      How Chelsea could line up under Jose Mourinho next season with club ‘making contact’ with former boss

      THIRD time may be a charm for Jose Mourinho after he was linked with the Chelsea job. Having been at the club twice before, Mourinho has reportedly been contacted to take over the reins for a third time once Frank Lampard’s caretaker spell comes to an end in the summer.

      Since his last stint at the club, three-time Premier League winner Mourinho has managed Manchester United, Tottenham and is now at Roma – though reports suggest this could change in the summer.
      The Portuguese boss still holds a fiery temperament, but may have evolved in his liking for players.
      And should he be picked up by Chelsea again, it begs the question of how the Blues might line up.
      One plausible theory is him using his Roma connections to overhaul Chelsea’s misfiring attack.

      Despite the presence of Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella, Mourinho may also opt to bring in a fresh face in Leonardo Spinazzola, owing to the Englishman’s injury issues and Cucurella’s poor form.
      A transfer for a new goalie may also be sanctioned in order to upgrade on Kepa Arrizabalaga.

      This could see Leeds stopper Illan Meslier brought in, with Brentford’s David Raya an alternative.

      Mykhailo Mudryk has already been compared to club legend Eden Hazard, so it well within the realm of possibility for Mourinho to use his talents in a similar way.
      A Thiago Silva led back-line would also give Mourinho the experience he likes in defence, while the likes of Benoit Badiashile and Enzo Fernandez patrol the areas around him.
      Mason Mount could be given a new lease of life in a more structured system, with Mourinho also convincing Mateo Kovacic to stay.
      Christopher Nkunku’s arrival is an open secret, and his creative ability may be make him instrumental as he drifts inside while Reece James bombs on with Abraham the team’s focal point in attack.

      However, if Mourinho wanted to go for a very classical team, it could see him recruit Man Utd and Roma favourite Chris Smalling with Nemanja Matic joining him for the FOURTH time.

      FORMULA ONE star Lewis Hamilton has become the latest star to show his support to Romelu Lukaku after he was on the receiving end of racist abuse. The Inter Milan striker was the subject of vile chants from Juventus fans in the Coppa Italia semi-final first leg that finished 1-1 on Tuesday.

      Lukaku scored his team’s equaliser and celebrated by putting his fingers on his lips in front of the home supporters.
      He consequently got a second yellow card for the “excessive celebration” and was sent off.
      The Belgian has since released a statement explaining what happened and demanding an apology from Juve and action from the authorities.
      Meanwhile, Hamilton took to his Instagram story and posted a picture of Lukaku shushing the racist fans.

      The seven-time world champion has been the victim of disgusting slurs in the past.
      Former F1 driver Nelson Piquet was slapped with a £780,000 fine for his racist and homophobic remarks.
      Hamilton is not the first huge sports star to show their support for Lukaku after Kylian Mbappe expressed his solidarity with him.
      The Paris Saint-Germain ace wrote: “2023 and still the same problems. But we’re not going to let it keep happening.”

      The Moroccan was seen kneeling on the sideline drinking water and eating a banana in the second minute of stoppage time after Ranieri went down and called for attention.
      The Fiorentina defender was seen holding his legs after no apparent contact and called the physios on.
      Devout Muslim Amrabat, 26, is taking part in Ramadan which lasts a month and involves no eating or drinking during daylight hours.
      Amrabat came on as a substitute in the second half but helped the Viola close out a famous win over defending champions Inter.

      Whilst Amrabat was grateful for the pause in proceedings to break his fast the Premier League is one of the only leagues to stop the game to allow players observing Ramadan to do so.
      During Monday’s game between Everton and Tottenham referee David Coote stopped the game in the 26th minute to allow Everton’s Amadou Onana, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Idrisa Gueye to take on water.
      The win meant that Fiorentina are now 9th and ten points behind Inter in fourth.
      Amarabat has made 38 appearances in all competitions this season for Fiorentina but has yet to score.

      He is one of just six players to have won the league with three different Italian clubs.
      The Italian attacker is best remembered for his time with Cagliari, in which he lifted the club’s only league title in 1969/70.
      He scored 33 league goals from 166 appearances during his six-year spell there.

      Gori also won back-to-back titles at Inter in 1965 and 1966 while also winning the European Cup and Intercontinental Cup in 1965.
      He would add a fourth Scudetto to his CV with Juventus in 1977.
      Gori was also a member of the Italy squad which came second at the 1970 World Cup.
      However, his one appearance at Mexico 70′ would only be added to on two more occasions later that year.

      From Luton to Lecce, young midfielder Ed McJannet has joined the Irish invasion hoping to take Italy by storm

      HEARING a coach yell ‘die, die, die!’ as you train would be a tad concerning for any footballer.But for Ed McJannet, it was just one of the many adjustments he has had to make since swapping Luton in the Championship for Italian side Lecce on deadline day.

      The midfielder has followed a host of other young Irish players to Italy
      This switch was specifically a linguistic one, with the Italian word ‘Dai’, as it is spelt, loosely translating to ‘Come on’ or ‘let’s go’.
      McJannet, 19, told SunSport: “I had to ask what that one meant!
      “It’s all part of the adventure. I like to embrace challenges.
      “When you’re out of your comfort zone, you’re learning and growing which is important.”

      For decades the only memorable example of an Irishman in the land of the Boot was Robbie Keane’s short-lived spell at Inter Milan.
      But McJannet has become the latest Irish kid to move to the land of pizza and pasta in the last year in what has been a surprising new trend.
      Festy Ebosele and James Abankwah are in the first-team set-up at Udinese, John Ryan is as Sassuolo and Liam Kerrigan is with Serie B outfit Como. Kevin Zefi (Inter) and Cathal Heffernan (AC) are in the academies of both Milan clubs.
      McJannet spoke to close friends Abankwah and Ryan before giving Lecce the green light.

      He said: “They said it was really good and that they enjoy it. They said it was tough with the language, the style of football – that it’s very tactical – but were really positive about it.
      “It’s great to see people I know from Ireland doing so well in Italy and in their football journey. It was definitely encouraging.”
      McJannet had been with Luton since he was nine, becoming their youngest-ever pro when signing a senior contract on his 17th birthday.
      Yet he did not want to turn down what he felt was an exciting opportunity and hot-footed it via plane to Lecce with agent Dan Fletcher as they rushed to beat the transfer deadline.
      Terms were agreed and a three-year deal signed as he joined Lecce’s Under-19 ranks, working under English-speaking coach Federico Coppitelli.
      More than two months on and McJannet is still getting used to the cultural differences down in the south of Italy, where temperatures can soar to 40 degrees in the summer.
      He explained: “At the moment we train in the afternoon about 2 o’clock. At Luton, we used to train in the morning. I think the hotter it gets, the earlier we’ll train so that might change.
      “It’s about 18 degrees right now. It’s nice. I’m looking forward to, of course, but also dreading a bit when it gets really hot as I’m used to the English weather.
      “That’s going to be a massive adaptation. It was really hot the other day and we were doing a tough session and I thought, ‘wow, this is tough’. The heat had a massive impact.
      “But the more you do it, the more you get used to it. It’s something I’ll get used to – I hope!”
      It is not just the time of training that is a change for McJannet, but also the focus during sessions and the sheer volume of them.
      The midfielder added: “It’s a bit more tactical out here, they focus a lot on tactics and shape which is good because you’re learning so much about the game as well as playing it.

      “It’s tough the training we do. We train almost every day. The only day we get off is the day after a game. So it’s intense but I absolutely love it.”
      McJannet is also adapting to the sheer amount and variety of pasta on offer, having been accustomed to his mum’s cooking.
      But homesickness has not been a problem – given how easy it is to get a taste of the familiar thanks to Whatsapp, Facetime, Netflix and other online comforts.
      Instead, he is purely focused on throwing himself into his new culture and hopes soon to be speaking the lingo, doing two one-and-a-half-hour lessons a week plus practice on language app DuoLingo.
      The youngster added: “It’s been a really enjoyable few months.

      “I’m still settling in, still have lots to adapt to like the language. I’ve picked up stuff from lessons. I’m really enjoying the language, I’d love to be fluent in another language. It would be a great skill and just quite cool.
      “I’ve joined in January so I’ve got half the season. I just want to give it everything and hopefully chances will come. It would be a dream to play in the first team.” More

      “We knew it would be difficult. Although they were coming off a difficult period, they are still Inter and proved it tonight.”
      But the controversial ending underlined the pressure being felt at Inter, especially by boss Simone Inzaghi.

      However, The Athletic claim the club’s opening proposal has been rejected by the stopper.
      It’s said the Red Devils are expecting to wrap up a deal, but reports in Spain claim Roma are waiting to pounce.
