Fernandes told BT Sport: “We know when they have a corner sometimes it seems like a goal for them.

“We want to show this spirit, this togetherness. It’s really important we carry this on”

Having won 8 of their 9 games in the league this season, Arsenal are showing the rest of the league how to win games consistently.
    Klopp left reeling with performances
With the exception of the departure of Sadio Mane, not a lot has changed in this Liverpool squad from the side who have been challenging Man City at every opportunity.
Yet the start they have made to this campaign suggests otherwise.
They do not look like the same team and are struggling to turn possession into goals all too often.
Liverpool are now 14 points behind the leaders, something that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later.

Crystal Palace 2 Leeds 1: Eagles move out of relegation zone thanks to superb late Eberechi Eze strike

EBERECHI EZE’S dazzling winner handed Crystal Palace only a SECOND Prem win of the season. The Greenwich-born midfielder’s sweet strike on 76 minutes was his first goal of the season, with his last one coming SEVEN MONTHS ago in April against Southampton last term.

    Edouard drew Palace levelCredit: Rex
Eze’s winner came after Odsonne Edouard cancelled out Pascal Struijk’s opener to put the South Londoners on nine points and hand them some valuable breathing space from the drop zone, for now.
Jesse Marsch is responsible for Patrick Vieira’s heaviest defeat as manager when his New York Bulls side beat the Frenchman’s NYCFC team 7-0 in the MLS back in 2016.
And it looked as though history would repeat itself in the opening 15 minutes with Leeds absolutely bossing it.
Patrick Bamford, on his first start in two months, was involved in the first real chance as he linked up with Rodrigo to dart into the box – but was snaffled up before he could get a shot away.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
It took a Lionel Messi-esque run from Brenden Aaronson to get the visitors on their way ten minutes in.
The former RB Salzburg winger’s twinkle toes twisted inside and out of FOUR Palace shirts before cracking a shot off the bar.
And Struijk was on standby to lash in the rebound with only his third career goal.
If there were points for sloppy passes, poor clearances and aimless hoofed shots then Palace would have been well ahead.

Moments after the goal they really looked rattled as Joachim Andersen, back from injury, passed back to Vicente Guaita who dilly dallied long enough for Jack Harrison to nick the ball off him.
But the Eagles were left off as the Stoke-born winger was unable to get his shot away or pick out a teammate.
It was Bamford’s turn next as he latched onto a delicious flick onf from Rodrigo, only to sting the palms of Guaita.
Somehow Palace survived the onslaught and snuck back a leveller against Marsch’s livewires on 24 minutes.
It was all down to the inch-perfect free-kick from Michael Olise which curled onto Edouard’s noggin for him to head home.
You could have heard a pin drop in the normally bouncing Selhurst Park as VAR threatened to ruin the party with a check for offside on Edouard’s armpit – but it stood.
Marsch was once again living dangerously in the technical area as he grumbled in fourth official Graham Scott’s ear throughout the first-half and all the way into the tunnel at the break.
After the break Liam Cooper produced a superb block to deny Jordan Ayew from close range, leaving his shot pinging up into the gods.
In fairness the Ghanain forward should have passed to the open Wilfired Zaha who had his head in his hands.
    Read More on The Sun
But Eze was there to save the day late on, thanks to Zaha’s wizardry in the build up.
A pretty passing sequence fell to Zaha who flicked the ball between his legs to find Eze who wriggled beyond Rasmus Kristensen and unleashed a fierce drive beyond Illan Meslier for 2-1.

West Ham 3 Fulham 1: Hammers lucky to snatch much-needed three points after controversial VAR call for Scamacca winner

THE PETULANCE of Andreas Pereira will be giving Marco Silva a few sleepless nights – just as much as another farcical VAR intervention.A stunning early solo effort from Fulham’s Pereira had him running into his manager’s arms – but will want to keep his distance after giving West Ham a route back into the game.

Having been warned not once but twice to not tangle with Craig Dawson in the box at a corner, Pereira decided to tackle him to the ground as Jarrod Bowen scored from the spot.
It was a moment that sparked the Hammers’ game into life through the brilliant Lucas Paqueta and Gianluca Scamacca as they combined to give their side the lead after the break.
Yet Silva was left pulling his hair out for a second time as VAR’s lengthy delay on a potential handball by Scamacca shows the video officials still don’t know what “clear and obvious” is.
Not that David Moyes will care, especially after Michail Antonio wrapped things up off the bench to take advantage of some comical Cottagers defending.
    READ MORE ON FOOTBALL
Two league wins on the bounce for the first time since January is just what the doctor ordered for a Hammers team on the up after a rocky start.
And for the second time in a week, Moyes made nine changes to his starting line-up, having done the same for their Europa Conference League clash away at Anderlecht.
Scamacca, Paqueta and Declan Rice came off the bench in Brussels to inspire their side to a late winner – and all three regained their places back on home soil.
Silva made four alterations from the 4-1 humbling at the hands of Newcastle last weekend.
    Most read in Football
Nathaniel Chalobah served his suspension following his early red card against the Toon, while Aleksandar Mitrovic missed out with a foot injury. Carlos Vinicius instead led the line.
And while Palhinha and Antonee Robinson returned to the side, Bobby De Cordova-Reid made the drastic switch from left winger to right-back.
But the Cottagers did not start like a side who had just shipped four goals at home, and were in front after just five minutes thanks to a sumptuous strike of their own.
West Ham themselves began with a confidence that has been missing so far this season, and were caught with too many bodies forward as Declan Rice lost control of a ball in midfield.
Bowen’s slip allowed Neeskens Kebano to scamper away and feed Pereira down the left with only Kurt Zouma to beat but a seemingly-impossible angle.
The Brazilian international made a goal possible with the sweetest of hits that skimmed the face of Lukasz Fabianski and into the far top corner.

Soon after, Dan James stepped in off his right wing and curled a beauty on to Fabianski’s crossbar when it looked to be dipping just below it.
But coming off the back of two wins in all competitions in five days, Moyes’ men look to be made of sterner stuff and mounted a response through the brilliant Paqueta.
The Samba playmaker announced his £36.4m arrival from Lyon in the summer by posing atop the London Stadium – and today it appeared the pitch belonged to his magic feet.

Paqueta started to impose himself after 15 minutes, serving up two delicious balls into Scamacca only for the Italian to have one header saved by Bernd Leno and drag another shot wide.
The misses aside, Moyes would have been delighted by the link-up between his two new signings – and both were involved in the build-up before they were awarded a penalty.
Paqueta wriggled out of a tight spot and found Pablo Fornals out wide. Aaron Cresswell’s cross then picked out an unmarked Scamacca whose header again was met by Leno.
A corner was won as Bowen’s rebound attempt was blocked, only for Pereira to begin a wrestling match with Dawson three times in the space of 20 seconds.
It was the easiest decision of the afternoon for Kavanagh, booking Pereira – not that it stopped him complaining for the next ten minutes.
Bowen sent Leno the wrong way to make it two goals in his last two Prem games having grabbed his first of the season last Saturday against Wolves.

For a team that has struggled to hit the net since the back end of last year, their forward options are now in red-hot form – as Scamacca proved in the 62nd minute.
Yet again, Paqueta was involved to loop a ball that caught out Fulham’s entire backline, allowing Scamacca to control and then lob Leno.
His celebrations were muted, perhaps knowing he may have been offside and also brushed the ball with the knuckles on his right hand before finishing.
VAR intervened, quickly deducing he was onside before spending an agonising near-three minutes debating whether the ball had been handled, preferring not to send Kavanagh to the monitor.

With the naked eye, it was impossible to say with clarity, but Silva was booked for his animated touchline reaction to the goal finally being given.
Antonio bundled a third home in injury time thanks to some laughable attempts to stop him, not that Silva will have a smile on his face in the coming days.

MAX VERSTAPPEN was named Champion of the World with victory in the Japanese Grand Prix.Max Verstappen surrendered the opportunity to clinch a second successive championship win in Singapore last weekend.
The Red Bull driver came out on top in the Suzuka Circuit amid poor weather conditions .
Lando Norris took to Twitter to criticise the decision to resume as Verstappen came out on top.
Charles Leclerc was handed a penalty in the final lap, seeing Sergio Perez pushed up to second in an entertaining affair.

    Leclerc slams truck decision
Charles Leclerc, the godson of tragic Jules Bianchi, added to the criticism of race chiefs for allowing a recovery truck on.
The Ferrari driver said: “We shouldn’t see these things. Something happened in 2014 and we should learn from it.
“I hope we learn from it and that we don’t see these things again.”
Race chiefs blasted for letting truck on
Drivers and team bosses slated Japanese GP officials for putting a recovery truck on a wet track while racing continued.
They blasted the “unacceptable” decision – eight years after French driver Jules Bianchi died when he hit a similar vehicle in the same GP.
Alpha Tauri star, who passed the truck today, said: “I’m just extremely grateful that I am here.”
“How can there be a crane, not even in the gravel, on the race track, while we are still on the track? I don’t understand.
“We lost Jules already. We all lost an amazing guy, eight years ago, at the same track, in the same conditions with the crane.
“It was disrespectful to Jules, it’s disrespectful to his family and to all of us.
“We are risking all lives out there. We are doing the best job in the world, but what we are asking is to at least keep us safe.”
‘Are you sure I’ve won it?’
Even Max Verstappen was unsure he’d clinched his second successive title as F1 confusion reigned again following his Japanese GP win today.
The sport’s chiefs had to step in to confirm full points would be awarded – despite it running little more than half distance.
Had it been only three-quarter points – as all teams expected – Verstappen would have still need a point at the USA GP on October 23 to seal his second crown.
He was heard asking: “Are you sure?” when told he was champ.
And after being reassured of his title he said: “It’s crazy, very mixed emotions.
“I’m so thankful to everyone who’s been contributing to the success, the whole team has been working flat out.
Beside that, the work we did with Honda every year, constantly improving, gets very emotional especially here. I’m very proud we could do it here.
“The first is more emotional but the second is more beautiful. We’re leading the constructors so we want to focus on that, to secure that.”
    F1 congratulates our NEW champion
    Formula 1 tweeted:
    “MAX VERSTAPPEN.
    “TWO-TIME WORLD CHAMPION!!!”

    Back-to-back title wins for Verstappen
Max Verstappen has clinched his SECOND Formula One world championship title with four races to go.
The Dutchman started in P1 in Japan and dominated the rain soaked race, crossing the line with a lead greater than 20 seconds.
Title rival Charles Leclerc finished second, which would’ve seen the title race go into Austin in two weeks time.
But Leclerc was handed a five-second penalty for gaining an advantage on Sergio Perez on the final lap, seeing the pair swap places.
It meant Verstappen was crowned world champion in bizarre circumstances for a second year running after his controversial last lap win over Lewis Hamilton last year.
He was told he was world champ, to which he replied: “What can I say? incredible! Very special to do it here. In front of the Honda people and the Japanese fans.”

    Verstappen told he was champ
The moment Verstappen found out he was crowned champion was underwhelming.
The 2021 champ, who pipped Lewis Hamilton in controversial scenes last year, was initially told he had secured the successful title defence during the middle of his race win interview in the paddock, leaving him stunned and clearly surprised when the graphic appeared behind him.
Verstappen took in the congratulations and finished off the very brief interview before running over to jump in celebration with his girlfriend Kelly Piquet and the Red Bull crew members.
However, even then the dominant driver was still not 100 per cent sure he was actually the world champion as fans at home had no idea whether it was done or not.

So it was not until the Dutchman was in the post-race drivers’ room with Leclerc and Perez that it was absolutely confirmed for him.
Verstappen can be seen asking: “I am? Are you sure?” before getting the green light.
A chaotic crowning moment at the Japanese Grand Prix
Max Verstappen had no idea he was crowned world champion – after a chaotic Japanese Grand Prix.
And his confusion was clear to see in the bizarre moment he discovered the news.
The Red Bull driver breezed to an easy victory at Suzuka after a red flag initially stopped the race.
He crossed the line well clear of title rivals Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez.
But Ferrari driver Leclerc was penalised with a five-second penalty for gaining an advantage by going off the track on the final lap of the race.
And that bumped Leclerc down to third.
But uncertainty over the points for the race, which only had 28 laps completed, meant it took a few minutes to work out for sure.
In the end, full points were awarded because the race was resumed and ensured Verstappen finished the day 113 points clear of Perez with 112 points left up for grabs this season.

    Verstappen on winning the title
“It’s crazy, very mixed emotions. Winning the championship, what a year we’ve had. It’s incredible!
“I’m so thankful to everyone who’s been contributing to the success, the whole team has been working flat out. Beside that, the work we did with Honda every year, constantly improving, gets very emotional especially here. I’m very proud we could do it here.

    Leclerc drops to P3
A penalty for Leclerc sees Perez pushed up to second, which means…
    Race control note Leclerc incident
Leclerc left the track in the final lap when holding off Perez, and the incident has been noted by race control.
    Leclerc holds off Perez!
Wow, what drama between these two!
It wasn’t tidy in the final few corners and he may actually be docked a position for that.

    Final lap of the race!
3 mins to go – Alonso flying
Just four seconds behind Russell now, with those new tyres working a treat.
7 mins to go – Perez catching Leclerc
It’s worrying for the Ferrari in 2nd, with Perez now firmly on his tail and pushing for a Red Bull 1-2.
8 mins to go – Alonso pits
Alonso pits and exits in 10th, what can he do in the final few minutes here?
10 mins to go – Will anyone else pit?
Zhou has set the fastest lap of the race after pitting, will that convince anyone higher up to take the risk?
13 mins to go – Hamilton can’t overtake Ocon
The pair almost touch down the pit straight, but Ocon remains ahead of the seven-time champion.
15 mins to go – Alonso pushing Vettel
Two legends of the sport fighting for 6th at the moment, with the German winning the battle up to now.
17 mins to go – Ocon still holding of Hamilton
A fascinating battle for 4th this, with Ocon still ahead at the moment.
20 mins to go – Leclerc considering stop
Falling way behind Verstappen, Leclerc is considering another pit stop.
22 mins to go – Hamilton pressuring Ocon
The Mercedes is looking for a way to get round Ocon, although the straight line speed advantage is helping the Alpine.

    “It really has.”
    More from Roman
Roman Fury has been quizzed on his southpaw style, which echoed shades of older brother Tyson.
Speaking on the comparisons, he told Sporty Stuff TV: “It must be inherited because I’ve had a load of people saying I box like him, I resemble him.
“So that’s only good things isn’t it. I felt good in there, I felt loose.
“And that was the key for me, that’s what everyone’s been saying, ‘control yourself, be loose and look experienced’ and I didn’t look like a novice at all did I?
“I looked like an experienced boxer so I’m very happy with it.”
Roman Fury reacts to his win
Speaking after the fight, Roman Fury tells Sporty Stuff TV: “I couldn’t have asked for a better debut.
“I’ve never experienced anything like this before in my life.
“So I’m just happy with how I dealt with it, I’m proud of myself, I’ve gained confidence and it’s on to the next one now!”
On his opponent: “He’s had tons of fights, thanks to Ryan [Hibbert] for taking the fight. I’ve learnt lots from him, he’s not just a pushover, he’s a very experienced guy.
“And yeah I’m very happy with it.”
    Roman’s return
Roman Fury will be back in action in just FIVE weeks, according to his manager.
He is set to feature on the undercard of Ricky Hatton vs Marco Antonio Barrera on November 12.
    Roman Fury wins on debut!
It’s a win for Roman Fury on his professional debut!
He triumphs by a score of 40-36 on the solitary scorecard, meaning he won all four of the rounds.
That’s about as comfortable as it gets!
The Fury family ringside are on their feet cheering.
    Result coming next!
    Here comes the result…
Ryan Hibbert is already applauding Roman Fury…
    Ding! Ding! Ding!
    And there’s the final bell!
Roman Fury goes for broke at the end, trying to land a last second KO to no success.
The pair touch gloves at the end of the fight.
Tyson Fury is on his feet applauding his little brother, as is Tommy, as Roman holds his hand up to the crown.
    Final minute of the fight
We’re into the final minute of Roman Fury’s pro debut.
There haven’t been any fireworks, but he’s gone about his work effectively.
Fury lands with a left right combo to Ryan Hibbert’s body as the clock ticks down.
    Round Four underway
The fighters touch gloves as the bell sounds for the fourth and final round.
Will there be a late KO in this?
    End of Round Three
That’s the end of the third.
Just one round left to go now in Roman Fury’s professional debut.
Ryan Hibbert didn’t look to engage in that one, leaving Fury to do all the work.
    Tyson Fury ringside
Tyson and Tommy Fury are both ringside to watch his brother’s pro debut.
And dad of the trio, John, is also there.

    Round Three underway
Into the third now, and Roman Fury looks very relaxed here.
The cruiserweight is loose in his movement, and is still on the front foot.

And the brother of Tyson is leading this bout so far.

    End of Round Two
There’s the end of the second, signalling the halfway point in the fight.
Again, Roman Fury has probably shaded that one.
    Round Two – Hibbert improving
Ryan Hibbert is just starting to settle into this one a bit more.
Although he gets himself so excited he falls over after an almighty swing with his right hand.
Round Two – Here we go
    Right, we’re back underway.
Roman Fury starts the second how he ended the first, and is the bigger aggressor of the two fighters.
He throws a jab before looking to follow it up with a booming left hand, but can’t connect.
    What a ring walk
Tyson, Tommy and John all made the ring walk with Roman for his debut.
We now move into round two.

    End of Round One
Fury connects with a decent overhand left as he backs Hibbert onto the ropes again.
    And there goes the bell.
End of round one, which will probably go the way of Fury.
The pair touch gloves as they make their way back to their corners.
Round One – Fury on front foot
It’s Roman Fury who is the more aggressive of the two fighters early on.
He’s got Ryan Hibbert backed up on the ropes.
There’s not much landing in the way of punches, but it’s a confident start for his pro debut.
    Ding! Ding! Ding!
We’re underway in this cruiserweight bout.
Roman Fury, brother of Tyson, is making his professional debut.
Four three minute rounds are scheduled.
    Fury Sr cheering on brother
Tyson Fury gives a big cheer ringside as Roman is introduced.
    Here we go!

    That’s all from the Amex
That brings an end to our coverage from the south coast where Brighton’s unbeaten home run is over, but the Spurs go marching on.
Spurs’ success – hard fought and emotional – was a fitting end to an awful week in which they lost their fitness coach Gian Piero Ventrone.
Antonio Conte and his players paid tribute both before and after the game, while Harry Kane dedicated his match winner to the late Italian. He was a man who will be sorely missed in North London.
There’s more Premier League action tomorrow including a corker of a contest between Arsenal and Liverpool at the Emirates. Be sure to join us!
De Zerbi: Football is not fair
Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi was adamant that his team deserved something from tonight’s match at the Amex Stadium.
The Italian watched his new team slip to a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham, but said he was pleased with the performance and the character shown by his players.
We played a fantastic game and the result is not fair, 100 percent. Football is not right sometimes, and today the result is not good for us. Roberto De ZerbiSky Sports

    Kane on the mark again
Another three points for Tottenham, another goal for Harry Kane.
The England captain now has eight goals for the season, and 12 in his last 12 Premier League games either side of the summer.
Kane has netted in each of his last four league matches. It’s his joint-longest ever scoring streak in the competition, and the seventh time he has done so.
The Spurs striker would be a shoo-in for the Golden Boot – if Erling Haaland didn’t exist.

    Antonio’s completes the Italian job
Following victory on the south coast, Antonio Conte is now unbeaten in all seven of his Premier League matches against fellow Italian managers (W6 D1).
The Tottenham boss has also seen his sides keep clean sheets in four of their last five such games.
    Tottenham take hold of third
A tragic week and a difficult evening, yet Spurs have come through both with three more points to show for their season.
The win keeps a gap to Chelsea and Newcastle, who both won earlier today, and puts the pressure back on rivals Arsenal ahead of their home game with Liverpool tomorrow.
Brighton are sixth after Saturday’s results.

    Sess-sational: Ryan digs deep
Man of the Match Ryan Sessegnon put a fine shift in, both in attack and then defence, as Tottenham held out for a vital 1-0 win at Brighton.
And afterwards the former Fulham ace said his team are prepared this season for the hard graft that comes when under intense pressure.
It’s a difficult place to come and they’ve been in good form all season. We had to dig deep at times and defend very well, but that’s how we want to play sometimes: you can’t always have the ball. Ryan SessegnonSky Sports

    Match stats from the Amex
Brighton registered more attempts than their opponents, but only mustered an xG total of 0.66, compared to Spurs’ 0.77.

Full time – Brighton 0-1 Spurs
Tottenham take the points on an emotional night.
No sooner had Tony Harrington called time at the Amex, and Antonio Conte was out on to the pitch to celebrate a hard-earned victory.
The Italian pumps his fists, hugs his players and makes for the away end while remembering his friend and colleague, Gian Piero Ventrone.
The travelling Spurs fans return the act, singing the name of their former fitness coach, while captain Hugo Lloris holds aloft a shirt bearing his name.
They did him proud this evening.

    Brighton 0-1 Spurs
90+4. Lloris rushes off his line to smother a dinked lob into the danger area by Trossard.
It’s perhaps indicative of Brighton’s overplaying approach this evening.
    The game is up now.
    Brighton 0-1 Spurs
90+2. Inside the first two minutes of the five signalled by the fourth official.
Ryan Sessegnon has been named the Sky Sports Man of the Match, and Brighton are quickly running out of options, ideas and hope.
Brighton 0-1 Spurs – Spurs substitution
    90. Harry Kane’s last act of the match is to throw himself in front of Alexis Mac Allister to win a free-kick on the edge of his own penalty area.
The striker uses all of his experience in taking his time to recover, taking the sting out of the game in the process.
Eventually, Antonio Conte decides to replace the forward with Oliver Skipp.

Brighton 0-1 Spurs – Brighton substitutions
    88. Two former Chelsea youngsters are introduced.
Can the pace of Tariq Lamptey and the guile of Billy Gilmour open up this packed Tottenham rearguard?
Joel Veltman and Moises Caicedo make way.
    Brighton 0-1 Spurs
    86. The home side are now camped inside the Tottenham half, but they just cannot break down the visitors.
Lallana tries to open them up with some fancy footwork, only for Doherty to stand tall when he was needed most.
    Brighton 0-1 Spurs
    84. Brighton are committing more men forward, but is it too little, too late?
Brighton 0-1 Spurs – Brighton substitution
    82. Another Seagulls switch.
Adam Lallana is on Pascal Gross.
    Brighton 0-1 Spurs
    81. Almost the embarrassing disaster that playing out from the back can bring.
Brighton’s high risk football nearly leaves them red-faced when Mac Allister’s square pass across goal ricochets up off Kane and loops towards goal.
Thankfully for the Seagulls, it drops wide.
    Brighton 0-1 Spurs
    80. On the touchline, new Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi is cutting a frustrated figure.
The Italian looked particularly unhappy after Mac Allister played an unnecessary backpass to goalkeeper Sanchez.
Brighton 0-1 Spurs – Spurs substitution
    79. A second Tottenham change brings Ivan Perisic into the action.
The veteran Croatian replaces Son Heung-min.
    Brighton 0-1 Spurs
    77. It’s another half-chance for Welbeck, it’s another snapshot hurriedly pulled away from the target.
The opportunity arose after a loose pass from Richarlison, who again shows he is capable of causing havoc in either box.
    Brighton 0-1 Spurs
    75. Inside the final 15 minutes on the south coast, and the points look destined for North London.
The home side have barely worked Hugo Lloris in this second half.
    Brighton 0-1 Spurs
    74. Son finds the back of the net with an exquisite curler but, no sooner had he begun to celebrate, the flag went up for offside.
It’s the right call from the assistant referee, who correctly noted that Veltman had stepped up in time to leave Son ahead of the last defender when Dier played his long, raking ball forward.

    Brighton 0-1 Spurs
    71. ‘Ooooooh,’ bellow the Tottenham travelling fans in unison.
In truth, Harry Kane’s glancing header wasn’t that close, but the striker once again shows his ability to beat his marker to a Son Heung-min delivery.
Brighton 0-1 Spurs – Spurs substitution
    70. Yves Bissouma’s return to Brighton has come to an end.
The midfielder goes off after a mediocre 70 minutes, and is replaced by Richarlison.
    Brighton 0-1 Spurs
    69. Another wonderful run from the substitute.
Mitoma surges forwards, goes past one and then a second, only to overrun the ball at the last.
The 25-year-old looks an exciting talent.
    Brighton 0-1 Spurs
    68. Almost an immediate impact from Mitoma.
The left-back steps up the pitch, moves into the box and cuts on to his right foot.
A shot follows, but not before Romero gets across to block.
