      John Terry calls for Sky Sports to reclaim Champions League coverage from BT Sport as he watches Chelsea beat Porto

      JOHN TERRY has called on Sky Sports to reclaim Champions League broadcasting rights from BT Sport.Sky shared rights with ITV until 2015, when BT shelled out around £1BILLION to snatch the world’s biggest club competition away.

      But JT, 40, didn’t appear to enjoy their coverage of his former side’s clash with Porto on Wednesday night – which happened to feature former verbal sparring partner Robbie Savage on commentary.
      Terry posted an image of the game on his telly to Instagram, captioned: “@SkySports please get hold of the Champions League”.
      Savage, 46, was on commentary duty alongside Darren Fletcher, and has clashed with Terry in the past.
      When JT endured a rough patch during the 2015-16 season, Savage ‘dug him out’, claiming that the Chelsea skipper had entered the ‘beginning of the end’ at Stamford Bridge.
      Terry took exception to this at the time, hitting back: “I’ve come under criticism, individually, from certain players and individuals, players I’ve looked up to and played alongside.
      “I’ve taken that on the chin: Rio, Carra, Neville, the very best I’ve come up against in the game.
      “I take that on the chin. When others speak, maybe I don’t take it on the chin.
      “When players have not had a career, played at a really bad level in their career… Robbie Savage being one.

      Savage hit back: “John’s entitled to his opinion.
      “It’s a shame he thinks 99 per cent of the industry – those of us who have not won the title or Champions League titles – is unqualified to express theirs.”
      Terry is set to be disappointed, however, with BT Sport to remain the home of European football for at least another three seasons.
      In 2019, they agreed a three-year extension from 2021 to 2024, paying around £400million a season for the rights.

      “He normally gets there an hour or an hour and a half before, but he was stuck in traffic and he got there 20 minutes before going on air, you could see his hair was all ruffled, along with his suit.
      “Jamie just got his anger because he was an hour later than he was supposed to be and he got the wrath!”
      Meanwhile, Richards and Keane have developed something of a bromance since they started working together.
      But Richards admits he was not sure what to expect when he first began engaging with the Man Utd icon.
      “Roy’s a legend of the game and when I’m initially going to work with someone I don’t get nervous – I never get nervous – but you’ve got respect for people and that’s the way it should be,” he added.
      “I’ve seen his clips and he used to destroy people left, right and centre.

      Redknapp clapped back at Keane as the pair got into a heated exchange
      “The first clip that did the rounds was where I said I’d burst on the scene as a defender, that’s the one that went viral, and he said he didn’t know any defenders that had burst on the scene.
      “I said, ‘hold on, hold on, I’m the youngest ever defender for England, won the Premier League and won the FA Cup’ and at that moment he was like ”OK” – I earned a little bit of his respect.
      “After that I just loved working with him because I can never compete with Roy Keane as a player, or his medals, but I can make him feel uncomfortable on camera, and that’s my strength.”

      New chairman Kevin Mayer told CNBC: “To have staying power, you need to deliver the sports that matter to consumers no matter where they are. And those are the local sports.
      “So in the UK, the English Premier League and maybe some cricket and maybe some rugby.
      “In Germany, it’s Bundesliga, which is their equivalent of the EPL. In Japan, it’s baseball.
      “So you have to get those local rights in those countries. And that’s how you can make a real service take hold.”
      DAZN launched in the UK in December with Canelo Alvarez’s fight against Callum Smith showcasing the streaming service.
      But the platform, which is owned by billionaire Len Blavatnik, want to expand into Premier League football and are set to provide competition to Amazon.
      In 2019, Amazon started broadcasting matches after agreeing a three-year deal.
      The £90million package gives them 20 matches a season, spread over two rounds, but Amazon have shown additional matches due to the pandemic stopping fans from attending.

      The auction for UK broadcasting rights for the 2022-25 seasons starts later this year and DAZN are expected to bid for coverage.
      Mayer said: “Yeah, I think we are positioned to do it. We have the capital to do it, and Len Blavatnik is committed to it. And it’s going to work.
      “It’s a flywheel that happens. Once it starts spinning, you can create momentum.”

      SunSport reported earlier this week that the ex-Manchester United midfielder does want the Hoops job.

      The pair appeared on Sky Sports News on Saturday ahead of Everton’s 2-0 win over rivals Liverpool at Anfield.

      A wind-swept Shreeves stood next to Carragher on the Anfield pitch, the ex-defender sporting a thick beard.
      And retired boxing star Bellew poked fun at their lockdown looks.
      The Toffees-mad Liverpudlian, 38, tweeted: “Just seen Wolverine and his father doing the pre-match analysis on SSN! #LockdownHaircutProblems.”
      Carragher, 43, responded with laughing emojis, and asked: “Who’s is worse?”

      Bellew replied: “Geoff’s wingbacks are quicker than yours mate so I’d have to say Geoff’s!”
      Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling also teased the ex-defender and reporter Shreeves as he introduced the pair, remarking that they were proudly complying with the lockdown ban on barber shops opening.
      Naturally, attention soon turned back to Bellew’s Everton taking on Carragher’s old club.
      The boxer added: “Enough of this now.. Your lot are getting it!!!!!”

      Liverpool’s shocking run of home form didn’t get any better as Everton won the Merseyside derby.
      Richarlison and a late Gylfi Sigurdsson penalty were enough to see the Toffees win 2-0 – a result that leaves them level on 40 points with the Red but with a game in hand.
      And Bellew was clearly delighted with the result, posting on social media throughout the match.
      He posted a video of him and his family jumping around with the caption “GET IN!!!!”, before later adding:

      Jamie Carragher ‘hated’ Gary Neville and claims ex-Man Utd star’s antics were desperate attempt to win over fans

      LIVERPOOL legend Jamie Carragher has admitted he ‘hated’ Gary Neville when they were professional footballers.
      The Sky Sports colleagues were fierce rivals during the 2000s but have since become good friends.

      Speaking on the Super 6 Podcast, Carragher said: “I hated him a little bit. Can you hate someone a little bit? You just hate them, I suppose!
      “There was a big rivalry between the clubs but he’s kissed his badge and said things about people from Liverpool.
      “He was just basically playing up to the fanzines and trying to get in with the Manchester United fans.”
      Carragher’s comments were delivered in jest, however, later joking: “Who cares about Gary Neville, even if you’re a Man Utd fan? He is a right-back, nobody is really interested in right-backs.”

      As local lads, both Neville and Carragher took the rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool seriously in their playing days.
      In 2006 Neville ran the entire length of the Old Trafford pitch to celebrate United’s last-minute winner against Liverpool in front of the visiting fans.

      He was given a £10,000 fine for his actions but later admitted it was worth every penny.

      Both players enjoyed and endured many famous battles during their playing days, such as Liverpool’s 1-0 win at Old Trafford in December 2000.
      Carragher remained off Neville’s Christmas card list until 2013, when he joined him at Sky Sports.

      The two began an unlikely friendship and love winding each other up on social media.
      Neville recently said he wanted Carragher’s ‘yelp’ as his ringtone after the Liverpool legend squirmed at Alisson’s blunder against Manchester City.
      Carragher, meanwhile, wastes no opportunity to make fun of his former rival, such as when Neville missed a chance in a 2019 charity game.
