And some of the responses Neville received while controlling Scott’s phone were harrowing as they demonstrated the sexism on Twitter.
In response to Neville posting about Champions League matches, one person said: “Get back in the kitchen, babe.”
Another replied: “You should probably concentrate on the girl’s league.”
A third added: “You finally agreed to marry me?”

Yet another troll said: “Seems like your brain’s gone missing. Better leave football to the boys then luv.”
While another response read: “Save your opinions for what to make for dinner.”
Meanwhile, Scott, using Neville’s phone, got a reply saying: “The most objective opinion I’ve seen from you.”
Reacting to the experiment, Neville said: “The heated debates and rivalries are what makes football so exhilarating. But when negativity is linked to gender, this goes too far, especially from behind a screen.

“By putting myself in Jill’s shoes and seeing the reaction, I have seen first-hand the uglier side of this sport that I love and want to make it clear that football is for everyone.
“On the pitch and online, we should treat each other with respect no matter our gender, race, sexuality or what colour shirt we’re wearing.”
And Scott added: “Attitudes have definitely changed, but there’s no doubt that female fans, pundits and players still get a lot more online negativity than men due to gender bias. You develop a thick skin – but we shouldn’t have to.
“Some people have probably been left a little red-faced by this experiment but hopefully it’s reminded everyone of the need to kick gender bias out of the game for good.
“Anyone can be a fan of sport, regardless of gender and it’s time to remember this.” More

SCOTLAND fans have told Gary Lineker to “stick to politics” after he posted a cheeky tweet.The former England striker took to social media to praise the side’s first-half performance against the Scots at Hampden Park.

Gareth Southgate’s side went in at half-time with a comfortable 2-0 lead.
England took the lead through Phil Foden before Jude Bellingham doubled the lead just moments later.
And Lineker could not help but share his delight at the performance on Twitter.

However Scottish fans were less than impressed with the Match of the Day host as they bit back suggesting he should stick to politics.
Earlier this year Lineker got into hot water after his criticism of Suella Braverman’s migrant boats plan.
One replied: “Stick to the politics Gary.”
A second commented: “Luck.”

The premature end came shortly after a torrential rain storm on the hottest day of the year so far.
Both managers were left completely perplexed at full-time, with Scunthorpe boss Jimmy Dean admitting: “It just wasn’t clear at all.”
Dean told BBC Radio Humberside: “I went on to the pitch to ask him [the referee] what was going on after he blew the whistle and I don’t think he knew himself. It was when we got inside that he said it was abandoned.
“There was no dialogue, or coming over to talk to us, and he only confirmed it was abandoned when all hell broke loose in the tunnel.

“He said the game was over when I went on the pitch and I asked what that meant because there was at least five minutes of injury time left.
“The game should have been abandoned earlier than it was because we missed a penalty, but the player couldn’t see the ball.
“If I were Buxton I would want the game finished today. I’d want to go in, wait for 20 minutes and see if it dried out. The way the referee blew his whistle… it just wasn’t clear at all.”
Scunthorpe’s social media admin was also left confused.

After tweeting that Buxton had won the match, they followed-up with a short statement that read: “We have been informed that the referee has abandoned the game, rather than blown the full-time whistle. As soon as we have further information, we will let you know.”
Buxton had a similar social media mishap when they thought the final whistle had been blown.
A tweet from the club’s Twitter page read: “The referee has blown up early due to the poor weather conditions. WE HAVE PICKED UP ALL THREE POINTS GET INNNNNNN! Goals from McBurnie and Hunt means we go back to Derbyshire with the win!!”
However, they then added: “The referee has in fact abandoned the game, rather than blown the full-time whistle. As soon as we have further information, we will let you know.”
The National League North has said that no determination will be made on the outcome of the game until the referee’s report is received. More
