Sky Sports presenters read out horrific online abuse including sick barb over death of brother in bid to combat trolls

SKY SPORTS presenters have bravely read out some of the horrific abuse they have faced online in a bid to combat trolls.
The broadcasting company shared a two-minute video of a host of their top talent recalling some of the worst abuse they’ve ever faced.

In a campaign called “Hate Won’t Stop Us”, the likes of Anna Woolhouse, Bryan Swanson and Alex Hammond opened up in a video which is truly difficult to watch.
Amongst the abuse, Kate Mason revealed she was told: “I hope you get Aids. S**g.”
Michelle Owen added: “I’ve been called a ‘dumb b***h’. I was told I’d got fat and put weight on while I was pregnant.”
Sky Sports News presenter Bryan Swanson revealed he was tweeted: “F*** off you chief, pig-faced c**t.”

NBA host Jaydee Dyer shared the vile racist abuse he faced, revealing he was called: “black c**t”.
Bela Shah confirmed it was mostly “racist or sexist”, while Laura Woods claimed: “I didn’t quite know how to process it.
“It was so abusive and so direct and hurtful… I didn’t know what I’d done to deserve it.”
Boxing presenter Woolhouse even revealed she was sent a truly shocking message regarding her brother, who tragically died in a bus crash in Malaysia in 2014.

Through tears, she read: “That big, ugly grin… I hope you can join your brother in death soon.
“He probably killed himself trying to get away from you.”
Woolhouse was also told: “I love how you wear make-up, because you are so ugly without it.”
Natalie Pinkham shockingly revealed she had been called “n****r lover” in the heartbreaking video.
Pinkham also recalled how “one of her best friends took her life” due to a hate campaign.
The Sky Sports star may have been referring to Caroline Flack, who died in February.
Elsewhere in the heart-wrenching video, Dyer added he’d been sent banana emojis and gorilla emojis by sick trolls.
Woolhouse claimed no one would say such vile things to their face, while David Garrido admitted he’s “come to expect it” and is “used to it” now.
And they feared those who don’t have a thick skin like they’ve been forced to grow could be “irreparably damaged” by such abuse.

    4

Micah Richards admitted he had faced vile abuse but praised Sky Sports for their anti-trolling campaign
Sky Sports Premier League analyst Micah Richards added: “I have been a victim of racial abuse online as have so many others.
“It is horrible to receive and the negative impact such comments have can outweigh all the positive aspects of social media.
“These commitments are a positive step as large publishers like Sky Sports need to use their voice to address some of these issues, help educate and ultimately eradicate all forms of online abuse.”
Director of Sky Sports News and Digital Publishing Mark Alford said: “There is a small minority who use digital platforms to post hate, abuse and profanity against our content and our people.
    “This needs to stop.
“We would like the major social media companies to do more to stop harmful content on their platforms.
“They have the best tools and visibility to act against abusive or hateful comments and owe a duty of care to their users.
“The onus should be on the social media platforms to behave like responsible publishers.
“We commit to making skysports.com free from abuse and will strive to make our channels on social media a safer space for all sports fans.”

Micah Richards gets stuck in Sky Sports changing room for 90 MINUTES and makes MNF coverage with just seconds to spare

MICAH RICHARDS nearly missed his shift on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football after getting stuck in his changing room for 90 MINUTES.
The former Manchester City star, 32, was part of a three-man punditry team for his old team’s trip to Wolves on Monday evening.

    3

Micah Richards only just made his MNF shift after being locked in his dressing room for 90 minutes

    3

Richards dashed on to the set adjusting his outfit with seconds to spare

But with just seconds to go before going on air, David Jones and Jamie Carragher were left staring at an empty seat.
In the nick of time, Richards came storming on to the set and took his place on the spare seat, adjusting his clothes to get camera-ready.
And the former defender has now taken to Twitter to reveal he nearly missed all the fun after being trapped in his dressing room for an hour and a half.
Richards tweeted: “Loved being on @SkySportsPL last night…

“But managed to get myself locked in the changing room for 90 mins before the show!
“Thanks to the staff for getting me out with 2 mins to spare – you’d never have known!
“@Carra23 & @DavidJonesSky were bricking doing the show without me.”
Richards has quickly become one of the nation’s most popular pundits for his brilliant insight and infectious laugh.

Micah Richards hit out at trolls during his appearance on MNF

And he used his platform on Monday night to reveal his frustration at a portion of football fans who believe he only got the job at Sky Sports due to the Black Lives Matter movement.
In a powerful speech, Richards claimed: “I’m in a privileged position and I did this through hard work.
“And the hard work that I’ve put in is not going to be tarnished.
“I’ve got people on Twitter, people on Instagram, ‘Oh, Micah Richards is only on because of this whole Black Lives Matter movement’.
“But I’ve had conversations with corporations that I’ve worked for way before this.

“And now I’m getting tarnished with the same brush, ‘He’s only on TV because of Black Lives Matter’ – which is disheartening for me, because I put in the work, I work every single day at my craft.
“I’ve been a professional footballer, I’ve won a Premier League, I’ve played at the highest level… and I’m still getting stones thrown at me.
“So if I’ve got to fly the flag, people want to throw stones at me – I’ll happily take it. Because I know, I put in the work.”
    GREAT SCOTT
Richards also leapt to the defence of Alex Scott – named as the new host of BBC show A Question Of Sport – calling her “incredible” after she too came in for criticism from vile trolls.
The ex-England star added: “Alex Scott is incredible.
“She’s one of the best I’ve ever worked with and it’s even worse for her because she’s a woman, and she’s seen as black as well.
“It’s double jeopardy. She’s in a worse position.
“She is honestly one of the best pundits I have ever worked with and all you see on social media is: ‘Why is a woman working in men’s football? She doesn’t know.’
“She’s played however many times for England, she knows football inside out and more than most people…
“To see the abuse that she gets just because someone’s left their job or not had their contracts renewed, it’s disheartening to see.
“But, at the same time, it just shows we’ve still got a problem and it’s that awkward conversation we all don’t want to have but we’ve got to have the conversation.”

Liverpool face £17.3m Premier League charge for being CHAMPIONS as broadcasters call in debts after coronavirus crisis

LIVERPOOL face a whacking £17.3million Premier League charge – for being champions.
League chiefs told the 20 clubs last season they faced a £330m collective rebate to broadcasters for 2019-20 as a result of the Covid-19 crisis.

And now for the first time the League has unveiled the anticipated costs for the 20 clubs in the top flight last term – and the impact over the next TWO seasons.
Figures published as part of the Prem rulebook for the 2020-21 season outline the anticipated repayments to be demanded from the clubs.
All clubs will pay around 10.7 per cent of the money that would have been due to them.

But with those total pay-outs established by a process involving a basic share plus merit payments for final positions and live TV appearances, the money chart does not entirely mirror the end of season table.
According to the Prem figures, Liverpool’s initial payment of £161.1m will be reduced to £143.8m.
Manchester City, who finished second, will pay back £16.8m of their intended £156.7m for a total of £139.9m.
But Chelsea will end up earning £135.2m, £700,000 more than Manchester United despite finishing a place behind them.

And although Arsenal were eighth last term, extra TV appearances means, even with a £15m rebate charge, they will bank £2.4m more than North London neighbours Spurs and take sixth in the cash pot table.

Clubs such as Mike Ashley’s Newcastle are handing back in the region of £13millionCredit: PA:Press Association

At the bottom, the relegated trio of Bournemouth, Watford and Norwich fill the last three money slots as well, with the Canaries losing £7.1m to finish with a £88.1m pay-out for their top flight campaign.
Parachute payments to the trio will also be reduced by £2.6m this season and £2.2m next term, with the teams relegated this season also each losing £2.6m in 2021-22.
League bosses have agreed with the clubs that no payments will be due until the end of this season, allowing the 20 “shareholders” extra time to deal with the financial repercussions of the pandemic.
But the League also confirmed that this season’s three promoted clubs – Leeds, West Brom and Fulham – as well as the clubs that come up from the Championship next season, have to EACH lose £8.4m from their first season TV revenues.

Kamara ‘gutted’ about Sky Sports Soccer Saturday sackings and says ‘they are best fellas you could ever wish to meet’

CHRIS KAMARA has revealed he was “gutted” when Sky Sports sacked three of Soccer Saturday’s regular panel.
Matt Le Tissier, Charlie Nicholas and Phil Thompson were removed from the show last month, as SunSport revealed.

That left just stadium reporter Kamara, 62, host Jeff Stelling, 65, and pundit Paul Merson, 52, as the popular show’s mainstays.
Reports suggest Arsenal legend Merson thought about quitting after his pals were sacked, with Stelling also considering his future.
Kamara admitted to his sadness at losing the trio, who had a year left on their Sky contracts.
He told the Mail: “Obviously I’m gutted, absolutely gutted.

“And I know they are. I’ve spoken to Thommo and Charlie and I’ve text Le Tiss… we were such a good team and it was all going well.
“Decisions were made, we don’t have any say in those. Whoever made [them] has done it and the boys accept it.
“I can honestly say they are the best fellas you could ever wish to meet.
“They are top-drawer and it’s been a great time to have worked with them over the past 15 years or so.”

    ‘BUILD THE BANTER’
A new regular line-up is thought to be some way from being finalised with live auditions reportedly earmarked for hopefuls.
Fans are eagerly awaiting who might be given a shot to breathe new life into the programme, with Kamara keen to “build the banter”.
Claims that the sackings were racially motivated have been criticised – with Ian Wright slamming “racists” who blamed black pundits for the move.
Kamara insists that viewers must not be put off by the speed of “catching up” taking place in television’s relationship with diversity.
The former Bradford manager said: “We’re owed a few more diverse faces around certain situations involving football.
“So why not? Let’s see how [they] go.
“Everyone’s got to have an opportunity – I was given an opportunity 22 years ago after getting the sack from Stoke City and 22 years later I’m still there.”
He added: “[The sackings] became a black issue… people were talking diversity and saying, ‘They’re being replaced for BAME reasons alone’.

“It took away people from thanking [the trio who have just left], for all they had done.
‘For years and years, [TV] hasn’t been diverse and now it’s slightly catching up.
“That’s what people are offended by – that it’s catching up in a quick sort of way rather than a slow way.”

Every Premier League match in September will be broadcast live on TV after a U-turn by the 20 clubs

ALL this month’s Premier League matches will be broadcast live on TV after a U-turn by the 20 clubs.
As SunSport revealed yesterday, a hastily-arranged virtual meeting of the 20 “shareholder” clubs saw them fold in the face of demands from fans and the Government.

    3

The League had agreed to increase the number of matches screened live on TV this season from 200 to 220.
But that left 160 matches without live showing, including 11 of the games due to be played behind closed doors this month.
Now, following the furore, the clubs have agreed to change their stance with all 11 matches now shared between the Prem’s four broadcasters, Sky Sports, BT Sport, Amazon Prime and the BBC.

Amazon and the Beeb will show one match each on September 26.
The switch means a series of changed kick-off times this weekend.
While Crystal Palace’s home clash with Southampton remains a 3pm kick-off and screened by BT, West Ham will now take on Newcastle at 8pm, live on Sky Sports.
Wolves’ trip to Sheffield United on Monday will now start at 6pm with Brighton’s match against Chelsea reverting to 8.15pm in a Sky double-header.

The battle of promoted duo Leeds and Fulham will be the sole 3pm Saturday game on September 19, on BT Sport.
But Arsenal’s London derby with West Ham has been brought forward from 2pm on Sunday September 20 to 8pm the previous evening.
That sees Leicester’s clash with Burnley moved back from 3pm on the Saturday to 7pm the next night, with Aston Villa versus Sheffield United now shunted back more than 24 hours to a 6pm kick off on Monday September 21.
As it stands, there will be four matches screened by at least three broadcasters at 3pm on Saturday September 26, although Spurs’ game with Newcastle will be moved back if Tottenham win their opening Europa League qualifier next Thursday.

    3

Five Premier League clubs make up Europe’s ten most-valuable squads

Prem chiefs see the move as a temporary measure because of the current Covid-19 ban on fans, due to be lifted next month.
They signalled even partial ground reopening will bring a change of policy in a statement which  said: “In consultation with all relevant stakeholders, the Premier League is considering appropriate arrangements for matches which will take place after 1 October.
“The Premier League is working on a step-by-step approach, while monitoring the developments regarding the League’s number one priority of getting fans back into full stadia as soon as possible, with safety always being our priority.”
Updated fixture schedule is as follows:

    Saturday 12 September

Sky Sports NOT planning to add Micah Richards or Alex Scott to Soccer Saturday panel this season after huge overhaul

MICAH RICHARDS and Alex Scott are not expected to be part of the new revolving Soccer Saturday panel on Sky this season.
Sky’s decision to axe long-time studio guests Charlie Nicholas, Matt Le Tissier and Phil Thompson brought suggestions that Richards and Scott would be parachuted in.

But the pair have been lined up for match punditry duties rather than sitting in front of TV screens on a Saturday afternoon.
Sky chiefs have decided not to have a permanent panel alongside host Jeff Stelling, with the likes of Matt Murray and Clinton Morrison likely to appear as well as retained veteran Paul Merson.
Fans were devastated when the trio of Nicholas, Le Tissier and Thompson, who had worked for the broadcaster for almost 50 years combined, were let go.

Scott Minto was then added to the cull after 13 years with the broadcaster.
But Arsenal legend Wright, 56, took to Twitter to blast viewers who said black pundits such as Richards and Scott were the reason behind the others losing their jobs last month.
The former England striker labelled the vile social media trolls “racists” with “stinking unbrushed-teeth mouths” in the video.
He said: “I’ve had to pull the car over – the racism is going through the roof today.

“Can someone answer me this: what does Micah Richards, Alex Scott, Sol Campbell, Clinton Morrison or any other black pundit have to do with Sky’s decision to get rid of these guys?
“All because three middle-aged white guys got the sack… I kiss my teeth.”

Wright added: “Why are people upset? Alex Scott, for me, is easily one of the best-prepared pundits out there. Easily.

“Keep their names out of your stinking unbrushed-teeth mouths.”

BBC may be handed live matches if Premier League clubs vote to screen every behind-closed-doors match

THE BBC could be awarded more live Premier League matches this season if clubs vote to screen all behind-closed-doors games.
That would mean a dramatic U-turn on their decision to block fans from watching up to 160 games on television.

    4

Top-flight clubs will debate whether to continue screening matches during the pandemicCredit: EPA
The Government has urged the Premier League to “follow the spirit of Project Restart” in making more games available to fans on TV.
And clubs have now agreed to reconsider their refusal to allow more than 220 games to be shown live at a shareholders’ meeting on Thursday.
The Telegraph claim that all twenty top-flight sides will hold talks this week to decide whether to continue screening their fixtures while fans remain banned from being in stadiums.
The Premier League initially began talks with its broadcast partners to potentially screen every match from the beginning of the season until the start of October at the least.

Those include Sky Sports, BT Sport and Amazon, but also the BBC, which became the first terrestrial broadcaster to air live Prem matches earlier this year.
The Beeb also set the record for the most-watched Premier League game ever after it broadcast Southampton’s shock 1-0 win over Manchester City.
However, the company’s radio coverage and Match of the Day show drew fewer numbers.
And the report claims the Beeb are wary of that with highlight show MOTD costing them £211.5million in rights for the 2019-22 seasons.

Yet sources at the rights holders, via the Telegraph, are expecting the BBC to be awarded at least one fixture if the Prem reverse their screening stance.
That would mean the BBC showing one of the 11 games not already selected for broadcast by lead broadcasters Sky Sports and BT Sport.
The two rivals have already swooped to show every one of Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City’s this month.
As with Project Restart, Sky, BT and Amazon would be expected to be given nearly all the other remaining matches.

A potential split would see Sky awarded six or seven, BT two or three and Amazon and the BBC one each.
Sources were not expecting the Premier League to present an alternative method of screening the eleven matches – such as via clubs’ own websites.
A pay-per-view model is also unlikely to be approved at this stage.
