    That’s all from us
Thanks for joining our coverage of Man City vs Chelsea.
Man City ran out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Riyad Mahrez and Julian Alvarez.
Jack Grealish and Stefan Ortega both put in wonderful displays to help secure passage into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
However, on another night Chelsea could have easily scored three, with Lewis Hall and Christian Pulisic having the best chances of the night.
There will be questions around Kalidou Koulibaly’s place in the team going forward as he put in a very below-par display.
Nevertheless, City will want to reclaim their title in this competition, and they have taken the first steps to ensure that.
From everyone at SunSport, have a good night!
    Pep on Haaland vs Alvarez
Guardiola has declared Haaland and Alvarez can play together, but has named Haaland as “perhaps the best striker in the world.”
Alvarez scored once again to help City past Chelsea and is knocking on the door of the City first xi.
However, Haaland’s incredible form would put any other striker on the bench.
    Pulisic called up by America.
The US Men’s National Team announced there World Cup squad, and it includes Chelsea star Pulisic.
It’s some welcome good news for him after tonight’s result.
Though Pulisic himself played fairly well.
    London falling
After tonight’s results and Brentford being knocked out yesterday, League One side Charlton are the only team left in the competition from London.
There might be a few shouts from The Valley about who the real “pride of London” are.
    Results elsewhere
Well to say the London clubs have had a nightmare this round would be an understatement.
Here are the full-time readings from elsewhere tonight.
    Arsenal 1-3 Brighton
Newcastle 0-0 Crystal Palace (Newcastle win 3-2 on pens)
    Nottingham Forest 2-0 Tottenham
Southampton 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday (Southampton win 6-5 on pens)
West Ham 2-2 Blackburn (Blackburn win 9-10 on pens)
    Wolves 1-0 Leeds
Liverpool 0-0 Derby (Liverpool win 3-2 on pens)

    Full-time thoughts
It was simply not Chelsea’s day.
Chelsea created more than enough big chances to win this game, but the lack of a killer instinct is something they are really missing up front.
It was a theme of Potter’s time at Brighton, and it seems to be coming over into his time now.
There were strong performances from Pulisic, Cucurella, Mendy and Hall, but others really didn’t turn up.
Meanwhile, City saw their early second-half blitz pay dividends with goals from Mahrez and Alvarez.
The performance from Grealish was simply superb however, he dominated the midfield and was a key component of everything City did that was positive this evening.
When Guardiola has said they didn’t sign Grealish for his goals or assists – this is exactly the type of performance that showcases it.
However, it wasn’t the one for trying as Mendy denied him with a number of good saves.
Deputy City keeper Ortega should also be mentioned for high praise. He just simply refused to be beaten.
    Full-time: Man City 2-0 Chelsea
It’s all over as last season’s finalists are beaten.
    Man City 2-0 Chelsea
    90. Even when they put it in the net they cannot score.
A laughable sequence sees the ball go from almost being turned in by a City player to Chelsea somehow managing to bundle the ball in through a crowd of bodies, only for the offside flag to go up.
    Man City 2-0 Chelsea
    89. Ooooh some handbags between Grealish and Azpilicueta there.
The Chelsea man left a little something on Grealish that was far from appreciated.
The pair went chest to chest and the ref brandished a card a piece.
    Man City 2-0 Chelsea
    88. Same old story for Chelsea.
A corner is whipped in that finds its way to Gallagher.
He scuffs his effort but somehow directed the ball to Mount, who then turned and whipped the ball towards goal.
Only to see the ball go just wide of the post again.
    Man City 2-0 Chelsea
    86. Cucurella just did so well to win it back only for Havertz to kill the move – inside the City area – with a woeful pass into no one.
    Man City 2-0 Chelsea
    85. Well that sums up the evening for Chelsea.
They’ve looked bright but have lacked a killer instinct.
And once again that was displayed as a ball was swung into the far post where two Chelsea players tried to get the ball but either could not make supplementary contact or direct it towards goal.
    Man City 2-0 Chelsea
    80. Ake comes on for Laporte as City make their third change of the night.
    Man City 2-0 Chelsea
    78. Havertz drags a shot well wide of the post after a sharp turn.
He has haunted City in the past, most notably with his goal in the Champions League final.
But he won’t be doing anything like that tonight if he keeps that up.
    Man City 2-0 Chelsea
    75. Chelsea make their final sub.
Hall makes way for Havertz, but it has to be said that Hall enjoyed an impressive game at The Etihad tonight.
The first half particularly showed off a bright light for Chelsea.
He has led his team in a number of metrics, including duels won and shots taken.
He did fade second half so his substitution does make some sense.
    Man City 2-0 Chelsea
    72. Ortega again prevents a goal, but the flag goes up anyway.
Cucurella bypasses the City press with a good pass infield to find Mount.
He then spreads the play and finds Loftus-Cheek down the right who then manages to find a Pulisic in the area.
He then manages to crack a shot off but Ortega keeps the ball out of the net once again.
However, the flag goes up so it wouldn’t have counted anyway.
    Man City 2-0 Chelsea
    69. Wow, FOUR changes for Chelsea just now.
Chalobah makes way for club captain Azpilicueta while Gallagher replaces Zakaria in midfield.
Ziyech comes off for Raheem Sterling too, while Broja also comes off for Mount.
A disappointing evening for Broja it has to be said. He was largely anonymous throughout the performance.
    Man City 2-0 Chelsea
    67. Cucurella with another big block.
City once again explode into a lighting quick tempo as Grealish bursts through the lines and into the penalty area.
He beats one, two and three players before Cucurella is able to match him and block his shot.
    Man City 2-0 Chelsea
    66. Chelsea are now preparing a pair of changes as City work the ball between themselves in front of the Chelsea block.
    Man City 2-0 Chelsea
    63. WHAT A SAVE FROM ORTEGA
Ortega produces a stunning save to deny Hall once again.
That entire move came from a wonderful Berba-spin from Ziyech right at the byline.
The Moroccan then found Hall in the middle who fired a shot at goal, but Ortega was just about able to keep it out with a superb reflex save.
    Man City 2-0 Chelsea
    60. Another save from Mendy.
Palmer drives forward unopposed by Chelsea’s defence and drives a low shot towards the goal.
Mendy is able to save it, but it now seems he is working overtime for them.
Alvarez is sharpest on the rebound
    58. Chelsea have been caught napping again there.
Palmer takes a quick free-kick that sets Grealish away.
He then finds Mahrez who fires a curling shot that Mendy is able to push away at full stretch.
But Alvarez is lurking at the far post to poach home the second and double the lead.
    Man City 2-0 Chelsea
    GOALLLLL
    Another goal at The Etihad

    FULL-TIME: Arsenal 1-3 Brighton
That’s it! Goals from Danny Welbeck, Kaoru Mitoma and Tariq Lamptey have handed Brighton a brilliant win over Arsenal at the Emirates.
Eddie Nketiah’s opener looked to have set the hosts on their way to victory, but now they have been dumped out of the Carabao Cup in the third round for the first time since 2015.
    Arsenal 1-3 Brighton
90+3 mins: A high cross comes into Nketiah but he tamely heads down for Steele to claim.
    Seconds remaining at the Emirates.
    Arsenal 1-3 Brighton
90 mins: A woeful Zinchenko cross is straight into the arms of Steele.
That will just about do it for Brighton as four minutes of stoppage time are added on.
    Arsenal 1-3 Brighton
88 mins: The obvious “Is there a fire drill” rings out from the Brighton end as a hush descends over the Emirates.
This has been a thoroughly underwhelming night for the Gunners.
    Arsenal 1-3 Brighton
86 mins: A tame header is straight into the arms of Steele.
The Arsenal fans are flooding out now. The hope seems to have gone from the home contingent.
    Arsenal 1-3 Brighton
84 mins: Great chance for Arsenal!
They work the ball well and find Martinelli completely unmarked at the back post, but his low effort is straight at the feet of Steele who makes the stop.
    Arsenal 1-3 Brighton
82 mins: Brighton continue to use possession as their best form of defence. It is an effective weapon.
Lamptey is caught late by Zinchenko and that’s another little break in play for the visitors.
Some Arsenal fans see that as their cue to leave.
    Arsenal 1-3 Brighton
80 mins: Undav replaces Sarmiento as De Zerbi runs down the clock a little more.
Jesus is found inside the Brighton penalty area and he lays it off to Nketiah, but Webster – on for Dunk – ushers him out of play.
Another sub for Arsenal now. Xhaka on for Lokonga.
    Arsenal 1-3 Brighton
78 mins: A clipped ball over the top finds Lokonga but Gilmour gets back to make a brilliant last-ditch challenge just as the Arsenal midfielder sets his body to have a shot.
Brighton have defended so impressively tonight. They’ve dominated for large periods, but when Arsenal have come forward they have been thwarted by a brilliantly organised team.
    Arsenal 1-3 Brighton
76 mins: Enciso has made way for Pervis Estupinan. Lamptey has pushed into an attacking role on the right side now as Estupinan takes up the left-back role.
Nketiah is found in some space down the left channel but his tame cross is safely into the arms of Steele.
    Arsenal 1-3 Brighton
76 mins: There’s a scramble in the Brighton box as the ball gets stuck under a host of blue and white shirts, but Lamptey eventually clears.
Brighton then go up the other end and earn themselves a corner, but Welbeck lashes over on the half-volley.
Now Enciso has gone down injured. The Arsenal fans aren’t happy but this is playing even more into Brighton’s hands.
    Arsenal 1-3 Brighton
73 mins: More changes for Arsenal. Jesus and Zinchenko are on for Tierney and Vieira.
Can they do anything to salvage this?
GOAL! Arsenal 1-3 Brighton (Lamptey, 72)
72 mins: That could be the match for Brighton!
The nippy wingback uses his pace to storm beyond the Arsenal defence and cooly slot into the far corner.
It’s bedlam in the away end now!
    Arsenal 1-2 Brighton
71 mins: Martinelli fouls Veltman on the halfway line. More groans from the Arsenal fans.
“Top of the league, you’re having a laugh” rings out from the away end. The Brighton fans are loving this right now.
    Arsenal 1-2 Brighton
69 mins: Mikel Arteta is in constant conversation with his backroom staff. They must be wondering what they have to do to get the ball off Brighton right now.
Roberto De Zerbi is very animated in the other technical area. And his side seem to be listening at the moment.
    Arsenal 1-2 Brighton
67 mins: The Arsenal supporters are doing their best to get behind their team, but right now it’s Brighton who look more like getting a third.
The Seagulls are keeping the ball incredibly well. This is frustrating for the hosts.
    Arsenal 1-2 Brighton
65 mins: Arsenal give the ball away again and Brighton have a throw-in midway inside the Gunners’ half.
Veltman takes about as long as you can possibly take with a throw before eventually releasing it. I imagine they’ll be a lot of that between now and the final whistle.
    Arsenal 1-2 Brighton
63 mins: Here come the Arsenal changes.
Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel on for Saliba and Marquinhos.
    Arsenal 1-2 Brighton
61 mins: When will Arteta look to his bench? De Zerbi brought Mitoma and Gross on at half-time for March and Caicedo. And now it has paid off.
Arsenal have a huge amount of firepower waiting on the bench. Surely it’s only a matter of time before the Spaniard turns to them?
GOAL! Arsenal 1-2 Brighton (Mitoma, 58)
59 mins: There is a goal but it’s not for Arsenal!
Out of nowhere, Brighton are ahead and it’s half-time substitute Mitoma that has hit the back of the net.
Sarmiento is played in behind the Arsenal defence. He assesses his options and feeds the onrushing Mitoma who bends a delightful effort into the top corner.
Very similar finish to Nketiah’s in the first half.
Brighton have come from behind to lead at the Emirates.
    Arsenal 1-1 Brighton
58 mins: Brighton keeper Steele has had enough. He thumps the ball aimlessly upfield with no blue and white shirt in the same postcode as his pass.
The Arsenal fans can sense this might be the moment they go and win the tie.
    Arsenal 1-1 Brighton
56 mins: Arsenal come again and Nelson tries to slide a pass in for Nketiah but Dunk ushers it out of play.
Brighton need to regroup or you have to think Arsenal will be ahead very shortly.
    Arsenal 1-1 Brighton
54 mins: Arsenal are growing in confidence now and Brighton are beginning to drop deeper and deeper.
Nelson cuts inside and into the area but Brighton have enough bodies back to deal with the danger as the Arsenal forward is forced to go backwards.
The Emirates is alive now, though. Maybe they have heard Tottenham are losing 2-0 to Nottingham Forest?
    Arsenal 1-1 Brighton
    52 mins: Close for Arsenal!
Marquinhos produces his first decent bit of quality this evening as he crosses for Vieira, but Steele denies him with a good save.
Nketiah then fires wide from close range.
    Arsenal 1-1 Brighton
49 mins: SO CLOSE FOR ARSENAL!
Nketiah drifts in from the left and tries a low strike which creeps beyond Steele but cannons off the inside of the post and dribbles out.
So unfortunate. Nketiah thought he had his second of the night.

World Cup 2022 LIVE: James targets England squad call-up as Brazil announce 26 with Arsenal’s Gabriel SNUBBED – latest

ENGLAND players are awaiting their World Cup call-up fates with Gareth Southgate days away from naming his squad.Gabriel Magalhaes did not make the cut for Brazil, with the likes of Bremer, Thiago Silva and Dani Alves in the squad.
Gabriel’s Arsenal teammate Gabriel Martinelli, however, did make the cut and will feature for the Brazilians in Qatar.
Elsewhere, Chelsea’s Reece James is targeting a call-up for the Three Lions squad despite currently being out of action with an injury.
How to get free bets on football – the 17 best bookies to claim rewards and bonuses
Stay tuned with all the latest ahead of the tournament…
    Bale golf World Cup ban
Gareth Bale’s golf days are out of bounds at the World Cup.
Wales boss Robert Page swung by Doha Golf Club during a Qatar recce in June to tee up a round for his squad.
But Page says 18 holes in their downtime is off limits due to the demands the finals will bring for golf nut Bale and his team-mates.
Page said: “We had a round of golf planned. I went to the Doha club, it’s run by a British lad. He said, ‘I’ll book you a time’.
“But it gets dark at four o’clock. We looked at it but there are other functions we might have to do, so we will probably not get the chance to do it.”
When asked if Page had told captain Bale, he laughed: “Yeah. There’s no golf. We’re out there to do a job.
“In the past I may get Gareth, Kieffer Moore or Aaron Ramsey come up to me and say, ‘What’s the plan for tomorrow afternoon? Are there meetings?’
“I’d say, ‘No, there’s no meetings, so if you want nine holes then go and play’.
“But that is when you have a week building up to a double-header. Out there, we won’t have enough time. Every four days there is a game. It’s relentless.”
EXCLUSIVE: James’ World Cup dream OVER
Reece James has been given the devastating news by England boss Gareth Southgate that his World Cup dream is over.
Right-back James, 22, was desperate to make Southgate’s squad for Qatar despite last month’s knee injury.
A positive scan yesterday increased the defender’s belief he could be back for the knockout stages — and James ran on grass at Chelsea’s Cobham base for the first time since his operation.
But Southgate rang the Blues ace to deliver the bad news in person, telling him he could not afford to take a risk on his fitness.
A source said: “Reece was confident he would be OK by the start of December.
“But Gareth decided he could not take the gamble.
“It is devastating news for Reece because he believed he would be OK.”
White backed for World Cup role
England legend Alan Shearer has name dropped Arsenal’s Ben White as a right-back option for the Three Lions.
Gareth Southgate has a selection headache in the full-back department.
Reece James and Kyle Walker are racing back to be fit.
On the left-hand side Ben Chilwell has been ruled out, and Trent Alexander-Arnold isn’t trusted.
That leaves the door open for White, who is enjoying a good campaign with Arsenal.
Shearer told The Athletic: “It’s not just about questionable fitness — it’s about form, too.
“With Walker, it’s fitness. With Harry Maguire, it’s form and a lack of game time — one start in the league for Manchester United since August.
“It’s form for Eric Dier, Luke Shaw, and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
“Kieran Trippier must be one of the first defenders on the team sheet at the moment, while Ben White is full of belief at Arsenal, but there are some big calls to be made here.”
Firmino on Brazil World Cup squad
Liverpool ace Roberto Firmino has opened up on his disappointment with missing out on Brazil’s World Cup squad.
He said: “Passing by to say thank you for all the lovely messages.
“The World Cup is a dream for every player and with me it wouldn’t be any different.
“Yesterday things didn’t go the way I imagined or dreamed for my life but I can look back and have a grateful heart to God that he has already allowed me to live that dream as well as so many others. You, Lord, will keep in perfect peace him whose purpose is firm, because he trusts in you.
“(Isaiah 26:3) I take this opportunity here to pay my respect and congratulate all the summoned. It was, is, and will always be an honour to defend my country especially with the gift the Lord gave me. I stay here confident that God has the best for me and hoping that hexa comes.
“For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11) #Jesusisenough.”
Mane a World Cup injury doubt
Sadio Mane is a doubt for the World Cup after limping off injured playing for Bayern Munich.
Just 13 days out from Senegal’s first match in Qatar, the striker limped off around 20 minutes into his side’s match with Werder Bremen.
The former Liverpool player sat down on the turf with an apparent problem during the first half.
He tried to continue after medical treatment but a decision was made for him to come off.
He was replaced with Leroy Sane.
As he left the pitch Mane appeared to be limping.

    Carragher names England squad
Ex-Liverpool and England defender Jamie Carragher has named who he would take to Qatar for the World Cup this month.
    Carragher’s 26-man squad:
Goalkeepers – Jordan Pickford, Aaron Ramsdale, Nick Pope.
Defenders – Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ben White, Kyle Walker, John Stones, Eric Dier, Harry Maguire, Conor Coady, Kieran Trippier, Luke Shaw.
Midfielders – Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham, Jordan Henderson, Mason Mount, James Maddison, Kalvin Phillips.
Forwards – Harry Kane, Tammy Abraham, Ivan Toney, Marcus Rashford, Raheem Sterling, Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka, Jack Grealish.
    Mexico missing main man
Jesus ‘Tecatito’ Corona will miss the World Cup due to an ankle injury, in a major blow to Mexico.
An official statement reads: “The Directorate of Men’s National Teams informs, after the pertinent communication between Gerardo Martino, Technical Director of the SNM and Jesús Manuel Corona, that the player will not be able to be integrated into the concentration of the Mexican National Team heading to the World Cup Qatar 2022.
“The above, due to the fact that his recovery process has not been completed, after the injury suffered in August of this year.
“The National Team will continue to monitor his evolution, hoping that Jesus will have a successful and soon return to the courts.”
    Johnson on Maguire’s England chances
Former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson has told Manchester United captain Harry Maguire that he should not be picked for England at the Qatar World Cup in a devastating blow.
The Three Lions’ first match of the tournament takes place on November 21 and Maguire is expected to be selected.
However, his form, as well as time on Erik ten Hag’s bench, should see him be snubbed at the World Cup, according to ex-England full-back Johnson.
He told BookiesBonuses.com: “As a neutral, I think if a player can’t get into his club team, then how can he be good enough for England? That’s what I’d be thinking.
“I know it’s United and they’ve got a good squad, but if Harry Maguire is classed as one of our best centre-halves and he can’t get into his club team, then I think we’ve got a problem.”
    Reece James injury update
Reece James has been told he could be fit in three weeks – leaving England boss Gareth Southgate with a massive selection dilemma.
Chelsea defender James is recovering from a knee injury and Southgate names a 26-man squad for the World Cup in just 48 hours.
James is refusing to give up on his dream of joining them in Qatar and has spoken to specialists who believe he could be ready to play by the end of the month.
England face Wales in their third and final Group B game on November 29 and are hopeful of progressing to the first knockout round and beyond.
Fullback James, 22, was in blistering form for Chelsea prior to getting hurt and was Southgate’s first-choice right-back for the tournament.
The England head coach must now decide whether to take a huge gamble and include James in the tour party heading to the desert.
Messi set for World Cup glory?
Argentina are set to win the Qatar World Cup, according to simmed matches on FIFA 23.
This method correctly predicted the winners in 2010, 2014 and 2018.
That would mean Lionel Messi would win the one trophy that has eluded him in his glittering career.
Argentina lost the 2014 World Cup final to Germany.

Gabriel shares heart-warming message from pal
Gabriel Magalhaes has shared a heart-warming message after missing out on selection for Brazil’s World Cup squad.
Following his World Cup heartbreak Gabriel was sent a touching message from a pal on Instagram.
The message, which the Arsenal star shared to his Instagram story, read: “I saw you grow up in football, brother.
“You are the pride of our neighbourhood.”
Gabriel has been in very strong form at club level, even poking home the winner during a dominant 1-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
However, he was snubbed by Brazil boss Tite – with the 61-year-old instead opting for a host of other options.
    Alexander-Arnold hasn’t been ‘taught’ properly
Trent Alexander-Arnold hasn’t been “taught” properly in the art of defending, according to ex-England and Premier League manager Sam Allardyce.
Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast on Alexander-Arnold heading to the World Cup with the Three Lions, Allardyce said: “If they’re all fit I have to go with how they’re playing now.
“Trent isn’t playing great. I love him, he’s an unbelievable footballer, but nobody has taught him how to defend, I’ve said that before.
“It’s not as important as it was in our day, in our day it was the most important thing, but now it’s secondary.”

Blatter blames Platini for Qatar World Cup
Former Fifa president Sepp Blatter has blamed Michel Platini for Qatar winning the bid to host the World Cup.
Qatar was awarded the tournament in 2010, hosting the next World Cup after Russia 2018.
But in recent years, Qatar has come under intense pressure in recent years for its treatment of foreign workers and restrictive social laws.
Blatter, 86, told Swiss newspaper Tages Anzeiger: “It is too small of a country. Football and the World Cup are too big for it.”
He continued: “It was a bad choice and I was responsible for that as president at the time.
“Thanks to the four votes of Platini and his [Uefa] team, the World Cup went to Qatar rather than the United States. It’s the truth.”
Cunha’s to Brazil World Cup omission
Atletico Madrid forward Matheus Cunha found out on Monday the devastating news that he had not been included in Brazil’s World Cup squad.
The 23-year-old was included in Tite’s most recent selection back in September – and even featured in the 3-0 win over Ghana.
But he still missed out on the final cut for the Qatar tournament later this month as a host of world class talent got in there ahead of him.
Brazil’s forward selection is made up of Antony, Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, Neymar, Pedro, Raphinha, Richarlison, Rodrygo, and Vinicius Jr.
And Cunha’s poor form for Atletico Madrid has ultimately cost him a place in the squad.
The clip taken shortly after finding out the bad news was accompanied by a message from Cunha on social media.

    Shearer’s England team
England and Premier League legend Alan Shearer has named his Three Lions team for the upcoming World Cup.
Shearer is also coy on Manchester United captain Harry Maguire starting.
Shearer in The Athletic: “It’s not just about questionable fitness – it’s about form, too… with Harry Maguire it’s form and a lack of game time – one start in the league for Manchester United since August.
“Maguire has barely been playing, while his performance in England’s 3-3 draw with Germany in the Nations League draw back in September hardly inspired confidence.
“Picking him in your starting XI would represent a huge gamble, but the problem is that Maguire is not an isolated example.
“There is a wider feeling of rustiness and insecurity. I suspect Gareth will go with three at the back. I wouldn’t; I’d go with four.”
Alan Shearer’s World Cup squad: Jordan Pickford, Nick Pope, Aaron Ramsdale; Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier, Luke Shaw, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ben White, Harry Maguire, Conor Coady, Eric Dier, John Stones; Bukayo Saka, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Mason Mount, James Maddison, Jude Bellingham, Declan Rice, Jordan Henderson, James Ward-Prowse; Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling, Callum Wilson, Tammy Abraham, Marcus Rashford.

Southgate heaps praise on USA poster boy
England manager Gareth Southgate has heaped praise on World Cup group rivals USA’s poster boy Christian Pulisic.
The 24-year-old is struggling to stamp down a regular spot in the Chelsea team, however, Southgate won’t take him lightly.
Southgate told ESPN: “Of course, he’s had two or three coaches to deal with so I think there’s been moments where he’s looked like he’s on his way, he’s flowing and he’s got a coach that believes in him and he’s had to deal then with setbacks with injury.
“He would probably feel he hasn’t got quite to where he wants to get to yet, I’d imagine, but he’s a very good player and is a player when you’re looking at the opposition teamsheet, he’s someone you’ve got to be aware of and got to be ready for.”
England play USA on November 25.
    Spurs title contenders under Conte
Antonio Conte is “definitely the man” to end Tottenham’s 14-year trophy drought and turn them into Premier League title contenders.
That is according to ex-Spurs ace Pascal Chimbonda who insists Conte can lead the club to its first piece of silverware since 2008, when the Frenchman was still playing and won the League Cup.
Speaking to Lord PIng, Chimbonda said: “Conte is definitely the man to help the club end its trophy drought, and I think he will want to win something within the next couple of seasons.
“He has had a massive impact on the squad since joining Tottenham and has improved the performances of so many players, who believe in what he is doing.
“I think he can absolutely win a trophy with the club. Spurs can challenge for the title in the next couple of seasons. Look at what Arsenal are doing this season, there is no reason why Spurs can’t challenge.”
Messi is the GOAT – Neville
Inter Miami boss Phil Neville has been drawn on which footballer he thinks is the greatest of all time – and named Lionel Messi.
Neville’s MLS club are reportedly ‘confident’ of sealing a deal for the Paris Saint-Germain superstar when his contract expires next year.
Neville was coy on that prospect, but said: “I think that’s hypothetical really.
“The best player in the world… I’m looking forward to seeing him play at the World Cup, alongside other great players.”
    Garner on joining Everton motivation
James Garner has opened up on why he left Manchester United to join Everton this summer.
The England Under-21 central midfielder, 21, told The Times: “In the moment it is very disappointing.
“That was the club that I trained with five times a week for years and years and years, that I made my debut with.
“But I didn’t want to stagnate. I didn’t want to stay there really and when they said I could leave also, I was in agreement with that. I just think it all made sense.
“I had two good seasons on loan and returned to United in the summer. I know in myself I wouldn’t have played if I had stayed.”
    Supercomputer predicts a Spursy outcome
They are currently fourth in the Prem and many feel they will be in the title hunt in the spring – but a supercomputer predicts Spurs will just miss out on the Champions League places this season.
According to MyBettingSites, Harry Kane-inspired Tottenham will end up fifth, just behind streaky Manchester United and just ahead of in-form Newcastle.
    Arsenal ‘don’t need January signings’
Arsenal do not need any new recruits to prop up their Prem title bid, according to ex-Gunner Lauren.
The retired right-back, 45, who played 159 games for the club, is among the many who have been impressed by Mikel Arteta’s league-leaders’ start to the season.
He told 888sport: “Arsenal have to keep believing in what they’re doing, because so far they’ve been brilliant.
“And they have to keep believing in their squad because rather than bringing in other players.
“I would prefer the club kept their confidence in the team – not thinking about who to sign in January.”
    Keane visits Solskjaer in Norway
Roy Keane popped over to see fellow Manchester United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in Norway.
Solskjaer was sacked as United manager 12 months ago and is enjoying football again as gaffer of his son’s Under-14s team back in his hometown of Kristiansund.
Sky Sports pundit Keane went to watch one of their recent training sessions, according to Nettavisen Sport.
Apparently the Irishman was even happy to pose for photos and sign autographs for fans.
    Pique behind the curtain
There was an update on the soap opera that is the end of Gerard Pique’s relationship with Shakira this week.
Apparently the beautiful Colombian pop star is set to move to Miami next year with their two sons as part of an agreement thrashed out between her and the ex-Manchester Unit star’s lawyers.
Pique, who has just retired from football with Barcelona, is said to have ceded to Shakira’s wishes to avoid an ugly court divorce battle.
    Solskjaer managing youths in Norway
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is back in his native Norway and managing a youth football team.
The Manchester United legend was sacked as their manager 12 months ago.
Apparently he has turned down offers of a return to management in the pro game and does not want to rush back, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Instead he is enjoying football again as gaffer of his son’s Under-14s team back home in Kristiansund.
    Chelsea get Leao chase boost
Chelsea’s hopes of signing AC Milan star Rafael Leao have had a shot in the arm after he reportedly demanded club-record wages to stay with the Italian giants.
The striker, whose deal runs out in 2024, is being tracked by most of Europe’s top clubs, including Graham Potter’s Blues.
Milan are said to want to tie him down on a new long-term contract but Sky Italia report he wants a wage increase from about £7.8million to £8.7m a year – which they have never paid a player before.
That could pave the way for an exit, which will put his many suitors on alert.

    First time for everything
Chelsea will be facing Borussia Dormtund for the first time ever in European competition.
It will also be The Blues first meeting with German opposition since facing Bayern Munich in 2019/20.
    Leipzig react
RB Leipzig have reacted to the news of their draw with Man City, and it’s good to see they have their sense of humour.
The German side posted a hilarious Simpsons meme that perfectly sums up the situation.

    An old foe for Spurs
Antonio Conte will return to Italy against a familiar opponent in AC Milan.
Ivan Perisic, Rodrigo Bentancur, Dejan Kulusevski and Christian Romero will also be familiar with this Milan team due to being imports from the Serie A in recent years.
However, as a club, Tottenham have only ever played the Italian giants twice.
Those games came back in 2011 when Peter Crouch scored the only goal over a two-legged last-16 clash between the teams.
Hopefully, there will be a few more goals when the teams square up again next year.
    Wary City
With drawing Leipzig, City will need to be wary of one man in particular; Christopher Nkunku.
The reason? He is one of just three players to have scored a hat-trick against Pep Guardiola’s Man City.
The other two names in that list are Lionel Messi and Jamie Vardy who managed the feat twice.
That being said, back in 2021 when Nkunku managed his trio City did smash double that past the Leipzig defence.
    2020 final repeat
The other headliner tie is between Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.
The pair have regularly tussled in out in the latter stages of the competition in recent years.
Bayern edged out PSG in the 2020 final thanks to a Kingsley Coman strike.
But in their most recent encounter PSG knocked Bayern out in the quarter-finals thanks to scoring more away goals – a rule no longer in place in the competition.
    Grudge match
With the draw made there are some tasty grudge matches set to take place.
Liverpool will no doubt be after revenge after Real Madrid beat them in the final last year.
Vinicius Jr’s goal and a Thibaut Courtois masterclass kept The Reds at bay that night.
But over two legs the tie may turn out differently.

The Red Devils haven’t beaten the Catalan giants since the 2008 Champions League semi-finals

    What’s next?

Among them is Arsenal, but Manchester United won’t be able to face them in the next round if they overcome Barcelona.

    Farewell!
Well, that’s all from us at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
A really entertaining game tonight. It was brilliance from Mo Salah to get Liverpool on the right track.
Harry Kane came back with one of his own.
    But the Reds held on.
We’re back next week with more Premier League action at SunSport.
    Conte on Son
“I sent him a message after the surgery. I hope he recovers and that he can play in the World Cup.
“Tonight we missed him but I’m confident he can come back quickly.”
    Conte on Kulusevski
“I was happy with him because we lost him for a while. And now we’ve lost Richarlison and Heung-min Son.
“Every team has injuries but it depends which players. If you ask me we have to be ready to manage the situation, we are doing it in the best possible way.
“I think that you have to be calm and assess very well the situation at Tottenham. Look at where we were one year ago.”
    Conte on booing
“I think we have to show great respect for our fans. They’re our fans and they pay for tickets.
“At the same time, if you ask me if I was a bit disappointed [with the booing] then yes. It’s important in every moment to be honest.
“I continue to repeat the same thing from the start of the season. We have just started a process. I think in one year we have made a lot of improvement.
“If someone says we’re ready to win now, I have to be honest and say it will be really difficult. You need time and patience, Liverpool is a good example.”
    Conte on Allison
    “He was Liverpool’s best player.”
    Conte is here
“Jurgen was happy with the way we played tonight,” he said.
“I have to make considerations about the whole game, the first half was a positive first half.
“We were 2-0 down, but the attitude, we prepared to put pressure high, one long ball and we conceded the second.
“I think Eric was unlucky in that situation. We hit the post, we played an open game, because we tried to give Liverpool difficulty.
“In the dressing room, I didn’t say anything negative, we have to continue to move the ball quickly.”
    Klopp on form
“We have to show commitment to defending. We need to show we aren’t punched too hard when we concede a goal,” he said.
“Everybody was 100 per cent into it, though. We cannot play outstandingly well all the time.
“But we showed resilience, tonight we got the three points and that’s massive.”
    Klopp on Salah
“In Mo’s slow start to the season he was still creating plenty of chances,” he said.
“Everyone will remember one of the best strikers you saw in five or six years’ time. He played like a real team player today.
“It was all about defending and then you’ll get your chances, after his two goals in the first half.
    “I’m really pleased for him.”
    Klopp on Konate
“Top game from Konate, I hope he’s fine and we’ll go from there.”
    Klopp is here
“I got a bit carried away with the celebrations, it was a really tough game for every body,” he said.
“It was a brilliant first half, couple of goals but Tottenham came back, they took a lot of risk, became direct, we had our counter-attacking moments but we weren’t precise enough.
“Then Tottenham scores their goal, really well played, we had to keep fighting. People who follow us know that in our best spells, we did it in the best way possible.”
    Awaiting the managers
Shouldn’t be too long before we hear from Jurgen Klopp and Antonio Conte here at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
    Fired up Klopp
A defiant Jurgen Klopp marauded over to the Liverpool fans in the corner and gave his usual three-fisted salute.

    Salah on his double
“I think we were lucky in the first half, we played quite good and managed to score two goals,” he told Sky Sports.
“In the second half we could’ve scored but were unlucky.
“We did well to get the three points. It is always a tough opponent. I’m focused on making a difference and managed to do so today.
“We managed to strike back a few times in the season, have played some good games.”

    Premier League table
Here’s how the table looks after the last game of the weekend.
Liverpool into 8th, Spurs down into fourth now.

    Tottenham 1-2 Liverpool
Well, a tale of two halves in the end in North London.
Spurs started the game okay but were ultimately undone by two chances which fell to one of the deadliest forwards in the league.
Mo Salah volleyed home from Nunez’s pass before lobbing over Lloris right before the half after Eric Dier’s weak header back.
Kane scored with 20 minutes to go after some brilliant work from Kulusevki.
And despite one final push from Spurs, that was all she wrote. Klopp’s men hung on for the victory.
Tottenham 1-2 Liverpool – FULL TIME
    90+5. And that’s it!
Liverpool win the game thanks to some first-half heroics from Mohamed Salah.
Spurs tried to get back into it and gave it their all.
Kulusevski came on and changed the game, providing the assist for Harry Kane.
But it wasn’t to be after that. A big win for Liverpool and they’re up to eighth.

    Tottenham 1-2 Liverpool
90+4. Now this is Spurs’ last chance… Perisic has the chance to square it but the ball is knocked into Allison’s hands.
Liverpool fans in loud voice now.
    Tottenham 1-2 Liverpool
90+3. The ball is played in but cleared before Bentancur plays it in again… Perisic is at the back post but his volley is blazed over the bar.
That could well be Spurs’ last chance.
    Tottenham 1-2 Liverpool
90+2. Oxlade Chamberlain coming on for Salah.
Spurs have a free-kick around 40 yards out and Hojbjerg is preparing to take it.
    Tottenham 1-2 Liverpool
    90. Corner to Spurs. FOUR minutes added time.
    Tottenham 1-2 Liverpool
    89. Lucas Moura comes on for Yves Bissouma. This is Conte’s last throw of the dice now.
They’re getting men forward Spurs they just need that final goal.
This time Kane heads wide again!
Doherty crosses for Kane, his header can’t be turned in by Bentancur at the far post.
    Tottenham 1-2 Liverpool
    87. Kulusevski trying everything in his might again to get Spurs back into the game but his ball can’t be met any of his team-mates.
Klopp into defensive mode now as Nunez comes off for Joe Gomez.
    Tottenham 1-2 Liverpool
    85. Allison down receiving treatment after a collision with Doherty.
Spurs fans aren’t loving this at all.
    Tottenham 1-2 Liverpool
    84. This time Bentancur has a go with his head.
The ball is lofted into the area but it’s too slow and the Argentine has to put all of his power into it.
It’s headed into the ground where Allison goes to meet it. Tenterhooks here.

    Tottenham 1-2 Liverpool
    82. Nunez hits the bar! He receives the ball again moments later and he turns before unleashing his effort onto the bar!
Nearly game over there for Spurs.

    It’s nearly time!
The players are out on the pitch and warming ahead of tonight’s massive Premier League clash.

    Big day for Liverpool
The Merseyside team’s record this season is an eyesore for Reds supporters.
They’ve won four, drawn four and lost four.
In fact, they’ve won more games in the Champions League, in which they’ve only played six times, than in the Premier League.
A win today and Klopp’s men would boost themselves just one place into eight place above Fulham.
Next week they’ve got Southampton at home in their final game before the start of the World Cup.
Klopp said: “Let’s make something special out of this game, for us.
“The whole thing starts with ‘win the first challenge’ – and celebrate it in the stands on the pitch. Not by running around, just by feeling it – that’s the first step.
    “Then go from there.
“I’m ready for that and the people gave me the sign after the game they’re ready for it as well.”
    Facts about the match
Over their last 21 meetings, Spurs have won just once, and that came all the way back in 2017, when Tottenham won 4-1 at Wembley Stadium.
But Liverpool have enjoyed the more fruitful form in this future, winning five of their last nine away games at Spurs, losing only once.
Harry Kane has notched six times against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, and with his 10 goals already this season, he’ll be looking to boost his tally further.
Roberto Firmino, on the other hand, has baffled in five of his last six starts against Spurs.
Conte and Klopp have played each other six times in the Premier League. Four draws and one win apiece.

    Liverpool are favourites
Here are some pre-match odds for you all to feast on.

There are three other Premier League games being played right now.
Look away now Man Utd fans…

Around 30 minutes left in each game. What a start to life as Aston Villa boss for Unai Emery.
    Liverpool’s injury woes
And if there’s one manager who knows exactly what Conte is feeling, it’s Klopp.
The Reds have been hampered by injuries all seasons, with centre-backs Ibrahim Konate and Joel Matip both out of action.
Diogo Jota will miss the World Cup and a big chunk of the season for Liverpool, while Luis Diaz is also out of action until the new year.
“I hate this subject,” Klopp said of the football schedule.
“These problems were so clear and nobody mentioned it for one time until 3-4 weeks until the World Cup.
“We are all guilty for letting it happen in the first place.”

    Game day settings
    What a stadium this is.
Last season it played host to an epic 2-2 draw between the two sides.

    Spurs missing Son and Co
Antonio Conte spent much of his press conference ranting about the current football schedule, which will be interrupted later this month for the World Cup.
Numerous players from different clubs have pulled out of games with injuries which will force them to miss the Qatar showpiece, which is due to begin on November 20.
Today for Spurs, Cristian Romero, Richarlison and Son Heung-min will all miss the game.
Son had surgery on a fractured eye socket earlier this week, putting his World Cup with South Korea at risk.
And it’s left Conte seriously unhappy.
“This type of schedule is crazy,” said Conte.
“Many times I hear about the welfare of the players, but they are not really worried about the welfare of the players if the schedule is this.
“In every moment you show that the most important thing is the show must go on.”

    Welcome to Tottenham vs Liverpool
Hello and welcome to SunSport’s live coverage of Tottenham vs Liverpool in the Premier League.
Both Spurs and Liverpool have suffered rather inconsistent starts to their respective seasons, but it’s Antonio Conte’s side who still find themselves third in the league.
Liverpool, however, are down in ninth, and don’t look to close to getting anywhere near the top four right now.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have become accustomed to challenging for league titles in recent years, but their 2022/23 campaign has been a real struggle.
They do, however, have a big win over title favourites Man City, having beaten them 1-0 at Anfield last month.
But since then, the Reds have faltered again, losing clashes with relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest and 12th-place Leeds.
Tottenham could find themselves even higher than they are, but inconsistency has cost them.
They started the season well but have since lost games against North London rivals Arsenal, Man Utd and fourth-place Newcastle.
Both sides will see today as must-win, and the perfect way to inject some much-needed confidence into their campaigns.
A win for Liverpool will boost them further to top-four aspirations, while a Spurs victory would cement their credentials as a top three side.
