Harry Maguire watches Soccer Aid charity match in first public outing since Mykonos arrest

HARRY Maguire last night made his first public appearance since his arrest over a brawl in Mykonos last month — as a spectator at the Soccer Aid charity football match.
The Man United captain, 27, was seen checking his mobile in the stands before the Old Trafford game.

Maguire faces a retrial after being handed a suspended jail sentence.
The £85m defender was convicted of assault and attempted bribery, but has appealed.
An England XI of celebs and footie greats drew 1-1 with a World XI.
But England XI lost the penalty shootout 4-3, thanks to misses from comedian Lee Mack and musician Chunkz.

Mack fired a tame penalty down the middle after Locksmith had missed for the Rest of the World.

It came down to YouTube star Chunkz to keep England in it, but he fired his spot-kick wide at the Stretford End to give World XI the win for the second year running.
The match raised £11.5million for Unicef.
That makes this Soccer Aid the most successful in history.

Fans call for Maya Jama to replace Le Tissier and Co on Soccer Saturday after impressive Soccer Aid pundit appearance

SOCCER AID fans called for Maya Jama to be given a regular spot on Sky Sports after the presenter’s pundit appearance on Sunday night.
Soccer Saturday chiefs are on the lookout for fresh faces after the controversial sackings of Matt Le Tissier, Phil Thompson and Charlie Nicholas last month.

Maya, 26, looked sensational in a matching skirt and top on ITV
TV and radio host Jama, 26, was on the panel for the Unicef charity friendly between an England side and World XI made up of former pros and celebrities.
Joining Alex Scott and Omid Djalili in the ITV studio perched on the Old Trafford stands, stunning Jama revealed she was a West Ham fan – because of the hooligan film Green Street – who has a soft spot for her local club, Bristol Rovers.
World XI claimed victory in the 2020 edition of the exhibition match, winning on penalties for the second year in a row, after a 1-1 draw.
The Radio 1 DJ even correctly predicted a rare low-scoring affair in the annual fixture, while her fellow pundits tipping a nine-goal thriller.

And Soccer Aid viewers were left in no doubt that that form deserved a shot in the upcoming live auditions.
Twitter poster Steve wrote: “I think Maya Jama should replace Matt Le Tissier on Soccer Saturday.”
Niall added: “Get Maya Jama on Soccer Saturday.”
Joe wrote: “Soccer Aid have got it spot on with their pundits tonight and I think Soccer Saturday would be much better going forward replacing the three recently sacked panel members with Alex Scott, Maya Jama, and Omid Djalili.”

Jason remarked: “If Soccer Saturday are still looking for replacements for Le Tiss, Charlie and Thompson, I’m saying Alex Scott, Maya Jama and Kirsty Gallacher know their stuff.”
Kurt tweeted: “Maya Jama has done a fantastic job tonight and should 100% be part of the new soccer Saturday team.”
Darren wrote online: “Only Maya Jama can save Soccer Saturday.”

England lose ANOTHER penalty shootout as World XI win Soccer Aid 2020 with Chunkz and Lee Mack missing

ENGLAND suffered penalty shootout woe for the second Soccer Aid in a row, as World XI won the 2020 title at Old Trafford.
Comedian Lee Mack and YouTuber Chunkz missed from the spot in the charity match after a 1-1 draw on Sunday night, raising a record-breaking £11.5million for Unicef.

At one point, the chances of a ball hitting the net all night seemed pretty slim.
The brightest moment of a quiet first-half saw Chelsea captain, leader and legend John Terry take matters into his own hands.
Bombing forward to get on the end of a rapid counter-attack, the 39-year-old produced a centre-back’s finish that headed straight for the corner flag.
Down the other end, old Blues pal Michael Essien launched a trademark piledriver that flashed wide of David James’ post.

The second-half cut back on the 2005-06 Premier League Years vibe to introduce a dazzling of star power.
But that also meant a sense of jeopardy as celebs Alfie Allen and Ore Oduba took over the goalkeepers’ gloves.
There was no joy for Games Of Thrones star Allen, however, after Robbie Keane’s opener.
The Tottenham and Ireland legend curled a delightful effort in off the post from 18 yards to give World XI the lead.

Then it was the turn of the popstars.
Dermot Kennedy drove a powerful effort towards the far-post that would have made it 2-0, but for a goalline clearance.
Straight up the other end, James Bay provided a sweet cross for Yung Filly to calmly roll home.
The YouTube star’s fairytale moment was completed by a joyous celebration with best mate and fellow online sensation Chunkz, whose big chance was still to come despite being subbed off.
Chances came and went for both sides but, with 90 minutes on the clock, Mark Clattenburg’s whistle meant, yet again, Soccer Aid was going to penalties.
DJ Locksmith missed for World XI before England’s Lee Mack fluffed his lines.

With the shootout tied at 3-3, Love Island’s Kem Cetinay put World XI ahead.
That left the sudden death penalty to Chunkz, whose sidefoot finish beat Oduba all ends up but flashed inches wide of the post.
The surreal feel to the night was rounded off with the victors not actually realising they had won until clocking Oduba’s celebrations – before Locksmith triumphantly lifted the shield.

Who won Soccer Aid 2020, and how much money was raised for UNICEF in charity match?

SOCCER AID returned with a bang tonight as an England XI packed with celebs and former stars took on the Rest of the World – and once again it went all the way to penalties.
The annual showpiece was held at Old Trafford, months later than originally planned, with the hosts looking to win back the trophy after the ROW XI triumphed in 2019.

    Who won Soccer Aid 2020?
Wayne Rooney took charge of the England XI as they looked to put the disappointment of a year ago behind them.
It was a cagey first half at the Theatre of Dreams, with England suffering a blow as striker Tom Davis was forced off early with an injury.
John Terry wasted a big chance after a lung-bursting run from the back, but it was former Man Utd left-back Patrice Evra who came closest to opening the scoring with a fierce drive from 25 yards.
Alfie Allen and Ore Oduba took over between the sticks after the break and the game opened up with two rookies in goal.

Robbie Keane needed just nine minutes to break the deadlock, curling in a beautiful strike from the edge of the box which cannoned in off the left post.
But Rest of the World could only celebrate for three minutes, as England struck back through a composed finish from YouTuber Yung Filly.

Both sides had chances to win it in the 90 minutes, with James Bay and Olly Murs going close for England while Keane could have done better with a late opening.
For the third time in three years, Soccer Aid had to be decided from twelve yards in a celebrity penalty shootout.

And once again Lee Mack proved to be a disaster from the spot, firing a tame penalty down the middle after Locksmith had missed for the Rest of the World.
It came down to YouTube star Chunkz to keep England in it, but he fired his spot-kick wide at the Stretford End to give World XI the win for the second year running.

Man City legend Yaya Toure offered to hire sex workers for Soccer Aid team ahead of UNICEF charity match

FOOTBALL ace Yaya Toure has been axed from this weekend’s Soccer Aid after offering to hire sex workers for his team-mates.
Married dad Toure, 37, boasted he could bring 19 girls to the side’s five-star hotel in Cheshire.

He also posted a pornographic video showing a naked woman in a bath in the group WhatsApp chat.
It sparked a string of complaints from his appalled team-mates, who included several female players as well as celebrities.
They called on Soccer Aid and ITV bosses to axe Toure from the game, held annually in support of children’s charity Unicef.
Toure, who has three children with wife Gina, deleted the messages and issued an apology but today got the boot from Sunday’s game.

An insider said: “Everyone at Soccer Aid was disgusted by Yaya’s messages.
“There is a WhatsApp group for his team, the World XI, and everyone had been chatting in it.
    ‘ABSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL’
“Without being prompted, Yaya posted a video of a naked woman in a bath.
“She was acting in a lewd manner and it was highly inappropriate.

“He went on to say he could get 19 women like the one in the video to come to the hotel to the pleasure of those playing the match.
“It was absolutely disgraceful and caused a huge amount of distress to some of the people who received the messages.
“Soccer Aid is a charity game and is raising money for children.
“So to have one of the players, especially one who is supposed to be a professional, making such lewd and gross suggestions is despicable.”

Midfielder Yaya, who left Manchester City in 2018, sent the X-rated messages on Thursday night.
The WhatsApp group was made up of his team-mates from his World XI side — including ex-Man United star Patrice Evra and female players Julie Fleeting, Lianne Sanderson and Chelcee Grimes.
Players and coaches from their England XI opponents were also in the group.
A string of complaints were then made to Soccer Aid and ITV, which is broadcasting the match live.
The insider added: “The messages turned the stomachs of the women, along with the men.
“The atmosphere among both teams had been so good and spirits were high. These messages have really soured the mood.
“Julie, Lianne and Chelcee made their feelings clear about how wrong they thought his messages were. They called for Toure to be taken off the team.”
After bosses at Unicef and ITV were notified of the content, Yaya was told to delete them.
He was then forced to apologise to everyone who received the messages and was warned his place in the squad was in jeopardy.
However, feelings were running high during breakfast at the hotel this morning, with many feeling he should get the boot.
    ‘AN APOLOGY WON’T CUT IT’
A source explained: “Within a few minutes his messages had been deleted and Yaya got a mouthful from the bosses.
“He repeatedly apologised to them and also said he was sincerely sorry for what he had posted to those in the group.

“Not everyone was impressed however and it’s hard to move on from. This wasn’t just banter.
“To many it felt misogynistic and wrong — and an apology just won’t cut it.
“At breakfast on Friday morning it was all anyone could talk about.
“There was no laughter and no one thought it was funny in the slightest.
“Everyone signed up to Soccer Aid is there with one goal — to raise money for Unicef. This has cast a shadow over the event.”
Toure was then told this afternoon it was the right thing for him “to step back”.

This wasn’t just banter. To many it felt misogynistic and wrong.

A spokesman for Soccer Aid last night told The Sun: “Inappropriate content was shared in a private group text. The message was quickly deleted and a full apology was made to all.
“Soccer Aid for Unicef has discussed the above with the individual involved and he has decided to no longer continue to participate in this year’s event.
“While it was an error of judgment, it was felt that the behaviour didn’t align with the values of the event and its cause, and it was the right thing for him to step back from this year’s match.”
A second insider working on the charity match, which is in its 14th year, insisted that Yaya’s boasts would never have come to fruition — because of Covid-19.
They said: “There are strict social distancing rules in place at the hotel the teams are staying at so Yaya’s suggestion to his team-mates could never have come to pass.
“The hotel is blocked off solely for the teams and all those working on the game and there are rules in place. People cannot just come and go.
“Yaya acted incredibly foolishly and is now paying the price for his stupidity.”
This year’s match will be played behind closed doors for the first time in its history due to Covid-19 restrictions.

    £38m winner

    By Daniel Hammond

SOCCER Aid has so far raised more than £38million for Unicef UK.
The idea of footballers and celebs taking on each other in an 11-a-side game was initiated by Robbie Williams and mate Jonathan Wilkes in 2006.
It was held every two years until 2018 when it switched to annually.
The England team leads the head-to-head with five wins to three.
From last June, female stars were included in the two squads.
This year, for the first time in the match’s history the Government and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, will both match public donations, meaning every £1 donated becomes £3 – up to £3million – until October 6.
Unicef provides humanitarian and developmental aid to children around the world.

The star-studded England squad includes Olly Murs, 36, Mark Wright, 33, and Paddy McGuinness, 47. Last year’s game raised more than £6.7million for Unicef.
Funds raised this year will go to helping children battle coronavirus around the world.
Like their Premier League counterparts, the Soccer Aid players will take the knee as a mark of respect to the Black Lives Matter movement before kick-off at Old Trafford.
