    Big games keep on coming
United go into the international break with a rest week after their game this weekend with Leeds Utd having been postponed.
The games come thick and fast after the break with a Manchester derby first up for Erik ten Hag’s side.
A trip to the Etihad Stadium to face Erling Haaland awaits.
All eyes on trip to Spain
With the importance of finishing top of your group greater than ever this season in the Europa League, United know they still have to chase down Real Sociedad.
Following their 1-0 win at Old Trafford, the Spanish outfit beat Omonia Nicosia 2-1 this evening to sit top of the group with six points.
If both sides win all their other games, this could lead to a showdown game at the Reale Arena in Basque country.
    Back to winning ways
After defeat in their opening Europa League group game, Erik ten Hag’s side have managed to right some wrongs tonight.
Making the long trip to Moldova something to enjoy for their travelling fans.

Goals not a problem in Europe
Man Utd make it their sixteenth game away from home in Europe in a row that they have scored in.
The first goal is always all so important irrelevant to the opposition you face and this could have been a much trickier game if they had let the hosts get their tails up early on.
Given the wealth of quality within the squad, you would have to point to United as one of the favourites to win this season’s Europa League.
With a Champions League spot for the team who take the trophy home, no side can look down their nose at adding this trophy to their cabinet anymore.
Are you watching St George’s Park?
Jadon Sancho will feel that he let his feet do the talking this evening after his being dropped from the latest England squad.
The £72.9m signing scored the first goal with what was literally his first sniff of goal of the game.
He will feel disappointed that he was denied a second goal after his shot had the keeper beaten before the defender cleared it off the line.

The referee brings the game to a close.
United have come to Moldova and come away with all three points.
A routine night at the office and a comfortable win.
They go into the international break with a European win under their belt.

    Sheriff 0-2 Man Utd
    88. Casemiro is penalised for a foul on the edge of the United box.
Great chance for the home side to get a goal.
If Sheriff were to score it would make for a nervy finish.
The ball is struck under the wall but de Gea gets down well to save.
    Sheriff 0-2 Man Utd
    86. Antony looks to stretch his legs down the right.
Cutting inside looking to make something happen.
Greeted with a cluster of black shirts he opts to pass the ball backwards to retain possession.
    Sheriff 0-2 Man Utd
    84. Such is the difference in class between these two sides, at times this can look like an exhibition match.
Sheriff are having to trying to thread balls through that United are cutting out all too easily.
Elanga is looking lively since his introduction.
    Sheriff 0-2 Man Utd
    82. Anthony Elanga comes on for Cristiano Ronaldo.
Some fresh legs brought on in the final third.
The sub immediately wins his side a corner.
It seems Jadon Sancho is playing down the middle now.
    Sheriff 0-2 Man Utd
    80. If United can hold on to this win, it will be their third successive win on the road.
A step in the right direction from earlier in the season.
They haven’t last done so since November 2020.

    Sheriff 0-2 Man Utd
    78. Fernandes plays a great ball into space for Luke Shaw.
Sprinting down the touchline, he has a great chance to cross.
Unable to find a United shirt in the box, the attack breaks down.
    Sheriff 0-2 Man Utd
    76. Sheriff seem to have got a second wind.
The full backs are streaming forward when they have possession.
Looking to get in behind the visitors full backs.
    Sheriff 0-2 Man Utd
    74. Ronaldo looks to link with Antony and slot the Brazilian in.
Not enough on the pass to find his team mate however.
Good signs for United with the two linking up in the final third.
de Gea has his first save of the second half to make.
    Sheriff 0-2 Man Utd
    72. The United fans make themselves heard again.
This spurs the home faithful into attempting to drown them out.
While United are looking comfortable, a goal for the home side would really change the whole complexion of this game.
    Credit: AP
    Sheriff 0-2 Man Utd
    70. Diogo Dalot leaves the game, replaced by Luke Shaw.
Antony goes to ground as he looks to nutmeg his opponent.
Still a very patient build up from the Red Devils.
    Sheriff 0-2 Man Utd
    68. Casemiro really adds composure to this United midfield.
Skipping past players in small spaces with a drop of the shoulder or quick turn.
The ball is squared back to Ronaldo on the edge of the box but he cannot find that top corner with his shot.
    Sheriff 0-2 Man Utd
    66. Here’s a fun drinking game, you down your drink whenever Robbie Savage mentions his son during commentary of a United game.
Be warned, this is not something to be taken on if you have work tomorrow.
Sheriff are still trying to carve out some sort of opening.
    Sheriff 0-2 Man Utd
    64. Antony chases down a lost cause and backheels the ball to stop it going out of play.
It does seem the rest of the team are not quite on his wavelength just yet.
    That will come with time.
    United win another corner.
Eriksen is struggling to find white shirts with his corners this evening.
    Sheriff 0-2 Man Utd
    62. Fernandes lets the officials know what he thinks of them.
United are awarded a corner which Eriksen comes over to take.
The Dane struggles to beat the man at the near post and the ball is cleared.
    Credit: Reuters
Sheriff 0-2 Man Utd – Rasheed chance!
    60. The ball breaks to the Sheriff forward outside of the box.
With a bit of space with defenders standing off him he spots de Gea off his line.
Trying a cheeky chip, the Spanish keeper has it covered as it lands on the roof of the net.
    Sheriff 0-2 Man Utd
    58. Since the introduction of Casemiro, Sheriff are struggling with this quick counter attacks.
The home side are chasing shadows now.
United really do need another goal to kill the hosts off.
    Sheriff 0-2 Man Utd
    56. Casemiro does well to prevent a Sheriff counter.
It seems that is his job for this second half, to ensure that they do not allow the hosts to make a game of this.
United are knocking on the door without really threatening the Sheriff goal in this second half.
    Sheriff 0-2 Man Utd
    54. The home fans have gone quiet now.
Struggling to find something to get to the edge of their seats for.
Sancho is fouled near the touchline with a neat turn.

    That’s all from Stamford Bridge
That’s your lot then. Thank you for joining us.
The Potter era is underway, not quite in style, but only time will tell whether he can turn things around at Chelsea.
    Goodnight!
    “The boys gave everything”
A disappointed but positive Graham Potter reacted to his side’s performance after the game:
We’re disappointed with the result in the end. I thought the boys gave everything, really did. They attacked quite well. Scored a good goal. Their keeper made some good saves. So overall, disappointed with the result. It wasn’t quite to be today.
They defended well with blocks, and we had a few efforts we didn’t do so well with, but against a Champions League side, you’re not going to open them up so easily.
It is what it is. We have to dust ourselves down, but the application of the boys was fantastic, the attitude was great, the personality as well, so we’ll get better.Graham Potter, Chelsea boss

    Same old story
Graham Potter applauds the fans who he is yet to win over based on that 90 minutes.
The performance was there, but it was the same old story up front as a number of chances went begging.
Sterling got the scoring underway early in the second half. But they couldn’t hold on, allowing Okafor the opportunity to level the scores.
Blues fans may focus on the positives. They were dominant for most of the match. However, Chelsea’s treacherous European journey continues.
Group leaders AC Milan lie in waiting, and will be licking their lips at a Chelsea side who seem unable to get the job done.

    Full-time – Chelsea 1-1 Salzburg
The whistle is blown after an enthralling last few minutes at Stamford Bridge.
In truth, Chelsea let that one slip. They had opportunities to put the game to bed but couldn’t take them. Ziyech, Broja and James all had chances to win it.
But Potter’s first game in charge ends in a draw, more significantly leaving them bottom of group E.
    Chelsea 1-1 Salzburg
90+3, The ball drops to Ziyech who lines up the volley, but gets it all wrong, sending it bouncing into the arms of Kohn.
    Chelsea 1-1 Salzburg
90+2, Broja with the chance to win it!
The ball bobbles around a messy six-yard box following Ziyech’s in-swinging cross. It bounces kindly for Broja who leathers it over the bar. He has to hit the target there.
    Chelsea 1-1 Salzburg
90+1, Groans ring out around Stamford Bridge as Ziyech’s corner doesn’t beat the first man. So frustrating.
    Chelsea 1-1 Salzburg
90, Ziyech wins a corner and Chelsea flood the box.
There will be four added minutes time here.
    Chelsea 1-1 Salzburg
89, Capaldo is booked for a challenge on Cucurella right on the half-way line.
One more minute plus stoppage time for either side to grab a winner.
    Chelsea 1-1 Salzburg
87, All the chances are falling to Ziyech.
Pulisic floats a good ball to the back post where Ziyech was arriving. But his downward header is straight at Kohn. He would have been better trying to find Broja in the middle.
    Chelsea 1-1 Salzburg
84, Speak of the devil, Sterling is off for Pulisic.
Goalscorer Okafor also hobbles off for the visitors. Koita is on.
    Chelsea 1-1 Salzburg
82, Ziyech so nearly scores with his first touch!
Broja flashes a ball across the face and Kohn spreads himself brilliantly to deny the Moroccan from point-blank range.
Ziyech then over-hits a simple pass to Gallagher in behind. Then again, Sterling might have got to that one.
    Chelsea 1-1 Salzburg
81, More changes from Graham Potter who must be moving to a back three.
Zieych is on for Azpilicueta, whilst Gallagher is on for Kovacic.
    Chelsea 1-1 Salzburg
77, Pavlovic slides in late on Loftus-Cheek, a few blades of grass from the six-yard box and is booked by the referee.
Jorginho rolls the free kick to James on the edge of the area who sends his first-time shot narrowly over.
    GOAL! – Chelsea 1-1 Salzburg
    74, Okafor equalises!
    Chelsea had been warned.
The hosts lose concentration and Salzburg catch them on the break. Adamu gets down the right and plays a simple ball across goal to Okafor who sweeps the ball home via a little deflection from Azpilicueta.
Chelsea switch off, Salzburg punish them.
    .Credit: Getty
    Chelsea 1-0 Salzburg
73, Kemari whips in a dangerous ball and Okafor has a free header. But it’s straight at Kepa.
A stark reminder that Chelsea aren’t home and dry yet. Just one goal in it.
    Chelsea 1-0 Salzburg
72, Pavlovic wipes out Loftus-Cheek from behind, conceding the free-kick. Broja looks fine to continue.
    Chelsea 1-0 Salzburg
70, Salzburg make a couple of changes. Sucic and Sesko are off. Kameri and Adamu are on.
    Chelsea 1-0 Salzburg
68, Thiago Silva with a typically perfect sliding challenge on his man.
A joy to watch on the replays.
Meanwhile, Broja is down after a nasty looking clash of heads.
    Chelsea 1-0 Salzburg
67, Broja almost with an immediate impact.
Kovacic slides Broja in behind who sends his effort rolling wide of the goal under challenge.
The flag is the raised for offside against the Albanian, perhaps saving his blushes. He should have put it away.
    Chelsea 1-0 Salzburg
66, That will be the German’s last contribution. He makes way for Loftus-Cheek.
Aubameyang is also withdrawn for Broja.
    Chelsea 1-0 Salzburg
65, Jorginho, pulling the strings again, chips a first time ball into Havertz who fluffs his lines, sending his first-time volley bouncing wide.
    Chelsea 1-0 Salzburg
64, Sesko holds the ball up well and it’s poked into Okafor who goes down rather optimistically in the area.
Broja is warming up for the hosts.
    Chelsea 1-0 Salzburg
62, Groans ring out around the Bridge as Sterling wanders unnecessarily offside in a promising situation.
The game has fallen a little flat.
    Chelsea 1-0 Salzburg
60, Jorginho teases another wicked ball into Aubameyang but Kohn is alert to the danger.
A relationship seems to be developing between the pair. Flashbacks to the relationship between Fabregas and Diego Costa all those years ago.
