New Zealand 1 Norway 0: Hosts make history with first World Cup win EVER including the men’s team

HOST nation New Zealand made history on home soil by winning their first-ever World Cup match against 12th-ranked Norway. In a game where they were perhaps viewed as the underdogs, the Football Ferns dominated their disjointed opponents from the off while being roared on by 40,000 fans.
Wilkinson’s second-half strike secured the win for New ZealandCredit: Getty
Hannah Wilkinson’s second-half strike – which was the final product of a phenomenal passage of team play – was all that separated the two teams at the final whistle.
New Zealand had the opportunity to extend their advantage late in the game, but Ria Percival’s penalty – which was awarded in a historic VAR check following a handball from Tuva Hansen – rattled the crossbar, leaving the host nation shaken with nerves as the clock ticked down.
But they held on – just about. Norway had a few chances of their own, arguably the best coming from a close-range Frida Maanum strike, but each of them were ultimately wasted in the end.
For Norway, it was supposed to be a fresh start following last year’s European Championship disappointment.
Prior to the match, Caroline Graham Hansen emphasised that her teammates wanted to capitalise on the opportunity to progress further in the tournament.
But if today was anything to go by, they could be left disappointed once again.

    That’s all from Washington
Arsenal beat Wayne Rooney’s MLS All-Stars 5-0 at Audi Field in Washington during their second pre-season friendly.
The Gunners opened the scoring after just five minutes when Bukayo Saka found Gabriel Jesus just outside the area and the striker fired a beautiful flick that tapped Roman Burki’s right-hand post before hitting the net.
The North Londoners doubled their lead on 23 minutes when Saka again found Leandro Trossard from the right and the versatile forward produced a wonderful shot from the edge of the box that hit Burki’s bottom left corner.
Mikel Arteta’s men earned a penalty-kick in the first few seconds of the second half when St. Louis City’s Tim Parker handed the ball during a challenge with Jesus.
Jorginho stepped up and easily beat DC United’s Tyler Miller to practically seal the win.
Arteta then handed debuts for summer signings Jurrien Timber and club record £105million transfer Declan Rice in the 65th minute.
The two arrivals helped Arsenal score two more goals as captain Martin Odegaard found Gabriel Martinelli with a wonderful ball from midfield and the Brazil international finished brilliantly in the 84th minute.
And Kai Havertz scored his first ever goal for the club in his second appearance as he picked up a cross from Marquinhos and beat New England Revolution’s Dorde Petrovic with a clinical finish one minute before full-time.

    Declan Rice shines
Arsenal’s record signing Declan Rice impressed in his first ever appearance for the club.
Rice came on during the second half and immediately looked at home.
The England international appeared to play more as a No6 rather than a No8 and anchored the Gunners’ midfield.
The 24-year-old only spent 26 minutes on the pitch but left immense promise for the future and manager Mikel Arteta could indeed build the team around him.
The ex-West Ham captain inspired confidence and composure as he helped the North Londoners maintain possession and build from the back.

    Arsenal vs MLS All-Stars analysis
Here’s what SunSport’s man on the field Martin Lipton made of Arsenal’s dominant win over the MLS All-Stars:
Declan Rice made his Arsenal bow as Mikel Arteta’s men cruised past Wayne Rooney’s woeful MLS All-Stars.
The £105million midfielder was part of a slew of second-half replacements as Arteta gave his entire squad a run-out.
And while there is far more to come from the England ace, he looked immediately at home among the Gunners stars as he anchored the middle of the park.
Rice’s unexpected 26-minute appearance was a further positive for Arsenal, who won without breaking out of second gear.
First-half stunners from Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard made it oh so easy, with Jorginho’s penalty at the start of the second half ensuring the victory before Rice trotted on to wild acclaim from his new supporters and fellow subs Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz added more home pain.
Arteta hopes his new “lighthouse” will be the missing link, with Rooney calling on him to become the “leader” of the Gunners pack.Martin LiptonSunSport

    Next up for new-look Blues
There will be barely a moment for Chelsea’s squad to dwell on tonight’s action with their US tour continuing at pace as the calibre of opposition ramps up.
Awaiting the Blues in the next ten days are three Premier League sides – Brighton, Newcastle and Fulham – that finished above them last season.

Full time – Chelsea 5-0 Wrexham
A late burst of goals sees Mauricio Pochettino’s first game as Chelsea manager finish with a flourish.
Strikes in the final ten minutes from Conor Gallagher, Christopher Nkunku and Ben Chilwell put the gloss on Ian Maatsen’s first half double as the Blues came through their first pre-season outing.
    Chelsea 5-0 Wrexham – It’s five!
90+4. With the last kick of the game, Ben Chilwell makes it five!
As the lock strikes the allotted 93 minutes, Angelo dissects the Wrexham defence with a peach of a pass for the arriving full-back.
Faced only with Rob Lainton, Chillwell keeps his nerves and cooly lifts the ball over the oncoming goalkeeper.
    FPL players, take note!

    Chelsea 4-0 Wrexham
90+1. We’re into three minutes of stoppage time at the Kenan Memorial Stadium.
Chelsea 4-0 Wrexham – Nkunku on the mark!
    90. He’s barely had a look-in since his half-time introduction, but Christopher Nkunku has marked his first Chelsea appearance with his first Chelsea goal!
The French forward is slipped through the middle by Cesare Casadei’s smart pass, and while Rob Lainton holds him up as he attempts to skip around the goalkeeper, Nkunku reacts expertly to slam the ball into the vacant net.
The first of many? The Stamford Bridge faithful will certainly hope so.

    Chelsea 3-0 Wrexham
    88. Well played by Cucurella, who defies the odds to get back to deny Davies a route to goal.
It’s amazing what a half hour rest can do for the body.
    Chelsea 3-0 Wrexham
    86. Wrexham are finishing strongly, and are desperate to get themselves on the scoresheet.
Bergstrom has had more to do in the Chelsea goal during his cameo than Cumming during his 76 minutes on the pitch.
    Chelsea 3-0 Wrexham
    84. What’s happening here? Captain Trevoh Chalobah appears to have a minor problem, and is going to be replaced by…
Marc Cucurella?! The Spanish left-back was substituted himself at half-time.
To be honest, that just makes a mockery of the Florida Cup and its grand heritage.
    Chelsea 3-0 Wrexham
    83. McAlindon receives some treatment after ending up on the receiving end of an accidental Sterling elbow.
Chelsea 3-0 Wrexham – Gallagher makes it three!
    81. Yes, there is!
Chelsea do have a third goal, and it comes courtesy of Conor Gallagher.
Once again, Raheem Sterling has room to run on the left, and then looks for space to cut inside and on to his right foot.
The England international has no joy with his first touch, but after a heavy second, he instead opts to move the ball on to Gallagher outside the box.
Head down and over the ball, the midfielder drills towards the bottom corner, and just about beats Rob Lainton in the Wrexham goal.

    Chelsea 2-0 Wrexham
    79. Just over ten minutes remaining at the Kenan Memorial Stadium. Is there a third goal in this one?
    Chelsea 2-0 Wrexham
    77. Chelsea make a change between the sticks as Lucas Bergstrom takes over from Jamie Cumming.
Can the young Finnish stopper maintain his side’s clean sheet?
    Chelsea 2-0 Wrexham
    74. The attendance has been confirmed as being 50,596.
A lot of people have come this evening out for a glimpse of one of the world’s glamour clubs, packed full of stars and celebrities.
They were probably intrigued to see Chelsea too.
    Chelsea 2-0 Wrexham
    72. Another drinks break.
After all, some of these players have been out on the pitch for a good ten minutes.
    Chelsea 2-0 Wrexham
    70. Seconds after Barnett had laid Wrexham’s best chance of the night on a plate for Waters at one end, Chelsea block, break and almost extend their lead at the other.
A quick move down the right sees a cross teed up for Sterling arriving at the far post, but the England star is unable to convert what would have been a rare-headed goal.
    Chelsea 2-0 Wrexham
    68. Red sky at night, second half s… low to get going.

    Chelsea 2-0 Wrexham
    67. Unsurprisingly, with all the changes that have taken place, the intensity and fluidity has gone from the game.
It now has very much the feel of a pre-season game being played abroad.
Don’t these guys know that the Florida Cup is on the line!
    Chelsea 2-0 Wrexham
    65. Chelsea have snuck in another sub themselves.
Lewis Hall, who we saw a few times on the left last season, is on for Andrey Santos.
    Chelsea 2-0 Wrexham
    64. A swing and a miss from Raheem Sterling!
The Chelsea substitute goes for goal with an outlandish effort but is way off target.
    Chelsea 2-0 Wrexham
62: I was wrong, it was six substitutes.
Wrexham bring on Ollie Palmer, Billy Waters, Luke Young, Max Cleworth, Jordan Davies and Liam McAlinden.
Off go Paul Mullin, Sam Dalby, James Jones, Ben Tozer, Elliot Lee and Tom O’Connor.
    Chelsea 2-0 Wrexham
    60. Gallagher is back being his busy self out there, winning possession and feeding Sterling.
Meanwhile, Phil Parkinson is preparing what looks to be a quintet of substitutes.

Jonny Evans attacks it but the defender gets underneath him and manages to put him off.
What a return to the club that could have been for Evans.
    Man Utd 1-0 Lyon
    84. This has been a much better game for the fans who have made the effort to come to Murrayfield today.
It is some good game time for ten Hag’s squad before they travel to the USA for the next leg of pre-season.
Hugill is fouled on the edge of the box but the referee isn’t interested.
    Credit: PA
    Man Utd 1-0 Lyon
    82. Lyon look to counter attack with pace.
Jonny Evans gets back and manages to win the ball back before being robbed himself.
Man Utd have managed to get numbers back and defend the break.
    Man Utd 1-0 Lyon
    80. Tagliafico has looked impressive for Lyon since coming on.
He seems keen to get forward and link up play despite playing left back.
All too often the moves have broken down sadly for Laurent Blanc.
    Man Utd 1-0 Lyon
    78. Jonny Evans will be pleased today if they can finish the game with their clean sheet in tact.
It will be two wins from two games without a goal conceded.
Granted, the opposition have not been the greatest but you can only beat what is put in front of you.
    Man Utd 1-0 Lyon
    76. Lyon look set to make another change.
Of all the players that will have impressed ten Hag today, Dan Gore has to be up there for man of the match.
Despite only playing the second half, he set up the goal and has put in a real shift here.
    Man Utd 1-0 Lyon
    74. Lyon seem to coming alive a little more now.
It has only taken them 29 minutes in the second half to do so.
Hugill comes charging forward but it tackled and dispossessed.
    Credit: PA
    Man Utd 1-0 Lyon
    72. Fred looks to have a shot at distance but it causing the ballboys more problems than it was the Lyon keeper.
Not really known for his long-range shooting the Brazilian midfielder.
    We can see why.
    Man Utd 1-0 Lyon
    70. Hansen-Aaroen looks like a young Patrick Swayze.
Either way, he looks dangerous when he has the ball at his feet, running at this Lyon defence.
Gore is still bossing things in the centre of the park.
    Man Utd 1-0 Lyon
    68. Hugill is doing well offering an outlet in the final third.
It makes such a difference having a striker as a focal point.
Not many clubs will be watching that Sancho first half performance and be contemplating signing him as a striker.
    Man Utd 1-0 Lyon
    66. Fred breaks well and slides it into the path of Hansen-Aaroen.
He looks to bend one into the far corner.
The Lyon keeper makes a great save at full-stretch.
    Man Utd 1-0 Lyon
    64. Lyon seem happy to just pass the ball around.
They have no urgency to get forward and look to find themselves an equaliser at all.
That is the one downside with pre-season friendlies, they are mainly about getting match fitness levels up.
    Credit: PA
    Man Utd 1-0 Lyon
    62. It is nearly two years since van de Beek scored for Man Utd.
The player has been plagued with injuries and lack of game time, which led to a loan spell at Everton.
Erik ten Hag will be pleased to see that finish from him today.
    Man Utd 1-0 Lyon
    60. Dan Gore has been the real stand out player in these early stages of this half.
The 18-year-old midfielder looks confident on the ball and is constantly looking to link up play.
Lyon meanwhile have 7 players on the touchline waiting to come on.
    Man Utd 1-0 Lyon
    58. There seems to be a real hunger amongst the players given their chance in this half.
It wont be long before Blanc makes some changes.
His side are starting to look a bit leggy now.
    Man Utd 1-0 Lyon
    56. Lyon have struggled to muster a single attack in this second half so far.
Jonny Evans is having an easy reintroduction to the Man Utd side after 8 years since his last outing.
Such is the rarity of Lyon attacking, Steve Bruce could probably be playing at centre back and still look like Paulo Maldini.
    Man Utd 1-0 Lyon
    54. This has been a fantastic start by Man Utd.
They look a different team to the one that played the first half.
    Mainly because they are.
    Credit: PA
    Man Utd 1-0 Lyon
    52. Lyon are looking stretched at the back now.
Gore does well again and as the ball is crossed into the box, it finds Jurado at the back post.
Just as it looks like he is going to make it two-nil, a great block from the Lyon defender deflects it wide for a corner.

How did the new boys get on? (2/2)
There were a number of new players on display for Spurs, here is how they got on…

Vicario – 5/10 – Wasn’t great in goal, but did prevent Jarrod Bowen from making it 3-0 in the first half. Couldn’t have done too much about the goals, but still looked somewhat shaky.
Manor Solomon – 6/10 – Similar to James Maddison, was not at his best but did cause a few problems for West Ham at the back. Came close to scoring a few times but for the brilliant Fabianski in goal.

How did the new boys get on? (1/2)
There were a number of new players on display for Spurs, here is how they got on…

James Maddison – 6/10 – Pretty standard performance from Madders on his debut. Had some bright moments and came close with a header, but wasn’t at his brilliant best.

Destiny Udogie – 8/10 – The full-back was really impressive on his Spurs debut. Coming from Udinese last season, most people didn’t know what to expect, but would have been pleasantly surprised when he popped up with an equaliser for Ange Postecoglu’s side.

    Man of the match
There was a number of great performances out there today.
Ivan Perisic made a great impact when he came on in the second half, as did Destiny Udogie.
But the star man today for us was West Ham’s Freddie Potts.
The youngster had a lot of pressure on his shoulders, being dubbed as Declan Rice’s replacement, and put in a sensational performance in midfield.
He was industrious in midfield, composed on the ball and did exactly what was asked of him.
    One to watch…
    Full-time. Tottenham 2-3 West Ham
That’s full time in Perth, and the game ends 3-2 in favour of West Ham United!
What a game it was, with five goals between them and over 20 shots for Spurs, who still couldn’t outscore their London rivals.
We saw the first glimpses of a few new players for Spurs, some of whom impressed, and some who failed to shine straight away.
Full match reaction is coming to you next, stick with us!
West Ham made it three wins from three in pre-season, while Ange Postecoglu lost his first game in charge of SpursCredit: Alamy
    Tottenham 2-3 West Ham
    90. There will be four minutes of added time here in Perth.
Four minutes to rescue Ange Postecoglu’s return to Australia.
    Tottenham 2-3 West Ham
    89. Chances for Spurs
They are pushing for an equaliser in this one, but you don’t want chances falling to the weak foot of Davinson Sanchez do you?
The Colombian gets his shot on target, but it is easily saved.
    Tottenham 2-3 West Ham
    87. A note on Freddie Potts
The young Brit has been absolutely sensational in midfield for West Ham, and if he is Declan Rice’s replacement then the Hammers might just be in fine hands.
    Tottenham 2-3 West Ham
    84. Perisic has been really, really dangerous since coming on at half-time.
He swings another cross into the box, but Fabianski is there again to read it and punch it away.
    Tottenham 2-3 West Ham
    80. Can Spurs get another equaliser?
Or will West Ham restore their two goal lead?
It looks like Spurs are going to throw the kitchen sink at this one now…
    Tottenham 2-3 West Ham
    78. Gianluca Scamacca gives West Ham the lead!
Pablo Fornals plays a lovely ball through the middle to the Italian striker, who is baring down on goal and slots it into the bottom right corner.
    Great finish.
    Tottenham 2-2 West Ham
    76. It is 23 shots for Spurs to just 3 for West Ham in this game.
A stat that really shows Tottenham’s dominance, but also their failure to capitalise on their chances so far.
They will need to be more clinical if they are going to find a winner here.
    Tottenham 2-2 West Ham
    74. Can Spurs go on and find a winner here?
They are really playing with confidence here, and Ivan Perisic has been crucial in creating chances for the Lilywhites.
This game has much more of a London derby feel to it now.
    Tottenham 2-2 West Ham
    70. Destiny Udogie equalises for Spurs!
They were known as second half FC last season, and it looks as though that may continue this year.
A corner is whipped in and the full back is on hand to flick the ball into the far corner.
    Great header.
    Tottenham 1-2 West Ham
    68. They can’t hold out! Lo Celso scores for Spurs!
A cross from Perisic causes trouble in the West Ham penalty area, the ball is headed down, and Lo Celso storms in to hammer home a volley.
Finished with style from the Argentine.
    Tottenham 0-2 West Ham
    67. Great save from Fabianski AGAIN
It is Alfie Devine who is denied this time, as a cross from the left hand side goes all the way through to the young Englishman.
He lashes a shot at the near post, but Fabianski is there again.
Surely West Ham can’t hold out much longer…
    Tottenham 0-2 West Ham
    64. Non-stop pressure from Spurs here, surely it cannot be long until we see their first goal of pre-season.
    Tottenham 0-2 West Ham
    60. Yellow card for Emerson Royal
A late challenge from Emerson Royal on Emerson Palmeiri leads to the Brazilian getting the first booking of the game.
It caused a bit of commotion on the pitch too, with Angelo Ogbonna fuming at the Spurs defender.
    Tottenham 0-2 West Ham
    59. Richarlison hits the post!
That is the best chance of the game for Spurs so far, but Richarlison skims the outside of the post with a curling effort.
It was a great ball played through to him, and Tottenham will feel hard done by to not have opened their account yet.
    Tottenham 0-2 West Ham
    57. Mubama does brilliantly again for West Ham as he battles a few Spurs players in the midfield position.
That is the end of his cameo today, as he is replaced by Gianluca Scamacca.
    Tottenham 0-2 West Ham
    53. Richarlison looking bright
The Brazilian has looked impressive since coming on at half-time, following what was a lacklustre campaign by his standards last season.
This time he wins a free-kick as he is surrounded by West Ham players.
    Tottenham 0-2 West Ham
    51. Almost a sensational Spurs goal!
Spurs work the ball brilliantly on the left hand side with Sarr, and the ball eventually comes out to Emerson Royal on the edge of the box.
He side-foots the ball on the volley, but it sails over the bar.
    Bright signs for Spurs.
    Tottenham 0-2 West Ham
    48. There was a full change of Starting XI for Spurs at half-time, and this is how their lineup looks now:
Harry Kane’s evening is now over as Spurs have changed their whole team at half-time.
The new team is Brandon Austin; Emerson Royal, Davinson Sanchez, Ben Davies, Destiny Udogie; Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Pape Matar Sarr, Gio Lo Celso; Alfie Devine, Richarlison, Ivan Perisic.
    Tottenham 0-2 West Ham
    46. Huge early chance!
And it comes for Spurs. Perisic plays Richarlison in, and the Brazilian crosses into the middle but no luck this time either.
    Half-time. Tottenham 0-2 West Ham
Not quite how we expected the first-half to go, but it looks as though Spurs are experiencing those first game jitters as they find themselves 2-0 down to West Ham.
The opening goal was tucked away by Danny Ings, before Divin Mubama scored a header later in the half, which means the strikers in West Ham’s 4-4-2 shape have a goal each to their name.
Spurs will look to bounce back in the second half, they were causing some serious problems for West Ham at the end of the first, but couldn’t quite get the ball in the back of the net.
Something tells me Harry Kane may have something to say about that…

“Like a lot of you, I can’t wait to see Leo take the field in our colors. Ladies and gentlemen the next chapter of our story starts here.”David Beckham
    Cruz control
Cruz Beckham is now on stage getting a huge from his old man.
    David looks very emotional.
He did say he wanted to deliver a big name to the City.
It doesn’t get bigger than Messi.
    Messi’s words in full
“Thank you very much, good night. First of all I want to thank all the people of Miami for this welcome, this affection. I am very happy to be here, to be with you. I want to thank Jose, David. They are making everything easy for us, everything has been spectacular since we arrived. I really want to start training and compete. I want to win, for the club to continue growing. I hope that you will join us as we have since the season began. I thank my new colleagues for the welcome. I am very happy to have chosen this city with my family, to have chosen this project. I have no doubt that we are going to have a good time. Thank you all very much for this day.”Messi at his unveiling
    Celebs in tow
Tom Brady pops up on the screen.
Steph Curry too, and DJ Khaled and Pitbull.
It’s a spectacle befitting of the world’s greatest talent from sport and music.
And they are all welcoming Messi to US shores.
    Messi’s moment
In Spanish, Lionel Messi delivers his message to his adoring supporters.
“Thank you for the welcome. It has felt like home very quickly, ” he says into the mic.
“I want to start training and competing.”
    Beckham on stage
Becks’ looked the business as he delivered his speech to Inter Miami’s fans.
He looks pleased as punch to announce his man.

    ‘Your no 10, America’s no 10 Lionel Messi…’
And there it is. Announced by Mas.
Messi takes to the rain-soaked cat walk, avoiding injury thanks to his nimble balance and managing to stay on his feet.
    The crowd are loving this.
    Mas takes centre stage
Never short of a sound bite or opinion, Jorge Mas dishes his two pence.
“This rain is like holy water,” he jokes.
“This is a city built of dreams,” he continues.
“This is our moment to change the landscape of football in this country.”
    Support act
    Sergio Busquets makes an appearance.
“I am so happy to be here,” he reveals. His English is superb.
Meanwhile, an Apple TV camera has spotted Sergio Aguero in the crowd.
He’s here for the main event.
    Chapter and verse
“The next chapter of our story starts now,” Beckham proudly declares.
That’s after bigging up Sergio Busquets, who will be joining Messi on this crusade.
Don’t forget, Inter Miami are hopelessly bottom of their MLS conference and are unlikely to qualify for the play offs.
    It’s been emotional
David Beckham can’t hide his feelings on the Messi capture.
“Forgive me for feeling a bit emotional tonight,” he tells the crowd.
Is that a tear drop streaming down his face?
    No, it’s probably rain.
    Careful now!
Beckham and Mas take to the stage.
It is still raining, and it’s a hazardous runway they have to negotiate.
    Oops! Mas nearly slips!
Beckham begins… in Spanish. “Bueno,” he starts.
    Licence to thrill
One of the presenters on stage is urging fans to buy an Inter Miami licence plate.
But they only have one thing to say… or sing.
    “Messi, Messi, Messi.’
They are waiting (patiently) for their talisman.
    It’s getting heavier
Now we’re being treated to a wall of sound in the shape of techno.
Is this Inter Miami’s stadium or a South Beach hotspot, one asks?
    We’ll soon find out!
    When’s the unveiling!
    Kick in the pyrotechnics
It’s wild now at the DRV PNK.
Fireworks are going off and it’s a party atmosphere.
The fans are, unsurprisingly, lapping it up says The US Sun reporter Steve Brenner in the field.
    It. Is. Going. Off.
    Here we go!
    Lights down, light show incoming.
Messi’s image is flashed on the big screens around the stadium.
    Fans gasp.
    Becks fulfilling his TV duties
With Apple TV being host broadcasters, David Beckham is doing an interview with them pitchside.
Skirting across the sodden turf, he’s there suited and booted.
    Careful of those shoes, Becks.
    The commissioner is giving interviews
Don Garber is doing some press.
It’s a big day for the MLS Commissioner, welcoming an all-time great to US soccer fans.

    A clue to the entertainment
Marc Anthony has also arrived at the DRV PNK Stadium.
The singer was famous for his marriage to Jennifer Lopez.
    Will he be performing tonight?

    Busquets is here
Inter Miami new boy Sergio Busquets has also shown up.
Will it be a double unveiling?

    He’s here!
Lionel Messi has arrived on site.
He is flanked with wife Antonella and their kids, Thiago, 10, Mateo, 7 and Ciro, 5.

Lionel Messi unveiling LIVE – Inter Miami fans await arrival of MLS’ biggest star as David Beckham calls it a ‘dream’

LIONEL MESSI is set to be unveiled as an Inter Miami player today, with the Argentina superstar becoming the biggest star in MLS history.David Beckham has bent over backward to sign the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain icon, who won the World Cup with Argentina just eight months ago.
Inter Miami announced the arrival of Messi on Saturday and he will meet the fans at the DRV PNK Stadium alongside ex-Barca boss Gerardo Martino.

Stay up to date with all the latest from Lionel Messi’s unveiling…
    ‘OVERJOYED’
Lionel Messi will be available to play for Inter Miami against LIGA MX side Cruz Azul on 21 July in their opening match of Leagues Cup.
And it is not only him and David Beckham that cannot wait to see him in action.
MLS commissioner Don Garber said: “We are overjoyed that the greatest player in the world chose Inter Miami and Major League Soccer, and his decision is a testament to the momentum and energy behind our league and our sport in North America.
“We have no doubt that Lionel will show the world that MLS can be a league of choice for the best players in the game.
“We look forward to seeing his debut for Inter Miami in our Leagues Cup tournament later this month.”
    Credit: Getty
    ‘COULDN’T BE PROUDER’
INTER owner David Beckham has also been speaking about pulling off the huge coup.
The England and Man Utd legend said: “10 years ago, when I started my journey to build a new team in Miami, I said that I dreamed of bringing the greatest players in the world to this amazing city.
“[I wanted] players who shared the ambition I had when I joined LA Galaxy, to help grow football in the USA and to build a legacy for the next generation in this sport that we love so much.
“Today that dream came true. I couldn’t be prouder that a player of Leo’s calibre is joining our club, but I am also delighted to welcome a good friend, an amazing person and his beautiful family to join our Inter Miami community.
“The next phase of our adventure starts here, and I can’t wait to see Leo take to the pitch.”
    ‘VERY EXCITED’
Lionel Messi struggled to contain his emotions after officially joining MLS side Inter Miami on a deal that runs until the end of 2025.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, 36, left French champions Paris St-Germain last month.
And ahead of his official unveiling later, he said: “I’m very excited to start this next step in my career with Inter Miami and in the United States.
“This is a fantastic opportunity and together we will continue to build this beautiful project.
“The idea is to work together to achieve the objectives we set and I’m very eager to start helping here in my new home.”
Messi brings his wife and kids to Miami
The world’s biggest football star has brought his wife Antonella to Florida, along with their three sons.
She has known the Barcelona star since she was five years old as her cousin, Lucas Scaglia, was a childhood friend of his.
If Messi has a reputation of being shy, this was certainly not the case in his pursuit of Antonela, as he regularly visited her home from a young age, just to see her.
It is not known how long the pair have been together behind closed doors, but they went public with their relationship in 2008.
The bond between the couple was believed to have strengthened in 2007, when Messi flew back to Rosario to comfort Antonela after the death of her friend.
The pair have been inseparable ever since and celebrated on the pitch together with the three boys after the World Cup final in Qatar.

    ‘The dream becomes a reality’
David Beckham has finally got his man – and has been delighted to share it.
The Manchester United and Real Madrid legend has posted a picture alongside the ex-Barcelona man.
And Becks’ grin could hardly be wider.

    Last night’s Messi announcement
Inter Miami put together a slick ‘welcome to Miami’ video to announce Messi as their new player.
In the video a graffiti artist sprays his name in the Inter Miami font on a screen, before cutting to Messi with the city’s skyline behind him.

When is Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami debut?
Needless to say, he will NOT be making his US debut in in the MLS All Stars clash against Arsenal.
Instead, Messi will play for Inter Miami in their Leagues Cup clash against Mexican side Cruz Azul.
That takes place at the DRV PNK Stadium on July 22 at 1am UK / 8pm ET.
Mega contract – how much Messi is earning at Inter Miami
Lionel Messi’s new deal is worth $150million or £115m.
That equates to $60m a year and $1.1m a WEEK.
He gets his regular salary, a signing-on bonus and a share in the club.
Revenue-sharing agreements with Adidas and Apple have been negotiated as part of Messi’s Miami salary.
There really has never been anything like it in MLS history.
    Blink and you’ll Mess it
Hello and welcome to SunSport’s coverage of Lionel Messi’s unveiling from the DRV PNK Stadium in Miami. The MLS – and more importantly Inter Miami – have finally got their man.
David Beckham and the team have been trying relentlessly to get some top talent from Europe to the MLS, just as he did in 2007 when he moved to LA Galaxy.
And now, Messi joins the likes of Beckham, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney and Andrea Pirlo to make the move Stateside.
After playing for some of the most historic clubs in Europe, Messi has arrived at one of the MLS’ newest clubs.
Inter Miami only played their first match in 2018, but in that time they have been trying to woo the Argentina ace.
The timings have finally aligned, Messi arrives as a world champion and content that he has won every trophy that matters in the club and international game.
He is ready to be the latest name to add legitimacy and quality to the MLS’ growing reputation to go with its impressive crowds.

“I had my jab so easy and clean from round one. I was able to work everything off that. It wasn’t easy, he kept coming forward like the Terminator and was eating my punches.”
    Breaking news
AnEson Gib will fight King Kenny in the Kingpyn High Stakes men’s tournament final.
That bout will likely take place later this year.

    Kenny wins!
    Was there ever any doubt?
King Kenny wins it 50-44 on all three scorecards.
He takes his place in the final of Kingpyn with a brilliant performance.
    Round 5
It’s over. Whindersson has been put out of his misery.
Kenny has literally toyed with him for five rounds. A quite stunning performance.
The judges will make it official…
    Round 4
This is nothing more than a sparring session for Kenny at the moment.
He’s picking his shots and landing at will. Combinations, flurries, hooks, jabs. It’s all there for Kenny at the moment.
The crowd is silenced. Whindersson is trying everything and is having no joy.
One more round and it would have to be something very dramatic for Kenny not to win this.
    Round 3
Whindersson trying his hardest to get into this fight, but he just can’t get near Kenny.
The Watford man is in complete control and wins another round.
Kenny might be wearing Brazil colours, but his teammates are lapping it up in Argentina football shirts and a replica World Cup.
    Round 2
What a massive round for Kenny and Whindersson seemingly has no answers.
Kenny is walking him down and dominating.
The fans are trying to lift the Brazilian, but this is one way traffic.
    Whindersson down!
Whindersson is down! HUGE left hook!
So much for Kenny showboating but not hurting in round one.
Well he’s on fire here in round two and looking to finish Whindersson.
He and his fans are stunned.
    Round 1
Kenny puts on a show in round one.
Not sure how much he impacted or hurt Nunes really, but he certainly showed his showboating and flashiness.
Round one to Kenny for sure with his slick boxing on the outside. Whindersson yet to get going.
    Seconds out
The formalities are over, the fighters have had their final instructions.
We’re ready to roll in the main event of the evening.
    Electric atmosphere in Dublin.
    What an entrance
The roof just came off this place as Whindersson made his entrance.
Incredible noise in the arena. He rapped along to the words as well.
We’re all set for a cracker.
    Here we go
King Kenny is on his way to the ring, playing Brazilian music and wearing the Brazil colours on his robe.
He knows exactly what he’s doing in front of a pro-Brazilian crowd cheering on Whindersson.
    Main event
Who will AnEson Gib face in the Kingpyn High Stakes tournament final?
We’ll find out very shortly with Whindersson and Kenny set to make their way to the ring.
    Gib says
“I have all respect for Jarvis. Kenny, Whindersson I’m coming for you. Whoever wins I’ll see you in the final.
“People said I was underestimating him but he’s nothing I didn’t know. I smoked him for five rounds.”
    Gib wins!
It’s comprehensive and unanimous. AnEson Gib is into the final of the Kingpyn tournament.
    Very impressive.
    Round 5
And it’s over. We go to the scorecards.
Gib looks the happier man and for good reason. He took control of that bout in the second half.
We’ll see how the judges saw it in just a second.
    Round 4
Gib really stamping his authority now. He’s in the ascendancy here and Jarvis is getting left behind.
He’s being pushed back and worn down. One round to go and it looks like Jarvis needs to win it, if not get a knockdown.
    Round 3
Gib with some brilliant combinations that catch the eye and get a roar from the crowd in round three.
It’s good, but it’s few and far between. Jarvis hanging in with him through the rounds other than for a few Gib clashes.
    Round 2
Jarvis begins round two how he started round one and does a better job of maintaining his flow.
A much better showing from him and a close round. Very tough to score.
Cagey so far. Not many big shots thrown or landed.
    Round 1
Gib finishes the round very strong. He probably does enough to steal it.
Jarvis started very well but seemed to lose his way and his timing deserved him as the round went on.
Gib grew into it and was boxing very well towards the end of it.
    Seconds out
Gib vs Jarvis is underway in Dublin. The co-main event and first men’s semifinal.
A lot of this crowd are awaiting their Brazilian hero in the main event – Whindersson Nunes.
    Here we go then…
Jarvis is on his way to the ring with Living on a Prayer playing at the 3 Arena.
The first semifinal just moments away.
    Fury time?
Crosbie has called out Tommy Fury after that impressive win.
He said: “Step in here with me you little B*tch and I’ll slap the head off ya!”
Fury is closing in on a fight against KSI, but this one would certainly be interesting.
    It’s unanimous
Kiefer Crosbie wins! 50-45 on two cards and 48-45 on the other.
Not sure what the 48-45 score was about but it’s a unanimous win and deservedly so.
    Round 5
It’s over. The fighters put the bad blood behind them and hug in the ring.
We go to the scorecards but this one is surely going to Crosbie, even if he didn’t have a knockdown.
Disappointing night for Chalmers, especially after getting in the ring with Floyd Mayweather last time out.
But we wait for the scorecards.
