    Right time, right place
Remarkably, that was Liverpool’s first win of 2023.
For Jurgen Klopp and his players, it couldn’t have come at a better time with the fixtures that lay in front of them.
One win doesn’t make a season but if The Reds can use it as a springboard to bigger and better things.

Gakpo gets duck off his back
Cody Gakpo’s goal this evening will silence some of his critics who have cited the new man’s lack of goals and creativity since his January move.
After his goal, his game seemed to go up a gear or two as he started to brim with confidence.
Jurgen Klopp will be hoping that the Dutch youngster will use tonight’s performance as a catalyst for bigger and better things now.

    FT: Liverpool 2-0 Everton
Jurgen Klopp’s side pick up a big three points to get themselves out of the rut they found themselves in of late.
It was a cagey start to the game for the first twenty minutes or so but from that moment onwards, Liverpool seemed to rediscover some of the quality they have been missing of late.
More importantly the hunger seemed to be back, they need to carry that forward into the rest of their season now.

Liverpool are making good runs, utilising the space in between the Everton lines.
Diogo Jota seems to be warming up on the touchline.
    Liverpool 2-0 Everton
    64. Gakpo is growing in confidence after that goal.

The Egyptian cuts in onto his left and shoots but it is no problem for Pickford.
    Liverpool 2-0 Everton
    62. Simms come off for Gray for The Toffees.
Tough evening for the young Everton striker.
Gakpo breaks forward for Liverpool and feeds it Nunez who looks to bend it in the top corner but doesn’t quite get enough bend on his effort.
    Liverpool 2-0 Everton
    60. McNeil is seeing more of the ball down the Everton left in this half, but he is struggling to make an impact.
Mykolenko looks to offer him some support but the cross is poor.
This is the issue, Everton are now all over the shop defensively.

Leeds Utd 0 Man Utd 2 LIVE RESULT: Rashford and Garnacho with two late goals to hand United valuable victory – reaction

TWO goals from Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho have handed Manchester United victory at the home of rivals Leeds. In a fiery encounter, the Red Devils had to dig in and eventually showed their quality against a pumped-up Yorkshire side.
It keeps the pressure on United’s cross-town rivals Manchester City who play Aston Villa next, after Arsenal dropped points on Saturday.

Result: Leeds United 0-2 Manchester United
Goals: Marcus Rashford 80, Alejandro Garnacho 85

Full time – Leeds 0-2 Man Utd
A late flourish from Manchester United sees them earn all three points in the Pennines Derby.
Goals in the final ten minutes from Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho took the wind right out of the sails of a Leeds side that were competitive from the off, but lacking in cutting edge.
The result lifts United up to second in the table for the first time this season, but leaves managerless Leeds looking nervously over their shoulders at the bottom three immediately beneath them.
    Leeds 0-2 Man Utd
90+3. Wout Weghorst scores, but he too has his celebrations cut short by the offside flag.
This one isn’t exactly clearcut either with debate over who had flicked the ball in the striker’s direction from the corner.
Eventually, the header is deemed to be Harry Maguire’s rather than a Leeds’ defender, and the decision is upheld.
Leeds 0-2 Man Utd – Man Utd substitution
90+1. Marcus Rashford takes his leave after playing another crucial role.
Young Anthony Elanga will get a few minutes under his belt in his place.
    Leeds 0-2 Man Utd
    90. Rashford has the ball in the back of the net again, but no sooner has the forward slammer a slow shot across Meslier, the flag went up for offside.
There wasn’t much in it, mind you, and it takes VAR a few moments to confirm the assistant referee’s decision as correct.
And it was another fine finish from a player really enjoying their football again.
There will be four minutes of stoppage time to be played.
    Leeds 0-2 Man Utd
    89. Garnacho almost adds his second and United’s third.
Again the teenager gets away from the Leeds defence – this time on the right – but ultimately sees his shot blocked by Wober after checking back inside on to his left foot.
Leeds 0-2 Man Utd – Leeds substitution
    87. “Two-nil in your cup final…” sing the Manchester United supporters.
Meanwhile, Sam Greenwood has come on to replace Weston McKennie.
    Leeds 0-2 Man Utd
    85. That’s the game wrapped up for Manchester United!
With the home side looking to commit men forward, the visitors win back possession and benefit from the burning pace of Alejandro Garnacho.
Wout Weghorst threads a pass through for the teenager, who accelerates beyond Robin Koch, and slams a shot beyond Illan Meslier that finds the net via the inside of the near post.

    Three points in the bag!

    Leeds 0-1 Man Utd
    84. Leeds look deflated, and instead it’s the visitors looking to kill this contest off.
    Leeds 0-1 Man Utd
    82. It’s now the Manchester United fans making all the noise as the rest of Elland Road falls silent.
Can the home side pick themselves up for one last assault on the United goal?
    Leeds 0-1 Man Utd
    80. Marcus Rashford does it again!
Now playing on the left, Luke Shaw gets down the flank and clips a cross over for Rashford, now playing through the middle, to header unchallenged into the far corner.
There’s a lengthy pause as VAR check on the goalscorer’s position for offside (and perhaps double check after the weekend the video officials have had), but eventually the green light is given, prompting the travelling fans to erupt once more.

    Deadlock broken!

    Leeds 0-0 Man Utd
    78. Almost from Summerville! Almost!
The youngster gets in behind on the right and fires across De Gea, who blocks with his foot.
    Leeds 0-0 Man Utd
    77. Let’s be honest. This game was fun for a few moments early on, but it’s been really, really scrappy since.
    Leeds 0-0 Man Utd
    75. Into the final 15 minutes, and the game is there to be won.
I suspect, however, that it won’t be.
Leeds 0-0 Man Utd – Man Utd substitution
    74. The visitors follow suit with a change of their own.
Diogo Dalot has come the closest to breaking the deadlock so far, but the Portuguese defender is not going to see this game out.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka takes over at right-back.
Leeds 0-0 Man Utd – Leeds substitution
    73. Jack Harrison’s time at Elland Road may be coming to an end, but he gets a rapturous reception from the home fans as he is withdrawn here.
American Brenden Aaronson is on in is place.
    Leeds 0-0 Man Utd
    72. In perhaps the worst 30 seconds of football played in the Premier League this season, both sides give the ball away on two separate occasions.
    Leeds 0-0 Man Utd
    70. Luke Ayling has a history of scoring the spectacular against Manchester United.
The Leeds captain almost follows up the 30-yarder he pinged in at Old Trafford a couple of years ago with an audacious overhead kick here.
Unfortunately for those of a white rose persuasion, it was straight at De Gea.
    Leeds 0-0 Man Utd
    69. A barnstorming run from Firpo takes him away from Rashford and through the challenge of Fred.
The left-back eventually slides in Summerville, who wins a corner when his cross is turned behind.
    Leeds 0-0 Man Utd
    68. Rutter has shown some nice touches already, both in attack and when dropping deep to link play.
    Leeds 0-0 Man Utd
    66. Gnonto almost does exactly that.
With a drop of the shoulder, the diminutive forward comes inside off the left flank and drills a shot straight into the midriff of De Gea.
    Leeds 0-0 Man Utd
    65. The game has begun to open up at both ends.
It’s still frantic, still furious, but now there is plenty of space to exploit.
    Leeds 0-0 Man Utd
    63. United immediately look more of a threat.
Dalot finds himself in an advanced position on the right, but gets his cross in the direction of Weghorst all wrong.
Seconds later, the full-back has the ball again, and decides he’s not going to make the same mistake again.
This time the Portuguese defender takes aim with a fierce drive that crashes against the crossbar as Meslier looks on.
Leeds 0-0 Man Utd – Man Utd substitutions
    61. The first changes for Manchester United just after the hour mark.
Firstly, Lisandro Martinez is on for Tyrell Malacia, meaning Luke Shaw will revert to his custom left-back position.
Also on is Alejandro Garnacho, who replaces Jadon Sancho on his return to the starting line-up.

Zak Chelli vs. Anthony Sims Jr.
Credit where it is due, Zak Chelli put in a good performance over the course of the 10 rounds.
Sims looked a passenger for too much of the fight but in the 8th round at least, he attacked.
Chelli still had to be wary of a potential for getting caught by one but he didn’t treat it like a street brawl to get it done.
He will gain a lot from that fight.
Credit: Richard Pelham / The Sun
Zak Chelli wins by unanimous decision
Zak Chelli vs. Anthony Sims Jr. (Round 10)
Chelli has outboxed Sims in this fight.
He’s been more eager for the win.
Some big body shots in this round followed up with a right that rocks Sims.
He has to hold onto Chelli to stay up.
The round ends, solid finish by Chelli.
Zak Chelli vs. Anthony Sims Jr. (Round 9)
Chelli looks like his corner have had a word with him in the break there.
He comes out of the corner and goes for Sims from the off.
Landing a series of punches on the head of Sims he rocks him onto the ropes.
    Chelli definitely taking that round.
Zak Chelli vs. Anthony Sims Jr. (Round 8)
Sims comes out of the traps for the first time.
He starts the round at a high tempo and goes for Chelli.
Think his corner have had some honest words with him.
Chelli ends up on the canvas but nothing to do with a punch as Sims throws him to the ground.
He seems to know he needs to come out of his shell to get a win here.
Credit: Richard Pelham / The Sun
Zak Chelli vs. Anthony Sims Jr. (Round 7)
Chelli seems to be able to hold Sims at bay too much.
He is only landing a few shots in the round but Sims is not attacking at all.
Maybe he is conserving his energy.
Zak Chelli vs. Anthony Sims Jr. (Round 6)
Chelli takes another round on the scorecard.
Sims is struggling to land anything that is likely to do any damage at all.
His defence is getting weaker by the round.
It won’t be long before Chelli gets a telling blow through.
Zak Chelli vs. Anthony Sims Jr. (Round 5)
Chelli manages to land some big hits in that round.
Particularly a big right hand that rocked Sims’ head.
After that, he started to be able to get his jabs through Sims’ guard.
Zak Chelli vs. Anthony Sims Jr. (Round 4)
Chelli has a much better round there.
Landing his jab and following it up with looping right hands.
Didn’t land any telling ones but the intent was there.
Zak Chelli vs. Anthony Sims Jr. (Round 3)
Sims starts to look a bit more aggressive.
He is trying to get in close to Chelli and when he does he fires off some combinations looking to hurt his opponent.
Chelli seems to focussing on the body.
He is throwing haymakers that aren’t connecting.
Credit: Richard Pelham / The Sun
Zak Chelli vs. Anthony Sims Jr. (Round 2)
Both boxers seem to be a bit cagey in this one.
Body shots are being landed but that is about it.
In all fairness, they both seem to be defending the face well.
Zak Chelli vs. Anthony Sims Jr. (Round 1)
Both boxers go through the motions in the first round.
Exchanging jabs, testing each other’s defence.
Hopefully this one will warm up a bit.
    Next fight up…..
It is time for the co-main event.
    For the super-middleweight championship.
Zak Chelli vs. Anthony Sims Jr.
Scheduled as a ten round fight.
    Viddal Riley vs. Anees Taj
Well, the doctor did the right thing there to stop that.
Taj’s eye looked like a shark bite.
That would have opened up to the point where we could see skull.
    Solid win for Viddal Riley.
Credit: Richard Pelham / The Sun
    Fight over, Viddal Riley wins
Referee calls doctor to the ring
Viddal Riley vs. Anees Taj (Round 3)
Both boxers exchange blows but Riley manages to cut Taj’s eye open.
Viddal Riley starts to work the cut as blood stream from Taj’s eye.
This could work to Riley’s advantage now as this may get stopped if the blood obscures his vision.
Anees Taj is starting to look like a body double for Rocky Balboa in the 12th round against Ivan Drago.
Credit: Richard Pelham / The Sun
Viddal Riley vs. Anees Taj (Round 2)
Taj manages to land a big left on his opponent as they both swing punches at each other at the same time.
Riley is trying to work him with body shots.
Anees Taj is leading with the jab well.
Viddal Riley vs. Anees Taj (Round 1)
Both boxers take the first round easy as they sound each other out.
Taj goes for it initially, looking to finish this like he’s got a taxi with a meter running outside.
He lowers the levels for the rest of the round.
    Next fight up……..
Now we move onto a cruiserweight bout.
    Viddal Riley vs. Anees Taj
Riley was sounding confident backstage earlier.
We are in for eight rounds in this one.
    Tyler Denny vs. Brad Pauls
No surprise to the judges scores there.
    The champ retains his belt.
Pauls just couldn’t compete at the level needed to stop his opponent.
Tyler Denny wins by judges scores
Tyler Denny vs. Brad Pauls (Round 10)
Brad Pauls needs to knockout Denny in this round.
He doesn’t seem to realise this and is still boxing like we are all winners.
Denny is boxing like somebody who knows he has the points decision in the bag.
Brad Pauls looks very tired now.
His punches are landing with no power at all.
Denny lands a good right hand as blood spills onto the canvas.
That might be a broken nose.
Tyler Denny vs. Brad Pauls (Round 9)
It’s amazing how many punches to the back of the head land in these fights.
They are likely to more damage than anything else.
Then again, if referee pulled them up each time this happened, this fight would never finish.
Nothing of note in that round, other than it being the penultimate of the fight.
Tyler Denny vs. Brad Pauls (Round 8)
Both fighters land some big body shots.
Denny goes big with some combos and hooks but Pauls manages to duck and weave, dodging them all.
Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive and Dodge.
Classic advice from a classic film.
Pauls lands some good jabs towards the end of the round.

West Ham 1 Chelsea 1 LIVE RESULT: Blues held at London Stadium but rage over Soucek hand ball late on – reaction

CHELSEA have been held by West Ham at the London Stadium but will feel aggrieved by a late hand ball from Tomas Soucek.Joao Felix gave the Blues an early lead before former Chelsea player Emerson Palmieri squared the game up.

Stay up to date with all the action from London Stadium…
    Thanks for joining me!
Given how much these two teams have struggled to score goals recently, perhaps this game was always going to end in a draw.
But it didn’t seem as though it was going to end that way at half time after both teams had played on the front foot and looked to punish the opposition’s lapses in defence.
Joao Felix got himself on the scoresheet in what was a fantastic first half performance from the Atletico Madrid loanee.
Chelsea fans will be feeling wronged by a controversial handball decision that could easily have awarded them a penalty in the 89th minute of the game.
However, West Ham supporters will be quick to tell you that they were wronged by a controversial VAR decision of their own in the reverse fixture earlier this season.
The most worrying thing for the Hammers today was the sight of two key players, Lucas Paqueta and Nayef Aguerd having to be substituted after picking up worrying looking injuries.
David Moyes will be hoping for good news from the medical department in the week as he prepares his team for a trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in another London derby next Sunday.
Next up for Chelsea is a midweek trip to face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League before they host Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday.
Until then, all that’s left for me to say is thanks for joining me and I’ll speak to you next time!
    Graham Potter quotes
The Chelsea boss has been having his say on Joao Felix’s performance.
I thought he managed the game well, you could see his quality. He’s only going to get better and better. Graham Potter BT Sport
    West Ham injuries
Hammers fans will be sweating over the fitness of two of their star players ahead of their game against Spurs next weekend.
Lucas Paqueta only lasted 14 minutes before succumbing to shoulder injury and Nayef Aguerd came off with what looked like a muscular injury.
Aguerd in particular has struggled with injury since he arrived at the club and David Moyes now faces a nervous wait to find out the extent of the defender’s injury.
    Pressure on Potter
The Chelsea boss will be nervously checking his emails and hoping Todd Boehly’s name doesn’t flash up on his phone screen over the next few days.
Today’s draw at the London Stadium is their third in a row in the Premier League and means Chelsea have now played seven away games without a win – their last coming against Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa in mid-October.
Potter will be so disappointed that his team failed to capitalise on their total domination in the early stages as West Ham worked their way back into the game.
Wednesday’s trip to face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League looks even more important for the Chelsea boss now.

    Joao Felix
The Atletico Madrid loanee was outstanding in the first half as he terrorised the West Ham defenders with his mix of tenacity and technical ability.
He put the away side in front 16 minutes into the game with a well-taken goal after his run was picked out by Enzo Fernandez.
The Chelsea attacker’s performance did noticeably  drop off in the second half though as West Ham began to defend more cohesively, but there were plenty of encouraging signs for the West Londoner’s new  recruit.
    Match stats
Chelsea totally dominated possession but in the end a draw was probably a fair result.

Full Time: West Ham 1 – 1 Chelsea
It ends all square at the London Stadium.

    West Ham 1 – 1 Chelsea
90+5, We’re into the final minute of added time here.
Time is running out for one of these sides to find a winner.
    West Ham 1 – 1 Chelsea
90+3, West Ham look the more likely to win this in the closing stages.
Chelsea can’t get out of their own half.
    West Ham 1 – 1 Chelsea
90+2, Badiashile rises to meet the free-kick and head clear.
That was a good opportunity to find a late goal for David Moyes’ men.
    West Ham 1 – 1 Chelsea
90+1, Bowen wins a free-kick on the byline after a foul by Ben Chilwell.
    Emerson to swing it in…
    West Ham 1 – 1 Chelsea
90, The referee has decided that we’re going to have another five minutes added on here.
    West Ham 1 – 1 Chelsea
89, Chelsea are screaming at the referee for a handball in the box.
Gallagher’s shot does seem to come off Soucek’s arm in the penalty area but VAR decides not to intervene.
We’ll be talking about that incident after this game if Chelsea fail to find a late winner here.
    West Ham 1 – 1 Chelsea
86, That’s three goals that have been ruled out for offside in this game.
West Ham thought they’d found a late winner.
    West Ham 1 – 1 Chelsea
82, Soucek think he’s puts the Hammers in front!
But it’s ruled out by VAR!
Rice sees his header saved by Kepa and Soucek bundles the ball in at the back post.
The London Stadium erupts but the goal is chalked off after a lengthy check by the official at Stockley Park.
    West Ham 1 – 1 Chelsea
80, Uh-oh – this looks like another injury concern for the Hammers.
Aguerd is down and being checked over by the physios and it looks like he’s unable to continue.
Ben Johnson is coming on for the Moroccan.
    West Ham 1 – 1 Chelsea
79, Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s afternoon is over as Conor Gallagher comes on to replace him.
    West Ham 1 – 1 Chelsea
77, A flock of pigeons have taken a particular liking to the pitch here.
Perhaps that’s a sign that the second 45 hasn’t been the most breathless half of football.

    West Ham 1 – 1 Chelsea
75, There’s 15 minutes of normal time remaining here at the London Stadium.
Can one of these teams find a late winner?

    West Ham 1 – 1 Chelsea
73, Bowen goes down in the penalty area clutching his jaw after colliding with Reece James.
I don’t think there’s any malice in it on James’ part but he certainly caught the West Ham attacker with his elbow.

    West Ham 1 – 1 Chelsea
71, Reece James has looked rusty this afternoon.
He’s clearly still feeling his way back into it after recovering from the injury that kept him out of the World Cup.
England head coach Gareth Southgate is here to cast an eye over proceedings so a meaningful contribution form the Chelsea full back would certainly be timely.
    West Ham 1 – 1 Chelsea
66, Both managers have shuffled their pack here.
David Moyes has replaced Benrahma and Antonio with Flynn Downes and Danny Ings.
Graham Potter has made a triple substitution as Mount, Chilwell and Ziyech come on for the visitors.
Mudryk, Cucurella and Madueke are the players to make way for the Blues.
    West Ham 1 – 1 Chelsea
64, Antonio does brilliantly to roll Badiashile near the halfway line.
The former Monaco man has to bring Antonio down as he sprints in behind him and is shown a yellow card by Craig Pawson.
    West Ham 1 – 1 Chelsea
62, It looks like Danny Ings is going to be introduced by David Moyes soon.
West Ham need to change something here.
    West Ham 1 – 1 Chelsea
60, West Ham have dropped right off here and are inviting Chelsea onto them.
The home supporters are beginning to get a little uneasy.
