Jack Grealish’s haircuts through the years, from spiky style as a kid to man bun at Villa and Alice band at Man City

STYLE icon Jack Grealish has transcended the world of football. The Man City ace, 27, is one of the game’s most fashionable – and boasts an ambassador role with Gucci to his name.
Jack Grealish’s haircuts are some of the most famous in footballCredit: Rex
His haircuts are just as famous as what he wears – with schoolboys and even grown men asking their barbers to cut their hair like Grealish.
But his hairdos have changed through the years – starting off from when he was a kid.
And as soon as he made it to the big time, they began to get even more elaborate as the playmaker became a global superstar.
Let SunSport take you on a journey through Grealish’s hairstyles through the years.
    Read more in football
    Mop-top
Adorably, Grealish as a school boy rocked a very ‘normal’ haircut.
The bowl cut, worn admirably by anyone in a Manchester band in the 90s, was his go-to during his formative years.
You can’t argue, he looked as cute as a button.
As a school boy, Grealish wore a Gallagher-esque mop top
    Spiky do
As football took over Grealish’s life, his haircuts got cooler.
    Most read in Football
And, clearly, he discovered gel – if this snap he uploaded on Instagram shows.
Again, this gives off 90s boyband vibes. It’s all very spiky.
Spiky hair became a trend for Grealish as he grew older
    The Hamsik look
Remember Slovakian midfielder Marek Hamsik who sported a very high haircut?
This from Grealish wasn’t far off from 2013 – when he first broke into the Villa side.
As the next style shows, he discovered he preferred it looking a little flatter.
High hair was all the rage for Grealish in 2013
    Extra-long slick back
As his Aston Villa career took off, his hair got bigger (and larger).
While the sides were shaved short, the top was more bouffant.
Gel slicked it back – giving an early Peaky Blinders idea to proceedings.
Coming through the ranks at Aston Villa, Grealish sported a slicked back look
    Alice band
David Beckham was an early pioneer of the Alice band.
Since then, we’ve seen Didier Drogba, Fernando Torres and even Gareth Bale wear them on the pitch.
Grealish is no different. When his hair is longer, he uses it to hold his hair follicles in place – at both Villa and currently club City.
Grealish has worn Alice bands at Man City on the pitchCredit: Richard Pelham / The Sun
    Man bun
As man buns go, this one was a little unconventional.
More a top knot, really, it took a short do and made it look a little more complex than it really is.
Again, we saw it at Villa in 2020 – with the shaved sides, a parting, and a hair bobble holding it all together.
In 2020, Grealish sported an interesting man bun
    Undercut
A recent favourite of Grealish’s – and one that England fans copied during the Euros.
It’s an undercut, with a bit of length on top, giving a degree of volume.
Arguably, it the haircut that best suits him – and one he always tends to go.
The undercut is the haircut that arguably best suits Grealish
    Curtains
Another retro-style, curtains were the big thing of yesteryear.
For Grealish, they had to make a comeback in 2021.
He grew his hair long and let it all fop out – adding some highlights for a bit of colour.
    Think Italian accountant.

    Going short
Recently, Grealish has enlisted the help of Ahmed Alsanawi – owner of A Star Barbers – who have a full list of footballers as clients – to style his bonce.
Back in February, he gave him the shortest haircut we’ve seen on the England midfielder since he was a youngster.

There’s even some fades thrown in there for good measure, giving a clean look.

Meet Kobbie Mainoo, 17, who won the FA Cup Youth Cup last season and looks set for shock Premier League debut

KOBBIE MAINOO has already been given his Manchester United debut and he could soon be in line for a first Premier League appearance. The youngster has been named amongst the substitutes on several occasions in the league and he played for the first time in United’s Carabao Cup win over Charlton.

Mainoo then came off the bench in last month’s 3-1 FA Cup win over Reading.
And behind the scenes at Carrington there is growing belief the talented 17-year-old could be the heartbeat of the club’s midfield for years to come.
The Stockport-born youngster was a key member of last season’s successful FA Youth Cup-winning side, and was rewarded with his first professional contract in May 2022.
This season he has continued to progress for the Red Devils Under-18’s and Under-21’s, following that up with a 60 minute senior cameo against Charlton and a further 17 minutes against Reading.

Erik ten Hag has been impressed and is now beginning to integrate the teenager into first-team more often.
Mainoo was part of the squad that went to Spain for a warm-weather training camp and friendlies matches during the World Cup break.

He was scouted by United aged nine and he worked his way through the youth ranks to establish himself as one of United’s biggest prospects.
In pre-season, United fans caught a glimpse of the playmaker in action against Altrincham.
BBC Manchester commentator Jonny Crowther called him “different class”.
Earlier this season, Mainoo scored twice in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Brighton for the Under-21 team.
While back in August, he had fans purring during a mercurial display against Carlisle in the EFL Trophy.
His vision, anticipation and tackling ability certainly caught the eye.
One fan wrote: “I can watch 17-year-old Kobbie Mainoo’s compilations all day. Man Utd have a player on their hands,” while another said: “Investing in Kobbie Mainoo stocks now.”
A third said: “I watched Kobbie Mainoo vs Carlisle United yesterday. Ten Hag has to include him in the first-team. This is not a joke.
“He’s a baller. All he needs is the physical strength and forget Frenkie De Jong. He can do the job simple.”

    Ten Hag has listened
The excitement around Mainoo has seen Ten Hag, known for giving youth a chance at Ajax, take a closer look at the player himself.
He is now a regular fixture in first-team training sessions.
The teenager was first named in a matchday squad for the 0-0 draw against Newcastle back in October.
And Ten Hag explained Mainoo, who has been capped by England’s Under-18 team, wasn’t there to just make up the numbers.
The Dutch boss told the club’s official website: “It’s not experience, they [young players] have to deliver.
“You are here to contribute to the team, to the team’s success, and that is why he is here.”

With Casemiro unavailable for United’s defeat at league leaders Arsenal, Kobbie Mainoo was also named on the bench for the huge Emirates game last month.
And it’s surely just a matter of time before he finally gets his first taste of Premier League action for the Red Devils.

Meet £6m England wonderkid Jimmy-Jay Morgan, 17, who Chelsea beat Man City and Arsenal to sign

Morgan, who was at Southampton, has joined Chelsea for £6m
But, the fleet-footed forward, 17, won’t be showcasing his skills on the south coast.
Instead, he could turn out for Chelsea – after joining the Blues in a £6million deal on the last day of the January transfer window.
Todd Boehly’s team reportedly beat Man City and Arsenal to the signing of the teenager.
So, what kind of player are they getting?

    Headline maker
Last year, Morgan scored 27 goals for the U16s – frightening defences with his pace, power and lethal finishing.
He was promoted to the U18s, where he scored 13 more.
This campaign, the wonderkid has added hold-up play to his game.
It hasn’t stopped him from scoring goals for fun, including six in 13 starts. But he has added five assists too that show he’s become a better team player.
    Most read in Football
Saints coach Louis Carey purred about the England U17 star after Morgan scored a hat-trick in the Premier League Cup – a competition for U21s.
““I know Jimmy gets the headlines and the match ball, he can finish and the range of finishes is at the level we probably haven’t seen coming through the system for many years,” Carey said after Southampton brushed aside Birmingham 4-0.
“That’s a huge positive, but when you look at the goals it’s a set-play that’s worked on, him pressing or Dom Ballard making incredible runs to take away defenders, and then the quality from the boys to find the pass, effort that allows his goals to come.
“But at the end of it you need someone like Jimmy to finish, and as I said I think he’s one of the best I’ve seen in my time here.”

    Contract rebel
Morgan had just 18-months left of his contract, before Chelsea swooped.
After he turned down a deal the week before the Blues came in for him, manager Nathan Jones hoped he would make the “right choices” in his career.
Ahead of the FA Cup tie against Blackpool, Jones said: “Jimmy is a fantastic player with a bright future if he picks the right choices and the people that are working with him handle him well and if we work him in training and develop him into the right level.”
However, he was snubbed from the match day squad, which Jones had explained the reasons for before.
“If it’s right for us tomorrow to put a youngster in, we’ll do it. What we won’t do is put anyone in gratuitously,” he said.
Morgan left Southampton without making a first team appearance
Big things are expected from Morgan
“They have to earn it, they have to be ready. When they do and they get their opportunities, we’d like them to take it, so we’ll see.”
Sadly for Southampton fans, they didn’t get the chance to see Morgan in action.

As falls from grace go, this one was spectacular. In 1993, Marseille beat AC Milan to win the European Cup.
However, a year later they were relegated to Ligue 2 after several Valenciennes players claimed they were bribed.
Owner Bernard Tapie went to jail for his involvement, while the club were stripped of their Ligue 1 title win from 1991-92.

Juventus were embroiled in the biggest scandal Italian football has ever seen, known as Calciopoli.
It centred around influencing refereeing decisions – and they weren’t the only ones, with AC Milan, Fiorentina and Lazio also involved.
Juventus were punished the hardest – and were relegated to Serie B, which they would start their campaign on minus nine points.
The other three had their Serie A status preserved – but were hit with whopping 30-point deductions.

    Juventus again
And you would think they would try and keep their noses clean.
This season, Juventus were accused of potentially inflating player values to balance the club’s books when carrying out transfers.
They were slapped with a 15-point deduction, which has sent them spiralling out of the Champions League places and into mid-table.
What knock-on effect that has for next season remains to be seen.

Six wonderkids of South American football heading to Europe’s top clubs soon, like Andrey Santos and Gino Infantino

ENZO Fernandez is the most high profile – and by far the most expensive – of the new Premier League input of South American central midfielders. It is an interesting trend. Fernandez shone brightly in his brief spell with Benfica – one of the explanations for the size of the price tag. But he is something of an exception.

While Brazil’s Bruno Guimaraes has been a hit at Newcastle UtdCredit: Getty
Many central midfielders from South America have found it tough to adapt to top class European football, where the game is so much faster and there is less time to decide what to do with the ball.
Even Bruno Guimaraes, such an important part of the Newcastle challenge, had some difficult times settling in at Lyon.
Other big Brazilian hopes, such as Arthur and Mathias Henrique, have yet to live up to expectations.
A few years back there was plenty of hype around Lucas Silva, a league winner in Brazil with Cruzeiro and seen as a Xabi Alonso of the future.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
Real Madrid got nothing from him though, and there was precious little in Marseilles either. All but forgotten, the player moved back to Brazil.
It is interesting, then, to see that Premier League clubs have been willing to take the risk.
From Argentina Carlos Alcaraz has joined Southampton and Mexi Perrone has gone to Manchester City.
From Brazil, Danilo has joined Nottingham Forest, Joao Gomes has gone to Wolves and Chelsea have invested in Andrey Santos.
    Most read in Football
These are the future stars of South America.
    Andre, Fluminense
It could be that the best player in South America is still at home.
Andre of Fluminense was one of the stand outs of the last Brazilian season, helping balance out an attack minded side.
He made the team of the year in the opinion of most media organisations and led the statistics in terms of passes, tackles and interceptions.
He came closer than the others to a place in Brazil’s World Cup squad, and he could have moved in this window.
He opted to stay – in the hope that, at 21, he can consolidate himself still further this year, and he will certainly be one to watch during the next domestic campaign and in South America’s Champions League, the Copa Libertadores.
Andre of Fluminense was the best player in Brazil last termCredit: Getty
    Gino Infantino, Rosario Central
In Colombia, the South American Under-20 Championships is currently in full force.
A couple of the recent acquisitions have been in action, including Perrone who showed some bright touches, but disappointed along with most of his colleagues in an Argentina side that lost three of its four group matches and crashed out early.
However, another central midfielder, the left footed Gino Infantino of Rosario Central was one of the more interesting players on show.
An attacking player – the 19-year-old trialled at Real Madrid when he was a youth and trained with Villarreal, before settling in Argentina.

    Andrey Santos, Chelsea
Andre Santos, meanwhile, has done extremely well, especially considering that his professional experience is restricted to Brazil’s second division for Vasco de Gama.
Strongly built, he is a midfield powerhouse, organising the play from the back, breaking up the play in the middle and always ready for a surge on goal.
He has scored five times in the competition – and has shown why Chelsea paid £18million for him in January.
The Blues may have pulled off a masterstroke signing the 18-year-old before he impressed in Colombia.

    Marlon Gomes, Vasco de Gama
Alongside him, former Vasco da Gama team-mate Marlon Gomes, 19, is a mobile and intelligent talent who is quick to spot a passing opportunity.
In his quiet way, he too has been one of the stars of the competition.
Gomes has represented Brazil at U16 level and U20.
While he has also appeared 18 times for his club in Brazil’s second tier.

    Fabricio Diaz, Liverpool Montevideo
Uruguay captain Diaz, 20, has stamped his authority on proceedings.
Already a well established player with Liverpool – the Uruguayan version – he takes responsibility for running the game from the centre of the field.
His right foot is a subtle weapon, and he is a consistent threat from set pieces.
Like Santos he too has five goals in six games in the U20 South American Championships.
And he’s not afraid to put his foot in – earning three yellow cards in the tournament so far.

    Gustavo Puerta, Bayer Leverkusen
Colombia’s captain Gustavo Puerta, 19, carries out a similar role in a more gut busting manner.
He, too, is the organiser and leader, with a rocket in his right boot that has chalked up two sensational long range goals.
And he, like Diaz, Infantino and Marlon Gomes, is a name to look out for in future transfer windows.

Man Utd star Rashford’s goal celebration is spreading across the world of sport – but what does ‘the point’ mean?

IT is a sight we are seeing the plenty of this season. The moment in-form Man Utd forward Marcus Rashford scores for his club, he runs towards the crowd and points with his index finger to his temple.

The England star, 25, is going through a real renaissance – and has scored 18 goals across all competitions.
His most recent – a stunning solo effort against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup semi-final first leg – helped the Red Devils reach the final of the competition.
Again, he pulled out that famous celebration that has seemingly caught on in the sporting world and inspired others to follow Rashford’s lead.
    But, what does it mean?
    read more Man Utd news
    Mental health
No one knows entirely for sure.
However, popular opinion believes by pointing to his mind – Rashford is highlighting mental health.
The free school dinners hero has been open about his battles mentally – admitting it hindered him during the 2021-22 season.
He told Sky Sports after scoring against West Ham in October: “”I was struggling at times with more mental things.
    Most read in Football
“It wasn’t really my own performance but other things off the pitch. That’s the biggest difference from last season.
“Too often last season, I wasn’t in the right headspace for games. I wasn’t surprised by some of the stuff that was happening.”
That goal against the Hammers was his 100th for United – and how he has continued in this rich vein of form shows he is over mental woes.
Another theory is Rashford has regularly suffered with the noise and pressure leading the line at Old Trafford.
Closing his eyes while pointing to his head could also be about shutting out external distractions and unwanted criticism.
This allows him to do what he does best; score goals.

    It’s catching
Rashford’s temple point is trending in football, with many stars of the beautiful game themselves have adopted it.
Three Lions team-mate Bukayo Saka copied the celebration against United after scoring for Arsenal – in the same game Rashford also found the net and pointed to his skull.
Bayern Munich superstar Joshua Kimmich followed suit, following a dramatic late strike against Cologne.
Chesterfield’s Armando Dobra also copied Rashford’s move in a FA Cup third round tie against West Brom.

Upon winning his 10th Australian Open, and 22nd Grand Slam title, tennis superstar Novak Djokovic pointed towards the side of his head.
And when England and Sussex fast bowler Jofra Archer, a massive Man Utd fan, got a wicket in South Africa’s SA20 competition – he did the same.
    Is it pioneering?
Although it appears to have been a current trend – there’s argument online that it wasn’t even Rashford who invented the celebration.
While you can’t argue he has inspired others in recent times, these stars will lay claim to have been more pioneering.
Nicklas Bendtner of Arsenal was seen drowning out the haters in a goal celebration similar that goes back as far as 2011.

Either way, now it’s crossed over to other sports – expect to see more sports stars embrace the point to the temple celebration. More

This unkempt, bushy beard shows of a bit of grey and hints at Captain Birdseye.
SunSport says: Unkempt, and a nod to the packaging on the fish fingers we loved as kids, it definitely accentuates Keane’s masculinity. But, it is a little untidy.
    Beard Rating : 7/10

It’s a handlebar tasche that wouldn’t have looked out of place in the wild west, or the Village People.

The ex-Red Devils captain showed he wasn’t afraid to experiment with this facial style.
SunSport says: Very few men can pull off this type of tasche – and sadly, for us at least, Keane isn’t one of them.

    Clean-cut
There’s no doubt about it, when Keane goes for a full shave it knocks the years off.
Here, on duty for Sky Sports, he goes hirsute. But does he look better with a bit of stubble?
SunSport says: Oddly enough, having absolutely no facial hair on Keane’s face looks a bit strange now, even if he does look younger.
    Beard rating: 5/10

    Billy Connolly
As comedians go, none have been funnier than Billy Connolly.
Fans on Twitter went wild when Keane showed off a moustache and soul patch combo akin to the Big Yin during ITV’s World Cup coverage in Qatar.
SunSport says: As funny as Keane can be when it comes to his pundit work, leave the comedy tasche and stork to the professionals.
    Beard rating: 2/10
Is it Roy Keane or Billy Connolly?
    The Goat-ee
Keane bossed the midfield when he played for United in the nineties and noughties.
But, as he lined up for a Champions League game against Fiorentina in 1999, he showed off an impressive goatee that must have inspired Ricky Gervais when it came to David Brent and The Office.
SunSport says: A goatee that has outgrown the rest of the beard takes effort and grooming – and Keane has pulled it off here.
    Beard rating: 8/10

    Hipster
Roy sometimes like to keep his beard, but has it groomed and clipped to keep it under control.
However he doesn’t seem the type to splash out on hipster paraphernalia like beard shampoo, and balm.
SunSport says: Gives Roy a rugged look, without looking like a gnarly old sea dog.

    Designer stubble
It’s the beard choice for many an action hero – think Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger – who all rocked designer stubble.
Keane does it with some aplomb – signing autographs for fans and getting a kiss from a female admirer.
