.
Pogba departs Old Trafford as one of the costliest under-achievers in the club’s history.
Once wages and bonuses are added to his £89m club-record fee, United will have forked out more than £200m on Pogba at a cost of over £800,000 a game.
The 29-year-old is now expected to return to Juventus on a free transfer, though Paris Saint-Germain have shown an interest.
He joined Jesse Lingard in being confirmed as departing Old Trafford.
    PFA shortlist revealed
Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo has received a shock nomination for the PFA Player of the Year award.
But there is no room for Tottenham ace Son Heung-Min, despite the South Korean finishing as joint-top scorer this season.
Elsewhere, Spurs striker Harry Kane and Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne are also in the mix.
But it’s Liverpool who lead the way with three nominations in Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
Ronaldo endured a mixed first campaign upon his return to Man United despite scoring 18 Premier League goals.
The Portuguese legend was criticised for failing to adapt to the team’s tactics.

    Rashford backed to stay
Marcus Rashford is tipped to stay at Manchester United.
The £63million-rated England striker, 24, only started six Premier League matches in 2022.
He’s denied being frustrated at his childhood club.
But speculation has grown over his limited opportunities and erratic performances.
Now, though, journalist Jacque Talbot predicts Rashford will stay to start afresh under new manage Erik ten Hag.

    Ruben choose day
Lazio could duel Manchester United for Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
    Forest get the Gold shoulder
Premier League new-boys Nottingham Forest have been snubbed by Rangers centre-back Connor Goldson.
The former Brighton defender was out of contract but has opted to sign a new deal with the Scottish giants.
Wolves-born Goldson, 29, said: “I’ve got used to winning games most weeks and I love that feeling. I want to keep on winning.”
    Chelsea lead Kounde hunt
Chelsea head Arsenal and other European giants in the hunt for Jules Kounde, Spanish outlet Sport claim.
Barcelona could take centre-backs Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen from the Blues – and perhaps even wide defenders Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta.
So backline reinforcements will be central to Chelsea chief Thomas Tuchel’s summer plans.
And Sport suggest the Blues are ‘working’ on a deal for Sevilla’s France star Kounde, 23.

    Fight for Aarons and Hickey
Brentford have put ‘Manchester United target’ Max Aarons and Arsenal-linked Aaron Hickey on their transfer shortlist.
Bees boss Thomas Frank has made the full-backs his top priority.
Aarons, 22, is tipped to leave relegated Norwich to stay in the Premier League.
And Bologna’s Scotland left-back star Hickey, 19, is also wanted by the Gunners – for around £21.25million.

Lionel Messi has described Chelsea midfielder Jorginho as a “complicated” player to face.
Argentina legend Messi squared off against Italy’s Jorginho as the South Americans enjoyed a 3-0 win in Finalissima on Wednesday.
Jorginho was out-of-sorts with a number of stray passes, but Paris Saint-Germain star Messi admitted he is always a difficult rival.
In his post-match interview, he told reporters: “The first half was a bit complicated for us because we couldn’t find a way around Jorginho, who played a bit free and that made it difficult for us to get the ball.”

The Blues are rated favourites for Jules Kounde – but face losing up to four defenders to Barcelona.

But Chelsea’s need is greater – along with their bargaining position after Todd Boehly’s £4.25billion takeover.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid are in pole position for Antonio Rudiger.
Barca and Juventus, though, are also keen on the out-of-contract central defender.
Barcelona are still being linked even more strongly to Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso.

Lukaku, however, has found himself on the outskirts of Thomas Tuchel’s starting XI due to his poor form.
And according to Gazzetta dello Sport, the striker is on the brink of sealing a return to the San Siro.
They claim the Serie A giants have reached an agreement to pay Lukaku’s £6.39million wages in a loan deal.
Lukaku, 28, is said to have 15 days to convince Chelsea’s lawyers to accept the proposal.

But midfielder Gallagher, a loan sensation with Crystal Palace, has yet to play a senior game for Chelsea.
