And United have a few winnable league games coming up in their pursuit of European football.
Erik ten Hag will likely see out the season now, too.
How many points will they claim from this next four?

    Copy linkCopiedReaction from Neil Custis
Bruno Fernandes ended the FA Cup semi-final a man bemused as to what he had been a part of.
No doubt knowing it would be he would have to try and explain it all again.
Rarely have a team slunk away from this stadium with a feeling of embarrassment having just reach an FA Cup Final.
The next time Fernandes turns up at the home of football he wants to be heading up those metal steps and picking up silverware.
Nothing less will do for the captain of Manchester United.
But he knows they have not got a hope of gaining revenge on this cross town rivals Manchester City if this is what they are going to deliver.

    Copy linkCopiedOh no, Onana
Andre Onana admits getting through today was a ‘mixed feeling’.
And he says he and his teammates will return to Wembley next month and WIN the trophy.
He was booked in the shootout – after being booked in normal time. But he WON’T be suspended for the showpiece final.
He told BBC: “It’s a mixed feeling. We went through, that’s why we came here.
“It was a tough game at the end. We were in control. After so many individual mistakes we conceded three goals. The most important thing is to win. We have to look forward to the coming games.
“Somehow we lost control of the game.
“We are Man Utd. We must win. We feel good, we feel happy to be in a final. We’ll come back here to win.
“The most important thing is the victory. We’re in the final, that’s what matters.”
    Copy linkCopiedLastly from Robins
On losing out on penalties and the historic afternoon, Robins concluded: “There’s always a bit of gamesmanship [in penalties]. We needed to score the five goals. We scored the five in the summer and missed the sixth and Luton went up. It feels like a kick in the teeth.
    “I’m really proud of them.
“We’ve just said to them they’ve put themselves right up there in the history of the football club. People will talk about this game for a long time.”
    Copy linkCopiedFinally from ETH
He says his side have a great chance to win the final against Manchester City, despite playing the best football team in the world.
He finished: “I want to win it. I’m sure we have a good chance to win this final, although we play the best team in the world.
“We do have a chance though. We showed that this season.
“This season has had many ups but also many downs. Winning the FA Cup doesn’t make it successful, we want to win more.
“We have been in three finals in two years, which is good, but we had a lot of setbacks this season.
“We’ve had a lot of injuries and hopefully those players can be back for the final. If we go with a squad who believe then we have a chance to win a trophy.”

    Copy linkCopiedRight mentality
Ten Hag would also praise his side’s mentality and said they have character which they showed…
He continued: “We can’t say this group doesn’t have the right mentality because they showed character today, but in the final part there was a lack of discipline.
“We have to keep the ball, keep making passes, go for goal and then also be strong in defence. It’s about communication and we have to improve on this.
“It was about mentality in that moment. You have a plan and have full confidence so I told them to stick to the plan.
“I had confidence we would win the shootout. Normally Casemiro scores, we train them very well.”
    Copy linkCopied’Resilience’
Erik ten Hag claims his side showed RESILIENCE to win the penalty shoot out.
And he called it a ‘strange game’ having thrown away a three-goal lead.
He told ITV: “It was an incredible game, a strange game too. We had total control for so long and then gave it away in the last part of the game. We did show resilience to win the penalty shootout.
“We had control for 75 minutes and have to give Coventry a compliment for what they did in the last 15 minutes.
“We have to improve. We talk a lot about this. First you have to put yourself in a winning position but then you have to take it over the line. In these moments we are making mistakes and not keeping our responsibilities.”
    Copy linkCopiedMore from Robins
The Coventry boss was gutted that VAR ruled out the club’s huge moment, adding: “You get to penalties and it’s a lottery. You don’t hold anything against anyone if they show the courage to take one in a cauldron.
“It’s a toe nail. Those lines are the bane of our life. You don’t get a chance often to go to an FA Cup final and we were really really close.
“We have to pick ourselves up because there’s a game on Wednesday.”

    Copy linkCopiedMark Robins reacts
The Coventry boss hailed his ‘incredible’ team for their comeback and admitted he ‘couldn’t be prouder’.
He said: “We conceded too many poor goals. We knew we had to make changes which we did at half-time. We spoke about not having regrets. We started to look more of a threat.
“To come back from 3-0 down is incredible. Some good quality football. We were really disappointed at the end.
“We hit the bar and had a goal disallowed. It was a really difficult game. We lose Tavares to injury and had to make another change.
“If you can attack them you can really hurt them. I can’t be prouder of them. They did fantastically well. I think we’ve made Coventry proud.

But how did SunSport view United’s players in the performance this afternoon.
Well, you can find out now!

    Copy linkCopiedBruno POTM
Bruno Fernandes was given player of the match this afternoon and admitted he thought Coventry’s ‘goal’ in extra time was offside when it happened.
And also said winning just the FA Cup doesn’t mean it’s been a successful season.
He told ITV: “When they scored a goal we thought it might be offside, we couldn’t tell from the front.
“We put ourselves in a difficult position and should have killed it earlier but we didn’t. We have to do so much better.”
“We’ll never be successful if just winning FA Cup.
“The standard of this club is much higher than what we have been doing. We have to do better in the league, the League Cup and in Europe.”
    Copy linkCopiedMatch report
Probably only Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United could manage to book a place in an FA Cup Final while hanging their heads in shame.
But while United eventually confirmed a second consecutive all-Manchester final in this competition, the way they chucked away a three-goal lead against Championship Coventry was extraordinary even by their standards of low farce.
And when Coventry’s Victor Torp netted in the 120th minute it looked like the most ridiculous comeback in Wembley history until VAR Thomas Bramall ruled it out for a marginal offside in the build-up.
Yet United came from behind in a nerve-shredding penalty shoot-out as Coventry skipper Ben Sheaf blazed his effort horribly off-target to send United through.
Mark Robins, who once saved Sir Alex Ferguson’s skin with a famous FA Cup goal, watched his Sky Blues roar back with three goals in the final 20 minutes – an Ellis Simms strike, a deflected Callum O’Hare effort and a controversial penalty converted by Haji Wright.
United were roundly booed by their own supporters at the end of normal time, as Coventry’s delirious supporters partied like it was 1987, when their club won the Cup in a classic final against Tottenham.

He told ITV (per BBC): “We found a way. We started the game really well and then conceded a sloppy goal. We were unfortunate to concede the second goal.
“I think the penalty was so hard but all credit to Coventry. They made it tough for us in the second half of extra time.
“It sums up our season, we had great control and played well for 60 minutes but then we conceded out of nothing.
“Then I don’t know, it seems like the world wanted Coventry to go on and do it. We showed great character to stick with it and it was important to win the shootout.”

    71. Well then…
It’s a good move down the right. O’Hare picks out Tavares on the Coventry right.
He looks up and picks out Simms in the middle with a cross. He’s virtually all alone, eight yards out. The ball is just behind him but he swings his right foot at it and powers it into the bottom corner.
It’s actually off his SHIN. But he won’t mind. Neither the 36,000 behind the goal who go berserk.

    70. One of those funny moments (except when it happens to you).
O’Hare collects the ball inside the box and after taking a touch, Maguire steps across and uses strength to push him off the ball for a United goal kick.
Rob Jones points for a goal kick and the fans behind the goal cheer hugely, thinking a penalty has been awarded.

Again, United deal with it well.

    59. A contrast in quality and it was shown there.
Coventry with a chance to get one back when a deep cross finds Wright. He takes his time, dithers on it and allows United to get back into a shape.
The move eventually breaks down after some slow play and it’s cleared to Garnacho who springs the counter.
Fernandes and Rashford involved before the former picks the ball up inside the box and on his left foot, he works some room and smashes low and hard at goal, sneaking in at the front post.

    52. United lose the ball cheaply on the edge of their own box and Coventry are pressing higher here.
The ball ricochets to Sheaf who snatches at a shot 25 yards from goal which rolls harmlessly wide.

    50. Fernandes lays it off to Rashford to strike from 25 yards out at a better angle but it’s blocked and Coventry clear.

He cuts in from the left when approaching the box and is brought down.
22 yards from goal but wide on the left. Probably too far left for a shot at goal.

    47. So very nearly three!
Fernandes picks the ball up on the left corner of the 18-yard box and works the ball onto his right foot.

Aston Villa 3 Bournemouth 1: Villans take huge step towards Champions League with comeback days after Lille heroics

VILLA’S shattered stars ended the day on their knees, exhausted following their heroics here and in Lille. But by full-time every Villa fan inside Villa Park was on their feet, roaring their appreciation of their weary wonders!Aston Villa go six points clear of Spurs after beating Bournemouth 3-1Credit: RexMoussa Diaby scored the winning goal for VillaCredit: ReutersTake a bow Unai Emery and his battling heroes, who summoned the strength to come from behind and snatch three crucial points to go six clear of Spurs.Things looked bleak for the Conference League semi-finalists when Dominic Solanke fired the Cherries in front from the penalty spot. But Morgan Rogers levelled in first-half stoppage-time to breathe new life into Emery’s men and Ollie Watkins and Leon Bailey finished Bournemouth off after the break. It means if Villa can beat Chelsea next Saturday they will open up a nine-point gap over Ange Postecoglou’s men, who face Arsenal the following day.Emery’s boys were always going to be weary and leggy following their 120 minutes plus penalties drama in Lille, which would have sucked the life out of most teams. So it was a smart move on the part of the club to change the first team coach’s usual route to Villa Park. This took it down Trinity Road where thousands of cheering Villa fans had converged to give their heroes a rowdy welcome – flares and all – to inject fresh life into those weary limbs.Once inside the ground those in Villa’s Holte End really did try to live up to the banner they proudly display at every home game.BEST FREE BET SIGN UP OFFERS off to a good start while there was still freshness in their limbs.Arsenal’s title chances are ‘100% gone’ according to club legend who savages ‘lazy’ Gunners after Aston Villa shockerMoussa Diaby set up Ollie Watkins whose shot was blocked by Illia Zabarnyi.John McGinn fired an angled effort well wide following a short corner from Leon Bailey. And the Jamaican wing king delivered a deliciously outstretched palm.Lloyd Kelly then picked out Dango Ouattara at the back post but the Burkina Faso international fired into the side netting.Bournemouth were now in the ascendancy and they took the lead just after the half hour mark – ironically in this week of all weeks – from the penalty spot.Kluivert engaged Matty Cash before slipping the ball to his left where Milos Kerkez was overlapping.Cash, Villa’s hero in Lille took the bait, dived in and sent the wide man tumbling. That left Dominic Solankje with one of the most unappealing jobs in football – trying to beat Emi Martinez from the spot. The Argentine was up to his usual tricks trying to psyche him out, whipping the Holte End into a frenzy. They responded by chanting their Martinez mantra over and over again.Fully three minutes had passed between the penalty being awarded and being taken. But to his credit Solanke showed nerves of steel to fire the ball to Martinez’s right, just high enough to evade his left glove.”You’re just a s**t Ollie Watkins,” jeered Villa fans.Cash tried to make up for his blunder with a rasping right footer which whistled just wide from 25 yards. Then Zabarnyi rode his luck with a blatant push on Watkins in the box which could easily have earned the striker a tit-for-tat penalty. But Villa summoned up one final push before the break and were rewarded with an equaliser.Bailey produced a stunning pass to Morgan Rogers with the outside of his right boot and the 21-year-old expertly chopped inside Adam Smith before lashing the ball high into the roof of the net.It was a stunning strike and it revitalised Villa who ended the half with McGinn and Tielemans bickering after the Belgian failed to deliver the ball into the middle before the half-time whistle blew.Villa’s tails were up now and after Watkins fired a couple of harmless efforts at Neto, they finally hit the front.Rogers played in Watkins who chopped inside Zabarnyi and rolled an inch-perfect pass across the face of goal for Diaby to side-foot past Neto from seven yards.Bailey then sent Watkins clear with a stunning 40 yard pass with the outside of his boot but the striker shot wide. However Villa grabbed a two-goal cushion when Diaby held off Max Aarons to feed Watkins who rounded Neto and Bailey made sure to poke the striker’s shot over the line.Emery punched the air over and over again in delight.Bournemouth were denied a late lifeline when Martinez beat out Semenyo’s shot and Enes Unal netted the rebound – but he was flagged for offside. But there are no signs of Villa flagging and they left the field to an ovation from their 12th man in the stands! BEST FREE BET SIGN UP OFFERS FOR UK BOOKMAKER More

CASINO SPECIAL – BEST CASINO WELCOME OFFERSFollow our live blog below…Goodnight from us
Thanks for tuning in with us for Fury’s long-awaited comeback.
It was a bit of a stroll, where the heavyweight blew away some cobwebs after a three-year absence.
But, he won points which is all that matters.
No shame in Dovbyshchenko’s performance, who can go back to Camden Town with his head high.
    It’s goodnight for now.
    Copy linkCopiedConfirmation of your winner
It really was nothing more of a sparring sessions for Hughie.
But he prevails after getting a good workout.

    Copy linkCopiedFury by decision
Well, the ref thought it was closer than we thought.
Fury wins it 59-56 by way of decision.
He lifts Dovbyshchenko’s hand in the air. The Ukrainian put up a good fight.
    Good workout, though, for Fury.
Copy linkCopiedIt went all six rounds
    Now to the judges’ scorecards.
    I mean, Fury walked it.
It will be interesting to see what the scores do.
Fairplay to Dovbyshchenko, he was worth his money.
    Copy linkCopiedShowboating
Dovbyshchenko does a little dance in the ring after hitting Fury with a good right.
Fury has hit a few shots at Dovbyshchenko and his opening up a little bit more.
It’s a grandstand finish in the final round.
Best round from him, despite getting a hit.
Copy linkCopiedNothing more than a workout
    Fury is strolling this.
He’s a class above Dovbyshchenko, that’s for sure.
This is a good workout, and all about getting some minutes in the ring.
    It’s a professional display.
    Copy linkCopiedEnd of Round 2
    Dovbyshchenko might fancy this.
He is standing up to the 6ft6in Fury, who is showing he’s a decent boxer with a good IQ.
End of round two and once again not much between them.
    Copy linkCopiedGood first round
Hughie Fury looks a little ring rusty, but in decent nick.
He’s thrown a few decent hits, his defence looked good.
Dovbyshchenko is standing up to it though.
Nothing to pick between them in the opener.
    Copy linkCopiedRing walks complete
It’s not quite Riyadh is it Rotherham?
But it’s baby steps for Fury on his return.
We’ve just done the ring walks, and we’re set to get underway.
By the way, Dovbyshchenko comes via Camden Town.
    Copy linkCopiedFury’s next
And here’s the tale of the tape.

    Copy linkCopiedThat was close
Referee Michael Alexander had it by just one single point.
It was scored 76-75, astonishingly, in Molloy’s favour.
    It was that close.
Molloy remains unbeaten, but he was given a hell of a scare.
    Copy linkCopiedWhat a final round
Toe-to-toe, both fighters showing incredible determination and spirit.
Molloy and Herrera have put on a showpiece.
What heart from the Mexican, what bottle from the Irishman.
It went all eight rounds, now it’s the judges who will decide.
    Copy linkCopiedHe’s weathered the storm
Molloy has shown a lot of character to weather the storm.
Somehow he’s still on his feet, slugging away.
There’s blood to the nose of Herrera.
A combo from Molloy followed by a right hand hurts the Mexican.
    Copy linkCopiedNo way
    Molloy is down!
    And he’s in trouble.
A persistent attack to Molley’s body from Herrera, and now the Irishman is flagging.
My gosh. Can he hold on in the sixth.
    Copy linkCopiedWaiting for his moment
You just get the feeling Molloy is getting ready to pull the trigger.
Fairplay to Herrara, the Mexican is doing all he can though.
Molloy is having to work for it, showing good defence.
    Another cracking show.
    Copy linkCopiedWorking the body
Molloy is skipping around the ring, working Herrara’s body.
    He’s quick, agile, and aggressive.
Looks a very decent prospect this Irishman.
We’re heading for the fourth round.
    Copy linkCopiedNext up
It’s the hotly tipped Kieran Molloy up next.
Here’s the tale of the tape.

    Copy linkCopiedAJ in his sights
One man who Hughie might want to fight, but would possibly be out of reach, is Anthony Joshua.
Back in 2023, the 6f6in cousin of Tyson called AJ out.
Hughie told Pro Boxing Fans: “I’d absolutely blitz him.
“They’re the fights I want. Joshua honestly wouldn’t stand a chance.
“He’s a complete stiff altogether. There’s nothing about him whatsoever. I think he’s a stiff and it couldn’t be an easier fight.”
    Copy linkCopiedResult
    Nicola Hopewell becomes the champ!
And she gets a huge from pal Ebanie Bridges, who has been by her side for all of it.
Judges scorecards seemed a bit wider than we thought.
    The scores were 96-94, 99-92, 97-94.
    Hmmm.
Copy linkCopiedIt’s gone to the judges
An explosive final 10th round saw both Hopewell and Ruegg go for it.
    Ruegg was so consistently persistant.
Hopewell might’ve technically been the better the boxer over the contest.
    Over to the judges.
    Copy linkCopiedClose contest
To be fair, this could be the fight of the night.
We’re going into the last round now, and there is nothing in this one.
Well done to both fighters – it’s been a contest and a half.
It might just come down to this last round.
    Copy linkCopiedNot the best record
Back to the main event, Kostiantyn Dovbyshchenko’s record isn’t the best.
26 fights, he’s lost 15 of them and won 10.
    There’s been a single draw.
You’d think Fury should walk this, wouldn’t you?
    Copy linkCopiedMight have been wrong
We’re into round five of 10 now.
Somehow Ruegg is holding on in there. She’s tough as anything.
Hopewell has a few cuts of her own, but is throwing the best combos.
    Where’s this going now?
    Copy linkCopiedMeanwhile…
Could someone turn the lights on at Rotherham’s Magna Centre?
You can’t see a thing outside of the ring, no reactions from the crowd, nothing.
    Is there anyone even there?
    Copy linkCopiedRound 2
And it’s already opening up between these two sluggers.
Ruegg is cut, Hopewell can smell blood (she can see it too).
Hopewell is dancing around the ring, and looks to have the upper hand.
    This won’t last long.
