    29. West Ham can only half-clear the ball from the cross.
Chukwuemeka collects it inside the box, drops his shoulder and shifts the ball to his right foot.

    Great strike.
    Goal – Carney Chukwuemeka (Chelsea)
    West Ham 1-0 Chelsea
    27. West Ham need to start putting more pressure on Chelsea defensively.
If you let them have the ball and run at you, eventually they will hurt you.
When you stretch their back line, as Liverpool did, you look like you can score every time you come forward.
    West Ham 1-0 Chelsea
    25. Fernandez clips a ball into the box with Chilwell arriving at the back post.
He cannot get above the ball and his glancing header goes well wide.
Chelsea really lack an aerial presence in the box when attacking, unless it is a corner and Thiago Silva is there.

At times they seem to lack ideas coming forward.
Fernandez slides the ball into Sterling who manages to win a corner.
    West Ham 1-0 Chelsea
    17. This is end to end stuff at the moment.
Neither defence is coping with the quick-paced attacks.
For the neutral, it could mean plenty of goals for us today.

He brings the striker down but the assistant referee immediately raises his flag for offside.
VAR checks it and agrees the Chelsea player had started his run too early.
    West Ham 1-0 Chelsea
    7. James Ward-Prowse starts to repay his transfer fee seven minutes into his Hammers debut.
His pinpoint corner found Aguerd at the back post who towered over Gallagher to score.
West Ham look so dangerous in the air against this Chelsea side already.
Goal – Nayef Aguerd (West Ham)
    West Ham 0-0 Chelsea
    5. West Ham win an early corner, chance for a Ward-Prowse delivery.
He finds Zouma with the cross and The Hammers almost turn it into the back of the net.
Good save from Sanchez to keep it out.
    West Ham 0-0 Chelsea
    3. Paqueta is down with an injury early on here.
He seems to be in some pain on the ground.
The physio is on with that magic sponge to treat him.
    West Ham 0-0 Chelsea
    1. Chelsea come forward from the kick-off.
Chukwuemeka gets to the byline and clips a ball into the box but there is nobody in the box to challenge for it.
West Ham will absorb the visitors’ attacks and look to hit them on the break.
    Kick-off: West Ham vs Chelsea
We are underway at the London Stadium.
It is a fantastic atmosphere for the first home game of the season.
    Chelsea get the game started.
    Different game, different captain
Chelsea have Ben Chilwell as skipper for today’s game.
Following the injury to Reece James, the former Leicester defender turned winger steps into the breach.
He will be hoping to lead his side to their first league win of the season.
    Bend it like Beckham
James Ward-Prowse is only one set-piece goal away from equalling David Beckham’s Premier League record.
The new West Ham signing has scored 17 goals from free kicks.
What a way to mark his debut if he were to score one today to win a London derby.
Summer sun shines on London Stadium
Hammers fans will be hoping their performances, with new signing James Ward-Prowse playing, will be as bright as today’s weather.
London derbies are always a big affair, David Moyes will be wanting his side to show more of a ruthless edge in them this season.
They do not want to be dragged into the relegation dogfight they almost were last season, that starts with three points against Chelsea today.

Man City 1 Newcastle 0: Champions edge cagey clash as Nick Pope blunder allows Julian Alvarez to score the winner

PEP GUARDIOLA asked the fans for a helping hand – and got an unlikely one from Nick Pope instead.Pope has been one of the real stars of the show in the Saudi-backed rebuild, and last season no-one conceded fewer goals than the Toon keeper.

The Argentine celebrates with Phil FodenCredit: Getty
But in this clash he was anything but a hero, when he failed to get off the ground and flapped a hand at the Julian Alvarez drive which sealed the champions’ win.
Manager Guardiola had feared the worst for his weary warriors, on the back of their exhausting midweek Super Cup exploits in the searing Athens heat.
Hence his pleas for the Etihad supporters to drive his troops over the line. He should send a special thank you to Pope as well, because for an international keeper it was poor.
Thank Heavens, then, for the driving force that is Phil Foden, and the eye-for-a-goal of Alvarez.
Although had the Toon made the most of their late possession, they would have left here with at least a point.
How City missed their crocked inspiration Kevin De Bruyne. It will be a long five months without the Belgian, believe me.
At least they had enough left in the energy tank to make sure their first home game ended in another celebration. They are becoming something of the norm at the Etihad nowadays.
And when City began like a side intent on staging their own version of keep-ball, you wouldn’t have staked much on it being anything other than party central yet again.
PADDY POWER WELCOME OFFER – Get £20 back as cash if your first bet loses
True, there wasn’t the cutting edge of some displays. As we saw when Alvarez trod on the ball to KO one thrust, and Haaland miscontrolled to wreck another.
You always felt, though, that it was only a matter of time before the champions picked the lock. That’s what they always do, after all.
And sure enough, little over half an hour in, bosh, there it was. City one up, Newcastle heads down and a case of “here we go again.”
How ironic, too, that for all their ability to slice through the most stonewall and solid of backlines, the Toon all but ushered this one into their own net.
The outstanding Foden fed Alvarez in the box, left in far too much space than a World Cup winning striker should be allowed.
He took a touch and arrowed an angled drive to Pope’s right…and the keeper’s efforts to save can only be called disappointing at best.
It was a boot in the backside that would have seen plenty of black and white sides of old crumble. The 2023 oil-fuelled version, though, is different.
These days there is a belief and, perhaps even more importantly, a backbone about Newcastle.
A confidence that even when things aren’t going to plan, even when they aren’t producing the flowing, fluent football manager Howe demands, they will find a way.
They have a spirit, a sense of the streetwise, a savvy-ness…and on occasions a spite. Just ask Ruben Dias.
Twice he was on the receiving end of late and, in the one instance at least, ludicrous snaps from Anthony Gordon.
To be honest Newcastle’s Scouse winger was lucky only to see yellow for the first, leaving a late foot in on the City centre back.
When he produced another only slightly less naughty ten minutes after the break – a challenge that referee Rob Jones frankly bottled out of punishing – Howe gave him the hook.
Not that sub Harvey Barnes failed to fill his boots, mind. Within two minutes he was in the book as well for hauling back Kyle Walker.
Yet they were still only a goal down. They were still in touching distance. They could still head home with something.
Certainly with City – and, amazingly, Erling Haaland in particular – for once not finding a laser-guided route to goal.
Twice Haaland had a clear sight, and twice he failed to make proper contact as he dragged left footed strikes wide.
Then a magnificent last-ditch sliding challenge from Fabian Schar denied him, just as the Striking Viking saw the whites of the Newcastle goal.
When Haaland did finally get a decent strike in, with his right foot, Pope came up with a stonewall block with his and another chance went begging.
And as each opening came and went, so the tension grew amongst home fans and hope rose with the visiting ones.
It should really have come to something when Rodri, of all people, gave the ball away and the Toon had an advantage in numbers as they broke.
Yet Barnes chose to shoot with others screaming for a pass, Ederson dropped to his left to save, and the opportunity passed.
It was to be the last genuine sight of the City goal Newcastle managed, for all nerves were frayed almost to breaking point by the final whistle.
For the Toon it was definitely a chance missed. For City another glimpse of why they are champions.
Far from at their best, but still too good for a side with dreams of nicking their crown. No chance…

    Up next: Manchester City
The next four fixtures look a lot easier for Manchester City than they do for Newcastle.
Newcomers Sheffield United are up next, before Fulham, who were comprehensively beaten by Brentford today…

    Up next: Newcastle United
This is how the next four games look for Newcastle United.
    Not easy at all.
Liverpool at home is next, followed by current league leaders Brighton and then Brentford, who are also unbeaten so far…

    Man of the match
There were a number of good performers from Manchester City today, and a few from Newcastle as well.
Ruben Dias was rock solid at the back, Rodri too in front of him, and Julian Alvarez scored a screamer.
Fabian Schar did excellently to keep Erling Haaland quiet, but there was nothing Newcastle could do to stop Phil Foden tonight.
And that is who our SunSport man of the match award goes to.
The young Englishman was excellent in the absence of Kevin De Bruyne, and it is some compliment to say that it didn’t look as though Man City even missed their Belgian maestro.
Who would you give the man of the match award to?

    Full-time match stats:
Manchester City were dominant tonight, but the scoreline may not reflect that…
They had 60% possession, and 14 shots to Newcastle’s 7.
The match stats may give you a better depiction of how the game played out, and we have them for you below…
The full-time match stats between Manchester City and Newcastle United

    Manchester City 1-0 Newcastle United
90+3. Manchester City look like they are just going to see this one out here, and we expect them to be taking all three points.
Phil Foden is given the man of the match award, and what a game he has had.
    Manchester City 1-0 Newcastle United
    90. There will be five minutes of added time at the end of the second half.
    Manchester City 1-0 Newcastle United
    89. Phil Foden perhaps misses the chance to find Kyle Walker, who is making a brilliant overlapping run on the right-hand side.
Maybe the first time he has put a foot wrong in this game, he has been sublime.
    Manchester City 1-0 Newcastle United
    87. A change for Newcastle here, and new boy Tino Livramento is coming on for Miguel Almiron.
He is a former young Chelsea player of the year, so there is no denying his quality.
    Manchester City 1-0 Newcastle United
    85. Lovely midfield play from Manchester City here, as they work the ball between Foden, Rodri, Kovacic and Grealish.
It is one touch football, a la Barcelona 12/13.
    Manchester City 1-0 Newcastle United
    82. Newcastle try to play the ball out of the back, but Rodri is on hand to intercept.
It hasn’t been the Spaniards finest game tonight, but he has still been top class.
    One of the world’s best.
Rodri has been top class in midfield for Manchester CityCredit: Reuters
    Manchester City 1-0 Newcastle United
    80. Bruno Guimaraes tops the charts so far for distance covered, with 10.1km in this game.
The next four players after him are ALL Manchester City players…
    Manchester City 1-0 Newcastle United
    78. Manchester City escape with Rodri, but his ball is cut out once again by Dan Burn.
Every time City look for the final ball into Haaland there seems to be a Newcastle player on hand to intercept.
    Manchester City 1-0 Newcastle United
    76. The free-kick is easily headed away by Newcastle after it was delivered into the box by Foden.
    Manchester City 1-0 Newcastle United
    74. A foul by Kieran Trippier, as he catches Jack Grealish late.
It hasn’t been an easy ride for the Manchester City Englishman tonight, but he stands over a free-kick here.
    Manchester City 1-0 Newcastle United
    72. Bruno Guimaraes is booked for a hefty foul on Phil Foden.
That takes it up to five bookings for Newcastle in this one now.
    Manchester City 1-0 Newcastle United
    70. Rodri gives the ball away in the middle of the park once again tonight, and Callum Wilson makes a bit of a mess of a 2 on 1 situation.
He works the ball into Harvey Barnes, who lashes a shot from distance, but it is easily saved by Ederson.
    Manchester City 1-0 Newcastle United
    68. Changes for Newcastle…
Callum Wilson comes on for Alexander Isak, and Elliot Anderson comes on in place of Sandro Tonali.
    Manchester City 1-0 Newcastle United
    66. Haaland forces a save from Pope!
It is great work AGAIN from Phil Foden, who has been sensational tonight.
He finds Haaland on his right foot this time, but Pope saves it with his feet.
    It feels like it’s coming…
Erling Haaland has missed a few chances in a matter of minutesCredit: Reuters
    Manchester City 1-0 Newcastle United
    64. So close for Erling Haaland!
Foden does brilliantly once again to find Erling Haaland, but he scuffs his shot wide.
Maybe it is not going to be his night?
    Manchester City 1-0 Newcastle United
    62. Gvardiol loses the ball on the left-hand side of defence.
It has been a fairly unnoticeable performance form the Croatian today, but perhaps that is testament to how good he has been?
    Manchester City 1-0 Newcastle United
    60. Harvey Barnes picks up a yellow card for a foul on Kyle Walker.
Foden does really well to pick out Erling Haaland, but Fabian Schar puts in a great tackle on the big striker.
    Manchester City 1-0 Newcastle United
    58. Rodri looks for an incisive ball into Erling Haaland, but he fails to find him.
The big Norweigan has failed to impact the game too much so far, but we know it only takes him one chance.
    Manchester City 1-0 Newcastle United
    56. Two changes for Newcastle…
Eddie Howe is going to do the sensible thing here, and replace Anthony Gordon with Harvey Barnes.
Local man Sean Longstaff is also coming on for Joelinton in midfield.

    PM Bank Holiday pressure
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has since been placed under mounting pressure to give the people what they want.
However, the Government have not announced any plans to grant an additional day off for the public.
A Government spokesperson said: “The current pattern of public and bank holidays is well established and there are no plans to change this.”
Extra bank holidays have been granted by previous governments to mark special occasions, such as the Millennium, special events and royal weddings.
Australia’s Prime Minister had backed calls for a public holiday if the Matildas won the trophy.

    Sarina Wiegman on Bank Holiday
England’s women’s coach Sarina Wiegman is also backing calls for a bank holiday should the team secure the win.
Speaking before the semi-final against Australia, Wiegman said: “Yes, I can see all the English here want it! I’m focusing on football and the game tomorrow.
“Let’s do everything to win the game tomorrow.”
Will there be a bank holiday if England win the Women’s World Cup?
Football fans in the UK are excited as the England Lionesses have progressed to the final of the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
After a nail-biting semi-final against hosts Australia, the Lionesses came away the victors with a 3-1 win.
England took on Australia at Sydney’s Stadium Australia which was sold out.
This is the first time that the England Ladies will have played in a World Cup final.
Goals from Ella Toone, Lauren Hemp and Alessia Russo helped to seal the Lioness’s place in the World Cup final.
In a similar reaction, the public is calling for the government to give a bank holiday should the ladies bring home the trophy.
    More on Sarina Wiegman
As an international player she gained 104 caps for the Netherlands but her most high-profile job has been her manager role with England.
The Lionesses beat Spain in the quarter-finals at Euro 2022 before dismantling Sweden in the semi-finals.
Wiegman then went on to clinch her second Women’s Euros title with two different nations when England beat Germany 2-1.
Who is England manager Sarina Wiegman?
Wiegman was born on October 26, 1969, in the Hague.
She began playing football when she was a kid and went on to have a long career in the sport.
Her playing career began at KFC 71 in 1987.
Wiegman also played alongside football legends Mia Hamm and Kristine Lilly while at the North Carolina Tar Heel’s soccer team at the University of North Carolina.
Who is Spain manager Jorge Vilda Rodriguez?
Jorge Vilda Rodriguez is a Spanish football coach and manager.
He was born on July 7, 1981, in Madrid and has been head coach of Spain’s women’s national football team since 2015.
Vilda was once a football player himself, having been a part of Real Madrid, Rayo Vallecano and FC Barcelona’s youth teams.
But after two major knee injuries at the age of 17, he moved into coaching instead.
Much of Vilda’s coaching career has seen him involved with Spain’s women’s youth squads.
He took on the role of assistant coach at WU17 and WU19 level before becoming the head coach for Spain’s WU17s in 2009, a position he held for five years.
Vilda is married to his wife María, who he reportedly shares two children with.
Can Lauren James play for England in the Women’s World Cup final?
England’s player of the tournament so far, Lauren James was sent off deep into the second half of standard time in the Lionesses’ last-16 clash with Nigeria.
James got into a scuffle on the floor with Nigeria’s Michelle Alozie, electing to stamp on her while she got off the deck herself.
The referee immediately went to look at the VAR screen before brandishing her red card in James’ direction.
James was handed an extended TWO game ban, missing the quarter-finals and the semi-finals.
But this means she is now free to play in the World Cup final against Spain.
“Lauren is really sorry for her actions which led to the red card and is full of remorse,” an England statement read.
“It is wholly out of character for her. We will be supporting Lauren throughout and will be putting forward representation on her behalf. We fully respect FIFA disciplinary process and will not be making any further comment until after any decision.”

    SunSport’s prediction
England have already beaten Spain once, and we expect them to do the same again on Sunday.
The Lionesses have continued to prove that they are more than capable of winning when it really matters.
And there is no bigger game than a World Cup final.
    Prediction: England 2-1 Spain
Who will be England’s star player?
Lauren Hemp was by far England’s stand-out player in the semi-finals.
The forward has grown in confidence throughout the tournament and is now firmly in the race for the Golden Boot.

    Jorge Vilda’s pre-match thoughts
Vilda insists that Spain have grown in strength throughout the tournament.
He said: “At the end of the day it has been a learning process, and I think it has made all of us stronger.
“Now we can file it (any off-pitch issues) away and put it behind us and think about the future, and think that we deserve to be where we are.”

How could the Lionesses line up?
Sarina Wiegman faces the dilemma of whether to change her semi-final winning team to include World Cup star Lauren James.
James has missed the last two games due to suspension after being shown a red card for stamping on Nigeria’s Michelle Alozie in the Lionesses’ last-16 clash.
Here is how we think England will line-up:

    Final team news
Sarina Wiegman will have a full 23-woman squad to pick from on Sunday.
Lauren James is set to return to the fold following her two-game suspension, but it remains to be seen whether or not she will slot straight back into the starting line-up.
The England boss will likely stick with Ella Toone in midfield following her excellent performance against Australia.
Spain manager Jorge Vilda also has a full squad to pick from.
Star players Alexia Putellas and Aitana Bonmati are both expected to start.

    Lionesses chasing history
Good evening and welcome to SunSport’s live blog of the Women’s World Cup final!
England’s Lionesses booked their spot on the bill with a thrilling 3-1 win over Australia this week.
But now Sarina Wiegman has her eyes firmly set on the prize.
This will be England’s first-ever Women’s World Cup final, but the Lionesses are approaching the game with confidence.
They are set to face Spain – one of the teams they beat on their way to Euro 2022 glory last summer.
England earned a 2-1 win over La Roja under the lights at the Amex Stadium, but it was a nail-biting affair.
And with the biggest trophy in women’s football at stake, Sunday’s final is set to be just as tense.

Man Utd fans will no doubt have a lot to say about this performance today and the same old gripes will be raised.
The ownership of the club often comes under scrutiny when things are not going well.
However, since his time at the club, Erik ten Hag has spent in excess of £350m on transfers and definitely been backed by the current owners.
The Dutch manager needs to make this work, ensuring that his vision is applied on the pitch, by the players currently at his disposal.
Although it is early days in the season, they will be fed up of seeing the same old problems from their team.
    Spurs blossom from Ange-r management
Tottenham have had a great start from their opening two Premier League games under their new manager.
Unbeaten in the league, they beat a side today that they have struggled to get the better of in previous seasons.
Despite losing Harry Kane just before the first game, Spurs have given their fans something to get celebrate here today.

    Shaky start at Old Trafford
After winning a game they could have quite easily lost against Wolves earlier in the week, it all went south for the Red Devils today.
Erik ten Hag looked short of ideas, and players to enforce them, once Tottenham took the lead today.
Having paid £72m for a striker not fit to play, United lacked threat in front of goal in North London today.
The manager has been told he must sell to by now and unless he can offload some unwanted players, may have to stick with his current squad this season.
    FT: Tottenham 2-0 Man Utd
He barely played under previous managers but Ange Postecoglou decided Yves Bissouma was an important cog in the his Tottenham engine room.
For the second game in a row, the Spurs midfielder was awarded the man of the match award.
He covered every blade of grass for his side today.

    FT: Tottenham 2-0 Man Utd
Despite the stats showing this an even game, it was Tottenham who bossed the second half and got the win their performance warranted.
It was the home debut Ange Postecoglou hoped for today.
A huge win for his side.

    FT: Tottenham 2-0 Man Utd
Michael Oliver blows his whistle to huge cheers from the North London crowd.
Tottenham get the win they deserved with a much improved second half performance.
They dominated Man Utd and got the win they craved.
    Tottenham 2-0 Man Utd
90+8. Eriksen clips a ball into the box which is met by Varane.
His header is tipped onto the crossbar and goes over.
Immediately the assistant referee raises his flag for offside.
    Tottenham 2-0 Man Utd
90+6. Casemiro clips a ball into the back post towards Pellistri.
Not a dominant player in the air he is just eased off competing for it.
The visitors are struggling to even trouble Vicario in the Spurs goal now.
    Tottenham 2-0 Man Utd
90+4. Tottenham are getting eleven players behind the ball whenever Man Utd come forward now.
A wall of players in white stands between the United player and goal.

90+2. There was a huge groan from the Tottenham fans when that board went up.
Hojbjerg does well to turn his man and bring the ball forward for the hosts.
They are just looking to run the clock down now.

    Tottenham 2-0 Man Utd

    90. Tottenham come forward again but are lacking players in the box for crosses.
The midfield supporting their attacks was helping them earlier but now they have more defensive players on the pitch, the support is not there.
We are going to have 9 additional minutes added.
    Tottenham 2-0 Man Utd
    88. Pellistri runs towards the byline and goes to ground appealing for a penalty.
The referee is not interested at all.
Kulusevski and Porro come off for Emerson Royal and Solomon.
    Tottenham 2-0 Man Utd
    86. Man Utd whip a cross into the box in desperation but Vicario comes and gathers the ball well.
The visitors look devoid of ideas in the attacking third.
Fernandes gets to the byline and clips a cross in but it is headed clear.
    Tottenham 2-0 Man Utd
    84. The ball is played by Perisic towards Ben Davies who tries to pass the ball into the bottom corner.
He gets such a slight touch, the ball is going wide but Martinez has a swipe at it and sends it into the bottom corner.
I would be amazed if that goal is credited to Ben Davies.
Own goal – Lisandro Martinez (Man Utd)
    Tottenham 1-0 Man Utd
    82. Man Utd are looking disjointed in midfield and attack.
It looks as though players are being thrown on, hoping that something happens.
They are lumping balls forward more in hope than anything else.

    Tottenham 1-0 Man Utd
    80. Time is starting to run out for Man Utd.
The more they chase the game now, the more they open themselves up to the counter attack, throwing bodies forward.
Mount’s cross is headed clear, Casemiro hits it from distance but it is an easy save for Vicario.
    Tottenham 1-0 Man Utd
    78. Rashford looks to run at Porro but the full back does well to win the ball back.
Tottenham come forward on the counter attack but Perisic wastes the chance when he plays a poor pass looking for Son.
Football is a game of fine margins and this game is on a knife-edge right now.
    Tottenham 1-0 Man Utd
    76. Pulisic has gone out to the left to play now and Son has slotted into the centre forward role.
Lots of players are slipping on the turf at the moment.
Sarr comes off for Tottenham, being replaced by Hojbjerg.
    Tottenham 1-0 Man Utd
    74. United look to play it short to Eriksen who slips and almost gifts the ball to Tottenham.
Varane reacts quickest and hits the ball behind for a corner.
For a split second it seemed he had beaten his own keeper with the clearance.
    Tottenham 1-0 Man Utd
    72. Despite being the better team in this second half, they have a slender lead over United.
Postecoglou will be wary of that.
Man Utd need to go for it, the more time ticks on in this second half.
    Credit: PA
    Tottenham 1-0 Man Utd
    70. Undogie and Richarlison come off for Tottenham.
They are replaced by Davies and Perisic.
Postecoglou looking to react to the Man Utd changes.
    Tottenham 1-0 Man Utd
    68. Man Utd need to find a way back into this game.
They have now switched Bruno Fernandes out on the right wing.
Tottenham will no doubt look to catch them on the counter attack.
    Tottenham 1-0 Man Utd
    66. Garnacho, Wan-Bissaka and Antony are brought off.
Eriksen, Dalot and Sancho come off to replace them.
The Dutch manager is not happy with what he is seeing out on the pitch.
    Tottenham 1-0 Man Utd
    64. Man Utd are getting overrun by Spurs currently.
Erik ten Hag looks set to make some changes imminently.
If it continues like this, a second Tottenham goal is only around the corner.

    Bournemouth vs Tottenham (Aug 26)
    Burnley vs Tottenham (Sep 2)
Tottenham vs Sheffield United (Sep 16)
    Arsenal vs Tottenham (Sep 24)

    SunSport’s prediction
Tottenham look like they’re going to try and blow teams away offensively this season under Postecoglou’s regime.
But committing too many men forward could open the door for Man United’s counter-attacks to catch out the Spurs back line.
The likes of Richarlison and Heung-min Son will have to be on their game to convert the chances Spurs do create if they’re to get all three points.
    Prediction: Tottenham 2-2 Manchester United
Who will be Man United’s star man?
Marcus Rashford was Man United’s star man last season and up against a committed Tottenham attack he could certainly make the most of his blistering pace to catch them on the counter attack.

Who will be Spurs’ star man?
Tottenham will be looking to James Maddison to make things happen after he registered two assists on his Spurs debut.
Maddison himself will be hoping to impress in front of the fans at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the first time.

    Man Utd team news
Rasmus Hojlund remains out for United as he picked up a back injury in pre-season with Atalanta before moving to Old Trafford.
Lisandro Martinez was hooked at half time during the Wolves game following a slight injury and could be a doubt for Saturday’s clash.
    Tottenham team news
Spurs should more or less remain unchanged but there is concern for Christian Romero, who came off in the draw with Brentford with a head injury.
Should he miss out he will join Bryan Gil (groin), Rodrigo Bentancur (knee), Ryan Sessegnon (hamstring) and Fraser Forster (back) on the sidelines.
    Big games need better performances
Last season, Tottenham lost 8 of the 10 games they played against sides who finished in the top five.
The only points they picked up in these games were against the two Manchester clubs.
A 1-0 victory over Man City came along with a 2-2 draw with Man Utd.
New era, chance for new start
Yves Bissouma will have had a different idea of how life in North London was going to pan out after he made the switch from Brighton.
It has been a frustrating time for the midfielder as he has struggled to make an impression and get himself a regular starting spot.
Against Brentford last weekend, Bissouma was one of the star players for Spurs and will be looking to build on that performance and ensure that under Postecoglou, he is one of the first names on the team sheet.
    Favourite fixture for Red Devils
Man Utd have won 39 of the 62 games they have played against Tottenham in the Premier League era.
It is the joint record for the most victories over a Premier League opponent, along with their record they hold against Everton.
Tottenham will have their work cut out today to change this as Erik ten Hag’s side look to extend their 100% start to the season.
Ange looking to break the trend
Tottenham have only won once in their last nine games in this fixture.
In October 2020, they won 6-1 at Old Trafford in a memorable victory.
Man Utd have won twice and drawn twice at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and only them and Liverpool remain unbeaten at the ground in the Premier League.
    The curious case of Richarlison
Ever since his £50m transfer from Everton, the Brazilian striker has found goals hard to come by at Tottenham.
Despite regularly scoring goals for Brazil, this form has not yet been seen by Spurs’ fans.
Playing second fiddle to Harry Kane, Richarlison now has the chance to prove his worth and win over the hearts and minds of the North London faithful.
Man United’s next five Premier League games

Tottenham vs Manchester United (Aug 19)
Manchester United vs Nottingham Forest (Aug 26)
Arsenal vs Manchester United (Sep 3)
Manchester United vs Brighton (Sep 16)
Burnley vs Manchester United (Sep 23)

Home is where the heart is
Ange Postecoglou will be more than aware of how important it is to make your ground somewhere that travelling sides do not relish visiting.
Over recent years, Tottenham have really struggled against the top sides and will need to find a way to grind out results in these games.
With the departure of Harry Kane, pressure is on some of their other star names to step up to the plate and show how they can fill in for the hole left by club’s all-time record goalscorer.
Dutchman will be expecting more from stars
While in the post-match interview Erik ten Hag said he was happy with his side’s performance, this had to be just for the cameras.
If the manager was actually content with what he saw on the pitch, you would have to question whether he was watching the same game as the rest of us.
His side were largely played off the park by Gary O’Neil’s side and did not look like a side who will be challenging for honours this season.
    VAR stars for United victory
Man Utd won their first game of the season in very controversial style.
Despite Wolves dominating the game, the visitors just could not find their form in front of goal and fell behind to a Raphael Varane header.
In the closing stages of the game, Andre Onana wiped out Sasa Kalajdzic getting nowhere near the ball but unbelievably the VAR review decided it was not a penalty.
Welcome to Tottenham vs Man Utd
The game of the day sees Tottenham welcome Erik ten Hag’s Man Utd to North London for Ange Postecoglou’s first home game of his reign.
Life without Harry Kane started at Brentford last weekend but Tottenham had to settle for a draw and will be keen to get their first Premier League win of the season.
Man Utd were very fortunate to get all three points as they welcomed Wolves to Old Trafford as the visitors dominated the game and their inability to score was to cost them.
For Tottenham, Bryan Gil, Rodrigo Bentancur, Ryan Sessegnon, Fraser Forster and Alfie Whiteman will all miss this game through injury.
Tanguy Ndombele was not involved in the squad last weekend, despite being fit to play, so it remains to be seen if he will make the squad today.
Cristian Romero has been passed fit to play after concussion concerns and will rejoin Micky van de Ven in the centre of defence, while Eric Dier and Japhet Tanganga tried to force their way back into the matchday squad.
For Man Utd, Lisandro Martinez suffered a minor ankle injury in their first game but the injury has been played down and he is expected to available for today’s game.
Rasmus Hojlund, Kobbie Mainoo, Tyrell Malacia, Amad Diallo and Tom Heaton all head the injury list for the Red Devils.
Christian Eriksen may well be brought back into the starting line-up to face his old side.

    Have a lovely night!
    Up next for Werder Bremen
SC Freiburg are next in line for Werder Bremen, away from home this time in a game that should definitely be easier than what they faced today.
Even though they were dominated, they should be able to put this performance to bed, and take the positives before moving on to next week.
xG is one stat that will need improving for Werder, as they failed to capitalise on the chances they created today, and more chances will lead to more goals for Fullkrug and Ducksch in the frontline.

    Up next for Bayern
It’s Augsburg at home up next for Bayern Munich, and they will be looking to continue their bright start to the season next weekend.
No doubt Harry Kane will be back on the team sheet and looking to score on his home debut…
    Match stats:
Munich dominated the game, as the match stats show, and in the end the scoreline reflected that.
Even though Bremen had a good spell when the score was 0-1 at the start of the second half, they failed to capitalise and Bayern piled on the goals late on in the game.
The match stats as Bayern Munich beat Werder Bremen
    Man of the match
Pace, finishing, skill and footballing intelligence – Leroy Sane has got the lot.
Underrated by Manchester City, the winger wasn’t deemed necessary for Pep Guardiola, and given their success it is hard to argue against his decision.
Now however, he is being linked with a return to Manchester, and tonight’s performance may have added a few more millions to his price tag.
Chances came his way, and he dispatched two of them with relative ease, in a performance in which the Bremen defence simply could not handle him.
He takes the SunSport man of the match award tonight, and looks set for a sensational season once again.
    How was Harry Kane?
    Sensational.
Quality in every aspect of his play, he showed his class when it comes to finishing, desire and link-up play.
Unreal was his work ethic, which we are so used to seeing in England was on display, as he was defending his own box at points.
It was a well rounded, solid showing – not his dazzling best – but very good nonetheless.
Debut delight for Harry Kane, his goal was a simple finish after a great pass from Alphonso Davies. Superb showing.

    Werder Bremen 0-4 Bayern Munich
FT. The referee blows the full-time whistle here at the Weserstadion.
Stay with us as we have full analysis of the game coming to you next!
    Werder Bremen 0-4 Bayern Munich
    90+4. IT’S FOUR!
Star boy Mathys Tel smashes home from inside the box, and Leroy Sane’s reaction says it all. He is impressed.
What a strike that is on his right foot from just inside the box.
    Great hit. 0-4!
    Werder Bremen 0-3 Bayern Munich
    90. GOAL! Leroy Sane at the double!
Muller and Choupo Moting combine brilliantly inside the box against a tired Bremen defence before the ball is squared to Leroy Sane, who taps home with ease.
    Werder Bremen 0-2 Bayern Munich
    88. Choupo-Moting does really well to work the ball out from the back, and switches the play to the right-hand side.
Bayern are just going to see this one out now.
    Werder Bremen 0-2 Bayern Munich
    86. A huge chance straight after the changes for Mazraoui!
He should be squaring the ball there, but is greedy, goes for the shot and misses it.
    Werder Bremen 0-2 Bayern Munich
    84. Harry Kane is going to be replaced here by Mathys Tel.
Thomas Muller is coming on also for Jamal Musiala.
The final change is Choupo Moting, who is coming on in place of Kingley Coman.
    Werder Bremen 0-2 Bayern Munich
    82. Harry Kane is down, and it looks like he just has a bit of cramp.
    Werder Bremen 0-2 Bayern Munich
    80. A couple more changes for Werder Bremen here as we enter the final ten minutes.
Leon Opitz and Dawid Kownacki are replacing Anthony Jung and Jens Stage.
    Werder Bremen 0-2 Bayern Munich
    76. A foul by Jamal Musiala on Romano Schmid gives Bremen a free-kick from distance.
Will they go all out for the comeback now? Or settle at 0-2?
    Werder Bremen 0-2 Bayern Munich
    74. BUT NOT ANYMORE! GOAL! HARRY KANE!
Alphonso Davies plays a lovely ball into the English striker, and he has plenty of space to just roll it into the back of the net.
Great finish. Thomas Tuchel is beaming.
    Werder Bremen 0-1 Bayern Munich
    73. After Sane opened the scoring early on, not too many would have expected that it would still be 1-0 after 73 minutes.
Bayern have not killed this game off perhaps as they should have, and have missed a host of chances.
There is a still a chance that Bremen get a result out of this.
    Werder Bremen 0-1 Bayern Munich
    70. Kingsley Coman plays a ball into Harry Kane in the middle of the box.
The England striker gets a touch on it, but it isn’t enough to direct the ball goalwards.
    Werder Bremen 0-1 Bayern Munich
    68. A few changes here:
Matthijs de Ligt comes on for Kim Min-jae.
Christian Gross is on for Senne Lynen.
And Romano Schmid comes on for Leonardo Bittencourt.
    Werder Bremen 0-1 Bayern Munich
    66. Musiala dances with the ball on the edge of the box before finding Kingsley Coman.
He plays a nice reverse pass to Joshua Kimmich on the edge of the box, but he fires the chance wide.
    Werder Bremen 0-1 Bayern Munich
    64. Mazraoui is down after he is caught off the ball on a dangerous Bayern break.
It looks as though he will be fine to carry on.
    Werder Bremen 0-1 Bayern Munich
    60. Substitute for Werder Bremen.
Oliver Burke comes on in the right back position for Mitchell Weiser.
The former is traditionally a right midfielder, but will be better at dealing with the pace of Alphonso Davies on the left side.
    Werder Bremen 0-1 Bayern Munich
    58. Kingsley Coman hits the post!
So close for the French winger!
Davies finds him on the left side of the 18-yard box, he turns and hits a shot towards the far right side of the goal.
It is low and hard, but cannons back out off the post.
    Werder Bremen 0-1 Bayern Munich
    57. It’s an awful lot noisier here than in the first half at the Weserstadion.
That is a reflection of Bremen getting right back into this game and showing some fight in the second half.
    Werder Bremen 0-1 Bayern Munich
    55. A yellow card for Kim Min Jae after a late challenge is followed by one for Senne Lynen of Werder Bremen.
