The highest paid footballers in Saudi Arabia, after Jordan Henderson completes his £12million move to Al Ettifaq

THE Saudi Pro League now boasts the biggest salaries in world football – with the temptation to sign up for a life in the Middle East more tempting than ever.Jordan Henderson is the latest big name to swap the Premier League for a new adventure with Al-Ettifaq.

While Riyad Mahrez has just completed a £30million move from Manchester City to Al-Ahli.
They will join Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante and more in what’s becoming the fastest growing league in world football.
Although it appears Kylian Mbappe won’t be joining the European exodus, after reportedly snubbing a staggering £605m-per-year offer.
But, where do they rank in the top earners? SunSport has rounded up the highest paid footballers in the Saudi league to date and how much they earn per week.

    10. Seko Fofana, £250k
At just 28, Fofana is in his prime.
He was linked with a move to Arsenal, but he will be plying his trade alongside Ronaldo at Al-Nassr.
His club Lens had qualified for the Champions League, but it wasn’t enough to convince him to stay in France.
    9. Ruben Neves, £288k
Brutally-honest Neves was a £47m signing by Al-Hilal – leaving Wolves after six years.
    Most read in Football
His eye-watering salary will set him and his family up for life, as he explained.
Neves said: “The main factor was my family and the chance to give them the life I have always dreamt of for them – that was the biggest reason for me to not have any doubts.
“I have three kids and a lovely wife, and I need to take care of them, that is the biggest trophy in my career.”

    8. Roberto Firmino, £326k
Back in June, fan favourite ‘Bobby’ Firmino decided to leave the Reds when his contract expired.
He fielded several offers, but a deal at Al-Ahli was too good to turn down.
The 31-year-old won the Premier League title and Champions League with Liverpool.

    7. Marcelo Brozovic, £403k
Like Firmino, Champions League finalist Brozovic had a plenty of options, including Juventus.
But the former Inter Milan midfielder, 30, snubbed a Serie A stay for an opportunity at Al-Nassr.
He will link up with Ronaldo and Fofana as the Saudi club aim to improve on a second-placed finish.

    6. Kalidou Koulibaly, £576k
Koulibaly’s Chelsea nightmare came to an end last month when he signed for Al-Hilal in a £20m deal.
The 32-year-old failed to live up to the hype at Stamford Bridge, so will welcome a change.
    £30m-per-year won’t hurt.

    5. Jordan Henderson, £692k
England international Henderson has penned a three-year deal with Al-Ettifaq.
He will link up with Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, who will manage the club.
His £692,000-per-week salary makes him the highest-paid British player in the world.

    4. Riyad Mahrez, £750k
At 32, the former Leicester man’s final contract would have to be one that sets him up for life.
He said his goodbyes to Man City – signing for Al-Ahli.
Mahrez will be playing alongside former Chelsea keeper Edouard Mendy, who also made the move to Saudi – but doesn’t make the top 10.

    3. N’golo Kante, £1.6m
Like Mahrez, this is one final payday for Kante – not that he was ever money-motivated.
After all, this is a man who drove a second-hand Mini Cooper for years during his time in the Premier League.
He will join Karim Benzema and Jota at Al-Ittihad, where he will be paid an astonishing figure considering his recent injury-plagued seasons.

    2. Karim Benzema, £3.3m
The current Ballon d’Or holder was always going to command a massive fee.
And it was obvious a staggering amount would be needed to prise Benzema away from Real Madrid.
He won five Champions League titles at Los Blancos, but a new challenge was too much to resist.
Surely he will add a few more Bugatti’s to his car collection with that money.

    1. Cristiano Ronaldo, £3.4m
The pioneer and poster boy for the Saudi Pro League.
Who knew when CR7 would move to Al Nassr from Man Utd in January, after kicking up an almighty fuss and falling out with Erik ten Hag, that the world’s biggest names would follow him?

Meet Tottenham two biggest chiefs Bryan Glinton and Katie Booth who have replaced billionaire Joe Lewis

BAHAMAS-BASED lawyer Bryan Glinton and British-born asset manager Katie Booth are the big chiefs at Tottenham… but you’ve probably never heard of them. The Spurs ownership model is a complicated one.
Joe Lewis, who has been charged with insider trading, no longer has an active role at TottenhamCredit: Getty
Joe Lewis, 86, who has been charged with insider trading by American authorities, has family members who are part of the Lewis Family Trusts that own 70.12 per cent of ENIC – the company that owns 86.58 per cent of Spurs.
The majority stake in the club, owned by ENIC Sports Inc, is registered in the Bahamas, but it is split
Since last October, Lewis ceased to be a “person of significant control” and no longer has an active role.
His stake was shared between two associates, Miami born Bryan Glinton, a Bahamas-based longstanding legal adviser to Lewis’ Tavistock group, and British-born asset manager Katie Booth.
    Read more Tottenham news
They now have the same powers Lewis held at the club and have the “right to appoint and remove directors with control over the trustees of a trust”.
    But who are the pair?
    Bryan Glinton
Born in Miami, Florida – Glinton now resides in Nassau Bahamas.
He is a founding partner of law firm Glinton Sweeting O’Brien, which he founded in 2005.
    Most read in Football
He is a legal advisor to Lewis’ private investment company Tavistock Group and the Albany Resort development – a 600-acre oceanside luxury resort that drew investment from Tiger Woods and singer Justin Timberlake.
According to his website, he ‘specialises in corporate law, acting for institutional investors, developers, financial institutions, international law firms and accounting firms on mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring and financial services.’
Previously, he worked in the US for 10 years where he worked as a financial services lawyer specialising in corporate tax, banking and securities.
In his current role, he advises corporations and private individuals on the best ways of launching projects in The Bahamas, which is how he could have met Lewis.
Interestingly, there’s not a mention of Spurs in his online bio, nor sports club expertise.

    Katie Booth
British-born asset manager Booth is equally as mysterious.
A businesswoman of some repute, she is also found in the Bahamas.
According to her bio, she has managed the consolidation, preservation and succession of the assets of some of the world’swealthiest entrepreneurs. Again, could be where her relationship with Lewis began.
Booth initially was a practicing private client lawyer, before she became a senior director at MeesPierson, NM Rothschildand Butterfield Bank.
In 2011, she branched out on her own with the launch of her own private wealth consultancy, which now operates from the Bahamas.
Her Amber Trust company supported single family offices, meaning she served ultra-affluent companies.
A link to Spurs has not previously been publicised.

Where does this leave Daniel Levy?
As for Daniel Levy, his official title is chairman.
Levy formed a business relationship with Lewis in ENIC International Ltd and became its managing director in 1995.
Thanks to him, ENIC became a sports, entertainment and media company.
In terms of the ownership model at Spurs, Levy has the remaining 29.88 per cent of the ENIC stake along with “certain members of his family”, again, via a discretionary trust.

That leaves 13.42 per cent owned by “small shareholders”.
As of 2023, Levy is the highest paid chairman in the Premier League earning around £3.2million-per-year, according to accountancy of football expert Kieran Maguire.

QPR boss Gareth Ainsworth reveals music was his first love, as his band Cold Blooded Hearts release their debut album

WHEN Gareth Ainsworth was a youngster, his dad handed him a cassette of The Who’s famous rock opera Tommy. That album would kick-start a love affair of music, an early obsession with The Doors and Jim Morrison, a passion for LA hair metal of the 1980s to later forming the band, The Cold Blooded Hearts.
QPR boss Gareth Ainsworth’s first love was music, not football
Now, Ainsworth and his band The Cold Blooded Hearts have released their debut albumCredit: Al Stuart
It seems like a side note Ainsworth would go on to become a Premier League footballer and a one-time second longest-serving manager in the EFL during his Wycombe Wanderers tenure that lasted 12 years, before he move to QPR back in February.
Football gave him a comfortable living. But it is music that came first and became a lifelong dream.
His mother Christine was a professional singer who passed on her love of performing to her self-confessed ‘extrovert’ son and taught him how to sing using his diaphragm.
While father Bill, a big Jimi Hendrix fan, inspired a young Gareth to listen to 60s and 70s classic rock and set his son on his way to developing his own musical tastes.
    Read more football news
“I think mum was the wild one,” Ainsworth, 50, tells SunSport in the manager’s office at QPR’s impressive new training ground near Heathrow Airport.
“She was the one who influenced me to have that bit of edginess. I’ve always loved that sense of just being a little bit out control and different.”
Gareth is celebrating the release of The Cold Blooded Hearts’ debut album, The Cold Light Of Day.
His is not wearing his lucky red snakeskin leather boots that have been seen on the sidelines at Loftus Road, and differentiate him from every other manager in the country.
    Most read in Football
Instead, he is in sporting attire for our meeting to discuss how he became a Premier League footballer instead of a rock star, which seemed more likely growing up in Blackburn, Lancashire.
“It was music that came first for me,” he says.
“I was a late developer and didn’t get into my school football team until I was about 13.
“By that time I was already in the school choir performing solos and appearing in drama class productions.
“But I was sporty and I developed very fast. I ended up signing for Blackburn when I was 16 and music took a back-burner as I began making a career out of football.”
In 1998, Gareth joined Premier League club Wimbledon, where he would meet a kindred spirit in ex-Norway international Trond Andersen.
The pair bonded over Guns N’ Roses and would soon jam together. He had rekindled his love for rock and roll.
“He played the guitar and we connected really well,” Ainsworth recalls.
“We formed a band with the groundsman Chris Perry, who was in a prog-rock group in the 70s called Jericho, called ourselves APA, and wrote a few songs.
“That reignited the fire in me. Music was back and it was here to stay.”
Rocker Ainsworth grew up in a musical family and loved drama at schoolCredit: Al Stuart
The Doors singer Jim Morrison was Ainsworth’s idol and he wore leather trousers like his hero
Ainsworth and Andersen would play gigs, and were joined by their supportive team-mates as they belted out covers from bands like Kings of Leon.
That newfound release gave Gareth the confidence to express himself through fashion, and he became famous for his outfits among his peers.
He reveals: “We used to go on end of season trips to places like Ayia Napa in Cyprus, and there would be other players from different football clubs there.
“I would wear my leather trousers all week and not take them off! I was known as that guy.
“I didn’t go for the tan, I went for a good time and there was definitely a Jim Morrison influence in what I wore. But it was nice to have an identity.”
Gareth lives in band T-shirts and ripped jeans, which led to one hilarious exchange with a former manager during his playing days.
He remembers: “One particular coach came up to me once and asked, ‘Who’s that on your T-shirt? Is that Lady Diana?’ It was Debbie Harry of Blondie!”
But was his rock persona that led to an ex-QPR coach question the rocker’s professionalism.
“I remember Ian Holloway pulling me after a poor game at Plymouth,” he explains.
“He said to me, ‘Were you gigging the other night?’ And I could see he was probably thinking this guy is out singing the night before a game.
The Cold Blooded Hearts were formed in 2015Credit: Al Stuart
Ainsworth starring for QPR as a player
“And I can say I never did that. I never jeopardised my career by doing something like that.”
Nor was Gareth influenced by the sex, drugs and rock and roll lifestyle some of his idols craved.
“I can thank my football career for keeping away from that kind of thing,” he divulges.
“I like a Jack and Coke, but I was a professional athlete and would never have thought about taking drugs.
“My drug was playing football, training hard and being super professional.”
In the early 2000s, Gareth auditioned incognito to be a singer in a band who advertised for a frontman in Loot magazine.
He passed the audition with flying colours, with his bandmates unaware of his footballer status as he bellowed out ZZ Top’s ‘Legs’.
“I would say it’s one of the best moments of my music career – because they chose me for my singing talent and not because I was a footballer.
“I was completely unrecognised and that gave me the belief that I could do this after football.
“We formed the band Dog Chewed The Handle, which is where I met guitarist and songwriter Lee-Van Sergeant, who has been in various bands with me for 20 years now.
Gareth and his band are influenced by 80s LA rockersCredit: Al Stuart
Management wasn’t something Ainsworth envisaged as his playing career wound down
“I really saw myself going down that route, with my life in football ending and a new start in music beginning.”
Fate would take Gareth in a different direction. In 2012, he was handed the reigns at Wycombe Wanderers in a player manager role.
“That was a surprise for me,” Ainsworth tells us.
“I had a taste of coaching at QPR as a caretaker manager (in 2009), I touched on doing my B Licence, and thought I would do a couple of years at Wycombe as a player, as my career was winding down.
“But I got offered the job and took on the challenge. Little did I know that I would be there for 10 years!”
In 2015, Ainsworth formed The Cold Blooded Hearts alongside pal Sergeant, with drummer Luke ‘Chalky’ Sergeant and bass guitarist Ron Campbell completing the line-up.
A year later, independent record label Cherry Red Records began sponsoring Wycombe. It was a perfect marriage and called for a collaboration.
After hearing the band’s songs, managing director Adam Velasco offered them a record deal. The fruits of that relationship is the debut album, The Cold Light Of Day.
It takes influence from bands including Guns N’Roses, The Clash and Dead Kennedys and is produced by the legendary Geoff Downes, former keyboardist of YES and The Buggles.

This is not a novelty record. Forget Gazza’s Fog On The Tyne or any ghastly FA Cup final number, this is the real deal.
But Gareth admits he had plenty of fears ahead of the album’s release with how it is perceived.
“People will probably look at this and go, ‘He’s made it at football and just because he’s got a bit of a name he can bring an album out.’
“That couldn’t be further from the truth. This is my first love. I’m a musician who became a football manager.
“Footballers have been battered when they have tried to bring music out.
“But many of those songs were brought out because of who they were as players.
“I’ll admit I’ve had doors opened for me because of football, but it’s been an absolute desire for me to release music for as long as I can remember.

“It’s really a dream come true. I just hope that people give it a chance and it does well for Cherry Red Records, who pinned their faith on us.”

Inside the glam lifestyle of pals Caitlin Foord and Katie McCabe after Ireland’s star’s ex snubs World Cup handshake

IT’S the talk of the Women’s World Cup so far. Before Australia and Ireland went head-to-head, the players shook hands.

Ireland’s Ruesha Littlejohn completely ignored Foord when they shook hands before their World Cup clash
All except Caitlin Foord and Ruesha Littlejohn, with the Irish defender snubbing her Aussie counterpart in the run up to kick off.
Fans suggested the snub – reminiscent of the incident between John Terry and Wayne Bridge – may have been motivated by Littlejohn’s split from long-term partner and Ireland captain Katie McCabe, 27.
They separated after more than seven years together shortly before the World Cup – as confirmed by McCabe on the UK’s Player Tribune.
According to the Daily Mail, McCabe and Foord – who play for Women’s Super League giants Arsenal – are good friends off the field.

And, along with their Gooner pals, they live a glam lifestyle.
    The break-up
Littlejohn and McCabe began dating in 2016, although they didn’t go public with their romance until 2019.
Together, they took part in campaigns designed to help young people who struggle with their sexuality.
However, earlier this week McCabe wrote a piece about life as an Ireland international.

She discussed the moment former coach Colin Bell named her Irish captain.
In her quotes she referred to missing a call from Bell when she was with “my partner at the time”.
The cat was out the bag. Littlejohn and McCabe were no more and one of Ireland’s most recognised couples was no more.

    Best friends
Foord and McCabe are team-mates at Arsenal and reportedly best friends.
The pair regularly enjoy each other’s company, seen together on the pitch celebrating goals and off the field enjoying a footballer’s lifestyle.
Foord, herself, is recently single having split with Swiss midfielder and Arsenal teammate Lia Walti.
However, The Sun does not suggest the Aussie forward had anything to do with McCabe and Littlejohn’s break-up.

    Ibiza uncovered
Although we don’t know when they split, McCabe hasn’t wasted any time in enjoying the single life.
Last month, she joined Foord on a sun-drenched holiday to Ibiza, along with ex-Gunners star Jordan Nobbs.
Ironically, Nobbs also plays for Aston Villa with McCabe’s ex, Littlejohn.
They rented a stunning villa that boasted its own swimming pool, where they topped up their tans on surrounding deck chairs.
And they dropped into Ushuaia, where they enjoyed DJ’s including Andrea Oliva and Nic Fanciulli.
McCabe, Foord and Nobbs posed for selfies in front of the stage as they lapped up their party surroundings.
While they also made time for a beach day, showing off their athletic physiques and bikini bodies.
The holiday drew plenty of comments, including ex-Arsenal keeper Mat Ryan.

Speaking about the Ibiza trip he joked: “A photo or two didn’t make the cut 🙈😂”.
Amusingly, Foord replied to his comment: “@matyryan didn’t wanna break the internet with that one😅”.
