Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury ‘will be first PPV available on both Sky Sports AND BT Sport with rivals sharing spoils’

ANTHONY JOSHUA’S heavyweight showdown with Tyson Fury will be available on pay-per-view with Sky Sports AND BT Sport, according to Bob Arum.It would be the first time a PPV boxing fight can be watched on either channel in the UK.
Fans will be able to watch Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury on Sky Sports or BT Sport in the UK this summerCredit: Mark Robinson
Joshua has his own deal with Sky whereas WBC king Fury’s contract is with rivals BTCredit: PA:Press Association
Fury’s American co-promoter Arum revealed the news – and added ESPN will get the rights in America, not DAZN who have aired Joshua’s last four fights.
The Top Rank chief told Boxing Scene: “You will be able to buy it on BT or buy it on Sky, it can’t be exclusive to either.
“Obviously, the big market is the UK, where everyone is talking it will do three million homes.”
However, SunSport understands Arum’s comments regarding BT Sport’s guaranteed involvement are premature.
No concrete decisions will be made on broadcast deals until the date and venue are confirmed.
It is unclear how much fans will have to pay to get access for the fight with details yet to be finalised.
Joshua has his own deal with Sky whereas WBC king Fury’s contract is with rivals BT.
This broadcasting deadlock threatened to scupper the unification heavyweight bout.

But Arum’s comments suggest British boxing fans will now get their choice of presenters and pundits for the mammoth Battle of Britain.
Eddie Hearn, promoter for the WBA, WBO and IBF champ AJ, revealed how the negotiations developed for both broadcasters to show the fight.
He said: “It is quite easy because the worst case scenario is everyone shares it and everyone will do that anyway. But we need to maximise the revenue for the fighters.
“In the UK, AJ has an exclusive deal with Sky, Fury has matching price deal with BT, in America Fury has an exclusive deal with ESPN and AJ has a matching deal with DAZN.
“I can’t talk on behalf of Sky but Sky will feel probably quite comfortable that they will get the majority of buys in that instance.
“If it means them getting the fight, I can’t see any obstacles. There is no one saying no, everyone is saying we need to get this done.”
Asked about his client’s contract ending with Sky Sports, Hearn added: “There are extensions on that, ongoing discussions as well, and there will be some interesting news on that soon about a new partnership with us but that has got a little bit longer.
“Obviously with the force majeure and the delay in fights it puts it back but he has one fight left with Sky.

“Hopefully his two fights with Fury which are due to take place this year, there’s no reason why they wouldn’t be on Sky regardless of what we are doing anyway.”
The first part of AJ and Fury’s two-fight deal is expected to take place indoors in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on July 24.
A rematch is then expected to be staged in the UK later in 2021.
Joshua’s Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn said: “We all know now that both sides have signed the contract, they have both accepted one specific proposal and we are finalising that with contracts going backwards and forwards and tiny, tiny points getting ironed out.
“We haven’t finalised an exact date, July 24 is the rough date but it may leak into early August but no later than that. The Olympics will be a different timezone so it’s not really in the mindset.
“It will be peak time UK, middle of the night in Tokyo, there will not be a TV clash.
“There is going to be a crowd, indoors obviously, so up to 20,000.”

Warnock in huge Sky Sports News on-air gaffe as adverts finish while saying he doesn’t agree with Ryan Mason appointment

SKY SPORTS pundit Stephen Warnock was caught slagging off Spurs’ appointment of Ryan Mason as caretaker manager after he did not realise they had returned from the advert break.Mason was announced as the interim boss of Tottenham on Monday following the sacking of Jose Mourinho.
Warnock later apologised for his comments about MasonCredit: Times Newspapers Ltd

Presenter Rob Wotton was not ready when the show returned from the ad break as Warnock could be heard sounding off about MasonCredit: Sky Sports
And ex-England international Warnock was picked up not agreeing with the decision as the Sky Sports team were all caught unaware that they were back on air.
As they came back prematurely from a break, Warnock can be heard saying: “Mason? No, I don’t agree with that, Ryan Mason.”
After being made aware he had been heard by viewers, the ex-Aston Villa man was forced to apologise for his comments.
Reacting to his gaff, one social media user said: “Stephen Warnock forgot mic was left on and thought it was an advert break and slagged Ryan Mason off on Sky Sports News. Football’s exploded.”
And another added: “Ryan Mason being written off my Stephen Warnock 5 minutes after getting the role. Well done @SkySportsNews.”
While a third said: “Absolutely brilliant that.”
Mason was forced to retire as a football player in 2018 at the age of just 26 due to risks associated with a head injury he had suffered the previous season.
He joined the coaching set-up at Tottenham in April 2018 before becoming the official academy coach of the Under-19 team in July 2019.

Mason takes over a Spurs team languishing in seventh place in the Premier League table, five points off the top four with six games remaining.
But the more pressing matter for the club is the Carabao Cup final which they will play against Manchester City at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

Sky Sports’ Michelle Owen ‘checks out’ of Twitter after she is trolled for ‘doing a Chris Kamara’ and missing red card

SKY SPORTS’ presenter Michelle Owen opted to ‘check out’ from Twitter after trolls targetted her during an appearance on Sky Sports News.Owen, a hugely popular figure among viewers of the hit show, was presenting on Walsall’s 1-0 victory over Tranmere Rovers.

Jeff Stelling joked she should count the number of players on the pitchCredit: Sky Sports
Here’s full clip, context is everything. There’s a pillar in the way and the action I described just before the sending off proceeded what I couldn’t see.Justifying it for the trolls. As you can see I am peering round a pillar. Thanks most for seeing the funny side! pic.twitter.com/bvNLptmSbX— Michelle Owen (@MichelleOwen7) April 14, 2021

In the 74th minute, Tranmere’s Jay Spearing was given his marching orders following a second bookable offence minutes after his side fell behind.
Jeff Stelling introduced Owen to viewers at home but she was left perplexed after seemingly missing Spearing receive the red card.
Stelling said ‘it looks like it’s gone from bad to worse for them, Michelle.’
Owen then responded: “Not unless I’ve just done a Kammy and completely missed something.
“Are you going to tell me someone has been sent off and I’ve missed it like Kammy that time?”
Stelling then jokes: “I am, get your hands and fingers out and just count the number of Tranmere players because in my information Spearing has been sent off.”
Chris Kamara famously produced a moment of TV gold when he mistook a red card for a substitution in a 2010 game between Portsmouth and Blackburn causing a hilarious reaction in the studio.
Owen’s innocuous mistake also had Stelling and Co in stitches after realising Spearing had been sent off.

But although the majority of viewers found the funny side, a pathetic minority of people decided to send her ‘mean’ messages.
Owen was forced to defend missing the sending off and said on Twitter: “There’s a pillar in the way and the action I described just before the sending off proceeded what I couldn’t see.Justifying it for the trolls.
“As you can see I am peering round a pillar. Thanks most for seeing the funny side!”
She then revealed she was signing off from Twitter by writing: “I’m checking out for a bit as I’m taking my little boy to see some animals then continuing our charity run.

“More productive than the small minority that sit on social media being mean. Have a lovely day and thanks for the nice messages.”
A host of journalists and presenters have jumped to her defence including Faye Carruthers who responded: “Mate, obstructed view, writing notes, going on air, juggling – ignore the trolls, they’re in the minority, you were unflappable when Jeff told you what had happened! You’re bloody brilliant x”
Sky Sports commentator Gary Taphouse added: “We really giggled at how you handled it, absolutely top class.”

Chris Kamara has swollen tongue and slurred speech due to underactive thyroid after undergoing scan for ‘brain fog’

SKY SPORTS legend and former footballer Chris Kamara has revealed his relief after a brain scan showed NO signs of dementia. The 63-year-old decided to book in to see a radiologist after being left shocked at how ‘slow’ he was on a recent appearance on BBC’s The One Show.

Kammy shared photos of him in the radiology departmentCredit: Channel 4
The former Portsmouth, Stoke and Leeds star has previously described having ‘brain fog’ and being worried it might be related to heading the ball during his long footballing career.
Last month, he went for a scan as a precaution.
On Tuesday’s edition of Steph’s Packed Lunch on Channel 4, Kammy revealed the scan showed no signs of dementia, saying: “They didn’t find anything.
“Watching that back [a clip from an earlier episode of Packed Lunch], it’s slow and I know that’s not me of old.
“I went to Pontefract to the radiology department. The results were no loss of brain mass and very few lesions, which means no clinical relevance. So yes!”
Kamara told host Steph McGovern he had further tests to investigate why he has been experiencing ‘brain fog’.
He added: “There are loads of things I can track and I’m thinking ‘what’s going on?’.
“After the blood test I had, I’ve got an underactive thyroid. I’m suffering with a swollen tongue which causes you to slur your words, slows down.

“Not your thoughts because the thoughts are there, but transferring those thoughts to the mouth to get you to talk coherently. All that sort of stuff.
“Feeling cold, even warm days you’re shivering and cold, weakness, muscle fatigue, tiredness.”
Steph asked Kammy to recall an experience he had during an appearance on The One Show which caused him to worry.
Kamara revealed his shock at how ‘slow’ he was on live TV prompted him to get checked outCredit: Channel 4
Kammy replied: “I was on with Alex Jones and Michael Ball, I did the menu for the show live and not a problem
“Michael Ball talked to me about the Christmas album and said ‘name some of the songs’ and my mind had gone completely blank and I couldn’t think of anything.
“That was the first time my wife said to me, ‘there’s something not quite right, you need to get it checked out’.”
“The blood test which showed the underactive thyroid has explained everything along the way.”
Kamara’s concerns came after Gary Lineker called for football to ban heading in training because players are three and a half times more likely to suffer from a brain disorder.
WHAT IS AN UNDERACTIVE THYROID?An underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism) is where your thyroid gland does not produce enough hormones.
Common signs of an underactive thyroid are tiredness, weight gain and feeling depressed.
An underactive thyroid can often be successfully treated by taking daily hormone tablets to replace the hormones your thyroid is not making.
There’s no way of preventing an underactive thyroid. Most cases are caused either by the immune system attacking the thyroid gland and damaging it, or by damage to the thyroid that occurs during some treatments for an overactive thyroid or thyroid cancer.

John Terry calls for Sky Sports to reclaim Champions League coverage from BT Sport as he watches Chelsea beat Porto

JOHN TERRY has called on Sky Sports to reclaim Champions League broadcasting rights from BT Sport.Sky shared rights with ITV until 2015, when BT shelled out around £1BILLION to snatch the world’s biggest club competition away.
JT called for Sky Sports to reclaim the Champions League rightsCredit: Instagram johnterry.26
But JT, 40, didn’t appear to enjoy their coverage of his former side’s clash with Porto on Wednesday night – which happened to feature former verbal sparring partner Robbie Savage on commentary.
Terry posted an image of the game on his telly to Instagram, captioned: “@SkySports please get hold of the Champions League”.
Savage, 46, was on commentary duty alongside Darren Fletcher, and has clashed with Terry in the past.
When JT endured a rough patch during the 2015-16 season, Savage ‘dug him out’, claiming that the Chelsea skipper had entered the ‘beginning of the end’ at Stamford Bridge.
Terry took exception to this at the time, hitting back: “I’ve come under criticism, individually, from certain players and individuals, players I’ve looked up to and played alongside.
“I’ve taken that on the chin: Rio, Carra, Neville, the very best I’ve come up against in the game.
“I take that on the chin. When others speak, maybe I don’t take it on the chin.
“When players have not had a career, played at a really bad level in their career… Robbie Savage being one.

“He’s dug me out a couple of times. You take it as a footballer, as an individual. I’ll take it from the Rios, Carraghers and Neville. All day long. From others? Nah”
Savage hit back: “John’s entitled to his opinion.
“It’s a shame he thinks 99 per cent of the industry – those of us who have not won the title or Champions League titles – is unqualified to express theirs.”
Terry is set to be disappointed, however, with BT Sport to remain the home of European football for at least another three seasons.
In 2019, they agreed a three-year extension from 2021 to 2024, paying around £400million a season for the rights.
