Liverpool 1 Crystal Palace 1 LIVE RESULT: Diaz wonder strike saves Reds after Nunez gets SENT OFF for erratic headbutt

LIVERPOOL’S winless run to the 2022/23 Premier League season continues having failed to beat Crystal Palace in what was a thrilling encounter.Wilfried Zaha stunned Anfield and fired Palace into the lead with a well-placed finish following a beautiful passage of play.
And Jurgen Klopp’s day went from bad to worse when he witnessed his £85 million striker Darwin Nunez given a red card for a reckless headbutt on Joachim Andersen.
However Luis Diaz rescued a point for the home side with a wonderful solo long range effort.

    RESULT: Liverpool 1-1 Palace
TV/Live stream: Sky Sports Main Event & Premier League

    Resilient Palace.
Crystal Palace showed great resilience today, and got a point that they didn’t deserve based on the stats.
However, a fantastic counter attack from them was finished superbly by Wilfried Zaha, and that was enough to get a point for the Eagles.
They were also pretty good at the back, with gritty performances from Anderson and Guehi in particular who were both excellent.

    Dazzling Diaz!
Luis Diaz was incredible tonight, and showed some moments of magic that were worthy of watch two, three or even four times over.
His goal was superb, as he jinked down the left hand side and beat FOUR men in white before smashing a shot into the right hand side of the net from outside the box.
He also worked relentlessly for the Reds, most notably in the second half when he tracked back from a corner all the way to the half way line to win the ball back and set LFC on another attack.
It was a coming of age display for Diaz tonight, and Klopp will be pleased with the performance, despite the result.
    Man of the match
The SunSport man of the match today goes to Luis Diaz.
The Colombian scored an absolute worldie tonight, as he danced past four Palace defenders and smashed the ball into the right hand side of the goal from outside the box.
There were a number of good performers, especially for Palace as Zaha caused Liverpool trouble all afternoon, as well as Anderson being brilliant at the back.
Who was YOUR man of the match tonight?

    Nunez sees red!
Well what a game we had tonight as Crystal Palace saw off an onslaught of Liverpool attacks to draw the game 1-1.
Apart from Luis Diaz wonder goal, the most dangerous Liverpool attack of the night came from Darwin Nunez, and it was not a shot on goal.
But rather it was a headbutt on Joachim Anderson from the Uruguayan, which saw him sent off in the second half.

The Egyptian fires a shot from just inside the box, but it is narrowly wide of the left hand post.
    85. Liverpool 1-1 Crystal Palace
    Tsimikas disappoints with another cross.
The Greek Scouser, as he is affectionately known, is a brilliant player, but his delivery has not been up to the standard of Andy Robertson since he came on.
    83. Liverpool 1-1 Crystal Palace
Liverpool continue to be on the front foot now as Palace have moved to a more defensive setup.
Diaz looks to slip through Carvalho, but the ball doesn’t reach the 19-year-old Portuguese talent.
    80. Liverpool 1-1 Crystal Palace
Fabio Carvalho is on for Harvey Elliot.
Chris Richards, Will Hughes and Luka Milovojevic are all on for Palace, and they will replace Eze, Mitchell and Doucoure.

He stretches for the ball and reaches it, but can only direct it onto the post.

The Eagles look to counter, but Diaz tracks all the way back to halfway to win the ball back and start Liverpool on another attack.

Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham LIVE RESULT: Tuchel and Conte given RED CARDS as tensions explode after late Harry Kane equaliser

TOTTENHAM have earned a barely deserved point in a fiery London derby at Stamford Bridge.Kalidou Koulibaly volleyed the Blues in front in a first half which the Blues dominated.
But Jorginho sloppily gave the ball away in his own penalty area, allowing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to coolly fire the ball into the bottom corner.
However, Reece James was then left in acres of space to put the Blues back ahead.
But Harry Kane equalised with a simple close range header from a 95th minute corner.
And tensions would then boil over between Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte after their attempt at a post-match handshake almost turned into a brawl.

    That’s all for today
Chelsea and Tottenham played out a thriller at Stamford Bridge, with Harry Kane nabbing a point for Spurs at the death.
But it was what went on between the managers that will be the talking point for plenty of time to come.
Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte had to be separated and both received their marching orders following an intense post-match handshake.
That means Tuchel is set to miss Chelsea’s game at Leeds while Conte will be absent from the dugout for Spurs’ home match with Wolves.
    Werner watched on…
Timo Werner had flown back from Germany to watch the game today.

    Thomas Tuchel – “Absolutely ridiculous”
The Chelsea boss feels that he has reason to be raging at referee Anthony Taylor, and made his thoughts known after the game.
    Tuchel stated:
Both goals should not stand. Only one team deserved to win, that was us. I don’t know how many tactical fouls Hojbjerg and Bentancur did today. Since when can we pull hair in a football match? They checked and nothing happened, absolutely ridiculous.Thomas Tuchelon referee decisions
    Man of the match
The SunSport man of the match award today goes to Reece James.
There were a number of excellent performers out there, most of them for Chelsea as they dominated the game.
The English right-back started the game on the right hand side of a back three, and did a great job to keep Heung Min Son quiet.
He then moved to his preferred right wing back position when Jorginho went off, and put a ball on a platter for Kai Havertz, before scoring himself after receiving a pass from Raheem Sterling.
Who was your man of the match today?

    A departure for Spurs…
Following that blockbuster of a game, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed an outgoing for Antonio Conte’s side.
The transfer specialist announced via his Twitter account, that Giovanni Lo Celso will be leaving the North London side on loan to Villareal, where he spent last season too.

    Battle of the Bridge 2.0
That was a brilliant watch for any football fan, unless of course you support Chelsea that is.
In 2016, we saw one of the most badly-tempered games of football between Chelsea and Tottenham that ultimately saw Spurs lose out on the league title to Leicester at Stamford Bridge.
This game was not too far from it, in terms of the passion it was played with.
Romero vs Havertz. James vs Son. Conte vs Tuchel.
All three matchups were excellently contested by both parties, in a game that was as ill-tempered as Ronaldo after 90 minutes against Brentford.

    Chelsea fans fume at VAR.
Chelsea fans on social media are absolutely fuming at the lack of influence the video assistant referee had on this game.
Before the corner that led to Spurs’ second goal, Marc Cucurella was dragged down by his hair by Cristian Romero.
VAR checked it for violent conduct, but deemed it not so.
VAR can only be used for red cards, goals, and penalties, so the referee was unable to pull it back for a foul on Cucurella.
    Both managers sent off.
Antonio Conte and Thomas Tuchel were both sent off at full-time for a brawl that began after the first Spurs goal, and ended after the second.
    See the bust-up below…

    Two points dropped for Chelsea.
    Chelsea absolutely dominated that game.
Thomas Tuchel’s side were by far the better side, and looked like a really good team from start to finish.
But ultimately, Jorginho’s drag-back in the box cost them for the first goal, before a wicked Harry Kane header dragged Spurs level again in the 95th minute.
Thomas Tuchel was absolutely livid after both goals, as he felt that there was a foul on Kai Havertz in the build up to the first one.
There was also controversy for Spurs’ second, as Marc Cucurella was dragged down by his hair by Cristian Romero and no foul was given despite a VAR check for violent conduct.

The Chelsea press leads to Emerson putting the ball out for a Chelsea throw in…
    [14] Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham Hotspur.
Nothing comes of the free-kick, as James plays it short to Mount, who’s cross is cut out.
Chelsea have 66% possession compared to Tottenham’s 34% in the opening 15 minutes of this one.
    [12] Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham Hotspur.
Jorginho does well to intercept a Sessegnon pass, and Loftus-Cheek does really well to play a one-two with N’golo Kante on the right hand side.
Sessegnon leaves a late challenge on RLC, and the Blues have a free-kick on the right hand side.
    [10] Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham Hotspur.
Cucurella catches Romero, by accidentally standing on him.
Romero is fine and gets back up.
    [8] Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs are looking to gain control of the game at the minute, and hold some possession, but Hojbjerg gives it away in midfield.
A chance falls to Marc Cucurella on the edge of the box, who has a go on the volley, but the shot is blocked.
    [6] Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham Hotspur.
Kane finds a lovely pass into Emerson Royal, who squeezes a cross in, but it is gathered with ease by Edouard Mendy.
Kane then gives away a foul on Reece James, who looks to drive out from the Chelsea back line.
    [4] Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham Hotspur.
Koulibaly gives an early free kick in the attacking third to Harry Kane.
Son takes it, but fires it over the bar from the right hand side.
    [2] Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham Hotspur.
Jorginho lost possession early on to Dejan Kulusevski, who burst through the middle and found Heung Min Son, but the Korean couldn’t get a shot on goal.
    [0] Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham Hotspur.
Anthony Taylor gets Chelsea underway, here we go!
    Five minutes to go…
We have five minutes until kick-off in this absolutely massive London derby, the players are coming out of the tunnel, and onto the pitch.
We will have kick off with you very soon.
    Predictions?
At SunSport we think it’s going to be a very close one today, with Tottenham looking to end their poor run of results at Stamford Bridge.
We think they might just do it, if Harry Kane and Son continue to be on red hot form, supported by Dejan Kulusevski.
However, this one is simply too close to call, as Chelsea can be as good as any team in the world defensively on their day.
We are going to go with a 2-2 draw in this one, but who do you think will win it?

Henderson saves Rice penalty to seal historic win after Awoniyi strike at rocking City ground

FOUR PAGES of Nottingham Forest’s matchday programme was dedicated to showing off TWELVE of their new arrivals. And one of them ended Forest’s 23-year wait to rewrite history as club-record signing Taiwo Awoniyi scored their first goal back in the big-time at a sun-kissed City Ground.

Rice’s tame penalty was easily saved by HendersonCredit: Reuters
Another new face in Dean Henderson should also be heralded after saving Declan Rice’s 64th-minute penalty.
The irony is, since publishing those programme pages, Forest have completed two more deals for Crystal Palace’s Cheikhou Kouyate and Watford’s Emmanuel Dennis.
And further ink needs to be put aside for Brighton’s Neal Maupay in the coming days.
Fifteen in total with no sign of stopping in one of the most hectic and chaotic transfer windows in Premier League history.

And if Kouyate, Dennis and Maupay have a similar impact to the 12 already loving life in the top flight, Steve Cooper’s men could make this even more of a campaign to cherish.
In the space that was left in the programme, boss Cooper spoke of doing more than just making up the numbers after guiding them back to the Prem for the first time since 1999.
They certainly proved that against West Ham in a real thriller of a battle in the August heat that harped back to the rough-and-ready days when Forest were regulars at this level.
Awoniyi – a £17m buy from Union Berlin – bullied and tormented the visiting back four before his fortuitous goal with seconds left of the first half.

And it could have been more just after the break had Brennan Johnson’s chip not been ruled out for offside.
The Hammers had their moments. Said Benrahma had a strike chalked off by VAR moments before Awoniyi’s effort, before he and Pablo Fornals both smacked the bar.
But in complete contrast to Forest, David Moyes’ struggling side are in desperate need of freshening up with no new signings in their starting XI and two losses from two.
Fifteen incomings? Just a couple more would do for Moyes despite £30m striker Gianluca Scamacca and £17.5m winger Maxwel Cornet coming off the bench to no avail in the second half.
Flashbacks to old faces dominated the build-up, looking back to the first televised game of the Prem era, also on a Sunday in August 1992, as Teddy Sheringham’s goal saw Forest beat Liverpool.
But it was new faces that dominated Forest’s starting line-up. Only three names from last season remained in Johnson, Joe Worrall and Scott McKenna.
Two new additions in Awoniyi and Orel Mangala also started after being on the bench for the opening day defeat away at Newcastle.
The atmosphere was electric at kick-off as Forest’s ditty Mull of Kintyre burst a few eardrums, although you could still hear the away end’s disdain for Jesse Lingard who snubbed a return to east London this summer.
The plan to throw fake notes onto the pitch was executed early on, but bizarrely at Neco Williams when he went to take a corner. Mistaken identity perhaps?
Rice seemed to get the message, picking up an early yellow for hauling down Lingard on the counter as any fears Forest’s chemistry and cohesion may be off with so many new names was quickly quashed.
They failed to have a single shot on target at St James’ Park but were making up for it here as Awoniyi came close on several occasions.
West Ham found their feet with Benrahma’s curling effort being palmed away by Henderson and Tomas Soucek was denied a rebound by Harry Toffolo.
And they were soon celebrating following a speedy counter started and finished by Benrahma thanks to Rice’s neat pick-out.
VAR rightly intervened however, spotting Michail Antonio barge over Mangala earlier in the phase and referee Robert Jones seconded that at the monitor.
Forest responded with a legitimate goal. Lewis O’Brien jinked into the box, Lingard fluffed his attempt and Ben Johnson’s block bounced off Awoniyi’s knee and in. Cue the noise.
Just like the first, the second half was both mesmeric and frantic as Fornals clattered the bar with a long-range effort and Henderson acrobatically stopped Soucek’s follow-up.
VAR was busy, chalking off Johnson’s dink over Lukasz Fabianski for straying offside, with the Polish keeper then doing well to get in the way of Moussa Niakhate’s header.
But after Benrahma hit the bar again with a free-kick, Forest conceded a needless spot-kick as McKenna’s outstretched arm blocked Soucek’s shot despite Henderson’s presence.
The monitor was used once more and skipper Rice stepped up only to produce a tame side-footer.
A fuming Moyes acted by bringing on Scamacca and then Cornet for a late rally.

It barely materialised, Zouma coming closest as his header was brilliantly cleared off the line by Williams as the hosts clung on. Cue more noise.
Forest are back, and the Premier League is all the richer for it.

Brentford vs Man Utd LIVE: Stream, TV channel, teams, kick-off time – Cristiano Ronaldo STARTS in Premier League game

MANCHESTER UNITED have recalled Cristiano Ronaldo to the starting line-up as they look for a much improved performance at Brentford today.A quickfire double from Pascal Gross was enough for Brighton to condemn Erik ten Hag to a humiliating 2-1 defeat in his opening game.
And that has been enough to convince the Dutch manager to recall that wantaway five-time Ballon d’Or winner to the squad.
But United may well be pleased to see today’s opponents as they beat them 3-0 and 3-1 in their meetings last season.

    Kick-off time: 5.30pm
TV channel: Sky Sports Main Event/Sky Sports Premier League
    Live stream: Sky Go/Now TV
Brentford XI: Raya; Hickey, Jansson, Mee, Henry; Roerslev, Norgaard, Jensen; Mbuemo, Toney, Dasilva.
Man Utd XI: De Gea; Dalot, Maguire, Martinez, Shaw; Eriksen, Fred, Fernandes; Sancho, Ronaldo, Rashford.

Dasilva looks to pick up from last week.
Josh Dasilva scored from his first shot on target in the league last week, with Thomas Frank heaping praise on him for his performance.
He starts for the Bees today, and with the incoming Mikkel Damsgaard cranking the pressure up, he will need to continue to prove his worth.
    A hot one in London
The temperature is reading around 34 degrees in the capital at the moment, with it already forcing matches earlier today to have drinks breaks in the middle of the halves.
Who will that have an effect on most tonight?
    Take two for Martinez
While last week certainly didn’t go to plan on a wider scale, the debuting Lisandro Martinez also had a first appearance to forget.
Looking as uncertain at times as his partner Harry Maguire, there was certainly no base for United to build on last week.
The pair start together today, with them being offered another chance to prove they should be the starting duo this season.
City and Arsenal set to make statements
United’s players will no doubt have an eye on what two of their biggest rivals have been up to today, although it won’t be pretty reading.
City are four to the good against Bournemouth, meanwhile a Gabriel Jesus inspired Arsenal are set to continue their perfect start against Leicester City.

Toney looking to reach the next level
Last season saw Ivan Toney transition to Premier League life about as seamlessly as any promoted striker has in recent years.
After his goal last week, he’ll be hoping that’s the start of another big season in the top flight.
He starts up top for the hosts again.
    Ronaldo is back
So the Portugal international does start for United today, with the importance of a result today overshadowing any off-field antics.
As for Brentford, their new man Mikkel Damsgaard will have to wait for his first minutes for them, as he starts from the bench.
    Team News: United
De Gea; Dalot, Maguire, Martinez, Shaw; Fred, Eriksen, Fernandes; Rashford, Ronaldo, Sancho
    Team News: Brentford
Raya; Roerslev, Hickey, Jansson, Mee, Henry; Norgaard, Jensen, Dasilva; Mbuemo, Toney
    Eriksen returns
Brentford gave Christian Eriksen his return to professional football midway through last season, when he signed a short-term contract to feature for them.
He looked close to his best straight away, and Manchester United saw enough to make him one of their signings of the summer.
Now, he returns to London and could start against his former side.
    Result essential for Red Devils
With Liverpool awaiting them next week, anything other than a win could see serious questions approaching Erik ten Hag very soon.
With them unlikely to beat Jurgen Klopp’s men, starting the season without a win in three is simply unacceptable for a club with the ambitions of United.
    A lot riding on today…
    Elsewhere today
United fans will have taken no joy from the games in the Premier League so far to day, with local rivals Manchester City already three to the good against Bournemouth.
Arsenal, who have top four ambitions of their own were two up against Leicester, but a William Saliba own goal has pulled the Foxes back into things there.
You can follow The Sun’s coverage of the pair of games here:
    Manchester City vs Bournemouth
    Arsenal vs Leicester City
    Debut for Damsgaard?
The latest addition to the West London side is Mikkel Damsgaard, who joined earlier this week from Serie A side Sampdoria.
Thomas Frank has hinted that if he features today, it is likely to be from the bench.
    A start for Ronaldo?
The five-time Balon d’Or winner was only on the bench last week, with him forced to watch from the side as United fell two behind in the first half at Old Trafford.
With Anthony Martial still out with injury, today could be the day the great man makes his first start for the new manager.
    Good Afternoon!
Hello, and welcome to The Sun’s coverage of Brentford vs Manchester United!
Erik ten Hag’s men will be desperate to kickstart their season following last week’s shambolic defeat to Brighton.
However, the Bees will be inspired by their comeback in the second half against Leicester City last weekend, and will be calling on their brilliant home support to help them today.

Man City 4 Bournemouth 0: Champions thrash Prem new-boys and they didn’t even need Haaland on the scoresheet

ERLING HAALAND may be the new kid in town – but there’s no doubting who remains the old master around here.Seconds before Haaland’s Etihad bow began, Kevin De Bruyne gave Manchester City’s deadly young striker the biggest of hugs.
Gundogan opened the scoring for CityCredit: Getty
Whether he whispered in his ear “Don’t forget, I’m still the gaffer, mind” is highly doubtful.
But given the way De Bruyne proceeded to turn on the sort of champion masterclass that has become the norm, rather than the exception, you wouldn’t have been surprised.
While all eyes were on Haaland – certainly the Bournemouth defence’s were, more often that it merited really – it was City’s Belgian who ran the show.
He scored one, made another, and generally wreaked havoc whenever the ball was glued to his magic feet.
De Bruyne doubled City’s leadCredit: Rex
The Belgian then set Foden up for the thirdCredit: Getty
Meanwhile Haaland managed just eight touches all game, albeit setting up Ilkay Gundogan for the opener.
Often, it should be pointed out, that was down to having two, sometimes three, men to snuff out any threat.
But even if Bournemouth had left Haaland to his own devices, when De Bruyne is in this mood, no-one else is ever going to steal the show.
The Cherries certainly weren’t. Although to be fair they were always going to be on a hiding to nothing against the champions, whether they had Europe’s most potent young hitman in the ranks or not.
They had gone to the Etihad as near 50-1 no hopers. The same price as United to actually win the league. In both cases you’d struggle to find anyone willing to risk a fiver.
Within five minutes the few daft souls – there are always some – who had done so would have realised they’d done their dough.
And that was before Haaland had made the most devastating of impacts with his first touch…even though it did take a tad over 18 minutes to arrive.
By then Bournemouth keeper Mark Travers had shown smart reactions to turn Phil Foden’s drive wide, when De Bruyne’s fizzer struck him on the heel to inadvertently tee him up.
But the dam burst when Gundogan drilled a ball into Haaland’s feet, with his back to goal, and Ben Pearson and Jefferson Lerma marshalling him.
They may as well not have bothered. For as Haaland spun and fell, he flicked out his foot to tee up Gundogan – who had carried on his run – perfectly and he produced a finish the Norwegian would have been happy with.
Mind you, that’s the thing with City. Just when you think you might have the shackles on one, someone else pops up to rip you apart.
And while Haaland may have a reputation as the greatest goalscorer around, De Bruyne is pretty much tops for everything else.
The brilliant Belgian can cause enough damage when you double team him. So back off and give him time and space, and the result is pretty much a given.
Yet that’s what Bournemouth did as he danced towards the edge of the box on half an hour – largely with half an eye on the lurking Haaland, just waiting for the killer pass.
It never came. Instead De Bruyne just strolled to the edge of the box and stroked the perfect finish into the far corner with the outside of his right boot.
If there had been little doubt to that point, there was certainly none thereafter. Damage limitation was as good as Bournemouth could hope for.
In fairness they did drag a save from Ederson when Pearson snapped in a shot, even if it was little more than a training ground stop.
Opposite number Travers was certainly getting a lot more work, although the Bournemouth keeper won’t have been happy at his efforts to keep out the third, from Foden.
Again the creation came from the masterful feet of De Bruyne, who nutmegged Chris Mapham with a cuttingly simple ball to tee up his team-mate.
Foden’s finish was anything but the greatest strike of his life…but still better than the efforts of Travers to keep it out.
Haaland’s one hint of a chance to that point had been a lofted Rodri ball which left him little space to control and get a shot off as it dropped over Lerma’s head.
And his instinctive, impulsive swinging boot produced a looping effort – tipped over by Travers – that was anything but a clinical take-aim-and-fire strike.
But by then we were already in “how many” territory, and Bournemouth can take some solace from the fact that they only leaked one more, 11 minutes from the end.
Admittedly it came from the boot of one of their own, Lerman inadvertently turning Joao Cancelo’s drilled cross into his own net, albeit under huge pressure.
Haaland himself was back on the bench at that stage, dragged off to a huge ovation by Pep Guardiola on 73 minutes.
His last act had been to drag a low strike wide of the far post. The big Norwegian needn’t worry…there are plenty of days in the sun to come for him.
Yesterday’s belonged to De Bruyne. Not for the first time either – or the last, either.
