      Nine most explosive F1 title-deciding finales including Schumacher driving on two wheels ahead of Hamilton vs Verstappen

      It promises to be the most exciting F1 race in years, with the winner taking all.
      But we’ve seen explosive title-deciding finales in the past that have had motorsport fans on the edge of their seats.
      Here’s nine of the best that have gone down in history.
      Juan Manuel Fangio, 1956
      Monza was the venue for the final race of the 1956 season.
      Three drivers were in contention for the tile, Ferrari’s Fangio and Peter Collins, as well as Maserati’s Jean Behra.
      Behra was forced to retire, while it looked dicey for Fangio when a broken steering arm forced him into the pits.
      However, in an incredible moment of sportsmanship Collins gave him his car to finish second and claim the crown.

      John Surtees, 1964
      Again, it boiled down to the final race – this time in the heat of Mexico City.
      British drivers Surtees, of Ferrari,  BRM’s Graham Hill and Lotus’ Jim Clark were all vying for the World Championship.
      Clark led for 63 of 65 laps until his engine failed on the final lap.
      Hill could have been champion, if Lorenzo Bandini hadn’t driven into the back of him and dropped out the points places.
      Surtees, in the end, got through to finish second and pip Hill by one point in the standings.

      Emerson Fittipaldi, 1974
      This was the last and only other time two drivers have been level pegging on points going into the final race in the World Championship.
      However, it wasn’t quite the Grand Prix at Watkins Glen with a damper problem meaning Fittipaldi’s rival  Clay Regazzoni finished in 11th.
      The Brazilian finished fourth, winning his second title by three points.
      However, the win was overshadowed by the fatal crash of Austrian racer Helmuth Koinigg.

      James Hunt, 1976
      So good, and involving two great personalities, it made the astonishing film Rush.
      Niki Lauda and James Hunt fought it out at the 1976 Japanese Grand Prix in a thrilling climax to the season.
      Lauda, who two months earlier had a suffered the horror fiery crash at the German Grand Prix, retired on lap two because of the horrific weather conditions.
      Hunt, however, prevailed in the rain and managed to finish third to get the four points he needed to be champion.

      Michael Schumacher, 1994
      It was a move that looked like it belonged in an action movie.
      Adelaide was the setting for Britian’s Damon Hill and Michael Schumacher to lock horns and even cars.
      The German was leading when he turned sharply at the East Terrace corner on lap 36.
      He then pulled sharply across Hill, who tried to work his way up the inside as they approached the next corner.
      Schumacher was knocked onto two wheels and out the race. However, Hill’s suspension forced him out allowing him to win over his Williams rival by one point.

      Jacques Villeneuve, 1997
      Another unsavoury incident involving Schumacher that saw him disqualified from the year’s drivers’ standings.
      Williams’ Villeneuve was behind the Ferrari driver by one single point as they headed to Jerez.
      On lap 48, Villeneuve spotted Schumacher had left the door open for him to pass, but he sharply turned into him – ricocheting off the Williams car and into the gravel.

      Lewis Hamilton, 2008
      The most extraordinary final lap in Hamilton’s driving career.
      Lewis went to the Brazilian Grand Prix leading by seven points from Felipe Massa.
      Massa was brilliant and won the race – his second ever home win.
      However, Hamilton saw Timo Glock slow down and zipped past him right at the end to claim fifth and four points for his first title.

      Sebastian Vettel, 2012
      Interlagos, again, provided a remarkable season finale.
      Vettel and Fernando Alonso were up against one another – with Vettel leading by 13 points in an era when 25 points were given for a win.
      Alonso fought hard, going from sixth in the grid to end up with a respectable second placed finish.
      Vettel, however, performed a miracle after dropping from 22nd following a crash with Williams’ Bruno Senna.
      He somehow finished sixth to claim his title.

      Nico Rosberg, 2016
      Hamilton has previous in Abu Dhabi, this time with Rosberg who led by 12 points going into their battle at the Yas Marina circuit.

      Needing just a podium finish, Hamilton started the race from pole and won it.
      However, Rosberg was keen to sit just behind his team mate to secure the title.

      Man Utd starlet Zidane Iqbal idolised Arsenal ace Mesut Ozil and Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong before making debut

      THERE is now more than one Zidane.This week, Manchester United starlet Zidane Iqbal made his debut for the Red Devils.
      A late substitution in the 1-1 draw against Young Boys, the Iraqi U23 international made history by becoming the first ever South Asian footballer to pull on the famous red shirt.

      However, it wasn’t United legends like Wayne Rooney or Cristiano Ronaldo who inspired Iqbal growing up.
      Ex-Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil was Iqbal’s idol growing up because of his Muslim background.
      PAKISTANI HERITAGE
      Iqbal was asked on Manchester United’s official website who he looked up to as he rose through the ranks at the club.
      “Mesut Ozil, because he’s a Muslim like me. Just seeing another Muslim footballer is a good thing,” he revealed.
      “The journey is different for everyone, and I can tell you it’s not easy. It’s like a rollercoaster, up and down. You just have to enjoy the ride and whatever’s meant to be is meant to be.”
      While the box-to-box midfielder also revealed Barcelona’s Dutch ace Frenkie de Jong is someone he likes to model is own game on.
      The exciting talent was born in Manchester to a Pakistani father and Iraqi mother.

      At grassroots level he played for Sale United, until he was plucked by United scouts to join their academy aged just nine – the earliest age legally permitted.
      His former coach Stewart Hamer previously praised Iqbal’s attitude to the Manchester Evening News.
      “He had a great attitude, he was always willing to learn and he played with a big smile on his face,” he said.
      “He was quite happy to do whatever we challenged him to do.
      “Everyone took their part in being a goalkeeper, for example, and he’d take his part in the net just like everyone else.”
      Even at the age of six he was running rings around the opposition, which his coach deemed “unfair”.
      “We had quite a bit of success if you can call it that at that stage, and Zidane was at the heart of that,” Hamer continued.
      “There were times when we would play six-a-side competitions and he would be basically ripping it up.

      “We would take him off and substitute him because it wasn’t fair to the other side.
      “Or sometimes we’d put him in goal so he wasn’t causing the danger.”
      INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL BECKONS
      Being born in the UK, Iqbal could represent England.
      But, for the moment, it’s Iraq who are profiting from the skilful youngster.
      Back in September, he was called up to their U23 team for the first time.
      A month later, he starred as captain in a 2-2 draw against Lebanon – scoring his first goal.
      According to reports, the Iraq Football Association are desperate for Iqbal to commit his future to the national team.
      Back in August, England manager Gareth Southgate stressed the importance of incorporating more British South Asian players in the game.
      “Sometimes the Asian voice has been lost in the anti-discrimination argument,” Southgate said
      “And when you look at the percentages of the population that we’re talking about, it’s high numbers. Frankly, it’s a big talent pool that we’re missing within football. We don’t have high numbers of English-qualified players playing anyway, clubs in their academies are always searching for talent.

      Max Verstappen’s girlfriend Kelly Piquet
      Red Bull’s title-chasing driver Max, 24, is very loved up with 33-year-old Brazilian model and journalist Kelly Piquet, who this week celebrated her birthday.
      Max went public with their relationship on New Year’s Day this year, sharing a romantic snap of them together on a beach in Brazil, though it’s thought they’ve been an item since October 2020.
      Even before dating Max, Kelly had strong ties to Formula One racing, as she is the daughter of three-time F1 world champion Nelson Piquet and Dutch model Sylvia Tamsma.
      Nelson drove for Ensign, McLaren and Brabham before moving to Williams, where he won his final championship in 1987, beating teammate Nigel Mansell.
      Kelly was previously in a relationship with Russian driver Daniil Kvyat, and the former couple share a young daughter.

      His skill set, quick feet, an ability to keep possession, and perfectly executed through balls mirror David Silva, who graced the Etihad for ten years until moving to Real Sociedad in 2020.
      McAtee made his first team debut for the club earlier this campaign, coming on as a sub in the 6-1 demolition of Wycombe Wanderers in the EFL Cup.
      While back in November he appeared in the Premier League against Everton.
      But, if Manchester United hadn’t let him go, he could have been appearing at Old Trafford instead.
      RED DEVILS REGRET
      Across town, there’s some rumblings among the Red Devils’ coaching staff about how McAtee slipped through the cracks.
      When he was 11, the talent played in red alongside his older brother John, who now turns out for Grimsby Town.
      But when Manchester United decided to release John their father – who played rugby league for St Helens – pulled James out of their academy.
      United’s loss was City’s gain, who welcomed him with open arms to their youth set up.
      And he has progressed through the ranks all the way to the EDS side, also known as the U23’s, and the first team.
      In that time, he has also been recognised at international level – playing for both England’s U18 side and U20’s.
      KNOWS WHERE THE NET IS

      The numbers really speak for themselves. Eleven in 12 in Premier League 2, four in three Uefa Youth League matches and one in two for the EFL Trophy side.
      In some quarters he’s been called the best player at U23 level at the moment, with his form putting him into Guardiola’s first team thoughts.
      Manchester City Elite Development Squad’s manager Brian Barry Murphy is impressed with his work ethic and desire to improve.
      “I’ve seen a real hunger from him to develop his goal scoring, and drifting towards that goal,” he told Goal.
      “He is a very, very talented player and a very creative player.
      “I think it’s very early in his development. He wants to score goals to support the team and work alongside his team-mates, but understanding he has a special set of qualities that will allow him to score goals and create goals.
      “He’s very focused on improving that, which is intriguing me.”
      BUT CITY COULD LOSE HIM
      At the moment there’s plenty of talk of McAtee going out on loan for first team experience in the Championship this January
      While last summer it was reported that Brighton had a bid of £8million turned down for the playmaker, which was denied by City.
      Either way, City will be looking to tie their promising kid to a long-term contract.

      Currently, his deal expires in the summer of 2023, and Manchester United, Liverpool and Barcelona are said to be keeping a watchful eye on developments.

      The talented youngster was called up to the Wales U18 squad to face England on March 29, and gave a good account of himself despite the Dragons losing 2-0.
      Famously, his father, BT Sport pundit Robbie Savage, was a member of the Class of ’92 side featuring the likes of Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, and Paul Scholes.
      Savage Sr, 46, also got 39 caps for Wales – playing for clubs including Leicester City, Birmingham City and Derby County during his career.
      And Charlie even shares his old man’s position – playing in central midfield, where he loves to break up the play.
      LOVES A TACKLE
      Ex–pro Robbie was famous for his tough-tackling style and his energy on the pitch.

      And now he’s reportedly added to his coaching staff, with claims that Chris Armas will join his coaching staff.
      The American, 49, is said to have formed a strong bond with Rangnick, when Armas was the New York Red Bulls assistant coach and later head coach.
      Rangnick worked at the MLS side as director of football.
      But in his last role Armas was sacked as Toronto FC boss following a 7-1 defeat to D.C. United.
      CREDIBLE PLAYER
      A hard-working midfielder, Armas began his career in the MLS with LA Galaxy.
      After two seasons in California, he was signed by Chicago Fire – where he would become a club legend.
      Over nine years, he appeared 273 times for the club before retiring in 2007.
      In international football, Armas turned out initially for Puerto Rico in friendlies, before switching allegiance to the United States.

      MOVE TO COACHING
      A year after retiring from the game, Armas began his coaching badges with Chicago Fire.
      He then continued his apprenticeship at Adelphi University in New York, working with the women’s football team.
      In 2015, Armas returned to the MLS with New York Red Bulls – eventually taking over as first team coach, when the recently sacked Leipzig coach Jesse Marsch moved to RB Salzburg in 2018.
      Under Armas, they finished first in the regular season, winning the Supporters’ Shield. However, they faced heartbreak in the playoffs when they were eliminated by Atlanta United.
      The next season, his first full one, the club finished sixth in the Eastern Conference to once again reach the playoffs, until they were knocked out by Philadelphia Union in the first round.

      What was most impressive in the team’s style of play was the New York Red Bulls had the fastest ball recoveries in the league, with the highest press, and played the most direct attacking style.
      By 2020 though, their form had dipped and he parted ways with the club with the team misfiring.
      CANADIAN ADVENTURE
      This year, Armas’ coaching expertise was needed at Toronto FC.
      It was a tenure that would last just six months, before he was given the bullet.
      In 15 games, his side had a dismal record – winning just twice, drawing three and losing 10 games.
      A 7-1 defeat to D.C. United was the straw that broke the camel’s back, and he was dismissed soon after.

      And boy does the racing legend know how to spend it – splashing his cash on the best cars that could earn him the title of ultimate celebrity petrol head.
      The eco-warrior equalled Michael Schumacher’s seven world titles last season and after a thrilling win in Saudi Arabia last night he can claim a record eighth crown this Sunday in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
      But away from the track, Hamilton, 36, has an equally impressive fleet of cars worth around – wait for it – £13MILLION.
      Of course, being a driver, he’s a car fanatic and collects everything from supercars to vintage classics that he divides between two garages – one in Monaco and another in LA.
      He said previously: “I don’t know anything about wine. I don’t know a huge amount about art. But what I do know is cars, and I’m very particular about them.

      LAFERRARI
      Every car aficionado worth their weight in salt owns this £1m Ferrari – another collector’s item that rises in value as the years go by.
      Capable of reaching a top speed of 217 mph, the LaFerrari can hit 0-62 mph in just 2.4 seconds, meaning it’s Hamilton’s fastest car he owns.
      Footballers including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Son Heung-min also drive this frighteningly fast motor that must be just like handling a racing car.

      MERCEDES-AMG PROJECT ONE
      Lewis has already got his hands on a Project One, that’s not even supposed to be out till next year.
      He was heavily involved in the production of the plug-in hybrid sports car that’s capable of hitting a top speed of 217mph.
      Only 275 are going to be released at a cost of around £2m.
      Make that 274 now, since Hamilton has one.

      Hamilton, who clearly has a need for speed, added this supercar to his garage probably because it’s the fastest Mercedes in production.
      Powered by a 6.2-litre V8 engine that produces 622bhp – the SLS can reach a top speed of 196 mph.
      It also hits 0-60 in just 3 seconds – making it the ideal car for Hamilton to get his thrills off the track with. For a price tag of £230k, it’s just what you’d expect really.

      MCLAREN P1
      Despite splitting with McLaren’s racing team, Hamilton can’t have felt too aggrieved with his former employers because in 2015 he added a £2m P1 to his extensive list of rides.
      The P1 has a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine, which is twinned with an electric motor that means the supercar has a total power and torque output of 903 bhp and 980 Nm of torque.
      In real talk that means it’s fast and powerful, can hit a top of 217 mph and 0-60mph in under 2.7 seconds.

      1967 FORD MUSTANG SHELBY GT500
      The second classic car that’s part of his fleet, fans of the Hollywood movie Gone In 60 Seconds might recognise this motor as looking to similar to one of the Eleanor models from the film.
      Hamilton had his customised by Oklahoma shop Classic Recreations for additional cost.
      At auctions, these can fetch up to £750k, and you can bet Hamilton’s is in tip-top condition. That said, we doubt he’ll ever sell it.
      BEST OF THE REST
      When the Mercedes-Maybach 6 came out in 2016, Hamilton made sure he got his hands on the concept car.
      The 2×2 coupe is completely electric, and can run up to 200 miles before it’ll need recharging.
      Hamilton also has another Mercedes – the Maybach S600, which is a luxurious chauffeur’s car with a partition separating the front seats from the back.
      Both those motors have a combined worth of around £800k.
      And Hamilton doesn’t mind swapping four wheels for two – sometimes taking his £6,500 Honda CRF450RX Motocross Bike around the dirt tracks of California.
      Then there’s also his Maverick X3 dune buggy that would’ve set him back around £20k, that’s also electric in theme with his eco-warrior status.
