Meanwhile, Jude Bellingham is said to be top of the Red Devils’ wish list, but a deal with Dortmund is more likely to happen next summer.

De Jong urged to join Red Devils
Former Dutch international Rafael van der Vaart has urged Frenkie de Jong to sign for Manchester United.
The ex-Tottenham man has suggested a switch to Old Trafford would mean De Jong play in a similar role to how he does with the national team.
De Jong himself admitted recently that he prefers his position at international level to the role he plays at Barca.
And Van der Vaart told ZiggoSport: “If I were Frenkie I would go to Manchester United.
“It would be ideal. You have a manager who knows exactly what you can and cannot do. United still need a bit of quality.
“There are players at Barca who do the same, and maybe be better than him, or have performed more.
“As long as those players are also at Barca, he is out of place there. At United he could play more like with the Dutch team.”

And Saha told PA: “I think he’s [Rashford] a terrific player, I love him.
“I don’t really understand why this happened because this guy has got it all. He’s got all the quality, he’s got speed, he’s got arrogance, dribbling and can score goals.
“He needs to come back to basics and, it is strange what I’m going to say, but maybe not copy Cristiano Ronaldo, copy some of the other team-mates who are young.
“You need get back to the young Rashford, having that simplicity in his game and running players, not thinking about whatever the status that he had or he has been given by the press or his entourage. He has suffered a lot from that.”
    Pogba could make Juventus U-turn
Paul Pogba had been expected to join Juventus this summer after leaving Manchester United.
The Frenchman officially becomes a free agent at the end of the month and had been tipped to return to Juventus.
Now though the 29-year-old could change his mind an opt for a move to Paris Saint-Germain instead.
According to French outlet RMC, Pogba is waiting to see whether Zinedine Zidane is appointed as boss in Paris.
Zidane has been strongly linked with the managerial role at the Parc des Princes, and joining PSG could trigger a change of heart from Pogba.
It’s claimed Zidane “loves” fellow Frenchman Pogba, and could sanction a move were he to take up the reigns with the Ligue 1 giants.

Pallister: Liverpool bigger draw than United
Former Manchester United man Gary Pallister has admitted Liverpool are a more attractive destination than the Red Devils.
Both clubs are keen on Benfica star Darwin Nunez, but the striker is set to snub United in favour of joining the Reds.
Speaking to Lord Ping, Pallister said: “Man United are one of the two top biggest clubs in the world, if you get a chance to sign for Manchester United, you’d snap their hands off, usually.
“Obviously players are going to look at United and the troubles they’ve had, a new manager going in, where they finished last year, not playing Champions League football, they have got European football which can be a bonus but it’s not the top tier of European football.
“I think if you’re in a hurry, you’re going to sign for Liverpool at the minute.”

    Kante available for reduced fee
Manchester United are hoping to land Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante at a knocked-down price this summer.
The Red Devils have been tracking the status of the French international, and plan to take advantage of the fact that only one year remains on his current deal at Stamford Bridge.
Thomas Tuchel hopes to keep hold of his midfielder, but there are concerns within the club over his injury record.
The Blues boss had previously said: “I think he is our key, key, key player; but key, key, key players need to be on the pitch.
“He plays only 40% of the games. So it’s maybe a miracle that we arrived in third place.”

The Barcelona boss’ preferred choice in that case would be Manchester City star Bernardo Silva.

Jurgen Klopp is keen to get the £86million deal done as he searches for a replacement for Bayern Munich bound Sadio Mane.

He told Sky Sports on Thursday that Red Devils chiefs are set to meet with Nunez’s agent Jorge Mendes.

    In the Hag
Erik ten Hag will improve the fortunes of struggling Manchester United pair Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford.
That is the view of Netherlands and Juventus centre-back Matthijs de Ligt, who played under his fellow Dutchman at Ajax.
The defender, 22, said: “Erik is someone who loves his job and he loves to work.
“He definitely does improve players. He’s really into the details. This makes him a really good trainer.
“He wants to do everything to make his team play better.”
Can Ten Hag succeed at United? De Ligt, who reached the Champions League semis with the Dutch coach in 2019, replied: “Of course. He has a lot of qualities. We will have to see how he goes.”

Getafe’s president had claimed Bale had offered himself to the club, who finished 15th in LaLiga last season.
But Bale was quizzed today on whether he was close to sealing a move to a new team.
And the Wales talisman replied with a laugh: “No but it’s definitely not Getafe that’s for sure!”

    De Jong greenlights United switch
Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has reportedly given the green light for a move to Manchester United.
According to The Athletic, the 25-year-old has agreed to join Erik ten Hag’s Old Trafford revolution.
All that’s thought to be left now is for the two clubs to agree on a transfer fee.
Barca are understood to want to recoup as much of the £65million they paid to sign De Jong from Ajax in 2019.
United are said to be currently proposing an offer of £50million for his services.
    Woodman close to Newcastle departure
Goalkeeper Freddie Woodman is inching closer to a move away from Newcastle, according to the Northern Echo.
The 25-year-old is set to join Preston North-End on an initial loan move, with the view to a permanent transfer.
Woodman is currently third-choice at St. James’ Park, and with Toon on the lookout for a new stopper, first team football will be hard to come by.
It’s claimed his move to Preston will be a season-long loan deal, and the Lilywhites will have the option to sign him permanently next summer.
    Leeds eyeing Bayern swoop
Leeds United are in talks over the signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Marc Roca for £10million, according to reports.
The 25-year-old is expected to leave the Bundesliga champions this season, via the Daily Mail and The Athletic.
Director of football Victor Orta is confident Roca would suit the style of the Premier League.
West Ham are believed to have an interest in the Spaniard too but the Hammers are supposedly looking at other targets.
Roca was part of the squad that won the Under-21 European Championships in 2019 with Spain.
Azpilicueta set for talks on future
Cesar Azpilicueta is set to hold talks with Chelsea next week over his future, writes ANDREW DILLON.
The club captain wants to leave but does not want to submit a transfer request out of respect to the club he has served for ten years.
Barcelona are keen to sign the veteran right back but are reluctant to pay a transfer fee even though the player has 12 months left on his contract.
Boss Thomas Tuchel has hinted that Chelsea’s longest serving player could be allowed to leave for nothing as a reward for his loyalty and key part in bringing huge success to the club.

With only three games to play, Les Bleus will no doubt need to win all of their games to stand any chance of progressing.
Denmark are in the driving seat to eliminate the defending champions.
Benzema unable to find Madrid form
You could never question the talents of a player such as Karim Benzema.
The Madrid striker has had a season that has led many to talking about him as a sure thing for the Balon D’or.
Despite the fantastic season he enjoyed, he was unable to have that same effect on this French team today.
The World Cup in Qatar probably offers itself as the talisman’s last chance to have a crack at the trophy.

Rangnick finds his form with Austria
Since beginning his stint as head coach of Austria, Das Team have blossomed.
Their only defeat being a harsh one against Denmark, despite having an abundance of chances.
The UEFA Nations League is a competition they can focus on having not qualified for the World Cup in Qatar.
Blessed with talent, reliant on Mbappe
France have household names in all areas of the pitch.
This game was a mismatch in terms of the squads available to their managers.
Aside from all the options Deschamps seems to have, they always seem to rely on the explosive Kylian Mbappe to get them out of trouble.
Les Bleus needing to up the ante
For all the talent this French squad is blessed with, it seems more and more that teams are finding ways to get results against them.
When it comes to the World Cup in Qatar, these kind of tactics could result in Didier Deschamps side being on an early flight to Paris.
The coach must be under pressure to put a good showing to defend their crown.
    FT: Austria 1-1 France
The referee brings the game to an end.
A great performance by Ralf Rangnick’s side although the ex-Man Utd manager will feel they could have won it.
Didier Deschamps’ side have yet to win a game in this campaign.
    Austria 1-1 France
90+3. The ball is drifted over the top and Benzema tries to take it down and get a shot away.
The keeper comes out to collect the ball.
Mbappe was in great space had Benzema seen him.

90+1. We are in the first minute of four additional minutes.
A corner comes in and Guendouzi gets a flick at the near post.
Somehow Pentz manages to claw the ball out of the goal.
The Austrian keeper has to be their man of the match today if they manage to hold onto a draw.
    Austria 1-1 France
    89. Rare break forward for the hosts.
They don’t really manage to create anything of any note.
France counter attack with their pace and Danso brings Nkunku down on the edge of the box in a wide position.

    Austria 1-1 France
    87. This will no doubt be defence versus attack for the remainder of the game.
Mbappe gets the ball and weaves his way passed the Austrian defence.
He finds himself with a sight of goal and his shot is deflected by the goalkeeper onto the crossbar.
Great save by the Austrian keeper.
    Austria 1-1 France
    85. That goal will hurt Austria.
They conceded a late goal in their last game at home which cost them with a defeat
It is important now that they focus on finishing this game with a point at the very least.
    Austria 1-1 France
    83. Great assist by Nkunku as he fed Mbappe.
The weight of the pass was brilliant, the French striker taking it into his path and going through on goal.
He smashes the ball into the roof of the net, no chance for the keeper.
    Goal – Kylian Mbappe (France)
    Austria 1-0 France
    80. Into the final stages of the game now.
France have had some dramatic games in this Nations League campaign.
Game management is key now for Ralf Rangnick’s side.
    Austria 1-0 France
    78. Coman comes off for Nkunku.
Gregoritsch does well on the halfway line holding the ball up and manages to draw a foul from Benzema.

    Austria 1-0 France
    76. Lloris comes charging out to cut out a ball over the top.
France turn defence into attack again and put Austria on the back foot.
Although the ball is coming straight back at Austria, they will just be happy to clear their lines with their one goal advantage.
    Austria 1-0 France
    74. France really have dominated this game since the break.
It will worry the French fans that they have been unable to break Austria down despite their dominance.
Counter attacks are now being played at a slow pace by Austria as they look to spend some time in French territory to run the clock down.
    Austria 1-0 France
    72. France have been knocking on the door here all half.
Deschamps will not be happy that they have not managed to find a way through this Austrian defensive line.
Time is starting to run out for the champions.
    Austria 1-0 France
    70. Austria have a rare counter-attack.
They cannot breach the French defence.
France immediately break with pace as Mbappe tears forward.
    Austria 1-0 France
    68. Bad news for the home side.
Alaba drops to the ground signalling to the bench that he needs to come off.
Rangnick needs to replace his centre half here.
Danso comes on to replace him.
    Credit: AFP
    Austria 1-0 France
    66. Benzema and Mbappe scored 84 goals between them in the domestic season that has just passed.
All Les Bleus need to do is to find a single goal to equalise.
Austria are not known for their ability to keep clean sheets at home.
    Austria 1-0 France
    64. France are turning the screw at the moment.
Probing their opponents looking to find a breakthrough.
France win their third consecutive corner.
    Austria 1-0 France
    62. Griezmann is brought off for Mbappe.
    Tchouameni comes off for Guendouzi.
Looks like Austria are going to make some changes too.
    Austria 1-0 France
    60. It looks as though Kylian Mbappe’s warm up routine is finished.
Possibly the worst thing the Austrian defence could see.
Meanwhile Arnautovic has a half chance on the counter attack but cannot take advantage.
    Austria 1-0 France
    58. France seem to be playing a more direct style in this half.
But while the hosts keep them out, they hold the advantage.
Rangnick’s side have not really offered much going forward so far in this half.

F1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix LIVE RESULTS: Leclerc edges out Perez with Verstappen third in practice two, Hamilton 12th

F1 is in Azerbaijan for what is typically one of the most action-packed Grand Prix races of the year.Max Verstappen will be looking to extend his title lead after crashing at 200mph in last year’s race with just four laps left.
But he will have Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc hot on his heels as well as team-mate Sergio Perez, who won in Baku last year and also took the chequered flag in Monaco a fortnight ago.
Here’s how you can watch the practice, qualifying and race live from Azerbaijan.

    Seven down so far
This weekend’s race in Baku will be the eighth race of the 2022 calendar.
Max Verstappen has won four out of the seven races so far, with Charles Leclerc taking the chequered flag twice and Sergio Perez topping the podium last time out in Monaco.
Lewis Hamilton’s P3 in the opening race of the season is his best result of the campaign, and feels like a very long time ago.
🏁 F1 2022 calendar: practice times, dates and racetrack info

    Baku bouncing causes nightmares
Many of the drivers were forced to put up with severe bouncing during practice today.
Poor Esteban Ocon even thought he was going to lose his helmet due to the bumpy ride.
The Alpine driver said: “It’s important to get confident, learn these big braking zones to try and get these bumps under control as well
“The head is all over the place, I felt I was going to lose my helmet at the end of the straight line.
“It’s quite tricky for everybody, it’s important to get a feel for that. That’s what we’ve done today.
“It’s not physical for the right reason, unfortunately. It’s very strange, it’s like oscillation, you can’t train or get ready for [it].
“It’s just painful on the body, really. I can feel it on the neck, it’s getting me smaller – hopefully I will lose a couple of centimetres!”
    Russell speaks after “tricky day”
George Russell has admitted both Ferrari and Red Bull have an “inherently faster car” than Mercedes.
The Brit finished FP2 in seventh, while teammate Lewis Hamilton was way down in 12th.
Speaking at the end of the day, Russell said: “It was a tricky day, we weren’t as competitive as we would have liked. Again, a tricky track to get the tyres in the right window.
“You see with a number of drivers, their fastest laps were coming right at the end of the run, whereas Ferrari and Red Bull, they seemed to be able to turn it on.
“At the moment, they just have an inherently faster car than us and we’ve done everything we can to try and catch up.
“If we’re totally on top of the tyres we’re not going to fully close that gap – or we’re definitely not going to close that gap, they’re just too far ahead.
“So that’s probably 50% of our issues – the rest is just the lack of performance we have at the moment.”
Exclusive – Horner on Verstappen-Perez partnership
Christian Horner is confident Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez won’t turn into a pair of raging Red Bulls as they battle for the F1 title.
Horner even pointed out there is a bromance between his current pairing.
He said: “You can see there’s a great respect and there’s a friendship between the two and they work very well together as a pairing.
“They work as a team. You saw that in Barcelona and you saw that with Checo in Abu Dhabi last year, he was outstanding, so I think the dynamic in a team is as good as it has ever been.
“Back then you had two drivers who clearly didn’t like each other and now there is a genuine respect that exists between the two.
“We’ve got two drivers. They’re both getting the same opportunity but it’s still very early in the year.
“We’ve only had a sample of what seven races so far and still have a lot of racing to do with a couple of sprint races in there too.
“And we are up against a very competitive Ferrari team, so our number one priority is making sure both our cars are ahead of the Ferraris and we will then see where we are later in the year if it’s still very close between the drivers.”
    Leclerc still has “question marks”
Despite topping the standings in FP2 today, Charles Leclerc believes there are still questions to be answered before Sunday’s race.
He told formula1.com: “We’ve had a hard Friday because overall I think we’ve improved quite a lot from FP1 to FP2 but there’s still another step that we have to do from today to tomorrow.
“I also feel Iike in FP2 nobody really put a lap in and neither did we – actually I think Max and Carlos didn’t actually improve on the softs, so there’s still quite a lot of question marks.
“I think the positive to take away from today is that the tyre degradation was good and the race pace was very strong, so that is good.”
    More from Lewis Hamilton
Hamilton was also asked if he had changed anything on his car between FP1 and FP2.
And the Brit said Merc had tried experimenting with his car, but the plan backfired.
He added: “We tried something experimental on my car and it didn’t feel that great to be honest.
“But at least we tried it and got data on it and now we’ll go through it.
“And hopefully for tomorrow we’ll probably revert back to what we changed.”
    Lewis Hamilton “sore” after P2
Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton has spoken to Sky Sports after being 12th fastest around the track in FP2.
And he said he was feeling “sore” after spending the session plagued by porpoising issues.
When asked what the hardest thing about the day was, the seven-time world champ laughed and said: “The bouncing.”
Then when quizzed if he was alright, Hamilton said: “I’ll get by. I’m a bit sore but yeah. We’re hitting some serious speeds at the end here and it’s bouncing a lot.”
    Sergio speaks after FP2
Sergio Perez, winner of the last race in Monaco, has spoken after FP2 in Baku.
The Mexican was second fastest on the track behind Charles Leclerc.
And he said: “I think there is good data for us to gather and to go through tonight.
“And hopefully we are able to put it all together tomorrow for qualifying.”
He added: “I feel confident out there. As always with braking you are going to make some mistakes here and there.
“But that’s the way it is at the moment but we just have to keep our heads down and hopefully we are able to sort it out.”
    Hamilton outside top 10
Behind the wheel of that car will be a very unhappy Lewis Hamilton.
The weekend is still in its early stages, but only being 12th fastest in FP2 does not bode well for the Mercedes star.

FP2 is done – Leclerc leads the way
Ferrari’s Leclerc sets the pace ahead of the Red Bull duo. Perez is 0.248 seconds off the pace and Verstappen 0.356 seconds.
Alonso is the shock in fourth place for Alpine, ahead of countryman Sainz, who is in P5.
Russell, 7th, gets the better of his Mercedes teammate Hamilton, who is down in 12th in another miserable outing for the seven-times world champion.
    Bump in the road
It is proving challenging for the drives, especially the long straight, which is 2.2km long.
It is not just the Mercedes that is bouncing, it is evident all cars are experiencing problems.
There come be some unhappy comments form the drivers about the surface this evening.
    Leclerc has a lock up
The Ferrari man has a lock up and goes into the escape road at turn seven.
He keeps out of the barriers and is now on his way back to the pits.
And now Perez has done the same at turn 15. No contact with the barriers but boy, some are getting close.
    Perez and Verstappen swap places
The Mexican, who won last out in Monaco, is still on the pace as he leapfrogs Verstappen into second place behind Leclerc.
Alonso is now up to fourth and Sainz in fifth.
Meanwhile, Schumacher makes another error but keeps out of the wall.
    Mercedes duo on flying runs
Russell, who has until now been slower than his teammate, now gets on top.
He moves into sixth with a time that is 0.742seconds off Leclerc in P1, while Hamilton is slower on his lap after making a mistake in sector one.
Hamilton is now in ninth place behind Tsunoda and Norris.
    Leclerc sets the pace
The Ferrari man tops the tree and sits ahead of Verstappen, but there is just 0.030 seconds in it.
It IS close. Perez in P3 and Sainz in P4 while Alonso in 5th gives Alpine some confidence.

    Frantic scenes in Red Bull
There is a lot of work being done to the rear wing of Verstappen’s car. It was certainly flexing a lot in F1, especially on the long straight.
The world champion is yet to run in FP2 as his team make their final adjustments.
    FP2 is go
It was impressive from Red Bull and Ferrari in the first session, can Mercedes get in the mix for the second session?

    FP2 about to begin
It’s almost time for another 20 drivers to get a feel for this bewildering Baku circuit.
    Hill: The Sergio surge continues
Former world champion Damon Hill believes Sergio Perez is finally living up to the reputation from early on in his career.
The Mexican continued his fine form with the fastest time in the first practice at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Speaking to Sky Sports News after FP1, Hill said: “It’s what I call the Sergio surge.
“He’s coming on strong, and he feels comfortable and confident.
“He’s been resigned, and he’s now putting in the kind of performances that Red Bull always hoped he would.”

    FP1 is done
Perez leads the way. Fresh from his win in Monaco and a new contract in the bag, he leads the way in Baku and sits at the top of the timesheets.
Leclerc is in P2, Verstappen in P3 while Sainz is in P4 to make it two Red Bulls and two Ferraris in the top four.
Alonso fifth, Hamilton six in the best of the rest but both over a second off Perez’s best time.
More misery for under-fire trio Schuamcher, Latifi and Ricciardo who slump to the bottom of the timesheet.
    Curious timing
Midway into FP1 and the FIA have released a statement stating the appointment of Tanya Kutsenko as “the first Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Advisor dedicated to motor sport.
“She is Ukrainian born, is an accomplished international motor sport development expert.”
It comes after a backlash over comments made by FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem.
Straight fight between Ferrari and Red Bull
It is difficult to see past these two teams right now, however, there is some hope – well maybe.
Hamilton has now popped up in fifth in the timesheets, but still a bit off the pace.
And a quick word on under-fire Daniel Ricciardo, he is the slowest man on track. He is in real danger of losing his seat at McLaren unless he improves.
Still no sign of a Mercedes comeback
Sorry Hamilton/Russell fans, but your drivers are currently in P9 and P12, as there seems to have been little improvement in the one-week break from Monaco.
Yes, of course this is only practice, but the early signs are that they are again off the pace of Red Bull and Ferrari and behind AlphaTauri and Alpine.
    Virtual safety car ended
We are back up to full speed again in Baku after the Williams was removed from the track.
Verstappen currently leads the way with a time of 1:46.932. but it is already close with the Ferraris.
He is just 0.067 seconds ahead of Leclerc, who is second. Perez in third, Alonso fourth, Sainz fifth.
    Latifi stops on track
Now it is the Williams man who has a problem. He radios his team to tell them his car just switched off.
He is being rolled out of the way by the marshals as the virtual safety car is deployed.
Neither the start Latifi or Schumacher needed to this weekend, as both are under pressure to improve.

MANCHESTER UNITED have received a boost in their pursuit of Frenkie de Jong.It is claimed that the Dutchman has given the club “private assurances” he is keen to join.
The main stumbling block to a move is said to be Barcelona demanding a £68m fee.
And De Jong may not be the only midfielder incoming, with United reportedly ready to pursue their “long held” interest in Christian Eriksen now he is available on a free transfer.
Meanwhile, Jude Bellingham is said to be top of the Red Devils’ wish list, but a deal with Dortmund is more likely to happen next summer.
Stay up to date with all the latest from Old Trafford…
    United academy coach departs
Manchester United’s head of academy goalkeeping has left the club, according to The Athletic.
Alan Fettis has quit Old Trafford to become a first-team goalkeeper coach at Middlesbrough.
Fettis has spent the last 11 years with United after initially being brought in by former goalkeeping coach Eric Steele and Sir Alex Ferguson.
    Garnacho contract talks progressing
Manchester United are reportedly hopeful of tying wonderkid Alejandro Garnacho down to a new deal.
The Red Devils are confident the 17-year-old will agree to fresh terms, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Negotiations between the two parties are understood to be progressing well.
Serie A giants Juventus are thought to be keen on the young winger.
MEN claim the Red Devils are willing to reward Garnacho with a bigger deal after he helped fire the club to FA Youth Cup glory.

    De Gea praises Ronaldo
Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has lauded Cristiano Ronaldo as one of the best players “in history”.
The Spaniard praised CR7’s dedication to training while talking to the club’s website.
De Gea said: “He’s great. The way he works speaks for himself. The way he treats himself, his body. He is focused in every training session and every game.
“This is why he is one of the best in history. He’s mentally very strong and that’s an example for everyone [to follow].”
    Man Utd release 11 players
The Red Devils have this afternoon confirmed their retained list for next season.
As many people already knew, Edinson Cavani, Lee Grant, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba are leaving.
Meanwhile in the Academy Paul McShane has retired after spending a year with the U23s, at 36-years-old.
Elsewhere D’Mani Mellor, Reece Devine and Connor Stanley will all depart, and goalkeeper Paul Woolston has been forced to retire through injury.
    Mata bids farewell to United
Juan Mata has said an emotional goodbye to Manchester United with a heartfelt post posted on social media.
During a four-minute video, the Spanish star thanked the entirety of the club from the fans, the staff and his teammates.
He said: “All good things come to an end, and my time as a Manchester United player has just finished.
“I am the proudest man in the world for having represented this unique club for the last eight and a half seasons.
“It is something I would never have dreamt of when I was little as it felt too distant for a kid in Spain to one day play for one of the best clubs in the history of football.
    “But sometimes reality exceeds dreams.”

    De Jong nearly done deal
Manchester United are on the verge of confirming the signing of Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong.
TalkSPORT sources understand that a deal for the 25-year-old midfielder will be completed swiftly, and he could be unveiled as a Red Devil over the weekend.
New United boss Erik ten Hag has been keen to bring in the Dutch international, who he first worked with at Ajax.
De Jong left Amsterdam for the Nou Camp in 2019 for €75m, and he has gone on to score 13 times in 139 appearances for the Catalans.

    Phelan to leave coaching staff
Mike Phelan’s 21-year association with Manchester United may be about to end.
The Athletic have confirmed that the former player, coach and assistant manager will not stay on his current role following the arrival of Erik ten Hag.
However, Old Trafford officials are sensitive to the 59-year-old’s service, and are currently exploring the possibility of other non-coaching jobs at the club.
    United favourites to land Asensio
Manchester United are among the favourites to land Real Madrid star Marco Asensio, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The Spanish international is eyeing a move away from the Bernabeu in order to guarantee regular first team football ahead of November’s World Cup.
Juventus are also keen on the 26-year-old attacking midfielder, who is said to have had a number of offers from abroad.
Asensio scored ten goals in 31 LaLiga appearances for Real last term.

Ten Hag wants to keep coach
New Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag wants to keep Eric Ramsay at Old Trafford – despite the highly-rated coach being linked with the vacant Barnsley manager’s job,
The 30-year-old is on the shortlist for the Oakwell hot-seat after earning rave reviews during his first season with the Red Devils.
However, the Manchester Evening News report that Ten Hag is keen to keep Ramsay, who has been working on set-pieces and technical skills since his appointment.
Ten Hag has been busy reshaping his backroom team, but Ramsay is understood to be one of the current members of staff that he hopes to work with following his appointment at the Premier League club.
    United to meet with Mendes
Darwin Nunez’s big-money move to Liverpool appeared a done deal…
…but Manchester United are preparing a last-minute bid to hijack the move.
As first reported by The Express yesterday, Old Trafford officials will meet with Nunez’s agent Jorge Mendes to discuss the possibility of a late switch to the Red Devils.
Benfica hot-shot Nunez had looked set for an £86m move to Liverpool after bagging 34 goals for the Portuguese giants last season.
Mendes is also agent to Wolves’ Ruben Neves, who has also been linked with a summer transfer to United,

    Morning Man Utd fans
Man Utd are reportedly in talks over a £51million transfer for Ajax winger Antony.
The 22-year-old Brazilian enjoyed a productive year under Erik ten Hag at Ajax last season, bagging 12 goals and 10 assists in 33 appearances in all competitions.
According to GOAL, Antony’s agents have flown to Europe for talks with United over a £51mi transfer.
The report indicates a deal could be struck in the coming days between the two parties.
Meanwhile, Frenkie de Jong’s agent is set to hold talks with Barcelona over his client’s future amid United’s reported interest.
Mundo Deportivo states that De Jong’s representative Ali Dursun is scheduled to fly to the Catalan capital within the next few days.
The Spanish outlet adds that manager Xavi would only agree to the midfielder’s departure if the club signed a worthy replacement.
The Barcelona boss’ preferred choice in that case would be Manchester City star Bernardo Silva.
In other news, Liverpool have agreed personal terms with Benfica star Darwin Nunez… but Manchester United want to hijack their deal.
Jurgen Klopp is keen to get the £86million deal done as he searches for a replacement for Bayern Munich bound Sadio Mane.
But according to Portuguese reporter Pedro Sepulveda, United aren’t ready to give up on signing the Uruguayan.
He told Sky Sports on Thursday that Red Devils chiefs are set to meet with Nunez’s agent Jorge Mendes.
And finally, United are keen on Leicester’s Wesley Fofana, according to RMC Sport.
The 21-year-old centre-back missed much of the season that just finished due to injury.
It is rumoured that the Foxes will demand a fee of £68m with Chelsea also keeping their eyes on the Frenchman.
    Ten for effort
EXCLUSIVE – Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag has warned his struggling stars there is no room for egomaniacs, writes Richard Moriarty.
The Dutchman plans to instil a Sir Alex Ferguson-style discipline at the club after a disastrous season tarnished by dressing room splits and training ground bust-ups.
And he has already made his crackdown clear by EMAIL.
A source said: “The new gaffer sent the first-team players an email, telling them that football is a team game and no individual is more important than any other.
“His emphasis is all on the team — despite United possessing world class stars.
“He wants the players to train at a higher intensity so that each session is like a game.
The players have been told that their fitness levels will be the best they have ever been and that if they stick with him and back him, they will be fine.
“If not, they will be out the door. They will be drilled and drilled until they get it right. And if they can’t he’ll replace them with some of the promising youngsters.”

Blind opens up on Ten Hag
Former Man Utd ace Daley Blind has told fans what to expect of Erik ten Hag having worked under him at Ajax.
Asked what sort of manager the Dutchman is, Blind told United’s website: “I think he is a brilliant one.
“A manager who loves to play attacking football, what Manchester stands for.
“I think he’s a manager who knows what he wants.
“He knows exactly how he wants to bring it over to the team and express that and keep everyone on board, everyone in the same direction to get that winning mentality and winning trophies.”
    Firmino drops Nunez hint
Man Utd transfer target Darwin Nunez has hinted that he could be on his way to Liverpool… by liking Roberto Firmino’s Instagram post.
The Reds are reported to have agreed personal terms with Benfica hotshot Nunez ahead of a summer transfer.
Liverpool are understood to have offered around £86million for the forward but Manchester United are currently trying to hijack the deal.
Jurgen Klopp is said to have held private discussions with Nunez’s representatives who have made it clear he prefers a move to Merseyside.
And Nunez himself may have given the game away too after liking Firmino’s Instagram upload from Thursday evening.
The Uruguayan ace liked the snaps Firmino, 30, posted of himself helping deliver a sermon while away on his summer holiday.

    Salah and Foden big winners
Mohamed Salah has won his second PFA Premier League Player of the Year award after his sensational 2021-22 season, with Phil Foden retaining his Young Player gong.
The Liverpool star, 29, joins a prestigious list of legends including Cristiano Ronaldo and Thierry Henry to win the annual award more than once.
Salah tied Son Heung-min for the Golden Boot with 23 goals last season.
His heroics led the Reds to within minutes of their second Premier League crown, but for Manchester City’s heroics late in the season finale.
The Egyptian star joins Ronaldo, Henry, Mark Hughes, Alan Shearer, Gareth Bale and Kevin de Bruyne as the only stars to win the award more than once.
Meanwhile, Foden becomes the fifth person to win the Young Player of the Year gong two years in a row.
The Man City and England ace, 22, follows Ryan Giggs, Robbie Fowler, Wayne Rooney and Dele Alli in winning back-to-back PFA Premier League Young Player of the Year awards.
    Creme de la Prem
The PFA Premier League Team of the Year has been announced – with runners-up Liverpool dominating the star-studded XI.
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds fell agonisingly short in a thrilling final day of the 2021-22 season, ultimately coming up one point – and just a matter of minutes – short.
The Anfield side played superbly all season – and their squad has been rewarded with no fewer than FIVE stars making the campaign’s best XI.
Take a look at the team below.

    Ragnick’s Man United failure explained
Ralf Rangnick failed to make an impact at Man United because he wasn’t given enough time.
That’s the view of Real Madrid ace David Alaba who has been working with Rangnick since he became Austria’s new manager.
Alaba, who labelled Rangnick world class, told The Athletic: “He has been really good, you can see we have a really good plan and you can see it works for us on the pitch.
“He doesn’t want us to let the opponents breathe air. It is good for us. I have known Ralf since I was 18 years old and he is a world-class coach.
“What he did in the past is something special and now I am seeing it close up. He showed what he can do at Leipzig, Salzburg and Hoffenheim.
“He didn’t have a lot of time in Manchester. He has a really good plan and knows a lot about football.”
    He’s the Special Ron
Cristiano Ronaldo is a machine that won’t stop any time soon, according to his Man United team-mate Diogo Dalot.
Dalot told United’s media: “I think the stats can speak for themselves.
“He’s a machine, like I like to call him. Inside of the pitch, outside of the pitch, the way he works, the way he drives himself every single day to perform like this, to give us these goals and these performances.
“I think it’s a plus for this club and for the fans and, hopefully, we can stay with him for many, many years.
“I know he is not going to be here forever but I’m sure that he will play football for a few more years yet.”
    Ant and Ten
Man Utd are in talks over a £51million transfer for Ajax winger Antony, according to reports.
New boss Erik ten Hag wants to bring Antony with him to Old Trafford from Ajax, recognising that The Red Devils current squad lacks a true quality right-winger.
The 22-year-old Brazilian enjoyed a productive year under Ten Hag at Ajax last season, bagging 12 goals and 10 assists in 33 appearances in all competitions.
Antony has also made his Brazil debut during their World Cup qualifying campaign. He has made nine appearances where he has scored and assisted twice each.
According to GOAL, Antony’s agents have flown to Europe for talks with United over a £51mi transfer.
The report indicates a deal could be struck in the coming days between the two parties.

    Danjuma wants England return
Arnaut Danjuma has admitted he still has “unfinished business” in the Premier League.
The Villarreal winger, 25, has been linked with a move to both Manchester United and Liverpool.
Danjuma first and only taste of Premier League action was in the 2019-20 season after he signed for Bournemouth from Belgium outfit Club Brugge.
He later moved on to Villarreal after two seasons on the South Coast, and his excellent form has seen Danjuma tipped to head back to England this summer.
When quizzed on whether he feels as though he has unfinished business in the Prem, Danjuma admitted to Sky Sports: “That I will have to confirm.
“I think there is definitely unfinished business for me in England.
“Because if you look back to the reason why I joined Bournemouth initially was [for] me to play Premier League football.”

Utd and Chelsea battle for Sangare
Chelsea and Manchester United are set to fight it out over PSV Eindhoven star Ibrahim Sangare ahead of the summer transfer window.
That is according to a report from Sky Sports that claims that the Premier League duo are eyeing Sangare, who is believed to have a €35million (£30m) release clause in his contract.
The Blues and United are set for quite a bidding war as the midfielder has also been linked with Liverpool as well as Newcastle.
However, the 24-year-old appears keen to move to the Premier League and is convinced he will be playing in England next season.
The Ivory Coast international was a regular for PSV last season as he registered four goals and four assists in 49 appearances across all competitions.
Sangare helped Eindhoven win the Dutch Cup by beating new United manager Erik ten Hag’s Ajax in the final.

    Man Utd still want Nunez
Manchester United are reportedly in contact with Darwin Nunez’s agent, despite Liverpool ready to bring him to Anfield.
That is according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano who has stated the Benfica striker is at the centre of a battle between the two rivals.
He tweeted: “Darwin Nunez deal. Key hours ahead as reported.
“Waiting for key stages as Liverpool are in advanced talks with Benfica on €80m [£68m] verbal bid and personal terms [five year deal] already discussed.
“But Manchester United are in contact with his agent, even today afternoon.”

And De Andres told Sport Witness: “Again, the player, I am sure, respects Sevilla FC. He is happy with us. In the case of Kounde, it is not a matter of money.
“It’s a matter of him wanting to play in a more competitive team than Sevilla FC.

United are said to be currently proposing an offer of £50million for his services.

Goalkeeper Freddie Woodman is inching closer to a move away from Newcastle, according to the Northern Echo.

Woodman is currently third-choice at St. James’ Park, and with Toon on the lookout for a new stopper, first team football will be hard to come by.

    Merson: Lukaku’s a bargain Belgian
Paul Merson believes Arsenal are the perfect club to rescue Romelu Lukaku from his Chelsea nightmare.
And the former Gunners star reckons his old team could land the Belgian for a cut-price fee.
“Arsenal should make a cheeky £60m bid for Romelu Lukaku this summer,” Merson said in his column for the Daily Mirror.
“Because if Chelsea are so desperate to let him go that they’re talking about loaning him to Inter Milan, surely they would take the money!
“I know he hasn’t scored a lot of goals this season but Lukaku is an elite goalscorer. Arsenal play great football up to the edge of the box but then it often fizzles out.
“Arsenal go through the lines. They want their striker on the edge of the box. It would suit him.”
Lukaku scored just eight goals in 26 Premier League appearances last season following his £97.5m move back to Stamford Bridge.

    Spurs in ‘advanced’ Spence talks
Tottenham are in advanced talks with Middlesbrough regarding a £20m deal for Djed Spence.
Transfers journalist Pete O’Rourke reports that Spurs are closing in on the 21-year-old, who recently won promotion to the Premier League with Nottingham Forest.
Spence enjoyed a brilliant season on loan at the City Ground after being deemed surplus to requirements by then-Boro manager Neil Warnock.
Forest had hoped to keep hold of the defender after returning to the top-flight for the first time since 1999.
However, they now look set to lose out to one of the ‘big six’ while Boro receive a windfall for a player they had previously written off.

    Gunners plotting Old Lady revenge
Arsenal were left reeling when Juventus beat them to the signing of Dusan Vlahovic back in January, but they are now preparing for some swift revenge.
Juve are said to have identified Verona centre-forward Giovanni Simeone – son of Atletico Madrid boss Diego – as a potential strike partner for Vlahovic.
However, according to Tuttomercatoweb, the Gunners are now considering swooping for the 26-year-old from under the nose of the Old Lady.
The 26-year-old Simeone bagged 17 goals in 36 Serie A appearances for Verona last term.
    Kenny set for Everton exit
Jonjoe Kenny will leave Everton this month after 16 years with the Merseyside club.
The 25-year-old right-back had been offered a new deal to stay with the Toffees, but has instead opted to look for first team football elsewhere.
Kenny joined the club’s youth system at the age of six, but has struggled to cement a place in the team in recent seasons, having to make do with a number of loan spells away.
Also leaving Everton when their contracts expire at the end of this month are Fabian Delph, Cenk Tosun and Gylfi Sigurdsson.
    Spurs want to lead Eagle
Tottenham have turned their attention to Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi as they look to boost their squad ahead of the new season.
Antonio Conte had identified AC Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni as his number one defensive target, but the Italian now looks destined to remain at the San Siro.
And so Spurs are now preparing to test Palace’s resolve with a bid for one of their young stars.
Guehi impressed during his first season at Selhurst Park following his move from Chelsea, and earned his first cap for England in March.

    Arsenal enter race for Raphinha
Arsenal are the latest club to be considering a bid for Leeds United ace Raphinha, according to The Telegraph.
The Brazilian is widely expected to depart Elland Road this summer with a number of of European giants linked to the 25-year-old.
Barcelona had been considered favourites to land the forward, but their financial constraints may make it difficult to finalise a deal – and now the Gunners are hoping to take advantage.
The Londoners will make an attractive offer for Raphinha, supplemented by the sale of record signing Nicolas Pepe.

    Forest suffer huge Samba blow
Nottingham Forest have been dealt a shock blow after goalkeeper Brice Samba told the club he wants to leave.
The fan’s favourite is about to enter the final year of his contract and is reluctant to sign a new deal, according to The Athletic.
The Congo-born stopper became a hero at the City Ground after saving three penalties in the play-off semi-final penalty shootout versus Sheffield United.
And it’s because of his achievements and popularity that he wants out.
Samba’s decision is not said is to be financially motivated but about respect.
It comes as a surprise considering Samba has formed a strong bond with the city and the club.

    Rivaldo: Richarlison should join Arsenal
Brazilian legend Rivaldo believes that a move to Arsenal would be perfect for his compatriot Richarlison.
The Everton forward has been linked with the Emirates after his exploits in helping the Toffees beat the drop last season.
And Rivaldo feels it could be a signing that suits Mikel Arteta’s team too.
Speaking in his role as Betfair Ambassador, the former Barcelona star said: “This could be a big summer for Richarlison.
“He looks set to leave Everton, with several big clubs interested, and Arsenal looks a good option for the forward.
“The Gunners have Edu as their director and, after working with Tite until 2019, the ex-Arsenal midfielder knows Richarlison very well from the Brazilian national team.
“Joining a club that fights near the top of the Premier League could be important for Richarlison, after a tough season with Everton, in which he was crucial to saving the club from relegation.
“If he gets a big move, he will have a better chance of becoming a first choice forward for Brazil at the World Cup in Qatar.”
    Big Blues offer for Koulibaly
Chelsea hope to tempt Kalidou Koulibaly to Stamford Bridge with a whopping €10m-per-year offer, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Napoli centre-back has previously spoken about his desire to finish his player career with the Italian club, but may be enticed by the contract tabled by the Premier League outfit.
However, any deal would have to be financially beneficial to Napoli too, and the Serie A side are holding out for a transfer deal in the region of €40m.
The 30-year-old Senegalese international has made more than 300 appearances in eight years with the Naples club.

    Seagulls swoop for talented teen
Brighton are on the verge of completing the signing of Julio Enciso for £10m, report The Athletic.

Juventus are also keen on the 26-year-old attacking midfielder, who is said to have had a number of offers from abroad.
Asensio scored ten goals in 31 LaLiga appearances for Real last term.

    Gunners confirm Nketiah contract offer
Arsenal have included Eddie Nketiah among the list of players whose contracts are due to expire this month as the Premier League prepare to announce their free transfer list.
However, the Gunners are keen to point out that a new deal has been offered to the striker, and discussions are ongoing.
In a statement on the club’s website, Arsenal said “Please note, any further developments regarding players extending their contracts; joining/re-joining us; or leaving us will be officially communicated as soon as they are confirmed.”

    Wilson: Fulham in good Nec
Welsh World Cup hero Neco Williams should quit Liverpool to join newly-promoted Fulham.
That’s the view of international teammate Harry Wilson, who made the same move himself last summer.
Williams spent the second half of last season on loan with the Cottagers as they claimed the Championship title, and starred for his country in the weekend’s play-off triumph over Ukraine.
Liverpool have slapped a £15m asking price on the right-back, but are already considering replacements with a move for Aberdeen teenager Calvin Ramsey looking likely.
