Man Utd legend Gary Neville explains his bizarre ‘obsession’ with asking people where they’re going on holiday

MANCHESTER UNITED icon Gary Neville has revealed why he has an “obsession” with asking players where they go on holiday. The former defender was covering Luton’s Premier League clash with West Ham alongside Jamie Carragher and Kelly Cates when he asked Jarrod Bowen – who was not named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad this week – about his holiday plans for the international break.

Bowen will now have a break after helping West Ham win 2-1 at Luton
Speaking live on Sky Sports, he then revealed why he questions players about their free time.
Neville said: “It’s a little bit weird but do you know something, I always think as a football player, the idea of going into an international break when you’ve lost, you carry it for two weeks sometimes.
“Winning before an international break really makes a big difference at the club.
“I always remember that going back to my United days, you’ll [turning to Carragher] remember it with Liverpool.

“So the idea now that they’ve got a few days off, they can enjoy the international break, they’ve had a great start to the season.
“I’m just asking where he was going Kelly, I’m just trying to be nice! Just relaxing the atmosphere a bit!”
Fans flocked to Twitter to react, with one person referencing Neville’s iconic “mini-retirement” anecdote.
Back in May, fans were left in stitches after discovering that the ex-United star calls holidays “mini-retirements”.

Speaking on the the Diary of a CEO podcast, he said: “What you can have is a mini-retirement during the year, and that’s what I’ve tried to do.
“I don’t do it very well, so for instance this weekend I’m going to Spain on Friday until Monday morning.
    “I call that a mini-retirement. It’s a weekend, it’s a mini-retirement.
“It’s where I can basically say for three days I’m there and I’m basically taking it, I don’t think about work.
“And I will, sometimes my best ideas come when I’m on these types of trips, but then in six weeks I’ll have another mini-retirement for five days or four days.”
West Ham went back to the top of the Premier League table following a 2-1 win over Luton.
Bowen – who was subjected to vile chants about his girlfriend Dani Dyer – opened the scoring before Kurt Zouma doubled the Hammers’ advantage.
Mads Juel Andersen then got a late goal for the hosts, but it wasn’t enough to salvage any points. More

Neville and Carragher enter ‘most humble Premier League ground’ and even see neighbours’ washing on way through away end

GARY NEVILLE labelled Kenilworth Road the “most humble Premier League ground” as he and Jamie Carragher walked down from the top of the away end ahead of Luton’s clash with West Ham.Luton played their first top-flight home game in 31 years on Friday night as they hosted the high-flying Hammers.

And Sky Sports kicked off their coverage from the 10,000-capacity stadium with Neville and Carragher walking the route the away fans will take to their seats.
As they walked up the steps, Neville labelled it “old school”, before Carragher said: “Takes you back. You don’t see many like this.
“We know it’s an older stadium, but to be in there now with the terraced houses, all the gardens we’re gonna see as we get up here, big part of the community.”
After reaching a point where they could see the houses next to the ground, Neville added: “I don’t think many away fans in the Premier League will have seen this view on the way up.

“We’ve got the washing out and everything over there. But it’s absolutely brilliant, isn’t it?”
They then entered the ground at the top of the away stand and made their way through the West Ham supporters.
And Neville said: “This is definitely the most humble Premier League ground that I’ve been at in my time covering football with Sky.
“But what a night this is tonight for Luton Town Football Club.”

Carragher responded: “It’s a brilliant night for them [the Luton fans] but I think everybody’s excited to come here for the first time.
“Friday night football under the lights. I think we’re expecting a huge atmosphere as well.
“This club have been away for so long but they’re a huge part of our childhood as kids – you remember them in big semi-finals, winning a cup final against Arsenal.
“So tonight, a lot of work has gone in, but a huge night for this football club and hopefully from their point of view it goes well.”
Luton have suffered back-to-back defeats on their return to the Premier League.
They were beaten 4-1 by Brighton on the opening weekend, before they lost 3-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Burnley were due to be the first Premier League team to visit Kenilworth Road this season.
However, the game was postponed due to the ground not being ready.
And there were even shots of club staff putting the final touches to Kenilworth Road just hours before kick-off against West Ham. More

Sean Dyche calls out Sky Sports over gaffe live on TV leaving pundits in stitches before Everton’s clash with Doncaster

SEAN DYCHE left the Sky Sports panel in stitches after pointing out the graphic of his starting line-up was “wrong” ahead of Everton’s 2-1 win over Doncaster in the the Carabao Cup.The former Burnley boss, 52, has not had the ideal start to the season with his side losing their opening three Premier League games without scoring a goal.
Sean Dyche joined the Sky Sports panel ahead of Doncaster vs Everton
Dyche felt this Sky Sports graphic of his team was ‘wrong’
And he was evidently not in the mood for mistakes when he joined Sky Sports presenter Mark Chapman for a chat ahead of the Doncaster game on Wednesday evening.
As Dyche’s XI came up on the screen – which depicted a 4-4-2 – Chapman said: “When we put Grant’s up [Doncaster manager Grant McCann], it was in the wrong formation.
“So hopefully we’ve got this in the right formation.”
He then asked about new signing Beto – who was on the bench – before Dyche said: “I’d like to [give him 20, 25 minutes].

“We only [just] got clearance of his visa, that’s what we were waiting on. We’d set the team up, worked on it.”
He then hilariously added: “That’s wrong by the way, but anyway.”
The comment left Chapman and the pundits – which included ex-Sheffield Wednesday boss Darren Moore – in stitches, with Chappers suggesting the line-up was “tactically fluid”, much to Dyche’s amusement.
The mistake would appear to have been that Dyche played a 4-1-3-2 with Amadou Onana sitting behind Abdoulaye Doucoure on the left, Lewis Dobbin on the right and James Garner through the middle.

But Dyche was certainly not laughing once the game kicked off as his Everton team went into half-time 1-0 down against their fourth-tier opponents – who sit bottom of League Two.
Joe Ironside gave the hosts the lead just before the break at the Eco-Power Stadium.
But Everton new boy Beto came off the bench to equalise in the 73rd minute.
And another new signing, Arnaut Danjuma, on loan from Villarreal, turned things around with less than two minutes of normal time remaining as Everton edged their way into the third round. More
