Aston Villa Women’s star Alisha Lehmann hits back at trolls and insists ‘I’m a proper footballer’

ALISHA LEHMANN has hit back at online trolls who say she ‘doesn’t even play football’The Aston Villa player has four goals and two assists in her 20 appearances this season for the team, but is arguably better known for her social media presence.

Her Instagram often boasts ultra-glam pictures for her 11.8m followers as well as shots of her playing footballCredit: Instagram
Lehmann has attracted a mammoth 11.8million followers on Instagram and 6.5million followers on her TikTok account, making her the world’s most-followed women’s footballer.
She even had to get the help of Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford on a night out to fend off a mob of blokes at a nightclub.
Her large online presence means she often receives online abuse though, with trolls telling her she “doesn’t even play” if she doesn’t post a football photo.
In an interview earlier this year, the Swiss forward said “Some people just see Instagram and social media and don’t even know I actually play football, when I don’t post a football picture for a week, people say, ‘Oh she doesn’t even play’.

The Villa star spoke to Football Daily about how online trolls affect her and her family
“I think sometimes it’s a bit hard because obviously I train every day, like everyone else, I play every weekend and sometimes it’s hard because they make a picture of you.
“I’m a proper footballer. I work hard every day. I want to be the best version of myself in football and that’s my first priority in life.”
However, she has learned not to let the online abuse affect her.
She said in an interview with Football Daily: “It gives me strength because I feel like 100% you want my life.”

She said: “I don’t really care [about criticism on social media]. I don’t read the stuff.

“It’s more for my family because sometimes I feel bad about this because my Mum sends me stuff then I feel like, ‘Mum, don’t read this’. It’s not important.
“It doesn’t even affect me because I know that those people aren’t important for me, it’s more annoying for me that my family reads it or someone that’s close to me who asks me about it after.”
She also said that she wants to see more Women’s Super League games played in bigger stadiums next season.
“Every single game we play in big stadiums we see the fans are coming, so it’s not like we’re playing in a big stadium and there’s no fans coming.

“We sold out the big stadiums in England, and that’s why I think we just need support from the clubs, that they can give us opportunities to play in the big stadiums.”
The Villa star signed a new one-year extension with the team last summer which runs out at the end of the 2022-23 season.
Lehmann played for West Ham Women and Everton Women before Villa, and has been capped over 30 times for Switzerland.
She earned her first cap for Switzerland in October 2017, going on to score her first goal in March 2018, and helped West Ham reach the Women’s FA Cup final the same year.

She is expected to represent Switzerland down in Australia for the Women’s World Cup later this summer, but will first finish the Women’s Super League season with Aston Villa.
The team currently sits fifth ahead of matches against Liverpool and Arsenal. More

I was drinking and doing drugs before boxing showed up out of nowhere and saved me, says Jake Paul

JAKE PAUL has opened up on how boxing prevented him from his life spiralling out of control on drink and drugs. The American shot to fame on social media app Vine and later YouTube along with his brother Logan.
Jake Paul formerly lived a life of partyingCredit: @jakepaul
And in pursuit of fame and fortune, both moved to Los Angeles where their life moved in the fast lane.
But it almost became too much for Paul until thankfully a shock career in boxing helped turn his life around.
He bravely told DAZN: “I was drinking, doing drugs, doing all sorts of crazy s*** in Los Angeles, not being myself.
“Because that’s what happens when you’re drinking like that and doing those things like that.

“I needed something to save me and boxing showed up out of nowhere.
“I definitely worry – that side of me is the Problem Child side of me – that can get involved in those of things.
“But everybody has a story and I’m just now comfortable telling that story because I was kind of embarrassed by it.
“I didn’t know if I could talk about those things, I didn’t want to say that I had those problems or was doing those things.

“But I was like, if I can share my story about that and finding boxing and saving me then maybe someone else will be able to relate.”
Paul, 26, made his professional boxing debut in 2020, beating online rival AnEsonGib.
It kickstarted a polarising prizefighting career which has seen the social media sensation headline around the world.
He even moved out of LA in late 2020 to rid of any distractions, since building an isolated base in Puerto Rico.
Paul has wins over ex-MMA champions Ben Askren, 38, Tyron Woodley, 41, and Anderson Silva, 48.
But he was beaten in his last bout in February by boxer Tommy Fury, 23, losing a split-decision in Saudi Arabia.
Paul now returns on August 5 in Texas against ex-UFC star Nate Diaz, 38, in a bid to prove he can bounce back from defeat.
And having seen boxing change his life, the Most Valuable Promotions boss insisted he will be a mainstay in the sport.

Paul said: “One hundred per cent, always. Promoting fights, helping fighters, using my platform.
“I’ve even thought about getting my referee’s licence. Wouldn’t that be funny? Wouldn’t that be funny, if I’m like in the ring, refitting a match?”

Busty Misfits boxing ring girl Apollonia Llewellyn fuming after she is banned from TikTok for ‘nudity and body exposure’

MISFITS star Apollonia Llewellyn has been left seething after being hit with a ban by TikTok. The busty boxing ring girl, 23, regularly shares daring pictures and videos to her social media pages.

However, Apollonia revealed that she has been hit with a TikTok livestreaming ban after alleged “nudity and body exposure” violations during a live video on Thursday.
Speaking to the Daily Star, Apollonia said: “I was wearing a white T-shirt that covered everything with no cleavage on show. It is absolutely ridiculous.
“There was no warning, no nothing. I don’t know where the nudity has come from.
“When it happened I was just so confused and didn’t really understand what was going on and when I clicked on it and it said I had been banned.

“I was shocked because I haven’t done anything wrong. I would understand if I was sitting there in a bikini or whatever but that definitely wasn’t the case.
“I was just getting my makeup done and answering questions, nothing like what they are thinking I have done.

“It is just so frustrating because I was just sitting there in a T-shirt and I could understand it if I was exposed but I was literally completely covered.”
Apollonia, originally from Leeds, uses social media to make her living and has almost 700,000 followers on TikTok and over 550,000 on Instagram.

She also caught the eye while working for KSI owned Misfits boxing – which will see KSI fight Joe Fournier following a shoving match at their face-off earlier today.
On the ban, a spokesperson for TikTok told the Star: “We can confirm that the account @apolloniallewellyn has been banned from livestreaming for violating our nudity and body exposure policy.
“Our Community Guidelines are clear that we do not allow nudity, including nipples and areolas, on our platform.”
The banning order sent to Apollonia by the video sharing site read: “We celebrate all shapes and sizes and what people want to feel comfortable in how they present themselves and their bodies.
“We do not allow nudity, including uncovered genitals and buttocks, as well as nipples and areolas of women and girls. Sheer and partially see through clothing is not considered covered.”
But Apollonia insists the ban “makes no sense” due to a number of fake accounts impersonating her which have not been given the same punishment.
She argued: “So I use TikTok to post brand videos, fashion, bikini and swimwear and then I use the lives to interact with people so they know it is actually me because there are so many going on these other live videos and subscribing to accounts which just aren’t me.
“I have had fans who said they have been paying someone who they thought was me thousands of pounds.
“That is why I contacted TikTok to get verified so people know it is me but they are just not doing it.

“The fake accounts can go live but I can’t… it just makes no sense…

F1 commentators make cheeky jokes about Fernando Alonso and Taylor Swift relationship rumours in Azerbaijan F1 coverage

FORMULA ONE icon Fernando Alonso has continued to laugh off rumours that he is dating Taylor Swift – but commentators won’t let it lie ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.Rumours of a shock romance between the pair began circulating last week after an anonymous email was quoted on Instagram.

Several F1 commentators joked about the potential romance during qualifying on SaturdayCredit: Getty
In a post on the social media site, the ‘DeuxMoi’ account wrote: “A couple of Spanish magazines have been posting about TS [Swift] and Spanish F1 driver Fernando Alonso.”
“According to them, the couple has been seeing each other for a week now. Nothing serious tho since they are both recently single.”
However, the account listed the post in a section titled “for entertainment purposes only” and included a disclaimer that highlighted “some of the emails posted are complete BS”.
Alonso, who was made aware of the rumours when they began circulating, has since been very active on social media.

He has continued to tease the potential romance with cryptic posts and videos on his TikTok and Instagram.
Earlier this week, he uploaded a cheeky clip to his TikTok whereby he scrolled through social media before winking at the camera, all while the song “Karma” by Swift played in the background.

He also commented “Feeling 33” on the video, which is thought to be a reference to the singer’s song “22”.
And now several F1 commentators have jumped on the bandwagon by referencing Swift songs when talking about Alonso.

Sky Sports’ Karun Chandhok was quick to reference the song “Blank Space” during qualifying on Friday.
He said: “Fernando Alonso’s found a bit of blank space ahead of him!”
Rachel Brookes, also of Sky Sports, said: “Fernando, it’s been an interesting few weeks for you during this break, I knew you were trouble!”, in reference to Swift’s hit song “I knew you were trouble”.
When quizzing Alonso about his relationship status on Saturday, F1 reporter Will Buxton said: “I have to ask this one because if I don’t I’ll just be leaving a ‘Blank Space’ and I know it is potentially your ‘Love Story’ and nobody else’s, but there have been rumours over the break!”
To which the Spaniard jokingly replied: “It’s so complicated [the] Baku format already! I’m sure you have a lot of questions!”
And legendary Sky Sports presenter David Croft was eager to squeeze as many references into his commentary as possible.
Throughout practice and qualifying, the 52-year-old referenced a number of Swift’s huge hits, including: “Getaway Car”, “Bad Blood”, “Don’t Blame Me”, “Style”, “Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve” and “Mastermind”.
Despite his repeated hinting at a potential relationship, Alonso has refused to officially confirm if he is dating Swift.

He told Spanish outlet Marca: “I usually keep my personal and professional life apart. I prefer not to comment on it.” More

Trae Young and Jaylen Brown Feel the Heat of NBA Stardom

Atlanta’s Trae Young, Boston’s Jaylen Brown and the Nets’ Mikal Bridges are learning to handle the praise and the pressure of rising stardom. The crowd at TD Garden in Boston was serenading the star Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young with chants of “overrated!” It was late in Game 2 of Atlanta’s first-round playoff series against the Celtics, and the Hawks were down by double digits and well on their way to another loss in the series. It was a far cry from just two years ago, when Young was the up-and-coming N.B.A. darling who unexpectedly led the Hawks to the Eastern Conference finals after the team had missed the postseason three years in a row. This time, Young gave the Celtics fits — averaging 29.2 points and 10.2 assists over the series — but Boston dumped Young’s Hawks from the playoffs in six games. Now Young, who just finished his fifth season, is facing an existential challenge more daunting than any one playoff round: the Narrative. It once made him a star. It can also take that distinction away.“I understand there’s always the fiction in the narrative of, ‘That’s the superstar; that’s where he should be; and X, Y, Z,’” Hawks General Manager Landry Fields said in an interview before Game 4 against Boston. “And I understand that from the broader perspective. But for us internally, we see Trae, the human. Trae, the man. And how is he continuously taking his game 1 percent better, 2 percent better over time? So the expectation is really to grow.”In basketball, where individual players arguably have more impact on the game than in any other team sport, stars become lightning rods as they become more established, and playoff failures are magnified further. Every year, the Narrative adjusts its star player pecking order based on some amorphous combination of stats, team success and factors out of the player’s control, such as injuries. Narrative Setters — loosely defined as the news media, fans and league observers, like players, coaches and executives — shape the perception of a player’s evolution from rising star to star with expectations.Players like Young, 24, and Boston’s Jaylen Brown, 26 — top-five draft picks and two-time All-Stars — are undergoing this transition as so many other top-level players would expect. But others, like Nets forward Mikal Bridges, 26, have been thrust into the metamorphosis unexpectedly.Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young, center, scored at least 30 points in four of the six games against Boston in their first-round playoff series.Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images“Consistency, your work ethic and your confidence puts you in that category,” said Gilbert Arenas, a former N.B.A. All-Star turned podcast host. “Now, what ends up happening is it’s outside influence that puts: ‘Oh, he needs to win a championship. He needs to do this.’ But reality will speak different. If my team is not a championship team, then that goal is unrealistic. So as a player, you don’t really put those pressures on you.”If a player fails, criticism often loudly follows. On ESPN’s TV panels. On Reddit. On Twitter. In living rooms. At bars. Through arena jeers and chants of “overrated.” On podcasts like the one Arenas hosts.By his mid-20s, Arenas, a second-round draft pick in 2001, had come out of nowhere to make three All-N.B.A. and three All-Star teams and was one of the most exciting young players in the league. But injuries dogged him for the rest of his career, and his decision to jokingly bring a gun into the Wizards locker room marred his reputation. With minimal playoff success for Arenas, the Narrative switched to questions about his maturity and his commitment to the game.Jeff Van Gundy, the ESPN analyst and former coach, said criticism and greater expectations usually came when a player signed a big contract or regressed after playoff success. He added that stars were also judged on their attitudes with coaches, teammates and referees.Young’s name surfaced in trade rumors on the eve of the playoffs, even though he is in the first year of a maximum contract extension. Young said in an interview on TNT that he “can’t control all the outside noise.”“I can only control what I can control, and that’s what I do on this court and for my teammates,” he continued, adding, “let everything else take care of itself.”He is on his third permanent head coach in the last three seasons, and while his regular-season offensive stats are stellar (26.2 points and 10.2 assists per game), teams often exploit him on defense. He was not named to the All-Star team this year.Young, of course, isn’t the only star with perpetually shifting perceptions. Some players are seen as ascending — like the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who carried his young team to the play-in tournament. Others players are on the dreaded descending side, like Dallas’s Luka Doncic, who failed to make the playoffs a year after going to the Western Conference finals.Gilgeous-Alexander, Doncic and Young are all the same age, but Doncic and Young receive far more criticism, despite their superior résumés. If that sounds illogical, welcome to sports fandom, said Paul Pierce, a Hall of Famer who hosts a podcast for Showtime.“This is what comes with this,” Pierce said. “Guys get paid millions of dollars, so we can voice our opinions.”In the 2000s, Pierce emerged as one of the best young players in the N.B.A. He was a 10-time All-Star, but short playoff runs prompted some to say he was overrated. He quieted most critics when he helped lead the Celtics to a championship in 2008 alongside Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen.“Most players who reached the star status were players who come up in the league,” Pierce said. “They were McDonald’s All-Americans. They were the top player in their high school. So they expect to be in that position. So for me, I was like, ‘Shoot, I’m going to get there eventually.’”Bridges, the Nets guard, stepped into the spotlight after Phoenix traded him to the Nets in February as part of a deal for Kevin Durant. He was a reliable starter in Phoenix, but in Brooklyn, the fifth-year guard was thrust into the role of No. 1 option. He averaged a career-best 26.1 points per game in 27 games with the Nets while remaining one of the best defensive guards in the league. But the Nets quickly fell into a 2-0 series hole in their first-round playoff matchup with the Philadelphia 76ers. In an interview before Game 3, Bridges said he couldn’t worry about outsiders’ opinions. “You can’t control what they feel and think about you all,” Bridges said. “All you control is how hard you work and what you do, and personally, I know I work hard.”Mikal Bridges, left, suddenly became the No. 1 scoring option for the Nets after the Phoenix Suns traded him to the team in February for Kevin Durant.Sarah Stier/Getty ImagesBridges played well during the series, but the Nets as a whole struggled to generate offense, and defenders keyed in on Bridges. The Sixers swept the Nets, the last victory coming in Brooklyn. Afterward, Bridges told reporters that he needed to get better and promised his team that he would. “I love my guys to death, and I told them that’s just on me,” he said. “I told them I’m sorry I couldn’t come through.”For Brown, the Celtics star, the disappointment came last year, when his team lost to Golden State in the N.B.A. finals. This season, his career highs in points and rebounds have made him a strong contender to make his first All-N.B.A. team. He has always been viewed as a dynamic wing, and the Celtics have never missed the playoffs during his seven-year career. Now the Celtics are the odds-on favorite to make the N.B.A. finals from the East — especially with Milwaukee’s having lost in the first round — and Brown has, at times, been their best player.“When I was younger in my career, I was the guy looking to make a name in the playoffs, looking to gain some notoriety,” Brown said.He has done that. But that means it’s no longer enough for him to be simply dynamic. He has to carry the franchise, alongside the four-time All-Star guard Jayson Tatum.“Part of his ascension is he’s really talented,” the Celtics’ president, Brad Stevens, said. “Part of it is he has got a great hunger. And part of it is he works regardless of if he had success or hit a rough spot.” He continued: “Then I think part of it is he’s been on good teams all the way through. And so, then you have a responsibility of, like, doing all that.”Players often say they don’t feel external pressure to meet outsiders’ expectations. But then there’s the pressure from their co-workers.“All of us want to be the best N.B.A. player ever,” said Darius Miles, a former N.B.A. forward. “All of us want to be Hall of Famers. All of us want to be All-Stars. And once you get in the league, you want all the accolades. So that’s enough pressure alone on yourself that you have.”Boston’s Jaylen Brown averaged a career-best 26.6 points per game this season, helping the Celtics secure the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference.Brynn Anderson/Associated PressThe Clippers drafted Miles No. 3 overall in 2000; 15 picks later, they also took Quentin Richardson. Together, they made the previously adrift franchise exciting and culturally relevant. But injuries derailed Miles’s career. Decades later, the two close friends, like Arenas and Pierce, are Narrative Setters themselves as co-hosts of a podcast.“I think going to the Clippers, being the worst team in the N.B.A., we wanted to be accepted by the rest of the N.B.A.,” said Miles, who hosts a Players’ Tribune podcast with Richardson. “We wanted to be accepted by our peers. We want to be accepted by the other players, to show that we were good enough players to play on that level.”Pierce said social media had added a different dimension to how stars are perceived.“I really feel like social media turned N.B.A. stardom and took a lot of competitive drive out of the game,” Pierce said. “Because people are more worried about how they look and their image and their brand and their business now. Before it was just about competing. It was about wanting to win a championship. Now everybody’s a business.”But social media can also provide a much-needed and visible boost to young stars in their best moments. In Game 5 against the Celtics, Young went off for 38 points and 13 assists, stretching the series for one more game. Sixers center Joel Embiid tweeted, “This is some good hoops!!!” and added the hashtag for Young’s nickname: #IceTrae. It was a glimpse of the kind of play that has made Young so popular: His jersey is a top seller, and he was invited to make a guest appearance at a W.W.E. event in 2021.Rising stars, Van Gundy said, are always going to have ups and downs as they develop.“If your expectations are never a dip in either individual or team success, yes, that’s a standard that is ripe to always be negative,” he said. But, he added, “if your expectations are that guys play when they’re healthy, they do it with a gratefulness, a genuine joy and a team-first attitude — no, I don’t think that’s too much to expect.” More

Users who have refused to sign up to Musk’s unpopular subscription service, which charges $8 per month, have been stripped of their blue tick amid the businessman’s chaotic takeover.
Football superstar Ronaldo didn’t avoid the cull as he was stripped of his verification badge despite his 108.3million followers.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is the highest earner in the history of sport as he bags a staggering £173million per year at Al-Nassr.
But that didn’t help his case as the Manchester United legend has become unverified alongside a number of other celebrities as well as journalists, academics and politicians.

However, some celebs managed to hold on to their ticks as Musk decided to pay for their subscriptions himself.
Among them is NBA legend and LA Lakers superstar LeBron James, whose profile remained intact.
The American entrepreneur took to Twitter to back a post from T(w)itter Daily News claiming that some famous people have been offered a “complimentary Twitter Blue subscription”.
